That brings us to our lightning round what we missed between DeNeres 8 and DeNeres 9 in a Dance with Dragons which is one chapter that is Theon 1 in a dance with dragons where Theon makes a leap to faith. That brings us here into DeNeres 9, Adelaida, which is honestly,

as everyone knows, very big, pivotal chapter. Chloe has set us up here with Denieries also makes a leap to a giant snarling, fiery massive faith. It's Drogon. Drogon is the faith. And Chloe's reminded all of us be a dragon. It feels important.

Yeah. I'd also say I added some alternate lightning rounds, Eliana. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Including she's flying high. She's defying gravity. Mm-hmm. And you can't bring her down.

We can't. Shout out Wicked for Good Part 2. I'm seeing that Thursday night at 10 p.m. If I don't fall asleep, I could. You have episode 9, which is always like a big episode with

a lot of drama and episode 10, which is like the mini clash of kings of episodes of where like you get all the infighting has happened and now you have the fallout and now you have to reckon with the aftermath of whatever fell out in the last chapter. And there's a lot of that here. I think we think of Danny 10 is a really big chapter and like 10th chapters are really big for a lot of these two. I think of like Ned 10, which is going to come back here in a minute for me. But this is kind of an insane chapter and the book is not done yet. Like you said, this is like 40% of the book left. And it also leaves her next chapter being killer because it's so just like strung out. It's the aftermath of all of this and like, where do we go from here?

It's really well done. This chapter's amazing. Insane fucking chapter. George R. Martin, you are insane. You're a madman. I love that about you. You mad lad. Incredible. Indeed. Indeed. Well. The sky was a merciless blue without a wisp of cloud in sight. The bricks will soon be baking in the sun, thought Danny. Down on the sands, the fighters will feel the heat through the souls of their sandals. Giqui slipped Danny's silk robe from her shoulders and Erie helped her into the bathing pool. The light of the rising sun shimmered on the wall. broken by the shadow of the persimmon tree.

Dude, she does a gravity bong in this chapter. Holy shit. Oh, my God, I would do that. Someone should make that. Anyways. I'm going to do it 2-9. I love this line. The merciless blue.

It really kind of set... really sets a stage for what we're going through here there's so many different colors that come through it like makes a great contrast with the bricks especially as we're reminded that at the bottom the bricks are red really highlights also to the extent that what we're seeing what we're witnessing here this is not mercy but it's also not just this and also makes you wonder what even is the dragon's mercy right the way that it's been used throughout throughout this entire pov because it does come up every now and then that uh the dragon's mercy not not very mercy right it's it's because it's something that they're playing with.

And then, again, the contrast with the red bricks and evoking the idea of slavery with how strongly it's become associated with the sayings for Astafor, as we're reminded about, like, them baking in the sun. Yeah, even beyond, like, the bricks making her and all of the imagery we've already experienced, I do feel it's so strongly put of, like, the idea of, like, the foundational bricks of slavery and the foundation being something you can't just rip apart unless you're a dragon clawing at it from down below that Masandi hears. And also, I can't believe you're going to make me say this Eliana bit of information.

Like, why did you not have it of? I didn't think it. Merciless blue, White Walker eyes, right? White walkers, whites, whatever. The eyeballs being that blinding, merciless blue feels important. And also kind of brings me back to Ned 10 with the Leon. a fever dream and how you have the streak of blood across the sky and then the blue roses as well across the sky like just that the play of imagery and we get a lot more color and imagery

going on as you get folks in their colored robes and the different pews or bleachers out there that they're sitting in in the stadium being different colors uh color plays a very interesting role during this chapter it does it does comes up a lot we have daddy now rising from the bath and clean. It's typically how baths work. And the sun begins to climb. She would rather drift all day, eating iced fruit and dreaming of a house with a red door,

but a queen belongs to her people. Sajikwi helps her dress in the yellow silk tokar, adding long red veils to shield from wind and sand and also to hide the blood spatters. Danny's handmaids chatter about the day's matches. I mean, they're basically doing sports betting. They're going online on what are those sites people go on to like, What are those sites people go on to like gamble?

Oh, I've seen the apps, but they completely don't stick in my head. I've seen them on TV. People talk about that. And they're like, 1,800, if we give you an issue and you lose all your belongings and your money and your family because you're addicted to gambling, call this number. But if you don't do that, you should do gambling through us. And it's like, ha ha ha ha, that's so funny. We should. Yeah.

Yeah. And Masande returns, telling her that Prince Quentin and his Dornishman seek word from her and her king bids that she joined him. Hmm. Mm-mm-mm. Yes, she does get that whole interaction where Hizdar is calling for her. But also, I love that there's like the split. She's connected here, right?

Like, she has to choose which useless path she takes. Like, Quinton's path so far for her has been like, oh, this is fun. This is a fun side path I could take. Like, turn to page 72 if you choose to marry Quinton. But then also, like, oh, I married Hizdar instead. Turn to page 63 because you married Hizdar, right? very fun different paths but also both of them are kind of dead

and it seems for her and her development she finds her true her true coupling at the end yeah this chapter who will get the rose who will get the rose at the great pyramid Barriston and the brazen beasts await her when she arrives Barrison warns her that he would prefer unsullied

instead of the brazen beasts because he says they're untried freedmen. The masks also hide a lot. He never knows today or tomorrow if it's the same person under the same mask, right? Like the owl mask is that the same owl mask as yesterday. And Danny's like, I have no choice but to trust them to build this new world with them in it. And you fret too much. Besides, you are the greatest fighter I've ever had.

It's also, I think, like, something felt interesting about, like, what they're pointing out about the masks and, like, how you can't trust, like, someone else could be underneath them. But even beyond that, because they're like, what face could be under the mask? And I'm like, well, you don't even know what person's under the face, too, because of the faceless bin. That's it. That's all. Anything could be happening at any time. And I guess the mask thing kind of does come to fruition with Quentin, because he's like, we're not really raisin bees. We're going to go die. Barreston. Dog. Dog. With glaucus. For a second, I thought you were being like dog. Don't say that.

You're just to call me your homie. Then I realized what we were doing. I would call you Big Dog if we were doing that. Big Dog. Oh, my God. What's up, Big Dog? Oh, God. Bereson tells her that Pretty Maris wishes to speak to her.

You can hear sirens, everyone. Claiming the tattered prince wanted to sway the wind blow into Danny, sending her secretly ahead. But the Dornishman betrayed them. Bersen says he doesn't really know that he believes it, but they'll join them for a price, allegedly. and that price is that the tattered prince wants pentos. Yeah. I love this line here that Danny thinks. Marine needed iron, not gold.

Yeah. Ooh, that's great, especially with all of the iron-born stuff that we're seeing, right? Paying the iron price versus paying the gold price, seeing that alongside Victorian on his mission to her and his fire arm. That's true, yeah, yeah. right to one bare arm. Very interesting. Like the focus there, don't have anything more eloquent or cohesive than that.

Just I think there's something going on there. You know, Marine needs a stroke of reality and not just paved in golden embezzlement as Hisdar would have it be, with all the secrets beneath the surface. And then we have this bit of

he would wait until they march for Westeros and thinks about Elirio, right? Danny's like, oh, I couldn't do that. I couldn't give Tatters pentos because of Illyrio. And I owe him. And I won't repay him and them by giving them a cell sword for their city. Embarrassing agrees with the ruling.

I think that's so interesting, considering I think this is exactly what she's going to do. Yeah. First of all. Second of all, because she's going to find out Illyrio's a piece of shit who betrayed her. And also, like, your boyfriend. friends of CellSword. So I don't know that it's going to be similar to the old bad show, but will she leave Dario in charge in one of these cities? Not Pentos necessarily. That might be Tatters in his group. I mean, it will be let's be real. But will Dario end up in charge somewhere?

Like, it kind of reminds me you were talking about Circe last chapter, right? And some of these ideas of leaving Cell Swords in charge or leaning on them. And I'm like, oh, but actually I think you might end up doing just that very thing yeah part of me even doesn't even know like we've discussed it will he like survive and then if he doesn't is that the catalyst you know for danny going also ape shit I don't know doesn't it make you want to go ape shit yeah yeah no that's what I love that meme you know what meme I'm talking about no I don't I don't know any memes I'll give it to you don't know any movies don't know any memes but um literally know memes are the only thing you know we've literally done an episode about this.

Yeah. So that's something that I wonder. But, yeah, the Iron Price thing. It is interesting because also like blood and also makes me think of Stannis stuff. Anyways, I also think it's interesting, like, because as you said, she's absolutely going to do that to Illyrio and Pentos because it's going to be dramatic and I'm excited. And also, like, I thought it stood out to me that she wonders,

But what if I never march for Westrose, then what happens to like Pence doesn't even everything? And also like the language here specifically she says like about like not repaying that debt by giving a city to some self-sword. The fact that she uses the language of repaying that debt obviously can mean fucking anything. But we do think of these as very tied to the language of the Lannister family, right? With like a Lannister always pays his debts. Tyrion loves to say it all the time. his story's going to intersect with her. And he likely might be one of the people who's able to disclose her.

Like, what do you mean? Illyrio has a whole other fucking Targaryen that he's, like, backing, who went to Westrose also with a golden company. They don't need gold, apparently, anyway. I feel like there's a lot of reference to them in the end of this chapter, too. I feel like they're here in spirit as well. I love that you've called out the language about Tyrion. Like, even also the language, it's, like, this would be his POV, right? like if he was here he would be next for being like yes my queen we should repay that dead

stroking his mustache so it's uh feels like something that we're going to see in the future more of when they're joined up and i did copy paste the meme for eliana of what i was speaking about which is daisy leaning into princess peach saying are you tired of being nice don't you want to go ape shit. But, like, the talk about the glory, right, and what it means die in glory and how the fighting pits represent that because like the fighting pits it is a true fight you can truly die in it right but in a way it's it's fabricated it's not true war or combat and it really reminds me and ties it back to some of those themes that were explored in the earlier parts of aswaf prior to like the war of the five kings all these like nights of summer itching for that war and for glory and then you know seeing where that all leads Yeah, I like that

The blood I mean this chapter is about blood Dude Yeah, it is For funsies But a battle I mean Look at all those guys with

anger issues From getting their heads dented And their football helmets I know a couple of them It's not great But it's like the broken man on speed Right? Like we're speed running

Because it has a fun phrase too. You know, like, one, two, three, four. I declare a thumb war of the five kings. I love a thumb war. I do that with my partner all the time. Really? That's sweet. Yeah, like, even just like casually, I'll be like, one, two, three, three.

And, like, I usually win because he's never ready, fucking bitch. But, and you can tell him, I said that. I would say even here, like, even as we start. this chapter, there is a strong evident of Drogon's feelings and Danny's feelings being connected. There's like this exhaustion and heat around them even as they get loaded, as she gets loaded under the palanquin. And it really makes you get into her mindset, right?

Like I can almost hear Hizdar saying all this bullshit to her. Like I can imagine being her loaded on this palanquin in the heat like dissociating half of the time like she's fatigued when drogan is drogan is when she is like they are one yeah they are one flesh more than he and danny more than his darned danny have ever been or will ever be one in flesh absolutely we'll get into that i know you have some stuff pointing that out too later on and a great drama leads their procession and they cheer danny when they see her across the very plaza where she once impaled 163 masters and she's like, she's like, is anyone thinking about this? Does anyone, like, think it's weird?

I mean, I'm proud of it, but yeah, exactly. Like, this is a game. Yeah. This is all a game in front of her. Doesn't anyone remember what I did here? Behind the drum marches, I'm doing it, girl. Yeah. Behind the drum marches, massed, brazen beasts, bearston, her blood riders, her maidens, and a bit back, the Dornish retinue. We also have, I don't know, this line from George. I'm like, ha, ha, ha, George. He goes, lions and tigers and bears, right? Oh my. Yeah, he's cute. He's cute. Danny hears the girls gossiping about who's going to win in the quote-unquote lists. She thinks they're used to death. Death rides with every calisar.

She then remembers her wedding to Drogo where men died while others made it and thinks life and death went hand in hand amongst the horse lords and a sprinkling of blood was thought to bless a marriage. Her new marriage would be drenched in blood, how blessed it would be. well so she did get married right recently in a chapter we did if you guys were here for all that and I was uh I was here during that they got married last chapter right but isn't this chapter the more exciting of the weddings isn't this the bigger red wedding of the two yeah there are a lot of beats that relate to red wedding here right the the drumming as we go through we get the boom boom boom of the drums. Yeah.

Yeah. The dissociative nature. Drogan arriving and like fucking eating and eating everyone. Yeah. This is a wedding, right? Bride of fire. Mother of three. Three fires you must light, et cetera, et cetera.

This chapter is a wedding of her and Drogon, right? It's a bonding. This is a dragon bonding. This is more exciting and bigger than the bonding she felt last chapter with his star. Like, could have condensed a couple. Yeah. But the drumbeats increased, and they come to an abrupt halt, which his dark questions, a palanquin lays in their path, its bearer collapsed, overcome by heat. Danny commands the collapsed man to be given food and water. And that's cool too. But in the Dothraki

culture, men and their horses go together. Yeah. This is a folly. Like, this right here is a folly before this is sorry like i'm not trying to get emotional but like now their souls will never be free together they don't get to gallop into the nightlands together and like that's like wrong like we like learned that was wrong we've learned that and i'm getting really upset i'm sorry give me a moment it's not right it's not right and like it's kind of meta to watch them have at first the dothraki had the advantage and then they get killed and is this a mini look at what's going to happen when the Dothraki come to Westeros, right? Like, are they going to at first have this advantage from horseback and whatever?

And then, like, the Westroatsy men and their fucking male and their Hobark male and they're, like, everything are going to, like, cut them down in their longswords. And it makes me really sad because we've humanized this. Yeah. I think we might see, like, both. And then to have something so, like, sanctified dishonored in public like oh look at my big hero and he's won each of these rounds in the joust or each of these rounds in the pits and having that one lofts like that is a very deep way to hurt someone or hurt an entire gathering or hurt an entire movement even to say like here's your thing lost like when I went to that fucking parade I thought the world could heal I was like holy shit If all these, like, millions of people downtown in Philadelphia who love the Eagles could come together, like, I don't know, protests, like, you know, the fucking, you know, what's happening to Palestine and Gaza. Like, if somebody could protest that with this many people, how could they say no to us? How could they ever say no? So, like, sports are really interesting because it's something that is so powerful. But at the same time, it's like it feels false in a lot of ways because of the way they've commercialized it.

And Danny is sitting here forced to watch that exact thing. She's forced to watch, like, as the people that follow her, that are great followers of her, their faith be destroyed on the sand. They are putting out, they're like, look at these Dothraki. Oh, now they're bleeding out in the sand and they're dead because they're weak and you're weak. That's not very affirming. That's not a way to keep people engaged in a low morality kind of scenario. So I find it very interesting.

Fascinating sports. I enjoy it. It does, like, it provides something, you know, for people. But at the same time, yeah, as you said, it's not, it's not like, sometimes it can have the capacity to move things forward, but it isn't necessarily that, you know. And, like, it's, again, it's, yeah, as you said, the bread and circuses of it all. Anyways, next comes a pair of jousting dwarfs. They're important to the story.

One is riding a hound, the other is riding a sow. Intriging. One wears Robert Barathe and stag. The other wears the lion of Lannister. Bellwass is like cackling, snorting at this by now with laughter. And Danny has a faint, forced smile on her face knowing this was made for her. She watches them tumble and chase her mounts until his dar says, now it's time to release the lions.

And she's like, what the fuck do you mean? release the lions? We talked about this. The fighters are going to be grown men who freely consent. These people are not freely consenting to fight lions, and she's like, you need to fucking stop.

Yeah, she says they have to stop, and also so earlier you were talking about, like, Amanda, the Palanquin, and, like, you know, them being like, oh, now they get paid for their charge torture and like not take but like they don't yeah it's all a farce turns out because they're like yeah i mean he's like obviously the dwarists and all these people and the follies like they all have to like get paid and eat right implying like implying that these wages are going to go towards

them eating and we know that's a lie because we have a pov of one of them we have tyrian tyrian's pov that explicitly shows wait no not paid definitely a slave explicitly so and it's like wait maybe like maybe all these people maybe they're all still fucking slaves right even without the thin veneer of like wages like without like even

pretending the sharecropping part of it like maybe that palanquin carrier sort of like oh no he was treated so nicely look they gave him water and treatment but I'm like what if they only told her that he was given aid what if they actually took her way to take him away to be like we're going to whip and kill him or whip and slash him

And she's like, no, it's a bad thing. And it's, you know, interesting because, like, from one view, especially with Tyrion, I think we'll get, like, a very intense view of Danny,

someone who's very direct in what her beliefs are and very much following those beliefs. And maybe unsympathetic in some ways, right? Like, very unyielding, very much like Stannis. But from another view, we're going to see a very sympathetic view of Danny. I think that's so compelling. Like, yeah, she's a dragon queen and she's this tiny, way, 14-year-old

that is Satan in the eyes of some people, but maybe not in others, as we're about to get into, right? It's going to be her Davos. Yeah, absolutely. Like, I'd follow her too. I'd get it if that was Davos-Dannis. And for a moment, Danny sees a flash of anger in his Dar's eyes.

It's, like, very small, very swift, but, oh, she sees it. He tells the pit master, no lions. and the pit master is like, well, they won't like that very much. And he's like, nope, bring Barsina out. She'll be the showstopper. Yeah, that was so telling. Like, that's kind of scary, right? Like, the flash of anger.

Like, we know, we know. It kind of gives away. His star is clearly benefiting from all of this somehow and is only pretending to acquiesce to Danny. Like, I mean, he would have to truly acquiesce her if she actually busted out the dragons, which she does and doesn't in this chapter. But, you know.

There's, like, a lot of Satan going on here. Like, he's Satan in a bad way. She's Satan in a good way, right? Like, she's, like, Lucifer, and he's, like, the devil. Did she really want to? I don't know. Anyways, the boar is pretty big. Danny wonders at the one that killed Robert Barathe and looked as fierce. No, it didn't have a stage. Resnock echoes the love for Barsina, telling Danny to wait until she sees Barsina dance with this boar. And Barsen comments,

she needs a spear that this is no way to fight a boar. feel like they're, I'm getting like hints of Brienne, you know, in Heron Hall here. The boar dances for a bit, you know, boar, bear, boar bear, I don't know, dances for a bit, but soon comes to a realization that if he charges, he's going to get hurt because they're like kind of like pigs and pigs are very smart. Bersina has the same realization and tries to provoke him and to attack her, but he doesn't. When she charges, relief comes just a bit too late. And so the boar opens her from her left leg, uh, from her cross.

to her knee, and she tries to hobble away, but the boar's on her. I thought this line really just, chilling, stood out to me. Danny turned her face away. Was that brave enough? She asked strong bell-loss, as a scream rang out across the sand. Fighting pigs is brave, but it is not brave to scream so loud. It hurts strong bell-loss in the ears. She's never going to give an inch.

If you give strong-bell-wass, a muffin he's going to ask to come in and lick the bowl uh glossing over strong bell loss obviously who's going through some other stuff though he is going some other stuff now it's crazy to watch him throughout this whole chapter in the background like it's so well done it's kind of incredible um but i love that she kind of like comes back to that i love that she's being petty about that was that brave enough oh you didn't think the women could be brave in this battle, Bellwess. How about that? She's fucking ripped open and bleeding out, and now

the boar wants to eat her guts. Like, how do you feel about that? But of course, Bellwoss has a tummy ache. I'm just kidding. I'm sorry. He's poisoned and he rubs his swollen belly. And he claims it makes him sick. I mean, like, even good poisoning is still poisoning

and does give a tummy ache. So it is a tummy ache. Oh, Barcina's out there with her fucking vagina to knee opened up, bleeding out gushing. But Belaw has a tummy ache. Okay, Aliana, I see where you're loyalties lie. I thought you were unhappy with the fact that you use the term tummy ache.

And I was like, no, I mean, it is a tummy ache. That is what I'm always happy to make fun of people that aren't real. The smell is more than Danny can stand. And the imagery here is great. She lifts her veil, which flutters away off of her. And then she takes off her tow car. Erie's like, what, what are you doing? And she's like, I'm taking off my floppy ears.

And then men are descending on the field to put the bore away. Yes. Basically, because Danny's like, I can't breathe. And, like, I'm trying to leave. And she's having a panic attack. She's having a panic attack. I'm obsessed because this is so, like, she's attaching her consciousness to drogan during this. Like, she's like, why can't I focus?

Why can't I breathe? Is it the heat? Is it the this? And, like, she's tearing her clothing off. She's getting rid of the to-car, the floppy ears, which obviously symbolic, but also because Drogon is coming. Like, oh, Lord, he's coming. And it also brings back, like, Red Wedding, make an end to it.

And then later with Wyman Mandirley with the Mummer's Farse is done. Like, she's returning to once she came. She's taking off the floppy ears. Like, she's about to be a fucking dragon. And she asks Barreson, she's like, can you take me to? my garden and everyone's like, what the fuck do you mean? Hisdar's like, what? This isn't even the end of the third quarter. Like, we still have at least 45 minutes to go until the refs make a bad call that puts us into overtime. What do you mean? And she's like, the garden, take me back. And I love that

because it's kind of the beginning, right? Like, the garden is the beginning. This is before everything was sparked before you taste the knowledge. In the words of cold play, she's going back to the start. Oh, yes, I guess so Just like Coldplay But as you said Going back to the start But even going back to what Like maybe where the lemon tree was

You know That as well Rip And she's like Yeah His dar She's trying to get his dar She's trying to get his dar

But And Eerie and Jiqui They are also in it They're still trying to bet and Danny says that here's how it's going to go. One will die one will not and whoever lives will die someday and she's like this was a mistake

which I mean yeah she's right it was a mistake we should not have reopened it and this line that one of the things that his door was saying when he's trying to control Danny into still staying is like close your eyes no one will see like if she just stays there as though she's like afraid of it all

like please and it's so down to me because it's not just about the fighting pits right it's not like she doesn't want to see the violence because she's sick and it's it's about everything you know just close your eyes to all of the injustice that I have allowed to happen in this place that you have taken and close your eyes to the slavery still persisting he's asking her to to have a quiet death but to still live you know basically like the broken man right no one no one will see yeah it reminds me a bit of brand brand one like you have to look or father will see that you didn't look right like the very opposite

of that, of the stark children being forced to look upon it. Or Sonsa, looking at her father's head and having to look away, like, looking at the pain and, like, grappling with the truth. And then you kind of have the Aria thing, right? Like, Aria just got her sight back. She was just blind, and now she can see. So Danny's kind of getting that idea of, like, her sight being played with them. I'm like, no, don't look, don't look.

But how could she not? How could she not, right? Meanwhile, in the background, Bellwoss is getting sicker and sicker, the most important part of this chapter, obviously, that Bellwoss is poisoned. He's like, I need milk. Meanwhile, his dar is like, no, no, don't turn the people of Marine away from you. They love you. They want you. And she's like, no, they want my floppy ears.

They don't want me. It's so good, right? Because she can hear everything going on during this time. We have this line of she could hear the boar snorting. the shouts of the spearmen, the crack of the pit master's whip. But this isn't from Danny. This is from Drogon. She's focusing in on her power via Drogon.

This isn't just from Danny. This is Danny becoming one with her dragon. And Hizdar begs her to stay. A shadow ripples across his face. And every single eye there, every head looks up. They look skyward and the sound of beating wings. Things, freezes, everything. Bellwoss falls to his knees.

He's moaning because we think about dragons, but like he's moaning because he's sick. And above, Drogon appears, he turns. He's dark against the sun. And we have this passage that his scales were black. His eyes and horns and spinal plates blood red. Ever the largest of her three in the wild, Drogon had grown larger still. His wings stretched 20 feet from tip to tip, black as jet.

He flapped them once as he swept back above the sands, and the sound was like a clap of thunder. Whoa. Thunder clap. The boar raised his head, snorting, and flame engulfed him. Black fire shot with red. Danny felt the wash of heat, 30 feet away. The beast's dying scream sounded almost human.

Oh, Drogon landed on the carcass and sank his claws into the smoking flesh. As he began to feed, he made no distinction between Barsena and the boar. Oh, gods, moaned Resnick. He's eating her! Oh, my God, the horror movie of that all. Oh, gods, he's eating her! That's a literal horror movie. movie. I'm obsessed. Go Drogon. Good for you. Eater. Eat her. It's, it's interesting. It's fun.

Like, it makes me think of like, it feels almost brand-coded because I'm like, oh, Coltian's was telling him it was pig. And I'm like, where's the pig from? Where are you getting pig from out here? Right? And pigs are basically just small, naked tusclous spores, but actually, and the no distinction between Bersina and the boar during the consumption, though, like, on Honestly, let's be real, the boar is probably more delicious because probably a little more fatty, even though it's like probably mostly as well, but like probably just more delicious than people. But yeah. He made no distinction.

I love that because it's like the coin ever flipping, the skin changing, the warging, the becoming one. Like no distinction happening between life or not. And like during this, to be fair, we're bell lost, not poisoned. I would forgive him for the puking all the same because, like, he's puking in the corner, his Dar's face, we see it turn part fear, part lust, part rapture. Danny can see the Paul's, house Pauls. They're running up the steps, clutching their tow cars,

tripping over their fringe while others are following them. Some run, some shove, some stay in their seats. One man, however, tries to be a hero, and he grabs his spear thinking he can kill the dragon, with the boar spear. Yeah. And I don't know. I thought, so many lines from the start, I'm like, what the fuck?

Like, was he just, like, very into all this beyond even, like, a, we have no TV or internet slash I'm trying to make a profit thing? Or, like, was he, like, actually quite into it in, like, an Ares very into watching, like, torture and people dying thing? It's so interesting you say that, because I was kind of thinking about this back when you brought up the parent thing, right? like Tywin who didn't want a dwarf or a son and abused him and neglected his children, right? Or like the idea of like what parents want versus what they get.

And there's almost something there like of the Aries watching people dying like in the the coin swiveling, the coin flipping in the air. And I think he was always cruel. I think you're right. I think he was always cruel. And does he bring out some of that, not necessarily that badness in Danny. she doesn't really find herself aligned with him, but he's there. And she said yes to him a lot.

There's something, something happening, something going on. Like, hmm. Yeah. I mean, also like, sorry, again, Aries was also very smooth, right? Like, his star was proven to be very smooth during this whole time. He was like, oh, my queen, I'm going to wash your feet at our wedding. By the way, slavery is back on. Danny and Drogon screamed as one. Wait, can I quickly... Killing. Can I quickly say something? Because Chloe's got a great thing here. But when we got here, maybe think of, like, the prophecy and all the dragons scream warred as one. Interesting. Oh, my God, Viceris.

The other one. Not Ryan Condal and Sarah Hess. We love them. I miss them. I want them to know that like, do you think they know I support them? I hope they do. I want them to know that I want them to keep making this show, whether

other people don't like it or not, because I do. If Ryan, Condal, and Sarah Hess have one fan, it is Chloe. If they have no fans, she is dead. I want them to know that like I would fight for their freedom to keep making this show. I would fight for it. I do.

So when we are deep embedded into a character, the things that are about that character really stick out. Danny and Drogon screamed as one. Look, if this was a different story, the guy who was becoming a hero to kill the dragon,

which sidebar yes a bunch of people are dying against this dragon that's a problem yes to us the human beings that are currently being hunted by this dragon like stupid why is this guy fighting the dragon he's going to die like idiot uh but also if i was there and this was my friend or my family being killed by the dragon yeah like maybe maybe i could see drogan and just like liking that he is eating humans. I could see myself aligned with a response here that the dragon eating humans is bad. I could sympathize a little bit. Like, I do want to call that out. I get it. I get it. Like, I'm sorry to this guy that got trampled in this chapter, too. Like, the Yung Kai guy, I really want to apologize. Like, all that said, I really understand it. Like, what a terrible tragedy. All that said, it's interesting in this book at the point that we're at, we're calling the people heroes.

I think of like the bravos in bravos that are the heroes of bravos, right? And they're like known for being swaggering and aha, I'm a bravo. Here's my sword. Or like here you have a hero who is grabbing his sword or the men that are up in the lists today are called heroes. We have a lot of heroes around this time. In the very last chapter, we have Theon, right, taking a literal leap to faith to save Jane and to reclaim part of himself.

A few chapters back. We have the John chapter where Alice and Sigourn are getting married and leaping to faith over the fire, quite literally. In a fairy tale story, the guy with the spear trying to kill the dragon to save his friends and family and whatever from the beast would be a hero. In a different story, he would be a hero. But that's not what this story is. To us, Danny is our hero. She climbs Drogon. We cheer Drogon on as he eats these motherfuckers.

because we've humanized the dragons through her eyes as her children. We have seen these dragons appear. We've seen them closely as familial to Denaries. Danny and Drogon are calling out as one. As Eliana said, the dragons roaring as one. Danny and Drogon are in pain as one. They feel together. They are together.

That changes it all. That changes exactly how you view this chapter. And I think that's incredible. I think that's fascinating. I think George R. Martin has done something so particularly astounding in this chapter by doing that, by having us connect to Danny, by having us connect to Drogon. Any different story, we would think that guy with the spear that's about to get yeated and eated is something interesting, something special.

But you know what? We're not in that story. We are in Deneerese's story. We are in the world of Deneres Targaryen. yes and i i love what you called out like of the language of like how it's hero and kind of like subverting it as well because i mean that is like they called him like the hero of marine back then right remember that guy who like went out there and fought and then did a bad job so yeah i don't know but i also like what you're saying like i mean if your friends and family were there

like yeah wouldn't you go out and try and fight the big giant monster to save them and get eaten yeah i would yeah yeah i mean like this is not what's actually happening but like it's like it's like the people who go and try and fight the mass murder you know like those people are fucking heroes but that was like a very spicy thing for me to say I'm sorry everyone like I didn't like anyway I was in I was in so in the end though drogan does eat him chom chom chom that that is how it ends uh who fuck heroes and his dar shouts to the spearmen to kill the beast and his dark tells her to look away while holding her tightly and she's like

what what the fuck i'm not going to let you like she's like i'm not looking away first of all i wasn't going to look away before second of all i'm definitely not looking away now that's my dragon like obviously i want him alive i thought you were all asking me to fucking use him this whole ass time and everyone's just confused i guess they're confused about life and what they want she escapes from his grasp and lands in the pit she loses a sandal which you know that that's so Cinderella and also like Sonda losing a shoe coated Sonsza 7 ASS yes Sonsa 7 ASS yeah Barriston calls after her Bellwoss is still vomiting don't forget

that's the main storyline and she's running faster while the men with the spears also run everyone's running towards the dragon smoke rises from Drogon's wound and he spits fire at the men closing it on him. Oh, does it just like cauterize itself? Interesting thing about biting at them, eating them. And here's like, what I think is really fun about this is if you think about it, because earlier she had to like fight and be like, don't fucking release the lions.

Like, when his story was like, wouldn't it be fun though to have like lions and the follies? Think of how entertaining it is, right? The Drogon is a reversal of the follies that were about to come. It is a version of the lions that were supposed to be loosed upon the dwarfs. And this is essentially what it means, right? This is what it means to face a bigger monster and to feel peril, to be trapped in Daznok's pit, to have no notice about like this surprise and to not consent to being there with a bigger animal. Because I mean, let's be real dragons.

They're kind of animals. So I'm just like, how does it feel? How does all that feel to be in this now folly for the nobles of Marine, for the nobles of Yonkai? Is this exciting? Is this tantalizing? Is it funny? Are we having fun? Are we having fun? When I saw some of the notes that you had written for this chapter, I just want you to know that I was giddy. I was giggling to myself kicking my feet like a little girl going, that's why she's my co-host. That's why we're best friends. When I saw you literally wrote, how does it feel? I was like, oh, Eliotta is getting their asses today. She's getting them because that's it. Just like incredible. Wow. You deserve a round of applause. If you're at home right now alone or with someone else, just start

clapping, it's going to be heard by Eliana around the world. It's heard by this man who walked by me to go to the gym in the hallway where I'm loitered. Maybe. Get games, son. Get your games. Maybe he should listen to Girls Gone Cannon. Has he thought about that? You know, the very first movie, you wouldn't know because you haven't seen that one either. But the very first movie, you know, they open it and they have like the train running at the screen and people are like oh my god the train's going to burst off the screen and kill us and I'm taking this and paraphrasing it for my roommate but this is like the train did come up the screen and did kill them like the train was like yeah bitch I am here yeah like it's here flapping its wings yeah this is an

insane chapter it's eating them at their fucking folly yeah George George 8 this is Danny 9 but I want you to know that George 8 and so did Drogon. George A. And so did Drogon. Amen. And that brings us to the final passage. Okay, this is the second to last passage. And we're going to start it now.

Drogan! She screamed. Drogon! His head turned. Smoke rose between his teeth. His blood was smoking, too, where it dripped upon the ground. He beat his wings again, sending up. a choking storm of scarlet sand. Danny stumbled into the red, into the hot red cloud, coughing.

He snapped. No, was all that she had time to say. No, not me. Don't you know me? The black teeth closed inches from her face. He meant to tear my head off. The sand was in her eyes. She stumbled over the pit master's corpse and fell upon her backside. Drogon roared. The sound. filled the pit. A furnace wind engulfed her. The dragon's long-scale neck stretched toward her. When his mouth opened, she could see bits of broken bone and charred flesh between his black teeth. His eyes were molten. I'm looking into hell, but I dare not look away. She had never been so certain of anything. If I run from him, he'll burn me and devour me. In Westeros, the sceptin spoke of seven hells and seven heavens,

but the seven kingdoms and their gods were far away. If she died here, Danny wondered, would the horse god of the Dothraki part the grass and claim her for his starry calisar? So she might ride the nightlands beside her sun and stars, or would the angry gods of geese and their harpies to seize her soul and drag her down to torment? I mean, the rest of like this chapter, this is the one that George kind of wanted to write from the beginning, you know, and as we've discussed many times throughout the Marinese plotline, I kind of read like the don't you know me. I read it as kind of like, no, it's me, don't you know me? Like kind of like the way that we would imagine, I don't know, it's many of the other people like when they see zombie person.

Like don't you know me? Don't you recognize me? But I mean, how can Dr. Oh, like Stoneheart. Yeah, yeah. But how can Drogon recognize her, you know? Like, she doesn't even know her. She doesn't recognize her.

Yeah. Quaith is like, do you know who you were? And like, I don't know. And, like, be a dragon. Be a dragon. Right. She's starting to find that. But there's also like this thing here with like Drogon's confusion and like his inability

to tell a friend from foe and the fear and the way that he's just lashing out at anyone. it makes me wonder like and in his heart like is this what we're going to see mirrored in denarius's character arc right like later in the stories she's betrayed like the lines between enemy and family they continue to blur right because basseri's hurt her enemy and family again with with phaian the martels who are technically related tierian tyrian and then eventually we don't know john don't you know him you rode him don't you know him i mean yes no good by what I said. And she'll turn, you know, against the people who do support her. Yeah. So that's something that I kind of feel like we're starting to see here of like what it means to be a dragon and what it means to lash out and hurt. But also Barrison trying to distract Rogan and be like, come at me.

Come at me. Instead and like trying to like sacrifice himself to save his queen. So sweet. He's so sweet but so fucking stupid. Like I love that about him. He's so brave and dumb. You realize if Aries O'Kart had lived, this is who he would become. Yeah, I guess.

But... Grandpa Hymbo. Yeah. Biersen's emotionally smart. I stand by it. Something you said kind of made me think about it with the Dothraki of like, also, this is what happens next chapter, right? The Calasar comes and claims her for the starry Calasar.

Like, they're like, no bitch, you were supposed to be with the other old bitches. or young bitches. We don't care. They might be like our age. They're not that old. These bitches may be really young, but you were a part of them. And nobody said old bitches, and we meant it. They're 20.

They're 14 and they're old. Oh, my God. Yeah. Something about that really made me think about that, though. So, like, clearly he's leaning to that next chapter. And then we have Drogon roaring full in her face. And she hears Barrison shouting, distract him. she sees this reflection and when will my reflection show but but but but but she sees her reflection

in his eyes and she sees how small and weak she looks and she's like no i can't let him see me afraid so she grabs the handle of the dead pitmaster's whip and she feels the leather warm and alive which kind of makes me wonder like does drogan feel the blood that once pumped in the cow or horse's body that provided this whip, you know, like how far does it go? We don't know. How far does the tree feel? So she grabs the whip and

Drogon roars and he snaps his teeth and she's like, no, get off the counter, Drogon. Just kidding. I have cats. It's literally the same thing, but like this entire chapter I want you to imagine it as a battle between me and Jaharis and Alassan as cat owner completely. So she swings

the lash of the whip at him until her arm aches and he hiss is out, he spits fire down at her, she hops around to avoid it. I have such a different connotation of the word pit master, a different definition. It's around barbecue, which maybe that's not dissimilar, actually, from right now. Anyways, so Danny uses the whip, which I think, I want to say, like, maybe it was who pointed it out back then, or C-Star, like on our Discord. Yeah, back then, and we're talking about the significance of it being the whip that saves

De Nere's life, like before, um, when the blood riders. And, you know, it is pointed that it's the symbol of slavery and she's using it upon Drogon, like the freedmen are her children. And so are the dragons. And yet she is using the tools of the master. Right. So I don't know. It feels pointed somehow. I don't really know what's going on here. Like that's the most you're going to get out of me in terms of this analysis because I'm running out of battery, like literally, I guess there's, is there an outlet here? I have my charger. Anyways, feels pointed. I don't know what's going on, but it's probably BDSM based on how the chapter ends. No, it's literally like the unleashing and taming of the D simultaneously, right? Like, she's in ecstasy, but not like, I get it. I've come

before so I totally understand it like she's becoming Drogon Drogon's becoming her and how does that mesh how does that work we do have this final passage I'll lead us into his wings beat and he his his his belly again this is just Jake and alley the black blood flows from the wound in his neck where the spear pierced him he is fire made flash she thought And so am I. Dineris vaulted onto the dragon's back, seized the spear, and ripped it out. The point was half melted, the iron red-hot glowing. She flung it aside.

Drogon twisted under her, his muscles rippling as he gathered his strength. The air was thick with sand. Danny could not see, she could not breathe, she could not think. The black wings cracked like thunder, and suddenly the scarlet sands were falling. away beneath her. Dizzy, Danny closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she glimpsed the mereneas beneath her through a haze of tears and dust, pouring up the steps and out into the streets. The lash was still in her hand. She flicked it against Drogon's neck and cried, Hire! Her other hand clutched at his scales, her fingers scrabbling for purchase.

Drogon's wide black wings beat the air. Danny could feel the heat of him between her thighs. Her heart felt as if it were about to burst. Yes, she thought, yes. Now, now do it. Take me. Take me fly. You're welcome.

Thank you. Thank you. I did it for all of you. I came live. Yeah, I mean, like... I skin changed. We basically, like, you know, took it from the ASMR and, like, kicked it up a notch, right? It was like that.

There's no song. Fire. No. But anyways, there's that. This chapter and this ending, it's a, it's a happy ending. It's the most important sex scene in the books. That's what this is. Yeah.

No, I mean, I do feel like we all just had sex. Was it together? I don't know, but we did just all come together. Not together, but together. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. No, it really is.

This is her skin-changing. This is her ecstasy. This is her big chapter. This is her moment. This is her flying high, comma, defying gravity. That is, that's what this is. And, like, as you said, her acceptance. Her acceptance.

It's a literal acceptance of wedding fire. Yeah, like bride of fire. Exactly. So. Yeah. It's crazy because then, like, again, we're going to come to 10 where it's kind of a little lower, but it's also very searching and seeking and, like, going through the psyche of it all and, like, what do I do? Do I really just, like, say, fuck it? What do I actually do? What's right here?

Like, how do I be right to who I am, but also be right to who my family is that I don't actually know because I'm trying to connect to them and, like, what do I fucking do? And she listens to the, you know, echoes in her head slash out of her head after she's shit. her body out, which I mean, I've done that before, so I can't really falter. But that's sad. Not always good. But be

a dragon. Like, I mean, that's what she'll take from it. So, and that is, I think, the bigger overarching message from the entire book for George with her was this slow, grueling battle to lead her to embracing

her nature, question mark. We don't know. Nature versus Nurture. a big question of the story. What is nature? What is nurture? And how does that affect or matter? You should ask them around you and see what they think. What do you think they think? Hey, do you guys like Denari's Targaryen? Hey, hey, can you guys talk? Yes, this is her big skin-changing moment really tells us a little bit about what to expect for that. But as you said, like she's finding herself and I mean it goes really well right but like the chapter but like this surrounds that one theon chapter that one reek chapter right where they they jump and both of them they're

starting to find themselves there's kind of that going on here identity that's a big one the last two chapters yeah well thank you everyone we finally got here we finally got to the chapter that was supposed to start off this entire book and Danny's POV in it.
