Episode Date: March 27, 2024

Gil's Arena Celebrates Anthony Davis DOMINATING The Milwaukee Bucks as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew break down the Los Angeles Lakers' BIG WIN where AD & Austin Reaves shined in a much needed... victory with LeBron James on the bench. They also address how the loss for the Bucks could mean trouble for Giannis Antetokounmpo & Damian Lillard's squad heading into playoffs and discuss what the 2 superstars can do to find a way to work together. Next they turn back the clock to react to a vintage Klay Thompson performance that saw the splash bro start for the first time in weeks and break down the unprecedented offer to Caitlin Clark from the Big 3 & debate how this game changing offer could change things for future stars of the WNBA. Starting point is 00:00:58 Of course. Okay. Pretty good games on the television that we will talk about on today's lovely show. This is Gil's Arena, presented by Underdog Fantasy. As always, we got the legend Gilbert Arenas here with us. How you doing? Doing well, Gilbert. How about yourself?
Starting point is 00:01:13 I'm doing very well. Feeling good. Feeling good. Feeling lovely. It's a lovely day. We got Lexi Brown back with us. Yay. Back to back.
Starting point is 00:01:23 Back to back. We got former Milwaukee Buck, Kenya Martin to back. Back to back. We got former Milwaukee Buck, Kenya Martin, back here on the couch. Damn. Damn. Damn. Let's do the Bucks. That was like a shot.
Starting point is 00:01:35 That was like a cup of coffee. Meaningful, though. Actually, it was a shot of liquor, actually. Meaningful, though. I remember Milwaukee Buck. Meaningful. Like, them games. Remember Milwaukee, bro? Impactful. Forever left a mark on the city of Milwaukee and the five people there. I don't know about that.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Not staying at the Fister. And we got Mr. B. Mr. Bucks is six. Back in the building. Was in Milwaukee. Came back to join us today. Know what time it is. Brave man.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Very brave. You know, we're going to have some things to discuss, but here's what's cracking in the arena today. The Lakers stunned the Bucs in Milwaukee with all LeBron. What does this win mean for them in their season? The Warriors got Klay back in the starting lineup and got a vintage performance and a much-needed win over the Heat.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Kurt said Klay's starting isn't permanent, but should it be? And the Big Three offered likely WNBA number one pick Kaitlyn Clark $5 million to play in the league this season. Allegedly. Allegedly. Should Clark take the back? That's a lot of...
Starting point is 00:02:39 I like that graphic. That's a lot of bread. That's a lot of money. That's a lot of bread, as the young kid said. Last game of the NBA season, April 14th, on a Sunday. April 14th, on a Sunday. We got a lot to get into today. We'll talk about some interesting news first that dropped. On a Sunday during what time? Think of what?
Starting point is 00:04:09 Evening time? Evening. After all the games. Oh, after all the games. After all the games have been played. The Lakers have secured six seed. Damn, damn. That's going to be a hostile show.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Hostile territory. It's going to be some hurt feelings, to say the least. Not mine. Damn. Not mine. My team's already in the playoffs. Okay, well, for some. We're going to talk about some interesting news that dropped today.
Starting point is 00:04:37 The Big 3 and NBA beef has been well documented, and now Ice Cube is trying to apply the pressure. On Wednesday, it was leaked that the Big 3 made a $5 million offer to likely WNBA number one overall pick, Kaitlyn Clark, to play in the league this season. It'll be 10 games, I believe 8 regular season games, 2 potential playoff games. After the news dropped, Ice Cube jumped on Twitter to confirm the report, saying the following, We intended the offer to remain private while Kaitlyn Clark plays for the championship, but I won't deny what's now already out there.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Big 3 made a historic offer to Kaitlyn Clark. Why wouldn't we? Kaitlyn is a generational athlete who can achieve tremendous success in the Big 3. So the deal is unprecedented. Only problem is the Big 3 season and the WNBA season are at the same time. But the $5 million is way more than Clark and other WNBA season are at the same time. But the $5 million is way more than Clark and other WNBA rookies will make this season with the current rookie salary for top draft picks at a little under $80,000 for the season. Alexi, you're our resident expert on all things WNBA.
Starting point is 00:05:36 What do you think about Ice Cube and the big three offering Kaitlyn Clark $5 million to play in their league? Well, have a lot of thoughts but the first one is that TMZ they put out the statement that he was going to give the the contract to Katelyn Clark but if you open the with the curve if you open the article and you see what he said was his reasoning he wanted to provide more opportunities for WNBA players and provide opportunities to not go overseas. So you offered the contract to a player who's not yet even in the WNBA. Big three does not happen during overseas season. So that doesn't make sense. That's true. And then
Starting point is 00:06:19 you pretty much offended all of the European countries that open their doors to us, give us a lot of money, a lot of love, and a lot of experience by calling them dismal and dubious. And there are some very beautiful countries that we have the opportunity to go play in. So, I mean, if you're going to say that it's for that, then stand on that.
Starting point is 00:06:42 But I don't think it's for... I think he's trying to make a business decision, which he's a businessman. That makes sense. But to mask it in this, I want to uplift and support WNBA players and women athletes is kind of a cop-out, I think, and I don't think it really makes any sense.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Kenya, you both have played in the Big Three. Were you guys making anywhere near the $5 million that was offered to Kalen Clark? No. Man, that shit was something to get out the house, man. Like, fucking sitting at home. Opportunity, but no.
Starting point is 00:07:21 Yeah, I'm thanking for saying what you said. Mm-hmm. I agree. Yeah, when I read it, I was like, hmm. Yeah. There also is an opportunity for her to play called Athletes Unlimited, which is what I just returned from. If we want to talk about that I see you and then another thing
Starting point is 00:07:47 You got young lady LSU who's Pretty popular myself, you know, all right, right When I'd offer it to her Talk my injury injury. Okay. It's very popular. I mean Why not off to you Lexi why not offer to Candice Park who's been around who's still like who has a name like why not offer it to you, Lexi? Why not offer it to Candice Park, who's been around, who still, like, who has a name? Like, why not offer it to her?
Starting point is 00:08:12 Yeah. Right? If you want to support women's sports. I'm saying, why not offer it to Asia? Like, she's the biggest, baddest thing in the W, right? So why not offer it to her? Right. I'm just, that's what my brain went. It's like offering your girlfriend something when you know she can't participate in it.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Right? You know she's going girls night out. Right? She done planned for it, got her hair done, nails did. And they be like, oh, baby, you want to go to the movies? Because you want to go by yourself right so i'm busy today oh damn this was i was trying to go you know she can't participate in this right you're just using it for the hype she gets drafted april 15th the season starts right
Starting point is 00:08:59 knowing that contract says she can't play any other thing during the season. So, therefore, you just throw it out there because she has the hottest name in sports right now. So, it's just to get the big three name inside this machine right now. Knowing damn well everybody else get paid $5,000 to $12,000. You really think paying her fifty five million dollars She'll get clothesline before she walked in the arena Let's just be honest for one. They don't take it too personal There's way more feels than anything. She's ever imagined playing for one. It was too physical for me. Yeah I went to a big three most you ever seen right?
Starting point is 00:09:43 Yes, it's a step under prison balls. Right? You got prison ball, you got big three. Shout out to Jake Shelton's work. Especially the first few years. I would tell my partner, early MG, man, MG was talking, I'm like, could you imagine her getting stuck down on Reggie Evans? Just take for shits and giggles if this was a real thing, if she was able to participate
Starting point is 00:10:04 and he put her out there. Could you imagine her being matched up and Reggie guarding her for one, for two of them, her being three on three. She can't hide nowhere. Guarding Reggie Evans out there, motherfucker. She don't score.
Starting point is 00:10:19 She ain't. No, she's not. You don't think she's going to score a point? No, she would not score. She would not score one, she's not. You don't think she's going to score a point? Hell no. No, she would not score. I think she would score. She would not score one. I think she would score. Lexi.
Starting point is 00:10:29 That's brute basketball. Lexi. I think she would score. It's three on three. She can't hide nowhere. How's she going to get the ball, Pat? She going to take the ball out? She going to take the ball out, then what?
Starting point is 00:10:37 They're going to pick her up right soon as that line comes. Soon as she takes it. Soon as she can try to cross that line. Boom, boom. What? And the game is done. It's done. Right? Because I'm telling you what's going to... I know. I mean, I only went to one game. I played it. Who what? It's done right
Starting point is 00:10:45 Cuz I'm 10 was good And I didn't he played in it y'all played in it nobody take the ball out y'all crazy Yo, Rashad, so Allen Iverson out there his fucking eyes lit up. Hell. Yeah beat that man. Oh that means like yeah I'm not gonna yeah Just think it's Hell yeah beat that man up that means like yeah, I'm not gonna yeah And and for this news to leak in the midst of her NCAA tournament her last NCAA tournament But that's hmm. How do we think the leak do we think Caitlin Clark's team things that make Hell, everybody offered her that. Absolutely not. I know Taylor Clark wakes up every morning and like, why am I involved in this? She wouldn't even do that to herself.
Starting point is 00:11:28 She wouldn't do that to herself. The whole league together, they don't make $5 million that year. Damn. All them players combined don't make $5 million. No. My thing is because I put a tweet out. Dudes walk away from this. Like I always do.
Starting point is 00:11:42 You know, I was monitoring your social media to see the reaction. The people coming at me, no one really came at me sideways. One, I'm not a hater. This has nothing to do with Kaitlyn Clark. If he offered this to any college player, it would have been like, why? But because he's offering her $5 million, that's a better business decision than the WNBA wanting her to come play at the WNBA and be locked in with the W. That's not a business decision for us. We're haters because we want her to be, we want her to come to the W where she will be celebrated and embraced and uplifted.
Starting point is 00:12:17 It's going to be like, nothing's going to be easy. It's going to be competitive, but we're waiting for her. So for us to get just constantly shit on, you can't even acknowledge the growth and how amazing the WNBA is doing because shit like this happens. You didn't even have to bring up the W. When is the W season over? October.
Starting point is 00:12:37 October. Kaitlyn, accept it. Accept it. You got eight games. Eight games, accept that $ million dollars and then into the W You're drafted Don't play you get drafted get the number one pick like hold on y'all. I'll be right back That that lead don't start to two months after, June, July. Eight games, get your $5 million. Man, they play once a week.
Starting point is 00:13:10 She can do fucking both. Yes, she can. I mean, that's what I'm saying. Put that shit in the big three cards. You want me to sign it, I got to be able to do both. It's that WNBA contract. It's our contract. I'll play for free.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Hey, I'm playing WNBA for free. You keep this little $80,000. You give it to somebody else on the team. And I come back regular season. That ain't no $5 million, dog.
Starting point is 00:13:30 If they wanted it to work, I feel like they would figure out a way to work. It's just... It's not. What I'm saying is that's the rest of it. She ain't going to make
Starting point is 00:13:37 $5 million playing in the WNBA. So take this little five right here, miss like 10 games of your regular season, and then go on on or she gonna make that Five off the court. Yeah, sure. Yes, absolutely for them to give her only five million
Starting point is 00:13:51 Yeah, I can make more I can make five more. I think she works more than five To go do something like that five million in two weeks. She ain't worth five million in two weeks Nah, I mean two months now gonna get that five million in two months real quick. Yeah, call that bluff I'm calling that bluff I accept Shits and giggles only playing a game Hey guys a games. What does she don't like play a game? Your teammate gonna make it to the playoffs anyway. I mean she don't have to play
Starting point is 00:14:25 Yeah, she could just be there. She's a sub in wave Check that motherfuckers letter hit one three and sit down You're sitting at the four-point line. Yeah. Yeah, I just yeah, I just feel like you could have girl ball He could yeah, we didn't even talk about that But the girl ball force everybody yeah i mean i don't have a problem with him extending the deal because all that means is that the women's athletes are the moment right now which i think is amazing but he could have left the w and overseas out of it completely you want y'all to turn up same shit i would have did turn up y'all get all mad. Everybody get all mad.
Starting point is 00:15:06 That's the thing. Nobody's mad. Just, if you care about women's sports, care about women's sports. No one's mad. I think it's great. How many times have we talked about the men's tournament in the last two days? Yeah. We're going to 316.
Starting point is 00:15:22 We haven't even talked about it. So I'm like, who's mad? Nobody is mad. This is amazing. But if you are going to stand on supporting women's sports, stand on it. And he wrote that. That's what was in his statement. And I've said that, and people are like, well, that's not what he meant.
Starting point is 00:15:39 Well, that's what he said, and it's in writing. So if y'all just want to argue, argue with yourselves. That's what he said. Comprehension is probably at an all-time low, I feel like. Oh. People just want to argue, argue with yourselves. That's what he said. Comprehension is probably at an all-time low, I feel like. Oh, absolutely. People just want to argue. When the facts are put right in front of them, they want to ignore it because they just want to argue about something dumb.
Starting point is 00:15:53 They didn't have a game in Iowa. Shit, I have all the games in Iowa. Her team. Yeah, her team. All her games in Iowa. Let's get it. That ain't Indiana. Back in four.
Starting point is 00:16:04 Get this money, God damn it. Exactly. And if you can't look like you're taking that back Yeah, five mil. Hey, you said a games Right it's like what but what is this what is this five million is it five million Straight up is it five million overtime my check? Two million in stock in Big 3? Like, we don't know none of that. Give me my check.
Starting point is 00:16:28 We don't know anything. I need it all won. Does she got to score X amount of points to unlock it? Big face won. They know this. Whatever. He said $5 million. I want it up.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Ice Cube, I better see you at the Sweet 16 game this weekend. That's all I'm saying. You better be there. He may be clubbing, but. You better be there. If I'm him, I'll be there right there with the check. I had a real big check. All I know is he better...
Starting point is 00:16:53 Where are they at? Albany? He better be front and center in Albany this weekend watching her play. Of course, it's publicity. Why wouldn't he? That's the move. With the big...
Starting point is 00:17:05 This is all publicity. Hey, my... Hey. The super big check right there on the front row. But so many way home out this Ice Cube. I mean, shit. You know, shit. So we asked our chat... She ain't accepting that, so...
Starting point is 00:17:13 We asked the chat, should Caitlyn Clark take the big three offer? 75% said yes. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. See? Yeah, but... I need all my money. You can offer me five million right now.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I'm for eight games. You gonna try. What? I'll be out there working out, living. Knowing damn well I ain't my money. You can offer me five million right now. But eight games. You can go try. What? I'll be out there working out, living, knowing damn well I ain't going to score. Crazy. But the content getting ready, though.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Oh, yeah. My content going to be fire. That's the result. That's going to sell right there. Hey, the results. My bad. All right, well, let's keep this thing moving. Agent 12 for a reason Content fire. I think that's the first time I heard you acknowledge yourself as Agent 12 Gilad. That's a beautiful moment I forgot about that. For those who weren't at the first ever Gil's Arena shootout presented by Underdog Fantasy
Starting point is 00:17:57 I call myself Agent 12. I said my new name Agent 12. Okay, you rolling with it? Saucy 12? Saucy 12. You got a play nickname. Saucy 12. You got a play nicknames. Saucy 12. You got plenty of nicknames. Please don't, don't. No, no, no. No, no, no, no. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:10 One of those days. Let's keep it going. Hey, check. Hey, check. Give me nicknames, man. I got to use them. Good nicknames. Good nicknames.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Good. So last night was great for some, not so great for others. So let's get into some hibachi time. We know why you all pulled up to the show today Where should we start? In the basement Put on all Lakers stuff too Lakers put up in Milwaukee for the first game of a six game road trip and with LeBron's sideline with a lingering
Starting point is 00:18:56 ankle injury, AD, Austin Reeves, and D-Lo put the purple and gold on their back so down 19 with less than eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Lakers could have thrown on the towel, but they said nay. This is the Bucs. Doc Rivers is
Starting point is 00:19:12 coaching. Let's go ahead and get one of the biggest wins of the season. You see it. Anthony Davis came through with one of his best performances on both ends of the floor. He had 34 points, 23 rebounds, four blocks in 52 minutes, which is the most by Lakers since Kobe did it in 2012.
Starting point is 00:19:29 You see Austin Reeves. He messed around and dropped his second career triple-double, 29-14-10. AD coming up with big defensive plays like that to keep the game alive. And Austin Reeves, big go-ahead three. Leighton's second overtime. And we got to show D'Lo some love, too.
Starting point is 00:19:47 He had a 44-piece on the Bucs in L.A. He followed that up with 29-12 dimes and seven rebounds. So Giannis had a good game, too. He had 29-21 rebounds, 11 assists. But he was one for six from the foul line, including two misses, with 24 seconds remaining in the second OT with the Bucs down three. You may have seen LeBron on the sideline giving him the count. Dame at 27.
Starting point is 00:20:09 He was 9 for 29. Jesus. 4 for 14 in the fourth quarter in the overtimes combined. Lakers have their longest winning streak of the season at a staggering four games. One, two, three, four. Oh, that's what I'm saying. Ain't too late.
Starting point is 00:20:27 I think motherfuckers finna say like 11. 11 minus seven. It can turn into 11. Y'all finna go one and five. Roll the trip. Four powerful games. Okay. Hey.
Starting point is 00:20:37 Completely reshaped the outlook of the season. It's like one and five. Who's their next games? Memphis? They got the Grizzlies. They got the Grizzlies. They got the Grizzlies. They got the Grizzlies. They got the Grizzlies. They got the Grizzlies. They got the Grizzaped the outlook of the season. It's like, what if I...
Starting point is 00:20:47 Who's their next games? Memphis? They got the Grizzlies tonight. But Gil, what statement do the Lakers make with this win over the Bucs in Milwaukee without Brown? They're going to lose tonight. I mean, there's no statement. Did they lose? We're clicking.
Starting point is 00:21:02 A double overtime. I feel we're playing chess, right? We know that That we we have games to win right now to Solidify us and what we're trying to do. So, you know, we just go ahead Check off these dummies. I didn't move on to the next city who we got next Grizzlies of Memphis Smack daddy. No, no, you're on sit it. No, that's the night Braun sit it. Oh, they're gonna sit. You know, we might sit ad today Braun. Come on
Starting point is 00:21:34 We don't even matter. You know, I mean losing I know Hungry Grizzlies, too. You're gonna lose the Memphis tonight We own them better shot. Come shot. Them are daddies. Better shot. Okay, bet. Better shot. You're going to lose to the Grizzlies? Y'all going to lose to the Grizzlies.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Hey, yo, the Lakers don't look different without Bron. Hey, they're going to lose tonight. So they look... I know, you got to close up on it. Mr. B, you were in more. I'm just saying, they look... It looked like it should be AD's team. It should be, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:01 I'm hearing now, like, they should be running everything to AD. From what I've seen last night... From what I've seen last night... But that's the thing. It should be yeah, I'm here now like I said be running everything to ad Bronner What I seen last night, but that's the that's the thing it So if Anthony Davis play tonight if he don't perform if he don't have nothing near what he did last night then what? Will LeBron on the court? No without tonight, then we will attribute that to the 52 minutes. He played last Nobody ain't nobody in grids and stop anyway. It stop him anyway. 12 for 30. There ain't nobody. He can still get a double-double tonight. Huh?
Starting point is 00:22:27 Double-double. Easy double. Yeah, it's easy. It's an easy game today. For him? It should be a big game though, right? Mr. B, you were on the ground in Milwaukee. Could have been if he didn't play 52 minutes last night.
Starting point is 00:22:39 52 minutes? Yeah. Overtime. Double overtime. I know, but it's... Should happen. Playoff push. Yo, Overtime. Double overtime. I know, but. Should happen. Playoff push. Yo, let me stop.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Hey, go ahead. He did all that shit, had one foul. He played 52 minutes, had one foul. He ain't got Lopez. What the fuck he going to do? So he didn't play no minutes on Giannis? Who, AD? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:00 He did what he needed to do. No way he did if he finished the game with one foul. Stellar defense. Giannis only got six free throws. That was weird. That's weird. Like only six free throws. I know he getting fouled. Not a quarter of a fifth.
Starting point is 00:23:14 I mean, Boston just lost like that too. Boston just lost like that too to Atlanta, so it happens. Brandon, you were at the game. What were the sentiments and emotions like in Milwaukee? We were stunned a little bit. Stunned? A little stunning. Yeah, I mean, I've seen your face.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Yeah, we were stunned. I mean, it just happened to Boston, though, right? Didn't Boston just lose to Atlanta at home? They was up 30. Boston 10 and a half games. They was up 32. Best team in the NBA right now. So, you know, it happens.
Starting point is 00:23:40 We seem pretty in person. But, you know, I'm glad it happened now until later. We'll be all right, though. What happened now, then later? Like, I'm glad we, you know i'm glad it happened now until later we'll be all right though what happened now then later like i'm glad we you know this happened like we got our ass beat like that like you've been y'all getting your ass beat for the last two months no we have no we have not no we have not y'all are 14 and 12 in the last two months we're still in second place. I mean, we're comfortable in second. Y'all should be in second place. Shit, y'all had damn near... What? Y'all had a 17 game...
Starting point is 00:24:11 Yeah, I mean, I'm saying, like, we're fine where we're at. But last night, that happens. It just happened in Boston. Alright. Mmm. Mmm. Portland. Fear the Deer. Mmm.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Like my cut? I do. I collapse. That's the fear the deer? Uh-huh. Oh, you see my hair. I don't think nobody... But you got cups? Yeah, I got cups.
Starting point is 00:24:32 I don't think nobody fear the deer, but I love that cup, though. See my hat I had on yesterday on the show? No. Oh, mean. Oh, he had a mean hat. Mean. Kind of the same color. Mean.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Oh, yeah, it was red. It was red and black. Yeah. Yeah. Ooh, fire. Ken, you do have a Grizzlies hat that you could throw on right now to keep the streak going. You thinking what I'm thinking? Give him a Grizzlies hat. Give him a Grizzlies hat.
Starting point is 00:24:50 Take that L. It wasn't because I was cheering for the Bucs, but it was a me, it was a five. It was coordination. Y'all gonna lose tonight, though. It was coordination. Listen, fuck all that shit, you're gonna lose tonight.
Starting point is 00:25:00 I'm gonna tell y'all, bro. You're gonna lose at Memphis tonight, I'm gonna tell you right now. Five and one, six and a four, and two, worst case scenario. on this road trip. Yeah, well, it's gonna be one and one tonight So the Lakers are really good without bro. Yeah, they're really good without LeBron Very more quiet there six. I mean I'm saying like they play with more like it's just like two people Reeves no, he plays no matter what. It's D-Lo and A.D. Oh, I thought Rui played okay, too. D-Lo and A.D. play a little bit better without him.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Because now it's you two. So it's like D-Lo understands that everything really goes through him when Braun is out. So he don't have to worry about looking over, seeing what he's doing, seeing if he's doing one of these. Like, doing one of these. He just knows he can come off. You know, and AD ain't going to be yelling nothing. So, you know. So, Brandon, as you pointed out, Lakers are six and four this season without LeBron, including a season sweep of the Bucs and a win over the Celtics in Boston.
Starting point is 00:25:57 How much time? Say that again? They swept. Oh, I remember that game. They swept Bucs. And then they beat the Celtics. When they beat Boston. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Without LeBron. I know. Without LeBron. You're a Celtic fan. You remember that. Six and four. Remember that. Was it good game? Was it good game. They swept Bucs. And then they beat the Celtics. When they beat Boston. Yeah. Without Bucs. I know. Whatever. You're a Celtic fan. You remember that. Six and four. Remember that. Was it good games?
Starting point is 00:26:08 Was it Washington? No, six and four. Lakers are six and four without Bucs. But they beat all the good teams. The Lakers are big, though, bro. Like, up close. They're big, bro. No, seriously.
Starting point is 00:26:16 No, 16, yeah. Seriously, I was like, yo, they all right. Like, they not... It might get scary, man. They catch somebody first round. And what does it say about just LeBron's leadership, trusting his team, year 21? If your 40-year-old man say, you know what, I need to instill confidence in all of y'all, because I'm good.
Starting point is 00:26:34 You're not even going, it's just the Bucks. It's just Milwaukee. It's Giannis and Dame, y'all good. Go ahead. Go ahead and get your confidence up, because my confidence will be where it needs to be. Hey, did you see your dad tweet? Yeah, that was funny. They were going to his car. They had him in the picture in the background behind the Lakers. The bench and he was like, I'm not a good look on it. I'm going to my car.
Starting point is 00:26:57 You know, shout out to Josiah's father, Marcus Jones. Now, how much confidence did the Lakers have knowing they can do this now without Brown on the floor None because they are gonna have Brown on the floor. Yes But they can elevate no they need a play like that would I'm gonna be on the floor. She's like, pow. Yeah, yeah. Pull! Pow! She got them quick this year. Yeah, Lexi. Come back. It didn't even come out the motherfucking machine good.
Starting point is 00:27:29 She pull, pow. I was just like, Ron is gonna be on the court. So they gotta figure it out, because they are a talented team. Dick Cheney, very talented. I got it. Now, they are talented. That AD and D-Lo. That's a lot of heat on the couch right now.
Starting point is 00:27:46 I'm just saying. That AD and D-Lo is all right, man. Seriously. So, we'll see, though. Go stand in the corner where Bron come back. Hmm? Go stand in the corner where Bron come back. Everybody involved.
Starting point is 00:28:02 Yeah. Go stand right there. But that's the problem with the Bucs, though. You know, I don't know if I said it like two weeks ago when I said, oh, it was when Giannis was out, and I said the way Dame has played, he plays well with, you know, Middleton came back and Lopez. Those three play well because they're just pick-and-pop guys. Giannis plays well with
Starting point is 00:28:29 Portis and Beasley. So depending on who's playing well, who has the ball, depending on who you're shutting out, I don't think they know, all six know how to play well together. So if Giannis is playing well and he has the ball, those passes that he's looking for is going to Beasley and Portis.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Dame's passes is going to Lopez. That's when you need a true point guard. I think the Bucs are missing a true point guard. Like somebody that can just facilitate and get guys. Because there's a lot of talent on the floor. And Dame's not really like a passer like that. So you need like a... That's why Drew was so good there, though, to me.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Because he didn't have to score. Yeah, but it's one of those things where as a coach, you have to recognize that there's bloods and crips going on in this goddamn group because he only wanted to pass it to him and him. He only wanted to pass it to him and him. He only want to pass it to him and him. And if he has the ball, these two are pointless now. If he has the ball, those two are pointless. They got to figure out how to blend it in
Starting point is 00:29:35 and make some plays where it's a little mixed up. Because right now, you can see there's two different teams. There's Dame's team when he has the ball, and there's Giannis' team when he has the ball. They need that truce of nine deuce. Like, you remember I wrote it on the thing without even looking. It was like, oh, Giannis playing well, so that means Porter, Portis, and Beasley is probably getting the ball too.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Middleton, they play, Giannis and Middleton play well together. Back then. Back then. I mean, also been hurt. Yeah, that's what I said. So they haven't Easily and kicked in for Middleton So he knows and when he's driving he knows where he's at that corner right corner boom Oh, yeah, Pat Bev was hurt last night too. Yeah about that. Well, that would have never happened with that be on the court. Mm-hmm Forgot about that man. I forgot about that. What did Pat? Yeah, Pat was on the court. have never happened with Pat Bev on the court. I forgot about that, man. I forgot about that. Wait, did Pat?
Starting point is 00:30:26 Yeah, if Pat was on the court, that would never happen. But you know Doc is coaching, right? I know. I know who's coaching. I know who's coaching. I know who's going to be out there. Who would have been out there. We're going to talk about the Bucs a little bit more in a second.
Starting point is 00:30:40 Lakers have 10 games remaining on the schedule. Let's show what they got left. What's this Lakers shit man Bob we got that America's team Brandon Five wins Cavs That Cavs T-Wolves and Warriors
Starting point is 00:30:58 Them last two road games Them last They might go five and five Ooh We're about to win the first five games. That last from... It might go five and five. We're about to win the first five. First of all, y'all not beating the Pacers. And then y'all going to lose to one of them Nets.
Starting point is 00:31:13 You know why we're going to beat the Pacers? Because young fella still has that bad hamstring, but he's only been playing so he can activate that 65 games. Have you noticed since Halle, when he made them comments about this is messed up, this is fucked up, and he came back, he ain't been playing the same.
Starting point is 00:31:34 Shooting has been down a little bit. Shooting has been down. Same thing with pass and all that. It's been down. He can't run the same. Yeah, he's hurt. He's definitely still hurt. But he wanted them 65 games.
Starting point is 00:31:44 But you said that. But you said that, though. You said he's going to force himself to play. He's going to fuck himself up. Because he's a free agent, right? No, he can get that. He already signed that max, but I think he can hit that, activate the super dupe. Activate the super dupe, right. Yeah, but you said that. You said he's going to try to force himself. I play good at abstract too. I think everybody on this couch, I don't give.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Yeah, I mean... I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. So, Lex, you said five and five good. What's a realistic target? Eight and two. Okay, reasonable. Last ten games, eight and two.
Starting point is 00:32:13 You're only losing two. This nigga a homer. Seven and three worse. Fucking homer, boy. Seven and three to work. Look at our games. Yeah, look at them. Seven and three?
Starting point is 00:32:22 Yeah. Look at them. Eight and two. Look at them. Grizzlies, come on, man. Pacers, Hurd, Nets, really. Raptors, trash. Wizards, really. So worst case scenario,
Starting point is 00:32:32 you can only give us one loss, realistically. And then Cavs, Timberwolves, Warriors. You got a back-to-back tonight. You got another back-to-back, and then another back-to-back. They're not winning all-to-back and then another back-to-back they go. They're not winning Oh, yeah, we're the best of rappers and the Wizards
Starting point is 00:32:49 We might on the Wizards. We might say wrong. We might sit LeBron and 80 against them. Then y'all can't afford to sit Nobody we might exactly I don't know why he talked. I don't know why you're talking like that No, that's got you know, why you told me is this come on and at home? Okay at home. At home. You all on the road. You all on the road. Yeah. Against a weak team.
Starting point is 00:33:10 You got three home games. The NBA did us good. Listen, them Wizards and them Raptors, they're going to run into some cats that ain't played all year. That's what you're doing. Hey, hey, hey. Crazy. The NBA scheduled us very well.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Let's just say it favored us at the end of the season. Oh, now they favored you. Oh, they favored us at the end of the season. Oh, now they favored you. Oh, they favored us at the end of the season. Oh, now they favored you. You remember what was the whole different story at the beginning of the season? You remember what was good? Why we got to play Denver first? Why we got to play Denver?
Starting point is 00:33:35 But now we got it back at the end. We got it back at the end. And then the Grizzlies and the Pelicans, shit, they might have shut it down by then. We know the Grizzlies are going to shut it down. They're going to beat y'all tonight. They hold. Whoever's on this team, they done shipped. You already know.
Starting point is 00:33:51 They shipped. They shipped. They done. And they're going to beat y'all tonight, though. Nah. And then Pelicans, depending on where they already might sit, Zion and Ingram. You doing a whole lot of wishful thinking over there, bitch, boy. Seven and three, worst case scenario.
Starting point is 00:34:04 Just strategizing. Seven and three worst case scenario. Just strategizing. Seven and three? Worst case. Those ten games. Y'all got seven road games and three home games. Yeah. Technically every game is a home game for the Lakers. They travel very well.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Okay. Thank you, kid. American scene. No, no, no. That's a fact. There's a lot of Laker fans in there. There's a lot of Laker fans, huh? A lot of Laker fans.
Starting point is 00:34:23 Oh, you know, Milwaukee. Every corner of the universe. I used to hate when Cole came to town. I'm like, ah, damn, dog. This is... That's fire, though. Ten home games. No, I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Obie used to have all the agents coming out. Okay, that's not too far from five and five. No, that's very far from five and five. Not desirable. 70% versus 50, that's very different. I mean... Let's switch it up, talk about the Bucs Been up and down
Starting point is 00:34:48 During Doc Rivers' tenure When you look at this game last night Who deserves the blame for the Bucs loss? Gilbert Gilbert Same person who I've been blaming For the last Two months
Starting point is 00:35:04 I think the team. I mean, they let their foot off the gas. You know, up 20 at home with no LeBron. You should have put him to bed, but you let your foot off the gas, and you gave him confidence. Because at the end of the day, it's still NBA players,
Starting point is 00:35:15 regardless if LeBron's out there or not. But, you know, you got D-Lo that's been playing well. You know, Austin Reeves that plays the same all the time. Hey, how was they subbing when they was up 20? All right. How was his subbing when they was up 20? Huh? How was their subbing when they were up 20, huh? I had left. So, really, that's not really a loss for me.
Starting point is 00:35:34 So, because I had left. I thought the game was over. Thought it was over, huh? Yeah. I mean, they was up 20 at the third. Listen, man. Maybe they would have won if you stayed. Ain't nothing changed, man.
Starting point is 00:35:45 I said it was a bad job getting that job because you hadn't. There was no upside to getting the Bucs job, right? You can only go down. The team was 30 and 13 before they got to you. So there was no upside for Doc here only downside now you're coming in the middle of the season right even though you've been consulting but you're coming in the middle of the season then you're gonna try to do what change make it a defensive squad versus an offensive squad because before they were heavy
Starting point is 00:36:22 offensively right averaging 24 game giving up 119 and then the narrative oh doc is bringing defense no he's he he sacrificed his offense to make it look like he had better defense so he went down to 3 15 3 16 but his offense went from 124 to 119 so he didn't do shit but just slowed the ball down As you can see they still can't play any defense So you're just tricking the algorithm and you just fool's gold that you put some type of defensive strategy into it and how when it's You played two three four games then with the all-star break and you come back as the defensive guru, shut the fuck up. That works for them ESPN dummies.
Starting point is 00:37:08 All I do is just look at the right shit and realize you're just slowing the ball down so the other teams get less possessions. So it looks like you're playing defense, but you're still giving up. You're still scoring at the same rate that they were before, even higher. So actually, you're a worse team than they were before. That's why you're a worse team than they were before that's why you're 14 and 12 so like one more loss mm-hmm they're tied with a Griffin when he got there but he needs 16 more goddamn wins so the Bucks should have just stayed with Griffin yes yes yeah and then your problem with the Bucks is just Doc Rivers?
Starting point is 00:37:47 Yes. My problem, my personal problem with Doc? Yeah. My personal problem. Because of the All-Star. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He should have voted for me All-Star. No, that's...
Starting point is 00:37:58 Some beefs are eternal. Yeah, he should have voted for me All-Star. I haven't seen that nigga fruit basket. And he still voted for them pistons. What kind of fruits were in the basket, though? It was very important. The ones that was in season. Seasonal fruit?
Starting point is 00:38:12 But for real, I pay attention to the coaching style, how he subs, and him adjusting. And I was like, this is a dumb decision. You should have just waited until the end of the season. So we talked about that free time duo there was a lot of hype surrounding the move when the trade happened The Greek freak and Dame time yes, yeah, is that free Nick? No
Starting point is 00:38:43 No, I heard about it to I thought I heard him. I thought you said something like that. No, I heard him. I just wanted to make sure I heard him correctly. Freak time. Freak time. Freak time. You know, A-O as the kids would say. Freak time. Freak time. Were the expectations too unrealistic for that pairing,
Starting point is 00:38:57 and why are they struggling to mesh together still, Brandon, this late into the season? I mean, like you guys said, I think it's the coaching changes. And then, you know, it's the first year, so you got to get used to playing with each other. I mean, thank God they're in the second spot though. Like they still going to make the playoffs, so you know they'll still get the playoff experience
Starting point is 00:39:15 and let's see what happens then. But probably, you know, the coaching change is kind of, like you guys keep saying, like in the mid of the season when you're already winning, It's kind of tough. So I think that's probably what it is. Still trying to figure out each other. Guy's been hurt. You know, Chris Middleton, we just got Patrick Beverly.
Starting point is 00:39:35 So, you know, it's all a type of new faces and stuff. So as you mentioned, Bucs are in the second spot in the East right now. The team currently occupying the seventh spot, Miami Heat. And they've been having our numbers. That concerning at all. Seems like, you know, one of the few teams you don't want to see. It was concerning when Doc got the job, dog. That shit ain't concerning, man.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Fucking Giannis went healthy. They would have beat the shit out of them. They would have swept them boys last year if Giannis was healthy. Let's stop it, man. God damn. Like, them motherfuckers ain't worried about the Miami Heat, man. Who ain't? The Bucs. They ain't not worried about Miami Heat. They should be worried about Doc.
Starting point is 00:40:12 People can say, hey, man, you hating and stuff. Am I wrong? I said it from the beginning. First one to say this is going to be a tragedy. 14 and 12. Yeah, they should. 14 and 12. That's his 14 and 12. 5 and 5 last 10 games.
Starting point is 00:40:27 I can't fight that. That's the fact. That's the fact. I can't fight that. Before he started any game, I said, this is about to be a tragedy right here. Because I already know. He's never had a game before. So he don't even know how to use that type of player.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Every guard he has is pass first, pass first point guards. Majority of the point, they can't stretch the floor anyway, right? So he don't know this type of offense, right? That's not, has been his style. Well, yeah, James, well, I mean, yeah. See how that worked out. No, no, no, I mean. Right, so it was, I know his track record.
Starting point is 00:41:10 I'm going to throw a little bit of sauce on it, but I know he's going to fail so the extra sauce makes me look better. The extra sauce makes me look better. The fact that Miami Heat, if they face Miami Heat, Spro will change his defensive coverages and his offensive coverages game to game. If Doc wins first game, every game going forward is going to be the same.
Starting point is 00:41:37 We'll see. You know what I mean? I got to see this. Right, left, right, left. That's it. You can block him, block him, block him. He ain't going to go left, right, not one time. It's going to be the same Right you can block and block and block up. He ain't gonna go left right not one time There's gonna be the same step figure your ass is gonna change up. I don't need to
Starting point is 00:41:52 Right All right, I mean help I mean healthy though with Dame I mean, you know, we got the talent though. I think the talent would overdo it though I guess like our talents should be able to 30 get past scene Miami and 30 and 13 you, you was playing well. Playing well. Everything, for the most part, even though Dame wasn't Damon, you were 30 and 13 and people were still talking about your defense.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Where's the noise now about the defense? Where's the noise from all the people who was trying to get Griffin out of there? Right, it was a big, oh they're not playing defense, they're not playing defense, this and that. It's like what they playing a lot of offense though. They playing a lot of fucking offense. This team is better than it was last year because the point spread versus the defense. So where is that now when this team is struggling on both sides of the field? So, basically, they were trying to get him the fuck out of there for some reason.
Starting point is 00:42:53 I mean, the 12 and 14, I mean. Huh? 14 and 12. I mean, it's the first. 14 and 12, I mean. But if you are going to make a move, right, and you don't want Adrian there for whatever reason, why not just let? Was it Purdy who took over Joe Prunty Joe Prunty? Yeah, that's been there before too. Why not just let him take over, right? Yeah, I'm gonna say in there. It's the same terminology. Yeah
Starting point is 00:43:16 And this is what they understand it already. They're not bringing a new voice in there Like it ain't always greener. I guess the point is why even, if you're going to do that, why even get rid of Adrian Griffin in the first place? In the first, yeah. Just work through it. Yeah, just work through it if you can. But if you want to, if it's a personality thing, right?
Starting point is 00:43:41 You bring somebody that's in the business same same terminology, but it's a dick Mm-hmm. They can go to him be like listen. This was the problem with Adrian Your opportunity mm-hmm, right And I think them guys would have received that a Little better than come with a whole different scheme a whole different voice voice, a whole... Like, that shit tough. People don't realize... In the middle of the season, when you... You play on a team for three years
Starting point is 00:44:11 under a certain system, you get a coach in in the summer, and he come in a training camp with some different plays and shit. That's hard. Bro, that was like when we had Stan Van Gundy. Yeah, that's hard. That was a whole culture shock. Like, that shit went when we had Stan Van Gundy. Yeah, that's hard. Detroit. Hold on. That was a whole culture shock.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Like, that shit went from cool to everyday detail. Like, God damn. Yeah, you'd be sitting there like, yo, what play is this? You still running the old plays, the plays you've been doing for the last three years? He done switched the playbook, and you got a... I said black. Well, God damn it, I did black. Now that's my red. Oh, ass what you just want you just name this shit that we already know
Starting point is 00:44:52 so Brady you mentioned that the Bucks without Pat Bev in their game last night we got a little news report he has a torn ligament in his right wrist who's still deciding if he can play through it because surgery would cause him to miss three to four months his right wrist. Yeah See there we go. That's that shit. I'll be talking about injuries off my wrist Yeah, so torn ligament in his right wrist. He's still deciding if he can play through it Yeah, right you can cast it up right I mean shit, I mean just get out there. I mean I know It'd be it'd be a dead man walking on the court man
Starting point is 00:45:27 They can't even know that's something like that They came in afford to put him out there because if we know he can't shoot he put a cask on that mother What you think we're gonna do now, right? Even hit it didn't even hit Guard him He's the decoy now now. We literally plan for on five Even if he decide to take ten shots, which he won't guard him. He's a D-court now. Now we literally playing four on five. Right, right, right. Even if he decides to take ten shots,
Starting point is 00:45:48 which he won't. So how long is that? So he might play through it, but if he decides to get the surgery, it's three to four months. And we talked about the potential Bucs heat matchup. So the Bucs need to play each other three times this season. Bucs won the first two games with Adrian Griffin as head coach. Lost the third
Starting point is 00:46:05 with Doc. He did not have Jimmy Butler. Add fuel to it. If he sounded good and then it go to you know, but then The first two games, Adrian Griffin next. This is coming from one of our producers who is a long time Bucs fan.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Not for real. That's why I don't know why Bucs fans be is a long-time Bucs fan. Not for real. I felt the pain in his. That's why I don't know why Bucs fans be mad. The producers are Bucs fans. Yeah, yeah, right. We got a Bucs fan, we got a Knicks fan. We got, you know. All East Coast back there.
Starting point is 00:46:38 He said, facts cut deep. So, last question on this subject, but Mr. B, how much faith do you have in the Bucs to make a run in this playoff? Still Bucs at six? Yeah, no, we're still going to make a run. Okay. We definitely got the first round, second round. We're going to see Boston. Without Pat?
Starting point is 00:46:54 We got to see. He might play through it. Even if he played through it? Come on, man. I mean, listen. It's not his left hand. It's his right hand. I mean, what can he do right now for treatment right now?
Starting point is 00:47:05 Like until the playoffs are torn nothing nothing that needle Can't take a shot you put a quarter zone in there, but yeah, I ain't gonna feel nothing everywhere else Right now we got a sacrifice But every game though, you know, we got a sacrifice right now That's every game right a quarter zone shot every day, right? Okay, so no quarters. Oh, no No, it all toward all toward all toward all Cortisol what that wears off so yeah, so we'll move the time though. What would you take for this one total? I mean if you had to you this was football You can't ice it nothing?
Starting point is 00:47:45 You can't ice nothing? Yeah so yeah if this was like the playoffs or like the finals he'd be taking Toradol shots.
Starting point is 00:47:53 And hopefully we do get that Bucks Heat matchup Underdog please send this to the Heat games so we can do some expert
Starting point is 00:47:59 diligent research. I mean you get too juiced up you won't even feel your shot though. Damn that Tor tour though. Yeah Your stomach up too? What? Bad
Starting point is 00:48:13 Let's keep things moving a few weeks. I still got bucks getting to the Eastern Conference finals. My bad They are my Eastern Conference team obviously Family Allegiance. That's in Boston. Gray City. You laugh at him and they in second? That's the Boston great city. You laugh at him and then second us in Boston Huh? Huh? His like the team won't even be With this shit really hit the man I'm laughing at a team who's 14 and 12 We still a second since doc has come what what place are y'all in since doc got there last place? I bet you see y'all over there. I bet you y'all be out before us when Detroit when Detroit when Detroit, uh Not in front of Detroit there in front of Wizards. They might be they might be
Starting point is 00:48:57 right behind Charlotte in the last In the last last 26 games. That's fine. Brandon, you said... I'm not talking about the Bucs when Adrian... See, y'all using the whole totality of it. We is. It's the whole season. I'm talking about the last 26 games of the season. The last 26 games.
Starting point is 00:49:16 He been coached. Where y'all ranking at? Yeah. So last 26 games, we are 14 and 12. 12. Brandon, you said Eastern Conference Finals that you think the Bucs can reach there. Can they. Brandon, you said Eastern Conference Finals, that you think the Bucs can reach there. Can they win that series in the Eastern Conference Finals?
Starting point is 00:49:29 Beat Boston? Yeah. 2-7. Okay. 2-7. A little leprechaun. So yeah, they'll play Miami, and then if they win that game, they'll play Cleveland or Indiana.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Mm. From commutes that become learning sessions to dishwashing filled with laughs, podcasts can help you make the most out of your everyday. Starting point is 00:50:10 He won't smoke. You know, he can get through it. I mean, they can get through the Eastern Conference. They were just trying to nap, take a good nap. I'm glad you came to your sister's. I'm glad a little hard. Well, yeah, like... Miami.
Starting point is 00:50:23 I can still put you all over Miami, then. 3-6, that's hard. Oh, yeah. Like Miami. I can still put y'all over Miami then. Three, six. That's Indiana. Miami in six. Cleveland. Indiana in six. Yeah. Everything will be in six.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I can see it. I can see it. Then Boston in six. Yeah. No, they're not. Okay. I'm just. We'll relax.
Starting point is 00:50:37 You see, I came to. We're going six. We're going. You see, I came to my senses. Like, okay, y'all can get to the Eastern Conference finals. But that's it. All right. All right, well, let's keep things moving. A few weeks ago, the Mavs looked like they were in danger of missing the playoffs for the second straight season.
Starting point is 00:50:52 But the dynamic duo of Luka and Kyrie has them stacking wins at the right time. So, on Tuesday, they were at the Kings. Luka put up 28, 11 boards, 6 dimes. Some extremely consistent bucket getting. Kyrie did his thing as well. 25 points and 8 dimes in the block win. Mavs have won 5 straight
Starting point is 00:51:14 and 9 of their last 10. Jumped out of the play-in to the 6th seed. To the 6th seed with the win. Yeah, from the jab step. From the jab, from the Jets there. Come and get some of that from the jab from the first jab step He had How he has a bag
Starting point is 00:51:33 People don't realize like how tall Luca is the how come he keep getting a shot off because he's Give me Kyrie at 24 and 8 in the wind, but the Mavs jumped to the 60 And after the game Luca at high praise for Kyrie and what and 8 in the win. But the Mavs jumped to the sixth seed. But after the game, Luka had high praise for Kyrie, and Woody is brought to the Mavs squad. What's that chemistry been like between you two superheroes on this team? He's the best, and I'm the rubbish. No, it's just amazing, man. Having him on our team is amazing, man.
Starting point is 00:52:01 But that's our basketball. He's just a great person, and we all get along so well. So it's just the chemistry is really good right now. He's the best man. I'm the robin. There's a lot of capital going on around. I feel like Dallas don't care who they meet up with in the playoffs, the way they're going right now.
Starting point is 00:52:18 So are Luka and Kyrie the most dynamic backcourt going into these playoffs? Yeah. Yeah. I'll stay there. I mean, what about Phoenix? Man, stop. No. Katie's frontcourt.
Starting point is 00:52:39 My bad, my bad. So yeah, you're right. You're right, Dallas. Come on, bad. No. So, yeah. You're right. You're right. Dallas. Yeah, Dallas. Come on, man. Representative. Man, one too many. Kyrie fan. You've been very... I've spoken about Kyrie this season. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:56 And still doing it. And respectful. I'm just saying. Oh, that Cleveland backcourt is cool, too. I mean, they're cool. Who, Jaren Garland? Donovan and Harris. Donovan. They're cool. Who, Jarrett Garland? Donovan and Harris. They cool. Yeah, but Jarrett Garland can't stay healthy. I know he can't.
Starting point is 00:53:10 That's the only thing. He's nice though. I know why you said that. They cool. They not them. Spider-Dill has knee issues as well. They cool. Everything they went through. All the heat they took last season. Kyrie agreeing to come back this season. All the heat who took? Kyrie? No, just that this season now all the heat who took I really know just that Kyrie said yeah, I mean if I were to take a lot. I mean just Kyrie took that heat out and We got oh man. It was winning before he got here. Oh my he bringing all this energy over here
Starting point is 00:53:35 He over here in the locker room. Yeah, yeah My eating and there he is just blaming shit. This is Blake. How that gotta do anything Yeah, he ain't talking to the team You know what they're doing little shit around the locker room Sagey sagey crystals and stuff like what they got to do it They got nothing to do with nothing. He lives in Iraq. I would like to see this niggas locker I would love to see this muffles like a little like a boo like the do from a major league You remember bad boys when he went into the Jamaican
Starting point is 00:54:26 Skulls and beads and fucking smoke and shit coming out of his locker. He burned sage and shit. Listen. When you say this, Kyrie... He got his own chair. He got a special chair in his locker. Made of straw and shit. What's so funny is he is the type that is... He has sage in his locker every single time he gets in it. 100%. Gotta get them best beers out.
Starting point is 00:54:43 I don't know who's setting this motherfucker, but we gonna... Just in case. Get on out of here. I don't know who's setting this motherfucker, but we go just in case you don't out of here As a team I say say you put the Kyrie and Luca ahead of the heart and PG Yeah, right now. Yeah. Yeah right now now. Yeah. Yeah fat. I still eat I mean if If clay somehow turns it around you can put them back in there, but it's still going to be, it's a far first place compared to everybody else. Yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure.
Starting point is 00:55:14 So Mavs are currently sixth in the league in offensive rating, 21st in defensive rating. How can they work around their defensive issue? Here you go. See? That right there, that's what fuck bucks up Right. It was second in office offensive reading like 19th in defense. You see what they ask is that now? 14 and 12 try to work on a defense keep doing you dark dog
Starting point is 00:55:39 Keep doing you dog. Don't worry about that defensive rate bullshit. He's talking about Hey Keep doing you, dog. Don't worry about that defensive rate bullshit they keep talking about. All right? Don't do that. I've never seen a game won with a score of 0-0. I'll just say that. You got to get some buckets. You got to score some points. Yeah, what place is Dallas in?
Starting point is 00:55:54 They're sixth right now. And who's in fifth? Fifth is the Clippers, I believe. No, Pelicans. Pelicans and Clippers, 4-5. So they would play three. Three is? The Timber three three is the timberwolves currently
Starting point is 00:56:08 That would be yeah, I can see that was getting them right here Yeah, I mean a small ball fucks up Rudy My eyes Rudy. Yeah, you have to sit like my I can see that out to cat out too So cat can't go to the fire That's what I can see that she in my potting. He's up for the season. He's trying to make it come to do it Man listen But that's a perfect tip but that's I'm going right at that leg Team for the Clippers and and
Starting point is 00:56:40 Dallas Dallas cuz they play small ball since Dallas. Dallas. Because they play small ball. Since Rudy is their big, now Nas Rees had to play the five. So you take Rudy, you take that defense out. Well, I mean, Nas has been playing the five. He's not the defensive player. But he's not the defensive player. Rudy is. But he still can hold his own.
Starting point is 00:56:56 Yeah, but he gets bucket. It changed the dynamics. It did, yeah. To Gil's point. Because you lose two all-stars. Yeah, they got to guard Nas, too, though. I'm saying out there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:04 Yeah. But it's more, they care about the defense. No, for sure, for sure. We ain't got to worry about the shot blocker down there. Mm-hmm. So you think that's a favorable matchup for them? So shouldn't worry about the defensive issues. Just keep getting buckets.
Starting point is 00:57:20 I mean, on the West West who's a great defensive team Yeah, I don't know but it don't matter Sons cuz good luck in a playoff series. This is it sons are struggling Clippers ain't playing D like that Minnesota is probably the best the Minnesota top top defensive team in the league right now And then they lost they lost under. Thunder fifth, Pelican sixth. Teach people how to care or play defense at the end of the season. It's not going to happen. What is Denver?
Starting point is 00:57:50 A tenth right now. Yeah. Yeah, but I'm just looking. Right, that's what I said. Last year, they won a championship. Were they in the middle of the road? I think during the season, but then they picked it up in the playoffs. I think they were like 15th.
Starting point is 00:58:04 At the lowest defensive rate, I want want to say for a champion like the last whatever 18 years but you're able to pick it up. Well you got equalized that defense is great and shit don't matter. Yeah. Because when you can throw the ball to 15 and a half court and now you can throw the ball to fucking what's it 77 and fucking 11. Good luck. Good-do-do-do-do. Good luck in the playoff series with trying to guard Kyrie and fucking Luka. Game in, game out. Good luck.
Starting point is 00:58:34 But for you guys, how much is the emphasis on defense in the playoffs? Does it increase or is it really just focused on... Just attention to detail because everybody running the same sets, man. Like, you ain't changing plays. You're not changing plays in the playoffs. Like, you're not changing plays, so it's attention to detail because everybody running the same sets, man. Like, you ain't changing plays. You're not changing plays in a playoff. Like, you're not changing plays, so it's attention to details. It's attention, like, certain things you're not, like, if we didn't top block this during the regular season, during the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:58:55 we're going to fucking top block it and make you go out the back door. We're not letting you come off the double, right? Yep. It's just little things like that. If we guard the pick and roll like this and you we y'all had success We gonna guard it like that In the playoff series and then make adjustments from there. It's just we're not gonna guard the same way We're not gonna play it the same way each and every game some
Starting point is 00:59:16 coaches make adjustments game in game out Some stubborn some yeah, they win or lose game one. It's a minor adjustment Oh, we just gonna tweak this we're gonna or we're gonna add a different player in the lineup instead of tweaking the whole fucking system for the next game is that where the coaching really comes into play and they're able to not distinguish themselves you get to see the good great coaches versus the guys who a lot of film coaching and just it's detail okay so like we see the last 10 games of the Lakers right who were they game planning for here right the Wendy's games back-to-back like
Starting point is 00:59:50 they're playing Grizzlies right tonight right they gonna go to shoot around probably right before the game starts like what detail are they doing not so it's it's all the principle that you learn from the beginning shooters will hard show get back to your own or these two guys come together? We'll switch it right if it's on the sideline you got your basic principles of you know, what you're gonna play defensively when it's the playoffs You're going at certain players like it's alright. Listen when this player has it on the side We're gonna play them straight up because this like JJ Redick is coming off the right, listen, when this player has it on the side, we're going to play him straight up. Because this is like J.J. Redick is coming off the right, right? We're going to push him, force him to come off his left side, right?
Starting point is 01:00:30 Because he don't want to shoot coming off that side, right? If he's on this side, just let him come straight up. So you're really breaking down player to player. And we know, okay, Brandon wants to come this way and shoot his shot. When he goes this way, he's going to only drive. Those were the details come in from. That's why I said regular season really don't matter. That's just your confidence yourself.
Starting point is 01:00:51 Other than that, playoffs is really just who can execute the best offensively and defensively. Yeah, imposing your will on your opponent offensively and defensively. Right? And that's why rotations are shorter in the playoffs because you can't play people who you can't depend on that's going to execute the game plan. Right? No matter what a guy did during the regular season,
Starting point is 01:01:17 like, God, dude was balling and shit. He's getting the playoffs and shit. He's playing six minutes like, hey. I can't depend on him. Right him right i'm gonna put you in two minutes a quarter get somebody a spot and hey that's that's just what it is at this time of year or some coaches burn timeouts like shit hey i can't sub sit down damn sub shit i'm gonna burn these timeouts right just that's a strategy some coaches use you know, I make sense. I can't depend on certain guys. That is just People want all the time man like down there you
Starting point is 01:01:51 Intelligence is a real thing in sports. Mm-hmm Yeah, you can run and jump and you fast and all that shit, but Playoffs were best by Q you say really comes into play talking about That's what's funny is you don't get paid in the playoffs like you do in regular season. Whatever your contract is, that's the 82 games. Playoffs is the playoff bonuses, but that's where the smarter players get really paid. Like a dude, you can average 10 in regular season.
Starting point is 01:02:21 Your ass average 20 in the playoff series. Shit, your ass went from 5 million a year to 15. Like that. Because playoffs is designed for the star players. So if you have a star player quality, it's going to turn on in the playoffs. That's why Jimmy Butler's rating goes so much higher in the playoffs. Listen, because I get to see you at least four times, and I get to impose my will on you each and every day.
Starting point is 01:02:48 Because once I get the best of you two games, more than likely I got your number. Especially in the playoffs, seriously. And you see that happen in real time. Yeah, in real time. Sometimes it's the first game. It depends on how the first game goes. But more than likely it's two games.
Starting point is 01:03:05 If I come out there and I impose my will on you, defensive or offensively, you can tell. That third game is going to be... Mentally, you got them. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah, and that's why y'all were surprised. Like, we second-round sweep, Eastern Conference sweep when I was with Nets.
Starting point is 01:03:28 We came out there the first game, like, oh, we got y'all was surprised like we second round sweep he's the conference sweep when I was with net because we came out there the first game like I was we got y'all yeah and we did so wondering I think we won the first two in Detroit first first two was in detail when y'all we all swept them yeah the first two was in Detroit and then went home and so it was some shit I saw it's like that point you know it's yes right we it's a ride out. We finna kick y'all ass. Like, this is... The end of the day, the individual match-ups is... You've been there, man.
Starting point is 01:03:53 All right, this is... Regular season, I was busting your ass, but now I get to see you four straight times. Four straight times. And good luck. All right, let's keep this moving. Warriors were in desperate need of a win to keep their playing hopes alive on the road
Starting point is 01:04:08 against the Heat on Tuesday night. Klay Thompson showed that he still has some splash left in the tank. Klay made his first start since March 13th. Gave us a vicious performance, dropping 28 points. He was 11 for 20 from the field. 6 for 14 from 3
Starting point is 01:04:24 in the wind. As well, Warriors playing better on the road than at home this season but bodes well for them as they got a heavy slate of road games to wrap up the year as they try to hold off the Rockets from taking that 10th and final playing spot. So after the game, Steve Kerr said he put Klay back in the Warriors' starting lineup to add more spacing, but also noted the move isn't necessarily permanent.
Starting point is 01:04:56 But will starting Klay for the rest of the season give the Warriors their best shot at securing another playoff run? I mean, what the fuck is he doing over there? Brandon, you don't seem to be particularly enthused with the rationale behind it. I mean, it's not permanent. I mean, so what? Like, what is he trying to find? He ain't got shit. He ain't got shit. Like, what are we trying to figure out? Like, what are we trying to... You didn't have to say that.
Starting point is 01:05:22 Like, what are we trying to... It's not permanent. You might as well just keep playing them. You ain't got nothing. At least he shoot the ball. At least, you know, I don't... Like... What are you talking about? Like, just a mental thought. Like, you...
Starting point is 01:05:36 You tell the media that this ain't permanent. Like... Like, now I'm mentally still thinking about, oh, I can possibly put back on the bench. It's just some shit you just, oh, you know, playing great. We're going to play very well right now. Just say you don't want to play in a playing game or whatever. Just say you want to just have the season be over at this point.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Like, God damn. The mental war there. You're starting to like Phil Jackson now. It's too much. Just playing mental games. It's too much. Going to sit out there. Figure it out. Figure it out.
Starting point is 01:06:05 Figure it out. And you might bench him tomorrow. Hold on. Like what? Like, I can read, dog.
Starting point is 01:06:11 I can read. I can read what you said. Dumb. Just dumb. Media's going to ask him, yeah, coach said, you know,
Starting point is 01:06:18 this ain't permanent. Like, what do y'all want him to say to that? If they do ask him. So, yeah, I'm Clay.
Starting point is 01:06:24 I'm going to just stay ready. Yeah. All right. He's going to just stay ready. Yeah. All right. He's going to give the right answer, the polite answer. But I knew the war was going to have a terrible year, though, when they picked up Clifford. So I knew that was going to happen. I knew that was going downhill.
Starting point is 01:06:41 State farm agent? Yeah, man. I knew that shit was going downhill. We told y'all. How did we? Told y'all from the jump. Clifford. I was like, who that?
Starting point is 01:06:50 Called him Clifford. Who's that? Got it. Got it now. Just had to take his ass over there. Go somewhere else. Go to SAC. Move around.
Starting point is 01:07:01 Yeah, just keep moving around. Just move around like the yuck is. But obviously, Clay, integral part of the Warriors dynasty. You know, a vet. How important is it as a vet to stay locked in and ready in situations like this when you got a coach playing with your emotions? I mean, it's very important because they ain't resigning, right? He has a bag on that one, too.
Starting point is 01:07:23 You know, I think that's what they're trying to mentally play with him what you know, I don't know Yeah, you know cuz the bag and value him a bit, which I don't think is fair. It's Like it's one of those like I feel like it's one of those like alright Yeah, you did what you did for us. Thank you. Now you can like, you know, you can go if you want I you know like this is here. It's that type of shit where You fuck with him right now cuz you know, if he ball out we're type of shit where you fuck with him right now because you know if he ball out we're gonna have to pay him fuck with him right now sign him and then next year play his ass 32 minutes yeah go and do you go back doing you and he got you for the
Starting point is 01:07:55 discount did you put a discount they do that it's for the discount right but you know just like any shooter or someone that's you know that has standards and we put them at this level of who they're supposed to be, you know, just to see them smiling again after he's hitting shots is, you know, it's all right. I mean, we just want to see, like, hoopers. We want to see hoopers hooping. Right? Right, you know if it's up to us We want the defensive players getting all the blocks they can possibly get all the scores getting all the scoring they can possibly get They just really have like Great game so we can evaluate everybody off their greatness like I want to see like scores as a
Starting point is 01:08:40 180 180 and the defensive players have defended which is weird because how He got 12 blocks 20 rebounds You know to me you just it's like you just want the game to be played such at a perfect level that you know when someone's struggling you're like wow, come on dog just I Got being there like hit this shot not the finish. I hit this shot He's getting the bench and you stop him right now the back and forth Warriors got three games left on the road trip they are at the Magic tonight
Starting point is 01:09:12 then they head to Charlotte to play the Hornets then they got the Spurs in San Antonio on Sunday those three easy wins three easy wins Magic 1 is going to be a it's a gettable win but I think those other two they need them Houston ain't fucking around one is going to be a, you know, it's a get-up-and-win, but I think those other two...
Starting point is 01:09:26 They need them. Houston ain't fucking around. But do you feel like they're going to play games with Clay, or is it now time our backs are against the wall? They have no one, y'all. There's nobody on that sideline that he should be playing against. It's like they... Draymond is the five
Starting point is 01:09:41 right now, and that's what it is. They took Looney out and said, all right, Clay, come on. So unless they're playing against a big team, I don't. I think Brandon Pachinsky has been getting a lot of that run in Clay's place. It's at the point now. I mean, there's a chance that they don't make the play-in. Rockets are surging. There's a very good chance that they don't make the play-in. Rockets are surging. There's a very good chance that they don't make the play-in.
Starting point is 01:10:06 But, I mean, yeah, I mean, they got a game at Houston on April 4th that I feel like will be very, very, very. I mean, you know, Houston's a team that you're like, they're playing hot right now, but they're still young and inexperienced. So, they're the ones that can drop games. Because they ain't going out. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So, now if the Rockets mess around and win that game, then it're the ones that can drop games. Because they ain't going out. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So now if the Rockets mess around and win that game,
Starting point is 01:10:28 then it's like, all right, well, things are going to get serious. But we also got to talk about another part of the game, questionable moment that happened as well involving Draymond Green. This is, watch this replay here. Hold it. Watch what he does to Patti Mills. Draymond Green and Patti Mills gone to a little entanglement another European Is Australia boy boy boy the year?
Starting point is 01:10:55 The play was reviewed Grandma was given a common foul. Do you agree with the refs giving Draymond a comment? Everything looks worse in slow motion. That's a very common comment. I mean, it's just common for him to choke out Europeans now, so it's common. There's another one. There's another one. If you got a green card, you're going to get this green card. I think if he actually would have got his neck, they would have probably did it. But when you slow it down, you can see that he's holding, but right when it got close to the neck, he released.
Starting point is 01:11:25 And Hunter was like, damn, almost got you, boy. Almost got you, black ass. He let go at the right time. You know, Patty Mills sold it. You know, he tried to sell it. Is that growth in Draymond now? Are we seeing, you know?
Starting point is 01:11:40 No, that was just Patty Mills. Another year old's Patty Mills Mills moved at the right time Looking back like damn almost had him. I should have just put my neck a little bit forward So let's keep this thing moving now Lexi I'm over here looking at you I noticed That your wrist looking a little lonely. So in the East, we got the Heat, Sixers, Bulls, and Hawks. And in the West, we got the Kings, Suns, Lakers, and Warriors. Who is the most dangerous team currently in the plan. Let's get this clock going
Starting point is 01:14:47 He's conference or just over he's okay. So Eastern Conference will go Eastern Conference first Yep, yeah heat West Phoenix West we got the King sounds Lakers and Warriors right now King go Kings Kings. You think the Kings, Suns, Lakers, and Warriors right now. I'm going to go Kings. Kings. You think the Kings are the most dangerous team? Lakers. Lakers! And Wes?
Starting point is 01:15:11 I'm going Phoenix. I'm just going Kings, Suns, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Warriors. I'm going Phoenix. I'm going Lakers. Phoenix, Lakers. Lexi, why do you say Phoenix? They're just too dangerous offensively. They're going to get it together.
Starting point is 01:15:27 They have to get it together. They're competitors. You know, KD's won championships. D-Book wants one. And I think Riley Beal just has to stay healthy. But I think they have too many weapons on that team for it to be easy for a team to beat them in a series. Gil, why do you think Lakers? Lakers because they got
Starting point is 01:15:47 LeBron James. LeBron Ray James. And that Laker uniform, because if they don't make it in the playoff, what's the name, that means all the TNT ain't got shit to talk about. They got Skip Bellis and Paul Pierce undisputed. They don't got shit to talk about. So for them to have their ratings, they need
Starting point is 01:16:04 LeBron James. All of YouTube who don't like LeBron James need they they money goes down down down So they need LeBron James in there. It's just economy thing man. So LeBron families If you mean it s that's weeks of no pain. The only positive, the Lakers not making the playoffs. I'm serious. He's feeding a lot of people right now. He's feeding a lot of people, man, on both sides of the field.
Starting point is 01:16:34 Whether you love the Lakers or you hate talking about the Lakers, while you're talking about the Lakers, you are still talking about the Lakers. Getting their bread. But if the Lakers did not make the playoffs, we'd get some more Mind the game podcast with LeBron So that would you know be cool for him to do that? We may be out of work if he keeps doing that According to some but not underdog fantasy who loves us Make sure you download the app use promo code give them match your first positive up to $100
Starting point is 01:16:57 So can you said the Sacramento Kings most dangerous team currently in the plan? Why do you feel like the Kings are the most dangerous team? Mike Brown Mike Brown. Mike Brown. Great coach. Great coach. He's a good coach. Yeah, yeah, he's a good coach. Mike Brown.
Starting point is 01:17:14 That should be named Mike Brown. And they young. They don't know no better, man. They get in. Like, whoever they play in the play-in game, they just going to go out and hoop. They defend. Mike Brown a hell of a Justin may make I just Took the words to seven last year had a generational 50 piece from staff. It seems like they're really the experience
Starting point is 01:17:39 Yeah, they wasn't really a what 3c last year. No I'm gonna go Miami ready to go with them. Just cuz you just never know just never know with Spoltz. We on the West Coast, dawg. No, he said, no, no, any team. He said any team, right? Oh, niggas got buzzers now? Look at us. Damn. I said any team currently, East or West currently, that are playing. You went with the Miami Heat.
Starting point is 01:17:52 But, I mean, if the Heat happen to face the Bucks, that's going to be a little... Yeah, they just still, just, you know, Spoltz and his... We will be doing Gil's Arenas, shows live from Miami. What's funny is they want the Bucs. That's the bad part. They're probably the only team that really want the Bucs. Yeah, we. Somebody tell Underdog.
Starting point is 01:18:14 It's a different team, though. Yeah. It's a different team, yeah. Even just, yeah, because this team, just current Bucs team and Heat team, okay, they do play. This situation don't, we wouldn't have been talking about that if Miami,
Starting point is 01:18:26 if Bucks had Dame last year. It just, right? Y'all just get hurt. So I don't think it's, I don't think Miami want to see them to be honest with you.
Starting point is 01:18:35 Any chance he can make a Cinderella run again like they did last season to the final? No. They lost a lot of good pieces that helped them, but they do have
Starting point is 01:18:44 Tyler Hero back. They still lost those pieces though. But they helped them, but they do have Tyler Hero back. Still lost those pieces, though. But they still lost some, they lost some, like, hungered pieces. Yeah, and the Celtics got much better. I mean, Miami got them out of there last year. Miami got them out of there last year. Mitchell Robinson coming back from the Knicks, man, listen.
Starting point is 01:19:00 I know what you say about them. The Knicks? They're tough out, man. I would not be surprised if the Knicks... Nah, they're second you say about him. The Knicks? They're tough out, man. I would not be surprised if the Knicks. Nah, they're second-round out. Because second-round is Boston. That's who they have in the second round. But who can?
Starting point is 01:19:17 The Knicks can catch Milwaukee. For our resident Knicks fans, would you rather have... Y'all don't want to see Giannis and Dame in there. Bucks at the 2-3, do you think the Knicks have a better chance of beating the Bucks than beating the Celtics? Yeah. Okay. Knicks fans across the country. To the Knicks fans out there.
Starting point is 01:19:36 That they can do what? They had a better chance against Milwaukee than they do with them. To get to the Eastern Conference Final. I think that they could put a special run together. Yeah, because of doc No, I think our talent alone could just know what I'm saying is that Brunson Teddy ass up in like a pick and roll situation He can do the same situation the whole time doc won't change to it It's not like he gonna trap his ass. You know, they gonna put Malik Beasley. They put Malik Beasley on It don't matter this same pink roll. ain't tall enough. You know what I mean? Malik? Nah. He's like 6'3". He's not tall enough to guard Jalen Brunson
Starting point is 01:20:10 If you're if you're if you're looking if I'm if I'm gonna move but not if I'm going to Brunson in the in the in the playoffs I'm putting Giannis on him. Giannis just stay on him. High school the other day. You putting Giannis on Brunson? I you put Giannis on Brunson I'll put you out of some brothers because he's he's learned he's learned how to get his shot off on anyone his size or at least three to four inches taller right so anyone from six eight to five ten he gonna fuck them up so that ain't he's he's sitting there that's for me because he knows when he's going to shoot. Right? So I'm putting somebody 6'11". That's long. Yo, just keep one hand up.
Starting point is 01:20:51 Just... He ain't going to really beat you to the basket because he's not athletic. So just stay one arm up and just run around with the little dude the whole time.
Starting point is 01:20:58 Stay down on the... Stay down. You don't need to jump because you don't need to block him. You know what I mean? My thing is I don't need you to block his shot.
Starting point is 01:21:05 And then I'll put Pat Baff too. No, I'm not putting Pat Baff. Just a little bit. That's his game. 94. No, that's his game right there. That rough type. He's going to get pat ass right in front of him.
Starting point is 01:21:16 Yeah, he's going to sit there and bump with him. Bump with him. Then release. Bump with pat ass. He's going to come like. That's his game right there. One hard foul. One hard foul.
Starting point is 01:21:23 But that's what he wants. He don't mind that. He don't mind. That's what he said. That's what Brunson wants One hard foul. One hard foul. But that's what he wants. He don't mind that. He don't mind. That's what he said. That's what Brunson wants. He wants that gritty basketball. College player. And sit there, bounce you, hit you.
Starting point is 01:21:33 Play four years in college. He want that half. Yeah, he want that. That bump you. Yeah, let's get that. Hold and grab. And he know how to play all. Yeah, that's what he want.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Can we clear? You got to treat him like Z-Bo style. Z-Bo want you to try to use your strip? He gonna slide out of it hits a little shot bounce you wait for you hit him old dude He gonna play that game with you. You gonna get him in foul trouble pick him up fool. Nah Can we clip this off and send it to the New York media, please? Gil saying tons of positive things about Jalen Brunson in the New York It's a new day here on gills are here We've come a long way, Gil, in the past
Starting point is 01:22:06 few months. Oh, I said Nick suck. I didn't say he did. Just saying. I recall at one point you walked off the set a few months ago. Hurt my feelings. Trying to say nice things about the New York Nick so we can get our bag out there. It's the New York Nick.
Starting point is 01:22:22 Working on it. Still working. It's a work in progress. Got some Tims coming. Will not choke them too tight. So let's keep it moving. On another episode of LeBron and JJ Reddick's Mind the Game pod, which dropped on Wednesday,
Starting point is 01:22:35 LeBron took issue with all the bag talk going on nowadays. Everyone now, it's a narrative of this thing called I have a bag. Or he doesn't have a bag.
Starting point is 01:22:48 It bothers the fuck out of me. Everyone thinks just because you get a favorable matchup that it means it's one on one time. Let's play once. That's all you hear the kids talk about now. You wanna play once? You wanna play once? What the fuck is this?
Starting point is 01:23:02 This is not Jordan versus Bird, Nintendo. It's five on five. And yes, if you have an opportunity to have a favorable matchup and you can beat your man, but realize something. Most great teams are going to send help. And can you make the right reads? Can you make the right reads? Can you instill confidence in your teammates to win? You've scored twice on that favorable matchup. Do you know that the double is coming and you have to see it either coming from the tilt on the baseline or from the fire from the nail. You have to be ready for that.
Starting point is 01:23:47 And it takes time for guys. And some guys don't want to learn and won't learn because they just want to play once. I like that. Like when the definitions come up? Yeah, yeah. We'll need that. We'll need that. I thought he was talking about money.
Starting point is 01:24:00 Very detailed. No. So did I. I thought he said bag. No, the whole time I thought you were talking about money. Because that's what the Instagram... Yeah, bagless bag. You got a bag.
Starting point is 01:24:11 I'm going to keep saying that. But I thought you were talking about money. These guys talk about, you know, these skilled players with the bag and how good they are because they have this elite package of doing a whole bunch of nothing. Obviously, when you started talking about it, I realized... It's social media. That's why getting the whole clip is necessary. Or watching the whole thing.
Starting point is 01:24:28 Right, because imagine if someone didn't watch that and they're like, I'm mad about people. Yeah, getting money. Yeah, that's what I thought. Oh, yeah. He said it wrong. He said it wrong. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:24:39 He said it right because that's how they talk about, like, Jordan Poole. Jordan Poole bag is phenomenal. They talk about how Giannis has a bagless bag then Yannis has no bag is general discourse even though Kyrie bad crazy Yeah, right. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. It's like Aloha several different meanings Is having a bag important or has it become an overrated thing within the basketball discourse? It's overrated because the people who came up with it Wasn't NBA players wasn't the people who came up with it wasn't NBA players,
Starting point is 01:25:06 wasn't the people who got a bag, right? It's not them saying what they have. It's that whole thing of skill. Like, the definitions that's coming for
Starting point is 01:25:14 into the game is coming from people who haven't played the game, who's not in the game. They're just watching it and they're coining it, right? And then it becomes overused and overrated, right?
Starting point is 01:25:24 So it's like, you know, this person has a bag, this person doesn't, and it's like, who gets buckets, dog? Who makes plays? Yeah, you can do 57 moves, dog, and score two points. By the time you scored, I done went down three times. I got 60 or two. Exerting too much energy to score.
Starting point is 01:25:45 That's what it is. Exerting too much energy to get. That's what it is. Exerting too much energy to get a fucking regular-ass bucket dog. Two points is two points. Two points, yeah. I just think about the Nassus when you're talking about the bag. Just the sham guy to the... I'd be... Just...
Starting point is 01:26:01 I'd be wanting to say... Because he be giving so much positive energy, man, I don't want to tell him, like when you get in the game play basketball dog Maybe you will put you will get in the game a lot more if you just went in and played regular hoop Right versus trying to come in there and be a highlight reel like I'm gonna get a layup But that's what I'm saying he comes in But the internet created that for him. So now he feel like,
Starting point is 01:26:26 you know, they've been talking about it. So now he feel like he got to do it. You wonder why. Like, you know,
Starting point is 01:26:30 since the internet, they be talking. Now he got to. That's the bag that Braun speaks of. They talk about it. Somebody speaks. Somebody gives him
Starting point is 01:26:37 props for doing it, right? Now everybody, oh, well, shit, I'm going to go in my bag.
Starting point is 01:26:42 Like, no. They disrespect his brother. They say, Giannis has no bag. He's trying to put on Every time we see him play what are we what are we watching? Four minutes in a game every time he touches it. He wants to do some fancy and I'm like the hall like Like you play hard. You look like you know how to play the game, right? If you just went in and played regular basketball,
Starting point is 01:27:06 I probably can put you in in the second quarter and third, but I'm afraid that if I put you in in the regular time of the game, you might do this. And that'd be the thing. That'd be the thing when I'd be seeing him. I'm like, I wish someone would just tell him, yo, just play. Yeah, but I'm...
Starting point is 01:27:24 Just score. I appreciate LeBron, like, being honest and, like you go. Just play. Yeah, but I'm... Just score. I appreciate LeBron being honest and candid. Just him being him. Because people think he's not supposed to speak and talk a certain way and use certain verbiage and certain things. I'm happy to see that and hear that. Yeah. That he's still that person who is from Akron.
Starting point is 01:27:45 Right? Because people get jaded, man. People lose touch and he don't succumb to what people want him to be or want him to behave or talk how he,
Starting point is 01:28:00 his speech is. So I appreciate that. Yeah. I like that he uses like real basketball terminology. Yeah, they put it at the bottom But he's not like dumbing down the conversations for like more engagement or for other things. He's just like talking hoops Which I think is missing in the basketball space. I think we provide it and now Those are in a present by underdog fantasy. Yeah, I'm a young man. Little jealous. We jealous when come up with the definition thing though. That's your cool. That's your hot Cuz no no fucking up in the back. No the reason the reason the reason is because we're not we're not a
Starting point is 01:28:44 Pre yeah, we're not pre-tape pre-tape got it in there not true. Yeah, I'm with you. We 18,000. We are live. We 20,000 live. Facts. We good over here. But it's still a good- But we already have the new one coming though. Free game.
Starting point is 01:28:53 Free game. So we're ahead of the curve in every regard. Already been in the works ladies and gentlemen. Like he said, we're ahead of the curve in every regard, absolutely. Even when they did the, when he was talking about the baseline, when the baseline guy is coming off, side out of bounds, and he's like, why this guy doesn't go one, two, and then switch out? And then I text him. I was like, you already know what that is, because coaches are stupid, and they've never played
Starting point is 01:29:16 a game, and he started laughing, like, yeah. Because it's one of those things, like, yo, wouldn't it be easier for me to catch this guy and then my guy just runs back to the baseline guy? The players are like, this would be easier. One, two, knowing that this guy's coming on, I can stop that pass versus if this guy got hit coming across, we can stop giving up this shot because he's already in motion. My guy can, whoever's guarding him can just run back to the baseline and block it up. Yeah. You know, but they didn't get the show to play so you can see how it's done.
Starting point is 01:29:50 I mean, obviously, the show is going. I'm sure they'll start incorporating all that stuff. But, you know, Gil's Arena, Gil, you have been doing breakdowns for a while now, going to the court. You know what I don't think people really do a great job at is you can ask him, you can ask someone like Pat Bev, right, ask someone like P.J. Tucker, right, ask Kenyon, let's say you have my number, you stopped me that day, and I went, you know, I went three for 20. I'll ask the dude, hey, man, what was my telltale sign? What was I doing wrong?
Starting point is 01:30:27 A great defensive player who really care about the game itself, they'll tell you. Every time you came off, you dipped. And when you dipped, I know you was picking the ball up. So when you dipped, I went into your space, right?
Starting point is 01:30:41 All right, bet, bet, bet. Now I can learn how to create without the dip so next time i'm seeing him if i get the best of him he's done seeing something else so he knows the next time like it's it's teaching your own right i don't think offensive players go to the defensive players and ask them like yo when you you know the two times you you got my number what you looking at like what's my telltale side i've seen P.J. Tucker and Kevin Durant going back and forth, right? And Kevin Durant's like, yo, stop playing football. Play regular basketball.
Starting point is 01:31:11 Stop me the regular way. And P.J. did. Like, really, like, changed how he guarded him. And then he stopped him two times, and Kevin Durant was like, there you go. Like, you know, it's like that updated information for both sides to get better. And I don't think a lot of offensive players really, like, go to defensive players and ask them. But does that work both ways? Like, as a defensive player, are you having those conversations with offensive guys?
Starting point is 01:31:39 Has anybody ever asked you? No. See? And would you give them that information if they did ask? Yeah. Like, it's a thing. Like, I want to know, like, what are you seeing? Because for some reason, like, that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:31:53 Like, Dan, you put the chair on me four times. Like, what are you feeling? And he'll be like, yo, I feel that as soon as you're getting ready to hit, I can feel a hitch. And as soon as I feel that hitch, I back up. But you be able to tell, like, the difference between someone, like, stopping you or you having, like, an off night? Like, you be able to tell that before you go reach out to the defensive player, right? Yeah, you can tell, but it goes over. Like, I remember I asked Dante Jones when Dante Jones gave me the three. I'm like, yo, dawg, what was I doing?
Starting point is 01:32:22 Because every time you're getting ready to like go, I can see the twitch. So as soon as you're getting ready to go and you're about to like dip down, I'm just going to slide over knowing you don't have
Starting point is 01:32:32 that same power. You used all your power to try to get by me. Like fuck. Yeah, like so my thing was that I don't know why people, like a lot of post
Starting point is 01:32:42 defensive guys, they all, for years, I've always watched people play post-defense wrong. Mm-hmm. Like just, so I'd switch mine up. I put my hand on your hip, whichever side you're on the baseline,
Starting point is 01:32:58 and I could feel your movements. If you're getting ready to go, I release. Mm-hmm. So if you're going middle, I ain't got to. I know I can get that easy. But I can feel your movements. Nobody ever caught on to it, right?
Starting point is 01:33:15 Just say when I'm playing Kevin Garnett, he can't go right shoulder if he's playing me. Just can't. And that's his move. He don't go and he... No. me just came and that's his move mm-hmm no I'm taking it away every time he never asked me what am I doing to I'm gonna make you go this way every time bro yeah cuz no matter what I got to do you you know I'm sitting over there I'm got my hand in my hand you gonna come because I know your right shoulder shooter
Starting point is 01:33:45 That's your comfortable spot. Nobody. He never like that. Well, what am I like nothing? What is my telltale sign doing it? That's what I said. I remember you like with Brian you you asked him he'll tell you like that's I said the the elite the students will tell you because They want you to get better so they can get back. Absolutely. Yeah, no, I ain't shopping time And the sign of a good defender is not holding someone to zero points. It's making your offensive player do something that they don't want to do. Uncomfortable, man. And sometimes they're going to make those shots,
Starting point is 01:34:15 but that's not the shot they wanted to take. Yeah. We made it. I'm going to pat you on your ass and tell you good shot. That's me. Like, I'll tell you in a minute. You make some shit. Hell yeah, good fucking shot.
Starting point is 01:34:23 Good fucking shot, dude. God damn, boy, that was tough. Like, I'm going'll tell you the man you you make some shit Good fucking shot, dude Damn, well that was tough. Like I'm gonna tell you straight up I ain't the one that's going like now because I know I made you earn that bucket every possession, right? Mm-hmm Every single possession if I'm going somebody you earn that fucking bucket if you got one so you made that my man shit Their moments as a defender though., when people watch, right, somebody misses a shot, they think that's good defense. There are moments where you might have a defensive lapse
Starting point is 01:34:49 and the guy just misses the shot and in your head you're thinking like, I got a break, but, yeah, exactly. Fools go both ways. It goes both ways. Yeah, it goes both ways. It goes both ways. That's a horrible fucking shot and it goes in, right?
Starting point is 01:35:01 Now you think you made that motherfucker, you're going to come down and shoot the net. No, that was a horrible fucking shot. Right? in right now you think you made that motherfucker you'll come down and shoot the net like no that was a horrible fucking right right no you know you know trust me but that's what ends up happening to a dude did something like got him with a good move right and he thought it was good because it got through and then he tried to say smacked it got it then got you got you again. And he was like, ugh. Mm-hmm. Yeah. How much for you is that just even playing chess?
Starting point is 01:35:29 Like... Oh, for me, it's always. Yeah, messing with guys' heads, making them think that that's going to be there. Yeah, no, it's always. Like, you know, man, I'm going to put a challenge. Like, certain guys, I might not do it the first time we play. I might not. I'm going to get you.
Starting point is 01:35:44 Mm-hmm. Like, I'm going to be strong. I My night I'm gonna get you. Mm-hmm. I'm gonna be strongest when we fight which is not in there trying to be a strong He's trying to be up more now. You didn't wait. We all come not the next time making the first time Whoa, oh lord What hey man, you need some help up We'll pull the chair the fuck on you in a minute, bro. In this day and age, I would do it.
Starting point is 01:36:07 I would have fun in this day and age. I would have a blast because these niggas dumb. I watch basketball and these young niggas dumb. What's the solution? I mean, we say that,
Starting point is 01:36:20 we talk about basketball kids being some of the lows that they've been in the history of the game, but what is the solution if we really want steel to sharpen steel and we want this next generation of young guys to come in and be intelligent? What's the solution to fix it? Because obviously I don't know if it's AAU or whatever's going on, but-
Starting point is 01:36:35 Not having high school basketball coaches like Andre Chavarria. Goddamn. Goddamn. Goddamn. Pew, pew. Shit. And not even to that point, but even at the youth level, man it start? Pew, pew. Shit. And not even to that point, but even at the youth level, man, you start to see it.
Starting point is 01:36:49 And you see the bad habits of six, seven, eight young kids. We coach kids, six and seven, nine. You see it now. Bad habits. It's bad habits early on. It's coaches that don't know what to look for, how to coach a kid, how to help a kid get better, how to be honest with certain... It's a domino effect.
Starting point is 01:37:09 It starts early and then these same coaches move on and they coach in different ages of kids and now you got the AAU circuit where it's just about the shoes and I got two five-star guys and it's just about them two. There's no stop. Let's no stop.
Starting point is 01:37:26 Let's do what Gilbert's doing. Right? Footwork. But let's... There's no slow down with this shit. How can you get as good as you're going to get individually? What is your
Starting point is 01:37:41 skills? And it needs to be that. Let's slow everybody down. Let's start teaching the fundamentals of the game. Right? And if it's that, it goes a long way, man. You start them early. Repetition becomes habit, man. Shooting, ball handling, defense, moving your feet.
Starting point is 01:38:02 If you work on it enough... You're going to get better. You get better at it. It ain't saying you're going to be the best, the greatest, but you get better at it. And it starts early. It starts early, man. Whatever age, sports, whatever it is,
Starting point is 01:38:17 if your child wants to do it and play it, start them with the fundamentals. All that, don't... Because you want your kid to be successful, you put them in the league so they get a fucking trophy. it starting with the fundamentals of just like all that don't because you want your kid to be successful you put them in the lead so they get a fucking trophy that's not teaching them anything yeah mm-hmm worried about in life and in sport right but worried about the wins and losses which is important integral part as you get older as you get old yeah well I'm like this kid shooting a
Starting point is 01:38:40 slingshot you're not gonna he gonna keep shooting that shit. No one cares that you won 12. Yeah. Not at all. 12 U tournaments. That's great for the program. But you see it at like 7, 8, 9. We got the best 8. Since we were coming, oh, this kid's the best. 11 and under in the country. It's like, cool, but where is he at now when he's 17, 18?
Starting point is 01:38:59 Same place he was, 11 U. His whole life was 11 U. He ain't grew. I'm telling people, listen, y'all take this. That's it way entirely too serious at this age, right? Help him develop help him get better Y'all saw that video of that coach throwing the chairs during the time at the 10 and under the little babies Yeah, the 10 is one of the kids was crying I don't know what he was mad about Kids it's gonna gotta be on the team
Starting point is 01:39:36 But what see I wouldn't have been able to be on his team Because you you you yell at my child that way nigga. I'm gonna come see you But you know coaches like that. They only yell it, that's why I said you can tell who his child is, because that's the only one his child is. Everybody else. I play for coaches like that. But I'm going to tell you now. No, but then you can't yell at other people. Hey man, you can't yell at people's kids that way, dog. Like, you can't yell
Starting point is 01:39:57 at people's kids that way, man. Especially mine, for sure. Like, yeah, you want to coach them? You can coach them hard. But if you come into the goddamn line, nigga, he ate. It, yeah, you want to coach him? You can coach him hard, but he comes in the goddamn line, nigga, he's eight. It's what's being yelled, right? That's what I mean. He's eight.
Starting point is 01:40:10 I don't be like, don't yell at your kid. Shit, you know? You know what I mean? Yeah, at that age. Don't yell at any of them. At that age, it ain't doing nothing for him. We need you to shoot him. But you ain't doing nothing for him at that age.
Starting point is 01:40:22 You ain't doing anything for him but go make him dislike the game. What, a coach? At that age? At what age, though? Eight? Like, ten, eleven years old? I mean, yelling?
Starting point is 01:40:35 Certain things? To the point where missing free throws and layups? Like, ah, listen. I mean, my coaches, I had tough coaches. Okay, let me tell you this.
Starting point is 01:40:42 There's a difference between a tough coach. So I went to this. Raise your voice at any. So my daughter made the little A. Okay, let me tell you this So I went to this raise your voice at any so My daughter made the Lord a you team will also team at the red They made the coaches go to this clinic. Like if you got to be a coach and then made you go to this clinic. I Dreaded go I'm not just last fucking place. I wanted to go on my fucking Tuesday trust But yeah, fuck last place I wanted to be.
Starting point is 01:41:06 But I go, and it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. And it was how to relate to the younger generation, what things to say, what not to do, how to go about it, and this, that, and the third. And what he was saying was, he asked the question, it was a scale on where do you want your players to be, whether it was calm, was this, and Angry was over here, right? And new environment I grew up in I I violated up so he can so he can explain it
Starting point is 01:41:32 I'm like when you it's 10 right angry like is what we was taught I Get you mad you play hard. That's the way we was taught right? Mm-hmm You want to be in the middle. You yelling at them and all that shit, like they ain't hearing nothing. It ain't registering. It might have worked for some because that's just the environment we grew up in.
Starting point is 01:41:54 But nowadays you're dealing with, it's a different breed of child. Whether we want to realize it or not, it is, right? Your son responds different to things that you say than other people, right? Yeah Coach can't yell and say the same thing to him in environment and get the same result Because he's trying to it needs to be a balance of certain positive reinforcement with it When we growing up is it's, oh, you fucking suck, you're soft, you ain't playing hard,
Starting point is 01:42:27 then you get mad, and, oh, shit, you played better when you got mad. Like, eh. Yeah. Technically, yeah. Yeah, but then you wonder why, mother, like, you hold on to a certain shit, then you're getting kicked out of games,
Starting point is 01:42:39 certain, just, like, no, that shit my dad told me, I need to play this way. Like, but that's, I'm'm like and it's only a few players As you come across that can turn it and use that energy to go right they have that that means they're there They're they're accepting that pressure They're not listening to what you're saying just the tone and then they get to apply it. They're using that energy to apply it That's one out of every fucking 50 kid
Starting point is 01:43:06 that can do that. So you have an AAU team and you got 12 kids, probably not one of them can respond like that. So you're killing your whole team for no reason. You still need positive reinforcement. And then there's real expectations. Come on, 8U to 12U. I done already calculated 8, 9U, we're going to have 50 travels. We're going to have shit 50 turnovers. If we get to the free throw line 20 times. We might make five You see you don't like the words It seems like the results are more important to the coaches and adults involved in like teaching the kids how to play basketball the right way That does they think wins and losses Expectations is high for me at 11. Oh my son We were taught to play six-year-old, these parents had signs and shit at the game.
Starting point is 01:44:09 Like, they weren't cheering against, they were trying to beat the coaches at the fucking game. Like, because I'm a assistant coach. Like, they weren't worried. They did fucking signs. Everybody, it's loud as shit at the little six-year-old game. Yeah. I mean, I remember being really young, playing like one or two age groups older, and we were horrible. But we were being taught how to play the right way.
Starting point is 01:44:27 So that was like 10, 11. We get to like 12, 13. We're playing these same 12, 13-year-olds that are now 14, 15, and now we're beating the shit out of them because we were taught how to play the right way. I mean, this little team I grew up with, I'm the only pro from that group. Like that's the reality of the situation. I always go back to that Kobe squad when the girls came in and they got smacked by the
Starting point is 01:44:50 team. One year, next year, 100-point win. It's about growth at that age. Y'all didn't have AAU Nationals? Yeah. Like, six, seven, eight. Cocoa Beach. Yeah, Cocoa Beach.
Starting point is 01:44:58 Like, that was like 11, 12, 13. Like, the expectation was high. Yeah, I went 13 under Nationals. Was y'all actually practicing then? Yeah. Yes, we high. Yeah, I went 13 under that. Was y'all actually practicing then? Yeah. Yes, we were. You know, today they don't practice. They just show up to the table.
Starting point is 01:45:11 I'm going to say, my squad, South Coast from Orange County. You know Scott McLean? Yeah. Yeah, right. So it was Scott McLean and Pat Barron and all of them. So Scott McLean had a team called South Coast. 11, 12, 13. We were practicing at Oakley's facility.
Starting point is 01:45:26 How many times a week? Like maybe two times a week, like Tuesdays and Thursdays. So now they're building teams where they don't even have to practice. They just show up. And I'm like, alright, cool. Where's your kid practicing at then? Oh, we have a trainer. So he has moves he don't know how to apply it in the game.
Starting point is 01:45:42 So he's not having a practice where he's having structure and stuff. Like the one thing that you had like people didn't really Understand what Kobe was doing those girls practice every single day Period it was a au team, but they practiced every day if you miss one practice you ain't starting You better have an excuse why you couldn't come to practice. Oh, they was practicing, so those girls, no matter how good they came individually,
Starting point is 01:46:12 they know how to play basketball as a team, right? You can put them, you can get one of those girls, and they understand the structure of being on time, being disciplined, knowing the structure, practice, so you can sit there and say, all right, get in a game, and you don't have to worry about them messing up because they know how to play the game. This girl might have all the moves, but she don't know how to play
Starting point is 01:46:34 structured basketball. That's crazy. Because 99% of her game, maybe one, right before big game. We used to practice all the time. You was 3, 4, you could play 4D. You remember a coach, right? You practice it. That's the only way you literally learn how to translate everything that a trainer's teaching you inside of the game.
Starting point is 01:46:56 So for the most part, you done practice with your AAU. I mean, your AAU trainer, or just not even AAU, a trainer, six days a week, and you playing a game on the weekend and wonder why none of this shit working. But is that more a testament to the AU culture nowadays? I remember we were coming up. We didn't have tournaments every single week.
Starting point is 01:47:12 It's money. I mean, now it's a money. Now it's $20 a part. So you have to be smart enough to realize as a parent, like, you can't play every tournament. You got to put yourself in a situation where your son is getting the practice it needs. She needs to work on his skill every single day, every single week. Versus we're going to train all,
Starting point is 01:47:35 then play in a game, then oh shit, you missed all your shots. That's the first time you played. That's the first time you played. That's the first time you... So you playing one game a week and then wonder why it's not translating. Do you think... Because I remember like, obviously when you guys were younger, when I was younger, AAU was like, it trumped high school because it was a place where coaches, all the coaches could see you because they couldn't see you otherwise. But like now with like social media and everything being streamed, do you think that playing high school is going to be more important than AAU or people are still going to just
Starting point is 01:48:11 put all their eggs to AAU? We was, well at least me and Kenyon, we was there where AAU helped you, but those guys came to your high school. They taught your high school coach. What is he like every day? Right? Yeah, it was like... Well, I mean, those were like the top players.
Starting point is 01:48:29 But you know you could go to... That could potentially fall through the cracks if they don't get seen. But you go to big time in Vegas, you could go to the pump joint out here. I just feel like
Starting point is 01:48:38 Dino's on the wall. I feel like there's more of Dino's now. Dino's with Pangos. High schools now that weren't available before because AAU is just a mess now. These kids transfer too much now.
Starting point is 01:48:48 They did transfer too much. An AAU program, the big-time program, they have more influence. Where these kids are going because of the shoes that they're wearing. You don't even know where to find somebody. I can see a kid this weekend, and I'm like, oh, yeah, I like dude. And then I'm like, I'm going to schedule in the next week. And then come next week, and he on a whole other team. You're like, I like dude and then I'm like I'm sketch when the next week and then come next weekend
Starting point is 01:49:06 He on the whole nother team Now you done missed them now you got to go find them somewhere else he'll two different teams he played I mean, I'm love them shoe contracts don't really mean anything anymore. You got shoe brand signing kids at schools that they can't even Yeah, where they should but we saw the full right cuz? Because if you got one pair of shoes back in the day, that was a big deal. Then obviously Pat Berry came in, and it was, you know, I'm snatching the best kids
Starting point is 01:49:32 and taking you over to Warehouse Marina, get whatever you want. You start to see that. Yeah. And now here we are now, where it's literally just like, but all the shoes, they were playing each other.
Starting point is 01:49:42 You went to Vegas, it didn't matter. The Reebok team was playing Nike versus Dita, whoever. Even some of these kids that's transferring from high school, high school, the portal, coming in. Y'all don't, they don't realize the next level looking at y'all, like, yeah, he's not. Why can't y'all stay in one spot? You don't win to three or four high schools. That next level done already tagged, not committed to anything. Right?
Starting point is 01:50:05 You quitting on your team means you're quitting on yourself. You're quitting on your work ethic. It just labels you. It just labels you. And that's a fact. And that's all it is. I'm not looking at someone that seems disciplined. I don't care how good you are.
Starting point is 01:50:19 You keep bouncing around. You keep bouncing. You're not happy with something. What happens when you get here? You're not demanding a trade all the time, and your talent doesn't match your demands. I'd rather, yeah, we'll find you when you get older. That's right.
Starting point is 01:50:32 People don't realize that. But we talk about both sides of it. I can't even get you to talk about the high school component of it, and now it's detrimental, especially out in California. You transfer, you got to sit out to halfway through the season. You cost yourself a bet. You can't play until December 24th or whatever it is it is but now in college i'm watching the men's tournament and i'm seeing kids oh damn he used to be on stanford now he's on north carolina or he
Starting point is 01:50:52 yeah they all over the place you have a 17 this year you going into the portal yeah we talk about the kid not the draft the kid from harvard you're not going into the draft you're going to the portal that means you're gonna you're gonna buy that but you. You're going to the portal. So you're going to sit there and take $500, $1 million to go into the portal when you know the NBA draft, you're top 15 pick, you're getting $4, $5 million per year? But you got 70 people being told they're a top 15 pick. You know what I mean? First, I can get this $500 to a mil, straight cash. $500 to a mil is fine i can tell you this man that's a lot man five what i mean 500 to a million 500 to a
Starting point is 01:51:34 million and you could have went to the wait wait he averaging what i'm just saying i mean there's just kids there's a hypothetical kids they're ball they were balling on their team they just transferred they're transferring to go to another school for what? I don't think they look at the transfers when you go to a different school for the money itself, right? What's the girl from Louisville? She was in Ben Lyft? Ben Lyft. Prime example. No matter what she says, she goes to LSU for that money.
Starting point is 01:52:08 They paid her a bag to go there. How did that work out for your game? Are you the same player? Are you rated the same? Are you still top five? You talk about LSU being defending champ. If I'm going to go to that squad, it's because I think I can raise a banner. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:52:27 You were top five over here. You was the elite. You was a danger over here. You took the money, and now you're just one of the girls. You're getting benched. You're not the same person. Where is your rating going forward? Are you going to be a draft pick?
Starting point is 01:52:39 Can you come out in the draft? All that matters. For sure. The window. The opportunity is small. She has to come out this year, right? I'm that matters. No, for sure. The window, the opportunity is small. Like, she has to come out this year, right? I'm honestly not sure,
Starting point is 01:52:48 but I think she is. Girl, you probably got to do it. She ain't four, right? They have to be 22 or turning 22 the year of the draft. That's right.
Starting point is 01:52:58 So they can stay three, depending on how old they are. But yeah, usually it's four. Like, stuff like that, you got to like, this is Haley's fourth season, so she could come out and probably have that COVID.
Starting point is 01:53:07 She has a COVID, yeah. And she already graduated in three years. Why is that for women's, though? Why do y'all have to stay so long? Why you can't just like... Wouldn't you think if Juju can go now? There's not the same money waiting for us on the other side. And the season
Starting point is 01:53:24 is shorter. It's no different than players. They have the player union, player union. They keep their jobs a little bit longer. They put in rules where girls have to stay a little bit longer. But wouldn't they make more money if they can get young girls to come in there? I'm just saying. The environment is just not set up for it at the moment But not yet potentially
Starting point is 01:53:47 That could change But it's also the same thing that Something has to change it for the change. I'm saying so you have a girl like juju that players leave after three, okay I Lot of these girls are coming in to be like one and done. But it's happened. Like they came a year earlier.
Starting point is 01:54:08 I look at it like this. The argument, you guys' argument is the educational stuff, but then doesn't realize there's a group that's doing it, but no one's factored them in. The group that comes from overseas where they can come in at 18. When they're done playing, like someone needs to say, how long have they played? When they're done, you get to
Starting point is 01:54:30 evaluate. You have a group that's coming in at that age and they don't have an education. They don't have college. But what do you do with the players that are super talented but don't have that marketing backing, don't have that NIL backing, but they're more than capable of playing in the W. What are they going to do for the next eight months that the W's not
Starting point is 01:54:49 going on? As far as a girl? As far as a female that can hoop? Yeah. If it's a female that can hoop, I'm sure we know. No, what I'm saying is- Today. What I'm saying is all the girls that came over at 18 and- No, not exactly. They're not making all that money. Just because they're known doesn't
Starting point is 01:55:03 mean that they're making all of that money for them to be able to sustain a life for seven months when they're not in the W. You want to send an 18-year-old girl to Europe by herself? No, I'm just talking about before, when you guys used the scholarship, when you guys used your career, they need a master's and all that stuff, right? And that's usually been the argument. Right. What happens to the Liz Cambridges and all those girls who don't have none of it? They're coming over at 18 19 years old What what is their life looking like? That's who you evaluate enough of those?
Starting point is 01:55:36 players How many over there's not at that age? Because that's the that's a lot of them are drafting stashes, to be honest with you. What's that? They draft them and then they stay. But those girls are not getting cut as fast either, are they?
Starting point is 01:55:55 Because they're so young. They don't come over. Because when they do come over, they get cut. There's a lot of girls in the future that's really good coming up. It could be one and done. But that's what I'm just thinking, because there's a lot of girls in the future that's really good coming up. Yeah. Where it's like, it could be one and done.
Starting point is 01:56:08 But that's what I'm saying. Yeah, like, give them the opportunity to choose. Yeah, that's what I want. I want them to have the opportunity to choose. But there are talented players that aren't going to have that same NIL money coming in, and they're going to leave early. Then what? They're still going to make the rookie salary.
Starting point is 01:56:25 The NIL... In the Juju game? The NIL... Like, Juju would have left. No, I'm saying, have you been... She's selling it out. Yeah, but that's... But she's selling out college.
Starting point is 01:56:36 What if she was in the W? What if she was playing for the Sparks instead? That's what I'm saying. That's the revenue that they're missing. What if Caitlyn was, after last year left, and she was in the W, that revenue? I don't think I understand. There's a very high level of hatred for the W.
Starting point is 01:57:00 I don't know. I don't think I can ever figure out where, but the players don't change when they go from college to the W. People's opinions are different based on a college player to W player. So it's like, yeah, Juju's selling out SC, but you drop her into crypto.
Starting point is 01:57:20 People just disliking the W alone, they're going to be like, I'm not going to that. You hate women women you love kids There's a difference you love 18 You dislike grown women. Yeah, right in a sense. That's why I said it's like For the W they have to understand I get them younger you have to You have to euthanize it the youth is the is what come build another day Yeah, it builds it builds the economy versus the young I mean versus the old You have to euthanize it. The youth is what builds. Conversation for another day. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:45 It builds the economy versus the young. I mean, versus the old. Yeah. Like, I'd rather pay, you know, like a shoe company. I'd rather pay a million, two million to a younger girl than an older girl. Yeah. Because I know the younger one is her audience is 18, 19. But it also is going to help the game, though.
Starting point is 01:58:08 I feel like it's going to help it, though. You have to lose the weight. You got Shaq Darter coming up. She's in it. It's a lot of young girls that I've seen that's like, yo, it's going to talent. The talent has always been there. People are now just paying attention to it, which I appreciate, but it's always been there. The money-making machines have always been there.
Starting point is 01:58:27 Well, it's almost like when you give it the attention that it deserves, you can't have high viewership numbers if they ain't shit to view. But even to shift it back to the men's side, you guys talk about the importance of college, obviously, Kenya. You're coming out as number one draft pick, spending four years at Cincinnati, talking about where you were at your freshman year, where you're at your senior year, but there's so many colleges that the problem becomes like
Starting point is 01:58:50 are you getting that NBA level training at every school that you're going to? I feel like a lot of these guys now, they're just jumping around, shifting around for a bag. Like you said, that short-term bag, it sounds, but if you got somebody with no bread and I can get $500 to a million,
Starting point is 01:59:06 I'm going to fucking take that risk. NIL is for three-year, four-year players. If you're a dude that's, you are supposed to be one and done, two max, your focus is on the NBA, not the NIL because once you start transferring because somebody's offering you the bag you're going to lose yourself just year to year year year to year like there's schools where kids went to certain schools i'm like why would you go there
Starting point is 01:59:36 that has that school doesn't have your game you're about to get lost there yeah do you think when you guys were coming up, right, in college, the early 90s and 2000s, and the way it was, guys still stayed. If you guys had NIL deals, guys would still stay? Stayed at that school? Yeah, like, you know, because usually guys did two or three years, like, you know. No, we were straight out of high school. And mine, it was coming out of high,
Starting point is 02:00:07 high school. Yeah, that's right. You're right. You're right. That rule... That's right. That's right. That's right. What I'm saying, think about an NIL deal for someone like, let's say, Kevin Durant. Right? How much are you going to pay him not to be the number two pick in the draft? That wouldn't even... That's what I'm saying. It's not...
Starting point is 02:00:23 It's not for those guys He they use those guys to push the thing never Zion how much in I owe that Duke is he gonna get for him to go back for a second year him or They know to give them a big RJ Barrett Pros that's the but that's what I think we talked about andIL, we have to take out these super high-earning outliers to have a real legitimate conversation about NIL. For sure. But that's what they use.
Starting point is 02:00:53 They use those guys- Those guys are naming the same four people every time we talk about NIL when there's thousands of college athletes. And that's where the NIL... But that's what I'm saying. Some of these kids, your names are so big that you were supposed to stay put, play, get the fuck out of there. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:01:10 Like Rob, right? Yeah, Rob Dillon. He's not going to really maximize the NIL. Like, people are putting, like, your NIL deal will be... That motherfucker's going to the NBA. He don't give a fuck about what's going on in Kentucky for him to be even worse.
Starting point is 02:01:25 You still are representing a university when you're doing NIL. You're still not really an adult yet. Rules, class. I knew my ass wouldn't last. What, in college? No, just in college. I mean, back then. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 02:01:45 I mean, what's that, 08, 09? Luke Olsen retired. That's not that bad, man. I wouldn't have lasted there. And I just said, NIL, like, really making money as guys who really are not thinking they're going to go pro. And plus, once they get into their third, fourth year. I saw, like, the little Oakland shooter boy do a little promo video on his Twitter for me I like the turbo taxi
Starting point is 02:02:10 But that's what that's who that that's who the NIL is gonna They're gonna get that football is a little different cuz they gotta stay three years, right? So, you know, that's that's the group Yeah, I'm trying to tell my son. Yeah I was just investing my training. NIL, nigga. That's why when you hear these guys like, man, if I was playing in college, man, how my NIL did... Shut up. You would've already been in the NBA, dog.
Starting point is 02:02:33 Yeah. Man, this is for three-year, four-year players who would've been there, got a name for themselves and... Well, that's why it's doing such amazing things for the women's side. Mm-hmm. Because they stay. And they're yeah if i'm a guy that's going that's taking an il deal for one year i'm doing it for my training like invest in my body in college but i mean i'm like give me money too but invest in
Starting point is 02:02:58 like my body my training anyway it's like you know, like extra, I don't know. Because I feel like when I, remember when they opened up the Home Depot Center? Mm-hmm. In Carson? Like when I was at Dominguez, I was training there. And that was the first time
Starting point is 02:03:11 they started doing cross-training and everything. But someone had invested into my career. And that's how I was able to afford it to go. But it's just like stuff like that in high school.
Starting point is 02:03:21 Like, you know, like, investing, like they was investing into my future, but they was making sure I was training. Like, who's the highest paid male? College basketball player? It's Bronny. Probably called you Bronny. Yeah, it's probably Bronny.
Starting point is 02:03:35 Right, but that's, he's coming in with that. But, like, who's got the college and their NIL money just went up out of the roof? Like, I know, I know, I know Rob has been up, but that's just projection. That's projection, but he's not going to be in college long enough to even see that projection because he's going to be a millionaire
Starting point is 02:03:54 being a top five pick. So it ain't even... Like in high school. Like high school, like now, like you had like a ninth, tenth grade, a left, like I would invest in his body. Yeah. Now.
Starting point is 02:04:07 For sure. I mean, but it's those kids, it's parents taking their money. Huh? No, that's what I'm saying. The kids that are, that's going to be going into the draft, they're not getting that money like that because they're going to be out of there. Wait, what you mean they're not getting their money? So they're signing contracts and not getting their money?
Starting point is 02:04:29 Because they don't have bank accounts. They don't got bank accounts. So who do you think is going to? So their parents are getting to it. Yeah. Shit. You got the mic? The bread is not being delivered.
Starting point is 02:04:40 Cash on demand. Who are the highest paying NIO? So I'm looking. Livvy Dune, unez from LSU. They're saying Kalen Clark, Angel Reese, Jared McCain from Duke. Oh yeah, I like him. Yeah, Jared McCain. Is that a projection or evaluation?
Starting point is 02:04:55 Yeah, that's the thing. Nobody's trying to get in people's pockets, but you know, Bronny's getting what he's getting, but he's going to do that regardless. But somebody like Jared, he's entering the draft, most likely. He ain't going to go to college another year. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, the outliers, you got to take them out.
Starting point is 02:05:15 Most of that is going to be the football guys. The Manny, was it one of those in Texas somewhere? Archman. And he about to leave, right? Them dudes will get a bag, dip somewhere else, get the bag, dip. Because he didn't play at all. Huh? He didn't play at all?
Starting point is 02:05:30 That's crazy. They have so much money over there. Get your bread, bud. So he transferred? Yeah, see, so, yeah. And from there, it's going to be the Colorado boys. Side of it. The Colorado boys.
Starting point is 02:05:44 They need to get Oral Watches. I forgot about them. I forgot about them. Travis and Shador. We got Dion coming back very soon. All right, well, let's keep this thing moving and shaking. So let's talk a little bit about the past. MJ's impact on the game cannot be overstated,
Starting point is 02:06:02 despite the attempts of the younger generation to discredit the 80s and 90s era basketball. Jordan hasn't played in over 20 years, still has the hottest shoes in the game. Jalen Rose thinks about time. The league gave MJ the full retirement treatment, so Jalen Rose posted this. He said, number 23 should be retired throughout the entire NBA. Thoughts? So I got in this new panel of basketball scholars here.
Starting point is 02:06:30 Wait, why'd you say MJ? What? Why'd you say MJ? Jordan. He said number 23. He just said number 23. He didn't say Michael Jordan. LeBron James is 23, too.
Starting point is 02:06:41 40,000. So isn't this right after he scored 40,000 points? You know what he talking about about Gil. I don't know Well, I mean, I mean, are you right? Did he did say the number 23 should be retired any shit? Wait, was there any like there was follow-ups where he said it was Jordan Cuz I wrote it I thought yeah you right They should retire LeBron. Because I wrote it. I was like, oh, yeah, you're right. They should retire LeBron James. I wrote it there. Because I wrote it.
Starting point is 02:07:10 I mean, you know, come on. The dude just had 40,000 points, and then you write that. I just assumed. That's, yeah. Just be an asshole. That you are. Yeah. So should Jordan's number 23 be retired by the NBA,
Starting point is 02:07:23 or LeBron's, even for that matter, since he has scored the most points? I mean, listen, I think we should retire so we can put this nigga to bed. So we can just, like, move on. We can't. If they retire the number 23, then that debate is over with, I think. I mean, it's been over, but. The problem is there's been another 23. Right. That's the problem. You should have already done it. Yeah, that's been over, but... The problem is there's been another 23. Right.
Starting point is 02:07:46 That's the problem. You should have already done it. Yeah, that's the problem. Like, you're trying to retire and then Mercedes Jordan... Another really good 23. But a dude had 23 and 40 fucking thousand points and did all this stuff. He wore another number, though. Huh?
Starting point is 02:07:58 He wore another number. They should have did it... Two years. They should have did it... Three years? In Miami. Six. How many years he wore six a few six years zero six years
Starting point is 02:08:08 So they retired number six league-wide for Bill Russell For who Bill Russell Russell? That's I said, it's dude who smeared on his wall by Celtics fans. Oh, I wouldn't even born so I don't care Is this a it's a neither one of us was nobody on this couch That's what it is. It's a we know I mean we understand what he's talking about, right? You know Michael Jordan, but the problem is there's a dude who has a legacy who's fighting to be the goal They got him at two and he also is known for 23 So the problem that's the problem so Vito if you're retiring saying, fuck, I'm retiring it for the both of you guys? So what about not retiring it, but in order to wear number 23, you got to get approval?
Starting point is 02:08:51 No, they should have did it when Pat Riley retired his number. Pat Riley said it a long time ago, though. That's what I said. They waited too long. They waited way too long. Pat Riley said when they got it in Miami. They got his jersey in Miami. That hints why LeBron couldn't wear
Starting point is 02:09:08 Mmm Pat Riley's a stickler stick the man's cookies and did not let over number 23 and then even then he did the six Motherfucker, you can't come back and wear six Yeah, too late wait wait Pat Riley they got six there retired? I think Bill Russell is retired league-wide. In every arena? The number six is retired across the board. Let's start ahead. No, I need to see Bill Russell.
Starting point is 02:09:33 I need to see Bill Russell fucking Jersey in the Raptors. LeBron came off at number six after they made that announcement. So LeBron, Jersey can be retired in Miami. Oh, because it's already retired. It's already pre-tired. So he can't, so Pat Riley, you know, he pulled one of those. I can't retire you. So Pat Riley basically said, whatever you do here, it doesn't matter. Right? So whatever you do here, it doesn't matter. We're just going to use you. You know, boom, boom. And, yeah. Because Pat was so, he was so big on Michael Jordan that. Wait, what did he do?
Starting point is 02:10:10 So, LeBron changed from 23 to 6 in honor of Jordan back in 2010. And then he said, fuck all that. Bringing it back. No, but I mean, he went there with 6. But what I'm saying, it wasn't the honor because 23 was retired where he was going. So we don't give a fuck what you say. We know you can't put 23 on in that uniform because that man personally, that organization retired it. So you had to go to another number.
Starting point is 02:10:36 Was he six in L.A.? He was six. He started six, right? He started six, yep. And he changed to 23. So Cleveland and Lakers will get his jersey retired. M.J. technically 23 Yes, so Cleveland and Cleveland and Lakers will get his jersey retired. So all that said he did in Miami. He won't get nothing for because it's the Jersey After I'm finalist MVP. Yes. No it happened after he left Miami. Yeah, Bill Russell. Yeah, Bill Russell. When did that happen?
Starting point is 02:11:05 They retired six in Miami. Huh? They retired LeBron James, and I don't remember. So they're just going to have two sixes up there? I think his number is not hanging up in the rafters. Just nobody can wear it. Oh, nobody can wear it now? Yeah.
Starting point is 02:11:17 Who, Bill? Six. Oh, it's not, yeah. Oh, okay. Because KJ had six when they announced it. If KJ would have went somewhere and they wanted six again, he could get it because he was grandfathered in when they made okay So if you had the six already had six when they made the rule you
Starting point is 02:11:31 Passed away July 2022, so I think was in the aftermath of that Right yes throughout the league, but it's not hanging up. Okay. Okay, so like there's nobody can baseball. Yeah like 42 Okay, it's like 42 in baseball yeah and brown was 23 in la switched to six then switched back to 23 so we're six one he should change his number he should change his number and then just a whack number yeah yeah just have like a weird random number like that was a rule you had to wait a couple years didn't it wasn't it yeah they had that back you had to wait you had to put like a Like if you wanted to switch your jersey like in the summer So if I said, I don't want to be this number next year to tell him. Yeah. Yeah. I think you did it for ad
Starting point is 02:12:17 Because ad was also a 23 from not mistaken But ad just said I'm a ride. I would so so So they can't so basically they can't retire 23 because of Take I mean they can how they did Bill Russell. Thank you do whatever they want. I mean, I mean they can retire it It's like kind of random. I mean Just be like there's gonna be you know assholes like me. I says that's that's That's the brawn number 23. That ain't yours There's no what color Jersey there's a bronze 23 that ain't there's no what color Jersey
Starting point is 02:12:56 And how old you are? It's like both of our budget kids who don't think brown over MJ Yeah, they're just like the mellow and the mellow thing. It's crazy Mellow is lamello now ain't the regular metal no no more to come off there you say mellow they like My mellow, you know what mellow I'm talking about. It's like no no they like nah Love mellow is the mellow now. Yeah, that's the Like butter His name that's it horrible. I mean just to think about it though like you Can't publicly say you retire in this person's jersey when there's another one who worked And put up numbers to that. Yeah, and I got a whole generation for 20 years. Yeah for 20 years
Starting point is 02:13:38 So late for 21 21 years this generation knows this dude. That's 21 years right now in counting Yeah, even though he played in a whole nother number It's 23. It's still active and still playing out, but he he bought the lead at a high level though Still making the playoffs at 40 almost 40 like You know still willing his team to greatness saying I'm gonna play 40,000 the Laker uniform that helped helped. That image just alone, though. I want to see.
Starting point is 02:14:06 I just want to see if they do it. How they going to get it off? How they going to frame it to make it make sense? Yeah, how they going to frame it. To make it make sense, just to randomly be like, okay, we're going to. I mean, it would be smart if they're like, for these two players, we're going to. I'm rolling. You just can't make it a Michael Jordan thing I just that's just that's just gonna be hard
Starting point is 02:14:27 they don't burn that shit down right just like oh you know with LeBron and Michael Jordan at the one and two you don't say who's one and two just like had the one and two best players ever only person that's gonna be mad is McKenzie we just gonna retire this number know, for these two players. Y'all can do what you want with this information. Let's keep this thing moving on to Mostly Fans. Presented by Underdog Fantasy. Download the app.
Starting point is 02:14:55 Use promo code GILD. They will give you a $100 first-time deposit match and a free pick-em as a thank you for joining the Underdog Fantasy movement. They could retire. It's not like nobody wear that number anyway. 23 and like that. Yeah, 23 and like that. Say that again.

Starting point is 02:15:21 To wear 23 is like, you know, it's like somebody walking in with 23. I feel like once Bron retires, you know, it's like somebody walking in with 23 I feel like once brown retires you can it's like 24 when you see 24 You're like you better be him or 30 you better be able to shoot like that 22 you 22 you better shoot like that. Starting point is 02:16:15 Yeah, there's a few numbers that have like a persona attached to them. No, for sure. Because when you see him in the gym, you're like, oh, he must be not. And then you look at layup lines like, uh. So like 21 in football, Deion, you must be not and then you look at layup lines Uh, so like 21 and football Dion you got to be primetime Yeah, anyone is like 23 was like if you had it in structure like he had to be good It was at the park. He should have said it right when he saw her.
Starting point is 02:23:06 No. That's all right. He had to hit it first. But they let everybody else, everyone else tapped out early, except for him. She turned around and he like, ooh, okay, maybe. You know what I mean? Yeah, but he see the- I knew he was going to say no when she walked up to the altar and he said, okay,

I can't I'd rather play spades But the cycle the part that intrigues me is it like psychological part behind of why people gain all that weight it's very sad Is all balanced it's very it's a comedy to me it's called a scale
Starting point is 02:24:21 Before we get booted off the air. It's not comedy to me. That motherfucker's stupid. Boot it off YouTube. It's comedy. You're just watching them. They got to wheel them into the van and wheel them out of the van. The doctor, the doctor. One fall. The doctor is funny. That's a little bump. Like, oops. One lady, one lady. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. See, I'm going to be wishing he fall out, right? The only reason why that particular moment was funny because he was so mean to everybody
Starting point is 02:25:58 trying to help him. He fell off that golf cart and everyone was like, I don't care. See, now they got a crane. Now they got to crane him up. See, I'm going to be wishing he falls. That's it. Just to see how long the delay is. That's an insane show.

Oh, it was further? It was 24 feet. Yeah. Another, yeah.
Starting point is 02:29:14 Long range game. Another exhilarating day. Yeah, we're aiming to shoot for him now. That was the normal three-point line. I don't know why it was so bad. Another exhilarating day at Gills Arena presented by Underdog Fantasy. Appreciate the whole crew pulling up. We had a full house today, but that's why Jordan made five threes and that three-pointer is further
