Me and the team really appreciate your support. Rolling Hills and Mountains. Green Gges and valleys stretch out towards the sea. Some areas are covered in dense woodland, while other parts are just bare plains of stone. The centre of the island is rocky and mountainous. It gradually gives way to gentlest slopes, green fields, and finally sparkling white beaches. These pristine stretches of sand curve around the island like a protective ring, creating
Starting point is 00:01:32 a striking divide between land and sea. The ocean is a deep hypnotic shade of blue, fading into turquoise as it reaches the coast. The beauty of this island is legendary. Its name is Naxos, and in more than 200,000 years of habitation, it has barely changed at all. Heard of goats and sheep graze in the fields. Farmers gather crops and harvest olives from the groves surrounding their small, white-washed houses. The life here is pleasant but simple. Life was simple even for the princess of the island, Ariadne. Despite her wealth and status, Despite her wealth and status, she lived a relatively ordinary life. She was not interested in fine clothes or extravagant banquets.
Starting point is 00:02:57 She wore her crown reluctantly, only because her family insisted on it. In fact, as Ariadne roamed the fields and coastal paths of her native island, she might easily have been mistaken for a Sheppadess. The only thing which indicated her royal status was her golden crown, glinting in the sunlight. When Ariadne was at home, in the white palace where she had grown up, she was usually busy with her duties. But she felt happiest when she was outside, exploring the island on long, rambling walks. Sometimes she would walk through the fields and forests, breathing in the fresh scent of the Cyprus trees. On other days she would set off early and hike up to the mountain, following
Starting point is 00:04:09 the winding rocky trails to find the best views of the island. But her favourite walks were her long, meandering strolls along the coast, discovering secret coves perfect for swimming. On some occasions she spent so long at the coast, sunning herself on the beach and floating in the blue water that it was too late to return home. With no light but the moon, it would be difficult to find her way back to the palace. Those nights, she would stay on the beach, nestled in the sand until sunrise. On this particular day, Ariadne had chosen to sleep on the beach once again.
Starting point is 00:05:19 After a long, lazy afternoon diving into the water and exploring the rock pools. She had watched the sun set over the ocean, knowing that it would take at least a few hours to walk home again. She settled down in the soft sand near the rocks and vegetation at the top of the beach.
