The grizzly suspended John Moran for conduct detrimental to the team. Can Memphis salvage the relationship with their franchise player? I'm going to start this show in Memphis where a situation may or may not be brewing between John Morant and the Grizzlies, depending on who you ask. Here is the timeline of events. Came to a head on Halloween during the Grizzlies lost at home to the Lakers to open NBA Cup group play. Luke can return from injury to drop 44, 12 boards and six times for those who missed it. That was not the real story here. So let's take a look at what went down.

Starting point is 00:04:59 Jai had his worst game of the season finishing with eight points on three of 14 shooting while going scoreless in the fourth quarter. He did have seven assists in just one turnover, though. But this video surfaced of Jock standing outside the huddle twirling his towel during a timeout in the fourth quarter during his post-game media availability, Jai was asked about the game and had this response.

Starting point is 00:05:19 What went wrong to you today? A glass of course to stop. Do you feel like, I mean, it was anything you could do different, like this? Regarach him. They had a whole spill in him, so. From the outside, and the outside may be wrong, but from the outside, it didn't look like you had your usual energy tonight. Oh, I have to go inside while.

Starting point is 00:05:41 Okay. You feel like you should play more? Oh, I should I play more or not. What could have been done different to get a different outcome? other than actually the coaching staff? According to them, probably don't play me, honestly. That's what basically the message was after. It's cool.

Starting point is 00:06:02 The coaching staff message was there? It's cool, man. It was not cool. So after the game, the Grizzies announced they were suspending jaw for one game for conduct, detriment of the team, stemming from a heated exchange between Morant and first year head coach, Tomas Isalo, who took over on an interim basis this past March

Starting point is 00:06:19 after the team fired Taylor Jenkins with nine games left in the season. So according to Shams DeSallo challenged Morant's leadership and effort in a postgame exchange in front of the team, to which Morant responded in tone deemed inappropriate and dismissive. So after the suspension announcement, John went to IG, posted a photo of a fan holding a sign saying, let's go gris Sunday before the Grizzies loss to the Raptors. He returned Monday in the Grizzles' home loss to the Pistons, finishing with 18 points 10 assists and five rebounds on 5 of 16 shooting, and had this to say about the suspension.

Starting point is 00:06:52 and his relationship with the coaching staff and team. You and the coaching staff I would talk about what happened Friday in the walk. Y'all ask that question to them, huh? What about for you? Y'all asked that question, y'all no answer to that. Do you feel like everything's been resolved? Yeah. They told you that, right?

Starting point is 00:07:13 Well, yeah, but we didn't hear from you. Obviously, they can't go and tell y'all something, mind you say? You feel like you get this same? Joy right now, do we used to see anything? No. Why not? Hmm. What can be done to get it back?

Starting point is 00:07:31 We'll see. Do you think you have a good relationship with the franchise? Yeah. Yeah. They told y'all that work. I didn't say anything about that. If I had a good relationship, I wouldn't talk to him at all. So, you know, we've had our convos over these. Do you have any regrets about the way you played on Friday night in the second hand?

Starting point is 00:07:51 second half. You said what? Do you have any regrets by the way you played in the game? That's your whole wrong question? We're too. It's not a big question. God bless job, Morant. So Morant was supportive of Taylor Jenkins, his only head coach during most of his first six seasons in the league,

Starting point is 00:08:07 but was not rolling with the Grizzlies new offense last season, which was implemented by Assistant Noah La Roach, who was fired with Jenkins and former assistant and now head coach Isalo. Tension had been brewing this season with the team off to a shaky start while dealing with some injuries. to their key rotational players.

Starting point is 00:08:22 Morant's numbers are down from his all-star-level seasons. So far this year, he's average 20 points per game is lowest in 2021, shooting 39% from the field, 14% from 3 while playing 29 minutes per game, which are all career lows. So Jock tried to east the tension. Tuesday, by posting on Instagram for the first time since August

Starting point is 00:08:41 with a carousel of Grizzly's images with Rod Wave song, Take the Blame as the soundtrack, and it blew hard as the caption. He also commented on the post twice with a grisly's emoji and hand-raised emoji which I seem to think might signify

Starting point is 00:08:56 he's ready to take the blame but question for the couch which your reaction to the grizzly suspended John Morant and him saying he doesn't have the same joy on the court right now I'm sorry man I was going I mean you spoke for like 12 minutes

Starting point is 00:09:16 I was like you had to give all the contacts we ain't been on since Thursday that's not my problem Okay, but now you know. You just update to where we are now. I don't care about fucking what happened. But to know where we are, we not have to know where we came from.

Starting point is 00:09:29 My apologies. Okay, I guess I started with him not being in the huddle. I mean, at any points in that game didn't score in the fourth quarter. No, no, no. But everyone pointed out that he wasn't in the huddle. He wasn't even in the game. He appeared disengaged. But he wasn't in the game to even been in the huddle.

Starting point is 00:09:46 So you guys were all playing the league. Is that a big a deal with people are making it? He wasn't in the game to be in the huddle. to even care what they're talking about. I mean, if you look at the video, you can see KCP scratching his whole ass talking to this woman right here. You want to see it again?

Starting point is 00:09:59 We can watch it again, put it on. Can we put the video on the time out? He just scratching his ass talking to the lady. Go ahead. We see Jai on the right side. There you go, look at him, look at it. C.P. right there. What's that, sweetheart, how are you doing?

Starting point is 00:10:13 I ain't shit going on. Just out here just being old and shit, just, yeah, you know what I mean? You know what I mean? You know, how he had put it around you. Like a little booty hurt, you know, he's sitting on this bin very long, so no one cares. I want to say a scratch more of a massage. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Starting point is 00:10:27 He was in there. Because he was probably, let me a sudden, he probably was on the bench too. But, you know, at this point in time, they wasn't in the game. And for the most part, if you're not in the game to see what play he's drawing up, most players, they're not. So I don't look at that and say he's disengaged. If you want to pick at it, then you can. But just like I look, I've seen other players who wasn't a part of. the plate, they wasn't engaged either.

Starting point is 00:10:54 Him getting suspended because they had a locker room dispute between each other and no one else knew. Yeah. That kind of rubs, that can rub you the wrong way as a player because I didn't like what you did. You don't like what I did. We're both going at it and then you overexceed this conversation, no matter what the tone is by using your authority by suspending me yeah i mean i i never like i never like when authority figures

Starting point is 00:11:29 do that like if you if we're sitting here having a conversation we lost i'm mad so obviously my temper is a little higher than yours would be as a coach so i'm going to say things that i shouldn't be saying but to suspend me for you're going you're going to mentally lose me But to challenge your effort and leadership in front of the entire team after the game. What's wrong with that? Yeah, that's wrong with that. But the new coaches always do that. Like, they always try to show, yeah, come in, and they feel like if I pick out the star,

Starting point is 00:12:01 the owners and everybody would respect me and shit. But obviously, it's going the wrong way for me. So coaches got to understand that, man. You can lose players easy like that. When people were out in front of the whole team, blame. him for everything. He already, and why suspend him? He already, this job around. I mean, if you're going to suspend him, you should say what we'll say it then. Yeah, say what, that's the thing. I want to know what was said then if you're going to suspend them.

Starting point is 00:12:29 Probably a bunch of bees. Just, you know, you know how we get. Bees, but no B-A-Ns, just bees. No, no, no, no, no. When you get pointed out in front of your teammates and you don't want to hear it, yeah. You've been in that situation. I've been in that situation. You know, they hired T-A-N-C-C-E. Test Scott? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:12:46 Oh, my God. There ain't no telling what Josh said, because if he rocked with Taylor Jenkins the way you did. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just, Lord knows what came about that young man's mouth in that moment. But Jai got to understand, man.

Starting point is 00:13:04 He is held to a different standard because you are the star of that team. You are the one that people look up to and should be the one that people look up to in their locker Your behavior as of late hasn't said that you are that. Just another situation, man, that's unfortunate for him. I think it's run his course in Memphis with him. I think they need to find a new home for him. He's a hell of a talent still. To your point, he said he lost his joy.

Starting point is 00:13:35 He don't have the same joy anymore. That speaks volumes. Then you suspend him. him for one game it's like the fucking slap on the wrist shit like that's like what is it for like you ain't doing nothing

Starting point is 00:13:52 but pissing him off even more like that that's not helping the situation people don't understand like he already don't rock with you and you're not helping the situation I don't care what the conversation y'all had privately

Starting point is 00:14:04 you suspended that man you took my so it's not helping he's not help he's not helping the situation by caring the way he carried in the press conference the team not helping the situation by suspending him so both are at fault right so giant like you held to a different standard in the press conference you got to be better because you are the star the team people look at you as a superstar so you have to handle that better if you don't have any listen no comment

Starting point is 00:14:28 right now man it's not the now it's not the time right about to say that what's wrong with that see you yeah that was just about to say like can you say like um yeah absolutely yeah like no more comments like I'm not going to answer no more like can you say that no but still but that's too it depends on who you are yeah but Would he get fine for that, though? Starting point is 00:14:49 Like, if they have a report with him, if there's a local and all that, they should have that kind of, they should have their respect for the player and because he's a superstar, right? They should have that respect for him if he speaks on something. You know what? I give you that today, but you mind if we come back tomorrow, we'll talk about it. It should go, but then you keep picking at it, picking that, picking that. Now you get the smart ass answer.

Starting point is 00:15:12 Yeah, they gave him for sure. So now he feel like you're trying to bait him. Now you get the asshole meat even more, right? So it's all, it's multi-layered and it's, so it's, he needs to get out of Memphis, man. Yeah. Because the media, they're not going to only going to keep picking at him. They want another. And it's.

It's always one. You always got that one guy that, the local that's he, he want to be different. He wants to be different.

Starting point is 00:16:06 So, yeah, now, it's nasty work by the team. What is he learning from a one-game suspension? And also with everything they're trying to portray him with, all the trouble and stuff that he's been, you know, had in the past. It's just always something. I know that's getting tuned, too. If you care about the product, right? Yeah, but if you care about the product and I'm here with y'all

Starting point is 00:17:09 He ain't got nothing good to say a real veteran would diffuse that he's not right now unless let him let him take a shower first let him think about it or in the morning or on the bus or wherever going that's what that veteran will do unless they don't like the coach the vet don't like the coach or the team don't like the coach still though the vet's going to protect their vet going to take care of the play yeah yeah yeah that's this is our locker room this is sacred so I'm not going to let you come in here and do this so if I see it we to your point absolutely for sure in the 7th season Now, say, is he a vet?

Starting point is 00:17:43 Is he the vet now? Is he the vet? He got a police himself. He's the vet. He wasn't taught by no superstar. Yeah, so he didn't have anybody when he came in. But his back against the wall. He always feels like his back against the wall.

Starting point is 00:17:57 He's never had no superstar vet. They can pick for a reason. Like, people think because, like, people think because you are the main guy and you are the face and you're supposed to be mature. What? He's no different than any 20, 23, 24-year-old. He's just on the spotlight with money, right? Most of these kids should be college seniors at frat parties.

Starting point is 00:18:25 Drinking, having parties in phone. Let me put a carrot in your ass. That's that group. What carrots in your ass? You know, like, fresh shit. Fresh shit. Caucasian fresh shit. You know, they didn't have you.

Starting point is 00:19:47 So I'm 27, pretending I'm 19-20 still. So John 26 right now, turn 26 in August. And I guarantee if you say, hey, who you hang out with. It's going to be a 21-year-old. It ain't going to be no 35-year-old because he never had that. What I'm saying, he's never had that group. He's never been with that group. So when he was 19, and that's a 16-year-old, he never hung out with that group.

Starting point is 00:20:08 Just like, can you look up, uh, uh, uh, job and rents? rookie team, because I want to know what he had on the team. I think the first real vet he had was Derek Rose. Had Marcus Mark for a little bit as well. You know, the only person he could connect with would have been there was last year. That was one year. That was already. It's too fucking late then.

I know how you move. So as a young player, I'm watching more than I'm listening. I'm learning this part of it, but then at night, I'm going out with my age.

Starting point is 00:22:29 So, but I'm learning because I'm watching. I'm watching, right, do's, don'ts, how to dress, how to come in, how to these things. Of course, I'm going to do all those things, but I'm still at the time, I was still only 22. So I couldn't, me at the late 30s. So there's nothing we had in common, but I learned a lot. Then you're hanging out with Jay Kid, right? I'm around Jay Kid. He was married at the time, wife, kids, that, and the third, I'm seeing that.

Starting point is 01:33:19 that Ford, Zion Williamson has been diagnosed He goes with a grade one left hamstring strain that will keep them sideline for at least seven to ten days. The Pelican season has gone off to a terrible start with a squad going winless in their first six games before finally getting a dub over the Hornets without Zion on Tuesday night. So Williamson appeared in five of the Pell's first six games, currently leading the team in scoring, rebounding in assists, averaging 23.7 rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes per game. He's missed time in each of the last four seasons dealing with hamstring issues. So a slim down Williamson entered this season with great optimism looking to bounce back after playing in just 30 games last season before the Pell's shut him down due to a bone bruise in his back.

Starting point is 01:34:00 And now his hamstring issues have reemerged to start this season. So how concerned should the Pelicans be with his latest setback for Zion?
