Hello, and welcome to Girls Gone Canon reads A Song of Ice and Fire episode 272.
10 in a dance with dragons, holy smokes.
I'm one of your hosts, Chloe.
And I'm another one of your host, Eliana, literally, holy smokes.
This is...
Literally.
This is our last Aswaffe episode of this year.
This is the last De Neri's published chapter of the past 14 to 15 years.
You don't have to say it like that.
You said it in a way with your whole chest that I was like, why did you say it like that?
Why did you just say it like that?
disrespectful. Well, I just, you know. She's right. I think I'm manifesting. It pains me to say it.
I don't know. I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know, but here's the thing. I was just talking to
my roommate who infamously co-hosts the great podcast, not a cast podcast, ASYAF. And he was saying,
you know, he got himself a pension book this year. Yeah, that's true. And a movie based
slash inspired off of a pension book via PTA.
Like, he's getting Avatar 3.
Oh, that's right.
The new one that's coming out.
I don't even know.
He's seeing it twice.
He has tickets already to see it twice.
Are you serious?
There are other.
That's what I learned.
That's what I learned over my sojourn the past few weeks that all of you were subjected to.
Yeah, I learned that they wanted to make an avatar movie of the blue people avatar for each
element and I'm like,
that's just greedy. I think y'all are trying to get on
that SEO shit, but
you know what? I hear the
second one, the T-WO-W one. I watched
that one and there's this great scene.
The way of water? No spoiler.
Yeah, T-Wo. And, you know,
T-Wal came out already, the second avatar.
What if we covered it? You didn't see T-W?
What if we covered it like that?
And called it T-W.
I think.
Oh!
We should do that.
Wait, no, you and I do need ideas. We've been
disgusting we've been brainstorming you guys and like now I'm like kind of I've kind of convinced myself
of it even though I've never watched the first movie in full I've only seen what if we watch
like the first well you would like it because it's like Pacific Rim ask I feel like it's a very
you I've seen them they're fine they're a fun blockbuster I just never got into them at the right
time so like I respect them I get it I like the spectacle but I think I just missed the boat
but I did like Tiwow like there was a um they kill there's a beautiful whale and like a whale
slaver gets killed and that's awesome like a poacher he gets fucking murked yeah exactly so same
thing but also what i'm saying is because of all these things that have come out this year like
our tea wow is next like there's another tea wow on the rise i know everyone thought that we were
going to cover probably we never said we were gonna but i feel like everyone by vibes thought we were
going to cover the other avatar but we're going to swerp and cover a the wrong avatar and be the wrong
you out at the same time. Maybe
it's the right
Avatar to be here. You're so right.
Whoa. Maybe the boys have something
going on.
Wait, are they covering it? I never really considered him being right.
No, but I mean, like, I meant fucking loves it, man.
He, like, loves Avatar. He's into it.
I didn't know that. Maybe. I don't know.
But you know what's great. Again, on that episode.
Oh, we could invite him.
Yeah, yeah.
Avatar 3 is Fire and Ash, so it fits into this episode.
Boom, brought it back.
Boom! That's a.
Segway.
It's called a Segway. Look it up.
Yeah.
Well, we're not here to talk about Avatar.
We're here to talk about Denarius.
But first, we're going to tell you what's coming up, because it is the holiday season, 2025.
Whatever holiday you believe in, it's coming.
It's coming fast.
The year is dying.
It's getting cold.
Maybe not if you're in a warm place.
But for those of us that experience winter weather, it's fucking cold.
Already.
Really hate it.
Last month for Thanksgiving, we,
did our second annual
Gossip Girls Gone Canon
Thanksgiving Feast
Spectacular. What that
entails is covering the magnificent
Archibalds, season two,
episode 11 from Gossip Girl, the
original iteration, but it also
entails a lot of other fun stuff,
talking about other shows
of Gossip Girls' era or of its genre,
chatting about the inspiration
behind episode titles from
season two, bullshitting,
but also like, education.
bullshiting. This is an educational
guess we made on a lot of stuff. So
exciting. Tune in. That's
Patrons $5.00 and up, Stranger Tier and Up.
This month,
Eliana, we are doing another
episode. We're finishing something else
for 2025, not just Danny.
We're finishing.
Maybe. Maybe. Sorry,
maybe that's premature to say that. I did
do a premature
button push earlier. I blew my
earlier. You guys won't hear it unless you're
the bloopers channel but uh yeah we are finishing up our coverage of the hunger games catching
fire the second book of the hunger games trilogy before i mean like next year we're gonna do oh my god
what an exciting time next year we're gonna do we're gonna mocking jay next year and then we also get
it's not also like we get to the skywalker on the rise aka sunrise on the reaping next year that's
It's going to be great, and I have to tell you, I reread it this weekend.
I really, actually enjoyed my reread.
Okay.
I'm fucked up, and I did cry, so there's that.
Thanks, Suzanne.
Glossing over Suzanne and her issues, because I did cry, got me this time.
There's this moment, no spoilers, but there's a song in another prequel that sung called
The Old There Before, and it gets brought up in like just tears, were leaking from my eyes.
It was terrible.
Sunrise on the Reaping was better on the second reread.
honestly. So if you've only read it once
and you were on the fence, I recommend the
second. I was able to put aside
some of my previous feelings
about it and just
experience it and enjoy it.
And also because of that, then I made
my household.
So roommate and cats, I
forced them to re-experience
all of the Hunger Games movies and
this morning I get to watch Ballad of Songwords
and snakes again
by myself, which was awesome
on the couch with my cat.
Blinkets. T-Boss S was great.
What are they on now if you made them do that this weekend?
Because I'm worried actually might have ended this weekend.
Oh, I own it.
I own it, baby girl.
I don't have to worry about it.
I own them in 4K.
I own them on DVD.
Have you heard of it?
I have a number.
Get in line.
I have a friend who has decided he's going to get into collecting CDs recently, not even vinyl.
Reach out to my husband, man.
You picked CDs.
I love CDs.
I do love CDs, actually.
I just thought it was fascinating.
But it's old school.
It's old school.
But preserve media, you know?
For real.
For roll.
Preserve it.
I love to hoard.
But yeah, loved the rewatch.
The Thanksgiving rewatch of Hungy Games was exceptional.
I really did appreciate it.
I will say I have some strong opinions.
They're on my letterboxed.
You guys can find that.
It's letterboxed users.
And look for Chloe underscore underscore.
But strong opinions.
Strong opinions.
I have to figure out where walking J is now.
Because I don't think.
Unless, like, I don't think...
We were watching it on HBO.
It's in the Google family.
If you were on my Google family...
I'm in a different Google.
It's there.
I might not be in that.
I don't know.
Anyways, the point is...
Huh.
Hmm.
I'm excited to finish the Hunger Games.
I was actually just thinking recently.
I was like, wow, can't wait to continue covering the Hunger Games.
And Loki, I forgot we were doing it this month.
So this is actually very exciting for me.
It's a gift for me.
No, no.
We're not covering Loki.
Oh, no, we're not.
Sorry, you said Loki and it was like a bad joke.
We're just not.
That's it.
Yeah.
But this month,
catching fire.
Going to finish it.
It's going to be really good.
And we have another announcement for patrons that are in the $10 and above tier.
That's the Thunder tier.
You can see Thunder coming to your screen soon, January 18th, actually.
But the Thunder tier on Patreon, they get access to Discord.
You can yap all day.
This yapping that we're doing right now, it happens online too.
So get it on the Yap Fest.
We have channels for everything.
There's a lively Night of the Seven Kingdoms channel
where we're all excited with TV spoilers going on.
There is a Hunger Games channel.
I spent all day with our dear friend egg
over from Sanry Scribble's world.
And we were talking about sunrise on the reaping
and T-Bossass and having a really gay old time.
So highly recommend joining the Discord.
You also get access to brunch slash happy hour
every single month we do brappy hour.
This month, what we're doing for brappy hour is a little different.
doing a power hour, Brapi hour.
December 28th, the time is TBA, up in the air we will let you know.
Somewhere in the usual realm, usually it's around 2 to 4 p.m. ET.
However, there's an asterisk.
We are going to do this for about an hour.
It's going to be kind of our end of year holiday, one hour party.
Usually we do two hours this month, taking a break, taking the hour off.
We are visiting family, families visiting us.
You know how holidays are.
They're happening, but I'm sure it'll go over in either direction.
Sometimes it does.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Maybe we'll have some party games.
You never know.
I had a really good idea for a brappy hour theme the other day for holidays, which is
like the gift and everybody has to bring, like, share their screen and show one thing
that is their gift they're bringing to the conversation today and talk about it.
Oh.
I thought you were talking about like Tyrion.
I'm.
I am though.
Like also.
Like he's the gift.
I'm the gifting.
See?
Okay.
I don't know.
I don't know if we'll execute it.
We briefly discussed it, discussed, but not really.
The gifted.
the show when we were talking on Gossip Girl.
But yeah, it is only one hour.
We call it a power hour, but please,
we are not actually going to take a shot every single minute.
You're not.
I don't think I can't.
But also, it is because, to quote,
a line from this episode, this chapter that we're going to come back to later on.
I was tired, Jora.
I was weary of war.
I wanted to rest, to laugh, to plant,
She's doing it.
I'm going to see them grow.
I am only a young girl.
Chloe's like, oh my God.
You're so right.
And anyway, anyway, that's it.
I'm glad you warmed up for later.
You got it warmed up.
You know, you've got to be ready for your line later.
She knows her line and so do you, folks.
So do you.
Okay, here's the big news.
The news you're waiting for, the holiday schedule.
What are you doing?
Everybody is waiting with anticipation.
They want to know what we're doing.
And here's what the streets are actually saying.
We're going to take a pause on Aeswaffe.
Eliana kind of foreshadowed that earlier.
The Asong of Ice and Fire reread episodes will return in 2026,
but they're not returning when you think they will.
They're going to return after Dunkin Egg.
If there's anything we've learned in her advanced age,
it's that doing both Aeswaffe and TV show in Westeros World,
in the same week depletes our creative stores.
Our chakras go totally unaligned.
It's very bad.
We throw ourselves downstairs.
I mean, it's just wild.
So we've learned our lesson.
We want to give you the best content you can get from us.
We want to give our 110% all the time, 200% of the time.
So with that in mind, you will get weekly episodes for Night of the Seven kingdoms leading
up to that.
Next week, we will be doing.
a catch-up and wrap-up episode where we read some of the fan mail and some of the comments
and threads that we've gotten throughout the year that we just haven't gotten to yet.
Again.
And any mail, any thoughts that you send in, please send them in the next couple of days.
We'll try to get to if we can.
Hopefully you can make it.
We'll also chat about what we're watching, what we're listening to, what we're reading.
You've heard a little bit of that in our fun little banter we do already.
But we're going to come back to it and do it kind of full-scale and chit-chat about different stuff.
also kind of puts a time around us to finish some shit,
some watching and reading and whatever.
So, I mean, Spotify rap is dropped today.
So this is kind of like our wrap.
That's an episode alone.
That's true.
It's an episode alone.
GGC wrapped.
And then what we will be doing for the rest of the year.
After this episode, we are going to put out one more episode that is new,
and that is going to be a redux, a revisit of our The Hedge Night episode that came
out many, many years ago when we've been much younger women.
This episode you may have seen on the Drunk A Song of Ice and Fire History YouTube channel
or listen to it from the Podbean or wherever you follow.
Drunk Acewaffe history, rest in pieces.
She's dead because it's not good to do content solely based around getting shit-faced.
It's just...
Moment of silence.
It's difficult.
It's not a good...
It's not sustainable.
Listen, we are actually...
It could come back.
But it turns out we are not only a young girl.
That's the problem.
We cannot do that.
I've learned it promotes binge drinking.
So.
Valid.
Yeah.
Once every few years.
Okay.
I'm going to tell you all this right now.
We're not revisiting that episode.
So if we say the exact same points, if we make some of the same points we ever did in the past, we don't know that we did that.
We don't know that we did that.
and you don't know that we did that.
It's...
But if you want to, like, nicely tell us, that's totally cool.
We'd love to hear your analysis of the two episodes, you know?
Like, maybe someone should do a big meta about what we believe then, what we believe now.
That's so 20-25 of us.
Oh, my God.
This is so live action.
Wow.
Yeah, this is so, like, we just did a live-action remake of these.
That was live action.
Yeah.
This is not live action.
Wow, it's the opposite.
Okay.
Well, live action, Dunkin Egg, coming to you soon.
Hedge Night. And of course, in the new year, we will finish that out. December 26th, January
2nd, no episodes. Go listen to the classics. Be with friends, family, whatever. I'll get some time off
from work. No, don't do it. Go listen to the OG. It'll take you like eight weeks. And that said,
we will return, finish out Hedge Night in 26. And then January 18th, we start Night of the Seven
Kingdoms. We're going to be doing that weekly. TBA on the day it's coming out, but it will be in the first
half-ish of the week, hopefully.
And not just that, but
when that's over,
Tyrion Lannister, it's time.
It is time
to get into Tyrion, or for
Tyrion to get into us, maybe into you,
into your heart, into your soul. We're going to be
in our evil era. We're going to
be evil little guys.
You guys, this is how I just realized,
this January 18th thing,
this is how I just realized that my friend's
wedding is on a Monday,
which probably got a good rate for it.
Makes sense.
Makes sense.
Wow.
Wow.
Sounds like a turn.
Her wedding's January 19th.
So.
She introduced me and my partner.
That's not Chloe.
Huge.
Yeah.
No.
Yeah.
No.
All right, gang.
That's the update.
So next week, catch up and wrap up.
Week after that, Hedge Night Part 1.
Couple weeks off for the holiday.
And we'll return 2026 to wrap up the Hedge Night
and start weekly.
Night of the Seven Kingdoms episodes
we'll figure out a way for that not to be like
the Hedge Knight that we'll have just covered also
yeah yeah we'll be fun oh that's true
we'll be part out it'll be fun it'll probably be a fun romp
I mean like they got it's giving medieval land fun time world
I'm so excited for that for you
me too got a couple of emails tweets of notes
a little bit of communication to share with you all
first thing I wanted to yell loud and
is our friend Weirwood Allen.
They said, honestly, justice for Grolio.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Tell a Leo Grolio.
I don't know if he's a Leo, but it's in his name, kind of.
Leo in my heart.
Yeah.
We hinted at this last episode.
Our friend Brenda reached out, who's currently in the 2020 era episodes, which...
Can you...
Wait, I'm sorry.
Can you all believe that was five years ago now?
No.
No, it's going too fast.
I'm so over it.
How is that even possible?
Like, that, like, I don't...
don't even know how it's been five years since 2020 anyways who were they it's not even that like
who's the fucking world like that's insane that it's been half a decade and who is it now who is it now
yeah life's fucked up i love this though like this was such a fun email to get and i'm always
wanting emails like this we actually have have been getting we've voiced this like a lot of more
comments and like things like and messages from people who are like in the past episodes commenting on past
episodes or like sending us emails now. So this one,
Brenda still in 2020, is asking, you know, future GDC. So like, congrats when you get
here. I assume you're going to listen to this episode because like, why would you not listen
to fucking Danny Ten and Addoida? Yeah. Ionic chapter. No, literally. So yeah, let's start.
First question here is, y'all are still so optimistic about T. Wow. Is that still the case?
It would be completely justified if it weren't the case. But I really do enjoy how often y'all
joke about it coming out next week. It's already out. Like, what do you mean?
What are you talking about?
It came out, girl.
Recovering it.
They're blue.
I'm like, yeah.
Slavers.
It's here.
It's here and it's time.
We just saw recovering it.
I'll answer this, honestly.
Like, I have feelings on this.
I do.
And mostly positive.
Like, I do feel, I feel like there is going to be T.
Wow.
Yes.
Now, I want to give you an anecdote that recently, I know a girl who finished The Rosefield by Philip Pullman, the final book in his prequel sequel, Sequel Sandwich trilogy, the sixth book of the main trilogies of his dark materials.
And without spoilers, it has some disappointing parts, and it's not even that it disappointed me in plot, because like, here's the thing, I love a freak.
George is kind of a freak.
I know that George will write what he needs to write to get his freak out.
And I respect an author or an artist who, even if folks may not like what he's done,
they fly their freak flag and do what they saw for it.
And there are some rumors that what I read may have had people managing it saying,
tone your freak down.
And I don't respect that, you know, like that sucks, especially what it implies, right,
because of the health and the age of the author.
But glossing over that, I mean, I think that's a big part of this series, too, right?
Like, I just don't think that George would put something out where A, his freak flag isn't flying.
And B, he wouldn't put something out that isn't aligned with his heart.
Like, because then what was the point of all the money and, like, selling everything off?
True.
Like, you know, like, I'm just saying, like, what was the point?
And he's not a person to me that I feel like we'll mess with that.
However, I don't know about the future.
I think he could do it
But I also am patient
I've moved on to read a lot of other things
We're always telling people read other books
It is sad I want the book
Obviously I want it right now
Me want book
Me Money book
But like
I don't know
I think it's gonna come out
Yeah
I want Adas
Same I remember you and I
Well I don't know
Yeah I think you and I said we would rather have
I remember we've had this discussion
I think we would rather
But, like, I do strongly, I can figure it out.
I do strongly believe in my heart we will get too well.
Like, I don't know if that's fucking stupid of me.
But, like, I believe it.
I believe it with all my heart.
I just don't know when other than, like, yesterday.
That's okay.
Yeah, it already came out.
It's under your chair.
Honestly, like, what if?
Like, when Brenda gets to this, like, that's what it took.
But anyways.
And that's why we say what we say every time.
Yeah.
Like, any moment could be, like, the time.
But yeah, with like
Briefly, I haven't like
Got into the Rosefield yet
But like I will say
I think he should have
As you said
I like what you said
I've switched my like
Commit to it
On the complete opposite
At end of the spectrum
I'm like
It could have worked
It could have worked
If he had committed to it
From the beginning
Be fucking freaky from the beginning
I
Be a freak
And that's why I'm like
I don't care
Like George do what your heart said
You should do
And just like fuck the rest
And here's the other thing
It's like not to be really controversial
Because it's controversial
To say this nowadays
I've heard in our community
at Thanksgiving
my partner's like basically step siblings
at Thanksgiving my partner's step
sibling was there with his partner
and they were like
so how is your community taking
the wins of winter not being out
they called it our community
we were like
it was very funny
but how is your community taking this
that I'm like well some people are little baby
bitches like I get having the vendetta
because your favorite author
hasn't put out your favorite book yet
but like get off
For it. Like, go do other things and move.
Like, we love the books. We cover them every week, but there are other facets in life than sitting online and complaining about how you're owed a book.
No one has owed anything in your life. If you feel that way, like, that's very silly.
Yeah.
It's like a silly thing to feel. But I get people want to express their frustration. I'm just, I just think it's silly. Move on.
I will say, like, I'm disappointed.
Yeah. And I mean that in every sense. Like, I mean that in like my Asian mom heart sense.
I'm disappointed in you
But also
But that's a good point
Like he should commit
What's the point of fucking fuck you money
If you don't say fuck you with your ending
Like and do whatever the fuck you want
That's a great point
And I believe he's gonna do it
Like that but you're absolutely
I think he's just concerned
And he should be right
He should be concerned about like his legacy
But George should be like concerned about his legacy
And I think he is concerned about his legacy
Being the guy who never finished
And that would drive me
Yeah
insane yeah no like that would drive me to finish that would drive me to finish yeah oh that's true
like in spite of i love i'm so driven by spite you love spite you i do all right next one so we have
another question yeah there's a lot of fire and blood talk brenda says because it was just released as you
started gdc oh what the fuck that's so funny but house of the dragon hasn't come up on the pod did
y'all enjoy that do you do recaps for it you're so close brenda keep going just just keep reading just keep reading just keep reading
Honestly, I'm surprised, like, you'll see it.
It's on your feed.
You'll see it.
Well, and what's kind of sweet when you get there, Brenda, I hope you're subscribed.
You should make sure you're subscribed so you get all these.
But what's kind of sweet is actually, here's some lore, just get you excited if you ever get there.
Eliana and I were living near each other during this time.
The first one, yeah.
The first season, yeah.
So we spent a lot of time together, and it was kind of beautiful.
And we were together for an episode of season two as well.
So it was kind of beautiful.
It was like a, it's a beautiful friendship story.
So get ready, because that's also what hot D is, right?
It's about friendship because they're roommates.
It is actually like that.
But I did, I consider just now the reason why I voiced,
I had the realization that my friend's wedding is on the 19th
is because as we were discussing the release date,
I was like, oh, fuck it.
Maybe I will, like, go to Philadelphia in the fucking winter
and visit for the premiere.
But now I can't.
Well, you can't.
That's okay.
I, like, as I, you guys have heard the significance of this person, I kind of do need to go to her wedding, so.
Yeah, but you know what?
Like, you could always visit later, like, when it's tropical out in March or something, so.
Yeah.
February, whenever it is.
Something, something.
You never know.
We'll figure it out.
Okay.
So, I guess, yeah, I'm not ready to start the His Dark Materials content, but have you covered
any other series so far?
Hold on, you guys.
I'm about to get a garlic bread.
This is so exciting.
Definitely, when you're ready, come to the His Dark Materials world.
We love that.
And there are tons of other series.
If you actually go to our Patreon,
patreon.com slash girls gone canon,
there is,
we have collections of different things that we've done like Sailor Moon,
Patreon episodes,
tons of Patreon bonus episodes that are covering other stories,
whether by George or someone else,
our Hunger Game series,
which there is a free preview episode up on our public.
But, of course,
the rest are for patrons only.
It's a patron only special series for now.
We have tons of, you know, novellas and different things we talk about, and shows and movies, do revenge.
We covered that one time that was a blast.
We're always covering a few random miscellaneous things.
Gossip Girls Gone Canon, our passion project.
I will say, like, I think our Sailor Min series is actually, like, available for the public, so that's there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we did put that out.
Yeah, we cover a bunch of random stuff.
It's not random.
It makes sense.
Well, and the next question that Brenda had was, what are the plans post-A-Swaff, which obviously more a-swaf because T-Wa is out.
But there is no end, we wanted to say.
But yeah, I think, I don't know, we're not there yet.
We're just kind of taken life by the horns and doing stuff together as we like to do stuff together.
You think there are a lot of other stories.
We always say, oh, we should cover that.
Oh, we should cover that.
So I think there's opportunity there, like the Farseer's trilogy, at least the first trilogy, if not more.
That's countless books.
Earthsea could be fun.
We could cover so much stuff.
Disc world.
This could never end.
We could do several episodes per book.
There's like 50 books.
Like,
could do anything.
We could.
I want to believe,
like maybe it's stupid.
Maybe like the new superstition is I have to not believe.
I don't fucking know.
But like,
we could be covering,
we could be covering the winter of winter right after Tyrion.
Yeah, it's going to take a year.
And if that were the case, like,
honestly, we have no idea how to organize it.
Like, do we, like, what if?
you know.
Yeah.
I don't think we're there yet, but we will be.
We will be.
Well, thank you so much, Brenda, for sending us this email.
This was fun.
I like a little glass from the past.
And now we're going to have a different kind of fun,
which is called the Lightning Round.
It's so big this time.
I'm so sorry, but it's actually short.
It's actually short.
This is everything that you missed between De Neri's 9 and DeNeres 10 in a dance with dragons,
and boy, is it a lot.
Devastating.
Devastating.

It's Acon's locked up.
Oh.
Locked up, they won't let me out.
I think I know this.
What?
They won't let her out.
She got locked up.
Okay, then do the Queen's Guard.

No.
Kind of seems bad,
now that I say it out loud.
Seems bad.
It does seem bad.
It really does.
We should revisit those, maybe.
I was thinking that could have been
our other episodes that we did.
That could have been interesting, actually.
Yeah.
I was going to be like,
do you want to do Barristan?
Because that would be a surprise, too,
to be like, we're not doing Tyrion,
we're doing Barristan, but we need it.
I guess we should, I don't know.
That could be his thing to do post-Tirian, I guess.
I don't know.
Who knows what'll happen?
I fucking don't.
That brings us here to the final.
published De Neri's chapter
Honestly I guess the final chapter
Stop saying
It doesn't sound like
It's not like we have the other published ones out
Like as samples
Anyways
Danny Ten in a dance with
Dragons
Once more
Denaries is reborn in fire and blood
In the Great Grass Sea
There is a lot of blood
Yeah there's a lot of blood
Danny had taken half a morning
to climb down the stony grass-grown hill
Her skin was raw and pink
But her burns were healing
She had taken to calling the hill
Dragonstone
She had no memories of the real dragonstone
But she did not think she would forget this one
All right
Come back to this a few times
But besides the imagery of the stony island
On the Sea of Green
Which in my opinion
The idea of it being surrounded by the green
Makes me think of the dance
even though I don't think George really had that all plotted out yet,
with the colors and stuff, maybe.
Yeah.
But it does kind of work a bit, like, in terms of the characterization
that's going on here, too, with, like, what's going on with Deneres and her body
and a bunch of stuff.
Like, you have this very lush, fertile ground all around.
The womb.
Yeah, like, implying life-giving in plants.
But then there's a barreness of the stone.
There's nothing growing on it.
Just, like, dragons planting no trees,
and probably Danny's womb also not.
but we'll get to that um
i always think it's important to call out here too that like
george said that denari surviving the funeral pyre was a one-off miracle
that's like in one of the so-speak martins and it is like ambiguous wording in that
SSM and like
she thinks of herself as potentially fireproof as we see in this chapter
but that's largely propagated by the show she also thinks that she can't get sick
and we see her shitting her brains out um
So we don't know it for sure, but like we have seen Targaryans who have died by fire, including dragon fire, right?
So the dragon isn't like the big part.
But Egg and his family, he's like, I'm going to play with fire, wildfire, and most likely many of them died during that in Summer Hall.
Rainira at the end of the dance.
that we're going to spoil this because I don't know.
I assume you guys know this.
It's in the histories.
She's crisped and eaten by her brother's dragon.
I don't know.
Why did I put crisps there?
Jesus Christ.
Was you hungry?
I might have been hungry when I wrote this.
When aren't you?
I know, right.
Lena Valerian in Hot House of the Dragon, also same deal.
But she wanted that, which ran near a mite in House of the Dragon.
And then, of course, we saw Viseries in Denarius's chapters earlier, who dies by
molten gold, which you
could argue is not a burn, but I mean, let's be real, that's
why he died. Like, when I put
like normal as gold unless it's like dropped
on my head, which
I don't have that volume of it in
my head anyways, but like so
would not die. That'd be sick,
right? Danny's
palms here, they are burned, right?
From holding the spear.
And
speaking of, like, I do actually like the description
of those burns, right? Like, they say
that the puss, leaking from it
is pale and milky, and I don't think it's supposed to sound cool,
but, like, it feels very aligned to me with some of the other elements in her story, right?
Like, this idea of, like, milk as sustenance, like, the lamin being, like, milky,
and then also, like, motherhood.
And as opposed to the pus being described as gross, even though it is.
Ooh, yeah.
Also, it, like, reminds me of, reminds me of the sticky princes.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know.
Something like that.
Also, I love this entire chapter structure.
Each chapter, the entire chapter, has been a whole journey and arc, right?
Like, we're starting right now at her remade dragonstone,
and her beginning to kind of accept the dragon part of her metaphorically.
I mean, like, remember, at the end of the last episode,
she was up in the air flying and, like, experiencing the first flight with her dragon,
and now it's all about, okay, but now what, right?
Like, we had the big sexual encounter in the air together
where we were one, but what happens after that time?
She's accepting Drogon as part of herself, right?
Metaphorically, she's accepting the dragon
and then, like, also quite literally,
Drogon and her are kind of becoming one in this chapter,
and also then accepting her roots, her heritage.
The chapter is, like, the taming of the dragon from start to finish.
and I love that it's her at first she starts she's trying to get back to Marine she's like okay if I follow this river I'll get back to Marine but she's quite literally lost right and then by chapter's end she finds her true purpose and direction the chapter becomes a rebirth in fire and blood and the great grass sea a rebirth at Dragonstone part one and then hopefully leading to maybe another birth at Dragonstone the real Dragonstone part two I like that you called out that it is
is happening here in the Great Grass Sea
because there's this element of like rebirth that tends to happen
it's almost a baptism right
being as she walks through the grasses
and then reemerges or like Venus going back into the sea
all the time getting her not Venus sorry Aphrodite is same thing
but getting her Hyman back it's like the exact same
that was like really that was really weird piece of lore
that they decided to write in but um
yeah that's true
yeah anyways um
but yeah so
we're gonna dig into like a lot of that and part of me is like is this a thing that I
I haven't like read Wicked in a very long time I haven't watched the movies yet or it's
musical and I'm like does she have sex in the air is that like are these the same Elphaba and
yeah denarius maybe I don't know as long as you're mine I just see people online going
Fierro
Be'erre
I don't actually know how the
I don't actually know how the tune's supposed to go
because I've only seen it happen on TikTok
So anyways
Oh my God, no.
Okay, so it's really funny that you're bringing that up though
Because no good deed is probably a Danny song in a lot of ways
And Danny is, and you and I have talked about this
Like Danny is a 90s heroin in a lot of ways
And so was AlphaBah in those books
She was a very like
Classic, a little bit of like rough around the edges
90s, heroin, that, you know,
Danny's a very 90s character, is all I'm saying.
Like, women can do things, too,
is what the 90s proved in fiction, I feel like.
Danny and Elfro both are about that.
You know, good things, bad things.
They're capable of anything, many things.
Redfish, bluefish.
Living long enough, or not long enough
to have everyone perceive you, I guess,
as the villain, which I guess is what happens also is...
Sometimes you live long enough.
See yourself become.
Is that what happens in the movies, too?
The villain.
I don't fucking know.
Yes, and.
Because people do think that, you know, like, that is kind of the point, right?
Because of, like, how the Wizard of Oz goes.
But anyway.
Yeah.
Thorny brush covered the lower slopes.
That's not part of the metaphor.
And higher up, amidst jagged rocks,
Drogan had made his lair in a shallow cave.
It smelled of ash.
Maybe even fire in ash.
Oh, Avatar 3.
that we're covering.
I mean, we actually legitimately might, but do it, should we skip one?
Brenda, write this down.
No, let's skip one.
Let's not even do one.
We're covering T.
Wow.
Yeah.
The trees and stones were scorched.
My husband is going to divorce me.
No, we're committed, we are committed to the bit, the one true marriage we could ever have.
The trees and stones were scorched and broken.
Burnt bones lay around it.
Yet it had been home to him.
Danny understood the lore of home.
the punch in the stomach right in the feelings
you know there's a lot of interesting reception of this chapter
because it's been out for so many years
it's a masterpiece first of all is the correct
it's the only correct interpretation
but there's a lot of reception because it's been out for so long
as the final chapter of the series and you know I think
I do think this has been like
meme to death of the
The more she shit, the more she drank, blah, blah, shitting chapter.
But also, it's like one of the biggest chapters.
I mean, like everybody shits.
Even girls shit.
Girls, they vows.
Oh my God, that's what they pointed out in the 90s.
They taught us, not only could girls be anything, girls could poop too.
Girls could poop.
And so, like, maybe that is this chapter.
But I just think, like, you have to get over that.
Pooping?
You'd be pooping, too, if you were drinking what she was drinking.
Disms for you?
But besides that, like, it's a huge chapter that is this huge transform.
formative piece about her and goes through so much. And, you know, commonly, you and I have
kind of, I think recently especially really discussed Quaith and how we feel about like what's up
with her. And like, you know, I feel really moved by the idea of the glass candle in Quayth. Like
that answers a lot of quayth for me. But also some of these dreams she's having and some of these
like hallucinations going on in this chapter. Part of me thinks it's Drogon. Like stay with me on
this, like, is Drogon speaking to her a lot of the time? Because a lot of that doubt building up
in her, like, is she just manifesting Drogon's feelings of, like, doubt and, like, are you
going to be a dragon mom? And turning them into something her brain can comprehend, you know,
like horror, like turning it into something you can actually comprehend, like, Quaith, because
that's what it's been before? Is that insane what I just said? No, it's like, it almost like,
it does feel like something I could see in one of Georgia's other short stories, too, you know?
Yeah.
because this entire chapter, I feel like, this time through at least,
mom, I chose to, like, look at it through the lens of she's learning to bond with Drogon
and Dragon Bond with Drogon.
And, like, they are one, especially later when he comes over her in the grass and shadows everything.
Like, he came because she felt she was threatened.
He felt that.
So, I mean, their pack is what I'm saying.
Like, they are pack, you know?
Like, we've watched the Starks have their moments with their little puppies.
And now she's having hers with her big puppy.
Yeah.
No, they're definitely connected.
And it's interesting to watch that deep in because later on she'll be like,
I didn't need the whip anymore.
He just kind of went very convenient that he went in that direction.
Yeah.
Was it convenient?
Or was it because he wanted it?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Crazy.
I don't know.
It's what I'm thinking of these days.
You know, thanks for listening.
That's what I'm thinking of.
That's the chap.
No, I'm just kidding.
Two days earlier, she had found a small stream that would lead to a larger one, and then to the Scahazodon.
And on to Slaver's Bay, she would rather return on Dragon Wing, but Drogon didn't want that.
Interesting language, Drogon did not want that.
She feels that he doesn't want to go back.
Wait a second.
Her deepest heart and desire, she's like, fuck that place.
And she doesn't either.
Yeah, they both don't want to go back.
Hmm.
We get a Lord Drop.
That feels significant now that I, like, said it out loud.
Like, whoa, like, Drogon didn't want to go, so she couldn't go because he wouldn't move.
But, like, you both don't remember who you are?
Remember you are?
Danny.
The voice.
We get a lore drop.
Dragon Lords controlled their dragons with binding spells and sorceress horns.
But Danny makes do with a whip and a word.
She is reminded of learning to ride a horse all over again and remembers whipping her silver mare on her right flank to push her to the left.
To the left, to the left.
That's the song of Ice and Fire.
And everything you are, and a dragon to the left.
In the closet, that's your stuff there.
I don't know if I know the other.
If you bought the book, please don't look.
I like love the song.
Can you talk and walk at the same time?
No.
My name of my Jackson.
I'll sing along to like the sounds, but.
Chloe knows this about me.
I'm very bad of the lyrics.
Um, now I've got me to find a man like you.
You've got me twisted.
Okay.
So.
I feel like this is another rebirth for DeNaris as well.
We just talked about it a little with the baptism thing and the grass, but like the idea of learning to ride again
it makes me think of like being returned to an earlier stage of life, right?
Like that's that's what she learned to do earlier on and she's having to like come back
and like get those kind of sea legs but air legs again.
And I think that is what this chapter is, right?
She loses her hair again.
It's like, she has multiple rebears, right?
Like, obviously the fucking funeral pyre was one.
But, you know, she's turning a new leaf as she starts doing the things that, like, Quaith tells her, like, do it.
Do it.
Do it.
Yeah.
I like that.
I do like, I like that.
I like Quaith as, like, the Ben-I-Jeserate.
Oh, I was thinking more like a weirdo being like, do it.
Oh, do it.
um dragons are different uh from from horsies that's true dragon uh drogon veers right he's like fuck this Beyonce shit um even though he should not feel that way he veers right when she hits right because this instinct is to attack not flee
hmm we have this line sometimes it did not seem to matter where she struck him though sometimes he went where he would and took her
with him neither whip nor words could turn drogan if he did not wish to be turned oh he's loafing
around drogan is loafing around the mention of the horns is interesting i've got a couple thoughts on this
there's the mention of the horns very interesting but then also victorian just came up with dragonbinder
right we did that you did that cute little line oh yeah dragon binder um so that feels significant like
that it's placed by itself here and then of course the horn in the north feel significant but
Also interesting that this is what Viseras had told her about dragons, right?
That, like, oh, many old Valerian lords did it this way.
They used a spell and a horn.
And she doesn't have to do that here.
And we've also seen many folks not do that in fire and blood, right?
Many Targaryans that just ride their dragon without doing like a blood sacrifice spell
or using this blood sacrifice horn.
So maybe the Lord Drop was propaganda.
Like, they figured out a way.
maybe it was just really old magic
and now maybe it's a hack for people
to use it but something's interesting there
I do think like there has to be I guess
some blood to at least birth
dragons but yeah
it doesn't seem like you necessarily need
it to maybe claim maybe maybe not
but yeah we never see any
horns we never see any like
spells really honestly could have been
kind of cool if they used horns I wonder what the tune
would be like you know
yeah real
it probably sounds like
Bum-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-dh anyways
Oh my god
Drogon is more annoyed by her whip than hurt
His scales are harder than horn
And each night he returns to their dragonstone
His home, but not hers, she thinks
They're just roommates
Her home is in Marine
With her husband and her lover
Keep walking
If I look back, I am lost
Mm-mm-mm, mm-mm
She carries memories with her
as she walks of, galloping horses, a silver moon, blue rivers, wondering if she'll ever see them again.
In the sky on Drogon, she feels whole, yet her children need her.
Drogon had bent to the whip, and so must she, returning to her husband, her lord husband, King Histar, and Marine.
That doesn't sound very fun or sexy.
No.
She thinks of Marine as being where she belongs because of her husband and lover, and I'm like, wait, hang on.
isn't your lover not in Marine right now, so don't worry.
Don't worry.
He's not even in Marine.
You don't got to go back there.
He's being held hostage someplace else.
It's fine.
But I do think, like, this is very interesting that she thinks it's where she belongs
because it's still anchoring that idea of where De Neri's belongs based on the men that she's
tied to as opposed to where she would will herself to go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's interesting that it's all based on them.
Huh.
And also, like you said, like, holy crap, she does not want.
to go to Marine. She hates going to
Marine. She hates being a Marine. She hates
her husband. She hates that entire
world that she's built herself into
those walls in. And
there's that great symbol of the whip in this chapter
right, that like in the beginning she uses it on
Drogon. It doesn't really seem to do much, but she does
use it. And then by the end
she loot like tosses the whip
aside, loses it and doesn't need the whip anymore.
And it's that symbol of
the harpy.
Yeah. She doesn't need
them anymore. Yeah.
I like that.
The bigger line here, the Drogon had bent before the whip, and so must she, she had to
don her crown again and return to her ebbin bench and the arms of her noble husband.
Like, is that?
It doesn't seem by the end of the chapter that's what she's going to do.
Yeah.
I mean...
Just saying.
Is there's just like, he's just kind of unremarkable, you know?
Like, it's been like a couple of chapters and after the last one, I'm like, he's just a guy.
Like, not in like a, you know.
he's harmless way but in a like
anyways
it's because they cast him as so attractive
in Game of Thrones
though I do like him in plebs
anyways
Danny's clothes are rags
and her under tunic serves as bandages
and she goes barefoot after losing a sandal
hmm very interesting that interests me
she lost it while in the air
the queen lost her sandal
oh that too I was thinking also
Cinderella and then also like remember
Sonsa loses
like Sonsa yes
Yep, Cinderella.
Hunger and cold.
I guess Drogon's kind of a carriage in a way, or a transformed mouse.
Um, he's gus-guss.
Hunger and cold better a little.
She would fly again.
She thinks a jiqui, eerie, and missande tending her.
She eats wild onions and reddish cabbage like plant.
Catches a fish and lives on Drogon scraps, but still needs more.
Honestly, impressive.
I'm impressed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Some Animal Crossing shit.
Good survivalism.
Start a museum in Dragonstone.
As Danny said in previous chapters, a queen doesn't belong to herself.
But as we see throughout the rest of the story, neither does any girl or woman, right?
They belong to someone else, to some, just like a guy.
And here, away from everyone else there, like, as she's resting, she removes all the rest of the trappings, right?
She belongs only to herself.
She doesn't have to be anyone.
She just is her and her dragon.
And it's a very masculine narrative, like, quote, quote, masculine, right?
We just see it a lot in, like, stories that are about, like, he's a man, he's a lone wolf, whatever.
And, like, you know, interestingly, she is more of a lone wolf than John, I would say, especially with this kind of narrative.
And, like, you know, you have, like, that man out on the frontier, the wilderness, it's just him and his horse or his dog.
They're just out there surviving, right?
But instead of a dog, or maybe it is still a dog.
This frail little girl and her big dog.
Clifford the big red dragon.
Yes.
And later it takes a turn and becomes something else when Quaith appears in all those memories.
It becomes like another important narrative around like important man.
Like Jesus, it reminds me of him and like his 40 days and 40 nights out in the desert.
Yeah.
Which I've also likened in a different way to the forsaken.
If you all ever want to read that sometimes.
she's greeted by multiple messengers instead of the devil but they are kind of tempting her like pushing her towards something right seize it sees the world um and in a moment she will have this imagery of her walking among the grass and finding that it's as tall as her which i kind that kind of struck me besides like that whole baptism part like she's always been above the grass because she's on fancy horses and even when like she was with a series right she's always been above the grass but metaphor
She was a princess, but here she has no title, she has no name, she can just be lost in the sea.
Ooh, I like that. Yeah. And maybe, I think there are some parallels with her and John for that, right?
In a lot of ways, you know, maybe more to come. You never know?
That boy's really lost. She, he's dead. That boy is, yeah, lost his life. Rip. Sucker.
She kicks a sheep's skull. Loser.
She kicks a sheep's skull down a hill and follows it.
She brushes through the grass and she feels autumn and winter approaching.
I feel that.
I have arthritis, so like I feel it.
I always feel it.
The dying grass reminds her of the Dothraki Sea when she was newly wed to Drogo.
Of her son, Rago, and of the joy that they all had together and it all died in the red waist.
After the calisar shattered, only her dragons kept her from becoming a crone at Vice Dothrax.
They're like 25.
Yeah, the Crohn's.
Chill dearies.
Some people say that about us and I'm like, we're 25.
I'm like, I'm only a young girl.
Anyways.
Wow, girls gone crone.
It's an interesting idea.
We should do it maybe one day.
We will because of how life works.
It's true, true.
We're committed to the bit.
Yeah.
Which is each other.
So, lo-key.
and also because I am just very brave
knowing that this chapter actually probably would have been
the second chapter in this book.
Maybe even like the first one if it goes together with like the Daznox Pit stuff.
I don't know.
And the first iteration of how George wrote everything.
All of this stuff, like all these reminders of all that what she went through,
it kind of makes sense as a recap episode.
Like, you know, George didn't necessarily expect most people to be like,
I'm going to go reread the whole series when this book came out.
so it's a good uh what you missed in danny's storyline when this uh book what an interesting show watcher
perspective you've brought up but it but but it kind of is though like if this were the second
chapter at the beginning of a book for this like it actually like it's it's makes sense and it's
also like it does also make sense structurally within this chapter because it sets the stage for
remember all these things she did with the doth rocky and how all these people fought and fell
apart here they are again yeah and it is a good reminder
because it was a while ago.
It was, you guys don't want to hear...
You don't want to hear me.
Anyway.
Anyway.
Yeah.
Danny also, we get the reminder of what happened in the pit.
She recalls the chaos of Dazanak's pit of flames and screams, shrinking below as Drogong had carried her away into the sky.
Slowly her hair grows back because hair grows back.
Wait a second.
That's a different chapter.
She loses her hair, you know, in all the fire and all the craziness.
she tries to weave a grass hat oh egg egg five uh vibes she tries to weave a grass hat and she fails
and she's like she's like you're the blood of the dragon you can make a hat it's very funny
cute uh and then she tries again fails again and she moves on until she goes and finds a thin
muddy stream she despairs and she thinks about how she's hoping she can be rescued by
barriston by her blood riders by his darryo yeah i mean speaking
of like tying herself to
I belong here because this man that I know
it belongs here like
girl you don't need rescue you got a fucking dragon
and that's what everyone's been telling you this whole book
you don't need anyone to rescue marine
use your dragons
and also
like you're talking about the chaos and Dasnax pit
and then like I don't know why this didn't come to mind
for me last chapter
maybe you actually brought it up
I'm thinking of the pit by mouse rat
I always sing that song
I know that's probably why it's in my head
I'm always singing the pit
I know
They went in the pit
That's what they sang
When they opened up Daznox pit
Dineri's amongst the memories
She recalls is like
A food cart spilling the melons
And it's giving like my cabbages
And my cabbages
I'm so glad you said this
Because I was thinking the same thing
It feels like that
And actually
Avatar would have come out
The other avatar of the
The last Airbender
Would have actually come out
before this, because that was, this was 2011.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Maybe, George, maybe.
I remember watching, yeah, the series finale of the first avatar in, like, 2008 or so.
So, there's this line here also that really, really speaks to me of, was that first flight
a thousand years ago?
And that's just me, looking back at 2025.
No, you're literally not wrong.
It feels.
It's been a really long life.
That way.
I can't believe that Brenda in this email was, like, 2020.
That was fine.
imagine who were we a thousand years ago five thousand years ago for a thousand years
a thousand more i'm finally learning about twilight you've been saying you're in that era are you
going to read the books no uh the books are actually not good but i like i feel like it'd be fast
but i feel like there's other also not good books i do want to read like yeah you have a lot on
your list so please don't start putting it up there and some of them are not good like i just
They just sound more enjoyable, not good ones for me.
I like that.
Yeah.
She thinks of Dario, hostage to the Yonkai, and she believes, well, my hostages should be free by now.
My hostages.
For my fellow hostages.
She kept her side of the deal, and she's like, well, I doubt, you know, Barriston seems to think that Dario would be out there being like, I fuck the queen.
But she's like, he's not stupid.
Like, in her head, she's like, I don't think he's foolish.
I don't think he would have done that, so hopefully he doesn't make himself a target.
The Yunkish, she thinks, should be marching home right now.
Huh.
About that.
I have very bad news about that.
They are not.
They're absolutely not doing that.
And also, they really never considered this because, like, oh my God, this could send her into her no good deed era.
I never wanted to think this, but I kind of think Dario might die.
I thought we discussed this.
We do think.
Like, I'm, I don't know.
I don't know who I was five years ago.
Oh, five years.
I don't know.
I feel like we've discussed it throughout, like, this whole, this whole thing.
And even during, when the fuck did we, when the fuck did we cover that Dario chapter?
I don't know.
Like, years ago.
But I feel like, I think he's going to die.
I'm kind of worried now.
Like, this especially, like, rate this moment, they're not going into it.
But we will get to where they do because they get into it.
And they're like, oh, in the Barrison chapters, like, oh, three of the hostages now are
release, but the other three, no, we won't do that except for the dragons. And so now you're
training the dragons for love. Like, she won't do that. She won't give up her children. She's
made that very clear. Honestly, like, is it better for Dario, like, let's think about, like,
the choices that Dario really has here, right? He has a choice of what happened to him in the show.
Yeah.
Where he gets into a breakup, and then he's left with the whole city, or he dies. Honestly,
dying is the better of those deals than being broken up with and left with, like, custody
In left of the city?
Yeah, that's fucked up.
That is weird.
Okay.
You know, like, I never really knew that about Danny, but now that you're telling me this,
I'm like, oh, I have the ick.
Danny, no, I'm just kidding.
Danny, why are you putting him into power like that?
messed up.
Okay.
It's like full custody.
Wow.
Absent mom.
Yeah, Rip.
In the words of, oh, my God.
I can't believe that user glass table girls called Danny an absent mom.
Listen.
Did you guys hear that?
No, I'm just kidding.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I'm just starting shit.
I mean, I don't actually have children, but it's kind of me.
Danny wonders if she should return to Drogon's Dragonstone, but she repeats,
if I look back, I am lost, and she keeps going, following the trickling stream with insects buzzing
and dragonflies drifting around her and also midges, little gnats attacking her.
And then there's this line, oh my God, once she came upon a rat drinking from the stream,
but it fled when she appeared, scurrying between the stalks to vanish in the high grass.
Eliana mentioned.
It's me.
Eliana was mentioned.
Wow.
That was off cute.
It's hey.
It's me.
Okay.
Adario?
There are layers here.
Onion.
She did eat those wild onions.
A bit before this, there's also the scene of her digging into the mud and just like squishing into it.
That's also very young Eliana coded.
But because of that, I'm like, shut the fuck up, Barrison.
She did want mud, too.
See?
Proof, proof.
But also...
You're out of control.
You're literally out of control.
You have to be stopped.
Also, I will say, like, maybe also Barrison...
She also squitches around in it later on.
She walks in and she's like, oh, how fun.
It feels good on my feet.
But this specific muddy water does make her sick.
So also take that Barriston.
Maybe months not what she needed.
You need to respect him.
We've talked about it.
about this. We need to have more respect for Barristan.
I do. And I think
I've, like, seen that now, especially
as we've discussed things. Because
we're in our advanced age?
Yeah. Spotify Rapp told me I'm 66
years old. Did it seriously? It told me
I was 42. I'm so glad I'm not as old
as you. My soul just weighs less than you
because my intentions are purer and truer.
I honestly was sad. I didn't say I was older.
I'm kind of jealous, actually. I don't want
to be like a decade old. I think that's fucked up.
Can't I be like a real age?
gap. I saw someone who had 70-something and maybe someone else who had 80 something. I'm like,
I guess they wouldn't tell you you're over 100 because I'm just like what happens then for some people,
but death. I want it to be older. Wait, is our age gap problematic on Spotify? We got to lean
into our freak flag. 42 and 60, whatever. Yeah, I guess we got a lean on when we met. Okay, listen.
Yeah. If you're 42, if you're 42 and I'm 66 and we just met and started dating, that's fine.
I was just a girl when we met. That's fine.
You took my virginity.
At 42.
Sorry.
Okay.
Well, I had a volatile youth.
Or maybe you went into the sea, bathed, and got it back, and then I took it.
This is getting a little too out of hand.
She's my Aphrodite.
Oh.
My God.
All righty, Aphrodite.
Sometimes Danny hears birds sing, and she's like, oh, I wish I could trap them and eat them.
And she thinks, once I dreamed of flying, and now I've flown and dream of stealing
eggs. That made her laugh.
Men are mad and gods are madder.
She told the grass, and the grass
murmured its agreement.
Yeah, get out there, girl. Get a little
kooky. You're crazy.
I love it.
She does. Good for her. Yeah, she does.
She was also thinking about
how, you know, we were discussing
this. Someone must at some point come to rescue her
surely, but as we know, like, no one really does.
Or at least, like, okay,
I just think no one's in a position to do
so right now.
Someone's held hostage.
His daughter is just like incapable and he doesn't
fucking care. Berson's trying to run the city.
You're like, we're like, I'm going on a joyride, peace out.
And yeah, I wonder if there's an aspect of the fact that no one
came for her that is going to grate on her later on.
Right? Like she doesn't trust them.
Yeah, like in the way that Tyrion feels very betrayed by like,
yeah, where is everyone? When he's in the cell until Jamie's finally like,
I'm busting you out.
And, but like, up until then, like, even to bust out, like, he at least wanted someone to speak to him from his family.
He wanted, like, that before the whole fucking thing.
Yeah, like, ever.
And the person who came was Oberyn, and he's like, I don't know that we're friends, but okay, this is the weirdest frenemieship I've ever had.
So, like, I wonder if that will, like, trigger another kind of, Etyrian-esque, like, where the fuck all world are you for her?
her. And in a way, I think, like, the wilderness, though, also the fact that she's able to just
truly be herself here and alone and, like, this journey she's going on, how she has a kind
of peace here up until she gets diarrhea. It feels like her version of John in the cave with
egret, right? Like, yeah. I thought that was interesting. And also how she keeps praying to find
a river to return home. And I didn't realize this until I reread this note of mine. I have it here
is like returning to the world of the living, almost like the way that Catlin's body follows
the river to become Lady Stoenhardt.
Now I'm thinking about it as like the river sticks.
Yeah.
I didn't think about that.
I was thinking like she's in the underworld.
She,
no, she absolutely is.
She is.
And she has to choose to be in the real world again.
That's why she's been for ghosts.
And how she returns to it.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
That's why all the ghosts are there.
She's literally swimming around in the underworld.
Oh, this chapter's so good.
Okay.
It's so good.
It's like insane.
And not just that, but like, I love that river imagery you brought up.
And then like, also.
No, I actually don't have anything.
It's just so fucking good.
Like, I can't stand it.
I also think like...
It's like a really good chapter.
Thanks, George.
Not that it's related, but not that it's not related.
Probably not because of the timing.
I have to check the exact timing.
But I was going to say, Licky Lee's, I Follow Rivers came out in 2011 also.
That's it.
That's it's like...
I follow...
Oh, that's a different one, but I know the song.
I like likely.
See, I don't know any fucking lyrics.
Uh-huh.
Baby, baby.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I know that song.
Cool.
I know exactly what she's talking about this time.
Love that.
Love it for me.
She had watched Drogon Hunt three times earlier that day.
His last pass had blotted out the sky with his giant wings.
Very cool, Belerian come again.
Before he vanished out to the east, evening comes quickly.
She stumbles into a low, ruined wall, and she sees some more ruins beyond.
Some mud and straw hovels that are all collapsed.
She shelters at the wall, and she makes a nest out of torn grass.
That's so real.
Ben there.
Let's me at a concert outside.
He's tearing grass up.
What's wrong with you?
You got to stop.
Stop fucking up the grass.
Danny.
Stop fucking up the grass, Chloe.
Oh, well.
She closes her eyes.
I do it for the people.
She closes her eyes and finds no sleep and instead thinks of Marine, of Dario, of his dar, of
Erie, Giqui, Missande, Bereson, Razzanack.
and skahas, guilt, guilt, guilt, guilt.
She wonders if Hizdar still holds the throne,
and then remembers about how he screamed for Drogon's death.
Yeah, we haven't forgotten that either.
B.T. Dubs. That was fucked up.
She thinks of Belwas puking and suddenly has the realization,
oh, he was poisoned.
And she's like, that was intended for me.
It was a poisoning plot against me.
And then she concludes, she's like,
Hizdar must have done it trying to kill me.
Who else could it be?
but also did he though
IDK because
I don't know that he did it's one of those
things that I think it serves the plot that
because I mean this comes up in the last
chapter with Barriston
that maybe someone was just trying to kill his
dar maybe not even her
so I would like to know the truth of that one but
we might never know it might be like a who told
situation this is the who told of the plot
I guess but also I think
the bigger part of this is
when people have
before constantly tried to kill you in poison
in you. It does become easy to believe
every attempt against
a life is an attempt against
yours. And
I don't know. I don't know if it was. I mean
his Dar, after his
fighter, his champion was struck
down by Barriston, he
under questioning, like, he folds pretty fast.
Like he's, I don't think it's him.
I don't think it's just him.
Honestly, like, I don't know
because on one hand, I'm also like,
clearly people get poison the weddings.
That's what happened in
ASOS, but...
Yeah.
Yeah, like, at the same time, it's so immediate that it probably has to be poison.
But at the same time, I'm also like, do we have an FDA in Marine?
Oh, my God.
No, it could just be bad, like, food.
It could have gone bad.
I don't know fucking, like, what the...
How you're supposed to keep, Locus.
Also, you know who I think it probably was?
The Green Grace is who it probably was.
It's a woman's weapon, right?
Even though we've never seen a woman use it
Yeah, that's not true
We saw Liza use it
On behalf of Peter
That's the thing
Like it's all on behalf of like
Someone else
Like usually a man
IDK
Even like
Even the poisoning of Joffrey
Right
I mean it was
Olena
Well that's by a woman
That's Olena
Yeah no I think it's still woman's weapon
This is a tangent
But it was so related to little finger
Anyways
Yeah
Because he was trying to get her out
I want to come back
Also to like the line
When you said men are mad
And gods are mader
And I'm like
I do want to talk about this because I think whether or not we like it, like this anxiety that De Neres has about it and the question of it starts like as early as book one.
She asks it in her final A Game of Thrones chapter, which very much, because of the way this book ended up shaking out, does work in dialogue with this chapter.
They're both these turning points, these rebirths for Dineries.
and all gods, all the loneliness that comes with godhood, yeah, that's going to fucking
great on someone's sanity.
We're in a fucking like issue with loneliness right now because of what happened in
2020, which apparently was five years ago.
And...
Stop.
You're fired.
I do think that this is something that George is very interested in, like how loneliness,
power and especially conviction, right?
This moral rigidity collide into something that can become twisted.
And by that I mean, you know, if any of you are familiar with it, really think about like the trajectory for how he lays these characters, that character arc in the lore for like Marica in Eldon Ring, which may or may not be from him, but it does feel aligned with some of his other work.
And then also for Mickelah and how he's very much a parallel and like mirror.
following in his mother's footsteps in the downloadable content.
Like both of these are that same expiration of what it means to shed all of like these other
things become just a solitary person with all of this power in the wholehearted belief
that you are doing the right thing and what that can lead you to do.
And I also want you to think about Gwen Delvino in Dying of the Light, fighting against
the role that's defined for her by her lover's culture.
and she's left with this very like ambiguous ending of like
this isn't necessarily truly freedom or happiness or joy that she finds
is this necessarily enlightenment but it is like free to an extent from the shackles
of like what else she would have been in but what is she now what does she become is it
and you know not to I don't want to use the word good because I think like we're asking
questions beyond that I do agree with that and there is sentiment out of
the dying of the lights
you know
pop a poem
of the don't go gentle
into that good night
rage rage
against the dying of the light
I mean that is kind of
what this entire chapter
is structured after really too
when you think about it with Danny
yeah
this is structured for her
to not go
yeah
dying of the light
she that's a great point
that is what that is what
dragons plant no trees is
it is to rage
yeah against the dying of the light
and on a later note
she's wondering like
I will say I love that each time the chapter keeps coming back to this beat of
she thought of Bairson, blah, blah, blah, blah. She thought of jiri, Iri, ghi, blah, blah. And it says
that multiple times, and it really shows, like, how long she's been out here, like, this very,
like, cyclical nature of how she's just ruminating upon all these things. So well done, actually.
You might think it's repetitive, but it's actually very well done to show, like, this thought
process, but. It provides, like, a rhythm. It provides a structure. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah. And she, this time, though, she's wondering if they will all think that, like, Drogon ate her. And I'm like, yes, they do all think that. They do think that.
Also, like, it'll be like Beauty and the Beast, right? Because where we've left off, it's, like, killed the Beast is what is happening in town right now. Everybody's, like, killed the Beast, kill the Beast. And, like, Barriston is like, yeah, they're not, like, wrong. But, like, also, no, that's her guys. I mean, I don't know. I feel weird about saying yes to that. It's kind of how he seems to feel.
but they are trying to kill him
Yeah, and then Bell is like
It's okay, I'm a furry
Honestly, she's actually the beast
Oh, though
Honestly, she was kind of rude
To everyone in that town
Calling them little people
Bahal Danny, take notes
Don't be doing that
Like little town, so little people
I might shut the fuck up
That's coming to Philly
I think I'm gonna see it when it comes
So Blair of her
I haven't, I've never seen Beauty in the Beast
on Broadway. I've seen Cinderella a long time ago, but I've never seen Beauty and the Beast
on Broadway. So I think I'm going to see it in Philly, which is like second Broadway.
It's not, but, you know, basically is. I'll have to report back. I'll do a whole episode for you
on it. I'll send you my Taylor Swift notes as you're on them. The voice notes. My mom's
friend recently did for karaoke. She did that song. She did all the voices. She was amazing.
Oh, that's incredible. We've both been doing some karaoke lately. And I'm really, I have respect
You know, I think my favorite one of the last few weeks that I heard was Camp Granada.
That was incredible.
It was literally so good.
Hello, Mother.
Hello, Father.
Oh, that would be a really fun one.
It was so funny.
This guy was hysterical.
I really respected him, quite honestly.
I respected the guy.
I sent you the video of him.
He did the Hamilton song.
Yes.
I respect anyone that gets their freak on at karaoke.
I think it should be about that.
It should be about that.
I agree.
Get your freak on.
That's a theme of this episode, too.
in the distance a wolf howls clearly john snow a lonely sound that also reminds her of hunger
she dreams that night the stars whispered quates riddle she saw her her mask bright as starlight
and heard her say remember who you are denaries the stars whispered in her voice the dragons know
do you do you do you do i have a quoth voice what would my quaint voice be did i ever do one
I don't know. I don't remember.
No, I don't really. I mean, all I can think of is, like, some haughty Italian voice.
That's fine. What I did was fine.
I'm just thinking, like, stars whispering quoth above you.
Oh, my God.
I will say, like, with this line, remember who you are, the Dragons Know Do You.
A, great parallels with Theon's chapter, of course.
But throughout this book and this chapter, it is giving that.
Throughout this book and this chapter, she thinks of how looking back will make her loss, right?
If I look back, I am lost.
That's become like a refrain throughout all these books.
But through this basically fever dream, she's probably got a fever based on her illness.
She's forced to look back, right?
With Viseries and Jora, it's very much the same as how Ned's fever dream forces him to relive memories.
And that's important.
I'll come back to that in a sec.
Right now, she's waking to ants crawling on her and kicking.
the dry grass aside. This has happened to me. It fucking sucks.
Kill myself.
Brushing them off the red bumps covering her. And also she has like not really much hair now.
So they're also biting her scalp, which sucks. And it's also burnt.
Her, she's got sunburn. Oh my God. I'm sorry. Like how do you think you're not going to get
burnt, but you have sunburned? I'm sorry. I'm done. Yeah. No, absolutely. Absolutely.
Good call on the Ned's fever dream, by the way. I really liked that.
Interesting language in this passage too about the ants. She like talks about them crawling up the wall,
aggressively and compares them to like toppling the wall in Westeros and there's a line about
it that just feels very cute and very pointed about toppling the wall cute I see you George
I see you yes and yeah yeah I do think I that does feel very as one might say long night
coded um oh my god and is one you in this scenario no you said it basically and most of
mentions of ants
for any of the Denary's storyline
turns out it's like in this chapter
maybe I should have looked up the word
just ant singular I don't know
but most of it is in this one and I wonder if it's not
just like about the wall as well
but also the whole thing of like
what happens when one is
so far up so far removed
from everyone on a metaphorical
sense but also literally in terms of
like when she is on dragon back
the horses are described as small as ants
but like there's a theme
There's a theme here.
What does it mean?
Yeah.
To become the others yourself, basically.
Yeah.
The isolation.
Isolation.
She watches the stars wondering if one is Caldrogo up on his fiery stallion and longs to lie down again, but she must keep following the stream.
She cups her hands and gets her muddy water concoction on once more.
The water again cramps her belly, but cramps are better than being thirsty.
Her moisture is running out
Her life's moisture
It's not great
Due is all she has left in the mornings
She's even starting to think of eating ants
You have this line very cute
I am lost at sea
She said as she limped along
Beside her meandering rivulet
So perhaps I'll find some crabs
Or a nice fat fish
Turns out
This is also very much her Davos
Post Blackwater on a rock with nothing
and also having an experience
religious kind of while starving in the sea,
but this was all literal sea and this is the Dothraki Sea.
But, like, it's the same.
It's the same.
No, it is.
It's the same.
Well, she finds a bush of green, hard berries,
and she decides that these are the berries the calis are used in roasts.
I do, like, language here.
It's actually implied that she, like, makes herself believe it,
so she doesn't necessarily believe that.
so she says it in order like to force herself to get some sort of any form of nutrition in her even if it might poison her which feels symbolic right of like drinking the poison to stay alive um kind of an interesting kind of concept in a way but she eats them and an hour later she falls sick growing up green slime the rest of the day she tells herself that if she stays here she'll die shout out nightshade or bella donna berries usually
when they're not yet ripe.
They are green.
Named, of course, for Atropos,
the Atropa Belladonna by Carl Linnaeus,
who wrote a bunch of stuff about plants,
about botany, about plant sexuality.
Yeah, baby.
Yeah, baby.
Austin Power's son.
I was like, whoa, what is this, your wedding?
Atropa, Belladana, Atropos.
The goddess Atropos was one of the three fates,
the one who cuts the cord.
actually. And she's the one that basically gets to determine how folks die. So kind of fun,
fun to throw this web together. It doesn't really mean anything, but I had fun thinking about it.
So I hope you do too. I do. I also like, there's something you said of like interesting there
of a ingesting the poison to stay alive. That is kind of a thing going on here. That's kind of her
arc, right? The whole book she's been doing that. She's been eating poison every chapter just to keep
moving. But she wasn't going anywhere.
She actually hasn't been fucking eating shit
This whole book
Yeah dude you're not wrong
You're not fucking wrong
So we have this line here
In Westeros
The dead of house Targaryen
Were given to the flames
But who would light her pyre here
My flesh will feed the wolves
And carrion crows
She thought sadly
And worms will burrow through my womb
Ooh
It reminds me at Arios chapter
Oh
Yeah
The worm.
I can think about that.
A worm.
Again,
she's dying.
She's dying.
She must be reborn.
She is risen.
She looks back at Dragonstone.
It's getting smaller in the distance.
Drogon has returned from hunting.
She can tell there's smoke going off at the quote-unquote dragonstone.
By sunset, she's shitting.
You know the fucking line.
Say the words.
You know your line.
And I know mine.
You guys know what's happening.
shitting. She returns to the stream to drink some more punishment water, and then she closes her eyes and dreams of Viceris. His face anguished, black and smoking from the burning molten gold. And we get a full force conversation with Force Ghost Viseris and Danny. All in her head, maybe it's real. Who's to say? Are you to say? No one knows. No one knows. All right. Respects paid to Glytus, you know?
Oh, yeah, I couldn't...
The best of a serious voice.
We could never...
We could never...
Everything we do, cheap imitation.
You were dead, Danny said.
Murdered.
Those lips never moved.
Somehow she could hear his voice whispering in her ear.
You never mourned me, sister.
It is hard to die unmoored.
I...
I loved you once.
Once.
He said so bitterly it made her shudder.
You...
We were supposed to be my wife to bear me children with silver hair and purple eyes to keep the blood of the dragon pure.
I took care of you.
I taught you who you were.
I fed you.
I sold our mother's crown to keep you fed.
You hurt me.
You frightened me.
Only when you woke the dragon.
I loved you.
You sold me.
You betrayed me.
No.
You were the betrayer.
You turned against me against your own blood.
They cheated them.
Your horsey husband and his stinking savages.
They were cheats and limes.
They promised me a golden crown and gave me this.
He touched the molten gold that was creeping down his face
and smoke rose from his finger.
You could have had your crown, Danny told him.
My son and stars would have won it for you if only you had waited.
I waited long enough.
I waited my whole life.
I was their king, their rightful king.
They laughed at me.
You should have stayed in Pentos with Magister Illyrio.
Caldrogo had to present me to the Dash Kalene,
but you did not have to ride with us.
That was your choice, your mistake.
Do you want to wake the dragon, you stupid little whore?
Drogo's calisar was mine.
I bought them from him.
A hundred thousand screamers.
I paid for them with your maidenhood.
You never understood Dothraki do not buy or sell.
They give gift and receive.
them if you had waited. I did wait. For my crown, for my throne, for you, all those years,
and all I ever got was a pot of molten gold. Why did they give the dragon's X to you? They should
have been mine. If I'd had a dragon, I would have taught the world the meaning of our words.
Viserius began to laugh until his jaw fell away from his face, smoking and blood and molten gold
ran from his mouth. When she woke, gasping, her thighs were slick with blood. For a moment,
she did not realize what it was. The world had just begun to lighten, and the tall grass rustled
softly in the wind. No, please let me sleep some more. I'm so tired.
We talked a lot about the relationship between Viseries and Denei's throughout our coverage
and the way that George is really bringing in a lot of, like,
Again, some of that ambiguity, how the lines between all the different roles get blurred of, like, who they're supposed to be.
And I love this one of, I taught you who you were.
And it's not true, right?
But it's such a powerful one of, like, I gave you, like, an identity.
And, like, in a way, De Neri's has kind of internalized a lot of this idea of her family history.
But he told her also things that were not her, right?
That you're just a weak little girl, you're nothing.
and she's found herself despite that.
But I don't know.
I think that there's something so toxic parent about that line that I love.
Yeah.
To quote an artist, Lord.
I knew it.
I knew it.
I made you God because it was all I knew how to do.
Yeah.
And then the next line, which also applied to some things you were saying about Denarius earlier
and I was going to say it, but I like really held my tongue.
And now I'm like, no, we're going to talk about Lord now.
Yeah, let's do it.
The next line, uh, I don't belong to anyone.
Mm-hmm.
I mean, it fits into here, too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then the very last line of that is, am I ever going to love again?
Which is also this.
Actually, that entire song, David by Lord.
Go listen to it.
Stream David now by Lord, because that's this chapter.
Wow, we're hitting all the classics in this chapter.
I'm so happy.
So you're going to talk more about some Circey stuff.
Spoilers foreshadowing
Later on
Yes, I am
But I love
The way that Viseries talks about this
Like I waited
I waited until it was my turn
I was Oded
It actually really makes me think
Of how Circe sees herself
And her regency and a Feast for Crows
And actually even rereading this
And her, him being like
Why were you, if I'd had the dragon
I would have done this
It also feels very much like
Sircy being like
If I had been born a man
I would have done all of these things
and made use of it like this.
So I kind of thought that was fun,
that there's a sort of echo in their emotional beats there.
This is not an insightful thing.
I mean, it's very real and relatable,
but Denary is thinking about her desire to sleep.
You'll recall earlier in the chapter,
actually, she's having trouble sleeping,
and it also makes me,
the language of it makes me even think of,
like, her last moments with Caldrogo
and, like, she wanted to sleep to sleep
and not to dream, which is an inversion of Hamlet's lines.
But also, like, this part is so real.
Like, if any of you have had really terrible explosive diarrhea or vomiting, it's so physically tiring.
It is so physically exhausting.
Exhausting to just shit and vomit the whole time.
Like, you're just staying in the bathroom for hours at a time.
Yeah, and, like, you're trying to have to come out.
Yeah, you're trying to, and you're, like, trying to tense your body.
And it's not a comfortable position to sit in, right?
And then you're dehydrated.
And also, if it's really very bad, you're still also not sleeping through a whole night.
You're waking up, like, every, like, very often to go vomit or shit.
Every few hours, yeah, if not every hour.
And then not just that, but then, like, the water, you put water in for that immediate relief.
And you're like, oh, it feels so good.
And then immediately comes back up five minutes later.
Yeah.
And you're like, guess I'll do it all over again.
And you just do that until it gets better.
Yeah.
That's literally it.
It's exhausting.
No, under, she's like, no, please, let me sleep some more.
I'm so tired.
It is so tiring.
Yeah.
Okay, that's all.
Not wrong.
Not wrong.
We're so happy to talk to you about shitting.
Wait, didn't we do that a lot for a few episodes ago for some reason?
I was like, what the fuck were we doing?
We stopped, remember, because we were saving the rest of it for right now,
so I'm glad we got into it because I didn't want that to be in vain.
I see, edging.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
There's a little bit of like,
ghosts of Christmas past, present, future going on in this chapter, right?
You start with the quave, then you have Viceris, and then you have Jora,
and, like, Jora kind of is saying what the future is in a lot of ways of choose fire and blood, right?
Present is like, Vesaris is like, look at your life, look at your choices, and Cache before is, like, you know,
look at your, look at your ancestry, look at your destiny, like you're destined, you're in the stars, you know.
So kind of very ghost of Christmas past, present future, fun, sleigh, tis tis the reason for the season.
And also in a Game of Thrones, we have a lot of similar language that's happening in these little subconscious sashes going on with Danny when she is dreaming about the eggs hatching.
And so it's kind of similar to what may have just happened here for her and that movement being, you know, the womb, the tomb, all the things happening.
here we'll talk about.
There's a lot of interesting stuff popping off.
Yeah, absolutely.
She's so Scrooge McDuck right now.
Anyways.
Beneath the Crescent Moon, she realizes that she's had her moon blood, quote, unquote.
She shivers violently, trying to rub her fingers clean in the dirt and use grass to clean between her legs.
Honestly, just free bleed, girl.
Like, who's going to see you out here?
Yeah.
She tries to remember her last blood, which had been at least a few months before.
I am the blood of the dragon
She told the grass aloud
Once
The grass whispered back
Until you change your dragons in the dark
Drogon killed a little girl
Her name was
Her name
Danny could not recall the child's name
That made her so sad
She would have cried if all her tears
Had not been burned away
I will never have a little girl
I was the mother of dragons
I am
The grass said
But you turned against your children
Wrong with you?
I like, what the fuck is wrong with you?
You're so weird.
You're so weird.
The cramping and the blisters grow worse.
She scoops up cool water in the chill of dawns, splashing her face and noting more blood on her tunic and thighs.
Moonblood.
It's only my moonblood.
But she didn't remember ever having such a heavy flow.
Could it be the water?
If it was the water, she was doomed.
she had to drink or die of thirst.
Okay, I think we're aligned, but, like, what do you make of this?
I think I'm aligned that, like, it seems like a very different period, and she missed it for a few months, and it's likely a miscarriage.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't think you miss, like, that many periods like that.
Like, I've missed some before from stress where I fucked up my pill.
Not in a, like, I'm pregnant way.
like in a it makes you skip it I don't think I'm very fertile and it's really sad too because she doesn't
necessarily have yeah same she doesn't so I have some rough periods going on in that endometriosis
ass barren pit in my pussy and you can leave that in but now you all know more about my
honestly that's like not as bad as us talking about all the poops so I mean I guess yeah they
call that shit the red waist oh happens to me once during that time yeah that
said that does make this chapter so much deeper on that level of a transformation of not only
her embracing drogan but embracing drogan in fire and blood as she processes her miscarriage this
entire time too and it makes this second half of the chapter her processing right as she's
walking along bleeding out almost like walking to the fate that was in store for her right in the
book one where she's supposed to go to Vice Dothraq with Josh Kaleen and she loses Rago and now
she has to walk that path back. And so now she's doing kind of similar, walking towards
the Dothraki as she kind of reckons with where she is and what's been blocking her in
Marine this entire time. I like that. I like that. Like there's very much a cleansing, not like the
coolest cleanse. This is the worst juice cleanse anyone's been through, probably. Jesus. But that is
kind of what's going on here. And like, yeah, I definitely think it's a miscarriage and not her
period. And I already went through all this like earlier on in our Danny coverage, but like,
I don't give a fuck anymore. Let my freak flag fly and that my flying bit is reiterating the
same points over and over again. Because this does not mean, this does not mean that she can
bear children, right? Conception and being pregnant and bearing a living child,
and even the womb coquickening, these are all different things,
which you can ask anyone who has had multiple miscarriages
and could never carry to term.
They will tell you these are different things.
There are many of them.
And also you can ask there are many women who have a period,
who have their menstruation,
who cannot get pregnant or like can and whatever,
and who also never bear a living child.
These are all different concepts.
That's all.
And there's also something interesting.
that I think fans focus on the wrong
thing as far as fan reception kind of is.
I don't think it
so twofold
very bold statement
that I just made, isn't it? I'm not here being
I mean, we're brave today.
I think the fans are wrong.
She said, Chloe said, Lise and Arbor
said. You actually say that kind
of often.
There are no men like us,
only us.
The worst. So
I do think that there's something
that's like a common misconception, like
Miriamazdoer's
little saying isn't necessarily
a prophecy.
Like, Caldrogo's not going to come back.
Like, that's the truth. Caldrogo's not
going to come back to life. And the
point of that is like what she's really
just saying is like, no, like, bitch,
it's not happening. It's not going to happen
for you. She's saying, fuck you.
And so because of that, though, people
are so obsessed with Ben, Danny's
womb, and whether or not
she's going to have a kid or not. And I'm
Like, that's not important, I don't feel, in this.
It is sad and it is a part of her character, but it's not like, that's not what it means and that's not the theory.
And there doesn't need to be theory, like, about whether or not.
Is it, okay, even also a hot, is it anti-feminist?
No, I'm joking.
I just don't understand why everybody's so fucking obsessed with her womb.
I'm like, Jesus, like, whatever she chooses to do in the story.
Yeah, Jesus.
I'm not.
What's up with that?
You guys are weirdos.
Like, stop talking about it.
Like, I don't...
The important part is, like, what it shapes her.
Like, I think of, like, Ranira and Vesnia, right?
And how that shaped her in her time of grief when her father dies.
And what that drives her to do versus what, you know, the enemy or the other faction is doing
and how that plays with itself.
And, like, I think that's more important of, like, how it informs her arc and story
and how she moves forward, which is the real element of the chapters that she chooses to
forward in a different direction than she was.
Yeah, absolutely.
Speaking of Vesnia, I think that's interesting because, like, she does say, like,
I will never have a little girl.
And I'm like, if you committed, you too could pick a different, like, you could go, like,
the madness rebe and mad scientist and make a Frankenstein child if you really wanted to
the way Vesanya did.
Interesting.
Different Vesania.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I like where you're headed to.
Good coverage on the Vesena.
Thank you.
You know, you're doing great from our resident.
We're doing great.
Wow.
Like the use of the crescent moon for telling time above and just like fun anecdotally,
like really not important, but I just like the moon.
So I'm going to talk about her because she's big and gay and French.
We love the La Loon.
La Loon.
She's gay and she's French.
La Loon.
So the Crescent moon, it's interesting because like a Crescent actually isn't like
a moon moon
like it's not like a type it's more
like a phase or a change of the moon
so crescent or
in crescent in croissant
is the waxing first quarter
wow the waxing first quarter
and then the waning part of it
is the day croissant
so a crescent moon
doesn't really represent like actual moon it represents
the change of the moon so
like if you're making a moon chart
clockwise you have that first quarter
waxing in croissant
new moon waning de croissant last quarter waning gibbis full moon and then waxing gibbis and then first quarter and it's
like a clock can we just go around and around so interesting that you have like the waxing and waning
and the growing and dying going on in this like i feel like that's just really fun that you have
the crescent moon is waxing now it is waning now it is dying and danny's dying too transformation
true yeah yeah it all goes together and i mean it's kind of a way it's
puts it in dialogue with brand stuff, right?
Yes, yes, I was thinking that with the timing.
Yeah, well said.
It also makes me think, I don't know, the Crescent, to me, sometimes in literature,
evokes the idea of a, like, a Cid, you know, a reaping, Scythe.
Oh.
Sighter.
Sighter, no, wait.
I love that, this voice is so high-pitched.
I love little Edward Cissor hands.
No, that's his evolution, Cizor.
So Danny
Commands herself to walk
Fevered and bleeding
But all she can do is stare at the empty blue sky
And the sun
She forces herself to take one step
Then another sobbing
Sam took another step
Following the stream
The mud feels good
Between her toes
And the water flows downhill
She thinks it will take her home
But like not really home
Because Marines not her home
And it never will be
First step is admitting it
Love this passage.
It was a city of strange men with strange gods and stranger hair of slavers wrapped in fringe to-cars where grace was earned through hoaring.
Butchery was art and dog was a delicacy.
Marine would always be the harpy city, and Denaries could not be a harpy.
Again, so much acceptance happening, like moments are happening here where she's starting to finally accept, like,
huh
maybe I can't do it
maybe I can't actually enact change
in that place
and maybe I just hate it
and I don't want to try
I think you can
it doesn't need to be the Harpy City
but yeah don't you're not going to be a harpy
don't be a harpy
be a dragon yeah
be a dragon do it with fire and blood then
kill him rip
we have then another
another of the many
fever dreams the ghosts of
Christmas whatever
never said the grass in the gruff tones of jora mormon you were warned your grace let this city be i said your war is in westrose i told you the voice was no more than a whisper yet somehow danie felt that he was walking just behind my bear she thought my old sweet bear who loved me and betrayed me she had
missed him so she wanted to see his ugly face to wrap her arms around him and press herself against his
chest but she knew that if she turned around sir jora would be gone i'm dreaming she said a walk
a waking dream a walking dream i'm alone and lost lost because you lingered in a place that you
were never meant to be murmured sir jora as softly as the wind
alone, because you sent me from your side.
You betrayed me.
You informed on me for gold.
For home.
Home was all I ever wanted.
And me.
You wanted me.
Danny had seen it in his eyes.
I did, the grass whispered sadly.
You kissed me.
I never said you could, but you did.
You sold me to my enemies,
but you meant it when you kissed me.
I gave you good counsel.
Save your spears and swords for the seven,
kingdoms, I told you. Leave Marine to the Maranese and go west, I said. You would not listen.
I had to take Marine or see my children starve along the march. Danny could still see the trail
of corpses she had left behind her, crossing the red waist. It was not a sight she wished to see again.
I had to take Marine, to feed my people. You took Marine, he told her. Yet still, you linger.
To be a queen. You are a queen.
Her bear said, in Westeros.
It is such a long way, she complained.
I was tired, Jora.
I was weary of war.
I wanted to rest, to laugh, to plant trees, and see them grow.
I am only a young girl.
No, you are the blood of the dragon.
The whispering was growing fainter as if Sir Jora was falling farther behind.
Dragons plat no trees.
Remember that.
Remember who you are.
What you are made to be.
Remember your word.
Fire and blood.
Wow.
So same setup, pretty much, you know, lots of accusatory shit back and forth, and then it fades out of the grass.
It's how these seem to be going for her, but I love this line, but she knew that if she turned around Sir Jora
would be gone.
Yes.
Orpheus, you're ready to see.
Orpheus.
I just saw that last night.
Oh, I saw.
I saw it.
I saw it for a second time.
I had won the local lottery, actually, so I only paid like $30 a ticket.
Nice.
It was awesome.
That's actually really good.
That's actually a really great price.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was actually thinking, like, rereading it like this.
And I think people have probably discussed it before, but it really hammers home the whole, like, kissing
and betraying Jora as a Judas, like, figure.
and her thinking it was for gold
where it was for Judas, it was silver, right?
20 pieces of silver or something.
Yeah.
We already said the line at the beginning of the episode.
We said it again here.
Such a good line, the I'm only a young girl.
Like, the construction of it.
I forgot if we've broken it down here before.
I'm sure other people have.
I know I did on Reddit like years ago,
way before 2020.
Jesus.
Oh, my God.
Log off, retire, bitch.
I know, right.
So old.
66 years old.
Jesus.
It's such a good punctuation to this book and Swem of Swords, which she opens every sentence with,
I'm only a young girl, but then downplays herself.
And this time it is its own statement.
Just, I am only a young girl.
And she claims it.
She truly claims it here.
And it's sad.
And you really see her there of like what it is.
Like, and she lets that be what it is instead of like.
using it to pretend and I don't know it's so good it's just so good and I also love that in front of it before she gets to I'm Only a young girl like we were talking a few episodes before and discussing like wow maybe it's as those I want statements that we discuss all the women uh POVs throughout song of vice and fire having like how they're never able to like truly finish the thing that they want they can never voice it aloud she's able to do so here
Because she lets herself reclaim being a girl, right?
She loses, you lose that ability.
Like, the story is saying that you lose the ability to articulate and to have the things
that you want when you're a woman.
It's erased from you.
And I think that it, I don't know.
This chapter's a masterpiece.
And also, I love that, you know, she thinks a few paragraphs earlier, right?
When we're talking about, like, I'm only young girl, like, she will never have a little
girl.
Not only will she never bear one.
She will never have a little girl in terms of I will never have a little girlhood.
I will never get to have been a little girl myself.
She's never had a childhood.
She will never be able to give that childhood to someone else that she wants so desperately to reclaim.
She will never be able to give that childhood back to Hasea.
She'll never be able to give that childhood back to Arroway.
These are all of the things that are collapsing in on themselves in one chapter.
She'll never be able to give that childhood back to DeNeres or to Drogon.
He grew up so fast.
I guess he was just a girl, too.
Yeah, kind of.
Mutable, baby.
Yeah.
They've been dragons.
We love them.
Honestly.
Better than imagine dragons.
Wow.
I understand.
I know.
I stand by a bet take, but nobody cancels for that one.
I'd be mad if that was the thing that people got mad at us for.
Oh, well, they're coming.
We don't like imagine dragons on this podcast.
They're fine.
It's just like I could listen to many other bands that exist that are good.
so she stumbles to her knees over a stone and she cries out
she notices the grass ahead is moving slightly and she's like that's the wind
but then she's like wait there's no wind everything is very gross and hot
she sees it move again and she's like get up get up dana you have to get up go follow the
stream the movement turns into a silver tinkling bell and she smiles she's like oh
it's drogo and his bells but then she thinks of mary mazdor's words and that he will never
returned to her. She decides
it must be her blood riders come for
her. Maybe Dario.
Girl, you are tripping. But instead
she finds an armed Dothraki scout.
She knows it best that he will send her
to the Dosh Killeen, or at worst
he will rape, kill, or enslave
her. But she's concealed in the grass.
He doesn't see her because he's distracted
by the giant flying
dragon. Overhead.
His horse wickers in fear, and
he wheels his mount around, racing
through the grass. And if I were
that writer, Danny wouldn't be the only one
shitting herself in this chapter.
Kind of nice to, like,
be able to see the effects of the dragons
IRL, huh? I know. Like, oh, this
is how they are perceived in
that's fun. Uh-oh. They only
get bigger. Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Uh-oh.
Also, wait, I don't
I don't know why she keeps thinking Dara's
gonna, I'm like, girl, you gave him away.
Dude, because she can't think straight
because she's shitting. That's true.
I also can't think straight when I'm just
shitting and vomiting. That's true.
Valid, valid. Exactly.
Okay. I'm like, she has food poisoning and she's
having a menty bee. Can you give her a fucking
break? What the fuck? Yeah.
The fuck, Eliana. It's messed up.
You gave him away.
Yeah, you did
trade his life for your country.
So there was that. That did happen to you, girl.
And bye to you, I mean to him.
When the scout disappears,
when he's good and gone, she calls
for Drogon until her voice is hoarse
and he finally comes back snorting plumes
of smoke and she mounts him
To go forward I must go back
she said
Her bare legs tightened around the dragon's neck
She kicked him and Drogon threw
himself into the sky
Her whip was gone so she used her hands and feet
and turned him north by east the way
the scout had gone
Drogon went willingly enough
Perhaps he smelled the rider's fear
Interesting
They're like hunting him like they are casually hunting him by the way
But it's what you were saying earlier, right?
Like, she's like, oh, perhaps he smelled the writer's fear.
It's like, no, you're doing this.
You're driving the car.
Yeah.
You guys are going to eat him.
Together.
Aw.
Her realizing to go forward, I must go back, right?
Which, again, this is exactly what this chapter is about.
She speaks to her ghosts.
She's looking back.
And therefore, she is no longer lost.
Because at the end, she's found, and not in, like,
an amazing grace kind of way.
Oh my God.
She's just literally not lost anymore.
What do you want me to say?
They fly over burnt ashen grass where Drogon had come once before.
And then a vast herd of horses appears below.
They turn and flee at the sight of the dragon, but they cannot fly.
And Drogon can.
So Drogon descends upon one and eats a horse that lags behind.
He has to eat him there because it's too heavy for Drogon to take back to his
fucking layer
he breaks the horses back
and then consumes it and Danny
whose starves slides down off Drogon
and she's like yeah fuck it
I'd be living that fuck it life
and she's like let's eat
yeah she's like
IKEA
yeah
she's ripping chunks of meat from the dead horse
wow they are beating a dead horse together
and I love that for them
and she's eating with her burnt
hands as blood is all
coming down her
and I have to
say, I very much love
as we're getting like this acceptance
of being a dragon
further sharing in the meat
this entire chapter.
It's kind of a wedding of her
and Drogon. It's like very much
a dragon bonding event. Like they're very
much bonding with one another on the
cerebral level and the spiritual level and like
IRL obviously. But this is like
Blood Brothers, right? Like you guys are
eating a horse together. Like this is
ritualistic in a way, right?
Is it a blood ritual in some aspects that you are binding drogan to yourself today while you're eating of the same horse?
I don't know.
There's something ritualistic about it.
And also, it's like becoming one from the same pack, right?
Like real farcier hours for our farcier fans in the house, but they are pack.
They are one.
That's what pack does for one another.
Oh, I thought you were just saying like they are pack because there's some legion or like sports thing.
No, no, it is a sport being a bluff.
My bad.
You got, yeah, you got to get into those.
You know, I'm glad you're not going to read Twilight yet because this is more important.
I don't think I said yet.
I have no intentions at the moment.
Like I said, yeah.
I also like that you, I knew that you were quoting something every time you say
We Are Pack.
I'm like, she's referencing something.
I don't know what.
Yeah.
Towards the end of like this chapter or two, and we'll like read it aloud later, but
let's just talk about it here, you know.
Danny, as she's eating this horse, she's, like, thinking that, like, his daughter would be horrified, but Dario would laugh, and he's someone who would sit and eat together with her, and he's, like, part of what she likes about Dario is he's someone who's just very fine with her wildness, like this side of her, like, she, where she gets to act for once, not like a queen, but a girl, and I'm just like, I'm just like, you know, who's someone else who would be very into, like, who would also tear into the horse meat and is also went into people who look a little ragged.
and just out there.
John, that's John's type, too.
Yeah.
Oh, that's true.
That's his type.
That's his type.
Not so we eat in the house.
Eight inch bagel.
Eight inch regal.
Eight inch regal.
Stop!
Also like a regal bagel, a little regal donut.
That's actually an interesting idea.
Not the regal bagel.
That's my type.
That's my type.
In Marine, I was a queen and silk nibbling
on stuffed dates and honey-lamp, she remembered.
What would my noble husband think if he could see me now?
His dar would be horrified, no doubt.
But Dario, Dario would laugh, carve off a hunk of horse meat with his a rock,
and squat down to eat beside her.
As the western sky turned the color of a blood bruise,
she heard the sound of approaching horses.
Danny Rose wiped her hands on her ragged under tunic
and went to stand beside her dragon.
That was how Kaljako found her,
when half a hundred mounted warriors emerged from the drifting smoke.
Whoa.
Amazing.
At least he's squatting down to eat beside her
and not to join her in the other activities of squatting.
Yeah, they shit together now, too.
That's real love, though, if you do.
I mean, who knows where the blood ends and the shit starts.
Yeah.
Truly.
Anyway.
Okay, no, I'm sad
I'm just sad that it's like
It's over
Don't be sad
It's over
Be happy that it happened
I'll sign your yearbook
My gosh
It is like kind of
It is the end of the year
Even though it's supposed to be before summer
As we go
I wish we had like
I'd have to think about like photos of us from every year
I don't even think we have it
I don't think I saw you this year.
Great Grassy.
We couldn't make a yearbook.
That's three of years.
It could still happen for us.
You don't know that.
You don't know.
It could still happen.
There are a lot of days left in the year.
That's true.
It really could.
Actually, you're right.
I could.
You just need to be believing, not hating.
Don't be a hater.
Let's talk about the end of this chapter and the chapter overall, okay?
Is that what you're into with me?
I'm into that.
The transformation is complete, right?
Where we end this chapter.
I think it's kind of fun because it's easy to forget where we actually end this chapter.
And to kind of compare some of the past Danny chapters, we do have Danny constantly commenting
through the books that no one could love a monster.
No one could love a dragon.
No one would ever love her.
That monsters and dragons can't plant trees.
They can't grow healthy, happy children, and people.
they cannot feed people.
The thing holding her back
from embracing the dragon was always that.
And, you know, we have
these lines that kind of come together
from Agat to a dance with dragons
where in Agat
she opened her arms to the fire,
embraced it, let it swallow her whole,
let it cleanse her and temper her
and scour her clean. She could
feel her flesh sear and blacken
and slough away. She could feel her blood boil
and turn to steam. And yet,
There was no pain.
She felt strong and new and fierce.
And when she's with Drogon in this chapter,
and in the last chapter,
she's also feeling like that.
He makes her feel stronger.
We have the line in Danny Nine.
He is fire made flesh, she thought, and so am I.
As we get through the chapter,
and she processes what's happened potentially
with her miscarriage, processing,
having no future with his dar,
no future with Marine,
that he will never love her,
and the people of Marine will never love her.
She will never love them.
And finally, the choice to stop fighting it, to become the dragon, become the monster, embrace the dragon.
And thusly, it brings us to that end of chapter in her position.
Drogon now comes at her need, at her desire, when she's in danger or when she just is lonely.
Drogon comes to her or comes and watches her.
Right?
So that's there.
She no longer needs a whip while riding him.
She has eaten and been an animal as one with Drogon.
And now there are thousands of mounted warriors surrounding her, swarming her, on their horses,
and in the middle is a man that she said in a clash of kings she would punish for his crimes for raping and killing women.
Zago is going to be right there.
And I have news for you.
The dragon is hungry and the dragon's ready for justice, for vengeance, whatever you want to fucking...
But for fire and blood.
call it for fire and blood.
She's be getting T-W
in a pretty crazy position, right?
Yeah, I so badly
want to know where it goes, and, like, it would
feel so good, and I think she's going to be, like,
it would feel so good, and she's going to do it, and I think
she should.
Let's do it.
I wonder if she, like, won't for a bit
just to hold off and get them to, like, lead her to
somewhere, and then she, like, goes
chomp, you know?
Yeah.
Because, like...
Maybe it's, like, a kneel or die.
Yeah.
Kind of event at Vase Dothrack in front of the big mountain.
Oh, yeah.
The mother's mountain.
It's got to be a spectacle, but...
I don't know.
Like, I don't know when it happens, but obviously it's going to happen.
It's going to be sick.
Yeah, sooner than later.
Well, I mean, it already happened.
Look under your chair.
Oh, true.
True.
True, bestie.
Brenda's going to get here, and then it's kind of actually be under her chair.
Holy fuck.
I really fucking hope so.
I think Brenda's getting here fast, so I really do hope that.
They always do, though.
what I mean like they always say they're like oh I'm slowly making my way through and then suddenly
they're like well I'm caught up I'm like okay can you fucking chill we're working on it it's a work in progress
just like us I want to contrast compare this especially because George has talked about how
Circe and Danny chapters he really wanted them to kind of have some contrasts in a dance with dragons
and be near one another and it really shows here right because Circe's last chapter was the walk
of Atonement, and it has a very similar arc.
You have Circe, who is
walking the streets. She is seeing
things that may not be there, right?
Guilt over Ned, guilt over Sonsa, guilt
over Malara.
And, yeah, absolutely.
There's a lot of guilt, a lot
of dealing with these things in her
subconscious that may or may not be there,
and coming out in kind of a current
altered state. You can even look at
the Sparrows and the Dothraki as similar
antagonists for both of the characters.
And of course, it ends with a
declaration of her getting vengeance, right? Changing direction. She says, I'm going to change
my fate. Like, yes. Oh, yes. But she hears about Robert Strong. And that's not dissimilar than
Danny. Yeah. That's very true, especially because, like, yeah, she was queen and then ends in a
position of like, well, I can't fucking do anything now. And that's essentially what happened to
Danny as she started getting married. She was a position of, I can't fucking do anything now. And
also like when you called out there of like
I hadn't thought about comparing it to
seriously seeing her guilt ghosts which again
she probably should feel guilty about those
and for denarius though it's interesting that she doesn't right
like she is just so shaped by these people who have caused her so much pain
and I think that's really sad but honestly
whether we like it or not
speaking of us being works in progress
some of the people who shape me are the ones who caused me the most pain
and yeah that's how we're
we react and learn to grow around those.
Yeah.
No, I agree.
That's character development.
Thanks.
I'm done developing.
You have character development.
Yeah, I'm good on developing.
I also think, like, yes, there are definitely some things for Circe where she should feel
those guilt.
It's interesting that the characters that DeNaris is subconsciously drawing out of her
thoughts, like Jora and Viseres, are people that are telling her she should.
should feel guilty, you know, they're the ones telling her, but also that's still from her.
That's a part of her that feels she should feel guilty. So, like, she's looking for absolution
overall in this chapter. Like, she's looking for the answer. She's looking to be absolved
in a lot of ways, and she's looking to embrace the dragon. We all want to be absolved.
And I love that you pointed that out, because we actually do see that tension in her chapters.
So we see it in her being like, I kind of, I'm like, I don't know if that was right,
that I sent her. She keeps me like, no, it was right.
It was right.
Yeah.
Validating herself.
Yeah.
When it came to Jora.
For Viseris, it doesn't linger as long, but there is like a split second of like the man who was her brother.
But like, you know, she's been running and kind of just boxing in that guilt.
compartmentalizing it all.
Yeah.
The entire time.
She even does that with, you know, the 160-something maesters, you know?
Masters.
You're right.
They're masters.
the 160 something like masters and uh
i just got used i'm like that's how we say the word now all the time
so just always maesters um just like actually sometimes i'll just say ser all the time instead
of sir um the maister by paul thomas anderson oh my god
master and commander um oh my god anyways yeah so she she does that and she's like yeah
it was right it was but she she's really kind of reckoning with that i like that and
part of it is like
you should
should she feel guilt should she not
I don't know but there isn't
there's a point in which someone in general
must own their actions the choices
that you make that's growing up
and maybe that means
like you realize
I'm not all good
maybe it means like as you're talking about this idea
of monstrosity
and I find that really important
part of it actually makes me think of
like some of the stuff our friend Lowe
would talk about in the context of like gender abominations because denaries absolutely is defying
gender expectations and roles right and also she might be sterile now and so what's the point
of a girl or a woman if you don't have a fucking working womb like what's your point you're an abomination
gender roles and she's transgressing as well into the realm of like violence and power she's trans
well the dragons are kind of yeah exactly mutable baby yeah they're like the sailor stars
in the original anime, in the 90s anime,
which Naoka Takeuchi did not want them to be.
But like, the changeable sex.
So the dragons fit into like what we're talking about
when we discuss like these sorts of themes and ideas
of that gender abomination and monstrosity,
how it's portrayed in here.
But it aligns her well with Tyrion's story, right?
Someone who's also called a monster who also is called an abomination,
who also is an outcast as well as like another term
low might say gender outcast, right?
Because Tyrion cannot fit into masculinity.
as someone who is not an able-bodied man
and like I think we see
this is her turn
this is her being Tyrion saying like
I wish I was the monster you all think I am
whatever kind of thing
which was a good line
and also like
that turning point of just embracing
that darkness
and that's what De Neri's is doing
here too right
like
and then also we have like the baby swap with the nickname
of that kid being called monster right now.
This idea of monster.
And John embracing being the monster there.
I mean, people are calling him an abomination as well for being a warg.
So like we're entering this era of the story in which that is coming to the forefront as a theme of like that that thin line between what is humanity, what is inhumanity and monstrosity.
And then what does it take to rule?
You know, like, is it an iron fist?
Are you allowed to be soft?
Are you allowed to be supple?
Do you break?
Are you unyielding?
Like, what is the answer?
Someone tell her the answer, you know?
And, like, I love you brought Tyrion up here because, yes, like, his entire arc, his entire...
Every chapter is about him being a monster.
He talks about being a monster like 20 times in the books.
Like, Taman in a clash of kings, when he sends him away during the Battle of the Blackwater, he thinks,
if she thinks me such a monster, I'll play the part for her.
and then of course the actual line during the trial the I wish I had enough poison for you all
you make me sorry that I am not the monster you would have me be yet there it is yes thank you
that's our monster that's our little lady Gaga monster yeah I mean yeah
incredible like album the fame monster which actually kind of really fits that was around this
era too monster ball and I see let's go yeah and but I like like that you called out what it
means in regards to like power etc because I do think there's something that
George is exploring here where perhaps he's equating godhood the isolation and power
that comes together with godhood with monstrosity right because these are both things that
are not therefore human and I see that you were talking about like what do you lose of
yourself and he actually does this assuming he's the one who wrote this part about
Mikala in
Eldon Ring
and Shadow of the Erd Tree of
Mickelah actually, I'm going to just
tell you this, Chloe.
Sheds different parts of his body.
He leaves his arm, he leaves his
foot, he leaves like different parts of his
body around, and then eventually he also like
takes, removes from himself
like another
aspect, and one of them is his love,
right, which becomes this other figure called
St. Trina,
who, you can meet elsewhere, but like,
just sheds all these different parts of himself
in order to ascend to godhood.
And I think...
Interesting, yeah, that's it, though.
Like, what are you willing to sacrifice?
Not just of everyone else, but of yourself.
And like...
Of yourself, yeah.
That is...
That is no longer human.
That is monster god.
Both.
That's power, violence, to the ability to do.
And I think...
Hmm.
Yeah, that's a big part of it.
How much are you willing to let go of yourself in order to take?
And then how much do you need left in order to rule well?
And it's also like how much of it is you and your choice?
How much of it is what everyone made of you and what you do within that story?
Because like per the quote that you pulled here.
Yeah.
What role...
Is it a part you'll play?
What other role do they give you to be if not this?
they never let that role be written
and also
again, banger of a chapter
a beautifully meditative one
that I think does a great job of balancing
like the quiet contemplation
and like communicating
that this is a very quiet moment for DeNaris
in a literal sense, right?
But it's very loud in her internal dialogue
as we can see
and she just keeps coming back to it
it's just her, the grass is talking
these whispers
And then it's also, yeah, this very Macbeth Hamlet Lear moment for her as you're like, Chloe had like a visceral reaction when I said Macbeth.
Yeah, you fucking said the words.
And she's talking to all these like, are they supernaturally here?
Are they not here, right?
And how that fits into her story as this, like, tragic sort of Shakespearean character.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Sing it, Eliana.
Did you know that Eliana wrote an essay about that, y'all?
Apparently, people don't, which surprised me as we went through this, so.
Open the schools.
Open the Song of Ice and Fire Schools.
Oh, my God.
That's what we've done.
Open the university, the Citadel.
Oh, I thought you're talking about Aswaffe University.
I was like, oh.
I was.
I was kind of, yeah, cute, right?
Cute.
Old school.
I went to one of those because I was 66.
Yeah.
Jesus.
All right.
I'm excited for Tyrion.
I'm actually very sad to add.
I am too.
Every chapter in Adawada
is actually a banger in my opinion.
I think it's a perfectly laid out arc.
I really, really love that.
Especially taking into consideration
like Barriston and Quentin, but.
I do think like,
she wasn't supposed to say this long, and I have qualms with the way
that George wrote it, but I do think a lot
of the Miranese arc makes
this chapter hit that
much harder.
Yeah. No, I do think so.
I'm, you know, we make a lot of opinions out loud all the time and just say things and who knows if I'll feel the same in like a year or a day or whatever.
I don't really fucking know, but I will say like, I think a lot of stuff is probably a feature and not a bug.
I think there'll be a way stuff works out good and bad.
I mean, that's just how stories go.
Yeah.
I can't be all butterflies and daisies.
like it's not a
it's not like a tea time activity
you know ending slavery
and liberating folks so
it can be I guess it just depends
on who you are but I don't know
I just think like there's going to be trials and tribulations
ahead for every character
right like I mean
we end pretty darkly with a lot of these characters
that are set up for the future like
they're all facing a lot of
crazy choices like Sonsa is facing
you know poisoning her cousin
in order to follow little fingers
like orders.
Aria is with the
murderers and T-WOW spoilers.
Who knows what's going to happen there? Because things seem
intense. So you see, as we just said,
is like, oh, she's about to girl boss
so hard with
Robert Strong as her second
co-girl boss.
Honorary co-girl boss.
You have all these characters, though, that are like at this
prospect and at this kind of like point
where they have to make some kind of crazy
choices to move the plot along
above all things. For the whole story,
to keep moving along to get to some new places.
And I think Danny's no stranger to that neat, right?
She needs something to kick her into gear.
And that's what the entire arc in this book was really leading to was her embracing who she is
and figuring out who she is because she's never had the opportunity to do so.
Yeah.
Honestly, I was thinking about it as we were, as I was doing in the notes for this and looking back on it,
I'm like, I don't know if this chapter and like Daznox Pit, I don't know if it would have
like even felt like it meant anything if we didn't have at least a couple of those like
chapters of Herd Marine like I can't imagine how the book and goes straight from her being like
I'm going to stay here to be like I'm flying off in Doznax Pit. Like it doesn't feel the same as a
character arc. Yeah. No, absolutely. You need it. You need a good resting place in the middle. You
need to be able to start at the beginning and then you need to be able to finish it off sharp like this.
So, I don't know.
I'm a fan of, like, following the journey now.
When I first started reading the books, I do remember being like, Danny and Marine, I don't care.
Because it was like 2014, 2015, and I hadn't fully developed yet.
You know, that's what happens when you're a teenager then.
And my thoughts were still forming.
They're still forming because I'm still a teenager.
I'm just a girl.
But because of that, like, I remember being like, I don't like these chapters.
They're boring.
But it was also, like, maybe I just didn't.
I know.
This is, I'm being very vulnerable with you, so don't say anything.
I mean, it's...
I had to learn, though, to like them.
And, like, on reread, I see what they're doing.
And honestly, whenever I feel that way, I do always feel like when I'm being narrow-minded
if I don't like a certain section of a book, on a reread, I come to appreciate it more.
I find its way.
It's usually a very initial jerk reaction.
And I also find I often feel that way if I don't understand it, which is, like, a knee-jerk reaction
that we all often can do with things, right?
So it's good to, like, re-embrace it, to read it.
this way to feel the arc, especially in relation to Tyrion, who's going to follow a pretty
similar arc in some ways.
That was a good preamble and set up and segue, part one segue into Tyrion.
I think we're doing, we've been doing this for a while.
I think we're getting good at this.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Yeah, let's not do that.
But, um, thank you so much for listening to the Tenerys chapters.
I'm going to miss her in those dragons, but she'll be back in Tewa.
One of the best written characters in the whole series.
Yeah, she really is.
Good job, George.
