It's going to be from 2 to 4 p.m. ET, yeah, Discord brunch slash Happy Hour or Happy Hour. Oh, it's available for the patrons in the Thunder and above. That's $10 and up, Thunder, you know, named after one of the horses in Dunk and Egg. One of the three horses coming to your screen in 2026, January.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Coming to your screen tomorrow. I'm like, are you saying that we look like horses? I actually am year of the horse. Oh, I think you all know this. I think you can all like backtrack and like I'm not doxing. I'm Year of the Horse in the Chinese Zodiac, everyone. I'm a monkey, though, bitch, I'm monkey.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Yeah, I'm so cute. I'm a little Valerian. I'm Year of the Little Valerian, actually. You know what I've been meaning to do? I hear, like, the Fruitsbasket remake, the anime, is really good. Yeah, I think it's... Vibes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:48 I don't know if I watched the first one, but I remember reading the manga back then. Yeah, I hear they did a great job with the most recent anime adaptation. So anyways, available of the thunder tier and above. Come hang. You get access to other channels. Speaking of great adaptations. How about that fucking Dunkin' Egg trailer that fucked? Just like Dunkin' Egg.
Starting point is 00:04:08 It fucked. We will be covering Dunk and Egg show. The Night of the Seven Kingdoms. I can't call it that. I'm like Dunkin' Egg show. We'll be covering that. We're going to do it every week with you. We're going to do it every week together.
Starting point is 00:04:21 We're going to take a pause, obviously, like, I guess, after we finish our Denary's coverage to make room for all that. Yeah, we're still figuring it out, but we got a date. And by date, I mean, release date. Not me and Chloe, sometimes. Every week we're on dates together. Sometimes multiple times. That's a relationship.
Starting point is 00:04:41 We don't know. We might be putting out a dunk and egg chat. We might not. Who knows? Beforehand. We might hold out for a bigger trailer, right? That was a teaser. Lots of great stuff, though, at New York Comic Con.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I highly recommend. check out Game of Owns. They have already it's October 10th and they have already put out their teaser breakdown and I'm sure they will have more episodes. They're hyped. I was texting with them and they're hyped. I'm hyped. I only text with them about Love Island and Taco Bell. You should come to our group chat. We should make a group chat, Madgeo because right now it's my roommate
Starting point is 00:05:19 and them and me and we be in their person's crazy shit. I talk to both of you guys. This is where I'm out on Love Island. I got my partner into it. And they're like, oh my gosh. Well, are you at Casa? And, yeah, so Duncan Egg, really exciting regarding the trailer. And I want to quote, just because I apparently said practically the exact same thing,
Starting point is 00:05:41 like at the exact same moment, I want to quote one of our patrons, Weirwood Allen, on the description of. This was so crazy because it happened within one minute of each other. I literally, like, texted you something very, similar. I texted you or like DM'd you. I was like, it's giving medieval land fun time world. And yeah, Weirwood Allen said at the exact same time, the edit of this show and a night's tale into medieval fun time land too will be the epic. So I'm glad that other people feel the same. My favorite part of that though was when Weirwood Allen, when they said that Mark
Starting point is 00:06:25 Addies in both medieval fun time and this. That's true. Yeah. I was like dying. I was like LMAO as well as a knight's tail. I actually did describe it. Because you know he's actually in a game of Thrones, not medieval fun time, but like the bit, the commitment to the bit from them from Weird Allen. Very fun. I was with at lunch with people like before I think that like I sent that or watched a trailer and I told them. I was like yeah, it's basically like a Knight's Tale regarding Yeah, it's Chaucer, baby. So.
Starting point is 00:06:58 It is Chaucer. Cute. Straight up. Straight up. Really excited. The world's alive. The internet's alive. I'm alive.
Starting point is 00:07:07 Everyone is so. Everybody is posting great-ass memes. I saw this meme. It's not as funny when I say it, but I'm going to read it to you of like, forget about black and green. It's black and red bitch. And then it was like, uh, take your sensitive. ass back to House of the Dragon. Oh, I thought it would be funny if they said red and black, though, because
Starting point is 00:07:27 black fires. Or red or black. Yeah, but that was the joke. That's the, like, it's black or red now. Take your sensitive ass back to House of the Dragon. Oh, see, I get it now. Yeah. Sorry, I'm slow. As you said, it's not... See, memes are better when you look at them. It's not the original medium. You know, this is not the way that God intended for me to understand it. Same to all of you. I'll send a screenshot. Hopefully, Eliana can put it in the Patreon post of this episode for you all. I had the whole link up that I told you all that I was going to link in last week's episode.
Starting point is 00:07:57 And I'm going to edit that into the post because I told you all I was going to link it. I had it open in the window, too, so I could link it. And then I forgot to put it in there. Wow. We are your number one meme source. That one was not a meme. That was like a Reddit thread. So, yeah, I guess go check it again.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Come to Girls Gone Canon. My bad. I will read you memes and Reddit threads. My bad. Hell, we'll be back with more thoughts on Duncan Egg, but today, there's only one person we're focused on, and that is John Connington. The motherfucking, my God, Mother of Dragons was what I was going to say. Damn, let's get to the lightning round for what you missed between Danny 4 and Danny 5, starting with the Lost Lord. John Connington will see Rhaegar's son on the throne or die in the attempt, or maybe of Grayscale.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Or both, porcannolostos. Oh. The windblown. Frog and his friends are ordered to defect to Queen Denaries. Wow, that was so... How convenient. So convenient. I'm like remembering, I'm like...
Starting point is 00:09:11 Dude, I know. Quentin. I miss that boy. Same. Poor Quentin. The wayward brought. At Deepwood Ma, all is fair in love and war. Can I tell you something that, like, I saw on the subreddit that I did not know existed, but it fascinates me?
Starting point is 00:09:31 I was joking about Stannis and always pull out because now look at what happened to him after he nutted in someone twice. And someone, like, made a joke of, like, he just might die if he, uh, sleep. with Asha, and I didn't know that this was a theory people had. That, yeah, I don't know if, like, what the mechanics around it are, but regarding, I guess, Stannis and Asha sleeping together, I don't know if it's, like, some sort of shadow baby or, like, alliance thing, but I could also see it as a, like, I think there's something interesting in the idea of, like, Asha could be, like, I could rock his world, you know? Interesting.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Do you not? Like, I could make him worse. Yes, kind of like that. But I do think, like, in a very literal sense, because, like, yeah, he could die if he nuts inside her. But I don't think that's the worst way for someone to go, you know, fucking Oshah. Like, I mean, like, consensually, obviously. But, yeah, I just like think, I just think that could be really interesting for them. I didn't know this was a theory that existed out there.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Thanks, everyone for listening. Related. I saw someone say, of course, he's bald. Like, think of all the shadow babies he be birthing out of his dictated. It might have been the same thing. What if it was the same thread? I don't know. Honestly, it might be.
Starting point is 00:10:49 I think we're in the same threads a lot, reading. So, Tyrion 7. The widow of the waterfront gives a message to Tyrion to deliver to the dragon queen. Tell her, we are waiting. Tell her to come soon. And we're going to be there soon in Tyrion next year. Oh, my God. I love that chapter.
Starting point is 00:11:07 Anyway, John 6. John receives a letter revealing Ramsey has his sister or does he. and begins to plot how to get her back. Davos 4. Rabette Glover brings Davos to meet with Wyman Mandrily. You know, we got a comment, I believe, from our friend, Nonapera. I think this is where it was, who comments that Robert Glover sounds like a name that a frog would say. Rabbit.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Yeah. Robit. So. And that brings us croaking into Danny Five. Where as the pale mare descends upon Marine, Danny must choose. Bride of Fire or Bride of Hisdar. Wow, one of those is like super underwhelming. Like, Bride of Fire sounds cool as fuck.
Starting point is 00:11:54 I know, right? It is pretty cool. Go George. Welcome to Danny Five. Each morning, Danny counts. Enemy ships in Slavers Bay. Today, 25. Sometimes she miscounts, but it hardly matters because a strangler only needs but 10 fingers.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Jamie Lannister calling you out. He's only got five. No trade. Fuck, see, that's... Wow, wait. Wow, just saying, he's only got a five. Wow, more credence to the... It's Tyrion as the Valancar, and Circe was right for once, theory.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Oh, my God. There's no trade, no fishing. Her former galleys now are sailing for the enemy. Grolio suggests, why don't we show the dragons to intimidate them and restart trade, but she says no, useless. Yeah, so we already know that Tyrion has experience with, you know, fighting in like a bay somewhere and so forth. But I wouldn't be surprised if Denarius' experiences here in Marine
Starting point is 00:12:58 with this blockade inform the way she approaches taking Kings Landing, right? It could like play a role as it did in parts of the dance. Yeah, but the golet, absolutely. And I do think you're seeing a lot. Well, and interesting, we have another green family actually blocking the bay, right? We have blockades from the Thai Riles for food. So kind of interesting. Lots going on there.
Starting point is 00:13:28 I think there's definitely going to be some further blockade going on as we get to King's Landing. She'll be mastered in it by then. Hopefully she learns the lesson. like hopefully she's like yeah pull the dragons out we're not playing that game yeah yeah that's true i think that's the lesson this chapter bring the dragons out there's a couple of those in here yeah bring them out bring them out unleash the d um frustrated denarius demands a naval strategy but gruelio reminds her i'm an admiral with no ships
Starting point is 00:14:05 the slavers burned the timber and he was sent only to bring her back to Pento's not to fight a war and we have a line here of Instead you brought us here and tore my Sudilion to pieces for some nails and scraps of wood I will never see her like again
Starting point is 00:14:21 I may never see my home again nor my old wife it was not me who refused the ships this doxos offered I cannot fight the Carthine with fishing boats Hmm There's a lot on Grolio
Starting point is 00:14:37 I told you Grolio was about to be my guy this year like that I was really into him I'm so into him I don't know there's something about him I like not into him like that don't be a pervert
Starting point is 00:14:48 I just like him His name is Groleo His name is Groleo And I'm seeing Charzart and Dragonite Dancing along to it Exactly A little
Starting point is 00:15:00 Yeah Actually they do fit Somehow thematically with that and this. I didn't think about it, but they do. This line from Gorolyo here really stuck out to me. Word for word, I will never see my home again, nor my old wife. Really kind of brings Dineri's parallel with Nimeria of Nysar, right?
Starting point is 00:15:22 Bringing Marine kind of as this parallel and showing, I mean, word for word, I'm sure some of her people might have said that to her too, right? The orphans of the green blood. I will never see my home again. Why have you brought us here? What are we building? What is this for? What is it all for?
Starting point is 00:15:39 Like, in amidst the ruin, in amidst having to rebuild, right? Deneres then kind of wonders in her head immediately, and we're seeing this a lot more. She's wondering who's betraying her, who's betraying her, and she thinks is Groglio one of my betrayers? But she remembers that he's a homesick old man, and he tells her all he thinks that they can do, which is, use the dragons to burn the enemy ships. Timber burns easily. De Nerees declares that she will hear no more of her dragons, and she tells him he better pray to his gods,
Starting point is 00:16:11 his Pentoshi gods, for a storm to sink their enemies. I think Grolio is really positioned as a great Davos-Stanus character. He is one of the only people in this chapter that actually have the chops and balls to, like, tell it to her straight and say, look, I can't do this. You're asking more of me than, I'm supposed to do. And it makes me think also of Davos and Salador a bit, right?
Starting point is 00:16:38 Davos has this line and dance as passage of, If I had a thimble full of sense, I would have gone with Salah. He could have made his way back home south to Maria and their sons. I have lost four sons in the king's service and my fifth serves as his squire. I should have the right to cherish the two boys who still remain. It's been too long since I saw them. there's a lot about exile and the diaspora right here like what are we building what are we doing
Starting point is 00:17:06 what is it for and why are we doing it is what we're planning and doing still good are we building something righteous and something that will take care of folks or are we going to burn it to ash and leave them nothing to thrive on in this war there's this line here the line where she tells him you know pray to your gods for a storm
Starting point is 00:17:26 and he's like If you understood me, DeNaris, you would understand I would never pray for a storm. I'm a sailor. I'm not, that's like disrespectful to the art, right? Like, that's his art. That's jinxing it. Why would he ever pray for a storm? Yeah, it's jinxing it.
Starting point is 00:17:45 A sailor would never pray for that. And it feels significant that she has misunderstood Grolio. She's misunderstood who he is, what he's capable of, right? He's a sailor. He's not somebody who's going to make a huge plan and naval maneuver and naval build. He can't just blink, wink, and look, here are your ships. Grolio's religion is sailing, right?
Starting point is 00:18:10 Like she says, go pray to your gods, but for him, his God is the water. His religion and praying for a storm fundamentally is not who he is. And once more, she realizes that she doesn't have enough time. She's cursed with needing to build faster, needing to plant faster, needing things to grow super quickly. And it's not possible, right? We do learn that they have laid some planting down, but it takes time.
Starting point is 00:18:38 And war can't just be burning until nothing's left. I do think it's significant that he is the only person in this chapter that actually is not actively betraying her necessarily of her advisors, him embarrassed in. he's the only one telling her how he feels compared to the people who are lying and betraying her for their own agenda it's just him embarrassed in baby yeah I think at this point Grolios just given up and he gives no fucks
Starting point is 00:19:03 he's like how I don't know what the fuck am I doing here? What's she gonna do? Burn me? Okay yeah also like he's like this isn't even what I was hired for and yeah this is not in my job description yeah actually he's like how did I get stuck here and he's not wrong he's not wrong
Starting point is 00:19:19 that Denari should use the dragons which is going to something that will be hammered home throughout, again, this entire chapter. The only reason she's not doing so, as we all know, is about her fear about Drogon, you know, eating kids. Obviously, she can't explain that fear. His favorite habit. Yeah. She can't explain that fear to everyone else, because it would make her, I guess, look a little weak. And as you said, right, regarding the no sailor praise for storms, it does also make me think about some of the people who are on their way to her.
Starting point is 00:19:49 and their culture. They are sailors, but I don't know that they build their own ships. I don't really know how it all works. I'm going to be real. How do the ironborn build those ships? Like, do they have a different person doing it? Or does everyone, like, kind of know a little bit about everything? They are sailors, but they're also great, like, naval warfare people. Anyways. I mean, that's why they pillage, right? Yeah. They're very, they're good at that. But I'm also just like, do they build it? They also steal fleets, like the Redwine fleet, right? That's a part of the Iron Fleet because they stole it. Yeah. Do they build like the ships there? How how does it work? How does it work? Anyways, um, they did build. I mean, that's what Baylon did, right? That's his whole entire rebelling was he spent that time, biding his time, building ships. And that's also why they pillage and raid other resources that they don't grow themselves. But do the sailors know how to do it? It's kind of, I mean, I don't know. Like maybe they're all jack of all trades. They really might be. What he says, he's not a shipwright. A shipwright is what, she's looking here. She needs a shipwright.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Maybe they all have one. He's a ship wrong. He is a ship wrong. That's Santa Sasha one. That's a shipwrong too. But it's so funny. It's so funny to me. But also it's kind of funny. This is funny in that with Ironborn, they do have that dichotomy, right? Of the drowned god versus the storm god.
Starting point is 00:21:11 And they're like, I don't know. The storm god's the villain in their religion, but Yaron has aligned himself with that. And of course, DeNeri's Stormborn. So like, what's going on Here are some interesting stuff. Yeah. Barriston tells Dineries they have enough food. They've begun planting crops, as I mentioned.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Even the Dothraki and the Lazarine are helping. They joke briefly about the lamb men together, which makes Danny laugh. And she likes to laugh with Barrison. It's something that kind of brings her a little joy. I actually really like that whenever she gets a little joke with him. She deserves it. She deserves to be a girl and have some laughter in her life. She asks about his orphaned boys, his nights.
Starting point is 00:21:49 in training. He says four or five may become knights, perhaps more. She wonders if they might joust for her someday, recalling stories Viseries told her about the seven kingdoms and their tourneys, but Barriston says they aren't quite ready for that. Interesting. What's funny is, you know, you could always open the fight anyways. Misande interrupts, she announces Cahaz is here, escorted by two masked brazen beasts. He reports on Hizdar's movements. Hisdar has has been visiting the Great Pyramids, 11 of them, and notes there have been no murders for 26 days. I imagine like a whole like on the wall like a thing. It has been 26 days since a murder. Yeah, since a workplace, murder.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Skahaz suspects Hizdar is the Harpy, believing only the Harpy could end these killings. Danny's not quite convinced that there's just one Harpy. She says too many names have been revealed under questioning. A plethora of names. Yeah. I kind of like, I'm down to this line of if there is a harpy, it feels indicative of other things that are going on in the story, right? For me, like, I'm thinking, you know,
Starting point is 00:23:03 if there is a knight king, because I don't think it works in the books the same way it did in the show in regards to that. Like, there's not just necessarily one person running it all in the same way, like, for example, the sparrow movement, right? it's not just the high sparrow leading everyone clearly there's a dissatisfaction there amongst the small folk in Westeros to lead to that like and here this is a widespread issue right like you know with the KKK widespread issue and it's not eradicated by just cutting off like
Starting point is 00:23:38 one head or the head also again same as like the northern rebellion was in quad completely by Rob's death but obviously whatever's going on with the heartbeat because of partially because of its inspirations. It's much more sinister than all that. Yeah, and we get kind of this line in here where she says her enemies are legion, right? And that is a reference to the gospel of Mark in the Bible where a demon-possessed man says to Jesus, my name is legion for we are many, right? So it is a straight reference to that of her enemies are many. They are not just one person. And clearly one person couldn't get all this shit done? Yeah, I think it's
Starting point is 00:24:20 alone. It's strange and naive to think like only one person is behind it all. No, and De Neres knows that. But it is pretty funny that he visits 11 pyramids and it stops the murder. They're all like, I think, working on it together
Starting point is 00:24:35 is a thing, you know? They're all aligned in being like, let's break back sleep, right? You people at home want a northern conspiracy or a maister conspiracy. Here's this conspiracy in your face. for you here. They're all conspiring. Yeah. Is it a conspiracy if we all know? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Yeah, I mean, they're still conspiring. Yeah, that's true. They are, maybe that's what makes it a controversy. I don't know. I do think it's like a lot of people, you know, conspiracy theories make people not like respect the term, but a conspiracy straight up is just like defined as a plan by two or more people to commit an illegal or harmful act. There are definitely two or more people involved here. Have to be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:15 And, yeah, so she defends his d'ar, suggesting that peace may have come through, like, his gold or their marriage. And Skahaz is like, let me interrogate his dar, and she refuses, she allows only the surveillance of him. And, yeah, you were talking about, like, there are so many of these confessions, and, like, yeah, De Neri's points out that Skahaz has brought her so many of these, and they are all worthless. I'm like, oh, speaking of which, regarding all these worthless confessions that have come from, Skahaz's tortures. What happened to the wine cellar and his daughters? We don't, I don't think we know. In the words of what happened to JET in Avatar the Last Airbender, you know, it was really unclear.
Starting point is 00:25:56 I don't know that we find out what happens to them. It was really unclear. Wonder if they, you know, curtains for them? I think. I think. Seems so. Question sharply. Question mark, question mark.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Question mark. On my part. Also, I know. know that, and I mean, look, Hizdar kind of laid it out, like, you know, if you have me questioned, things will get worse, because
Starting point is 00:26:25 no matter what, it won't be a fair questioning. Skahas will come up with something and you will never know. Biach is kind of what he said, last chapter, which was kind of like a half truth or a half, like, reveal, but also like a half
Starting point is 00:26:41 threat, but also like there's a whole third half, which isn't math. And it's like saying, like, look, you'll be looked at as an unfair fucked up tyrant if you do this, which is also true. But, and I know it's all very complex. We're in a lot of shades of complexity. But yes, in the short term, it might not help. But clearly he knows what's happening here. And clearly he knows who to talk to to kind of shut shit down and get him to stop the murders for.
Starting point is 00:27:15 90 days until they get their city back. Yeah. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Just don't do crime for 90 days. And then on day 90, he's going to Jason Mendoza. That might be like, okay, do crime now. That's over. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:28 Like, he does clearly know something. He knows the Grand Wizard or whatever, like, that term is, which I think that actually might be the term. I forgot if it's like a dragon. The Wonderful Grand Wizard of Oz? Oh, no. The KKK, like that's legitimate. I know it.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Unless it's a dragon. I forgot. I forgot. I forgot, like, which... I don't know. They have, like, ridiculous things. I'm like, I can't... Yeah, I don't know much about their, um, stature of, you know, their employee organization.
Starting point is 00:27:54 Yeah, but if you kill one, they're just going to make another one, you know? Yeah. I mean, she already has made many more, right? I guess. They are legion. She's watched it happen in front of her eyes. Yeah. And I'm not saying, like, it's hopeless.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I'm just saying, like, there's going to be more. Should burn them. Like, burninate them. Trugdoor. So, Scahaz hands are a list of the Maranese ships that are in the blockade. They're all captained by some of those
Starting point is 00:28:20 great masters from ruling families. Not actually them. That would be ridiculous if they actually did work. He suggests seizing their kin as hostages. But Danny refuses, fearing civil war. She instead burns the list. And I feel like I think that what feels off about
Starting point is 00:28:37 Scahas and why people have all these theories about him is he is so caught up in the idea. of finding the harpies sons, which like, he should be. We should be reading them out. But his suggestions, they just seem so bent on vengeance instead. Like, it's giving chip on his shoulder. It's giving Walder Frey, being mad that he couldn't sit at the cool table. It's giving, like, Peter Balish being like, why couldn't you let me marry Catlin? Instead of being, like, you know, if he actually truly cared about justice, maybe he would strengthen also the
Starting point is 00:29:14 Friedman, right? And he kind of has some like community watches a little with the Brazen Beast, but I feel like, you know, he's not really doing the best that he could in that he's got his vengeance thing. And I think, you know, I don't think that's like a, I think that's the point. That's the point that he's written like that. But that's part of why he feels so off. Yeah. I like that actually. That's a, that's very perceptive, Aliana. Good thoughts. Good thinking. I'm like, why does everyone have speculations? Because he's like very focused. Yeah, he's very focused on the thing that's like, is that really justice, bro? I don't know. No, but winning is justice. Barriston says that Rhaegar would be proud of her for this choice, but instead of smiling and being like, yes, you're so right. Thanks for telling me that Barristan. She thinks to herself. Jora's words, they echo in her mind.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Rhaegar fought nobly, Rhaegar fought valiantly, and Rhaegar died. Just don't come inside. That's a lot to say there. Below, the purple marble hall is almost empty. There are no petitioners. Resnach tells her the city is afraid right now. They don't want to come to her. It's war.
Starting point is 00:30:31 While she thinks there's nothing to fear, Later, she's told Galazagalar, and three blue graces and greyworm have come from the temple to urgently speak with her about Astapur. We have a passage. He came out of the morning mists, a rider on a pale horse, dying. His mare was staggering as she approached the city gates, her sides pink with blood and lather, her eyes rolling with terror. Her rider called out, She is burning. She is burning. and fell from the saddle.
Starting point is 00:31:05 This one was sent for and gave orders that the rider be brought to the blue graces. When your servants carried him inside the gates, he cried out again. She is burning. Under his tokar,
Starting point is 00:31:17 he was a skeleton, all bones and fevered flesh. Ooh. Yeah. Very ominous. I don't know if I'm supposed to be thinking of London's burning. Like the nursery ride.
Starting point is 00:31:33 with that. Interesting. I don't know. Interesting. Well, and there are like a lot of rhymes later, right? The Astapur rhyme. So like maybe you should be thinking that. And also, of course, Revelation, right? Yeah. This is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. This is Revelation 6, 8. The rider's name death and Hades. The grave is behind him. The other ones are in the Dunkin' Egg trailer. No, I'm trying. All four, total. Wow. There's also something reminiscent because we're just coming off of the John chapter where Melisandra and him are trying to save Aria and you have the girl in gray on a dying horse. That sticks out to me because we just saw that vision and yes, we attribute that to Alice Carstark and that it's like a misnomer
Starting point is 00:32:21 that it wasn't Aria. But hey, could be the mayor because it can be whatever you want it to believe, baby. That's the power of prophecy. That's what we've learned in this book, right? It can mean whatever. Or the knot power. But yeah, agreed. Agreed. I like the idea that it's also... It's poetry.
Starting point is 00:32:43 It rhymes across those chapters. Yeah, no, absolutely. I think there's a lot of great parallels going on in there. The idea also, like, I'm not to put air away with ARIA, but there is something of, like, John's every thought surrounding Aria and Danny's every thought in this chapter echoing Aeroa that will come to. Yeah, that's interesting.
Starting point is 00:33:06 The guilt. John's got a lot of guilt. Yeah, bro. A dying man's grisly symptoms. It's bloody stool, a bleeding horse. These are seen by the blue graces as a divine omen. The pale mare, a harbinger of ruin, with Aastapur fallen. Teneres realizes, Yunkai will soon march north.
Starting point is 00:33:29 She orders Barriston to recall her forces, the blood riders, the second sons, and the storm crows. She dreams of betrayal and death, of brown ben plum, but after eight days he returns. Relieved, she jokes with him, but he brings grim news, Astopor is lost. Three survivors, a bricklayer, weaver, and cobbler are all that remain of a dozen who fled the Red City. The Red City. She should have trusted her dream. She should have trusted her dream I mean like it's hard right
Starting point is 00:34:01 She has so many dreams about like things like that How can you know which one's like a real prophecy And which one's just like a I think I ate something weird last night I would say it really is like These are probably some dragon dreams in some ways I agree and also I don't know But sometimes like you gotta trust your gut
Starting point is 00:34:20 And sometimes the gut is coming in the dreams I was just gonna say To quote Jewel Follow your heart Your intuition and it will lead you in the right direction. Yes. A fire, high, shake into a hitcher.
Starting point is 00:34:34 That is how it goes. Yes, I haven't heard that song in a very long time. Wow. I'm a really big Jewel fan. I don't know that. I play, yeah, I play acoustic guitar, dude. Of course I'm a Jewel fan. And you have to be too.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Okay. I didn't know that. But, okay, good to know. Okay, well, I'll get you started. I'll work on it. I'll send you the hits, like the good ones. But this one always comes on once in a while if you've got like the This is Jewel playlist going.
Starting point is 00:35:01 And I'm like, well, it's a banger still. So you got to. So I guess I should. It's time. Oh, I'm going to hook you up. I'm going to give you a playlist tonight. Oh, you just made my night. They describe starvation and horror in Astipore.
Starting point is 00:35:15 Devoured crops, cannibalism, cats, and rats as food. King, cutthroat and queen horror turned on one another. Chaos consumed the city. Danny is told, despite the size, suffering, many still believed she would return to save them. Actually, it's like a major fucking guilt trip, and it seems intentional that the Green Grace brought them and was like, now tell them what we practiced on the way here. We still thought you would come.
Starting point is 00:35:41 Despite all the butchering and the murder, we said, Danny's getting on her dragon right now, and she's going to save us all. It's pretty devastating. She learns the Butcher King led a doomed final charge in copper armor, inspired by the Green Grace's false. prophecy. He was cut down, the grace impaled, and the last survivors poisoned themselves on a beautiful feast in order to escape the everlasting agony of what they're calling life. The bloody flux killed most of those that were left, and eventually the gates fell,
Starting point is 00:36:14 the guards were torn apart. New geese forces flooded in. The last leaders died horribly, but even then, some still believed De Neres would come, riding her dragon. Harkening back to what you were talking about with Blackwater at the top of the episode, there are a lot of Blackwater vibes going on, right? Like, this is very much a redux of clash. Right here we have Renley's ghost. Same idea. I thought from your note you were going to say, and now, and like, this is now my head canon, that this person had a vision, like, actually, like, the green grace that they have there, had a vision that was the same one. of Garland Tyrell in Renley's armor or something
Starting point is 00:37:02 and thought that that's what they were supposed to do. But I guess that's not what you meant, but it doesn't matter. She was trying to, you know, have the Savior come and save them, a harpy come and save them, a golden armored Cleon, the one, come save them and melt their enemies away.
Starting point is 00:37:25 I mean, yeah, But it also, my head canon is they got the same vision now and everyone misinterpreted it. That's fair. Which is, again, not wrong when you think, I mean, that's the true song of Ice Sinclair, baby. Ask Agan. Besides the friends we made it along the way. Oh, my God. We have a, they say that the healthy people were killing the guards to get out of the main gate and escape the bloody flocks.
Starting point is 00:37:54 And before they said, like, oh, some of the people went mad from illness and did that. They were like, no, those were actually the healthy ones. And I think it's giving us a glimpse of what to expect with the grayscale plague, right? Like, there was that one high tower a long time ago who was like, we got to contain the grayscale epidemic and just locked everyone in. So I don't know. Seems like a lot of the palmer stuff is just sort of part one. Thanks a lot, John Kahn. The pandemic levato.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Yeah, for bringing Grayscale to Westeros and hiding it. Oh, my God. Hey, that's how it goes, right? Once you have one, it leaves them susceptible to more, though. I do think Shereen's going to get blamed for it, which kind of sucks. I love that they can just blame, like, a nine-year-old girl. I mean, people do that all the time. That's what happened in East of Eden.
Starting point is 00:38:43 And look at what happened. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Look at what happened. Anyways. East of Eden, famously not House of Leaves, by the way. Yeah. I was just like, I, like, I love that you thought that... Like, she would never read how some ways.
Starting point is 00:38:57 No, I would love to be, like, I would love to. I intend to one day. It's just like... You have not. I haven't. And, like, it seems like a commitment that I don't have yet the time for. But I love that you thought that I had. Like, I love that the version of you, of me that you think of, is that cool.
Starting point is 00:39:18 I'm just making shit up in my head, dude, all the time. My imagination, incredible. absolutely incredible. I just imagine Eliana and she'd be reading. In your imagination, I'm out there in copper armor saving the city. Absolutely right. You're like, but the fuck? Where are we going with this?
Starting point is 00:39:33 Anyway. Danny reflects. She can barely feed her own people, let alone all these people that are coming to her and being like, save us, save our lives. I could not come, the queen thought. I dare not. And when the city fell, they say,
Starting point is 00:39:50 the true butchery began. Fires burning throughout the city, mobs in the street, no way out. Yonkai held the gates, yet the brickmaker, cobbler, and weaver had all escaped using their own skills, talents, and history to find a way out. We have a passage. I left you with a council to rule over you, Danny thought. A healer, a scholar, a priest. She could still recall the red city as she had first seen it, dry and dusty behind its red brick walls, dreaming cruel dreams, yet, full of life there were islands in the worm where lovers kissed but in the plaza of punishment
Starting point is 00:40:27 they peeled the skin off men in strips and left them hanging naked for the flies danny promises the refugees safety and marine the cobbler thanks her the brickmaker kisses her foot but the weaver seems to see through what danny even calls in her head her lies meeting her eye she seems to know danny can never truly protect us and isn't that Danny's big fear. It is her big fear. Yeah. The lamb people.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I mean, I think she could. Misande. She could on the dragons. Yep. Bust them out. Bust them out, girl. Let's go. Light it up.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Who cares? It's telling that the weaver is the one who like is most condemning of her and sees through her because the weaver is the one who reminded us each time that people kept saying that Dineris would return for them. And I think there's an aspect of. that of being like, I believed, I believe the most out of all the people here who have survived that you would come back for us and you fucking didn't. That's the condemnation, right? And it makes me think a little bit of like, you know, the USAID funding cuts. Wow. Yeah. That was a jarring
Starting point is 00:41:41 transition. Sorry everyone, but that is what it made me think of. You're so real, though. Thank you, Eliana, for keeping it real. Wow. You know, like... She went there. Are we delivering aid to a bunch of these countries because our country destabilize them partially and also is the aid to an extent, like a chain sometimes? Kind of, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:06 But also at the same time, like, were people who were delivering, like, very necessary services and, like, actual relief and, like, things in natural disasters, depending on that funding. Yes. So, yeah. Anyways, stepping down from yet another soapbox. I also think...
Starting point is 00:42:27 It's your soapbox, girl. Sometimes I wonder, not about the soapbox. I was wondering this just now. I was like, man, how much shorter would our episodes be if you and I weren't gallivanting all the time? Oh my God. So this weaver
Starting point is 00:42:42 and the other weavers she knew, I assume like many of those other weavers were women. And so, you know, she kind of knows what that suffering looks like much more than perhaps, like, bricklayer, the brickmaker, and the cobbler, right? There's a difference there in regards to perhaps the sexual violence that they would have endured. Also, telling that when it comes to this, what happens here with the messengers from Asked for, we have three. It makes me think of the three magi, basically, and by that, I mean, you know, they weren't magi, but they were magi that found her in the desert of the red waste. but also there's something telling that it was a brickmaker, right? Who's the one who's able to escape,
Starting point is 00:43:20 especially when we remember the line later on of like, blood and bricks made Astopor and Blood and Bricks are people. I'm like, oh, yeah, bricks. By Benfold's five? Oh, I was thinking the movie. Oh, yeah, that too. Inside me there are two wolves, one.
Starting point is 00:43:38 There are two people in this podcast, and you are either Eliana or you are Chloe. You either love going to the air. airport early or you hate sitting at the airport gate those are the only two genders see that's a thing you just have a few beers on the way that's all you need eliana that'll fix the weight no that's it that's all have you know please write in please tell us are you an early airport arrival or are you a fuck it i'll get there on time i'm i'm there on time just in time no i'm like there early enough but i hate waiting there because oh my god we almost like missed a flight leaving korea and i was like
Starting point is 00:44:20 i've never missed a flight in my life and i'm not about to start now because i'm there on time good for you sometimes it is just in time but i'm on time i'll never forget actually it was literally like a year ago oh i thought you meant a year ago no i wasn't going to talk about that you're the one bringing you up i wasn't going to talk about the time we missed the train The train is different. That's not a plane. A train's different, and that was bullshit. Okay, getting inside Moyahan sometimes, if you don't have enough time, like, listen, it was stressful.
Starting point is 00:44:51 My boss, last year, literally, like, this weekend last year, my boss, like, I got to the gate straight up, like, and then they called my zone, and then I was up. And that was so stressful to me. I'm like, uh-uh, uh-uh, I don't like what you put me through. Yeah. One time I was at the gate, but I was clearly. just jamming too much and I looked and I was like everyone's gone and they called my zone a while ago. I was like, oh, fuck. Last call. I was there on time. I just happened to be very engrossed in whatever the fuck I was doing. Bizarre. She was viving. See, how much record would these episodes
Starting point is 00:45:26 be? If you didn't learn all this about us. I don't know. I don't know. It's important because otherwise this is a swift episode today. So we're giving you we're giving you a little filler. We're getting to know each other. Oh my God. Yeah, because then it would be canceled. or whatever. We're actually romantic. No, I'm joking. I love Charlie X-CX. I will bleed out on this podcast.
Starting point is 00:45:50 Brown Ben reports, more are coming. The sick, the burned, the wounded, driven north by the windblown and the long lances. He urges her, don't let them in. But Danny says, they are my people. She regrets not going to Astopor. Barrison reminds her she warned Cleon,
Starting point is 00:46:09 and he was a blood-soaked. fool. Still, Danny wonders if her own hands are any cleaner. Dario's words echo in her head. All kings are butchers or meat. Dario's also kind of like really haunting the lines of these chapters. She's thinking about him constantly. She wants escapism, right? She wants him. She just wants love and to be loved, which like, is that so bad? Is that so wrong? Anyways. It's not so wrong, but yeah, I mean... It's actually romantic. heck. Dario was right.
Starting point is 00:46:42 That's all I can say. A lot of his advice last time. Good advice. De Nerees recalls Aeroa, telling them of the girl she thought she had saved, only to bring her more suffering in the end, and then how Asapur feels like 10,000 Aeroys. And they argue that she couldn't have known. And Danny says, a queen must know.
Starting point is 00:47:02 And honestly, yeah, she's right. A queen should know. I think George should sue Aeroon Because they stole her name Oh, interesting Every time I say it, I think of Aeroon But think of all the things that Arawan Has brought you, Chloe
Starting point is 00:47:15 By that I mean Lord Like seeing Lord Stoned at the Arawan Yeah Stoned at the Aeroon Is that what? I don't know Concert was so good
Starting point is 00:47:26 I don't know Are those actual lyrics No I was stoned at the Aeroon Yeah stoned at the nail salon One of the best songs ever It's such a good song Actually it makes me cry Anyways, I'll put it on the list.
Starting point is 00:47:36 I'll put it on the jewel play list for you. Don't worry. Thanks. Intimacy. I'll make you a jewel lord playlist tonight. Aeroa is haunting Danny throughout dance. It's spent for several chapters. She, just like Dario, is repeating in the margins of each chapter,
Starting point is 00:47:53 Danny does feel like she failed because of Aeroa. And it is what is bringing her anxiety about Missande, anxiety about all these people looking for help. She spins and spins. around Aeroa and her thoughts, she thinks if she cannot empower her people to not reach the same fate as Aeroa had, what kind of leader is she? And if she cannot empower herself to avoid that fate for more Aeroaes and more folks, what leader is she? It's hard because she continues to evaluate herself on the same terms of who she is and what she stands for and what she can do while also
Starting point is 00:48:28 trying to fit into the box politically of Marine, right? And being a leader they will accept. Instead of making them accept her. And of course, bringing Aeroa in repeatedly throughout these chapters really helps sow those seeds for Danny Ten, right? Where she's standing in the grasses, thinking of Calpono, Calhaco, and then Mago
Starting point is 00:48:48 raping and murdering Aeroa. A great thread that George has sown through for her to finally tell Drogon to use Flamethrower. Firewheel. Fire skin. Fire blast. Yeah. Solar beam?
Starting point is 00:49:02 No, that's grass type. But can't he do bad anyways? Which one? I'm pretty sure most people can learn solar beam. People? Most Pokemon. We don't even need Pokemon enough. We're going to do solar beam ourselves.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Yeah. You can use that, I feel like. Me? Personally? No, maybe not. I don't know. You should know this. A lot of, I mean, a lot of Pokemon can, like, learn solar beam.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Most can. Yeah. Yeah, he can. But it's not fire. It's literally grass type. Yeah, but like soaking up the sun. Okay, Cheryl, girl. Soaking up.
Starting point is 00:49:36 I'm not going to be. There's one wall. And it thinks of Cheryl Crow. And it's gosh. I'm a Sheryl Crow girl. My dad calls her Scarecrow. Oh, that's funny. I'm not, but.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Oh, I like. I'll listen to a little scarecrow. Yeah. You know what my song is, one of my songs at karaoke? If it makes you happy. Oh, I didn't realize that was her. Nice. Yeah, bro.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Yeah. Anyways, yeah, Arrowway. Stoned at the Airway. Oh my god. Very sad. Oh, my God. Yes. The way that you like phrased all this, maybe think of, you know, there's all these people that Denaries are thinking of. And granted, like, two out of three of them are alive. But as time goes, maybe more, less of them will be. And it makes me think of, you know, high in the halls of the kings who are gone. Jenny would dance with her ghosts. And like, there are so many ghosts haunting Denarius right now. And especially, I guess, at the end of this book. Though again, Jora is alive, unfortunately. Anyways, Resnock pleads with her to marry Hazdar for peace, which I'm like, that was a little suspicious of you, Resnock. But anyways, she calls Quaite's cryptic warning,
Starting point is 00:50:49 beware the perfumed seneschal, and once more of wonders, if Reznoch was the one she was meant to fear, we have a line of, I may be a young girl, innocent of war, but I'm not a lamb to walk, bleating into the Harpies' den. I still have my insullied
Starting point is 00:51:04 I have the storm crows and I have the second sons I have three companies of freedmen I guess that kind of is interesting in the context of them being like well I guess we can work with the Lazarine and the Lambet slash the Lamb Men but like what can they really do for us and also we can consider
Starting point is 00:51:21 the lineage the roots of the Valerians as once having been shepherds Ben says well you got dragons too by the way you didn't include that in your itinerary there. But Reznoch says, well, they're chained, and though they would strike fear in the hearts of everyone else. Ben is amused, though, and calls them, uh, they're just Danny's little pets then. And Resnock is like, there are monsters that feed on children. And Danny's like, shut up. Not everyone needs to know. And, which is what Chloe said about me telling you all about the train. That was my fault. Ben, break. down the Yonkish and the free companies moving against her, and the youngish men went to
Starting point is 00:52:06 Valantis to fetch the Golden Company, it seems. 10,000 men. Hmm. Yeah. Also, they're getting stronger. The Harpies people are getting stronger despite the peace. Have you noticed? Like, there's a piece, but somehow the harpy is strong.
Starting point is 00:52:24 Yeah. Have you considered that? Perhaps. Why is that? Why is the harpy getting stronger despite the peace happening? Has anyone figured it out? Because we decided to placate the KKK. I mean, that's literally what he's likening it to.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Yeah, that is. That's like literally the analogy. They have Giscari Legions and may be sent for Dothraki riders across the sea to bring a colistar down on them. And Ben says, they need the dragons. And Deniri says, we cannot loose them. And I'm like, as I said earlier, the dragons aren't necessary, right? Like, the violence of the slavers and those who reinforce that violence system will only yield to a greater force. And, you know, I'm not out here advocating political violence, right?
Starting point is 00:53:03 But that is kind of what is necessary to stop that system. And it is a reconstruction era lesson because literally, I mean, it literally is meant to be that. He tells her they should leave before the Yunkish close the trap. But first, they should make the slavers pay to see them leave. Once more, trying to get Danny to leave. He says, they pay the cows to leave their cities be. why not us sell marine back to him and start west with dragons full of gold and gems and such but danny refuses to flee she asks greyworm if his freedmen are ready and he says they will not shame her she surveys her counsel shave paint scowling barrister and sombre resinac pell and sweating look that's just how he looks like that's not very fair uh ben grizzled and steady greyworm calm unreadable and then she misses dario and even jora a little little. Do you think Rosnock's sick? Is Rosnock sick? That's, that's it. I'm just saying, I'm just
Starting point is 00:54:06 saying. Do you think he's poisoned? Like, he's being poisoned? Oh, no, I meant, like, and granted he wouldn't have lasted as long as he does in the rest of the book. Oh, like, pale mare. Yeah, but, or he, I don't know, he could have something else, but I'm just, like, sounds bad, sounds unwell for him. Yeah. Well, I was just thinking of it as, like, a parallel to what's nuts poisoned at the end with Taman. Oh, yeah, I, I thought you were referencing, like, John Aaron or something, like, who was slowly poisoned. No, no, no, no, no. Well, but I was thinking, like, is fucking, you know, especially because poison comes up.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Yeah. The woman's weapon comes back. Someone brought that up. Was it, was it Warren in, like, some of the comments that we had? And I will say, almost every time we've seen poison used, though, with the exception of Aria, it's not used by a woman. Like, it's kind of done through a woman, but it's not a woman, you know? Boros Blount, Boros Blount, that's what I meant. Boros Blount being poisoned potentially.
Starting point is 00:55:03 Oh, right? Yeah, which probably would have been. That's what I was thinking. Like, maybe he's being slowly poisoned, which means, yeah. Oh, yeah, no, I think so. It's a thought. Yeah, yeah. So maybe, I don't know, like, who's poised?
Starting point is 00:55:14 Is it Scahas? Is it his dar? Who's poisoning, res not? Could be. Everyone's getting poison in this book, bro. Yeah. I mean, even De Neres is, but not by the locus, by the river that she's drinking out of, the dysentery river.
Starting point is 00:55:26 Mm. Lose six days. Ben's betrayal is so clear on reread, right? And she doesn't see it. It's actually really sad because she's relieved when he comes back. She sees him as this old, sweet, grizzled man that's on her side. She's relieved. Her loneliness and isolation is starting to really show, right?
Starting point is 00:55:49 Like the relief she feels when certain people come back, that's what makes it so easy for him to betray her. He convinces her to give him jewels and hands him on over. He inflates the numbers out there of the Yunkish and what she needs to do. I mean, gonna be honest, Grolio's right. Take the dragons out, baby. Once for gold, maybe this is the once for gold. This is the first betrayal that I'm willing to say this could be it.
Starting point is 00:56:15 Especially because she won't really know the betrayal in full until she goes to Westeros and maybe has to face him, right? Yeah. Gold, golden company, et cetera. I don't know. I'm willing to bet on this one. I'm willing. This is the first one that I'm like, yeah, could be about.
Starting point is 00:56:29 betrayal, bro. This could be one of the betrayals. This is the first time I felt like it could be. This one kind of aligns. And especially because there's potential that they are of relation, right? A little drop of dragon blood. There is something close about him to her. It makes that betrayal that much worse. There's also that great through line of Ben bringing up the calisar and that it's growing. Again, as we get to the end of the book, you have to bring them back up, the growing calisar, reintroducing the threat she must topple from the very first book, especially after she finds the dragon
Starting point is 00:57:03 within, and she unleashes the dean. Wow. Come guest on the podcast. The strap? Oh. Strap? No. Yeah. I could see it being Ben, especially because I do think, like, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:57:19 one of my, I don't think it's that controversial, but it could be controversial, so I'm going to put the term in there. He could end up with a dragon for just a little bit before he dies. So, it's interesting. Tim. Also, her saying, Jora always gave good counsel. And I'm like, I mean, did he? Questions I have. She declares she's beaten the Yonkai once and we'll do it again. Shocking the shave-pate. Bereson says the slavers are poor soldiers and you could surprise them, but
Starting point is 00:57:48 shave paid warns that the slavers have allies inside Marine. I'm like, I don't know, something about, he doth protest a bit too much here. Maybe he's just really worried about Marine, but I'm also like, I don't know, go let her fucking, like, beat them with her dragons. All of you just stay here, but then again, she'd have to bring out the dragons, so whatever. Danny asks about their strength, that Ben says it's not enough. She mentions that Dario is still out in the field and figures like, oh, my God, did I send him to his death? She's like, now we're never going to fuck.
Starting point is 00:58:12 Um, she tells Ben, she'll need his men. I just learned about my G-spot. Oh, my God. I know, right? I just learned about orgasm, orgasms. Um. Dineries tells Ben that she'll need his men for scouting and promise. as the supplies. He suggests that they might
Starting point is 00:58:28 bribe the enemy captains. And Danny agrees and puts Reznoch in charge of gold giving. Despite warnings about the plague, Danny insists that they will not abandon Assephor's children. She orders a camp built outside the walls to send any of the leftover food and separate the sick.
Starting point is 00:58:44 And I will say only sending them what food they can isn't enough because like obviously like half measures are kind of what would allow the illness to incubate more and spread. But They are running thin, literally, but I am also like, what if you sent more food? I don't know. It's hard. It's hard. I don't know how to fucking solve dysentery.
Starting point is 00:59:06 I'm not a doctor. I literally, like, am incapable. I would faint. So. Really, she should be having her hubby-to-be go get rations from the pyramids. Wait. Yeah, she should have asked for more. I've been like, hey, what if we opened up trade for 90 days too? Fuck, bro. Something. I don't know. Make men work for it. Hindsight. Anyways. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:29 Like, this is different. This is like dragon queen pussy. It's not just like regular pussy. I'm so sick of him. Commanding them to act, she withdraws to her terrace seeking solitude under the darkening sky. And we have, going back to Eliana's nursery rhymes. Brick in blood built Astipore and brick in blood its people. The old rhyme rang in her head.
Starting point is 00:59:55 Ash and bone is Astapur and Ash and Bone it's people. She tried to recall Arroway's face, but the dead girl's features kept turning into smoke. Hasea, Arrowway, the guilt, the guilt, the guilt, it rises. And, of course, the bricks and blood built Astopor and bricks and blood. Her people are the red bricks, right, gaining their color from the blood of the slaves who made them, which, funnily enough, is not unlike the other red building
Starting point is 01:00:23 that she wishes to rule from in Westeros. Actually true, yeah. King's fucking landing. It's going to be a dual performance. And you start to really think about Astipur how it survived, the destruction of Old Geese, right? Old Geese was destroyed by the Valerian freehold, but Astopor was conquered by the Valerians.
Starting point is 01:00:47 They use slavery to expand their empire. And that's why the Gascari Tom. and the Giscari gods aren't really prominent, right? We talked about the Giscari gods and wondering more about them recently. Well, because they were conquered and their religion was taken from them in many ways because those practicing were enslaved and then many of them murdered. So it's interesting because it's full circle, right? Why do you think ash and bone were its people, Danny?
Starting point is 01:01:17 Because of your blood, your ancestry. And no, you can't control your ancestors, but... Yeah. You should know, no, no the histories. No the histories, dragons, baby. Dragons. And I wonder if that'll, like, hit better and hit more, at least, with, like, Volantis. But anyways.
Starting point is 01:01:34 Yeah. I imagine so. I think, like, yeah, it's a little clumsily done that that line's, like, not threaded here. But anyways, when Denarius turns away from the terrorists, Barriston stands near, and she asks if they can make a fight at this. And he says, men can always fight? But can they win? He says dying is easy, but victory comes hard.
Starting point is 01:01:54 Her freedmen are half trained. Her cell swords aren't loyal to her and may turn their cloaks. She has two dragons who can't be controlled and a third that's like, I don't know, gallivanting, same as us. Her freedmen are half trained, her cell swords aren't loyal to her and may turn their cloaks. She has two dragons who can't be controlled and a third that's in the wind. Her only friends are the Lazarine who do not fight famously. Yeah, the lamb people who are constantly getting their... They're shit rocked.
Starting point is 01:02:22 Great allies. Real catnice energy, by the way. That's so catniss of her. Which part of being like... Choosing the lamb people as allies. That's my ally. I don't even know she chose. I think she would choose other people too.
Starting point is 01:02:34 It's just they're the only ones really gas. Sure, fine. Yeah. I also love that line. Dying is easy, but victory comes harder. George quoted Lynn Manuel Miranda here. Dying as easy, young man living is harder. Oh, my God, he did.
Starting point is 01:02:48 Oh, wow. I can't believe he adapted this from Ham. He got in the weirdwood, saw it. Danny is not throwing away her shot. She is burning down all the slavers. Yeah. Well, not right now, but hopefully later. Things are looking very bad for the Queen of Marine in the last quarter,
Starting point is 01:03:07 just like the Eagles versus the Giants last night, or the Phillies versus the Dodgers in the 11th inning. I don't want to talk about it. Anyways. I'm ready to talk about it. I will say, yeah, I, I do. didn't know that the Eagles continued to be on that track after. To ruin my day, thanks. Yeah. I had a really fucking fun night, Eliana.
Starting point is 01:03:30 We were feeling hopeful, you guys, like, I guess last episode. And it didn't pan out for us. For the Phillies, it panned out. It's time to have the talk that, like, you know what? The kids need to know that what happened last year for the Eagles is not normal. They've won quite a lot, though. They don't, like, win all the time. But they're, like, considered, they're a good team. They're a good team. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:53 What happened for you last night, I'm sorry. Tragedy. I was, I was, like, stressed, though, for me, not for you. I was stressed. I was stressed. Yeah, after that eight-pointer the day before. Yeah, dude, we love our hero. That was nuts.
Starting point is 01:04:06 I did feel bad. I did feel bad for Lizardo. I, like, he did a hell of a job in those, like, last few innings. And so it's kind of, like, so kind of embarrassing that, I guess you missed that last one. like because he didn't notice the ball hit him on the foot and then he was like oh fuck it's right there i did feel kind of bad for him does fucking suck but that's life i guess he pitched a good game um anyways so barrisen is counseling danny and don't get him started on the politics in the city because he can't he can't he just can't they can't stand to lose a siege he tells her he's like
Starting point is 01:04:43 let me meet the foe on a ground of my choosing with my half trained men oh good he says the unsullied could help stiffen them if he had 500 nights. She gives him the, if she gives him the unsullied, then she only has brazen beasts left to protect the city. And are they loyal? She doesn't know. No one knows and there's only one way to find out, which is literally doing this. And it could be terrible. Could be bad. Could be bad. It could be bad. It's a pretty big gamble. I think there's something really great about Barriston here, like being very honest about his skills. And he's like, I'm not going to talk to you about the politics. I can't do that shit.
Starting point is 01:05:20 But what I can tell you is about, you know, I'm a soldier. Yeah. This is what I can do. Play me to my strength. Just like we start the chapter with Grolio being like, that's not my job, girl. Embarrassed in here. And he's like, that's also not my job, but here is my job. And it's curious because he doesn't really believe in himself, I feel like, like even in his own chapters.
Starting point is 01:05:40 But he's often giving her really good counsel, like the best counsel giver she's got, like one of the best advisors. He may not be able to strategize on the political stuff as much, which we see him, you know, do a lot more doubting himself and fumbling in his own chapters, but his advice to her is still pretty spot on. Yeah. I mean, she's definitely just lacking on that side in terms of having advisors who can cover that, which was difficult and why, you know, again, cannot wait for the Tyrion, Denarius. It's not a reunion, just union, but not like that. Yeah, the hook up. I'm hyped. It's going to be so good.
Starting point is 01:06:16 It's so good. And the, the dialogue. The themes. Oh, my God. The themes, the dialogue. Unleash the monster motherfucker. Let's do it. Burn it down.
Starting point is 01:06:27 And the T is Tyrion. Unleash the T and D. Whoa. T and D. Oh, because she's D. Yeah. T and D. And though in the fight.
Starting point is 01:06:38 T and D, they're a power alone. T and D. Dragon fire explode. You all don't know this Just because it's a podcast And the medium doesn't allow you to know But I'm out here jamming I'm head banging along to Chloe's musical renditions
Starting point is 01:07:01 She's laughing at a joy Honestly, we're really, when it comes to our music We're so diverse, you know We're all over the place this episode We're supportive And that's We even like the Aussies right now, you know This is, yeah
Starting point is 01:07:14 That's the song of Ice and Fire for all of you. Oh, my God. So. All right. The end of the chapter. Cast us. The chapter.
Starting point is 01:07:23 God, she prayed. You took Caldrogo, who is my son in stars. You took our valiant son before he drew a breath. You have had your blood of me. Help me now, I pray you. Give me the wisdom to see the path ahead and the strength to do what I must to keep my children safe. The gods did not respond.
Starting point is 01:07:41 When she opened her eyes again, De Neres said, I cannot fight two enemies. one within and one without If I am to hold Marine I must have the city behind me The whole city I need I need
Starting point is 01:07:54 She could not say it Your grace Sir Barriston prompted gently A queen belongs Not to herself But to her people I need his Darzalorak Amazing job Chloe
Starting point is 01:08:07 Bafta for you Well done Thank you You got You got Eliana You did great too You're always great
Starting point is 01:08:13 You got That's what it stands for Eliana Game of Thrones Awards We should start doing those in January superlatives, the Eliana Game of Thrones Awards Those could be interesting, like back We still do them But like I just have
Starting point is 01:08:27 Don't Monde anymore But the R-Assoff best loves Wait, did you get one? Oh yeah, the best of us Did you ever get a superlative in school? No, I was a runner up for one What was your runner up for? What was your runner up for?
Starting point is 01:08:39 Oh So I realized now reading this, this is kind of interesting and fun. In contrast to how we always talk about the other women having their, I want, I want that's unfinished in those, in their
Starting point is 01:08:56 chapters. And this one isn't about I want, this one's I need. And it's something that clearly she doesn't fucking want and it's unfortunately like the things that you need are, I guess there's an irony there, right? What she needs is not clearly what she needs. And like for a lot of the other women, with the exception of
Starting point is 01:09:11 Ceres who's like, I want to kill kids. But, like, a lot of them, the things that they want are perhaps things that they would thrive had they had. So, like, I love that we have this here and that it does get finished, right? That she says what she needs. But we don't really have the I want statement yet from her. Right. Like, she's grown. Like, I want was a girl's statement for Danny when she had her own I want.
Starting point is 01:09:35 And now she's given that up. Is an I want statement a womanly thing, right? the unfinished I want of all the things that you have not been able to grasp that have been taken from you. Because you've always done the I need, right? Catalan, Circe, I need, I need. And you never have access to the I want. Damn. You've never had time to want.
Starting point is 01:10:01 You've never been able to. This is the first time you've ever even thought about gasping out loud. Yeah. Yeah. Devastating. Wow. I'm very excited to see what. What happens with this girl, you know, this Denari's girl in the next few chapters?
Starting point is 01:10:15 We're tragically getting so far. This is the halfway dance point. We have danced halfway through. I really do feel like we're seeing her art. Reading it this way is very eye-opening. I mean, it's stuff that I knew, but stuff that maybe didn't always hit as hard and just understanding, like, where she is at the very beginning, where she is in the middle stuck with this going on and everything horrible surrounding her.
Starting point is 01:10:41 And then leaving and Danny Ten and waking the dragon. It's incredible because it really tells you where she's going to be mindset-wise and action-wise at the opening of Tiwau. Not necessarily where, location-wise, we'll find out, but it does show you how she's going to be. Yeah. And also, I realized just now, like the, I kind of wish that we had access somewhere to, like,
Starting point is 01:11:05 those scrapped drafts of dance, because again, they would have opened with Dosnox Pit. those were like gone. Those are like wiped because it would have told us more about where her story was going there. Way too much. Yeah, that's interesting to think about. I had not considered that. You needed the slow bill.
Starting point is 01:11:21 Yeah, it's much further along in that timeline than maybe like some other versions. Hmm. Huh. Yeah, that is really interesting to compare because like I look at this as like the 10 chapter arc now. Yeah. And having Desnax Pit way at the end is perfect because it like, it's the ultimate thing she was never willing to cave on this whole time. Right? She's rejected it.
Starting point is 01:11:40 She's rejected it. She's rejected it. And here we are, Danny 5, and she's finally caved to marry Hizdar. She says, I get it. I have to do it. And then the concessions continue until Danny 10 when she finally can go out on her own and shit a little. Yeah. It's her version of John being like, we're going to march on Winterfell.
Starting point is 01:11:59 I think we best change the plan. Yeah. But it breaks out all right for her because then she gets a dragon. I mean, probably not for the city. No, but that does definitely help, like, not get stabbed to death. this book. A dragon, for sure. I do think, yeah, I guess like people were trying to poison her with the locus. I do think, like, honestly, yeah, if she had been able to use the dragons, I think she could have had both. Like, she could have made it to Astapur and saved them
Starting point is 01:12:25 and left the unsullied there to protect the city. Like, I do think it could have worked, but. Yeah. And the sadder part, too, like, knowing a little bit of what we know from fire and blood and seeing a little bit of, like, being in tune to your dragons. Her shutting off her dragon and shutting off her connection. I mean, even what we've seen with the wolves, right? Shutting down your connection, like, she could be encouraging that connection, right? She might, if she had been encouraging that connection and, like, thriving with her dragons, she might be able to be like, hey, Vasarian, get up in that fucking sky and watch the city.
Starting point is 01:13:02 Mommy will be right back. Yeah. Or also, like, I don't know. metaphor for everyone be open to yourself and your dragon. Yeah. Unleash your D. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, actually, though,
Starting point is 01:13:17 unleash, I mean, now it's gonna be Unleash the D for Unleash the Dunk. Not Unleash the Dragon. But it could also be Unleash the Dragon a little too. Dunk on them, motherfuckers, you could say. Ball in. A dunk a dunk. Well, we'll be back with Danny Six, where we find out if Danny knows Ball. not Quentin Ball
