Shout out LaMelo. What is LaMelo? See, he didn't even know his name. They were on Kai's Ending Stream last night. I'm not going to call him LaMelo. No, he's not on this show.
Starting point is 00:02:14 We're not allowed to call you that. This is Larry. Mama name LaMelo. That's coordination. On this side of the couch, we've got the distinguished gentleman from Oak Cliff, former number one pick, Canyon Martin back here with us. Wait for the what's happening.
Starting point is 00:02:35 I see it. Okay. What's happening, Mike? Got the theme music. And for all the fans out there, we still got two viewing options for our traditional version, mobile vertical version. Pick whichever one you want to watch watch just make sure you support the show here's what's cracking in the arena today after signing SGA to a super max the Thunder
Starting point is 00:02:52 are given Chet Holmgren a rookie max will report Jalen Williams has one coming soon can the Thunder sustain a championship level squad with their big three eating up all this cap space well I was gonna get some bread I don't know Bobby marks me as being seems to be under the pressure and they're gonna be good to go. We will see they got a bunch of picks. A lot of movement they can make. Current rookie deals. They ain't tripping them dudes locked up
Starting point is 00:03:14 for the next two, three years. They're good. The rest of y'all. No, but the dudes who they didn't pick, they already going to contract. That's real. That's real. Mike Brown is officially the Knicks head coach and reportedly plans to demote Rick Brunson on his coaching staff What impact will this have on the team moving forward?
Starting point is 00:03:36 On the head coaching part, oh you're happy for but I'm just like the head coaching part that was y'all picked though He got demoted boy. You look just like your dad I'm y'all pick got demoted I get it Your daddy is I was not worried about that one Angel Reese has been dominating on and off the court if she establishing herself as a superstar in the W She trademarked me bounds got the t-shirts going out, been a double-double machine this season, setting records.
Starting point is 00:04:09 But before we get into all that, as always, this show is brought to you by Underdog. Download the app, use promo code GIL, get up to $1,000 in bonus cash, plus a special pick-em. And we're back with another crew pack today. As a reminder, each member of our GILs arena crew has submitted a pick-em that we're combining to create our partner pack on the Underdog app.
Starting point is 00:04:24 We will tally up the individual picks. The guy with the highest percentage of accurate picks receive a large sum of underdog bread. Not to be confused with real bread, it's underdog bread. You can use it on the underdog app before we take our summer hiatus next week. So season coming up baby. We have the leaderboard. It has been updated. Kane, you are currently in the lead right now with six of seven correct so far going very hard on the Texas Rangers Yeah, baby, it's proven to be very beneficial. That's tattooing for nothing, man Oh, well your piece of the Texas Rangers man except the first I picked
Starting point is 00:04:53 Aaron judge had a homerun, but everything else I'm texting range, baby So Gil you are currently in second place with five of seven Brandon Rashad tie for third currently have four seven correct Swaggy P had had Asia Wilson last night she was injured so right now he has four six yes two picks today to catch up so the crew have picks on early games meaning we couldn't get them into the underdog app on time but we'll share those picks merely for tracking purposes obviously we're very competitive to make sure we keep everything going so Gil you had Aliyah Boston higher 22.5 points from rebounds Rashad you had Kaila Clark higher 8.5 assists. Canyon Adolas Garcia
Starting point is 00:05:28 again higher 0.5 hits. Yet again Brandon has Skyler Diggins higher 16.5 points and Swaggy P with the double header had Angel Reese higher 14.5 points and Eric Lauer higher 4.5 strikeouts. So Swaggy submitted two picks because of the Angel Wilson injury so we will see how his picks perform today We weren't able to get that graphic ready in time ladies and gentlemen But we wanted to let y'all know because we know y'all care But let's keep this thing moving if you can't which game which games hmm WNBA games. There was some early there, you know Give you a WNBA fan, you know before breakfast
Starting point is 00:06:03 Don't get out of bed before 2.30. 2, 2.30. Oh, god damn. Damn. They do the early games in the summertime so that kids in camps and stuff can go in big groups. Get the campers in there. Oh, before people wake up.
Starting point is 00:06:17 So they just put just. Somebody got to take the kids to camp. Because they're away. Not even before they wake up, just all these are the games that play. Cool. People live in the single life. So there's two games that's already played.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Okay. But, picks were submitted prior to those games being played. We keep things fair and square here in Gills Arena. If you can't watch this show live with us on YouTube, we have audio versions available on Apple, Spotify, wherever you get your podcasts. Yeah, y'all should just roll with Kenyon's picks. You can't, everybody can't take the same pick, right? No, they'll be all over the place.
Starting point is 00:06:46 You better find some consistency. So I lost. Okay, well. You already lost to them? Yeah. You put the L in Gil. So, looks like you... Wait, you shoot this pick, wait, what time was this at? What time did they play?
Starting point is 00:07:06 And that wasn't my pick either. The Indiana pick, what time was this game? Rashad, what was your pick? You didn't have Kailah Clark hire 8.5 assists? Nope. What was it? It was Angel Reese hire rebounds. Did she already hit it?
Starting point is 00:07:24 She ain't played yet. I don't think they played yet. Well, Jordan's 14 and a half. That was... 14 higher rebounds. Did she already hit it? She ain't played it yet. I don't think they played it yet. Which was 14 and a half. It was 14 and a half rebound? I saw that shit, I was like, damn. She's getting 17 to 19. Six straight games with 15 plus rebounds. WNBA records.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Six straight double doubles. What time was this fever game? Eight in the morning. Oh, my pick don't count then. This game was already fever game? 8 in the morning. Oh My big don't count then this game was already done before he already asked me for the other pick That's why that don't count. Yeah, y'all stay trying to finesse it John said change the shit to Angel Reese Okay, well, I'll let y'all dispute that with the good folks. Hold on, this game is fighting. Well, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I should have just looked at this. Hey, I'm going with that old, I'm saying that old sport, man. Listen, I have WNBA PC1. They cool, but I'm going to America's favorite past time. America's favorite past time, baby. I know black. All right. Well, let's keep this thing moving.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Talk about some basketball. SGA coming off the best season of his NBA career winning scoring title MVP Western Conference finals MVP finals MVP and bringing the Thunder their first chip in franchise history also agreed to a four year 285 million dollar Super Mac extension with OKC to make some the highest paid player in the league based on annual salary. Shea is also releasing its first signature shoot in a few months And he's got other things cracking as well as we can see right here Tuesday was announced He will be gracing the cover of NBA 2k26 first time in his career
Starting point is 00:08:54 SGA joins Angel Reese who was announced as the cover athlete for the WNBA edition and Mello who was on the cover of the superstar Edition of the game. Let's talk about SGA first, then we'll get to Angel in a second. So we talked about SGA's glow up. There's been a lot of discussion about face of the league. Obviously we had at length here in Gill's arena presented by underdog. But does this solidify SGA is the face of the league heading into next season? Yeah. Good answer.
Starting point is 00:09:23 I mean, we've said it a hundred times. Yes. So it's his league now. He's on the cover now. Welcome young fella. About to make his rounds on all the talk shows and shoe bottle drop. All the paint shop shows.
Starting point is 00:09:40 All the color waves. Nike, you're gonna put all that money behind. Converse. Nike gonna put all that money behind Converse, yeah. Yeah. Nike, you're gonna put all that money behind Converse. Converse, Larry Johnson, Jersey. Converse. Yeah, Nike, you gotta put all that money. Nike, you're gonna put all that money behind Converse. I see you over there in deep thought. No, he's facing NBA right now.
Starting point is 00:09:57 Why hasn't Joker been on the cover of 2K? Joker's not the most entertaining human being. Just asking the question. After he won the championship, it seemed that they put the guys who won the championship on the cover. Tatum was last year. I can't remember the year before that. Did not win finals MVP though.
Starting point is 00:10:23 So it was just kind of weird. Yannis and Joker never made the cover. Yeah, I don't have an answer for that. I'm surprised Yannis didn't make it because he has that personality that kids like. Well the question I really have is if Shea is the face of the league after doing what he's done who was the face of the league last year and the year before that is it a year-by-year thing? No it's the same persons. Same two people being in it for the last 20 some years. So he's now starting the first new wave. Oh Giannis was 2019. This is a new wave of
Starting point is 00:11:02 face of the year so he he's gotta take it. Well, I just think- Is he taking the reins? Now, we talked about after Lebron, Steph, and those guys moved on, but it seems like- Personally, I never paid attention to no Face of the League shit. I don't know what that shit is,
Starting point is 00:11:16 but it's just been guys who are more marketable than others. Or they just being marketable. Now, they- But I- A lot of guys are marketable, it's just who are they marketing? They said a league has never been like a thing thing for me personally. Yeah, no just what you see all it's You wonder like how you just say it right
Starting point is 00:11:37 Why joke ain't never been on because they didn't call But is it about being the most popular are you? Like is it popularity? Which makes you? Are you the most popular? Is it popularity? Which makes you the face? Because LeBron, Steph, fan base. And your play and winning. I think Luke can lead in jersey sales. So winning, your play, they can see you as a family man. So it seems like they're trying to get him that push.
Starting point is 00:12:00 So obviously he accomplished everything he needs to accomplish. He's the NBA champion. Clean cut. He himself feels like he's the best player in the world right now obviously some people will say Joker still holds that title, but even like you just said Luca like Luca what chances do he have as being the face of the league? like what chances are the guys who actually have Skillsets are good enough and are we talking thick look or skinny look? Oh, no, but I think So I think it's multiple guys right so to what I you said Steph LeBron
Starting point is 00:12:29 Jason Tatum like those guys they like you look up whether it's the shoe company whether it's different companies whether it's it's the opportunities to... So what's the, should the at home shit LeBron and was, the shit you put on the wall. The tonal, the physical shit. Everybody don't get those opportunities, right? Yep. Anybody call the league and be like,
Starting point is 00:13:02 who do you have for this for us? And they can, they can easily say fucking give, right? It's all marketing, it's all for the league. So they wanna push. Who can give us the most high balls from, yeah. And who you gotta give them. To your corporate America. Yeah, so who gonna help us sell the most units?
Starting point is 00:13:23 For the NBA. For the NBA. For the NBA. And this company. Who do we pick to do that? It's a bilateral thing, right? It's a bilateral thing, so they both benefiting from it. So that's the same thing as NFL picking Patrick Mahomes to be the face
Starting point is 00:13:36 compared to Lamar Jackson. Absolutely, 1000%. Right? One thousand? So Lamar, so think about- Josh Lomar is next. Think about the conversation we're having, right? So Anthony Edwards in comparison to Jason Tatum.
Starting point is 00:13:49 That's not a ugly versus good looking. They both good looking dudes that can be marketable, they have personalities, but what's the difference? He won a championship. So what's you, I mean you can use it. You got Jordan, you got Jordan versus Adidas. What's the difference between the two? You can try to use that, but they can try to use that. But we...
Starting point is 00:14:14 So you got these two and then you got Shay in the middle. And you're telling me out of these two who've been doing their thing, this guy comes out of nowhere and he takes the reigns for them? Yes. Because his team is... He's not more popular than them team success he's not more marketable but he's becoming that he is like right now you're saying he's not like so it's a lot of different if I'm trying to sell if I'm trying to go to right MX if
Starting point is 00:14:37 I'm trying to get MX I'm trying to get this I'm trying to get that and I got these three men here who who are they gonna feel comfortable with yeah right one that has six big mamas the one that has injured the one that has a family Tatum Tatum's hurt now but he's gonna be healthy he's gonna be healthy again we're talking about next year yeah we're just talking about for the for the for the whole standard of it the standard what he's saying is every just for shit to give everybody's healthy landscape. What is, what is what it is. But we can't talk about everyone's healthy.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Because if Jason Tatum wasn't injured, then he will still be him in shape. Right now, right now they move shape right here. And by his metric, what he's saying right now though, okay, he's saying this. Jason Tatum should have been the face of the league last year. No, it's who they want to put. No, no, no, no, no. This is who they want to put. Who was the face of the league last year. No, no, no, no, no, no. This is who they want to put. Who was the face of the league last year?
Starting point is 00:15:28 Curry and LeBron. All right. So who won the championship? Boston. All right. Who's the best player on Boston's team? Jason Tatum. Jason Tatum.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Why is he not considered after that championship like we are considering right now? Shea Alexander. Why? John, are you considering Jason Tatum the best player? I'm asking the questions here. I'm not answering no questions. I'm asking the questions. Are you asking the questionsate the best? I'm not I'm asking the question Trying to get the information out to a bear trap relax relax it cuz it's like Tatum didn't get like we were saying Jason Tatum should be we was arguing for that but it was like well
Starting point is 00:16:12 but then they go to the Olympics and the man don't play him and then it's a lot of bullshit right there none of that shit happened with Shay yeah so we're just giving it to him now no no just winning because still like the last few years his team success, his success averaging 30, signature shoe, being now winning the championship, MVP now. You're talking about two of the same guys doing the same thing, both of them same path. There's a face. So he got to win the MVP. No, I think in order for them to consider what we're what we're talking about Just being he's gonna be jay-taylor's gonna be one of the guys. Absolutely
Starting point is 00:16:51 But to be him to be one too. I think he needs to win one but ain't that like you so we're just saying Shea is this I'm saying it just like I've been saying LeBron and curry What do you need to believe I think I think they needs to win the MVP. That's what I'm saying. I'm like, well, why is it just him when there's other two guys that we've been considering this whole time? There are. So I think he needs to win league MVP.
Starting point is 00:17:13 They are. That would help his argument. It's two people that's the damn face of the NBA and they've been there the whole time. It's LeBron and Curry. That's why nobody else has been promoted because LeBron and Curry have That's why nobody else has been promoted because LeBron and Curry have been the face of the NBA. That's who they sell to overseas around
Starting point is 00:17:30 the world. Two family men that don't get in trouble that they can rely on. That's who is the face. That's why we don't need no Yanis. We don't need nobody because we have these two. The next up-and-coming that are getting put in place is Ant-man no Tatum no and and now Those are the three people that was up next Right so before Shay came into the picture it was that man and it was Tatum now It was job job job rent now you're looking for this next the next group so when these two go we
Starting point is 00:18:10 can put these guys she has jumped them and so he's why because one Tatum is not playing this year so the one they're gonna promote here the one that gonna promote will be shade I said it all the whole time. This coming up season. Yes, this upcoming season. All the work that I put in. Yeah, but I'm talking about the young. All these finals I've been getting. You're saying all of this don't mean nothing. No, dude. Just like I'm looking at the big day and Tatum are here. Yeah, it man in job second tier for that next up coming. So if Tatum was playing
Starting point is 00:18:46 healthy next year it would be these two being pushed. Yeah but do you think they would still be pushing Tatum? Yes that's what I'm saying. They're gonna push Tatum still. Because they don't want people to forget about it. Yeah not only that. I'm thinking long term. I'm thinking long term. Up past next year right right? Of course, they're gonna come in as favorites and defending champs and all of that, which they should be. They should get the notoriety for doing what they did this past season, which we expect. And Shay is gonna be at the forefront of all of it.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Cool, they're gonna have more national televised games and all of those things. So now that his name is gonna really, really become a household name. Cause they're gonna be playing against the Lakers on national television more. They're gonna be playing against all the better teams on national television.
Starting point is 00:19:36 The champs. So people wanna know why, and then this guy's gonna be on the commercials that fucking doing all the games. Which they already been doing. They gonna be yoga commercials and fucking peanut commercials and almond commercials and it's gonna be Shay. Him and his teammates and Shay.
Starting point is 00:19:51 So that's just what it's gonna be. You have a state farm commercial next, it's just what it is. So then Jason Tatum, so when Steph and LeBron moves on, like he just stated, and we've been saying, Jason Tatum, Shay, they clean cut, they got speak well, they family men stay out of trouble, all those things matter.
Starting point is 00:20:13 So they're gonna, in my opinion, that's who they're gonna promote more. Could somebody else fit into that? Absolutely. But those, yeah, moving forward, yeah, absolutely, moving forward, but he's young right now, but these guys are established. I'm talking about the guy that's established. Right? It's my opinion, yeah, I have some sense. Moving forward, but he's young right now, but these guys are established. I'm talking about the guy that's established.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Right? It's my opinion, yeah, God damn. Just because I didn't mention him, that's cool. That's your opinion, yeah, God. Like, cool. But question for y'all though, do you think increasing? Yeah, I'm just saying, I didn't mention him, cool. If you want to mention him on your show, cool.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I didn't mention him. Can we mention Lamello Ball? I'm going with a guy that's if you want to mention them on your when they show cool. I didn't mention it Can we mention the mellow? I'm going with guys that's established already. That's no just made it and there's doing something and I Think we will help Jason Tatum even promoted even more him. We win the league MVP So my question for you guys is we're gonna see an increase in national televised game for the Thunder I mean, that's obvious, but are they box office in your opinion when she goes city to city is he gonna sell out arenas it's not flashy his name dunking on people it's not that so but it's very obviously very championship level basketball that's my point it's like basketball yeah but it's it's what
Starting point is 00:21:22 well like it ain't like you getting to go see LeBron jumping through the motherfucking air like, oh shit, it ain't that, it ain't the Vince show, it ain't like Jive will sell out more arenas than he will because it's flashy. So my question for y'all on this couch is your personal opinion, who are you paying to go see amongst this crew?
Starting point is 00:21:42 What you mean? Of young players. You get a chance to go to a game. If I had to spend my money to go watch. If you had to spend your money to go watch, that you'd be excited about spending your money to go watch play. I will say Ja.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Yeah, I will say Ja. Yeah, I would say Ja. I would throw Ant Man in there. Him or LaMelo. LaMelo, I would pay money to go watch LaMelo. LaMelo or Ja, but Ja because he's just... Anthony Edwards' box office for sure. Yeah, because he's funny. He shoots trees and he dunk on them and he plays these. He might tell you that his junk is bigger than yours
Starting point is 00:22:25 with the ear shot. Yeah, I would say Josh. Like, if I'm going to a show, if I'm going to go, because the basketball, I'm going to pay, I want to go see a show. As much as I love basketball, play the right way, all that shit, yeah, but if I'm going to go pay, I want to go see a show, so.
Starting point is 00:22:45 Good, how about yourself? I said John. Okay Ant-man so in your opinion, what are the thunder missing other than my son? But yeah, obviously catch it put on the show as well What are the thunder missing because it's hard for me We talked about before but talking about a team that plays at a high level I did offense defensive side highest point per game differential NBA history What is it that thing that they're missing that don't make them box office the the Thunder NBA champ, but don't make them box office What's it in
Starting point is 00:23:18 But the city have what's it already in there the city have something to do with bucks office team has So would you say when the Thunder had KD, Russ and Harden and that crew did that city matter? That's my point I'm making. Like Russ... Russ... Russell Westbrook was by himself is that. You paying money to see Russ play.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Without them other two. The Ray man? Who? the Ray man. Who? Yes, absolutely. Who small was this small market Seattle? Yeah, I don't care. Be sure. But yeah, absolutely box office. Yes, the player the player.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Absolutely. Want to do together is fun. I want to see that one together is amazing. Somebody going to get body today. Yeah. Oh, I trust not. Yeah. So just my point. It's not necessarily the city like playing Oklahoma City doesn't necessarily help them
Starting point is 00:24:10 But if you keep saying them as in the team, you're not isolating it as Shea You're not saying why Shea is not box office. You're saying why is an OKC? So that's my next question. We're naming names. Why do you feel like Shea is in the box office? It feels like he checks all the boxes? Because he checks all the boxes besides the element of entertainment. Athleticism and flash and dash. Like it's the entertainment, like, it's not flash.
Starting point is 00:24:37 He's a hunk, he got the Honda, but he's playing at a Bugatti level. He's got the body of the regular. He don't have Bugatti level. He's got the body of the regular. He don't he don't have extreme Athleticism he's not moving at no fast pace. He knows how to play the game. He's gonna jump over you None of that he'll dump it if you'll dunk it if you see it He'll dunk you but it ain't about to jump over you like John He's not about to put you in the rim
Starting point is 00:25:02 Yeah, I guess that's just my problem You got a guy who's consistently delivering 30 pieces and he has 72 20 point games this season. Cool. People like to see buckets, right? But. Do they? Or do they like to?
Starting point is 00:25:12 Or is it a certain type of bucket? Because Brunson got the same type of buckets. But they play the same type of game in the middie and they get to they shit and they get it off. And it's like for average people, it's like, all right. What's next? I'm gonna ask you a question. So people, you can post it. I'm merely to ask you a question. So people who you host.
Starting point is 00:25:25 I'm merely host, but I will step outside of my hosting role. What was the best name? I've been just in one. Give me two. Give me two plays from Shea in the playoffs. In the playoffs that you remember. That you remember. Oh, shit, that was.
Starting point is 00:25:43 An assortment of middies. No, that's fair. Now, that's the problem. You done scored damn near 2,000 points. 3,000 total points on the season. But it's not in the point where we left the arena like, you know. Game winner, no game winner. That was some good shit there.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Sometimes, like, prime example. You remember Steve Francis? I've been seeing a lot of him on the internet. Francis will have 16 points eight buckets Six of those buckets this top board sports or center. I like you know what I mean? That's what he's been he did. It's those moments. So when people think about him, you remember, oh, he came here, he did the up and under, shook him down. Like it's the moments of a game that makes people feel good about it. So sometimes, you know, you're 20 easy points and nobody remembers anything.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Jason Williams, White Chocolate. Yes. Box office. Box office. You don't know what he might do at any given time Any given moment you own that motherfucking break? Curly Neil out there Coming from our producers and shout out Barry for this one
Starting point is 00:26:55 So when you look at the most memorable moments of these postseason Halle's got a lot of them, but even pre-injury It wasn't like it's just how I mean, he's delivering Injury it wasn't like it was just Holly. I mean, he's delivering You're thinking about like, all right, let's finish the playoffs. What do you remember in the playoffs? Six for six. You remember you remember Holly this Holly the other one Holly Finals and then you're here and just fucking knee Smith making all of them. Yeah, you got Rudy go Baraz with the 24. You know what I mean? If you just miss you got a Denver, you got the three.
Starting point is 00:27:33 The Air Garner. But that's what said him with the black eye. I mean, you know, the mean is just just came to the niggas game black eye. Are you getting there?? What you do? How do people get blackout? That's what it is. When we think about the greats, there's moments that we remember.
Starting point is 00:27:56 And those are the moments that we defend. Good or bad. If you think about Kobe, you think about moments. You think about LeBron, and you don't like him, you think about Dallas. The moments that make you remember what happened in the finals, and that's how it is. Dr. J.
Starting point is 00:28:14 The Dr. J, the two moments Dr. J, we can replay, was the one on Michael Cooper, and then the one underneath the rim, and he hit that motherfucker with the, come on man, that's finals, highlights. You going Jordan with the, ah, Bulls versus, come on man. So basically, S.J.A. needs to come and dunk on niggas next season.
Starting point is 00:28:32 It's not his game. It's not his game. It's not his game. Just like Kawhi Leonard. What Kawhi Leonard highlights outside of that championship shot, do you gonna say you remember? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:43 He got a lot of snatched bags, you got a lot of mitt, but excellent basketball, that's the thing. Just a little antics part of the game that just makes fans remember. Like you don't celebrate, he don't celebrate. He don't talk shit. He don't talk shit, he don't celebrate. Like, good as Steph is, humble as he is,
Starting point is 00:29:03 and as opposed, he still, Steph going it all out that month, Like it good as Steph is humble as he is and it's a post he's still All out there mother for he talking shit Yeah, and that and that's the die the thing that Jersey to shake it in all He's the face of the league and that's the little things that him, Braun and Steph have. Braun got the boom, boom, yeah. He gonna do his shit to make you say, you know motherfuckers all that shit,
Starting point is 00:29:30 Steph got his shit, what's Shay's shit? Yeah, that's just- What's making him, but even Jason Theroux, so we're not gonna even put it. They both. They both don't have. They both don't have it. That mm.
Starting point is 00:29:39 But guess who do? Ant-Man. Ant-Man got it. And he know about it. He got a whole bunch of shit. He got a whole bunch of shit bilateral That's with him that they gonna have to try to clean up and that's the thing that if you think about Steph, right? It's not the shots
Starting point is 00:29:54 It's what he does after shots that makes everybody lie on and turning around Doing this they're like In front of your bench, looking out for your fans. It's the show of the entertainment. He brings the entertainment of the game with his shot. He knows he's not an athlete. He's not going to have no dunks. It's just going to be regular ass shots.
Starting point is 00:30:16 And he's going to make them important. When we think about the shooting that Steph did in the Olympics, the one that we remember is when he hit the last shot, and he, he, motherfucking night night world. Yeah, the best highlight that he, like Steph gonna put you on the reel, there's gonna be some dribbling there and that again
Starting point is 00:30:34 and one of them motherfucking rain, and it's gonna be, but it's like, they stay like, it's just everything that comes with it. When that bitch go in, that's when you say you say see that's what we came here to see That's when that when he shoot that bitch from for wherever he shoot it from and it go in it be like see that's why I Can't come to the game to watch me shoot. No jump hook dog came mother watch me swing off that motherfucking rim slapping glad trying to hit the ball coming through the basket like
Starting point is 00:31:02 Hey, that I'm yelling and shit like only, they only care when Steph's not making it. Yeah. They're like, well, why you ain't making the jump hook? You gotta score some points. He ain't scoring. Where's you missing? Now, they're paying attention to everything. Look, nothing niggas is doing.
Starting point is 00:31:17 So we asked to chat, is Shea solidified as the face of the NBA? Almost 4,000 people voted. 50-50 split amongst our chat. I had to talk that last percentage back up. I had to talk that in. So we're going to talk a little more SGA in a second, but first I want to shift over to Angel Reese who also got a 2K26 cover for the WNBA edition. We got to give her some love.
Starting point is 00:31:37 She's been doing her thing on and off the court. So in addition to the 2K26 cover Reebok also announced Reese will be receiving her first Signature shoe the angel Reese one coming soon Jack Her first shoe will come in the diamond dust colorway angel also made the announcement on her social media with the following post She said diamond dust just a kid from Baltimore turning dreams into reality and hoping I can inspire young women and men everywhere to do the same. The most brilliant diamonds take pressure, polish and time.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Reebok is back and the diamonds are shining brighter than ever. So Reese's feature wearing her signature shoe on her 2K26 cover. She's been cooking on the court as well, averaging 13 points, 13 rebounds per game this season. Six straight double doubles, league record, six straight games with 15 plus rebounds. In her last five games, averaging 19 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, shooting 49% from the field. So she's also playing in her second straight All-Star game later this month. The preemptive smoke, okay, yeah. I respect it. Is Angel Reese establishing herself as a superstar in the W?
Starting point is 00:32:49 Establishing herself? Or do you feel like she already is? Would you consider in that superstar? She walked in that door. She walked in the door as a superstar. Right, it's, like there's no, there's no accolades that she needed like her momentum came from college and you know she's benefited in real time on her
Starting point is 00:33:16 superstardom. She had a very solid rookie season balling on this next season and she not living up to that hype that came with the name that she brought into league and all that fan base. Is she living up to the name? Yeah. I mean, in college, that's what she did. She's an entertainer, right? And you know, I know, you know, she's not going to be very welcomed.
Starting point is 00:33:45 I mean, none of the two girls are welcome, but it's everyone's looking at one when the other one is not as welcome either. You're talking about you don't really have no stats and you are the cover girl of the game we've been trying to be the cover of for the last 15 years. You got a shoe, signature shoe that we've been trying to get for the last 15 years. You got a shoe, signature shoe that we've been trying to get for the last 15 years. You got McDonald's. I didn't.
Starting point is 00:34:11 You got, I mean, you know what I mean? So she's getting these benefits. Did have a McDonald's meal. You know, she's getting these benefits because that's what she brings to the table. So no matter what she does on the court, she has, you can sell her. She's marketable.
Starting point is 00:34:25 And that's what their superstardom is, that I don't need NVPs, I don't need championships, I don't need nothing, and I can bring in sponsorship like no other. That's her appeal. So that's called superstardom. Her ceiling goes from coming in like a peak Hall of Fame, Dennis Rodman and a rookie year without the polished offensive skills going into her second third fourth year with those things to develop with this as your base. Dennis Rodman rebounding 1917-20 getting that type of foundation, I think,
Starting point is 00:35:07 it makes her the most dangerous. I think we never seen anybody in the league, especially the WNBA, come in with that type of rebound and tenacity. Because the girls don't know how to play at that level. To just go get every single rebound like that, it's never been like that. So to see her take advantage of that lane,
Starting point is 00:35:28 like this is mine, me-bounds. Let me get this. And you talk about the negative connotation, the me-bounds. She flipped it, turned it into a positive, now selling merchandise. We talked about it on this couch and y'all know, it's hard to get your own rebound. So you like, that's the, I'm just saying
Starting point is 00:35:42 if you got four or five people battling for that rebound, you miss a shot, you put it back up. Like that's, but that's not some easy thing. Like I'm just saying if you got four or five people battling for that rebound You miss a shot you put it back up like that's but that's not some easy thing I'm just gonna go miss a bunch and get my reading on me like But I'm just saying that it better make you a Hall of Famer shit But there's still something to be said about getting those even getting those boards when you battling Before other people that are all battle. Yeah, they're all battling to get that rebounds So even if you want to make that argument, I guess is my point now George Mike and Bill Russell different conversation You know, we should do the Mike and drill thinking George Mike and was this
Starting point is 00:36:20 Offensive beast the reality is you go in the face Angel You're looking you're looking for she might put 20 rebounds on your head Type shit like that. She's going out there with that energy and then she had 22 and 16 or some shit like now. She's really putting a ball in the whole she they giving her putting in position to score it That's different. And then them two doing points and assists, points and rebounds, and they both leading the league.
Starting point is 00:36:50 They doing what they supposed to do, prophecy fulfilled. And you can't hide about this, I feel like Angel reestablished herself a superstar already. Good, you'll say everything that I would have said. Yeah. It's a weird conversation, man. The WNBA conversation is so weird because they don't, as a group, they don't want to face reality.
Starting point is 00:37:16 And reality is, before these two girls, the views wasn't where they were. Right? You were complaining. You got all these men talking about we should lower the rim. I'm pretty sure you ain't heard that in the last year. Nope, right? You haven't heard that in the last year, right?
Starting point is 00:37:37 You done heard it for the last 20 years, right? So the two girls that's coming in, they're not established, they're not pro pros like you guys are. Right? So, what they're coming in with is a fan base. Right? It's like coming into the rap game. You already got your shit from goddamn YouTube or whatever.
Starting point is 00:37:58 You already got, so your numbers is gonna do whatever it's gonna do, even though you don't have the stats. I don't have the stats as Asia. you don't have the stats. I don't have this status Asia I don't have the status cow year. I don't have the status stewie, right? But because I'm here Y'all play people gonna see it. So you don't need to sit there and throw throw dirt on me I'm trying to do my thing
Starting point is 00:38:20 I didn't I didn't ask for to just I'm just the one that was granted with the light So either you can sit there and keep trying to beat on the light or didn't ask for it. I'm just the one that was granted with the light. So either you can sit there and keep trying to beat on the light or just shine while the light is on you. And that's the thing I'm saying. Listen, people are talking about the W now. We're watching now. I don't care if you was day one.
Starting point is 00:38:41 That's not the point here. We're watching. This is why we're watching, this is why social media is clean, this is why she's getting hat. Like, either you're gonna welcome us or not. But don't pretend that, you know, this last year group didn't do they damn thing. All of them.
Starting point is 00:39:02 I mean, we now looking at them Facebooks. You're followers now all y'all Chicago y'all getting ranked like we saying shit that we've never sung before oh shit she got a like I mean just everybody's benefiting from it yeah because when they play you guys are on the same court with them and they can't get every deal mm-hmm right they can't get every deal. Mm-hm. Right? They can't get every deal.
Starting point is 00:39:28 So a lot of people is benefiting from this. So yeah, no, man, she is, Angel Reese is a, yeah, she came in a superstar. Now it's just time, yeah, it's going to continue. Just work on her game now, man. Like just continue to get better on the floor because everything else is going to come with it. She's been in the league two years, two years, two years all-stars.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Who's bigger off the floor? Yeah. I guess we don't see Clark's moves. I don't know. Like, I don't know what, like we don't see, we see angels. We don't see Clark, like is she doing? Pacers games, commercials. She might be doing just- like, is she doing? Pacers games, commercials. She might be doing just, yeah, she might,
Starting point is 00:40:09 she probably doing them. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Him under the table, did him under the, She's white, we don't know what they doing. I'm just telling y'all what we doing. We're doing the American Express. She's doing all the shit. She probably doing the shit we don't see.
Starting point is 00:40:19 She owns part of the internet. She owns part of the internet. She owns part of the internet. A lot of Midwest shit. Over there. There's a lot of shit in the Midwest that we not gonna see out here. She owns part of the internet. She owns part of the internet. A lot of Midwest shit. There's a lot of shit in the Midwest that we're not gonna see out here. She owns part of the railroad system.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Heavy in the high V. Heavy in the high V. Spoons. So just imagine what she went to college at, right? You know how much money she get when she went to college at? Off the floor. Where she from and where she plant, man, boy.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Man. That whole Midwest. Zippers. She owns zippers. Zippers. All the z that hold me west. Zippers. She don't, zippers. All the zippers. Chaps. Zippers. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:40:50 It's all okay. I'm like, why these two don't, like, I know the media puts them against each other. It's like, why don't y'all just team up? The Magic and Birdie. The Magic and Birdie. Come on, man. Like y'all would, like the world is birdie magic and birdie come on like y'all it's like the world is like the world if you magic if you guys magic is
Starting point is 00:41:09 burning y'all do commercials together y'all do show like it just the Burger King McDonald's like the other me like oh like that there's real things that explosion will happen boom immediately them to it a podcast talk they did not the show. You know why? Because at the end of the day, I don't know if they realize it, y'all both getting sniped. Yeah. You both get, because it's like this. It's like, Kayla Clark, Angel Reese, then the rest of the W. They shooting at both y'all, believe it or not. It's like, they's like you really think that they they those girls behind you angel really like happy that you guys are signature in your second year the moment you don't say you're a cover of a video game that you
Starting point is 00:41:55 got McDonald's Reese's Pieces like you really think they actually like you the moment you don't share shit like you really think like this shit that these envy peas has gotten You have more fun. You had more followers in college Then the last four MVPs combined You don't think they sit in life Oh my god. Oh man. This is crazy. You're just too busy looking there. If you look back, you realize these motherfuckers are sitting there like, get her! Well, he's adding one more to the frame. Go ahead and throw her right on in there because she's like...
Starting point is 00:42:40 What's so funny? It's the 2020 class. Yeah, but she just stayed one she stayed I know she stayed one But that 2020 class put it right on coming in different put her on And when juju coming she's the complete all of it The game to face the glistening all of it. So there you have it right there. Yeah, now you got my choice, right? I got dr. J, Magic Bird. Then, motherfucker, here comes Mike in this motherfucker. That's exactly what's going on.
Starting point is 00:43:10 That's exactly what's happening. Magic and Bird right now. 100%. And then Mike is about to come in the bitches. And one of y'all just be like, Charles Barkley. Hey Mike, so what do I need to do with this deal? You need to take this percentage. Cool, cool, cool.
Starting point is 00:43:24 He ain't sitting there trying to hate the man Yeah, let's get black ball. Oh Okay, Bart was like hey You do something to him on this floor. Okay, touch him if you won't car does that should be car does if she can Her she can make her money on that You want to mm-hmm? Oh, was out there mother going about it. I wish you would I'm gonna protect you. Touch him if you want to. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:43:43 Or ogles out that motherfucker going to battle. I wish you would. All right, well let's keep this thing moving back over to the NBA side. A little more thunder talk before we move on. So 100th and other thunder news. Today, Sean DeNauwtse, OKC, and Chet Homer never agreed to a five-year Ricky Maxx extension, which will be worth up to $250 million. Homer never 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks and 32 games this season.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Missing a three-month stretch with a pelvic injury. Had the highest plus minus for any player in the 2025 NBA playoffs. Team is also reportedly in discussion with Jalen Williams on a rookie extension as well. As a reminder, J-Dub, all-star all-NBA and all-defense selection this season. So smart move for the Thunder to lock up their big three long-term. 15-8 get you 250 Yes, God up to 280 I thought it was 285. No, so she got 4285 chess got 5 could be up to 250
Starting point is 00:44:35 I think he's got to make it all in there something that that range to hit that 250 benchmark From your rookie deal to 535 million between those two players. 15 and 8 get you 250? 2.2 bucks. 32 games. Trajectory. KJ better stop passing that shit.
Starting point is 00:45:04 Who you fucking? Fuck you passing for. He was having fun when they traded him Houston. Yeah, I know. Fuck you passing for. Stop passing to these niggas. Shit. Go get that shit and throw it up on the glass, man.
Starting point is 00:45:20 He's been in the league four years? I think obviously he's... No, no, I'm just saying. He's played a the league four years? I think Mr. Obsey... No, no, I'm just saying, so he's played a total of 147 total games in his career. How much did he get? 285. What? 250. Up to 285.
Starting point is 00:45:44 So 4, 285, 5, up to 250. You 285 and up to 250 for 285 5 up to do seven foot boy you You just got to look like you about to do some shit Because he got to stay healthy for that to even make sense for that. I mean he's seven foot I mean, you know, it's just one of those things where This is what we're talking about early in the season that Chet is gonna ask for the max and they're not gonna be able to say no. Jayden Williams, you got MVP, y'all gonna get the same. You got an all star.
Starting point is 00:46:14 All NBA and all NBA and you're gonna make the same exact money as Chet. Maybe a little more. And we'll get Chet's deal done before we get your deal done. You see how, both is priority. It's hard, I can't find 6'10 with a 44. I can find a three man. I can find, I can sweep through the NBA. You know this, so that made sense
Starting point is 00:46:48 where you'd rather get checked. Check a couple more boxes. Yeah, you can. Let's go back to 15 and eight. 15 and eight? Two 50s. Two 50s. Super max.
Starting point is 00:46:59 Shit, nitty. He makes more than Sangoon, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Disney McMor than last year, Mowgli, Mowgli got 220 I think, that's your 20? So I got a question. How many seven foot centers you think can sustain 15 and 10 for more than six plus years?
Starting point is 00:47:21 Seven footers? 15, 18? Wait, the real seven footers are the ones that be like, I'm six, I'm six nine. Moby got five, 270. 270? 270. My bad. I shouted.
Starting point is 00:47:32 My bad, brother. Defensive player of the year, I think. Oh, the defense pushed him up. My bad. Pushed that bread up. Seven footers, so we're talking about. My bad. Is KG part of that?
Starting point is 00:47:41 Yeah. No, I remember him saying seven foot centers. Oh centers. Right, so Chet is a center. No, he's not. What does he play? He's a four. Do they have him as a power four or a center?
Starting point is 00:47:54 I think he's a four. He plays a four. Hardenstein is the five. Yeah. Okay. Let me read it. Let me. He was season hard, hard, hard, wasn't fair.
Starting point is 00:48:03 Yeah. So he started at the, but then he was hurt too. So then, then Hardstein came in. Yeah. But Hardstein is the five. Okay. So the same thing, same, same question. What's seven foot power forward, sustained production 15 and 10 longer than six years?
Starting point is 00:48:19 Anthony Davis? To warrant this type of contract that we talking about? The handful. Rookie Max. Got Tim Duncan, you got KG, you got Dirk. Call Anthony Towns. So the trajectory for him is the same. Anthony Davis don't fit that?
Starting point is 00:48:37 Because he plays center. A little bit. They got MB'd in here. They got AD and MB'd as the shifted bigs. I mean but bigs always got paid I mean bigs always but these are the legendary bigs that are getting paid that's what we're saying if you go if you go back if you even if you go back you're talking about even our era like it was easy 100 million dollars as a big remember adanalfoy what he averaged three and three as a backup back like what is for me? 42 42 a couple times 42 million
Starting point is 00:49:14 3-in-3 as a backup backup was their trajectory for him There has to be a potential outline for them for him. It would be 15 and 10 I would look and see be like all right giving us you said 15 and 8 he got they got him that so sustaining 15 and 10 for 10 seasons these are all the guys to sustain that you don't think it bumps up so no I didn't I mean that's a rare it's a rare it's a rare commodity so my question is is he gonna sustain 15 and 10 for the next five years as Chet Homer as we've seen last year. You don't get hurt?
Starting point is 00:49:46 But if he plays the, so the thing is, if he played the five, he would average more rebounds. I believe. Tell me why. Because he's down there? He's down, he's closer, because he's gonna have to box out more, he's gonna have to do the things that a five man, that's why Rudy
Starting point is 00:50:04 go very average with so many rebounds. Before Harkinstein. Yeah, but I'm just saying just playing the five consistently. You are so high. He was five before. Before Harkinstein, he had to play the five. Average eight rebounds. That should have been 13.
Starting point is 00:50:16 That's why I used to just look at him like, how you not giving me 12 a game? Because he wonders. He don't get offensive rebounds and shit. And he stays on the perimeter. You don't get offensive rebounds and shit. And he stays on the perimeter. He don't get offensive rebounds. Facts. Just like Brook Lopez, he don't get offensive rebounds.
Starting point is 00:50:30 And Wimby does. If he get a tip-knuck, I'm sure you'd be like, oh shit. Yeah, that's the difference between him and Wimby though. Wimby goes for the offensive glass, and he goes against the boards. Yeah, because I think Wimby's... I can't speak because I ain't sitting and playing early. He probably shooting and shit came late. Yes, see Wimby gets his first year,
Starting point is 00:50:47 Damian almost two and a half off his rebound. So yeah, so he's going, he's making himself available. Chet is roaming on a perimeter, he's hunting free. If he learns this, I think he's warranted, if we look at projections for 15 and eight in the next five years, he's like, if he's making it. If Chet and Wimby wanted to average 15 rebounds a game,
Starting point is 00:51:08 there's nobody stopping him. Yeah. Right, is there? Is there? That's just a mindset. If he presents himself and goes every time. I'm going to go every single offensively. Because my arms longer than y'all.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Just period. If I go every single time. No, defensively, you're going to clean up all defense and then offense. Yeah, if he goes. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because if I'm longer than y'all, my arms longer than y'all, No defensively they're gonna clean up all the fence and then often if you go My arms longer than y'all and I'm athletic right so It's so it's that then the new shit. I can tip it to myself tip it to it's the won't to for me It's like the one true. It's like artists check one of those guys is gonna give me more than 15 and 10
Starting point is 00:51:42 He gonna go bump it up. yeah every year like I'm not let's talk about track and winning being successful and what usually happens after that take that mother put off the gas but I got to young for the it's a yo let's talk check it 50 yeah it is too young 250 yeah, it is too young These niggas don't care about money in the basement chilling care about your money The habits that we had what I'm saying big Motivation I'm about to throw straight real quick. It's not gonna be no Eric Dan Pierce situation, bro like Turning on when the motherfucking money's up.
Starting point is 00:52:29 That was all of that was the whole era. People used to use death as an example. Like, yeah, he was example. There were some guys at LA to you see him at the sand dunes. Like all contract. Yeah, like I don't see them out there in three years. example there were some guys I like to you see him at the sand dunes like oh contract three years that's for some going into it okay coming that motherfucker four and a half
Starting point is 00:52:52 percent by like what you been doing here so I get his money so that's what I said but like most of these kids within the last couple years man they those rookie contracts is life-changing now they They're making 50, 60 million on their first contract. So the money that they're seeing that early, right, these, this contract is just 250, I just put it with the rest of that shit. Like, like LaMelo Lamelo Lamelo signed what 23 then a hundred so he had to hunt it already like This next one. Yeah, just throw that shit. Just in the a tail pop. Hey go through that man Just make sure that she's there like this is correct Yeah, go away that like a little bit missing. I mean like it's there there there
Starting point is 00:53:41 They're getting life-changing money as soon as they get drafted now. That's why I said the last pick in the draft in the first round is getting what he got as a first pick. But think about it. The second round is getting, this second round piss getting 12 million, guaranteed. That's the problem though. Remember when you was looking at your shit second round,
Starting point is 00:54:02 you was like, man, I ain't had no bread, I had to save this shit. and you looking down the line like man When I get the bread that I want and I could be able to do shit That's not this but that grind kept you in the gym like nah, I can't go do that cuz I ain't got that I ain't got it like that I'm really got to save my ships so I can go get it like that Then once I get it, I can't take my foot off the gas because I've already So what I'm saying with check no
Starting point is 00:54:30 Grindr with a grinder who don't have the money They're only trying to get the money so when they get it they like they They grew up in the house They're going up with money they they ain't what I'm saying, but that's what I'm saying. The whole ambition, the motivation for not having it. You gotta go get it, you gotta go get it. But that ain't for them. But the contract is, the contract is. That's for the kid that went to Philly. Look, this one, not the money.
Starting point is 00:54:56 The VJ kid. But the contract, like yo, I got a contract for woo woo woo, but look, we've already had money, like, that's not moving me. So what is moving me? The game? Go ask him, go have already had money, like, that's not moving me. So what is moving me? The game? Go ask him, go have a conversation with VJ,
Starting point is 00:55:09 and go have a conversation with Cooper Flack. Guarantee that conversation is way different. You get no electricity. He was gonna have a generator growing up. Like, no lights in that, so it's a different conversation. Who him too? VJ. Yeah, he's the one from the Bahamas.
Starting point is 00:55:24 Cooper Flack. Right, right. Go have, the motivation for him is the money. Is his money. Money and I'ma keep my foot. It ain't gonna never be released. Cooper Flagg, it ain't gonna never be released because I'm just good at basketball and I wanna keep getting better.
Starting point is 00:55:39 Yeah, one is, like that's what I'm saying. If we had to say one is motivated by both, one is motivated just by the sport. But if we had to say one motivated by both One is motivated just by the sport But if we had to pick one which one is gonna take his foot off the gas It'd be more likely a VJ would because everything that he prided himself on he got it right here So now I can go pay my mom's house and this and we don't got to live there no more So now I can just go out there and play whatever cool One is coming in already done. The money's already gave it to him.
Starting point is 00:56:07 So he's just playing basketball. The first reward is actually getting drafted when you don't have nothing. If you don't have it ain't the big contract. No, it's the fact that the goal was to get here. Yeah, right. The money is the second tier because we still have to work for that money. Well, you ain't got to work for that one. Yeah, we do.
Starting point is 00:56:27 After the rookie contract? What, the rookie contract you don't? What you mean? You ain't got to work for it. That's already given to you. It's guaranteed. When you came into the league, when you got drafted, that rookie deal is yours. I get drafted, right?
Starting point is 00:56:38 Yep. I'm not talking about the big money. This is a part of, but I have to work to get my big money. That's what we did before. $16 million is big money. That's what I'm saying. So the grind to go get that big money is not there no more to who to the grind to the motherfuckers who would appreciate it. Once I get this deal, I got 250 man, the grind meant so much for me. So guess what? The next one that I got, I got to keep grinding. Cause now it's not about the money. It's about the winning now.
Starting point is 00:57:09 Yeah. So about the winning now. So now the next is going to be 252. But I just won though. But that's what I'm saying for him. He just won and he got paid. And guess what? All I got to do is continue. All I got to do is lose that 15 and eight. But that's what I'm saying. These young guys don't have the, it's like, you're asking a question that the data's already shown. Like, Curry didn't grow up poor. We see what his legacy was, right?
Starting point is 00:57:35 Because money has no impact on him. The legacy does, right? So he's not, money doesn't even matter to him. So it's just basketball, right? So you're talking about Klay Thompson, right? You're talking about all the NBA kids who, you're talking about even Jalen Williams, right? It's basketball now for him.
Starting point is 00:57:53 So either you love basketball, or you don't want to be in the situation you were before. So old school basketball, this is the Jimmy Butler stories. I was homeless, I grew up, I poured poor this and this so when I get to the NBA This is while I'm doing it. Yeah, that was one road now There's another road that nobody's been paying attention to that's love these young kids who are playing basketball that have money They love this game and they grew up with trainer They grew up with trainers and I'm coming here two times three times a day Ron is a perfect example kid from Akron
Starting point is 00:58:24 That's what he say. You're having a kid from Ak kid from that. He did it the way he did it never Never took his foot off the gas never was complacent with a hundred million my rookie year. It ain't enough Cool, you know, that's what I'm like. I'm saying we've seen that Happen more often take the gas for a guy like LeBron. Never was like, yo, I'm not doing that. So he's saying that the new generation, they not thinking about the money. Because I'm saying that example of Brown was a lot of not
Starting point is 00:58:55 growing up with the hardships that LeBron grew up with the kid VJ grew up with I grew up a lot of them. They ain't growing up with that being homeless and not having lights and so that means I never had to Put my foot on the gas exactly no my foot it was never had you never had to but but oh It's a different land. So what do you say? Oh, so we said the same thing. Yeah, but he's not looking at the Cars now they got They're acting from a place of privilege where but they got whether or not this is important or not
Starting point is 00:59:27 They can just be like man. We got bread But they put in the same hours or more is because they actually love the game Yeah, but they're but they can stop they can stop at any point and not have to worry about taking care of nobody Yeah, but they can literally just be like, eh, I'll go game. But the other guys, like EJ, I can't let up. But who's winning the war? So look at the way Yonis plays the game of basketball. Sherri Shoes.
Starting point is 00:59:57 You knew something was going on. You didn't have to, I watched him play the first time. I wanted. No, no, no, I'm playing to get away from something Yeah, I want it. I need this. I'm playing to get away from something I need the bronze you can tell the way I'm playing to get away from something Certain guys listen. I'm playing to get away from something. I'm playing There's something more I had and I'm trying to get to it because this ain't it. Mm-hmm, right?
Starting point is 01:00:21 Well, I'm where this ain't it Right? Where I'm where this ain't it. So the mother kids that these kids are skilled, but it ain't that you knew the guy you look at NBA. You can tell who grew up who you can look at this NBA right now and other places. You can tell the kids that grew up with hungry. The nigga hungry. You can tell you can you from not just you can tell the kids that grew up without no go watch the car. You can tell the kids that grew up with hungry. The nigga hungry you can tell you can you from not to you can tell the kids that grew up without
Starting point is 01:00:46 No, go watch the car. You can tell kids that grew up without. Yep. It's a different drive in a different the way you approach this Right. I just I can only go on me my college coach told people listen I haven't seen that type of veracity out of a 17, 18 year old kid in a long time. Plan to get away from something. Right. I'm planning to get the fuck out of Oak Cliff, bro. A lot of dude is that, right? So, but a lot of that veracity that you have doesn't exist anymore. So we're having less of that. And more of it's OK for me to not go get 10 boards.
Starting point is 01:01:29 So you already gave me. OK, so hold on. I'll give you a promise. We gave that money with that Lakers, right? It was like, well, we gave him this based on what he did prior to. Yeah. So he got this based on his prior shit. So he don't have to do shit this year for us. We don't give him. We thank him for your service. You're looking at it wrong like love. That's what I'm saying
Starting point is 01:01:49 It's hunger and love. Those are two different roads No one's ever paid attention to the love of the game Michael Jordan wasn't poor He didn't come from the slums. That's the goal. He didn't come from hardship slum from the slums. That's the goat. He didn't come from hardship. So I hope he Brian is slow. His got he got he got from nothing. It was trauma that was no rules from trauma.
Starting point is 01:02:13 Now you're changing. Oh, yeah, you're changing it. Trauma comes with any you can be rich or poor trauma. We're not like like like Kobe, like Kobe. We love going through. No, no, everyone goes through something that's so good. Everybody goes through something. So that's what I'm saying. You're talking about these young kids are not going through shit.
Starting point is 01:02:28 You don't know what this is. And they're not doing anything. So just so you know, let me give you a prime example. Let me give you a prime example. You watch KJ play, right? Like going over to TV's all like, our top five players in the NBA top ten, did they come from hardship? Was Shaq coming, was he poor? Army dad, shack coming is he was he poor?
Starting point is 01:02:48 Army got army dad didn't magic johnson. Was he poor? Tim duncan was he poor? Right levy burr was they were these poor men So that means if they wasn't poor struggling getting out of the projects that means something else was pushing them to be great the love of this game Yeah, I love this shit kairi. I love this shit Kyrie. I love this shit Steph Curry. I loved it That's a different thing that no one's ever studied. No, Jay. Uh Jaylen Brown Poor what comes with I love this. Hey poor fame ego
Starting point is 01:03:23 entitlement No, okay, prima donna shit. That's, I'm not discrediting anything what you said. Because you was cooking. But I'm looking at the other side. Why would you take your foot off the gas if you ain't never had to put your foot. So it's two sides of it.
Starting point is 01:03:38 Like you said, the veracity of an Oak Cliff nigga coming through, I ain't never had nothing. I need this. But then there's a nigga from Bel Air who you know his his f***ing nanny in them was a millionaire. So at what point is he gonna really appreciate like hey man they just gave you this like no I'll just be in the gym man I'm just in here. There's a lot of games in the basketball. So when we go up against each other there's a difference. So that difference is what I'm saying with Ch with check like don't let that 15 and 10 at 15 a day money Stop you it's not he's just gonna cuz I don't know his background
Starting point is 01:04:12 I don't know if he's one of them but it but I know that I'm gonna tell you to pack you grew up in Minnesota Like you gotta go up. You gotta go up from now He gonna go like he gonna continue to pad that he's on because he loves the game best He just want to continue to get better. And they're seeing the fruits of getting better. They winning commercials, all that, so he's gonna continue to get better. That's all it is. But quickly, Larry Bird did grow up poor.
Starting point is 01:04:33 Just wanted to let you know. He was a broke boy. One of the top ten? He was a broke boy growing up. But look in that chat. I ain't never been to French Lick. I'm pretty sure it ain't much in French Lick, Indiana. It ain't nothing but, but nobody-
Starting point is 01:04:44 But some white chicks. Pretty sure it ain't much in fish lick in We just know that story like like Tom Brady was he poor don't know no had a good family Okay, was a patch of my own sport. No dad played MLB. Okay, so they so Not Mary bonds, but was with Griffey Yeah, I played in the MLB as well. So So they, so, not Mary Bonds, but Griffey? Yeah. That played in the MLB as well. So, that means they, if they're going out there putting the same 10 hours in, it has nothing to do with money, right?
Starting point is 01:05:15 So you can't, you can't knock them off with the bag, right? The easiest person to knock off the bag is a person who never had it. Soon as they get it, they, shit, I'm good now. That happens, that happens more. That happens a lot. That happens more than I don't have. I came from the hood and I got my deals.
Starting point is 01:05:30 And I'm like, good, I'm good. But that's like, listen, all of the other guys who are not those guys who were sons and sons of other players that didn't pan out because they did let their foot off the... But they never foot was... Okay, off the... Off the...
Starting point is 01:05:43 Why you think a lot of men that fell into his walk away when they could still... He let his foot off the. But they never foot was enough. It was often. You think about it. If he walked away when they could see it. He let his foot off the guy. Whoever. No, whatever. Let the foot off the guys. Mean he got money. He got his money and then he was just like, yo chill.
Starting point is 01:05:53 I'm not saying I'm just saying a name. So it's like there's other situations where it's not just the Steph Curry's and the clay Thompson's where they all go here. It's like there's some situations where guys got the bread and they was already entitled and they just walked away with the bread. You were going to go. That's what I'm saying. Go outside NFL dudes.
Starting point is 01:06:11 They do that. A lot of niggas get money and get more money in their mouth. They didn't got the bread. They do a lot of guys. I've been in the NFL dudes. Like got their bread. They won big cards. And like, hey man, I'm good.
Starting point is 01:06:22 I'm good. I can feed my family. I can feed my family. Listen, I can walk away on my own, too I've seen I'm still walking away and I'm still lucid mentally a Andrew look right, huh Aaron Donald, I mean he's there and I'm just Megatron where they poor shit Those are better so I'm just talking about dudes that was in the trenches, dudes that came from nothing, got they deal, here you go, played another couple years and was like, hey man, I'm good.
Starting point is 01:06:53 Moved to Rancho Chucamonga. Yeah, so and that's just like, it's just- Like look at the ball boys. So just look, yeah, just- They grew up good. And they still out here. Shit. Go look at KJ.
Starting point is 01:07:03 Just look at KJ. Like how many times he could have quit think about it they already have they money the whole family set as a group this one's going through six surgeries like shit I bet you still fighting legacy and prophecy you're changing it again no it's just what it is saying people who are richer quitting You just said you don't see no whole bunch of people quit that got that was privileged that they took they put off the gas That's not saying quit the metal like I'm just changed. I'm just do that. I'm naming everybody I never said quit look look what you're talking about James don't have play right? That nigga works out every single day more than everybody.
Starting point is 01:07:45 He can literally take his foot off the gas. He can literally, but he hasn't. We don't know yet. We don't know what he's done yet. He's still going forward. He can get his big contract and then next thing you know production drops. What are we going to say? He's having a slump or are we going to say, see he don't have to really show up.
Starting point is 01:08:02 Shit he's LeBron James son. But that's, see you're trying to make something that's not here yet. Like we're saying a dude who had a heart attack almost died. No, we don't want to go there. We don't want to go that far. God damn, bro. He's a privileged kid who had 20 something million coming before he came into the NBA.
Starting point is 01:08:19 Before he came into the NBA, he had a hard thing. The first thing he says, I want to watch tape and play basketball. He's at the gym from 12. I mean from 8 in the morning to 2 is Money thriving his kid or is it love of the game? So I don't have to play what I'm saying. You don't have to play but he is you don't have to if he's not late He still go gets to live in a million dollar house But but if the other kid don't play he gotta go back to the hood sell dope That's the difference listen to what you're seeing the guy who has the money is
Starting point is 01:08:51 Working his ass off not you know more money Gonna make him take the foot off the gas there is It could be anything cuz you say he never had to put his foot on the gas He already had gas so he already got all the gas. You don't have to do this So what is more likely if I have the money and i'm working out eight hours a day And you're chasing the money and you're working eight hours a day When the next bag comes who is less likely to quit? You because you're you're working hard for that bread I'm working
Starting point is 01:09:28 out for because this is what I like to do. So that's why somebody like you brought it to me. So it's a hobby. Yes. Alright. So listen to how we talk about the game. It's a hobby. You treating the game like a hobby. I'm treating this for survival. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:43 Again. That's the difference bro. So guess what? Say it for them. So listen to for survival. Yeah. Again. There's a difference, bro. So guess what? Oh my God. Say it for him. Say it for him. So my reference, so listen to my reference. Say it again.
Starting point is 01:09:51 You're trying to survive. I said don't take your foot off the gas, check. We the moose. So guess what? The whole conversation went from anything that it's talking about now to just don't take your foot off the gas. So guess what basketball has become? Basketball is the new golf.
Starting point is 01:10:03 Right? And tennis. basketball is the new golf. Right? And tennis. In order to be good at those sports, what do you need? Money. Yeah, I don't know if you heard that. In order to be good at golf and be good at tennis, it takes money.
Starting point is 01:10:20 Really? Yes. How much? Today? It always has. No, no, no, no, no. No, tennis, like a million stuff. Tennis and golf as a child? To put your child in these sports to become anything,
Starting point is 01:10:35 it costs money to play tennis and golf. Shit ain't free. You can go play basketball. When we were younger, you can go play basketball for free. Now, you still can't, but now they, so you need, in order to be good at golf, you need a coach and a trainer and all that shit. You need to buy clubs.
Starting point is 01:10:52 You need to buy all that shit. Tennis, tennis, you can't use the same tennis racket. Balls, coaches, all that shit cost money. Basketball has become that. It cost money. Basketball has become that. It cost money. How many trainers are out here now for a game? Our game that we grew up playing for free that we had to go learn how to do these drills.
Starting point is 01:11:14 We did it for free, right? These dudes getting paid for that shit now. Very well. So very, on the hour, whole academies just for basketball, right? IMG started as a tennis academy. on the hour, whole academies just for basketball, right? IMG started as a tennis academy. You know what I'm saying? Strictly tennis.
Starting point is 01:11:32 You know how much money it cost to go to that motherfucker? I'm very aware. So, you know what I'm saying? But you know how much money, so people from the hood, it cost money to do that shit. Basketball has become that. So those same kids that has money that's paying for these trainers are Chet, the Cooper Flags, all of these kids that's coming up
Starting point is 01:11:50 now. The NBA kids that grew up with money, the NFL kids that grew up with money, they're paying for these trainers now and they're getting the knowledge of being in the household. So now they don't have to have that that right? So it's it's a hobby To the point I was making this a hobby and that's what I don't he they're really good at the one is survival But Jackson played NFL as a hobby one is survival one is a hobby You got to look at that You're doing this just to survive. It was my job. Once you get enough food, then that means you're done. This is my hobby, means I'm gonna do this shit all day every week. You know what kept me on my square?
Starting point is 01:12:35 You know what kept me on my square, Shots? That's actually survived. Shots, you know what kept me on my square? So you can't say what you just said. You can't say what you just said because the survival never stops, bro Yeah, so, you know, we're gonna go my square. No, it doesn't you're no it doesn't you can't say it does if you never had to Be there bro So don't say that I worked out three
Starting point is 01:12:56 Privilege right? Yes. Okay, so this is not this you weren't Did you work out more than me? Oh my god. Did you work out more than me? Oh my god. Did you work out more than me? Oh my god. How about this? So you refuse to even stand down in a conversation that you haven't even lived.
Starting point is 01:13:14 You came from the slums? Is that what you're saying? Yes. Did you work out more than me? Yes. You did? Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 01:13:22 In high school I worked out more than your whole NBA career Give me your high school coaches. No, you're talking about give me your high school plan with me No, I don't want that. Give me your I want to go find it. You find everything else. Give me okay I don't find it go research that shit to find it and talk to him back to me So tell them tell the world how hard I worked when I was in high school. I can ask your high school coach I can ask my I can ask your teammates in college. I asked them. Okay. I'm gonna do that cuz you don't know no No, I'm cuz you don't know right? No, but you said you were you don't know right? No, I asked you a question Cuz you don't know right? Oh, yes. I don't know. Okay, so you need to know cuz I'm telling you right now I'm trying to let you know but you don't want to listen no you're saying you worked harder than me so the only way we
Starting point is 01:14:10 can prove we worked harder is it somebody tell you somebody tell you other than me because yes I got a shirt called here because then becomes our tell me I didn't say I worked harder I just asked you did you work he said yes and he said no and I said no so that's our so the only way we figured out we asked don't do it but both y'all so this is my we both have our opinions but it's a way to do it we don't we ask somebody but it don't matter is somebody still subjective no because you don't no matter what nobody say Gil you still gonna think you work The hard no no no, but I'm saying he's still what they he worked off I say we can ask your coach your coaches a how many hours that he put in a day
Starting point is 01:14:53 He's but you're not gonna give a answer though, and then I don't concede that no I can if it's if it's coach said he worked out six hours a day and I worked out five I have five but fix your win, but that's the way so who worked harder That's longer Rashad is actually left to go over hard to separate things But what I'm saying is he's actually going to work out right now. Mine is a back you can you there's data Okay, I got you, but I'm gonna feel subjective. No, it's not subjective if there's proof that there's data because there's no proof Yes, there's your coaches is this is the hardest working player I ever had. Okay Yes, your coaches says this is the hardest working player I ever had. Okay, that's an opinion.
Starting point is 01:15:26 That's, that's, then you have teammates that say, hey, I worked out with Kobe, Tim Duncan, Gilbert is too. Like there's data that shows, there's articles, Jim, right, he won't leave the gym. He slept in the gym. I have that. Okay, but when y'all did that. So that's my background. So y'all worked out that long, right?
Starting point is 01:15:41 I worked out for two and a half hours and I think I worked out harder than y'all as well But that was so that was rishada's return from his workout, but the the argument This is not even the argument. The thing is what we're talking about is this I'm listening is He says Hunger, right? Yes stays hungry and Sometimes sometimes yes, and i'm saying the person who uses it as a
Starting point is 01:16:05 hobby. Never said that. You did. Survival. Survival. Survival. And then I'm saying one of the words. You never leave survival mode. One is a hobby. Some people do. Yes, you do. One is a hobby. Some, not all. One is a hobby. Yes, I see. Meaning that this person just does it for fucking fun. He just loves waking up. And he's really good at it. And he's really good at it. Like he's really good at it. Like I said, Bo Jackson played in NFL as a hobby. Yeah, so now you have both people in there. First you just had Honger, now the hobby's in here,
Starting point is 01:16:32 and we're trying to see who takes their foot off the gas. Yeah, yes. And I'm saying which one is more likely. It seems like the person who's doing it for survival, because once they stop surviving, once I get to 50, I'm not in survival mode anymore. Hey, what did Michael Jordan do at the third championship? Yeah he walked away but I'm just but he didn't walk away on purpose
Starting point is 01:16:50 that was so good so it could be so I hear both sides so I'm taking myself so I hear both sides right and I think there's equal opportunity for both to do like once you reach a certain level of success, no matter if you had to work for it or not, whether you grew up in the slums or you didn't, when you've reached a certain level for some people, yeah, they going, cool, I'm good, right? I got my money, I can just continue
Starting point is 01:17:22 to average motherfucking 15 or I could whatever the cake whatever I'm saying cool Some people go with them. Then you have I reached this and it ain't good enough It ain't good enough. Whatever this luck. It ain't good enough. So there's both sides of it. So We've seen both sides of we of it. So we've seen both sides of it. We've seen both right now. We've seen both and we've seen both. It's past tense and present. We've seen in real time. So it all depends on the person ultimately. Whether you worked hard, you did, whether it was privilege, whether you got to it the easy way, the hard way, out the mud, or somebody fucking handed it to you.
Starting point is 01:18:06 It depends on that person. And that's what goes next to what I say. And it is how you reference what it is you do daily, whether you going, listen, I'm finna go work out, or I'm finna go to work, or I'm finna go play, or I'm finna go have a, however you want to reference it to get you to go on whether you, that's on you. Whatever drives you. What I used to say say and my mother used to always tell me,
Starting point is 01:18:27 I love how he says that, I'm about to go to work. Shooting practice, I'm about to go to work. My games, I'm going to work. I wasn't going to play. I'm going to, it's a game, but I'm treating it that, I gotta put food on the table. I'm going to work, so this shit personal, right? And I never let off of that, because for me,
Starting point is 01:18:50 it was personal. I can't, other dudes that I play with, you can tell, like, yeah, it don't mean as much, right? I played 15 years. I wasn't the most skilled, couldn't shoot the best, couldn't dribble the best, couldn't do that shit, but it fucking meant something. Cause I treated it as my fucking job.
Starting point is 01:19:10 Everybody ain't gonna have that approach. Some people, as we stated on this show, it's gonna be a fucking hobby for them. They grew up with money, they had a training, they good at it, they got really good at it. Their mom was six two, their dad is six seven, now they grew up to be fucking six 11, and they got the means to go fucking
Starting point is 01:19:26 be a really good basketball player. He was just the number one pick in the draft. So you have these different things, but it's just different households, and how you grew up is what you built on, and what you become. Or if the money motivates you or not, right? Some people it do, some people it don't.
Starting point is 01:19:43 So, yeah, so that goes back to- Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. Don't take your foot off the guy. I know him, I don't. So, this goes back to... Absolutely. Don't take your foot off the guy. I know him, I don't know Chet, but... Absolutely. He's not gonna take his foot off the guy. He's not gonna take his foot off the guy. Before we move on...
Starting point is 01:19:54 Hypothetical. Before we move on, we asked the chat, is it obvious? 75% of the chat said yes. Huh? 75% of the chat said... Said what? We asked the chat, is it obvious? It is always obvious.
Starting point is 01:20:04 35% of the chat. It that what say what we asked chat is it obvious if it's always obvious 35% So looking at this chest situation Jalen Williams situation going on with the Thunder Thunder I want a team to sing great success and building their roster through the draft So with the new CBA this can become very problematic with teams having to actually root for guys to play at an all-mba level But not actually make an all-mba team So after the magic sign Paulo pancaro to a Ricky Maxx extension athletic senior writer, Sam Vassini offered a simple fix to this issue.
Starting point is 01:20:30 Let's take a look. He said, I'd be in favor of teams being rewarded for drafting all-NBA players. Think it'd be reasonable for these players to cost just 25% of the cap even if they do make all-NBA and get 30% of the cap in cash payment. Teams shouldn't be rooting against their players making all NBA.
Starting point is 01:20:47 Do you guys agree or disagree with that notion? If you draft a player, he turns into an all NBA level player, you should be rewarded for having that force out right now. Force it, damn, now I gotta move this dude or make- You just said that. Yeah, I said that yesterday. You just said that shit yesterday.
Starting point is 01:21:00 I am. Like, you know, he just said it yesterday. And we did talk about this a little bit yesterday, but. Yeah. But yeah, but. We are in many households. People that didn't watch it, but yeah, Gil just said the same shit yesterday.
Starting point is 01:21:13 Like you shouldn't be penalized for you drafting well and your team becoming something. And now you can't retain your assets because you got this luxury tax and this first apron and second apron and this tax and this pillardy and Just doesn't do fucking team. So now teams want to sail because I can't we're seeing the Celtics have to do that as a result I'm having to pay pay them Jaylen Brown. I won a championship. I got these two guys. I go get drew holiday
Starting point is 01:21:37 I got poor zingers. I got to pay Pritchard. I got to pay white I got but I can't do that shit now because it's all these fucking pill me's now. But in Oklahoma City case, I drafted these guys. Now eventually I'm gonna have to get off of them because I'm gonna be penalized because I did a great job. And maybe not even say- At evaluating talent. Not even necessarily those guys.
Starting point is 01:21:58 You could probably retain that big three, four, but there's gonna be a lot of moving pieces going on with that roster. But the other guys that they drafted, they've drafted well over the last fucking six years, right? They've done their job in the front office, but they're gonna be penalized because they evaluated this talent, right?
Starting point is 01:22:14 Well, they all NBA players are not like to this point, they evaluated this talent. They went out and did their job. They spent time, energy, resources to evaluate these guys and they picked them. But eventually, I'm going to have to get it off of them. Is there a thing about somebody like the Spurs, right? You drafted Windy.
Starting point is 01:22:33 You drafted Castle. You drafted Dylan. At some point, let's just say they're all doing exactly what they're supposed to do Becoming exactly first round lottery picks. And they win in championships. This new CBA makes them make a decision on getting rid of one or two of them. That's not fair. Right? It's like what is the point of me owning this team if my scouts, the people I pay,
Starting point is 01:23:07 is finding the right pieces to make us successful. Now because of this CBA to make everything fair, I get penalized on my own talent. Penalized for winning. Penalized for being successful. That's what it is, being successful. Penalized for being successful. How crazy does that sound? Right, it's real.
Starting point is 01:23:26 Somebody's legacy on championships is gonna be be scrutinized because of this business. It ain't got nothing to do with them. Paperwork. Yep. Say that's on black and white, the history of the game is. Like the chances of somebody staying in the organization for 20 years
Starting point is 01:23:49 when now it's all paid it's all actually money involved they ain't got nothing to do with like can you be able to retain your assets and if you are you yeah I can keep winning me as long as possible but I can't keep nothing around them right we went to did I win the two championships I can't even keep this I got to get rid of them bring it back to Bring it back to ground zero to try to build it up again to bring it back to ground zero So these guys are handicapped their legacies is handicapped unless you willing to pay Astronomical amounts in taxes and tax and fees and attached is not even dollar-for-dollar It's not done every other year is three three for one Shit like that, right?
Starting point is 01:24:28 Crazy is that because I was over the test but to the point though players Association did agree. Yes That's what the weird shit was when I gave mine had a big Because they agreed to all the dumb shit that they wasn't supposed to agree to. And they went along with it right after that. They put that shit in right after that. Draymond had to disagree. Yeah, he disagreed with it. But you said it's basically taken away from the lore and the love that used to be free
Starting point is 01:24:55 agency, right? It used to be this big grand spectacle, all these guys getting bread, all these deals, and we haven't really seen that. Oh, because it's, you know who gonna get it. You got it, it's, you know. How many like you got it it's you know you got how many players you got right now asking for 30 million I don't know but go to 2012-2013 nine dudes averaging 20 plus it's 44 44 guys ever been 20 plus now. So them 44 average for asking for 30 plus. Yeah, them 44.
Starting point is 01:25:26 Right? Them 44 guys are asking for 20 plus. There's like four or five people right now asking for 30. 30. Now I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna just say this, hey man, listen, there's four of y'all asking for the same money.
Starting point is 01:25:38 The first one that walk in there and say, listen, I'll take 20 million a year. You about to have a good summer. That's my guy. You might have a good summer the mother three Yeah, they got to sign one year deals and try to be free agents again next year They run to the same situation go back to the same somebody somebody about to get fun Like three y'all gonna be mad as shit. I'm gonna just say that because they not they not paying There's money like that market value is value is gone. Old saying, a bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush. You asked for a third like this.
Starting point is 01:26:11 Three of y'all, four of y'all asked for 30 million and obviously y'all haven't signed yet. Deadass. And basically those guys at that top tier, you look up at the chest, the SGA, those type of guys, they're going to get that big bread. It's kind of those guys in the middle who used to get that bread that are now getting pushed to sign this one year 10 one year middle man always been gone two for 20 with a Michael Bizey has called into Gills Reid to present him. He said, tell Nick he said boo.
Starting point is 01:26:49 Tell Nick Young he said boo. What's wrong with this? Michael Bizey facetimed into the shit. Tell Nick Young he said boo. So, I thought Gil was the only person that don't have a phone number, that don't answer phone calls. No, them the only two that FaceTime each other. FaceTime, yeah. I can FaceTime you.
Starting point is 01:27:09 You can FaceTime call. FaceTime calls. Uh-uh. Uh-uh. We use it the same way. Crack the code. Yeah. Wouldn't you just prefer a call though as opposed to a FaceTime?
Starting point is 01:27:19 No. No. You need to see what's going on. Everybody can't do it. What happened was, you know, Blackberry was a shit back in the day. So you had no coming calls. So that means people had to text you. So then you get to read how much motherfuckers asking for.
Starting point is 01:27:31 Like, ah, yeah, yeah. I said 10,000, that record label, huh? 2100? I can do 2100, right? It did. Similar to free agency. Yeah, so then what happened is, iPhone kicked in,
Starting point is 01:27:46 and I got an iPhone, and then the kids FaceTimed. And I'm like, what the fuck is that? And then that's how you realized that they didn't have nothing to do with the singular service. Yeah, that's how, just like free agency, that's how it is. Whoever put it in the tent, you'd be sitting there like, oh my God, like damn, must be the first of the month.
Starting point is 01:28:05 Rent, rent, rent, rent, rent. Did you see more activity towards the end of the month, around like the 20th, 22nd? Brother. Would it spike around the 28th of the month? It's the first part. All right, you give me the first four days. You be sitting there like,
Starting point is 01:28:23 Yeah, they know about it. It It's like it's like it all Hey Yes, sir With the bill Paying the change and we send it in out to us They take it turns like yes, you go first this month this first next month You'd be sitting like yeah, like it'd be cool cool This one person be like, yeah, can I get 23 honey?
Starting point is 01:28:50 Then ding ding ding ding ding like that just add up to 15 Because he said yes That's what it'd be feeling like like god damn all in a row bad game you get a little breathing room I you don't bother here we go straight you don't hear nothing man you come out half 54 oh it's a good time to ask them y'all let's keep this they move it today's bad guy today's podcast sponsored by rough green sometimes in life you want to get to the truth you got to look the numbers unfortunately 50% of all dogs over 10 years old will die of cancer the other 40 to 50%

I need the vitamins. He needs more Rough Gryz.
Starting point is 01:31:27 Please get him to him. All right, well let's keep this thing moving. So in the wake of the three-point explosion around the league, the mid-range has suffered dramatically. So during his appearance on the Mind the Game podcast, Katie offered these thoughts on the importance of stars utilizing the mid-range more. The mid-range is never even more important. It's just it has to come from the right dudes. The court is spaced now by the role players. What do you think they're trying to take away?
Starting point is 01:31:54 So the star has to be able to make mid-range shots or else the team's not going to be able to score in a playoff situation. They have to be able to loosen the defense takes with their. So I think the analytics community would agree with that too. It's really just we don't want players X, Y, and Z taking a bunch of mid-range. Because the mid-range I believe is if you can't find a good shot, we should look for the good shots early, the threes.
Starting point is 01:32:19 Attack the pain. Attack the pain, try to get layups, try to get threes. But when it's five to six seconds on a clock, get a ball to the best player. And if he shoot a mid-range at that point, then he shoot a mid-range, but we not gonna waste the clock trying to look for a three, two seconds on a clock, and we giving it to
Starting point is 01:32:34 a no-discs to me. Dorian Finney-Smith with two seconds on a clock to make a three, that's not what we, or Boyce O'Neal, that's not, I mean they can hit it for sure But I sustainable office for us going forward so another thing what you're also saying is like you pass up a good mid-range shot To get a worse exactly shot exactly so there's a balance there exactly so So that that man his teammate black the man formerly known as black and mild during his time with the Lakers
Starting point is 01:33:03 Yes, now a member of the Rock is the same team as Kevin Durant Told him already I'm not going to you I'm not throwing it to you Don't know fuck how open you are you you I'm not going to go get it off the glass off the glass boy Back door you better back door off the glass boy back door you better back door. Hey, all the Bronx. They say you're going to say you're passing the door.
Starting point is 01:33:28 You're like damn bro. You just going to take that. Yeah, that was my only part. He was open but a lot shit. So last season the rise in three-point rate continued to come at the expense of mid-range shots which accounted for less than 10% of all field goal attempts for the first time since the introduction in three-point line.
Starting point is 01:33:45 So will we ever see, well first what do y'all think about the comments they made? I disagree man. I disagree. I think the game changed to the point where we look at back when the mid-range was most important. The triangle offense was implemented and defense was a cloud of the crud in the plank. Everybody was in the plank. We had two big man on each block. It was hard to get all the way to the lane. Everybody had to focus to that. If you didn't have a mid, you had to have a floater. You had to have something. So I look at the game now, is it wide open? There's no room for a real midi unless you can't get to the hoop. It's either threes or dunks or layups. So there's really no room for a real midi unless you can't get to the hoop. It's either threes or dunks or layups. So there's really no room for a midi because the paint is wide open. So KD's
Starting point is 01:34:33 still taking midis because he's still in our framework from 2010 to 2020 where we played where you can see the paint, you can come off a curl and you know where your shot's supposed to be. He still plays that way, but they don't play like that throughout the league no more. So there's not gonna be mid-range It's not gonna be set up for that because you can get all the way to the lane. You don't need to Yeah, you can get to the lane, but the game there's still a need for it, right? You run me off the line a one dri dribble pull up for a lot of basketball players still a good fucking shot. Okay. You're working on it, you conditioning
Starting point is 01:35:10 yourself for it, it's still a good shot and it's still two points. Like I don't... You... it's making guys robotic, it's making guys have to think too much, right? Should I go to the bat? Should I shoot the three? Should I pass? Should I not pass? Should I go drop my hand off? Like, no, it's just too much at times, right? I'm at the three, I pump fake.
Starting point is 01:35:34 I go sideways? Like, no, I'm trying to get an advantage. Like, go forward and now you behind me. And it's like, I don't want to, like, pump fake a dude to go sideways and it's still like, it's a for me it's yeah I'm I'm still believing it like that still should be like I just go back man when Mello went to Houston man and it was one of the most disgusting things I'd seen and one of the best if not best mid-range players this game has seen.
Starting point is 01:36:18 This situation I'm talking about after three dude ran at it Mello pump fake one dribble made the motherfucker one dribble pull up no turn to the bench and say my bad, man. He know better. He said my Carmelo Anthony, man. No tools. Like my bad. Him? Like come on, man. Like no. Like no. There's still that. And a lot of people work on that. A lot of people still, still part of it, man. It's so to give you to the best player at times. You had the fourth quarter cool. Yeah, you can have that but during the course of the game, if there's a mid-range jump shot to be taken, I don't guys are working at it.
Starting point is 01:36:56 You see him working at it and they should prove it to you that this they can add that this is a part of their game. I don't see why they should be hindered from doing that when the lights are on. Right, if you know somebody is working on that and they're showing you doing practice, one dribble pull-up, that's a bucket, that's still two points,
Starting point is 01:37:13 whether I get to the lane or not. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. It could be one dribble, two dribble, float or whatever it is. It's situational when you talk about one dribble pull-ups and all those, it's situational. It's basketball. Still, so if I take a one dribble, if I'm mechanical on about one dribble pull ups and all those such as the situation. It's basketball. Still. So if I take a one dribble, if I'm mechanical on a one dribble pull up just because a nigga
Starting point is 01:37:30 run me off the line, it's a layup. It could be, but maybe sometimes you can't get that. It's situational. Sometimes you can't get that. The situation is, is there another line of defense coming over? Usually when we take the one dribble pull up. It's because we had the nail. You act like you're a finna shoot a shooting dude come help now you make that extra pass now
Starting point is 01:37:45 he got the wide open shot. That's the dribble driving kick dribble the kick boom boom boom. So it's all do I have it if he help it and I have it I have it if I don't I'm already picking up my dribble based on being robot. You're going sideways. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, so that's my thing. I think if you're not down there to guard the rim on my pump fake.
Starting point is 01:38:03 Go shoot the left. I gotta go there because you're not down there. Now if I see you and I notice I'm not going. But you know guys are rotating though. That's what I'm saying but that game ain't there no more where we got niggas like you down there that we got to be conscious about after this pump fake and we can be like oh shit I got Kenyan let me just go ahead and shoot this. That's the KD, gay KD know that like if I ain't got nobody down there I'm just gonna pull this you can't touch this But the guys are not they not trained for that you see the lane you go like how they think these dudes scored all these points man
Starting point is 01:38:32 Multi-level score right it ain't just fucking all threes and later now Right these dudes got a lot of fucking like the dudes that's in the best scores the best scores is mid-range Yeah, that's what I'm saying. The best scores is mid-range. Yeah, that's what it's a game. Yeah. So it's still counts man. Like we just watch this mid-range is shit out of everybody to a ring.
Starting point is 01:38:52 And I mean you got Jalen Brunson who mid-range is a shit out of everybody. Yeah, all finished in the top 10 of regular season for the Bitties man. The best player out history has understood that the mid-range is the most important thing I think the other analytics has stopped the rest of the league From playing in that area. Yes, right y'all just sit there if you think about the trial robots you said about big Bob shot Big shot Bob you sit there shoot threes, right?
Starting point is 01:39:26 Derek Fisher, sit there and shoot threes. BJ Armstrong, sit there shoot threes, right? Tony Kukoc, sit there shoot, they didn't, it seemed like, just like old school, save the space for our go-to guys. So when you think about today's game and you just sit there say are my top tier right. There's if we have 30 to 60 top tier guys 75 percent of them is playing in a mid-range game.
Starting point is 01:39:56 But what part of the media are you talking about? Are you talking about are you talking about pin downs? Are you talking about Isos? Are you talking about the pump fake pump fake pull up? We think about Jaylin Williams. What year what year are you talking about? This year we're talking about Isos? Are you talking about the pump fake pump fake pull-up? We think about Jalen Williams. What year what year? What era are you talking about this here? We're talking about Katie's talking about so Jalen you tomorrow Jalen Bronson SGA who else is doing that? Booker Maybe six six seven of them shit up Cheney, Cheney, Cheney. Maybe six, six or seven of them.
Starting point is 01:40:23 This was it. Jamal Murray. Jamal Murray. Jamal Murray, like Luca. Luca. Right, like that's what's it, every top tier. But you don't see it as, you don't see it like, like how you're showing it is that
Starting point is 01:40:38 these guys are targeting the two point areas because they know it's not a place that everybody is using. And I'm looking at the rest of the league and you're like well these guys are the smartest smartest ones that know that this is a lost art and we can get a lot of our points here particularly the two point guards Jalen Brunson and SGA they know that we can get this shit here everybody else is like it's coaching in defense it's what we plan what the defense gives us. These guys know what to make the defense do.
Starting point is 01:41:08 The rest of everybody else is like, yeah, one dribble pull up, what's that? What's that? I'm about to shoot this three, it's more than two. You know that, right? So I'm gonna sidestep, because this is uncomfortable for me and it doesn't feel right and we don't practice this,
Starting point is 01:41:24 I don't train this way. Guys, way guys it often role players right but for the most part it's your role players is your dork shooting threes it's your caruso shooting the threes right you're trying to keep it seems like they're just trying to keep the space open for when my star wants to get in there you can get it to me and I swear you is they want you to shoot the three. Don't start putting it in the mid-range game. Yeah, well, fair to say that. That's what it seems like in this game.
Starting point is 01:41:51 You come out for the star players? No, just for the role players. For the role players. Not to get into the two-point area? No, you're going to make a three or drop player. That's what I was saying about the... They want you to shoot the driver. The lane is so open that it makes them do one or the other.
Starting point is 01:42:04 But they're talking about the superstar player to be a superstar here you still got like the only person who played in the three order layup was kind of like curry yeah right that's the one who survived and he still had the pump fade going there for but for the most part him and dame kind of performed very well in that three order lay james hardin too yeah other than that you know for the most part man most of our kind of performed very well in that three or delay James Harden to Yeah, yeah other than that, you know for the most part man Most of our superstars throughout history from the beginning of time to now It's been mid-range with those tomorrow's ends all of them. Yeah, the bar's all over the chair
Starting point is 01:42:37 Oh, those three has dominated though those those three no, but that's what I'm saying. They are the ones who changed the game It's in your name. What is that? No, but that's what I'm saying. They are the ones who changed the game is since you're they help But that's what the influence of them plan that way make you think that I'd rather shoot a three to the two Dame is James Motherfuckin know your mama you took them. God your mama told you don't hang out with who right? But is it bad influences? All right bad bad influence bad influences for the boys. They go be cool.
Starting point is 01:43:04 Stop that bad influences man. Like, you know, like even them B plays in that mid-range. But it just seems like, you know, it looks like there's a lot more it. No, that doesn't look like there
Starting point is 01:43:16 is a lot more threes is because exactly what it is. If Harden's driving and you decide your ass want to bring your ass all the way over here, which you should yeah shoot that three Like this three and that's what it's all now these guys who never gets the ball Like, you know if if this was like back when Jordan played or cold played and we're playing with his offense now
Starting point is 01:43:38 You're talking about every time Kobe drove Lamar shooting 10 threes now. Yeah, instead of Derek. Right, George. Luke Walms. George, Luke Walms. Devin George. Devin George sitting through, they're shooting the most threes now. And that's what it looks like.
Starting point is 01:43:54 So instead of me sitting here doing this and trying to, I can just pass it to you. And now, coaches told you to shoot the ball instead of get the ball back to me. So is KD saying that the Stars is actually going in there to pass? No, no, he's saying they're going in there to score. They're going in there to score. We're doing what we're doing. He's basically saying that the elite is still playing in there. They're still playing in there.
Starting point is 01:44:16 Okay, so what was the part where he's saying to pass to Dorian Smith? He's not doing it. That's what the game, that's what the game won't do. I thought he was saying like the game is played as if. So he's saying saying I'm gonna take this mid range over this to over me Open door and finish. Oh Basically, I'm gonna sit here and do my three pump fake The day that's why he's saying it's a burden to have your mid range so you don't have to pass to the corner nigger. Yeah. See, see I know what I'm saying. I'm not playing.
Starting point is 01:44:46 I'm not playing. I'm not playing. But that's what I'm saying. It's like, like. Dorian eating his ass in the gym, man. They start hitting that shit like Bruce Bowen. And that's, and that's the bad part. The bad part is not that these, something is wrong with the superstar.
Starting point is 01:45:00 The problem is the superstarars passing it to guys, that's not their thing, but the coach is telling them do that. Yeah. Shoot that shot. Yeah. Make it your thing. Make it your thing. In order for you to get on the floor,
Starting point is 01:45:16 you gotta make this your thing. Or having private conversations with the star, like listen, I need you to get a guy some confidence, like I know you can make this shit out of him sometime. Hey, but sometimes I need you to throw it over to him. I need you to throw a guy some confidence. I know you can make this To throw it over to him so to give me help this confidence shit like we need him on the floor We don't like like as much as we like complain about being Simmons not shooting the shots Imagine if he just said fuck it, I'm gonna just, you throw it over, I'm gonna shoot it.
Starting point is 01:45:45 I'm gonna shoot that shit, right? I'm gonna shoot it, fuck it, you know what I mean? He gonna keep throwing it to me, I'm gonna throw it. We would sit here and be like, yo, come on, dawg. Stop doing that shit. And he's the smartest one, he's like, yo, this is not my dick, man, I'm not gonna sit here and just suck 10 threes up just to do this shit.
Starting point is 01:46:03 And y'all just keep yelling at me, shoot it, shoot it, shoot it. Because y'all need ten more threes in because if they're looking at like you know man we need five more threes and they're like yo Ben you got seven open shots that is like yeah I know they go stay open motherfuckers reason they go stay set and that's the problem he's not taking the shots that some of these guys are just chucking up and Kevin Durenda you know, I'd rather take this two on four people versus just- But that's a star mentality anyway. Like I said, it's why Walker said, man, I trust my shot more than I trust yours. I'm not going to throw it to you.
Starting point is 01:46:34 I don't trust you. I'm cool. Let's see, the coach is now saying, hey- You better. Yeah, you better. You gotta throw it to him. You gotta trust him now. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:46:42 Because it look obvious. He's looking obvious. He's one for 45. The 45 the last game why would I throw it over there coach but you know something's like we sitting there like like I is what makes us is what makes me mad at Holly to pass it to Siakam yeah right is Holly yo yo you do you to shooter Siakam is the mid-range guy and you you sit here wide open And then you gonna pass him cuz he's that's a better shot and I'm sitting like I really you just
Starting point is 01:47:14 Yo 25 seems a little bit better He's gonna take he's gonna pass he's gonna do this How you could have just took the first one, man. Shoot the first one. That's 17. Yeah, same. We ain't feelin' it. That's 17 saves on the shot clock.
Starting point is 01:47:51 We could've had this exact same fuckin' heat. Run it again. Holly, look, why he shoot this shit right here? Why don't we? Oh shit. Yeah, how many of them? Pumpfake, Wonder, and then did the same? Listen, dawg.
Starting point is 01:48:02 Yeah. Oh shit. Like even TJ, that's what makes TJ good. He plays in that realm that's unguarded. He plays in the superstar realm. Absolutely. And he understands it. But he just don't have a midi.
Starting point is 01:48:14 Like if he had a real midi. You don't have a midi midi. He had a midi. He got that in the paint. Whatever that is. I believe. I'm looking for his little hat. He's like that nice.
Starting point is 01:48:24 I'm looking for his little. He's like that night. Nasty. He had a barrio out there. People like TJ, I was like, he's been in that hype for that for a long time. He had to perfect that. That's what Kawhi kills at, man. He's a mid-range killer. He's a mid-range killer.
Starting point is 01:48:40 So we asked the chat, should the NBA shoot more mid-range shots? 91% of the chat says yes. It seems like a loss argument. Like you said, they've expanded the floor now. There's wide open. Wide open. Less than 10%. That's crazy. That's wild.
Starting point is 01:48:53 When you really think about it. Just trying to, like, tell you what you see when that motherfucking flow go like this. And you see nothing but just, this is just laying up. And then you see everybody collapsing. He's open, but he can't shoot. I guess, I guess just the two teams. They want you to throw it to Vando.
Starting point is 01:49:08 I guess just the two teams that, that was really glorified a lot, that made it seem like the mid-range is gone, was Golden State and Boston. Yeah. Facts. But copycat league, Phoenix kind of played a little. But I'm talking about the superstars in those two teams,
Starting point is 01:49:23 shot a lot of threes and stayed away kind of from that mid-range. Yeah. Like when you think about the two teams, those star players, it's like, nah. I wasn't a bad basketball player. Melo used to make use of the double team. Melo used to fake that bitch, nigga.
Starting point is 01:49:37 I was like, nah. Oh, the fake pass. Fake the pass. The reverse Magic Johnson. I'ma look, no pass. Yeah, yeah. Trying to fake y'all over there. Fake'm a look. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Trying to fake y'all over there. Fake y'all over there.
Starting point is 01:49:49 Go. Go. Go. Go. Go. Go. Go. No look pass over here.
Starting point is 01:49:54 No look shot. No look shot. This boy here, listen. I get it. I get it. I guess I guess. That's well, let's keep this. Oh, we fuck with him. You feel though. Hey damn y'all just look me out Look at you start getting low in the seat You look up I'm like hey, we might even wave you always do think I might wave you too. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead.
Starting point is 01:50:45 Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead.
Starting point is 01:50:53 Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead.
Starting point is 01:51:01 Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. As much as I did it, just watching it, the most disrespectful play in basketball is this shit. When a nigga pulls it up, come here, come here, and get yo ass. That's the whole, man if you don't, damn man. That's the whole, man, if you don't, damn, man. The thing, the coldest shit is, he don't even feel sorry for you.
Starting point is 01:51:30 Like, if he's sitting there and got it wide open, he's like, move. Maybe like, aw, man, he's like, ah, ah. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over.
Starting point is 01:51:42 Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Turn it over. Got that motherfucker. What did you turn your back? Whole bloody you gotta be to watch watch somebody just like I'm all disappointed. Yeah, you're stealing your shit really You might just fill that side I don't make it. Oh shit. You might as well just stay on that side. But if you miss it, come down and do it again. Wave you two again.
Starting point is 01:52:09 We got to say something to you in time out. That's a different breed, baby. That's a different mentality. Oh man. PTSD, yeah. Know that move very well, but let's keep this in the... I'm in great position right now. You had great position.
Starting point is 01:52:24 I worked hard for this. I worked hard. I worked hard. position right now. You have great position. I worked hard for this. I got an upper under for you. He didn't check beneath the ass. Then he didn't bring the blood on the floor. He got low steel. Look, he's low. Give it to me. I got an upper under weight.
Starting point is 01:52:39 Look, look, look. Good posture. I got him. Look. Joe, get your ass up. Three seconds, Joe. Three, Joe. I got him. Get your ass up. Three seconds, Joe. Three, Joe. Sometimes you got to get to three to let him know.
Starting point is 01:52:51 The root's over. Three. Hey, you get to three seconds to let him know. Come on, dude. Hey, motherfucking Rudy got Trey Young down there, motherfucker. They waving him the fuck out, man. If you don't get the him the fuck out, man. If you don't get the fuck out of here, man.
Starting point is 01:53:07 Every time y'all don't give me the ball, it's three seconds. He got Trey Young head under the rim, and nigga, they getting waved. Niggas be on some bullshit, but they're sitting there down there pretending we can't see. I don't see, he behind you, bro. I just hit four straight. Going for the fifth I'm trying to pick you over we getting mad Don't let me wave you then you come set the pick Stupid motherfucker walk by walk by the coach man. Give me fuck up game, man You had a motherfucker that wouldn that wouldn't go away though.
Starting point is 01:53:46 So you had to roll it to him because he's like, you rolled it to him. All slow so you all get doubled. You give him the loop. There you go, bro. Take that. Take the shit right there with you. And then cut. Bring the defense right to him.
Starting point is 01:54:04 Slow cut too. Yeah, you go past this bitch. Baseline cut. Bring the defense right to us. Slow cut too. Yeah, you go past this bitch. Baseline cut. Oh yeah, you gotta throw me this bitch right here. Walk by knocking on his, you go by snapping on his hand like. That's diabolical right there. Out of bounds on his leg and shit. Yes.
Starting point is 01:54:21 That's fantastic. See, that's why I throw it to him and he travel with it. Oh, never again. You throw it to him and he travel or some shit. Listen, dog. Hey, yeah, dog. Sorry. Absolutely.
Starting point is 01:54:41 Right by the big toe. Right over to the big toe. Sorry, ass. Hey, man, get him the fuck out coach be like Bob down Hey you come through it all right come through it in his ass. I'm not swinging it to me over here All right, well let's see Let's keep this thing moving I mean, I suck they keep doing
Starting point is 01:55:01 Let's keep this thing moving. They had to break them up. I mean, I mean, sometimes somebody suck their teeth during the game. No, that should be the funniest shit. How many of them would it be? All four of us at the time, looking at the coach like, you want to run this shit. Oh, trust me.
Starting point is 01:55:15 Sub, sub at the table for you. Yeah. Try to tell your ass not to give him the ball. You won't keep giving it to him. He traveled four times in a row. Let's shift over to- Please throw it down here. Shift over- I just tell him, hey,
Starting point is 01:55:29 you can duck in on me, I know I'm sorry. Oh, listen. Throw it to him. Please! Yeah. I'm begging you, throw that motherfucker down here. You open! He's open.
Starting point is 01:55:39 What? Throw it to him. Come on. Another straight. Chuck Hayes, duck in, throw that motherfucker down here. Oh my gosh. Chuck Hayes duckie and throw that motherfucker down. Oh my gosh. The clip that's out there of him on the line by himself is us and Denver.
Starting point is 01:55:53 Why, how do you think he got on the line by himself? He foul-ed him. Intentionally. Yes, nigga, hard. On the line by himself. And Chuck's like, yeah, we all like that's a travel. That's a travel. Yes, he ducked in on me, nigga.
Starting point is 01:56:11 Throw it to him. Please. He open. He open wide open. Why? I'm like, no. Hand behind my back. You gonna throw it to him.
Starting point is 01:56:21 He go right across his shit. Listen. He gonna travel at the line. Hey, yeah Should've called his damn shows a travel and lane violation all the money been a double dribble This is y'all wait, have they ever called a travel at a free throw? You should have they would they would have they would have they should have on the line. They should have You can move on Okay, I think I no trouble. I'm never scared.
Starting point is 01:56:48 It was a lane violation. You can jump up and shoot that bitch like a jump shot. Just don't cross the line. You can shoot a three actually. I'm strange today but yeah. In the next level of NBA. I like to listen boy. There's been a few people in the league that we,
Starting point is 01:57:05 that you can lock them in that bitch by theyself and you throw it to them and have a hard time motherfucker scoring in that motherfucker. Trust me. Hey, have a hard time scoring in that motherfucker. So them the guys we speak of. All right. Well, let's keep this moving. Head over to Eastern Conference. Mike Brown was introduced as the 32nd head coach
Starting point is 01:57:24 in Nick's franchise history Tuesday. God, I like the preemptive smoke today. He outlined his goal for this Nick squad. Our goal, starting with Mr. Dolan, to Leon, to the players, all the way down to the fans,
Starting point is 01:57:54 is to build a sustainable, a sustainable winning culture that produces championships. That's why I'm here. Sustainable? Yeah. This clip. Hey, man, different ways. Sustainable, sustainable. Say it. So Brown, two-time NBA coach of the year, won four chips as an assistant coach, won with the Spurs 2003-3 with the Warriors, also helped end the Kings 16 season playoff
Starting point is 01:58:24 drought in 2016. Brown two-time NBA coach of the year one for chips as an assistant coach one with the Spurs 2003 three with the Warriors Also help in the King 16 season playoff drought in 2023 Nick's are coming off back-to-back 51 seasons first Eastern Conference finals appearance since 2000 So looking at all this and we talked about this prior to Mike Brown being named Nick's head coach But whoever was gonna take that job was a successful season for Mike Brown in his first year with the Knicks? Not to get fired. Just to still be employed. Still be employed.
Starting point is 01:58:54 Was this a multi-year deal? I believe so. They put them on a one-year deal. Yeah, they do be over-committing. I think everybody should get one-year deals. Team, I'll get on the second year. Everyone can get one-year deals. At this point, I want everybody should get one year deals. Team option on the second year. Everyone can win this game. At this point, I want all coaches.
Starting point is 01:59:07 Everybody. Everybody's on a one year, bro. I'm just surprised that it hasn't happened. The way they just firing them looks like, especially just two team options after the first. A lot of guys shouldn't see how they jive. This should be one year deals, man. One year with a team option.
Starting point is 01:59:23 Give everybody an opportunity. You're giving everybody opportunities. It's like nothing against the coaches. It's like the way they firing is like, what's the point? Lakers, Milwaukee, y'all. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We've committed too much bread to all these coaches be fired.
Starting point is 01:59:35 Definitely one year deals. I'm with you. It ain't got nothing to do with the coaches. It's like the motherfuckers up there just don't know what they doing. They don't know what they want or nothing. You want 50? I had you for 32. Fired. Fired.
Starting point is 01:59:46 Wait what? So I get the whole 32? I'll take the 32. I'll take the 32. You don't want to talk about this? I'll take the 32. You don't want to talk about this? I'll take the 32.
Starting point is 01:59:54 I'll take the 32. You don't want to talk about this? I'll take the 32. I'll take the 32. I'll take the 32. You don't want to talk about this? I'll take the 32. I'll take the 32.
Starting point is 02:00:02 You don't want to talk about this? I'll take the 32. I'll take the 32. You don't want to talk about this? I'll take the 32. I'll take the 32, I'll take the 30. You don't wanna talk about this? I get to go home and you take it home and talk about this? I'm gonna take some games like, I wanna do Utah job. God damn. You not playing tonight. You not playing tonight. I got that.
Starting point is 02:00:16 All y'all not playing tonight. Four years, 40 million for Mike Brown. This niggas winning too much. They still hold tips 30 million as well. Huh? They still hold tips? Four years, 40 million for Mike Brown and they still owe tips 30. Oh, they got 70 on the books.
Starting point is 02:00:28 Lord! For no reason. Back to back 51 seasons. First Eastern Conference Finals of Paris since 2000. His expectation, I mean he has to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Like all that championship talk, just come in here and just say it, man. Look, I'm here. You done fired the last motherfucker for good reason.
Starting point is 02:00:49 You know what I mean? I'm just here to fire a motherfucker. OK, so let's go, Nick. Where did Mike win at? Himself? Mike Brown. Where? I mean, he changed the coach for Zack.
Starting point is 02:01:03 He didn't win no championship? No. He got assistance. He got four. He got four Scottie Pippen championships. Not to get Scottie because those are important but just not the way they use them. Not the way they treat them. That's all I'm saying. Hope you don't run into Scottie out here. No I'm a Scottie fan. Scottie confrontation. I don't know if you know no No, see that's the problem, but I don't know if you know that or not. Huh? I don't know if you know I was I was I was big poker up. Oh, yeah, he called me he confrontation No, no, but I know see we don't have the conversation. Okay, I cool So and those conversations is exactly what I'm speaking of. Okay. Yeah, I mean treating me like I was one of the main reasons of this
Starting point is 02:01:45 I'm not treated like I should magic Johnson down like a motherfucker. I'm not treating me like that I'm not getting my flowers and he walked around with that step on his show. That's enough. That's the conversation that The guys that are doing Just much lifting The God this is the star, but I'm the one that's making shit of gases in this motherfucker too,
Starting point is 02:02:09 and I'm the one, hey you top, I got you, and y'all not giving the flowers. It's like all 12 roses are going to him. I should get at least three, two. You're not giving me none. And that's the issue. You know what I mean? That's his real problem. At least my mother who who getting the 12 flowers
Starting point is 02:02:30 Hey, bro, you know get at least four of it. I did You enjoy man, you got the golf course and all that do shit do I got a do I got a whole whole life, dude. Yeah. Whole life, dude. Is there a Pippin 33 all of a sudden, man? Don't give your country boy shit, man. Don't give your country boy nothing, man. Do I get a free membership? Take your ass back to Arkansas, nigga. Make a choice, nigga. The funny part is, is like, it's real.
Starting point is 02:03:03 Oh, yeah. Like, dang, that ain't like, you know. What Shay did is what the past didn't do. Like what Shay do, hey now, this is, yeah my boy, this we won. He's the reason we won. He helped me win and a lot of the past didn't do that for those second options and you know. so back to Mike Brown, you know,
Starting point is 02:03:26 yeah, he got four of those. Yeah, he got four of them. But he's a good coach, man. I like Mike Brown. I think he's got a bad deal in his spots. I don't think he was given the leeway for a lot of other coaches that a lot of other coaches has been afforded
Starting point is 02:03:46 due to the color of his skin unfortunately. Yeah I said it. Yeah. Just what it is man. He's been successful in places and got fired. Like there's just what it is. Two coaching years and you own your like that's the proof is in the pudding. Kings had not made the playoff 16 season. Something happened. Something happened in sack. Something happened in sack that was unaddressed publicly. That's probably lingering as an uncertain point of Mike Brown getting to the mix. Figuring out if you can duplicate trying to get what? Number two? Like he got in sack, it was number two, number three? It was three seed.
Starting point is 02:04:23 You had a De'Aaron Fox, you had a bonus, you had, you know, everything was looking good and it all fell apart. So. Is that 50 picks? Yeah, but I think he demands, he demands you play a certain way. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:04:36 Like he demands. Tives did too. Yeah, so therefore I don't think they're gonna lose nothing in that regard, right? He's gonna do it different than Tives, I think the relationship with the players will be different because he's more personable I think he's more in that regard so practices with him to know their let so the relationship would be different and all out the air and they're gonna play
Starting point is 02:04:56 harder they're gonna that's what did it for them yeah in the film set I did it public it was a bad shot right he did He did it publicly. I think it was a get back on defense. Yeah, whatever it was, he said it publicly. It was weird as hell. He said it publicly. He came out at the press conference. The press conference he said. Yeah, it was that.
Starting point is 02:05:12 I think it was a foul. There's nothing wrong with that though. It was like a dump file. No, it's not, but if they say, they saying it was happening periodically of him. Cool, it's for sure. You know, an Indian can take accountability for certain things, but I don't know if it's
Starting point is 02:05:26 excessive you talk about dealing with a star but you got brunson and his dad over there there's no such thing as excessive if the if the behavior doesn't change in regards to what whatever you whatever if he was constantly on Darren Fox then Darren Fox Then Darren Fox was constantly doing something to be on his ass about That's the same thing in Milwaukee when old boy lost his job Adrian Griffin we like I immediately knew it was accountability there like he's making them players face accountability Somebody's going against that. He gotta go right? You gotta pay me.
Starting point is 02:06:03 D'Aaron Fox we found out D'Aaron Fox don't like that shit. You coming at me a certain way. You got to go. So what you going to do in New York? Still got to pay me. Hey, like Fizz did. I'm going home to my beautiful wife in my beautiful house. And so is it a win higher? Well, I think you look at the Knicks, 2026 NBA Championship odds, they have the second, third, shortest odds, depending on which sportsbook you look at.
Starting point is 02:06:31 So the New York Knicks. This is before they got coached. New York Knicks are going to the- They're going to the chip! I mean, just from the last couple of like, four, five, whoever went to the Eastern Conference, whoever lost in the Eastern Conference Championship- The next year. The next year they went to the championship. So I'm just going the last couple of like four five whoever went to the East and Conver, whoever lost in the East and Converse Championship the next year they went to the championship. So I'm just going off of that. Going on history. Okay, Steve y'all got history on y'all side So New York City just be perfect. If we just going off of history, it's y'all history to fuck up. Mike Brown in a great spot with this roster. Yes
Starting point is 02:07:02 Brought in with Marks and Martin Gershaw from LA. He's been gifted something he could take advantage of that's why Mark Jackson so upset right now We're gonna talk more Jackson this sector. They were dressing this on He just got the motherfucking keys to a brand new fucking house New car the bra river. All he got to do is nigga. Don't run the house down and don't wreck the car cut the lights off I don't need don't be a nigga Run the house down and don't wreck the car. Cut the lights off. Don't be a nigga. Don't be a nigga.
Starting point is 02:07:24 Don't be a nigga. Don't be a nigga. Don't leave the lights on and sit. They got white furniture in there, motherfucker. Take your shoes off. God damn. Don't smoke in the living room. On the white couch.
Starting point is 02:07:34 Don't do all that shit. Don't sit smoking in the living room, nigga. Shit. Yeah, that's all they ask you about. Don't laugh the stove open, man. Don't fuck it up. That's all I'm saying. Clean up. That's all. Niggas are here, man.
Starting point is 02:07:45 Clean up. Just don't ask on the white guy. Do what you do best. Yes. Coach. Go coach basketball and hold these dudes accountable. And let's do it a little different than the last guy. We're not actually changing.
Starting point is 02:07:57 Let's do it a little different. Because he was successful. Let's not make it like Tibbs was. Tibbs was successful there. So let's just do it a little, whatever. You shouldn't have got fired. I mean, just even Mike Brown get in fire. Like even Mike Brown get in fire.
Starting point is 02:08:14 It don't make any sense. Like what is going on? It doesn't make any sense, man. Are we looking for results? This is what I'm asking, right? Realistic results. So my team is always in. Sacramento, when Keith winning the championship,
Starting point is 02:08:24 that's not realistic. Tyrone Lue, Chauncey Billups, they still got jobs. Yeah. Mike Brown, Chivs, they don't got jobs. Both of these guys have propelled, I ain't gonna say further, but Tyrone got, he got real resume. He's been there, but has an accomplished sense where he should go. Chauncey got the job on potential
Starting point is 02:08:46 of what you could do. He'd been there long enough to be like, all right, where's the result? But Mike Brown, too straight. Tibbs, too straight. Y'all got to go. What is it? What is it? I don't know, man. I just look at... Like even Bud, like it just... So if... Bud going out there, boom! The thing is, so I look at Tibbs as a coach like Mike Tomlin.
Starting point is 02:09:12 Right? All right. I might not win it every year, but we gonna motherfucking be above 500. We gonna compete. We gonna fight. And we might throw one in and out again if you give me the tools to do it with.
Starting point is 02:09:28 But I'm gonna be successful. And that's not good enough in the NBA, which is crazy to me though. Like, being consistently successful, it's not good enough. But Tomlin took it over the top. Remember that. And then Tibbs had a, he had a bend,
Starting point is 02:09:47 but that bend got cut short with the injury with Derrick. Derrick Rose, yeah, I don't know. So a lot of his. And he still succeeded. He still got, he still. That's what I'm saying. But never, as far as that comparison, I agree because of the, you would say,
Starting point is 02:09:59 the stubbornness of what we want in our organization. That's Tomlin, he not, he not set the side. We gonna do it my way, we gonna play this way. We gonna. That's Tom. He not he not sight. We're going to my way. We're going to play this way. I'm not going to deviate. This is the difference is tips have gotten there but never gotten there cool. But so how long do you give him?
Starting point is 02:10:13 I think the same I gave Sloan. Yeah, 20 years. Yeah, with my wife. What? Because that's one because that's because of the two players that he had. I ran up one of those two players never won two players that he had. I ran up one. But those two players never won nothing.
Starting point is 02:10:27 Then who they won, ran up against. It was a system he created with those two players that lasted 20 years. But then he bring in Darren Wimms, Carlos Bouz, they run the same system. But you got this coach that's built the, he's built the culture. These guys, like, I don't even know if they're coaching for the future. And that's built the, he's built the culture. These guys, like, I don't even know if they're coaching for the future. And that's the problem. They're coaching for their jobs today.
Starting point is 02:10:51 And if I'm coaching for my job today, I'm not doing what I, like if you are a good teacher of fundamentals and you like, oh I see some real good shit in them, I can really, you give me three, four years, I can turn them into a superstar mark Jack now you're like yeah I'm good. You know I mean I'm not gonna I'm not messing with the kids I never I don't know if I'm gonna be with him I'm gonna be here and that's that's what ends up happening
Starting point is 02:11:14 So like me what Portland is doing over there with Chauncey? I respect more you're giving him a chance to understand put his put his mojo into these guys That's gonna take three, four years. Now, if you fire him next year, and then they start turning into superstars, it's not the new coach. Yep. The new coach didn't do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:11:35 It's the seeds that was planted. Already. I'm planting these seeds. He's gonna pick the fucking fruit. And it got him. I'm ordering them. He's gonna come pick the fruit. Yeah, I'm ordering them.
Starting point is 02:11:43 The trees is what I'm making sure I'm trimming them so they don't fucking cloud each other doing this. And then now you fire me these motherfuckers 10 foot tall now they want to bear fruit. Now you eating them. And everybody, oh look at them. The fruit done came. But look, they just got rid of Simon's. They got rid of Aiden. Like they literally are offloading what he was building. He was pouring into the inside. He wasn't as one of his guys. No, he was dumped in his job. Jeremy Grant, Simon, I mean, but he had dumped there. Simon was driving before he got there.
Starting point is 02:12:14 So Scoot is really what? Scoot is his. Scoot is his. Jeremy Grant. Yeah, Jeremy Grant was there before him. Yeah, Jeremy and Simon. You're gonna keep him. You're gonna keep him.
Starting point is 02:12:24 Should, but they not. They gonna move on. They're gonna keep him. You're gonna keep him. Should, but they not, they gonna move on. No, they gotta keep him. They gonna move, somebody gonna give him some future stuff. He gonna be one of those things. They're not gonna keep Chauncey around for the next wave. They got it. Danny is a good one from the Wizards.
Starting point is 02:12:41 That was a good one for him. Yeah, for sure. He was a fucking wild card. They didn't know he was there. I didn't know, yeah. He was a good one. Yeah, for sure. He was a fucking wild card. They didn't know he was a great pick. Pull up their roster. Sharp. They got a bunch of kids that kind of do like... And you don't really know that they can do it until you watch them.
Starting point is 02:13:00 They all got a little wiggle, but... Like I said, man man it's all system. Sharp, Brandt, Scoot. Yeah Sharp, Scoot, Danny. Who's the big? Ain't got no big. Kamar was alright. No big though. But that's what I'm saying like something like that. Kalinka, a big boy from New York. But that's what I'm saying with a group like that like. But that's it yeah oh they just got him. But that's what I'm saying like him, like you coach him for four or five more years to see what's going to turn into, then that's what I'm gonna judge you. And then he would be considered a rare, a rare commodity if he
Starting point is 02:13:39 gets another four years. Chauncey gets another four years in Portland, he's one of them Tyrone Lues in the league. Yeah, but that's what I'm saying. Give him opportunity. If I'm Portland, what is my real, like me firing him to do what? What did I expect him to do? Right now, and then you go get another guy, now you're starting all over again. Yeah, like what am I really expecting? That's the question he asked with Boo Hosier and all the other guys who get fired after
Starting point is 02:14:02 that one or two years. It's like, well, if y'all letting them last five, six to build, why can't you do the same thing? I can't last with my guys. We went here back to back. If we give up, give me the same time you get him. We just went back to back in two. Come on, bro.
Starting point is 02:14:16 Give me some more time. That's what they did in Oklahoma City. They got the young guy. He's growing with them. He just grow with them. Just to grow with them. So now when they become successful now, it's like they got the same voice. We did this together.
Starting point is 02:14:26 So yeah. How much time he got? He had four years though. Yeah, but it's just that they drafted well. They're not, it's they- Like that's what I said, like when you look back at Sloan, when you look back at like what made Pat Riley, same thing with Spo, right?
Starting point is 02:14:40 It is hard for the star player, right? To do what the star player does If I don't like you today nigga, you fight right? If upper management and the coach are on the same same plan if I know I can oversee of just go over the coaches head No plus our player gonna do it every goddamn time when it was something don't go his way That's just the prima donna and just players right? So the player, the coaches that stay the longest, these two are together. Yeah. 100%. So if the players know, hey I can't go against you too, the players fall in line, right? They've done had enough coaches to know which
Starting point is 02:15:21 ones play the bullshit and which ones you didn't. You know we've done we done got here we done we done have some coaches we couldn't say shit to. Right and we performed very well and there's coaches we can run all over and we perform very well so to us it don't matter who you bring in we go hey y'all this is how many coaches you had at? Yeah. He's done did the same shit on all of them so so really listening to him really don't matter right? It's the coach that's gonna make everybody accountable That's what made pop good That's what made Riley good. That's what made feel good That's what made most of these coaches that at the elite level done coach for 15 20 years
Starting point is 02:16:02 It's they are holding everybody accountable. That's that's what it is. That's why Michael Malone lost his job. Yep. Okay. Cause he tried to hold. You gotta, but he had been holding them accountable prior to up until, Hey, it's really time for us to win guys. You, you taking your foot off the gas, Michael.
Starting point is 02:16:27 Come on, MPJ. Come off the gas Michael come on MPJ come on look come on now it's like man what the fuck is you talking about man so I get it I mean now I've been in locker rooms I a J I've been there what you talking about hey you got any new coaches you looking at? I'm gonna go ahead sign off on that one. So let's talk about interesting wrench in this next situation. I've seen it. KG and Wally Zerbiak. Argument. Next day.
Starting point is 02:16:57 It be over done. Out of here. Never seen that in that path. You give me 48 minutes every game. And then sell me out at the wrong time. Oh, okay, that's what we on? All right. And then it's call that time out after I got dunked on
Starting point is 02:17:16 so it's all over SportsCenter. Okay. You can't take all the, you can't just shoot every time, man. We're out here too. Say what? I mean, we could take the last side. You don't have to take every last side, man.
Starting point is 02:17:30 You can swing the ball. What the fuck? I think a Rick Satman ran here. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, guys, don't worry. Don't worry. Well, one of us won't be worried. That thing was gone. We'll be moving.
Starting point is 02:17:44 You will relocate. But in later news in this next situation, You'd be going far. One of us would be going. They think it was gone. One of us would be moving. One of us would be moving. He would relocate. But it lay the news in this next situation. So according to Safan Bani of the New York Post, Brown expected to hire a new associate head coach, demote Rick Brunson into a lesser role. Lesser was in quotations. So according to the report, it's viewed as a gesture by the organization to give Brown more control while simultaneously addressing the distractions or perceptions of conflicts of interest that arose last
Starting point is 02:18:07 season by having the star players father as the top assistant. So according to report Rick Brunson is on board with this. Yeah of course. I'm on board. Oh no you're either going to be here or you're not. There's no end, there's no line with this. Listen it's a conflict of interest. Do you know who my son is? Just call him what he is. Do you know who my agent is? The fact that they retained him, the fact that they retained him is impressive. Look, the fact that they kept him on the staff, so.
Starting point is 02:18:33 So how will Rick Brunson's demotion impact the next season? So he's the new her. He's just gonna have. Listen, the fact that they gotta say this out loud lets me know bullshit. Like, nobody, who was thinking about Rick Brunson? Well, what you mean? Like, media-wise.
Starting point is 02:18:50 I mean, just outside. So the fact that you're coming in and this is what you wanna, he's gonna get demoted so we don't have to worry about him, y'all. Like, aye. The fact that you gotta even bring that up. But he's still here. But it's a thing though.
Starting point is 02:19:01 My son took less money. It's a thing. Y'all can put out whatever y'all want. I'm behind the scenes. I'm the one with the eyes out here. But it's a thing though. My son took less money It's a thing And the people up there that's one group Leon that's all one group yes Mike Brown who you want Here take a back. See what you who you want Rick who you Are you cool with Mike Brown? Yeah You know, Rick, who do you like? Rick, are you cool with Mike Brown? Yeah, I like Mike.
Starting point is 02:19:28 Where you gonna put me? We gonna put you behind the bitch. Ah, back, back, back. Whatever. Back. All right, listen. That was my check. We see what happens when they let you run.
Starting point is 02:19:39 You better have that job or not have it. Whatever role, whatever capacity it is. So did they fire anybody? I mean I'm sure Mike Brown bringing in his staff man. Besides just him. Brunson will be retained. Just Tibbs? Huh? Just Tibbs? I'm sure some of Tibbs guys will. You know it's a regime change though. You want to keep Mocheeks on the bench also? Not Mocheeks. Mocheeks not the patch also. I got Mo Cheeks. Mo Cheeks is not Tibbs guy. Yeah, he's the one responsible for it. So Tibbs is open.
Starting point is 02:20:09 Mo Cheeks is really in the path. He always is. Mo is always on the back, Cheeks. He always there. He's a good coach. He's solid. When he want his spot, he'll motherfucking move some shit around.
Starting point is 02:20:20 I think Mike Brown was trying to get a Borrego from the Pelicans. Pelicans said you got to fuck off stay here in New Orleans So eat this gumbo Mo smooth, mr. Smooth obviously former player you look at a coaching hierarchy. Do the assistance really matter? This cup keep fucking recycling these damn assistance around the NBA man. Same old niggas How much power do they really have though in that system hierarchy on the team? Like social head coach is that? It gives you power over the other assistance. Okay
Starting point is 02:20:55 What's on your paycheck man Associated assistant player development is just how much money you're going to go and they're going to pay you, that's it. Coaching is just no different than. Cuz he only going to listen to one of the motherfuckers over there. Whoever he is, he's only going to, whoever the top guy is, the only person he's going to listen to. Or the one he respects, right? It's always one.
Starting point is 02:21:17 Like Mo. Yeah. Or whoever he brings in is that associated with coach. It's always going to be, when doing a game, the one that's always getting up talking to him the one is So do you see any perceived or potential Situations that could arise from this situation Like what?
Starting point is 02:21:37 This thing the next thing after demoted is what? molded as what? Oh no, I'm just asking. Rick could be upstairs before he's off the team. He's still gonna be around. I'm just saying he won't be on the bench either way. He's a light, he's unsigned. Even just picking coaches, you got to pick coaches no different than just players themselves, right? Some guys are head coaches. Some guys are assistant, right? Just like option ones and there's some guys as option twos, right? And sometimes they grab option twos and try to put them as option ones.
Starting point is 02:22:21 And then obviously the assistant is going to be option three and we like no no no make you know get the option one and like nah because you're gonna fire me. You know what I mean? So it's it's you gotta you gotta understand who some of y'all personnel is when y'all picking coaches right you know and some guys are just they got that voice they got that they know how to lead and you gotta have somebody that's with them that knows his role, that knows how to.
Starting point is 02:22:50 He ain't gonna kick your back. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he gonna fall for it. He gonna be, it's your message, but maybe delivered a little differently at times. No, no, no. Right? Yeah, it's, I might tell you to sit the fuck down and you might be like, listen, he just,
Starting point is 02:23:07 hey man, just gotta go with orders, have a seat. That's the disconnect. You gotta learn how to talk to them a little bit better now because they ain't, they a lot more sensitive. You know what I'm saying? I might say it, but you gonna come behind me and be like, listen, he just... Yeah.
Starting point is 02:23:17 Just missed it. One thing is the system that you come in with as a coach is gonna delegate behavior that you want to expect from your players based on that system that you come in with as a coach same as going to delegate behavior that you want to expect from your players based on that system positions responsibilities accountability our system is our system like you say pop had a system of both sides of the bar accountability requirements all of those things Jerry Sloan the same thing you two guard or three guard and we get the ball and we on a fast break. Bitch run across, across in the bottom.
Starting point is 02:23:49 So all of these things help the culture of your organization and the understanding of every player coming in. We not just coming in and do our own thing. We gotta fit into the system. How, what is this system? What is he expecting of us? So I was gonna let you cook. The expectation is
Starting point is 02:24:09 from the beginning, right? What is my message to you guys? What is my message to the team? Alright? And not deviating from it. Yep. Alright? It's just what, in order to be successful, man,
Starting point is 02:24:20 you gotta set boundaries and shit. Alright? These are things that I'm not gonna tolerate. I'm gonna let you guys have fun. be successful man you got to set boundaries and shit right these are these are things that I'm not gonna tolerate I'm gonna let you guys have fun I'm gonna let you guys play basketball I'm gonna give you freedom to do this and do that but these things are non-negotiable no box-outs no hustle back stop the ball extra pat like bring your ass out the game listen all these things are non-negotiable for in order for us to be successful in order for
Starting point is 02:24:47 I give you the freedom to do these things, but these things I demand and you know, I'm gonna be disappointed in you and if you and don't deviate from that then I think you'll be successful like what was Tex like I'm looking up Tex Winters. He never sat on the bench, huh? As far as coaching? Like standing up? Yeah, like so he is, he's Phil Jackson's number one assistant, but wasn't on the bench as an assistant, right?
Starting point is 02:25:16 I think he was. Was he on the bench? I think he sat on the bench. He sat on the bench or behind the bench? Right behind Phil? According to the AI, I don't like, according to the AI, I'm not rocking with, but. I don't know, but yeah, he sat on the bench or behind the bench right behind field according to AI. I don't like According to AI I'm not rocking with but I don't know but We he said on the bench though. Yeah, I was trying to figure out if he's
Starting point is 02:25:38 Cuz he was there for every single championship, but sometimes though. He didn't sit directly on the bench or other assistance, right? Okay. Yeah, but that was that was his main assistant Yeah, the whole time yeah, that's the guy that his music getting getting the getting the wrong because he's he just didn't show up in the last two championship. That's the only two championships really. He don't have George call and Gert. Yeah. Yeah, Gert is here for sure.
Starting point is 02:25:56 Gert never sat on the bench and I was his guy. He talked to this fucking guy. Yeah, he didn't talk to nobody. You were you would always be around. Yeah, he's always every stop. Maybe go George's. I mean Gurg is there. All right. So one last thing we got to talk about in this whole Nick situation So mark Jackson spent three seasons a head coach for the Warriors for 2011 to 2014 hasn't coached in the league since Sat on this very couch here in gills arena presented by underdog whoop-whoop
Starting point is 02:26:21 Told us that he still has aspirations to get back into coaching So on Tuesday while Mike Brown was getting introduced as Nick's head coach, Jackson posted this on Instagram. To whom we make this turn, blessings, you're more than qualified. Your resume says you're more than qualified. Your body of work says you're more than qualified. So it's easy to get depressed.
Starting point is 02:26:44 It's easy to get discouraged. It's easy to get discouraged. It's easy to get down. It's easy to have doubt and start questioning. I don't know what I'm talking to him. You didn't pray about it, asked about it, and it didn't happen. Well, it didn't happen for a reason. The worst place to be in this world is outside the will of God. Don't miss your shout. to be in this world is outside the will of God. Don't miss your shout. What's yours is yours. Stay ready so you don't have to get ready.
Starting point is 02:27:11 That's enough to run on. I gotta go. Blessings. Blessings from Mark Jackson. New York legend, played with the Knicks. I guess, Sugar wants some smoke. Sugar's requested smoke, Sugar got smoked. So looking at that, does Mark Jackson deserve another head coaching job in the league?
Starting point is 02:27:32 The time he has when people wonder. I mean, coaching is coaching, man. It's not like that. You know, you out the game for six, seven years, you forget how to coach. Right? So it's, you know, it's you know it's his opportunities it's relationships and you know I don't know relationships he's built you know so the fact that other coaches hasn't put them
Starting point is 02:27:53 on to the coaching staff as assistants or what's the name sometimes it might just be too overqualified right and you know if you know you if you do fear, if you fear him in his coaching style, then you don't want him as assistant because, you know, he can be possibly your replacement and that happens too. So, you know, I don't know what's going on, you know, with why he hasn't got that job
Starting point is 02:28:22 or got a second opportunity, but that's. I mean, I know why, but I'm just speaking just generally. You know, I don't know why. Do he know? No, he know why. Oh, yeah. Okay. What we doing?
Starting point is 02:28:39 We know why. Did you black bar you black ball? Yeah, they either, yeah. We accept being black ball, tell them to kiss our black balls and you just keep going. Keep going, bro, hey, keep jogging. You know it ain't happening.
Starting point is 02:28:57 You knew it wasn't gonna happen when it all happened and went down and everybody not taking a chance on what happened with you and them. I know what that with you and them. I know what that feels like, man. You got to take it. You got to take them up. Shit. The niggas not fucking with you.
Starting point is 02:29:14 They not fucking with you. They not fucking with you, bro. They not. So I got a couple of jerseys at the house. Steve, what's that slogan that your team use? Once a what? Oh, the once a whole always a whole no once in all. What's the one? Basically, all the same thing. My bad.
Starting point is 02:29:35 Same thing said I'm telling them, but hey, always. Hey, so the saying is you're gonna take this way. So the saying is once the Nick always the Nick. Oh, once a Nick, always a Nick. Once a Nick, always a Nick. So I guess that's not true. I guess that's not true for all. It's not true, it's not true. It's not true for all, because if that was true,
Starting point is 02:29:59 then Mark Jackson would be the head coach of the New York Knicks. Ooh. So once a Nick, not always a Knick. Everybody's not always welcome for whatever circumstance. So whatever the situation is, why he hasn't gotten the job, is outweighing the fact that he was a Knick at one point.
Starting point is 02:30:20 Once a Knick is always a Knick. Yeah, if you. Has to be strong. Basically, whatever black ball is going on, as a Nick, that shit be erased. That don't have nothing to do with what over here. I'm Dolan, I don't give a fuck about what y'all talking about. Normally that's the way he approaches it, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:30:36 Normally Dolan run his shit the way he want to run the fuck with everybody else got to say. That shit must be stronger than that. It's bigger than rap. Yep. It's deeper than rap right now. Hey James, stand down. It's deeper than rap. So... Yeah, I just heard that. That's a than rap. It's deeper than rap right now. Hey James, stand down. It's deeper than rap. Yeah, I just thought that's a good one.
Starting point is 02:30:49 It's unfortunate. He does the opposite of everybody else. Well sure, we'll let you know about it. On another, just for Mark, right? Of course we always, and this is for players as well, the NBA is the top upper echelon of what we thrive to play in. It's the top.
Starting point is 02:31:08 It's the pinnacle of basketball is the NBA. But I want people to understand it's not the end all to be all, right? Of course we all wanna play in the NBA. We all wanna make it. But there's other places that you can be successful at and thrive at and get that same thing. And they paying top dollar green money
Starting point is 02:31:31 for that same situation. If they're not letting you in, then let's pivot. Right? Let's pivot. I don't know if he wants to be a college coach. I don't know if he wants to be anything, but he has a resume. He's coaching up good players.
Starting point is 02:31:46 He has the name of his, that he, if he wanted to, I don't know if that's his desire to go coach college, but I'm pretty sure if he put his name in some of them hats, these schools now with the Damon Stoudemire and other people getting jobs and those making, with the NFL guys doing it. I'm pretty sure there would be a, with the Deion doing it. I'm pretty sure there would be, with Deion doing it,
Starting point is 02:32:05 I'm pretty sure there was a lane for him if he wanted to pursue that. But let's not put all our eggs in this one basket, man, and when it don't happen, then that's all we wanna do. Like, no, it's, that's, like, man, why don't sports work the same way as like, Like, man, why don't sports work the same way as like colleges in a sense of if you went to Harvard, there's a pipeline, right? They keep it all in the same.
Starting point is 02:32:36 Duke. Right? Keep it in the same, right? Duke does it. Right? You keep it in the same. So the NBA, and just NFL, all sports. How come the first litter you go after is always outside sources, never the players that went
Starting point is 02:32:55 through. So the players that retired, that you know IQ is high, that want a coaching job, why isn't that the first person you go after why is it always someone else that has no overseas that you just go that you have like you know no offense to but you dr. J coaches you got all these coaches that's that built the NBA and you never gave them opportunities right Kareem has you use a motherfucker every, like something's happening, but you never gave him a real opportunity to coach. Like, like Pip, you never gave him opportunity to coach.
Starting point is 02:33:32 Like there's- Patrick Nguyen was the head coach of college. He don't get the opportunity to coach the Knicks. Come on. You can practice that shit. At least give him a chance. Yeah, cause he did 13 years of coaching some shit. Let's stop him.
Starting point is 02:33:44 He was already there to know the whole shit. Then he went there to do more shit. Pat went to college because they wouldn't let him in the league. And they thought his job was available. And it's like, you don't think your fans are going to appreciate it? If this is the real coach, then I got a face coach. Pat, you the face. Yeah, come sit beside.
Starting point is 02:34:04 And then he go. So look what the Mavericks did. Motherfuckin' Jason Kidd, you the face. Yeah, come sit beside. And then, there you go. Look what the Mavericks did. Motherfuckin' Jason Kidd, you motherfuckin' co-rook of the year. You available, god damn it. Come back. Come on back, bruh. Come on back.
Starting point is 02:34:16 Know what you are. How many people on the staff are from Dallas, that played on the Dallas team? The staff? The staff, right? I don't know who. I can't see. Is there anymore? Too many behind the bench. I don't know who. I can't see too many behind the bench. It don't look like too many though. He built his staff. Jared Dilly just took the job in Denver so. Okay. Yeah he split that little group up. Don't get me started on this topic. We're here all day. But I just, We're here all day, my dude.
Starting point is 02:34:45 No, but it's just me. I just, like, you going back. But I tried. You put your feet out. That's, like, if you're pursuing something, if you're pursuing, like, it's like, if you're pursuing this after you play basketball, I, as an organization, I understand that,
Starting point is 02:34:59 okay, you watched for him, you came in early, you did this, all right, I know you're gonna take this serious. I'm gonna give you a shot. You gotta give. Put you in the G League. I'm gonna, you know what I mean? If I'm gonna do this take this series I'm gonna give you a shot. Yeah, put you in the g-league. I'm gonna you know what I mean? If I'm gonna do this for you, I'm gonna put you in the g-league y'all. Let me see how he's doing. Okay summer league coach Okay, let me see. You know what I mean? There's there's opportunities Yes to your point I went it ain't like I went so I tried to be in the front office, tried to scout, tried to coach.
Starting point is 02:35:27 All of it. I didn't go to teams that I never had any affiliations with to try to do these things with. I went to the team I was drafted number one by. I went to the team that I played for seven years for. I went to these teams to try to do these things for people who I had relationships with who know what I got, who know what I'm about. Clippers. Know the guy in the front off? Well, to the finals with him. He was on the staff when I was with the net. Know him well.
Starting point is 02:35:59 Would tell anybody the smartest basketball player he's never been around. tell anybody the smartest basketball player he's never been around. That's not supposed to be right. I'll pick some up. This is in Miami. I like Miami. I mean, that's the one thing I do like about how Miami treats because most of those players you see them on the bench. They played in Miami.
Starting point is 02:36:19 Yes. Mm hmm. Yeah, the one that was successful. It's not like there Anthony Carter was there for years on that bench and he played with them Cronbulla, the hihats, Chris Quinn, all them guys over there. Yeah, they do it right Hopefully Mark Jackson gets enough another opportunity to get out there We rock with you mark appreciate you for everything But before we go earlier in the show can you were talking about Chuck Hayes?
Starting point is 02:36:43 So we want to revisit the play that you were talking about. We got the video. Shout out to our producers. No, don't embarrass Chuck like this, man. He wants to actually opt out of the last year of his contract. The $20 million has signed a six-year extension. It's a double dribble, man. So we'll see what happens with that.
