Starting point is 00:00:00 Three, two, one, it's time. Okay. Here's what I want to start with, Jake. I don't know what's going on, but I can, I'm going to try to count real quick. I'm going to guess if I tried to count real quick, I would count 12 flies on my window right now. What do you think that's about? Are they inside the pain? Are they alive?
Starting point is 00:00:18 Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah. They're all moving about right out, right around the pain. And I'm, let me count. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, at least ten. that I'm seeing, trying to, trying to, and they look, they don't look disgusting, but they don't look fun. You know what I mean? So they like, they came in your workshop at some point and now you've trapped them in there and they're just, they want the light. And I just got here. I just got
Starting point is 00:00:44 back. This is my first time in the shop and however many nine days or whatever. So I don't know if, if something's festering around or what's going on. Yeah, what they've been up to. I don't know. I've watched, I've watched an episode and a half of Chernobyl on some recent flights. Okay. Maybe radiation could be involved. I don't know. It's just kind of top of mind for me right now. You know what I just thought of? I hope it's not this, but there is a dead mouse still in our dump in our trash can in here. So maybe just maybe they like that. That could be a reason that they would have entered in there. Oh, yeah. Maybe dead rodent is a pretty attractive thing to these flies. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:24 I mean, they're just like hanging out right here by like the, they're, I don't know. No, it's like there's something in the window, unless there's something behind the wall or something. I don't know. Now, I got bad news. You would, you would just talk before we started recording that you would fix your internet, but it's already, there's a, there's a delay. Here's my face for that. Now we're bad. What'd you do, though?
Starting point is 00:01:46 What happened? I, I calmed down. I stopped worrying about the flies so much. So it is, it is delayed, though. Kind of? Yeah, for me, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's going in and out, but I'm focusing. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:02:03 What did I do? That little hub thing that I talked about last week, it was the reason, it was interfering. Yeah, the hub was doing things. It was a hubbub. I was doing speed test earlier, and I sped tested, and it was like 0.7, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:21 megabytes per second upload speed. And then I unplugged it, and it was like 150. Oh, wow. So I don't know. I don't know what's going on with it. Chachibit saves the day again. But yeah, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:02:34 I hope it's not too, too slow or too delayed or whatever, guys. I'll be fine. We built for this. Let's talk really slow and just wait a long time in between reacting to things. That's how we, that's how we built this brand. Yeah. Uh, uh, oh, oh, I, oh, I think. This tight beat means that it's going down
Starting point is 00:03:04 With some random thoughts in white Me too Then West Best Friends Eating fast food on repeat So come along Let's have some fun and go ahead Get on your feet Because this is a ghost
Starting point is 00:03:13 Rupp's podcast Everybody's morning You're taking around Hey welcome back Ghosties, happy Monday Jake, what's going on? What's new, buddy? I feel like I've lived a lifetime
Starting point is 00:03:35 since I've last seen you So much has happened. You've traveled, we've traveled The Fourth of July happened and we're recording this Sunday afternoon and posting it in about 10 hours from now. This is going to be up to date. Yes, this is very,
Starting point is 00:03:50 this is exactly what we look like, like pretty much the exact same as what we're going to look like when you guys are listening to this. When this goes live. Yes. Yeah, what do you want to talk about? How was your 4th of July?
Starting point is 00:04:00 How was Colorado? Dude, I'm, I, it was a week of highlights. Just a highlight reel of sorts for me. I loved Fourth of July at my sister's house. Let's start there. We went to small town Kansas, southwest Kansas. And I don't know, did I tell you last week that like my brother-in-law is kind of known for like he's like the fireworks guy in town.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Yeah, he lets him let him rip. Yeah. And I don't know enough about it, but I mean thousands of dollars worth of fireworks. I don't know how much. I didn't ask. I didn't think that was appropriate to ask. but I was like there is a lot of money in this garage right now. And it was just so fun, dude.
Starting point is 00:04:44 We got there Friday night. Saturday, you know, was obviously 4th of July. So Friday night, though, I mean, he had so many, like, we'll call him kids fireworks that we shot off.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I mean, we shot off stuff for two hours on Friday night, like when we got there, Roman candles and, you know, all the little things like the, like, not sparklers,
Starting point is 00:05:03 but stuff like that. And that was really fun. Because I don't think my kids had really, done much like that before. Yeah, those are fun. Yeah, it was awesome. And once again, it was just like, it was just one of those times where it was like, you can't do, I mean, you can do this in a city, but like, it was like a such a unique
Starting point is 00:05:20 opportunity because we were in the small town. You know what I mean? Yeah. There's no rules there. There's no rules that, yeah. And, and like, well, there were times like that I did have the thought on Saturday for the July that I was like, what? if these neighbors do not like this they're going they really hate us right now because we are just
Starting point is 00:05:42 going absolutely bananas here um but no the whole thing was awesome i mean like per capita i can't imagine how many more fireworks a small town shoots off than you know uh like people that live in the city because it was unbelievable like there's it's a town of i don't know 1300 people i could be wrong on that it's definitely less than 2 000 people and it was like there were multiple professional fireworks like shooting off throughout the entire like from like eight to midnight the whole time was just wild um my said interesting like it would be funny to like do a deep dive on the analytics of small town fireworks just spend way too much time and effort just calculating like yeah we only have one stoplight but there are five fireworks shows there are five fineries here tonight truly it was it was
Starting point is 00:06:30 unbelievable so like so that was really cool and my brother-in-law told me this and i kind of was like are you just saying that because he's not he's not full of himself but at the same time i'm like maybe you're imagining this because you love the fireworks show so much but he was like when i do my fireworks basically he's like the rest of the town kind of stopped shooting off fireworks and everyone kind of watch like he's like i think it seems like everyone else stops and then when i'm done it'll it'll like people will start shooting off again and it was a hundred percent true it was like really i mean he it was like he he like fashioned up all these fireworks. So it was like a grand finale every time he lit them off like because they were just like
Starting point is 00:07:09 a bunch of fuses together. But when he was done, all of a sudden it was like the city came alive with fire. And it was awesome. Like it was like everyone was watching his and then afterwards it was just yeah, just pandemonium until almost midnight. I mean, it was just like constant. And luckily our kids are all really into it. Like I think when had he was younger, she was terrified. Even like, Like, I think the, was it last year or two years ago that we went to the Bex? I think it was two years ago. Yeah. And Hattie and I had to like drive home.
Starting point is 00:07:43 And like I like tried to like get her to fall asleep before everyone shot off fireworks. But Rosie, her personality is a firework. And so she was loving it all. Like everyone loved it. It was awesome. Just small town. Small town for the wind, dude. So you can just fireworks and drill, I love fireworks.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Especially when they're being shot off close to you. You know, it's just like your neighbors are going. it's louder, it's, it's, it's closer. You don't have to wonder who they voted for, you know, I love a good neighborhood fire, you know, just close up fireworks show. Yeah, yeah, exactly. You don't have to worry like, hey, do I need to wear a mask? Like, no, no, no, just give me the punk. No, they shot some off on like July 6th. So no, you're fine. January 6th. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, it was, it was a blast. Here's something, you're from small town. I want to know if you resonate with this or if this is,
Starting point is 00:08:34 is a small town Kansas thing. Because Catherine was like, that's not how it would have been exactly in Texas. And I'm like, I don't know, because I don't consider Catherine from a small town. I consider her from the country, but I think she grew up in a somewhat substantial city.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Like I think Sherman is like 30,000 or something like that. So I think she's got some ground to talk about, but not exactly. So my sister and brother-in-law, I mean, they probably invited 100 people over their house for like this big potluck thing. like they cooked the pulled pork but then you could just bring a side or dessert and like their whole
Starting point is 00:09:09 garage was open all these great food all this great food and stuff but i get outside like you know all these people are coming over and i come outside and like go out of their driveway and like turn the corner to their side yard thinking like okay maybe like 15 people are here i turned the corner and there's like 75 people just like sitting in chairs on this side yard and it was about the volume of 15 people. Like I felt like and I and I and I and Catherine like Catherine I both noticed like as we were eating like it was kind of like not not like boring but like subdued like quieter. And in my experience that's kind of that's kind of a small town Kansas thing. And and like Catherine's like no in Texas people would be much louder and and eventually it got lively. Eventually we were playing games and all this stuff. But like when we were first there it wasn't like this chaotic crazy. It was like. people are just kind of sitting and enjoying themselves quietly. That is interesting. Yeah, we need more small town analytics.
Starting point is 00:10:10 Like the decibels emitted per person, you know, at a party. It's like, it's like one third of what a city person would emit probably. Yeah. Do you feel like growing up, like when you went somewhere in, I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, what? Yeah, tell me more. I'm trying to like put myself at a scenario where I would have been around a bunch of us
Starting point is 00:10:29 and like noticed our, our volume. Right. I have no idea. I don't know. I would say like small town Kansas feels like it would be quietest. That feels like some of the quieter people you would come about. Yeah, because you went to church in Springfield, right? Yeah, we bounced around a little bit, but yeah, we would see our fireworks in Springfield. Okay. I'm just trying to think of like, yeah, somewhere where you go, like some of your group settings probably in Stratford were like, you know, football, you know, stuff or, you know, baseball banquet or something. And it was like, okay, you guys were probably crazier then, but like, what are the parents to do it? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Maybe. But, but like, yeah, just in my experience, like, every time I go home with one of my K-State buddies, it was always like, not like awkward, but just like people are very content, like, not saying anything if they don't have something to say. You know what I mean? Whereas in the city, it's like, we're talking fast and we're like, I don't know. You can just tell a little bit of a difference. Were they Baptist? Do you know a denomination?
Starting point is 00:11:29 They were all over, man. Well, German Mennonite, we had some GMs there, dude. I mean, you never know. Dude, this is really interesting. My sister's hometown, or, you know, they live in Sublette, Kansas, and there are a lot of immigrants, we'll call them, yeah, immigrants from Mexico. So they're Mexican, but I think they're German, Mennonite, Mexican. And so they're like super white, but they're, they speak Spanish and they probably have a Mexican accent to an extent, but they've come here from Mexico. What do they speak?
Starting point is 00:12:02 Speak Spanish. I mean, in English, I'm sure. But like, can you, can you imagine this? Like, you see like, like, you're, you're seeing like this, like, you know, very conservative looking, you know, Minnanite person. But then all of a sudden they're like, eh, is a, quanto quest. I don't know. It is confusing.
Starting point is 00:12:22 It's kind of hard to imagine. Right. It's kind of like when you see a black person that have like a British accent, it's like that, I don't know about that. I don't know. They're supposed to do that. I don't know. You know, like, and maybe, to be fair,
Starting point is 00:12:36 I've never actually seen or heard these people talk, but that's just what I imagined them sounding like. But like, you know, reminds me who grew up like a white person in India or something. I don't know. That's hilarious to me. It took on the accent. This reminds me, I met a guy in Malaysia
Starting point is 00:12:51 who had come up to one of our events from Australia. And so he's kind of telling me about his life and whatever. And anyway, my main takeaway is he called himself. he goes yeah you know kind of with my thing because he was like very Asian looking but he is Australian he goes yeah they call us bananas I was like oh really it's like yellow on the outside white on the inside yes I was like I kind of remember okay yeah okay am I allowed yeah do I do I have permission see signor C German Mennonite uh German Mennonites GMs I don't know I don't know much about them but they I play
Starting point is 00:13:29 played some spike ball taught some people out to play spike ball that was fun um whooped them no problem um but no it was a great time uh the kids had a blast watching bow and haddy they got like the kids there was probably like 20 kids playing this huge game of kickball and the you know bow and haddy's got in there and was screaming and yelling and having fun with them so it was a lot of fun that's great i feel i spent most of my fourth of july uh in the pool it was awesome that's a good play to spend it. Great way to do it. Yeah. Coops came down, triplets came down. And I think by the time, what did I do? I had done something that first afternoon. And by the time I even got back to the house, all the guys were already in the pool. I mean, immediately, like Tim was down here and he was in
Starting point is 00:14:16 the pool. And then I think the first day here, like a Thursday, Steve Cooper had been in the pool like three times already. Really liked it to the point where I remember the first night. He had gotten back in again for the third time. It's about 10 p.m. And so I don't know, he just goes and jumps in the pool. So we all go out to the back yard just to kind of like, I guess watch him swim. You know, I was like, well, let's just see what he's up to. And because our pool has like a gate, you know, like it came with like a, not privacy, but like safety, children's safety gate or whatever. Rachel made the point that it felt like we were all at the zoo. Steve was the zoo animal.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Yeah, we were outside of the gate just kind of peering. and in and then every now and then he gets splashing we go oh he's moving he's moving look at this i love it when he moves this is what you come for this is great don't don't feed him out of your hand i want to i want to feed him something do you have a quarter want to get some of it yeah that was great that was an early inside you guys were all the outside of the fizz just watching them yeah yeah i mean all eight of us i guess i don't understand how yeah how this works like in my head there's there's there's enough room for you to sit inside the fence but maybe not yeah i don't think it would have been weird for like most of us to sit around the pool or to like put our legs in the pool but no
Starting point is 00:15:36 we all stay on the other side um which granted there is some like outdoor furniture so we were like seated around this like table just watching steve just kind of splash away in the zoo exhibit it was great yeah is this this is the first time you've had a pool at your house correct yeah it's awesome I'm so curious, like, what my tendencies and habits would be if I had a pool because you know me. Love. Love. Yeah. Like, I genuinely think I could spend the majority of my day inside the, like, in the water. And I wonder if I'm very hard not to consider, like, contemplate.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Like, should I shower and go, I was at a pool? That was a slippery slope. So I'm trying to build good habits there. Is it, though? Like, like, that is it? Who's telling you it's a slippery slope? Big soap. Big soap is trying to tell me that.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Big old spice, nice tribe of. Big speed stick. Yeah, dude. I mean, I'm sure obviously the chemicals, yeah, they're going to wear on you eventually. But like, how long is it take, you know? Yeah. How many can I get? Yeah, I would like, like I would borderline hack my life into like how much time can I spend in the pool.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Like I would do work. I'd figure out how to, like I would make calls in the pool. I would do it all. I think someone, we were just in Michigan the last few days for some pickleball stuff. And someone would come up to me and Scott and asked me how Phoenix was. And, you know, I'm telling him, oh, it's great, you know, whatever. I have a pool for the first time. And he kind of jokingly goes a pool.
Starting point is 00:17:18 And so then I, I don't know how it got started. but basically I just like tried to play so dumb like he was an idiot like okay I'm trying to think pool how would I describe it to you it's like a it's like a laker pot or it's not like a laker pond but it's not like a bathtub either and um gosh you just have to see it the pictures don't even do justice it's weird it's like a imagine like a personalized ocean yeah yeah my backyard ocean but that's salty and so you probably think it's all it's not like it's not salty it's like imagine like a massive cup imagine you are are like one of those army soldiers and you dunk yourself in a cup but then make that bigger. Imagine that. Okay. I'm trying to think. Have you seen Free Willy, the movie Free Willy? Seen free willy?
Starting point is 00:18:04 So yeah, it was green once and then like flew the next day. So there's stuff in it. Yeah. Imagine, let's see. Imagine like a yard. But like with big hole, no grass. Okay. I know it's crazy, no grass.
Starting point is 00:18:23 And then just, and it rains, like, do you, okay, okay, sorry, back up. Have you heard about Noah's Ark? Okay. Not the whole, the whole lawn's not flooded, but that one area is super flooded. Yeah, that area is. And kind of our olive branch is the water feature. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:44 You have to just see it to believe it. You just have to come over, probably. Come over. Kind of revolutionary. Yeah. How, how cold are, are we talking for the water? water. Like, do they have some kind of cooler on there? Is it like getting warm? There is like an air rater, which just like is this little sprinkle that's supposed to like cool off the pool. And
Starting point is 00:19:00 even when you look at it, you go, I don't, I doubt that works. And I don't think it does to like cool the pool that well. But I've been surprised how not hot the pool is. Yeah. It's a pretty good temperature. It's pretty refreshing. It's great. Good. That's awesome. Yeah. Rachel like, uh, bought on Amazon just like last minute bought like a $30 inflatable volleyball net and ball. And we didn't busted out the first two days. It's something about the fourth of July. We busted it out. And once it was out, it never left. We couldn't stop playing pool volleyball. Enough to where I'm like texting Isaac, Nathan, Kyle, like, you guys got to get over here. You would not believe how much fun pool volleyball is. You got a good testimonial from Kyle too. He goes, when you text it, I was like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:19:45 I mean, yeah, that's something to do. But I had no idea how much fun to pull volleyball. yeah okay tell me about telling me more is it like were you guys going easy was it like hey no spikes was it like hey because it's not a real olive ball it's like borderline a balloon you're playing with you know so you have time to kind of swim over and get everything and kind of beach older like somewhat of a shallower and deeper end so it's like all right we got to switch it we know switch it 13 because deep my poor mom i mean you can basically see like her hair in her hands she's trying her best Yeah. Okay. And yeah, one side, which is a classic kind of backyard game where none of it's like fair. Like, you know, one side is like a foot and a half deeper. It's also, but it also has way more ground to cover.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Like the pool is not a perfect rectangle, you know, so it's just like just guys being dudes trying to figure out this strategy for pool volleyball and just did that for four and five hours. It was great. Gosh, that's awesome. There was some kids at this pool that we were at in Colorado. And they were like playing some game. I didn't even know. rules because it wasn't like a rule game like it was but they were like one guy one kid was like chucking it basically looked like one guy was the goalie one guy was trying to score on him and he was just chucking it against this wall like trying to get it past this kid and i didn't understand the rules but i just told katherine i was like that's my dream for me and both someday i don't even know what it is but that's all i want to do is whatever those kids are like you can't tell
Starting point is 00:21:08 they made up a really simple game but sounds like it would be a blast you know what i mean and some of those best games are ones where like someone's like hey that's fun can i play and you're like, this would take forever to tell you the rules. This took us months of iterating to even get where we are today. Yes, dude. I love it. I love one of my favorite things about pool games is like when you dive down underwater and then you just come up with a vengeance hoping to see that ball again.
Starting point is 00:21:35 You have to dive to like smack it over and you're like, I know, like, hopefully the ball is still going. Yeah, you're like your eyes burn a little bit when you come up because you're not supposed to, you know, like usually you have your eyes closed or you come up. You're like, nope, I got to have them up. Oh, we had fun. It's great. There was one point where everyone was kind of taking turds,
Starting point is 00:21:52 trying to just one v1, who could have the most, like the longest rally. Like, you know, one, two, three over and over. And then iterated on that, every 50 you get, my dad is allowed to jump in the pool to distract you. You know, and that could be a dive and he swims in between your legs or, you know, it could be just like a big splash. And then hearing the nickname the whale for the size of some of the splashes. And then after, you know, like,
Starting point is 00:22:16 a day full of whale comments. He's like, I think that's good on the whale on the whale talk. I think that's fine. I'm not even in the pool anymore. Call me Steve again if you want. Yeah, please. Yeah, that's great. Yeah, how's old Steve doing? Great. Oh, Steve. Yeah. Yeah. Everybody's great. Yeah, the zoo animal and the non-zoo animal. Yeah, they love our house. They love our neighborhood. And yeah, so we had a great force. My, my dad's only complaint was that the pool was not filled with Main Street Roasters. I wasn't clear on that. Well, because he knows that we're presented by Main Street Roasters and therefore, you know, he would love. Yeah, every single morning, he's like, I got to drink it out of this thing behind Jake instead.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Yeah. That's a big thing, actually. That's nice. He keeps calling this like a miniature pool. Like he does even really, everything is a pool to him. So he's like, hey, which, which cabinet is your little pools in? You know, I want some coffee. Some, some K, K pools.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Yes, we are. We're presented by Main Street Roasters. We're brought to you by Main Street Roasters. We're sponsored by Main Street Roasters. We're going to talk about. about mainstream roasters now. I did go to Colorado, but we didn't make sure to bring
Starting point is 00:23:21 our mainstream roosters with us. A, because it's way cheaper and more convenient because you don't want to have to drive 10 minutes every single day to go get coffee. And B, because it's just wonderfully,
Starting point is 00:23:33 amazingly good. Like, it's not like we're like, oh, I guess we could like drink our coffee here, but, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:40 I'd rather go here and get like fancy. No, this is the fancy stuff. This is the good stuff. It's just really high quality and it's made by go. ghosties and you guys need to check them out. We are presented by the good stuff.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Yeah. Rachel is right. Hey, there she gets it. Um, so if you want the good stuff, the convenient stuff and the ghosty stuff, go to mace roosters.com backslash home.
Starting point is 00:24:05 And I'll take you to the home page. Back and like, yeah, figure out your own backslash. Yeah. Try out a few backslash buttons. Hi, Rachel. Uh,
Starting point is 00:24:15 yes, all the thing. and yeah, use our promo code. GRKC is 10% off. It's just the best, the best coffee you can ever imagine, delivered right to your door, unless you want to go there in Indiana,
Starting point is 00:24:28 but they will deliver it to you. So, it will deliver it to your backslash home. The beans, baby. Get the beans. Get the beans. Love it, dude. We haven't done a,
Starting point is 00:24:40 we'll call them in, in, in step at. In live stream. Yeah, we haven't done it was a minute. That's fun. Nice. It's free flowing. Just flowing and going, baby.
Starting point is 00:24:55 All right. I thought about like, man, how do I, maybe I should wait and say this at the end. I don't know. Like, burying the lead, I guess, or like going chronological order, but I just can't because it was just too funny and too, whatever. I went, my win of the week, which is a Wednesday thing. But like, whatever, the whole, it's just too fun. we ended up staying one more day in Colorado.
Starting point is 00:25:16 We were having so much fun that we're like, let's just see if we can extend this thing. Let's see if the Airbnb has anybody, you know, the next day. And luckily they didn't. So we stayed one last day or one more day. And we went with Catherine's family, like Catherine's sister and brother-in-law and their family. We met them.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Is this after the 4th of July? You go from rural Kansas. You go to Colorado to meet up with Catherine's family. Correct. Yeah, with her sister. And they have three kids. So a blast of a time. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:25:45 Like every day was like just fun after fun. But the highlight I'm going to tell is like the one after they leave. So whatever. But we went on all these hikes. Every single day we went on hikes. And they were all pretty like kind of unintentionally strenuous hikes. You know, we're going with like literally I have a son who is not a great walker yet. And we're like, hey, let's just a three mile hike.
Starting point is 00:26:09 You know. And so I mean, multiple days in a row. I was basically rucking with Henry, like on my shoulder. Just like, yeah, just carrying him. At one point, I think one hike, I think I put every single kid on my shoulder at different times with a hike. Just because they were getting tight, whatever. But there was this cool sounding hike, but it sounded kind of hard. And so I waited until Catherine's sister's family left.
Starting point is 00:26:34 What does a hard sounding hike sound like? I was reading Google reviews. And it was like, it's a two and a half mile, you know. Oh, okay. not just like the name of the trail sounded hard. That's what I thought you meant. It was like Dante's revenge. Along this trail, yeah, there was like a like a subsection,
Starting point is 00:26:51 like a little path to the left. It said bloody knuckles. And I was like, don't go. We're not going there. We're not doing that. Don't even look at it. But I was like, but Bo really wanted this baseball that said Colorado on it. And he had already gotten a souvenir like earlier.
Starting point is 00:27:07 But it's kind of a long story. Anyway, so he won this baseball. I was like, Bo, what if we did this kind of hard hike? And if you did it, then we can get this baseball. Okay. Yeah, he's so into it. And I didn't know. I had read varying degrees of how hard it was, but at least we know it's going to be a long hike.
Starting point is 00:27:26 And but the cool thing about the thing that it sounds so cool was that it has this old mine at the top, like a gold mine, like, you know, like whatever from the 18. Colorado, Colorado School of Mines. Correct. Exactly. And so we get there. I'm excited or whatever. And long story short, I mean,
Starting point is 00:27:45 and it was just me doing bad research. It was like me choosing the Ocano Lodge or something. Like I just didn't, didn't do enough research on this. I get, we get to the parking lot and I'm like, I think this is the trail here. And,
Starting point is 00:27:56 but the trail that I was supposed to be going on with something called the Sally Barber Mine. And instead I see this, but I had heard at the top like, yeah, there's all these rocks with like gold flex in them. And so I was like, that sounds cool.
Starting point is 00:28:08 And so I see this, I see this trail that's marked yellow brick road. And I thought, oh, maybe the Sally Barber mine is on yellow brick road. That sounds like the rocks. Gold plaid. I mean, we start walking up this yellow brick road trail. And I was like, instantly, I was like, this isn't it? I don't think this is it.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Because it's so steep or what? Because it was like, it was, it was, from what I was reading, it was like, this doesn't even seem like a trail. I mean, it's trail, but it's like. It's a tight trail. You know, like this doesn't seem like a family friendly, you know, kind of hike.
Starting point is 00:28:43 And yeah, it was steep and whatever. And I mean, Bo, it felt like I was, uh, Carl and up and Bo was the kid. What's his name?
Starting point is 00:28:54 I don't remember his name. Russell. He felt like he was Russell. Like he just wouldn't stop talking. He, which is great. I mean, he was sweet.
Starting point is 00:29:01 He was like, look at this walking stick. Look at this thing, dad. That must be an old pine tree that's cut down. Oh, look, I got,
Starting point is 00:29:07 there's a gold rock here. You know, he was so excited. about everything, but it was like he wanted to stop and look at every single thing. Yeah. And anyway, about 30 minutes into this thing, we're still going up this yellow brick road trail. Bo goes, oh, I need to go to the bathroom. And, oh, this is actually funny.
Starting point is 00:29:25 A little side story is Bose always loved going to the bathroom outside. Like, love, anytime we're in the backyard, he'll go to the bathroom. And Catherine will be like, go inside. He's like, sorry, Mom. I like it. So one day, we were walking back. to our house or our condo. So we had a condo in one building.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Catherine's family had a condo in the other building. And so we were walking from their condo to our condo. And Bo just, we see Bo like just completely like pants down in front of the, in front of like the resort thing. Like not like there was a tree there, but it was not in private at all. Just going. And I'm like, I yell, Bo, what are you doing? And he just like turns and like, you know, shoots the spray over.
Starting point is 00:30:09 like what? So anyway, he's like, hey, dad, I did, we're up on this trail, yellow brick road trail. He's like, hey, dad, I need to go the bathroom. And I'm like, okay, that's fine. Yeah, we, go ahead. He's like, I need to go number two. And I'm like, oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Oh, brown brick road. I was like, maybe, maybe it'll just go away. And he's like, yeah, yeah, maybe it'll go away. Okay. It kind of went away. It kind of went away. And like, we're walking. a little bit longer, you know, he's like, hey, look at that. That's crazy. That tree. I think that,
Starting point is 00:30:43 look at that, that thing looks like a smiley face. You know, he's like saying all these different things. And then like, almost like without even changing like the conversation. I think it looks like a smiley face. I do have to go to the bathroom still dad. Right now. And I'm like, all right. So funny. Hey, look, someone's footsteps are the same size as mine. I do need to dump soon. Yeah, I would, yeah. Hey, wow, this is crazy. Look at those rocks. That one's kind of slippery. I could defecate. pretty bad right about now. You don't mind. Dad, if I ever asked you,
Starting point is 00:31:13 can Democrats shoot off fireworks? I'm gonna, my pants, dad. Oh, so I find this log, you know, I kind of location scout a little bit
Starting point is 00:31:26 for the guy. And I'm like, Beau, I think this is good. I think you're just gonna, you know, kind of stick, you know,
Starting point is 00:31:32 whatever, like suspend yourself over this log and we'll make it happen. I was like, but we didn't have any toilet paper. I was, I was an amateur.
Starting point is 00:31:40 and we had this backpack with some snacks and stuff. And I'm looking around. And I don't know. I probably could have done better at this. I'm not a Boy Scout by any means, as you'll hear later on the story. But like, I don't want to get too into it.
Starting point is 00:31:54 But like sometimes right, right now, I'm still having to wipe my kids bottoms. All right. And so I know their tendencies with going to the bathroom. Okay. And often, dude, it's a clean, it's a clean wipe. Like, it's like, I don't know a good diet.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Yeah. whatever. That was great though. Good job. Like I didn't even, you didn't even need me, man. And so I was like, so you're praying for one of those. Yeah. Let's just, let's just hope. It's one of those. Oh, help he's that fiber. And so sure enough, here it comes,
Starting point is 00:32:24 you know, uh, there it goes. Did it take a lot of encouraging or does he need to go bad and after he's like, I'll squat on this log. I don't care. No, there was there, there was no, no back and forth friction. Like it was, I mean, in more ways than one. It was just like, go ahead. Like, and he's like, oh, like, there was even like,
Starting point is 00:32:40 little spiky things on this log. I was like, you gotta be careful where you're sitting on this. He found the right spot. He went and it just, it just went swimmingly. And I was like, all right, let's see what the damage is back here as far as what we need to get cleaned up. That was not so clean. That was a little bit of a rough time. And this is where it's like, whatever.
Starting point is 00:33:03 The only things I could find in my bag that I'm like, maybe this is kind of a good idea are like snacks. like rappers from the snacks. I mean, I'm over here trying to think what I would do. And like, yeah, you have wrappers from snacks. You have maybe a damp leaf nearby or like your t-shirt. I don't know. And I'm like, I'm like, I could just see something going wrong with the leaves where it's like, yeah, you put poison ivy on there or whatever. And they all looked like they were like evergreen like needle kind of leaves.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Like I couldn't find many that weren't like off the beaten path a little bit. That was there wasn't like a large fern that it just. shed a bunch of leaves. That would have been nice. They didn't have like a fiddly fig lying around anywhere. And so basically I was like, Bo, I think we just got to use the rappers from these snacks. And so I tried to get back there. And he's like, he's like, I'm like, just, what do you want me to do? You know, whatever. And after a few rappers, it still wasn't going great. And so I was like, I think we got to eat some more. We got to get these snacks. We got to eat more snacks. Well, it's probably tough too. If it's like a barbell's bar. You're like, I can't even tell if I got
Starting point is 00:34:08 anything. Well, and so I was like, all right, we've got to eat some more snacks. So I literally, like, gave him a granola bar. I had a granola bar. We like, while his pants are down, I like, cheers the granola bars that we ate him real fast so that we had more rappers to like, but anyway, long story short, he was good. We were fine. We cleaned up.
Starting point is 00:34:27 All right. And, but I realized like probably an hour into this hike, man, maybe not quite, 45 minutes in this hike. Like, whoops, I went the completely wrong way. We started the wrong trailhead. Let's just go back down. Are you still going up at this point? Like, are you still descending into the hike?
Starting point is 00:34:44 Yes, we went up and like on my map on my phone. I had service somehow. It looked like there was like a road like intersection, which it wasn't a real road. It was like a mountain trail kind of road intersection. And that's what I like relooked when I got to the intersection. I was like, oh, we're, we went a mile in the wrong direction. Like we were completely in the wrong.
Starting point is 00:35:04 And so I was like, all right, but let's just go back to the car. I guess, you know, and then we found all these cool gold rocks and we found some other cool stuff. And he's like, does that mean I get my baseball? And I'm like, sure. So we go back down. We're all the way back by the trailhead. I'm like, Bo, I think we were supposed to go that way down that trail. My bad.
Starting point is 00:35:21 And he's like, we could go, you know, see what it looks like for a little bit. And so we start walking down like the right trail. And we just kept going. It just kept like, it just like, it just like kept working. And finally I was like, Bo, I think we're like halfway there. He's like, well, then we might as well, we might as well, we might as well, we might as well, all the way up. And I was like, yeah, yeah. And so we went up there, dude, and it was so cool. Like this old mine, like just the whole thing. Like it just looked awesome. There was this massive,
Starting point is 00:35:52 like a hole, like for where they mine out of, I guess. And this guy that was there was like, hey, take a rock. He trod bow. Take this little rock and drop it down into this hole and see if you can hear where it drops. I would love to do this now. It was awesome. I was like, we got to do that. We got to do that five more times, Bo. That's crazy. You're like, Bo, do you still have to poop anymore? This episode is brought to you by Accenture. Learn more at Accenture.com slash Spotify. Dude, that would have been amazing. Just suspended over this thing. I mean, just, yeah, so beautiful views and just bow just dropped it. Oh, my gosh. Anyway, dude, it said it was 365 feet straight down to this, like, in this hole.
Starting point is 00:37:04 So I was like, that's crazy to think, like, we're standing over this great that has a 360. Anyway, it was awesome. It was so fun. It was so like unexpected. And I had kind of like accepted like, I guess we're not going to do this hike after all. But I think we, I tracked it on my phone, my like health app, whatever. I think we walked like six and a half miles, you know.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Oh way. And he did great. Like he was. And I don't know. I wish I could, I wish I were a better dad. If I were a better dad, I would understand like how did he how did he do so great right then? And how do you not do so great like other times? You know, like what?
Starting point is 00:37:37 Yeah. Like let's figure this out. verse engineer at this. Like sometimes Bo can just be completely resilient and completely like, I can do anything. Yeah, I'll carry that thing. And other times you give him a feather and he'll start whining and be like, it's too heavy. It's too heavy. I can't.
Starting point is 00:37:53 And I'm like, what are we doing here? So that is really interesting. It's like, yeah, how do we harness this hiking bow? I don't know. High fiber bow. And exactly. Regular bow. And of course, I think there's different, like the dynamics of,
Starting point is 00:38:09 just being with me versus maybe being with me and Catherine or whatever like whatever all the siblings or I don't know but it was awesome dude it was so fun uh but yeah he pooped in the woods and I had never thought to do and so I will never go hiking without toilet paper ever again I'll always at least bring something so that's beautiful anyway even a napkin would have been something you know so I mean thank goodness you had the snacks I guess yeah yeah yeah I don't know. Yeah, I guess I would have, I would have tried to just be more selective with leaves, I guess.
Starting point is 00:38:45 I don't know, man. I don't know. So, good job. Thanks. Good job. So, when of the week was that hike slash bow going to the bathroom? So here's my, um, question of the week.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Okay. Back to the, back to the fourth, back to the steves. You know, we're all, we hung out for four straight days. They get to see Isaac's, moped that he bought as soon as he got here. I don't know if you knew that. But, you know, he had borrowed Gunners, but the Gunners didn't work. So he got to do it.
Starting point is 00:39:16 He's like, I'd already mentally committed to like having a moped. So I'll just get another one. Anyway, we all get talking. And Steve Coop just can't believe how fun that looks. And boy, I'd like to, I'd like to get me one of those. And, you know, I think Rachel says something like, you should get one and drive it down here from Iowa and then just leave it here for when you come visit. and um,
Starting point is 00:39:38 Isaac goes, Steve, if you drive an moped down from Iowa, I'll give you five grand. Then my dad goes, for five grand, I'll carry it down. I'll walk and carry it.
Starting point is 00:39:50 So I feel like there's a like, more conversation after that. I think there is a legitimate chance that both Steve's true dumb and dumber style might ride a moped down to Phoenix. And I feel like as ghosties, the question is,
Starting point is 00:40:04 how much are you willing to spend? Like if we all kind of like pitching together, if we get this up to, I don't know, 10, 15 grand, I mean, they would have to, right? They would have to drive here on a moped. And the only requirement is please document it. Yeah, like a Kickstarter. Like if it doesn't come to fruition, you don't have to pay. You get your money back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:24 But like if they complete the task, you and document it well, yeah, you have to pay. That would be a sight to see, dude. Yeah, just Harry and Lowe. just you have to go through. I mean, like, I don't know what the path is. The whole state of Kansas on a moped is going to get a little dry or just a little boring. But. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:40:46 That's nothing compared to like Utah or New Mexico. Like, yeah, it'd be New Mexico, right? Or Colorado. Could it get through Colorado or it'd have to go another direction, I guess. That's a good point. They might have to push it a little bit. It'd be a fun journey, though. I hear Steve Triplett as,
Starting point is 00:41:06 you're listening to this, I love you. I don't know if Steve Triplica could do it. I am 100% confident that Steve Kooke could do it. Because I think Steve loves everything. Like, like, like, he could, he would, he would be fascinated to go to any town along the way and talk to anybody in here, any story. Yeah. You know what I mean? That, that is a fair point. I feel like they both have, you know, both grew up farmers, both have the grit where like nothing bothers them. I mean, you should have seen the crap my dad was eating while he was here. I mean, we have everything you could ever want. And I saw, it's like 8 a.m.
Starting point is 00:41:41 He grabbed a burger out of the fridge, threw a little ketchup mustard on it and just ate the whole burger. Like, just take 30 seconds to go in the microwave. Yeah. And he's like, wow, it's fine. He's like, you warm something up the microwave and maybe it doesn't all get the same heat and the inside's cold. The outside's way too hot.
Starting point is 00:41:59 And he's like, straight out of the fridge. It's all the same temperature. We're good. Yeah. I mean, we bought a baloney kind of as a joke, but I mean, he finished that off. He ate the whole thing, you know, point being he could make it. But you are right that Steve Coop does love everything. I mean, even when we picked him up, he goes, man, that, that regional airport, because
Starting point is 00:42:20 that's where Allegiant flies into, he goes, that is an amazing airport. And we go, we actually haven't been in it. Like, what did you like about it? What did it look like? He goes, ah, I wasn't really paying attention to what it looked like. Like, well, what did you? What was that based off of? he's like it's just great it's just it's just convenient it's right here so yeah he likes it all okay yeah
Starting point is 00:42:40 yeah i don't know i i i've seen your dad annoyed jokingly most of the time but i've seen him annoyed i've literally never seen steve coop anything but happy could be quite the journey even when he's talking about something that's like really seriously like scary to him or something i'm always just like i can't take you seriously like you're not you're like oh yeah i was really mad about that oh that was bad. I'm like, yeah, but you're, you're fine. Like, you're, you're happy. I don't know, I don't know how to describe it, but I would, I'd pony up some money. I would not pony up five grand. I don't have that kind of disposable income right now, Steve's, but, or I might even like offer up something beyond money. I would, I might offer up a, a motivational, like,
Starting point is 00:43:23 I'll meet you somewhere and like, I'll be like a, what they call like a sag, a sag stop for you. Like, I'll, I'll provide you with some stuff along the way. That's, that's fun. If we can, like, get the trail down and like people can be along the way like passing them out protein bars or like you know that's fun yeah we need some ghosty to kind of figure out this path let's assume they start in well i don't know where they start i don't know if they start in springfield or iowa one of the two but would they have their own propette you think surely i think it would get their own yeah dumb and dumber would have the same but like i mean and they it would break down at points like They need to maintain this thing.
Starting point is 00:44:05 I mean, I have driven through, I've driven from Phoenix back to Kansas or to Manhattan. And there are some places in like, I think it was either New Mexico or Utah where it was like, we are beyond the middle of nowhere right now. Like there is no one. It was like some reservations and stuff. Like it was just like near Monument Valley. We went through that if you know where that is. And it was like, this is crazy. So I can't imagine what happened if they broke down there.
Starting point is 00:44:32 Like you're the only other car besides like an RV that's like cooking meth, you know, like that's it. It's like just you and them in all of New Mexico. Truly. Yeah, there's some bodies out there, you know, kind of thing. So I. Anyway, so Gossese, let us know. Yeah. My dad's done bike across Kansas quite a few times.
Starting point is 00:44:51 And that's a different kind of hard, but I think it took them like seven days or something, six days. Wow. I think something like that would take a long time. Like, because they're going what? 40 miles an hour max yeah i know at least isaac's can only go like 40 so they would want to get something
Starting point is 00:45:10 a little better oh my god you gotta you gotta steve steves you'd like to think if they were if they were head to toe in some cozy earth though dude they'd be just fine yeah yeah i think i'm not positive that sturges is sponsored by cozy earth
Starting point is 00:45:31 you know sturgis but oh sturgis what do you think it is jake what do you think sturgis they make uh they make chaps kind of close uh they yeah do do does cozy earth have chaps it depends on how you categorize how do you define chaps some people say chaps are less like another word for men and they do have chaps clothing yes they do yeah they have closing for chaps they have clothing for lassies um yep sturgis is like a uh uh like a motorcycle ride like a huge like I think it's in South Dakota or North Dakota somewhere like that and there's like thousands of people that come to this thing to like ride down the highway or something together I don't know huge thing I'll just say I think they're all decked out if you are a true Harley head then you're probably head to toe in Cozy Earth so dude truly I don't think it was just because of this because I also was acclimated to the altitude,
Starting point is 00:46:36 I slept terribly like the first three nights in Colorado because I was not used to my cozy earth pillow not being there and my cozyer sheets not being there. And I didn't think to pack my cozy earth clothes. I should have. It would have been a great hack for me.
Starting point is 00:46:51 It is just such a big difference. I mean, I never wake up in the middle of the night at home, but I do in hotels or Airbnb's and maybe, yeah, I just need to bring everything. I need to bring a fitted cozier sheet, the top sheet, the pillowcase. Yep.
Starting point is 00:47:08 My cozy earth, um, uh, um, uh, lammy that I, I had them custom make for me, you know, maybe we need to bring it all. Yeah. What do you call it? The lammy? You just call it lamey? Sturge.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Sturge. It's a bird. Sturge. Uh, yeah. If you go to cozy earth.com slash ghostrunners, they are a sponsor of the podcast. And they make the most cozy things that you can imagine. use our promo code GRKC for 20% off. It's the best.
Starting point is 00:47:37 It's the, I don't know. It truly is like, like Catherine was like, I can't wait to get home to our bed. Like she said that. I can't wait to sleep in our own bed tonight. And that is so thanks to Cozier. So cozierth.com slash ghostrunners,
Starting point is 00:47:51 GRKC for 20% off, the best, most comfortable things you could ever imagine. Yeah. And we're back. Dude, I did have altitude sickness. Or not altitude sickness. I was affected by the altitude at night. Altitudes?
Starting point is 00:48:06 Yeah, I got a little altitudey, but like, um, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, hikes and stuff were fine. But then at night, I did feel it to the point where I think the third night, like I'd slept terribly two nights. I was getting, I, I had to Google something called altitude insomnia. That's what I googled because I was having these like, I don't know if this is what insomnia is or not, but I just like couldn't sleep and I couldn't stop like kind of unconsciously no not unconsciously subconscious whatever like I wasn't intentionally thinking these things
Starting point is 00:48:38 I just kept thinking about like like over and over again I had this conversation in my head about like what if Catherine doesn't like this condo enough then we'll have to spend $2,500 on another condo and I couldn't stop like that was like on repeat every single time I couldn't fall asleep and I'm like what I'm in my my conscious self is like I know that she's fine with this condo first we're good she loves she'll talk about how nice it is and also even if it, even if she hated it, I wouldn't move. You know, whatever. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:08 Like the whole thing was just like, what are we doing? And then the next day, the next day, so I'm sure you've seen emails. I'm supposed to get the last payments for all these ghosty getaway people. And so I kept in my head being like, what was the best way to send out an email to them? How do I, how do I get a deposit from the ghosty getaways? So I do it this way? Should I do a mass email? And it was like, what?
Starting point is 00:49:28 I'm not, this is like, I couldn't stop thinking about these weird things. That is interesting. Yeah, is that insomnia? Just like obsessing over like minor like strange things. And then ever, but like every once in a while like I would be on my side thinking about these things. And then I would like turn over on my back and realize like, what are you what are you doing that for? Like it was like two different people or so. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:49 It was really odd, dude. It was like it was not completely conscious, but it was definitely like something that was keeping me awake. I don't know. That is really interesting. Yeah. Kind of in and out of sleep. So nothing makes a ton of sense. but like you're alarmed by it.
Starting point is 00:50:05 Yeah. And so the third night I went down. They had like an oxygen bar in the in this like resort area that we were in. And I just like, you know, got hooked up to this like little tube thing. No way. I just stuck some oxygen for like 30 minutes. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:19 I don't know if it was messed or not. But I slept better that night. I remember seeing those in Vegas probably 15 years ago and just thinking this is the future. And I don't really see them much. anymore. It's hard to find. No. Yeah. I was like, I don't know. I'll try it out. And there were times where I was like, I don't think that this thing's even on. And then every once in a while it was like, whoa, it was almost like I got like intoxicated, like not intoxicated, like hot, like my, my head would would get woozy or something. I was like, I think it's working. So. And does it provide a scent or is it
Starting point is 00:50:52 just supposed to be a bunch of oxygen? I think there's options for scents, but the place that I use, it just looked like something from like a hospital. Like it was literally like wraps around from the back. I'll send you, I'll send you a picture real quick. Or I'll just post it right here. I'll show you on the, because I sit one to Catherine. I was originally going to go to like the store because they have like these oxygen things you can buy. But then I saw this bar. I was like, I let's go there. So here I am. You see that? There I am. Just hooked up. You are you fully zipped up to. Yeah, it was cold out. It was going down. I thought I was
Starting point is 00:51:32 going to go outside. So, uh, sit at the catholic, they were like, hey, took a quick detour to get some oxygen here. I'll be down at the bar. I'm buying some, some O2 for the boys, a round of O2. It is crazy how altitude works. I don't know. Like, because is Arizona any higher? I'm sure it's a little higher, but. Yeah, I looked it up because I was curious. And it's like, I think we're like 1, 300, which is like just barely above Kansas City. Okay. So pretty normal. But anyway, fun times, dude. the oxygen bar that's yeah yeah what else is going on with you uh i'm a grill guy now do you hear no but i love it yep what are you putting on that grill i think the morning of the fourth of
Starting point is 00:52:13 july went and played pickleball and then immediately went straight to lows and i bought a grill so we could grow with our families on the fourth of july and end up going with a blackstone oh okay and i think what happened something funny happened with buying it Oh, just took forever. This girl just sending me on a rat race. Just like, hey, all right, I'll get your girl loaded up. In the meantime, go ahead and get your propane over there. And I'm like, where over there?
Starting point is 00:52:42 She goes, just go, just tell them you already bought. That's the propane desk. Tell them you already bought some. I'm thinking propane desk. The pro desk, maybe. I don't know. She said, I said she's been working here 15 years. Okay.
Starting point is 00:52:53 So then I go over, I wish we had footage of this. And I just go up to this guy, go, is this the propane desk? And it looked like you want to slap me in the face. it's not the propane desk what are you talking about you think we have a whole desk peggy begie said like i don't i don't know sorry but i bought propane he goes do you have the receipt i'm like it's in the car i'll go back and then just had to do the walk of shame back to the car back to the propane desk and yeah it's just a regular checkout area there's no propane there's a propane cage outside um so i don't know if it's some sort of prank they do and they can tell you're
Starting point is 00:53:30 buying your first grill I do like that. Yeah, like initiate the guy with like, hey, watch this. Let's do the propane desk trick. That's awesome, though. So you got a blackstone, so like a flat top kind of thing, right? Yes. Like not like greats.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Like, yeah. Okay. Blackstone, 32 inches or so, you know, medium size, nothing crazy. Oh, you'll get a little pain hooked up to it. Yeah. Me and my dad put it together. And I think, yeah. My first time.
Starting point is 00:54:01 really grilling on it was we had Isaac over a few nights ago. I think he was already over here doing you can see all the crap we got going on. This is because we've taken everything out of our downstairs guest bedroom and Isaac is going to go nuts building our new podcast studio. And anyway, he's going to do it as like a surprise to me. So I don't get to know like what it's going to look like. Ooh, kind of like a stream makeover home edition kind of thing. Like this is my room. Or fix it or whatever. Yeah, we should do some funny like before and after. Have somebody beat Ty Pendington. Anyway, I think he was over for that and we were playing on making stuff.
Starting point is 00:54:35 And I don't know if Isaac, we know Isaac's a nice guy. So that could be what it is. But he continues to go on and on about that first night that I grilled. So he's really butter in my biscuit. Okay. It was kind of a habachi night a little bit, some veggies, some rice and just some, some chicken. Love it, dude. That's perfect.
Starting point is 00:54:54 I think, I think one of the best things to do on a, like, a flat top like that is like fajitas or habaachi kind of thing like anything that's like really quick and like simple like you're not going to mess it up unless you just burn the crap out of this thing like you know yeah didn't seem too hard now it was um
Starting point is 00:55:13 chicken thighs so I was kind of making fun of myself like my first time grilling and I'm grilling 75 of something at once you know it's a little hard to flip all those over you know at the same time or yes uh yeah I know that's tough it is tough I'm like I think I got this one.
Starting point is 00:55:31 Yeah. Every once in while I'm like, I don't think I'm using the right tool for this. Like sometimes I'm using tongs. I'm like I should be using like a big old thing and just like flipping them and hoping they flip it the right time. Yeah, you almost need like a like a pizza thing. Yeah. Let's get all of them at once. Dang, I have one of those.
Starting point is 00:55:48 That's a good idea. I might do that next time we make fajitas. Yeah. Great idea. It's fun. It's fun. I like it. Then I immediately left town to be gone like four days.
Starting point is 00:55:58 But then today I'm back. and my grill again tonight. We'll see. There is no need to be intimidated. I think anybody that's like, and I didn't say that's what you are, but like, at least me, I was like, I don't know how to grill. It's so easy. Dude, just put it on there and then turn it over at some point. Like, that's about it.
Starting point is 00:56:14 That's all you got to do to grill. Like people that are like, oh, he's so good on the grill. I'm like, nope, I think he just does it. I don't think anybody's, it's not hard. Dude, there was a guy like that in college. He had bought a camera before anyone else has. And I'm like, dude, Aaron is such a good photographer. I'm like, he has a cannon and we have the iPhone 5.
Starting point is 00:56:33 Yeah, it's going to look better than ours. Right. I think he just bought a few tutorials on what settings to use. And, you know, yeah, I did that. Dude, something, last thing I'll say, you would have probably died laughing at this as well. Luckily, Isaac was outside and also got to see it. But I had turned the propane on and I'd even turn the burners on.
Starting point is 00:56:51 And then I think I got distracted a little bit. I'm talking a little bit and realizing, okay, oh yeah, I didn't like light it. And there was a bit of a buildup. I hit that thing. Boof. Boof. And I mean, you saw orange, like, very much leave the little amount of space below the Blackstone.
Starting point is 00:57:11 And Isaac was dying, laughing. And they were also like, dude, why didn't you flinch? I, like, didn't move. I, like, just, like, took it in. I was like, whoa, how about that? I don't know if you have good survival instincts. I mean, it's funny because we've all been there. Like, that's what's talking about it.
Starting point is 00:57:29 It's like, I don't know if this thing is, I can't get this thing to light. Boom. Like, oh, gosh. Yeah. I guarantee you, Isaac's been there. If anybody's been there, it's Isaac. That's amazing, dude. I guess I should probably ignite this bad boy.
Starting point is 00:57:43 Oh, yeah, I forgot to do that. Yeah, back in the day. And even this grill that I have now, like, the, I feel like the starter is always, like, the first thing to go. Like, it just doesn't work anymore. And so, like, on this one, I just use a, like a lighter, like a handheld lighter. Oh, yeah. but at the grill that we had when we were living at the K-Life house back in the day
Starting point is 00:58:02 I would literally like I couldn't even get a I was too scared of the lighter I was such a baby and like I was I was terrified of what happened to you that kind of has happened like more or less and I was like dude that could have like singed my eyebrows off dude like I don't know about and so I would literally take a paper towel and light it on fire in the corner and like drop it through the grate and hope it would like ignite the rest of the that's a good idea I think Peter and I figure that out the first time. He's like, yeah, that'll work. But yeah, man, it is, it is crazy when it just like, boom, so fun.
Starting point is 00:58:40 So. Yeah, our lighter works right now. I will say one of the best types of meat to grill on a Blackstone is good ranchers. Chicken thighs are amazing from good ranchers. Good ranchers actually, like, they will sell you, like, one of the things in the chicken box is cut up, pre-cut up. like fajita strip chicken. It's amazing. So check that out. Also,
Starting point is 00:59:04 the burgers from Good Ranchers are nuts. Well, I know that's not for you, but just in general, that's a fun thing to do on the Blackstone. I'm trying to think of other things. Pancakes from Good Ranchers on the Blackstone are fun. I do want to find some,
Starting point is 00:59:18 like, good protein pancakes and go nuts on that Blackstone. So I'll talk to Good Ranchers. Ingredients has some. I wouldn't call them good, but I would call them protein pancakes. But we're not advertised for just agrees right now. We're advertised for Good Ranchers.
Starting point is 00:59:32 So go to Good Rancher.com, user promo code GRKC, and get yourself some blackstoneable meat. Did you and Catherine happen to? For Blackstone either. Get yourself some flat, poppable meat. There you go. Yeah. Have you and Catherine got over to visit Max and get our things yet? No, we have not.
Starting point is 00:59:53 Why do you, are you getting some? Well, what I was going to say is. we love good ranchers, but boy, do they love sending my meat to my old address. Oh, shoot. So I don't know what Max is doing with it, but I think this is now the second box that has gone there. So when you go get our things, you know, depending on how the vibes are, the conversation is, like, and did you, you see any meats or anything? And, you know, feel free to redeem that as well for yourself. And he's like, he's like, he's like trying to remember.
Starting point is 01:00:19 Like, oh, did that meet? Was it the kind that has antibiotics in it? No, no, no. No, you shouldn't have seen any antibiotics. No, but the one that has like hormones, though. No, no, no. There was a bunch of meat that showed up that said made and slaughtered and butchered and packaged and farmed in China.
Starting point is 01:00:37 Was it that? No, no, no. Oh, the one that says like good ranchers, welcome to the table, American meat delivered. That was delivered right to my door, frozen. And either ready to create a thought or ready to put in my freezer for a rainy day. Yes. the really convenient, really tasty one that did show up.
Starting point is 01:00:58 Actually ate it all because it was so good. Sorry. Yes. Yes. Oh, yes. So yes, we did get that. Could you keep that coming for me on a monthly basis? Do you know how? Shoot. And then you would say yes.
Starting point is 01:01:12 You would say yes. Go to good ventures.com. Use the promo code GRKC. And you're going to get that box even faster because you get free expedited shipping. You're going to get that box even cheaper because you're going to get some money off using the promo code. Dang. And you're going to get, oh, what's this? What's this the second box?
Starting point is 01:01:27 Or what's this? A giant box that's even more full of stuff? A free protein out on for as long as I keep my subscription for life. Even if I'm dead, I could probably pass this on to my grandchildren. Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Dang, Good Rangers is good. We came home to a Good Rangers box and we are very excited about it. We made sure that my parents, hey, mom and dad, can you please take this and put it in the freezer for us?
Starting point is 01:01:50 But it's the best. We had chicken nuggets literally seed oil-free chicken nuggets. It's one of the biggest hacks ever. Kids all love it. It's a guaranteed win every single time. And you can feel good about eating it. So go to good rancher.com. Use a promo code GRKZ.
Starting point is 01:02:04 It's the best. That's what I'm going to say. That's what I'm going to say about. Dude, I love that you're a grill guy now. What are you going to? Yeah. What's next?
Starting point is 01:02:13 Yeah. I guess you can't do bacon. You can do turkey bacon, but, because you can do people. Yeah. You'll get into that, like some, some sausage and stuff.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Yep. Yep. That's fun. Eggs. I think the other things I'm like, You could branch out and do eggs if you want. No, you don't want to do that.
Starting point is 01:02:30 I did make a vow to Rachel that this is my, I need to grow up and I need to learn to like eggs. So this might be, you know, an extra like shove in the right direction. Like, let me figure this out. Okay.
Starting point is 01:02:39 Maybe if I cook up myself, I have a little more investment into the egg. Maybe it'll suddenly taste better. Maybe it'll taste like a... You jokingly say that. That is like my strategy to get my kids to like some of the foods that... Like, I'm like, maybe if they make it themselves,
Starting point is 01:02:53 they'll feel like this ownership of like, yeah, I made the egg. so therefore I'm going to eat them better. It hasn't worked so far, but we're trying it. It makes sense on paper. Thank you. You hear that?
Starting point is 01:03:05 It was on. Could you hear that? Yeah. I'm hearing a lot of stuff, but I'm powering through. For real? What's going on? What's everyone else hearing? I would say, for me, about 60% of this episode is like,
Starting point is 01:03:16 you're super laggy. There's like all this fuzziness in your audio and... Oh, no. It's fine. We will figure it out. We're the ghost fronters. Really? but not the whole time.
Starting point is 01:03:28 60% that was bad. Oh, bummer. Okay. You think it's just my internet? I guess, but I feel like the removal of the hub might have fixed that, so I don't know. Who knows, man.
Starting point is 01:03:43 All right, you say more things then. You'd give me more. We'll keep troubleshooting, but, what was going to say? Timing back, timing, come on back. Time.
Starting point is 01:03:52 Come on back. Go on. Come on. A couple mysteries that have been solved in my neighborhood. one, I think I talked about how the garage door was just randomly opening, even closed a couple times,
Starting point is 01:04:04 and we didn't tell it to. Have I given an update about this on the podcast? No. Okay, I didn't think so. I think this happened over the fourth. Our neighbor across the street came over. It said, hey, it's us, basically. We realized that our garage door,
Starting point is 01:04:18 I was backing into my driveway the other day, and I noticed I hit my garage door and yours opened, and I thought, oh, that's funny, they're leaving at the same time. And then there was no car in your garage. And I thought, why would they open the garage door if there's no car there. So then I hit it again.
Starting point is 01:04:30 You were closed. I hit it one more time and open again. So she's like, so apparently it's been us and we will reprogram our garage door and we're sorry. I was like, hey, no worries. That's fun that you figure that out.
Starting point is 01:04:41 That's crazy. They did rob you though. If something's missing, I would go to them first. Yeah. Once again, I find it hard to believe that the other tenants
Starting point is 01:04:51 are just like, no, never happened. I'm like, this suddenly just started happening, right, when we moved in and didn't touch anything. but yeah really got that solved and then probably just like five days ago i don't know if you
Starting point is 01:05:03 saw my Instagram story but we come outside and we had been tepeeed there's just toilet paper all over our front yard and we're like what in the world we don't know anybody here i saw that or Caleb Sullivan texted you did you figure out who tepeeed you and i was like jake got teepied yeah i was like what's either isaac or nathan i don't think they would um and then we left to go pick up some furniture and came back an hour later and um it was all gone And so everyone on Instagram, and this makes sense, seems to think that it was the wrong house. At some point, they realized it, oh, crap, we, you know,
Starting point is 01:05:36 we think the old renters might have had, like, a high school girl. So I guess TEPing is still happening among the youth. Okay. That's kind of our best working mystery. But, yeah, there was a brief moment where I was like, we're a part of a scary movie. Like, this is how they all start.
Starting point is 01:05:53 We're like, oh, this kind of random thing. Like, mysterious things are happening. and it's like, man, I don't like this. And somehow the dog peas wrapped into it too. I don't know how. Oh, yeah. Is that fixed yet? I'm going to text to my thing first thing tomorrow morning and just be like,
Starting point is 01:06:09 when could we get somebody in here to clean this? Because we can't really like fully settle in until they do that. You know, it's like, because we have to take everything out of those rooms so they can clean it. So definitely ready to get that behind us and move some things around. Okay. So it has not been, nothing's been done yet? No, my parents stayed in the dog pay room the whole time they were here.
Starting point is 01:06:29 And they could tell. Yeah. A little bit. They were good sports about it. Dang. That's crazy. But yeah, for the most part, mysteries have been solved. And, yeah, the house is still great.
Starting point is 01:06:40 Let me read this. This is an email from Kylie. Because it has to do with this a little bit. I said, hi, hi, Jake and Brad. I started listening to the pod from the first episode back in 2022 when I was working for a difficult job. It was so hopefully to be allowed to, to last, laugh along with you guys when the situation I was in wasn't the most uplifting. I was born and raised in Gilbert.
Starting point is 01:07:03 Based on the places Jake has talked about, I think my parents' house is just like a mile away from him. But I moved to Orange, California at the end of 2024. Moving away from my family has been the hardest thing I've ever done, but being able to hang out with my old friends on Monday and Wednesdays, that's us, has made the live transition a little bit easier. I was so excited to hear that Jake was moving to Arizona and hearing about the places
Starting point is 01:07:21 I know so well has made me a little less homesick. then this is the part that I was like we got to talk about this. It did kind of worry me when you joked about scorpions not being a big deal. My dad's nightly routine is going out with a black light and some raid and spraying all the scorpions that hide on the walls outside.
Starting point is 01:07:39 And then in parentheses she said, I think his record for one night was in the 50s. And she said also growing up we had a mason jar specifically for the scorpions we found on the ceiling. Thanks for all the laughs and relatable stories. I'm excited to hear about your new adventures. Whether life serves you an ace or an unexpected backhand, the high-protein yogurt, Oikos Pro, is there to feed your strength

It's about being able to bounce back. Oikos Pro, feed your strength. Visit oikos.ca for more details. You're not allowed to email that. You can't just tell me in any given time there'd be 50 scorpions outside my house.
Starting point is 01:08:32 Hey, but thanks for all the laughs. You guys are the best. Hey, enjoy, enjoy you. I hope you have a good night's sleep tonight. Check for scorpions everywhere. Yeah, don't let the 50 scorpions bite. Honestly, I thought that this was because they were going to say something about your garage. But I think that was a different email or a different comment or something about snakes
Starting point is 01:08:57 coming into your garage now that I did not read it in that one. Let's go ahead and say no more scorpion emails, no more snake emails. Do not send me that. No no emails like that. The hard way, please. I don't want to I don't want to know anything. Oh dude. Sounds like I live in the same neighborhood as her parents and they found 50 scorpions.
Starting point is 01:09:19 No, a mile away. What would eat a scorpion? A mile away. So maybe you got a scorpion corridor, a corridor away. Maybe you need to bring Bo down here. I feel like Bo wouldn't shy away from a scorpion. Wow, dude. Look at this.
Starting point is 01:09:33 Speak of the devil. Come here. Come here. Come here. Come here. Come say hi to Mr. Jake. Say hi. Oh, there he is.
Starting point is 01:09:41 Hi. Hey, he was just saying, Mr. Jake, do you know what scorpions are, Bo? No. Okay. They're like big old, like, kind of nasty. We call them bugs, Jake? Yeah, I'd say bugs with a stinger. And sometimes in Arizona where Jake lives now, there's a ton of them.
Starting point is 01:09:58 thinks that you need to come help kill him that sound good sure yes what would you use to kill him i don't know i saw you were just out there you were running around with your rope looking like indiana jones looking like a cool guy um yeah what would you use to kill snakes come on think about it hey i told i told mr jake how we went to the mine it was awesome oh yeah Remember that? Yeah. What was your favorite part? Rocks down.
Starting point is 01:10:35 Yeah, that was crazy. Oh, yeah. I told him how you had to go to the bathroom on the mountain. Remember that? Yeah. It was a good time, wasn't it? Yeah. Great.
Starting point is 01:10:49 All right. I got to finish this episode up. We were talking about scorpions, though, and Mr. Jake said, oh, I need Bo to come help me kill some. You would do a good job. Yeah. I love you. Hey, can you please shut the door for me? Thanks. That was crazy. Literally, as you said, I need Bo to come. I need Bo. He's like, yeah, what's up? Yeah. I'll kill. I don't know how I'll kill him, but I'll kill him.
Starting point is 01:11:12 someone say, Beau? Yeah. So, yeah, have you seen any, any Arizona things yet? Like, I feel like you need to like, there's like certain things. It's like, hey, if you're a true Arizona guy, you have to get these, this checklists. And I don't know if you've hit those things yet. Yeah, you're right. It's probably like, um, you, you, you meet a Native American, you get a scorpion bite and you get, you know, skin cancer. It's like, yeah, oh, yeah, you're one of us now. Cool. You get annoyed when the Super Bowl comes to town. Yeah, all the traffic from, yeah, the final four this year. I think we're going to go to our first Diamondbacks game on Sunday.
Starting point is 01:11:55 Coling's big Cardinals fan. They're coming to towns. We're going to go. Sweet. That'll be fun. Diamondbacks have a pool in the outfield. Yeah, that's about all I know. Luis Gonzalez.
Starting point is 01:12:07 Chase Field. I use a Chase credit card. I don't know if that gets me into the pool. pool or I think that's all I ask yeah it was a sapphire preferred no okay I don't know you'll just think I would I would I doubt it I wouldn't I wouldn't expect it at least um I'll call that my review of the week do you have a review of the week for this week thanks I didn't hear the first part of what you said but I heard review of the week which that's crazy I hope that this is not going to be like negative for the ghosties that can't hear I feel like it's going to
Starting point is 01:12:43 save fine for you. I have belief. So it's just kind of like, hey, let's just guess what Brad said the whole time. That's wild. Huh. Okay. Yeah, go ahead. That was my review of the week is what I said. You do your review. Oh, I see. I see. Yeah. Okay. Cade Bennett says, I'm so into the World Cup right now, but I can't wait to go back to making fun of soccer in a few weeks. This game is electric, but also so stupid. Get up, dude. Your knee is fine. That's great. I wonder how many Americans also feel that way of like, I find myself pretty into soccer.
Starting point is 01:13:20 I'm annoyed by 40% of what I'm saying, but I still keep coming back for more. Yeah. I'll say this. Now that America is out, I did feel like a sense of relief of like, okay, good. It's kind of like when you're like running like a race. I was going to say a marathon. I've never done that. But like it's like, hey, yeah, this is kind of fun to like do this and train for this.
Starting point is 01:13:42 And like while you're running, it's kind of fun. It's kind of fun. But then when you're done running, it's like, yeah, I don't really want to do that again, you know? Actually, it wasn't that. I mean, but wasn't that fun. Yeah, I convinced myself it was fine. It was fun.
Starting point is 01:13:53 I'm okay. I'm okay with it being over it. I don't know. It's like, it was like a sense of relief. Because it's like, I'm not going to not watch it. I got to watch the game. Yeah. But.
Starting point is 01:14:06 Yeah, I still like, there's enough of a sports fan in me where I'm like, I wouldn't mind checking in a little bit and just like, like, seeing what's going on, but I think I've done watching a match. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like a, like, like, let's, let's check in when there's like 15 minutes left and see if it's a good game. And if it is, I'll check it out kind of thing.
Starting point is 01:14:26 Yeah. So I will admit, I feel like the soccer fans out there will appreciate this. Um, I even couldn't believe it. I was for some reason on our jean shorts YouTube account because I got some email that was like, well, it doesn't matter. Whatever. I was on there. And it was like, um, the YouTube home screen for,
Starting point is 01:14:43 Gene Torts account said, you want to watch the 14-minute cutdown of Argentina versus Egypt? You know, and I'd heard it was a crazy comeback. And I kind of like looked over my shoulder. Make sure no one's watching. I actually would like to see what happened. Wouldn't hate being in the know for this. Yeah, 14 minutes. I heard. I saw Tom Brady tweet that this would top 283. So I kind of want to what it's all about. Okay. So I did. I watched a recap video of a soccer match with zero Americans, just for the love of sport. Was it crazy? It was cool. Yeah. I mean, it's just like a, you know, I don't know what the equivalent
Starting point is 01:15:25 would be, but just like one of those things where, you know, the other team in basketball scored nine points in four seconds or, you know, something kind of like that and just like, you know, recovered their own onside and scored again type thing. They just scored two goals at the very end. So cool. Good job to Lionel. I'm going to get his cold play. So no problem. If you want to come back from, you know, 283 down, come homeways getaways.com. Any neighbor updates or everything good with the signage? I went over there today, actually.
Starting point is 01:15:58 And one of the neighbors has taken all their signs off or away. One of the neighbors, like I think I told you like, if you walk out the door of my Airbnb, they had a sign that was like directly across the street. Like that's like they took that one down. So they still have one, but the other one's down or like out. So I don't know if it was like, hey, we're mowing the grass and we're going to take this sign. They didn't put it in or what. But I don't know.
Starting point is 01:16:24 I think it's fizzling out. I mean, so, I mean, we've had no issues besides just those passive aggressive signs. I wonder what that is. It's like you kind of want, if they're going to be your neighbors, you kind of want them to stand up for what they believe in. You're going to roll over after what, a week and a half? Come on. Yeah, if anything, fight harder. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:42 Yeah, but it's also like, all right, I'm glad that you're not. as annoyed. Yeah. No, yeah, nothing too bad. I mean, really cool.
Starting point is 01:16:49 I think July, every, I think all but like two days this month, one of my Airbnb, the first one, has, is booked.
Starting point is 01:16:58 Like, we have it for every single day pretty much. Oh, yeah. Pretty cool. So yeah, just continues to be going well.
Starting point is 01:17:06 I'm a super host. Oh, officially a super host. S.H. Yeah. And like, I was more proud of that than I,
Starting point is 01:17:14 thought I would be. Like when they're like, I got the email, it's like, Brad, you're officially a super host. I mean, seriously, that's a big deal. I look for that. I know. That's pretty good, but I better check into this. Yeah, what's the one negative review that's making this bad. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:45 So check by most reason. Congrats, man. Thanks, man. Big time. Big time. But yeah, everything's going well with it. Can't complain. Fun.
