Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello, and welcome to Girls Gone Canon reads A Song of Ice and Fire, episode 270, Denaries 8 in A Dance with Dragons. I'm one of your hosts, Chloe. And I'm another one of your hosts, Eliana. You might be wondering what happened to us last week. And the way that perhaps we're all wondering what happened to Denaries, you know, and not us, because we know. We have chapter 10. But many of the other people there and Marine don't know.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Maybe you're like them. You're like, where'd they go? That sure was close to something. And I love that about you, Eliana. Thanks. I really love that. Yeah, life happened to us, dude. It was nuts.
Starting point is 00:00:55 It actually was not. It was nuts. It was crazy. I'm sorry, y'all. I thought I was going to be able to put out of. a minisode, but no, life happened. But I have a different thing about life that I'm going to tell all of you, and I'm going to impart you with some wisdom. Oh, shit. So part of the things that happened for life, you know, I really hope, I hope my friend never listens to this
Starting point is 00:01:13 episode. She has listened to some of our earlier ones in the past, though, and I think we're like way better. We're a different five. Thankfully, none of our friends listen to our podcast, so. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. And also a lot, actually a lot of our friends do listen but many of the other people in my other parts of my life do not and yeah she listened to the beginning ones but she didn't keep up thankfully yeah what does that say so yeah she's been having a lot of issues and one of them involves a man but it's not really about him and it's it's like other things that compounded and the man just is a symptom of it but like she's like kind of wondering what's gonna you know why isn't he texting and all these other things and
Starting point is 00:02:00 like the answer is he sucks and yeah not to diagnose on our podcast but may or may not be a narcissist I don't know but I hope he listens to this podcast yeah anyways so I told her you know like even if he said he was going to text today and if he doesn't I just like gave her like Corrin Halfhand in a Clash of Kings, right? Like advice, because I was like, look, if he texts you or doesn't text you, that gives you a little more information
Starting point is 00:02:34 and you know more about him than you did before, and that tells you what you need to know moving forward. Yeah. And how to react. And I was like, well, wow, this was like really good life advice from Corrin Halfhand. When you told me it was Corrin, I was like, what are you going to
Starting point is 00:02:50 tell her to lead men, you must know them? I mean, it's not dissimilar from what I just said, I think. I think it kind of said a similar thing. We can only die. Why else do we don't these black cloaks but to die in defense? I'm really glad what you told her. I think that was a much better quote than what I just read. I don't think, I mean, that's not the exact quote, but that's like the subtext, you know, of what Corrin said.
Starting point is 00:03:14 That's the lesson to take from it. That's his entire thing. Yeah. That is poor in halfhand. Yeah. And so that's what I'm giving all of you today. Dear listener, because we were to your last week, I'm giving you life advice of, you know, people, they're going to act the way that they do. You put it out there, right?
Starting point is 00:03:32 I did not command it. I told you to do what needed to be done and left you to decide what it would be. And that's how you should approach people in your life. It'll, like, free you a little, and then you'll know what kind of person someone is and how to react. Yeah. that's the song that's the song of ice and fire Chloe doesn't know and respond her face went through a couple different reactions you can't see it I'm very grateful that you shared this tidbit of your personal
Starting point is 00:04:09 life with us thank you Eliana I hope everything goes better for your friend and that she realizes man ain't shit oh yeah yes that a scrub is a guy who thinks he's fly or that anyways that's a buster maybe there's some core and half-hand in this episode maybe there's not you're going to have to keep listening to hear how that could relate indeed if you're looking for the time of your life this month boy are we going to have it for you what is it going to be a bonus episode for patrons in the stranger tier and above the annual episode that that you have all been waiting for.

Starting point is 00:05:34 and a half hour episodes of us talking about stuff. Maybe even life advice. Maybe. Like what you all just got at the beginning of this episode. Honestly, we get pretty intimate there.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Sometimes you get ASMR too. I don't like that. Should I give them a treat? You don't like when I do it. No, stop. I have to listen. No, I don't know what noise that is. Ugh.
Starting point is 00:05:59 No. I have to listen to this again. We're doing ASMR. Sometimes I do ASMR. It's a new thing and honestly I do it because she doesn't like it. I have friends who call it asthma and I don't like that they call it that either. I don't like that either. They're not doing it ironically.
Starting point is 00:06:18 They're doing it in earnest, which I think is. why I like it even less. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. No, we hate earnest. Especially when it's earnest from Death Becomes Her. I saw that on Broadway recently.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Death Becomes Her. Really have to recommend it, everyone. There's an earnest in that, and we do not respect him. Okay. We do not respect him. We do not respect Ernest from Death becomes her. Tell me, Ernest. What about Brapia hour this November, Eliaba?
Starting point is 00:06:49 We've got to pack November except for the part where we missed last week But again, you've got a life-losting out of it And so that's going to be on November 23rd Switching things up From 2 to 4 p.m. E.T. And yes, it truly will be E.T. this time. Eliana time.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Oh, yeah, that's on our Discord where, yeah, we all join, we hang out on the Vigja And, um... How do you get there, you know, Eliana? Like, would I be able to go? Well, yeah. But if I was not me, would I be able to go? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:24 I don't know if you would be able to go if you were not you. But if you are not Chloe, but you also don't suck. What? What? If you were not you, what if you suck? No, I respect it. I respect it. What if you suck?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Then you could not come. Negamie. Negat the listeners. Yeah, if you don't suck, you can find us on the Discord. That's available for patrons in the Thunder Tier and above. That's $10 and up. You access it via the Patreon. And, yeah, there's also a bunch of other fun stuff there, too,
Starting point is 00:08:00 such as many channels and hijinks. Oh, my God, the hijinks. And we have, like, a really nice letterboxed feed when you join them to find the letterboxed feed. You were so excited about that. It is nice. Do you ever look at it? I don't know. I'm afraid I'm going to be spoiled for the movie.
Starting point is 00:08:19 that I may or may not watch one day. I've never seen a single movie. We see what people are watching. I'm afraid. I'm afraid. It'll influence me. What? How can I be a strong independent thinker?
Starting point is 00:08:34 If I see everyone's letterbox, I'll be so swayed. Everyone will be so persuasive. Join us, Aliana. Join us. Join us. Join us. Join us. Come and waste an hour or two.
Starting point is 00:08:49 We got magic to do Just for you We got memorable plays to play Nah, nah, nah, nah, no I don't remember the rest of lyrics Over on Discord If you are a patron in the Thundertier and above But now
Starting point is 00:09:06 The moment that you've all been waiting for What's that? We're going to briefly discuss Each chapter you missed between Dineries 7 in a Dance with Dragons And De Norees 8 in a dance with dragons, starting with John 9, where John cuts a deal with the Iron Bank. The Blind Girl.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Aria successfully graduates from being magically slash chemically blinded. Talk about dark academia. Oh, my God. She freestyled that one. Thanks, guys. A ghost in Winterfell. I guess I have to freestyle this one, too, apparently. Commitst mystery murders,
Starting point is 00:09:51 Fionn is pulled in for a conspiracy. Nice. Thank you. That was really hard. Tyrion, Tan. Tyrion, Penny, and Jora are sold to Yezin, and then get told to prepare for a show. Jamie won. Jamie lifts the siege at Raventree, taking a hostage, a hostage, if you will,
Starting point is 00:10:15 and seeing his old flame, Brienne along the way who has found Sansa Stark Dun dun dun dun Allegedly Allegedly Oh unruly
Starting point is 00:10:29 John 10 You're invited to Allison Sigourne's wedding It's arguably The Superior A Doa Wedding Yeah That's actually like
Starting point is 00:10:41 Wait you should say a Doa Doa Wedding A Doa Wedding It's good right It feels good It feels good That was kind of fun. I'm kind of into that.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Oh my gosh. Well, that brings us to this wedding. This wedding sucks. It's full of slavers, hypocrites, and Danny ends up feeling powerless for most of it. And then, of course, it ends with her embracing her dragons and warning Quentin of what's to come. We open the chapter. Oh, my God. We open the chapter with youngish laughter, songs, prayers, all ringing through the hall.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Dancers are spinning, while musicians play queer tunes of bells and squeaks. Wine flows, rich vintages from the arbor, question mark, how'd that get here, and dream wine from Carth. The young Kai had come at King Hizdar's invite to sign the piece and witness the reopening of Marines' fighting pits. Hizdar had opened the Great Pyramid to honor them. What this all means, we will unpack as we go. Danny thinks that she hates this. How did I come to feast with men that I'd rather flay? Not the first wedding in this story that we think of the flayed man at.
Starting point is 00:11:57 True. True. True. Pretty recently with Aria, quote unquote, quote unquote. Allegedly. Allegedly. That's like my line. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:12:09 I love it. Also, Danny associating herself with like those that flay, they who flay, they who flay Flay is an interesting concept, because we don't really think about her as that kind of person, unless they're bad people, like slavers. Yeah, it's kind of interesting, too. This is a wedding that is being orchestrated while devastating things are happening below the surface, right? And folks are pretending they aren't happening in broad daylight. Like, no, they're not slaughtering all the guests, like the Red Wedding,
Starting point is 00:12:45 or like what Danny thought about and Dario kind of implied to her a little bit ago, but right beneath her nose, because she's not busy slaying all these people at the wedding, they are carding in and out slaves and selling these people. All under the geese of a wedding, right? Right beneath her nose, right beneath everything she stands for. Not good.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Not good. Things are bad. Good call, though, on how it is very close by to the Bolton Wedding but also yeah, that's right I don't know, like not saying red wedding is good but also not saying that
Starting point is 00:13:24 Dario didn't have a point as we discussed during that time also the way that Deneeres feels here kind of makes me think like this might have been how like Robert probably felt after he was crowned king
Starting point is 00:13:40 he's like oh my god I'm just here with a bunch of people that I hear hate that I'd rather like a flay like probably in regards to the Lannisters but like a bunch of other people too I kind of think it's possible that Aries felt this way about a bunch of people as well
Starting point is 00:13:54 in terms of having to feast with them I think any ruler would right that's kind of the price of responsibility and power and again not saying Deneas is like Ares but I am it's just funny because I'm like yeah I feel like Aries thought this but he was like what if I gave into those urges
Starting point is 00:14:10 No I love what you've pointed out here because I think there's a lot of this throughout the chapter focusing on maybe some of the Wastrosi rulers and what this looked like for them while they were ruling and what their lineup looks like and also why some of these very
Starting point is 00:14:26 mediocre rulers last as long as they do seems to come up right? And why Danny is having such a fucking uphill battle it seems pretty prominent in this chapter. Yeah, she's having a bad time and
Starting point is 00:14:42 I guess I had two weddings. I had two weddings and they rocked. Yeah, I'm going on this coming weekend, too. And I expected to rock. What? My next wedding? No, I'm just kidding. I mean, like, we did float you having another one.
Starting point is 00:14:57 To the same person. I just want you all to know, like, we're not floating like a new spouse. No, just another wedding. Yeah. A dozen meats are served at this wedding, and I'm excited about this. We have camel, crocodile, squid, ducks, grubs, goat, horse, and dog
Starting point is 00:15:21 because, well, no Giscari feast is complete without dog, and in parentheses I want you to know, I wrote out Locust in my note. Spices fill the air. Very pertinent because it's all coming. Like, after this chapter, we actually have to go back and reread Quentin and Barristan. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Actually, maybe. I don't know. Yeah, like, maybe. We might flirt with it. Spices fill. a little bit air, but Danny scarcely eats. This is peace, she tells herself, yet it tastes of defeat. Yeah, as people pointed out over the years, I mean, it isn't really peace, right? Like, everything that's going on, that is a violence that's going on underneath her nose. And, yeah, it is defeat.
Starting point is 00:16:04 You have been, this is defeat to D'Daris, and I'm going to switch gears entirely because this is a food podcast and I don't know how a camel tastes but I'm here for it I've heard about people like consuming camel and I've tried camel's milk I wasn't it was a little too too much for me I don't think I
Starting point is 00:16:24 didn't love it but I am here for like most of these like I don't know I think they said they had singing squid unless it's a different squid like I feel as though squid is just like a very normal dish to have maybe crocodile I haven't had crocodile, but I've had alligator. I assume you've had alligator, Chloe. You strike
Starting point is 00:16:44 me as long as that alligator. I've had both. I assume they taste similar. It probably all just tastes like chicken, though. Yeah, they're like gamey and lean and chickeny. You know, like a little bit chickeny, but very lean. They're like flaky or chicken. And that saves it from being too gamey. Yeah. Yeah, it dries very easy. I've had jerky. There's a really great jerky place on 127 north in Michigan, or maybe it's on south. Because there's a lot of alligators there. Yeah. What, um, huh? No? No.
Starting point is 00:17:13 That is fake news. Do you not listen to her? What the fuck? I'm just spreading misinformation. Hey, that's me. Oh, I bet you are spreading me. Whoa. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:17:28 The third word. Sorry, that came up. Oh, my God. The dragon is after, yes. So, yeah, because like, turns out they've just, some people in the scientific of a community. This is actually not made up. Have decided that birds are warm reptiles. So that makes sense for them all to kind of taste
Starting point is 00:17:45 similar as chicken. I think the duck, duck is a very normal food to have had. I don't know. They're all like for the last adventures, they'd like goat, horse, and I don't know. I guess, yeah, with the dog, but I'm also like, I don't know, duck seems like a very normal dish to have had across many cultures.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Goat, also in my opinion, like, quite normal in many cultures. Arguably, in my opinion, and delicious. It's kind of just like also not gamey, but like a, it's similar to lamb. It's got a similar in my opinion, like taste in some aspects
Starting point is 00:18:18 to lamb, not exactly. And also regarding horse, I mean, like, whomst amongst us has not eaten horse at IKEA, I say. Let, let he was not accidentally a horse at IKEA cast the first stone.
Starting point is 00:18:33 Huh. Questions, comments, and concerns on that one, But glossing over that. Yeah, Camel, I have not had, but I've heard it's kind of, like, got that gamey taste to it, kind of like lamb or beef, but it's a little sweet. Okay. So I could see it being good, like, in a ragu. But because it kind of plays with those flavors and balances it, because, again, we're a food podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:53 But I because I like that about, like, lamb, it's kind of gamey or, like, bison or venison, like, balancing it with different flavors because of that taste. But also, it's, like, I really like what George is doing here in some ways because it's, like, relativity to location, right? And this is something that I feel with food. Like, you're going to eat what's around you first and foremost. Yes, you'll import things. But, like, for some people, crocodile is their bird, right? Like, that's, I mean, you look at, like, it's the same as, like, the reeds getting made fun of for eating frogs, right? Like, frogs are, like, their local food. That's just what's there. They're also, exactly. So, like, to me, I'm like, this is kind of,
Starting point is 00:19:36 of a family of food that human eat. Yeah. If that makes sense. Like, I feel like this is very, like, I would never judge anyone, obviously, on eating one of these things as their normal thing. If that's what you have around you, that's what you eat, man. Like me, LeCroix just grows on the ground in my house. It does.
Starting point is 00:19:54 And, like, also at the same time, you know, if you're hungry and you're desperate, for the most part, you eat what's there, right? Like, doesn't surprise me. I mean, Dineries just had her last culture shock right with horse. where they ate horse a lot, because that is what they had around them in surplus was horse. Yeah. So, I don't know. Plus, I mean, we talk about cannibalism a lot in this podcast.
Starting point is 00:20:17 So, like, all these things, I'm like, these are all relatively tame compared to that. And then- To, like, eating each other, yeah. Yeah, Dario says that, you know, the Gascari, they don't eat dragon or human. They eat everything with dragon and human, but they would probably eat dragon if given the chance. And I'm like, you know what? Sure. I fucking would, too.
Starting point is 00:20:34 And also, I bet it tastes like chicken also. Yeah. Right? It's obviously a reptile. Similar. Similar class. I think so. They're just big chickens. Just like us for real.
Starting point is 00:20:45 You're such a freak. I love you. I think that's normal. Like, would you not? Like, would you not? Have we discussed this before? I feel like we've probably discussed it before. But I'm just saying.
Starting point is 00:20:57 What haven't we discussed? I don't know. What haven't we discussed? Like, at this point. Who knows? Readers, write in. What do you want to hear? or that we really haven't hit yet in, what, 300 times?
Starting point is 00:21:08 Let's just say, like, 900, 1,000 hours of, anyways. I feel like there's a couple of things, and that, you know, I know we've gotten requests for certain kinds of specific, like, Patreon episodes, and some of it's just, some of it, it just seems like so much work. And some of it, some of it. It's all coming. I'm like, other people have done this way better than I could. So you just go listen to them talk about it.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Like, you don't, you legitimately do not want to hear me talk about it. You want to hear them. talk about it. Yeah. And that's why we're bringing you Gossip Girls Gone Canon this month. Anyway. Yeah. They wanted this.
Starting point is 00:21:42 They told me. I heard it. Like Missonde hearing. Oh, my God. So, Hizdar tries to sue Danny. And he's like, listen, the young guy will leave soon. They're going to leave peace and food and trade behind. And Danny's like, yeah, but their warships are literally in the port.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Like, I can look out of my window and see them. It's mocking me. And he's like, no, no, it's just posturing. It's just posturing. They'll turn it all into a fruit market when they leave. Like, trust me on this. And despite, of course, Danny's complaints that, like, we're looking outside and there's a slave market being set up in full view of my home. Like, that's insulting, man.
Starting point is 00:22:24 But Danny also knows and says, riders are approaching. The Dothraki are bringing captives for sale. she realizes this is becoming a trafficking hot spot despite all of the anti-slave trafficking hot spot rules that she has put out in signposts. How can they not read them? How can they not know? Yeah, I don't know how that George meant to do this.
Starting point is 00:22:50 Maybe he didn't, maybe he didn't. But in regards to the slave market and he's making like, yeah, we'll just turn into fruit market. Is it like a reference to the song Strange Fruit, which is about the lynchings of black people. Yeah, I think, like, also, what's going on out here outside the walls of Marine, this is not posing and posturing. Like, this isn't words and prayers. Like, this is the actual policy and action now, right? Like, this is the reality. And actual material change there.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Not, not in real life. Again, this is just a story. But this is the material change. And, like, yeah, Denarius, you have been rendered powerless. You kind of did it to yourself. And, like, it might be outside the walls of Marine, but it's so close to Marine. It's basically practically the same land. Like, the whole city isn't that big and, like, that close without any sort of enforcement of the other laws. If anything, the posing and posturing here is actually Marine. It's, that's an empty, that's an empty place now. It's not the slave market.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Like, that's your husband that you just married because he promised you peace. That also was like, in order to marry you and bring you peace, I'm bringing slavery back. Yeah. The posing and posturing is her being like, yeah. But what if we just said we were against slavery and didn't actually enforce it? Unfortunately, that's the reality of your current kingdom. It's also great to be able to chart the Dothraki because I'm pretty sure this might be Jago, right? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Don't know. We literally have no clue. No, none of us know. But you do. Oh. I mean, I'm just thinking, you know, he leaves. And if all of the Dothraki, all of the different Kalesars and the people are all a big part of her beginning plot in the winds a winner, which is, my God, this is crazy. You guys, you all, look under your chair right now. Look under your chair. Oh, my God. The wins of winter. What if it was here? What if it was here by the time we said that? Like, what if it was here by this Friday?
Starting point is 00:25:00 Like, in the next few days, this came out. Eliana, look at your ceiling. It's the winds of winter. Oh, my God. You're like, I'm not falling for that shit again. It feels like it right now. It's fucking 32 degrees. That's the fucking winds of winter right there.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Jesus. It's fucked up. It's fucked up. It is fucked up. But, yeah, so it's crazy to, like, chart that they came, brought some slaves left, and then they get far enough that maybe we see them in the beginning of T-W. with Danny's plot. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:25:31 It's fun to map it out. I don't know. It's kind of fun. Kind of fun. I believe you. Thank you. Leave me alone. I don't know anything.
Starting point is 00:25:43 That is Glinda vibes now that you say it. Damn. This is a debate. Not an argument. We don't argue. This is a debate. We were settling. Yeah, discussion.
Starting point is 00:25:51 I was curious. I was like, are you Glinda and I'm Elfabah? But then she was like, I think I'm Chistery, the monkey. So I don't know. it could be two things I don't know Yeah Inside of you there are
Starting point is 00:26:04 Two Wicked characters So Wrapped in Vermilion And black thoughts Danny endures the feast Letting his daughter laugh And boast The talk turned to the morrow's
Starting point is 00:26:19 Pitfights Barsena black hair Against the Boar Cros The spotted cat Gogor versus Balakwo Lara Balaquo Um
Starting point is 00:26:31 No queen has clean hands Danny tells herself This is the price of peace Okay I know this is sacrilegious I've been like comparing her to Robert But like I think we're supposed to Because they're both rulers
Starting point is 00:26:45 I think I'm supposed to It's also a little Stanish Stanisish of her That one's weird to say But to be taking no part in the feast itself And be rendered silent like Robert obviously wasn't silent. We know this. He was very boisterous. He was loud and he made speeches. But the politicking itself was left to everyone around him. And that's what she's letting his dar do here in a way. She's letting him do the politicking. We've seen for a couple of chapters now. She's just like, I don't know. I don't know. Just let my husband decide what to do about those things. She's just washed her hands entirely of like that situation even though she's saying no queen has clean hands. And Robert was effective. made silent and that's what's happening
Starting point is 00:27:29 to her here. It also reminds me of Stannis and that like we know what Stannis is like he doesn't want to partake in festivities and when that would also arguably be important for the politicking and I understand why Dineries doesn't like want to deal with these people. It kind of makes sense. It does make sense. Right? Like what's
Starting point is 00:27:47 the fucking point of it? But you know, especially because like she's been rendered powerless again. What is she going to do with all these people? There's nothing to negotiate. anymore. She's already lost. For now, I don't know, girl. Just bust out the dragons.
Starting point is 00:28:03 We could fucking red bedding this. I'm just saying, I'm not, I mean like, not this thing. It's terrible because that's literally the answer. Like, that's the answer throughout this entire art. And that's what Danny Ten is about. Like, she's a prettier and we're going to get reminded of it soon.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Oh my gosh, she's a way prettier Tywin. Well, that's also true. Anyways, so denarius pays a price. But again, is this piece because she's all like, you know, I didn't want to create any more De Reyes, Quoros, and Airways. I'm like, well, this is going to just keep making more De Reyes, Quoros and Airways, especially if you're telling me that the Dothraki are coming with more captives. That was kind of what they fucking were doing out there. And like, maybe this is not the system that creates more Haseas, because, you know, Drogon's out and about doing whatever.
Starting point is 00:28:52 but like, you know, the few that will die now from this system, A, it's not very few, and it's still going to be the same few that always died. And, you know, she's saying she's willingly paying the price for whatever this piece is. And I'm like, again, who is actually paying the price here? We asked this in practically, like, every POV. We asked it a lot during, like, some of those status heavy ones. And, like, standard sacrifices an ongoing theme throughout the series. And I don't think this is the sacrifice This is not the price she wanted to pay You paid to get
Starting point is 00:29:28 Literally none of the things you wanted Yeah And it's great that you kind of differentiated Dereo's Quaro's Aeroys From the Hoseas right Because also like Danny was born into this system And sold right back into this system And it's something that like she
Starting point is 00:29:48 Has acknowledged and has tried to change but also she's now part of it in creating these deaths, right? The system that creates Hasea's, the system that creates Quintons. I mean, she was meant to marry a prince. She was meant to chew him up and swallow him up for his use, too, in a way. He would have liked it. Oh, yeah, he's totally probably into that. He's in it.
Starting point is 00:30:12 He's probably undead right now, rigor mortis, but only in his undead cock. Yeah. And I'm sorry I said those words. I really don't know what I did. I was here to support you. I was like, yeah. Yeah. Girl power.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Oh, my God. We meet the youngish commander. Yirka's Yo-Yunzak. He's ancient. He's toothless. He's carried to the table. His fellow lords are scarcely more impressive than he is. And Danny's like, how have such men brought me so low?
Starting point is 00:30:50 Like, how the fuck did this happen? I wonder this all the time. So, so real. The self-sword captains are another matter, right? The tattered prince is there. Gailo Regan of the Long Lanses and Bloodbeard of the Company of the Cat. And then, wait, here's a guess that if he showed up at my wedding after the shit he just pulled, there would be no safe conduct.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Brown Ben Plum. What the fuck? You just come to my wedding, bitch? You just show the fuck up. What is it? You show up on the day of my wedding. Of my wedding. Fuck my daughter.
Starting point is 00:31:29 My wedding. Not my daughter, my wedding. We get a little reminder. I mean, we could. We could do. We get a little reminder that in between chapters here as well, she has sworn peace to the young kai, sending seven hostages of her own, including Dario, so one of the big,
Starting point is 00:31:50 backbones and beats of this episode is every other paragraph her thinking what the fuck have I done I've sent Dario away it's good for him it's good for him this is right he needs to go be a hostage to somebody
Starting point is 00:32:03 no no it's not good for him if he was here he would have killed everyone oh it's so sexy and oh my god now I'm wet but she thinks he will be safer there my captain was not made for peace and all I'm gonna say is like girl whatever you gotta tell yourself sister whatever you got situation ship so bad you give him up as a hostage like that's messy
Starting point is 00:32:26 maybe they're all in that way i don't know oh my god this all sucks like the enemy was fucking invited to your wedding the literal enemies that you've sworn against are just big chilling at your wedding just hanging out and you know at your wedding you've let them render you toothless and Okay, so I think this is so unrelated, once again. Another person who's a guest at this wedding from the Salsword companies is Bloodbeard, who is described as farting like a thunder clap. And that just made me think of our friend Thunderclap.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Not that you're like a fart, but I wasn't sure if like... Was it about him? Yeah, did you take your inspiration from this name? I don't know. Let me know. A Thunder clap, maybe. Maybe. I need to know.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Thunder clap right in. Tell us if you're the big fart. Sorry. We're not trying to gas, like you. Yeah. Trying to gas you up. I'm sorry. We are trying to gas you up.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Anyways, good call out. Thank you. Also, this is a crazy year ball guy. Nothing else besides. Good job, Aliana. We also learned that Scaha's Mokandak has been displaced here. He's replaced by Hizdar's cousin, Margaz. Molorak, right?
Starting point is 00:33:51 So we have a Scaha's Molorak now. The shavepate's outy. We get the line. The shave paint was absent as well. The first thing Hizdar had done upon being crowned was to remove him from command of the brazen beasts. No. Replacing him with his own cousin, the plump and pasty margazzoorak. It is for the best.
Starting point is 00:34:10 The green grace says there's blood between Lorak and Kandak and the shavepate. Well, yeah, no fucking shit because. scahasmocondack was literally like actually kind of going out at the nobles a little bit like he actually see i'm back to thinking he's good yeah i'm back to thinking well he's not all resinac suck we yeah resnac anti now but i do think i do think actually i don't know she should why did she let him do this like she didn't have to do that she didn't have to let his dar do that She should have kept Scahas, even though there's bad blood. She should have kept him on as a check.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Yeah. Checks and balances. We used to have that in this country. We used to be a country. Maybe we never were. I don't know. All right. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:35:00 I went down a whole, like, journey just now. Interesting that when Ben meets her here in a minute, he offers her someone's head. he just says like, I've got a head for you, I'm going to bring you a head, which I'm like, oh, Tyrion. So he doesn't really know where he's going to lie, but it doesn't really seem to entrance her. She's like not interested. She's like, yeah, yeah, whatever, you have a head for me. She, like, glosses over it, which is fun. I'm like, because she's so busy being mad at everyone else.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Yeah, I think, I didn't realize, yeah, you're probably right at Tyrion's, but also I'm like, who is she, Circy? What's she going to fucking do with Tyrion's head? Nothing. Yeah. It's not going to make. Can she take it to bed? Can she take it to bed with her? Will it tell her jokes?
Starting point is 00:35:46 I mean, maybe. But, like, also, I think that's also the vibe, too, right? Yeah. Hashtag, not all queens. Not all queens want Tyrion's head. No, but she does want Brown Ben Plum's head, so. I think we actually discussed this a long time ago. Something's unlocking in my fucking brain right now about.
Starting point is 00:36:08 Scary? About, like, some of the early T. Wow chapters, La Barristan T-wow chapters In Patreon You're gonna have to pry that shit out of me With the crowbar, I have no clue I like, I can't
Starting point is 00:36:21 I'm not gonna be able to unlock this memory But something's awakening Something is changed within me Something is not the same I'm dreaming I'm playing by the rules Someone else is Game of Thrones Someone else's Game of Thrones
Starting point is 00:36:38 Game of Thrones That's going to be in our Battle of the Bells, not Battle of the Bells. Sorry, that's a specific song. That's going to be in our Roberts Rebellion musical. Oh, wait. Where? I don't know, but Edina Menzel's going to be in it, even though she says she can't do it anymore. She's going to be in it. I'm going to find out of defying gravity.
Starting point is 00:37:04 Okay. So. Nobody in where. Astros. Sorry, as you were. No, wizard or anyone doing the most? I don't know. Is that they're going to rent my chance,
Starting point is 00:37:25 Oh, so you've envisioned it coming from Ray Gar's point of view because, like, it could. It could. It's the only thing I'd think of in the last moment, really. I mean, it could be interesting. And that's often how art works. Yeah, it could be interesting if it were like blood, Raven, because he's also, like, defied gravity through the burbs, you know?
Starting point is 00:37:45 Oh. It's a thought. Oh, interesting. Interesting. Anyways, back to Danny eight. Yeah, not... Danny eight. She did not eight in this chapter either.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Sorry, Queen. Her second wedding continues. She can't cut down brown bun plum. She can't provoke the young guy. She can't mock his dar in front of the court. And she also can't have Dario. either. So like, what the fuck is the point of all this, you know?
Starting point is 00:38:15 Dario, she thinks of, is war and woe. And one of the thoughts she has of Dario that I thought was interesting, and part of why she's like, I got to send them away is if he did not betray her, he would master her. She did not know which of those she feared the most. And
Starting point is 00:38:31 I think these are perfectly reasonable fears for her to have because she has experienced both. Right? And I think it's very pointed for Deneeris' storyline. And especially when it comes to these fears like anyone that she deals with as a partner
Starting point is 00:38:46 as a spouse is going to potentially be one of these categories like she can't risk being mastered again like she was able to you know maneuver Caldrogo but she was sold to him in the capacity of him being her master
Starting point is 00:39:03 right? It's very pointed language as well that she thinks of Dario is potentially mastering her in the context of this storyline and slavery and all that happening outside the window. But I think it's also the conflict, internal conflict, that most of the women and girls face in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire where their father's, brothers, husbands are all in effect, their masters, they are all rendered as property.
Starting point is 00:39:28 And even if they act as though, like, even if their father's, brother's husbands act like they're good guys and, like, they're not, they're masters, they still do end up betraying them when they don't act like that because they will still turn it around on them and go against their wishes and reassert that power over them in some extent. You know, we see it in the way that, like, Rob was like, I can't actually trade for my sister. Sorry. Or the way that, like, you know, he kind of locked up Catlin. She did commit a crime.
Starting point is 00:40:06 But anyway. Oh, son. Yeah, suns far under there too. So, yeah. Yeah. I like the way you've put this, especially because when we start her first act of the story, the horse in culture is so prominent for the Dothraki, right? Like the Dothraki arc becomes a big deal and being able to sit the horse,
Starting point is 00:40:29 making sure that the horse can obey you, et cetera. Obviously, it's kind of preceding her relationship with the dragon later, but also really instructs and paints this kind of power structure and struggle to stay on top like Drogo falling off of his horse, right? That's a sign of a fallen leader, a fallen co. And a dragon also, you know, we come later to the line, you're going to talk about it in just a minute about her on top of the pyramid, right? A naked little girl on top of the pyramid.
Starting point is 00:41:02 And that's also just something that she's been having throughout her entire art. this entire visual of her as the little naked vulnerable girl at the top of the power structure waiting to topple. Oh, yeah. I mean, let's just talk about it now of like, it's not just the power structure on waiting to topple. And like, it's a pile of bodies. The path that she has climbed to the top is built on bodies. Yeah. That's it.
Starting point is 00:41:29 I mean, it's like pretty straightforward. I think like there's multiple, there's several layers with which one can interpret that moment in scene. and I think George wants us to kind of not that it like what he wants us to do like really fucking matters but like I think that's part of what he was trying to write into that scene all those different kinds of ways
Starting point is 00:41:49 that that can be taken after the feast and after Danny urges the leftover food to be given to the poor Gyrr causes castratis sing in the tongue of old geese his dar calls their voices divine and Danny agrees but she's like I feel like
Starting point is 00:42:07 they probably would have preferred to keep their manhood. And I really, I respect that she says that, like, doesn't do much in this moment, but I think she's right. And also I like that she did, she did think to give the food to all those people instead of throwing it away. I think that this poses an interesting contrast to the opulence of those Lannister weddings, right? Like, even Tomens are like, yeah, it was a really small modest wedding with like a bazillion dishes. I'm like, oh, word. Oh, yeah, that's interesting. Absolutely. I guess especially now that they fucking have food here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Well, and right, that's the next sign of, like, them having the food, them having power in the city again, but also at what cost, to the point you made of it being built on bodies. Interesting. Yeah. And an interesting difference of, like, in the show that the books were based on. You have, you know, Circe kind of, like, forced into giving them the food away against her will. at the Purple Wedding, where Marjorie kind of also pushed and Mastra Paisal pushed, et cetera. Yeah. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Yeah, I suddenly just realized, you know, like, that is another thing that's likening it with the reconstruction stuff, right, and trying to get the food because the agricultural center, not center, but a lot of the agriculture, of course, was perhaps coming from the south. It's great to think of that in terms of what's happening in Westeros, too, right? You have the veil kind of like with food, with stock, with grain. they're all right and then everyone else is kind of struggling
Starting point is 00:43:38 over that now in the reach we good like the place that had the wine the arbor yeah that's true I wonder if I really think brown ben plum
Starting point is 00:43:49 maybe brought some of that back just saying because they have friends in the reach right he got it delivered man you could really make a really good postal service with dragons
Starting point is 00:44:04 I thought you meant like the band and I'm like Ben Gibbard but a dragon interesting we can have a postal service or postal servicey song in the musical too it goes oh such great heights could go along pretty well with a defying gravity if you think about it huh uh-huh please don't turn this into a jukebox musical we're way more creative than that no no we're not going to we're way more creative no you're right no you're right I don't want a jukebox musical. And we're going to write it. We're going to do it, you guys.
Starting point is 00:44:40 I believe in us that we will finish it someday. Yeah. I mean, like, what else are we going to do after Tyrion's done? Every entertainer at the wedding was a slave. That had been part of the piece. What isn't a part of the piece, quote unquote? His dar had offered to accept the singers as a gift. He will make more.
Starting point is 00:45:04 She thinks bitterly. All the slave owners had been allowed to bring their slaves to the city of Marine and to the wedding without threat of them being freed. That was also part of the piece. How nice. When the guests next wander out into the night gardens, Danny finally meets face to face with traitor brown Ben Plum. He tries to joke with her and bow to her and call her his magnificence. And she's like, you're a traitor. so there's that he says he simply went over to the winning side and that his men had voted on it not just his choice he tells her it isn't all about the gold and then he tells her a sell sword's tail once he came upon a corpse that was wearing a studded jerkin and he took the jerkin but gold was hidden within the jerkin it was enough gold for any man to be a lord but this one had died and he asks what's the use of gold for him
Starting point is 00:46:03 a dead man going on to, of course, tell us that his captain kind of robbed him of the gold and was like, you can keep the jerking kid. He learned a valuable lesson that day. And I do have to call out, beneath the gold, the bitter steel, question mark. Question mark, question mark. It felt like that was in there. I think so, especially with all the talk of, like, sell sword companies and, like, what they're willing to defect for and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:46:30 Which side did affect, too? Yeah. Yeah. And that's the lesson. See, silver's sweet, gold's our mother, but once you're dead, they're worth less than the last shit you take as you lie dying. I told you once there are old cell swords
Starting point is 00:46:46 and there are bold cell swords, but there are no old, bold cell swords. My boys didn't care to die, that's all. And when I told them, you couldn't unleash them dragons against the youngish men. Well, Danny thinks. You saw me as defeated. But she tells him she understands, and she does, really, she thinks it too.
Starting point is 00:47:10 She asks, what'd you do with all that wealth he once found? And then he tells the story of losing it to his brothers and captain, tells her, never trust a cell sword. Later, she comes upon Barriston, who agrees after having eavesdropped. Yes, he was right to tell you never to trust a cell sword. Danny's like, interesting. So do you think we could convince somebody like a cell sword in the second son? to kill Brown Ben and take his place.
Starting point is 00:47:37 Embarrassing gets really uncomfortable, and he's like, I'm not sure. And she thinks, no, he's far too honorable to answer to this. Of course he wouldn't be able to do that. I don't know that I ever really paid attention here, but I'm like, Danny out here like, so anyways, could we kill him. What do you think about killing him? Dario did that once with those guys. Should I kill him?
Starting point is 00:47:56 Should I just kill him? I'm really pissed about him. Should I kill him? I mean, yeah, I like didn't pay attention and notice this. like really either, but uh... Should I kill him? Should we kill him? She could. I just, like, really don't know the difference of a make. I'm like, maybe Danny didn't pay attention to it either, because Brown Ben Plum
Starting point is 00:48:13 also told her, like, he didn't make the decision, the whole troop did. Like, killing him isn't going to change and make them all suddenly be like, yo, what if we follow you? Right? Like, it couldn't even, like, split the company and be like, I don't know, one dude. One dude defects to Danny, like, as opposed to weird dart. He's like, the whole, everyone's coming with me. you know getting rid of him would be like an act of vengeance which like I'm not saying she would be wrong to seek like what good would it do you like it's not going to change the outcome like another head's just going to rise up in its place all the second sons they're still going to choose the winning side because they want to live now if you unleashed your dragons then you could kill brown bed plum and get everyone on your side because you had dragons girl yeah I've got I got ideas I could fix it I could fix her I could fix her.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Well, and like, that's the point. If she had released her dragons from the front of this book, she would be able to maybe have prevented a lot of the bullshit that's happening around her, let alone winning over him and his men. He says it very clearly throughout this chapter, throughout previous chapters. If you unleash your dragons, we will all follow you and we will never look at another. And because of that, they have looked at another. Because of that, people are talking that there is another to follow out there now.
Starting point is 00:49:38 He's going to Westeros. That's a problem for her. She missed out on more than her big chance here within the city politics, but also a wider scope. And all of this, of course, is leading to chapter 10, Danny 10, Unleash the D. Yes. Right? Where she unleashes both herself and the dragon, the Danny and the dragon. Like that is, when she does that, that is what everyone's been.
Starting point is 00:50:03 telling her this entire book, so I understand why she had to say no, this entire book, because Danny Ten is that much of an epic that finally says the dragons know who you are, Denarius, do you? Yeah. I mean, yeah, she should have
Starting point is 00:50:19 just, she had released it, and also, like, I mean, yeah, the second sons told you, like, not only do they want to be on the winning side, they want to be on the side, but the most pizzazz. And who has more pizzazz than the dragons? God, not this, like, young griff-ass bitch.
Starting point is 00:50:37 No, I mean, like, he's got cool hair, I guess, but so does Deneerries. Anyways. So, also her being, like, I don't know, what if we just, like, found a way to just kill, just kill Bromben Plum? It does remind me a little of seriously trying to get a kettle black to assassinate John. Denieres is much more justified in all this, because I'm also just like, I don't know, what did John do to use? He's just there. He's just there. Yeah, that's...
Starting point is 00:51:04 He is just there. It's like he's not going to get there alive, probably, let's be real. A very desperate plea, right, for power. Like, you could tell she's feeling powerless in the latter half of this chapter. Yeah, that's true. That's true. Bereson reminds her that the second sons are full of treacherous men, but he could call up Gailo Reagan or the Tattered Prince to chit-chat with her if she really wants
Starting point is 00:51:36 She decides there are too many eyes and ears to do that now But they should plan to find another path soon to do so She says that in Pereson says that in Kings Landing usually Littlefinger would have done all this Or varies and he's like I'm just too old And I'm too much of a night to specialize in this And then there he says that they can release maybe some of the honored guests Like pretty Maris is a gesture of respect to their captain
Starting point is 00:51:59 Bairston says The woman's the worst of all of them You know, like women's rights They can be like shitty and And violent too That's what gender equality is about Yeah Woo
Starting point is 00:52:12 Yeah And Danny says all the better Exactly She also recommends They free up the long lances And the company of the cat Like Bloodbeard There's blood beard again
Starting point is 00:52:26 To help do their bidding Bairston tells her She's too young to remember the nine penny kings but uh it was bad and blood beard is like that he's bad and i'm like well bearson why don't you tell me about the war of the nine penny kings my roman empire also like it's interesting that he is like out there talking about the bad performers of the nine penny kings and not about how there was actually a class struggle going on beneath the surface as well like beneath the gold though bitter steel you mean oh my god eddie gras like danny tell
Starting point is 00:52:59 him, well, I don't want to go against you, but I do want to have a defense ready for when my husband, you know, breaks the peace, which I'm 900% sure is going to happen. Wait, does De Nere's not know about the nine penit? Does she not know anything about the Blackfires at all? I don't think she does. I don't think she does either. I think she's been fed straight up America propaganda her entire life. Well, I think, I wonder if this series even really knew much about them because he was like just a boy he was just a boy like I couldn't download all fucking history class at seven or eight years old so like I don't think she knows about the blackfires the Wi-Fi and Tyroche and bravos like wasn't that good at the time like
Starting point is 00:53:41 this is like the 90s we didn't well and not even like the end of the 90s with the matrix where you could download it all in your head you know right like the front of the 90s where like you were lucky if you had the AOL disc in the mail that you put into your computer with three minutes on it and you couldn't call at the same time I'm like the worst glass candle, the worst glass candle ever. That's my ASMR. We're going to sample that for a song in our Roberts Rebellion musical. It's going to be very avant-garde.
Starting point is 00:54:16 We kind of hear that, you know, Barrison says to her, look, I don't really, like, this is stuff Little Finger would do back in court. Like, this isn't me, girl. And so it's another repeat of the conversation with Grolio, right? Admiral Grolio, like, I don't do this. This isn't my job. Once more, Danny doesn't have the right people in the right places. She doesn't, A, trust anyone in her vicinity to be her spy master. The closest may have been Scahaz, Mokondack, honestly. Barriston doesn't have the capability to be a spy master. We all know that. He is her head knight, H. guy. I was going to say H-Bick, but I'm like, he's not the head bitch in charge. That's Danny. Co. H-B. Associate H-Bick. I don't know. I find it so interesting.
Starting point is 00:55:07 Like, even the most mediocre of kings are successful in Westeros, even with an inherited cabinet, right? Like, a lot of the council gets forgiven when Robert inherits them. And sure, he's not a great king. He's not really a successful king. He doesn't have a lot of things to write about besides the grade. Rebellion. After that, it's like, it's peace, homie, until it's not. But inheriting even just like a somewhat skilled cabinet helped him lead the great country of Westrose. And she doesn't have that lineup. Like, she doesn't have the full lineup on the bench. She doesn't have everybody
Starting point is 00:55:43 filled in. And she's ignoring the advice that he is giving her. He's like, hey, you're sending out some really bloodthirsty people who have no reason to be loyal to you whatsoever to do just. jobs for you maybe, like, seems bad and you're hoping, like, you're going to let them out on goodwill and they're going to be like, yeah, I'll do these things for you. This does seem maybe like an ill choice to release some of these folks. I mean, maybe. But I'm also an abolitionist, so, like, get them out of there. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:56:18 Journeys, journeys are taken. I can be two things. Inside of you, there are two characters from Wicked. Free them. Free them. I'm bobbing my wine in my head, you guys. You're missing it. Yes, and also what you were saying here reminds me of how we were discussing with Circe's chapters.
Starting point is 00:56:39 Like, even the most mediocre of fucking kings were successful because people actually fucking listen to them and would do what they wanted them to do solely because they had a dick, right? Whereas for Circe, she has to, like, fight and scrape for everything. bit of like loyalty and you know she wasn't taught a bunch of things and like people won't listen to her like people would say yes to like the dumbest fucking ideas from like mediocre guys again solely solely because of the dick and they wouldn't for her even though like some of them i'm like i don't know that that was a bad idea right right but with denari's like she's kind of dealing with that
Starting point is 00:57:20 too right now like you can see that she's starting to be rendered again powerless by everything, and in the same way that, like, you know, seriously is trying to be like, well, who's loyal to me? What moves can I even make? Because my son is usurping me. That's the, not usurping, but, you know, that's the issue that DeNeres is dealing with here. She's like, well, I guess my husband's taking over stuff and, oh, I guess my household's full of, like, enemies.
Starting point is 00:57:45 What the fuck are all these youngish doing here, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Bad times, you know. things are terrible what's the line we like to say diva down diva is down
Starting point is 00:58:05 no you're totally right she is down and like I know we've said that a lot in Searcy chapters but also I feel like we've said it a bit in Danny chapters and like yeah diva is also very down right now I feel like we would have said it in other chapters we just didn't know it yet I think we've said
Starting point is 00:58:23 We've said. Yeah, I'm just saying we would have said it for other POVs. We just, like, didn't know it in 2018. Oh, my God. I was so young. Barriston reports that plague is spreading among the young kai host, potentially weakening them, and he kind of presents it as a strategy, which it's not. Danny thinks of Quaith's warnings while he's saying this,
Starting point is 00:58:47 and she thinks of the pale mayor and the son's son, Quinton. Barriston tells her, hey, there is another road. You could go down the Dornish Road. Oh, my God. The Dornish Trio were at the wedding feast. And they were, of course, seated as far as possible from her husband. Barriston comments, hey, they are really noble. I fought with Lewin.
Starting point is 00:59:10 Prince Lewin was the shit. He was a good fucking guy. Danny is what he says. And he boasts of Quentin's bloodline and his loyalty to the Targaryans. And she's like, yeah, he brings parchment, not swords, and he should return home. Barrison argues, well, he can't go home empty-handed. And Danny thinks, well, he'll die here then, which is, yeah, that's true. All the same, she tells Barrison to fetch him, and Danny decides to take Quentin to meet her children.
Starting point is 00:59:42 Yeah, so I think she's right about Quentin. He did. He did just show up with parchment. It's kind of like that song from 3LW. I'm getting a little tired of your broken promises, promises. Promises, promises. Looking at your page. No more.
Starting point is 01:00:05 The precursor to the Cheetah Girls 3LW, just a reminder. Yeah, the proto Cheetah Girls. Oh, yeah. Oh, fuck, my phone. The ore cheetah girls. Oh, my God. I should leave that in. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:21 So there's a line here that I thought was interesting where she goes, she thinks about like how every child knows its mother, whether she's like bringing Clinton down there with the dragons, she's hearing them calling to her. I'm like, on one hand, it makes me think of like, oh, so Aria will recognize Lady Stoneheart. Every child knows its mother, right? But on the other hand, on the other hand, I'm thinking about John Snow, another Targaryen who was a child who does not know his mother. I really like what you've pulled out here, especially with the Aria Stoneheart. And it makes me think of that Catalan line about Circe, right? Like, let me show her how gentle of a fucking woman I can be. Give me Circey Lannister in our room, which I would watch. Yeah, I think it'd be interesting.
Starting point is 01:01:08 I would. Would. Yeah. For fun. My enjoyment. In the dark pit, Viserian and Regal, who are introduced, turned their burning eyes upon them. Quentin is white-faced, afraid,
Starting point is 01:01:23 and he kind of hops backwards, and he's like, where's the third dragon? And she responds, Drogon is hunting. She tells him she means to ride one of them, and she remembers Viseris telling her, Agin only mounted his own dragon, and his sisters only mounted their own,
Starting point is 01:01:40 that no rider ever flew two dragons, which I know this is like a dragon lore drop, but also it makes me wonder, by point of text, if she will go against that and she will end up being a rider of two of her dragons. Because if anyone could do it, it would be her. Yeah. Like, George hasn't ruled it out.
Starting point is 01:01:57 I think, like, he said things like dragons have had multiple riders, but no, rider has had multiple dragons, but he doesn't, like, ruled it out as a possibility. If anyone could do it, it would be her. Mostly because of how chronology works. She's not like other girls. Because the story is going forward, but also that. He stammers that they are fearsome creatures, and she tells them, they are dragons, and so is she. Prove it!
Starting point is 01:02:27 He says he has dragon blood, too. Back to the first denaries, the sister to King Daron the Good, wife to the Prince of Dorn, who the water gardens were built for. And she's like, I don't know much of Dornish history. Which makes sense. And so Quentin tells her he would love to show her the pink marble palace and pools and fountains at the sea someday. She says, they're lovely, and thinks, hmm, maybe you don't belong here in Marine. And she tells him to go home. It's not safe at court for him here.
Starting point is 01:02:58 He made Dario look like a fool, and her husband watches him. He argues that he is a prince of Dorn, and he will not run from slaves and sell swords. I love this little passage. I put this in mostly because I just, like, it's so sad, and she's already like a cynical old bitch like we are. I love her. Then you are truly a fool, Prince Frog. Danny gave her wild children one last lingering look. She could hear the dragons screaming as she led the boy back to the door
Starting point is 01:03:28 and see the play of light against the bricks reflection of their fires. If I look back, I am lost. It's like when I have to lock my cats away during a meeting or right now they're locked in the other room. I miss them so much. Anyways, that night, after the guests leave, bring them out. Allie, join us. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:53 That night, after the guests leave, Hisdar takes her to bed, first telling her, he kept her peace and kept his promise. Drunk and eager, he whispers, May the gods grant us a sun. But Danny only hears Miriamazdor's curse, repeating in her head. When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east,
Starting point is 01:04:15 After the very mediocre to poor sexual encounter with her husband, he rolls over, falls asleep drunk, Danny lies awake thinking of Dario. I should have never taken him to my bed. I knew what he was. So I have a lot of thoughts about this scene, I guess, with her in his dar where like, you know, I wonder if Danny could have refused his dar. I am curious about the dynamics and the power within this marriage because I think she's living under the, illusion right now, like, and she does still, like, have quite a bit of power, and we'll see that happen in, like, you know, the Barrison chapters and how he deals with his dar, right? But I'm curious about it, and I also think it's interesting that, like, among the options that she considers, though, after his dar passes out, after this, she's, like, thinking about waking him
Starting point is 01:05:08 back up to hold her, kiss her, and slash or fuck her again. I'm like, wow, things are bleak. She's like, I don't know. Yeah, I guess I can just wake him up. And like, I guess we can just fuck again just to feel anything or not be alone. And the language from this is actually almost literally exactly the same as language from Danny Seven. Addo-a-da. Oh, yeah. So this line says her noble husband was seen fast asleep. Danny could only twist and turn beside him. She wanted to shake him, wake him, make him hold her, kiss her, fuck her again. But even if he did, he would fall back to sleep again afterward, leaving her alone in the darkness, which is also a call back to Danny's dream, Danny's dream, right, of running down the hallway and the wind howling,
Starting point is 01:05:59 the icy wind howling and being left alone in the darkness. Okay, so again, shake him, wake him, bake him. Now, Danny said, she wanted to shake him, wake him, make him hold her, fuck her, help her forget. yet, but she knew that if she did, he would only smile and yawn and say, it was just a dream my queen go back to sleep in regards to Dario. So she's in the state where it's so, she's just so lonely. It doesn't matter. She brought Dario in because she was lonely.
Starting point is 01:06:29 She's even willing for it to be fucking his dar and like, I've been there, girl. Not proud to say it. I've been there. And then you get that dream at the end of the chapter. She dreams of like smoke and fire. Oh, my God, not your dream of spring. You get her, like, dream lighter of smoke and fire, too. So, like, I do wonder now that you've brought up her running in that first couple chapters
Starting point is 01:06:51 and dance when she dreams of her loneliness, basically, personified, but also not. But when she dreams of that running, like, it's interesting to compare the two, because then she's, is she getting glimmers of vision mixed with glimmers of her loneliness? I don't know. I'm really into my dreams lately, right? Like, we've talked a lot about my powers. and I've had a lot of dreams lately where I've had to wake up and pee and things are so weirdly like subconsciously just strange that are happening
Starting point is 01:07:21 but I realize I'm like damn I really got a pee that is a major plot point going on amidst all the craziness so like is she swirling the subconscious around with a little bit of the visions and is that even affecting her further we see characters that affects look at Darren the dreamer right he could not function like a normal boy he turned to the drink in order to do so so i don't know just thoughts just thoughts and also there's a little bit of a downward progression here right like in danny seven she's like oh she wants him to wake up and fuck her but he'd only say it was just a dream go back to sleep but then now it's become he would leave her alone in the darkness which becomes a
Starting point is 01:08:06 little more i don't know if desperate's the word but a little darker right like a little like he doesn't want me, he doesn't need me, no one wants me, I'm alone. She's spiraling a little into the darkness and she's also continuing to change what he's doing and cementing it as truth, right, even though it hasn't happened, which I find interesting. She's deciding what this objective truth is to her and telling herself, even if I did, he would do X thing. Maybe it isn't. Maybe you're closing yourself off to him. Well, I think like, I think also his dar probably would do that. I think Daria would at least say the nice thing, right? But the line in eight is about his Dar. And so I think it makes sense her to feel close off to him. But it's also like, dang.
Starting point is 01:08:52 But she's applying it to everyone. Yeah. No, I think so. And like, but it's her own husband who went through all this fucking trouble, like, doesn't even want her. And we know, like, it's just sad, but also, I don't know, you're talking about like all these things swirling in there. And I thought you were going to say, like, I don't know, something else. I thought you were likening it to like the swirling of the pee in your dreams. And I was like, what the fuck is going on here? But that's not where you went. Yeah, I'm going to give you a swirly in my pee.
Starting point is 01:09:15 Oh, my God. That's not where we went. And yeah, I mean, it's possible that it is being mixed in those sorts of dragon dreams. We see that it was likely much more prevalent in Targaryen. So we thought, especially, you know, if Helena was a dreamer as well. And, you know, like, she didn't turn to drink, but she had to develop a very intense special interest so in bugs yeah well that's just maybe look at me that'll happen take the Tylenol that's how I came out denarius has my god denarius has one too hers are dragons but she just hasn't been
Starting point is 01:09:55 partaking lately I loved worms when I was a kid yeah same I think we just I think we've probably I think we've discussed that yeah I tried to save them during the rain because I thought they would drown they were fine yeah I think they were like try to move them elsewhere yeah I I would be like, oh, no, you gotta go somewhere and that's not as drowny. I would do that. They're probably like, quit dishousing me. I would do that.
Starting point is 01:10:17 I think I've told you all this. And then I would, like, spit on them because I was like, this will save them. The moisture from my saliva. And looking back on it, it probably hurt them. Wow. You were meant to watch Dune 2 or Dune Prophecy Season 2, which is now in production.
Starting point is 01:10:33 Wait, is it? I'm actually excited about that. It's in production, baby. I am too. I'm, like, really lamely excited for our second Dune. episode nap. Yeah, no, I actually really liked. There's some things that were like, that was weird and I don't know
Starting point is 01:10:46 about that choice, but there were some things that I really liked about Dune Prophecy. I'm, I only care about Tula, probably. She deserves the world. Her son's like a weird girl. I like Valia, too, though. No, I like Valia. You're right. I like Valia. I think, like, Tula's son is like,
Starting point is 01:11:02 couldn't you have been cooler? Your mom's so cool. Why do you suck so hard? I know. It's so unfair. I really do love Liza and Kat. That's right, that's them We just spoiled Dune Prophecy for everyone Sorry, all Go listen to our episode on it
Starting point is 01:11:18 Alone in the Darkness Danny twists and turns Thinking of Dario And she's interrupted by a soft voice in the darkness Missande asked after her Saying she heard her crying And Danny denies crying Saying
Starting point is 01:11:29 She has everything she wished for She's like And they say she's so lucky She's a star She's a star But she cry Cry Cry
Starting point is 01:11:38 cries of a lonely heart. Our lonely heart, wow. If there's nothing missing. If there's nothing in my life
Starting point is 01:11:50 then why do these tears Come at night. Come at night. We've been only getting more musical as the podcast has progressed. Anyways, She has everything she wished for, peace and her king.
Starting point is 01:12:11 But she asked Missande to stay and tell her about Noth all the same. Stay, said Danny. I do not wish to be alone. His grace is with you. Miss Ande pointed out. His grace is dreaming, but I cannot sleep. On the morrow I must bathe in blood. The price of peace.
Starting point is 01:12:33 She smiled wanly and patted the bed. come sit talk with me if it please you missonde sat down beside her what shall we talk of home said danny nath butterflies and brothers tell me of the things that make you happy the things that make you giggle all your sweetest memories remind me that there is still good in the world missonde did her best she was still talking when Danny finally felt asleep to dream queer, half-warm dreams of smoke and fire. The morning came
Starting point is 01:13:14 too soon. Damn, not dawn. I went that direction because you went like also a little girl voice and I have to be I was like I have to be even more little girl voice. I have to be even more like, you know, and like you were talking about the weird look. I was like I have to be even
Starting point is 01:13:32 more that. So that was the artistic choice that I made in that scene. Nice. I think that was beautiful. Thanks. I don't think so based off of your reaction. But it was a choice that I will stick with
Starting point is 01:13:54 and that gives it artistic integrity. So I think there's some interesting things here like multiple times now. Missande has been hearing things right she thought she heard Danny screaming a few chapters ago she's just getting her brains fucked out and now she's like hearing
Starting point is 01:14:15 Danny crying and her allegedly hearing the Astapori trying to claw in at night and I'm like what is she hearing? I mean I do think she was hearing Danny screaming from Dario fucking her brains out as well as Danny crying
Starting point is 01:14:32 from loneliness of having to a slaver in order to somehow free the slaves. Question mark. Except now they're slaving again because slaver's going to slave in Slaver's Bay. So, but I'm just saying, to be fair, but I like what you're, are you tinfoiling? Are you? You know, a girl thought she was doing some tinfoil. She thought she had something, but I think you're right.
Starting point is 01:14:59 She did actually hear those things. The implication is that DeNeres was crying. It wasn't like shown in the. dialogue but like it wasn't shown in the like narration but it's shown through this dialogue she's like no and like we're supposed to we're supposed to piece that together but i was like wow missonde's got powers for something like a lot of people do think that though i know people do think i mean like we questioned it literally just like a chapter ago but i mean you never know maybe she does but also the dragons are easily explained because as like the noise that missonde hears
Starting point is 01:15:34 do you think it's the dragons because we went to go visit the dragons and there were like slashes taken out of the stone. Which again, just like my cats, just like my cats. Probably wouldn't be that quiet, dude. That's true. They're probably not. If cats can do it. I'm a light sleeper, so I get it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:53 Like, low key, my bathroom doors have chunks taken out of them by my cats. So just to give you structural conceptual parallels here, a dragon could probably take swipes out of stone. And the cats do also eat grout. Oh, my God. Not anymore, because there's no more grout to eat, because he ate it all. Because he ate it all. Fuck, yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:19 Because he ate it all. Hell yeah. Fucking Jeharis, dude. The worst. Once upon a time, I started writing this essay and then I never wrote it. And I don't know that I feel like writing it anymore. So we're going to condense it down to like three lines. Get it.
Starting point is 01:16:36 Get it. Because I don't feel like making it a whole thesis anymore. But it's an ongoing thing, right? And Dennery's a storyline where everyone thinks she's the princess in the tower. She's the prize. And in a way, like, she is in some ways a princess in the tower. But they don't think she's the person that she's going to claim so that they can, like, fulfill the end of their story, right? Jora
Starting point is 01:17:02 sees her as a reward for like all these things. Like, I did all these things. I earned your love. Quentin clearly, he thinks that this is his adventure. He's like, I'm going to do it. I'm going to marry the beautiful princess and we're going to fucking save everything because I did that. And even his dars probably like,
Starting point is 01:17:18 I did it. I saved the city. I got the beautiful princess. Victorian obviously seems to think this in regards to his storyline as well. Even Uron likely does. And they've all got it wrong. They've all got it wrong, right? Like, because, of course, like, I'm going to quote the song that's very viral right now on the, on the internet of, like, every time a man writes a song, he's a cowboy, a sailor.
Starting point is 01:17:42 Victorian actually is a sailor, but... Oh, is this Sabrina? No, this is that Annabelle Dinda's song that I sent you, though. Oh, the one you... Every time a man writes a song, he's a cowboy, a sailor, which I feel is very swap-coded in some ways, and yeah. So, like, they all think that it's about them. But no, De Neri's, she's the main character of this story. Like, the men aren't even her reward.
Starting point is 01:18:08 They're not, they're literally not a reward. Like, what the fuck kind of reward are they? They're not worth that. They're just side characters. And, again, not a reward. They're actually even just the means for her to even be able to achieve what she's trying to achieve. Oh, fun.
Starting point is 01:18:23 We never looked for a princess. Exactly. Wow, I get you. What a good essay I understood The essay that I'm just like not going to write I don't I just do not care for it anymore You can't write that and the award-winning musical That's going to be Robert's Rebellion
Starting point is 01:18:42 In a funny like title of like your princess is in another tower And she's not your princess either Because you know they keep searching for her And they never fucking get to her Pretend you all read this essay It's a her! It's a dart Wait, what? Yeah, exactly
Starting point is 01:18:57 That's what I'm saying. Wow, we were meant for each other. We did it. We wrote the essay, kind of. We copy-pasted it together. We did it. With the help of Annabel Dinda. Thank you, Annabel.
Starting point is 01:19:10 Yeah, things suck. This is a shitty wedding. Diva down. Like, Diva is down. Danny did not ate. No, she didn't. I'm really hoping things, you know, look up for her. In the next chapters.
Starting point is 01:19:26 Like when she's on Derry. Yeah. Honestly, this is a bad thought. Like, the Yonkish getting sick. It's not a strategy if you threw them also over the wall, which has happened in the past. Oh my God. I'm just saying. Yeah. Just get a catapult. It'll be fine. It'll be fine. We've seen it in the story already. Yeah. Threats work. I think I'd be a bad ruler. Well, I'm not electing you. That's for sure. Yeah. I'm not running. I run in I've only seen you run once
Starting point is 01:20:02 in your life and it is not now I used to be good but I'm more it's not I gotta work on my cardio y'all out of practice out of practice I get it I'm big on cardio these days I'd be walking I'd be going everywhere I don't know what it is but I'm just out there
