All right, we got a lot to get into. Here's what's cracking in Gil's Arena today. Austin Reeves continued his hot start in the game-winning buzzer beater to lift the Lakers over the wolves is Lim and Daddy the Lakers leader until further notice. The Sixers are off

to a four and no start thanks in large part to their dynamic duo in the back court but what's the ceiling when Joelle and B's minute's restriction gets lifted

So there were 10 games around the league Wednesday, but we're going to start with the best one of the night. Lakers and Wools met for the second time in less than a week, Wednesday in Minnesota, following the Purple and Goals win at home last Friday. This time the Lakers were without both LeBron and Luca and the Wools were down, Ant Man and it recovered from a hamstring injury. So Lakers were up four at the half and 11 after three. We pick up the action in the fourth quarter. Let's take a look at what we got.

So despite an off shooting night, Austin Reeves finished with 28 points in a career high tying 16 assists going 9 for 14 from the field. Jake Laravia had his best game as a Laker, dropping a season high, 27 points on 10th of 11 shooting, including 5 and 6 from deep. La Ravie had 25 total points of the first four games this season, and DeAndre Aden added 17 and 10 boards. He was 8 for 11 from the field. It's Aiden's second double-double this season. So Julius Randall picked up the slack for the wolves, dropping 22 of his game high, 32 points in the first half, along with six assists. And Jada McDaniels had a 30 piece as well, along with seven rebounds.

So Lakers were up by as much as 16 midway through the fourth. quarter when the wolves came storming back with a 21-5 run capped off by Julius Randall's layup to take a one-point lead with 10 seconds remaining. But with the game on the line, it was Limmon Daddy time as a Lakers' current number one option put the team on his back. You got a double team hit a 10-foot floater in Dante DiVincenzo's grill at the buzzer or game. Oh, you see it.

You see the red light. Lakers improved at 3 and 2 on the season, 2 and 1 without Luca in the lineup. Should be noted they were also without Gabe Vincent and Marcus Smart for this. one and LeBron as well has not played a game this season expect to be back at some point in mid-November so after the game J.J. Reddick had high praise for Austin Reeves but last year I think he established himself as a as a bad dude you know a bad again I can't use certain words but this is this is kind of who he is he had that stretch you know for three and a half months of the regular season last year

or whatever it is, where he's 22, 7, and 6, or whatever the numbers were. But he's done it. For me, I think the big thing is he's established himself as like the leader. You know, he's one of the leaders or the leader on the court. And that's big time. That's what we want.

That's what we need from him. So Reeves is the first Lakers since Jerry West to average 40 points in 10 assists in a three game span. Limitaddy also got some major love on social. with Luca tweeting a goat emoji, LeBron exclaiming A. M-Fing R and two-time champion a former number one coldest

So Officer Kenyon, how impressive is Austin Reeves start to this season be with Luca and LeBron's sideline? This is what I have a issue with just concern with teams, right? People that's making decisions. when you're looking at a guy like Austin Reeves played last year like did you think he was going to get worse like this is my thing

like did you think he was going to digress you got a 40 year old guy over here was on his way out the door you're going to rely on this kid so why not just get it out the way in pain right just go ahead and like stop like all these games these teams

play it's unnecessary and then you've he's going to free it he's not signing that right now Unless it's the max. So unless they give him the max and he's not signed, he's going into free agency. And there's a good potential that he can walk.

So y'all playing these games with these people, man, when you know you can use them. Same thing with Camilla, this kid, you keep playing these games. As we said on this show, y'all say it all the time, play stupid games. Yeah, stupid prizes, right? Mm-hmm.

And he's proven like, hey, you can, at a 40-year-old guy, he's been great, but we can. So last year, AR, arguably the best third option in the league. Some on this couch felt that way.

Some didn't. The Lakers offered him $49 million. That was the most that they could offer. That was the most they could offer. That was the most they could offer from that. They ain't enough. That was the most they could offer from. Obviously, Reeves rejected that.

That was a courtesy gesture. This current NBA is in this economy and the NBA where other guys are getting paid that's doing less for their team? 89 for him in this city for that team? more they no no but 240 is sick too well it's going to be more well listen i don't know if it's going to be 240 but he deserved more than 89 so that's so i hunted more sure i'm saying so that's what i'm saying so for sure he's not 1805 i'm thinking 185 i'm thinking he's going to get 18 if he keep going i'm thinking one because 240 you got to make all NBA team dollars that's the

matter to do that if he if that if that if he if he's going to get one if he's going to get one of you continues this trajectory and he's averaging and he's made third team, then it's a no-brainer. 185-190-185-120? Yeah. 185-19. So let's move on to the master chef. So you've got a lot of seasonings, a lot of things cooking. It is snowing in Los Angeles

for the Lakers. Okay. Okay. Make sure it's good to go. Yes. But how impressive has Austin Reeves been to start this season? And do you think he's earning that max contract this summer? I think his trajectory is, It's solid for any other team except for the Lakers.

I think the Lakers don't have no strategic plan to keep two of the same players on the same team without really extending their roster. I always say that they're looking for Joker. So in order to get somebody like Joker to accompany Luca, you're not going to pay Austin Reeves Max to keep him there. It wouldn't make any sense if you're the Lakers. So when he got the 55, I think that was a 55 for two or some shit. Who Austin?

Yeah. He signed like the 4 for 504, whatever. So the Spurs at all from, I believe, somewhere like the 4 for 80 range. Back then, took less bread, team friendly deal with the Lakers, stay in LA. So even back then it was like to me, it was comparing him to Malik Munk. It was trying to figure out where he placed, you know, when it comes to those guards that can actually do what he does. And he's obviously shown more progression throughout the years.

And what he's doing right now is what he's supposed to do. Next man up, you know, it's my team now. Everybody's down. Let me do my thing. But at the same time, if you can do what Luca do, why y'all on the same team. And then you got LeBron doing what Luca do. You do what Luca do. Y'all three on the same team, somebody need the ball.

Everybody not going to have the same numbers. So if you look at that, you say, does Austin Reeves belong? on the Lakers, and does he get these numbers if he's not on the Lakers? Regardless of his progression, I really think that we would have to wait and see what he can do on other teams. And I think what he's doing now is showcasing. He's showcasing his ability for other teams to see what he can do. And if other teams see his trajectory being a max player, they may consider that. But I don't see him as being no all-star right now.

I don't see him picking up his production outside of being next to another superstar. that's going to demand the ball. So you look at Maxie, you look at VJ, Vijay don't demand the ball. He's a, I pick it up. Austin is kind of showing himself to be a demand the ball type of guy. So I think that's one of the things.

Well, VJ played with a guy who ain't going to throw it to him and other guy with his mental restrictions. He ain't got no choice. Well, Vijay really can't really speak right now. He's a rookie, so he can't really. And then Maxi, listen, trust me. Yeah, he can't really say.

He started off like that. But that's not who he is. That's not who a lot of guys are. Like I said, Malik Monk not playing in the... He was on the Lakers. Him and Austin Reeves was beside each other. They picked Austin because Austin would be willing to take the money they would offer him. Malik wouldn't.

So then you got to get rid of Malik because he's going to be worth this money if we give him the ball. And we show him, like, go get this money. Now Malik got to get this money. got to go be a journeyman based on his skill set and what he's not willing to take. You know how to beat a shot clock running out kind of guy. You get a ball to him and make him create. So he could fit into any system. But for me, I've seen this before, you know. From Jordan Poole's or Lou Wills, you can't say. New Will. Will. Jordan Boo, average 22.

With Steph Curry by his style. He averaged 20. And won a championship. With Steph Curry. And we have seen him by himself. It's a different style. That's what I'm saying. You've seen him by itself.

All we can hope is that you learn something positive from being around a profession. And if you're in a situation to have your own team, you take a lot of them leaders. quality and the positive qualities of winning to a different team. That's how we can hope for, but we don't know. But what we are he is right now, he's showing all the right qualities. So you're more confident in Austin Reeves?

During the first week of the NBA season, there were a record 1640-point performances, including four 50-point games, which is also an NBA record for the opening week of the season. Wimby got these things rolling with the career, 40 points against the Mavs in the first game of the season, and four of those 40-point games came from the Lakers with Luca dropping back-to-back 40 pieces to start the season. Austin Reeves coming through with 51 and 41 in back-to-back games with Lucas sideline.

There's some really gifted individual scores in this league. I don't think whether it's bad defense, whatever you want to classify it as, it's not being emphasized during the regular season. So whatever you want to classify it as, man, guys are, this is double the next output, man, is crazy.

Yeah, I don't know to classify it as bad defense. or guys are really good, man, and, yeah, it's got off to a rapid scoring pace, so that number is going to break some records this year, I'm assuming, as far as 40, 50-point games in the season. I'm going to go ahead and say there. There's no individual pride. But the pride used to come from a lot of the teaching, though, too.

Like, you know what I'm saying? Like training, you know, like all that, so with none of that, it's like, they just. Like, we're just pride to get better, like, you know you bad, right? We don't have training camp. We're not working on this as a team. We're not doing these things. I only spent one year in college or I came from Europe. AAU basketball are not teaching me these good habits.

By the time I get to the league, I got a lot of bad habits, right? So where does the individual pride to, you know what? Whether there's 1% better defense, however you want to, listen, I'm tired of getting straight line. I want to do it to make two moves instead of straight line. Like, just where's the individual? I ain't saying you got to be fucking Tony Allen. I ain't saying you got to be Gary Payton or Alvin Robertson or. none of these dudes, I'm not saying that.

But where's the individual pride when a guy get, like, listen, man, coach put me on him, right? If he cooked me, that's what I'm saying. Used to be one shooter, one guy that can score, and a half of extra guy. Then eventually it was two guys, then two and a half.

Today, all five can put the ball in the basket. So when you're talking about health, upside and try to get back, that doesn't even exist anymore. You have to have one-on-one defense with a dude who has 300 new moves to the same defensive principles that was created in the 60s and the 70s. If I'm right-handed, you're going to push me left. Okay, you're going to push me. That means you're going to give me left because they're supposed to be a nail guy.

That nail guy don't exist anymore because that's a shooter and that's a dead over. So now that's Luke or LeBron James Wright. So when I come and go, you don't have that stop anymore. Yes, to your, yeah, absolutely. What you're saying, 100% correct, absolutely. So if the help is not there anymore, why am I forcing you to a direction, right? So this is what I'm talking about, the individual pride, the individual, all of these individual things come into play at, you know what I'm saying?

Be in the passing lane, be up, just discourage some things, do your work early. I'm saying, he still might make it. But if I know that I got four of the shooters on the floor, why am I forcing you left? Why am I forcing you right? You know what I'm saying? Try to stand? That's what I'm saying. So why are they, they're not teaching these guys and there's the individual pride to go watch film, be like, go watch film, be like, damn, I'm bad. Right?

I like to talk being a student of the game. And one thing we should know is the defense is not, like you guys said, sexy and it's not

So that would mean that the emphasis would not be on defense and training camp. It wouldn't be the emphasis in practice. I think that the game never changes, only the players.

So if the game doesn't change and the emphasis, when I was growing up, was on defensive field goal percentage. It was on deflections. It was on getting stops, collectively as a group. We need to get a stop, three stops in a row, to be precise. So when you get three stops in a row, the defensive field goal, percentage goes down and your fast break percentage goes up that's where the offense comes in but now if we're saying that the nail guy which is for the

fans the nail guy is the guy at the free throw line if that nail guy is no longer there because this guy can shoot it's not because the defense don't want to give up the three-pointer is because they don't teach it anymore because the percentages never lie regardless of how this guy can shoot that guy can shoot We've always put these defenses in play for a reason. So if you have ball pressure, if you're pressuring the ball, that means these guys don't have the leniency to just sit there with the ball above their head and pass the ball and pick the defense off.

Everybody's up. Everybody's playing hard. If we say cut the court off in three different ways. If you got the ball on the wing, I'm cutting the court off to make you go baseline. There is no middle. we played first defense. It's defense first. Now it's not because back then, what, points per game, where like 100, 104, 104. So that means some game. But it was easy to play defense back there because you only had two people that could score. It ain't about me, it was emphasis.

So it's benefiting those guys even more. So it's not going to change. The defense in the regular season is not going to change unless individual pride kicks in because, like I said, it's fast-paced. The rules have been put in to benefit offense in most sports.

The template is it, hey, we're just going to let these guys shoot threes and everyone shoots threes better than they did before. So why would we just continue to let guys just hoist up threes?

The percentages is the same, but they're taking more. That means the points are going to be higher, obviously. But as a coach, the emphasis has to be on what is working for the other team and how we stop that.
