Hello and welcome to Girls Gone Canon watches House of the Dragon season two episode 10,
Hirstery, also known as Queens Landing.
I'm one of your hosts, Chloe.
And I'm another one of your host, Eliana.
And yeah, I'm really excited to be here to discuss the season two finale.
Herstery.
Herstery.
Or, I don't know, I actually do, like, agree with the take of, like, I don't know.
Why not Rainier a Triumphant?
That actually would have hit, but it's okay.
It was right there
It was right there
No, they can put this one on the shelf
With the queen who ever was
Hey, I know that I am a fan of this show
Okay, and once in a while
I might glaze it a little bit
However, I know when to criticize it as well
I do, I do
Silly, silly title
Just FYI, if you're here
This is a Spoilers All podcast
We're going to talk about everything from
the entirety of fire and blood.
So if you don't know how this specific series ends,
turned back, we're also going to talk about a song of ice and fire in its fullness
and the maybe winds of winter.
I don't know.
Like, whatever's out there, we're going to talk about it.
In its fullness, but not its completeness.
There's that.
There is that.
Eliana, you had something really, I think, really important to open this episode with.
Yeah, so we had to give you that spoiler policy because this would
be a spoiler, this tweet. I really wanted to share it with everyone.
So someone even took the screenshot of that tweet so everyone could see them together.
You know, Fuds and Foll, which also kind of like, is this a Kristen Cole reference of a
username? Says, fuck, the Game of Thrones Dragon Show killed off its only hot twink. And then
Bacon Targaryen responded with Otto High Tower. And that killed me. But someone else pointed
and out there like, no, no, they meant Simon Strong.
What a way to close out pride.
What a way to close out pride.
Oh, man.
I love those responses.
Two and one.
I know.
The internet is back alive.
Offline, you and I were just discussing how the internet's back.
It's alive with the sound of House of the Dragons.
It's great.
And we're going to be bringing you something else to liven up the internet this month.
Well, that is if you're a patron over at Patreon.
com slash girls gone canon C-A-N-O-N.
We will be dropping for Stranger to your patrons and above an episode this month,
a very special episode on Dreamfire.
The Mother of Dragons, some may think, me being some of those some.
So make sure you head over to our Patreon where you can check out that episode when it drops.
Yeah.
We'll be back with more Mocking Jay probably next month, but there's a lot going on.
There's a lot going on.
It's a lot.
It's dragon season.
It is.
It's dragon season.
There's a lot going on in this episode as well.
There's a little bit of before we get into all of it.
Just like last week, we'll go pretty much location by location, plot, subplot, et cetera.
We'll get into it.
A lot of fast travel in this episode.
A lot of quick cuts to different plots.
I know we got dragons.
That means automatic fast travel, but not always.
Not always.
Yeah, yeah.
It's a lot to take in.
Interesting pace.
Agreed.
There were some things that it was like, that was a little fast, but at the same time,
I'm not against it.
I'm not against it for this one.
I think it worked fine for the pacing of this story and how everything was spaced out in
terms of those beats.
Great episode.
I mean, really good.
Some of the pacing, like I said, weird, some of the dialogue.
Dialogue a little clunky.
Yeah, great finale.
Really good episode 10 of season two.
Yes, it's episode two of season three.
We know, that's the joke.
I don't know, I like it.
Let's get into it.
We made our headers have some fun titles this time.
I worked really hard on them for you, Eliana, for our notes to really guide us.
So we're going to start with bastard bloodshed at war.
Oh, sad.
Wow.
It is sad.
Gollet, extended, cut to Dragonstone.
You know, we open on this very sad, very sad funeral note, right?
or a death coming home note because Giseras is being moshpit airlifted,
like crowd-served home to Dragonstone.
That's all I could think about.
They were like crowd-surfing his body home.
He had real Kendall Roy eldest son behavior with his drowning in the water going on.
I kept yelling, no, the floaty, no Kendall the beer, as he laid there in the water
waiting for it to come down.
Someone should edit the beer falling into that gif.
Anyways, maybe it's me. Maybe I'm that someone.
Maybe it's you.
But I really like the music.
There's great music at the beginning, that sweeping, like, melody, very sad dirge, getting
Jace all the way back to Dragonstone.
Bela, Bethany Antonia, did a great job on bringing that sadness of Bela because, man,
that would suck.
That would not be a great way to bring your royal boyfriend home, your fellow royal boyfriend.
Royal boyfriend, brother, cousin. What am I missing?
And also, I very much took the implication from this,
did Bayla not realize Raina was on sheepstealer, or is Bella covering for Raina?
That needs to be answered for me still.
I'm not sure.
Like, it has been, some have said, like, only Jace really realized.
And I guess Raina sort of implies, like,
her reaction later sort of suggests that maybe
it was only her, it was only Jace,
but I don't really know.
What do you think? I guess we're both, I don't know,
people send us your thoughts.
I think Bela doesn't know and that will make it more tragic
because Bela, you know, Reneira will not trust Bela
if she finds out it's Rana.
And she's like, why didn't you tell me it was your twin sister?
You share everything. Of course you knew it was her.
You were hiding it.
You know, like, I could just see some stuff.
What do you think?
If you've gone to your head had to choose, does Bela know or not?
I think she doesn't if I had to choose.
Yeah.
Uh-oh.
SpaghettiOs.
They have those.
There's a lot of, like, moments throughout this chapter, or this chapter, this episode where I'm going to go, uh-oh, because that's the plot.
It's brewing.
The plot is brewing.
Yeah.
Honestly, I don't know why, like, this.
scene of Jace there.
It made me also even think of when Jamie was
sinking back then in
whatever season of Game of Thrones that was.
I've never re-watching it.
And also
also like I'm, you know,
I'm impressed that they found his body.
And
yeah, because like there was a lot of stuff
going on there, but it provides like a really good
contrast, I guess, at the very least for opening
this season. It would have done so as well as like
bookends to season.
two. Season two opens with Rainira unable to find Luke's body, right? And then ends with season two
with Jace's dead body. And I do think it was like really brilliant direction and of course
acting from everyone all around, especially like when Reneira sees Jace's body and like that first
quietness. And it's so unexpected, I think, but like brilliantly done. And I almost cared about Jace.
I, like, cried.
I very much cried.
I had tears in my eyes, yeah.
It's interesting because, like, when I was speaking to my focus group of two,
who for the most part don't really, I guess,
know or remember what's happening in the series.
They felt like, I think, that Emma Darcy's, like, acting with the hands was too much.
But to me, actually, I thought it was very good and felt very real.
And I wonder if it's, like, the way that maybe men are social.
and allowed to express grief, whereas, like, that physicality, I've absolutely seen my mother
do that kind of sobbing before, or I have.
Oh, yeah.
So I think that's really interesting that it didn't land.
The rigidity and very also lady Scottish play, too.
It reminds me a bit of that, that like grief, that veneration of grief, yeah.
Yeah.
But I don't know. I think it was such like a very good way to open the episode and there's so much loaded stuff going on here.
Like, you know, Rainierra's complains, right, that she's taken seriously because of her sex.
And we're seeing that with like that scene of her shredding her dress last episode.
But she's beginning to take on these roles and performance of masculinity.
Like I think Darcy brought a really great physicality to Rainiera leaving the bedroom to finally go to.
take Kingslanding and like also in those like additional moments of grief but like we see like
bargaining anger you know all those like stages of grief in some ways but we don't see all
we see bargaining in anger but we actually don't see all of the different stages of grief because
Rainier mostly goes straight for anger and just stays there and it really ties well with this line
that were told in firing blood of broken by the loss of one son rainiera Targaryen
seem to find new strength after the loss of a second.
Jace's death hardened her, burning away her fears, leaving only her anger and her hatred.
And, like, that's not true.
We see her, like, depressed in bed, which is how most people act in grief as well.
Not everyone.
Everyone grieves differently, but that's, like, expected.
But here in front of everyone, she's only staying with anger.
And it goes back to how people say that women are just so emotional and men are just so emotional.
and men are just not emotional, but that's not true. Men are emotional. It's just that the only
acceptable expression of it is anger, and anger is not perceived as emotion or emotional in men,
because anger is access to power. It affords you power. You're able to exert it over other people,
and that's why women are denied the ability to show that anger. So I think like there's really
something powerful to have Rainier only use that emotion and latch onto it for the entry point
of the rest of this episode as she becomes that ruler and has to prove that she is as worthy
as any man to be the king or queen.
Yeah, there's even that bit in her grief of like, I love how it transforms from like,
what have you done, what have you done?
To Jace.
Like, what have you done?
Like a little boy getting in trouble, right?
Like all the little nods towards they were just little boys before and now they're dead
in this episode, like when she talks about them to Damon, about the little boys who hid behind
her skirts oh my god i'll die i will fling myself down from the tower and king's landing i'll do it for them
oh my god um but not just that but like how it turns from what have you done to him to herself what have
you done what have you done and then shaking with the anger and the backing away and just masterclass from
everyone give them the award give emma the emma award because it will no longer be
called Emmy when Emma is done with it.
When they are done with this award, it will be called
the Emma's
the shaking of Henry Colette's
lifeless body and the rage.
It was just so good.
Honestly, I think it flows really well from
Luke's death and like
how angry she was
at the beginning of the season, like you said, and that
book end of the end of this.
It was good.
If you watch it
together, it's like poetry. It rhymes.
Really emotional shit and really glad that this will shake her.
She will have to start doing some harder things here.
We have some other character beats that will push her towards that, though.
Yeah, I do think like it does suffer.
We'll probably talk more about it from like the fact that everything got pushed
because I had to remind people like, yeah, she's acting that way because like everyone died
within the span of just like a few weeks.
Like her bait, her...
Yeah, it's been like four weeks.
Her daughter died and was stillborn, and then her dad died, and then her other son died, and now her other son died.
I'm like, this was a very short amount of time, everyone.
You learned to live with that vibrating within you until it comes up and drowns you, I mean.
Yeah, and you're saying, like, I don't know, it's sad about all the little kids dying, and as someone else pointed out, he was only a little kid in an image of Simon Strong.
He was just a girl, Simon Strong, before he was murdered.
He was just a girl.
And he was murdered.
Which was pretty awesome, though.
So we'll come to that.
So what about speaking of holding up mirrors to Amund?
The rogue prince.
We got a bit of him in Dragonstone.
We're time traveling because he comes back after the Riverlands.
But we're time traveling.
because we're going to come back to all them at the very end after this.
So, yeah, they did say the thing.
They said the thing.
I was like, oh, my God, it's just like when they said a feast for crows before.
I was like, wow.
What?
They might not have said Rainier triumphant, but they said the rock prince.
I do like that they are throwing a few of those in.
When the dialogue is dialoging, it does an all right job, and there's definitely
some good, like, some, you know, some phrasing that would be in the books. And I really appreciate that.
Instead of, like, just being, like, I'll text you. You know, it's, a Raven was sent to fortnights ago,
but never was returned. You know, like, that's nice. We like that. That's good. Keeps it from being a cheap
medieval show on the CW. Thanks. But Damon's interactions in this episode, oh my God, Damon and Olf.
First of all, hysterical, give me more.
Damon was not having it.
The shit that Ulf pulled on Jace,
Damon was like, no, you don't get to play those games with me.
But also, them not following their orders to a T feels very important.
It shows a lot about them, about the trio, and where their loyalties lie.
Ulf and Hugh are not built for this life.
No.
They are human, not royal incestuous alien.
as our friends in another of the seven kingdoms might call them.
I mean, like, I don't say that to cast aspersions in that, like, I, too, as we've discussed,
I'm not built for that life.
I can't go on roller coasters.
I can't be on a dragon.
But.
I don't have that problem.
I'm built for that.
Yeah, you could be a dragon rider.
I'm being grapes and being fan.
Yeah.
So I do think, like, the scene made me think of.
book Rob Stark chewing out Edmere for not following the orders to a tea for the stone mill.
And also it felt like Damon was as well as trying to offload the guilt of how he wasn't at
Dragonstone by Reignir's side to help with the Battle of the Gullet.
And also very much, you know, sewing the seeds for Ulf and Hugh likely wanting to turn later.
Yeah, that is clear.
kind of interesting because those seeds with the dragon seeds really do work better after the red sewing
and after those couple of episodes.
But again, for the start of the season, I'm like, okay, they're here.
Here they are.
Now they're doing this thing and that's okay.
I just know we have to go from like point C, which is where we're at now, all the way to point
Z at the way of the season, at the end of the season, right?
Like I'm guessing if we're going to go towards Tumbleton, we need...
We're going to tumble there.
We need the boys to ante up.
We're going to tumble there.
So hopefully they get a little more play in the next couple episodes or come to the front.
We did get the juicy reunion with Ms. Aria and Damon, which I really loved.
Oh, yeah.
I find it really funny.
They're both like, IDK, I love eating Reniro's pussy and we can't let Allison do it.
That's what I took from that.
I love when she said, not everything is about you, Damon.
And those are the words that, like, like, bang, that's his.
Pavlov's dog vision quest comes in from Heronel and he's like, right, not everything is about me. I have to remember that. I've grown. She's right. I did think like that was a fun scene that was good. I was like, whoa, it all comes full circle here at the season finale. The next feast they all have is like a council and family. I'm going to be like much as say. It's going to be so awkward.
Yes.
There's this great shot
when he's in bed with Reneira
trying to talk her out of it
out of bed
and their heads are framed
with like a flame flickering in between them.
It's so good.
It was just like the perfect picture
like something is burning between them
and it's not just their lusty loins.
Tells her about Vagar when that flame is going off
and like you see her kind of like wake up a little bit
and I love that like oh he's stoking
the fires of her revenge, the only thing to keep her moving through this.
Yeah.
I also found it very interesting, and this is probably going to provide for the turn this season for her on her path of righteousness, that he mentions kind of like, well, if the Asa and Vison Fire prophecy is true, which by the way, I saw it too, and I think it's true, and here's part of it, how are you going to make that happen?
Yeah.
Are you going to make it happen by being depressed in bed?
Yeah. Yes. If it's meant to happen, then I'm going to just be in bed. Duh. No, that would, I would. That's how prophecy works, Damon. I would fucking stay in bed. I'd be like, well. If it's bound to happen, it doesn't matter. I had to get up for this fucking podcast, dude. If it doesn't matter, then I'm going to fucking stay here. This podcast was prophesied. No, I'm just kidding.
Yeah. I thought it was interesting. It wasn't like the last thing that moved her, I feel. It was like Vagar having left and being like, all right, I got to like, I got a fucking like.
buckle up and get this shit done.
But also, like, the prophecy thing and the whispering of Damon and, like, him telling her,
it, again, it's kind of playing with those, like, expectations and tropes.
And I mean, like, this is literally what we're doing in a song of ice and fire,
but it, like, doesn't...
I'm not trying to be rude, but, like, it doesn't hit as hard in the year 2026
as it probably would have in the year, like, 1996 of, like,
how does it impact the story when a woman or girl is, like, told that you are the chosen
one, not the man, right? And when the audience is told that it's not the man who gets to be the chosen
one. Mm-hmm. But... Oh, they act insane as the answer, by the way. I mean, I guess I would
probably act insane if I was, like, the chosen one. But I don't think I would act insane in the way
everyone else thinks. Like, I think I'd act insane and be like, I don't know what to do with this.
I think you already act insane. Yeah, I know. I'd just be like a worse version of me of
like even more anxiety.
I'd be like, this is terrible.
I can't handle all this responsibility.
Take this cup away from me.
I like you the way you are.
I like you exactly the way you are.
You don't need to get any more powerful.
Wow.
We don't need her getting more powerful.
I did like that Damon was like,
well, now you have to do what you have to do
to make it come true because you're the chosen one.
So time to get up, baby.
Like I think that's so fun because uh-oh.
Sometimes when somebody tells you you're the chosen one over and over and you start to believe it, guess what happens next?
You actually do things?
Yeah.
To get to that path or to continue that path.
Like the end of this episode, actually.
Am I thinking of something in like season one where he also tells her like you know what to do?
You know what you have to do.
And I don't.
I don't know.
Oh, this show.
I'm sorry.
When people say season one, I think, A-GOT, that's like you got to break out of that.
Yes, it is something in season one.
It's also in the last season, maybe even actually in the series finale of Veep,
where Ben tells Selena, you know what you have to do.
And I'll just leave it.
We're not spoilers all.
Maybe that's what we're thinking.
We're not spoilers all Veep, so we'll just leave it at that, everyone.
But it is kind of like not required reading, but like, you know,
it's complimentary reading.
It's encouraged reading, to be fair.
VEEP is encouraged reading.
If we're talking about prophecy, like, Beep literally prophesied U.S. politics.
So, yeah.
Let's talk about the Valerians and Bela.
I'd rather like this bit in the front.
That shot of the four of them, the family shot while the house burnt.
That's it.
Right there, that's it.
Right?
Oh, my God, there it is.
That's what they were building up Corliss for us all to show you them all together.
the house is burning.
And it's such a good anchor because the end of the dance is sooner than everybody thinks.
It's only two years away for us, for us humans.
But, you know, for their house at the end of the dance, we don't want to die by dragonfire.
Not all of us.
No.
Right?
Like there's a very obvious learning, especially after the gullet.
And it really keeps that balance of these characters.
What do they do now?
Corleys built his entire life and his wealth alone the first time.
And then he built it with Rainies.
And now his legacy's been burnt away.
But this is all he has and this is his legacy.
He's realizing they are my legacy.
So I very much like that.
I'd love to see a little more Raina interaction now with the family
because I think we're going to as we get through some of this.
I think there's definitely, you've got to get some more ties going for these guys.
Honestly, they're giving a really good amount of characterization to them.
A little bit, you know, it's not a ton, but more, I feel more closely with the Valerian crew than I do with the Jases and the Luke's.
You know, I would be sadder if any of these guys died, which isn't going to happen, obviously ever, especially not for Eliana's favorite character, who is or is not loyal.
I would be very sad if anyone died.
Yeah, no, I would.
And, like, I mean, they're all going to die eventually, right?
But some of them might drink, of course, of this very series.
And I will, sorry, I want to backtrack briefly, because I just realized, like, did they not, like, give J.
Sechromation?
Um, we don't know.
Because, like, that's what they should do, I guess.
I was just thinking about that as, uh, you know, bail was here.
And I know that people have been making jokes of, like, Jesus's body isn't even
in the ground, then she's out here talking to Alan.
And I did think that was very funny.
It is kind of funny, but they just don't have time.
She's going to have to start talking to him right now.
Like, we have like four or five episodes for them to become chums.
Yeah.
And then they aren't going to see each other for another season.
Like, they need to start flirting now.
Yeah.
Okay.
We are on a schedule.
We are on a schedule.
Um, I do, like, it's like they're actually giving us.
selling to chew on finally though with some of the secondary and tertiary characters so really love that
thank you so much still good stuff with like the chewing of the scenery for like the rineras and damans
and alicons of the world but we're finally getting some real estate to these other characters so i am living
for that look forward to more throughout the season i am hoping they will be less of tertiary characters
just because like i do think to carry it through to the end of the story as i've been saying like i do
think Corleys has to become more of a main character in Bela. I think they're starting to do that.
From a numbers game, they're going to have to be more important because we're killing a few off.
And also we have that great nod of Corlis being like, you know, I could give you my name. I can't
give you my house, but I could give you my name. And that's going to create a lot of great tension
in court with Reneira. Corlis being back in that room is going to be amazing. In the small
council chamber. Get him back. Get him back to King's Landing. Wow. I'm looking forward to that.
But him asking for his son's sons, I wonder if they're going to go through with the
Lainer plot and say like, oh, interesting that they've turned up in their Lainers, especially
considering Lainer, quote unquote, is alive. Could be fathering further sons, honestly, but this
would have been before, obviously. I do think, yeah, I find that interesting because I'm like,
they haven't made any reference to that at all.
So far as I can tell of like pretending that they're Lainer's sons.
Have they?
Have they at all said?
No.
Well, they haven't been.
Adam's the only one.
So I could see a tension because Adam like knelt to Reneira and swore that he was her man.
And now he's hiding secrets from her.
Not very her man of him, is it?
And then also like that Corliss hasn't come forward and said.
and he spent all of last season being very dodgy about it, right?
And not telling anyone who they were.
And Rainies found out, like, you know, a day before she died.
So, I don't know, Reneira probably has heard about the boys who follow Corliss at camp,
but maybe doesn't know yet.
Like, this might be a big smack in the face right after Jace's death.
Yeah.
For him to legitimize bastards with the Valerian name and say, well, they're Lainer's sons.
or maybe he'll just say they're his sons
and none of this will matter that I'm saying out loud.
I don't know.
I feel like they're just going to skip over that,
but at the same time,
like in the books,
I do think it was kind of funny
that they said it was Lena's sons.
And in my opinion,
I think Rainierre, like,
supported that because by saying that
Lainer had bastard sons,
it suggests that her own sons
are legitimate, saying...
No, no, it says,
it suggests that her own sons
are also Lainer's sons.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Yeah.
Because, look, he clearly had appetites.
Yeah, it's interesting that it could be used.
I mean, I almost wonder if he's going to be like they could be in the succession line, you know, since she's losing children.
Maybe. I just, like, don't know. It would go to...
I don't know how bold Corliss is about to be, you know, is all I said.
Yeah, I don't know, because, like, it would obviously go to Bella and Raina first.
First.
Yeah.
But, again,
maybe that's it. I don't know what Corlis
is going to do, but he's going to do something. That's all I'm saying.
He's
going to come back with something going on,
but he seems very anti-politics.
So maybe not. Maybe it'll just be like,
legitimize my kid, please. Bye. Where's Thailand?
Where's Thailand?
You know, they fished out Corleys.
Girl,
he is just floating somewhere.
You know. He's out there.
They're going to find him. They're going to find him. Don't you worry.
I know what's going to happen.
I hope so.
He's going to float his.
way to the black water and he's going to get
found on the shore like Davos.
That's crazy if he's the Davos character.
A little.
No, he's not. And actually,
I will say, you know
the Patchface
Shireen late motif? Yeah.
The song, but I know
oh, oh, whatever. You sung it
for me many times.
Well, I have.
I do these things for you.
And you can hear it
with the Valerian.
theme. They have it worked into the Valerian music. Good job, Ramin. Which is kind of fun and interesting
to put them as the naval seafaring house with the Davos, who was also the naval seafaring character,
and also giving Corlifts like the heart of the story right now, and Alan kind of the heart of
the story that they were just, you know, at war, saw devastation. They're finding true
fatherhood, sonhood, whatever, connection.
They're finding connection and finding familial connection after the war when everything was
like destroyed in front of them and all of their houses pretty much lost their wealth,
etc.
So I don't know, there's just something interesting about that with that late motif being what
Ramin is putting into it really stood out to me.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, here's a different watery thing, the Riverlands.
Yeah, let's go to the Riverlands.
Fish feeds, skip another battle.
Got to save that budget, baby.
We got so many dragons now.
We got to really save our money.
We're pinching pennies.
Wait, I have another commentary from my focus group regarding the budget.
I informed my partner about cannibal, and he said, wait, what?
That's awesome.
They should have just, like, had budget for only two dragons, one being cannibal and one being the dragon cannibal eats.
and that's the commentary for you.
My God, HBO's going to listen to this episode and reach out to you to get contact information for your partner and then hire your partner.
I just want you to know, maybe I should edit this out because we don't need them getting ideas, but my God, that man's a genius.
Make him a CEO.
Make him a VP.
Today.
VP of production today.
He just saved the company so much money.
Welcome to the firm, son.
That's the commentary on budget.
Incredible, very incredible.
And he would watch how many seasons about that?
I don't know.
It doesn't need that much more.
Art only has to hit once.
Okay, great.
Well, with that, let's go to the fish feed.
Great battle we didn't see.
And that's okay.
We see everybody in the aftermath.
They're drinking, they're partying, they're having
good time. Feels actually very interesting when you look at episode one with the Kristen Gwain camp,
right? This is kind of a fresher camp. They've been set up not as long. Their victories are
keeping them afloat and Kristen Gwain's camp is like we've seen some shit. So I don't expect
them to stay married for long, but enjoying it while we can, especially because the Riverlands
is about to be burnt to a Chris. Again. So this is clean.
good, wholesome fun singing and huaiing and drinking and black alleys there.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, I guess it's not exactly again.
I guess I'm just thinking of like in a song of Ways and Fire.
So that's the again.
Anyways, I did really love that scene.
I thought they did a good job of making it feel like it's a song they're all making up on the spot.
Like so improv.
This is theater camp.
That's it.
Yeah.
I like when Damon said,
uh,
fuck the greens or whatever, whatever the line was that rhymed with the greens.
I liked that. That was fun.
True joy from Damon for once.
Yeah, he is in his element in the battlefield, doesn't mean?
That's true, yeah.
It's really interesting.
I can really see that.
Like, he's really himself.
Well, like when Allison was floating in the water, but he's out here, like, now I can be
myself.
Absolutely.
And Karexies is behind him, throatally agreeing.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, my God.
The Syrac's incorrect.
he's nuzzling. Very cute this episode when they were at Dragonstone before they left and they're like all kissing, smooching.
Wow, wait, is this one of the last times they'll see one another or two after this? Like when he leaves? I don't know. I think the dragon fast travel makes it so these characters get to keep interacting more than maybe they did in the book iterations.
And sometimes they get sent to other places and sent back for random places we can't predict.
Yeah, but that's how we get scenes forever and ever.
No, that's good.
I'm not thinking it's bad.
They would each just be in one place.
Yeah, I got it.
But it is interesting because I'm like, I'm just saying maybe he has to see her obviously several more times.
I think it won't be till beginning and next season until they say their final goodbye.
I look forward to it.
Like we have to have.
Syrac and Craxie specifically.
We have to get like the love triangle of Damon and Mizaria.
She's going to be like, I don't know, Damon, you left.
It was Casa Amor.
And I was exploring this bombshell Mizarria.
No, literally.
And also, it's about to become a rectangle.
Yeah, and I guess it was an island.
It was Love Island, aka Dragonstone.
Anyways.
You know, there's a different prince in the Riverlands now.
Have you heard this?
Have you heard?
Have you heard?
this? There's a rumor in
Heron Hall, Peterberg.
Have you heard? There's a rumor in
Heron Hall. I don't know.
I was listening to the Anasaja soundtrack a few weeks ago,
so that's it.
Oh, I feel this. I feel this.
I do that like annually.
That's real of you.
Coraxi's in the water. Oh yeah, right.
So Alice and Damon, fucking, here's
Damon now at Heron Hall
and then he's going to go to Dragonstone
and then he's going to go to King's Landing.
We did this backwards.
Where isn't Damon flying?
Where isn't he going these days?
But yeah, so when he goes to the Riverlands,
there's that shot you open with, and Carraxies' head is in the water, drinking from the water.
Cat allegations are not being beat.
But also, I was like, is this mean foreshadowing?
Like, why are you showing me Caraxi's head in the God's Eye water?
I don't need to see that.
I like that idea.
I think it could be, definitely.
I mean, she does tell him that.
his doom is coming, like right there. I've never really thought of the fact that dragons drink water,
but they do. And yeah, the Pasta deitacion, for those of you, watching the World Cup,
on Telemundo specifically. That's what I also saw in. I didn't come up with that. I have a lot of
tidbits from everyone else on mine. Um. Damon has a sexy little braid again.
Yeah.
That little, like, coiled braid.
What is that all that?
He's got to be matching, like, from afar with Rainira.
It's the bonds that tie them, their hair.
I mean, or the strains of their DNA that look oddly similar.
Who can understand why?
Who can really know why?
I thought that Alice wanting Harenhall was really a good plot tidbit.
makes sense considering she kind of does somewhat similar in the books not so forward and not
to Damon that we see.
There's that great line she says to Damon when Damon's like, nope, can't do that.
My recently dead stepson promised that to the phrase, so can't do that.
He should have just told her she would have killed the phrase.
That's true.
It would have fixed it for generations to come.
Yeah.
Yeah, life and death, you know, it's got to be balanced.
but there's that line where she says,
I ask for food and you offer me rubies.
And that was so good.
I was like, whoa, also because the Trident will have rubies someday in them,
but that has nothing to do with it.
I just like that idea.
No, it does.
But the small folk in class dynamics are really strong,
and I like that we're getting it from Alice.
This actually, and I've told you my feelings,
I may as well come clean to the world.
Like, I am interested in the concept of Alice.
However, up until this point, I wasn't a fan of how she was being portrayed.
I thought she was a little twee, a little like, I'm so quirky, I'm so random.
But I felt in this episode that this was a very authentic and raw Alice that we hadn't yet seen in some aspects.
Or more like her when she was being maistery and midwifey and just cooking in the kitchen.
and Damon went to her live stream taping, you know?
Like, I like that, but here it really ties her to characters like Mizarria
and other characters that you've met and show us, like, where her loyalties are,
and that the people starve.
You know, you can't feed them with rubies.
And if that and, like, the great protection of the dragons is what you are offering
when the dragons rain down destruction on those around them,
not a great campaign promise.
It's not.
And also, I mean, it ties back.
well, right? With, why
will you not give me this, but you're
doing this other thing for Rain the Arrow, which is obviously
going to come back. But
I think that line
in general,
well, first I'm going to...
I remember you telling you that about
Alice when I was
with you, like last week? And I was like, I see it.
I see what you're saying in regards to the critique.
So random. She kind of
was. And like, I guess I'm still
kind of trying to understand where they're
going with her, but it does now make
sense now that she's made her I want statement. Like you finally see that motivation, but it is
kind of curious to me, like, why do you want this? Like, is there something about it that ties
together with Larry's? Because he also is someone who doesn't fit like the typical mold of
it all, right? And he too wants. Um, interesting. But yeah, they've been trying to do the,
the project of Harenhal for a while. And I do like, as you said, that line of, I ask for food and
you offer me rubies. I think there's like a great three-beat motif in this episode of that
like construction of like I wanted X but got Y or like things like that and it ties well with
following a few scenes later, right? You have Alan Valerian saying, I'm sorry, not yet,
Alan singing. Jumping the gun. And in regards to inheriting the Valerian name,
and yet I count that of more worth than a mountain of gold and just this idea of what are
certain things worth when you ask for them, when it is what you want. And the final blow of it being
the irony and juxtaposition of that line you said before, like, the boys that clung to me who
hid their little faces in my skirt, it's dead so I may sit on the throne of swords. And it's
that three-beat question of like, so what is something actually worth? What do we truly want?
What is it for? Yeah. Well done. Construction of the episode.
themes if you dare to find them
they're no like they're legitimate and they are around they actually like legitimately are in
there it's not like you have to dig for them they're there i mean look back at stannis right
and davos davos losing all of his children to stannis true his war to stonis
uh lord stenis of dragonstone god i'll die but that is right there
like Davos losing his children and then being like,
I don't know what's it for all of this needless war and the sacrifice of children.
Like I have to save that boy just in case.
Like we can't just keep eating our children to be the winners.
Yeah.
Forever.
We'll have nothing left.
We'll have nothing left like Pita says in Mockingjay.
Well, even when, um, Ramira question, like what's,
a point of you like, you know,
honor killing yourself
or whatever, right?
And even though
she's like, yeah, go ahead, do it, do whatever the fuck you want
later. But it, for a
bit of a moment there, I was like, oh,
this is the Alaria sand speech
and then it wasn't.
It was so close, though. It literally
was so close. I also felt
I felt a feast for crows in that
Chili's as well.
Amen.
Hallelujah.
A man or amend?
Sorry.
Or a woman, if you will.
Wow.
Queensland.
Herstery.
I liked the closeout from Alice when she was like, or when he first got there, not
the closeout.
I liked when Damon first got there and Alice said, I've seen that you're coming
has been an omen of the end.
And he's like the end of one.
She's like many things and the beginnings of others.
And then at the end she's like, remember what I said.
don't return here and like, yeah, spell it out a little bit.
You will die if you come back here because my boyfriend's here now.
He doesn't know it yet, but he will be my boyfriend very soon.
I feel that.
Is what she said.
I've definitely, like, said something like that before.
Not necessarily like as romantic, but, and that was right.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
My boyfriend's back.
Except he wasn't my boyfriend yet, but now he is.
And he killed the bestest little boy in the series.
No, I am actually legitimately pretty distraught.
What's really fucked up is that I was like looking at production pictures
where I could see Simon Strong behind Damon at a Riverlands battle.
So I was like, ooh, they're not going to get into that right away.
We're going to get into that in mid-season.
and know it was earlier in the episode
when we see him in the Riverlands before he goes home to die.
Yeah.
I wish I could just tell him, like, don't...
Don't do it.
Don't go home.
Yeah, just stay out here.
Don't go home.
Just go join the roving theater camp that also happens to kill people.
At least he'll be with his fam.
You know, he'll be hanging out with a fan.
He can hang out with his other family.
He'll be dripping in hell.
In the Raven Cart.
Oh, my God.
Uh...
Goodbye, how strong.
But most importantly, Simon has said,
first of all, my focus group.
I like that now instead of roommate, by the way.
I'm really into my focus group.
My focus group that met Sunday about this,
my focus group, I'm going to try it.
My roommate has never been happier.
I want you to know the sheer happiness as he sat on the couch gleefully next to me
with his jaw dropped as Amen.
and Vagar just like burninated the entire building and stabbed people and fought them.
Like Terminator Death Machine, Amon, it was pure happiness on the couch.
I'm so happy for him.
I've never, you know, it was just like watching someone's dream come true because he doesn't
really care about the dance or what happens to it.
He never has, but he cares about Amid.
So I'm happy his wish came true.
And also my wishes came true.
too because of that, not just for his happiness, but also my own,
mine own, I should say, mine own wishes,
Amon crawling pathetically on the ground with his wound and like bleeding out and like
looking up at Alice, like mommy held.
Yeah.
Incredible.
Incredible sequence.
Vagar just burning everything.
And the fact that like he shows up and he has this norm in his head of how.
the fight is going to go.
And he shows up to their little round room where Simon also has a norm.
His thing is like, we don't really fight.
We just like say, hey, you can live here and I'll serve you now.
And Amid was like, well, no, you're going to fight me.
Like put up your sword.
There's a way that this works.
You will fight me.
And if not, I will strike you or whatever.
But he needs that like order to live in this world.
Amad is like, there is an order of things.
And the order is, I'm a prince.
I show up.
I'm going to fight you and strike you down and you're going to battle me like a man.
And Simon didn't.
Simon was like, no?
Simon was like, I've already done this.
I've done this before.
And it went really like okay-ish the last time.
I can talk him down.
He's like, we just stand up.
We're just like, oh my God.
I'm sorry.
We weren't ready for this.
Do you want lodging?
Yeah, Eamon doesn't see that.
He doesn't do reason.
Oh, I thought you were making a joke about his unlawful.
I was like, dang, okay.
Damn, no, that's very inappropriate.
But that too, I guess.
I, yeah, it's kind of funny because, like, I actually did think when he first initially
landed, I was like, how's he going to do here?
Because, like, I was like, this is his first, like, literal hand-to-hand combat in, like,
an actual real one.
Like, he has been on Dragonback.
And some people were like, well, he's trained.
I'm like, it's, like, literally not the same.
and it's meant to be a juxtaposition with Damon and how like, you know, well, Damon does later on.
But also, Vagar raising, like, the whole scene, I did, like, really enjoy Vagar raising, like, Heron Hall because I was like, ah, this is probably just like a wheat taste, a weight taste of what Heron the Black experienced.
Also loved it because it's so Amid, like, yeah, why not just broost the place they've been trying to put back together since the last time of Disrepair?
And then also you're going to live there.
Why not just like burn and ate the entire place?
You have to live there.
This is how I like it.
You know, like giving very like boy living away from home for the first time.
Like I don't want to see what the bedroom looks like in one week.
You know, I'm not saying like they're the same.
But you know what it's giving?
Now that you phrased it in that way, it's giving.
I'm going to give a $14 million contract to repaint the entire reflecting pool, blue.
and then have all the algae, like, builds up and it no longer self-cleans a little,
and then we throw in, like, in the worst possible way, a bunch of hydrogen peroxide to kill it,
and then that strips off all of the paint that we spent $14 million putting on there.
That's...
Oh, but, like, literally, and this is his first time living away from home.
Like, he would be doing that.
He would be doing that shit.
And not just that, but also, like, I think of how...
much as an adult, I know that as a child I did not. Like, he doesn't know don't put coffee grounds in your
garbage disposal. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. As a person he's made that mistake. Yeah.
Yeah. Like, he doesn't know what a pea trap is. Like, he has no clue. He does not know how to
balance his checkbook. His guards aren't even there. It's just like him and Vagar exploring themselves in a
haunted mansion. It's like, I'm just saying like, thrilling. That and I'm like,
those are your tax dollars that
Aeman just burned
but also your tax dollars that was used
to make the burning happen because I was, as I was reminding
my focus group yesterday and they're like, yeah, wait, why, what's going to happen?
Like, what about the sheep?
Like, and like the feeding, I was like, this was literally a plot point in season two.
You know this, right?
Like, the, how are we going to have enough sheep to feed the dragons?
It was a plot point.
This was addressed.
Yeah.
Yeah. By Egan, believe it or not.
Exactly.
He thought about...
Agan I would have remembered your tax dollars.
God, we've really sunk in low.
If that's the best candidate, we've really sunk low.
He's not the best candidate, but I am saying that Agan the second would have remembered your tax dollars.
Everyone.
And then his grandpapa would have told them, fuck the tax dollars.
Fuck the poor
Yeah
I saw that scene too
Let's fly to the veil
Because everybody else seems to be doing it
And did you know
In the veil
They have a central intelligence center
Where they just learn stuff very fast
Did you know this?
Is it because they're so high up
They just have a bird's eye view of everything
Oh my god
Are they like that?
FAA, like, everything, like, goes up there.
Like, you know, the towers at the airports?
No, literally, they have those.
That's what stone and snow actually are.
Like, the waypoints are actually that.
Nice.
Nice.
We fixed it.
I did, like, a couple of things about this.
I'm excited to see what else unravels with the veil in this season.
So we've seen now and learned it's going to be Raina's home base, it seems, for a while.
Jane's costume progression was really fun.
The last time we saw her, she was in her very rich velvet gown with the burnt-in sigil
and the big cloak, the veil-style cloak.
And now she's in like a half-Gambison kind of thing with skirts.
I really love the material.
It's very rich and blue and it has the Falcon and Aaron sigil kind of printed into all of it,
like some burnt damask.
Really nice, though.
It was kind of a cool signal like, ah,
They got the message.
War is happening.
Things are happening out there, including war, time to dress for war.
Fun.
I didn't even realize it was meant to be a wartime outfit.
I just thought, like, well, Lady Jane Aaron.
She serves kind.
Yeah, she does.
Because I was like, surprised some people are like, I don't like this outfit.
I was like, why this outfit eats?
And I was like, do I have bad taste?
But I thought this outfit was incredible.
I do think it's more practical on the arms.
of the outfit, you know, the sleeves.
So I could see kind of what
they're going for. I don't know what she's going to do, though,
like all the way up there.
I don't either.
Die. If somebody comes up there, girl, if that dragon comes,
you already know, die, I guess, bravely.
That's life.
Yeah.
I did, I do not love, like,
the plot progression point that it was used at
where she somehow has all of the information
about what's happened in the gullet.
Like, Rainier just found out two scenes ago,
and that's because it's in her backyard, and they brought him home.
I was kind of in shock that Jane Aaron knew, oh, yes, the prince has died.
That was just, it kind of hit me funny and clunky.
There's a couple moments this episode that's just clunky.
They did bring up the boys vaguely by saying, you know,
oh, Raina, you're supposed to be on a ship to Pentos.
So maybe that's who,
knows about Jace dying somehow. Maybe they saw it on the horizon as they sailed off.
We don't know yet. We don't know. I'm going to give them a couple more episodes. I'm still,
you know, I'll wait. I'll wait. I'm not surprised at this direction though. Um, you know,
I wasn't going to argue that I was almost going to argue. Renira probably wouldn't be so
harsh with her, but I'm like, no, probably would be if she tried to return and Reneer knew it was
her and knew the dragon. Kind of hard to hide the dragon.
at this point.
Sheep Steeler is a very distinct dragon.
And I did like that Raina kind of pushed back
and bought her own protection with Sheep Steeler,
placing bets with Jane on who could protect her
instead of on her own family.
That was interesting.
Yeah.
puts it in her own corner,
her own fate, her own destiny.
I was thinking about it and like, you know, I don't,
I don't like love it, same as you.
Like, I'm like, what are we doing here?
And, like, obviously, we're just combining her storyline with nettles, but I'm like, what are we doing here?
But there is, like, an interesting, like, if you think about, like, what it's doing, I guess, you know, this is what exists in the text now, this text, not in the books, but, like, what is the story doing with this?
And it, I was like, so it's interesting that she comes back to the veil, right?
Because her father famously not very beloved in the veil, probably because of that time that he murdered, like, his ex-1.
wife, who was not his ex-wife at the time. She was still his wife. But also, Raina's behavior is in
actually, like, many ways, very similar to her father's, right? Like, she also was craving,
um, craving approval from her family members. So she's like, you know what's going to make people
pay attention to me getting a dragon? And that's very like that attention sort of seeking behavior
that we see in Damon, especially in season one. And Damon, same as Raina, also is like, well,
shit's gone awry and I don't trust my family to provide you that protection as you were saying
and then he goes and he like runs away he's like I'm going to go fight a war in the sepsoons or like I'm
going to go live in Tyroche right like it's a very they've actually got some similar traits but
they just manifest a little yeah they manifest a little differently because they're meant to be
different characters but you can see that through line I would also wonder if they set up that
relationship with her and Panto so much. And now that she has the dragon, if they will actually
give her the plot of bringing back Vesaris and maybe even Egan, who knows? That could be
interesting. Like maybe that's her redemption. She brings them back after Reneer is gone. Yeah,
they carry, they carry him back like in a little saddle like underneath like sheepsealers giant
underbite, like the way the stork brings babies.
Yeah, that would be very cute.
But emotionally I could also see how that works because
Damon dies and Raina goes off and maybe she goes to Pentos
and stays there for one to three years.
And it's almost like an exile for her, but they accept her.
They remember her plus she has a big dragon now.
And she finds the boys and brings them back.
And that's her big redemption arc for the end.
Yeah.
Oh yeah, was it Pentos, not Tyroche?
My bad.
I mean, we're not going to get the Rojars, so...
Oh, my God.
It was so hard to explain to people in the focus group again.
I was like, Lease is important.
You don't understand.
I know.
Oh, yeah, HBO, if you are listening to ideas from my partner,
he does, in fact, want a series that takes place in the free cities.
Oh, how interesting.
I was like, yeah.
We've definitely suggested this before.
And then I tried to pitch butter bump in.
And that didn't, that was not near.
Oh, I'm always butter bumping.
That was not nearly as exciting to everyone.
Come on.
Not good reception.
Got it.
No, no, I mean, like, it's only one group, you know.
Like, it could really hit still.
Like, sometimes art is about doing what's a little offbeat.
That's how we got Picasso.
All right.
Speaking of people who are a little offbeat, let's talk about Agin and Lary's.
What is this section titled, Chloe?
On the road again.
Egan and Lairies
Sometimes it's just a boy and his best friend
And I don't know which one's the boy
And which one's the best friend
But
Oh dear
Sometimes it's that
Nodicast
Manu from Nodicast had posted the photo of them
And was like sometimes this is just two podcasters
And I was like, wait which one are you?
I'm curious
Manu thinks that he's Agan and that Emmett is Lairies
And I'm like yeah that's actually probably true
That might be true
Which ones?
Which of us?
I'm going to say that you're Larry's because you're injured.
Yeah.
Well, I guess Agen's also injured.
But like your injury is more like Larry's is right now.
Anyways, we can take all that out, I guess.
I don't know.
It's up to you.
No, I'm leaving it in.
It's substance.
Okay.
All right.
So I'm going to go into rant.
First of all.
Okay. What is the rant about, Eliana?
It's just about discourse online, and I should probably stop bringing in so much discourse from online.
But I'm going to bring it in.
First of all, I will say, like, episode two of the house that Dragons built for season three.
They talk about how Tom Glencarnie did a great job, also, like, of giving, like, you know, some thoughts of like, hey, I think Egan can do this, like, during the, like, stabby, stabby scene, which very, I was going to say that's very fun.
And I'm like, is it fun?
I think everyone like that scene.
So yeah, it is a little fun.
But there's also like other stuff going on where a lot of people are criticizing how in the previous episode, like,
Glenn Carney gave the edit that actually Agin the second would not bow immediately when captured
because that's how it had been written in the script originally.
And I'm like, that doesn't mean that the writer's room is full of bad writers.
Like, that's so normal.
That's normally how writers rooms work, right?
That's art.
Actors often take part in the writing process and editing.
Like, Carrie Fisher famously helped a lot with the writing of Star Wars.
She plays Princess Leia in case, like, some of you, I don't know, are here and don't know these things.
Because apparently people don't know things.
But also, like, if you think, if you're upset about the version, like, a version of writing a character,
only to have someone point out that it's out of character, and then taking that criticism to heart is a bad writing,
this happened to my friend once.
George R.R. Martin.
George R.R. Martin.
So, in 2008 at Technicon,
George read aloud of a draft
of the famous John Snow chapter
where John beheads Janoslint.
But he doesn't quite behead Janoslint in it.
Right? Okay. This is the chapter that everyone's like,
wow, it's so brilliantly foreshadowed.
That sounds like, I hope a hero beheads.
General Slint. George originally has John ordering Slint hanged, and that is how Slint was probably
going to die. And this is chronicle by people's accounts of that con. And granted, this part is more
of a rumor, but it has famously, it's kind of been accepted, so who knows? Rumor goes that a fan
told him, this rumor has been around for years, that this was out of character, John having Slint
hanged. And as we all know, in the final version of the draft, it is different from what was read
a lot of Technicon because, I mean, you can all go read it in the book, John Behead's Janoslint.
So I'm just saying, iteration is part of the creative process. You guys, thank you for being here,
for me being angry. Beautiful. Beautifully said. I'm really glad that you got
to get this out of your system, you know.
That kind of stuff isn't good for you.
Is anything truly ever out of my system?
No, I don't think so.
So we'll be back on this next week when Eliana has something new to tell us.
But my favorite part ranged from like when you lectured us on Star Wars, you, Eliana.
Oh, sorry, sorry.
And your big Star Wars passion.
We get, we keep veering a little too close to just all.
almost becoming a Star Wars podcast and we're never going to do that.
Great call, though. I think it was a really good development and I really love what Tomlin
Karnie's brought to Agan in total. I do think he's brought a lot of humanity to the character.
And I do think they're writing him a lot more human too, but it's a really great viewing of the process.
And I really liked in the scene when he went out and got an arrow. So again, like kind of looking at,
you know, Raina twisting the system.
situation to get a little bit of power back in it.
That was great.
And Agan does that in this scene as well, right?
Where he goes out, grabs an arrow from a body, breaks it, and then stabs the fuck out of his captor.
And I thought that was great.
I thought that was just like a great, his rage and his pride and his resourcefulness, all these things compounding that he was like, oh, I could do it.
He's not dead yet.
You know, he's not dead yet.
And he has little power, but what he has he took out on the guy.
It's very aria, right?
Very a very aria.
How many, how many, how many?
Yeah.
Well, are you ready for the taking of Kings Landing?
Yes, Queen.
Yes, Queen.
Yeah, I'm just kidding.
I'm so sorry.
I'm just kidding.
Yes, queen.
I am.
I am.
Let's get into it with the Taking of Kings Landing,
and we'll start with Alicent in the Keep.
Uh, something I really liked was the godswood with Alicent and Helena.
with the butterfly that Helena had in her little book.
She has a little diary that it seems she's keeping a nature diary.
Very Hunger Games coded of her.
Shout out our Hunger Games episodes.
Go to patreon.com slash girls gone canon, C-A-N-O-N,
for a taste of the Hunger Games with Girls Gone Cannon.
But if you read the text, which, Eliana, I don't know,
if you know me, something I'm going to do is stop, pause, zoom in,
and read the text on something.
No, I'm glad you do.
I'm kind of a nerd.
I'm glad you do.
Sometimes it's nothing.
Sometimes it's like Ipsum, Lorum, you know, like it's just like bullshit.
Sometimes it's just like, this is here, so you are watching it on a screen.
But not an A-Swaff.
They go heavy with A-Swaff shows.
They're not into that game.
So A-L-I-C-I-U-N-I is how you spell the name of the butterfly.
Alachuni, Al-I-I-I-N-I- know.
I was going to ask your pronunciation, because when I
read this, I go, Alichunni.
Alachunni, but the spelling, I feel
like, is more important to
our discussion here. I guess.
Get ready. What it says
on the page,
just make the hands again, you'll be happy.
Alachuni.
On the page, it says,
Alachuni of Nath, so it's a butterfly from Nath.
No other shade. The lines are
distinct as if drawn with quill.
And then it says, they are
said to cause death to people around them while living, but so far I remain alive.
So it is like a diary, like written like an entry from Helena that she saw it and she's like,
oh.
But moreover, the butterfly clearly represents Allison, right?
The spelling of the name.
People, of course, are funny and they're like, oh, it's the toxic butterflies that George was
talking about.
ooh, it means toxic butterflies
and like jokingly and I'm like, yeah, but
it's symbolism, right?
Everyone around Allison will die
and she will live.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was talking about this as our friend
Gray Area reminded me of this this past weekend
and it makes me think of
what I see as the end for like Ariens'
storyline.
But yeah, I do think, I think you are right.
I think this butterfly is meant to be
Allison and even like the image in
in the book like
I thought there was more green in it but yeah
I do think it is
oh no it's not green image in a book
it's not green oh yeah no but it's like their story
like the Nameria
page in the book and the ripping of the page like here's
Allison now in the book herself that's where they were
interesting yeah
Alice Chudy okay
Alachuni High Tower
Alachuni
How do you say
High Tower?
Like in Italian
Google it
I should know
I should know
Oh yeah that's right
I forgot that you were studying
Yeah but I'm like
trisexual lingual now
Like I'm doing French now
I'm doing Italian French
And once in a while
I put the High Valerian on
I'm not very far in that one
The problem is that like it's not real.
And so it's like a fake language to learn.
It's interesting though.
It's very interesting.
I mean, it's real, but you know what I mean.
Like the depth is not far.
Yeah.
All right.
All right.
English language and some delirian.
You know, there's been some spotty clunky dialogue going on these couple of episodes.
And this episode, they used it.
to remind the average viewer what the fuck is happening, delivered via Helena Targaryen
who gets to speak more lines in this episode than she ever has in the entire show.
But the lines are just recapping the events of the show up until this moment, by the way.
Like that she's like standing there like, and then, mom, then granddad died and other granddad,
you know, helped you make Egan the king with Sir Christian Cole.
these are all people and things that happened one season ago, two seasons ago,
and I'm saying them again.
And I was just very, that was disappointing.
Dude, we're very far along in this show.
We are three quarters of the way through the show until its end.
We are also probably like three, more than three quarters of the way through with Helena's life on the screen.
Like, if she lived past this season,
I will be great. Yeah, I'm like, I'm concerned with the welfare and well-being of Helena Targaryen.
And so the fact that we are on episode two of a season that is only going to get eight episodes, so six more episodes, like, there's concern for me that you're giving me three or four lines of, here's how the character still relates to this plot.
And we're catching the audience up with it real quickly. Okay, we're walking around the courtyard.
that was disappointing.
That's a sin.
I think I just kind of like gloss over it.
The audience is smarter than that.
I don't know.
What did your focus group say when Helena was on screen?
You know how you were asking?
I didn't ask them about their thoughts on Helena.
But you know how you were asking,
do I think that Bela knows it was Raina or not?
I saw people saying, well,
Baila said like, that's my sister and it's like, look up from your phones.
Raina said that.
It was like very explicitly Raina distraught saying, that's my sister.
And that's why I'm like, no, Chloe, maybe it was like a necessary scene.
Maybe.
It's just like the show's not for other people.
It's for me.
It's for, yeah.
It's for.
Maybe that's the problem that the show.
show is for everyone and not for me, and I can't, I don't know how to handle that.
But maybe it is also for us.
I don't know.
Okay.
I like the general arc of Allison manipulating the factions of the castle from within, right?
The guards, the different folks, whether by her guile or by her lies, and also that
most of the guards were fine with that.
Like, I am a little wary of how many random red shirts.
may have met that serve the crown in the city watch and in the guard,
because I'm like, they're going to defect later in Renera overthrown.
Like, Sir Frederick, interesting, you're going to be a problem, I'm guessing, or die horribly.
But most the guards want to live and not be eaten alive or burned alive by dragon,
which is like the only other option.
So you see them very easily put down their weapons and be like, yes, we will surrender, sure.
It just takes Helena and Allison walking the battlements.
And there is also something to say that this adaptation took three seasons to have a sexual assault scene that was semi-gratuitous, and it wasn't that much.
But they don't have many, is what I'm saying.
So I was kind of like, oh, okay, interesting.
Season three, this is season three energy.
Allison is given, you know, as a consequence to her politicking and for being a woman.
Ironrod uses this moment.
Jasper Wilde uses this moment to blackmail coerce an attempt to rape her.
And it's also what we learned from Kristen and Gwain last episode, right?
The institution is crumbling.
The boundaries and building blocks of society are breaking down into dust beneath their feet.
And throughout the entire episode and the last few seasons,
Allison has had to walk into entire rooms full of men in various states of dress or undress
and get ogled or treated like coin.
or like a broad mare.
She's Monica Viti's character in Laventura.
Reneira is supposed to help create this world that might change that,
and that's why Allison is going through all of these motions,
spending all of this time trying to somewhat undo what her family's done to give her that throne.
Yeah.
I know that this has been like a contentious scene,
but like I do like the question that our friend Noah,
who came on for the Samuel Tarley scenes,
and there also goes by the,
the handle
Saman...
Scenes?
They were technically
scenes.
They were just scenes
in a book.
They were
chapters.
Goes by the name
Samantha Tarley
on
X, no,
sorry, on Twitter.
And I'm going to say it.
It goes by the handle
Samantha Charlie on
Twitter and like,
you know,
kind of questioning, like,
what do we mean by like,
what makes us sexy
and, like,
all sexual assault scenes, right,
are arguable?
gratuitous. Like, what do we decide?
Like, arguably
sexual assault in and of itself
is gratuitous. But, like, as you're saying about the
boundaries breaking down, this is also
very much what happens during, this is
the reality of what happens in, like, a time of
war. Like, I'm not saying, like, this is, like,
literally research that
violence against
women goes up, gender-based
violence goes up during
conflict. And I think, like,
you think that certain people are
reason from that, but like when they grow up in this kind of society, are they? Like, you know,
I think it was interesting that they threw in at the end of that detail that Jasper Wilde has,
like, a lady wife and still try to do this to Allison, right? And then it kind of feeds in well
to like why Allison makes these moves of like using Helena's smallest bit more power as a true
queen because she's therefore like tried to like be put in her place as just the queen mother.
Yeah. Right. Like, and I do think there's a great contrast of how this
scene operates, especially because then it cuts right to Rainierre getting ready to take
Kings Landing, but it operates really well in contrast with the beginning of the episode, right?
Rainira is grieving. Someone tries to do what would actually be seen as like maybe a normal
and nice to an extent. Um, gesture, but like Sir Lauren did try to like pull her off, right?
Tried to control her body in a way. And she throws him off and says, how dare you set your hands on me?
how dare you? And Allison is not given that. Like the moment that the door closed, I don't know,
like, did you feel like what's going on here when the moment the door closed behind him?
The moment the door closed, I figured that he was going to attempt to assault her or assault her
because that's what usually happens when a man closes a door and menacingly walks in a room
speaking to you in a weird tone. Yeah. Well, that's true. I guess like, I'm like wondering,
like, was it telegraphed so explicitly to have everything?
or did only like women see it telegraphed?
Interesting.
That's what I'm curious about.
Yeah.
I don't know.
But at the same time...
I don't know about that.
I think it can be telegraphed either way.
Like, you know, body language and totality.
Yeah.
Because we're shown it's depiction a lot.
Yeah.
On rewatch, especially considering episode one, like, episode nine.
Especially considering episode one, the themes.
are there. Like, I see it, and I see how it loops in, and I see, like, you know, I'm going to bring this up here, actually, and then you can just go into it.
You know, very much reminds me of Circe. It reminds me a lot of the Blackwater and a clash of kings as we have, like, Circe preparing the castle for a siege.
It was kind of the anti-sege, right? In a way, Alicent prepares them to not have a siege.
in a way she brokers a peace deal in a way
so that their castle doesn't have to fall to rape
but the people that don't know and aren't in on it
like for example
Jasper Wilde he assumes that the laws are off
right he does assume I mean that's a big part of it too
and I think maybe that wasn't made as apparent
but he assumes all laws are off right now
yeah which I guess is part of like
the master of laws yeah that's the irony
the fucking iron rod
iron rod yes
I think, yeah, I guess that's meant to be what they're playing with there, right?
Like, it's meant to be the hypocrisy of it all.
And, like, that you brought up Circe at the Blackwater.
That speaks to what you're saying, right, of the boundaries of everything breaking down.
But it made me actually think of a Circe scene in the books that's later on in a feast for crows.
And we discussed this at length.
It's CERC 9 in a Feast for Crows.
When she's having one of the kettlebacks, she's having Oznie.
kettle black and scheming to have like him fuck marjorie which again literally i don't know like
why she thought any of these plans would work um but desperate yeah well like that she thought that
marjory was seduceable i'm like is this guy even hot like anyways um her harwin strongs all three
of them right i'm like they're they're not all harwin strong i don't know the way they're described
in the books like you know
No.
No, one of them's an asshole.
Yeah.
This one is more of an asshole than the others, to be fair.
This one's absolutely an asshole, right?
Because we have this moment of like, the queen was taken aback.
The last thing she expected was piety from a kettle black.
And she goes, are you refusing to obey me?
And then Ozni says, like, you know, that he wants more from her.
He's suggesting that he wants to like fuck a queen.
Right?
And it goes with, she almost slapped his face.
Almost.
But she had gone too far and too much was at stake.
All I do, I do for Taman.
She turned her head and caught Sir Osni's hand with her own, kissing his fingers.
They were roughened hard, callous from the sword.
Robert had hands like that, she thought.
And then, which tells you how she would feel about this, because as we all know,
CRC famously did not enjoy having to be assaulted by Robert.
Do that marital duty all the time, right?
And then, Osni then thrust his fingers inside the bottom.
of her gown and yanks, and then the scene cuts off at the end of this chapter in a Feast for Crows,
because it's kind of cutting away from it.
It becomes a structural way of showing, as Chloe talked about it during our coverage,
Circe's dissociation, because she does not want this, she feels coerced into it.
And yet, as the queen regent, as the queen mother, she still has no power over her body in this
moment, and it makes me, again, think of this scene.
with Jasper. You think that people are like, what, he's going to throw it all away for like this one moment?
I'm like, like, that this, like, the penalty would be death. I'm like, I don't think you understand how devalued, like, that the station does not matter in that same way for, for someone like this in the world that George is built. I'm not saying this is actually what it was like, you know, in history. But like, in this society, no matter the title, no woman is exempt from that.
Yeah. And seriously. Abs of fucking lootly.
Yeah, and Circe he's reminded of it.
The point is the sexual violence is meant to humble, right?
It is meant to reassert power.
And that's why it is used as gender-based violence, even against, like, you know, people who are born of, like, born as, like, boys or men, right?
Like, that's how it happens in times of war.
And then one more thing that I like is, like, there's this tweet by Muriel's Wedding on, and that's
says the concept that Allison is the only female character to experience persistent sexual violence
is so absurd. Misaria was a literal sex slave. Rainier was groomed by and is in an actively
abusive relationship with her uncle. Helena was forced to marry her brother as a child and carry
his children. Alice is about to enter into a sexually coercive relationship. The confrontation and
critique of sexual violence and how women navigate sexually violent hierarchies is a major
theme of the show. The writers are not
writing about it just to jork off to it.
I also like that they's jork with an
O, but yes.
That is very up your
alley that you like that.
That's very you.
As soon as you said it, I knew you were going to smile
about it. Yeah,
that's exactly it, right?
It's not a bug. It's a feature.
That's what the society fucking comes
with.
And of course, it all
wraps into that deeper look
at what Rainira, you know, what Renira taking the throne really means that's shattering
that system in a lot of ways. Or maybe is it, will there be a lot of concessions question mark?
We'll find out. We'll find out. We'll find out. But, you know, butter emails. Um,
butter ravens. I want that of a shirt. Wait, I do like that. Especially because, interestingly, though,
guess Agan and Larry's are with the Ravens.
There's something there.
Uh-oh, they're going to read those ravens.
They're going to read those ravens, dude.
Definitely had some Game of Thrones vibes going on, too, with the internal kind of
coop going on, the coup.
Oh, yeah.
The palace coup in Agat at the end and, like, found that very interesting.
I also, I thought Helena did very well and had, like, a little joy at having some command
And I like that she was like, don't harm any beasts.
Wow.
Is Reneira a beast?
Question mark?
Yeah.
You know, because war makes monsters of us all, the dragons.
That's interesting.
I don't know.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Also, her little smile when she's giving commands.
She's so cute.
Yeah.
And Alicent, like, being there with her.
Alicent, no one's there to, like, protect her when she wields power,
but she wants to ensure that someone is there for Helena the way that no one was there for her.
Yeah.
Well, okay, so I have one other thought.
I don't know if it's a thought or a question or a statement.
Curious your thoughts.
Maybe it's nothing that matters and maybe I should just not do it.
But, you know, we get kind of each scene of Allison manipulating like Amund and telling him what he needs to hear in order to go to Heron Hall.
And then right before she gets Helena to go to the battlements, she tells her, you know, I want to redeem myself for you.
I want to redeem myself and give you, you know, what you want, not what you deserve, but what you want.
Like, perhaps, yes, that is true.
But I took it very much also as a mirror to get her to go to the battlements and tell them to do this.
Oh, like as in like a parent saying, all right, I'll take you to like ice cream if you like do this thing.
Yeah.
Because there's, I don't know, like, she really does believe maybe delusional.
I know she bought Jehira and Helena's safety, but I don't know.
I think it can be two things, but I thought it was very similarly framed to last episode with Amand when she's like,
you're such a beautiful baby boy and nothing you've ever done is wrong ever, and I love you.
Now go to Harron Hall where you're safe.
Yeah, I think there's a little bit of both.
Of it, as well as, you can see that she does, like, actually care about Helena.
That's the one that she stays with.
She doesn't try to stay, doesn't try to send away.
And also, like...
That's true.
You hear a lot.
And people can manipulate people they love.
That's true.
I think that's, like, a really, that's a very big statement for and theme throughout this whole show.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Wow.
Family.
Family is complex.
You could love someone and manipulate them.
Yeah.
I do it all the time to my roommate.
Oh, interesting.
I think I're going to say to your cats.
Yeah.
That too.
I do that too.
Yeah.
It's a, I'm curious to see, like, how else that shakes out just because, like, I do hear a lot about, like, mothers who are raised, you know, who are about our age, right?
And by that, I don't, I don't mean child, I don't mean child mothers.
I don't mean teen moms.
I mean people who are, like, millennial age or how they are questioning, you know, like, like,
Like, a lot of, of course, millennial women tend to, like, question, I guess, a lot of those gender norms and stuff, but they very much are so trying to, like, reevaluate.
What are the patterns and dynamics I grew up with?
Because they don't want to pass it down explicitly to their daughters.
They want their daughters to have something different.
So.
Yeah.
Yeah.
A lot going on there.
Yeah, lots to unpack.
Let's unpack it at Queensland.
Rear and your triumpet?
Hirstery.
Yeah.
What if you opened fire and blood in the chapter titles said Hirstry?
Actually, that would slap.
That would be incredible.
Yeah, I think George should think about it.
You know, in Queens Landing, in the crowd, the people, the rioting people that are trying to get the fuck out.
They're not rioting, but there's going to be a riot if they don't get the fuck out.
Too many people, trample, trample, baby.
I don't want that.
I would never want that.
It's like terrible to even think about.
Maybe it's up there in one of my fears, trampling.
Do you think they'll have the shepherd, speaking of trampling?
Yes, because, and why I think that, I'm about to tell you why I think that they will have the shepherd.
So a couple things happen in the crowd that if you aren't paying attention, you will not see.
Hughes' wife, cat is in the ground, and you see her, like, look up at the swooping dragon.
Cut.
So see her at Tumbledon, right?
She's off to see her brother at Tumbleton probably and get the fuck out of this city.
and then Madam Sylvie
You see Madam Sylvie
She's out there
She's one of the people
That one of the dragons is swooping over bro
Yeah
So like Madam Sylvie
Sylvana
Madam Sylvana
I think they're gonna do Shepherd too
How else?
I agree
But you're gonna get Moon of the Three Kings
You have to get the Shepherd
I do think we're gonna get Moon of the Three Kings
especially now that we have like Sylvie reminder
I don't know why
Like I'm stupid
I thought that what was gonna be in that cell
that was a gift from Larry's was going to be one of the like little
the little bastards.
I don't mean like the little like Targaryen bastards.
The child ones.
Yeah.
Or like one of the, yeah.
Interesting.
You know.
Oh.
I was wrong.
True fire.
Yeah, yeah.
That's very saw.
That's very like, do you want to play a game?
Open it up.
Well, I thought.
I was a true.
Were we supposed to get fucking like the ones who walk from Omalis?
Who walk away from Omalis like about it?
I don't know.
I did like that.
I liked that.
I love that he finds Jasper first and he's like, great, whatever,
and then the smile on Matt Smith's face when he finds Otto.
Yeah.
This was, man, has there ever been?
What a good closing scene.
Like, wow.
Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, wow, Christmas for everybody involved.
Even just the taking of Kings Landing I really enjoyed.
They appreciated how it's very unearned.
intentionally.
Her entire reign is being set up on something unearned,
which makes the foundation shaky,
which means you know it's going to fall soon, right?
They just walk in.
Despite Allison being the one that has paid the price for it,
and during it and after it,
and that even that, like, taking of the throne isn't equal.
It should be Agin's head,
but Damon insists Otto can be the substitute.
By the way, the whole scene I was like,
this might be why many folks did not want Damon around the throne, by the way.
Like, maybe him as a right-hand man isn't good on the throne.
Yeah, that's true.
He insisted that Otto be that substitute for the sins of the grandson, right?
And it's unstable.
Her throne isn't safe.
It's not hers.
It's almost like a cheat, right?
Like, not to be superstitious, but it's a cheat.
This is all on shaky ground, and it will be taken away from you.
It was very well done, as you said, like, understated.
Honestly, like, I kind of think, I know that, like, Agin is, like, there for the, the representative of that regime.
And then it would be Aymond.
But, like, I do think, I do think Otto very much is culpable and can be a substitute for the sins of the grandson.
No, that's true.
That's true.
He was so mean to her as a kid.
A big detractor.
Yeah.
Definitely a big detractor, now that you say it out loud.
Big detractor, arguably, like, I don't know, he didn't seem like that respectful of Emma.
He was always talking shit about, like, Rainira to her dad.
Yeah.
Shit, that wasn't even true.
She was just, like, a normal-ass teenage girl.
Just parroting shit.
It was, like, despite being intentionally anticlimactic, right?
And the withholding of that catharsis, I do think, like, there were a lot of, like, really great scenes, though, in this whole taking, like,
I did love the shouting of the line of
who downstairs rise against us in our
house? And I was like, yes.
Yes.
Dude, nothing but killers from Damon this episode.
Nothing but killers also.
Yeah. I was also pretty annoyed
that Rickard Thorne was all like, I've never seen a woman
holding a story. I was like, dang, how do you think that
this whole kingdom got taken in the first place
by that other sword that's like literally in front of you, Dark Sister?
I've seen people pointing out, I've actually
never thought about this much, but that Vesnia
was clearly, you know, probably
the better like martial warrior than agon she was like again like i can't fucking protect you all the time
we need kingsguard you stupid bitch um and record i don't know also saying i thought this stood out to me
rickert says that the prince regent will not stand for this and yet rainier is like bring me agin right
it shows that there's a disconnect between what's going on within the greens faction there's a divide
of power of who they're actually following.
And like, we already kind of knew that, but it is interesting to see it flow down to the other
people.
But also, like, the Prince Regent won't stand for this.
Okay, well, you know who's not here?
Yeah, the Prince Regent.
Answer carefully now.
Yeah.
What's he going to do?
Like, you know who just landed with four big-ass dragons outside your door?
Yeah.
Five.
Us.
Us.
Yeah.
It's like, well, cool, he's not fucking here.
What's he going to do?
I don't know.
Like, have mommy issues.
Whatever.
How about New Harwin Strong just dropped on the gold cloak squad there, right?
Harwin Jr. looking awfully hot today at his post.
Okay.
I was kind of surprised.
I was like, where have you been?
I would like to subscribe to his.
newsletter.
To his substack, to his beehive.
Yeah.
To his beehive.
Whatever people are, is that a new one?
Yeah.
It's spelled B-E-E-H-I-V, I think, or something like that.
It's like sub-stack.
It's a sub-stack competitor.
B-E-E-H-V.
Beehive.
Whoa, two eyes.
Oh, my bad.
I did it wrong.
Wow.
There's two eyes for you and I.
That's where the Beesbury's post.
Yeah.
Aw.
That's our legacy.
Real.
The rats in the black cells have grown rather big.
Oh, Damon, getting to pop another great line.
There were some great dialogue pools.
Yeah.
Good David Dangers.
We'll take a few line reads.
Damon was on it.
If there's one thing that Matt Smith can do,
Matt Smith can just snatch up a line and just eat it in front of you.
He's a killer for that.
Yeah.
Renier.
I love his stupid, like, cat with a mouse in its mouth grin, too when he says it.
And that we're getting Larry's playing both sides.
That's beginning.
That's awesome that he left them this present.
Confusing.
Why did he do it?
He's so random.
Fight every battle.
No, Larry's does fascinate me in terms of, like, what are his motivations?
and they have since like fire in blood.
I am curious and I'm excited that we get that, hopefully.
And I know people really wanted, like, Otto's line about, like, the rat and, like, Amand and whatever.
But I do like...
I do like the irony in Damon getting to call Otto a rat because, like, that man hates rats
because of baby Jahars' murder.
I didn't mind.
I don't need the...
While the rats play line and I don't need it to go to him.
You know, I did need, like, maybe...
I needed the gold club.
more lines from Otto.
Okay.
I did need, like, maybe, like,
you know, one little monologue.
That would have been nice from Ristophons.
Yeah, he is really good at them.
It was kind of, that was a bummer.
I thought it was also, like, I just assumed that he was just so good,
that he was too expensive.
Yeah.
That, like, they didn't have the budget to have him in more moments and stuff.
But I also, yeah, if there's a line that I wanted,
in there, it would have been like a more,
the gold cloaks line was fine.
But I wouldn't have hated like a more
faithful version of it.
That's fair.
Yeah.
Well, off with his head, dance till you're dead.
Heads will roll.
Heads will roll.
That's a poem.
Yeah, it's going to become a club
up in the throne room.
Dance till that's dead.
You know, the OG
Hand who died, Ned. No, it's Otto.
No king of mine, kill me and be cursed, right?
Like, that was Rob's first chop, chop, very cars dark with it.
Even the way, I love the way that, like, Ranira looks at Damon for a second.
She's like, oh, wait, you mean I have to do it with this sword, with this strap?
That was definitely, like, such a, the scared look in her eyes and kind of, like, also the
panic was totally reading through for a moment.
Because also, she's like in a haze through all of this.
Adrenaline is just like pumping through her body.
Her entire life has just been upended once more, as you mentioned, for like the fourth
time of four weeks.
So this cannot feel easy and she's not probably in her right space.
And now she has to kill her childhood best friend, which as Misaria reminded us this
episode that they knew one another as children.
They were just girls together.
They were high school sweethearts.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Also, Otto died not knowing his family lived.
That was crazy.
He died thinking Renira killed them all, which, no.
Actually, she really doesn't do much of that, but she is the cause of.
Yeah.
I think it's interesting that he's like, I assume everyone's dead, and that's what he thinks.
And you know what, honestly, I don't mind that he thinks that he thinks that.
everyone said and that he lost. Let him think that all of his actions were for not.
Yeah, bring him back and we'll whack him again, you know?
Yeah, for real. For real.
Fuck that guy.
No, I don't love, yeah.
I love the way he looked around and like kind of sneered when he came and he looks at
everyone that's there and he's like, yeah, this is about what I figured. Like, you know,
he thinks they're pathetic.
He's very good at it. It's absolutely like what you would think Tywin losing would be like,
you know, Taiwan sneering at Tyrion as he comes in.
Tai losing?
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's pretty much what, I mean, that's also what Taiwan does.
Tie Lose.
Same with Otto.
Regarding the beheading scene, like, I like this tweet from Sappho's.
It's spelled S-A-P-P-H-O-S-Z.
Amazing.
I don't think people understand that Rainira is supposed to be hesitant.
about killing Otto. It's not in her nature to be cruel, even to those who deserve it. Her executing
him is the stepping stone of her descent into a queen that has to do horrendous things to keep
her claim. And I'm like, I agree. Like, did people like not get that? And this tweet, though,
did make me think about, like, it being somewhat of a callback and reminder of her during like that,
like great hunt that they all went on to celebrate Egan's like second birthday and how she lets
like the white stag or whatever it's fucking actually called like live it's essentially that
even though it would have proved that she was the true heir right no one sees it she has no claim
for that legitimacy because she does not choose cruelty and while in the past she has refused
that violence now she feels she has no choice she's in public she must demonstrate that violence right
as you said, like Rob Stark, Rob Stark hours, Theon Greyjoy hours, but...
Rob Stewart.
I know.
Did you just say Rob Storke?
It was not intentional that my mouth just slipped.
You can leave it in.
Rob Stark and Theon Greyjoy Hours, but...
Yes.
It also makes me think of like, this is something that Noah wrote about in an essay of like,
look, not all societies are set up like this, but in West.
Westroces society, violence is the equivalent of masculinity, right?
In order for Rainier to be king slash queen to be ruler, right?
She...
I mean, I was with you.
I know, I know.
She must...
She has to participate in the performance of violence.
This is how...
This is the opening, right?
this is the rite of passage for the young boys for Brands Stork.
You know, in that first A Game of Thrones chapter, it's how you buy your way into power.
It's meant to make you question, right?
Like just as, you know, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government,
maybe having the ability to also be a headsman along with a governing person, maybe that's all
also not a basis for a system of government.
Maybe the man shouldn't pass the sentence and shouldn't swing the sword.
I understand it sounds really good in theory, you know, from Ned, but then I'm like,
but what about, I don't know, what about Darren?
I love Darren.
Exactly.
The shot of the throne in the blood, that reflection, that's what it's about.
As Reneura trapes is through the blood, through the memory.
the broken childhoods, all of the traumas,
and walks to that throne and ascends it,
shaking, trembling upon it, not composed,
tears in her eyes as her childhood, I mean, best friend,
her childhood lover, is in front of her.
Good luck, babe.
I also was thinking about it when you were talking about it earlier.
I was like, wow, this would be, this goes really well with Chloe's good luck babe tweet.
The moment, like, it's her, like, Allison's big brown doe eyes, and it's just, like, on that frame before end of episode, I was like,
did that thing?
Yeah.
You would have to stop the world, just to stop the feeling.
There's a lot of feelings to stop in this scene.
It also makes me think of a Cardi B's song, and her having, no, I'm being so serious right now.
I'm like, those are our bloody shoes. And like, I don't know, that line hit so hard.
These is bloody shoes.
That song was amazing. I know I'm being very serious.
All right. Apparently, people are mad. She wasn't cut by the throne and they're critiquing the show because of it.
And I'm taking away your license to critique the show because if you took that line from fire and blood at face value, you also clearly miss the point of fire and blood.
So, like, you know, in the words of Chloe, open the schools.
Yeah, please.
I'll tell you about a different kind of being able to read.
All right, I loved, you know, this is like actual, like, fucking reading.
So there's a beautiful mirroring of the camera shots throughout this entire episode
that goes together with the arc that Reignera has from finding the will to take Kings Landing
to what does it actually mean to follow through with that, right?
Like, as she's getting ready and we come away from, like, Allison's near assault,
it, the camera, it's also in the trailers, like, pans downward over Rainier's face,
and it becomes shrouded in shadow.
And it's, like, a shot that we've almost never seen, right?
In this show, the way that, like, it's kind of very, like, slow and close-up and cinematic
in that way and just very fluid.
And she's stealing herself.
And that exact same movement is mirrored here in the throne room, right?
The transformation is complete.
No longer she's shrouded in darkness.
She is completely in the light.
Her face is no longer like resolute.
It is horrified.
It no longer has that conviction.
But this is, this is it.
This is the same person and what the price was.
And here you are beholding.
And there's like this beautiful pause.
before she actually starts ascending the staircase to the Iron Throne.
I'm sure people have taken screenshots of it.
I haven't seen it yet, though.
Like, more than once we've seen, like, her stopped,
or, like, people stop around the...
In front of the windows of the throne room, right?
And their head is, like, framed in the circle that's there.
It feels very, very saintly.
And that, like, this is just the beginning.
We've only just begun...
of the end.
Oh.
Not unlike how Alice spoke to day.
Oh, my God.
To live, to die.
So many promises.
They make you swear and swear and swear.
Oh, my God.
But yeah, this is just the beginning of her short reign, you know?
Like, this is the beginning of the horrors that she will experience and dull out to others on that throne.
And, like, also that the blood that the blood god is.
asking for is not satisfied
yet. You know what I mean?
Like, the throne drinks
heavily. It drinks
drinks more than a
reachman upon the red wine aisle,
you know, up in the sea
of the cellars of the reachman.
That should be a show. Overflowing
with, you know, I'm out here.
They should do like an HGTV
Wester's show.
Elena could
raise chickens on it.
Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Whatever the
fucking
Tumblr that was.
I really
loved that use of the organs
in the music as Reneer took
the throne. There's a lot
of dissonance going on with the organs
and it reminds me of light of the seven
in season six finale
as well as John Aris
Boat sex. Do with that what you will.
Yeah.
I guess the John Aris
boat sex makes sense because it is
the coming, I didn't
mean the coming up.
The coming.
It is...
I think you meant it.
It is the joining once again of two lovers, right?
John and Tenaris and Rainier and Alicent.
Rannicent.
Yeah.
Well, you know what they say?
When it renaissance, it pours.
And the pouring his blood.
That's the way they like it.
Overall, really great fucking episode, though.
Like, I did leave the episode energized.
I left it, you know, excited.
the next week. I left it wondering how the fuck they're going to keep going with this.
Yeah. And we're going to find out together. Yeah. I appreciate that like, I mean, I obviously
enjoyed the episode. Many people did. And I think that's great. Like that many people are like,
wait, no, this episode actually does hit in like if this had closed out season two. Yeah, I see the vision
now. And I'm like, yes. Yes. So next week, we will start season three finally,
everyone.
I am curious to see how they keep the pace, considering this isn't season two.
It is season three.
And it's a different fitting box that they've stuffed it all within.
So I'm very curious to see what happens next week and where the pacing takes us.
Yeah, for all I know, I could completely switch my tune because I am kind of upset that it basically means we get the equivalent of like, we essentially get a six episode season three.
And then we're going to get a six episode.
Wait, are we really only getting a six episode season four?
No, it's going to be eight episode, hopefully.
But who's to fucking say?
I don't work there.
No, like, I am, like, deeply skeptical about it, I will say.
It's part of the bigger, grander conspiracy that nobody wants to talk about,
which is they are slowly conditioning us to have fewer and fewer episodes.
Dude, it is like, okay, New Rand, the inshittification.
The shittification of everything.
I'm going on about it, like, all the time.
Of everything.
No.
Of everything.
Everything is being inshittified.
giving you less and making you pay more.
And it's not only in this.
It's everywhere.
It's Chipotle.
Yeah.
No, literally it's happening to everything.
Look, open your eyes.
To everyone.
Open the schools.
Open the schools. Open your eyes.
No, like.
Wake up America.
Taco Bell is so expensive now.
Oh, don't even start with me.
Don't even start with me.
We'll be back next week to analyze, like I said,
season three, episode
three, whatever the fuck they're going to call it.
We hope you'll join us
there. As always,
I'm one of your hosts, Chloe.
I have been another one of your hosts,
Aliana.
Bye.
Goodbye.
