Interesting, interesting. Oh, I guess Dario is kind of. of Barry Ben. Anyways, she could hear the dead man coming up the steps. The slow, measured sound of footsteps went before him, echoing amongst the purple pillars of her hall. Denary's Targaryen awaited him upon the ebon bench that she had made her throne. I love how this connects towards the end of the chapter, too, right? like she after this we're gonna see but she closes the eyes of the of the guy and you know because he's dead and he should have some sort of peace and respect to his body uh and when she does that it's crazy because then at the very end of the episode you have the girl's bones so i'm sure erie and jiki are all like oh that's very bad luck see what you've wrought see what you've done but yeah very interesting to like parallel that at the beginning she brings and reaps and touches the dead against superstition at the end more bones more death in retrospect now that i think about it unless you know maybe like for sure how someone died you know how some superstitions are like born out of like an actual practical reason it does make sense it does make a little sense if you

don't know how they died don't just go around touching dead bodies because if it is some sort of like infection or illness, you could maybe get it, which is kind of... I also feel like, yeah, the dysentery, the pale mare, yeah, that goes around in this book, but you know. Interesting. There's a lot in this chapter that I feel like is setting up the entire story of her arc in this book, right? Of her fighting and resisting and trying and trying to find the peace and then embracing

the dragon at the end and what that means for her, but then also these bits throughout that are also scattered, like the flux. like the politic breakdown that's going to happen. Very interesting. And then also, something you just said, also maybe don't touch bodies and treat them. Like I wouldn't treat a dead body any differently than the way I would a physical live body.

So like if I would have maybe done this for you in your real life, like if I would have touched your cheek in the real life, in the real world, then maybe I would do that to you while dead. But like also, I don't know. respect Corposes, man Yeah, I think it

Also, like, you know it would be me and, one of your best friends over your body, like, making sure, like, we would stand vigil and also be like, that's not what she looked like. She needs to look more like herself. You guys need to do a better job. She's not going anywhere for anyone to see her like this. The dead people makeup is weird. I was like, they don't do. She doesn't do her makeup like that. Yeah, it was strange. It's like stage makeup for your death. It's very sad. Make sure I look snatched. When I'm dead. Yeah, I would never.

Make sure that like, you know. When I fucking lose my mind someday, you're going to make sure that my hair has died before I die. You know what I mean? I'm not going out there looking like that. Okay, good to know. I'll make sure. I'll make sure. I'm going to be you for a second, by the way.

And I love the very, the language of the open. She could hear the dead man coming up the steps. That could be a chapter in a dream of spring. No, I agree. It's very cold ones, bro. I mean, you read me for filth. That's exactly what I thought.

When I was rereading this, when I was like, eh, that's film. When I saw it, I was like, Eliana's gonna say it's like the others. It's so it's good. Yeah, see, but it would be fine. Like, imagine if we were, like, whites and zombies, it wouldn't be weird if you touched me.

I could do my own makeup. Oh, my God. If you think about it. I think my body would retain that memory. I don't think that you need to worry about makeup at that point. How to shape my eyebrows. You would just be preparing for John Snow's sword. To be snatched.

To slay. To slay queen. Get out of here. Oh, my gosh. So, some of the language actually there of the opening like that even reminds me of like the Mercy chapter and be like, oh, she's a dead girl. She's about to be murdered later and things like that. So, I don't know.

It makes sense had Mercy also been in this book, which it almost was, but then it wasn't. But, yeah, it turns out we find out what we mean is that there's a lot of people carrying this dead man up. And, yeah. There's something I love here as well I mean, where she's thinking about her handmaids And she's like, oh, they're just girls She doesn't dwell too much on this thought a little

But it parallels even Sansa Feeling that she too has lived through so much As she thinks of like the Tyrell's party Yes, I love the line That's exactly, okay So you can read me for filth this time Because the first thing I thought was Sanza pitied them

Sonsa envied them Like, that's the biggest reason I kept it in about the superstitions. I mean... Because that is how Danny feels in some ways, right? Like, she's like, oh, you guys are so young, but are they? They're not. We're told that they're of an age. And it's supposed to tell us, you know, that De Neri's...

Excuse me. That Deneeris feels like she's lived through so much as a queen. And, like, she's had to shoulder so many things, which is, like, true. But with Sonsa, I am. I am kind of like, yeah, the other high-born ladies probably have not experienced what she has experienced. But when it comes to Denaries and her handmaids, like, I'm going to throw this out there. I kind of think that they might have been through worse than her.

Like, one of them was like a sex slave, and they also were torn from their families a little, and then also lived through the starving as we went through the red waste. And, like, sure, they didn't go through a miscarriage and stuff. But I don't think that, you know, their lives have been the best. either. That's all. It hasn't been what they would have chosen. It's not what they would have chosen for themselves. Yeah. I mean, like, they seem content enough with their station being handmaids to a queen, but also I'm just like, I don't know. Like, maybe, maybe it's not, like, all peachy for them. Yeah. They all almost died. There's almost an echo of that throughout this chapter, right? As we start to

see some of the governance going on between the freed men and the nobles and Danny. There may even be some of that running through the veins of it. I don't know. Yeah. I see what you mean. There's a lot of other things. I still need to like, I've gone on this rant with some of the mods from our asswoff and I need to put my thoughts together more.

Maybe we'll get to it in a different chapter. But about like qualms with the way Marine is written, we'll get to it one day. Yeah. So when Danny thinks of her hand. maids she thinks of Drogo because he, quote unquote, gave them to her. No comment. Drogo had also given her the pelt that she wore, too. She thinks about that. Greyworm leads atop the steps with four of his unsullied, burying the dead man on their shoulders. Greyworm has three spikes on his shoulder armor while his men only have one.

The man had been handsome, though he was slashed open from ear to ear, from Lees or old Valentus, maybe. He had been snatched off of a ship and sold into bondage when he was an Astipore. There are more wounds than she can count in his body, and Barriston says they found him in a drawing of a harpy in blood. The sons of the harpy did their butchery by night, and over each kill, they left their mark. Yeah. So, I don't know if this is true or not, but, like, the slashing of the mouth-to-mouth does kind of feel like an homage to Batman. and The Joker, and this is one that, like, I didn't just, like, make up, I think, unlike the other things that I say are inspired, like, because the Dark Night came out in 2008, and, I don't

know, George loves his comic book and superhero homagees. It's really funny you say that, because actually, you keep doing this every week where you say, like, oh, I think this was inspired by this comic, and I'm just like, I have never thought that, and I read the comics that you're talking about. I'm like, I never thought that, ever. But I was going to actually say with this one, the comedian from Watchmen, I think that's probably maybe closer.

I haven't like read Watchmen since also probably 2008. What? What happened with the comedian again? So. Actually, literally, probably not. He gets his face slashed out with a broken bottle, basically. And he gets slashed open from ear to ear. I mean, he kind of deserves it, but he basically, the North Vietnamese surrender because of Dr. Manhattan's powers.

And he gets confronted by his lover who's a pregnant Vietnamese woman that he impregnated while, yes, the eye role that Eliana just did. I hope you all heard it because I think I could hear it all the way across the country. But yeah, the comedian's a fucking piece of shit. I mean, that's real. So anyways, he's like, I'm going to plan to leave the country and get out of here. and you're not coming with me and she's in a rage and she slashes his face

open with a broken bottle and as you could imagine yes it was good for her as her last act oh no I hate that for her he's the worst but basically his face is disfigured he has a scar from like his right eye

down to the corner of his mouth and that's why he wears like the leather gimp mask oh okay all right yeah I don't like remember him that much I mostly remember being upset about the differences between the movie and the film because I was like bring back the alien invasion I should get you the

really beautiful like official graphic novel the whole one I'm I don't know if I make do I have one I don't know and I was like bring back though what is that name the like the the boat man remember how there's like an ongoing like boatman side plot and it's thematic yes I was about that I love that um i love that i also love the like the flashback stuff of like the old days um what was it the young mariner right he's like marooned marooned is that the side story from that series oh yeah that might have been what it was yeah no that's what i was talking about the lone mariner yeah i loved that yeah yeah yeah and also i was like okay me she should appreciate it the dr manhattan weird like orgy thing more, you know?

I was like, honestly, Slay. Yeah, that's true. Manhattan rocks. I think about Manhattan all the time. Yeah, for real. Yeah, I don't know, but I think he might have been thinking about the Watchmen maybe. Okay.

Yeah, it's possible. That feels maybe indicative of his upbringing more. The Joker, like, yeah, but it's not, he's very comics. Yeah, I was just thinking like because this is like the victim, right? The guy who died. And, like, that's kind of what I... The Joker was doing that in that movie, right? I don't remember. I don't know anything.

I don't remember anything from that time. I wasn't even born yet. De Neri's asked why this guy was alone, and Greyworm tells her that Stalwart Shield was off duty and had attended a pleasure house to drink and find companionship. And we have a line that explains that the brothels had sprouted up like mushrooms all over Marine. Lots to comment here. I will say,

I did a little Tyrion 1 reading today You know when one does You know you just sit around you're like What if I read Tyrion 1 as a lark And I did Around the corner It's coming She's coming for us

I did think that Of the the mushrooms when I read this In general from Tyrion's last chapter Right the mushrooms that he Forges because he's really into cottage core now But also the mushrooms that Illyrio tries to feed to him And then also we have that running line of brothels and sex work and where do whores go going on in his first chapter. So I thought that was kind of fun because if brothels are sprouting up like mushrooms over here and wherever Danny kind of goes,

Tyrion is following that trail right now. Ironically, it leads him to her. Literally, that's where he and Jora end up, right, in a brothel. Yeah, that's a good thematic tie between what's going on in their respective stories. He's following Tysha's trail to find Danny, but he's not actually following him. her tail. There's also something here where it has this language about how the price of flesh has been getting cheaper while the price of food has been getting higher. And it just kind of feels cannibalistic, like adjacent. And like, I don't know that it's intentional or not, but like

considering how many thematic ties there are going on, it does feel that way, especially because people might have to start turning to cannibalism at some point in the story. But I mean, I mean, Alirio says it in the last chapter, to Tyrion, that starvation is coming for everyone. But also, it's kind of just, like, in a way, they were kind of feasting off the flesh of things, right? Like a feast for crows. They're eating the people. The crows are, I mean. Yum.

But also, like, both. Very recession core of them, you know, the cannibalism. JK., JK. I am kind of like, what is. I mean, it is, though. Yeah, what if we, like, taught them how to re-skill? What if we gave everyone, like, trades? I mean, clearly the economy is suffering right now.

What if we train the people in other jobs? Not just that. Like, this is fine. But, like, literally, there's so many people out there right now in Marine. And they're like, what do we do? I was thinking about that. Yeah. It's not one-one, but you think about Agan and Rainey's and Vesnia

and why they worked so well as a trio, which is that each of them covered a principle that keeps the nation sewed together, right? Vesnia covers the Marshall. Agan covers diplomacy. see Rainey's covers skills and arts and trade and different things that also keep people alive in their souls, in their spirits, as well as in their hands and as well as in their lives. So I think there was just like certain parts like economics for Rainies and Vesnia for armies and diplomacy for Egan.

You have all these very base traits that blend together. And while reading this chapter, it really struck me of how alone DeNeres is. She doesn't have the width and depth in all of these. there's something interesting about, like, she just doesn't have, like, a way to implement all this stuff. I mean, it's coming up in just a moment, right, that we'll learn about that she doesn't have the right people, the right place, the right stuff going on, that she can even rebuild any infrastructure. She really does, like, she has no idea about any kind of infrastructure. And, like, again, in her defense, they've taught her everything but that. They've taught her how to be a conqueror, but not a ruler, which is why she's, like, here, but she doesn't really see that gap and understand it, especially because, like, what she's trying to rule over.

is a city that had like a fucking broken-ass infrastructure, right? Like, this is not a good system. And trying to transition from that makes it difficult. But also, like, you're so right about the originally conquering trio. Vesnia is Gannon. Egan is Link. And Radies is Zelda. I'm not falling for that.

That's bait. I mean, I'm not wrong. Let's be real. I'm not wrong. I mean, no one's written in to agree with you. So, God, now that I fucking said it, though, Jesus fucking crazy. Yeah, actually, no, you're right. They haven't.

Yeah. And the language reminds me actually of Meathouse, man. Oh, yeah. Especially because like there's an equation there again, like not just like the literal cannibalism, but like an equation of the meat and the flesh and the food together. And it's like you're saying too, right? Like the price is getting very close to being similar, if not cheaper, to just eat people. It might, but I think they will not do that. For the same reason, maybe you just shouldn't touch random dead people, which again, dysentery.

I mean, I don't know, they have a giant grill. I mean, that's not nice. I should just call them drogan, but they have a giant slow cooking or fast cooking. That's why they release the other two just to increase protection. ready to eat food oh god alright so danny back in the tragedy of stalwart shield

Danny asks what could a eunuch find in a brothel why would he have gone to a brothel and greyworm gives her a little education and reminds her that like one without a man's parts still has a man's heart Stellert shield would go and give coin to the women to lie with him and hold him and there's some of the thesis right everyone needs love

That's also Meathouse Man Coded, which is all the thesis of which is also that everyone needs love. Yeah, which I think you are onto something, Eliana, well-straught. That is what the last POV. And I mean, I think that's what DeNaris' POV is about. You and I have been saying this for a long time. What would happen if His Dar, if Dario, if Drogo, if all these men had turned to her and just offered her, like, intimate communication, commitment, you know, Love, what would have happened? She could have just abandoned it all.

What if, like, till Dario, I mean, it's too late by the time he comes. But what if, what if they had just said, here's our beautiful home, we can stay here, we can be content, you'll be safe. Arguably, what could that life have been? She'll never know. Arguably, Dario, I mean, like, he offers her a little, like, in terms of love, but, you know, she, she didn't necessarily, I guess, she wanted the promise of home. Home was supposed to have love. and we have a line here goes along with it a little of

So you see this name, this chosen name goes on. And it is a very strong name. I mean, Alicent Hightower's brother called her son Darren, Stellwart and House of the Dragon.

I'm just kidding. I'm sorry. She did. I mean, he did. But yeah. Makes me big sad, bro. That scene was so sad. That, like, made me cry. And I don't even, like, care what happens to any of these people, but it made me cry.

It was just beautiful. Like, she's such a compelling, compelling character with what they've done with. Yeah. So compelling. She's in something soon. I forgot what. I saw, like a... Trouble chains in Renera's dungeon is what I'm hearing.

have the time she's never had to live in a way, right? She wants to afford them a life, which is very, very admirable, very honorable. And we start this book with her fighting shadows and enemies all around her in this chapter, and then it ends with one great shadow that she can't fight. Drogon, herself, right? Embracing herself.

We start to see this outline form between the two routes Danny has to take, choosing to govern, choosing to conquer, the fallout and mess that comes from both. At the front of the book, she's thinking, I wanted time to build and heal, and at the end of the book, she's speaking to ghost astroplane, fake in her head.

She's dehydrated, and her tummy really hurts, Jora. And he's saying, I told you, I told you. Your wars in Westeros not here, I told you. And she says, I was young. I had wanted my people to live. I had wanted them. to build and heal again, Jora. She says it again, right?

We've returned full circle. When you look at this chapter versus Circe one in a dance with dragons, it's interesting because it's actually kind of similar in a few ways. You have prophecy, dreams, betrayals, enemies everywhere. But Danny isn't really immediately assigning the enemies, the betrayals. She's more ponderous. She's like, could it be this person? Could it be this person?

They're all around. Not that much of a difference. Circe is out there just assigning shooters. She's like, and then Kevin looked at me wrong, and I knew. he was plotting my death. But you know what? Like, not that different in the long run. Was he not?

Two things can be true. Sorcey's doing it in a wacky and zany way. Danny's doing it in a tragic and eloquent way. Just kidding. They're both a little desperate in the POV thoughts. That's it. There's a lot of desperation of being alone, having no one. Life's hard.

to kind of play with the real players and I think there's a lot of it could be really difficult to keep track of like Danny's players in her court right they we don't have three books to understand varies with this right her varies We don't have, we have Barrison as the Queen's hand. We have Scahas, leading the shave paints and the brazen beast. Tilly's fired. Get a job. Marcellin, the mother's men.

Simon is leading the Free Brothers. Taltrak, the Stalbert Shields. Greyworm, the Unsullied, later Jokin and Widower lead the Storm Crows when Dario is unavailable due to hostagesry. There's Ron Moe, who's leading the Calisar, while the Calisar is also unavailable. And then there's Bellas, who's just Bellas, right? He's leading everyone. His web connects us all, honestly.

He's leading the podcast. That would be incredible merch, a, like, artwork of Bellas, and it just says his web connects us all. No other info. And then you have, like, a web, like, carved into his stomach and all the sashes. Sick. Write it down. Write it down right now. That's incredible.

she found a way to do it without doing too much disruption of the people and without being like how could you do this one thing and now everyone shall suffer like Joffrey or Taiwan or someone else would have done right I mean I think like the tickler I think of that as a that's a local system of justice the tickler you know she's not necessarily doing that however she's finding the way through using means that even her counselors here in

private and this is also a big difference this is like a private session yeah some of the counselors are emergency here for where later they can't be present they can't they can't They can be there, but they need to agree with what she says in order for her to maintain control. So here, she's able to actually think out loud a little bit with them. Well, you also don't like want too many people, I guess, knowing about these things because it also weakens your rule a little if too many people are getting away with it, you know? Like, she straight up says, like, oh, I think I despise some of these people. Why are they terrible? How do you rule that? And bad news, she's going to get to Westeros, and it's not going to be different, whether you're wearing a tookar or mirish lace. They're not going to kneel for you immediately. It's going to be difficult. It'll be, yeah, unbent. You're going to come to Westros, and guess what?

You're probably going to hate these people, too, because they're not that different. They just call it capitalism. Oh, that's the USA. Never mind. They just call it futilism. And it kind of makes me think about the future of her coming to Westeros and her coming to Dragonstone, and maybe she does find Valerian garb in the fucking closets. And maybe she will have her outfits.

reflect what the Valerians wore because she won't give a fuck anymore, right, about the Westerosy cosplay. She's already done it. She's done it in Marine in a harder place. I do also like the callout of House Paul, now being women led, and we start soon to understand what happened to them in the future. But it's interesting, not 1-1, not likening it 1-1, but it reminds you a bit of like after the dance, all of the widows that are left after the wars and after the different battles, you start to kind of see and mimic the Westeros set up too of what happens with war and what happens in the country when you kill off a generation and how that behaves in response, not unlike the Starks, right, with the entire rebellion and how that rose.

Something really interesting here is happening with the whole looks being deceiving thing. We have this whole passage about how Resnach is being called out as like a simp flatterer to Denaries and how she doesn't trust him. And she's like, oh, he's too fucking much. He's over-eager. He's perfumed. He's kind of gross. And he didn't shave his head. He's just bald. Like, he's just bald as fuck where shave-pate and his men shave their heads and they're acting super eager about the new world and fitting into it and being like, yes, we very much support your new world Denaries and we're shaving our head to prove it. No more of our wings, our winged hair, as most these men have. So there's this comparison of like the natural baldness of Resnack

to Scaha's shaving his head. And there's something interesting going on and like later when the shave paint is fired and how there's a lot of reactions. You know, there's the famed Adam Feldman theorizing of shave paint with the honeyed locusts. Could be. I don't know that I have like a real opinion. I might by the time we get there, but I don't know that I have a real opinion on that yet. But it's interesting that Danny feels very against Reznak and like she's more likened to Scahas because I kind of think he seems over-eager in his way. And you see his reaction when he's fired. I kind of think it's a bait and switch that George likes to pull because we've got a few of these throughout the chapter where things aren't as they seem that I kind of wonder if

Reznak is actually the somewhat loyal one. Right? That's your big red hair. of like, it's not Resnack, he's just like this little dude. He's just a guy. He's just a guy. I don't know. Something feels really off there and, like, maybe we're misjudging Resnack. You know, maybe we should be supporting the natural bald man. I don't know.

Yeah. I don't know. Like, there's something about Scahas. Like, so, like, Scahas could, like, secretly be part of the whole thing, you know, with the Sons of the Harpy and stuff. I know some people also say it could be Gala Zagalare, because she's a woman and the Harvey's woman. I'm like, that's an interesting idea too, right? But I am kind of like, yeah, maybe Skahas was like secretly not pro freedom. Because like, yeah, like Feldman talks about maybe the piece is real, though.

I think in later years, and this kind of framing makes sense to me. People have said the peace is not real. her rulings are not balanced. They're not consistent as we go through each of these. And it's not a very easy situation to judge, right? Like, it's a complex situation. Everyone's somewhat different. But they're all kind of the same in the end that they are looking for, well, the masters are looking mostly for reparations for getting their slaves stolen from them, which is backwards.

Yeah, I'm like, masters don't deserve reparations. And slaves are looking, are freedmen. are looking for reparations as well, right, from their time being enslaved. So it's a very hard balance to strike. And then, like, it really sucks that she told everyone not to ever question her in public, Beau, too, because, like, yes, she can't be seen as weak. But also, where are advising? Where advise?

Who advise? Where advise? None of this is, it's arbitrary. It's inconsistent. It's not a good front because each of these ends up a little different. Yeah, she also doesn't have any people who would be very good at advising her in some of this anyway, but also like... Yeah, she has no one. It's difficult because also, like, I'm sorry, this is just, like, not a sustainable legal system, and it's not like, she didn't come up with it, right?

This is just the way that she sold the legal system is supposed to work, but I'm like, to rule individually on each one of these without, like, any sort of set guidelines on what... the laws are like arguably this is what standard operating too like with the other like the end the bones they're like everyone with bone problems will go to the temple and that's the first time they standard operating procedures that's true but she needs some SOPs she needs some governance like to guide here like what is the rule the rules seem arbitrary we gotta like sit down write down like you know I don't know some 10 commandments or some shit right like it's a starting point And like... A declaration, if you will.

As a very emotional 14-year-old girl, I get it. Yeah. And other people were bad also. You know, it's just like not Yeah. It's not a good system. And also it would make her probably feel a lot better if we just made a better. I mean, this is what Egan the second was doing, right? He was also going by vibes. And she didn't come up with the system. She insists on alternating the petitioners, the former slaves and the masters. That's actually a pretty good system. I like that idea. Most are seeking redress, as you pointed out. The city's poorer districts face chaos. There's looting, murder, and hunger. Her unsulling. have restored some order, but clearly problems still remain. A noble woman returns after fleeing in the battle to find her home now a brothel. It's workers wearing her gowns and jewels.

Again, slay. Danny orders the jewels return to the owner, but the woman had abandoned the house, so she's just got to get over it. I don't know. I like the idea that the former sex slaves now have their own business and took her gowns and jewels. Maybe I shouldn't. Like, oh, God, I also would rule on vibes. Let's be real. A freedman accuses a noble of House Jacques,

Zocke, of impregnating his wife when she was his bed slave, when she was that nobles bed slave. The freedman demands a gelding and gold of the nobleman, and Danny grants the gold, but she doesn't agree for the gelding because by old law, it wasn't rape. Another scenario. These are all, like, difficult scenarios. A scarred boy.

Yeah, tells about how his father's slaves killed his family during the sack, and one of them now lives in his house, and another has joined the mother's men, and he wants both of those people hanged. And we have this line here of I'm Queen over a city built on dust and death. Danny had no choice but to deny him. Yeah, she had declared a blanket pardon during the sack for any crimes committed. Oh, the purge. Which I think kind of, yeah, I mean, a law, right? But I think that kind of has fucked her at the same time with all of this.

So she decided she wouldn't punish slaves for rising against their masters. And I do think that you kind of are seeing something, a disparity, right, between the freedmen and nobles. And by handing out arbitrarily these kind of like, okay, you get this, you get this. You don't get this. You don't get this. It's not building relations, right? Because here we see the boy rush at her and his feet get tangled in the tocar, which absolutely has to be a metaphor. And he goes sprawling and strong bellwoss is on him at once restraining him and maybe beating him.

And Danny calls for him to be released and she's like, you should treasure that tokar for it saved your life. Again, metaphorical, it probably has many times, but maybe not anymore. And they'll forget what happened here. And we have this line, this poignant line. This is like a haunting line, truly. But as he left, the boy looked back over his shoulder. And when she saw his eyes, Danny thought the harpy has another son. That Tokar like saving his life, but also being what condemned his family in some aspects, right?

As a class signifier. Yeah, there's something really real there. Yeah, I don't know, this is very difficult. There's a lot to govern here. And how do you do it non-arbitrarily? That's the big question. It's, yeah, it's a very difficult situation, and it's exactly, I think, I'm happy for you, George. You know, I think a five-year gap would have been really interesting, but clearly this is kind of the questions that you wanted to explore when you talk about Aragon's tax policy.

Like, this is literally that. And obviously, you know, George has some interesting ideas, but also, George is not a policymaker, as we can see from some of these. And I actually, yeah, I do think this is a great mind. of all the different kinds of complex decisions. Denaries has to weigh, and, again, maybe monarchy, like, it's not the best governing system. Because, you know, besides the blanket pardon on acts that were committed during, you know, the sack, how it, when we're talking about the consistency, right, of this legal system, she would have to tell the boy, not only does the house no longer belong to him, but to the former slaves,

but she has to do so in order to keep precedent with telling that other Miranese noble woman earlier that her home turned brothel is no longer her home. That would be the consistency, the precedent that is set by that earlier ruling for this, right? And I'm sorry, like, I'm not a lawyer, so I could be very wrong about all these, but I'm just saying, I'm just saying. And, yeah, Denarius, she's thinking of herself as a queen over a city of dust and death.

And I do find that language a little interesting because that's, it reminds me of what Erie said when he's like, I don't know, let him be the king of ashes when it comes to king's landing. And ashes are kind of a dust, maybe even death. It brings me back to that line that she had that she doesn't want to rule over a kingdom that's ash and bones and dust and pain, right? She doesn't want that, yet here she is, ruling over a city of dust and death, ruling over exactly what she didn't want. She wants happy people, right? She says she wants happy families, happy people, happy ladies, happy nights.

And this is not that. This is not that. And the people are alive, right? They are not bones. They are not dead. It's just difficult. and when we taught when I likeed it to the phrase that Eerie says like I hope no one takes that out of context I'm not saying that they're the same I'm like literally not saying that they're the same I'm just saying

it's interesting because as you said right like DeNeres doesn't want that and she's really sad that the city is like this but she has no idea how to make it not like this because no one taught her agriculture and again cutting her some slack because turns out she is trying to restart the grain trade which is correct but like they only taught her war right like no one taught

She rewards him with silver and sends the fish to the kitchens.

And a copper smith presents a very beautiful decorative but absolutely useless battle suit to her. A beautiful burnished copper that would give you a way on any battlefield. Not that it would matter because she'd be roasting them, hopefully, from above. She jokes with Barriston and she's like, I think I know the quality a king needs the most barristen. Reznak, Sir Barristan said quietly. hold your tongue and open your eyes those are no sheep bones no danny thought those are the bones of a child what a way to fucking end the first chapter dude that's like george did that he did that okay george i'm sorry for everything i said this chapter i mean not last week we wouldn't have had this we wouldn't have had this without a five-year gap

She would have just fucking flown away this chapter. You know, brings me back to that quote. We wouldn't have had it with a fun-year gap, is what I meant. There we go. I knew where you were somewhat going. I kind of know where the GPS is set most of the time, okay? It'll get her there, one way or another. Brings you back to a game of Thrones.

This is war. This is what it looks like. This is the price of the Iron Throne, or at least that's what she thinks, right? Is it? Is it? It's a good callback, especially, like, because, you know, we're thinking about the food scarcity and, like, all these sheep's being eaten and people. Oh, they're the same.

We talked about that at the beginning of this chapter. It is the same. It is the same. How long are you and I going to milk that fucking joke? You'll find, ask me again in 10 years. Oh, my God. I think I say that sometimes actually in my everyday life and no one knows. Oh, I do.

I say a lot of things, unfortunately, from this podcast every day and no one gets it. I'm like, it is the same. Speaking of things that may or may not be the same, I feel, I feel like there's something happening here in the equation, like, or the equivalency that they're drawing between the sheep and the children. Obviously, like, children are not sheep, but it comes to mind when I think of other things that happen in, like, fire and blood, right? around like the shepherd and the shepherd proselytizing against like the Targaryen reign or whatever.

So something, I feel like something's happening here. And it really stands out to me that what we see in this chapter is like, this man has no ask. He's not asking for payment or anything. He only says what he has brought. He doesn't ask for justice. And like what can he even ask for, right? Like what could be worth the same as the life of his child and what does justice even look like in this situation when the state's carelessness has led to your child

being burned and eaten? Like, he doesn't have anything to say. It's just grief. And Danny of all people should understand that, right? Look at a Game of Thrones, Danny. 7, 8, 9, 10. True. 7, 8, 9. Why did it eat 9? It brings me back to that. What is that quote? Hold on. What is the life of one bastard boy worth I was thinking that originally but then I was like what's the next quote

also related which is Logan Roy where he says what could you possibly kill that you love so much it would make the sun rise again which is Danny 7 8 910 with Drogo in a Game of Thrones right where she was willing to kill anything to bring him back and here you have Reznak who jumps to the first the first thing is like, didn't you hear?

Well, something you said about, like, the taking it of the temple made me realize, you know. We talk about De Neri's and the loneliness of gods, but that is kind of something that we're seeing there too. Right, right, because people would sacrifice their sheep to the gods. You just let it go and you're like, the God has taken it and it's going to that and I don't get to eat it. But the sacrifice of children, which I don't know, allegedly happened in some or like God asked for it and I was like,
