Starting point is 00:00:34 I'm Dr. Joy. and this is Therapy for Black Girls. We spend our surviving middle school run getting into what's happening inside your kids' brain, the group chats, and their friendships, and what you can do about it. Your child is not doing this on purpose. That's the kind of perspective we've been pulling
Starting point is 00:00:49 from the psychologists and psychiatrists who studied this for a living. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hi, I'm Michael and Perioli. I want to tell you about my new podcast, Underground Zero. We're looking at the opportunity
Starting point is 00:01:05 of a lifetime for us and the other families. It's about the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks. What's in the tunnels? Gold bars, silver ingots. It could be worth half a billion. Starring Steve Sharipa, Rea Abruzzo, and me, Michael Imperioly. How far you're prepared to go? Depends how far you are.
Starting point is 00:01:22 Listen to Underground Zero on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On recent episodes of the Questlove show, I chatted with Jojo about her music and Wallow 267 about his story, everything in between. Don't invite me to karaoke. I'm going to make it weird. Someone's going to try to sing, leave it out, or too little, too late, or baby it's you. Oh, no. And I'm going to be like, okay, cool.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Check out my conversation with JoJo, Wilo 267, and more on the Questlove show. Listen to the Questlove show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Peace. Hey, it's Alec Baldwin. This season on my podcast, Here's the Thing. actor Stephen Root. I'm a people watcher. You see that guy going down the dream.
Starting point is 00:02:09 Yeah, I can use that. And Open Igloo co-founder, Alia Mohamed. I love staying on top of what is going on in our city, what is on renter's minds, and taking all of that knowledge to build a platform that hopefully is going to make New York City better in the long run. Listen to Here's the Thing on the IHeart Radio app Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Well, let's shift all. That's all we want to know at this point in time. All the numbers are running up.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Chris Christmas Day numbers, they only going to keep going on. He's going to play on Christmas. Let's ship back over to the Western Conference. So the Dallas Mavericks held Media Day today. Dallas Mavericks? The Dallas Mavericks. Man, if you don't get that fuck on, man.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Kyrie coming back. Kyrie Irby. Let me have to listen to the Utah shit last. Nobody cares about no. You got the rundown in advance. You think I'll look at Dallas Mavericks out of everything. That's going on. Mavs were holding media day to start training camp tomorrow ahead of their participation in the China games during the NBA preseason.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Mavs seem to be back on the right track after dealing with the fallout from the Luca Dantra trade. They listened to the fans and fired former GM Nico Harrison early last season after three and eight start. With Missa Yuiri taking over as president. Former Michigan National Championship coach Dusty May replaces Jason Kidd as head coach. Cooper Flagg injures his sophomore season after. becoming the second youngest rookie of the year. Flagg averaged 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists. Set multiple rookie records last season,
Starting point is 00:03:41 including becoming the youngest player to ever drop of 50-piece in a game while joining Michael Jordan as the only rookies to lead their team in points, rebounds, assists, and steals in a season. Flagg will have some help now with Kyrie Irving returning from an ACO injury, which has sidelined him since March of 2025. Combined that with the hopeful return of Derek lively and a supporting cast that includes Daniel Gafford, PJ Washington,
Starting point is 00:04:02 Former Grizzis Santi Aldama, who I like, good pickup, Naji, Marshall, former number one overall pick, Zachalrii, Rissachet. Caleb, Mark, Max, Chrissy, and lottery pick, Mores Johnson, Jr. from Michigan. Mazz will, at worst, be intriguing. Dan, let's start with you. You're always level-headed. Gilles a header. Intriguing is a word. You're intriguing.
Starting point is 00:04:20 How much of a leap? Let's talk with the face of franchise. How much of a leap will Cooper Flag taking your two? You're not fucking with Cooper Flay. You need to be, for them to be competitive, he has to take a leap. but I just don't see it. I love Maasai being there. I think he's going to change some things.
Starting point is 00:04:36 It's going to take some time. Dusty made a great head coach. Got one of his younger guys from Michigan there. But this is Cooper's team right now. They're not in winning mode. To me, they're not winning right now. Do Kyrie a favor and get them somewhere else. Start over, you know, get younger, get some...
Starting point is 00:04:57 Get some pieces. Get some other pieces that align with Cooper Flagg. Kyrie does help. He helps any team, right? So the team will make a jump, but if they want to still, like, be more than just competitive, Cooper Flag is going to have to be very good for them to be, like, in playoff talks at all. Because right now they're, I'd say, bottom playing at best. I mean, flag, 19 years old. Which is probably good for them, right?
Starting point is 00:05:23 You're thinking about, like, where they finished last year. Yeah, no more tanking. You know, you can't tank. is this squad assembled to really benefit what you're trying to do with them? Right? Because last year, I think that, you know, Dallas, they just kind of played healthy, skilter, right? And obviously the flag was the guy.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Yeah, but they also shut down, which allow for a young dude to have so much fun because, like, it ain't really no stakes to winning. So you're just out here bawling, trying to get right now. What Nick wanted to do. You know what? Yeah. Now, you got some pressure. Okay, you got Kyrie back.
Starting point is 00:06:06 I would say with Dallas, it's more a patient thing. Like, if you can move Kyrie, I will move Kyrie somewhere where he can go be successful. I go get some pieces. And you think about you may be in that play in, but you get the right pieces. You could be in that fourth, fifth spot in the next, maybe even a contender. you know, but it depends on how, how is Cooper flag going to be used with PJ Washington, lively, Gafford, a lot of dudes that are like in his position or in spaces that don't really compliment how you want to use him.
Starting point is 00:06:45 You know, like, because he's a versatile player, so like go get, go build a team around it, is what I'm saying, because that, that's mostly the Luca team still. you still got spillovers from the, from the Luca team and those dudes who complimented him. I mean, I'm just thinking about teams where Kyrie would fit. What do you, I mean, Detroit could really use. Detroit would be great. I know the combo guard helped fade out some. Still figuring out that Jalen Dern situation.
Starting point is 00:07:19 Toronto could use a point guard. I mean, they got quick there. He's still young, but like, you know, match up somebody with Kauai to release him. some of that pressure. Lakers? Him with Luca again? I don't know. You gave Austin that bag.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I mean, anybody can use Kai. It went to the chip. What do you give me? That's a one, two, three. Clippers. That'd be a lot of, again, that's back to the three-headed snake of everybody, those guys need to fall with Austin, Luca, and Kai. I think Kai, obviously, I heard him talk earlier today, just, you know, talking about,
Starting point is 00:07:49 but talked about being out last season, how much you just appreciates the game, how much kind of need that injury to refocus is like. I understand that importance of it. But you got Cooper Flagg, who's a Duke guy. You got Derek Lively's coming back this season, who's a Duke guy. You got Kyrie who's a Duke guy. I feel like something with that Duke Brotherhood. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:04 But Kyrie gets to go out there and cook too. So the team might not be that good, and I understand what you guys are saying. A lot of teams can benefit from having them. This is also an opportunity for him to take Cooper Flag under his wing. And I think that's an interesting duo on the court together for as long as they're going to be together. Well, you got a dominant score, right? And Kyrie, like, he can score to basketball, and he's that, I'm that, I'm that, that option one, right? Because you don't really have any offensive inefficiencies. And Cooper
Starting point is 00:08:32 Fly can be that playmaker, that too, but I still think that they're not going to win because to your point, you kind of need a big dude in this era to be like that one B or two to take a lot of pressure off whoever the primary ball handler is. Plus or big men, but none of them are like superstar. You got lively over there, Gafford. They're solid. DJ at the four. They got some pieces, but again, no big superstar. I mean to cut you off.
Starting point is 00:09:00 No, that's good. Yeah, Kai, he still got some good years left. Yeah, yeah, he's still dynamic. The end of his career, like, he needs to be the vet role. Like, I don't mind that for him. But, like, yeah, he's able to still give to the game and win and help a team get over the home. So he was in a spot like a Toronto, Miami, you know, the teams that need a point guard, And he had, you know, a couple more years of doing it.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Then that toward end of his career, figure out where you want to retire. Yeah. Whether it's Cleveland or wherever, you know, then you could be that vet, take some young guys under your wing and then go that route. I agree. You ain't fucking with Dallas. I agree. I'm sorry. Harry Irving.
Starting point is 00:09:52 I'm just saying it. Like, look last the map. We talked about the last. because it was like that spillover of Lucas so we wanted to see. Lucas, we moved on. But Kyrie Beck. I thought we was trading him. I thought we'd get to trade him somewhere.
Starting point is 00:10:08 We should. Like I don't think any of us expected him to feel that. Yeah, it's like you got half the... We're just waiting for the news to break. Shams, hurry up. Shit. Because I swear to God we're not going to be talking about a T. That's going to be last place all year.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Not last place, good. They're going to be a last. All right. It's in their best interest to be the last one more year and get another one more star. Yeah. Because ain't no way. I'm sorry, but I get what Adam Silver's doing.
Starting point is 00:10:41 I get it, right? Tanking is bad. Mm-mm-mm. But it seems like it's been very good for every team who's done it. Yeah. Yeah. When Houston did it
Starting point is 00:10:57 Look where they are now Utah about to be like that this year Utah Spurs Everybody who's Charlotte O'CCCC Everybody who's done Get better doing the job
Starting point is 00:11:09 You get better in the job Math's picks going to Charlotte But it's top two protected So if they get more or two That's what we're going to do I just bought this thing So if they get three Just the rules of change though
Starting point is 00:11:21 I just bought the team If you're dead last now you get penalized for being dead last. For being sorry. You get less. Does it start this year or next year? I think it's like. 2027.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I still got two more years. The fuck. This summer comes. This draft. This draft. 2027 draft. But no, okay, I get this.
Starting point is 00:11:40 So I'm going to, I'm Dallas. So you can tank this year. I'm going to take this number one or number two pick. I think tanking is. I'm going to take this number one or two people. I mean, it's all just a figure to figure of speed. Just like it was. Like, you're not that good enough.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Yeah. They're good enough to win a lot of these games. I don't think the Jazz can be asked anymore. It wouldn't benefit them to tank. Hey, listen. We're not good enough to win a lot of games. I'm just saying we've got guys coming back from injury. It can't be bottom three.
Starting point is 00:12:05 They got to be above bottom three. Next year. If they were bottom three. No, this year is in the 2027. This is when the new anti-tanky grab. Wait, wait, but what I'm saying is. Like the weighted, weighted lottery and all that bullshit. Whoever was in.
Starting point is 00:12:18 So whoever has the worst record at the end of this season. It does not. They don't get penalized this year. Yeah. 2027 draft this something 26 27 this is this year it starts but what I'm saying is winning your backlog of loses count but it's it's the new format you yes but what is that what does that mean starts this year three two one lottery you have the worst the worst record yeah three worst record teams are placing relegation zone with reduced lottery odds yeah oh so they reduced the odds
Starting point is 00:12:46 if you're the bottom three you can still get the number one to go four through 10 I think is you want to be above the bottom three, I think, because you lose a percent. You lose more lottery ball. You want to go 4 through 10. If you want to finish 4 through 10th, worst record. You don't want to be the booboist.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Yeah. So, all right, so 4 through 10, you will get the same amount. You will get more lottery ball from one on tree? You have the best odds in 4 through 10, and then you got the playing teams and the other ones that get reduced odds as well. They get reduced odds. Oh. So people, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:19 So you got to fight the spots, yeah. That's killing. That's killing. That's killing. Hey, that's killing. It's just a different... It's like that last game of the season, man.
Starting point is 00:13:29 You're going to have to duke it out. You're going to have to duke it out. Man, I can't finish in the bottom three. That's killer. They should have just had a little tournament and let the bottom four play in the tournament. Whoever win the tournament, get the most lottery ball. That's what I said.
Starting point is 00:13:44 I said, whoever, like, out of the worst, the way off. Because then you get to see like, oh, shit that rookie that was killing all year and he played on a terrible team. Like, at least he get a chance to like turn up. Yeah, the Titans are the top eight.
Starting point is 00:13:59 Y'all get y'all playoffs. The bottom? The playoffs from the way off. Y'all are fighting for the number one pick. Y'all fighting for lottery balls. Yes. No, fuck lottery balls. The number one.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Whoever wins the championship, you get the number one pick. That's crazy. Because you know what happens at the end? As much as I was kind of tanking, now all the players I told not to play. Oh, I need y'all back to play now. I need y'all to play so we can win this tournament so I get the number one pick as a franchise. So you can get my replacement?
Starting point is 00:14:25 Yeah. They get, yeah. That's going to about into it. Because in them deals, you're like, man. You're going to get the number one pick and replace me. I'm still hurt. I'm still hurt. You add the money incentives like playing season like tour.
Starting point is 00:14:41 That's crazy. I like that. I like that. Got also play. So back to Kairo quick, Kyrie, player option this summer, sign that three-year extension with the math man, they let him chill. They let him chill last season, recover.
Starting point is 00:14:52 But I'm saying they gave him bread, basically. Yeah, he's ready to. If you're Dallas, what is... You at least got to go out of those seasons. The new guy who's coming in, obviously, is not basketball mine. Yeah, that's my...
Starting point is 00:15:04 Yeah, that's another issue. Yeah. So he... But the fact that he gave away Luca, like, you give away a talent like that, really anybody can go, right? So why am I holding on to Kyrie and in Lucas' past
Starting point is 00:15:19 if I'm trying to move on because what I do know is when I when you inherit something just like a house. Yeah, you want to blow it up. You change that. You try to get rid of everything. You want to blow it. So it's your shit. Right. So it just got you more time to it, value more time.
Starting point is 00:15:34 I just drafted Cooper flag. That's my guy. Right? Cuban, Luca was your guy. Dirk's your guy. This is my draft pick. This is my guy. So I needed to benefit him.
Starting point is 00:15:48 I needed to benefit him. This is his legacy with me. This is our legacy together. So holding on to Kai and somebody like that, I got to try to figure out how to get rid of them now. Right? I mean, you know, let me see where I can get you. There's some young pieces over there.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Hey, do you like somebody over there? Like, you know, we got to try to build this together. Yeah. Right? So holding on to Kai to the middle of the season, like where am I going to be in the middle of the road, winning too many games. Or are you using for that vet,
Starting point is 00:16:18 you know, that vet presence to build the camaraderie. Kai get to be in that lead role. Cooper Flagg get the right shotgun with him, you know, and then turn it over. Maybe that work. But you do have to, if you're the president
Starting point is 00:16:33 and you got a new coach, then like, what is that new coach coming to the organization saying to Cooper Flagg? And what is he saying to Kai Ri? Right? And then like, what is his vision for what he inheriting
Starting point is 00:16:49 because as a coach is like, oh shit, I'm going to go this way instead of, you know, leaning on a superstar vet. I think the only problem obviously at Dusty May, no previous,
Starting point is 00:17:00 Dusty May was at Michigan winning national championship in Michigan, no previous NBA experience. So what I will say, what Kyrie, it seems like the man's going to let him rock out to start the season, potentially up his trade value.
Starting point is 00:17:10 If it's not going the way that they wanted to go, now they have the leverage to get more for him. Up his trade value, I'm pretty sure anybody's going to give you whatever you need for Kyrie. Yeah, for Tyree.
Starting point is 00:17:20 They don't want to see anything. Superstars have been going for the low these days, man. Because everybody dumb. Everybody dumb. Like, think about it. You just got a coach, what's the name? Dusty Man. That's why.
Starting point is 00:17:33 You hire a niggas that you just, can he play in Atlanta? Can Kai play in Atlanta? Yeah, I mean, was CJ still there? Yeah. Him and CJ can play. But you have to move, CJ. Go go with Luke.
Starting point is 00:17:45 But my point is, is there's some concern or doubt of Kyrie is. still Kyrie. So now you get to see Kyrie on the court, see, still Kyrie. There's no concern Kyrie's not going to be Kyrie. Oh, Kyrie going to kill. I got to do with that, but I'm with you. If it's a gym, you've got to do some due diligence to see what he looks like after
Starting point is 00:18:01 needs to. I have my spur cap on, Gil, not my. I fuck with Kyrie. Well, most of these surgeries do what? Stop you from jumping. But you got to test. Hey, my fucking ain't do that anyway. If you're the president and you're coming in and you didn't draft Cooper
Starting point is 00:18:16 flag, right? You didn't, you weren't the president. Yeah. Masad was not there with him. Yeah, he was not there. So I'm coming in looking at the team and saying, okay, what do we have? I need to see what we got to see where we need to move forward. I got a new coach.
Starting point is 00:18:30 So the new coach, like, my main concern is like you come in from college to the pros and how are you going to interact with dudes who've been professional playing on this level for 10 years? You know what I mean? That's going to be the most critical thing for Dusty May. It's like, how are you talking to Kai? What kind of standard you're going to set for the vets? And then, you know, who are you going to coach hard? And are they going to be willing to be coach hard coming from a college situation where it was like, you know, you run this, like the coach run the show in college.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I never. I. The coach don't run the show necessarily in the league. You got to have complete, you know, you know what I mean? You got a bunch of young guys. They'll conform. You got a vet in there that's been in there around for a while. It'll be a little tougher.
Starting point is 00:19:22 But, like, how is he going to use, Kyle? You know what I mean? How is he going to use them? Like, who, who are you? Right? What is your system? You did in college. Did you have a nigga like me?
Starting point is 00:19:33 Did you have a superstar that can do what I can do? So what is your offense? Because obviously you don't have an NBA offense. You have the shit that you know. So when you're- It's all new. It's all new. It's all coming in like a new plan, new game plan.
Starting point is 00:19:46 So, like, how is Cooper Flag going to be used? How am I going to use Kyrie? And then who else do I need to include and who I need to be thinking about as a coach as far as how we're going to score the basketball, how we running the offense through? Because they may start running the offense through Kyrie to start the season
Starting point is 00:20:04 as the more potent score and let Cooper Flag be a playmaker. But, like, you know, put them out there. We should have been talking then in the summer then. we should have been talking in the summer so I know what you're trying to run do you even know what I do right they've communicated
Starting point is 00:20:23 no and I ain't know fuck that communication I remember when I did the we did the Princeton we did the Princeton we was bumping heads that first year he gave me the playbook he said this is the playbook this is my offense figure out how you're going to score
Starting point is 00:20:40 inside of this offense bet grab that book Sorry, looking at these plays, right? Looking at them, seeing how they move. Watch Jason Kitt. I'm not like that. Watch Bibby. I'm more like Bibby than I am him.
Starting point is 00:20:54 So let me see how Bibby manipulated. So I know where to go without messing anybody else up, right? Inside of his office. That's what you have to do, right? Because you're bringing in something. You're not looking at my talent. You're not looking at my talent and creating an offense around me. You're going off from what you know.
Starting point is 00:21:10 It's your shit. So, you know, when I remember when we got flip, Saunders, he's coming up. coming here with that Detroit Pistons, Chauncee Billups, come off the pick and roll, and they're going to pin down and bring that, we're going to pass that. Yeah, 4'57 or something. So when I come off this pick and roll and I got the motherfucker right here by myself, I can't take them, I got to stop my motion, then have this guy come off.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Yeah, we need you to take, you know, five, six, seven less shots. The Rip Hamilton. Who's going to take them? Who's going to take my shots then? We even got that capability. It makes the game not fun. It's just you can't pre-playing what. you're going to do. You've got to see what your talent
Starting point is 00:21:46 does. That's the bad part about coaches sometimes. You are pre-packaging your stuff, but you don't fully know all your talent. You don't even know, like, I need to see everybody play, come up to pick up
Starting point is 00:22:02 games, and I'm sitting there as a coach like, all right, oh, I don't know he can do that. Let me go ahead, I might need to draw a little bit of plays for him. I thought, because the way the last coach played him, I thought he just, I just thought he was a Spot-up shooter, no, he get the wiggle to him. He can't pull, oh, he can post up, Joe.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Now, he can't go and do it. He can't go in the locker room. He can and say what JJ Redick is saying to these guys, but, like, you ain't gave these guys a chance to prove who they are and who they can be for what even your system is. I'm sure, you know, I'm sure that they hired the right person, right? But at the same time, you don't know if the right system and philosophy fit with the person you hire it, with the players that you coach it, with the superstars
Starting point is 00:22:49 that you got to get on the same page to get all the buy-in. So, you know, good luck to Duss-Clayer. I know he's a smart, a smart dude, but it's a lot of moving parts. So back to what you were saying and what Joe was saying, you got to put everything out there for the beginning of the season to see what you got. So then the president and the new people in order can say, all right, we need to take it this direction. These two people could stay, but if we can get something else for them, it may be more complimentary to the direction of Cooperville.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Yeah. So if you're, if you're them, you're just washing, this is just basically. Well, you just say, you're going to take. You just play everybody and we see what we see what we got. See what you got before the deadline. As a first time coach, I mean, they're not asking him to come in and get us to the playoffs and win. And all they coming in asking them to like, what are you asking? to make sure Cooper flag average
Starting point is 00:23:43 to get right to put bus in the seats I mean lucky for them there's a lot of teams have a lot to figure out because everybody's moved every fucking way
Starting point is 00:23:52 there's a lot of coaches that were hired or move different places so but yeah I mean it makes sense to put Kai out there just to see what he looks like
Starting point is 00:23:59 and also get his value up if you wanted to move him the long loading times the glitchy video calls that's your house asking for better internet switch to Bell Pure Fiber Canada's most
Starting point is 00:24:14 reliable internet awarded by Open Signal from $75 a month. Price guaranteed for two years on a two-year term and auto pay credit. Visit bell.ca for more details and to check availability. Bell, connection is everything. By age 11 or so, at least 70% have a phone. Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in. I'm Dr. Joy, and this is therapy for black girls. We spend real time on it in our surviving middle school run,
Starting point is 00:24:45 bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now. So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological and psychological chaos happening all of the same time. We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying, and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust. There's belonging. You could think of belonging as I can be myself and I can still be accepted. and then there's fitting in. Spitting in says I have to change who I am in order to avoid rejection. Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers,
Starting point is 00:25:22 sitting down with therapists Keir Gaines on Black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage. You don't have on shorts, so you can't do flips, you have on the dress, so you have to cross your legs. That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the fathers doing the work at home. You have to get off her device, but the reality is there's a lot of life out there
Starting point is 00:25:40 that we don't want you as your adults in their lives to miss out on. This has been our surviving middle school run. Here's the thing I'm speaking with more artists, policymakers, and performers like actor Stephen Root. I think for me to be any good or for any character,
Starting point is 00:26:10 director to be any good. You've got to put enough of yourself and your empathy for people in it. I'm a people watcher. You see that guy going down the dream and go, yeah, I can use that. Open Igloo co-founder, Alia Mohamed. I love staying on top of what is going on in our city, what is going on in city politics, what is on renter's minds, and taking all of that knowledge to build a platform that hopefully is going to make New York City better in the long run. And actress and singer Melissa Eriko. Partnership took on a whole other meaning when I started making my own work.
Starting point is 00:26:45 It's like you with a great actress or actor. It was best to come out of your trailer, full of life, and just face another person who's full of life and don't talk. Some of the best conversations were the biggest names in the game. You had a little bit more pressure to be good. And they didn't care if you was a girl. Like, you wasn't getting no points because you were the girl. If you're not trash, you better be not just good.

On rock silent, we talk in the rap legends, hit-making producers, rising stars from the golden era to the future of this hip-hop game, where we keep it 100% unfiltered and keep. It's nothing but rock solid. Yeah. The thing about Jay, my opinion, is he's been so great at being seen but mysterious. You know what I'm saying? He don't got to come talk about nothing.
Starting point is 00:27:52 You figure it out. So it's always a mystique and mysteriousness behind them, but it ain't like you don't see him. Starting point is 00:29:09 All right, well, sufficient Mavs discourse. Everybody out there, appreciate y'all pulling up the show. Make sure you hit that like button. Subscribe to the channel, trying to see if the like button still works. Hit the like button right now. We got one last piece of business with the Mavs. Time to try and finesse some bread on Polly Market. This is Put That on Something.
Starting point is 00:29:26 We're going to give you a trade on the Polly Market app, and you've got to pick a side and put that on something. So Mav's looking to bounce back from a disappointing season, which saw them finish 12th in the West, record of 26 and 56. So let's take a look at the MAPS projected win to over this game this season, 35 games
Starting point is 00:29:42 26 last season, 35, you got a new and approved Cooper flag drawing comparisons to LeBron James in terms of the leap. He'll be able to put up up LeBron S numbers in his rookie season. Set numerous rookie records. We got here getting buckets.
Starting point is 00:29:58 I don't know. I don't know. Mast's wild with a ton of fours. It's a lot on whether Kyrie's or not, but I still don't see 30s. 72% of traders think that they will hit that threshold 35 games. It's 36, right? 36, excuse me.
Starting point is 00:30:11 They might get like 34. Or 35, they've got to get at least 35 and then they're good. Okay. So 35. And 66% of traders think that they will fall short. 35 will put them above the bottom three, right? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:30:23 I don't know if they get there, man. 35, Cooper Flats. The main event. Did they finish 12th last year? 12th in the West. How many teams in the West? They had 26. They had 26.
Starting point is 00:30:32 They had 16. Yeah, yeah, they'd do it. They had 26. Yeah, they're going to finish four. They're going to finish in the upper year. They're going to be in that rain. Still could be less than 35 games, though. It is not in the West.
Starting point is 00:30:48 No, that means somebody got to be so bad that they win seven. They won 26 games last year. Yeah, who had the worst record? In the West. Wasn't it Utah? I was in there. New Orleans is in there, I think. Yeah, what they win, like 17 and 8?
Starting point is 00:31:04 So they won 26 last year and was 12. 12th in the West, 26 games last year. Tied with the Pelicans, or 12th in the West who also won 25 games. What was 36? 36. 36 would put them, so the Warriors won 37 games last year. I don't put it in the playing.
Starting point is 00:31:21 So 11 through 15, nobody had over 26 wins. And then the Warriors had 36 games in the playing. So it was an 11 win difference between the 10th and 11th. 11th. 11th. 11th. But you got the Grizzies who should be asked this season. You got the Kings
Starting point is 00:31:36 who historically will be asked? I still, nah. Wait. They're not getting 36 wins. Pelicans? No, Pelicans are going to be cooking. They're going to win now. They've got a win now.
Starting point is 00:31:48 It might be interesting, yeah. They got a win now. Yeah, 35 seems. It's right there. It's either you're going to be in the 20s or you're going to be 36. If they're 35, they're definitely in the playing, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:00 That's why I'm not thinking. No, 35 does not get you playing. They don't. 37. Warriors were 37, they were in 10th. So you got to boot the Warriors down too. So that's playing. That's you fighting for a playing.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Yeah. Fing for playing. I'm saying, nah. You got P.J. Utah got better. You got PJ Washington. You got. New Orleans got better.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Well, I do. Got Kyrie coming back. And I got a better Cooper flag. I don't have a rookie club. I got a Cooper flag that inherited a lot of extra. Kyrie gets you 15 wins by itself. Kyrie gets you 15 wins by itself. Cooper flag gets you 10 to 15 wins by itself.
Starting point is 00:32:38 I don't predict Kyrie being there for the whole season. They have 30 minutes. They're not getting 30. He got to get him by MLK Day. He got to get him by MLK Day. He got to move on his way. 25. Like, you can pencil him in for 20, 25 wins for the season, just off performance alone.
Starting point is 00:32:53 I think coming back, you got to get, you got to make that number. I'm going to 36. You think 36 wins? Every time we've done it's going, by and large, you have always taken the higher number on the win project. Everybody can't get all those wins. All the friends are not. Somebody got to be asked. It's just like gambling.
Starting point is 00:33:07 All the fans take the under. I always think about overtime. Well, thank me. This is a prediction. It's an extra. This is a prediction market. I'm just saying. I'm just saying, I'm taking the...
Starting point is 00:33:18 Shout out to Polly Market. You're under. I'm the greatest. Fight at the end. You got to think about that. Fight at the end. I can't be in the bottom three. I got to fight at the end.
Starting point is 00:33:25 I got to get to four. I got to get to, yes. I have to get to at least four. I'm not. So I have to... How many they went last year? 26 and 56. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:33 They got to win 10 more. Yeah, they get it. I think they go over. Cooper flagged, the main event, so that was put that. They're definitely going to win more than 20. You would think Kyrie's going to stay there the whole season? He wouldn't play last year. And they won 206.
Starting point is 00:33:45 He's not playing this year either. He's going to be gone. No, no. So from 26, my thought is you at least going to be six games better. They. Kyrie is going to start the season. They played Clay and AD last year. They actually tried to play in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Wait, hold on. They played against Memphis and lost in the playing. They were trying to win those next couple of years. They made it in the plane? They got lucky. The year they got Cooper Flagg, yeah. Yeah, 80s?
Starting point is 00:34:10 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They were trying. Again, Kyrie ain't going to be there all year. That was their fault. But that was the year before. That's 2025. Yeah, but either way, they're not, Kyrie's not going to beat their whole season.
Starting point is 00:34:21 And that was... It depends on the coach. Kari ain't going to beat her. I don't get with it. Kari ain't going to be their all season. But until he's there. If Kari played the first 20 games. They're going to win 36 games in 20 days?
Starting point is 00:34:31 No, no, no, no, no, no, dog. This is what I'm saying. Cooper flag going to get you 15, right? 15, if he's killing, you can pencil him in for 20. If Kyrie play the first 20 games, right, Kyrie can at least get you. They're going to get up to a hot start. He can at least, no, no, no, no, let's just shut the shit.
Starting point is 00:34:49 You'll at least win eight of those. Let's shut this shit down. They start off. Houston, Indiana, Spurs, Miami, OKC. Houston. The Houston. By Christmas. They got Sacramento and Spurs the game.
Starting point is 00:35:06 He will be there for 20 games. At least. And I hit that list. Did you hear that list? Yes. Good. That's not a Fielberg's fault, though. They got the all the elite.
Starting point is 00:35:17 When you're going to December, you got eight wins. No. They got to try to give him a next goal. He's gone by Christmas. And they're not getting 20 before Christmas. Shouldn't mean? They got 26 last year. Kingsbrook.
Starting point is 00:35:29 No. He's Brooklyn Clippers. No way to justify it. Not happening. Bro, this, this is the road. If Kyrie stays the whole year, I'm predicting he's not, then there's a possibility. October and November is rough.
Starting point is 00:35:43 What if he stays half the year? Before I'll start weekend, how many games they got? I'm saying no. 40, he's going to give you. Yeah, you ain't going to hit that number. That was put that on something. Yeah, yeah. Presented by Polymarketing.
Starting point is 00:35:58 You're right. You're right. Download the Polymark. Market app, use coat arena to get $50 in bonus funds when you deposit just $10. Make your next move, your best move, and join the revolution. Polymarket, no limits, no house, instant cash outs, the most accurate sports odds and forecast in the world. So we got a lighter, Greg, that I want to get your guys' opinion on.
Starting point is 00:36:16 So Rock is big man, Steven Adams, ready to make a comeback after a season was cut short in January by an ankle injury. Adams was all smiles during Rockets Media Day, but did heed a strong warning for the sports community? Gil, you appreciate this. I see you looking at me right now. You appreciate this one. So normally sports leagues are concerned with performance enhancing drugs, but Adam's more worried about a performance reducing drug, hitting the market that will surely decrease productivity across the sports world come November.
Starting point is 00:36:41 I will say you guys should anticipate November. The performance of the league, league-wide. GTA is dropping. So I look at NFL, look at all the leagues, and watch them plummet, mate. The month of November, performance is going to go down. It should come back up, though. Most of the boys will get it done. But hopefully they finish the game.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Coaching as well, by the way. The coaching scouts are going to be horrendous, mate, just for November. But it should bounce back in December, hopefully. Yeah, it should be good. GTA. It's been 13 years since the release of the last mainline Grand Theft Auto Game Guild,
Starting point is 00:37:20 Grand Theft Auto 5 dropping back in 2013. Stephen Adam, spinning or tripping saying GTA is about to have the sports world. There's a lot of games out there. In a chuckle of a gamer, you are a hunk. He is tripping. that the production is going to go down. He's spitting facts that the players
Starting point is 00:37:35 is going to be playing a shit out of the game. Right? What's going to go down is club appearances. I mean, divorce rate might go up a little bit because they don't have they don't want to see y'all no more ladies. GTA just dropped shit.
Starting point is 00:37:54 2K just banned all the zinners. Right? The visitors is gone, so, hey, everybody's having fun again. Right? So players is going to be on a game. They're just not going to be out in the public no more. Right?
Starting point is 00:38:08 Like, I was a gamer. I played Halo. I played into, like, instead of going to the club or dinner, I'm on the game. It means I'm rested. Means I'm off my legs. Mean I'm busting your ass. Yeah, but you're not moving atrophying, sitting on the couch, extended hours. I'm going home.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Think about what I'm saying. Is Norma Tech. I'm going home. Norma Tekin. Sitting my ass in the couch. I'm ignoring my kids, my side chicks, my club. No dinners. It's video games and hooping.
Starting point is 00:38:38 It is up. It's up. Like, I don't know what he's talking about. Hey, what? It's up. That's all I got to do is up. It's like the bubble. It's the bubble.
Starting point is 00:38:49 Oh, man. GTA is bringing the bubble back. Come on. It's crazy. What? Crazy. Nobody's going out. Nobody's going out.
Starting point is 00:38:58 How much did Tim Duncan play video games? He did game a little bit, but not. I don't think he was a heavy game. You don't even know Tim? On the plane they were doing. Star Clause Duty? Yeah, he was a big, yeah, he was a big Call of Duty guy. Shooting games.
Starting point is 00:39:13 He might have been watched from video games at that point. No, he traveled. He travels with his game. Yeah. Travels with his game. No, he gets. They would book the ballroom. They would book the ballroom.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Mm-hmm. They would book the ballroom and bring the TVs in, and then they have a, whole tournament going. Well, you know they have the suitcase that folds in the TV. Yeah, play on the plane. Yeah, Timmy wasn't fucking wrong. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:39:36 I'm just saying, I'm, oh, shit. Like, I bought on a lot of accident. I'm just, I'm just. Like, GTA, like, GTA, you ain't got to worry about, listen, you ain't got a word about, listen, you ain't got to worry about them being in the club no more.
Starting point is 00:39:48 You ain't sure. Young boys is going to be on them games all day. Drinking apple juice and waters. I had to think about it. Now, Timie was a, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe order some chicken tenders. You might, you might,
Starting point is 00:39:58 you might, You might get some verbiage on the, on the, on the PlayStation. Oh, yeah, you may get some slip-ups. You might get some slip-ups. Yeah, you're going to get some slip-ups. You know what? Somebody get a little bit of that. They're going to get comfortable.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Yeah, they're going to get comfortable. They're going to get it. It's too sweet. It's too sweet. I get to go, who? Come home. Oh, you have a bad game. You're on a live.
Starting point is 00:40:18 Somebody say something. It's over. Like, even on two. It's over. Hey, I'll be on 2K. Brough. Because, you know, the logos. If you're a football player,
Starting point is 00:40:27 NBA player NBA. When I wake up at 4.34 o'clock in the morning, the balls is out there. Them basketballs is out there. They don't play, came from the club or not, they're on the game. Like, you don't understand, like, players, their outlet, their outlet.
Starting point is 00:40:47 If you don't golf, your therapy is the game. It's so much, yeah, it's therapy. They're going to be on that game. Like, most of my friendships came from the game with some of these NBA players. Real shit. Real shit. Call of Duty groups. You know, Madden.
Starting point is 00:41:01 But people talk to you crazy, man. You may fuck around get a little 12-year-old kid and he's just talking to you crazy on the game. And you're like, man, where's your parents? He's like. Biddy, what's the craziest thing a 12-year-old kid has said to you while you were on the game that you feel comfortable sharing here on Gills Arena?
Starting point is 00:41:17 The craziest, the craze. I mean, just. In words? Oh, that's a... That's what? That's what you know the life is hot. That's the pop and a lot. Like, it's basically like, uh, elderly abuse.
Starting point is 00:41:31 You know what I mean? Because they, they're talking so fast. You know what I mean? And they're like, you see that boy, you old ass boy. They're just going off. The craziest one was the dude was flipping work. And he was, they was, they was cooking the work. And he was on the other line talking about all the shit that they had going on.
Starting point is 00:41:52 I was whooping his ass. I was whooping his ass. I said, bro, you know, you know. don't sound like a good drug dealer, dog. You need to take up another profession because you arguing with everybody. Like, the deal was literally on the live, like he was getting his dog.
Starting point is 00:42:07 He got mad at me because after I was whipping his ass, I was like, bro, you don't sound like, you're not good at Madden, and you don't sound like a good drug dealer. From what I'm hearing. I had to, in Halo days, a little white kid says he was going to put his little white balls on my forehead.
Starting point is 00:42:27 They're reckless, dog. They're reckless. Like, if it ain't, I'm just to be honest. It's the only place that racism, it gets powerful. Like, if you hear it, like, as soon as you're walking to the lobby and start the game, and you hear racism, you've been like, yo, it's about, let's get it, let's get it. It's about, this is a good lobby. No, for sure.
Starting point is 00:42:52 This is a good lobby. No, it's, we got an, in our men group, it's a dude that, I guess he races. I guess he racist of prejudice, but all the dudes they just brought me into the league. All the dudes were fired off on them.
Starting point is 00:43:06 Shut your racist ass up. And he'd be the commissioner in the league. I'm like, man, he run a good league. I'm like, man, get me out this damn league. He'll drop a couple of F-bbaugh. And he'd be going at you know who black in the league and you know who white.
Starting point is 00:43:23 And there's one white dude. And he'd be going at all. Y'all, y'all sorry. I saw he only talk about the game, but they be on his ass. They be on him. That's the only thing you got to worry about, though. Gaming actually is a good about this. He ain't too far off.
Starting point is 00:43:38 He's too far. Yeah, he just needs to go go down. It's a different era, Stephen Adams. You know what I mean? Like, they don't hang. They ain't really drinking no wine. They ain't going out. There ain't no club.
Starting point is 00:43:49 Clubs don't even pop no more. He didn't even go on line and get the club popping. You just go on line. The club popping. Long stream club popping. You don't have to go, you have to go out to find people. You know what I mean? Or see.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Yeah, the vibe and kick. Yeah, you don't have to. The vibe can come to you now. Lanzo ball, Melo ball, be at the wreck, going. I mean, that's what I said. It's going to be a time where, that's what I said, this is a great year for the game with all these new changes in the roster. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:25 And all the young dudes, a lot of the, lot of young dudes. They used to doing it. From college, they used to just playing video games and getting paid and their hoop. So now it's like the game should actually be better. And that's what I said. And
Starting point is 00:44:40 going back to Dallas, Danny. All right. Here's an idea. Since what he said, what if Dustin May, right? Dusty May. What if Dusty May get them right? And they rock and they're
Starting point is 00:44:56 rocking and rolling since they are young, do they have a chance while everybody is GTA? No. I'm not rolling. They're going to be on GTA. They can get off to a hot start now. This is what Stephen Adams said.
Starting point is 00:45:11 4 and 12. Did you hear that schedule they had? That's a lot of ass whippers. They did that. They're going to win. They can be Houston. November to December? They can be Houston.
Starting point is 00:45:21 They're not being Houston. Who? Dallas can be Houston. They are not being Houston. What was those times? Houston, right? Spurs. Anything.
Starting point is 00:45:29 I was going to say, the Houston comments is not there anymore. Joe, they were coming back? Okay, when they come back, they can probably beat the Houston comments. All right, let's move on to mostly fans. If we can, please. Shout out to our amazing, the talented production crew. Spare no expense. Yo, Danny has shit to do today.
Starting point is 00:45:47 The comments. I'm ready to tell you, because I know when we tell you have things to do, you want to come on. I also have practiced. I do. I also have practiced today. Yeah, I do. stretch last time. Somebody just said
Starting point is 00:45:57 you can bring your black ass to the arc raters out. Yeah, see, that's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking
Starting point is 00:46:02 about it's starting already. Races is about his highest form online. Let me put my reading glasses on. Online game
Starting point is 00:46:13 and his races. So we got a comment from Aunt J7 put $20 in the offering place. Said, What's good, Gils
Starting point is 00:46:20 Arena, Aunt J. From Playback is here. He said, Yo, D.G. has anyone checked in on Greg Paulus,
Starting point is 00:46:25 LOL. How good will UNC be this year with Baby Luca? Man, I like his game. Mike Malone's going to be they're going to be solid, man. I like some of the pieces they got.
Starting point is 00:46:36 They're talking about the kid from Virginia Tech, as they call him, Baby, Louie. He's like six nine point guard because he was four. He got game. They had a couple pieces, a couple of young, good pieces.
Starting point is 00:46:45 Who? Carolina. Talking about UNC. His college, girl. We're one and out. Oh, hell, no. Y'all going to be with this hell. Unk.
Starting point is 00:46:56 With the kids from Virginia Tech. Hey, DJ, y'all done. Who y'all bringing? $5. Yeah, I don't know how to pronounce it. Hey, y'all done. I already talked about. North Carolina is done.
Starting point is 00:47:05 We ain't going to be the best. We got some pieces. Now, y'all done. And ain't North Carolina then. It's a realtor. You know what I'm saying? It's a rebuild. Y'all been rebuilding.
Starting point is 00:47:15 We just got, no, we went to the final four a couple years ago, bro. Did you? Yeah. The Hubert is up in that. It was up and back and forth. So he had a bad year, a good year, bad year, good year, good year. Um, Huber's gone now, got,
Starting point is 00:47:28 you got the transfer from Illinois. Mike Malone coming into coach. Mike Malone? Yeah, Mike Malone over there. Oh, shit. He didn't even a little behind. So we get in some pieces of the first year. Yeah, I ain't, you don't do nothing. And another, another year or two, I think we're going to be there. They're starting to get the money. It's all about the money. It's all about the money. You got the Jordan. You got the NIL. Y'I.L. Y'all should have been. I'm like, y'all should have been. It was. Where you assume it's happening and it's not happening now. Kentucky has been down. Y'all been down.
Starting point is 00:47:54 So like the powerhouse schools since NIL, they ain't really, they ain't really, they're not spent no smoke. Because the fathers is home. They're not dealing with single bunders no more, right? Where they get to go in there and throw a cup of honey, honey. They can't, they got to talk to father now. Yeah, they got a pony up. Yeah. He ain't pulling that.
Starting point is 00:48:13 Is that what happened? It's not happening. Like, you think, oh, Jordan Brown, like, we get a bunch of money from Jordan, but, like, it's not happening. They just got here. They feel like they don't have to spend the money because of the power. But now it's like. You have to care anymore. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:25 I don't care if you're a big, you got to spend the money. So we're starting to get the money, starting to spend the money. And I think another year or two, we're going to be good. Because that's the powerhouse. But this year we're going to be solid. We're going to be solid. So we've got a comment from Gianni Phipps 180 says, What's up?
Starting point is 00:48:40 I'm from Atlanta and don't see the Hawks as a good franchise. You guys think the Hawks will make it to the playoffs. Did they do enough in the off season and their potential starting five? So did the Hawks do enough to make it to playoff? Who did they pick up? I mean, Dale and Johnson? You got Nikiel Alexander Walker. Yeah, those things come back and better, but he lost Kaminga, who has helped him in the playoffs a little bit.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Who else did they pick up? Lou Dord. They got Lou Dort. They got Lou Dort. Yeah. No. They're going to be solid. I think they're going to be, I think they'll be.
Starting point is 00:49:06 Did they lose Big O? Or he's still back? I think he's still there. Yeah. Yeah, I'm off them. Yeah, I don't. I think they'll be playoffs. They don't have no.
Starting point is 00:49:15 They don't have no. Dyson Daniels. They don't have heart. They don't, but they'll be a playoff team, though. They'll lose in the first round like they last year. I think the way they lost in the playoffs. Kingston Fleming's coming in. Yeah, young kid.
Starting point is 00:49:26 Young guard. I think the way they lost in the playoffs, they'll be hungry. They'll be right back. But I don't think they'll be in the playoffs again. They don't, or they just don't have, there's no it factor in Atlanta. Jay, I'll be that guy. Yeah, but he don't score. He don't, he don't really, like he can get to his shit, but the way he's, but the way he
Starting point is 00:49:50 He, like, I don't know, dude. He was averaging like 27, 8, and 9 last year. What it? At one point in the season. Then he dropped down to 22, 7. But I'm just saying, like, his, he's a playmaker. And I like him. I like him as the X factor as like a...
Starting point is 00:50:06 Josiah, what he averaged at the season? Jalen Johnson? It was like 24, 25, 9 and 7, something like that. You don't really have a point guard. You don't have a rim run big. Kingston is going to be the point guard. CJ's over there still. Nick Kellogg's in the water.
Starting point is 00:50:20 Kingston. I do like Kingston. They're going to be a player. 23, 10, and 8. 20, 10, and 8. Jalen Johnson, 23, 10, and 8 last year. That's not a score. Like, but he's not a score.
Starting point is 00:50:30 He did you 30. Triple double. He will get, he can get that, but he's not a, he's not a, he's not a score. You know what I mean? Like, he ain't going, I'm going to score you to death. Like, he's going to play, make, and do all the shit. Like, I watched him play. I like the team, but I just feel.
Starting point is 00:50:49 But, like, they got a lot of good players. They don't have, like, a really, really, really, really, really good player that's unstoppable. It's Atlanta. Like, if they have somebody. Yeah, I'm not saying. Even like a Cam Thomas, like somebody that just. A score. Like, somebody just cannot.
Starting point is 00:51:07 CJ could score, the Cal could score. They can score, but they. Again, we're talking about them. They're good scores, but they're not. Again, we're not talking about them in the light of being contenders. You think that you said playoffs. They can make the playoffs. They can be a top 18.
Starting point is 00:51:19 You think they better than dollars? They made the plus here. They're the East. Oh, yeah, that's true. It is the East. The Hard Rock Bet Casino app is here, Ontario. Starting point is 00:52:10 psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now. So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological chaos happening all this same time. Starting point is 00:52:46 with therapist, cure gains on Black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage.
