Man, proceed. Thank you, Gil. So the NBA held their draft lottery Sunday. Ping pong balls bounced in the Hawks' favor

as they landed the number one pick for the first time in franchise history. Hawks had just a 3% chance of winning the lottery, fifth lowest odds for a team to secure the top pick since the lottery began in 1985. Wizards got the second pick. Rockets got the third pick. Spurs got the fourth and eighth picks.

And the Pistons, who were the worst team in the league this season, dropped to fifth. Unlike last year's Wimby Sweet Stakes, there is no clear-cut top pick. General consensus is this is one of the weaker drafts in recent memory. But question for you, Gil. How would you feel about the Hawks getting the number one pick if you were Trae Young? I'd be excited. I mean, you know, you get the number one pick.

You know, for what's coming in the draft for him, right, it's a seven-foot French kid who can do exactly, not quite everything Wimby can do, but, you know, you have a seven-foot guy kid who can do exactly, not quite everything Wimby can do, but you have a seven-foot guy who's a center, who can put the ball on the floor, who can shoot, who can dive. So it's no different between him going to Spurs

or staying where he's at. So for him, if he's gonna go to the Spurs, he might as well just stay home. So you think Alex Sarg could be at the level of a Wimby? We don't know. But he has all the tangibles, right? You know, he's a big guard, center-type style. That's his comparable where you come into the league.

We don't know the defensive part of it because that's not what they're doing. Offensively, he brings the ball up the court. He can dribble. Not as quite the moves that Wimby has, but he's doing what he does. So we've seen what Wimby did this season, Rookie of the Year, generational rookie season. You're saying if you, Trey, don't think about going to the Spurs and playing with that and kind of put your faith in this Hawk squad? Why do I say that?

Because you still got Ken Capella. He can play the five still. So you can come back to four. So you can help him. He ain't got to bang and do all those things that Wimby had to do as a rookie. There's been a lot of uncertainty about trey's future in atlanta with the hawks like we talked about and discussed

some potential other suitors i think the lakers were mentioned a while ago uh doesn't look like that's gonna come into fruition as trey switched agencies yeah that doesn't yeah spurs also have been mentioned you can't play with like trey can't play next to LeBron James. It's just not going to work. Yeah. No, it's no different than when, you know, when Jordan, Kobe, people didn't realize they never had a traditional point guard. They didn't have guys who created the offense and did all that assist and all.

They didn't have those type of guys. They had guys who either just defensive guys or guys who were spot-up shooters, right? So, you know, certain players can't play with those type of players because what makes a Steve Nash or Chris Paul great is that they're creating all the plays for everyone else. A great player don't need you to create the play for him. He can create it for himself.

So that's where usually a clash happens. So it brings me to my next question, though. Is it the right time for the Hawks to hit the reset button in free trade, or do you think ride it out and see how this season goes? When are they? But they haven't made the playoff three times since he's been there or something like that? No, they haven't gotten out of the first round since, I think, 2021.

Like, he shows up and does his job, night in and night out. He makes people around him better. So it's not like he's out there, he's averaging 35 and three assists. No, he's consistent double, damn near double-double every night.

So, yeah. Even with Hawks, I mean, he's 25 years old. So you're talking about blow it up. Blow it up with what? To bring back a bunch of 22, 23, 24, 25 year olds. So that's the thing, this is not the 90s and the 80s where the guys are coming in at 22, 23 years old. Four years later, five years later, five years later they're 28, 29.

These guys are coming in at 18, 19 years old, playing five, six years and still only 24, 25, 26, right? So that's what we're not realizing. So when people will say, oh, we need to just blow it up and go younger, the motherfuckers is young. They are young. Like Tatum. Tatum's been to the Eastern Conference Finals four times, the finals two times, and he's only 25.

Right? So, you know, all this blowing up and getting rid of it. They're young. They're still young. So you still got a lot of time with these guys. Yeah. You're talking about 10 years, huh, right? Yeah, 25 is young.

shoot. He's going to do all this stuff. No contact with anybody. He can sneak into top 17, top 25 pick. That's all you want. You want the foot in the door and say, all right, we got him in versus somebody like a Miles Simons who should have came out when he's hot.

Then he goes back and we're like, all right, he's too... The longer longer you stay in you get to start picking Change for him because of who he is or because of who his dad is because of who is that is you give him one more? Year where we get to sit there are he's fully healthy and you get to watch and look and everything He does is gonna be magnified.
