Well, Rachel and I are in the seats. Trey and Katie get courtside floor tickets. I mean, their chest is to the stage. So they're like, I mean, Shea is performing personally for Trey, so he's very close. There's a part of the show where they bring up this 13-year-old kid, and he's performing with them. He's done. They're

needing to stall. I don't think they normally do this. Shay is up there like, I'm just trying to stall. I'm trying to think of a good dad joke. What do you have to say, sir? He puts the microphone in Trey's face. Trey goes, Go Chiefs! What a dweeb.

And the crowd was just like, yeah! And it was, I mean, it's kind of a lose-lose situation. Just like, tell me a dad joke right now. But I don't know what else you say when a Grammy Award winning artist is like, what do you want to say?

Go Chiefs is honestly a genius answer. No one, no one's going to not cheer for that, you know? Yeah. It's so they did. It was, it was great,

but we love giving him a hard time afterwards. Like go chiefs. Like he wasn't expecting it. Like a frog in a store. No, geez. It's like, is that Pedro Mahone?

I think it's our sixth day. It's not like ours. We're like, it's like maybe one or two days off, and then it's like shows, shows. After we go back to Atlanta, which is next week, after that, it's straight through and one day off. So it's like 10 shows, one day off. Dang.

That's way more exhausting doing it that way. There's no routine sleeping on a bus two weeks straight. 100%. My back has been hurting since the first day we started. Because you remember, I got off of our last run before you guys recorded, moved out of my house, my old apartment, into my new apartment, spent maybe a day and a half in my new apartment,

and immediately flew to rehearsals. And I've been on tour ever since. I have not been back home. So what does it look like? Okay, let's back up. Back it up, brother. You're a DJ. You rap yourself?

No, I don't rap. I don't rap. I just do like, I'm a producer and stuff. Okay, okay. Jake thought you rapped. You rap? You have music of you rapping. No, I don't rap.

I have music with me on it. I'm like, think of it like the Rick Rubin of Christian hip hop, or like the DJ Khaled of Christian hip hop. Think about it like that. It's the same thing. That's exactly what I do. But you're on more tracks than DJ Khaled is. Yes, 100%.

But your voice is out there somewhere. Yes. Way more than it needs to be, but yes. Okay. Okay, so what do you do for kb on this tour yeah like what does it look like because i know with trey stuff you're you're djing before the show is that what you're doing for kb as well so no so um i'm on so kb i'm not djing specifically for kb i'm djing for my boy no big deal who is also in indie tribe which is the group that we're in so gunnar loves no big

bro we're yeah we're here tonight. So I DJ for No Big Deal, but this is, I think, because I think Jake and his wife are coming tonight, but this is the first time that they'll see me in this element. Because Jake and Isaac came to see me for Dude Perfect, and that's different than what I do for Trey. Yeah, Dude Perfect, Mikel's kind of running the show. He's kind of like the emcee.

Right. He does a lot more. Introducing the next. Yeah. Way more than Trey. Because Trey, I DJ for 30 minutes before people walk in and as they're walking in. And I introduce the comics and that's it. Okay.

Like, with Dude Perfect, I run the whole show. And by running, I don't mean like it's, I'm the reason. Like, no, I'm just saying like I play the music i announce the things yeah you keep it rolling yeah i'm i'm i never leave basically i'm always on stage and now with this is i'm just performing with my bro right so they've never seen me in that capacity of like ad-libbing yeah and like you know djing for real so i'm excited to like show them that element of like what i do because that's like what i mainly do that's what you get most excited about doing? Yeah.

I love it. I love it. Because it's a situation where I can fully be myself. Yeah. Like going crazy. Yeah. We talked about that backstage and we were at last week, Topeka or something.

I was like, dude, the way you fire me up, I want to go perform music. I want to jump around. You just get me so excited, and I just stand there for 30 minutes. It's so lame. Jake is a WWE wrestler. I mean, I treat it like that.

Whenever I announce, like, you and Lucas or whoever. Oh, it gets me so fired up. I'm like, I'm going to make them feel like they're about to walk down a ramp with a championship. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The last, like, few weeks, Mike Hell's been mixing up my intro. You know, because I always told you, like, dude, play whatever, say whatever. I don't care. But recently, Mike Hell's been doing, he's my know because I always told you he's like dude play whatever say whatever I don't care but recently Mike L's been doing he's uh he's my favorite

comedian he's your mother's favorite comedian he's been tossing it in there my favorite comedian and your mom's favorite or sometimes I'll switch up and say like yo like it's your sister's favorite comedian if I want to get disrespectful but I'm right so that's always fun but yeah I'm excited to see you like jumping around and everything tonight it should be fun man it'll be fun we missed you last weekend on tour for the special

because first of all we flew first class oh wow yeah the Craver flight first class okay no

I mean I get upgraded to first class I don't get bought first class yeah for sure it was like an hour long flight it was like the same price so it wasn't anything crazy

but yeah and also Trey and Alan had hour long flight. It was like the same price, so it wasn't anything crazy. Also, Trey and Alan had a Southwest flight, so it was me, Isaac, Lucas, and then DJ Travis. First class boys? Pinkies up. Legs crossed. Pinkies up. They got champagne before the flight.

Literally. You refer to him as DJ Travis. We call him DJ Mike. If you're a doctor, you're like, hey the flight. Literally. So you refer to him as DJ Travis. We call him DJ Mike. Is it like if you're a doctor, you're like, hey, Dr. Anderson. If you're a DJ, it's like, yo, DJ Mike. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, you just you've earned the initials. So I think they address me as Mike.

When they talk about me to other people, it's the preface of DJ Mike. All right. Well, I love I love hearing like origin stories. And you can do it however you want to do it. You can go back to the beginning of where you're born or your upbringing or whatever. Or just talk about like how you got your start even. Yeah. Or your connections to all these guys.

It sounds like you have been connected with some of the biggest Christian names in the industry. Which is wild, bro. Like the more, like when I go back, I'm going to go all the way back. But when I go back and I think about it, it really is God, because it doesn't make any sense. Legit. Once I explain it to you, you'll be like, wow, that actually, because, so I'm born and raised in New York City. I went to high school in Jersey.

When I graduated high school, I moved back to New York City, and I didn't go to college. I had a scholarship to go to Liberty to play football, and my grandmother passed away. She raised me. So it was like my mom passed away, basically. Yeah, right. And I was like, I'm good. I don't want to play football. Okay. And my grandmother passed away. She raised me. Okay. So it was like my mom passed away, basically. Yeah, right. And I was like, I'm good. I don't want to play football no more. I'm the – like, it's just –

Were you like just – I'm good. Yeah. I just don't want to do it. Did you want to do anything at that point? No. I wanted to die at that point. Really?

It hit me that hard. Depressing. Yeah. But, like, I ended up going to ministry school at a church, which was dope. And while I was there, the school that I was doing ministry at or learning how to be, because I was going to be a youth pastor, low key. Okay. And the church that did this program that had that school underneath was a studio.

And it was like a, it's not there no more, but it was called Y'all Rockin' Studios. It was a pinnacle Christian hip hop mecca of recording. And are you familiar with Andy Minio? Do you know who Andy Minio is? So Andy Minio recorded Neverland, the first one, in that studio. Wow. A lot of people would pass through, and I would intern, and there'd be a fly on the wall for a lot of things.

Yeah. And I would meet a lot of these artists, like Andy, Lecrae, all these people. And it would just be micro moments of meeting them and talking to them to them yeah and a majority of them lived in atlanta okay so they and i was like oh well uh i don't live there but like man like like let me get your number like let's just stay connected and i would just stay connected with people very genuinely just hey check in are you good whatever then my parents moved to atlanta a year before i did and i was like nah i'm good. But everything in me, like I felt like God was tugging me to go there and I was doing everything opposite to go.

Cause I'm like, cause when I, at the time I'm, I'm a, I'm a New Yorker. So I think Atlanta's country is heck. Like, you know what I'm saying? Don't tread on me flags. Yeah. Like I'm like, I don't want to go. But then I really felt God tugging my heart. Like,, like I think if you go, what's going to happen is going to blow your mind. I'm like, nah, I'm good. So I kind of wrestled with God a little bit. And then I had a situation that forced me to move with my parents down in Atlanta and hated it. But when I finally moved down there, all those connections that I made in that studio, I started hitting them up. Like, hey, I'm out here now.

I'd love to just kick it with you. And then just started getting like, hey, like'm out here now. I'd love to just kick it with you. And then just started getting, like, guys are like, hey, you DJ, right? You want to come? And then that turned into me doing it so much for this one artist named R-Swift that other people that trusted him were like, yo, I need a DJ. He's like, yo, try this person.

And then I knock out the park with that person. And then it just built up to where I'm at now, literally. Just get a network of guys. No, yeah, legit. Well, it's just being consistent, being genuine, then also like delivering each time right you know what i'm saying yeah doing a good job yeah like you're doing yeah doing like doing going above and beyond and i think the most thing is like just being a good hang and being genuine i think those things are right in in unfathomable bro well i can i think for sure like ever since jake's met you he's

had like not just like hopefully good things not just like decent things to say but just like this guy is so fun this guy is like he just makes the the vibe so much more fun everywhere he goes like i mean i think everyone on the podcast knows like the saying the dj michael saying is no that's crazy that's crazy and so when you're when jake just goes uh you know we were at the Ben Rector country, you're like, Ben Rector? Bro. You were like blown away. Right away.

It was like watching Arnold Palmer put the lemonade and the tea together. He's doing it. He's doing the thing. Bro. It just comes so naturally. Oh, I know. That's what we love about it man so

most recently and we were exchanging like Mike Hell stories oh man John told us a story that John I think came off stage they used it toman or something crazy. John just got done crushing. And everyone just commenting, John, that was amazing. That was great.

And Mike Hill's like, hey, good set, dude. Where do you feel like you lost him? Shout out to Aaron Webber, bro. Aaron Webber was the first one that did that. So, like, I think he did it to Dustin Nickerson. Oh, really? And it got such a pop, bro. I was like, I'm never going to not say that to comedians. Because it got such a pop bro I was like I'm never gonna not say that

to comedians cause it's like cause it's like whenever somebody's feeling like that like you just wanna humble them a little bit but also like

just give them a jab you know what I'm saying so it was like very much like he was like on a high bro it was like sold out cross-stating ovation

i'll accept that bro shout out to weber he's about to have a baby we're not about to but he just announced that he's crazy man baby weber yeah 24 25 something like that so yeah you've done comedy you've done like what what's it like being on the road with the comedian guys versus music like are there some similarities to their personalities? So this is going to sound like, I hope this doesn't come off weird, but it's like, so when I go on tour

with the rappers and my friends, it's like we all grew up the same. We use the same language. You know what I'm saying? It's like, oh, we're good. This is a safe space. Not that those spaces aren't. But then when I go on tour

with John and Trey and all them, it's like we all come from different backgrounds and it's like when you go to high school and there's like that like hood kid that's just cool with everybody that's what i feel like it's like it's like yo like i don't like i didn't experience like i didn't grow up like you but man i love you like you know i'm saying like so but it's just dope to be around different personalities and um i think that's what I tell you consistently. I love hanging out with you so much because I don't have friends like you back home. I don't have friends that talk like you.

That aren't white. Yeah. They don't look like that. They put on more sunscreen than you. Lack of melanin. I get it. Yeah, I'm always fascinated by, yeah, just like the way you

just even interact with people or blackjack dealers or uber drivers you know it's just uh i told the story on the podcast when it happened and we got a few questions about this um when uh when i said you're coming on the podcast but people wanted to know uh uh they want to know more about how to properly de-escalate a situation because i remember i told him the story about uh why you mad me oh yeah this way if you remember we were on our way to pedophilia in philadelphia and this guy he yells at trey for breaking the seat he yells at me for breaking but like legit like yelling like about to cancel the ride like he's pissed yeah for whatever reason right and then i get in the car.

So my thing is, one thing you, I think Jake has learned about me, but one thing I can say about myself is I'm a very loyal person. I'm very protective of people that I love and all my friends. And I'm very much like, think of me like the Draymond Green or the Dennis Rodman, every friend group that I'm in, quite literally. Or the Ray Lewis. I'm very much like that guy. Oh, Ray Lewis. I mean, yeah, he killed somebody.

I mean, Draymond gets technical fouls. I am like that. I definitely wouldn't kill anybody. I'm the OJ Simpson of any friend group. RIP, bro. You just passed away. Yeah, like an hour ago. Yeah, literally, man.

jake is like i feel like if jake was on a debate team in high school yeah like he would be like let me tell you all the logical things like you're telling me that this this and this are an issue and really look at the seat the seat is upright this is no legit you know and um so they're getting in the car and they're trying to fit because you know how you got to pull that handle and the seat yeah yeah flings forward and folds down and you got to get back so we're trying to do that whole thing and i guess that's not how you do it and it's broken and the and the the uh uber driver is like no you break my car what are you doing like he's getting very upset yeah yeah and then he's just like and trace like hey man like what do you what are you like you tell me he's like oh like he's just getting so mad and i'm just

like i'm already slightly annoyed because i'm in philly i'm just like all right bro so like so they finally get in like and he's like yelling at them as i'm getting into the car and i was like yo my man i'm like i need you to tone yourself down and talk to me like i'm an adult he's like no no i'm like see i'm not gonna talk to you until and talk to me like I'm an adult. He's like, no, no, no. I'm like, see, I'm not going to talk to you until you speak to me like I need to be spoken to. And he was like, no, my friend. Dude, speaking of getting thrown off, so I haven't told the podcast about the special or anything yet. I wanted to talk about it when you were here. So, you know, this is a massive production. I mean, there's cable cams. It looks like, I texted a picture to Brad. He said they got the Monday Night Football crew out there. They have Video Village. So, I mean, there's all these monitors. Everybody's on headsets. People are running around.

Booth reviews getting done. Gene Steratore is in New York. He's looking at it. Dude, that's like my dream to just like be in that like, just have a headset on. Yeah, that'd be awesome. It was really impressive, it's it's a stressful environment but i'm up there lucas then me and i am 30 seconds away from getting off stage it's a great set i'm really happy with it i'm doing my my joke about rachel's ringside you know my closing joke and i'm seriously 30 seconds away i'm about to close it and then a guy from the crew just walks on stage.

And I see him, and he keeps walking, and he keeps walking. And then he kneels in front of me and just pulls out like a thing of tape and just starts taping something down. And we're all just staring at him. Quietly? I would imagine quietly. Please let it be quietly. Yeah, well, it was quiet for a little bit because it's like,

this isn't happening. It's like an outer body experience. Yeah, I saw it was quiet for a little bit because it's like, this isn't happening. It's like an outer body experience. Yeah, I saw myself by POV. And I don't remember exactly what I said because it was truly such a like, this can't be happening. I remember saying, all righty. And then I remember saying, because I was doing jokes about my dad and everything. I was like, this is my idiot dad. So I might keep that in the special.

I might just keep that in because that's pretty funny. But it was like, you couldn't. He was like, yeah, there was a wire. I talked to Matt for it. There was a wire. It was like in the shot. I was like, well, there's about to be a very natural gap. Trey's about to come on.

Just do it then. Yeah, there's going to be a man in the shot now. Yeah, and I know Trey's going to pay for it. It's his special. Right. But I was like, you really should not interrupt the comedian probably during the closing joke. That's super whack, bro. He's like, what goes through your mind at that point?

You're like, yo, you're like, well, you have like a 25, 20-minute set, 30-minute set. Yeah, yeah. And it's like, yo, 27 minutes in. You're like, yo, you know what? That wire's killing me, man. I gotta, I gotta, you know what? Let me, I gotta do it. Sorry, man.

Yeah, that's a great point because it's like the other 27 minutes the wire's going to be there. And Lucas has already... I mean, they had a long time to see this wire. I'm saying. Yeah.

It's a big stage. They all conspired against you. Yeah. He's going to bring the house down with this one. Let's humble him. He's going to outshine Trey. We got to interrupt him.

So where do you think we lost him? Probably with the wire. On this one, you know? Thanks, Dad. What if we had done a joke like, wow, guys, my dad finally showed up to one of my shows wow probably get some support he won't even look at me oh my gosh but all things considered not the biggest deal going on that night so man so you know it's like that's kind of me a bummer but look i'm not i didn't pay for it this night is not about me i'm personally bummed but I don't, yeah, it's really okay.

We got tomorrow night. We'll be fine. So we're gearing up. This is, it's stressful, but Trey's about to go out there. And, you know, we're like, hey, Travis, get them on their feet. Like, we need to get them so hyped. Let them know we're taping the special. Where is this going?

He's doing quite the intro. Like, filming his second comedy special, Salt Lake City. Get on your feet. You know, whatever. Going crazy. Trey Kennedy. intro like film it a second comedy special salt lake city get on your feet you know whatever going crazy trey kennedy he comes out there and they're they're going nuts the biggest intro ever trey's mic doesn't work oh wow i know he was pissed oh yeah you can imagine i know he was pissed bro it doesn't work because when that happens on like regular show days he's like what happened yeah i'm just like i like whatever that happens with like our like our regular show days he looks at me and i'm like i am not the sound guy i don't control your mic like

you made the music that's sound yeah yeah you're that's i know he was pissed like like what did he do he just stormed back and was like again stormed back and was very um reasonably upset i would say especially my special i'm paying yeah how much money he paid time is mike doesn't work and so now they got to redo all this and so he's very upset and the crowd too you know the crowd it's like weird it's like yeah you're not gonna give him let's do it again guys it's like alright I'm doing squats now I can't hear you I said do it again it's like WWE

yeah maybe that was maybe maybe what was that wire you can imagine Lucas as like the purest comedian

he's like I mean I can't I should have had a wired mic you know that's how the old school guys the old school guys do the wired mics

he's like I just had a wired mic should have had a wired mic probably oh my gosh. So he goes back out there. The second mic works. It's great.

He starts a set. So Trey had asked Lucas and I beforehand, hey, would you guys mind watching my whole set and take notes? If I didn't get anything like word perfect or if I stumbled over anything, we just jot it down to make sure we get it either that night or on the second night. I know Lucas would do it because Lucas is very like attention to detail. Yeah, yeah. So we sit down there.

You don't think Jake would do it? Yeah. No, no, no. Oh, go ahead. Oh, that was a good job for Lucas. Well, you know, Lucas has the presentation of someone that would be very astute with notes. You know what I'm saying?

You want to know who took the notes? Jake took the notes. Jake took the notes. That guy. So we're sitting there. We're paying so much attention. Well, right away, it's a very stressful environment. There's people.

I don't know what they're doing, but people are just running. People are running backstage. A lot of running going on. People on headsets yelling at each other. And they're all like, they're asking me and Katie. Katie flies in. They're like, hey, come look at this. How much does he normally sweat?

I'm like, how much Trey normally? hey, my in-ears, I got nothing in my in-ears. The metronome's not working. I have no monitors. Now we got to fix that. So now it becomes a new situation. How do we interrupt the show for a third time to fix Alan's in-ear monitors?

So then we got to figure that out. Should we call Trey off stage? Travis, should you go back on? Should you play music? I don't know. I'm not even there and I'm pissed. Yeah, it Should we call Trey offstage? Should we, Travis, should you go back on? Should you play music? I don't know. I'm not even there and I'm pissed. Yeah, it was like, Trey's up there performing. Everyone's laughing.

But backstage, we're all so stressed, dude. And I know Trey was probably still furious. So we're having to make those decisions. And so in the end, the show is over. We're out hanging out afterwards. And Trey gets like dozens of DMs from people being like, hey, I sat in the back tonight. Couldn't hear a thing.

And Trey's like, oh my gosh. People can't hear? Yeah, I'd be pissed because then now I look at it as a business decision. He's coming out of pocket as an investment to film his own thing. And it's like, I'm paying you all this money and y'all can't get just simple stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it was insane how much went wrong that first night and how stressful it was. Okay, so as far as your experience

and then just in general, how much of that is, do you think, because of the film crew and how much of that is the venue? It's definitely the film crew. Really? 100%, not the venue's fault. Whoever is running the sound and video is their fault.

That should be something that is done. But I think whenever people are running around like headless chickens, they overlook things. Things that happen like that, I couldn't hear you in the back, those things get left up to assumption. Oh, I thought somebody – and it's like, bro, when that kind of money is being put on the table,

you can't leave things to assumption. You got to double check, triple check, make sure everything is good. Apparently the people not hearing in the back is the production crew didn't want Trey's levels too loud so they could capture good audio. But now people just can't hear it. Yeah, so Trey was like, well, I would like the people at the show to get their money's worth. And they would laugh probably harder if they knew the jokes. It's probably a good thing. And they're filming Bill Burr's special?

production or the fans and then you got to balance that and then it's like also the production company as as good as their heart is they don't care about your fans the way you do right right they just care about making sure that they get done what they got to get done right and maybe not even enough because they didn't hear in the back so dang yeah that's wild so second night was all right though second night was so much less stressful good it was great no people still no ladders no ladders no sprinting yeah it just like the mics worked. Everything went off without a hitch.

I feel like I could see Tom's face and my burn singed in my mind of that first day. Tom was really like hurt, like really felt like he had let Trey down. It felt really bad that first night. It was cool how much he cares. Well, he does care because I remember we were talking,

but I rarely work on the road. I work at home. I have a studio in my house, thank God. inspiration and i'm forcing and then you got stuff to come out something comes out you know you're inspired at 7 30 but you're like well yeah well it's not 4 p.m i'm out i can't do it i'm compartmentalizing this too much yeah but but like sometimes inspiration will hit random times i'll just get on my iPhone and voice memos something or write it down. Because I really will have Jimmy Neutron brain blasts at random moments. And I'll be like, oh, what?

This is dope. And just all my ideas on my phone and just have it there and just come back to it when I have time to sit down and actually. And is that just like melody stuff? That's what I was going to ask. Or like lyrics maybe? So I'm not a, I don't write music or do melodies a lot unless i'm physically with the artist i was gonna ask how much is you from scratch like so yeah so music wise so music wise sonically what i do is

like i'll sit down with the producer and i'll be like hey this is what's in my head this is what i'm hearing and i'll do the melodies like that i'll i'll have stuff recorded not all the time and then we'll be like we'll try to execute it and make it happen most of the time when I get brain blast I'm a big like like

art direction and like just promo kind of guy I love doing like promo stuff art direction creative direction

like thinking of ideas on how to like elevate things I'm big on that I love doing that kind of stuff I'm just like oh this is great let's do this let's do this we were talking like last week and you said

We had a little social media class. So I'm going to start doing like with the fans probably in Texas, because we have like a lot of fans in Texas. camera or whatever and use it as a regular camera and like have my AirPod Max Pros and be like, hey, I'm going to let you listen to this song. Tell me what you think. And I get the live reaction on social media. I think that would be super fire. But I love just seeing how people react to music because it's just like, yeah, it's just super. How do you choose which single comes out first? For me, it's a feeling.

Selfishly, it's like if I like it, I'm like, this is me, though. People are different. For me, I'm like if I like it and it brings emotion out of me, I'm like, we're dropping it. Start with that one. Yes. Or like you kind of know how to gauge your own audience. It's like, ah, bro, they're going to like it. At the same time though, like with music, some people are really affected by their audience.

And they make decisions based off of that. And in a way i'm like i affect my audience because like this is gonna sound crazy but i don't mean it in the way it's gonna come out but like they're a fan of me i'm not a fan of them so they listen they listen to what i put out so if i if i subject myself to what they think yeah then i'm creating what they want and i want that's an interesting thought you know i'm saying so i want to create what i want to create and if you like it, yo, thank you. If you don't like it, maybe there's a next time.
