Give it up, Frank! Colossal Obsessions! Give it up, Frank! Colossal Obsessions! Hi, this is Gilbert Gottfried, and I'm here with my co-host Frank Santopadre, and this is Gilbert and Frank's Amazing Colossal Obsessions. It is, dammit. And who's with us? Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Kevin Daugherty. Kevin Daugherty. Our old friend. And Darryl Mayeski. Hey. Was he close? He was good. You like And Darryl Mayeski. Hey. Was he close? He was good. You like Mayeski or Mayeski?
Starting point is 00:01:48 You know, it doesn't matter as long as my name is pronounced. Owner and publisher of Scream Magazine. The terrific Scream Magazine. That's Scream with two E's. Yes, which I don't miss. And Kevin. Kevin, that's me. Is our old friend.
Starting point is 00:02:02 Kevin has been on the show before quizzing us. Yes. Giving us Gilbert Gottfried Amazing Colossal Podcast trivia. Kevin also made a nice video for us. Oh, thank you. It's on YouTube. Did you put a title on that thing? Orange Wedges and Glass Coffee Tables. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:16 I have no idea what that means. It's an inside joke. I'll explain it to you later. Yeah. Gee, I have no idea. And you are also, you're a longtime friend of the show. Yes. And you are also still in the process of working with our wonderful friend, Drew Friedman.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Drew Friedman, who has a new book coming out in October. He does. All the Presidents, which is pretty self-explanatory. We'll be bringing his ass back for that. Yes. And the doc is in the final. We're in post-production. Let's just say that. The Vermeer of the Borscht Belt.
Starting point is 00:02:47 And can I just jump for a second? No. We got. Did you see this tweet that we got? And I forget the guy's name. You'll have to look it up for me. Okay. I'll do it at the end.
Starting point is 00:03:02 The guy of. He printed up a dog food package. Oh, I'll do it at the end. The guy of, he printed up a dog food package. Oh, it's Ralph Castaneda. Yes. Jacqueline Bissett dog food. Do you listen to the mini episodes? Yes.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Actually, that was a full episode. Jacqueline Bissett knows what dogs like to eat. Yeah, that's a guy, that's an artist named Ralph Castaneda and he does, or Castaneda.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Yeah. And he does, no relation to Carlos. Because according that's a guy, that's an artist named Ralph Castaneda, and he does, or Castaneda, and he does no relation to Carlos. Because according to one of our guests, a dog went down on Jacqueline Bishop. Never happened. Are we bleeping her name out? She's alive. She won't
Starting point is 00:03:38 do the show. Daryl, tell us a little bit about Screen Magazine, how you founded it, how long it's been around. It's a Bible. You know our our new issue has an article about how i was raised by pentecostal parents oh great and they hated everything and and living in uh this area where are you from originally originally from jersey from uh uh pasake patterson okay and so i was weaned with zacherly oh i've met so many times that was a loss for us to not have him here yeah great guy
Starting point is 00:04:06 and and uh whenever my parents would go into another room i'd put zacherly on or we had creature features on wnw and so yeah i was into that stuff at the age of five and i guess there there comes a time where you go i'm a fan and now i'm a historian. Yeah, you are both. You grow up with these movies and they leave such an impression on you that it never goes away. And it's just a constant love. And then you publish a magazine and you get good people like Drew Friedman, who did one of our covers. Yes, he's a fan. And Mark Maddox, who does a lot of our covers, is a Rondo Award winner. We just won a Rondo
Starting point is 00:04:47 Award for Best Interview. We did one with Elvira, so we're really proud of that. A Rondo Award. It's a shame they're not giving them out to podcasts because I think we would qualify for a Rondo Award. Yes. We could submit you, probably. Would you? Yes. We just had, for God's sake, we just had the last living actor
Starting point is 00:05:03 from The Son of Frankenstein on the show. Oh, yeah, there you go. If that doesn't qualify us for a runner. And Daryl and I met at Chiller. That's right. He came up to me in the, what do they call that, the merch area? Yep. And he said, oh, I'm such a fan of the podcast.
Starting point is 00:05:17 And I was so flattered because I'm a longtime fan of the magazine. It's a funny thing about Rondo Hatton and kids like us who are raised on monster movies that we were little kids who knew about acromegaly. And found it hilarious. Well, I think Drew's book helped. There's a bio coming out, too, of Rondo Hatton. He just did the cover for it. Yes, The Heartbreak of Acromegaly. Yeah, wow. out to of rondo hatton he did just did the cover for yes and the heartbreak of acromegaly yeah wow yeah okay so they have teamed up the esteemed daryl mayeski and the uh incomparable kevin dardy have teamed up i have no idea what this is about we don't know they said kevin reached out
Starting point is 00:05:58 and he said hey let us come in and stump you guys and quiz you guys and we'll bring some fun stuff and that's all we know okay so like an audio daily double is that what they call it on jeopardy like uh yeah they used to all right so we got a bunch of audio uh clips of guests um former podcast guests podcast related people i'm excited people you'll i mean nothing here is too obscure um it's obscure but the you should be able to get most of these people. Let's try the first one, Mr. Verterosa. It's track number one.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Here we go. This is from 1966. And Johnny Beef Stew is here, too. I can't tell you the title. It kind of gives it away. Yeah, I know what this is. What's the move? Hi, kids. It's me, your pal
Starting point is 00:06:45 LaVoy Wonder. Oh, my God. We asked him about this. He admitted it? Even as a boy wonder, it's really hard to read all the time. Written by... I think Frank Zappa. Frank Zappa on
Starting point is 00:07:01 MGM Records. The B-side was Orange Colored Sky, which was also performed by Adam West on Hollywood Palace. Yes, I've seen Adam West perform Orange Colored Sky. How old was he? Was this in the height of Batman? Well, yeah, 65, 66, yeah. So he was... About 19 or 20.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Tom's the Batman expert. Johnny Beefstew, how old was Adam West? He says 19. Oh, a burnt word, yeah. Johnny Beefsteel, how old was Adam West? He says 19. Oh, a good word, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's good. So all of these have a connection to podcasts. Most of them.
Starting point is 00:07:31 And some of them are people who haven't been here, but some of them are people, most of them are people who would be within the broader podcast persons of interest. I like this. Bert's getting a star on the Walk of Fame. Yes. I guess you guys saw that.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Yeah, yeah. Why don't you tell us about the star on the Walk of Fame. Yes! I guess you guys saw that. Yeah. Why don't you tell us about the second one we got? The song is called I Can Feel Him Moving. Yes, number two. And it's a religious number. That's what Dara said on their wedding night. This one takes a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:02 We should talk this up like a DJ because it doesn't come in for like 30 seconds. Give it a ramp. Ladies and gentlemen, here we come. From 1975. On Savoy Records. Moving on the altar of my heart. Every hour.
Starting point is 00:08:23 You ain't working too hard on this one. The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. Damn. He leadeth me beside the still water. Damn, damn. This is the first time I've ever jerked off.
Starting point is 00:08:46 To a gospel song? Yeah, damn. This is the first time I've ever jerked off. To a gospel song? Yeah, yeah. Except for those Mahalia Jackson. Anybody? Yeah. Wait a second. Now I'm going to get a hard-on every time I open the Bible. And he's in a lot of hotel rooms.
Starting point is 00:09:02 This singer has never been on the show. I think it's, I'm going to take a wild guess. Is it Nichelle Nichols? No, it is Esther Rolle. Oh my God. Damn, damn, damn. Okay, so if they haven't been on the show directly, there's a connection. There's a connection, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Well, that was very good. That was Esther Rolle? What's the backstory on that? It's a gospel album. there's a connection. There's a connection, yeah. Wow. Well, that was very good. That was Esther Rowe. What's the backstory on that? There's a gospel album. It's pretty generic. She doesn't really work real hard on it. No, no. There's like a 50-second intro, and she just sort of pitches in there when she feels like it.
Starting point is 00:09:39 That's Florida Evans. Yeah. How about that, Gil? Wow. Now do you feel weird about being turned on by uh by esther roll well no i always used to masturbate watch and in fact when i came i would scream out dynamite in fairness he's aroused by egg rolls. It's true. It's true. Wow, that was a good stumper.
Starting point is 00:10:08 I like how you set us up. You gave us the easy one. You lured us in with Burt Ward, and then you punched us right in. Oh, the dynamics. A lot of prep on this. I love this. I come in pre-produced. You guys.
Starting point is 00:10:19 All right, track number three. This has got to be easy. I think this is a fairly recent one. Multi-time, multi-appearance guest. Okay. Track three. Okay. This is a guy from Trenton. Hello, Robbie.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Hello. Welcome home, Mr. Yeah, we know who that is. What is this? I'll tell you. I don't think Gil does. He helps us book the show, Gil. It's addressed to Mrs. Goldstein.
Starting point is 00:10:44 What a co-op, what a lobby. Every slob is acting snobby. But you take a tip from Robbie. You should tip your doorman. He brings used food to poker night. He brings what? Used food to poker night. What slip up the lip is scary.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Richard Kahn. Yes, it's Richard Kahn. This is former bangers. You didn't have to ask twice. This is from a documentary now. Have you seen documentary now? Sure. Yeah, this is from what was called Co-op,
Starting point is 00:11:16 which is a parody of D.A. Pennebaker's documentary about what was it? Oh, Sondheim. Was John Mulaney involved in this? John Mulaney wrote the lyrics. John Mulaney and Seth this? John Mulaney wrote the lyrics. John Mulaney and Seth Meyers wrote that song. Yes, I ran into them both together at Ricky Jay's memorial service.
Starting point is 00:11:31 And they said, look out for this thing. And I missed it. And now you guys have brought me up to speed. Richard's a genius. It's so funny and it's so not jokey, but it's hilarious. They're committed to it. He's committed to it. He's not like, he even said not jokey, but it's hilarious. You know, they're committed to it. He's committed to it.
Starting point is 00:11:46 He's not like, he even said like, he's not playing it for laughs, but it's so fucking hilarious. It's amazing. They do a great job with that. Funny man and versatile. I mean, he can do anything, Richard. God bless him. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:56 I'm going to send this to him. He'll get a kick out of this. He yelled at me once because. Why? Because I said, uh, you know, that guy who's friends with George Clo clooney i described him that way in the podcast he's the greatest still in my life and then the next time he was on he was talking about me he goes that fucking guy you're talking about wait a minute wait a minute that fucking guy that fucking guy here's my favorite thing about richard he's telling me how much he loves the show he sends he's he's been so encouraging and such a support to us he
Starting point is 00:12:21 sends an email every couple of weeks and and the best thing was that time we had to talk to him, and he was going to call in, but he was on a plane. Yes, yes, yes. So good. That was hilarious. I'm there talking about blowjob. God, with Mario. Getting fucked in the ass.
Starting point is 00:12:39 And he said, like, everybody on the plane is listening. Sorry, it didn't make it into the episode, but I sent you guys on the plane is listening. So it didn't make it into the episode, but I sent you guys on the side that whole moment, but I enhanced his audio so you could actually hear. Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. And you could hear the people on the plane. Oh, geez.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Oh, okay. Is this bothering you? Everyone in the back can hear it. Oh, geez. He says to me, I love the show. I'm not paying for the mini episode. He goes, fuck you. Because Gilbert wouldn't pay if it was me.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Let me tell you. I said, you got me there, Rich. When I remember, I usually send him a link to the minis. You do? I do. Oh, good. That's nice of you. He does a lot for the show.
Starting point is 00:13:14 I don't remember all the time, but every now and then I'll send him a bunch of minis so he can have them. He has a great quote about Frank in the Orange Wedges thing on YouTube. He says, what does he call you? He calls you a sheep herder or something? Yeah, yeah. He pushes him back in. Gilbert gets out of control? He calls you a sheep herder or something? Yeah, yeah. He pushes them back in. Gilbert gets out of control. Hey, Ralph, I'm back in.
Starting point is 00:13:29 That's me. I'm a fucking border collie. He says, I'm a fucking border collie. Yes. Okay. This is fun. Okay. Our next song is an actress.
Starting point is 00:13:37 What do we say about this? Yeah. She's been here. She's been here. Yes. All right. Here we go. Let's hear it.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Her only record, I think, was a seven-inch. Was it? I know what this is. I'm going to let Gilbert guess. It was a seven-inch. Then it became a nine-inch. Easy. You can hear her.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Two guests are connected to this song. I'll tell you how. Oh. That's why we can't give you the name. The B-side of this was called Max. I didn't want to go that obvious. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 00:14:22 That was 99. Now, who else is this connected to? Former guest. Not former guest. Yeah. Right. That was 99. That was the eighth song. Now, who else is this connected to? Former guest, not former guest, previous guest, Charles Fox. Oh. Conducted this. Really? Conducted this session. Wow.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Yeah. That was a great episode. We brought it. Wasn't he great? Yeah, he's really something. Gilbert was so happy. I got to sing two songs from Zapped with Charlie Fox. Did you hear that one, Darren? I did not.
Starting point is 00:14:47 You have to hear it. I didn't even know Zapped was his. I was amazed. Yes. His fingers are in everything, man. He did a lot of things. That was a turning point job for him because somebody who was present said, you know, you ought to write film scores.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Yeah. And I think through that, he got the job on Barbarella. Yeah. If I'm not mistaken. And he said like- the incident, maybe. The only people familiar with the score to zap are me and the Philippines. And Scott Baio's mom. Scott Baio's mom.

Play at games.circlek.com or at participating Circle K stores. All right, we got another one for you. This is a classic. This is a good one. This should be a very easy one to get. This is Epic Records 1980. The album is called Children of the World.
Starting point is 00:16:34 The Time is Now. The song is number five called When a Child is Born. I don't know if you'll recognize the voice, but it's not Johnny Matthews. Yeah. Yeah, well... Gil, this shouldn't stop you. All right. Oh, my God!
Starting point is 00:17:06 Oh, my God! Oh my God! Way up high in the sky. Here's some trivia. This was produced by Bill Justice. You know who Bill Justice is? Can't say I do. He had a song called Raunchy. You know Raunchy.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I must. I don't know Bill Justice.orge harrison favorite of 1960s they used to have hervey villages on all the shows singing diana shore mostly yeah mike douglas uh merv griffin he was on merv he did why do people have to fight i use that oh yes that's why do people have to fight i use used that as a sign-off on the last Ron Friedman episode. That might be the same album. It was some sort of charity song. But he sounds a little bit like Eartha Kitt, I have to say. Am I wrong?
Starting point is 00:17:58 Way hotter, though. I am Catwoman. I will get you, Batman. Even though I am a very sexy Catwoman. Talk about a weird boner. I can just see him
Starting point is 00:18:16 with the little cat ears on now. I can't get that out of my head now. That's really disturbing. Poor Irv. Who's up? This is yours. You know this song? Well, this guy has never been a guest. No, but he's... He's been mentioned a ton of times.
Starting point is 00:18:31 He's never not mentioned. He's been mentioned a shit ton. A shit ton of times. Alright, go ahead. A remake of a famous film from 1927. I know what this is. Oh, I'm sorry. I know what this is. We'll hear mine closer, Kevin. Oh, I'm sorry. I know what this is.
Starting point is 00:18:52 This is from Bar Mitzvah. It's... You know, the funny thing is, is you're really close on one level. Gil, if you don't get this, we'll table it. He's not really a singer. Is he a singer? No, but he did a Christmas record.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Oh, he did? Yes, he did. He did a Christmas album. See, Daryl knows this shit. I think he's one of those guys who usually knows a comic who sang in his act. Yeah, like Jack Carter. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Lewis Cholm.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Yeah. It's got a real hook, Gilbert. It's what they would call almost like a hooker. Yeah. Oh, jeez. I heard his last album was shitty, and it really dropped. Oh, wait. Danny Thomas?
Starting point is 00:19:44 Yes, Danny Thomas. Danny Thomas? Yes, Danny Thomas. Danny Thomas? This is Danny Thomas doing Hushabye, which is from the jazz singer. The remaker. He remade the jazz singer. Oh, yes, I know that.
Starting point is 00:19:53 And he's not even a Jew, right? Yes, he's an Arab. He's an Arab. Oh, yeah, yeah. Lebanese. Yeah, see, this is his revenge on the Jews. Is he Lebanese, like Jamie Farr?
Starting point is 00:20:03 I think he is. Yeah, I think he is. Yeah, I think he is. Yeah, I believe so. Wow, how about that? God bless him. Okay. You guys have done yeoman work here. Number seven.
Starting point is 00:20:14 I can't tell you the name of the song because that's another dead giveaway. This is a guy who's been on the show. I saw him at the East Coast Comic Con a couple weeks ago. Anytime you're ready. the East Coast Comic Con a couple weeks ago. Anytime you're ready. This song was also sampled by Fall Out Boy recently, or part of this song.
Starting point is 00:20:31 It's kind of in a punk rock vein. Yeah. This is not it. No, this is it. This is a weird, it's got a weird intro. Oh, this is it? Yeah. It scared me. This is it.
Starting point is 00:20:40 There we go. It was also done by the Coma Teens in 1979. A British band. This is it. There we go. It was also done by the Comatines in 1979. A British band. Well, it sounds like that, man. Sounds like the Munsters.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Oh! Yeah. Yeah. It's called Whatever Happened To Eddie. Eddie. Oh, yes. Yeah, I've heard this one. We talked about this with Butch. Yeah. It's not Butch Patrick. It's Eddie and the Monsters with an O, not the Munsters.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Right, right. It's on Rockshire Records in 1983, and there's a video for it on YouTube. Did Butch have anything to do with this? No, it's him. Oh, it's him. They licensed the original, I forgot who wrote the Munsters track, but they licensed the theme song, on YouTube someplace. Did Butch have anything to do with this? No, it's him. Oh, it's him. It's him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Okay. They licensed the original, I forgot who wrote the Monsters track, but they licensed the theme song. Right. And they just wrote lyrics to it. I think, boy, that original Monsters song, when you hear a good version of it,
Starting point is 00:21:37 when you don't hear one of those sound-alikes, those sound-alike records, that is really good. Jack Marshall? Yes, I think so, yes. It was also, like I said, it was also sampled in a Fall Out Boy song that was a big hit like two years ago. Song called Uma Thurman, if you want to get mixed up in
Starting point is 00:21:50 meta. I'm enjoying this. The Munsters actually did an album with the whole cast singing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was called At Home with the Munsters. Yeah, I think we played something from that. Yes. On a mini episode. And Milton DeLugg actually did it. Milton DeLugg again. And his band with a thug. David Yazbeck is the biggest Milton DeLugg actually did it. Milton DeLugg again. And his band with a thug.
Starting point is 00:22:05 David Yazbeck is the biggest Milton DeLugg fan that you will ever meet. He may be the only Milton DeLugg fan left. He loves some Milton DeLugg. Okay, the next one. Who's up? You? This is a famous song.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Oh, okay. Once again, somebody else who's never been on the show but has talked about a gazillion times. Famous song. You know the song. Oh. Yeah, I think I got it. Gilbert's going to slap himself when he realizes.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Gil, you have to know this. Splat. Come on, Gil. Aren't you going to get it? Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Well, this song has a lot of juice. It's sad when the listeners are 40 minutes ahead of Gilbert on the guessing. I can vitamin C why this was a big hit.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Where did you guys dig this up? This, he had an album. He had an album. Everybody from 1955 to 1968 put out an album of something. I really think this should be the new theme. Yeah. Of the Colossal Obsessions? Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Yes. Let's go down. Who put out records that shouldn't have put out records, besides people on this list? There's the Jackie Gleason instrumental record. Sure. Those were big sellers. Those were legit.
Starting point is 00:23:42 But Robert Mitchum's Calypso album. Yes, I remember that one. These are not Chris Chappan bits either. These are actual albums. Anthony Quinn. Yeah. Sebastian Cabot did a Dylan album. He did.
Starting point is 00:23:53 He did. And Nimoy. And there's a bunch of them. Oh, that Golden Throat stuff that Drew used to do. Yeah. There's a bunch. Okay. We're on track number nine.
Starting point is 00:24:02 This is a song. This is not a podcast guest or former guest. This is Columbia Records 1966. This is a song that Frank referenced in Frank's record collection. This is a little callback. Here's a man who leads
Starting point is 00:24:16 a life of danger. But who is it? Hang on, I know this. Everyone he meets, he's a stranger. I said it that night Yes I'm here to make your dreams come true You said you wanted to get a hold of it Yeah, because this is really bizarre
Starting point is 00:24:35 Is it Don Ho? No Oh, it's the Velvet Fog Yes He also did I can't remember what I said on previous shows He did Pretty Flamingo on this album Oh, it's the Velvet Fog. Yes. He also did... I can't remember what I said on previous shows. He did Pretty Flamingo on this album
Starting point is 00:24:49 and Red Rubber Ball, the Paul Simon song that Circle did. I love Pretty Flamingo. He's also done Mellow Yellow. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes. Wow. We got to hear a little more of that, Frank. Yes, yes. A little more of Mel Torme.
Starting point is 00:25:03 He's making it his own. It kind of swings. It does. I'd say so. You know, some of his earlier songs, he had like an R&B thing going for a while
Starting point is 00:25:15 in the early 50s where it was pretty cool stuff. I still say Don Ho should cover it. I like this. Me too. Me too. Me too. Well produced.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Who used to do them on Second City? Was it Rick Moranis? Probably. Yeah, he used to do the Star Spangled Banner. I remember Rick Moranis doing Perry Como.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Perry Como, okay. Perry Como is still alive. That was pretty damn good. I wonder if that was Wrecking Crew musicians. It might have been. West Coast. West Coast. West Coast.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Yeah. Real good stuff. This next one is, you can have this one. This next one is probably the worst song I've ever heard. The guy listens to the show so closely. He sat down and he mapped this out based on things I said 20 episodes ago. I just read the closed caption. You got to respect Kevin Daugherty.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Yes. The song was written by Shel Silverstein. Okay, well, then I'm going to know it. Okay, let's hear it. I'm a Shel fan. You will not know this song, but you will know it's two people. Oh, daddy, what if the sun stopped shining? Two people who can't fucking sing to save their lives.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Gilbert and me. If the sun stopped shining, you'd be so surprised. I know what this is. You'd stare up at the heavens with wide open eyes. Do I guess or do I wait for Gilbert to catch up? Don't get him angry. Don't get him angry. Don't get him angry. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:46 It's from a TV series. It's two actors who starred together in a primetime series on ABC. Matt, this is important. That's the one. So who are the singers? Bill Bixby. And... The immortal Brandon Cruz.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Future lead singer of the Dead Kennedys. Seriously. And didn't he have something to do with South Park? I don't know. Brandon Cruz. But he took over the late era Dead Kennedys when Jello Biafra left. He's like 45. He became the singer of a punk band.
Starting point is 00:27:21 What is the name of this Shel Silverstein? I can't believe this is Shel Silverstein. This is called Daddy What If and he previously recorded it. He became the singer of a punk band. What is the name of this Shel Silverstein? I can't believe this is Shel Silverstein. This is called Daddy What If, and he previously recorded it. This is the B-side to Best Friend, which is... Harry Nielsen. But Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz do a version of Best Friend, which is completely unlistable. Oh, I got to hear it now.
Starting point is 00:27:41 It's number... I brought it along as a bonus track if you want to hear it. Yeah, let's hear the bonus track. Number 20, Mr. Verderossa. Oh, Jordy Bay. He's got a calliope in. People didn't tell you about my best friend. A warm-hearted person.
Starting point is 00:28:02 Poor Bill Bixby wasn't a singer. Why? Yeah. People didn't tell you about my best friend. I'm picturing J.P. wasn't a singer. Why? Yeah. I'm picturing J.P. Morgan with a gun. Well, you know, the Nielsen song was a repurposed Nielsen song. Yes, they changed the lyrics, right? Yeah. But Bill Bixby, what a great actor and what a...
Starting point is 00:28:22 Terrible singer. Yeah. Also starred on Broadway in Bruce J. Friedman's Steam Bath. He did, in fact. Yes. And in the PBS, or whatever that was. And an accomplished director. And that was very early TV nudity.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Yes, that was everybody's first... Yeah. If you're of a certain age. Valerie Perrine. Quick trivia that won't stump you guys. What's the Bill Bixby series that lands between the courtship of Eddie's father and the Hulk? The Magician. Very good.
Starting point is 00:28:48 Very good. I love The Magician. All that exists apparently on YouTube is the credits, but it had a really good theme song. It's one of those theme songs. You'll hear the theme song and you'll go, oh, I remember that. That is cool. But all he ever did was, I mean, this is a visual medium, so he would just like throw his, throw a curtain up and he disappeared.
Starting point is 00:29:03 It wasn't very effective. He did have a Corvette, though. I remember that. We're Bill Bixby fans here. Our next track is a duet. A duet. It is a Carly Simon cover. This was on a major record label, London Records.
Starting point is 00:29:19 I know this one, too. How do you like my new scar? It's an easy one. Who is this song about? That was always the question. Let's see if Gilbert can guess who's singing. I put this on Facebook before. Oh, did you?
Starting point is 00:29:30 Yeah. Why not? Because I just told you, I'm the only one who can wear apricot. You walked into my party like you were walking onto a yacht. What? Your hat strategically dipped below one eye. Your scarf, it was a good watch. Africa.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Yes, Africa. You had one eye in the mirror. Come on, Gil, I've played this for you. As you watched yourself gavotte. Gavotte. And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner. They'd be your partner and you're so vain. What are you saying?
Starting point is 00:30:12 What are you talking about? You probably think this song is about you. You're so vain. It's sung by a couple. A couple? That's odd. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:30:24 I think you're going crazy. I don't know who the chorus is. Maybe it's somebody's ex-wife. The chorus could be the pigeons. The chorus is Al Molinara. It's Klugman and Randall doing Your So Bane. Yes, it is The Odd Couple Sings album
Starting point is 00:30:47 Gilbert looks like he was just stabbed Oh my god Gilbert do you smell burning toast He just made the face Oswald made when Ruby put the Headgun in his ribcage The rest of the album is Oh my god
Starting point is 00:31:02 You would think the album is all going to be like remakes and hits, but it's like the only recognizable song is this, you know, Is You're So Vain, which is obviously a hit for Carly Simon. Poor Carly Simon. Wow. That she hits... Somebody had to subject her to that. And who sings backup on the original Carly Simon version?
Starting point is 00:31:18 Do you know? Yeah, Mick Jagger. Yeah, it's so obvious when you hear it, but I never knew that for years. And when you hear it, you can't unhear Mick Jagger. It's almost a duet. It's an amazing thing. Well, of course, there that for years. And when you hear it, you can't unhear Mick Jagger. It's almost a duet. It's an amazing thing. Well, of course. There's been a mystery for decades about who it is.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Supposedly Beatty. It's about Gilbert. Yes. It could have been about Gilbert. Wow, that's... That's scary. I can't believe it took you so long. I can't believe they did a whole album.
Starting point is 00:31:40 They did an album. And a major label, London Records. That's really the only one that I know that I posted on Facebook. What else was on the LP? Oh no, that's what I was saying. It's just drivel. It's custom songs. It's probably just nothing there. They were going for the hit. So we're going to stop here and we're going to make, this is too much fun
Starting point is 00:31:55 and I don't want to cut you guys short. Oh, stop. I don't want to cut you off the knees because it's too much gold. So, we're going to stop here and we're going to plug next week's show. we're going to plug part two With Kevin Daugherty And Daryl, you want to try that one? Larry Mayeski
Starting point is 00:32:12 Larry Larry Larry How do you read Daryl And say Larry How do you Is it a new heart tribute? How do you read Daryl and say Larry? Howdy appointment, puffer. Is it a new heart tribute? Howdy.
Starting point is 00:32:27 All right, so we'll do the plugs in the next episode. We'll plug the magazine and we'll do all the other stuff. But it's so good that we have to bring you back next week. Otherwise, it's going to be a 55-minute mini episode. If nothing else, I want to hear that odd couple. You're so vain again. No, I'm leaving. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:32:46 I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. Sign us off. We'll come back. We'll make people wait a week. Gilbert and Frank's amazing colossal obsessions. Thank you, boys. Thank you, sirs. Wherever we go, whatever we do, we're gonna go through it together. We may not go far, but you're as a star. Wherever we are, it's together.
