So, before we start the show, Gil, we got to congratulate your son, Elijah, and his high school squad for their big win last night to reach the state championship game.
Later this week, shout out Chas Ward.
He almost had a triple-double in the game.
I watched the highlights last night on YouTube. Shout out Quick Hoops.
I didn't watch it. You didn't watch
any of it? No, my daughter played too.
She played Etiwanda.
This was her last high school game, so I had to be there for
the...
two and a half hours.
Where did they play at? Etiwanda.
They've been in the IE. See, they gotta stop doing that
like they get to play on their home
court thing. Neutral sites for the championship. You gotta have somebody filming. Uh, like they get to play on their home court thing neutral sites for the champ
You gotta have somebody filming

They said Matt Barnes, Nick had to sneak in the other way, and they still tried to kick him out.
I seen Nick Young get into the game.
It was like, nah, he's famous.
To support his Cleveland squad.
Yeah.
Took the L, and unfortunately, your daughter's squad, Sarah King, and they lost it at a one.
Yeah, lost by three.

Clear out, clear out.
But here's what we got cracking in the arena today.
Wimby may be the future of the league, but is he even the best big man in Texas?
Alperin Shangun has some thoughts.
Luka dropped his fourth straight 30-point triple-double,
but the Mavs are 1-3 in those games.
But how much blame does he deserve for the Mavs' defensive issues?
And what statement did the Suns make getting a big win in Denver without Devin Booker?
Shout-out to KD dropping the 35-piece, willing his team to victory in overtime.

So we got a lot to get into today, but
we're going to start with something I saw on the internet that was a little scary. A lot of great things
about New York. You said on the internet? I saw on the internet. Everything scares you
on the internet. A lot of great things about New York. Fine city, fine people. You were
just out there, right? Just out in NY? That rodent situation is not one of those great
things, though. So I saw this video posted recently.
So you see this big ass rat right here.
Oh shit.
Get snatched up.
And what's snatched up?
You may wonder.
We will find out.
And just say, see a creeping hiding.
Hide it.
And look what pops up.
An even bigger rat.
Now that's a big ass rat.
Wow.
Master splinter.
That's master splinter in the cut.
So you saw a big rat,
but it got taken out by an even bigger rat
on a New York subway.
So I got to know from all y'all,
which animal are you the most afraid of?
Because I don't really mess with rats.
Be honest, I'm not even going to lie, I'm scared of everything.
Rats, spiders, roaches, ants, them red ants.
Red ants, okay.
Yeah.
I jump at leaves if they move too fast.
I'm not even going to lie to you.
Snakes, lizards.
Lizards?
Yeah.
Wait, they want to know wonder are you afraid of butterflies?
You know I'm not gonna swat it away, but okay you let it live
Mosquitoes yeah, I'm gonna get oh, yes that West Nile. Yes, nor snakes what are you most afraid of snakes?
Anything that
Could kill me and like devour me me, I got to stay away from that.
Flies?
Yeah.
Flies?
Yeah.
Yeah, a thousand of them.
Yeah.
Yeah, if it's a thousand of them.
Big ass anaconda.
A thousand flies?
I mean, one or two, but a thousand of them.
You out of here.
I'm out of here.
I'm out of here.
I got to get a blow torch.
Mag is undesirable. Rashad, how about yourself? out here. I got to get a blowtorch. Maggie's undesirable.
Rashad, how about yourself?
Roaches.
Which animal are you the most afraid of?
Hood rats.
I'm terrified.
I'm terrified.
The Chandra?
That's a double montagna.
Yeah.
That's a triple montagna.
I could go either way, yeah.
Jeez, I seen a hood rat on the internet the other day.
Eating with her hands.
Talking about, man, talking about this.
She like this.
They like her bad.
I was like, ooh, keep that away from me.
Lord.
Stay over there.
Stay over there.
Stay over there.
The largest version of rodent.
Woo.
Shit.
A great day hood rat.
Yeah, them hood rats cost you a lot of money,
so yeah, you got to be scared of them. You're right, you're right.
They be out here investing in them.
They be investing in hood rats. They be getting bigger and bigger.
I'm like, leave them alone.
Please.
They migrating over this way. Leave them.
That's why I move all the way down to the beach.
I said, mm-mm.
They can't swim.
They definitely want to stay away from the water.
They don't like pools or large bodies of water.
Or humidity or none of that shit.
At least you can go outside down to the beach.
You can start at some.
Yeah.
So, you know, speaking of hood rats, but more just women in general, Gil, you hopped on
your personal page today to offer all the ladies out there some advice for how to move in a relationship.
So, Gil, what is your best advice for women on how to navigate a relationship?
Okay, so look, because, you know, men, we get blamed for who we become, right?
Who we become.
For you, continue. You know you're fucking it up for us now, right? Who we become. Before you continue, you know you're fucking it up for us now, right?
Because you gave away the whole blueprint.
But they're women.
They don't listen to me.
I know.
They don't.
They're not going to listen to me.
They don't listen to you.
But go ahead.
Go ahead.
So I'm saying, like, in reality, this is what it is.
Basically, shut the fuck up, right?
That's your boy. Yeah, no we go and have dinner with males
Right you give us the the blueprint to how to get to your your panties
Okay, right you give us you tell us everything what your last man did wrong
Okay, you want a God-fearing man, even though we don't go to church Okay, right you you're giving us the list of how to get to your heart
And then you get mad at us that we use the items on this list. Mm-hmm, right
You know how stupid we have to be as men to get everything
And then don't use none of it
Yeah, crazy. So I'm saying basically shut up on the first date, on the second date, and let us figure
out how to get to you because that's who we got to turn into.
I don't need to turn into nothing if I have the list.
Got the answer to the test.
I got the answer to the test.
I'm going to use it.
But what if they are giving you that blueprint because they want you to improve
upon their previous relationship?
So they're offering you that information.
Exactly.
They're molding you into the man they want you to be.
Exactly.
No, no, no.
We are the man who we are.
We are who we are.
Right there.
I am who I am already.
And so you say you like to go to church?
Oh, yeah.
I'm going to go to church until I get the draws. And then it's like. Oh, yeah, I'm gonna go to church Until I get the draws and then I am busy
You know the Cowboys is playing today
Once I get to what I need to I get to go back to being who I am
But that's the but that that was the premises of it like you're telling me kill kill. I'm sorry. I'm sorry
You fuck yeah, I got apologize the church folks. I gotta apologize
I gotta apologize to all the work that I deserve
We all the first week I go to church
Just say I mean all the work that
Got the strays throughout the years of that manipulation tactic
It's a manipulation tactic. It's it's definitely I'm an interrogator a master interrogator
I'm gonna ask all the questions and I'm gonna get the list and I'm gonna say huh? Oh, this is what I gotta be
This is what I gotta do.
Okay, thank you.
Thank you.
Character in motion.
In motion.
Thank you, this is what I gotta be.
Okay, cool, press play.
Okay, and then when I stop that video,
stop doing all of that, she goes,
why you don't do it no more?
I said, I'm a new nigga today.
I'm a whole new character.
Got a whole new project over here.
Clock struck midnight.
Yeah.
The Dorella story.
They think we sheeps.
Well, we're wolves.
That's the fact.
When a guy go on the internet and he start pandering, yeah, man, we need to do this.
That's the game.
Listen, he's looking at the comments of the last video and say, yeah, that's how you talk to him.
Then he go on his video, do the same thing.
Y'all going to be in the DMs. What, yeah, that's how you talk to him. Then he go on his video, do the same thing. Y'all gonna be in the DMs and...
What was that dude that got busted?
Derek. Derek Jackson?
Yes. Simping.
Simping. He was simping for sure.
But that's what I'm saying.
Women want simps and then wonder why every man
turned into a simp. That's what you want.
Well, look, that's what you don't need.
Listen, guys, you don't need to go out here simping. Yeah, you do. Fucking up your pimping. Just find look, that's what you don't you don't need listen guys. You don't need to go ahead simping
Yeah, you do fucking up your pimping. Let's find them. I come forget them
Okay, you find them you find out what they won't give them what they won't then you forget about what they won't and then they
Let you go
They'll let you go. You ain't gotta break up with them. They'll break up with you
Why you don't treat me like you used to?
You're creating some monsters out there, though.
Oh, you know what I'm saying?
Yeah, you're creating some monsters.
See, we dealing with...
You create monsters when you act like that.
That's why I had to apologize.
They can become more vicious.
That's why I had to apologize.
I had to say I'm sorry.
They can become vicious, too.
I sent a lot of them to the sanitarium.
They went to the...
They...
Cuckoo birds now.
The cuckoo.
One to the penitentiary and went to the crazy house.
Have you been on Instagram lately?
Yeah, when we was in the league, man, there wasn't no Instagrams.
There wasn't no cuckoo birds like that.
Now they all 40, 42, 43, still on Instagram.
Been on there 10 years.
You ain't sold shit yet.
You ain't sold that thing yet.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Gil's Arena.
We talk about a lot of different things other than basketball.
But if you listen closely.
I'm still ready to buy. I'm still ready to buy.
Go ahead and drink today.
I'm still ready to buy, but God damn, it's advertising everywhere.
Y'all make it hard out here.
Yeah, they make it difficult.
Norris, I know you're a strong guy for your man, so.
Listen, I understand what he's saying.
I'm church-going, man, this week.
I've been banned.
She said she likes you like a God-fearing man
at the end of the church, so, you know,
I got about seven more hours for some church stuff.
I ain't no simp, but I reciprocate the energy that I want.
I give out the energy that I want.
That's important.
That's hard.
It is tough.
No, because if you give out the energy that you want, think about it. That's hard. It is tough. No, because if you give out
the energy that you want,
think about it.
But I ain't for the streets, though.
Oh, okay, because I'm trying to...
It's an energy for everybody.
Yeah, for sure.
It's an energy for everybody.
But they call us womanizers
and all that kind of stuff
when you're a strong man.
You know what you want.
I've been banned
off all the dating apps.
I've been banned, bitch.
What do you want?
What the hell
you get banned for?
Yeah, what do you want?
Because I be telling them, like, you ain't all that.
They be like, he's harassing me.
I'm like, but baby, I'm just being honest.
You see it.
You know, I've been all over the world.
I know what a bad bitch look like.
Take off that wig and that makeup.
Let me see what you really look like.
Uh-oh.
All right, well, I feel like that was a sufficient amount of that.
I hope our mothers know it.
$100 fantasy. Please, please let us get one more show. Just one more before you cancel.
Yeah, because these kind of clips go viral and fuck me up. I can't get no days no more.
That might be part of it.
They go right back to the, what is that real about? Find them fucking men and get them.
Stevie, baby. See, fuck him, and forget him.
That's what I'm saying.
They don't believe me.
I don't believe you.
Let's get to some basketball with a little hibachi time.
Every day is an experience.
On Gills Arena presented by Underdog Fantasy.
Woof.
Woof.
Woof.
Woof.
So Celtics pulled up to Cleveland for the Kelsey Brothers bobblehead night.
Fresh off a 52-point win over the Warriors.
Riding an 11-game winning streak.
With Donovan Mitchell still sidelined and Evan Mobley leaving the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury,
Boston once again got cooked by a D-Wade.
So the D-Wade in this case was Dean Wade.
Wade put up 20 points in the fourth quarter.
Went hard on him.
Oh, take that bucket Drew Holliday.
Cavs came back, erased the Celtics lead.
So amongst those 20 points was this game winning put back dunk with 19 seconds remaining to
help the Cavs overcome a 20 point deficit.
What some controversy in the game.
So you see on this play right here,
initially, Jason Tatum whistled for a foul.
Is that a natural leg motion?
You think that's a foul, Norris?
It's him and his chest.
No, he didn't touch him, though.
You're talking about Jason Tatum foul?
Garland was whistling for a foul here.
Cavs challenged.
They reviewed the play.
Overturned the call.
After the game, Dean Wade got some love for Travis Kelsey.
As the Cavs got the dub.
So, let's talk a little bit about Cleveland.
It could have went either way.
Yeah.
You guys are knowledgeable hoopers.
You think foul, no foul?
No call.
No call.
Overturn it.
Because you could have called offensive.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah, you could have called the offensive.
You could have called anything and they let it play.
It reminds me of that high school game in Jersey that we just watched that's going viral right now
where the kid shot the ball.
The ball is already out of the net.
45 seconds to go, right?
And they overturned it.
Like, once it goes viral, once it goes viral and you see the ball was out of his hands,
shouldn't they reverse that now?
Yes, they should.
Right, they should reverse it and say, all right, actually the other team wins
because obviously it's clear because you don't know what them refs' motives are.
Right?
You know what I mean?
You don't know what the ref had on the game or nothing, but you can clearly see that that was a win.
So I kind of like that we can challenge calls now.
As Tatum, I would be mad because, motherfucker, you blew it.
Star A, star status.
For sure. I guess, but once we can see that it wasn't a foul,
then they should be able
now to take wins off
and credit.
It should.
What's the point of having it
if you can't change it?
Yeah.
Why have replay
in the two-minute report
and all that
if you can't go back
and correct,
especially if it directly
impacts the win or a loss?
Yeah.
I don't think that
directly, they shouldn't have even came to that that you right soon. They came that should go to Cleveland
Yeah, they came all the way back
Yeah
And like you said if it's a 50-50 call don't make the call or let the player
Let the players make the make the game win. Yeah, because if you make that shot
Like okay something like this. You remember?
The Boston would brawn in the hand. That's a foul right? Okay. brawn in the hand that's a foul right okay
So now that we know that's a foul
right
The game wins the overtime
instead of two free throws
Have whatever how many seconds is left?
Shouldn't they just redo this game and give brawn the two free throws at the end to see if he makes it if he makes
It game over Cleveland gets to win if he misses it. If he makes it, game over. Cleveland gets the win. If he misses it,
then it's overtime. If it goes to overtime,
Boston got the win.
Because the adrenaline of that moment,
we don't know if Brian will make
those free throws or not because of the moment.
But it don't matter. What I'm saying is
because he received
that there was a foul, so he
should be credited two free throws.
We don't care if he was in the moment then or not. He should be able to be credited two free throws. For sure. We don't care if he was in the
moment then or not. He should be able to get
two free throws. So if he makes
one or both, he wins. If he
misses them both, Boston wins because they
won in overtime. So we already know what the result
in overtime is. Boston won.
But we don't know
if LeBron misses those free throws. Will that fuel
him to greatness to go get the win in OT?
But he didn't.
He didn't get the win.
He didn't get the free throws.
But he was pissed, though.
No, but no, if he gets the free throws, the game's over.
He was emotionally out of it, though, after that moment
with such a blatant missed call from the ref.
If he makes the free throw, that's game over.
But I'm saying if he misses them, we still got to play to overtime.
Yeah, but that's what I'm saying.
They already played overtime.
And Boston won in overtime.
They was down one?
No, it was a tie game.
It was a tie game. Yeah. I say split overtime. They was down one down. No, it was tie game. It was a tie game
Yeah, I say split it just give him one point then he wouldn't then bug then they win
Yeah, just give him the one point because you don't know if you're gonna make one miss one make both miss both
That's I said in the moment like I'm saying I'm thinking about if in Boston you're gonna want him to shoot the two free throws
Because because if you give him one a win. Game's over. If he goes and shoots
two and he misses them both, we get the win no matter what because we won in overtime.
So we already played overtime, so we know who the winner is. But stuff like that, that
should be rules in if you're going to...
And it has happened. It's not unprecedented, I believe. They have had to come back and
replay a game.
It was like a He game, right?
It was a He game?
Yeah, but I think different players on the roster, so it ended up being asinine.
But there have been challenges that have been won and had those games replayed.
I'm sick of that, man.
Why we had this stuff and we ain't going to correct it?
So, we have to say, why have it?
Especially for the 5-4-3-2-1 game situations.
You know, other situations, second, third quarter, I get it.
But, like, when this is directly impacting the winner or loss,
the two-minute report does no good for you to say, hey, yeah that call I don't even want the two minute yeah I know right doesn't even
matter yeah ref should definitely be like or that blowing the call literally
in a make-or-break situation is that that's a as you can't have that you know
I hate you know I hate the refs. In a sense. You think?
It seems like the two-minute report saves them from embarrassment.
But then use the two-minute report to do correction then.
If you're not going to find them.
Because listen, obviously you're going to miss calls.
We get it.
Everything's moving fast.
You're watching. Sometimes you forget you're at the miss calls. We get it, right? Everything's moving fast. You're watching.
Sometimes you forget you're at the job, just like some of us.
You can drop a plate right now, and we go out there, and we forget because we're thinking about something else.
So we know the human nature's in it.
But the two-minute report should correct a lot of things, right?
If we're not going to embarrass the refs by the calls they made or we're not going to fine them for just not doing their job or doing their job or missing you know things on the job then it
should be corrected to the winners like okay you missed a foul here foul here
they could have been in the penalty like there's there has to be correction that
penalty shit oh you might boom they're already in the penalty this was clearly
a foul shit fucking one-on- For sure. Because we get held accountable.
Yeah.
And we get too many bad plays, we be on that bench.
Yep.
Messing with your bread.
Too many bad plays.
Us players on that bench.
And that be the thing, too.
When you have a play that's not your fault and the ref fucked it up, but it looked like
it's your fault, so the coach is, he got to bring you out.
It just looked bad.
It's like, boy, you done had three straight possessions of bullshit. But this motherfucker. Man, he's got to grab my out. It just looked bad. It's like boy. You don't have three straight possessions of bullshit
Grab my arm man. He's just totally just throw the ball and can't go talk about him at the yeah
And then it's twisted lemonade. It's a little strong
You know you're lightweight

He'll be there
We're doing Gil Rashad shoot off
In the parking lot. I'm ready. But let's talk about these calves
I was getting that big win over the Celtics without Donovan Mitchell.
Currently third in the East.
Is it time to start putting some respect on the Cavs' name, Norris?
I think you got to give credit where credit's due.
When you say put respect in their name, I don't know about the championship type of respect yet.
Yeah, just a little bit.
Slow that down a little bit.
But for regular season, they're doing what they're supposed to do.
They've totally bought into the new NBA, a lot of threes.
When you make a lot of threes and play at a fast pace,
for the regular season, that's pretty much successful.
But for the postseason, I'm not so sure yet.
I've got to pump my brakes.
But for now, I've got to give credit where it's due.
They're balling.
They're a good young team.
And their style of play fits the regular season.
And they're half game behind the Bucs for second in the East, Rashad.
Are you rolling with the Cavs?
Yeah.
Yeah.
They remind me of OKC.
Kind of like how SAC was last year.
You know what I'm saying?
They're just getting the ball rolling.
They finding their little stride.
JB got them pumping all all cylinders i like their dynamic
when they do got mitchell and garland running together and they got mobley and allen running
together it's good to see wade trying to be like hey love little young k-love out there giving
them some some energy um it's just about now when they go to the east do they play well against the
big the big ballers right and um they show last night they can against the east do they play well against the big the big ballers right and they show last night
They can against the biggest the biggest boss out there. They beat our ass and I think this arc it residents up to you
Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay
You gotta take gotta take our L. I think I'm the biggest boss the big company one
Yeah, they're in from my lot. Yeah, but they ain't go to the finals last year
I mean, hey game lead in the East right now.
Best record in the league.
I'm thinking
he trying to start some shit.
Yeah, I mean,
they ain't the biggest balls
in the East.
I mean, shoot.
Trying to start some shit.
Who your team?
Who your team?
I don't have no team.
Okay, good.
They might pay me.
You see, he giving me
the answers I was giving him.
In court.
Whoever got the check.
Whoever got the check.
I like Cleveland, though.
Yeah, I like Cleveland.
I like Cleveland.
I know Miami Mets were finals last year. Gil, I like Cleveland. I like that. I know Miami
makes the finals last year.
Gil, are you rolling
with the Cavs?
Obviously,
I know your personal
feelings towards
Cleveland, the city.
You had some tough
situations there
throughout your career.
I mean, you know,
I'm starting to really
enjoy the younger teams
in regular season.
You know, we always
get mixed up in,
you know, the stars. You know stars, they sitting too much in this.
Man, these young teams, there's a reason these young teams are thriving because they're playing,
they're playing hard, they're playing together.
When you talk about last year, Memphis and Sac, Timberwolves played, they played decent
last year. This year, you got Cavs, New York Steel.
I mean, shit, Boston's been young for the last six, seven years.
Tatum, 27.
Tatum, yeah, 27.
He's 27.
Sacramento took a dip this year, but...
Tatum only 26. He just turned 26. Jalen Brown's 27. You got, you know, Sacramento took a dip this year, but in their place.
He just turned 26.
Jalen Brown's 27.
Yeah, in their place, you got Timberwolves, right?
So, you know, these young guys are out here just playing hard basketball.
When we say, you know, regular season's pointless, you know,
nah, these young dudes is really coming out here just playing basketball, man.
So, you know,
you got to give credit to, to, to cast because nobody expected them to be where
they were last year, nor this year. Right. And the fact that, you know,
their best player is out. And then before that, um,
the second best player, right? He was out. Yep.
Right?
So, you know, it's not like they've had a full roster this whole time.
So the fact that they've been missing key pieces and haven't really gelled together as a unit
and they're sitting in third is impressive.
I think Garland missed like 19 games.
Yeah, Garland missed 19 games.
Yeah, he was an all-star last year.
You're talking about regular season, right?
But the regular season is not the postseason.
So could the Cavs be a dark horse in the East come playoff time?
I think so.
Like you said, man, the biggest thing is playing hard.
Look at the Miami Heat.
Every year postseason come, they turn it up a notch.
And it's all about playing hard, playing smart, playing together.
And when you do that, you find the teams that just think
that they're supposed to be in there because of the talent,
they get flushed out.
And that's a lot of times in the playoffs.
If you get flushed out, it's because you ain't got the focus, the determination to stay in front of the guys you're supposed to play in front of.
You know, playing to the level of your competition.
And then that's when people come in and outwork you.
And I think that the OKCs, the Saks, the Clevelands York's even Orlando They have four Orlando like Orlando playing hard out there like cuz you overlooked it all they ain't got no real stars like that
And it's like well, they got a leader and they got guys who gonna follow
So if you just go out there and play but play by example, yeah, you got something right?
And then this is like you look at Phoenix how they play
Last night you look at Denver, you got something right and then this is like you look at Phoenix how they play Last night you look at Denver, you know, there's a lot of those teams to play especially like teams like Dallas
They just go out there and think the talent don't do what it's supposed to do
Then they ended up getting getting beat by certain teams
We're gonna talk about the Mavs in a little bit
But like you mentioned the magic Paolo Bancaro in his second season all--Star, Henry Franz Wagner, elevating that team to new heights.
Are y'all rolling with the Cavs in the playoffs?
Is the question.
I think they have a chance
because they have a legitimate closer.
They play a style of play.
They have potentially two, yeah,
because Donovan is a closer.
And then you know Garland,
he ain't scared of the moment either.
And they also have a rim protector,
you know, and Allen, two of them with of the moment either. And they also have a rim protector, you know, in Allen.
Two of them with Mowgli.
So when you got a closer, you have three-point shooting,
and you can protect the rim, that's a pretty successful combination.
Now it's just a matter of can they put it together.
Yep.
Which is, you know, it's yet to see, but I think that they can be a dark horse.
You mentioned Jared Allen in the running right now for defensive player of the year.
I think top three right now, the year. Yes, sir.
I think top three right now, top four.
Yes, sir.
Do you run with the Cavs or do we have another city that we can't pull up to?
No, it all depends on who they play, so no.
Who they got?
Who they got?
Miami.
Oh, no.
So, no.
So, right now, the playoffs, I don't think so.
If they had to stop right now, they'd play Miami first round. No. You don't think so know Amy first right if they stop right now. They play Miami first round. No one thing so no
Miami no, I don't like the way Miami been playing man
No matter how they played before April after April is up
I get it though, but like if they get if Miami if they can if they can I
Mean
Like if they try, I mean everyone be trying to get Philly.
If somehow Miami and Philly can swap,
but Philly right now is the team you want to play in the playoffs first round.
See, my thing with Miami is this.
They haven't changed their look.
We see who they got.
We know what they're going to give us.
They didn't change nothing.
So if you can go into that Miami series as Cleveland, full strength, you can beat them.
Because y'all are a better team.
On paper, talent-wise, they're a better team.
And if y'all play hard, just like they play.
For sure.
Because Mobley and Allen came playing the same game.
What you mean?
Oh, why?
Not at the same time.
Why? Because Love is sitting on the three-point
line. So when Jimmy Butler
is...
Remember, we ain't worried about Jimmy Butler.
The guards are 6-1. He's going to be the best player
on the court. We're not worried.
Donovan Mitchell has to guard him in the post.
He's going to sit in the post.
Jimmy Butler's going to sit in the post. We're not worried
about Jimmy in the post. I worried about Jimmy in the post
Jimmy not really like a post player like that. Oh
What do you mean? What do you think? He's a downhill player
He goes downhill. Uh-huh. You see what he did the holiday in the post. Yeah, but Andrew holiday Yeah, I know before dudes in the world. That's better than Jimmy and playoffs. That's it. I understand that
I'm just saying we've seen this before
Yeah, we know how we know what's coming at us if Jimmy's all they got
That's all they need though. They gonna need more. They got Garland and Mitchell, but they got to play defense against who just
You know, just one guy. That's it. Let me create some who's guarding garland
zero
No, he wrote no he wrote on play no funny, but they're gonna cancel each other
What I'm saying is the the they're gonna cancel each other on a point now Donovan Mitchell has to really stop him with Duncan
Robinson floating with Kevin love floating with BAM. So he's by himself down low scary Terry's
Mobley and Allen both they're not gonna double doubles. They're not gonna be able to play the game. They're double double
That's why you can't stop Jimmy. I started watching what how the fuck does Jimmy keep getting off because they have four people on the perimeter
Right and then they have BAM
So now you even think about coming off BAM BAM gets that that's why BAM gets fucking the 20
You live in the pocket. He lives in the pocket pocket
The only thing you need to do is you need to man up and play defense against Jimmy Butler. That's it.
Man up.
I'm saying it because of the guys
that do it aren't ready to do it.
They're not putting guys that are ready to
accept that challenge.
But who has been able to accept that challenge?
The people that have accepted the challenge aren't good enough.
Got torched. They aren't good enough.
That's why I said,
when they were at eight last year,
and they were at eight,
it was because they were playing against teams
that didn't have the balance to actually go up against them.
And when he did, when they played against Boston...
The best defensive player.
They ended up torching them.
But it wasn't Jimmy who beat them.
But what I'm saying is Jimmy...
But what I'm saying is Jimmy...
Jimmy still torched them.
Bam beat them.
No, what I'm saying is...
Now, why did Bam beat them?
Because they didn't have a bad the band beat them because they didn't
Have a bad hour for because they had no real way. They start trying to send that they got the thing is now
Them is all a them and Jayla had that they had he had that they had that okay not to think about it
Jalen and was today six ten and six nine
They don't who's on their garden Jimmy that's six ten and six nine four on their guard in Jimmy that's 6'10 and 6'9?
For Boston?
No, for Cal.
That's what I'm saying.
Boston had 6'10 and 6'9.
When you're dealing with a team like Miami, you got to give up something, right?
We're going to have to give up something.
In some game, it don't matter.
We're giving up something.
We're going to give up something with Jimmy.
We got to offset that on the backside.
So we got Mobley Allen and Garland
We got a we got a makeup. We got to pick it up. That sounds good
But one thing about Miami they can play any style
If they not hitting three plating is down here now
They not know threes is down late against Boston. No style beat them and competed well against Denver
So I mean any style Miami can be ready for.
I think it's going to be like this.
When Miami match up with whoever, whether it's New York or Cleveland,
it's going to be a dogfight.
They're going to be both of them.
It's going to be a dogfight.
It's going to be a dogfight.
Either one.
Miami?
Miami or New York.
Do they going to sweep through Cleveland?
They're not going to sweep through, but it's four twos on both.
No. hell no.
Seven.
The best player on the court is gonna be Jimmy.
Because the problem is, Jimmy's gonna guard Brunson.
For sure.
They don't have someone that's gonna guard Jimmy.
He's too big for them.
It's easy, like that's what I'm saying, it's easy for Boston because their shooting guard and their small four is 6'10 and 6'9.
So they had to hide over Jimmy. Everybody else, Jimmy's
guarding or that's going to guard Jimmy
or is going to guard Jimmy,
they're too small. It sounds good because
we're saying the name Jimmy Butler.
We're talking about height, 6'8.
His defense. You say his name,
you're like, well, he
ain't been showing up like that on the defensive
end like that. When you go
watch Miami,
if he's guarding Brunson,
everybody's sticking on the screens,
everybody's switching,
there ain't no, I got him no more.
Jimmy used to do that two years ago.
I got him. I'm about to lock him
down. Nah, he didn't.
Because he had to offset that energy to score.
And he knew that. He knew he got multiple defenders though
Come on, you know
So we know if we need Jimmy to stop a certain guy and we need Jimmy to come down here and give us buckets
That's gonna be the thing. We're gonna be shooting guard on
New York
That's gonna dream his energy deep Vincenzo? Yes. Running around?
So that means for the fourth quarter he's just going to be sitting there chilling.
If you're not going to guard Brunson.
And then he's going to guard Brunson with all his energy.
So he's going to have to make a decision because they're running DiVincenzo around.
He's shooting that bitch like clay.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We're going to talk more heat later in the show, but Gil, you asked the chat how much they would pay
to see Gil's Arena live.
I'm not even sure they're gonna say the cheapest one, 40.
Nope. No, you gonna... Oh, yeah, so? Okay.
I know people. No, I just know people.
I just know people.
57% said that they would pay $40 to see Gil's Arena live.
Gil, you have an impact.
You have a lot of motion in the city of L.A.
We're gonna do that plus food and entertainment Steve over there like nope You know, you got to get it backed up. All right, so let's talk a little bit about KD and the Sun. Show us something, Steve.
I ain't got it.
I ain't got it.
I ain't got it.
I ain't got it.
Let's talk about KD and the Sun.
Steve, you want $10,000 and go through there for the one.
You said you would need a dollar, right?
Here you go.
That's crazy.
You got your dollar.
Well, KD.
KD. So, Sun's nearly tricked off a 20-point lead in Denver on Tuesday night without Devin Booker. $100. Well. 80. 80.
So, the Suns nearly tricked off a 20-point lead in Denver on Tuesday night without Devin Booker.
But KD had to remind us why he's one of the best in the world.
So, KD was 14 for 34 in the game.
But did get some buckets like that right there.
Durantula.
Doing his thing.
The Suns at one point had a 20-point lead in the game.
Absolutely cooking the defending champs.
Give him that.
Like I said, KD 14 for 34, but there was a point in the fourth quarter he was 1 for 8,
including five straight missed threes before coming up with this huge 3-4 OT.
He then proceeded to outscore the Nuggets 8-5 in overtime, finishing with 35 points,
eight rebounds,
and 5 assists, as the Suns got the big win in Denver without D-Book.
Slim Reaper.
So despite KD having an off-shooting night, what statement did the Suns make getting the win in Denver without D-Book?
I mean, it just lets you know they have so much firepower going on.
I'm just going to be honest, for the Lakers to make it, we want Suns to play Denver, just
to be honest.
But it kind of lets you know what type of firepower that they're really dealing with
under that hood.
I mean, every time we talk about sons, we never talk about
them as a full unit.
It's always, you know, Devin Booker's killing
and, you know, KD's killing.
There's no Beal. Now it's Beal
and KD. There's no Booker.
And, you know, it seems like
KD's been fucking there the whole year.
You know, doing his damn thing. So, you know,
the fact that they're still in reach and they're still
competing at a high level with, you know, you know, doing his damn thing. So, you know, the fact that they're still in reach and they're still competing at a high level
with, you know, option two, three, one, three,
whatever you want to call it.
You know, they've been out majority of this time
and, you know, they're still, you know, in that hunt.
You know, still dangerous.
You know, you got to give them,
you know, you have to give KD his credit for this.
Oh, man.
Grayson Allen was
eight for eight
going into the fourth,
I believe.
Cooking.
Cooking.
I needed 19
from Bradley Bill.
He only gave me 16.
It's unfortunate
when those type of things happen.
He had 31 the other night,
so I figured that was
going to be a good pick.
I'm not picking him no more.
Michael Porter
was supposed to give me
eight rebounds.
He only gave me seven.
It's just a disappointing night.
You know, last night
I just didn't like it
all the way around.
And then I set it off
in my fourth quarter.
I'm like,
I don't want to watch.
I'm going to wake up
to my thousand dollars
and then find out
they actually won the game.
I didn't think they was
going to win the game.
I thought Denver was
going to ride it out.
But Nurkic ended up doing Found out they actually won the game. I didn't think they was gonna win the game. I thought Denver was gonna ride it out, but
Nerkich ended up doing
What I thought he would do against Joker just kind of hold it down for period of time and
Denver just never cut it on all the way
I think that you you leave KB the opportunity to take over like he did, he going to do that.
So the Suns got a good chance when they get the three-headed monster together to make some noise.
But until then, it's up in the air, man.
I don't trust them.
I don't trust them.
As good as they are, like you said, they got a lot of firepower.
I just don't trust them because it's like, Brad, if could stay healthy they got a chance to win the west but it's like
who's who's out who's who's not like what's wrong with booker what's his injury do we even know
yeah i think it's just like oh it's your turn was his ankle i don't know that's what i'm saying
it's like brad what was your what was yours ankle, wrists. So Book had a right ankle sprain day to day.
Yep.
But like you said, we haven't really seen this team as a whole.
We've seen bits and pieces.
I think they have the potential to be really good.
Obviously, they show last night when you got KD on your team,
you always got a puncher's chance because he can always go crazy
like he did in the fourth in overtime. But I'm like, Sean, I don't trust him until I see him, you know,
because you're not going to just get all three of them together and just walk through a team
that's been playing together all year. That normally, under normal situations, that don't
happen, no matter who those three players are. You know, they have to go through some
type of molding stage to where when they get in situations, alright, what we gonna do? Can't be like, it's your
turn, my turn, your turn, my turn. That normally don't work, you know, in the
finals or in the playoffs against other teams who are in sync with each
other. So I think they have a puncher's chance always, but I think the teams who
have been healthier, who have played together throughout the season will beat them when it counts the most. Like I think in the playoff series, I think the teams who have been healthier, who have played together throughout the season,
will beat them when it counts the most.
I think in the playoff series, I think Denver would handle them.
And that's been an issue, I think, for the Suns all season.
They did have, I think, a 22-point lead in that game.
Ended up tricking it off, have to force overtime.
That's been a consistent thing for them. Because we're relying on jump shooting.
KD and Booker and Beal are all three some of the best jump shooters we have in the league.
But we all know jump shooting is the most inconsistent part of basketball.
You can be on and blow a team out, but you can be off.
And teams like Denver, they run offense.
So their percentages are going to be high almost every night.
For sure.
So, you know.
So, like I said, son's fourth quarter issues but they
are three and oh and overtime this season so how to it's like jack on high they triggered in the
fourth but come come i think we need a traditional point guard at least a backup somebody we talked
about that all season in today's game that's why i look weird to me with bill bill wasn't going for
his buckets because they were playing him differently,
so he was actually facilitating nice.
But it was like when it's time for you to start cooking,
when they started coming back, he still kept that mindset,
oh, I'm just going to run point guard.
I'm going to run the point.
And then that relied on KD to do his thing, but if KD's missing.
That's what I'm saying.
And they're going to need a break.
During the playoffs, you're going to have to sit one or two of them
to give them a breather, so it's's only gonna be one of them in there you
gotta have somebody in there that can create offense or at least organize the offense while
one or two of them is resting and then swap them back out you know at least for five minutes six
minutes because you can't wear them out for three straight series yeah you're gonna play all three
of them 44 minutes for three safe series, year 17 for
KD, year 12, 13 for Bill, almost going on year 10 for Booker.
That's a lot of minutes.
We get three timeouts a quarter.
Plus, we get a timeout in three minutes.
That's a lot.
The nine-minute mark, the six-minute mark, and then the three-minute mark.
We're going to run them to the ground?
Actually, I got six timeouts there.
Frank the Tank got to use them timeouts. I got six timeouts there. Frank the Tank
got to use them timeouts.
I got six timeouts
every 12 minutes.
You're going to run
them to the ground?
I'm like YouTube ass, boy.
I'm like YouTube ass, baby.
Every minute and a half.
Here you go.
Here you go.
Here you go.
Here you go.
Here you go.
Here you go.

Support the movie.
And buy some Agent Zero shoes.
Sold out.
Local Foot Locker,
Foot Action.
Sold out.
Not even,
East Bay can't get it?
Maybe.
Okay.
Get the East Bay.
Some high schools.
East Bay is good.
You just need some more
high schools to sponsor?
Not trying to move up to that Midwest? Yeah, yeah. East Bay, there's nothing better than Get the East Bay. Some high schools. East Bay is good. You just need some more high schools to sponsor? Not trying to move up to that Midwest?
Yeah, yeah.
East Bay, there's nothing better than going through East Bay,
circling a bunch of shit you knew you were not going to buy.
Oh, yeah.
But if I could, I would.
All right, let's talk about some things going on in Texas.
Wimby is the future of the league,
but on Tuesday, Rocket Center, Alperin Shang-Goon showed us
why Wimby may not even be the best big man in the state of Texas.
So, Shangun put up a career-high 45 points along with 16 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 dimes, and a block to boot.
Shangun is the youngest player ever with 45, 15, and 5 steals in the game.
And he also locked up Wimby holding them to 10
points on 40% shooting from the field when we did have 11 rebounds in seven
blocks but he also has six turnovers in the game oh yeah like a large one
they post them as they say okay now take this under, I've calibrated to what you do. Okay, now take this sky hook. Always sweet.
You know, it's called a baptism.
Taking them deep, too, inside, outside.
Mm, however you want it.
So after the game,
Shane Goon talked about cooking the rookie of the year.
Come on, man.
He's so tall, really, he's really tall,
but he's not that strong yet, you know?
So I was going his chest and put him on the under the rim.
So, like I said, they didn't double me tonight that much,
so I work in the under the rim.
He said, get your ass in the lightweight room.
He kept it real.
I mean, he wasn't trying to brag.
They asked him a question.
A 45-piece, you can talk like that.
You know?
Shots to your face.
Yeah, man.
I don't like that shit. I gave it to him, though. Nah, man. I mean, you got to do that. You know. Should I see your face? Yeah, man. I don't like that shit.
I gave it to him, though.
Nah, man.
I mean, you got to do that.
This next game
and the next game,
I don't want to just see
no win before he 5-5.
You got to start
getting numbers now.
He been getting numbers, though.
Get them numbers now.
Don't just get these numbers
on a little young rookie
and think you use
some shit now. Why not? That young rookie and think you use some shit now
Why not that young rookie about to be defensive player? Yeah, but he's a rookie
He's a rookie in the league. Let me see some more shit saying go on to my he's all that. Yeah, man
Nah, man, I'm cool. He's ad man. I'm cool on that man
Man, you know the NBA you It's a rookie, man.
You get all your numbers up.
That's how you get your numbers up.
That's what I'm saying.
I get it.
It looked great.
When we didn't play great, it was his wake-up call.
Everybody gets smacked in the face that one game.
Man, listen.
Stop it.
I mean, no.
Stop what?
Stop it.
You know what's crazy, though?
As somebody who possibly might win the defense player of the year,
low-key, everybody's hitting their career high on him.
Yeah.
Low-key.
Everybody's hitting their career high on him.
As a one-on-one defender, he still needs help.
Sure.
Right?
He still needs help as a one-on-one defender.
Right now, most defensive players, they are help defenders.
But I don't think people actually understand that.
Like, Rudy Gober is a great help defender.
He understands how to protect the paint.
Same thing as Winby.
Same thing as...
Serge Ibaka was that one.
Serge Ibaka, yeah.
Ben Wallace was that.
On the ball, when someone's backing you down and sitting there putting you under the rim and stuff,
your defense usually is questionable.
Well, you think about it, too, though.
He's a rookie.
He ain't never really went through this with top guys who can really score in the post.
So he got to go through the whole season taking his lumps, learning how to guard these guys, right?
So I don't look at it as, oh, man, he's getting killed by these guys. It's like, all right, this is the first time you're playing against this guard these guys, right? So I don't look at it as, oh man, he's getting killed by these
guys. It's like, alright, this is the first time you're playing against
this type of guy, right? So he's going to
give you work. And you're going to figure out like, okay,
this is what he was doing. He hit me with the little
chicken wing. He hit me with the up and under
and now you get used to it. Now
next year, if he's hitting me
with that, I just can't fuck with that dude.
I don't like playing against him. That's how
Paul Gasol was against a lot of guys.
He was weird with his shit down there.
Man, dunking on you
opposite hands and shit. Carlos
Boozer was kind of like that. You just didn't
know how to guard that shit.
But Sanguna, I ain't going to lie.
Because he loved to left.
He loved to left. But you wouldn't
know that if you win, be playing against
Carlos Boozer. You'd be like, he keep going left. But booze You'd be like he keep going left pretty right-handed
But when we played in Europe
Saying goon, that's how they play out there. So it's not his first time seeing that style of play
He just saw it at the highest level. That's what I'm saying at the highest level saying goon is onus out there, sir
He got he got some shit
You got saying goon doing his dainty you like a Jalen Green trying to come to the rim.
It's a little different.
But, you know, it's usually when you think about like great defensive bigs,
they were usually help dudes.
They were great at helping everybody.
Like necessarily like stopping your own man.
Like, you know, Mutombo, he wasn't stopping Shaquille O'Neal and David Robinson and you know um when no high team and Patrick Ewan that I wasn't you know he wasn't
he was more like guys trying to drive let me go ahead you know you try to make a back door oh I
caught that yeah you know I mean so you really have to understand where their defense is great
it's only about two or three I can remember big stack was actually good good. Duncan was good going his guy
One on one Hakeem could guard his guy like one-on-one
KG was good at he could guard his guy like his matchup like one-on-one like she Wallace
She's right in your Martin can you more more? Oh rat lift was good. He would don't know about Theo
He was a monster. Yes, sir
There's a lot of guys that could hold it on but you never would notice because they were just the presence
It was the presence of the big man that helped you stay out the lane
Yeah, even with Kmart like Kmart was a presence down there
He would rather not guard it. He would rather not guard a center because the niggas was bigger than him
But he knew how to hold his own in the post
No, I'm saying but see that's but that's what people like when people say yeah, this this guard is good. Yeah, he's good
He's good
Defender, but it's like sometimes the people back there. They are a jay kid. I came looking at me. I'm not driving
Like I don't feel like I don't feel like in clothesline not today
right and you end up you end up settling and taking jumpers because you don't want to be hit by some of those people down
They're like if we hit Dwayne Wade down here hard and Haslam is sitting there with that eye, I'm not going to drive in until he get out of the game.
So, you know what I mean?
Now I'm just going to be sitting there shooting jumpers and threes the whole time.
So, shit, Damon Jones might look like a great defensive player today because I don't want to go down there.
Exactly.
You know what I mean?
And that ends up happening. defensive player today because I don't want to go down there. Exactly. You know what I mean?
And that ends up happening.
So there's so many factors in the game that nobody talks about or no one sits there and
put into consideration on why things are the way they are.
And you look at Wimby, right?
It's one-on-one, no help.
No help.
You're on an island.
Now, if you think about NBA basketball, in any circumstance, when you're playing one-on-one,
no help against a nigga who got some moves, it's a long night.
It's a long night, right?
Especially if you're not getting the ball back and you can go get your shit.
Man, it's...
If he has some defensive player that's coming down there, digging and helping and doing all this,
it makes his job ten times.
Like, I remember when we were guarding Shaq, I had one job.
Make sure he takes two dribbles.
Yep.
Right?
Please do not allow Shaq.
That's Brendan Hayward.
Just don't let him take one dribble and dunk it.
Right.
You make him dribble twice.
You're like, how the fuck?
I'm not the one guarding him.
He's like, yo, flick at him.
Just dig.
Dig down there.
Yep.
Just dig.
Just make sure he bounces it two times.
Gives me more health. Yep. Then just a one. Boom. And then yep. Just dig. Just make sure he bounces it two times. Gives me more health.
Yep.
Than just a one, boom, and then he dunks it.
Just a live bet.
And you had five, six dribbles on him.
He dribbled me from the free throw line drop down.
It's lunch meat.
Like, if you allow Shaq and them and Tim Duncan to dribble six times,
you, as a big man, you did your job.
For sure.
You did your job if you allowed them to take five, six dribbles.
Lunch meet.
Like, Wimby was lunch meet this game.
Oh, yeah. But that's team
right there. You allowed a second goal in a dribble
five, six times before you helped Wimby.
Like,
in the older days,
that's crazy, right? The older days,
a coach
would have cussed you out. He can just dribble around like the big man like no
But I'm like pop are you sleep on the sideline or something?
He expect it's hard, but those shots he was making them look easy. Those are tough shots. Just got a report
Those are tough. He's gonna dribble that bitch left and right.
He's going to go right shoulder, left shoulder.
He got both of them.
Listen, we need to go.
Yeah, but that's a big...
That's like two dribbles max.
But that's guard play.
Yo, I'm helping y'all like crazy.
Where's the return?
That's what I'm saying.
For the coach to sit over there for the whole four quarters,
he got 45 points,
and we ain't went down there and helped young fella.
He a young fella.
Zach Collins, okay, we get it.
Zach, you not supposed to be taking this kind of abuse.
You've been in this league long enough.
You know.
Push him off his spot, make him turn and shoot the jumper.
Cool.
Everybody else, look, Wimby down there, he is lunch meat down there.
That's players.
That's players.
Help.
You should naturally just know. You ain't got to tell you ain't got to show drew holiday to come and dig
We talk about the same motherfuckers only one throw the ball throw the water bottle
I said, but that's the same of a baby won't even throw the ball
Like that's why I say he's defensive player of the year because he has no other defenders down there to help him defend
He's just doing it by himself.
They're a top three rated defensive team when he's on the floor.
When he's off the floor, they're the last defense in the league.
So it's just him.
So from barbecue to boo-boo.
Talk about another team in Texas.
You know.
If y'all listen closely, I do drop some gems occasionally.
Luka Doncic, third player in NBA history to have four straight 30-point triple doubles.
Damn.
First since Russell Westbrook in 2017.
Second is Russell Westbrook in 2018.
What?
In 2019.
13, Russell Westbrook again.
All three.
Four years in a row.
No, four straight 30-point triple doubles.
No, I'm just saying, you said that's the fourth player?
Fourth player.
So Russell Westbrook is the first three players?
Oscar Robertson. Oh, he went okay
Luca Westbrook Oscar Robertson, okay to have four straight 30-point triple-doubles
first since Russell Westbrook in 27
During that span Lucas average of 36 36 points, 12 assists, 11 rebounds.
Only problem, Mavs
lost five of their last six games, including
a loss to the Pacers Tuesday night.
They've been dead last in league defense
during that six-game stretch.
And they're only a game ahead of the Warriors
for the 10th seed. So after the loss
to the Pacers last night, when asked
what specifically he can do to
improve on the defensive side Lucas
No, I did I say Westbrook. I said Westbrook
Not for real cuz he you pull up on you now
No, I when I said it sounded like it came out like tonight was I was Westbrook
Russell
Like no I said Westbrook, you know, we got love for you on this show
So like I said only problem with withuka during the stretch is McCook on offense,
but the Mavs have lost five of their last six games.
Worst defense in the league during that six-game stretch.
Only a game ahead of the Warriors for the 10th seed.
So after the loss, when asked specifically what he can do to improve on the defensive side,
Luka simply said, play better defense.
Which echoes your sentiments last week. Niggas gotta play defense.
So J-Kid also talked about the Mavs defensive struggles this season.
Does Luka need to be better defensively?
We all do. We all do. It's, you know, when you look at leaning on Luka offensively, which
we do, and he delivers, we have to be able to cover him and and
cover not just Luca but cover Kai and the other three that are out there have
to protect each other it's not just one-on-one the players are too good in
this league to just play one-on-one we have to do as a group a team defense we
have to guard the ball better we have to help each other and then we have to do as a group, a team defense, we have to guard the ball better, we have
to help each other, and we have to finish the play by rebounding.
And we can do this.
It's just being, you know, we show the signs of it.
We just have to be, you know, on the unknown.
We can't just give up the threes.
We have to be consistent, and we're not being consistent right now.
As you gentlemen know, the Internet has no chill, much like the namesake of Gil Zarina
presented by Underdog Fantasy, Woof Woof.
Luka has developed the nickname, despite the loss, Donchik, because every time they say
his stats, despite the loss, Luka had bam, bam, and bam.
Mavs currently have the 23rd ranked defense in the league.
So Gil, you know a lot about offense and a lot about not playing defense.
With everything that Luka brings.
Gil, you said it yourself.
That's the only thing. I said it myself.
So I'm just quoting Gilbert Arena.
I just want people to say, you don't play no defense.
Who's saying it though? Me.
I'm pushing my own narrative.
Self-deprecating.
Think about
the guards that I've played against.
I didn't have to play no defense.
Eric Snow.
Damien Jones.
Oh, no.
Yet another appearance on Gilderoy.
I mean, it was just.
He stayed on straights.
No, I'm just trying to.
He's Snow, man.
No, it's not.
What I'm saying is think of Derrick Fisher, Brian Shaw.
Those are the guards I had to guard.
I don't have to.
If they scored 10
That was amazing game. So my defensive rate wouldn't be high cuz what they averaged 12. I hold him to 9
Do your streak of mentioning Eric's
But think about the people I had to guard it wasn't really
It wasn't really anybody. I didn't have to guard this type of era someone going for 30. Like even like somebody
like Steve
Francis and Mulberry. They averaged
19 best. Like
they scored 18 points. Like
this was what, this wasn't a group that was
averaging 30 something. This is your 6th
show mentioning Eric Snow.
Yeah.
Go on. Go on. Name who you want to think you by the name
in that era.
Chauncey, Steve.
How much did Chauncey have, 17?
Steve Francis, 15, 14?
No, Steve Nash.
What do you have, 17?
Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson.
13, I'd have to go, Allen was a two.
Yeah, but-
See, that's what I'm saying.
Did you have to go with Baron Davis?
Baron Davis, 16, 17.
Those guys-
Gary Payton.
Who?
Old Gary. 10? Did you go you are young no Tony Park Tony Parker 18
points is 19 is the highest yeah what I'm saying think about the averages I'm
saying now you right though it the last he was garden what I said the guys that
I'm guarding their maxes so their max is 20 so were you what so you're a good
defender they go no what I'm saying is I didn't even I use this guy what I'm saying is my usage
So if they average 19
Yeah, and they scored 17
Then you locked him up. They still a minor because he's going to
Point you can say you locked him right so I'm not guarding
So but in today's game right if I'm guarding step and step averages 31 and he scored 29 on me
And I oh shit. He can't play no defense
But I don't think it's about the point production
more than it is tough night.
If you're shooting 36% while I'm guarding you,
I'm playing good defense on you,
even if you end up with 40.
I know that you had a tough night tonight.
You got free throws.
You got a couple threes.
You did what you're supposed to do to get your points, but it was a hard night tonight.
But that's what I'm saying.
Who was that hard night for me?
You know, Smush Parkers, you know.
Another Smush.
Steve, Steve Blakes.
Those are my matchups.
Kurt Heimlich.
Yeah, Kurt Heimlich.
So, for the most part, I'm in help mode the whole time.
My guy is the one we're coming off of.
I get it. But now they have issues.
Dallas Jameer Nelson to they starting to guys.
So you think you see what I'm saying? Like, so I'm in help. I'm in help. So I'm telly
tell affair. So I'm helping on you and helping on wasn't it? So if he has three threes, right?
I'm the bad boy. Randy Floyd.
Yeah, I didn't have no.
That's what I said.
It's Mike James.
So Mike James and Mike Bibby was the biggest.
Bobby Jackson.
Didn't even.
Yeah.
Man.
So I had to hold the wrong.
Oh, I had an easy night at the workplace.
So let's get back to Luca.
Now you see why.
In the Mavs' defensive struggles,
with everything that Luka brings offensively,
does he need to worry about being a good defender?
Is that his problem?
Yes.
Yes.
Surround him with that defense.
No, no.
No, I'm just saying.
Because, look, I told y'all, it's Luka, Ant-Man, and Boston, right?
But now, like, while I'm watching him,
like, I'm starting to pull away from him.
Because he literally just let niggas walk right by him.
And it's like, ole.
And that's the effort thing to me.
Like, if you gave me effort and you got fouls, one thing, right?
That's just showing that you need to play smarter defense.
Right.
But if you're giving effort and you contesting shots at least, making it
tough, not fouling,
if they scoring, they scoring.
We're going to live with the fact that you
just giving effort, but if you're not giving no effort
and you coming down on this end and you
giving me all the effort,
that's the difference between championship basketball
and just out here playing for numbers.
And that's what I'm looking at.
I'm like, is he really out here playing for numbers?
Or what you doing, bro?
Because you're not giving me the same energy on the other end.
And the other all-time great perimeter players,
a lot of them play both ends to some degree.
I mean, if you just think about the top scorers and top wing players,
they all competed defensively.
Some were all-time greats, a la Mike and Colt, you know, but D-Wade,
you know, guys like that.
But, like, then you have other guys that will put effort in.
They didn't have to be great defenders, but they wasn't like an ole.
They have to cover for Luka, like, almost pre-rotate, which is scary.
And then you also got Kai out there who they covering for.
Like, you got two guys that you have to over-cover for,
not even, like, hold your own.
So that's kind of scary.
And then you start comparing Luka to some of the other all-time greats
with the numbers, and you're like, hold up, you got to watch the game, bro.
You got to watch the game.
He's scoring and doing a lot of things, great numbers, and he great,
but the separation is, man, he not guarding out of the end.
At all.
I mean, even Kawhi Leonard, who's an all-time great wing.
I mean, Paul George, like, come on, man.
Just give a little bit of effort defensively.
Gil, you were kicking as...
I'm just laughing, because, I mean...
How you say he don't play defensively?
He not even guarding the other team's best player, and they still say he don't play defensively.
He can't.
And they still physically can't.
You know what I'm saying? But physically can't. But when you guard...
He better go the Euro route.
He's going to go the Euro route.
Mike Fanny, though.
When you guard the other teams...
Go ahead.
Like you said,
you ain't guarding a high-usage guy,
so you should be able to help him do stuff.
He's not guarding a high-usage guy
and people still saying, like,
he ain't playing no D.
That's crazy, Gil.
Okay. He's just gone and people still saying like okay. He ain't playing no deal. That's crazy. Yeah Okay
physically in his position
Who can he actually guard even if he tried who let's just be honest
He's a 6'9
Slow no fast twitch muscles whatsoever can barely dunk the ball for his size
Smarts yeah, but on a foot race if we decide to go one-on-one
Who can he stop at the one or the two? Let's just be on very bird can stop
very
Played hard. No, let yeah steals, but it's a pace now. We're not talking about we're not talking about in the
We're talking about today with all our pack with up with the pack of course
Oh, if you had to know that defense is easy if you just try right now
He ain't nobody he can write nobody more right now right now today
Right right right now today
Your life depend on it
one-on-one
Would you rather go against?
Luca the score on
or Or...
Give me somebody else that's worse.
An American. Or... Or Kyrie.
Who would you go against right now to score? This is your life depending on it.
I'm scoring on Luca, bro. Easy.
Who would I rather go?
Who would you rather go against?
I mean, no. Ky Kyrie because he's smaller
Mouse in the house
That's I mean that makes sense for him right there for me
Too slow. So if every guard if he's the slowest in his position, he's the slowest in his position
He's a tallest position right lateral movement. He's he's number he's last right he's no dear he's like um
kyle anderson in a sense right he's that that type of dude right
what's wrong with kyle slow he just moves slow but kyle plays deep but his name is slow mo that's
what i'm saying at least he owns what if you were kyle at the point guard and he has to he's coming
downhill i'm just saying he's just physically not the dude that can play defense.
But he's not guarding the point guards.
That's what he's saying.
Who the fuck is the guard?
He's guarding the worst player on the floor.
The lowest usage offensive player on other teams?
He has to.
And still being called a bad defender?
He can't even keep up.
That's the bad part.
He's guarding the worst possible person.
Chef Aloysia.
He's guarding Chef Aloysia in the corner,
and Chef Aloysia's getting back doors.
Chef Aloysia's a nice dog.
Because he went back door because he was smart.
He knew how to play basketball.
I think it's an effort and an accountability thing.
I think if they actually start holding him accountable
and him putting the effort to do it.
You know what the funny part is?
I said it, everybody got mad. Now they know that you said some truth into it. You know the funny part is, I said it and everybody got mad.
Now they know that you said it,
there's some truth to it.
We can say,
even though I was just trolling in the sense that
you guys want more defense,
get rid of these players, but I'm saying
you're going to get rid of their offense too.
And their offense is way,
I would take their offense over their defense
any day. The reason I say that is because their office brings in more money brings in
views it expands the game so I will say I will look I will look past the defense
for their offense but this is what I was saying if you remove the bigs because
that's been dominating for the last 30 years that the euro big the international big man has been a Stella for the NBA they are a lot the the
international big man is technically the most important big since the 90s bigs
right where euro where the international player has been lacking offensively and
defensively is one two and three they don't know they don't exist you take Luca out of the picture at six nine
You can't name me
Four other players that you will say these gonna be nice at the shooting guard at the small four
We're at the point guard position. It doesn't exist
Right now we start not at the superstar level there. It doesn't exist. Not at the superstar level. Not at the superstar level.
They're okay.
You got the serviceable.
There is the serviceable.
Like the Bogdanovans.
The Bogdanovans.
Both Bogdanovans.
Both of them, yeah.
Both the Bogdanovans.
So, you know, so.
Who?
Fournier.
Fournier is okay.
Yeah.
From Detroit.
Yeah, that's what I said.
He's okay.
So, you know, so they're still lacking in the two, three,
because those two positions right now are still fast twitch muscles and athleticism.
Right?
So it's still behind.
The big men, they're elite.
The 5-man and the 4-man because they're coming in 6'10", 7-something with the skill that the American bigs just doesn't have.
This is what I see.
The anticipation that you have as an offensive player to go here, go here,
to do this move, step back.
This is the same anticipation on the defensive end
where you can jump in front of somebody
just to get them to go to their counter.
If you get in straight line drives,
you're not telling me you're
anticipating a move.
You're not locked in. You're not locked. You literally have already clocked and move not locked in you not like you literally have already
Clocked out because you know what you got to do on the other end
I gotta say this energy and that's what I was that's what me and Cheryl was saying
Saving energy for that dough. It's no no when you're when you're slow offensively, it's easier to
trick When you're slow offensively, it's easier to trick athleticism.
But he's not slow offensively.
Boom, boom.
He's not.
He plays slow.
I was about to say, he's not slow.
He plays slow.
He makes quick moves.
He do.
He makes quick moves.
He hits you with a quick one, and then, oh, head fake real quick.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say, because athleticism want to jump.
His pivots is very quick.
And just to stay in front of somebody as they're driving, it don't take a lot of effort.
You can stay on somebody's hip, ride them to the basket.
And that's what MJ used to teach us at Jordan Camp.
We used to play the pickup games.
He'd say, listen, cut the court off in three areas.
You got the sideline.
You got the top.
You got the side.
Push them to the baseline.
Push them to the corner of the backboard.
This is where your help going to come from. If you do your job, your defense has to do their job on the backside. That's
help defense. But if you just straight line drive, there ain't no backboard no more. It's
straight to the... That's how you play.
Straight to the...
If we let Gil get by us, it was dead neat. Our bigs was going to be mad because he diving
and fooming Every time.
But remember I said, I said that the, the, the guy, when you have a package, right?
When you have this elite package, the worst person you want to try to use it on is somebody who don't play exactly.
Right?
You know what I mean?
So like, like if he had to guard Jordan Poole, it'd be easier for him.
Right?
Because Jordan Poole's going to do so many moves.
He's going to shake him, then come back.
Oh, hey, how you doing?
Oh, shit, hey.
Nice challenge, Luca.
Right?
You done did so many moves.
It made it look like he could play defense.
Trying to guard De'Aaron Fox and players like that who's just going to straight line him.
He's like, yo, Deo, can you stay in front of this dude?
He said, let me guard the dude that got all the tricks.
But the scouting report, too, though, Gil.
The scouting report, we're saying catch and go.
Luka, catch and go.
He ain't guarding the motherfucking stop sign.
Go.
As soon as you catch it.
Now, if he is anticipating that catch and go, now we got enough time for our other defense to step up and help you.
You're not giving us good enough time to even help you because they gone.
But the offensive player is smart enough to understand that.
He can't guard me off the one or two dribbles, so I'm going to go.
The only thing he can really do when you're slower, try to back up, but the guys can shoot now.
Right.
You know what I mean?
So that's why I said it's really just a disadvantage because back in the day, but he's not you can't shoot
I'm gonna just sit back here and let you I'm gonna take up your speed by doing this now these guys can shoot
So now I got to try to guard you a little bit. They're gonna blow by me
So I'm gonna take his I'm just be honest as a coach
I'm gonna take his
33 I'm just be honest as a coach I'm gonna take his 33
He's lamb and his 10 and hopefully his offense can over can over
Right. He right now. It's not I'm good. I'm saying if I'm giving up if I'm if he's if he's putting
53 53 points or one per game on to the thing and he's giving up 30 to 40
I'm fine with that. What do we do when we was in I'm fine with that Kai to didn't hear the thing God
But that's what I'm saying. He could just like the only kids say they covering for both of them
Yeah, I gotta think about it when we was playing coming up. We had the defensive slide drill
Well, you had to get the fuck everybody had to do everybody had to be down in a defensive stance
step right step left get the fuck down. Everybody had to do it. Everybody had to get down in a defensive stance. Step right,
step left, step back,
contest, rebound,
turn and go. That was a drill.
It don't look like nobody down in a defensive stance no more when you
guarding the ball. Everybody's either
contesting the shot or anticipating the shot
or they backing up. So it's
like, where is the... Man, they got
that dumbass drill still man
They not slide slide run slide slide it got it
And I taking pride in it no more
They got where we like you had to go if I go out there and I got a guard Gil and I know I got
To get down and guard and get into the ball. I got to get into the ball now
I know what Gil want to do. He want to go Bobby. Yep. He wants to go back
So the moment I push up on him, he's like, oh, yeah, that's what I want.
Right?
So I got to give him enough cushion where he got to think about, okay, just go by him.
I got to hit him with something.
Yep.
That's what I want.
I want you to change your mind.
Hit me with something.
Go to your counter.
Some indecisiveness.
Something.
For half a second to allow the defense to shift.
It's only 14 seconds on the clock.
14 seconds on the clock.
14.
So give me some time to get some help.
I got your help. Now, if I got a good team,
I got your help on the left. Left. Bring them
left. Bring them over here. Bring them over here. I got you.
And you can be a slow defender and be like this.
Just be wide. And the offense says, yeah,
go help. Go help. I dare you.
We talking. We all talking. I dare you.
You ain't hit one all night.
You're the 4-5 for me looking for.
We ain't hit nothing. If you hit tonight, dare you to leave. You ain't hit one all night. I dare you to leave. You ain't hit one all night. You the four or five feet looking for.
Yeah, we ain't hit nothing.
If you hit tonight, we deserve to lose.
Yeah, you got it all night.
Grayson Allen like, go again.
I'm already five for five.
Do it again.
Five for five.
You ain't going to smell it.
Do it again.
Hey, you'll be by yourself.
You'll be by yourself.
Grayson ain't going to smell it tonight.
Yeah, but everybody ain't got no Grayson Allen.
Yeah.
Everybody ain't got...
But think about this.
That's Grayson Allen, though.
You're talking about the weakest dude on the court is the best shooter on the court. For got it. But think about this. That's Grayson Allen, though.
You're talking about the weakest dude on the court is the best shooter on the court.
For that team.
For that team.
The best shooter, the worst shooter on OKC is Chet.
No, Malik Beasley and Grayson Allen has came up big this year when it comes to shooting.
Because they realize that this is going to keep me on the court at all times. I have to be the best shooter.
This is where Prince, or for my team, Prince and Vando need to go into the summer and realize that.
Realize this one thing.
Hit that corner three, man.
The one thing you want to be in today's game is the best shooter to a star.
As long as there's a star,
that star needs a shooter
so you cannot leave.
I'm telling you,
P.J. took me a whole career out of it.
Yeah, sitting in the corner just...
Just waiting, waiting to go.
And that's why I'm kind of frustrated now
with like, yo, go back to what you...
Go back to like...
Like, you got to take your two 3-3s again, man.
Like, go back to taking your 3-3s, sitting in the corner when they know where you are. Now you don't take your two, three, threes again, man. Go back to taking your three, three, threes, sit in the corner when they know where you
are.
Now you don't want to shoot.
There's no need for you now.
But that's the thing against a nigga like Luka and them, they give opportunities to
Grayson Allens, Malik Beasleys, guys who going to be designated in the game.
They getting shots because you letting these motherfuckers just go straight by you.
Hey man, now we got all rotating, we got a switch and all this other dumbass shit place my fucking defense look at the end of the day
That might be why he can't get strong consideration for MVP because of that he is dropping in the MVP race
So they made the trade for Kyrie last shit, but
But what's the name is Shay Shay up there no shape lazy. Yeah, I mean who's number one say in Joker Joker
Play no defense though Joker, but he got a good deep. He's gonna help side defense
He's slow, but he know how to be in position
Their team they're on the day on the screen
blocks and deflections
He deflects very well.
He plays position basketball.
Yeah, position basketball.
Yeah, he plays position basketball.
So made the trade for Kyrie last year, right?
Did not make the playoffs.
Re-signed Kyrie.
So you know you had this issue coming in the season with these two guards
and the defensive issues.
So why are they still struggling to compete?
Because they don't play defense.
Okay, but why?
Somebody's going to have to be held accountable. Jason Kidd. No. Is it him or is it the players? Because they don't play defense. Okay, but why? Somebody's got to be held accountable.
Jason Kidd.
Who's?
Is it him or is it the players?
He ain't picking a team.
He ain't picking a team.
He's a roster, though.
He's not a defensive-minded coach.
He was a defensive player.
First-team defense.
He was elite defense.
He was a defensive-minded player.
He's not a defensive-minded player. He's not a defensive-minded coach.
Says who?
Says his record and his defensive rating.
For the last, what, three years he's been in Dallas?
They've been terrible.
They're the players.
What are you teaching them defensively that they're not getting?
J.B. Bickerstaff was not a player.
They got one of the best defenses.
OKC.
They coached and never played.
They got one of the best defenses.
Why do they got good defense?
Okay, hold on.
And Dallas don't.
Okay, so if they make a trade and Draymond Green gets there,
Drew Holiday gets there.
And just them two.
They become a better defensive team, right?
No.
Why not?
Because they're still going to be playing the same defensive strategies.
They're still going to be doing the same concepts.
Says who?
Says the coach.
You have two defensive players on there now that helps the defense.
That helps them individually.
They're going to pick up the flag individually.
You add AD on there.
That's three players now that's just defensive-minded.
That cleans up everything.
It don't necessarily, especially if your principles on defense is not to the liken of how they play defense.
You think it's a philosophy thing? It's definitely a philosophy thing.
You think so?
No, 100%.
If you don't hold the niggas accountable, they go into a zone a lot.
Just because they don't want to play defense one-on-one.
It's because they don't want to or they can't.
Can't.
Which one is it?
This year, we're going to definitely have an answer.
Last year, we've seen it too.
Last year, they couldn't guard a goddamn chair.
So now it's like, what are you doing?
What's your principles?
Do you have schemes?
What you think?
Are you just relying on one-on-one defense?
Is it because they can't?
What I'm saying is you're questioning a guy whose whole life was defense.
So his principle is defense.
That's his principle.
Remember what you said about New Jersey?
If he don't have the player.
Who did he have back there? Kenyon and all in okay so I can I can I can
I can individually individually no one was going past Jake he had the quickest
hands in the game quickest hands quickest feet not that was our defensive
did it did Jason kid make I don't know but we can only say he's only can only
say that Jason key was very
Team if we liked him or not you say oh, yeah, Jake here cuz you yeah, I watch him he played even tonight
Are you like Jake he picked up full court?
He was about to say before he got think about it
If I'm the second I'm I was the one of the tallest and strongest in the position
The only nigga who out strong me and was taller was him everybody else was lunch me he was the only one that keep me out
of kept me out of life a kid was not being sent and sick sick on other people
like sick him yeah he was no he wasn't he had to guard Kobe he wasn't being hey
JK we need you to go no no no no no yeah he was he guarded everybody no way no
way that wasn't his reputation.
J.K. was a passer.
J.K. nine times all defense.
Yes.
He was a passer.
Nine times all defense.
He's a passer.
In what era, too?
Yeah.
He's a triple-double threat.
But why is it not translating?
Because they don't have the players. Sometimes players don't translate.
You know, sometimes...
Is it the coaching? So is it the coaching?
I don't know
He's not you got a point guard it don't look at the defense so who picked did he play these before you got him point guards
Don't play no fuck. Did he pick he picked those players you got him in about who you pick nigga
You got him teach him something. I'm gonna teach ain't done their whole life. I'm a teacher.
That's why you've got the coach.
That's like him trying to teach people how to pass the ball.
If he can't pass, he can't pass.
I can teach you how to see.
I can teach you how to see.
Open your eyes.
See this.
Hey, running down fast breaks.
Look at this.
You looking over there.
Look this way.
You ain't even seeing it.
He right there.
This is what I used to see.
See what I see. Hey, look. look defensively see when I'm guarding the top
push over the top of the screen
Stay connected to the ball handler. I'm over top as the players man layers the players I have hold a song Good fuck. Yeah, you get a my coach to be Jason kid. Oh
Steve Nash John Stockton.
It could be the one, two, and three.
I know one thing they ain't going to have me doing, passing that rock.
They're all great assist guys.
They're great assist guys.
I remember when Coach Eddie, Coach Jason Kidd, he coached Mike Babynim,
and when I had the offense, I don't do that.
That's not what I do.
This offense has got to be tweaked for me. This is what I do.
So unless you're going to
replace me and we're going to swap it out,
you have to create the offense
that I know how to play.
So Eddie's offense
had to be tweaked for the guys he has today.
That's just how it is.
He don't have guys that are
locked down defenders like he was.
So it's now he's trying to...
But Luka's got to have an attitude where I've got to be solid on defense at least.
He has to.
If he wants to win.
All the greats had to sacrifice.
Last question for you guys on this topic.
So Luka, the star player of this team, did not make the playoffs last season.
Right now they're in the A spot.
Like I said, they're...
They won't make that shit this year either.
So let's look forward to future
How much how much blame does Luca deserve for the Mavs not being able to get it done this year?
And if they do not make the playoffs and back-to-back seasons
We got a whole what do you expect to happen to them accountable the way we hold the other greats accountable?
He ain't no great yet. What?
What I'm hearing out here in these streets, you know great not gonna blame the players. No
For if you're not going to hold them accountable,
who are you going to hold?
The people who's the coach.
No, the people who...
There's two people
that don't make no decisions
on the people that come there.
The player or the coach.
That's the whole point of basketball.
You got the hand
and you were dealt.
Here, we're playing poker.
You get one chance to trade out your hand. If he don't make it to the playoff this year,
we're going to have to kind of lower him on the totem pole.
But Lucas said he's been vocal about personnel decisions.
He's starting to get more vocal as the leader.
Like, sorry, a guy who just turned 25 less than two weeks ago,
you're telling him he know what it is the win
He been he don't know who 16. Yeah, but he know I don't want to hear all them fucking excuses
They can you know how to play defense play?
Defense over there, you know, you didn't play D. No, we didn't you had to you did he just know why he had a love style
Of play that they have they played with over there
But you had to play D.
Euro League champion, Euro League MVP before coming to the league.
Was he a Euro League defensive player of the year?
No, they team was like that, though.
Their team played team defense.
Yeah, hey, go A.
So now he know he don't have to do that no more.
Because ain't nobody going to say nothing if I don't play no defense.
Nah, you're up there to take him out.
Out?
Yeah.
But we are in the beautiful nation, the United States of America.
Hold him accountable.
His team, man.
Like, you...
Y'all are...
Like, think about it, man.
He at home during the draft.
He over where he's at during the draft.
And those are the people they picking.
Luka, what do you think about this?
I don't fucking know.
I just...
The fuck do I...
I didn't watch this.
Like, tell me, how many times have you
gone into the draft and you knew who we was picking?
If you're a student of the game,
you're supposed to.
You're supposed to.
Especially if you care about the organization
and the team.
He's 24.
100%.
The top players is looking like,
hey, who we got?
Who the fuck is this?
Why y'all pick him? Why y'all ain't pick him? 100% the top players is looking like hey who we got who who the fuck is this? Yeah
Why y'all pick him why y'all ain't pick him after this and you're the guy why you say it was again Congress Why did you pick him you that means you already picked them? That means he already on your team
Sorry, motherfucker. Are you on your team too late too late?
Right. You think you didn't call me pick the players that he wanted on that team don't do it I don't matter it do Hoopers so get the team that you got with the players you got and what have you
accountability like they last
accountability last place new be no playoff because this is the group they got you gonna play defense or not bro
We're gonna leave by example or not. Let me tell you how sorry teams are if your best player is averaging
35 34
33 that lets you know how good the rest of your team is if they got an average like people don't take that in
Consideration when you're averaging when you got a player that's averaging 36 35 34
How good is the rest of the players that he can't even delegate to them when
kobe was averaging 35 how did that team look when he won those two championships how much did he
average then when he got paul gasol and all him what does his average look like then because he
had better players around him so he don't have to average 35 or 36 points a game so the fact that
lucas played defense so the fact that luc... Still play defense. So the fact that Lucas averaging 34,
it lets you know what he really has on the roster.
Colt was still playing defense.
Win.
It would never be an excuse.
It was never an excuse for Colt.
Yeah, his defense was great when I gave his ass 60.
I'm not going to play no defense.
That defense was amazing.
It was just like Sangoon's 45.
And he made all teams.
It was just like Sangoon's 45.
One time.
That was one time.
One time in history.
One time in history.
Sangoon?
No, the 60.
One time.
All right.
On Kobe.
One time.
You can say he played defense bad one time,
but that nigga showed up every night.
And then he wanted to guard your ass because you was hot,
and he knew how dangerous
you was. That's what we talk about.
We're not talking about the excuse.
You're not going to shut everybody down.
Okay, so I'm going to take the 60 out.
Yeah, 45 another time.
Let me take the 60 out.
And then my average against him, 33 points.
Okay, that's great. Without the 60?
And that's still just one guy, right?
We're not talking about the whole league
We're not talking about regular niggas like me going by Luka every fuck. I'm a
Lunch me come here Luka. I'm about to I'm gonna have 30 tonight cuz it's Luka I'm not doing that against cold like come over night. Come on over here. It's a long night. Gil, you're LeBron James.
Come on over here.
It's a long night.
But that's the difference.
I knew this thing.
This was my understanding of defense, right?
Whoever the best defensive player is on a team, I want him.
The reason I want him is the best defensive player has no help most times most
times the weakest defensive player what always have to always has to have help so if i'm gonna
go against the worst defensive player everyone's in position to help him no one's ever in position to help him. No one's ever in position to help the best player.
So, therefore, once I get past the best player, no one's ready to help.
So, I'm going to go at Klay, not Curry.
Because if I'm going at Curry, Draymond, Klay is ready to help.
If I have Klay, nobody's in position to help. But that's what good defensive teams do.
They don't send the best defender at you.
They send the subpar guy on you, and they let the lurker, the mic back, the middle guy.
Hey, listen, we got your help, bro.
We know it's going to be a long night, but listen, make everything tough.
And once he get past you, our second line of defense is going to be there every time.
In the fourth quarter, you put the best guy on that
I wore you down. I want the bet. I that's why I said I don't want rip Hamilton. I'm gonna just go at Chauncey
But we're not the because I can't figure this because the defense is not designed to help
Chauncey bill of the defense the team defense is designed to help
Others rip, but we got Tayshaun.
Tayshaun, when he gets real tough, when he gets tough, but for y'all,
we send Tayshaun out there and we say,
hey, Rasheed
and Ben, you help Tay
as much as you can. They're not going to help Tay.
But they will if they have to.
They're going to go get some 3 and D
defenders.
First of all, they had a power four that was 6- six for let's just be honest used to like you want if you want if you want
To help Luca on defense. You need to start getting the back line and look like seven five seven three seven two
They've been trying to get your rolls back there. They got Matt Kleber and
We're just saying God God when unicorn was back there. it didn't look like his defense was that bad, right?
It was.
Unicorn would clean some stuff up.
But they had him stretched out.
Because remember, back then, he was the only five.
And they was pushing him out.
I don't know.
It wasn't this bad.
No, Luka's defense didn't look that bad when he had him.
And who else was back there?
Chalice Chester was back there.
Nobody questioned his defense.
That was the old Tyson.
I know, but his defense wasn't questioned out.
Yeah.
His team is so small.
It wasn't as low as Josiah just read.
That defense wasn't that low right now.
Well, think about it, too.
It was his first two years in the league.
He was still actually trying to prove that he could play in the league.
So he was actually playing some defense a little bit.
Now he's gotten comfortable. Who? Very comfortable very cool Luca. He's got him very I look at I look at when I look at defense man
It ain't about a player. It's about what what does the team defense look like are you even capable?
That's what you said oh, no kid. No I'm talking about the you and the people on the court
What is the people on the court of your beam back line is 6'4", 6'5", you're not stopping me.
Like, if I'm going down the lane and I'm looking at...
Tallest guy, 6'6".
Yeah, 6'6".
What do you do when I'm jumping?
I learned that from...
You know who made me learn?
LeBron James made me learn that in the playoffs.
But that's not their line.
Right, LeBron James made me learn that in the playoffs and after the series.
When I'm looking back at tape and I'm like, how the fuck did they beat us? But that's not their line-up. Right, LeBron James made me learn that in the playoffs and after the series.
When I'm looking back at tape and I'm like, how the fuck did they beat us?
And game one, like, what I learned was this.
When LeBron wanted to come in the lane, he gave his coach that look.
Sub, they sub out, El Gauscus.
And y'all sub out. And we sub out our big man.
Now LeBron James is the biggest dude on the court.
And him and Larry Hughes is hitting that rim.
Because when they jump, Michael Ruffin back there, 6'8", 6'7",
he ain't big enough to guard them.
And I realized that was going on, that he wanted us to remove all the bigs
so he can come in there and he's the biggest dude in the game.
The sub was Varejao.
No, Varejao was the four.
He subbed in for Elgas Vareja, no, Vareja was the four he subbed in for a Galskus
No, no sometimes and then but we said when Vareja went out we put in Michael Ruffin and we got smaller
And I was like and then he just coming in there at Willie. Nobody can block his shot like that Let's get taller does he to get taller taller more athletic defenders. They think offensively Mark Cuban is thinking too offensively all the time
Mark Cuban he's thinking too often. That's cuz Lucas good for business
Lucas Lucas great for business. We will see how the man play out. We're gonna die
Let's take it 53. Let's keep this moving to the East Coast Lucas our plan is to get that four-file. You'll be like this. For sure. Stop, stop, stop.
That ain't what we paying you for.
We ain't paying you to play no defense.
Moving to the East Coast, Jimmy Butler
has made it clear that his approach to the game
shifts as the season goes on.
During a recent interview with Chris Haynes, Butler talked about
playing the long game each season
and turning into playoff Jimmy after
the All-Star break. So he said the following,
you mean how can I turn into the greatest basketball player in the world
all of a sudden?
I don't know, man.
I'm just different.
I think this is when you're supposed to be playing your best basketball,
and you have to find a way to get your team to win these games
when you're talking about the playoffs coming around.
But even right now, you're getting everybody into their roles.
You're getting into a rhythm.
And with my music, I'm getting into my rhythm.
Speaking for myself and everybody else in this locker room, we want to win. That's our focus.
So the Heat are sixth in the East right now. And they're in the midst of a, you know,
seven to one in their last eight games. But those are wins over the Pistons,
the Jazz. The only L they took in that streak is to the Nuggets. They also beat the Blazers the Kings Pelican Sixers and smack the Bucks
But
Rashad we'll start with you thoughts on Jimmy Butler
Talking just in general about ramping up after the break and turn into the playoff Jimmy when it's closer to playoff time
It's confidence coffee
You just you just bringing it into fruition,
preparing everybody for the big run they got to make to keep it up.
You know, sixth spot is a good spot.
I'm thinking eight or nine with him talking like that.
So he'll be able to keep that confidence into the playoffs,
rolling in and knowing that he needs to show up for his team,
depending on who they play.
Who are you looking like they might play at six?
Cavs.
Cavs.
Right, now say...
Could be Cavs, could be Bucs.
No, we're not just going to say Cavs.
If they move into five or they move into seven,
who are their potential matchups?
New York or Milwaukee.
So they got Bucs, Cavs would be their most likely
first-round matchups as of right now.
They're in the six pot.
So we're looking at maybe a rematch of the first round
Bucks-Heat. I do not want that.
If they can start out. With Giannis.
With Giannis healthy, right? So their most likely
matchups right now. So we're just going to take away the fact that
who they playing and just try to make up our scenario.
No, because it's early. Six. Six is early.
So let's say they lose a couple games and go drop
No, no, no. We're going to talk about what they play now.
They playing Cavs.
They playing the Cavs. I'm looking at Cavs being a dogfight matchup for them. And playoff Jimmy going to talk about what they play now. They playing Cavs. They playing the Cavs.
I'm looking at Cavs being a dogfight matchup for them.
In playoff, Jimmy is going to have to show up.
He ain't going to have no... There ain't going to be no...
He always does, though.
He didn't six.
I ain't feeling it.
He always does show up.
So if he...
He turns into a top five player in the game in playoff time.
He has to do it again.
Well, I like to go with what I know
and I've seen him do it,
so I believe and trust that.
I believe and trust,
no matter who they play.
You put your faith in Jimmy Buckets.
For sure.
Jimmy and Bim and Spoh.
Huh.
Spoh won't have the coaching
advantage on anybody.
Well, guess what?
Fuck Miami.
Watch your mouth over there, man.
I'm with the Heat.
There's war in here. I'm with the Celtics now I'm why didn't
change my team Jimmy all that Jimmy shit now listen emo show up with that perm
against them against themselves is this time thinking sweet fan this time think it's going to be sweet. We got a different fan this time. So Gil, what do you think
about Jimmy's comments
about ramping up as the playoffs
get closer?
It's a contradiction to everything
that's been going on in life.
Why is it a contradiction, Mr. Arena?
They say that regular season they don't play hard and they're trying to figure out
how to play hard and they done put into the INT or the NIT, whatever the fuck that new
shit is called.
IST.
The NCAA tournament.
IST.
You done put that in trying to get these guys to play hard and then on the back end we have someone like jimmy butler who who says publicly that
he plays and ramps it up when it's getting ready for playoff time and then in the playoffs
isn't that a bad example of what we're trying to push you're trying to push
playing hard all season so the fact that like it's not a know, like his numbers don't really say he's,
he does that,
but because it comes out of his mouth,
it's a wrong look.
Right.
Um,
to the point,
like the fans are like,
yo,
we come to regular season.
It don't look like these guys are playing hard.
Then he comes out and says it like you get paid for regular season.
You,
you,
your game check is every game.
So that's 82 games that we're paying you for the playoffs
Cool. I appreciate the playoff atmosphere
But as an owner my check is for the regular season this when we say you can you get paid
55 million this 55 million is 82 games not the playoffs
So you telling me that when you at work in workplace on my dollar, you don't play hard?
No, he's taking it to another level.
No, no, yeah.
But you're lunching.
But what I'm saying is you're averaging 20 points a game on my $55 million,
and then you're turning 35 a game on some playoff shit that ain't got shit to do with
me?
Ah.
You know what I mean?
But that's, I don't like, I don't like
the, the, the, the, the, yeah.
I get it, I get it.
You don't like, you don't like the opposite.
Every top player, though, revs it up in the playoffs.
But they don't come out and say, hey, man, I've been
lunching, and I'm just lunching out here and waiting.
He ain't say that, he just say, say hey man. I've been lunching and I'm just lunching out here and waiting Yeah, I'm just waiting to say revving it up
I'm waiting
Ron Ron has said that before he
Never get ready the goal is to be ready for the playoffs and be a top tier for the playoff
That don't mean he was lunching my gym just means another level I could take it and we talked to Phil Haney
But that's what but that's what I'm saying. I just don't like the optics. Yeah, it looks the vocalization. Oh, he said it
He's literally said yeah, I think come out his mind mind and said, I don't really take this regular season serious.
I don't take the first half until after the break, then I ramp up, turn into playoff Jimmy to get ready for playoffs.
So, Gil, you don't like the optics of it, but is that a good way to approach the season?
For a vet like him?
For a star player.
For a veteran star player.
Publicly, no.
That's what I'm saying. Publicly, you can't a player. Publicly, no. That's what I'm saying.
Publicly you can't say this.
Publicly.
Right?
Even though, let's say if you're averaging 29, right, and you turn it up to 30, 33, 34,
that makes sense.
Right?
But you're saying you're averaging 20 in the regular season, you're going to 35, and you
publicly say, yeah, I just coached through the regular season to get ready for a playoff. Yeah
That's tough
Not on my
Revenue up to like 35 in the place
Think about you. I'm writing this check you had number six
And you could have been two three if we play like you fucking up out where we are now think about if we lose in the
first second round because of where we were sitting because you decided to be 20 and not 28
let me tell you something about miami though they only care about the playoffs yeah see
pat ross uh it's either win or it's misery that's all that's the only language that they speak and
it's either we win it all or it's misery and And so, the regular season is to get us ready to play
for the playoffs and win it all.
However it looks. So, if we got to
rev it all the way up just to make it
there, we'd do that. But if we get to
coast and turn it up, whatever
the result is to get to the end result,
that's the thought process. So, he reached the
finals last year, but are they playing with fire with that
mentality? AFC last year,
were blessed and fortunate to get Giannis hurt it's only been one team that
won more games in them last day going state when's the last what they've been
doing has been working when's the last time they won what happens here you
looking at it you're ready he's allowed a year 20 20 20 13 14 7 13 oh it's
almost 10 years I mean yeah but they haven't had no championship talent
So I'm just I'm just asking them just a simple question. This 10 years. Yeah, 12 over 10 years
They've knocked on the door. Oh, I'm just saying I
Knocked on the door. No, I'm not I just don't like I just don't like
I'm the same the ten years ago. Yeah. Yeah, I'm not on the team now move places y'all move the door in there is it the door ain't there no more hey man is it a window it's a window now it's a window now they changed the code there's
only been one team more consistent over these over the playoff wins right so whatever they doing
is being working on giving them a chance to win it even though they haven't won it
they've been knocking on the door with the talent that they have. Is it because you don't take the regular season series?
No, they just don't have it.
Because you don't take the regular season series?
I mean, listen.
Do they wait because they wait to ramp it up?
Two of the last four finals, though.
They don't have the talent.
I just said.
Don't vocalize it.
I just don't vocalize it.
You know what I mean?
Don't, like.
It's like women say.
I know he's a basketball player. I know he's going. Just don't tell me you're cheating. Right. Don't. know I mean don't like it's like the women say I know he's the basketball player
No, he's gonna just don't tell me you're cheating right don't I just just the do them if it just do what you're gonna do
I'm gonna pretend I don't see it right. You know what I mean?
So that's the idea like don't say it out loud that you don't go hard
until
Because the fans is like, you know, I came here to a dude go hard when they they had a michael jordan
they had a kobe bryant right you know what i mean they they had a larry bird and the magic johnson
so when you say it you make a motherfucker like me look stupid when i talk about how bad the 80s was
because they're gonna say well hey hold on they played hard They part hard all 82 games you
But you talk about he culture as well, right?
So shouldn't that be a part of the culture playing hard at everybody play harder. They do play hard
I play that's even the thing with me. He made those comments
But the comparables between the first half a second half. Yes, not a humongous difference there
No, that's an output
What you said is there when you look at that? first half and second half of the season. Not a humongous difference. No, that's not. In terms of output.
What you said is, when you look at that,
like when he first said it, like a while back,
I looked at him and was like, oh, he's trolling.
But don't say it.
Yeah.
You know what I mean? You got to lie to the people.
If Luka came out and said, yeah,
I don't play defense until the second half of the season,
then I ramp it up when I get to playoffs,
everybody's going to be like,
oh, no.
So you ain't giving no effort on defense until you get to the playoffs? Yeah.
You see how bad that will look
if it came out of his mouth?
When I heard him say it, I watched the game
and then I'm looking and I'm like,
what the fuck is this?
Because I see it.
I see you get in the lane,
have a layup,
and then throw it.
And I'm like,
what is he doing?
Why is he doing that?
He's getting it ready.
So it's like,
all right,
I see what you're doing,
but if you get there
and you don't take it
to the next level
to win it,
it's because you've wasted
a lot of this ammunition
during a time
when you could have been intimidating guys. You could have been wasted a lot of this ammunition during a time when you could have been intimidating guys.
You could have been doing a lot of damage during the midseason,
and now you get here, and it's like,
well, you got to deliver on what you just said now.
Granted, most of the time, they'd be injured a lot of the times for the heat,
and they'd be healthy at the right time.
Jimmy'd be in and out the lineup.
Like, over the years, he rose in and out the lineup.
The only one that'd be in the lineup constantly
is bail and that's why when we had that discussion I was like you're right you're right Bama's always
solid yeah so I just I like one thing I can't one thing I can't give you know the the 80s and the
90s the credit force they did come play hard every day. Oh, 82 games. Like, you would have never said, you know,
you would have never heard Jordan or one of those older guys
talking about, yeah, you know, we try to coast it
through the regular season, you know,
until we get to the playoffs, and then we're going
to step it up a notch.
Like, nah, like, whatever the notch was,
they're going to turn it up a whole nother notch.
So, you know, I don't, like, even though I don't see
none of the players just really looking like
they don't give a fuck
and then turn it up,
I just don't like the fact
that you would put it out there
as a narrative.
Yep.
Agreed.
And the fact that the media
doesn't call it out
is the horrible part of it.
When we do have
an in-season tournament
that is because of this
type of thought process.
That's a fact.
That's it.
But nothing against, you know, Jimmy, because I know he goes hard and he takes everything serious.
Well, it's like when Giannis said he doesn't watch film, we know he watches film.
But that's not obviously even in a joking manner, a narrative you want to put out there.
Because we do have a lot of simple-minded human beings on this planet who will take that and run with it.
Called the casuals.
Yeah.
Called it basic media.
Yeah, yeah.
The casuals.

But y'all want to know,
as a star player,
what was your approach to an 82-game season?
82 games is long.
I don't think a lot of people really grasp
going from October to April
and what that entails. And even somebody
like yourself who's an all-star, you don't get that
all-star break. There's even more shit going
on and now you're supposed to roll right in
to the back half of the season.
How do you pace yourself? How do you
basically break that season down?
I never went into
the season breaking it down like
five games, ten games. That's what
Coach does. For the most part,
it's
game by game,
West Coast trip.
When I played,
when we went to those
dull cities back
then, not even in Minnesota,
but Memphis or one of them that
the team sucks there's not a high level guard i gotta sit there and try to convince myself so
i'll come out the game and then i'll say that oh larry bird line right all right y'all we're
gonna treat them like some hoes we're gonna get a little ass and then we're gonna get out of here
so one of them can say oh hell no then i get my fire because you know when
you know we played against the lakers we play against miami we play against uh that boston
team when kevin garden and them got their sons our motors are already going right so for the
most part when we're going through the season mentally i'm trying to stay with the same routine
right be as consistent as possible stay with the basics routine, right? Be as consistent as possible. Stay with the basics
Make sure I'm doing my my my my everyday thing and make sure the team is functioning
But you're right. There was some games where where where Jimmy would say I got this wide open
Let he's been off for a little bit. Let me go into the game, you know trying to get him involved
Right and then at the end I'll try to turn it up
So there was games where you know, you to get him involved, right? And then at the end, I'll try to turn it up. So there was games where, you know, you, you would not go as hard offensively trying to get, you know,
one of your guys, you know, involved, but for the most part, you're just, you're trying to win every
game, but for the most, you know, it's, but after all-star break, you, you did, I didn't just,
you did lock in different. It was a playoff lock in.
And then when the playoffs started, it was like a whole other level of everything gets cut off.
All distractions are gone.
You know what I mean?
That's the difference between a regular season and a playoff.
In the playoffs, it's only about the playoffs.
There's no, we're about to go to Miami this week.
We're about to go to Miami this week. We're about to go this. In the playoffs, it's like hotel, make sure we're stretching, drinking your water, getting hydrated, watching your film.
It's detail-oriented.
So it's not like you're doing anything different game-wise.
You're just taking all the distractions that could have.
The work ain't really coming like that.
No work, okay.
No.
The work is shut off.
It's important, but just in terms of, like I said,
the grueling aspect of that season and now making sure you have enough.
Shit, it's a championship, so I...
But even for North.
How did y'all, yeah.
But making sure you have enough to make that playoff push.
We did like a build-up type of thing in Miami.
So early in the year, like we always go hard,
but it was about establishing habits.
So we would like, our playbook would be only a certain amount we'll work on certain plays certain
plays certain coverages and some games we wouldn't make an adjustment we just
do that just so we can master it and like sometimes Paul would not make an
adjustment on purpose like you know people started downing people started
like being in drop you know we was a show team we would show a lot and I was
always over never under set for like specialty guards like Rondo so I was people started like being in drop you know we was a show team we would show a lot and i was always
over never under except for like specialty guards like ron don't so like so it was always
what we would call the harder way the more difficult to take more effort away but that
was to get us in habit in training mode and so when we got to like the second half of the season
like conditioning part like the vets you could tell the vets will start doing a little bit more on the treadmill,
you know, getting their cardio up ready
because, you know, guys are going to probably start playing more minutes.
The rotation sometimes will get shorter as we get closer to the playoffs.
So now you, like, you got to make your mark on the team.
So, like, can coach trust you?
Are you going to be in this top eight, top nine rotation or are you not?
And so then the cold tub, you start focusing on that
because we know who we about to have to start playing. I know for us, we knew we had to go see
Indiana, Chicago, Boston. Those was going to be three slugfests, all of them. And so we started
preparing our bodies and minds for that. And for me as a role player, I wanted to make sure I was
in the most tip-top shape. So the closer I got to playoffs, the more weights I was lifting
and the more conditioning I was doing to make sure I could press full court,
to make sure I'm only going to play 20, 25 minutes.
I could play 25 max minutes, like balls to the wall for 20, 25 minutes straight.
And Bron and them would make sure their shooting touch was on point.
The closer we got to the end of the season, D-Wne, Brian, Ray Allen, they would be in the lab.
You know, they always shot extra shots,
but they would be very specific in how many shots they would give
to make sure they got the best shooting rhythm.
Even in the game, they would take almost more shots later in the season
to make sure we was going into playoffs they had rhythm.
Like, they would even take tough shots, like,
just to work on their shot-making ability.
Because you know, the playoffs, sometimes they know the plays.
It's just a matter of can you make the shot on the defense or not.
So as the season would go on, they would start working on their repertoire.
D-Wade would start working on that double-head fake fadeaway off the glass CB.
He would be real technical in his positioning.
So that's how we rev it up. It's
not that we didn't play hard in the regular season. It's just that the intensity, it's
a certain intensity when you're playing for the marbles. When it's like we win, it's good.
We lose, it's a failure of a season. That's a tough... For us in Miami, that's what it
was. If we won, great. We lose, you suck. It was the worst ever.
And so that's how we revved it up.
They didn't win over there, man.
Okay.
Rashad.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They didn't win over there, man.
Hey, I'm not that far in front of you.
I'm not that far in front of you. They call me Raphael in the chat.
They are calling you Raphael.
You look like Count Fulmartin, man.
Leave me alone, man.
They called you Dragonfly McKenzie.
McKenzie, I was just right in front of you.
I lasted just a few more games in front of you.
McKenzie, make it to the playoffs.
There's a black man for sure.
Gil, you made it to the playoffs. conversation. I used to cook Cleveland.
Who's the cook Cleveland?
Pass the torch to the next conversation.
I've got shit to say.
I will be watching.
I didn't win.
I didn't win.
Nothing either, boy.
That's...
But I knew. I knew. I will be watching I didn't win nothing either boy
but I knew I mean like
you know like
playoffs was different man I'm not even
gonna lie it was
that intensity was way
like even when I went to go like
like this is you're talking about
like 20 year old brawn dog
when we was playing him in the playoffs
and you know when we over there
gambling right and he watching you know when we over there gambling
right and he watching you know the tv with the the screens with the extra screens inside of him
he's sitting there taking notes and you just like me i'm like none of that going to work right
but the fact that i remember him doing it like oh he got our game here he got other games that's going on he's watching
Detroit he's watching you know what I mean it's just like yeah it's like a mental thing yeah
it's like a mental thing because even though he's watching our series he's watching the other series
too right so you can just only imagine that means someone taught him to do that right that means the
Kobe's and LeBron I mean you know the Kobe and the jordans and all of them guys was probably on that same flow yeah all right
well let's keep this thing in motion uh nba dunk contest used to be the highlight of all-star
star weekend uh this year's version left much to be desired two-time all-star zion williamson
is willing to participate in the event next year under one condition.
I got to do my part and make the All-Star game.
If I'm in the All-Star game, I'll do the dunk contest.
But if I'm not, not doing it.
Well, then you're shaping to be an All-Star then.
That sounds like...
No, no, no, don't do that to him.
Because he's an All-Star if he ain't shaping.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hands down, everybody's voting him All-Star.
Being coming into the season in shape to get an All-Star game. That sounds like a threat to me. Because he'll an all-star if he ain't safe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hands down, everybody's voting him all-star. Being coming into the season in shape and getting an all-star game.
That sounds like a threat to me.
Because he'll win it.
Yeah.
He'll win it.
I don't think Norris knows he'll show up to the show,
and he'll put his hands on you.
Yeah.
His hands will pull up.
His hands are like they were in shape.
You think?
What's he saying?
His hands will move.
Me, when he put them on his head. We were out there.
I heard what you were saying.
I heard what you were saying.
We were out at Summer League. We were doing a show at the Blue Wire Studios at the Wynn.
They got a big glass window that anybody could see in as they're walking through the hotel lobby.
He happened to be walking through while we were in the midst of another glorious episode of Gil's Arena
presenting my underdog fantasy, Woop, whoop, whoop.
And we was talking about him.
Saw Gil.
In the moment.
Like he was probably watching it.
Oh, these sneaks.
You got scared?
Ah, nah.
Nah, I'm just saying.
You know how like somebody put your hand on your shoulder?
Uh-huh.
Ready.
That little grip.
Like, oh, wait, hold on.
Oh, kung fu shit.
Oh, shit started going down.
I heard what you were saying. Huh. Came in looking like J things were tucked in we had some gentleman's cut courtesy of Steph Curry
Boy in the aftermath, but I want to see
Mount Zion that's what the shoe everything. That's that's what we want to see. Hey, man. They keep talking about my hat man
All right, man. All right. Don't let the don the chat bully you. Nah, man, the chat know.
I don't know.
Wear what you did, Gil.
There you go.
Right.
Oh, yeah, you got to show that.
Oh, wait, that's your autograph on it?
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, autograph, man.
I got my own checks now.
Yes, sir.
Just got to get the G right.
You can't be letting the chat do that shit to you, man.
You know.
They right.
They can see.
Fuck.
I was already insecure about the hat anyway.
Like, why don't fold it?
You know what I mean? Talking about the br anyway like why don't fold in I mean and
There's like just turn it around got it sitting at your house you sit in it
We sit at your house got it. Thank you chat. They turn it around. They see that they house right whose house is better
Somebody said Gil is not the 2000 stop wearing your hat like you bout to shoot a music video with Chingy
That's exactly the one I
see. There's nothing wrong
with shooting a music video with Chingy or
the early 2000s. I like that. There's nothing wrong
with the 2000s. Hey, Chingy was
a beast back then. You know, for our age,
man, we don't want to look old
and outdated. Yes, I do. You know what I mean?
Yes, I do. Yes, I do. I got jokes.
I don't want to look too young. I got jokes, too.
That's why I dress like a
Cook these new what y'all better cut it out at a spot. I know your mama
Your mama stop your mother may be in the chat as well. I know your mama
Now but for real now we want to see it
Huh
Zion and you know, you know what that they're all I mean the dunk contest could be revived next year as Zion
Jalen Green,
Jha show up. Those three right there.
Man. People would be like,
I bet.
The dunk contest is back.
That might make Zach Levine want to jump back in it.
We might get blessed with a real one.
Aaron Gordon might jump back in it. You know what I mean?
It could either end racism or increase it.
Mack McClung, two-time champ. The man is in the G League.
But Zion needs to get to that All-Star game.
I appreciate him for saying that.
Yeah, I'll do it.
Because I'm sure if he's not in the All-Star game,
the hell I'm going down there.
I'm going down there.
I want to see him just shatter a backboard.
But let's talk a little bit more just about what Zion's doing
on the court this season.
I know you all saw Stephen A. Smith get packed up by the Pelicans account.
He was going a little too hard on Zion.
Hasn't been watching enough of his games.
A man that's been doing his thing.
Zion's been the subject of criticism the past few seasons as he's battled injuries, some off-court issues, you know, some work-related, some health-related.
But he's been playing well this season.
He's averaging 22, close to 6 rebounds, 5 assists.
But more importantly, he's appeared in 51 of his 62
possible games. Pelicans are holding down the 60 in the West
right now. During a recent interview with The Athletic, Zion
had this to say about his commitment to the game and his squad.
He said, people don't understand how much I really love this
shit. I pour everything into doing my best for the team
and for the people who support me in New Orleans.
I mean, when we talk to him, man,
you can see that he was passionate about the game.
There's just some times, man, that when you're
giving everything with no guidance, with no rule book
of how you're supposed to be a pro,
you can get lost to the elements, right?
And, you know, the elements for him was, you know,
food and hoes.
Why did I say it like that?
In that order, Gil, or...
I don't know, it's probably a combo.
Going to dinner, you know what I mean?
Don't say hoes no more.
Work. Thank you. Okay, so say hoes no more. Work.
Thank you.
Okay, so work.
Food and work.
Right.
So those were his two vices, which those are not that bad when you think about, yeah.
You know what I mean?
The things we know, so those what he has is fixable. And that's just maturity and try to really understand that, you know, both can take you down just as bad as the rest of them.
And, you know, when you're talking about, you know, in season stuff, you know, you know, calories is a big part of the season.
Right. You know, calorie intake, because as hard as you're going, you're not right.
You know, you have more off days and you have game days
So, you know, that's what I said. I gained weight during the season and just from drinking Gatorades on the bench
Right, and I'm jumping on a scale like wait what the hell just happened?
Alright, so I had to like dilute it get the g2 and dilute the g2 right so all mine were like g2
Technically G we have water. Yeah. Technically half water, G water.
Yeah, so there's a G water.
That's all it was.
It was, you know, with electrolytes in it,
just, you know what I mean?
So, you know, you have to be cautious
of what you put in your body while you're playing also.
Calories and malories.
The thing is that we have access to all that now.
What?
Nutritional health. Yeah, we didn't before. I mean, you know, you have access to all that now. What? Nutritional help.
Yeah, we didn't before.
I mean, you got access to all that.
There's other veteran players that's willing to help you if you reach out,
if you don't have too much pride to reach out.
I don't think there's no excuse.
I think he's a talented player.
He's a supremely talented player.
He's a top ten player in this league when he's healthy and in shape.
Nobody's like Zion.
He's one of the most, like how you got LeBron, how you got Victor, Wimby.
Zion is in his own category as a specimen, as a player himself.
And we want to see that as basketball enthusiasts and basketball purists.
We want to see the best in shape in their element so that we can enjoy the game.
Tell them how you feel.
It feels like with Zion, he got a lot of heat and was getting a lot of criticism after the in-season tournament.
Pelicans got smacked up by the Lakers.
But this squad, currently fifth in the West.
They're playing well.
Fifth in the West.
Does this seem like people just forgot about him?
He's not being talked about in the national media enough for what he's been able to accomplish this season.
But Brandon Ingram is the man on the team right now.
And so he's playing right now because he had a slow start to the season.
Ingram took the reins.
Like, you know what?
I got it.
And so he's just playing his part.
They're winning.
So there's no need for him to be selfish and try to be like,
you know what?
Let me get back to my normal average of 27.
But that two-headed monster right there,
Zion still leading the team in scoring.
Brandon Ingram, I think, right below him.
Zion at 22, Brandon Ingram at 21.7.
Ingram's playing amazing, too,
but it just seems like those dudes
are getting lost in the shuffle
when you talk about the Pelicans
being fifth in the West right now.
Consistent.
They're just playing.
They're playing good enough to win,
but not good enough to catch anybody's attention.
I don't think nobody really want to play them, though.
I think, like we was talking about the other day 22 was Brandon Eagren's average? 21.7
So about that 22. That's average. That's nothing.
For elite players. We don't even see that right? You need
25, 27. That's when we like because when i watch them play they zion defers a
lot to the other guys and he has to force his way to get to his 22 and those forced points that he's
getting is all right i know i gotta get to the bucket i know you can't guard me boom but that
could happen throughout the whole game and if you get three buckets a quarter, that's 24 points a game just three buckets
You know I'm saying like you said if you in shape that's not it's eyes closed, right?
So even for bi 21 points a game you really
But y'all winning so it's no pressure about to say there's no pressure. So
It's tough it's tough for both of them yeah just because a small
market already yeah and they went in so it's under the radar so it's gonna be
way under the radar in the West right so I know they just need to figure it out
I don't want to be a hypocrite cuz we want to winning matters you know how we
were saying Luca got like elevated numbers but you know the hill play no
deep not at winning
Cures to him not averaging 27. I am mad at him every 27 if they want it. It's just how he's getting those 22 points
The motor can be you can tell if you watch the game
Oh, well, it can he can take it up to another level if he's in a little bit better shape
So you do you think do you think um do you think he's conserving himself a little bit because of he needs to
play a certain amount of games this year for sure doesn't he have like a uh he already missed that
i thought he missed that cause already i think it's just like over the next couple seasons i
believe if he hits a certain threshold of games. Yeah, because he's playing.
All his money ain't just guaranteed.
You got to make a threshold.
Weight and amount of games.
I thought it was the weight thing that he missed already.
No.
Uh-uh.
It is not.
So what it is is it's not the last two or three years is not guaranteed because he missed games last year.
So now he's still playing as a restricted free agent.
Yeah, turn the salary from guaranteed to non-guaranteed, I think, for the next three seasons.
That was the thing that you're saying, conservative-wise, is in the back of his mind.
He already fucked some shit up.
I got to be healthy.
I got to make sure I ride the thing out.
Get some solid numbers.
Continue to be free. the thing out. Get some solid numbers. Continue. You know what I think we don't pay attention
to them is because
him and B.I.,
they're doing exactly
the opposite of the metrics of
what the NBA is right now.
That team shot
49 threes
last game. Between
them two, they took one.
They don't shoot threes at all.
They don't shoot threes at all.
Right?
So it's not, you know what I mean?
Play to their strengths.
Yeah, they're just playing to their strengths.
So it's like one of those teams that they shoot a lot of threes,
but the two-star players don't.
So it's not sexy to what.
It's not entertaining.
Yeah, it's not entertaining.
They're turning to San Antonio.
It's not very loud.
They're not very loud at what they're doing.
So they need to somehow create.
Which I'm cool with that, though.
As long as you win and get the results you want.
I don't like the whole everybody play the same way.
I like when there's diversity in the league.
But they turn into Memphis, where it's like it's grind and grit,
small market, and it's not entertaining.
So it's like you find yourself not on TV,
you find yourself not on SportsCenter,
you find yourself like, oh, we just got a couple highlights
of y'all doing what?
Because you're not shooting threes.
But they winning.
But they winning.
Don't we prioritize winning?
I prioritize winning overall, so I'm cool with it.
No, for sure.
Keep doing what y'all can, just get in shape.
Dude, why the hell are you holding your hand?
You can't be out there.
Someone said I dress like an AAU dad on Saturdays.
Brother, that's what I do every goddamn day.
Can we get you a Bluetooth?
Can we get you a Bluetooth?
Hey, they be saying I be dressing nice at the games, though.
Can we get you a Bluetooth and a bag of Chili Cheese Fritos?
Damn.
I had a Wizards jersey.
You had it locked up.
MJ Wizards jersey, just like that.
I was going to wear the MJ.
What's the name of the jersey? They were questioning the jersey earlier in the show. You had it locked up. MJ Wizards jersey, just like that. I was going to wear the MG, what's-his-name jersey.
They were questioning the jersey earlier in the show.
They said it was Fugazi.
Somebody in the chat had to point out. No, that's a hardwood classic.
That's a hardwood classic, baby.
That's my point.
Somebody in the chat had to point out the man's wearing an old jersey.
That's official.
Mitchell and Ness right there.
Because my hat just came out, y'all.
My hat.
Marshall's clear as crap.
That's what I'm saying.
I'm saying.
Put your fingers, man.
What I'm saying is today, Washington is about to be sold out and
not because of the players they need to have I'll just promote and trolling in the chat man
every time y'all talk about what they saying we embrace it now. Because you know why? The more people in the chat, the bigger the chat.
I'm not that drunk. I mean, you know,
Twisted T ain't that...
Twisted T was responsible
for some of the comments Gil made earlier in the show,
so, you know, we will be
dealing with that, obviously, afterwards.
But again,
Rashad, your point. You're saying Zion,
if he was a 25, 26, 27,
kind of what his standard
averages are, he would get a lot more attention.
But we also talked about, we bashed the dude for not playing, not us, but some of the media
bashed him for not playing, talked about his weight, talked about his work-related issues.
Now he's doing all those things.
Mm-hmm.
Under the radar.
You don't want to say nothing.
No work issues.
Give credit where credit's due.
No work issues.
I mean, he's having a great year.
He's playing solid. He's been there. He's been I mean, he's having a great year. He's playing solid.
He's solid.
He's been there.
He's been healthy, and that's really all that matters.
Yeah, he don't need no attention.
I mean, I think the way he's played it has gotten the attention off of him about all the negative things, so he can just fly under the radar.
I just think that when you're at that elite level
and you want to make the All-Star game,
it's got to look a little different.
Still only 23 years old, though,
which I think gets lost in the sauce
for what a lot of people are talking about.
B.I., only 26, I think.
So that core C.J. McCollum obviously doing his thing,
Trey Murphy, they got a squad
that could potentially make some noise in the postseason.
50 right now if the
playoff started today they would be playing the Clippers
do you think this Pelican squad can make any noise in the postseason I see you making that
face at me anything is possible though it is the Los Angeles Clippers a great team great coach
but historically prone to tricking things off. Come on, there's
there's hot takes
and then there's reality.
Okay, hot take is, ooh, they might beat the Clippers.
Reality, no.
They have no chance in hell
so we ain't even going to put that
and you know I don't even like the Clippers
but I'm not even going to let them
they not lose.
Fix their mouth?
Yeah, it's one is them they not lose one is a
superior team one is a young team
right
it would take
all of those guys really
just playing out of body and Zion
really turning it up
and it's going to take a
team effort for them
in the playoffs that's a team effort
I just don't think they're ready as a It's going to take a team effort for them in the playoffs. That's a team effort.
I just don't think they're ready as a group yet.
Those are one of the groups that will be next year.
Zion played a whole year healthy, got into the summer,
and then came back on vengeance mode.
They can possibly be how Timberwolves is this year.
That can be them next year. Or you can be like, oh shit, New Orleans is top three in the West.
That could be them next year. Rashad, you don't think Chance and Hell will beat the Clippers?
Nah. They just kind of like Cleveland on the East. You got a chance to make it to the playoffs,
get in there.
They'll get four-tubed.
They're not ready.
Like you said,
everything you said,
they're not ready yet.
They don't got no real
solid dependable pieces
to beat the guys
who have already been there,
done that.
The older guys have got shit to really play for.
So it's too much to prove on the West for them to get past a lot of those teams.
I believe they're 2-1 against the Clippers this season.
One of those wins came before the December surge.
Just pointing that out.
Okay.
Sharing your – I know.
You did.
Thank you, Gil.
Thank you, Gil.
Thank you for pointing it out for me.
I mean, you pointed it out for me.
All right.
Let's move on to our last segment of the day.
Mostly fans.
Presented by Underdog Fantasy.
Woo!
If you have not done so already, download the Appy's promo code, Gil.
They will match your first deposit up to $100.
Uh-oh.
There it goes.
All right. Uh-oh. There it goes.
All right, our first question comes from the chat.
It's from underdog fantasy user Don't McCants Me.
I did not pick these questions, Rashad.
I remember this nigga from last year.
Okay, as you know, I'm very supportive of you and your contributions to the program.
A lot of red, though.
We will discuss that after the show who will
have a better career Chet or Shang-Goon That's all I'm pointing out. Uh...
Damn.
I don't know the answer. The reason I don't like this answer,
I don't really... I can't really swear,
because Sangoon can be the next Joker.
Right.
He can be the next Joker.
He can just be a one-year, two-year type of guy.
Chet can turn into something
We haven't seen before so
Y'all know you like age
Chet is older than Shangoon even though shanghoons in his third season Chet in his red shirt rookie the same age basically
Yeah, I'm just saying like I mean because we have a yoke itch. We we can see where Sangoon is heading. Right. Right.
Jokic with a little bit more ability. And then Chet is going to have certain stats that Sangoon can't get.
That's a tough one.
That's a tough one for me.
That's like asking, like, Garnett and Dirk.
Which one had the better career?
Stop it.
What's the answer to the Garnett-Dirk question? No, no, that's not the question. Okay. I want to go there. You said stop it what was the answer to the garnet dirt question no no that's not the question
okay i want to go there you said stop it i just wanted to know if you know yeah i'm just i mean
singoon reminds me of luis gola so big that can pass he can make some moves he's got the euro
centric ball game i just don't see it moving past.
Well, just the way that they play defense, he can get away with a lot of shit,
just like Joker get away with a lot of shit.
And Chet, as big as he is, I never really liked his game.
So I would go with Chet just because he's on a good team,
and if he stayed with that team long enough, his career would be a lot better.
But in Houston, they're going to end up moving Sangoon
just because they're not used to keeping pieces.
They're going to move around.
They got stability now with the coach.
Yeah, they're not winning.
They're not getting rid of Jalen Green and Sangoon.
They're going to have to.
I mean, I think because of their price points
and obviously this new CBA. Yeah, them two players. I mean, I think because of their price points and obviously this new CBA.
Yeah, them two players.
I mean, that's their one-two.
They got good value when you look at it from the way that they're showcasing them.
But just the way that I'll see talent and compare to talent
and how I see how he plays compared to Chet.
I'll pick Chet.
I don't know how to start balance this year.
I think we're going to have to do it. I don't know. But I'll pick Chet. We're going to all-star ballast this year. Shanguna's that dude.
I will point out again,
they're similar age, but Shanguna in his third season,
Chet in his redshirt rookie season should be
a second.
Jalen Green ain't SGA.
Let's put it like that.
That could make a difference.
That could be the difference.
But it looked like Shanguna, you could throw him the ball and say, hey, work.
I don't see him giving the ball to Chet and saying work.
Well, he has the opportunity to be able to say, hey, go to work.
Chet is SGA, and it's Williams out there.
And Chet, he thin.
It's a different style.
They're centers, but they're just two different types.
Two way different styles. They're just two way different players just two different styles. Two way different styles.
They're just two way different players. That's why I can't even
judge on them. You got us on that one,
man. Yeah, I was about to say, you stumped us on that one.
Don't McCance me. Enjoy your
$50 underdog fantasy donut.
That's a hundred.
You got to give him a hundred. He stumped us.
If underdog does not give you the hundred, contact
Gilbert Arenas. We couldn't answer
it really like that.
It's a group. We might have to debate that on the show in the near future
See what everybody thinks like you can play make sure I'm not on play through
All right, so we got another question it's a video question from underdog fantasy user still wavy If y'all had to rank these hood classics from 1 to 3 belly set it off and
Dead presidents, what would it be? So rank hood classics?
Best to worst 1 to 3 belly set it off their presidents. That's another I'm at where I'm at. I'm gonna be where I'm be I

Get this money.
That's what I said.

Robbery it's been about it's been they spent a whole cool 20,000 on the movie. That wasn't yeah
Come on, but y'all trip belly character family for the second
So I'm gonna say the state who have more production that I don't like that shit one bit
Who have more production that are bats? I got the Ava race on nigga had the Ava Rex on in the end
Come on
Dollar production Williams Movie Hey, come on man. That was a $10,000 production. That was a $10,000 production.
Hype Williams, bro.
That was a music video movie.
That was a music video movie, you figure?
The first ever.
It was a long-ass music video.
That's all it was.
Very well stylized.
100%.
But back then, those were the type of classic movies.
You know what I mean?
Those were the type of movies that was considered classic. Shout out to It was those are the type of Keisha's kids Keisha consider classic shout out to clean one of Keisha back there

quitar 215
My question is Gil who your top five players to wear number zero besides yourself. Whoa?
Shit I got this top five we're gonna go
Westbrook, Dame.
Right, careers, like overall careers, right?
Your top five players who are number zero.
Westbrook, Dame, Tatum at three, Love at four.
Who has longevity?
Drummond.
The Drummond?
Drummond played most of his career in zero, right?
Yeah, so those would be mine
Okay, that's for no Orlando Woolwich
Was that double zero or that was regular zero regular zero? Well, no, no, I said Orlando Woolwich. No, I said Tatum. No, I said a
Westbrook Tatum let Westbrook name love and drumming. Don't work. That's fine. That's my father
No, no Tyrese Halliburton.
He's played two years.
His career ain't better than drumming's right now.
I'm just saying.
We're not talking about the hottest niggas right now.
Nah, you right, bro. Stand on it.
Oliver Miller.
Better than drumming?
Oliver Miller? Better than drumming?
Sheesh, man. Better than drumming's?
Not better than drumming, bro.
Oliver Miller? Shit, I'm sitting there. If you add me in there. I'm sitting there like
Probably right at five
Who? Robert Harris knows double zero both
Like that's I said like even if I had myself I'm probably what maybe right in front of drumming
maybe what maybe right in front of drumming maybe not only because i got three all mbas and you get the
name agent zero yeah like so like i'm i will be behind i will be behind love and like career you
said dame right he's he's second behind westbrook do your list westbrook tatum dame kevin love
andre drummond who's the sixth man coming off the bench?
He said Kevin Love. Disgusting.
At four?
Ugh. The fact that you even said that
was like, wow.
What? Kevin Love can't get no love?
Hell nah.
Hell nah.
The real Kevin Love was number 42.
He was trash too.
What?
Yeah. Fuck Kevin Love.
Oh man.
Don't fuck with that nigga like that.
What's going on?
Is it Drummond?
Is it some person?
Caleb Drummond?
Oh yeah.
He played in Minnesota.
