Starting point is 00:02:42 The Aces dominated the second half en route to a game one win in the WNBA finals, but what do the Liberty need to do to steal game two? Starting point is 00:04:06 Keep the lights on. So let's get into it. Lexi, we got you here. You're our WNBA expert. Yep. So you know we got to show some love to the WNBA. Love that. WNBA finals are underway.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Game one was Sunday night. So the Liberty won the regular season series against the Aces. But game one, they got a Sin City-sized smacky. Sure did. Jackie Young, Kelsey Plum, Chelsea Gray, and the People's MVP, Asia Wilson, put on a clinic. The People's MVP? The People's MVP!
Starting point is 00:04:31 Wait, was that about Asia or about Chelsea? Asia Wilson, the People's MVP. About Asia, okay. Shout out to Chelsea too, no disrespect. Okay. All the black folks in Twitter. The Twitter black folks. Chelsea goes into a different mode during the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Yeah. It's insane. So the People's regular season MVP, we'll see who the People's The Twitter black folks? Chelsea goes into a different mode during the playoffs. It's insane. So the people's regular season MVP. We'll see who the people's final MVP is. Jimmy Butler of the postseason? Seriously. Pretty much. So Aces were down three at the half. Outscored the Liberty by a dub in the second half.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Complete embarrassment. Tom Brady was there. Cheryl Swoops. LeBron was there. They was getting it in. Yeah. But what are your takeaways from game one? I mean, like I said last week, when the Liberty are making threes,
Starting point is 00:05:09 like everything is coming together. Their defense is locked in. They're flowing offensively. And they really look like a really put-together, complete team. But, you know, their threes weren't really falling. You know, Johannes came in in that first half and, you know, had her little one-legged threes and stuff like that. But like for us, like as players, like that didn't like shock us. Like obviously a lot of people
Starting point is 00:05:29 were shocked by her making those shots, but like those are shots that she takes all the time. So, you know, that didn't rattle Vegas at all. Kelsey Plum, you know, she struggled a little bit in the regular season. I mean, she didn't play poorly, but she didn't play probably at her level. She's a handful, you know, so she finally, you know, turned it up against the Liberty. Finally, I think she was really happy about that. And the Liberty just got a lockdown on defense. You know, their guards, you know, they just didn't get it done. But I mean, Chelsea, Jackie and Plum are freaking handful. So, you know, it's not an easy job to do. You picked the Liberty, I believe, going into... I sure did. I'm still sticking with them. All right. So what do they job to do you pick the Liberty I believe going in sure dad you picked a little
Starting point is 00:06:06 So what do they need to do to steal game two in Vegas? Get their shooters going Sabrina is I think the key for them at least from the three-point line. I'm pretty sure Jackie was guarding her Oh, I think she was I can't remember but Jackie I mean when I play Vegas Jackie was guarding me She's a very good defender very underrated on the defensive end so you know Sabrina couldn't really get loose Sloot's gonna have to control the game get everybody involved and I think JJ and Stewie are just gonna have to step it up just a little bit more be a little bit more aggressive um but I think it's gonna come down to three-point shooting and their defense and that's it it's
Starting point is 00:06:42 simple do they have enough scoring to keep up with right? No, and that's the thing they need to get so they need to get stopped They have to get stops and that's I mean, that's what happened in the second half Like they kind of their three ball wasn't going you know, they started turning the ball over a little bit and then their defense just like Depleted it went like went nowhere and then that's when Vegas turned up on them. Chelsea, the point guard,
Starting point is 00:07:07 started doing her thing, got the gym going. The energy was crazy. So it's very hard to beat them. When I seen the higher, lower on them and on the dog gap, everybody's at 18, 19 for Vegas.
Starting point is 00:07:18 I'm like, Jesus Christ. And that's exactly what happened. It's like everybody's at 19. I'm like, who is this? 19, Jesus. It's like they got a... No, they can put the ball in the basket. That offense is very hard to guard.
Starting point is 00:07:31 They have so many weapons. I mean, and Asia, you know, did Asia things, but, you know, she didn't have, like, a monster game. Yeah. They're just so balanced. Yeah. Once you get that confidence this time of year, though, that's tough, though. Defensively and offensively, once you realize what teams A says, B says, you got them locked down.
Starting point is 00:07:56 In the championship, how many games is it? Best of five. Hey. Go on, put that to seven already. I think we should, for sure. To seven. Go on, get it to seven. Championship, at least the championship, get it to seven already. I think we should, for sure. The seven. Don't get it to seven. Championship, at least the championship, get it to seven.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Yeah, that would be fun. Because you go down 2-0. I know, I mean, that's, yeah. Yeah, and then you don't get the chance to play twice at home. Is it 2-1? 2-1-1-1? No, 2-2-1. So if they go down 2-0 and then they win 2 they win two in New York then they got to go play game five
Starting point is 00:08:26 in Vegas. Yeah, okay. That's that's old school. Yeah First round now that happens old school first round. Yeah, we used to be that shit I mean our first rounds best of three. Yeah Yeah, like we played the first two at the home team spot right then First two at the home team if you steal a, then you get game three of the visitors? It's, what is it? I haven't been to playoffs in a few minutes. Like 2-1, right?
Starting point is 00:08:50 I'm just saying. But my first, my... But you're a champion. I am a champion. Okay. But we were still in single elimination the year we won. So we were a six seed, and we had a single elimination game to go to the semifinals in Connecticut.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Stole one in Connecticut, finished it out, and then beat Phoenix in the finals. Yeah. Pressure. Glad that they took that single elimination out. That's pressure. Do y'all miss the best of five at the NBA? I do. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:20 That first round, bruh. Listen, man. There's nothing like it. With single eliminat— No, like that first round, bro. Listen, man. There's nothing like it. With single eliminators? No, like that first round, five games? Listen, man. You got to get to it. You got to get to it.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Seven games is a lot. That's a lot for the first round. That's a lot of games. For the first round, the rest of the round, I agree. But that first round, take it back to five. Yo, that's a good one. There's just some games, man. It might take some time. We played Indiana. It takes some time to really get in your mode, try to figure a good one. There's just some games, man. It might take some time.
Starting point is 00:09:46 It takes some time to really get in your mode, try to figure a team out. Shit, we played Indiana first round five games. Listen, Jack, it's double overtime. Wait, y'all wish y'all had the play-in tournament? No. Y'all don't like it? I hate it.
Starting point is 00:09:59 I hated it too, but now I love it. The only reason I agree, if eight and nine have the same record, or you're just. Like a game or two apart. What as the tenth seed have you done to deserve to have the opportunity to fucking play in the playoffs? Be a loser all your life. Have a losing record all your life.
Starting point is 00:10:20 Not even a good loser, just a mediocre. You ain't even good at losing. You just like. You like right in the middle. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just average. Yeah, just average just like... You're an average loser. You're an average loser. You're an expert at the shit. They give you an opportunity to get...
Starting point is 00:10:33 Come on with that bullshit, man. If you're an organization, this is what I... If I'm an organization and I'm a 10th seed, I'm a 10th seed and I go into the playoff and I'm a 10th seed, right? I'm a 10th seed and I go into the playoff and I win.
Starting point is 00:10:50 What's my, do I get to keep my lottery pick? Or whatever I was going to get. I got to come up off that. Why would I want to come up off that when I know my team all year sucked? Yeah. So why would I really want to get into the playoffs
Starting point is 00:11:06 to do that and then lose my potential top 10 pick? That is dumb. That's dumb as shit. That is dumb as I sucked all year. They sucked all year. This whole team. This whole group. I watched them play for 82 games. Yeah, they want to get it together the last five. No, we're not doing that. No, no, no, no, no. I don't want
Starting point is 00:11:21 no hope. Sit your ass over here. Now I got to get a 20 pick with this team. Shit. No, we're not doing that 10th. You're going to suck all year round. You're going to finish it off. If it's 8-9, I agree. You should have a fucking playing game,
Starting point is 00:11:37 and the winner of that, you fucking get in. Lead a 10th out. Yeah, and then if 9 win, then they get another game. But other than that They did try to make the bottom competitive and only way to buy competitive is a competitive I is it last play there's that last place if you're in last place You get you know, you can't get there. You're not allowed to get the first pick You're automatically in
Starting point is 00:12:02 Six or seven now don't now no one wants to be last. That's good. Who wants to be last place in life? Sports is the dumbest shit ever. No one in life, in regular world, wants to be last. You don't want to be picked last at the park. That hurts. You're sitting there like, I got you,
Starting point is 00:12:23 and you're sitting there like, I guess you're with us. Nobody? That hurts. You're sitting there like, I got you, and you're sitting there like, I guess you with us. Nobody wants that feeling. But in sports, everybody wants to be last because they can possibly get the first pick. That's not how it's supposed to be. Last is, you don't want to be last,
Starting point is 00:12:37 so there should be a penalty against last. So when those teams are playing at the end, they ain't resting now. Right now, take that ice off. Now we got to win this game. But very seldom does the worst team get the first pick and in the nba yeah i'm saying that's that's how it is they won't be taking it they won't be tanking yeah they should have the way off bottom four teams got to play for it whoever wins gets that number one number one gets the pick that would be amazing give me the way better than not playing not now
Starting point is 00:13:03 that's better that's better than the play-in. That's better than where we're suited. Yeah, absolutely. Right? Absolutely. That's way better than the play-in. The last four teams play for the first pick. Two in each conference.
Starting point is 00:13:12 Y'all got to win. Y'all got to do it. Two of them. Yeah, I want to see that happen. Bottom four. Because they got to tank all year, and then they got to convince the players to play hard for this weekend. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Play hard for your replacement. Right. Play hard for your replacement. Because you know everybody done checked out and done already. What? Yeah. And they ship their cars and shit home like, nope.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Vacations plan. Yeah, yeah, what? I'm a free agent so I don't care what y'all get anyway. I'm a free agent. You got some guys like that.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, you got, now that's chess. Figure that out. Yeah. Chess right there. Navigate them wars, goddammit.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Give those a ring. Tell them where to pay for it somebody who who been balling all year now he waiting for that payday me. I'm good. Yeah, this ain't gonna still hurt. Yeah That have been damn last year they set him out and I'm good I'm good y'all got it One last thing we go ahead to hit on this WNBA finals. We're going to talk about Johannes coming in. Played sparingly, postseason, did her thing in the first half. Four three-pointers, including the one-legged joint that had LeBron singing her praises. We got it. Oh, she got a cannon. The one leg going left got me out of my seat.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Nah, here's... And we've seen... LeBron was working on this earlier. We've seen Harden try this. A handful. So what are your thoughts on her Game 1 performance, and do you think we'll see anything like that the rest of this series? I mean, I think for the new viewers of WNBA, seeing this maybe as their first
Starting point is 00:14:38 experience with the W, we're probably like, that's how they hoop in? But she plays like that all the time. She's from France. I played against her team when I was in France. You know, her game is just very European. I think they need to utilize her more. She's only averaged 10 minutes a game throughout the entire playoffs, which I think is odd.
Starting point is 00:14:58 She averaged almost 20 in the regular season. Unfortunately, she's kind of a defensive liability. You know, if you play that short amount of minutes, But unfortunately, she's kind of a defensive liability. If you play that short amount of minutes, you cannot be a defensive liability. She doesn't... Unless they play her more, which is the thing. I think she's more valuable to them offensively. You're not putting her in there to get stops. But I think they're going to need her.
Starting point is 00:15:19 The best defense is a great offense. Man, that defensive liability, that's so... That makes no sense ever. If I'm averaging... What? How the fuck you don't? If I average 30... If I average 30 and I can't play defense...
Starting point is 00:15:31 But she's not averaging 30. What you going to do? What you going to do? She's not averaging 30. No, what I'm saying is, what you going to do? You going to break your whole offense to attack me with a guy who really ain't scoring like that? How's that going to work? No, we're going to make you guard somebody.
Starting point is 00:15:43 I mean... Cool, but that ain't your offense. We're going to make you guard somebody. Cool, but that ain't your offense. We're going to make you guard somebody. We're going to take the liability off offense and make you guard somebody. But I'm just saying, if I'm guarding, let's say... Let's say... We're going to go to state.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Just take us in Denver, right? So we're going big shot and J.R., Melo. So you got to go at one of them. I'm going to guard big shot. So we're going at you. Okay, cool. So that ain't going against our offense, though. Okay, so now offensively...
Starting point is 00:16:09 So Big Shot knows we're going to be more aggressive in that situation. So that means Big Shot going to take 30 shots now. No, probably not 30. No. So that's what I'm saying. He ain't going to never take 30. Exactly. Because that ain't his personality.
Starting point is 00:16:18 But early on, we're going to make you guard him. Cool. So when in the game, you got to guard him. Cool. And then potentially, you're going to get two early because you know how big, you're going to do something because he's aggressive.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Potentially you're getting two fouls in the first quarter, right? Because he's aggressive. Now we ain't got to worry about you for a little while. Now you come out and you might get,
Starting point is 00:16:37 so this is the mentality. No, I don't play defense so I ain't fouling. You're being way. I ain't going to get a foul, not in the playoffs. But you got to guard him though. Cool.
Starting point is 00:16:44 So therefore, there's a possibility it could happen. That only works if the opposite guard that the person's guarding is like that. Whenever I see, like, when you're going at Steph and he's switching on the people, now he's switching on someone who don't shoot the ball, but now you're ISOing Steph with someone who don't actually score. That's pointless. Yeah, that's pointless.
Starting point is 00:17:06 But I'm talking about when you... But in the series, like, you have Chelsea, Jackie, and Plum. Yeah. She... No one can guard them, so I'm gonna at least put some... I'm gonna at least let her come back and shoot them shits, at least make it even.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Sure, but I think in the second half, she went over three. Yeah, she got to go at one of them. Now she's making shots. She went over three once she stopped hitting shots. I think in the second half she went 0 for 3. Yeah, she got to go at one of them now. She went 0 for 3 once she stopped hitting shots. Oh, that's all she does? She went 4 for, yeah. I think she shoots six shots a game and four or five of them are threes.
Starting point is 00:17:35 She came in 4 for 4, got ice cold in the second half. You can't be ice cold and get good. And a liability. You can't. Yeah, I don't know. You said you played against her in France. Mm-hmm. Was she playing? I think she's playing she'd be chilling over there. I was about to say do they be But
Starting point is 00:17:54 That's just so easy over there Wow war. Yeah, the reverse Lucas is way easier to get buckets over there? Yeah, I mean, just from a... What? It is. Okay, that's pretty good. You got no athleticism over there. Right. From an athlete, I feel like... I feel like a super athlete over there. Get down! When I'm here, I'm, like, one of the... probably on the bottom tier of, like, athleticism, but when I was over there...
Starting point is 00:18:16 You Zion over there, Joyner. Yeah, like... As I said, they be thinking about overseas. They be thinking about overseas. Like, it's this new thing that's about to overtake. Yeah, they still with athleticism now. Like, Greek is from Greece, right? No, Adam, yeah. Greco-Nigerian. They be thinking about overseas. They still- It's this new thing that's about to overtake- Yeah, they still, but Atlantis is not. Like, Greek is from Greece, right? No, Adam, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Greco-Nigerian. He's the only one! But he's not- They don't have a whole country full of these guys! But he's not- Right. He just, that he not, his bloodline is something different. Yeah, but I'm just saying-
Starting point is 00:18:40 Right, there's not a bunch of goddesses running around Greece. There's just one, just like Jokic. He's just one! Shit, there's only one in the entire- And he's streets. It's just one. Just like Jokic. It's just one. It's only one. And he's over here now. No one. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Yeah, overseas, like a bunch of girls I know are over there right now, like, hooping. Like, averaging maybe seven, eight points in the W, go overseas, drop at 30. Yeah. I mean, I would probably just stay over there. I'm saying I do miss it sometimes because, I mean, I would be, I would probably just stay over there. I'm saying I do miss it sometimes because, I mean, I just love playing basketball. But, I mean, being over there,
Starting point is 00:19:11 it's hard. I mean, it's a hard lifestyle. But as far as basketball goes, it's fun. It's so fun. To who you got game two, I need your prediction right now. Game two Wednesday,
Starting point is 00:19:20 Liberty or the Aces? I'm going with Liberty. Ooh. She got to go. What do you expect her to say? I can't think in my mind. Did you expect her to say something different? She got going with Liberty. She got to go. What do you expect her to say? I can't think in my mind. Did you expect her to say something different? She got to have cancer.
Starting point is 00:19:28 She got to ride this motherfucker out. I think the key to game two is going to be Courtney VanderSloot on Liberty. She didn't have a great game. Benaja is going to have a great game. She got her handful defensively. Sabrina going to hit a great game. She got her handful defensively. Sabrina going to hit a couple threes. Yeah, I mean, I'm going to rock with the Liberty. I need them to win this game.
Starting point is 00:19:53 Teresa Witherspoon going to come. I need them to win this game. Vander Sloot has to go for 20. Is Bocalobo going to come out of retirement? Keep going. Keep going. Kim Hampton, they're going to bring Kim Hampton back. You think she's got to score 20? She has to. Keep going. Kim Hampton. They're going to bring Kim Hampton back.
Starting point is 00:20:06 You think she ought to score 20? She has to. You're guarding someone who's trying to score 20 and pass the ball. You have to at least match it. You have to win your... When I look at teams, you have to win your position. Right. So if your position, if Chelsea's putting up, at this point, combined 30 points, 20-something and nine assists, you have to match it. You having 10 and 10, that's great for you, but you still lost that matchup, which someone else has to make up for it.
Starting point is 00:20:37 And everybody else has a problem in their matchup also. So she's going to have to go out there and pull a Steve Nash. You're going to have to say, all right, this is the day when I have 20 or 30 in 10 assists. You just can't be a passer out there. Not in the playoffs. I mean, not in the championship. I've seen Courtney take, I mean, that's how we won. Courtney pretty much put the team on her back throughout the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:21:00 It was really fun to be a part of that. So she got it in her. I think she can do it. We're going to find out Wednesday. But let's keep this thing moving. We've got to shift gears a little bit. Talk about something that we've got to address. Hornets former first-round pick Kai Jones
Starting point is 00:21:16 has been on one lately. After a series of questionable videos and posts during the offseason, Shams announced on September 30th that the Hornets big man would be away from the team indefinitely. On Monday, Jones posted the following tweet demanding a trade. He said, I have officially requested to be traded from the Charlotte Hornets. Hashtag goat life.
Starting point is 00:21:39 See, that's the problem. I don't know if he's trolling. It's like he trolls all day. Something like that. He trolls all day, man. Goat life. This is so strange. But he also had an exchange with Terrence Ross
Starting point is 00:21:52 that left Ross questioning Kai Jones' mental state. After Ross commented on an IG post, is he all there mentally? Jones responded, I'm the greatest of all time. Check my highlights. To which Ross responded so no Now according to league rules Jones publicly requesting a trade comes with a maximum fine of 150,000 Harden got I think a hundred grand fine wasn't exactly that but
Starting point is 00:22:17 The league doesn't take kindly to players Harden got what I think 100k fine for the public the public comments. And then he's going to get what? He gets up to $150,000. From his salary, it should be like $10,000. Compared to Jake Harden. Does being tweeted have anything to do with that? I think if it comes from his, unless he says I was... Because he could be like, someone hacked me.
Starting point is 00:22:40 But I think he had a series of tweets after that and retweeted a bunch of people talking about it. So, you know, lead got Matt Locke The level of investigators on it. So what's your reaction to this Kyle Jones situation? Yeah, I don't know him personally I seen the video where where he was twerking nah where he was Everyone says he probably was on drugs and sweating and stuff.
Starting point is 00:23:07 He was dying his hair. You can see the blue on his hands and the blue running down his face. So you can see he was... So it wasn't sweat, it was just die. I don't want to put drugs on anyone, but I know he speaks great English. I can tell you that. Right before training camp, I don't, you know, right before training camp, I wouldn't,
Starting point is 00:23:34 I don't think nobody would do drugs right before training camp. You know, just like that. Or like act up online. But you don't know what he's, you know, you don't know what he's going through, man. Like, I mean, in the sense where, you know, you can see him and his teammates Got some type of Cuz they was around him last year
Starting point is 00:23:49 Yeah, they got something like, you know, he probably has one of those egos where he thinks he's really great Right and that probably rubs off on on the teammates because you can see some of them chiming in and he's responding Then it's a little back and forth. So if you saw one your teammates post a video hitting a split in front of a Lamborghini, what would your reaction be to that? Wrong me for you, buddy. Give me your phone. Give me your phone. Wrong me, huh?
Starting point is 00:24:16 We talked a little bit about this last week. It was a situation with him and Miles Bridges. He said something about going on missions together or whatever. Miles Bridges said, don't going on missions together or whatever. Miles Bridges said, don't involve me into those shenanigans. What are your thoughts on this whole situation? Yeah, like, you don't want to, might be going through something like Gale's point, man.
Starting point is 00:24:35 You don't know what he's going through in his personal life. But that's when these idiot boxes, unless it needs to be, you know what I'm saying? Like, yeah, everybody don't need a phone.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Everybody don't need a phone all the time. At all times, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, no, it's just unfortunate, man,
Starting point is 00:24:54 that he's young, going through this and now he's been isolated. Yeah. So, more idle time to come up with more bullshit.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Yeah. Like, and he's going, as he's proven, he's going to continue to do it. Well. Until somebody steps in. But... So, Sean... Yeah, no, yeah, but I'm saying... But I was making a joke about it, but ain't no telling what.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Yeah. Boy. No, but Sean said he's away from the team indefinitely September 30th. We don't know what the latest is, but isn't he one of those situations where he should be with the team? Like, we need you here.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Nah, nah, not necessarily. This is not a John Moran situation. Like, it's something with him and his teammates. You don't know what it is, but it's something. Yeah, but I don't need you
Starting point is 00:25:42 here around your teammates. Yeah, they don't want the team, the guys don't want them around. That's like, if they come in and he on this bullshit, we as a group going to come together. We might hold a meeting. We might go to whoever the captain is, whoever the so-called leaders are. Listen, man, the guys say, no, we don't need that distraction right now.
Starting point is 00:26:02 We'll echo whatever it may be. But no, I just think it's a distraction. So let it be handled. You'd still be able to come in and work out and do all of that shit, but not. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. There's a group right now. We need you here, Chief.
Starting point is 00:26:21 But you can't be around the guys. Yeah, like private workouts. We need to know what's going on. Still have your hands on him. But why not? No, isolated. This is training. But what I'm saying is when you think about competing
Starting point is 00:26:31 and you look at his original comments, right, his original comments when someone tweeted him, said, this person's going to take your job, right? That's where it started at. Someone wrote that another player's going to take his job his job and he's like you ever seen this man Do a pull-up left-handed. No, even in college. He's never done a left-hand pull-up, right? That's where it started from right so Just like anything in practice, right? You think you're better than someone else who's probably playing in front of you That's what training camps about let's see what you did in the offseason prove it
Starting point is 00:27:03 So to be isolated because your team don't want you around during this time, like, this is training camp. I want to see what you got. I want to see what he got. Yeah. But like I said, we don't know what daily, what went on prior to the tweets. Some bullshit.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Like, just the daily interaction with the guys, the coaching staff. Oh, they said he wasn't showing up to us What he wasn't showing up to uh Workouts. Yeah, so it's so that was Who should work out before training can't who? Hold up the word. Oh, how old is he? Howdy, you know somebody young in the team and a young kid. He don't have that luxury you
Starting point is 00:27:44 22 years old you don don't have that luxury, Gil. 22 years old. He don't fucking have that luxury. What has he done in his league to earn the right not to fucking show up when I tell you to show up? Because I'm fucking paying your check. But that's... What has he done? Nothing. So, therefore, you show up when the fuck I say show up.
Starting point is 00:27:55 That's his problem. Well, so, therefore, you don't show up. Now you start with these shenanigans. Now we don't want you to fuck around. You wasn't showing up as is. So, stay your ass where you at. So, all right. So, let's say he was doing his own thing, thing working out and then he ain't showing up to the shit
Starting point is 00:28:08 That's not okay. He's showing up to training camp. He's the best player But you start the shenanigans before training camp. I'm saying y'all shouldn't even contacted me before training camp. Why not? I just ain't football You don't need to see how I'll give it arenas before I'll fuck Kai Kai Joe what I'm saying is before I was me Like they're telling me to show up to Trent show up. We're gonna do workouts before I don't like to see how I'm. You're Gilbert Arenas. Before I was. You're fucking Kai Jones. You know what I'm saying? Before I was me, like, they're telling me to show up. We're going to do workouts before. I don't like y'all workouts. But you showed the fuck up. No, I didn't.
Starting point is 00:28:31 When? When you was in Golden State? Golden State, my second year. Your second year. My second year. After my first year. When you were trying to make the motherfucking team, did you show the fuck up? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Did you show up? We didn't have that before. They was making me work out. They was doing me work out. What's the key word in that phrase? Key word in that phrase is what? Before? No, no, no. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:28:51 What is the key word in that phrase? Making you. Yes. The making. It was making me. Absolutely. And then what happened was we was in Utah. I went to the gym early, did bleacher work, did line drills.
Starting point is 00:29:03 I'm tired. And then the trainer came in and said, all right, time to work. No, I already did my work. And I was like, you're going to ask the video people that's putting up the what's-the-names? It's like, no, that's not how this works. And I was like, no, man, we're not going to do that.
Starting point is 00:29:16 I just finished working out. I'm sorry you were late. I'm sorry y'all late, but I worked out. And you're trying to tell me I need to work out more than the players that's playing, and they sorry. They not working out whatsoever. So if that's how this is, I quit. And walked right back to the locker room.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Did you quit? Yeah. And then Larry got hurt, and then he played more. So how did you play more? So how did you play more than he did if you quit? Larry got hurt, and then he took me off of IR. Like, I'm on IR, man. I'm working the hardest out here.
Starting point is 00:29:44 I come here at 6 o'clock in the morning. So you put your hands on IR, right? No, I was already on IR. But they didn't take you off until Larry got hurt and then they took me off of IR. Like, I'm on IR, man. I'm working the hardest out here. I come here at 6 o'clock in the morning. So they put your hands on IR, right? No, I was already on IR. But they didn't take you off until Larry got hurt, right? That was the next game. But, so you know that's... So it all just worked out. It just worked out.
Starting point is 00:29:55 But what I'm saying is... So let me just tell you how this shit would have went. So you... That's what your mouth say because it was only one fucking game. And I guarantee... Two. Two games. Whatever the fuck it was only one fucking game and i guarantee two two games whatever the fuck it was your ass wouldn't have saw that floor as a rookie probably you you wouldn't have saw that floor and they showed told your ass to show up and work out when we tell you damn what you're doing on your own time you ain't earned the right you know how this shit was
Starting point is 00:30:24 gill i know this ain't this nba but that's why you know how this shit was gill i know this ain't this nba but that's why you know how this shit was that's why i said that's why i challenged it because you want me to show up and y'all don't have no y'all don't have nothing in place what are y'all doing you rebound what we've been doing nothing so exactly so therefore you're gonna do so i gotta come there so you're gonna do this nothing that we've been doing it ain't been working and you're gonna do your you know i'm saying you can go do what you come there do you gonna do this nothing that we're doing it ain't been working And you're gonna do your exam you can go do what you want to do you go do your own thing But you're gonna do what when I tell you to be here at 1030 You're gonna be taped and ready to go at fucking 1030 1030 doing nothing you you go to houses. Yeah, they didn't have nothing for
Starting point is 00:30:58 understand it Yes, but Rookies second you like no, no, I got yeah, you know how this shit was at all Now he didn't show up to none of this stuff this summer. So that's a problem You're 22 years old you ain't did shit to earn that right and just leave you ain't did shit. Yeah nothing But twerk, but they're not the training camp though
Starting point is 00:31:19 I mean just for training But just for training camp though like Y'all over here talking about indefinitely on before training camp because they ain't leaning on him for nothing they don't need him you don't know what you need but you don't need it they don't need him obviously if they need him they'll put up with a little more trust me if he was moving the needle they put up with a little more they saw your potential they put up with a little more they saw your potential they put up with a little more or they would have just been saw your opportunity, they put up with a little more. Or they would have just been like,
Starting point is 00:31:46 get off... I mean, I don't know what conversations they've had, like, just get off the internet. Probably did. It's hard. Probably did. It's not hard.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Social media is a bit... It's not that hard. They probably came with that approach. He's from... Delete the damn app. He's from Bahamas, so he probably only had no family here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:00 I mean, who knows? I mean... I mean, you just gotta delete that shit off your phone. What'd you just say? He probably ain't got no family here. Are you serious? I don't know, man. I mean, I mean you just gotta eat that shit off your phone. What'd you just say? You probably got no family here. Are you serious? I don't know man. I'm just trying to I don't know He's like I don't live a sick way. I don't know his living situation bombs. I don't know where you from what is What about here I've been
Starting point is 00:32:19 Day Charlotte Trust me Charlotte one roof I have many of me Dan Charlotte. Trust me. At the crib. Charlotte. One roof. I have many, many. I'm just saying. At the crib. All them black people in Charlotte, trust me, Dan Charlotte.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Can we be picked up? A question for you. You talked about telling the team you quit, then Larry got hurt. If Larry would not have gotten hurt, how do you think your career would have panned up? Who cares? I'm curious quick. We wouldn't be on it. We broke me. That's what your mouth say He broke we'd be all Larry's arena. You guys come on. Y'all gotta think about it though. Like we had a lazy team Yeah, I'm sitting there practicing Six o'clock in the morning working on my game. Then obviously I got to practice, right?
Starting point is 00:33:05 And then after practice, I got to practice. Then I got to come back at night and practice, right? And then I can't even do layup lines. You know how embarrassing that is? Like, at least let me get my energy off on the layup line, get a little dunk, let a little crowd. Ooh! You know, I can't. Suit.
Starting point is 00:33:22 I got to put the suit on and then sit there the whole time with the same suit because I ain't got no money like that. So I got the same suit every road trip. Did you change shirts at least? No. Did you dry clean the suit? No, because whatever they seen in Utah, obviously, they didn't see in Denver. That's a whole new crowd.
Starting point is 00:33:38 Were you dry cleaning? Huh? Same suit, same, I need everything. Same suit, drawers, and everything. No washers. I just put, the only thing I put on, I, I need everything. Same suit, drawers, and everything. No washer. I just put, the only thing I put on, I put my drawers inside the washer and then put the tights on. I got the tights.
Starting point is 00:33:53 One suit. That's all I could afford. That's a Hooper move. That's a Hooper move. When you run out of underwear, you put the tights on. The only time it hurt me was like at home. Listen, that shit don't apply to all hoopers, Lexi. Don't let that shit.
Starting point is 00:34:06 What? Which one? I ain't never ran out of drawers and wore tight fucking drawers. Who's the number one pick? Lexi, not as an adult, college, and as an adult, not fucking ever. You were doing your life here at college? Never. We don't run out of drawers.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I've never worn spandex as fucking underwear. That's why you're advanced. Never. Hey, never been. Underwear. Drawers. That's why you're advanced. Never. Hey, never been. Underwear. Draws. You was number one pick. I mean, you.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Before that. As underwear. I had that problem in high school and college. I just spent all my money before the draft. You see my escalation. You talking about hooping like no. There's a no. No.
Starting point is 00:34:43 No. No. Never had a rough week. You can't get to laundry because you're so focused on working out. Like no, there's a no, bro. No for you. Hey, them tights came in handy. No, no. Never had a rough week, you can't get to laundry because you were so focused on working out. Them tights came in handy, bro. No, they never worked. Those were extra pairs of drawers.
Starting point is 00:34:52 See, this is where the player kick in. So you got to have a chick doing your laundry in college, dog. I'm a player or something. Something like a player, I was. No, I respect that. Was. Was. You right.
Starting point is 00:35:03 That $1.50 for your watch, though, in college, you had to make some decisions. Had a chick come by do You right. That $1.50 for your wash though in college was you had to make some decisions. Had a chick come by do my laundry. That's real. You talking about? But you were- Had somebody doing- Number one pick trajectory. Not then.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Sophomore year, I was just starting. So you was getting it? Yeah. Okay. Sophomore year, then you get a girlfriend and then you got a girlfriend and you still got the chick that's doing your laundry. You still got the chick that's doing your laundry. You still got the chick that's doing your, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:35:27 Did you have somebody doing your laundry in college? No. I did my own laundry. Yeah, I'm just saying. I did my own work. I did my own laundry. You did your own, like, schoolwork? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Oh, yeah. No, they studious. Dee and Tammy Brown do not play about grades. Listen. Oh, no. Yo, they, they, they, listen. I had a chick on our girls basketball team shoes right my English papers in allegedly Kenya she was okay
Starting point is 00:35:52 I've been out of school would you were your 20 years about it statute Statue of limitation is past. Past. Yeah, I did all my work. I didn't say I wasn't paying or nothing. Grad school was probably our least of all. Technically. Technically. Yeah, because we had a lot of teams. You were project manager. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:15 That's respected. I'm still a freshman, first semester freshman. I had a 0.4 first semester, first year. 0.2. That's very hard to do. No, no, no. You just don't go to class. You try. Yeah, you have to try.
Starting point is 00:36:29 You try to do it. You got to try to do that. Yeah, that is effort. Go to class. How'd I get a 0.2? I don't know. Whatever class that they designed, give me that. Because I was not showing up.
Starting point is 00:36:39 I did not show up. So what were you doing? You was in the gym? Balling. Hooping. Hooping. Hooping. Working out. If you had to guess, Amanda, your two years at Arizona, how many times would you
Starting point is 00:36:51 say you actually went into a class? The first year, I went to three classes. Total? Three days, because you know, the chicks. It's like they have that rush thing that's going on, right? And you're trying to, oh, who's in my class? You see a girl, then the second year, one class. The first day.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Went to all my classes, see what was in there. How did you stay eligible to play? So you start school eligible. Right. Right? So you can play the first part, right? And then you're ineligible, but you can play the second part. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Right? And then summer school. Yeah, summer school was the move. See, with all the effort you're putting into how to stay eligible by doing the least, you could have just done your work. Got like the average amount. The bare minimum. Then I would have probably been redshirted.
Starting point is 00:37:35 I would have had the redshirt been there five years doing that. But because. If you went to class. Yeah, because I got the hoop. I got the hoop while they was practicing. When the season started, I'm the captain now. Give me the ball. Yeah, y'all been in school all that time.
Starting point is 00:37:51 Your jumper ain't right. Yeah, y'all going to have to lean on me the first half of the season. And that's what happened. This guy. Mm-hmm. You circumvented the Prop 48. I salute you for that. Yeah, I went to school.
Starting point is 00:38:02 So when you get to campus, see this is, see he just probably was fucked off when he got to campus. See when I got there it was learned behavior. So I had upperclassmen that I never saw on campus. Like Danny Forson was the number 10th pick, he was an all American. And I never saw him. But my freshman year I'm going to every class. I'm in that bitch. I'm notes, I'm, oh to every class. Like, I'm in that bitch.
Starting point is 00:38:25 I'm notes. I'm, oh, they say I got to study. I got to do this shit. Right. I'm, right? So every class my freshman, summer school, sophomore year, start going to Little Lad. Like, somebody said, I don't feel like going.
Starting point is 00:38:38 OK, we turn around, go to the Little Union. Junior year, went to Little Lad. Yo, yeah. And it's easy to do that at bigger schools. At Maryland, I was able to not go to class sometimes. When I got to Duke, no. My senior year came around. If you miss class, they will know about it before class.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Oh, yeah, we had a snitch. We had a guy going around taking classes. Oh, yeah, the class checkers. The class checkers. Slid tickets. I know, but what's the problem? Are you going to run to who? Huggins? Bob Huggins?
Starting point is 00:39:11 Let somebody go tell you. Okay. Somebody go tell Bob Huggins you're not in class. What are we going to do, run? Cool. Run what? Right, that's what I was going to say. So what do you make y'all run?
Starting point is 00:39:20 If that punishment don't bother you, then what's going to happen? So the first, like, three weeks of school, because people was missing, we had to run basically five miles every morning. Oh, hell no. So imagine running the football stadium steps. Around and back is one. That's just for missing class? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:37 The football stadium? That person. By himself? Football, not the basketball stadium. The football stadium. And they call it cigar runs. You're gonna be in shape though You're gonna be okay. It's the next season start you and him Thankfully UCLA played at the Rose Bowl, which is in Pasadena
Starting point is 00:39:52 So we didn't have a certain right outside the door you walk out the basketball off the football stadium right there But hell sleep rain snow because he gonna sit where it's covered see snow because he's going to sit where it's covered. See, that was the problem. Lewd Olsen realized early because if one person missed, then everyone had to run, right? So the first day, it was
Starting point is 00:40:17 Richard. So we ran. I don't believe in putting somebody for one person. I mean, the next day, me and Jason, like, if they're going to do that, we're going to do it. And then Lamont Frazier. Right. If we're going to run anyway, we all might as well not do it. So y'all didn't have anybody like me on the team?
Starting point is 00:40:37 No, we had, no, no, no, no. We had Gene Eggerson. No, yeah. So he wasn't putting, was he putting hands on people? He couldn't put hands on everybody. Huh? He couldn't put hands on everybody. I had a wrench. I had a wrench the whole time
Starting point is 00:40:49 Because he was gonna he was trying to with my ass. Yeah, you would have had to use it When I punch one my teammate went to the locker room I they say he gonna go get some I still right by them waited on him to come out whatever he was going to go Get be able to do it He went that muffin got his life together, thought about it, came out, that bitch had finished practice. At some point every year in Cincinnati, I put my hands on
Starting point is 00:41:12 somebody. Didn't Eugene Edison go and become a teacher? No, he's a cop now, New Orleans. That doesn't sound about right. He was a good dude. He was a good dude. He was a good dude. He really want to hurt the players, but I was not at some point
Starting point is 00:41:30 No, I was sitting the tone like just imagine you make and I listen dog. Let me talk to you He's got the beat on me in college. That's what was I wasn't doing none of that If it didn't ever got into a fist fight on the court. Good job. You said on the court. On the court. In practice. Off the court either. Oh, look at you.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Okay. I don't. I've been. I had one. We had one pick up session where I was close. But I was like, please don't swing. Please don't swing. I don't know what I was going to do if that happened.
Starting point is 00:42:00 You would have figured it out. Survival mode would have kicked in. Right. It was close. We was face to face. I was like, this is supposed to be my first fight, my senior year of college. That's terrifying. You ain't never been in a fight.
Starting point is 00:42:12 It didn't happen though. And everything was fine. Before we move on, I just want to take this time to thank Jason Capono. We used to call him Pookie for helping shake my academic career. He always knew what classes to take. Always steered us in the right direction. Take home midterm, take home final. Not showing up to any classes.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Still finished with like a 3.6. Can I ask y'all something? So y'all went to class? So it got to a point where we had class. So normally, we had class checkers. Some players on the team would do their due diligence, befriend the class checkers. Normally, if they were women, that
Starting point is 00:42:42 would include dating or whatever it may be. And they would be on our side. But then you'd get those outlier haters who would go report back. What was the penalty? Like 6 AM at the track stadium, running football, the length of football field. See, that was a problem. That didn't work with us.
Starting point is 00:42:57 Rolls across the whole thing. That didn't work with us. Like, you trying to penalize me? So they didn't run you? Oh, no, they ran us. But I was a track runner. That's not enough. It was a track runner. How long are you going to run me?
Starting point is 00:43:09 It don't matter. I'm going to miss tomorrow. I'm going to miss tomorrow. I'm going to miss tomorrow. Because at the end of the day, coach, you got to wake up at 6 a.m. too. You got to wake up at 6 a.m. too. See, this is the difference between Lou and Bob Huggins, right? See, what you love to do, what you love most.
Starting point is 00:43:28 Playing. And working out. So guess what he's going to do? Make you sit down. Oh, he'll lose a coach then. I ain't going to lie. I'm not jeopardizing no win. No, he don't need you.
Starting point is 00:43:37 You think it would have been different if he was like, you are not allowed in the facility. Yo, you think we needed you? Yo, do you see the way Bob Huggins was recruiting? Do you think we needed you? I'm just asking. I'm just asking. I'm just asking. I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:43:48 The way Bob Huggins was, I'm just saying the way it was, right? If you continue to do the behavior that he's telling you not to do. Then we'd have a conversation. Wait, what movie was it? It was like I have always conversations with the coach. And guess what he's going to tell you? I'm going to have a conversation. Like, what am I doing?
Starting point is 00:44:00 What's the problem? I'm working out. What's the problem? I'm working out. I'm doing my thing. Many people had that mentality. Go to class. Go ask Cory Blunt. Hey people had that mentality when they came to that ball. Go to class.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Go ask Corey Blount what he told her. I didn't pass in the ball either. Same mentality. Corey was a pro, right? Yeah. So the same mentality that you came in that bitch with. Going to take this. Hey, got a plane ticket for you home, young man
Starting point is 00:44:26 Let me do what I do best Okay Let me do what I do best, coach And he gonna tell you, let me do what I do best Coach, coach, coach me Coach some other guys Don't coach me in a No, he won't coach you
Starting point is 00:44:37 You ain't no teacher No, trust me, you won't touch that flow, nigga Damn, let's keep this thing moving At all I'm just letting you know The way the man was Arizona academic standards vary No, it's keep this big movie at all. I'm gonna let you know the way the man was Arizona academic standards very It's overall very basic though. He trying to teach our beads. Are you trying to teach a life lesson? So he ain't open. Yeah, I had a great life lessons do what you do
Starting point is 00:44:59 Do what you do laser focus on this? We gonna tell you all that extra shit get it out your way You can go do what you do elsewhere Let's go sit out this year cuz that's what you had to do then I'm over here getting grades to play basketball crazy Let's keep this thing moving We'll talk a little bit about Ben Simmons after a tough past few seasons dealing with injuries Gil You feel like those those are alleged either way to get bag, sometimes you got to do what you got to do. You got to back you out of me, you got to back you out of me. And some confidence
Starting point is 00:45:29 injuries issues and coming off the worst season of his career last year. Ben Simmons looked solid in his preseason debut against the Lakers in Vegas Monday night. We got some clips. LeBron's trying to guard him right here. Ben Simmons, boop! And one, boop!
Starting point is 00:45:44 With the Kareem hook and the stare down. Oh, that's beef. He came through again. Nice and one off the glass. See, I think that's his problem. He's right-handed, man. Yeah, we're going to talk about that in a second. But he finished with any kind of the bang out, too, right here.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Finished with 10 points. Went four for six from the field. So it's obvious that Ben Simmons can be a difference maker for this Nets squad. Not having them, I think, hurt that squad last year, even though they finished sixth in the East. But what are your expectations for Ben Simmons this season? It depends on what the expectation is for his coach. Because, I mean, we already know what he's going to do.
Starting point is 00:46:21 He's going to do about 10 to 15, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, right? That's him. Play defense, right? He's going to be first team, second team, third team, all defensive player, right? But as a coach, you know he has so much more to give. And the fact that he's too unselfish for this style of basketball, where if I'm the coach, I'm saying, hey, I need you to at least shoot the ball 15 times a game.
Starting point is 00:46:54 Like, give us a chance. Like, 15 to 20 times a game. Let me just see what you have. The fact that he's only shooting four. I don't know, preseason. Man, he should have went out there and had 40. Fuck thought he was gonna play a little bit more preseason game i mean considering how long it's been since he's played like just to be out there but i mean they have a few more few more games but i was just happy to see him out there um but yeah i agree with you
Starting point is 00:47:19 like what is the expectations for the team from the coach like is this Ben's season to like show everybody that he's back Like regardless of wins or losses or is this like where he needs to show that he's a leader Lead them to the playoffs and like a deep playoff run. So It's gonna be interesting to see how he plays deep playoff run No, I Never know I know Okay, I think Ben Simmons been through what do you what do you expect it from him this year? Let's go hoop man. Like whatever it is. I think he go score a little more than that gear I think gonna be around 17
Starting point is 00:47:59 You know, but yeah, yeah, that's I think hard to do man. Not for him. Not for him Not for he's at for him. Not for him He's at the rim the way he played like Listen He got of an example of who the fuck watch night in night out The nights they ain't playing or even they ain't playing. Hey man, send me the clips number 34 that play at Milwaukee man Show them send me them clips. I wanna watch they pull them up on the big screen
Starting point is 00:48:27 Nightly play like that. Mm-hmm simple play like that Two fucks if you make it you miss it from the perimeter Attack the next possession get to the line. You can airball that bitch who cares get to go aggressive. I Think you know, I think he motivated. I think he out of the situation. I hope he out of his head. I think he gonna hoop. That's my hope. I mean, yesterday it was like, I'm looking at passes.
Starting point is 00:48:51 I'm like, why? Who cares? Who's that? Who's that? Why are you making that pass? Just go. You sag off me. Man, I don't give a...
Starting point is 00:49:00 You sag off me. Shooting every time. I'm shooting every time. Oh, yeah. I trust. I'm with you. Right, I'm shooting every time. Oh, yeah. I'm trust. I'm witch. I'm shooting every time. And then with his ability, you're sagging off that much. You're sitting at the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:49:11 That's a drive-hard Euro. You're at the rim every time. There's really nothing they can do. That's a Russell Westbrook, Giannis Antetokounmpo special. Sag off me. I'm running at you. I'm giving you good luck. Good luck. I'm 6'10. I'm giving you good luck. Hey, good luck. Too much 6'10". I'm 6'10 athletic. Good luck stopping it.
Starting point is 00:49:31 So we look at this. Hope you're listening young man. Trust me, I'm trying to help you dog. 15 to 20 shots man. Shoot it. Make a miss dog. Trust me, it'll go a long way. Shoot that thing? Shoot it man, no matter what. Who cares, man? Then you can get the ball in the next possession and attack. Get the offensive rebound, get your ass on the block,
Starting point is 00:49:51 get a jump hook. Listen, man. He literally can do whatever he wants. I feel like you should do seminars for former number one overall picks just to really, because y'all should start a club or a collective or something, because you got a lot of game to give these guys. You know what's so funny? This is what Ben Simmons, how he plays,
Starting point is 00:50:15 is exactly what it looks like in super teams for AAU. You have all these guys teaming up, and they're all becoming like role-player type. They all buy in to being unselfish and making the right plays. like role player type they all buy in to be an unselfish and Making the right plays and the right so when they get to the NBA NBA and say be a star They've never actually had to adapt to do it because they've always been with other players to sit here and do this So when you look at all those super teams and those guys, you know, he had guys that passed the ball and he just you know Did this so when you need them say yo, no, now that I go out there and score 30 go go score 30 35 You can do it his mind was already warped and just making the right play
Starting point is 00:50:52 But there's nothing wrong with playing the right way No Super team you talk about a super team. You're talking about a super team That's super team. No the right wait listen when when a player when a coach Oh when old coach says play the right way, we don't know what the fuck they talking about Yeah, that's probably like on some Magic Johnson type shit. Yeah me saying play the right way is Whatever your ability is do it absolutely That's playing the right way. If you are a scorer
Starting point is 00:51:26 and that's what you do and you're sitting here trying to convince someone else or yourself that you're a playmaker and you're sitting here trying to get 10 assists, that's not playing the right way.
Starting point is 00:51:36 I'm with you. If you're a shooter and you can shoot that thing and you're sitting here trying to prove you can do something else, that is not playing the right way. I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:51:43 Let it fly. I want my shooters to, hey, if it look open, shoot it. look open shoot it oh i'm rich but i need to like that's what i said i i want like i'm trying to score 200 so i need everybody doing what they do yeah right that's how i play you know that's how i play if you shoot i know you shoot shoot the ball shoot the ball yep you if you hesitate like that's you messing up your own confidence. Yeah. Right? Shoot it. Whatever you do, just do it. That's your best ability.
Starting point is 00:52:09 That's playing the right way. Like, if you're scoring, even as a coach, if you're a coach and this guy's a scorer and you're trying to make him be a passer, Yeah. that's not the right way. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:20 No, you got to use the team. Yeah, no, you got to use the guy ability for this. Absolutely. So we got the season ahead of us. I need your guys' predictions. Can Simmons return to an all-NBA level? Not can. We'll say will.
Starting point is 00:52:34 Because anybody can do anything. I mean, yeah, I mean, you know, no one. What he was doing, what he was getting booed for, he was an all-NBA player. What he got booed for he was all NBA so I mean what we talk about I think yes okay yeah we hold no hope we know I think yes no just if he's available any place that's that's the best ability absolutely just being to being out there you have the ball in his hand a lot. They're not bad as a team.
Starting point is 00:53:09 You know what I'm saying? They're not bad as a team if you look at it overall. Yeah. Jock Vaughn got a full season to, you know what I'm saying? He ain't got to look over his shoulder wondering no more, of course. I think they're going to be all right. He got Jock Vaughn. He has a coach. Jock Vaughn said he wanted him to play to point. No more of course, but Jack Vonsay you want him to play the point you got him and dim witty
Starting point is 00:53:33 Jack Paul was a point that didn't shoot the ball No, yeah There's different pgs. I'm just saying that they want them. They want them to be the the primary ball hand Yeah, I don't know what that means coming from Jack Vaughn. I don't know that me want him to play LeBron James But LeBron are you looking at though? I'm with you Well, are you looking at the 31 6 & 5 LeBron cuz that's the one I need you to look at I don't need you to look at no, you know, like eight nine ten assists LeBron. I'm with you Like follow the book whatever he average your age. That's what you do. I'm with You 25 when he averages that 25. That's what you do. How about that you. You're 25, when he averages at 25,
Starting point is 00:54:05 that's what you do. How about that? Let's copy, let's go like that. I'm with you, bro. Simmons, 27 years old, he'll turn 28 in July. Damn, he that old? We're getting old, guys. We should miss fucking three years. He's been chilling.
Starting point is 00:54:20 LeBron at age 27, average 27, 8 and 6 with the Heat. You said last year? At 27. He averaged that at 38? At 38 he averaged 29, 8 and 7., Ben. All right, Ben, let's go. You got some work to do. So let's talk about another element of Ben Simmons' game, which I think I find fascinating. He's ambidextrous, shoots left-handed.
Starting point is 00:54:55 That left-handed Jimmy looks kind of janky, but finishes right-handed. And as the ringers Kevin O'Connor and J.J. Redick have pointed out, that he should probably just switch to that righty for everything. 27 years old. I know, it's a hard thing to say, but you look at the finishes in the video that, you know, he should probably just switch to that righty for everything. 27 years old. I know. It's a hard thing to say. But you look at the finishes in the video that we just showed, the right looks better. But you look at him shoot free throws.
Starting point is 00:55:14 What's the funny thing? It's weird like that. Like, he is like he's right-handed for everything he does. Yeah. And just shoots jumpers and jumps Yeah as a left and is that I think told him you do it do all the dribbling passing right-handed in the shooting left-handed when he was coming up, so KJ Shoot right-handed KJ jumps dunks everything with his left every going left hard left shoot jumpers right-handed
Starting point is 00:55:43 Is your left hand right-handed? He right right--handed but he's at the park one day he just shoot to him like we shoot shoot I just got him like maybe 10 allowed I know you gotta pick one mm-hmm but can't shoot to handle only one person that bread is the only person that up and she but you pick one. And he just started shooting the right hand, but he does everything else left-handed. He hard left, just the way they brain work, it's the craziest thing in the world. Like watch KJ shoot floaters off of a certain foot,
Starting point is 00:56:17 like tell him to shoot a floater with his right hand and look like. He don't know what he doing. Like boy, you okay? You left-handed, like natural form, you know what I'm saying? But you okay? You'd left hand is like natural for you know I'm saying but it's Just the way that brain work Talking about Ben Simmons lefty there's a video him knocking down corner three after corner three in the pregame Obviously that's pregame. We've seen the summer videos
Starting point is 00:56:36 You know, but is this the year he finally says fucking starts pulling from deep Still no, I think so just pulling I need him to do the lamello, point and a half court just- When he open. What I'm saying is, when you're talking about doing it in a game, there comes a point where you have to just do it. You ain't going, like pre-season, right? If he came out in pre-season and he was just taking shots and just, I don't care, because they don't count.
Starting point is 00:57:04 Yeah. When that shit start counting against you, your shooting shooting percentage and stuff that that that starts fucking with people like what I would if I was job I'm drawing certain sets up and I'm putting him in the corner and The players to get the ball him so he have to shoot I'm a force him to shoot it. I'm sorry like'm saying? Like, you gotta play the game within the game. I think everybody allows him to do what he does. Shoot two a game, bro. Shoot two threes a game. That ain't... Shoot two.
Starting point is 00:57:35 Make a miss, shoot. I need you to shoot two a game. That's not a lot. When y'all were coming up, did you care at all about preseason? Did you use that as a time to try stuff that you maybe wanted to use during the season? Or was it just like,
Starting point is 00:57:46 I'm just trying to get to the regular season? Both. Okay, so you actually, you were out there trying to... We're not playing, because we played fucking eight preseason games, bro. Yeah, back then, eight, yeah. Eight! We only have two.
Starting point is 00:57:57 You heard what I said? We played eight in a month, you know, used that. Played eight of them joints, man. So, no, we're going... We ain't definitely not playing all eight of them. Let's start there. Yeah, let's start there. All eight.
Starting point is 00:58:09 Not playing all eight. Who are you? You had to play all eight? My first year, which I didn't play, obviously. My second year. Because you weren't. Yeah, my second year, you know, we still trying to figure out who's going to be the starter. Yeah, so you was pretty much in go mode. Yeah
Starting point is 00:58:25 Yeah, so yeah, and I would probably play for day. Okay. Mm-hmm work on some stuff Yeah, like towards the like the fucking get hurt Yeah, like you're gonna get it get out there get a little game rhythm Because you play gonna play more and some games and less than others like but now you're gone And then if it was then the way you look at who you're playing in the preseason, too, the way I did it sometimes, well, most of the time, I look at who we're playing. If we was playing, say, when Sacramento was shit,
Starting point is 00:58:55 I'm not playing against Sacramento. That's right, it's Sacramento. No, I'm just saying there was shit when I was in there. Come on, let's not... Come on now. There was horse shit. Bad. There were a bad team.
Starting point is 00:59:09 Wouldn't you want to cook them? No, I don't want to play against them. Take pity on them. Just for like yourself? No, I don't want to play against them. He want competition. Yeah, we playing Minnesota. KG playing, I'm playing.
Starting point is 00:59:22 Gotcha. We playing Dallas. I'm playing. Like, we playing Gotcha. We playing Dallas, Dirk, I'm playing. Like, we playing the Lakers in the preseason, I'm playing. So, we asked the chat, can Ben Simmons return to an all-NBA level?
Starting point is 00:59:35 I want to say 61% said yes, 39% over 962-38, see? You only played two preseason games? Mm-hmm. Man, they just just look at you they just mess with y'all all the way around put the sound on y'all go my first year in LA we probably sold like three two or three roster spots that we that he was still trying to figure out after our
Starting point is 00:59:59 last preseason game yeah last preseason being the first one in the second one so like monday wednesday season like the first pre-season game i played a good amount the second one i didn't really play at all so for me being new i was like am i not gonna make am i not on this team like i didn't understand we didn't get our final roster my first season with the sparks until we were leaving for the airport to start our season so some people showed up and got directed downstairs so i was staying in a hotel all through training camp so i was like my mind was just all over the place because we had some players who ended up getting cut in apartments and then some players like me and one other player who got made the roster who were in the hotel. So we come downstairs in the lobby, the three of us, all packed up
Starting point is 01:00:51 ready for this long road trip, and our driver says, oh no, it's just two of you coming. Whoa. Damn. The driver? The driver. We were like, what? He was like, yeah. I read the names off. Oh, like, what? He was like, yeah. I read the names off. Oh, yeah, I knew that was coming. Come with us, and I don't have your name on here. And that's how we found out who made the call. Not even a courtesy text?
Starting point is 01:01:16 A DM? That shit brutal. So we got to the airport, and we all, I had no idea who was going to be at the airport. They had no idea who was going to pull up. So it was like a little bit of a disappointment from some of my teammates when certain players didn't walk in LAX. This all, my God.
Starting point is 01:01:32 They were like, where's so-and-so? And we were like, I'm so sorry. Was that ever addressed? I'm just saying, like, was that ever addressed by the coaching staff or anything? I mean, we had like side conversations about it. Like that was, that was not cool. And she was a,
Starting point is 01:01:48 she was like one of the, she was one of the rookies. She was like one of the babies. Like what I'm saying is I don't even, wheels up. But I had never been in a situation,
Starting point is 01:01:55 like that was the first time. Did y'all do two a days in training camp? No. I had never experienced anything like that as far as cutting players. Like when I got cut
Starting point is 01:02:03 from Chicago, we finished up practice. I went upstairs with James. We had a little talk. He was like, we're not going to keep you, blah, blah, blah, whatever. But he was like, we might bring you back later. Like, that was a conversation him and I had. But that shit happened my first year in L.A.
Starting point is 01:02:17 I was like, oh, nah. Like, I felt so bad for her. Like, it was just not cool. And then we ended up bringing her back later in the season because we needed her on Hardship. So it was like a very, it was odd. But yeah. They like the 60s.
Starting point is 01:02:34 On the way to the airport. Did y'all have tickets already? Because if I was her, I would just cash that ticket and try to get some bread back. Like two lines. Yeah, yeah. I don't even know. We were in the airport.
Starting point is 01:02:44 We were in the airport. We were lines. Yeah, y'all. I don't even know. Get to the airport. I'm eating that bread. Get to the airport, y'all. We were at the airport. We were like. Get that change fee, Wade. It's so awkward for all of us. Wheels up. That's wild. Yeah, it was bad.
Starting point is 01:02:52 Get to the ticket counter. It would have been bad for you to get to the fucking ticket counter. I mean, but think about it. They had to make cuts on two games. That's crazy. In preseason. You don't even know, like, two games.
Starting point is 01:03:02 Everybody get cut. Coming from training camp, too. Like, unless you're not playing the starters and just saying, we want to evaluate everybody else. That makes sense. That's the thing about our training camps is I just wish that coaches and stuff were more transparent about who
Starting point is 01:03:18 is being evaluated the most because you might have a player that you think is being evaluated that's on the team and Then you have someone that you're like, oh she has no chance to make the team you going hard at someone like me You should be going Hard at this player because this is this is this is the this is a group that's being evaluated for the spots not this I mean you should play hard against everybody, but there's like no real transparency, but you should play hard no matter what but yeah
Starting point is 01:03:43 We knew the guys that was guys that were in training camp. My first four years, even though it's a top ten pick, every year I came in like, I don't know if I'm going to be on the team this year. So I had to come in. That's rough. Yeah. Yep.
Starting point is 01:04:00 It is. Survival. That's why I'm glad we get two more teams. It'll be great. Let's go. Yeah, that's... Yeah, y'all need that because that's... It's survival. That's why I'm glad we get two more teams. It'll be great. Let's go. Yeah, that's, yeah, y'all need that, because that's, man. It's brutal. That's just mean spirited.
Starting point is 01:04:11 Let me know for our pack. Organize everything, road up, trying to fit it in the luggage, make sure. Excited for the road trip. No, only two of y'all. No, not you. We were like, yeah. We'll get his list.
Starting point is 01:04:20 I knew the list was coming. That's not you. That's the damn. I knew the list was coming. The driver, the poor driver, like, had no idea what he had to knew No idea. Yeah, we only got yes, sir. Yeah brown Elevator just you want that? Oh Yeah, yeah the poor driver had no idea what he had done. I don't made the driver give me a ride somewhere Yeah, but there's been guys in training camp, you know, well, we have to add this comes in saying just guys who you think?
Starting point is 01:04:44 He got a chance. Come in the motherfucker. Damn, get this fucking locker out. But what the hell is up? No, they let him go, bro. Like, this morning already? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or last night?
Starting point is 01:04:56 Like, what? No, they brought him in early and told him, like, damn, y'all work fast. You called me last night. Shit. So we're talking about rookies. We got to talk about two of the most interesting rookies heading into this season. Monday night, we got our first look at Wimby and Chet Holmgren as this year's number one pick and last year's number two pick. Both made their NBA preseason debut.
Starting point is 01:05:17 Yeah, let's fucking thank you. One's a senior player. Let's say it. Red shirt, Gil. He's a red shirt. A red shirt. But he's still a rookie. A red shirt professional. Yeah. Red shirt, Gil. He's a red shirt. A red shirt. But he's still a red shirt. A red shirt professional.
Starting point is 01:05:27 Yeah. Red shirt rookie. I mean, I agree with you. He had a whole year with an NBA team. Red shirt rookie. It makes no difference. No. Can't red shirt as a rookie?
Starting point is 01:05:34 No. Like, come on. True refreshment versus red shirt. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here's my thing. If you took the check, you can't be a rookie. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You already got your rookie friend.
Starting point is 01:05:46 You cashed NBA checks for a year. You are not a rookie anymore. You just ain't played 82 games yet. So should he be allowed to win? Should he be allowed to go for rookie of the year? Blake won it. I know, but... But is that legal?
Starting point is 01:06:00 No, it shouldn't be. It shouldn't be allowed. It shouldn't be fucking eligible to win that award. Yeah. Did he play any... No, but it shouldn't be. It shouldn't be allowed. It shouldn't be fucking eligible to win that award. Yeah. Did he play any question? No, but it doesn't matter. He's been working out on the NBA training, getting your body together.
Starting point is 01:06:11 Now you got these rookies that come in. Yeah, no. Yeah, you shouldn't be able to... Like if you cash an NBA check, you... So you got to play in the sophomore game if he makes it. Yeah. Can you play in the redshirt rookie game? No. I mean, guess you do have an advantage you do have an advantage over the rookies because you've been in you've been in the system
Starting point is 01:06:32 For a year come on, so you got stronger got wiser right you already did you see that Blake Griffin? Huh that second year Blake Griffin come on man. Yeah, I'm fair Just imagine I could have said I might look at you. We made the finals in my second year, Blake Griffin? Come on, man. Yeah. I'm fair. Just imagine I could have said that my rookie year. We made the finals in my second year. Yeah. Come on. If I would have came in strong as I was coming in, already fucking neck out here, eating weights,
Starting point is 01:06:57 and I get to sit out and be in that weight program that they was with the Nets, and I come up year two. Come on, man. Shit ain't right The boy no damn rookie They both slender still I'm just saying Got anyone yesterday
Starting point is 01:07:17 You don't put your fucking arms down boy you gotta have you gotta have muscles to flex I think that and let's start they gotta make a tech for that I'm finna be a hater for a second Excuse me. We ain't gonna say shit self-awareness. We haters to now Let's not start everybody want to do this your door Sanders highlight shit now you get an N1 now you throwing your hand Stop it. You better have really on stop you doing a basketball game. That's what you do So now everybody now you every Miss let's leave it to the football guys. Let's does it tick or sweep is what I'm looking at. You know I'm saying
Starting point is 01:07:53 I'm doing all not gonna know. Yeah, they he been illegal. He got he got it. Whatever the real one is he got that The boy no rookie no rookie, man. It's not a rookie debate. You got a first-year guy versus a second-year guy. Okay. That has great potential. Let's call it what the fuck it is. But wouldn't we also come in off of a pro season in France?
Starting point is 01:08:16 Stop. Don't even do that. I'm just asking, Gil. Just asking. He's played. It don't count. That don't do that. You can't. Nah. In late NBA, It don't count? That don't do that. You can't... nah. In late NBA, it don't count? Who?
Starting point is 01:08:30 The French NBA. Late NBA. The French NBA. Sacre bleu. Alright, but... so Chess second year, Wimby's first year, neither disappointed. Yeah. Wimby in his rookie preseason debut of his rookie season finished with 20 20 points, five boards, two steals, and a block. Went 8 for 13 from the field, 2 for 5 from 3 in 19 minutes. And Chet
Starting point is 01:08:50 in his redshirt rookie debut dropped 21 to 9 with one block, 7-10 from the field, 2 for 2 from 3, 16 minutes. But one play stood out in particular. Gil, I know you were doing this on Playback TV on your No Chill Gil page. But ooh! So watching this in. Gil, I know you were doing this on playback TV on your No Chill Gil page.
Starting point is 01:09:09 But, ooh, so watching this in real time, you know, I was like, damn, Wimby, big body Chet. No. There was a lot of bones scraping against each other. A lot of, I mean, damn. We watched the play. Wimby took Chet to the cup, got the M1, proceeded to flex on him. But upon further review, he lowered that head, gave him a little headbutt. That was a little bit of embellishment
Starting point is 01:09:27 on Chet's part, I think. Chet's lip was bleeding after that, though. And so, after the game, Chet was bleeding from the mouth, but he addressed it with a tweet that he had to edit. We see you, Chet. We see you, Chet. He said, the headbutt is an unstoppable move, for sure. Who is that in his picture?
Starting point is 01:09:47 Black man. Who knows? But he didn't have the laughing emojis in the handshaker first, so he edited and added those. How do you feel about Chet using the for sure? We know he's from Minnesota, but he loves Jamaican food. He does. For sure. So does he get to use the for sure? I mean, he did. For sure. For sure. So does he get to use the for sure?
Starting point is 01:10:06 I mean, he did. For sure. So look, this is just the preseason. We're not going to overreact, but this is Gil's arena, so we might. Gil, you watched the game. You commentated on it on your playback. Mm-hmm. What's your thoughts on Wimby's preseason debut?
Starting point is 01:10:22 Both. I mean... Yeah, we'll get to check. Wish your thoughts on win B's preseason debut both. I mean Like when B I mean his skillset, I mean his skill set Is nice I mean there's Like his you know, like usually you have potential and then you have people that just are skilled He's skilled like, you know from here is just in DC. He just needs right? Playing in the NBA system, going, you know, night in and night out to see what he can do versus what type of players. But the skill set is already there.
Starting point is 01:10:51 He has the skill. It's like a 7'6 Kevin Durant type. Yeah. He just, I mean, you know, he just needs to polish it up, but that takes years, you know? Yeah, I didn't get a chance to watch the game. I was traveling. But, no, just seeing what the highlights and different things this
Starting point is 01:11:08 He's just movement and that's that height Can't can't teach it Obviously, he's worked on his skill set over time. He didn't of course. Well, he didn't come out the womb 75 Over time over time he's worked on the skill set of ball handling and shooting, and now he's abnormally tall and skilled for his size. You know what I'm saying? Somebody in the chat said, waiting for Ja to posterize both Chet and Wimby.
Starting point is 01:11:39 I think we all are. They're welcome to the league moment. Lex, did you get a chance to watch that game at all? What did you think about Wimby? I watched Wimby a lot when he was in France last year, so I watched him a lot. I've been really excited for him to get over here. I think the physicality is going to give him some issues, as expected.
Starting point is 01:11:55 Where? The physicality of the game. In who? Wimby. Y'all more physical than the NBA? What'd you say? W-N-B-A plays more physical than the NBA. I mean,
Starting point is 01:12:05 he's just, he's a little bad. So there's no physicality. But here in... I didn't mean to cut y'all, but he'll be okay. Finish your point. No, no, no, you're good.
Starting point is 01:12:12 I mean, I feel like he's gonna get against somebody who's gonna be like, he's the rookie, I'm gonna put him on his ass. Like, it's gonna be one of those types of moments. Yeah, that's called
Starting point is 01:12:19 a foul here. Yeah. I mean, yeah, we definitely play more physical in the W than the NBA. Yeah. I mean, I think that's like more physical in the W than the NBA. Yeah. I mean, I think that's like a reffing thing.
Starting point is 01:12:27 That's like a whole other conversation. But Chet, like we said, has a whole year of NBA experience under his belt, and I'm excited to watch OKC play. I love watching that team play. Well, Wimby, do you think the Spurs are going to try and keep him out of those type of situations? Like it seems like they're going to keep him on the perimeter a lot. They're going to keep him on it. It's situations like it seems like they're gonna keep him on a perimeter a lot And then keep him on us where is where he's gonna be right?
Starting point is 01:12:48 I mean if if he's if Yoko just guarding him I'm gonna give him the ball right where at the three-point line do what you do then right, you know dance on him You know me And I think that's where he's gonna is gonna just take a year or two years to realize What he can do versus what players that's that's all it is at this point when you come when you're talking about just natural talent he has that like you can see even even when he's dribbled between the legs he's low like he's a guard right he's not like he's dribbling high he's sitting there getting in motion you know going low with it. So just let him do what he do. And it's like, I think for Coach Pop, this would be his
Starting point is 01:13:30 biggest challenge because this is one of the rare times where he say, I'm just going to sit back and see everything you have in you. It's not like when Tim Duncan come in, he's trying to coach them because they're winning. Here, there's no expectations of winning anything. So it's like let me just go out there and do what you do Let me see all of you and then I know how to I know how to train your version Just trying to make him do something that pop thinks, you know, I want to make him like Tim Duncan little Make you run wedge roll. Yeah Come run this wedge, roll. At some point, he's going to start coming downhill.
Starting point is 01:14:10 Getting a rebound. He's pushing. What do I need to give it to the point guard for? Just come downhill. Let's see what you got. So what are your thoughts on Chet's debut? There's two of them. Huh? What do you think?
Starting point is 01:14:22 Chet's redshirt rookie. No. No. No. He look nice, too. That's what I'm saying. Like, yesterday was a great game. Like, both teams. I mean, there was people on the Spurs I didn't even know was in the NBA.
Starting point is 01:14:35 And they averaged. You know, you don't watch the Spurs. And, like, you know, they averaged 18 and 20 that year. So, as great as everybody was talking about OKC because of you know Shay and Giddy you know Spurs got some some nice pieces to that can put the ball in the hoop so I was more of yo when Chet and when we touched the ball you'll shoot that like who who are these people do you do you think Right? So the problem Chet's going to have is, you know, he has stars on his team that, you know, that demand the ball.
Starting point is 01:15:13 So, you know, he might not get the opportunity. So I see him averaging about 12 to 16 with 10 rebounds, right? Is he like third, fourth? Option. Option. Yeah. Got Dort, because he's shooting every time. He touches.
Starting point is 01:15:32 Man, I'm sorry, but if I'm Chet and y'all got Dort in front of me, we're going to have a problem. Yeah. I don't care how many years he's been this motherfucker. Well, he's in front of him right now. I know, but I'm saying I don't care how many years he got. I should overexceed that. I'm with you.
Starting point is 01:15:43 You know what I mean? I'm with you. Like if he I mean? I'm with you. Like if he had the three and I'm going to, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo, big fella. Vet, vet, pass that down here. Come on, vet. Pass that down here. Right? You know, so it's one of those things where Wimby, it's more of, you know, he going to
Starting point is 01:16:00 have more opportunity to do what he do versus Chet. You know, Chet is going to have to just personally, when he gets the ball, just be aggressive. Like both of them. Y'all in situations where y'all's skill set is really high, where y'all can just say, ah, I'm going to wave you off and do what I'm going to do. And I think they're going to have to be a little selfish, both of them, this year,
Starting point is 01:16:19 to really put a stamp on it. So we asked the chat, should Chet be eligible for Rookie of the Year? 53% said yes. 46% said no. It's the chat, though, can't you don't, you know.
Starting point is 01:16:32 Come on, Chet. A lot of, you know. Come on. So find people in the chat but some questionable human. So very good people in the chat that are very dedicated
Starting point is 01:16:40 to support the show. They appreciate your opinion. Keep watching. So, Chet is eligible for the rookie this year. I know he is. I'm stepping up to the next question.
Starting point is 01:16:51 Technically, he's... Here's the next question. This is also an extension of the MVP chat we had yesterday. Who will have the better season? Wimby in his rookie year
Starting point is 01:17:00 or Chet in his redshirt rookie year? And do you factor in team success? I don't factor in team success. So don't find it that way It's okay. So so when be yeah, so we'll be pretty pretty easy. Yeah, I'll the opportunity He not gonna every opportunity is gonna be he doesn't there's no
Starting point is 01:17:17 pressures expectations, but to go hoop So the numbers gonna be there when you watch Chet yesterday, though, because he got a flame on him, and when you got Shea and Giddy driving in, he's going to have a lot of open shots. But he had 21 in 16 minutes. I'm with you. No, I'm just... I mean, I know we say we don't factor in...
Starting point is 01:17:40 It's the duration of... The voters factor in. Because that's just one single game. It's the duration of the voters factor And that is one single game. I'm thinking out to do the duration of the season just the freedom to go play I think I think What are they like very I think shit. I think cheddar win it only because He's not when he's on a better team and he knows how to do everything. Winby was like, Chet is going to have numbers that Winby's just not thinking of right now.
Starting point is 01:18:11 Rebounding. Chet is literally trying to rebound. Winby is the ball go up, he's out. He think he 5'10". He cherry picking. He's literally cherry picking. He going to challenge shot, keep going. So they're throwing a fast break to him half
Starting point is 01:18:28 the time. So there's going to be like Chet is going to damn near average a double-double. You also got Scoot in the equation, but I'm just looking at those two guys. Chet is going to average a double-double. Where does he come into the relationship? He got a team. He got a good team in a sense where those
Starting point is 01:18:43 players shooting the ball. They like Dame not here? Yes. Jeremy Grant. Are we going to see LeBron Mello's situation where if these two dudes are close, they're going to give it to Wimby because that's who they want to be the face of? It might be a LeBron Mello's situation where Chetna make the playoffs
Starting point is 01:19:02 and he won't get the award. Yeah. It feels like that. I mean, you know, Wimby's with their pushing, obviously checking hoop. That's because they both, like when you see them both, you can see, all right, they both got it. In this NBA, Wimby come out and averaged 22 and 10. He's winning the award.
Starting point is 01:19:22 Yeah, he is. But if they both have one average, I mean. If they both average the same numbers, they're going to give it to W he is. But if they both have one average, I mean... He's average. They're going to give it to him. If they both average the same numbers... They're going to give it to him. They're going to give it to Wimby. They're going to give it to Wimby. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:19:30 No matter what... We don't know. You don't know what... We know. You don't know which analyst is going to be up there and say some bullshit and make everybody precise. You don't know which... One of them is going to say some dumb shit.
Starting point is 01:19:41 One of them is going to say some dumb shit. Yeah, we have that power. It depends on what it... We should just put a hat here with an agenda in it. We just got to pick an agenda, and that's what we roll it with. Pick an agenda. Yeah, that's what they do. That's all they do.
Starting point is 01:19:51 Hype it. Hype it or dog it. One of the two. It's going to be one of them. They're going to ride it until the wheels fall off. Either way. So we don't want to look, obviously, too much into the future, but when you look at these guys with their initial offering, they can both play positionless,
Starting point is 01:20:06 both can bring the ball. I mean, it was amazing to me to see them both bringing the ball up the court initially in the offense, but comfortably shooting threes, going at each other. The flexes, yeah, get on that weight program to get the flex going, but what's Wimby's ceiling and what's Chet's ceiling? Whatever they want it to be.
Starting point is 01:20:23 It's whatever they want it to be. I mean, there's no... I mean... You... In theory, you have... Kevin Durant's. Not the natural scoring ability that Kevin possesses, just the natural ability that how his mind works,
Starting point is 01:20:43 but that type of style. You have someone who's 7 three one seven six I think we wouldn't be seven three allegedly in chess seven one. I thought he was seven six Whatever. Yeah, whatever. He is he's over seven. I'm just what I'm saying I think you're a skill set where they can seven four he's listed at yeah with his shoes off Do you have the I'm that's what his shoes off. Do you have the- That's with his shoes off. And the new NBA, the last couple of MVPs are five, you know what I'm saying? And they skill set is that and shoot the ball better than both of them. Right?
Starting point is 01:21:18 And I think they- I don't know. You know what I'm saying? Both these boys shoot that ball. That's what I mean. That's what I mean. They both- Shoot the best, yeah. Shoot it better than, shoot it better than I'm saying Nikola and Joel Embiid And I'm not gonna say when we'll say put a joker level faster But when yeah, but I'm putting on the floor they bought they better ball handlers. They better so just the skill set is there
Starting point is 01:21:37 Yeah, too But yeah, no, they said this We all know health plays a factor. All of it plays a factor, but the skill set is there for them to read whatever. Yeah, they can be whatever in this league. Anything they want. It's amazing seeing two guys at that size doing what they're doing. Like, I just, first of all, I would love to just be, like, seven feet tall just for a day, just day, just to see what it's like, and then go out and play basketball.
Starting point is 01:22:07 They can see everything. They can shoot the ball. I think if one of them, I guess both of them, can improve their passing ability a little bit, but they don't really have to. They're out there to score the ball. I'm excited for both of them. Super young.
Starting point is 01:22:19 They're both on motivated teams. Oklahoma City, I think, is going to be a great situation for Chet for a minute. But yeah, I'm excited. It feels like five, you mentioned the last two players who went MVP, both five, but the five has kind of been
Starting point is 01:22:33 devalued a little bit in this modern NBA. But are these two dudes going to help really bring... It's a different five. It's a different five, but just from that position, the value.
Starting point is 01:22:44 I think, you know, I think Nikola and Joel and be took care that Like they the five been in good hands for a few years now. I'm saying in the NBA. I just What I was saying, I think there's a Shaquille O'Neal out there that's getting overlooked Because of when we see him he gonna come because of the skill set that they forced to possess now. You know what I'm saying? He might get overlooked because he's just big now. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:23:10 He don't shoot it well. Do you think there will ever be a Shaquille O'Neal type back in the league? Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah, he's going to have to have the right training when he so when he get there You know you can lock it as him
Starting point is 01:23:30 There's always someone who changes the game yeah it verts it back to what it was I'm the one thing they can't change is they can't they can't change the guards back to no no listen listen listen if I was if I was disrespectful to the 80s and the 90s before cuz now okay so I became a fan of the NBA when penny like I watched it but I wasn't into it the NBA when penny like I watched it But I wasn't into it like that until penny Hardaway came into the league, right? So now I watched the 55 game and I'm watching some other ones Let it be no girl. I'm just saying, don't ever tell me the defense that they were playing and all this and we can stop y'all. Your defense is good because they couldn't shoot the ball at all.
Starting point is 01:24:38 Period. I'm certain that's good. Patrick Beverly would be a scorer back in that era They have four defensive players and one offensive player on every like that That's what the lineup was for defensive players one offensive players, but the problem with the defense is It's not like they were stopping someone like whoever drove drove They wasn't moving if they didn't move left or right, right? They didn't know. Anybody who did, like, a simple crossover, he left them, right?
Starting point is 01:25:10 So it's not like these guys were like, I'm stopping you. Like, get over here, get over here. We're like, good defense. No, there was none of that. Like, you're going to get to wherever you're going to get to. Pull up. Just when they pull up, what's going to go in? That's all. It wasn't going to go in? That's all.
Starting point is 01:25:27 It wasn't going to go in. That was the issue. So when you're talking about, like, these guys played this type of defense and held guys under 60, yeah. If my lineup is, you know, Oakley, you know, dude named Bonner, right, and what was the point guard Harper yeah yeah with the three three of those guys on the team yeah I'm pretty sure you're not gonna score 60 all we do is have double Patrick what we're gonna do and then you're subbing in Anthony Mason and then who else is gonna shoot my guy
Starting point is 01:26:00 got John starts and just starts like it's not like he was creating his own shot so he has to wait until a double comes, swing around, then he shoots. You didn't have offense. You didn't. And that's why this is 94-95. They had to shorten the three-point line. They were so horrible. They had to
Starting point is 01:26:17 shorten the three-point line. Yeah. Y'all shooting so bad. We're going to make it easy to look for you. So you can see so bad, we're going to make an easier look for you. So you can see when 96, just a year later, when 96 draft comes, they didn't know what to do with Allen Iverson and Steve Nash. It was such a... Went from that to someone trying to score 30. You didn't know how to guard that.
Starting point is 01:26:47 That was just such a big difference. Like 96, 99, those type of guards, they didn't know what to do. It was like BJ Armstrong and Kerr, right? You telling me that's who I have to guard players? I got to guard BJ Armstrong, then Ker guard. B.J. Armstrong, then Kirk come off the bench. Harper and... Not Starks. Greg Anthony. Right?
Starting point is 01:27:14 Y'all ain't scoring 10 points. I'm a great defensive player. I'm all defense. I can see why Gary Payne was sitting there like... Shoot it. Y'all ain't going to do nothing. Like, what are we talking about? Where y'all going?
Starting point is 01:27:31 That's a point guard. Like, come on, man. I'm sitting here like, yo, what? Seth Curry would eat through this right here. Oh, yeah. Y'all talking about, yeah, we would put him on his ass. Not one. The only one person found somebody hard,
Starting point is 01:27:49 it was Charles Oakley against Kukoc. One, Kukoc burned him. Post up. He just found him real hard. That's it. Other than that, they didn't do none of that. They couldn't stop fly shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:05 How do you stop fly shit? I don't know, but they couldn't. I'm just kidding. They couldn't stop fly shit. Yeah. How do you stop fly shit? I don't know, but they couldn't. They couldn't. What I'm saying is, they couldn't dribble like that, but they was burning by everybody who was defending them. Jordan, left, right, cross over. He over there in the stands like,
Starting point is 01:28:22 how you get crossed over by that? That's why Tim Hardaway was so me. He over there in the stands like, how you get crossed over by that? Yeah, that's why Tim Hardaway was so successful. Yeah. Anybody who went downhill, they didn't know what to do with. Yeah. You want to pack up the 70s real quick just so we can hit every generation? I'm trying to tell you this. If 95, Jordan had 55, right?
Starting point is 01:28:47 That whole game, them Chet highlights and Wimby highlights, those highlights was better than the whole game. There's not one memorable play from that Jordan's game. It was nothing. It couldn't jump for shit. No athleticism. No. Everybody had about 20, 27 inch vertical.
Starting point is 01:29:12 I'm sweating. God, man. It was Jordan and then Starks. After that, let it go. This is 95, though. Like, I'm looking at this like it's the 80s. This is 94. Like, I'm in the league six
Starting point is 01:29:26 years from now. This is 95 and I'm like yo this is horrible. This is horrible. So it didn't stay you remember when you were that age in 95 watching it. How did you feel? I didn't watch it. 95. But I mean but
Starting point is 01:29:43 when you're younger I'm pretty sure that was amazing basketball then. That's what I'm saying. I'm pretty sure it was amazing basketball when you're looking at it now and you're hearing all the criticisms about, you know, the defense, they play, let's get it back. I mean, Patrick Ewing had 30-something all free throws.
Starting point is 01:30:01 There's no way today, that Patrick Ewing, against y'all era, there's no way today that Patrick Ewing today against y'all era. There's no way he's doing what he did. He only went one way. Right shoulder. He's going right shoulder. He's going right shoulder.
Starting point is 01:30:13 Try to fade away every single time. And then if you're on the left block, you're going to try to go middle with the fade. That's all they moved. That was all they did. They never went. It was like, what is this? Soon as he got the ball, he going left, y'all. Go left.
Starting point is 01:30:27 There was no scouting report. Jordan, one, two, dribble, pull up. That's what he going to do. That's what he going to do, y'all. One, two, pull up. Come on. Come on, get with it. Pull up.
Starting point is 01:30:38 Come on. Harper, he want to go left, but he really ain't good as the left. It's like, what was the game plan here? Derek Harper, not Ron Harper, right? It doesn't matter. Ron Harper will pull up on this. No, it was... Derek Harper will not.
Starting point is 01:30:55 If Kobe... Listen, how about this? If Kobe Bryant, if you took Kobe Bryant and you put him on that Bulls team, just take Jordan out, put Kobe on that team. That team, Kobe's averaging 45, 50 for the season. They didn't shoot the ball.
Starting point is 01:31:14 But first quarter, the team 0 for 1. From three? No, 0 for 1 from the field. Oh, everybody. 12 minutes, the rest of the team shot one shot. Wow. What? Think about how much you averaged it.
Starting point is 01:31:32 Nobody else got to shoot. And we're okay with it. They was sitting there like, yeah, come on, MJ. Get him, MJ. Yeah. We're going to run a play, give it to MJ. Like, no one, like, you're telling me there's three other players on the court and then subs.
Starting point is 01:31:51 There was one shot taken. Man, I wish. I ain't got a. Yeah, no, I couldn't imagine. One shot. Think about it. No, I couldn't imagine. One shot, 12 minutes.
Starting point is 01:32:04 12 minutes, they got 25. Yeah, I wasn't looking for a whole lot, but yeah, I got one shot in the court, I'm going to be hot. He was happy with it. High-fiving and shit. Woo! That thing don't come my way, I'm going to take an ill-advised one.
Starting point is 01:32:21 Yeah, I'm going to squeeze. No, they all touched it. I'm going to squeeze. They swing it. Ah, ah, ah. We're going to come out time out. He's going to draw one up, and it's going to come out win. I'm sitting here like, I wish. I wish I played in the offense that I didn't have to give it to nobody else.
Starting point is 01:32:37 And when they did touch it, it's coming back to me. I ain't got a word about no ill-advised shot. Like, oh, boy. MJ never had to do this. Why you take that? Get it off the glass. If you by yourself put that up. Other than that, swing it back out. Offensive rebound, pump fake, throw it out. Every time they couldn't find MJD travel Do you bring Dennis Rodman into the fray he just Do they gonna be looking for you all-star weekend, you know, the whole heads gonna be out I don't know why that they played that game just
Starting point is 01:33:23 That was them. That wasn't me. Like, I'm just... Just pointing it out. I'm just looking at it now, like, seeing what y'all was doing. Yeah, he's just pointing it out. Like, it's been done, y'all. Yeah, don't... What did y'all look like?
Starting point is 01:33:33 Don't get mad at me that, you know, their scoring was going down from 88 to 94, and then they literally said, all right, we're going to take the two... I guess back then they can two-hand check. Yeah, it was... Two. Yeah. Then they got... I see why y'all was guarding people. Y'all get to do this. Said are we gonna take the two I guess back then they can two hand hand check. It was true Then they got I see why y'all was guarding people y'all get to do this and then it was like, all right, we're gonna Gary Payton first four years in NBA shot 125 threes
Starting point is 01:33:59 125 total. Mm-hmm. They moved a three-point line two feet The next three years shot 915. Damn. Boys is getting loose. MJ went from 30% to 40% after the change. It was a regular jump shot for him. Yeah. Man, I wish I played early 90s boy.
Starting point is 01:34:25 I could have been AI. We're sitting there just yanking dudes who couldn't move left or right. You can see why they banned his crossover. Can nobody guard. Can nobody guard that. Like they, man, think about a crossover like this. Go. Go. They stuck over there like, how did you fall for that, man?
Starting point is 01:34:47 Just, ah. That was so trash, man. I'm sorry. Steve Smith had the best move in basketball. Best move. Oh, oh, go. Half cross. Half, a half, a half cross.
Starting point is 01:35:01 Half spin, a half spin. Oh, oh, go. A half spin. That Smitty was, that shit was instant. Look over that shoulder like he gonna take the fuck out. That shit was instant. You know what? I know a game I'm gonna watch now.
Starting point is 01:35:13 I wanna watch run TMC. Ooh. I gotta watch, because if I'm, if. Yeah. There's no way they was guarding Tim Hardaway. He just must have been short then. Yeah, short. He was yanking him off.
Starting point is 01:35:28 He was just short then. I mean... MJ playing against Air Force? Yeah. But Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin, that was a squad. All the guards, it's like all the guards are little. Everybody under. Everybody 6'4 and under.
Starting point is 01:35:40 Who was 6'6 with Jordan that was at the shooting guard? Besides Ron Harper? Mitch Richmond, 6'4, Joe Dumars, 6'4. Clyde, 6'6. But he played like a three. He was a two. Terry Porter played the point. Terry Porter played the point. So Clyde was a two.
Starting point is 01:36:04 Was that his best defensive player that he had to guard cuz Damn Marley. I'm just saying the height wise in this position. I'm just saying how height wise it was. Yeah They were there wasn't bad. They weren't bad. What I'm saying is it's You just go away. You're going one two Just pull every time there's no absolutely spot There's no there's no body that can challenge, actually, physically, that can challenge a shot. Only time MJ had the pump figures were when you were.
Starting point is 01:36:29 Yeah, but they weren't athletic enough either. Yeah, they wasn't. And that was the thing. They might have been inside, but they weren't athletic enough to compete with it. What are you doing if Craig Elo's guarding you? Oh. Who?
Starting point is 01:36:38 Craig Elo. It wasn't a real match. Craig Elo's white, right? Yeah. Right? We don't see color on this show again. No, no, we see color if it's playing defense. I don't know what show you come from. You...
Starting point is 01:36:52 Yeah, he was going at Craig Eagle, right. Craig, I'll tell you what this is. When I was with the Wizards, right, and I remember I got Jason Terry in foul trouble, so he had to sit out. And then I forgot who had to guard me. I gave him two quick fouls, and then Dan Dickow came in the game. I did one four flat every single play until they just subbed him out. No, there was no running no offense.
Starting point is 01:37:23 It was going, I got the rebound on the fast break. There ain't no fast break either. Walking down. 14 straight shots. Oh my God. And I don't care. How many did you take? I don't care if the double was coming.
Starting point is 01:37:37 I'm not passing the ball. I'm not passing the ball. I'll give you a minute. The big guy will guard me. I had 30 something. Okay. Poor guy. No, you're not going to stop. You're not going to, that 30-something. Okay. Poor guy.
Starting point is 01:37:47 No, you're not going to stop. You're not going to do that. Not in this NBA. Craig, come on. Look at the... Yeah, I was... Well, I'm not going to... Never mind. The best small fours in the 90s,
Starting point is 01:38:02 three of them won six-man awards. You got bench players as top. Let me shut up. I said out of the ten, there's three of them. So, you know, there's three that were six-man winners. Taylor Shrimp. Uh-huh. Tony Kukoc.
Starting point is 01:38:31 Right? Cliff Robinson. There we go right there. They're all fours. Huh? All fours? They're all fours. Cliff was a four.
Starting point is 01:38:42 Tony Kukoc basically was a four. When they first started, they played three. Three, four. Four. Pip was a four. Tony Cuoco was a four. When they first started, they played three. Four, three, four. Four. Pip was the three. Two was, yeah, it's... I don't know what they was, man. I just know one thing, man.
Starting point is 01:38:55 De La Shrimp was fucking 6'10". Just stay in the 90s. That's all I'm saying. Y'all just stay in the 90s, man. Y'all keep up. Y'all talking about the, you know, there ain't no defense. There was no defense then. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:39:07 I'm sorry. There was no defense. Y'all just couldn't shoot the ball to put it in the basket. That was the difference. And that's why the great shooters, the ones that could really shoot stood out. Yeah. Like, they just couldn't. Like, you couldn't shoot.
Starting point is 01:39:19 Like, Jordan was a great shooter. Like, he can shoot the ball. Like, so when he got into his spot, like, it was cash money. Everybody else, like, stopped. Y'all didn't shoot the ball that well. Like, there was no threat. Let's hop back in the time machine, come back to present day NBA before we get out of here today. So, Canyon, as a former number one overall pick,
Starting point is 01:39:44 what advice would you give Wimby about navigating his rookie season on and off the court? the day, NBA, before we get out of here today. So, Canyon, as a former number one overall pick, what advice would you give Wimby about navigating his rookie season on and off the court? Off the court stuff is different than when I came in. Of course, you've got social media and all these. Wimby calling you right now. Yeah, that's him calling me. For some advice. No, no.
Starting point is 01:40:07 The pressure's on the floor. Just go hoop. There's no expectations on wins. Same thing like my rookie year. We sucked as a team. Won 26 games my rookie year. So there were no expectations, really. Just go out and hoop.
Starting point is 01:40:22 Whatever you average, you average. But you're trying to grow as a player. But no, just go out and hoop, man. Like ain't no, Pop and him going to do a good job at controlling the noise and the narrative around him. So I think he's in a good place with that. You know, I can't. I was...
Starting point is 01:40:47 The Nets and New York media, it wasn't... Because we wasn't really expected to do nothing. Had I been playing for the Knicks and as a rookie, then the media and all would probably have been
Starting point is 01:40:57 a little different. Team wasn't that good, so there would probably have been a little more noise around it. But him being in San Antonio, he's off the grid. They're going to be paying less attention to him, but it ain't going to in San Antonio, he's off the grid. They're gonna be paying, there's attention to him, but it ain't gonna be like that.
Starting point is 01:41:08 It's gonna be just game day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Versus being in LA, New York, kind of one of those markets. Definitely different in that regard. But no, I'm, his numbers gonna be what they are because he's gonna get a lot of opportunity.
Starting point is 01:41:21 Run a lot of stuff through him. We'll have fluorescent green light to shoot. So he just go hoop. And I think, yeah, whatever expectations he's put on himself is what they are. Yeah, so I don't, just go out and hoop, man. You shouldn't enjoy it. If you ain't doing nothing, you should enjoy it. What can the Spurs do to help win and be rich as full potential? Trade.
Starting point is 01:41:51 Whoever averaged 20 last year. I'm sorry, but I don't want nobody over here shooting the ball with the... And that's just the... I know it's rude.
Starting point is 01:42:05 You know what I mean? Because everybody's... Yeah, that's fucking terrible. Everybody's, you know, supposed to be... Everyone's important. Everybody's... Yeah, yeah, everybody's important. But I got somebody I'm trying to build the city around and I need him to do his thing now. So everybody else, like, y'all gonna get paid.
Starting point is 01:42:20 You can still do that. Y'all gonna do your thing. But I need him to shoot 40-something shots a game. And y'all gonna mess that up you know trying to keep up with the Joneses and to this Well, he'll make notice. I would love to see you be a Coach well, it's going to hunt it. I'm like I'm kind of like Dan Tony, but I have like a basics basic
Starting point is 01:42:39 Isn't we gonna be in it? We're gonna be in there yanking. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah Cuz I'm training to I'm not letting somebody who went to Boise State train my NBA players. I'm sorry. That's not how this works. Your Boise State are fine. I'm sorry, but no thank you. I don't care how many YouTube videos you done watched to put your training to know that's not how this works, okay? This boy said trade the guy that average 20 last yeah, yeah, yeah, it's horrible man. Hey clean did it for LeBron. Mm-hmm
Starting point is 01:43:14 Hey, I know you did well We go on go ahead let you go on trade you there's my you did good. What no, huh? Uh-huh Boozer you wanna play what I'm gonna play with the key and we'll play with thehuh. Boozer, you want to play with the king? You want to play with the king? All right. Do what you do. Want to play with the king? Oh, yeah, because there wasn't no control in Ricky.
Starting point is 01:43:34 Nah. Trigger going to get that bitch. He's going to fire that motherfucker. You know, there's my bet with him. Let's go. Let's go. Throw it up. Hey. Throw it up somewhere else.
Starting point is 01:43:43 So when we played them, I'm looking at, yo. If they knew, and listen, if Ricky and them like really bought in, who was guarding that on the fast break? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Braun was at the two. You had Braun, you had Darius Miles, and you had Ricky, and then he sometimes played the point with boozer man. I was
Starting point is 01:44:06 Like I'm seeing like one throw a lob to the other one. I'm like This is crazy This was crazy would have been like the sorry ass Clippers was with Lob City. Yeah, no before that with hello. There is good that Say yeah That's a hilarious clip. That... You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but it was... But it was just brown, but I'm just saying, it would have been that... Yeah, it would have been like... That excitement. It would have been exciting. But the Clippers was fucked to suck.
Starting point is 01:44:31 They was sorry as shit. They wasn't? Yeah, they was. They was fucking sorry as shit. For years. No, they stunk for years, man. For Donald Sterling. Oh, that was fucking bad basketball.
Starting point is 01:44:39 Oh, that shit was... Yo, that shit was horrible. Yeah, but I'm training my whole team, man. For Wimby? Yeah, yeah. For Wimby? Yeah, yeah. For Wimby? Yeah, yeah. For Wimby? No, they stunk for years. Donald Sterling. Oh, that was fucking bad basketball. Oh, that shit was horrible. Yeah, but I'm training my whole team, man. For Wimby?
Starting point is 01:44:50 So he can get off? I mean, I wouldn't even... Hey, y'all. Hey, team E. Hey, look. This is how we're going to do this. Wimby's guaranteed 20 shots. Okay, cool.
Starting point is 01:45:03 Period. Why can't you just keep them? They can with that message. So he just solved everything. He just solved everything just with that statement just now. 20 shots. Everything is solved.
Starting point is 01:45:14 Right? If I see he ain't getting 20 shots, if I see y'all ignoring him, if I see anything that looks like y'all... Is Wimby in this meeting? Yeah. No, he in the meeting. Then they need to hear. he sitting next to you?
Starting point is 01:45:26 So let me actually... Yo. So just hear me out for shits and giggle. Like, I ain't no mathematician or no shit, but what's, like, I think, like, four times five, what's that? You need five shots a quarter. That's easy.
Starting point is 01:45:38 That's easy. I had to think about that. That's easy, but that's easy, but it ain't easy. It's not easy. It's easy. Yeah, dude. For the guys on the team, you talk. But I'm just saying as a team.
Starting point is 01:45:48 But as a coach, sometimes you're going to have to relay that message sometimes so people just really understand. So we're going to the fourth quarter, and he got 10 shots. I know how y'all are approaching this quarter. You're going to have to do what the Lakers did with Kobe. Hey, hey, hey, he's off limits. Ain't no rookie hazing him. He ain't no rookie like that, okay?
Starting point is 01:46:08 I need his mental right. I mean, the way the game is played now, him getting 20 shots should be very easy for him to do. And allowing his teammates to not get 20 shots. Yeah, teammates be a part of greatness. Y'all want to win? The best way we win is get him going right now Alright other than that y'all are not part of this future unless he's happy No now, you know, this is this is the star. This is who we building on for the next couple years. So, you know
Starting point is 01:46:37 If y'all not on board with making him happy, you know, we can go ahead, you know I forgot a D League team somewhere somewhere in like Santa Fe, Mexico, whatever. Producer, there's somebody in the chat. Can you just clip that little section for me without any context? It's not fair you say that, Gil. What? I'm running this shit. I'm just saying, you know.
Starting point is 01:46:57 But let's get this thing moving. Let's do a little bit of Mostly Fans before we wrap the show for today. Presented by Underdog Fantasy. Starting point is 01:47:20 I don't like New York Knicks again. I thought you were going to have the whole city ready to fight us. Nah, you know, I took Julius Randle, 13 points. In the preseason? Yep. Yeah. I'll take Julius. He had 11 first quarter. Damn.
Starting point is 01:47:42 Didn't play no more. That hurts. I know. First quarter. Damn. Didn't play no more. That hurts. I know. You can't really mess with the preseason. You got me? Yeah, betting on the preseason is... That's the only one I lost yesterday.
Starting point is 01:47:54 We don't bet here, we just do pick. We don't bet. We're not bettors. We are merely pickers. We pick. Higher or lower. Pickers. Got it.
Starting point is 01:48:06 Sometimes even. Oh no, no, no. You was cash money when you played though. On the threes, they always had like one and a half, two and a half. I always took the higher. Yeah, as you should have been. I always took the higher, now you're gonna lie. Always. Few things match that feeling when you have that higher and then they hit.
Starting point is 01:48:22 I had to complain one time like, hey man, where Lexi at, bro? Put that one and a half or two and a half like you've been doing it they get smart though they start doing that shit or you see it then you come back like ten minutes later and go like nah that was the one that was my guaranteed green one and a half two and a half like I'm not as over I so let's get into this mostly fans one of my favorite underdog user name so his other dog fantasy user name is ball head Lou will how hard is it for players to flip a switch from offseason to training camp it should what someone it should be easy because we do a lot of
Starting point is 01:49:00 work in the summer like we do a lot of work in the summer, like we do a lot of work in the summer, the only thing that's different in training camp is you really going to hunt it, right? Like you going to hunt it because everybody's going to hunt it, right? It's just a different workout and your body just got to get used to just going hard twice a day, right? You know, for the most part it's running,
Starting point is 01:49:27 getting in shape, understanding plays, just getting, it's like, it's more getting back into your NBA season. Just get your mind out of vacation mode and chilling and put it back into, you know, it's go time. Yeah. Getting back into a routine. know, it's go time. Yeah. Getting back into a routine. Yeah, it is. That's probably the hardest part.
Starting point is 01:49:50 So I know pick up in the summer, you're not probably going 100%, probably around 50% if I had to guess, maybe less than that. Depends who you're going against. But are there other components of the workout where you're going 100%, 110% with the conditioning or any of that type of stuff? It's just, you can run, but it's just tough to implement it, man. Like, you can't, like, no matter what you do in your training, like, it's just tough when you're going up against other guys
Starting point is 01:50:14 and you're competing and you're talking, running, you're trying to, yeah, it's thinking on the fly. No, it's... Nothing can really match. No, you can't match training camp. Yeah, that's wild. Yeah, because the coach is going to put in some bullshit. He's going to put in a drill.
Starting point is 01:50:31 You're like, really? Did you come up with this shit in your sleep? Who the fuck made up this drill? What college coach did you see doing this? That's where they be getting that shit from. They go watch these colleges and, oh, I'm going to end. Oh, this was cool. I like that drill. Like, no, we don't like that drill.
Starting point is 01:50:53 No, but turn it on. Yeah, turn it off and on. You're just getting ready, man, mentally and your body. They doing a couple teams going back to doing two of these, a couple. Yeah. Even on, like like I remember we had the drill They told us before right we're gonna do four sets to ten Right, so you have to make it in this time. So it's like guards like 54 seconds, right? so
Starting point is 01:51:19 I'm four weeks. I'm training 51 cool. Yeah, it Cold. It's a breeze. When training camps start and you got people, you can hear people's voice. Man, it got me running faster, like messing up my time. Like, how close is he? Right? You start hearing footsteps, man. Now you exerting more energy.
Starting point is 01:51:41 Coach is yelling at you. Right? I did it the night before, so I'm ready, man. After each one, I'm sitting there like. God damn. Yeah. Like, I'm prepared for this. But them voices, the time, all of it changes.
Starting point is 01:51:56 It just changes, man. Right? My rookie year, first drill we did was probably the worst drill I've ever done in like training shit ever, like basketball wise. Pat Riley implemented shit called easy run. Listen dog. I was talking about, I was talking to a buddy with Lawrence Frank the other day, like the first drill.
Starting point is 01:52:21 Get stretched and the motherfucker say line up. Like get loose and line up bro Muffin say line up. Like get loose and line up, bro. Go free throw line extended, got two lines. Hands up, put 20, 25 minutes on the clock. You say go. Run, get to the end of the court, just defensive slide to the end,
Starting point is 01:52:41 you backpedal, slide, run, and you repeat this shit. Listen, dog. Come here as a... It's the first thing I did as a rookie. I'm coming off an injury. I'm trying to get healthy. It's the first thing I do. I'm trying to prove to these people I ain't no punk bitch. You know what I'm saying? They're already thinking shit about the workout that I didn't put on before the draft.
Starting point is 01:53:01 I went in there, bitch, and didn't do shit for the pre-draft thing. Nothing. One trip, shoes off, what you gonna do? I'm trying to prove to them I'm back, I'm ready. Before the draft, because I wasn't that bitch that didn't do shit for the pre-draft thing. Like nothing. One trip, shoes off, what you going to do? So I'm trying to prove to them I'm back, I'm ready. And you come out easy running the first thing. Oh no. First day, the training camp was over. Like legs shot, laboring the rest of the day.
Starting point is 01:53:21 They looking at me like, this motherfucker ain't tough. Ain't nobody this bitch tough after that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So year two, I was ready for that ass. Year two, I was ready for it. I got something for you, Jack. I'm going to run like him, but I ain't going to run half the drill.
Starting point is 01:53:35 I'm going to slide my feet going backwards. Could you imagine running backwards for 10 minutes? How your calves would feel? Calves, hammies. You ever do that layup, like it was that layup drill where they got like two passes at half court and y'all line up and y'all pass it. And the line keep moving back?
Starting point is 01:53:54 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the ball can't touch the ground? Yeah, ball can't touch the ground. You got to try to get a certain number. Yeah, the ball. Oh, I remember like you'll come in and I, no offense, you in front of me. Oh, I'm going to skip you.
Starting point is 01:54:04 No, watch out. Watch out. Oh, boy, we not playing this shit. Girl, you see these calves. No of me, no. Watch out. Watch out. Homeboy, we not playing this shit. Yeah, you see these calves. No, we didn't let Dikembe go. Yeah. Like Deke, Tom McCullough. Yeah, you gotta start strategizing those girls.
Starting point is 01:54:14 Dikembe, Tom McCullough, we didn't let them go. No, you just sitting in line. No, no, listen, don't even worry about it, dog. Yep. No, no. We ain't trying to end this. Ball ain't finna touch this fucking ground fucking with you.
Starting point is 01:54:23 No, no, no, seriously. Yeah, that's serious, man. You had to put the slow people. Yeah, we got no, we wouldn't even. Like, that's how you're gonna be like, nah, nah, nah, nah. And the ball ain't finna touch this fuck ground fucking with you Yeah, we got two minutes to go we have to get a certain number or we all gotta run Stop We sitting in and you know, like nah, he got no, no, no, he don't Don't let him, Mr. Layup. Oh, my God. Oh, he got... Hey, let me miss another one.
Starting point is 01:54:51 Let me miss another one, nigga. Mr. Layup. You got six, seven, eight people yelling at you. And what ends up happening is you dunk it and let that ball... You dunk hard and bounce somewhere
Starting point is 01:55:00 and we couldn't get on rhythm. Oh, like, little things like that, man. That's what... Get that motherfucker, nigga you you better lay it right Go go go right through ready. I can just run and grab Bitch on the glass so Listen man all that. Yeah Duncan those are look but those are the little things that like determine like if I like this player
Starting point is 01:55:20 Man, this he's sitting there dunking and the ball bounce. I got to go get, oh no, we off dude. We had a teammate, doing a little coach pick a player, the two free throw joint and you miss you got to run, right? So we got an asshole on the team. He want to miss on purpose. Miss on purpose. Now I got to threaten your well being. Miss another one, I'm going to weak your ass when we get downstairs, man.
Starting point is 01:55:47 Dead ass. Coach always pick the worst free throw shooter, man. No, but this dude was... No, but this motherfucker... Oh, he can make it. He just did... Yeah. That's insane.
Starting point is 01:55:57 Yo. Richard? No, this was Denver. No, this was Denver Day. That sounded like a Richard move right there. No, no, no, no. This was Denver Day, dude. I'm like, dude, you missed another one, dude. I'm like, dude, you missed another one, dude. I'm like, this was Denver Day. That sounded like a Richard Boone right there.
Starting point is 01:56:05 No, this was Denver Day, dude. I'm like, dude, you missed another one, dude. Next question from Underdog User, Let's Go Magic. I don't know where we're going, but I hope it's Johnson and not the Orlando Magic. Do you guys think the league is trying to make the game easier for the defensive players? I think they're trying to autocorrect and make it some type of fairness in it.
Starting point is 01:56:36 I think everyone's stuck with this idea of a golden era. They're stuck on what defense look like and how to get it back to that day it can't right you know when you're talking about defense back there was there was a point in time where defense was 75% compared to the offense ability right and then once the offense started to catch up at this
Starting point is 01:57:03 point in time it's it, it's 80 to 10. There's no defense. There's nothing you're going to do. Think about it. As a defensive player, what are you doing in the summer to enhance your defensibility? What tricks are you watching film, learning what a guy is doing to figure out these tricks? No. But the offensive players, I'm remembering what Kenyon did to me.
Starting point is 01:57:30 I remember, okay, when I went here, he baited me, then pulled the chairman. Now I'm training for his defense, right? He's not training for my offense. I'm training for his defense. James Harden is training for what a Patrick Beverly is doing, what a Jimmy, but he's training for that. He's training the rules. So he's spending all summer working on a move for this defense and for this rule. So what ends up happening
Starting point is 01:57:51 is the offense became so good that it's like... Like, how are you training for goddamn Jordan Poole? You don't know where he going. You know what I mean? This man is going this way. His first two dribbles might start that way.
Starting point is 01:58:06 And then come back this way. You ain't trained no fucking defense for no shit like that. Only thing I wish they would. That's fucking true. That's fucking, listen, don't get no bad example. The only thing I wish they would, what they took out, and it's this whole freedom of movement thing. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:58:31 I get, yeah, you want this game to be free-flowing. You want this game, guys to score more. Yeah, I get that. On the ball, yeah, cool. But off the ball, I think you should be able to motherfucking touch somebody. That's my whole thing. Like, all that, if you go, I'm coming, setting the screen, you got to get open. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:58:53 Instead of, if I do this shit, it's a foul. You know what I'm saying? If you go to move and I boom, it's a fucking foul because I didn't. Like, no, if you on the ball, yeah, you free movement all you want. I can't get up until you hand check you, force you where I want you to go. Yeah, all freedom of movement all you want. I can't get up until you hand check you force you where I want you to go Yeah, all that cool. Mm-hmm off the ball. I think there should be a little more And I ain't saying you know how we used to do you come across every now you on your back looking up at me No, no, you know I'm saying like no I don't think it should be that extreme because that shit used to get like
Starting point is 01:59:20 Don't cut this should be basically like, don't touch. It used to be ridiculous, Gil. I watched some of the best shooters in the NBA. It used to get ridiculous. Wide open off of a simple down screen. Yeah, because you can't touch them. You can't touch them. You can't fucking touch them. Obviously, it's the entertainment aspect of professional basketball, but there's a certain point where you want this to be competitive.
Starting point is 01:59:39 Steph Curry getting four or five wide open threes a game is always insane to me off simple pin downs. Because you can't grab it. It's simple pin downs. Yeah, because before you could- You can't grab the shoulder, but if I can touch you while riding you, that's fine. Remember how the top lock used to be, right? Huh?
Starting point is 01:59:55 Remember how the top lock used to be? Yeah, yeah, yeah. We still- I'm getting dead into your shit, and I'm going to force your ass back. Other way. I'm going to force you baseline. I'm going to be dumb aggressive with I'm a force you baseline like I'm gonna get I'm gonna be wet dumb aggressive Which because I know this screen coming I ain't trying to get screened and I'm a move
Starting point is 02:00:10 This is mama make you you do that now. They them up for goat It's a fire because he gonna boom boom He gonna try to go over the top and you gonna try to redirect me it's gonna be a fire I just should borrow like even when like Like you know like even when we training, we're training like, nah, nah, he going to hold me,
Starting point is 02:00:26 push that. Now I got to push you in to V out. Like now you don't have to do that because. And if Steph does it now, it's, he got eight foot of separation. I'm saying. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:00:37 Now if he adds that in, cause I can bump you, you can't bump me. Yeah. So you go to bump me and I can't boom, grab your hip a little bit. Like, like, no,
Starting point is 02:00:43 it's a foul. Now that's part of it. You just use your shit to get open. I can't use grab your hip a little bit like no it's a foul. No that's part of it. You just use your shit to get open. I can't use my shit to stop you from getting open? Right. Yeah. Like yeah I just wish they would implement that. Like I said it ain't got to be like.
Starting point is 02:00:54 Alright well like when I said when we came in though you chuck a motherfucker like that shit was like. You getting hit four, five, six times you cut through the paint. What's so funny is. Like damn like on a cross screen No, no, what's funny? What's funny is now when you think about it? Adam Silver said The best defense the toughest era for defense was the late 90s early 2000s that makes sense Versus what everybody else is because now the four and the five is tall.
Starting point is 02:01:26 The four and the five is physical, right? They're really like you coming in the lane. When I come in the lane and I'm sitting here trying to do a brush screen or just cut in the lane and someone's, ah, because that was the thing. Except when you see a late cut, you're going to get hit. You coming in, you coming in trying to flash. I hit you and ride you up. That was drills. Boom, let go. That's right. You ain't ready to get your sternum. Just gonna Yeah, no, I just what it was like if I saw guilt like just yeah
Starting point is 02:01:57 JJ Barrera mm-hmm You come set that down screen on me and listen. no, dude. I'm going to eat you up. Pick yourself up, dog. Sometimes they might call it. It depends on how hard I hit you. But no, I wouldn't let you go through the lane. On a simple cross screen, you might get bumped three, four times. Yeah, because they talk to sag down because you know the play they're running. You sag down and whoever at the play they running. The sag
Starting point is 02:02:25 down and whoever at the top going to boom you, your man going to hit you,
Starting point is 02:02:28 then you talked the bump high, carry low. You didn't got hit three separate times on a simple
Starting point is 02:02:32 cross screen. Now it's just a guy that's guarding you. You might get touched and you
Starting point is 02:02:37 got to guard him like this to go on the cross screen. Like, nah,
Starting point is 02:02:41 that ain't basketball. You got to be able to, like I said, if a guy got the ball in his hand, yeah, you don't want to be able to Derek Harper him, control you to where you, like, put two hands.
Starting point is 02:02:50 I get all that. But, yeah, they just took that part of it out, which real hoopers understand. The fans, I get. I'm saying this is the old reference, like, in football, like chicks dig the long ball. Of course, throw the ball deep home runs threes i get it but there are certain aspects of the game that i think they i feel they should re-implement
Starting point is 02:03:13 and yes that's for real before we move to the third question chat i see uh y'all wilding out here you said something about touching while riding and you got hit with a bunch of AOs and that's crazy and pauses. What did I say? 40-year-old grown men. I can touch you while riding. What an immature chat room. We're 40-year-old grown men on this show.
Starting point is 02:03:33 I don't participate in the hauls and the AOs. I don't do none of that shit. I'm grown. I'll say what the fuck I want to say. Let's get that shit understood right now. I understand. I support you. 40-year-old grown ass man. I'll say what the fuck I want to say. Let's get that shit understood right now. I understand. I support you. 40-year-old grown-ass man.
Starting point is 02:03:48 I wish I would. I got some cornbread in the back for you. I have a chain that you can have. Man, that shit is weak. Nah, that shit is a bottle. We just been in the locker room and shit, man. We trying to watch film. We trying to get better as a fucking team and the coach can't conduct film because you
Starting point is 02:04:02 niggas in there, oh, yo, pause. Hey. Man, shut, yo, pause. Hey. Man, shut up. Fucking shit, man. Dead ass serious, man. That shit bothers me, man. Like. Well, I would never. I would never.
Starting point is 02:04:16 I would never get a shot to watch film, but y'all back there. Yeah, yo. You ain't swing the balls. Hey, hey, yo. Yeah, you need to get your hands on more balls when they come. Yeah, yo. Like. Get the loose balls. Don't let him. Get your hands on balls. Hey, yo. Yeah, you need to get your hands on more balls when they come. Yeah, yo. Get the loose ball. Don't let him.
Starting point is 02:04:29 He's backing you down. Why you didn't be more. Yo, coach. Like, come on, man. Dude, shut up. And this is when I'm on the team with grown, dude. That ain't no young team. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 02:04:40 Like, this dude was 30 plus in the locker room doing this shit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Age limit. Yeah, 30 and R, you got a chip. That's what I'm saying. It was a thing then. It was a whole fucking thing, dog. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 02:04:48 Like, and dude, for us to be in 20s, I understand shit comes back around and time, but they bringing this shit, it's like, come on, man. You can't even have a simple conversation with certain people and it's not this fucking childish shit going on, man. So let's move on to our third question, the last question of the day. This is a little bit of history. This is our first video question, MostlyFans.
Starting point is 02:05:11 You got MostlyFansGil at gmail.com. We got a first video? We're going to ask questions, but we got a question from Miranda6PM, a dedicated follower of the show. What's up, guys? Gil, Joe, Brandon, Rashad, Kenyon. It's Miranda6PM. And my question is how can we don't ever see signature moves in the league no more like the Smitty or
Starting point is 02:05:28 the sham God how come we don't see signature moves in the league no more you mean because everybody working out the same fucking trainers they know that you got to see us you move they all, they all do it. They all fucking doing it like that They all working out the same fucking trying to doing the same fucking moves and that's just what yeah You have LeBron With the most lethal move. You have CP. James Harden. Yeah, you have CP.
Starting point is 02:06:06 You have James Harden. But for the most part, it's right. CP's the right hand step back. Everyone's training with the same trainers, or everyone's getting the same type of movement, same type of attributes. And they're not really trying to figure out what they're great at. Like, KD's signature move is
Starting point is 02:06:28 his double cross when he eat at right the left and then one two right back the left I mean you know left the right that's his signature move so everyone has it it just has a standout as much as it used to because usually everybody's go-to move now is a sidestep or a step back. Like, Lucas is the, he throws the ball forward, between the legs, step back. I mean, so if you know what you're looking for, you know the thing.
Starting point is 02:06:54 Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah, no, it's, it's, no, I, when you hit somebody with that Sham God, though, it's, Yeah, I was, yeah, I mean, pfft. Hey, that thing mean. That was different. Because it still works today.
Starting point is 02:07:09 I mean, you know. Oh, yeah, you can write situations. Sham God works on great defenders. Like a lazy defender? Nah, because you was going to be there. Somebody aggressive. There's that aggressive defender that's trying to overbeat you, and you throw it out there, he got you.
Starting point is 02:07:23 Oh, you'll get Pat Bevin on there. Somebody on Sham God, Pat to death. you and you throw it out that he got you get pet baby Sham guy Pat the death Whoa, hey, you know, let me talk to you, you know, pat a clip you What you better do and I like with Jason we hit GP with that No, no now. Hey, we ain't gonna embarrass me. Yeah, you too late. You missed him Or the AI DoubleI. Double cross. Oh, listen.
Starting point is 02:07:47 Yeah. Yo, the double touch the ground. Antonio Daniels. Yep. Oh, my God. I was there on the side. I can't leave the corner, my bad. Got a shooter right here.
Starting point is 02:07:55 What? Hey, he double touched that thing. You better not hit it. Another legendary day in Gil's Arena. Shout out to everybody who asked a multi-fans question. Shout out to Miranda6pm. Always ask good questions, and you get blessed with $50 bonuses. You got to give her 100.
