Me and the team really appreciate your support. The desert roads stretches out before you all the way to the horizon, like a black ribbon laid across the sand. On either side of the car, the vast and open landscape extends as far as the eye can see. Green and brown succulents, cacti and other hardy plants,
Starting point is 00:01:21 dot the arid terrain. Patches of beige dirt fill the space between them. Here and there, a lone lizard or jackrabbit ventures out into the sun, though most animals are tucked away during the heat of the day. You are nice and cool in your car as you make your way across this expanse of desert to the oasis that awaits you at the end of the road. The miles behind you have been marked by subtle changes in the landscape. The cacti getting a little larger in some places. In others, the mesquite trees becoming more prominent. It's a strikingly beautiful environment you think to yourself. It's harsh and delicate in town.
Starting point is 00:02:31 You continue down the road for several more miles until it begins to narrow and more sand encroaches on the sides of the pavement. It's as though the desert itself knows your journey is coming to a close and is guiding you to your final destination. A few minutes later, it comes into view. The dense clusters of tall palm trees are pleasing to the eye after so many miles of flat ground and sparse plant life. It truly is an oasis in the desert, a burst of greenery and, fed by the waters of a natural spring. Water is precious in this place, and the trees are a signal to all around that its nurturing presence can be found here. You drive up to the Beige and Brown stone wall in circling the resort where you'll
Starting point is 00:03:50 be spending the next several days. An elegant, cursive sign points you in the right direction. You drive around a group of palm trees whose trunks curve up and around each other and pass the display of succulents arranged in giant pots. Finally, you come to the building, marked reception. You park the car in a shaded space and leave the comfort of the air conditioning for the dry heat of the desert air. You welcome the change in temperature as you get out of the car. When the warm air envelops you, it reminds you of how it feels to stand in front of an oven when you open it to pull out a batch of freshly baked cookies.
Starting point is 00:05:00 The heat prickles your skin ever so slightly as your body adjusts to the new temperature. A dry breeze blows over you, rustling the light fabric of your shirt. It helps cool you off and carries with it the scent of wild sage and warm sand. You take a deep breath, welcoming the aromatic air into your lungs. Then you sigh it out, savoring the herbal scent that fills your nose on the exhale.
