So, gonna start this show on a sad note, but, you know, we're going to honor the legend. Basketball world lost a legend today. Hall of Famer Jerry West, a.k.a. Mr. Clutch, a.k.a. the logo, passed away at 86 years old. So, second overall pick by the Lakers in 1960. West spent his entire 14-year career with the Purple and Gold. He was a 12-time All-NBA selection, 5-time All-Defensive selection, 14-time All-Star, made the All-Star

game in every single year he was in the league. Scoring champ, assist champ, and he was a member of the 35th, 50th, and 75th anniversary squads. West played in nine NBA Finals, still holds the playoff record for highest point per game average in a series with 46.3. That is buckets, ladies and gentlemen. He's also the only player in NBA history to win finals MVP on a losing team.

So West saw his best success in the front office winning eight chips and executive of the year twice. He was the architect of the Showtime Lakers era in addition to the Shaq and Kobe Lakers and also the Warriors dynasty, Steph, Clay, Dre, and that whole crew. One of the most influential hoopers of all time on and off the court. West was a walking bucket and notoriously did not take shit from anybody.

For everybody who watched Winning Time, fabrication. Good dude, but he was about his business. Like I said, he would let you know if he wasn't rolling with you. But when you guys think about just Jerry West, what he meant to the game, what are your reactions to Jerry West passing away? I never met him, I don't know. Oh, yeah, no. You don't have to meet him.

No, he's just a legend of the game, man. You wore his logo in every NBA game. He's done a lot for the game, man. As a player and as a front office. Most recently for the Clippers, being over there with him. Had a chance to get to know him a little well. To be around him when KJ got traded over there last summer. And a great, great guy for the game of basketball, man. Yeah, just looking at the highlights, like, yo, the pump fake was real, right? Mr. Cluster, like you mentioned, he was with the Clippers as well. Got Kawhi and PG over there. Every stop he made, those teams experienced some of their greatest success.

I was with the Grizzlies. Memphis, yeah. Yeah, Memphis, what he was able to do over there. Put that together, yeah. They got to the Western Conference Finals, and obviously what he did was the worst. Yeah, he had to put that Mills team together. Yeah, he was in the front office over there for that.

So with Zach and Mark and Rudy and all them guys, he was in Conley, he was over there for that. Was he there when I was there? He was, I think, 2002 to 2007, so I think, oh, no, he was not there. But also, one of the greatest draft day trades of all time, Lottie Divock to the Hornets for Kobe Bryant. We saw him and went, there, the rest was history.

So guys like him and Jerry had less expectations until they started going out to prove it. And then, you see, you know what I'm saying, they started proving it. You get your ass busted. Yeah, he had 40 on you. So I think I had a meeting with Jerry when he was in Memphis,

trying out with Memphis a couple times, him and Chris Wallace. So he's definitely going to be remembered. And definitely appreciate it. So he's definitely going to be remembered and definitely appreciated. You know, you can't take away what he brought to the game. And, you know, rest in paradise. Yeah. Celebration of life. Somber moment, but 86 years old.

Later in life, he admitted he was still tormented by those losses and would never step foot again in Boston. So after his passing, one Twitter user paid homage by pointing out just how much Jerry West disliked the Celtics, tweeting the following,

saying, man would rather die than see the Celtics win another championship. Respect. So shout out to the legend Jerry West. I think it is is i think there was this thing in 2011 that was considered the word contraction they wanted to contract the league and then that statement is to make it smaller and put most of the big time players on one roster like they were doing with the super teams super team rollout allowed big players to all be on one team. And then they got rid of the mid-level exception, which then pushed out the middle guy,

which you can have top players on one team and then low budget role players that you don't have to pay on the back end. So to contract the league, you would have to cut out all of the small market teams, which means it was big market teams only. They put this out in the public in like 2012, right when the lockout ended, where they were basically pushing out the new salary cap expectations, which before they did the CBA, it was at like 51%. I think we ended up settling for... No, we settled for 51. We settled for 51. So I think it was 49. And then we settled for 51, but their expectation was 54. So when they put out 54, they pushed out this contraction where, and they put out this theory of them X-ing out small market teams, Indiana, New Orleans, Cleveland, OKC, Memphis, Washington,

and Charlotte. Washington, D.C.? They're the six largest. Yeah, no, not Washington, Portland. Portland. Portland and Charlotte, all of them becoming a part of the G League, right? So the G League was an emerging force. They wanted all of those small market teams to mitigate those players who wouldn't have big contracts, put them under

the G League and put all the star players on big market teams. And then it would be like the NBA All-Star during the season. You got all big teams playing with all big players and the league they thought would go up because they wanted to globalize too. So now what we're talking about is the watered down part of how many other teams are coming in and then you have to go into the G League pool now to fill roster spots because now you're adding what, two more teams? Mm-hmm. So if you already got teams being blown out like you're saying with those stats,

what's going to happen when you add two more teams and then you got to break up some of the stars that's on those teams that's been jumping ship to go to big teams so that they can team up to win championships? Now you got an opportunity to have your own team, but you don't want that because we already know that role and what that leads to. You're just going to be on the team. You're just going to be losing. You're going to be stacking your points up. So now you just got to move in all the G League players
