Give me that fract, colossal obsessions Give me that fract, colossal obsessions Give me that fract, colossal Obsessions Hey guys, this summer comes to a rapid close. The GGACP crew is in various states of vacation and work. Gilbert's on the road, Frank is busy working, and Raybone is visiting his family in the Mississippi Delta. It's an extended family reunion.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Lots of body parts being traded. This is something we talked about doing a while ago. We just never really got around to it. But we thought, wouldn't it be fun to string together all these interesting musical moments from episodes over the last few years? And there have been so many with and without Gilbert singing along. so many with and without Gilbert singing along. And then we thought rather than just picking our favorites, we would turn it over to you guys who are the voice of the show and use your actual voices. We asked you to turn in your favorite moments and we'll string it all together and turn
Starting point is 00:02:15 this into a mini and we'll do it again if we have more down the road because there are just too many great musical moments. The first track I'm going to play, we actually had a few people ask for. I remember it well because it was really technically challenging because we had the singer and guest was in LA with us in New York, and the latency over Skype was really hard to overcome. In the end, it didn't matter because Gilbert doesn't have rhythm so uh you guys never noticed here it is hey i'm matt hines i'm going with ron dante and gilbert singing sugar sugar are you willing to sing with this man uh ron as we take this uh as we as we wind this down he he did sing happy together with howard last week i'll you know, he sang Wichita Lineman with Jimmy Webb. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:03:08 What a kick. You know, I live for these moments. But I'm game if you are. Okay. Now, we're not sure of your voice, but I'll carry you. Oh, my God. What do you feel like doing?
Starting point is 00:03:25 Frankie, do you have that queued up? This is karaoke music. You'll start first. I'll start. We'll point. Okay. Here goes nothing. Ah, sugar.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Ah, honey, honey You are my candy girl And you got me wanting you Take it, Gil. Honey Ah, sugar, sugar You are my candy girl And you got me one, you I just can't believe the loveliness of loving you
Starting point is 00:04:17 I just can't believe it's true I just can't believe the wonder of this feeling too I just can't believe it's true Ah, sugar Ah, honey, honey You are my candy girl And you got me wanting you Oh, honey.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Ah, sugar, sugar. You are my candy girl. And you got me wanting you. When I kissed your girl, I knew how sweet a kiss could be. I knew how sweet a kiss could be. Pick it up your butt. Like the summer sunshine, pour your sweetness over me. Pour your sweetness over me.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Pour your sweetness over me. You're old lady. Pour a little sugar on me, honey. Pour a little sugar on me, baby. I'm gonna make your life so sweet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pour a little sugar on it. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Pour a little sugar on it, honey. Pour a little sugar on it, baby. I'm gonna make your life so sweet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pour a little joke honey honey you are my candy girl and you want me what you oh honey You.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Oh, honey. Sugar, sugar. You are my kid. By the way, I don't want to alarm anybody, but Ron hanged himself with his earphone cord. No, no, Jeff Barry just called the writer of the song, he jumped off a building. But it was a Brill building, if it makes you feel any better. We want to apologize to Andy Kim and to the great Jeff Barry. That's a classic rendition, though.
Starting point is 00:06:43 That is funny. I want a copy of that. I do. I love that. I'm kidding. I love that. Wasn't that something? And hey, these bonus episodes don't usually have sponsors, but I'm going to go ahead and say this one is brought to you by Tylenol.
Starting point is 00:07:00 That's going to help. When Tommy James came on the show, he brought with him the most beautiful sounding acoustic guitar I think I've ever heard. He and Jonathan Ash, his other guitarist, knocked out several tunes in that episode. My personal favorite was their version of Crystal Blue Persuasion in the booth. To me, it was almost better than the original. It was really wonderful and uh and just sounded great uh listener tim weisberg has a different take
Starting point is 00:07:29 this is tim and my favorite gilbert musical moment is when he sang i think we're alone now with tommy james which was probably the worst cover of the song since Tiffany. And unlike Tiffany, Gilbert's not allowed near any teenagers in the mall. Hey, Gil. Yeah. Why don't we, as long as we have the guitars here and we want to squeeze a couple of songs in, why don't we... Now, are we getting paid for this?
Starting point is 00:07:56 No. It's just like Gilbert's the new Morris Levy. Yeah, yeah. I'm still singing for my supper here. Now, can we do Moany Moany? Well, you want to do that one first? Yeah. Okay, why don't we do...
Starting point is 00:08:12 Do you want to sing Dragon and the Lion with me, or I think we're alone now? I'm Dragon and the Lion. He doesn't have the lyrics. He doesn't have the lyrics for Dragon and the Lion. How about I think we're alone? Okay. Well, do you want to do your song first? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Well, why don't we do I think You're Alone I Think We're Alone Now and Gilbert will join in. Okay. And then you guys can do two that are unmolested. Well, let's see. We're going to indulge Gilbert.
Starting point is 00:08:38 What do you think, Gil? Yes. Children behave! There you go. That's what they say when we're together. And watch how you play! No publishing on this. They don't understand.
Starting point is 00:08:59 And so we're running just as fast as we can. Stay with him, Gil. Holding on to one another's hand. Trying to get away into the night. And then you put your arms around me and tumble to the ground. And then you say, I think we're alone now. There doesn't seem to be anyone around. I think we're alone now The beating of our hearts is the only sound
Starting point is 00:09:33 Look at the wave Wait a minute. Hold on. Look at the wave We gotta hide what we're doing Cause what would they say If they only knew And so we're running just as fast as we can
Starting point is 00:09:57 Holding on to one another's hand Trying to get away into the night. And then you put your arms around me as we tumble to the ground. And then you say, I think we're alone now. There doesn't seem to be anyone around. I think we're alone now. The beating of our hearts is the only sound I...
Starting point is 00:10:30 Just hold your horses. Okay. I think we're alone now There doesn't seem to be anyone around I think we're alone now The beating of our hearts is the only sound I think we're alone now There doesn't seem to be anyone around
Starting point is 00:10:58 Not bad. Yeah. Eat your heart out, Tiffany. This is very spontaneous. You do know that. Wow, we appreciate the way you carried him there, Tom. Well, thank you. I thought I was carrying you.
Starting point is 00:11:16 You want to join and get a tambourine? You got a gig. Yes. We will return to Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast after this. Baseball is finally back. Get in on Major League action and swing for the fences with BetMGM, the king of sportsbooks. Log in or sign up to play along as BetMGM brings the real-time action.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Embrace a season's worth of swings with BetMGM, your one-stop shop for all things baseball. BetMGM.com for T's and C's. 19 plus to wager. Ontario only. Gambling problem? Call Connex Ontario at 1-866-531-2600. BetMGM operates pursuant to an operating agreement
Starting point is 00:11:58 with iGaming Ontario. That's the sound of fried chicken with a spicy history. Thornton Prince was a ladies' man. To get revenge, his girlfriend hid spices in his fried chicken. He loved it so much, he opened Prince's Hot Chicken. Hot chicken in the window. This is one of many sounds in Tennessee with a story to tell. To hear them in person, plan your trip at
Starting point is 00:12:25 tnvacation.com. Tennessee sounds perfect. I just want to address Tim's comment, in fairness to Gilbert. It's not all malls, it's just certain states. And it's not that he can't be near teenagers, he just can't be alone with them as the song would suggest what's interesting is that not all the moments people suggested were music moments or musician moments like this one for example jackie dotson here acp superfan and my favorite acp musical moment was dueling Paul Williams with John Biner. Now, we had one of the guests we've had on the show was the great songwriter and entertainer, Paul Williams. Yes, indeed.
Starting point is 00:13:18 I started imitating Paul Williams. Yeah. And he said the two people now that imitate him are me and you. He said the two people now that imitate him are me and you. It's nice to know that there's someone I can turn to who will always care. You're always there. And you're getting over that rainbow when your wildest dreams won't come true. Your wildest dreams won't come true. That's fantastic, right? I've got the madness the world has to give,
Starting point is 00:13:52 but I wouldn't ask to deal without you. Phenomenal. Can we do a duet of Rainbow Connection? Oh, I don't know the words. Oh, oh. I can harmonize. Okay. How about Rainy days and Mondays? Do you know that one?
Starting point is 00:14:06 Rainy days and Mondays always get me down. Talking to myself and feeling old. I'm feeling old. Sometimes I'd like to quit. I'd like to quit. Nothing ever seems to fit. I don't give a shit. Up and around, nothing to do but frown.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Rainy days and Mondays always get me down. Why are there so many songs about rainbows? And what's on the other side? Hilarious. He's sick, this guy. Hilarious. Oh, we got to play that. We got to send that to Paul. I like to hear him say that.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Hello. What a simple way to start a love affair. Should I jump right in and see how much I care? I don't know this stuff. I used to make, we were on Hollywood Squares together, I'd make up a song and say... John, when... When Paul wins, blah, blah, blah. When he goes to the store, blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:15:52 When I go to the store blah blah blah when i go in the store i look i see you on the counter and how do you do he said and he yelled down hey do when i wrote then i can get some money back when jimmy webb showed up for his episode uh we were told right off the bat that he was tired he'd been doing interviews all day uh he didn't have a lot left in him and it ended up being one of the most frenzied energetic and hilarious episodes in a while full of great music he played happily at the piano in the booth and endured Gilbert's singing. Really some great moments to go back and revisit, like this one. Hi, my name is Andrew LaPosha from St. Louis, Missouri,
Starting point is 00:16:33 and I thought Gilbert's rendition of MacArthur Park was even better than the Richard Harris version. Seriously. I was going to wait until the end of the show. You're going to torture the guy? Yes. Didn't you just hear him say he was in mourning? Now I feel like fucking.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Why have sympathy toward another human being? Can we sing a duet of MacArthur Park? Well, I guess. I'm just going We'll just do the chorus, alright? Alright, Gil Okay, so you take the melody We can't do Spring Was Never Waiting for a Spring Why not?
Starting point is 00:17:16 I like that part Fuck you, Jimmy I'm only gonna to do the chorus. Okay. Let me find the chorus like I don't know it. Okay. Where's your note? This one?
Starting point is 00:17:33 He doesn't have a note. You obviously have never heard me sing before. Should I just start playing then? Okay. Give him a cue. MacArthur Park is melting in the dark All the sweet green icing's flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it
Starting point is 00:18:10 Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no Oh, no! Oh, no! Fantastic. Fantastic. You are a brave soul, Jim. Yeah, I knew it was going to be good, though. I just loved it as a moment where Jimmy Webb clearly just gave up trying to sing along.
Starting point is 00:19:04 I just love that there's a moment where Jimmy Webb clearly just gave up trying to sing along. But at least he's able to be present musically and alter the rhythm to suit Gilbert in real time. Not an easy task. In fact, not having a musical instrument makes it even more of a challenge, as this clip, suggested by listener Brian Stacey, or Stacey, sorry if I'm butchering your name, would suggest. Hey guys, Brian here. My favorite moment of Musical Guest was when Gilbert dueted with Dick Van Dyke
Starting point is 00:19:30 on supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I grew up enjoying Dick Van Dyke's movies and singing, and I guess somewhat inappropriately had a Gilbert stand-up and movie roles, so to hear the two of them together was fantastic. I really enjoyed it. Anyway, thanks for all the great work. Hey, can I torture you
Starting point is 00:19:50 some more? And sing a little bit of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Is this your singing debut? Yes! No, Dick, he sings on every episode I've sadly sung on other shows
Starting point is 00:20:08 He does Okay Oh, you can see without the Oh, here I'm looking like I never sung the words before It's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough, you always sound precocious.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Then you got to go. Um-di-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da because I was afraid to speak when I was just a lad. My father gave me nose a tweak and told me I was bad. But then one day I learned a word that saved me a nose. The biggest word I ever heard. And this is how it goes. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious.
Starting point is 00:21:09 If you say it loud enough, you always sound precocious. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Um-da-lilly, um-da-lally. Um-da-lilly, um-da-lally. Actually, you have to go up a half, too. Um-da-lilly, um-da-lally. Itda-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da- The Dukes and Rogers pass the time of day with me. I say my special word and then they toss me out to tea. That was good, Cockney, wasn't it? Not bad.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Yeah, do the rest, Cockney. Not bad at all. I can't. Yeah. Where are we? Yes, here. You know, the... Even though the sound of it
Starting point is 00:22:04 is something atrocious, if you say it loud enough, you always sound precocious, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Oh, you can't say it, but... But when the cat got your tongue, there's no need for the smile. Just sum it up this word, and then you got a lot to say.
Starting point is 00:22:21 That's the best I can do. That's better than I did in the movie, though. Maybe I can go in and dub the best I can do. That's better than I did in the movie, though. Maybe I could go in and dub the whole movie, do you think? That podcast moment was proof that dreams do come true. That was hilarious to watch over Skype and thoroughly
Starting point is 00:22:40 enjoyable to listen to. Other people's dreams are simpler, like maybe you're a real big fan of Paul Schaeffer and you want to hear Green Onions, like listener Rob Smentek. Hey Frankie, a highlight of this show, if not my life,
Starting point is 00:22:56 was when Paul Schaeffer played a little bit of Green Onions inspired by my listener mail question. I got a couple of questions here, Gil, through social media from our listeners that I want to ask the boys if we have a... As Gilbert swings with ease.
Starting point is 00:23:11 As Gilbert swings. Social media. He's uncouth. Here's one for you, Paul. This is from Rob Smentek. How do they know he's going to be on? I told them. He wants to know, hip hugger or green onions?
Starting point is 00:23:24 Oh, well, green onions. Green onions. Yes, of course. Okay. That was the, you know, the one that broke Booker T and the MGs, and it's a magical little etude, almost, of R&B that was absolutely magic. And hip-hugger is great, too, but just a follow-up. What is hip-hug?
Starting point is 00:23:43 What was that? I don't remember that. Here's hip-hugger. Well, here, but just to follow it. What is hip-hug? What was that? I don't remember that. Here's hip-hugger. Well, here's Green Onions. Oh, yeah. Of course. Every band in high school played that. Dory Sherry.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Dory Sherry. To Big Steve and Dory. And the other one is this. Ice skating. Put your hip huggers on. Right, that's it. I remember now. Yep, yep. Paul.
Starting point is 00:24:15 Put your hip huggers on. Just a little Personality. Just a little patience and prudence. Put your hip huggers on And you throw A baby leather on. Right. A little patience and prudence. Yeah, Pug is on and you told her. Baby, let it on, right? A little patience and prudence?
Starting point is 00:24:27 Going to get along without you? Yeah, I didn't go over the last time. Get along, get along. I'm going to get along without you. Thank you, thank you. That's a good song. I'm going to it all without you. Beautiful.
Starting point is 00:24:48 Thank you. Nice. That's one of my wife's favorite songs. Kathy Bidus. Kathy is here with us. That was completely self-indulgent, and that's what this is all about. That was a fun moment. And I'm going to be self-indulgent and say my favorite musical moment by far
Starting point is 00:25:04 was Tony Orlando singing Tie Yellow Ribbon with Gilbert, Frank, and then later Dara. That was a highlight. I think it was one of our first big musical moments. And that's how we'll wrap this episode up. Enjoy. Let's start. And I'll give you the cue when to start. Like, like, yeah. Go. to start. Like, yeah. Go.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Take your time. Okay, baby. You're coming up any second now. Go for it, Gilbert. I'm coming home. I've done my time. Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine.
Starting point is 00:25:45 If you receive my letter telling you I should be free, then you'll know just what to do if you still want me. Get to it! If you still want me. Oh, I'm so impressed. Tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree. It's been three long years. Do you still want me?
Starting point is 00:26:11 Let me sing for a minute. If I don't see a ribbon round the old oak tree, I'll stay on the bus, forget about us, put the blame on me. Go ahead, if I don't see a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree Why am I sounding like you? Okay, come on Bus driver, please look for me Cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see.
Starting point is 00:26:46 I'm really still in prison. Can they tell who to? A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free. I wrote her a total of three. Okay, but it's on you now. Courage, go ahead. I'm the old oak tree. Tire rimmed around the old oak tree. Tire rimmed around the old oak tree.
Starting point is 00:27:13 Tire rimmed around the old oak tree. Tire rimmed around the old oak tree. Just get on the bus. Forget about us. Put the blame on me. I know why she nailed you, she sings like you too. Go yellow and round the old, old street. A hand for Gilbert.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Yes, sir. This was a first. Show business. Wow. Wow. That's you, Gil. That was Dara singing it to me. It's not quite Tell Me, Joyce.
Starting point is 00:27:57 You know, I haven't had more fun. Thank you for inviting me to this show. I mean, I haven't had this much fun. I don't even know when. Seriously. We have fun. Don't you have fun doing this radio show? Yes. I'm going to this much fun. I don't even know when. Seriously. We have fun. Don't you have fun doing this radio show? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:11 I'm going to tell you something, and I mean it. This is the same thing I told Dick Van Dyke. He sang Dick Van Dyke. I sang two duets with him, Put on a Happy Face and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Oh, that must have been something. Yes. And I'm telling you the same thing I told Dick Van Dyke. I think I just came. Listen up now If you want to know about
Starting point is 00:28:54 By Beyonce's soup Or Long Train and Junior It's something we're used to Colossal obsessions These things that we've studied Like why Groucho helped Chico Cause he needed the money If you have a comment
Starting point is 00:29:22 On Cesar Romero? And those oranges thrown by those young caballeros? You can ask what you want, anything on our bits But please keep it short, just like having finishes. Listener man. Listener man. Yeah, we'll answer your questions And that is a promise
Starting point is 00:30:12 Even the ones About Danny Thomas Listen up, man Listener Mail Listener Mail Listen to me Listen to me Listen Amir Listen Amir Listen Amir Listen Amir Listen now Listen now
