Starting point is 00:00:00 We are here live. Episode 10. Yes, episode 10 of the Ghost Runners podcast with Jacob Garland Triplett. My name is Bradley David Ellis. We are here in full force with full names today. And Jake, I've listened to a few podcasts like we talked about, and I decided that we need a theme song for our podcast. Well, I kind of push that at the end of every episode a little bit.
Starting point is 00:00:26 A little jingle. A little closing jingle. This is... I'm trying to nominate this as our theme song. Oh, you made something? No, I did not make something. I'll give you the context after we kind of play the song real fast. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:41 And then we can go from there. I'm so excited what this is when did this no i'm not gonna give you the context that's nice Nice. Oh, yeah, it counts down. Oh. Seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. We have one song. And we're back. And we're going to the moon.
Starting point is 00:01:43 What a song. Did you hear that listening with Hattie? So, no. So what happened, yes, so it's a preschool. It's on the 150 Preschool Songs playlist that I often listen to with Hattie. One time on Spotify, I accidentally added all 150 songs to the queue. Oh, nice. And didn't realize.
Starting point is 00:02:02 I don't think you can, like, delete a full queue on Spotify. You cannot. You have to just skip every single song I learned later on. songs to the queue oh nice and i don't think you can like delete a full queue on spotify you cannot you have to just skip every single song that sucks i learned yeah later on uh but i was listening to our podcast on spotify and um the podcast got over and i didn't realize it was over yet and i thought you had randomly added this song in at the end wait has he been doing this every episode i was like this is awesome i love this like this is such a goofy song um. I was like, this is awesome. I love this. Like, this is such a goofy song. So I was like, man, this song kind of slaps. Like, maybe we should.
Starting point is 00:02:30 It's a slapperino. It's a slapperoosk. And so I was like, maybe we should try this out for our podcast theme song. It's called Zoom Zoom, We're Going to the Moon by the Kaboomers. 150 preschool songs. Zoom Zoom by the Kaboom. Yeah preschool songs zoom zoom by the kaboom if yeah if you're interested in checking it out yourself so i don't really know if that's going to be our uh podcast maybe we wait and hear some feedback yeah this goes out like you'll think
Starting point is 00:02:55 about zoom zoom like do you think it slaps enough uh i might at least like a shortened version of it you get me the mp3 file i'll work some magic. It's fun times, though. Even if we could get the instrumental to that and add in our own thing. Zoom, zoom. We're going to the pod. I don't know. Oh, wait. One thing I keep reading in a mission. I've told you about it, but I love it.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Guys, probably three weeks ago, we go to record a podcast. Or we were talking about it, and Brad texts me, do you have any time for a potty break with a D? Two Ds. Potty break. And I was like's potty break and i was like dang that was good that was a good like honestly that probably should have been the name of our podcast is like taking a potty break um that's potty so i just want to affirm you publicly thanks that was a good use of words i guess i well it just came to me one day and i said i
Starting point is 00:03:40 gotta tell it to jake so episode 10 of taking a potty break yeah but yeah the song is that's do you remember after like what was it episode 1 that guy reached out to me and was like hey love the episode
Starting point is 00:03:52 would love to make you a theme song come on man I was like for sure we're waiting I have not heard back but he was pretty into it at the time maybe
Starting point is 00:03:58 maybe what we should do is have hopefully hopefully this guy makes it but in the meantime maybe he's listening to this. In the meantime, we make our own. And then we have a competition,
Starting point is 00:04:11 a voter's competition between, obviously Zoom Zoom, we're going to the moon. Zoom Zoom going to the moon by the kaboom boom. And then we have our own. And then we have this guy. That'll make him step up his game because we can really bring the beast. Exactly, when it's a free market.
Starting point is 00:04:25 You got to bring your best. Right. Bring your best. I used to watch a TV show. It was about woodworking, but it was hosted by Common, the rapper. Oh, that's what he's up to nowadays. Apparently. So woodworking.
Starting point is 00:04:35 It was very mediocre show, but it was like this, like intense, like you have 24 hours to do this one specific kind of style of thing. This is so wild. Common is the host of a word working. Oh, and he always tried to be so intense, but his catchphrase at like, after he would always introduce the challenge was, he would always go, bring your best. And then everyone would like scatter and start woodworking.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Bring your best. What a weird catchphrase. So bring your best. If you're trying to, trying to get on our theme song. That's so funny to me. I'm sorry. I can't really get over that. Just like an iconic staple of like hip-hop right huge 90s rapper is now like hosting woodworking yeah johnny cash is uh hosting a cooking show on the food network yeah that's just like the typical path you go down
Starting point is 00:05:19 jeez i'm trying to imagine a rapper as like a woodworker. Like, I'm sure he loves those noises in there. He's like sampling stuff. Oh, yeah, yeah. Can you sand the edge of that again? That was nice. That was like a hi-hat. I like that. He's funny.
Starting point is 00:05:33 I don't think he's a very good actor. Have you ever seen his commercials where he's talking about artificial intelligence? Yeah, he's in something. He's like, AI is everywhere. I'm like, that's such a... They recorded this and thought it was good enough to put it on there. It was like a very large company, like GE or something like that. Microsoft, I don't know what it was.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Some big company that thought it was, oh, we're getting common to say this great line. Yeah, like, great line read. Don't need to take it again. That was perfect. Perfect comment. That's great. Yeah, I always bring my best. I feel like that's the same.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Ice Cube only has like one tone of voice. Yeah. And it's just like overexcited about everything. Like that's his thing. I'm tired of it. It must just be like they're so iconic in their trade. Because I didn't really know about Common and I learned like he is like a big deal in like, yeah, the origins of hip hop. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And so I wonder if they're just so iconic in their trade that. This is who I am. I'm never going to stray from it. Or, yeah, like it doesn't matter if you're that good or not. It would be like LeBron James. Like you're not a very good actor, but we're going to put you in everything because you're LeBron James. Yeah. I'm not – I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Because Ice Cube is the same way. Like Ice Cube – I watched that 30 for 30 on him straight out of LA. Oh, nice. Did you ever see the movie NWA? Or Straight Outta Compton? Oh, is that what it's called? The one that came out – The movie that was about nwa yeah why did i did not see it but it's randomly my sister-in-law catherine's sister's like favorite movie of all time oh really and she is very not nwa she is that's her instagram bio yeah i cannot stress enough how little i am in wa but i do love the
Starting point is 00:07:06 movie oh she graduated from baylor uh pi fi with a no pr pr degree yeah baylor kappa sorry uh she's great uh but as far as i know she is is not doesn't associate with the culture um yeah much of an ice cube girl but anyway that's that's how we're starting this that's great before we get too far into it i want to give some shout outs to the people who have left reviews on our podcast on itunes i've been thinking about it i think it's my favorite like type of feedback to get anywhere online really oh you like leaned forward towards the microphone i thought you were like i don't know what i thought you're about to do you like got close i thought you're like sniffing no it looked like there was some phlegm or something
Starting point is 00:07:46 on here on your snotage yeah so i might have spit on it oh that's okay um yeah i just think it's i mean any kind of feedback is great positive negative facebook comment yeah instagram like but having someone take the time to write out a paragraph about us talking in your basement is like really cool yeah it's like someone giving me feedback i mean it's like this is crazy that people listen we're like basically recording a voicemail like an hour-long voicemail and people are like yeah loved it that's crazy that's cool that it means that much to you because it really does it's fun for me but i don't get very many feedbacks on social media like you do like you get yeah you get feedback a
Starting point is 00:08:24 lot so that's cool to know that's not just me thinking like oh that's fun like i really enjoy that super cool i love it shout out graham dodd that i still have not responded to and he he responded the other day said i just listened to it that you said you're gonna respond to me you still have it so maybe i'll just continue to not respond to him and then just shout him out this is how you respond to him yeah just on the podcast graham thanks is how you respond to him. Yeah. Just on the podcast. Graham. Thanks, man. That's funny. I think I also like the podcast reviews is because it's not something I get a notification for and I have to check it manually.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Oh yeah. And then it's like so exciting. It's a Christmas morning every time. It's like what I get. Give us a rundown of some reviews. We're up to 56 ratings on there, which is great. Oh, also we're up to just share some quick numbers. I think this is kind of a cool milestone.
Starting point is 00:09:04 We're up to over 4 to share some quick numbers, I think this is kind of a cool milestone, we're up to over 4,000 plays total. On iTunes? No, total. Okay, you can tell on Spotify as well. Yeah. Very cool. Which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:09:14 4,000 people. Yeah, that is crazy. My mom's really been pushing it hard. Through her Facebook groups. Well, she got a bumper sticker that says, my son is one half half of the ghost. No, I'm just kidding. She does it. But, uh, she has, she's like a super fan now all of a sudden, like I didn't even tell her I was starting it and then she heard it and she's like, she caught up quick and she tells me all the inside jokes from it and everything. So, oh, that's funny. Um, yeah. Quick shout out to the people who've
Starting point is 00:09:40 been, uh, listening and giving, uh, reviews reviews i think it's fun too because in the itunes reviews like you i i don't know who these people are because you have to make like a oh right unless it's obvious claire bear i don't know who claire bear is we know some clairs but we do know some clairs who do you think if you had to peg claire bear what kind of girl i think she is oh she has a uh she has a collection of stuffed animals still on her bed. Yeah, but she listens to Billie Eilish, but she doesn't want people to know. Yeah, sure. I honestly know very little about Billie Eilish.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Well, Claire listens to her. Yeah, she has a poster of somebody on her wall. I don't know who it is. Sean Mendez maybe. Oh, I love little Mindy. She's one of those girls that has the attachment, like maybe a Bluetooth headset, like real looking phone for her cell phone that she answers the call with. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:10:29 That's cool. Yeah. Thank you, Claire Bear, for your review and your cool style. Yeah. Her title for the review was Relatable as Heck. Hey. With the asterisks over the E, too. You know I love that joke.
Starting point is 00:10:42 You started it. I don't know if I... Well, probably not the first person. In our world. In our world, you started it. oh i don't know if i well probably not the first in our world in our world you started it you like birthed it i raised it i love it and now other people are attaching themselves to it which is great yeah yeah yeah i nursed it and then you you gave it sustenance once it was ready for so much sussed uh jace face on a new race is another username okay seems like a nice girl um girl for sure oh i don't know i don't have another review okay uh i'm actually excited to sit in atlanta traffic when your
Starting point is 00:11:11 podcast comes out every week i feel like i'm y'all's uber driver except i'm not getting paid that's a great review that's a cool yeah yeah that's a cool analogy thanks jace in my face um mzim is another one she said it took me a minute to find the cave and listen but i've binged every episode and i love it relatable funny quick light-hearted great comedic relief another person's username is just kesha sucks with three x's uh okay this is the last one i'll say she she or he kesha sucks 247 said funny podcast but really just here to speak on behalf of all gals. Oh,
Starting point is 00:11:45 I guess it is a girl. It'd say that parallel parking is definitely the more attractive skill. Throw it back to like a few episodes ago. What was the other one that we talked about parallel parking or I have no idea. Something else. That's funny, but I was big on that. I was like,
Starting point is 00:11:56 I wish girls could see me parallel park and Kesha sucks. Two, four, seven confirms that. Oh yeah. She digs it. Let's go. Wow.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Okay. Maybe, maybe that's what you do to get girls from now on is just go to like a i mean because usually it's a pretty highly populated just go to like westport downtown yeah just start parking and just get out get out of the car really quickly shut your door and just walk in with like like a suit and tie and like a briefcase or something it's like that dude is a big deal and he's responsible enough to parallel park. Oh man. Can he park that 2006 Toyota Camry with the paint chipping off?
Starting point is 00:12:31 The light blue, the sky blue. Yeah. It's nice. It is nice. Do you have a name for your truck yet? No. Do you want to give me one?
Starting point is 00:12:39 Sure. Um, I don't, I'll, I'll try it. It's a Ford. It's a Ford Ford F one 50. It's black. It's black. Um, I don't. I'll try it. It's a Ford. It's a Ford. Ford F-150. It's black.
Starting point is 00:12:46 It's black. I don't know. Ford. You know what? Maybe it's not best to just like give me one right off the top. Think about it. It needs to come to me. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:56 By the end of the episode, I'll think of something. Yeah. I don't know how I'm going to think through a name of a car. It doesn't have to be the end of the episode. Just think sometime and give it to me. We can. Okay. It can be an ongoing conversation
Starting point is 00:13:05 because all my other cars names have always come naturally yeah i think mine came naturally not that i really talk about my car's name but they had a name that's kind of a high school thing maybe yeah like oh you guys want to hop in you know betty sue or whatever you know it's like i don't really talk to but if it had like a birth certificate it would say camry newton yeah because it's light blue cam you guys get it it's not bad um one other thing that i just thought of speaking of reviews we joked i mean this is probably five six episodes ago we said that one of the sponsors was your company you know use discount code whatever ghost runners and then you
Starting point is 00:13:45 actually got hit up you're about to make a sale i hope so one of my really good friends i i know that's the other thing is i haven't even responded to them yet by the time this is recorded i am i okay i was gone for seven weeks or seven weeks seven days out of the country uh and just got back yesterday so that's my excuse that is fair but but yes i will that is one now that i'm not maybe going to respond to you but i am going to respond to somebody who is interested in my business and ordering something from me that's smart ellis custom creations is the business by the way find it on the line at www.facebook.com backslash alice custom creations or instagram you know we're everywhere uh dude how was trinidad we really i mean i haven't seen you in no at least 10 days yeah maybe pushing go fortnight yeah it was it was really great um we went there on a mission
Starting point is 00:14:35 trip with my church and you've been before i've been um so you know this but i'm going to tell everyone else sure the essential kind of oils. Yeah, we did. We, we just douse some frankincense, uh, some thieves oil and a little bit of peppermint to get rid of those headaches.
Starting point is 00:14:52 And they were great. And the cool thing is if each one of them gets three people to also douse and frankincense, then we're working with something. And if those three people, I mean, then I'm a multimillion conglomerate. Then at that point you've made literally dozens of dollars off of them, which is super cool. And it only costs you $35 a month.
Starting point is 00:15:08 And you know what? Yeah, whatever. I'm not going to keep doing this because my wife is great and loves essential oils. And she does not really sell them. Well, she can, but she doesn't because she's uncomfortable with stuff like that. But I'm not going to make fun of her too much because she really, really likes them. Oh, man. Anyway. Got to be touched on touch on that okay what is essential besides the oils the the bird's eye view of what we did was basically we went there and uh toured all throughout trinidad and did like
Starting point is 00:15:36 hour and a half long visits to different schools orphanages, elderly homes. I think those are the three things. And just kind of just quickly proclaimed the gospel to them. And then every afternoon we would also put on a VBS, Vacation Bible School. Did you teach them about the germs or the glitter like I talked about? I should have. You didn't bring glitter? I didn't, no.
Starting point is 00:16:01 It was not a BYOG kind of thing? It wasn't a BYOG. No, but every afternoon we did a vvs with the same neighborhood uh so we did that vvs for four days well five days technically but um if they get sick because they don't know about germs that's on your hands man you're right literally it's on their hands but it's also on your hands but it was great this is my second time going and i think i had a better better grasp of what to expect but at the same time we didn't go to any elderly homes last time so that was a new thing did you go to elderly home been to the old folks they were they were pretty uncomfortable and pretty hard to go to but i think it was one of those things that's like man these people need us or not need us but they need jesus
Starting point is 00:16:36 and they need you know people people to come in and show them that they're loved and they're valued and um it's hard to leave those places with a real high spirit just because they're all very sad right well even if they're not sad they like they give off an aura of sad a little bit i feel like i had an opposite experience i had some people yes that were uncomfortable and not really very responsive but you know i lead worship and so i brought my guitar every time so we sang hymns with them did you be honest did you ever sing zoom zoom to the moon moon i did not oh that's fine well no it's fine maybe it could you know change it to we're going beyond the moon to heaven you know uh take a take a stance on like a literal um placement of heaven yeah yeah yeah the song is actually more about like uh how i interpret scripture and where heaven is it's past the moon yep i i love when people take like pair like parody uh different songs
Starting point is 00:17:33 to make them christian like i was at young christian's weekend one time and this guy genuinely like like he was trying to be serious and change sweet home alabama to sweet home up in heaven nice sweet home up in heaven nice sweet home up in heaven and i don't remember what anything else he said was but i was like this don't do this just do your own songs yeah um anyway i went to these older elderly homes and we sang hymns to them and they were like some of these people obviously were yes very unresponsive but some of them were like so into it and happy to see some young faces it was really encouraging yeah just seeing them you know excited about hearing about this stuff so um it
Starting point is 00:18:12 was a good time it was different than last time because i had a lot of my my age friends you know our friends gunner and peter and their wives were all there and along with matt ford love love matt ford matt ford's black and so that helped because Trinidadians are often black. Hold up. Truck name, Matt Ford Black. Matt Ford's black. Matt Black Ford. Matt Black.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Oh, that's funny. I knew I'd have one by the end of the episode. The MBF. That's good. Wow. You just set me up. Put it on a T for me wow matt blackford anyway matt that was great to have there and really just upped our street cred you know so um anyway it was a
Starting point is 00:18:55 really fun time that's great yeah went to tobago on the last day which is like tobago a lot more touristy and it was so beautiful it was one of the most beautiful ocean views i'd ever seen did you go to that one place that sells you uh like shark burgers on the yeah yeah shark bake my shark bake my name is written on brick somewhere in that establishment i should have told you that beforehand yeah oh no way yeah there's like that big wall of like names yeah my name's on there no i promise i'm sorry i would have seen it i'll tell you before the next time you go yeah please yeah right we went to this did you guys go to the nylon pool is what they called it
Starting point is 00:19:35 it was like i think i would have remembered that it was like four feet it was it was not an actual pool it was just a part of the ocean no i No, I think they call it nylon because it was so clear. Like the water was so clear and so perfectly pristine. Cool. But apparently the sand there is where Princess Margaret used to go and exfoliate her skin. Who is Princess Margaret? Yeah, that's a good question. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Queen Elizabeth, her sister is Princess Margaret. Do you think they would have called her Margin and Charge? Oh, for sure. If she was the queen, they probably would were called her margin in charge oh for sure or uh if she was the queen they probably would have called her that yeah extra marge yeah i can't believe it's not margarine yeah i can't believe it's not princess margarine yeah exactly um wait so wait what's the legend has it she used to lay there she used to like go and yeah put this sand on her skin and that helped her beauty and like it exfoliated her and so it was like like this you
Starting point is 00:20:25 know this trinidadian boat driver his name was captain jim captain jim they have like a kind of a jamaican style accent so he's like if you if you go there and you're over 40 and you exfoliate your skin that's a bad accent i don't think it's that bad i was kind of enjoying it you you you lose 10 years off your life or you know you lose 10 years off your life or, you know, you lose 10 years off your age or whatever. Yeah. If you're under 40 and you do it, you're forever young. And so we were like, Oh heck yeah. Yeah. Next day I wake up and I look at my face, which I put sand on and it had like, I don't have great, a great complexion anyway, but it had like made my entire face like break out so hard in like whiteheads and stuff. Yeah. So it turns out people from all across the world
Starting point is 00:21:04 are putting their face in the sand and they're just it's more ridden with germs than almost any other part of the world yeah it's like the glitter of the the ocean yeah anyway so yeah that was funny it happens to me like once every three years i get like this random breakout and it's always in like it's always extreme heat so i don't know if it was having to do with that sand or not but um anyway it's pretty cool to think like, man, this historical figure was in this random ocean. Now here we are. Did it actually feel cool?
Starting point is 00:21:33 Yeah. Because of that? I think. Princess Margaret? I mean, she's old. I don't know. I guess she just doesn't do it for me. If Winston Churchill were there?
Starting point is 00:21:42 That is very different. No, it's exactly i mean royalty in england and the prime minister of england aren't that different the iron curtain that's a speech i bet princess margaret did things well i don't know about them so they weren't that important well you don't know much more about winston i don't that's true but also actually here's my actual stance on this is yeah I think either way it wouldn't have done too much to me. Even if you said, hey, last week LeBron James was here. I don't know if that would have done much for me.
Starting point is 00:22:10 I don't think LeBron James. I think the fact that it's old history, and I don't know how long ago it was. I think it was, I understand that it was a while back. And that makes it seem cooler to me. Of like, people have been coming to this beautiful spot for years. Because like, nature never gets any more beautiful. That might be not true because trees can grow or whatever. But like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:22:32 Like beaches, like that beach, like Columbus discovered Trinidad. And it's like he saw that exact same water. Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, that's kind of cool. A similar, you know, view of this beautiful island like the landscape probably hasn't changed much from when it was discovered to right now that's why i thought it was cool like yeah this thing was like this and it's still probably very similar to that i think about that whenever um like well really any like landscape or thing in nature like whoa i wonder
Starting point is 00:23:02 how much they were freaking out when they found this yeah, like probably my favorite thing that I've ever seen at least in America is the Antelope like slot canyons where those like the walls of that those people and orange and red and So those are like underground if you're above ground you almost wouldn't even see him because there's such narrow slot canyons And so you know for years and years I'm sure people walking over them having no clue what was underneath them and then one day they go down and like holy crap do you think they just like lost a ball down like they were playing like soccer and they went down there like i'll get it and then they went down and they're like oh boy well hey the walls are purple down here jim you're gonna want to come down here check this out yeah i do think about that like wow that would be really
Starting point is 00:23:42 cool because we're kind of done with discovering things nowadays you know the things you discover now are going to be like science stuff you know like oh we split a proton no have you heard the fact though that like i don't remember five ten percent of all underwater things have been discovered like 90 is undiscovered yeah we know about more we've explored more of outer space than we have the ocean that's wild like we should start swimming there's 90 because it's so deep that we can't get to it and there's like no uh light that's what's tough like yeah i think it just gets so dark that it's hard to but you can't bring a light down there can't bring a flashlight um i think they've tried yeah well yeah i don't know maybe they haven't tried their iphone flashlight i bet it's just
Starting point is 00:24:21 so deep that like the pressure doesn't yeah i think you need quite a bit of apparati but maybe the science will get us there someday soon i think there is a big argument in the science community of like we spend so much money on space travel you know which i i'm down for it that's cool but we don't even know our own ocean you know it's like why is all this money going outer space we don't even know like what if they discover like just this massive so cool species that we don't even know exists what if they discover like just this massive so cool species that we don't even know exists that'd be awesome i know in our lifetime to find a new animal i mean i think we found new animals but something like revolutionary oh yeah let's do it like a like a like a monkey that has gills they can swim that is something that nightmares are made out of first
Starting point is 00:25:00 of all oh my gosh that'd be awesome wow would they bring it back up you think or do you think they'd just be like let's keep it i don't know what the what you do nowadays yeah it's exfoliated first and see how it reacts to that uh brad how do you feel about playing a little uh thing of currently trending oh man this this episode that is my jam j Jacob. I have some things prepared. Go for it. Okay. The first one I have is currently trending. Sleeping on my back. Really?
Starting point is 00:25:32 Yes. How recent is this? The last, basically in Trinidad, I started doing it. Why? I was very tired in Trinidad, so it was easier to fall asleep. No, it had nothing to do with Trinidad. It was everything to do with, you know, for the last, I'm going to guess six or seven weeks, maybe even more. I actually, since we've probably started this podcast, so whatever that is,
Starting point is 00:25:52 10 weeks now, direct correlation. Um, no. Uh, but my Achilles and like my ankle, I've been worrying about that for a while. I have, it, it like is a consistent pain in my life and I'm not positive. I think it might be because I'm sleeping on my stomach and like my, Oh, like my foot is like flexed. Yes. And I have been sleeping on my back and I have not been bothered as nearly as much. It's nice to pinpoint things yourself and like solve things yourself. It kind of feels cool. I don't, and I don't know if that's truly the case. No, it is because the first time I felt it was right after I played basketball. Okay. So you weren't sleeping during that? No, but I have been sleeping on my stomach pretty
Starting point is 00:26:32 consistently for almost the exact amount of time. So I realized like, maybe this is just stretching it the wrong way for an extended, I mean, eight hours at a time. So that's my thing. I'm sleeping on my back or my side but not my stomach interesting i've always kind of been a back sleeper i'm kind of like uh you see someone in a coffin that is how i sleep i i go to sleep that way i wake up that way you're just comatose not a lot of tossing and turning although naps i will go face down into the pillow. I don't know why. It just feels better for a nap. Like you just kind of collapse into bed and just take a snooze. Um, do you snore when you're on your back? That's a pretty common thing when you're on your back.
Starting point is 00:27:13 I don't know. I don't sleep with anyone. You've never heard of anybody complaining a roommate from across the room? No. There's been multiple times. Uh, Clayton Phillips was one of them. I remember, uh uh he was like sleeping over at the k-life house a couple years ago and he like sat up in the middle of the night and like
Starting point is 00:27:30 started saying stuff and so the next morning i'm like excited to tell him like dude you were saying some gnarly things you're asleep last night he's like dude that happens every time i sleep over at someone else's house only over and i was like so maybe it happens every night yeah i was like clayton you think maybe because that's the only time people around to tell you that's why it happened he's like oh he didn't realize it yeah i was like noton you think maybe because that's the only time people around to tell you that's why it could happen he's like oh he didn't realize it yeah i was like no you probably do this every night there's just no one else to tell you that every time i sleep at a hotel next to somebody else they always say i snore yeah it's the weirdest thing i don't know why that's hotels make me snore bro that's funny just not realizing that yeah my roommate in college
Starting point is 00:28:01 my first two years would uh sit straight up and just say gibberish, which is a little more creepy than like a full sentence. Oh, yeah. He'd throw in like maybe a word that I recognize, like, Suicide, suicide. What, David? Yeah. Suicide, suicide.
Starting point is 00:28:16 So he would respond to you when you said something? Yeah, it was like he was somewhat alert, but not enough to like form sentences, which is like weird, like in this like half-conscious state. No likey when i was in college we had like you know my fraternity we had two massive sleeping dorms yeah so it was like 40 guys each and so 40 guys per room and i slept like pretty much like touching beds almost with this other guy my first year there mega bed yeah no it wasn't like we were sharing beds but it was like yeah it was like it felt like we were right next to each other and he was like the super nice very wholesome guy
Starting point is 00:28:50 but in his sleep every once in a while man he would like say some say some choice words to me while i was like i was like morgan you cussed me out last night dude whoa that's weird yeah and it kind of freaks you out because like it's just scary it's like if this is in your subconscious like what are you repressing when you're just like walking around day to day life? Maybe. So I don't think that deeply about it. That could be. Anyway, it's just funny.
Starting point is 00:29:13 I love sleep talking. I think it's hilarious. My sister used to sleepwalk and that was what was kind of creepy. She'd just like walk out of her room and just stand and stare at you from the hallway. Like, Kaelin, go back best friends he he's the best man in my wedding he's a camp guy he would get up and pretend to sleepwalk and do all these things to mess with his mom that's pretty funny and his mom he said his mom was so sweet about it like like he would like just get in the refrigerator just start like throwing things out like and his
Starting point is 00:29:40 mom would be like casey sweetheart you're sleeping you go back to sleep and then you like take a broom and start sweeping the ceiling. And she was so sweet. She never got frustrated with me. Oh, my gosh. I don't think I could do that to my own mom. I don't know. Sometimes he's been known to fabricate some stories.
Starting point is 00:29:56 So who knows if that's really true. I do love that idea, though. I mean, just really messing with someone. Just doing like wake someone up and you've got every pillow in the the house in a circle and you're sitting in the middle of them like chanting things i have no idea yeah like oh where am i just like oh this is weird oh man that would be fun maybe next time you get a new roommate you could do that yeah night one i'm just freaking them out by having a little like goblet of soup prepared in the kitchen when they wake up. Goblet? That's a word I was not expecting to use on this podcast.

Starting point is 00:31:22 What's yours? Something currently trending for me in my life uh recently would be spending money unfortunately okay it just seems like a lot of it is going out fun expenses or necessary like because your basement flooded i know you don't have basement but like those kind of expenses or you know buying some new wireless headphones a A little bit of both. That are like necessary. Like you need these. You know what I mean? I need these. Like I need a dry basement.
Starting point is 00:31:48 Yeah. I feel like there's always going to be something once a month that happens. You know, car got towed last month. Yeah. That sucked to pay that. There's no, yeah,
Starting point is 00:31:57 no real reward except for you get your car back. Yeah. Every month there's going to be something. My computer crapped out on me like two weeks ago oh yeah i was texting about that so i was able to get fixed but you know that cost me like 250 dollars and then uh which could have been worse but yeah so that cost me 250 dollars to basically just get it working again and then hawaii trip is coming up in like two weeks um and i'm just kind of running the show with that so So I've spent all the money on the Airbnb
Starting point is 00:32:25 and now I'm booking all the car rentals. So I'll get that money back from people. Those are fun expenses. It's just a lot of money going out and it's like, oh, I was out of town for a week. Trey's out of town this week, you know? Yeah, not making it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Don't work, you don't eat. Yeah, so, but my defense mechanism is just to kind of not think about it and then i'll be fine that's uh that's america's defense mechanism sometimes too so yeah and look they turn out great yeah we're good we're good so yeah just spending a lot of money but i'll be fine how do you feel if someone just was like hey i just forgive all that expenses you know like like you have all this debt no problem oh someone relieved my debt i would be a happy boy that would be awesome another thing sorry money going out the utilities
Starting point is 00:33:13 for my new apartment so expensive my share 150 compared to what last time uh i think 80 like so almost doubled from june to july you think that was because wait may to june you're not in like a legit room before or you think like well this is just like we're all splitting it evenly so it's just like the cost of just air conditioning just it got so much hotter yeah right that sucks air conditioning is expensive and your house is old and so i'm sure it has terrible insulation and like that does suck. A hundred dollars per person, 150 per person. That's for everything.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Yeah. But still all youths. That's crazy, man. Just don't like spending money. So that was a boring what's trending, but just, Hey,
Starting point is 00:33:56 part of my life. No. Yeah. That's not be proud of your life, man. It just wasn't that entertaining. I feel like, but I'll do better on the next one. I'll, I'll, I'll talk to you about something part of my life, man. It just wasn't that entertaining, I feel like. Okay. I'll do better on the next one.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Well, I'll talk to you about something part of my life. Okay. Next thing is pursuing healthier habits. Yeah, baby. Talk about exciting. Let me tell you. Is this the whole drink water thing all over again? No.
Starting point is 00:34:18 That's a good idea, though, to always drink water. Well, when I walked in here, you were sucking down on some kombucha. Sucking down? I was just drinking it, okay? Oh, oh well that's just how i say it um yeah that's kind of part of it so i decided recently i was like i need to lose some weight cool i don't think it's a secret like you know i have a trick for you that's going to come into play in my next trending thing so perfect get ready this planned out. You know, that's why we're doing it in this order. There's a script to this. Um, but I decided, I was like the best way for me to lose weight. Like Catherine, Catherine eats healthier than I do. I'm not going to say she
Starting point is 00:34:53 doesn't. Okay. But she does not eat exponentially healthier than I do. And she is exponentially smaller. Like she is tiny. Yeah. And so I've decided like, if Catherine's the only person that I'm doing this kind of thing with, it's not, it's not going to be great. And so I've decided like if Catherine's the only person that I'm doing this kind of thing with, it's not going to be great. And so I texted some of my, you know, more gravity defined, defying, not defying, whatever it is. Gravity challenged friends. I don't know. Large boys. There we go.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Okay. Hey, are you guys interested in doing a weight loss competition? And I had, so I want to do a competition like against other people. Because if I do a competition i i like yeah that's winning things um but i also wanted to have some incentive behind it and so put some money on it i said i want it to be a year long so i want to be like a serious i don't want to be a fan like i know i can lose weight and just stop stop eating things for like a month congratulations you lose weight and then you put it back on right that's that happens to all large people in life and so i was like i want to have better habits
Starting point is 00:35:49 and i want to so i wanted to be a year long and i want to be enough money to where i am motivated to not lose yeah and so it was enough money to where like almost everyone said no except for my brother-in-law my brother-in-law anthony and I are doing it together. And we are doing $400 each for this competition. And is it like percentage of weight lost? It is. Okay, that's fair. Because he is a little bit skinnier than me. And so it is percentage.
Starting point is 00:36:20 And we are doing both short-term and long-term kind of rewards. So every three months, we're going to weigh in. And whoever wins the difference in weight, like the new ratio. So let's say he lost 10% of his weight. I lost 12%. I would get one-eighth of the winnings. Okay? Nice.
Starting point is 00:36:40 So basically, it amounts to you get one-half of the winnings paid out in those three-month increments. So all four of those. And then one half goes to the ultimate winner at the end. Nice. So that's my life right now. So I'm trying to get on board with intermittent fasting. Oh, man. I've heard of that.
Starting point is 00:37:00 It sounds awful. No, it's essentially just the millennial version of skipping breakfast is what i feel like it is like they have a name for it now but it's like like i got an idea like you know how everyone says it's the most important meal of the day just don't eat it and you'll lose a bunch of weight huh so i was doing that in college and didn't know it yeah and you're doing all right with your life look at me so anyway kind of just not eating until you know noon or so and then just millennials are good at rebranding things, I feel like. I realized that the other day. I was like, that's just what Tyler did every single day of grade school.
Starting point is 00:37:33 He was super skinny. And everyone was like, I don't know if you can do that, Tyler. He was poor and he couldn't afford breakfast. But still, he was on to something. I've kind of talked about this on Instagram before. But one of the millennial rebrands that i think is so annoying is the word adulting i hate it don't do it i just and i'm sure there are people who are listening who have used it i don't hate you but i just think it's such a
Starting point is 00:37:56 like silly word like uh you know laundry and i had to deposit stuff at the bank today shout out to me for adulting you don't deserve a shout out these are just things we all do that is and it's not like i'm annoyed you're posting about it i think it truly is the word adulting actually i'm a little annoyed you're posting about it because well but you do understand like oh man like it is kind of hard growing up like it but it's part of life but that's what every other person has ever done. Right. It's not like a new thing that we have all of a sudden. Like, hey, I graduated college. I know my mom didn't have to, but I had to start doing my own bills.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Yeah. Whatever. Yeah, that's true. I've noticed. I was watching your Instagram story today. You get annoyed with things online. I don't know how legitimate that truly annoyed you are. Or is it it's just like oh i'm just thinking about these things but i never like the things you're like annoyed with i'm like yeah i never let those things get to the
Starting point is 00:38:54 the part of my heart that you know has feelings i don't know that's funny yeah because something about it it truly is like really the only thing that like gets under my skin at all is technology. Yeah. Oh, excuse me. When I'm sitting in the same spot and I haven't moved and I send three texts in a row and the first two texts send and then the third one doesn't send, I get so mad at Sprint. I'm like, what changed? What happened, Sprint? What? Why is it?
Starting point is 00:39:21 Why not send now? I get so frustrated. My dad and I talk on the phone once a week. I would say four out of five times. We do not finish a phone call without my end dropping the phone call. It is infuriating. It is 2019. How are we dropping calls?
Starting point is 00:39:35 Yeah. You get me worked up now. That's a fair. That's a fair frustration. I get so mad at Sprint. I don't mind. On a daily basis. Hey, Sprint, bring your best.
Starting point is 00:39:44 I don't mind. I don't mind stuff like that that's a valid frustration but like what would you frustrate oh you're frustrated i'll say you're frustrated like snapchat uh story yeah just maybe because i didn't even talk about this on instagram but there's 12 year old boys on there true you have to see the same stuff that's inappropriate yeah it's awful it is it makes me thankful that we didn't have snapchat middle school but it sucks that they have to go through it oh yeah i yeah i'm just like embarrassed to be not totally embarrassed but it sucks to kind of be a part of the society that is perpetuating this like clickbait like i don't know well because pop-ups got went away so that's what
Starting point is 00:40:18 that's what is that's the uh what's the result of that maybe i don't know i don't know that's proven or anything i don't know i think that's like clickbait the reason what's the result of that maybe i don't know i don't know that's proven or anything i don't know i think that's like clickbait the reason it's popular is because then you click on it and then they give you ads right yeah just like if you get you know that more people to be on your website you're like i'm intrigued by this you click on it yeah and then boom you get charged like you can charge ads for that back in the day there were pop-ups that you people were charging for i think and now you never get a pop-up, right? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:40:47 That's a theory. I haven't thought about pop-ups in years. Remember you had pop-up blockers? I remember the first laptop I ever got freshman year of college, I installed AdBlocker Plus as a Chrome extension. And it's been on Chrome for nine years now. Man, good for you. I haven't changed. It's a good program.
Starting point is 00:41:04 But yeah, for some reason, technology and instagram that stuff can like bug me i think because it's so just like it's so present and i'm on it all the time it's just easy because i don't get annoyed by people really and i guess you have to be on that or you don't have to but like that's part of i hate using this term but it's part of your brand or whatever you want to call it like you are on you are you are present on social media in order to show people to like you are to not be out of touch with it right because my answer whenever you're annoyed with that stuff is like just don't use snapchat bro just get off like I don't I don't have I think I have a username but I don't have it installed on my phone or anything like yeah get if you are annoyed with snapchat
Starting point is 00:41:42 just get the heck off of it but I understand like, you probably need to be on it for some reason. So. And a lot of times it's like, I don't really want to avoid it. It's like, these are personal friends of mine doing things on Instagram that are annoying me, which is bad. But the one,
Starting point is 00:41:55 the one trend that I got annoyed with, and I'm sure it's very, uh, commonly annoyed and frustrating is the boomerang. Like those just, I did not ever like those boomerang and that's people still do them but like oh just in general just posting on instagram yeah just see that to me seems like we're a really silly thing to be annoyed at well it just i just never really
Starting point is 00:42:14 enjoyed them and i was like these are way too popular right now they were in yeah typically the things that i get annoyed at are just like i don't know really self-seeking things or just really like pretty self-centered platform and it's hard not to like i don't know really self-seeking things or just really like pretty self-centered platform and it's hard not to like i think you could probably argue that people would misunderstand things that we do as self-centered too oh absolutely and i've maybe maybe maybe we're truly in our heart of hearts it is self-centered but i've mentioned that to you as other people i think and i truly believe this at the core of posting on social media in general you have to be at least somewhat
Starting point is 00:42:49 egotistical to think that anyone cares about this i think you have to i think there's no way to 100 post anything on the internet in a selfless manner that's fair because the reason i don't post very often is because i'm like people don't really care about you know this picture of my daughter and i at the park yeah you know and so the fact that we are creating this podcast right now it's that we have a little bit of ego in us that says yeah yeah people want to hear us but i think most of what it's like oh we love we feel very fulfilled by like entertaining people yeah we can do that without trying too hard it's not purely selfless yes i understand what you're saying yeah you're right so i feel like i gotta yeah you brought your best on that cut to the core
Starting point is 00:43:29 well yeah and i've just been on social media for so long i need to think about why i'm doing the things i do i'm pretty introspective so i'm like why am i posting this where is my heart at with this and so yeah i think of at the core of it we're all a little egotistical but as long as you're not too wrapped up in it, you're better. Yeah, how do you work on social media without being wrapped up in social media? Like, that's not something you can answer necessarily. It might be rhetorical, but, like, that just seems hard to not be, like, too – you can't care too much, but you have to care some about what's going on with everybody. It is an interesting balance back when i was youtubing full-time that was it was definitely tough because it's like
Starting point is 00:44:08 you know if quite honestly the more i look at the analytics the better the channel is going to grow if i look at the click-through rate of thumbnails that have my face up close then i can compare that to you know like you can really get into it and then chase after that but then is that really going to be fulfilling to change your thumbnail and then okay cool you got more views people don't like the video any better but you got 10 more thousand people to click on it you know so it was tough trying to find that balance of like what is worth my time investing in so that i end up being like more fulfilled and more proud of this and honestly ever since last summer i feel like i've been a really healthy place for
Starting point is 00:44:44 social media doing the lme bottle limo thing yeah just being so proud of what i'm making that i do not care really who watches it like i'm gonna post it about it i'm gonna like shout it from the rooftop because i think people will enjoy it but at the end of it i'm just like man this is awesome yeah and that's kind of still where i'm at i could not tell you the amount of comments or likes i've gotten on any of my most recent instagrams like just like this is cool i think this is fun to post this is a cool picture yeah good okay that's a good answer got a little off topic there anyway so i'm gonna lose 150 pounds this next year probably uh my goal is to be skinnier than you um okay no a little way in
Starting point is 00:45:22 then we could be in the same weight class we could finally box we could finally like we've always wanted yeah hey man i would love to box you bro i just i'm too big for you we know this not in the same michael buffer won't announce us you know talk about a voice having a brand like ice cube oh man that dude buffer knows yeah he gets paid like a million dollars every time he says let's get ready to rumble way are you serious i don't know i don't know look it up real quick that's so much look it up and i'll say my next currently trending how much he gets paid to say let's get ready to rumble that would be so neat boy would i be happy for him that is the easiest million dollars i can think of to make yeah that is not gambling even then well I guess they're kind of similar
Starting point is 00:46:05 they're probably both happening in Las Vegas you had to get there anyway while Brad's typing my thing that's currently trending for me is having sand in my eye played a little sand volleyball two nights there's no way this is true
Starting point is 00:46:22 what's it say? 5 million dollars that's wild. Five million dollars? That's ten times more than I've ever been paid to say a sentence. That was a joke. I was going to say. You're running the numbers.
Starting point is 00:46:36 Sorry, I was back to reading this thing. I was like, wait a second. My gosh. He trademarked the phrase back in the day. I didn't know you could do that. A phrase? What does that mean? So no one's allowed to, maybe within the realm of like wrestling, no one is allowed to say
Starting point is 00:46:52 it except for him. Right. But you could just say other phrases. Let's fight, boys. Well, they say, let's get it on. That's what they say somewhere. That's MXC. MXC?
Starting point is 00:47:03 MXC, remember that old Japanese game show? It's get it on. Yeah, maybe that's not mxc mxc mxc remember that old like japanese game show let's get it on is it yeah maybe that's that's a lot of trademarks i think they see that in ufc or something too do we owe him money for saying let's get ready to rumble oh i don't have that much money it's trending for me i'm spinning it it's going out five millions a lot let's let's uh let's let's edit it to bumble oh okay Yeah. Bumble's the sponsor of this episode. Is it? Well, no, I was just thinking, I was like, wait, should we get sponsors? I mean, yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:35 We wouldn't really earn much money yet. We'll see. We'll see how much money I keep spending, and then we'll decide if I should seek out some sponsors. We'll see how many more Hawaii trips you plan. Yeah, jeez. I've got to figure out a way to start making money off traveling because there's definitely a need for like i once again i've got like seven strangers going on this trip with me like i feel like that's a skill like and anytime you're skilled at something you should be paid for it have you ever tried to just sell your footage to whoever like the resort or i know you don't say at a resort but like even sell your footage to
Starting point is 00:48:03 the airbnb i haven't i and i i mean it would be so easy just to email them but I think it's just like that's such a millennial thing I'm just like hey I would love to get a discount whatever if I just shoot some stuff for you no don't ask for a discount don't ask for like uh yeah don't don't do it before the fact do it after the. And then just promote it as like... Because I think if you can go and look at something... My big marketing tactic is features versus benefits. I know we've talked about it before. Sell me this pen.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Right. Oh, yeah, exactly. Did we talk about it on the podcast? I can't remember. We've definitely had this conversation. Anyway, features versus benefits. Microphones. It's one thing to say an Airbnb has 16 beds and it has, you know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Sleeps this many people, has this many people has this many TVs This many square footage, but if you can then imagine your family going there and having the best vacation of their lives There's a whole nother Value point like getting to come back to air conditioning that makes you feel Rejuvenated and it's got a large table where you can right share meals on yeah yeah play cards or whatever yeah and so if you made a video that showed you and your friends having fun at this specific resort this specific airbnb something like that that then they could post on their website yeah or ad or whatever they could then charge potentially more money yeah so if you market
Starting point is 00:49:23 it as like if you charge $200 more for every single thing you do and you make you know a hundred of these bookings every year I don't know whatever yeah I'm kind of point where I like it in my career with videos where it's like it seems silly to make something without knowing it's gonna like return anything for me yeah but you're already making videos right yeah but not that are like brand super like brandy like oh this is a really well done like commercial looking video for an airbnb this is just like my memories of me saying some dumb stuff when i was hiking you know those are the videos i like making i guess i don't think you need to
Starting point is 00:49:59 make it like an extensive thing i think you can make it like a i don't know maybe you don't bring your drone everywhere you go but like a drone footage shot and then some b is it called b-roll yes b-roll of people laughing inside the airbnb it doesn't have to be like panning around the room yeah i don't know i guess i'm more looking to like make some money traveling by taking people on trips yeah i feel like that's where i i am so happy i'm in my element like making sure people have fun on a trip basically having a tour guide business yeah which you kind of try to do one time yeah we can you gotta keep trying i know i'm going to i got another meeting next week okay i'm gonna figure this out i'm determined to i think you can man i think yeah the maybe having more specific
Starting point is 00:50:42 like this is exactly what's going to happen on our trip, which I guess you did. I did that last time. Yeah. It's all good. Oh, one quick thing on the Kauai Airbnb. When I booked it two weeks ago, four people had booked their flights. It sleeps four.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Now, eight people are coming, and two more told me by the end of today that they'll let me know if they're coming. Aloha. So I'm real cramped. Real cheap, though. Super cheap. Honestly, yeah. It's so cheap. me by the end of today that they'll let me know if they're coming so i'm real cramped real cheap though super cheap honestly yeah it's so cheap i'm getting i don't think the people oh another thing sorry i'm getting off topic now uh named our group chat oh actually try to guess what i named our group chat just keep in mind we're going to hawaii specifically the island kawaii
Starting point is 00:51:20 kawaii leonard exactly thought it was a pretty good pun no feedback been two weeks no one said a word about kawaii leonard any guys uh yeah we got dudes but not even like anyone saying like what is this name like no negative no positive everyone's just acting like they expected it to go down this way anyway so yeah it's gonna be cramped it's gonna be so cheap um is it worth it to just get another airbnb i think what we'll do it's got a sectional couch can sleep two on there it's got another couch that i saw and then i think we'll get buy like a queen size air mattress on like day one for two people sleep there and then just return it or leave it there so we'd be all right um anyway currently
Starting point is 00:52:00 trending for me is having sand in my eye okay don't know if you heard that uh played same volleyball two nights ago. Still? Yeah, still in there. What? Might have scratched the cornea, or maybe it's still in there. Maybe the iris? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Okay. But maybe. Specifically the knees. But what I was going to say, weight loss tactic for you. I, it was the most humid atmosphere I've maybe ever been in two nights ago. I don't know if you were outdoors were you even in the states two two nights ago that was tuesday night that was when we returned at like midnight and so now i don't know what happened to outside but i i don't get
Starting point is 00:52:36 that wet when i'm in the shower it was unbelievable how sweaty i was by playing i mean just sand covering my body it was everywhere and then you can't white you know you dive and then i can't wipe it off my face because i'm covered in sand it was unbelievable oh boy i was all over it um i need to take advantage of this weather though and just just start just sit outside just sit outside recorded this outside in a pool of your own sweat uh-huh man yeah it's good sweating is good i'll tell you you could travel around on a limo for a few months i lost 10 pounds in like probably two weeks really that first little stretch it was so hot like garbage i ate like normal for me but yeah it was maybe just the amount i was sweating yeah just lost some weight um yeah that's we go back to you now i just got sand in my eye it's
Starting point is 00:53:20 pretty annoying do you ever get to spike the ball in spike ball in volleyball oh yeah i do i mean i'm not necessarily um you know i would say for a 27 year old male volleyball is probably my best sport compared to other 27 year old males oh yeah but on like on a sand court it's not exactly like i'm a huge threat to like hit this ball. Okay. Because, you know, vertical is nothing crazy. And then the sand, you know, makes you feel larger than you are. Like you just, yeah, you just are sluggish. But. Yeah, I could play some volleyball.
Starting point is 00:53:56 I enjoy volleyball. We play once a year and it's at the beach with Catherine's family. And nobody that plays is like extremely good. And so I wonder if i played with somebody else if i would be good at all but it's really fun come out come out to volleyball beach and 9 15 on tuesdays okay where is that it is might as well be in branson it is so far south i don't know why we play down there um i hate when people say that it's so far south but maybe it is really actually far south i don't know even where it is it's not that far west but it's it's down there
Starting point is 00:54:30 okay um i would love to thanks for the invite you're welcome dude i'll be there you got anything else trending in your life oh i do um next one is american flags let me tell you uh it was obviously fourth of july this past week and um hattie must have caught the fever whenever I was gone in Trinidad. Caught that fever. Because everywhere we go now, she freaks out when she sees American flags. And it's really fun. What do you mean freaks out? She just gets so excited. Just like, Dad, American flag on that house. Dad, look at those American flags. That's kind of fun.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Yeah, so today in the car. I think we can all learn a lesson from hattie's patriotism i love it i i mean it is it is the most katherine thing that she probably has because katherine is also very much like that we have two american flags in our house okay because we have a front door and a back door we have two holders for them you guys have a texas flag anywhere in here no we don't i heard a stat one time that the texas flag is in a college dorm room six times more than any other state flag combined. That's funny. Keep going.
Starting point is 00:55:29 No, it's true. It's also a huge state, and they're very proud of where they're from. Yeah. But anyway, so today, like, we literally, like, took an extra lap. Not a lap, but, you know, like, drove the long way home to, like, go look at more American flags. Called a pat lap. A pat lap? I don't know. They call them, like, frat laps in college i'm thinking like a patriotic oh pat lap like a pat lap there you go yeah exactly never heard of that term frat lap you don't heard frat lap i don't think so i didn't even go to a college ed fraternities i heard a
Starting point is 00:55:56 frat lap it's like i think girls do like hop in the car and take a frat lap like drive around like all the houses yeah maybe i mean i'm not a girl so maybe that's why that is a good point i haven't heard of it but anyway american flags from hattie this is such a weird thing that's trending in your life i i'll be honest i struggled to figure out exactly what was trending in my life so that was one of them that's fine yeah this is our life yeah um i've got a few things i'm trying to think of what else is trending um i went to colorado last week while you were in trinidad which was pretty fun i had a real good time uh just being in colorado in general in the summertime was great it's great amazing in the summer so yeah i'd only ever been to colorado in the summertime to film weddings so i didn't really
Starting point is 00:56:42 get the full colorado experience but um where in colorado crescent butte crescent butte and i guess crescent butte is kind of known for their own fourth of july celebrations which i didn't really realize but they have like a parade yeah which is really fun um and yeah we just went hiking everything and i'm guessing you didn't have internet in trinidad right not really i had data but it was very slow so i never looked into your stories but one of isaac of Isaac, our friend. Our friend Isaac. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:08 He told me that you had lots of stories. Yeah. Jake's got a lot of stuff going on. And it was not, I'll be honest, it wasn't the most positive tone of Jake's got a lot of stuff on his stories. Thanks for throwing that in there. I didn't see them specifically. But what were you going to say? I mean, I did post a lot.
Starting point is 00:57:24 I did like a, I wasn't even planning on doing this. I was more just like recording. I don't know. I just do that sometimes. But it ended up being like a behind the scenes of what hiking is really like. Like sometimes you just see the final picture like, oh, I should go hiking. This is great. It was bad.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Hiking is hard. Well, it was very – we didn't know there was going to be like so much snow. So, I mean, it was like – it ended know there's going to be like so much snow so i mean we're asked it was like a end up being over 10 miles of hiking and we think three or four miles of it was in like several feet of snow 10 miles well what we're estimating is like how much was in snow i think like three to four miles of it was walking in snow where you're like going down to like your shins and your knees what it was awful i mean just so exhausting a 10 mile hike is a lot yes yeah like that is not unheard of like and we did it at 10 000 feet i had eaten a chocolate chip pancake
Starting point is 00:58:12 that morning so anyway i just documented that and it was it was a little rough 10 000 feet was the peak or 10 000 feet was where you started i think we got up to 11 000 we started like okay i guess that make i mean not discounting anything because that's a lot. But I've always hiked 14ers. You've always hiked 14ers. Every single time. Okay, Olathe. In Colorado, I've always hiked 14ers.
Starting point is 00:58:35 But they're like two to four-mile hikes. But a lot of elevation gain. You probably park at like 10,000. So I'm like, you hiked a 14 – that's what I was thinking in my head like you've hiked a 10 mile 14 or height but regardless that is a long time yeah even more time to be in the snow like that's that's that's miserable and pretty lost too it was like a little scary because you couldn't find the trail yeah there's no trails you can't see them starting to run out of water and it's just like dang like and we can't see anyone else we're by ourselves oh my gosh yeah it was a little sketch had grant done it before yes when there was less
Starting point is 00:59:10 right no snow and a trail gosh but you guys you guys did not stop like you were like no we're going oh absolutely and we yeah there was no question i mean we had to get back to our car so at that point like we didn't get lost until we would like turn around and go back oh you couldn't see your footsteps no no i need to show you the videos of like what we were like dealing with like this it was it was just i guess i would imagine you could see the trail of where you went up wow well it sounds like a blast man it's a decent story now but it was like a little i mean we did have fun like it was obviously a good time still but yeah
Starting point is 00:59:51 a little sketch um quick story from uh leaving colorado i took a shuttle at 6 a.m from crested butte back into denver um so one of those great nights stayed up until like 2 or 3 a.m watching some stranger things wake up get on no sleep and i'm like i can sleep the whole shuttle ride you So one of those, Grant and I stayed up until like 2 or 3 a.m. watching some Stranger Things. Wake up, get on no sleep, and I'm like, I can sleep the whole shuttle ride. You know, it's going to be great. So there's a couple stops in. We're like two hours into the shuttle. Get off at a gas station.
Starting point is 01:00:15 And so now we're like re-boarding the bus. And I kind of catch this couple in front of me is having a conversation with a guy who's, I think, just boarded and like accidentally stole their seat. And so they're like, oh, we were sitting there. You know what? It's fine. We'll see if we can find another seat. They go to the back. I'm like, hey, there's actually not any two seats next to each other. We'd like to sit next to each other. We have a seat back. He's like, yeah, that's great. So then he starts walking to the back of the bus, walks all the way back, and walks all the way back to the front. I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no no no no no no no no and then he he gives he turns and he looks at me he says hey man can i sit here i'm like no because i'm like i'm laying
Starting point is 01:00:50 out i'm like curled up like laying on this like this two seat bench oh boy like you gotta be kidding me and then i mean it was like out of a movie or something so he just i mean as soon as it's down how you doing man how's it going like good good you take the show often no first time yeah me too and then he hits me with i feel like he knows that this is a pet peeve he hits me with the weather talk weather's been great lately huh like i feel like weather is such a like everyone knows that it's the small talk fallback don't talk about it do not talk to me about the weather because it basically says to me i have no other common ground i have nothing to talk to you about but i want to talk to you still
Starting point is 01:01:27 i think it just shows such a lack of effort conversationally in bringing up weather well okay don't talk to you about the weather have i not talked about that before no oh yeah very anti-weather okay um anti-enneagram i know yeah that's different um but yeah the weather i just think it's so lazy just like getting humid huh yeah man i yeah for sure anyway uh so where this is going is so i am i'm decently annoyed in my own head like can't leave this guy's talking to me all i want to do is sleep next thing i know 30 minutes has passed we're sharing uh photos on our phone with each other videos we're talking it's going great. About an hour passes and we've kind of stopped talking. I've drifted to sleep a little bit but then I wake up a little bit.
Starting point is 01:02:10 I've got my headphones in now, I'm listening to music and then we come to another stop and just like that, he just gets up and leaves. Didn't say bye. I don't know his name. I really felt like we bought it. We had a true arc of a story and he just got up and left and it truly left me confused. Maybe because your headphones were on. His name, like, I really felt like we bought it. Like, we had a true, like, arc of a story, and he just got up and left.
Starting point is 01:02:27 And it, like, truly left me, like, confused. Maybe because your headphones were in. Yeah, maybe. And you were just like, I don't want to bother this guy. But he definitely wanted to bother me earlier. I mean, it was, like, borderline, like, is this dude flirting with me at first? Like, he was so friendly at first. And, I mean, he won me over.
Starting point is 01:02:41 Yeah, and then he betrayed you. Yeah, it was a weird feeling. Wow. And then I just went back to sleep. Sorry about it, man. That's too bad. That's really interesting and leaves. Yeah, it was a weird feeling. And then he just went back to sleep. Sorry about it, man. That's too bad. That's really interesting. Funny. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:49 Anything else trending for you? Yeah, I wrote down one more thing. It's so random. Actually, I think it might be a Jake Triplett-ism that I have. Cool. Or maybe a Luke Crenshaw turned Jake Triplett-ism that turned Brad Ellis. Speaking of him real quick, Jackson Hole. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:05 Listens to the podcast, by the way. Jackson, pony up. Yeah. And he was also roommates with Luke Crenshaw for eight months. And I was too. It's crazy. At the Institute? Yeah, wild.
Starting point is 01:03:15 Oh, I didn't realize that they were roommates. It was so fun. He was a chief or a junior counselor, something, whenever I was at K-Country. Yeah, great guy. He picked me up from the bus station in Denver. I'd never met him before. Wow. Yeah, it was fun.
Starting point is 01:03:26 We just hung out all day. Oh, someone's calling me from Hawaii. It's the car rental place. I'll call it back later. That's funny. Whenever I saw Hawaii, I was like, oh man, it's going to cost you more money because it's out of the country.
Starting point is 01:03:37 And I was like, ooh, better not pick that up. It feels like Hawaii should not be, I don't know. When you're there, it doesn't feel like it either. They don't have snakes. Okay, it's Jake Triplettism, maybe? On your feet is the term that i have been using a lot i feel like you say that do you say that like on your feet so like like whenever i was in trinidad like for whatever
Starting point is 01:03:56 reason like we played a lot of ping pong in trinidad yeah i i would say i'm not as good as most of the people there but i would beat them every once in a while, specifically Isaac. Isaac actually only beat me once the whole trip. Nice. But after every single game that I would beat him, I would just walk around. The ministry that we were part of is called TTUM. And so I would just walk around kind of like the gladiator does, you know,
Starting point is 01:04:23 and just go, TTUM, on your feet. Let me hear you. Puffing up my arms like, let's go, babyum on your feet let me hear you like pumping up my arms like let's go baby on your feet and so then it became like a joke like we'd go to like uh we went to that tobago beach and it was like pretty quiet pretty chill the whole time and uh i lost a game and so i had to do that like as loud as i could everybody tobago on your feet so So I did it, you know, I did it in all the airports, you know, not super loud or anything, but like, let's go Miami, go on your feet. Miami International, let me hear you. We, you know, we got wheels down or whatever the word is, touchdown in Kansas City.
Starting point is 01:04:57 And I was like, let's go Kansas City on your feet. You know, it's like midnight. Like everyone else is like, why is this guy talking? Oh, i love stuff like that that's pretty funny that's not really me uh great hudiburg says that actually is it yeah the you may have got it from the video i made of us bungee jumping in new zealand he when we're on top of the mountain he yells queenstown get on your feet that could be i definitely don't feel like it was my original thing so that makes sense
Starting point is 01:05:24 yeah we said that a couple times while hiking. He was like, crested butte on your feet. Let me hear you. So funny. It's a pretty fun thing to just pretend like there's a huge audience around you. That you're like firing up. Yeah, where really there's no one watching you. In fact, they're kind of annoyed that you're speaking at that volume.
Starting point is 01:05:40 Right, come on, bro. Just chill. But it became kind of an inside joke with some of the other people on the on the trip so i love when every ski trip i've been on uh has been with matt kelly good friend of mine i was in his wedding which is wild because we've never worked together we didn't go to college together we literally bonded on a ski trip and then just kept skiing together and stayed in touch via phone call but every ski trip we went on we would have a catchphrase and it was just so fun to yell right before you go down black diamond just to say it what would you say well now i can't remember what they were i think i know one year it was right when this was like the third year
Starting point is 01:06:13 of doing it so i think they probably got worse as we went but um justin bieber had recently come out with love yourself uh and so our catchphrase was my mama don't like you that's what we would say okay that was not a good example that's not the best one you had no i don't think so but it's all point being it's fun up catchphrases for just like a trip oh 100 or just a point of life yeah just inside joke it's also fun when your catchphrase gets trademarked and you get paid five million dollars to say it what do we need it yeah or what was commons on your feet oh bring your best bring your best i was thinking be your best bring your best bring your best um i have two more currently trending you do updates i don't have any all just the same real quick um bachelor videos i kind of stumbled
Starting point is 01:07:01 into that helping a friend out get ready for her bachelor audition. And then I've had like three other girls hit me up about it. So I'm like, dang, do I need to like rebrand as a videographer? Like this is what I do. Yeah. So we'll see if any of that ends up happening. So you've done three or four already? I've been like contacted by three other girls to do it.
Starting point is 01:07:19 I haven't done any of them yet. We did that first one. Well, even that was more, that wasn't even supposed to be a Bachelor thing. She was just like, she's just like a good friend. We were just going to like hang out. She wanted like, anyway, it didn't even, it kind of just evolved into a Bachelor thing. So I haven't even finished that either. Anyway, so that's training for me is making videos for a show that I've never seen. And then the last thing, I feel like it's been training the last two weeks or so for me.
Starting point is 01:07:42 It's just giving advice. People have just been seeking advice for me. You're just a pinnacle of Oracle of wisdom. But it's not necessarily that I feel qualified. Like just last night, for example, a guy hits me up. I think he maybe it started off by saying I listen to the podcast or something. But anyway, it turned into like, hey, I make spoken word videos. Can you like take a look at them and see what you think?
Starting point is 01:08:02 You know, I'm like, I don't know how to grow a spoken word channel, i'll give you you know here's what i think you know whatever and so i feel like i'm in that situation close to once a day really i would say two out of every three days i'm giving advice on something i'm like i don't i don't totally know how to like what makeup channels on youtube like need like you know but here's you got a surgeon calling you like yeah I got the head open but I'm not really sure where the adula oblongata really truly is do you need a frontal lobe or is that kind of like an appendix yeah you're fine without it right buddy you're like googling it like honestly I think you should keep it in there all right in there you know you gotta like he puts his hand on the phone hey Jake says we should keep it in there hey did you oh he already took it out okay we're probably you know what we took it out buddy is that okay uh uh yeah jake said it's fine it'll be it'll be fine yeah but and even since doing
Starting point is 01:08:55 this i think i have a lot of people who hit me up like hey i'm wanting to start my podcast how do i do it and i'm happy to help but i'm also like I wasn't seeking you know part of me I guess I think I more get annoyed at myself for being too stubborn to ask other people for advice because it was kind of tricky for for us to figure this out and I didn't ask anyone you know I'm just like stubborn I think and probably like no I'm gonna figure this out I you know but it's confusing to start your own podcast yeah and so part of me is like dang I should be better about not being afraid to ask other people for advice I love asking people for advice yeah you do a better job of that than me i'll say it uh well thanks i just i feel like i just know a lot of people that are way more specialized in
Starting point is 01:09:35 things than i am yeah so like that that computer problem you had you're like does anybody know a computer person i was like i know exactly who that's great as soon as you texted me that i deleted the story and just texted him for an hour yeah so i appreciate it awesome dude you know stuff like that speaking of brain surgeons real quick uh did you ever have the thing at camp that was like c1 do one teach one like that whole thing c1 h1n1 i think uh no yeah we had a big outbreak in uh oh nine furtherness actually swine in oh nine was the actual thing at camp not great and for the rest of the united states i think anyway it was ward weeby's thing and i think he got it from like a it's like a surgeon c1 it's like uh they say it like with an appendectomy like you
Starting point is 01:10:16 see it done and then you do it and then once once you're able to teach someone how to do it then you really know it like then you are an expert once you can teach someone how to do something like not just doing it so that was his thing for like being a camp counselor and even just like having a conversation with a kid or like mountain biking like you need to be not just good enough to do it you need to be good enough to teach it and um where am i going with this story um just you're you're gonna tell me that you're now going to teach these people why to use spoken word. Why am I saying this? Oh, man.
Starting point is 01:10:47 I don't know where I was going. I'll tell you. You were trying to give advice and you're like, you know, really, honestly, I need to do all these things before I can give advice on it. Truly. I think I had something funny in mind, but I've definitely forgotten it. So I apologize. Maybe I'll just cut that part out. You know what?
Starting point is 01:11:04 No, no, i got it just okay oh this is where i was going with that we'll just listen to the to the through the chorus it's kind of long. Oh, it's great. That's good. Oh, okay. That was good. You got to get the whole experience. Okay.
Starting point is 01:11:31 No, the countdown is the best part. The countdown did get me hyped the first time I heard the countdown. Listen, if we are truly going to use this, we're using the whole minute log thing. We have a freaking 50 minute log podcast. We could use a great intro song. See, I'm more. Nope, nope, we could use a great intro song. See, I'm more, Nope,
Starting point is 01:11:47 nope, I don't, I'm more get right into something. Non-negotiable. People can, people can press, if we have exactly a minute, they can press the 30 second thing twice.
Starting point is 01:11:57 You're welcome. I really, I mean, I don't have a lot of experience podcasting. I really don't think people want to listen to an hour long intro song, or sorry, a minute long intro song. I think they do. I don't have a lot of experience podcasting. I really don't think people want to listen to an hour-long intro song. Or, sorry, a minute-long intro song. Listen, I think they do. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:12:09 It doesn't matter. We don't need to fight. Let's not. I'm sorry. Our first fight. Sorry you guys had to experience that. Maybe we should make it two minutes. And kind of split the difference.
Starting point is 01:12:18 Two minutes does not split the difference. I'm sorry. I don't think that's what I meant. This will be our longest pod episode yet. We've been going for a while. Have really uh minute 10 dang it that's twice in the last 30 seconds i've gotten my units of time wrong hour 10 minutes well then we better we better sign off yeah i actually have a lot to do today i gotta drive to omaha in like two hours and got a lot of other stuff we'll be there who oh audibles omaha i was really hoping the zoo was free turns out it's not you should
Starting point is 01:12:46 just walk around the whole time just yelling out omaha that would be really fun like by yourself omaha omaha on your feet omaha on your feet um all right that's episode 10 uh a good time we were actually we were not in the basement this time. We were in the upstairs. Yes. Had some natural light. It was fun. Beautiful Pinterest-y. Thank you all for listening. We'll be back next Monday with a new one. Brad, hit us with a jingle.
Starting point is 01:13:13 Please. Ghost, Ghost Runners. That is the Ghost Runners podcast. We have some potty breaks and a little bit of potty humor. Nice. That was awesome. Thanks, man.
