Starting point is 00:00:29 Hello and welcome to Girls Gone Canon, Watch's House of the Dragon, season three, episode five, unbowed and unbent. I'm one of your hosts, Chloe. And I am another one of your host, Eliana, and I just put it together. It's only unbowed and unbent because everybody's actually very broken. I get it. I see it. Broken AF, yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:00:54 Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Hey, if you're a fan of ASO-I-A-F, you might like our main podcast where we analyze, dissect, break apart the books, the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. One POV character at a time. Big distinction there. And we're on our last published POV. character, Balls in George's Court, just saying.
Starting point is 00:01:30 We're finishing up with Tyrion. We start Tyrion clash after Hot D. And so the time is now to get on board. The time is now. The time. You have no time because T.I. will come out and then you will not be caught up with Girls Gone Cannon. Like tomorrow, or like literally yesterday, of the time that this episode comes out and into your ears.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Like, look under your chair. Yeah. Look under your chair. It could happen. So that's like a potential spoiler for what's happening here on the episode. But let's talk about our spoiler policy for the actual series. We are, in fact, an ASO-I-A-F podcast. Do you know how hard it is to say all the letters so hard?
Starting point is 00:02:18 Just say ASWF. It's so, yeah, this is silly. This is silly. Yeah, so that means we, talk about anything that happens in all of like fire and blood and may potentially we'll probably talk about what will happen in the rest of the story so spoilers for that spoilers for all of aswaf the five main book spoilers for whatever we have of the winds of winter which again is like everything because it's going to be out starting yesterday and then of course
Starting point is 00:02:47 all of twi off and duncan egg I don't know what else am i forgetting game of thrones I forgot so Sorry. Game of Thrones. Yeah. Akatska. You know, like all of the cinematic Aswaffe universe, the paper one, too, the paper universe, all that, everything. Other George works.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Jesus Christ, you literally don't know what we're going to come up with. Knowing us, it could be anything. So come prepared. This is not a podcast for un-learned folk. I don't know. No, for the unsullied. Un-A-Swaffe learned people. Yes. The unsullied, yeah, that's what they call it.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Well, this episode was thick. Oh, my God, so thick. Wow. It was my controversial opinion. I don't know if it's that controversial. I thought last episode was thicker. Hmm. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:03:51 I'm not against that take. Okay. I thought there was a lot, like, the pacing and how much was. happening. It was, I don't know, I think of it like a pressure valve, right? Like you think of like the flow of a season and of the arc and like this episode and last episode, last episode was a little lighter on the pressure, but this episode you could feel the pressure on building. Actually, honestly, three, four, five has been a really intense run. Looking forward to what this is going to build up to is all I'm saying. It's definitely building. It's like,
Starting point is 00:04:28 like when your pressure cooker goes off. Yeah, it was. A lot happened in this episode that I was also like waiting for, right? Like I've been waiting for a lot of the beats we got today in a good way, in a good way. Okay. I'm excited to hear, I guess I can ask you what those were, but I guess you could also tell me as we go through them. What would you prefer? Yeah, I'm going to be mysterious.
Starting point is 00:04:51 You're going to hear about them throughout the episode, but there were just a few different beats of like, you know, Helena speaking. successively for a few sentences and making, it just doesn't need to make sense, but, you know, like actually saying some things and having a personality or like Bayla saying things. Or like, just some characters that I'm like, we're going to get something from them. I know we are.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I believe. And then we did. Yeah, that was exciting. We were like, I love these crumbs. Give them to me. Lapping them up. A starving person will eat on thing is all I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:05:30 It's so true. All I'm saying. Okay. We're going to go through comments again because we have them and I like them. So. Yes. We got a couple on last week's episode. Yeah, we have this one from Albert.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Albert says, planning out the order of karaoke songs to make sure your voice is preserved for the whole set. Eliana, your Filipina is showing. And I appreciate that. I feel seen. He's not fucking wrong Good fucking call out, Albert Our friend Jason
Starting point is 00:06:06 Who I just had the pleasure of seeing the Odyssey with By the way Yeah, and we went out for dinner after It was great Jason says By the gods, Sir Christian Cole Doing his pity routine the entire season It's like he's the first emo
Starting point is 00:06:20 In all of Westeros He decided to trade his white cloak for a black one That's good I get it, you know He's like When I was A poor boy my father was a steward to Lord Dardarian
Starting point is 00:06:34 That's what it's like Took me to see the king Yeah, I think so I'm just kidding, that song isn't even emo That's what's so crazy to me, like MCR hasn't been emo in so long The kids don't know that Yeah
Starting point is 00:06:48 No, it's completely different Jason though The kids don't even know Going to the Odyssey with them Jason is also a very Greek Greek mythological name Oh, get the fleece out Call the Argonauts.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Indeed. 9-99 the Argonauts. Ding, ding, ding. Yeah, I feel like we got a lot of payoff. Hey, our friend Dan wrote us again. Yes, yes. Dan felt that last episode was not a bad episode. See, Dan's only got their first name, and I'm like, all right, Dan.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Not a bad episode, but can you tell me why Ormond didn't hang dong? That wasn't very thundergun of HBO. Anyway, I don't know what it is, but white people love casseroles for some reason. I'm not sure science has come far enough to explain it. Thank you. I agree. This is what we're investigating now. Girls gone casserole.
Starting point is 00:07:46 And hanging dong. There actually is an explanation for this. There is in fact an explanation for this. And it's because it is in the same scene as Darren's actor. While it would have been filmed separately, because he is an underage actor, you are not allowed to have that kind of nudity implicated or whatever, like in those kinds of scenes with a minor or underage, whatever they call them in the UK.
Starting point is 00:08:11 No hanging dong with children. Which is probably like good to not. It's a good rule. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So that, there is in fact, an explanation. Maybe that's why I didn't get upset about that.
Starting point is 00:08:25 because honestly, after I read Dan's comment, I'm like, yeah, why didn't he hang Dong? I started to get really upset. Shout out to Thundergun, of course, with Always Sunny, too. Yeah, it just came to me right now. Wow. Not the hanging dog, the explanation as to why. I don't know why, like, suddenly, like, I didn't think about it when I read this earlier in preparation for this episode, but suddenly it's just like, you know, it awoke
Starting point is 00:08:52 MK Ultra style or some shit. I'm just saying this, because, Chloe and I were talking about MK Ultra yesterday. Oh, I know our Hunger Games coverage. You can hear about MK Ultra too if you join our Patreon at patreon.com slash Girls Gone Canon, where we're covering MockingJay right now. Yeah. Well.
Starting point is 00:09:14 And much more fun stuff, like other PTSD stories. Get in there. Yeah. I mean, Mocking J is very much like they're at the point in the story where we're getting like, you know, a little gorilla war. And that's what we're doing here in House of the Dragon, the Riverlands with Kristen and Gwynne. That was my segue. You really liked this.
Starting point is 00:09:38 I know what you were doing. I heard the segue. I choose sometimes to just not dignify it with a response. I don't want to reinforce the bad behavior. Of all of her sequins. I really liked the Riverlands stuff at the very beginning. It really, it put you kind of, it's... It put you kind of, it set the tone for the episode, right?
Starting point is 00:09:58 The warfare and the guerrilla warfare, and some would argue this isn't a very chivalrous or knightly thing to be doing to the enemy army. Some would argue that, you know, kill 10,000 men at dinner better than whatever, Kewen. Some would argue that. They're also wrong. But I liked the way this set the tone for the beginning of the episode. In the Riverlands, the winter wolves are delayed by the Greens Army, who keeps feet. fucking with them. But then the winter wolves have gotten smart
Starting point is 00:10:30 and they delay them back. Kristen's on a suicide mission and Gwain tearfully says goodbye to his almost lover. Yeah, I respect that Gwain was like,
Starting point is 00:10:45 fuck this, I'm out, but also I guess he's one of the few people who can do that, right? I do wonder would Kristen have stopped would he have stopped any of the other troops if they tried to leave because like on one hand they are sworn to stay there as knights but on the other hand I guess is it just like he doesn't have the power to stop someone as highborn as Gwain you know I don't know gawain there's also something really interesting in class I like
Starting point is 00:11:13 how they've been bringing up that access of class between Kristen and gwayne and that like for Kristen the king's guard was survival the title was survival and gwayne like sits there and it's Like, you can just come home with me, run away with me to my home, and you can work for my family. Why don't you want to just work for my family? Like, come on, you'll have a great life. You can work for my family. Well, what has working for your family gotten him so far? Laid?
Starting point is 00:11:42 I mean, first of all? Laid, yeah, that's true. No, that's true. Yeah. The Dorn exposition was really nice, though. I loved getting kind of some Dornish. exposition, not just from the Kristen plot, obviously later with Tumbledon again. But I can't believe we're getting Dorn in a Song of Ice and Fire show. It's never been done. Oh, yeah, like that they're
Starting point is 00:12:05 showing it and like that Kristen is kind of part of that legacy because he reminds us all that he's Dornish. And like, if you'll all remember in season one, they're like, oh, God, he's Dornish. And I'm like, God. Is he? But also I, and to that point, like him bringing up and using the language of unbent and reminding us. It ties in well. We are reminded of it by the time that Kristen says it. And I'm like, nice, nice. I see it. There's a vision here. I literally can't get over that we didn't get. We got more Dorn in this episode of House of the Dragon than we did in all of the Night of the Seven Kingdoms. Hmm. I feel like, I feel like they're setting it up maybe for it to come in. Maybe I'm just being hopeful, right?
Starting point is 00:12:51 but I'm starting to see that with this season, I feel like there are aspects of it that are in dialogue with the other parts of the IP, right, in terms of like, there are, like, there's, I know, like, there's a couple of things in this that make me feel like it is reminiscent of a Night of the Seven Kingdoms, as well as, like, even by going into Dorn so much, it's preparing us for, like, the thousand ships. series that's going to be coming out about Nymeria coming to Dorn. So I feel like there might be some intent there. I don't know, and we could still get Dorn in a Night of the Seven Kingdoms.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Yes, despite the lack of it so far, I would really like more. I'm excited. There's a lot of things that you and I have hoped for that we actually did give up on that have happened for us. So, like, I, I don't know what this, like, fucked up thing it reinforced in my head is, but I got a new thing. I love that Gwain gave Kristen his entire heart, and Kristen was like, nope, time to die.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I thought that was so beautiful. But also, like, Gwain, have you not been listening? Like, every single episode, Kristen has been, like, we will die, reaved in Dragon Flame, and our souls will see. no mercy for the crimes we have committed. Oh, well. And then he goes on and does the crimes again.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Oh, Gwain, he's just a little sweet, you know, just a little naive, I would say. What crimes do you think Kristen's talking about that he's committed? Because I don't think it's the ones that you're saying that he goes on to commit. I think he's just talking about having sex.
Starting point is 00:14:44 You think you're still talking about the sex? Interesting. Interesting. All of it, actually. All of the sex that he's had. Yeah, I think that's the sin. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:00 That's fair. That's fair. I mean, he did take some vows in front of the gods or whatever. I do love that call and response, right? Where he, like, to your point, he is romanticizing the entire situation. And, like, he's like, oh, there will be songs sung for me and Queen Allison will hear them. And it's like, A, no, there won't be. B, she won't
Starting point is 00:15:23 C, there will be no song sung for you, Kingslayer, because Roddy's going to deliver that line next episode. We still don't know his name, by the way, unless you're a fan. But he is going to deliver that line. I'm sorry to hit that drum. Like, not to hit the more drum,
Starting point is 00:15:41 like I'm a fucking Winter Wolf here, but, like, still don't have a name for him. No, I don't think you're wrong. It wasn't even in the subtitles. That's funny. How do you know? And to be fair, my roommate and I discuss this at length, like, let's be real. They don't care.
Starting point is 00:15:58 They're all at home, the people who don't know who he is going. That's Stark guy. That's a guy that works for the Starks. And I guess that works. That's who he is. That is who he is. And I have to be okay with that. Granted, I will say a lot of the people that I have watched with probably don't know his name.
Starting point is 00:16:16 But, like, Twitter will have me believing that everyone knows this guy's name, that everyone already has red fire and blood. So I don't know what to believe anymore. And that's bullshit because I know they haven't read it because some of the shit people are saying online, I know they've never read fire and blood. Wow, I didn't expect us to be spinning.
Starting point is 00:16:34 They've barely even read the wiki. So, fuck. They've barely even opened up the Westeros org wiki and looked at the AI photos that have been generated, okay? Oh my God, Chloe's like, open the citadel. Open the fucking
Starting point is 00:16:49 citadel. I do look forward to Kristen Cole dying next week, do you? I do, but I do think, like, it's been a fun run in terms of what they've been delivering themes-wise and everything. He's exceptional in this, and his role, like, I love the Shakespearean monologues each episode about how he's going to die, reithed in flames. Like, I love that. Do not get me wrong. I will miss that when he's dead. Yeah, and I mean like combining that with like what your point of they're finally giving us Dorn. I think I like that Condole has emphasized if you watch like the House of Dragons built, they talk about wanting to de-romanticize specifically these scenes.
Starting point is 00:17:39 And I think that, you know, they're kind of trying to channel George talking about like how the Vietnam War really. influenced him in terms of, you know, George's entire political worldview, as well as, you know, you can kind of see it come in when a song of vice and fire brings in these ideas of guerrilla warfare and, like, you know, George, like, kind of mashing it together with, like, the other things that he's magpying. So I like that Condal wanted to, like, weave that in, and there's also an aspect of it that feels, along with that. kind of post-World War I like World War I was this war that a lot of people like went into thinking it was going to be like other wars they thought it was going to be like the songs and the poems right and that they would be valorized etc but like it was a completely different style of warfare than many people had ever experienced before like the entire you know global like consciousness was shattered by this because there had never been a war on such scale they hadn't had trench warfare like that before they didn't have this like other kind of war of attrition where nothing really happens and people just get gassed, etc. So I think you're
Starting point is 00:18:55 kind of seeing that sort of segue in, I like that Condal's trying to bring that in. And I also think like Cole's speech, but I, you know, there are, there are themes. We say this like every fucking episode, there are themes in House of the Dragon. Like, you can see how all of the issues that Cole's talking about in regards to class what sort of opportunities he's had that he feels that he has no choice but to do this if he wants any like sort of like notoriety right like it it's interesting when you consider it in the context of like for example like agen and his lamentations that we'll talk about later on or like Luther Largent right and like he also very much someone who who had nothing when all of this started and I mean he has
Starting point is 00:19:48 nothing now because he's dead but whatever. There's this song in Bob's Burgers that has become a huge vocal stem in my household where Linda Belcher is singing about Harry Truman being dead in the ground. It's like a jingle that she has sung with her family
Starting point is 00:20:06 up and she's like, where is Harry Truman? He's dead in the ground. Dead in the ground. So like anytime you're going to talk about someone dying in this show like Luther Largent, I apologize because you may just hear me underneath you going dead in the ground, dead in the ground. He's not in the ground yet.
Starting point is 00:20:25 He's at the table. Highly recommend. Dead at the table. Dead at the table. The Harry Truman song features in Bob's Burger Season 3, Episode 10, Mother-daughter, Laser, in case anyone wants to know where that stim is coming from. It's a great episode. It's where Linda and Louise have to bond, and it doesn't go great at the beginning.
Starting point is 00:20:49 But at the end, it does. What you're saying about, to the battle and how it's framed and how they've been actually showing these battles as they progress through this season. And last season, something I've been thinking about a lot is looking at battles from Game of Thrones like
Starting point is 00:21:05 the Blackwater, like the Battle of the Bastards in season six and seeing what a spectacle it was and seeing just how like John Snow with his sword. It's the big moment. And so comparing that to next episode with Butchers ball and how they frame Kristen. Like the fact that we are framing Kristen Cole this way and everything
Starting point is 00:21:28 he's done just for that moment. And then in the end, he did not shit gold kind of. Same kind of idea, right? No songs were sung of him. You were a piece of shit and now you're a piece of shit with arrows throughout you. Yeah. There was no, yeah, there were no songs sung about him, but they do bring him up in the Dornish chapters. You'll see Kristen Cole again in Avengers Endgame. Vengeance, Fire, and Blood. Avengers Fire and Blood. That's what Doren Martel said. I heard him.
Starting point is 00:22:01 Uh, you know where else people hear things, Eliana? Where? Within the great walls of Heron Hall, which is where we're going to go. More like Heeran Hall, get it, because we're hearing things. I don't. I don't get it, because I don't choose to. I'm choosing not to. In Heron Hall, Alice hides Amand from the rogues that are looking for a reward for his head.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Amand wakes from a nightmare of his brother and his sister's prophecy of his death. He calls for Mommy, but who is there but Alice Rivers. Later, Amon gets his shit together and fights off some of the attackers at the castle. This was everything I wanted. Interesting. I'm like, I think it is delivering everything that one could want. I just like don't love it, but I do think every time I see Amand, I'm like, that man's exactly where he wants to be. Yo, that's so funny because in my household, arguably, beyond me, if we were not counting my
Starting point is 00:23:08 tastes, the only scenes that would fucking matter are the Heron Hall Amon scenes. Like, I'm pretty sure my roommate just wanted to pause and watch only that. So that's so funny. We are in such opposite positions. I see this about your household. But I actually very much like it. Yes. It is, that is what's happening in my household.
Starting point is 00:23:31 I'm like, oh, are we just going to rewind, pause, rewind pause on Amund? But that's okay because I love it too. So, you know, for me, it's like a treat. I love Ewan Mitchell. He's killing it. I loved the acting when he was like flinging his body around the fucking room when he woke up from the nightmare, that entire little sequence of waking from the nightmare. I really loved that. Hey, some of the rogues that are trying to kill Amand that like crawled up the
Starting point is 00:24:02 side and were like, ah, we're here. They're from Pike, they said. So I'm like, we got Ironborn. Whoa. Yeah, that's funny. Bro, we got Ironborn. They're like hardly. They're very hardly in a lot of, They're like a little bit in the dance, but not very much. Well, and the fact that we also have heard about Joanna Lannister. Yeah, because it's like Dalton Grayjoy, right? Yeah. So we might get background ironborn. I didn't even catch that they were ironborn, but that is interesting and it makes sense in regards to them scaling the walls.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Like, granted, we don't actually know that the ironborn scaled the walls, but it makes me think. It makes me think... They're reverse. Oh, oh. That would have been a really smart thing to think. No, I was thinking about when, like, Ned and Jora and, like, all of them had to scale the walls on Pike when they were putting down the Greyjoy Rebellion. Got it. Got it.
Starting point is 00:25:01 I don't remember if Jor was there, but I know Ned did, and they had to scale those walls, and they talked about it. And Thoros. And Thoros. Yeah, it's Thoros, it's Thoros, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, and they had to do that because Pike is protected by those walls. Yeah. Because they are revers.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Honestly, like, yeah, A, their revers, B, they're probably good at it. Because, like, what else is there to do? They probably just, like, fucking climb the walls for fun as a hobby. I mean, they're throwing axes around to see if, like, they're going to chop off under their fingers, like, for funzies. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They do the finger dance.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Yeah. A little fun. A little fun for them. This is not the finger dance. None of you can see what I'm doing. but I'm finger dancing, baby. I'm finger dancing. I'll tell you all about the finger game sometime. It's a dangerous drinking game.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Alice, this episode, I liked very much. She was doing witchy shit instead of just being quirky, so I will trust the process. And this is like what I wanted from Alice from day one. So I hope we continue to get more of this. But if we put on our Watsonian caps, I suppose it makes sense, because before she had less power, right? She had less of a strong, ha-ha, position. And therefore, she had to play, like, nice witch
Starting point is 00:26:31 and fit into basically the Zoe Dashanalification of the maister role at Heron Hall. She goes, But from like a doiless perspective, shit was, shit was like quirky. Shit was quirky. So I'm glad that we've straightened it out a little bit when she gave her little speech about Heron Hall being thirsty and all that. I was like, oh, get it. Okay, mother.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Yeah. I'm curious to see, like, what is it that she wants about Heron Hall so bad? You know, because it doesn't seem like she's in it for many people. want it because they want the title and what it means to be like kind of a bigger lord in the Riverlands, right? We can see that it's contested in other scenes here. I'm like, what is, what is your goal, Alice? But I do like that she made all those baths happen. I felt like I was like, hmm, house when things are happening. Yes. I love that she could like control them in that way of making them fly. She like, she had the right magic snap to do it. She, she knows those bats.
Starting point is 00:27:41 Yeah. But what you're saying with, you know, why she loves that castle, in fire and blood, there are those brief lines that talk about her history that she had only ever had stillborns, but she was still the milkmaid mother of, like, she still, you know, cared for all the children of the castle. So it makes me think of the castle drinking blood, which also Amon feeds the weirdwood tree. I don't know if anyone noticed that, but I'm like, yo, you killed those guys right over the weirdwood tree. Yeah. Yeah. So it's growing stronger. We're going to see some freaky visions, maybe this season. Ha, growing strong. Also, like, but her having stillborns, like, in a way, she also had sacrifices. So the castle has eaten her, too. Like, she's a-
Starting point is 00:28:32 part of the castle. She's a part of like, she's the blood that's running through the veins of the castle too, especially like considering how long she may or may not have allegedly been there. And there's that line where she says, sometimes the child that grieves her is one a mother loves best. And Aiman says, who are you? And she says one that has been grieved. Hmm. Yeah. I, but then all of her children are still born. But I guess it means that she loves them all best. I don't know. But I like that idea. But that also, that they've all grieved her, like, their ghosts are all around her also.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Yeah, she did say it was full of ghosts. I like that idea. Something's up with that. I'm going to say this and I don't mean it in a bad way. It just sounds like it because people have turned this term into an insult and it's not. She feels kind of like, you know, you enter a new dungeon or place, like in a game. And she comes up every single time, like the NPC. with like a quest line or like
Starting point is 00:29:34 Yeah Yeah says something And I don't mean that in a bad way No like that's her role She is the MPC of the castle pretty much You enter for the quest to get Amon's head And there she is Try again later
Starting point is 00:29:45 Yeah but Amon has a different Quest His quest is romance the NPC He's playing Baldur's Gate That is not his quest His quest is make Um yourself come to terms come to terms about your mother.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Okay, yeah, that's probably true. He's failing the quest. With his head in Alice Rivers Titties, he is failing the test. I think I need to stop treating every video game as a dating sim. That's my problem. That's my user error. Gotcha. We'll work on that.
Starting point is 00:30:23 We will work on that with you. I loved Broken Amund. I love that like back to back. We aren't going to cover them back to back necessarily, but I love the back to back of like his scene and Egan scene and the broken brothers who think Mommy loved the other one more. When she doesn't love either of you two psychos, she barely loves the normal one.
Starting point is 00:30:45 No, she doesn't. She doesn't even like that other ones that much really either. And I loved Broken Aymn. Like, pathetic Aymn, Broken Aymn, crying for his mommy. That guy's got a huge noggin. I would hold that noggin all day long. Just, like, things huge.
Starting point is 00:31:06 Big fucking head. And then that shot of Vagar's eye against him, I really loved. I loved that shot where, like, you see Vagar's molten eye, and he opens his eye. Seeing him as that little boy again, backed into a corner surrounded by his cousins, surrounded by his brother laughing at him, his brother mocking him, pulling pranks on him. Team Amid, man, all the way. I'm back at it. Poor baby,
Starting point is 00:31:33 Meow, Miao. Amund, Targaryen, Gaius Balter, these are characters who have never done anything wrong in their entire lives. I guess not. I guess he hasn't. But yeah, I think maybe I just like feel I'm waiting to see what they're doing with Amon. And we're starting to see that. We're starting to see where they're going with that story. And maybe that's why it hasn't like, I'm not as invested yet. I was waiting for prophecy knife because she, he pulled it on her, right? Oh. When she like tries to tend to him. So like that prophecy knife, that dagger's going in the fire, baby. I want to see him.
Starting point is 00:32:17 Oh my God. Maybe I am almost Alice Amand-pilled. You know, our friend Maddie messaged me like, are you on board yet or what? She's kind of sick of waiting. And I'm like, no, I'm not. I'm not Alice and Amund. Like I'm not into it yet. But now I'm like, wait, I see the fucking blueprint.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Like, put the blade. Yeah, and they're going to see it too. Put the blade in the fire. Amon. Use your studies for once. Read the prophecy and decide that you're the one and mommy did love you best. She didn't. But decide that she did.
Starting point is 00:32:46 And your new mommy's going to love you perfectly fine. Just make a baby with her, a prophecy baby. You're going to be okay. It's going to be great. Yeah. I am also kind of what I'm. is she like hoping that Amund will give her Harrenhal or something. But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:03 And I mean, especially since his head is what would pay for Haran Hall, it seems that she's in a pretty good position. Yeah, that's true. I'm just, yeah, curious. And I do love, as you said, I'm like, Amid, she doesn't like either of you. She doesn't like you or again. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Arguably, like, Does she like Helena? Yes, but like, there's some more going on here, right? Like, there's some, um, some interesting stuff going on with our queens and chains. I think she loves Helena best. I don't know if she likes Helena. Exactly. She loves the idea of her.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Yeah, and that's the same with Darren, right? Like, she can love the idea of Darren because she's never failed her because she's never fucking talk to him. and that was all of us. And somehow yet she, like, created two children with anxiety. I don't know. Ironically, Darren's a lot like her. Absolutely. Probably because she let him go be raised by High Towers.
Starting point is 00:34:10 Yeah, this is what happens when you're raised in Catholic panic. Catholic gay panic. For real. That actually is, like, what that storyline is, or, like, a different kind of other Catholic panic, and that every single time Orman touches. Darren. I'm like, get away. Get away from him. Get a job. Yeah. Or get unemployed. Maybe we need to go little finger on it. You know, we're no longer promoting that he should have a job. Agreed. Well,
Starting point is 00:34:36 these people, they deserve to have jobs or to be retired. Unsure. Enjoy the queens and chains. No, being retired to be great. I fucking wish I was like early retired. I mean, I agree, but my God, Right now you're making it sound like they're going to go up to the farm up state where they can run and play No, I meant like literally like she gets a fucking claim I don't know, social security now We're not gonna we're probably not gonna No, there's no social security for us Just get that out of your mind now where there's no money left
Starting point is 00:35:14 We came into this society and like Thailand took away all the money just like 15 years too late you know if we had just been born a little earlier i mean 35 years too late is what i mean yes of course sorry we're like five years old helena refuses to take moon tea alicent drinks it to throw miseria off their scent alicent manipulates miseria after they're caught almost escaping they try to escape again but they're lost within the walls of the red keep dot dot dot dot dot dot I want to call it this line that really stood out to me from Helena. She says, I don't want it in regards to the T.
Starting point is 00:35:57 And I was like, well, I can't believe she's doing an impression of Chloe, doing an impression of John Snow. I can't believe that's where John Snow actually got it from. Helena, his ancestors. Oh, my God, that's so true. That's funny. That's very funny. I hadn't thought about that. I always think about it.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I do love that. I actually really love this scene for her. Helena, you know, Alison very much, and I think you're probably going to speak about this too, she sees her children as pieces to move around on the board a lot of times. And obviously she's in survival mode right now, but she's always seen them as somewhat of a means or somewhat of a way, right? And in war, that is how people become. but Allison treats Helena as like a movable object with no actual feelings and no actual desires. And while, yes, what Allison is doing is arguably the correct quote unquote move,
Starting point is 00:37:03 that's not how like humans and human desires operate, right? Like we don't just choose what the right thing is. That would be awfully boring. That would be awesome. So, yeah, it'd be awesome. but, you know, Helena, I love that she had kind of an outburst, right? It's mine. It's mine.
Starting point is 00:37:22 You can't take that from me. Helena's had everything taken from her, her entire life. She's been told to marry her brother. She's had no freedom of choice in that. Sure, she lived in the palace, and she was treated kindly, and had money and could do whatever she wanted, but arguably, she was made a child bride to stop sewing enmity. between parts of the family and like before they could marry people off to each. Like it was like a, it wasn't her choice.
Starting point is 00:37:51 In fact, her mother probably chose that in reaction to Reneira, as we can see in the show. So her getting some time finally to like push back at her mother and almost be her own person, allegedly maybe probably before she dies very soon. That's nice. It was nice to actually see her have a little character, instead of parroting, you know, recaps. Yeah, I thought that this was a really good Helena episode. You know, as you said, we got to give her a little character development before she dies so that we really feel it.
Starting point is 00:38:29 And I, yeah, I feel like she's been kind of, she's been treated as a pet, essentially, by the entire family. Like, she hasn't, no one's shown that much curiosity in who she is as a person. Even her own mother doesn't, her own mother's like, I don't know. I don't know what's going on here. And, you know, like, she projects her desires onto Helena, right? Like, she, as you said, she doesn't really treat Helena like a person. And same as how, like, she tries to move Agin around and true, move Aman. around like for Helena she's trying to move Helena into like what she wishes she could have had
Starting point is 00:39:15 in some ways like as in actually like a queen who arguably would have had a say but then never really like allowed Helena to experience that either right in terms of being like Helena we have to escape and you can finally be free and like live your life being whoever the fuck you want right all you got to do is leave your little girl behind and abort your kid right like these are these are not what Helena wants. Like Allison's just doing the same thing her dad kind of did to her, being like, you know, be an extension of me. Do this thing that I want for me, right?
Starting point is 00:39:50 Like, I wanted to be free. I wanted to have no kids. Right. It is totally her just putting her desires on top of Helena. And, I mean, arguably many parents do this in your life. as well, but there is like a certain extent of it where Allison says and commands and Helena does, and suddenly Helena does not does. Wow, like what is that? Helena has pushed back. She's turned 15, finally, just like us. Yeah, it's not a phase, mom. The caterpillar that eats
Starting point is 00:40:35 nightshade really stood out to me or the caterpillar that doesn't you know the caterpillars can eat the poisonous nightshade leaves and not die and helena says that in the godswood and she also takes it to look at it that you know it doesn't die despite being surrounded by poison which in some ways meta because that's like her right now right like she hasn't died despite being surrounded by poison but she will uh and then also interesting because you have like alison who ate all of the moon tea for Helena, right? Which is, quote, unquote, kind of poisonous in a way. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:16 So I thought that was kind of interesting to paint her as the caterpillar. The Alachuni, if you will. The Alachuni. Alchuni. Yeah, absolutely. And I like that the show showed that, you know, there is like a physical payment to it, right? It's not like just easy-peasy. some there is a cost and even if you aren't pregnant it is painful and I will say I know it's not meant to be humorous
Starting point is 00:41:43 but like it was a little funny Alison being like all right why am I dealing it here I go and I maybe it was meant to be a little humorous and because we as the audience know that there's an irony going on and it's already being like all right girl okay go yeah go piss girl Yeah, I actually rather liked the back and forth with the Mizaria and Alicent thing going on. That was kind of fun, you know, Allison playing on Miss, I mean, Mizaria has a big caricature and, like, profile she needs to keep up with, right? Yeah, true. You're not very, this is like a big break for you, working directly for the queen, small folk on small council, you know. Uh, woman, working more.
Starting point is 00:42:30 woman of the world and you're out here in the council. Like, good for you. But also, yeah, she does have a lot of insecurities and a lot of them are surrounding Damon. So Allison really, I was going to say pegged her. That's a different show. Allison really pinned her down. Oh, no, that's not any better. Allison really had her number on this one. I mean, yeah. And like, honestly, if it were any of those other things, that makes sense, too. Current girlfriend, it meets ex-girlfriend. Anything could have. happen. Oh, anything. Anything could happen. Knock knock. Who's at the chamber door?
Starting point is 00:43:08 It's bizarre. Like that line about how Amon burns without his fire, right? He's without his dragon. So she senses him, but not with his dragon. He burns without fire. But also, that implies she can sense him, right? And it makes me think of, like, warging and skin-changing, like, brand chapters where he can sense the other dire wolves or leaf and vera. Amir, right? And those passing lines we get. So very interesting. I thought that was kind of a fun concept of her weaving a fabricated web of magic in her mind and she can heat map her siblings if she wishes. Yeah. Again, very 11 in Stranger Things, but also I'm going to say, I have a new tinfoil.
Starting point is 00:43:54 I have a new tinfoil. I'm going to just jump ahead to like the end of like the Helena scenes of this episode. All right. They're in the tunnel. It's very dark. They lose the light in a cat comes about and I'm like okay we're getting the aria blind girl chapters because we didn't really get any like that much of the aria skin changing into cats in a song of ice and fire and we are saying that Ryan Condal is giving us feast dance so I'm just saying Helena I don't think it's crazy I mean I actually like that tinfoil a lot because I was thinking the whole time no I don't think so because I was wondering if she was going to use Dreamfire to help get them out potentially or something
Starting point is 00:44:35 and like sense Dreamfire you know and like follow the sense toward Dreamfire and like be able to see through Dreamfire's eyes or something to where it might connect to get them towards the Dragon Pit. I think it could be like both. You can jump from cat to cat and biggest cat
Starting point is 00:44:51 of all a dragon. Yeah. Oh yeah. There you go. I mean that makes sense to me. Yeah, I love that. I fucking love that. I think there's a lot going, like, what's fun about Helena's character is, like, I try not to overanalyze a lot of it because I think some of it's pretty cut and dry and will come up and, and, you know, it'll happen when it happens. And also, sometimes I don't feel like there is really a reason to be
Starting point is 00:45:17 trying to connect it super hard because they'll show it to you. True. Like, I like, I'm really interested in the insect ones, but even like when she said she wants to look at the moon, first of all, A, she's a captive. Of course, she would like to see some fucking outdoors for the first time and forever. But also be like the moon is very magical, right? It's a very like big figure in a lot of mythology, whether in universe or even out of universe. I even think of like in a game of Thrones when they say moon is no egg, moon is god, woman wife of sun. Helena is moon, right? Married to sun. It is known. Just like they say later, dragon so beautiful, they named him after the sun itself. So Helena is to the moon as Agan is to the
Starting point is 00:46:08 sun. And I mean, I think of like some of the deities in universe like moon pale maiden or the moon mother. So something interesting with the moon, uh, the moon being like a power of a source of power, a source of magic. I wonder if it's stronger at the moon, if she can actually connect with dream fire more. Mm-hmm. I mean, maybe. I feel like there's something there. Like, They're trying to show something like with the moon and like changes of the moon and like the changing caterpillars change, you know, or silkworms, whatever. Babies grow in your stomach. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Oh, true. Not mine. Nope, not mine. Thank you. Yeah. Thank you very much. Which brings us to the next discussion topic. Allison holding Helena's face, basically shaking her like, don't have this baby.
Starting point is 00:46:59 It will ruin your life. you guys ruined my life, get an abortion. You will get freedom. No children by the mountain goats blaring in the background. Allison's just like, have an abortion. It's pretty crazy, but also like, just because you have it in this line, I'm like, is there something there then with it being called moon tea and what you're saying about moon stuff? Yeah, there's moon stuff going on, bro.
Starting point is 00:47:23 And last episode, right, we had the moon at the eerie, the fertility of the impregnable eerie. That place. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, speaking of the Erie, also, like, this was very... Yeah. This actually, like, made me think a lot. And if you're listening to this and you've listened to us before, then you've definitely heard us talk about this multiple times in the past.
Starting point is 00:47:45 But I felt like... I felt like I was watching, right? The actual adaptation of the Hasser Tully, like Liza, Aaron Tully, forced abortion and stuff that, you know, we talk about now, like, in the fandom of, this was actually very fucked up of Hoster to do. It's taking away Liza's agency. When we talk about, you know, being pro-choice, that means women get to decide, like, what happens to their own bodies.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Like, you might disagree if someone wants to have that child, but she gets to decide. You might disagree if someone wants to have an abortion, but she gets to decide. Like, you have to, that's what it means to have agency over their own body. And Alicent, it just perpetuates that cycle of trying to take that choice away. way from Helena, right? By being like, Helena, take it, squeeze cheeks. And, um, yeah, I don't know. I was like, wow, they really did it. They really gave us that. I do. Yeah, absolutely. It was like, also it's such a choice to put that in there. You know, pro-choice is putting that kind of element from the book. Wow, pro-choice. Go away. I didn't, I didn't,
Starting point is 00:48:58 I didn't mind this. It could have been done really silly, but I think it was actually done well. And, yeah, especially for, as you said, you know, Helena having no choice as it is. Yeah. The agency, just like Liza, you know, Liza having it forced upon her, at least Helena had the choice to say, like, this is how I want to go. And something that I really felt broadly, not just in this plot, but in a lot of the plots in this episode, is the sense of building toward a finality that there are certain elements of the plot that they're building up and where they're leading since we tend to know somewhat the endgame of a lot of these characters
Starting point is 00:49:41 there are things that I think are good to fulfill for that character like I see what they're doing with Helena I see that they are boxing her into this room and she's going to be trapped in this room she's already freaked out once about wanting to leave it she's going to freak out again she's going to freak out again. The window, the window, the window. No way out. No way out except the window. Yeah. And I don't know if I, like, I forgot if we've brought this up already. We might have. But it is another iteration of, like, Allison and Helena, they're queens, but it's another iteration of the princess and the tower motif that comes up in a song of ice and fire. We probably brought it up, and I just don't remember because, like, my brain's falling apart. Or princess in the high tower. Kind of parallel to Daron in a lot of ways, too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:35 I find him very Sonsa Stark, Agat, in a few ways, too. That's true. He is. Especially, you know, men lecturing you. Yeah. It's another Sonsa finger, Laris Agon, Darren, Ormond situation. And you have another Laira-Gon. Yeah. And then, okay, so I thought this was going to happen last episode, episode four.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Allison started saying things like about what she wanted with Darren, and she was like, I want, and I thought we were going to get the like, you know, I want and it peters off, which is something that we talk a lot about also as a motif in the Song of Ice and Fire, how all the, like, a lot of the women characters, they say like, I only wanted this, I only, and then it goes, I want, I want and the lack of the ability to articulate it. And like, that's not what happened in that episode. She actually finished that sentence. but I want you all to know that I thought it. That's all. I love that. Thank you, Eliana, for sharing.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Very good. The Catalan I want. The Ariane I want. The Ariane I want. All three. I think Danny has one as well, so if not. We talked about how Danny actually, like, it was interesting because she's able to articulate at the end of a Dance with Dragons, right?
Starting point is 00:51:54 What it is that she wanted. I only wanted to be a young girl. right? That's all. Yeah. And that's what they want to say too, I think. That's what each of those women really wanted to say to. I only wanted... Now I'm going to cry. Well... Bro, they'll do that to you. They'll do that to you. Women in Eswav. For real. You know who has a lot of things that she wants? Rainier. And she especially has a lot of things she wants from her council. Yeah, talk about the ultimate I want.
Starting point is 00:52:25 Queen's Landing. Oh, this woman also wants something. Sabatha. Yeah, Sabatha demands Heron Hall, as was promised to her by a dead prince. So it doesn't matter now. No. But receives a seat on the small council instead. Consolation Prize. Vigar has been spotted around. No, go away. Vagar has been spotted around the realm, specifically near Wendish town. Rini Rha grows more and more suspicious of the attacks in town being connected with Vagar and the Greens, almost. But we'll get there. Bela and Adam search for Vagar.
Starting point is 00:53:05 Holy cow, was this not a Circey, Danny, Feast for Crow, Dance with Dragons, and Clash of Kings episode? For Reneera, this was what George meant by those contrasting Circy Danny chapters across Feast and Dance. Like, absolutely. And I'm really, really glad. that a lot of this happened soon on the heels. Like, I really love our read-through of Circee. You know, to plug our own podcast on this podcast, which I've been doing numerous times. Like, go listen to our Circe coverage.
Starting point is 00:53:43 I think, like, you know, there's a lot here that I come back to in that, watching these. And also, unrelated, Vagar showing up everywhere. makes me think of like in Pokemon golden silver how like Ente in Suoku and they run and they just like are around and you just like run into them randomly
Starting point is 00:54:04 throughout like the realm and that's what they look at you and they're like bye yeah I'm like no you're like no I want you Suakoon is my favorite
Starting point is 00:54:15 by the way did you know that of those I loved Pokemon Crystal so much I played the fuck out of that game like I would say it's my favorite of that era of gold, silver, and crystal. I'm the only crystal lover on the entire earth, so. I'm a Pokemon Gold.
Starting point is 00:54:33 Suicun Forever. Of Gen 2. I do. I just love Gen 2. I love Ho-O. I do too. I love Ho-O. I think I'm more of like, I'm more of an Ente person, but also, did you watch that
Starting point is 00:54:46 Pokemon movie? That one, like, really freaked me out. That one, like, really freaked me out. Oh, it fucked me up. I love that movie. I love Molly. Oh my god, Molly and Ente. We have floated covering it every note then. It's just so all of you know.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Spoilers us. Who knows what we're going to do unless George releases wins. Oh, my God. Well, at least we have a feast dance of Hot D. That's true. Until wins. We do. And, yeah, I love what you said.
Starting point is 00:55:20 It is very much like Circe struggling with her small council and other members. And also I think like you see kind of like, you're seeing as well a through line from season one to now, like the tunnels that Allison and Helena try to use to escape, right? It makes me think of the tunnels that Rainira like used to escape the castle with Damon and the night that he shows her, right? Those puppet shows, those mummer shows of like, look, no one fucking believes in your claim because you don't have a penis. and that kind of, I think, is a long-seated insecurity that she has, which plays into why she's so worried about this graffiti on the walls, right? Like, why she feels that the approval of the small folk, these public sentiments are core to her ability to reign.
Starting point is 00:56:19 I mean, these are the rumors that have plagued her since literally that night you just spoke about. Oh, that's true. That's right. I guess it did all start there. That is literally A, the night the rumors about Damon began and then her, and then B, the night she met Harwin Strong. Like, that is a very critical night to tie to this. Full circle. That's when all those rumors began. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:39 I mean. I see the vision Ryan Condole. Wow. Wow. And Sarah Hess. Sorry, not to only give him credit. Hey, we had a new writer and director for this, too. Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:56:52 We did. And yeah. So good for them. They also killed it. They fucking killed it. And I'm really liking that a lot. I mean, obviously we had a couple side scenes like Reneira pacing the hall to go to the sept and in the scept and, you know, leaving the council chamber and fighting with Damon.
Starting point is 00:57:11 But I like that a lot of Reneiro's plot is in the council chamber. Yeah. Especially since later, she's a lot more mobile. Obviously, after King's landing, she has to be mobile till she's asked. So, well, until she's food, actually not Ash. That's true. You don't want to overcook their food. Yeah, I feel like Sunfire is more of a medium, rare kind of gruelay pop, but I do like that we're in the council. That's a great setting. I loved Sabbatha joining the council, though, because again, I was wondering, it's one of those things that, like, in Game of Thrones especially, you're like, I wonder if they'll come back and they don't, like the one-off guest stars.
Starting point is 00:57:51 Yeah. Hot Deep brought her back. I'm like, so there's a you're telling me there's a chance for the ultimate Yuri. Like, you're telling me there's a chance still because then we have all the other characters coming towards King's Landing. So like,
Starting point is 00:58:07 Sabbatha could still anyways, I was really happy to see her return. I love the costuming for her. I love that the Riverlands is like slightly different in costuming and that you have kind of that very faith of the seven you have a veil it's very conservative and traditional in their outfits right they're wearing a hood and a veil and just like i don't know it's fun it's a fun contrast to the valerian lining
Starting point is 00:58:33 that we're seeing and then torren's northern outfit i like that we're getting a lot of these different cultural dress and wear at the council that's fun and her and torren's dynamic is fun they're gossipy little bitches uh i love that torren is the every man not just like for Sabatha, but for the audience, right? He's like, I know, they call her the white worm. He-ha-ha-ha-ha. Very fun. I love that they brought these characters into the council, because they both have very different roles. They're not necessarily on the small council, right? Torin has moved up earlier. He becomes a counselor for Egan, not necessarily right now for Renira. But I think this is a good change to put these characters into play and show them as political players from the realm,
Starting point is 00:59:19 especially being not the biggest secondary house, but like mandorlies are arguably the biggest second or third house in the north. And the frays are arguably growing very strong themselves in the Riverlands. They're important houses. They're not minor houses. Absolutely. I think this like plays really well with that tension that we're seeing even in like dance with like the merchant class. We have heard talk of merchant classes here. right? And even like how that plays into
Starting point is 00:59:51 the power that House Valerian used to have because they controlled so much of like that trade. House Mandrly, they are like they're in quote unquote new money house, right? House fray, part of their issue is like no one ever respects them just because they're not old, right? They are powerful and like they play a role that's kind of this new money house thing.
Starting point is 01:00:13 And that's something that George does kind of like explore with characters. like Littlefinger and other and like even House Mandurley right like in a song of ice and fire so honestly I think like I'm excited to see the rest of their dynamic because I would listen to Sabbath Afray and Torr and Mandurley's podcast I imagine it's like Drew Offalo and Caleb Heeran together yeah that's what I imagine it's like I love it also like it's a great especially thinking about the Mandarleys and their power you know, we get the whole entire
Starting point is 01:00:51 that Tumbledon that Ormond has minted Darren coins, which we'll come back to but like makes me think of the Mandarleys right? And Asawe for Rob they start to mint money for him or say they're going to open the mint. They don't open the mint because
Starting point is 01:01:06 you know Rob dies. What? They were gone to them. Spoilers. Yeah, spoilers. Yeah. I think the idea of Ormond introducing kind of a lot of paranoia is fun into Kingslanding, him kind of being behind the scenes pulling some strings. The greens are actually very splintered.
Starting point is 01:01:32 In fact, the funniest part of this episode is that we see that not one single green is on the same page. That's true. This entire episode. Each of them are working in silos. They all hate each other. Like, somehow, though, despite them working, in silos and not working well together and hating each other, each one of them is doing something
Starting point is 01:01:54 that is undermining Reneira's reign completely. They are all combining their bad management powers and still they are undoing the shaky ground that Reneera stands on. So I thought that was very fascinating. It's true. Despite, yeah, exactly right, staggering. Staggering. Despite being terrible at their jobs, they are somehow failing upwards. So good job the Greens. Ormond's paranoia really is good though, like having that kind of spread through the gold cloaks. That is a surefire way to destabilize the realm. Yeah. They're like, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:30 Oh, okay, we'll talk about it a little more and I think you have other things. I'm seeing it now. Ormond is Illyrio. And then there's someone else in there because they got like, they do have like kiddo spies. I'm like, oh, spy kids. Yeah. Yes, I was thinking that with. The little birds.
Starting point is 01:02:49 Yeah, it's so little birds. I'm like, I see it. Okay, this is, this is. It literally is the fake on plot. In fact, it actually is. And it's interesting because you have Ormond playing like John Conn and playing Illyrio in a way. John Con, though, in my head, he's very good at tolerating odors.
Starting point is 01:03:12 Like, that man has, like, lived rough. He's been through so much. What? He's, he has suffered so much. He has, he has, but I was thinking more of like the complex relationship with your son figure that's not your son, but heard, hurt on the smells. Oh, I mean, like, I just feel like, Ormond needs a much more lavish lifestyle than John Con. I'm like, John Conn is a survivor. John Conn, if he had to, could do what Kristen Cole was doing and succeed. That's true. That's true. That's true. You have a point.
Starting point is 01:03:52 Or, well, or at least fail. At least he would do it in fail. Or I'm just like glazing him. I don't know. Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on there, but other things that I'm starting to get more sure about what's going on there is. Bela and Adam are definitely going to be a thing until Alan dies and like, whoa, whoa, whoa, rewind, you know. So one change that they're going to be a thing. made and again, things that are starting to just make the wheels make sense to me of what they're doing in the story. Yeah, Alan is the heir in the show, but in the books, Alan is younger than Adam and Adam is the heir, right? So it's very interesting that Bayla and Adam are getting close here and having
Starting point is 01:04:37 maybe some friendly feelings as one would have with their new cousin. I don't know what we're going to call each other now. Uncle cousins? Uncle. Wait, hold on. In book, I guess in show it would be cousin, but anyways, I digress. All I'm saying is that, like, don't try to think about it. It'll hurt, honey, no, do it. Don't. In the book, they're arguably
Starting point is 01:05:01 cousins. Uncle. They are still, I guess their uncle, that's, you know, that's like they're half-uncle, her half-uncle, because Lena is the daughter of Corley's, and these are the sons of Corley's, so half-uncle. uncle
Starting point is 01:05:17 Okay Okay Half an uncle Hunkle Well Because that's where we're going Kind of fun that we have Like a Targaryan princess
Starting point is 01:05:27 Who is in love with her uncles Love that Nothing new there Wait In the book though Alan's not the air In the show he's the air So it's an interesting change
Starting point is 01:05:40 Considering that Adam will Die and she, Adam seems to be really caring for her very kindly, but it definitely seemed like a connection they were having and they were being very friendly and I felt some chemistry. So I'm like, are you going to date Adam and then he's going to die and then you marry Alan to solidify the house and then you grow to love him quietly despite his many cheatings? Yeah, I see it like that, but I kind of wonder if it'll go kind of differently and that like,
Starting point is 01:06:12 you know, she and Adam, same start, right? You know, they build like a love as a, they're just out there as soldiers and, you know, spending a lot of time together with their dragons. I mean, their dragons looked very close. They are very close and he's out there being like, and we're going to run away together. But in a way that's cool, unlike when Kristen Cole did it.
Starting point is 01:06:36 And he, well, and we were talking about this, my roommate and I, that she is going to be the one, probably instead of Corliss that tells him that Renira's coming for him because the tension they're building between her and Reniro this season. I like it. She's going to be the one to send Adam to his death, which sucks because she also lost the last man she was married to or going to marry, you know, the last boy she was going to marry also went to his death from battle, and this time she's sending Adam to his death and then,
Starting point is 01:07:06 yeah, I don't know, then her and Alan get together. Yeah. I see that, like, would she and Alan get together also, like, is it in a grief kind of like crouching tiger hidden dragon kind of way or if you'll all remember like because she was betrothed to his older brother just like Brandon Stark but then she falls in love with him over time. That's what I was thinking. But then he actually really did like love her and doesn't he does the opposite in which he just like stays I guess celibate all those years and does not she. I'm like Alan so maybe it's that Bella is like oh my god I'm writing a whole
Starting point is 01:07:42 like watt pad here um baila and adam they fall in love and she's like no i've had too much heartbreak alan like promises like look you'll have security and they're going to just like have a marriage for show and he's just going to go do whatever and she just never has to like deal with that again she has the security and she like she's only ever fallen truly like in love that was that was her that was her great love, Adam. Whoa. I don't know. I like it.
Starting point is 01:08:16 I, maybe. I think we're on to something. Something's going to happen with those two, though, first, which is going to be sad. Oh, my God. And then they're out there,
Starting point is 01:08:24 and then they just, like, they're camping and beneath the stars has their dragons. Oh, my God. And I'm just like, oh, my God. And then they're just, like, you know, alone in the world. What if,
Starting point is 01:08:35 where are, where am I? Old school Eliana and old school Chloe from like, you know, like Princess and the Queen days and then Fire and Blood days, Adam was like your favorite and Baila was like my favorite. Oh my God, they're us. We're saying we're the OTP. We are.
Starting point is 01:08:55 We were always faded. Wow. Wow. Wow. Not to vocal fry, but wow. Dang. Okay. Um.
Starting point is 01:09:06 I really did like the Bela stuff going on in general, though. Like, again, wow, we got some Bela something. We got Bela Crumbs. Yeah, it is kind of crumbs. Like, she didn't actually have that much screen time. But I always hope it's going to happen. And, like, what they gave us, I thought was really, really cool. Like, in terms of her talking about, she had her life ready.
Starting point is 01:09:31 She had this whole plan. And she was going to become queen. And, like, that's a pretty big deal. I fucking get it. And then I like that it feels. as though it's an echo of this confusion. Misi come up with other characters throughout a song of ice and fire, right? Like, Sansa, she's like, I was going to become queen.
Starting point is 01:09:49 And, like, honestly, though, she's pretty glad to be rid of that role when the time comes around. Or, like, Arian. I mean, look at what it does to Arian. She finds out in a letter, she's like, I was going to be queen. Or not through a letter. She finds out that her dad had actually secretly planned for her to be queen. And then, like, you know, you taste that once. And you're like, all right, well, maybe I'm fucking queen material.
Starting point is 01:10:09 and Bella that's kind of gone from her now she also had that line of I saw myself a hero and I was going to go off to battle and be a glorious hero much like Raina kind of said you know they both
Starting point is 01:10:24 the hubris and folly of youth being something big and important and like the fact they're finally letting these secondary younger characters start to fill out what they're doing as nice it makes me think of you know you brought up Reniro when she was younger, went on that adventure with her and uncle Damon. So it's nice to see
Starting point is 01:10:44 these characters kind of get a little bit of adventure and spirit and formative moments. And it makes sense for them to see themselves, like, as the hero in that way, but also they're not asking themselves, what does it mean to be the hero? What is the price of it? Because like, their grandmamma, she, she's a hero. She was a badass, like, actual, like, dragon writer fighting. and... Rainies fought valiantly, Rainies fought nobly, and Rainies died. Yeah, she really died.
Starting point is 01:11:11 Like, that's her dragon that Chloe and I aren't sure if they're eating last episode. And, or even, like, you know, they... Non-zero chance. They grew up mostly, like,
Starting point is 01:11:22 with her father looking for his, like, attention, his approval. And he's someone that even, like, Rainierre calls out this episode. She's like, you're supposed to be a fucking hero. What are you doing? And so they see themselves as, as women, as girls, grow up having more agency than other girls, more freedom, more advantages to put it in the
Starting point is 01:11:40 words of Larry's. So why not them being heroes? Why not? Why not? Why not? Take a crazy chance. Why not? Have a little dance of the dragons. Oh. Do a crazy dance of the dragons. I'm here in it The moment you might leave so long Why not? So why not? I did call at the beginning of the episode To my roommate
Starting point is 01:12:11 That Reniro was not going to see Joffrey Until the very end of the episode And I was absolutely right I was like, oh, she's not going to see that kid And he's going to be asleep By the time she goes in there Because first of all, he's a kid And he traveled all day
Starting point is 01:12:25 But that was very sad And she can't bear There's a lot of guilt and shame is a recurring theme in this episode, right? Like, Amon is reliving his guilt over barbecuing his brother. Egan is also reliving his guilt a little bit. Yeah, he should. They should.
Starting point is 01:12:41 And like Kristen, Kristen, guilt. Like, good, repent sinners. But Renira is guilty. She probably looks at Joffrey and sees Harwin's face. She probably looks at him and sees Lainer in some aspect. She probably looks at him and sees her failure. at Joffrey and Luke dying. I mean...
Starting point is 01:13:03 And Jays, yeah. She's ashamed. Or, yeah, see, Jace, I don't even know their names. Fuck. They're dead to you. Fuck. They're dead to me, too. That one hasn't even died yet, but, like, he's...
Starting point is 01:13:16 I don't know, man. Days are numbered, bitch. It's so Gendo, Ikari, and Shinji. That's all. Hmm. Mm. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 01:13:27 Yes. Agreed. I see the... The vision. I do see the vision. Yes. Thank you. Thank you. Yes.
Starting point is 01:13:34 You're welcome. But it is sad. It is sad. And it's, it is interesting also every single time to contrast the different ways everyone's approaching motherhood across, like across the characters, but also even within their own same, same kids, families. Yeah. Yeah. Let's look at the daddy of it all. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:59 Let's talk about someone who doesn't feel guilt. Damon. He's never felt guilt in his entire life. Crazy. In this chapter of Hatti, the rogue prince dismisses Reneiro's commands often and publicly. That surely can't be a problem. He decides to focus on the gold cloaks instead of going after,
Starting point is 01:14:24 instead of going after Vagar, he tortures a prisoner with Luther Largent, rip and they learn this is all the doing of the greens who by the way are declaring darren king finally damon finds the remaining gold cloaks slaughtered and displayed around a feast table so we get the feast of corpses just in a different way which i'm fine with i think that was fun uh they've broken up little bits of the story since we're almost at the butcher's ball but we get the feast of corpse is here. And do you remember when we were on the battlements with Allison and Helena and they told that guy he's got to stand down when Rainira comes? Yeah, I do. Is this? That's him. I was not going
Starting point is 01:15:11 to remember that. I'm glad you did. You know what? The very first thing I said was Eliana's not going to remember that white guy. Eleanor's not going to remember that white man. Literally, I was like, she has no clue who that guy is. So when they showed him, I was like, oh, shit. I made a note that I have to tell Aliana, so I'm glad I did. She's like, she can't tell them. That's Perkin. Well, you know what?
Starting point is 01:15:34 But what did I say? I'm like, that's a red shirt who's going to cause some riots or something? Like, for sure. That's, so is that like our Perkin the Flea, y'all? I mean, that could be interesting. I'm here for it. I'm here for it. At least Hot Dees version.
Starting point is 01:15:50 Maybe that's not what we're going to call him. but yeah very interesting very interesting he and his cronies are behind it and his little birds like you pointed out um i can already feel the riots like yeah beneath the surface like it's like i was like watching the king's landing chaos i was like oh like i can feel it coming it's coming oh oh oh very killer killer drama like the tension is really well done it i feel at the beginning of the season I didn't know how they were going to get done a lot of the stuff that I personally feel
Starting point is 01:16:28 they need to get done in order to properly pace this as a TV show to, you know, evoke the right emotion in your watcher to get people to feel it. I had doubts and I feel very confident now. Like, I do not feel as doubtful. Yeah, and
Starting point is 01:16:44 assuming that they are going to do it and I feel like they will, like, the way that they're weaving this in with like the, you know, we're being funded by King Darren, which, you know, honestly, if I were David, I'd be like, what the fuck? Whom's? I mean, like, he knows who Darren is.
Starting point is 01:16:59 He got one and he tried to, like, kidnap him before. But anyways, it would still be funny if he still didn't remember. Yeah, right. Which one? But it's like, the idea that they are trying to push, like, King Darren and then, like, the disgruntledness of the small folk of Kings Landing really, like, all melds together well to also. the stage four, the moon of the three kings. Because even right now, I'm like, so there's like a
Starting point is 01:17:25 bazillion kings. Thank you. That's what I'm saying. I agree. There's too many. There's too many. We have a Tristan Truefire. We have a game in pale hair. It's going to happen. It's going to happen. We've met them already. Yeah. No, I think it's got a perk in to flee. I think we're like perfectly, we are, we are, we are so well positioned for it. That's what I'm saying. Like, they're doing a lot of good set up and I'm starting to see that they aren't doing set up for things unnecessarily. Yeah, I think like it's an economical way to tell that story. Put it like not turn in terms of like a story about like the economy, which it is also that like, you know, putting it intersecting.
Starting point is 01:18:07 No, because you think like you've got a silvan sand basically. Yeah. You've got Madam Sylvie. You've got Diana who is the mother of game and pale hair or something. You know, like you can make all these pieces. work and I believe them and you've been paying these people to set this story up, you know? And you don't need to introduce like 50 new characters to do it. I really respect that actually. I think that's a really good use of your resources to best tell the story without.
Starting point is 01:18:35 Like look, there's too many characters to remember already because they all have names like each other or they all look like each other. So like, you know, from just a general broad standpoint, you picked some people, you stuck with them for a few seasons. It's going to happen. Yeah, and they've also set up like Agin's bastards too. Yeah, exactly. So yeah, in regards to the people are unhappy, and, you know, we get a lot of speeches. We get a lot of speeches this episode. We got one from Kristen that closes a lot of the episode out, but we also get one from Damon.
Starting point is 01:19:11 And I actually felt, interestingly, like, first of all, when that man was like, hunters get paid, I was like, dang, bars. but also Damon's speech to get everyone riled up and bought into the we're going to still do this job even though we're not getting a paycheck actually really reminded me of
Starting point is 01:19:30 your own speech at the King's Mood. Yo, yes, make Westeros great again. It was giving that a little he's like, your sacrifices here will be repaid tenfold. We're going to like fucking conquer everyone and get all the riches and everything else like what? This is This is quite the vision that you have, Damon.
Starting point is 01:19:52 I don't know. Because that's not the vision that the queen on the throne currently has, right? Like, she doesn't think we should go robbing the entire world to build, like, the greatest freehold ever and conquering again. But, like, I don't know. Do you remember when Reneera specifically told Damon that we're shelving that idea for now? Yeah, because also she keeps bringing it up and also it makes sense. I don't even know how you're going to get this, like, empire right now, Damon.
Starting point is 01:20:20 You're trying to get the fucking street. You can't even hold down the fucking... You can't hold down the block. We can't even throw a block party. First of all, no one will come. Second of all, they'll cancel us. Yeah, second of all, they'll kill us in the words of Chloe with hammers, but or like... With hammers.
Starting point is 01:20:40 They're going to disembowl them. It's different. It's a different way of killing. Whatever. I mean, really good stylistically, for what it's worth. the style, but yeah, very interesting. Also the line of like, and we're going to conquer Dorn. What? That stood out to me, which I mean, it makes sense to plan for the future, but I think that's a little farther out, as you and I know, and also thought it was interesting compared
Starting point is 01:21:03 to like Ormond, right, who will talk about kind of embraces that Dorn is his natural enemy, but respects that there has natural enemy? He's like, oh, they're pretty good though. Like, Believe it or not, they've evaded conquering for a long time because they're the shit and the dragons suck, Darren. So I thought that was interesting, a fun way to talk about it. Also kind of reminded me, this is sinful to even say, so no one complain, but season eight when Danny's talking about conquering the other places in Westrose, like conquering Winterfell or whatever she says in season eight. Yeah. Like Damon had a little something going on in his brain here, but very interesting.
Starting point is 01:21:48 This was also De Nara Sadabata. It is. Like all of it. To go back to like the whole like guerrilla warfare thing that is a through line for this episode, which isn't exactly what's going on here in the same way, but it is and it isn't. Like it is very, I kind of was like, but we actually, a Game of Thrones, sorry, not a Game of Thrones, no article. Game of Thrones the show did in fact actually give us
Starting point is 01:22:16 some of Danny Adela. So I was kind of like it's interesting to me that they are doing that again. Like this is something that I'm like I don't know that I needed it but maybe it's something that they wanted to do. So I'm like, all right, sure. I'm curious to see where it goes.
Starting point is 01:22:36 I'm down. Yeah. I will say also... Well, it's not going to go very far. Yeah. They die. In regards to what you're saying, though, about, like, Damon's speech, he does make reference to the whole Nine Kingdoms thing. And that's another thing that I see is, like, you know, we're tying things together.
Starting point is 01:22:50 Yeah, with the Night of the Seven Kingdoms. Everything's, like, Ryan and Ira went, they had a beard. They're like, let's talk about Nine Kingdoms all the time. And I'm here for it. I wish I could have been there for this imaginary conversation because it's so cute. I don't think it's imaginary. I think it's real. I'm writing just wattpads about Adam and Bela.
Starting point is 01:23:11 and Ira and Ryan. Wow, now you're writing a fanfic. I know, right? You have too much time on your hands. I'm getting parisotial AF. Rip Harwin Jr. Yeah. Rup Luther Largent.
Starting point is 01:23:28 At least now he can't be blamed for Helena's death, first of all. Oh. Interesting, true. You know, that's a change that can't happen now. But second of all, I'm so sad because I wanted him to stay around longer. I am sad. Yeah. But this is what happens when you get given a job and you're wearing too many hats,
Starting point is 01:23:50 you know, you die. That's true. Yeah, pretty much. Oh, am I going to die? Um, anyways. A fun. Yeah. I kind of was surprised I did think we were going to see out, like, more of book Luther Largent's storyline.
Starting point is 01:24:08 But, you know, I guess it doesn't have to be him. That's not. I guess not We'll just make some new Kings guard up We can do that Yeah for real There's other people I do I do also really love the scene
Starting point is 01:24:24 Of Rainier and Damon speaking Valerian in the Sept What it made me think of Was Sanzah and Dantos Speaking very openly of their plans In the godswood right But it's another It's a different religious place And like that idea of
Starting point is 01:24:40 being able to see much more easily if anyone is coming and listening the way that it was for Sans-Zendantos, but also like then they move into speaking Valerian and no one can understand them and I think like that's a pretty good that's a pretty good understanding of like what it's like when you speak a second language
Starting point is 01:25:03 and so it is the other person and you're like we don't want anyone else to understand I was like all right they get it Um, and also I think that they did a good job of acting and speaking Valerian. It very, it felt to me believable. Yeah. Of what it, of people who truly are bilingual.
Starting point is 01:25:27 Like, they, they feel the emotions in the thing that they are saying in this other language, and they are, like, truly just, like, talking it and living that language. So I thought they did a great performance there. And also there's a moment in which Damon talks about, you know, what the populace is looking for. And, like, he wants it to be, like, always summer. I was like, oh, no, we're channeling Jora and Danny. Interesting. The lowborn pray for rains and an endless summer, whatever.
Starting point is 01:25:56 But also, like, there's something in that of, like, the prophecy and also the Targaryans and, like, the magic. And, like, that, you know, when there were Targaryans and dragons. things were great or better. And then the magic died and the seasons went wonky and there's something going on there too with the idea of giving an endless summer, but also like that there should be balance in all things, in all life. Yeah. So something interesting.
Starting point is 01:26:25 And then also when you brought up like, you know, them using it to speak, I really loved that, but I also very much loved the contrast between Alicent and Reneira and the Sept and how it is a bespoken, like a very, the respect with which the ceremony of the sept and the candles versus Damon and how Damon very easily spits at it and laughs at it. He immediately walks in and goes, ha, you're literally in here doing this. That's hysterical, Reneira. You know, like, you couldn't believe in this shit. Come on now. You don't believe this.
Starting point is 01:26:59 And the disrespect that he brings to it. and with how much ease he brings that disrespect. So, like, the tensions A with the faith are not going away anytime soon. Nope. And that'll be interesting to see in comparison to this. Yeah. And then just that reverence between, like, how Allison would treat the Sept versus Damon, I thought was really interesting. And that Reneira makes it such a point to continue to, like, make the appearance.
Starting point is 01:27:32 Why does she do it? obviously for who she is and who she's seen as and for legitimacy, but also this is a sacred place for her and Allison and their friendship and her like praying with her here as a girl as well as as a grown woman. So there's something there too, right? Like there's something about Alicent taking her necklace off to sell it for passage for her and Helena, losing her religion. R.E.M. Sing it. And then Reneera putting it on, putting the mask on,
Starting point is 01:28:03 and then lifting and taking these things and wearing the religion instead. So I thought that was also a very fun little contrast going on. Alicent losing her religion, Reneira wearing it. Yeah. I don't know that she's like only where. I think she's just so floundering so much that she's looking for anywhere that she has found any like solace or wisdom growing up. Because as you said, this is somewhere she and Alicent would go as girls.
Starting point is 01:28:26 This is where she and Alicent talked a lot about, you know, she found solace through Alicent. and sharing about the deaths of their mothers, right? Like, yeah. Rainira hasn't had her mother for much, for, for a very long time. Neither was Alicant and, as you said, great contrast with Alicent leaving it. And I mean, like, we've been getting a lot of stuff. Like, Ormond, I guess, is also like, what the fuck are we doing here?
Starting point is 01:28:53 Why are we in church? And Tyserian's like, I'm lighting candles to each saint. And Dyrin's like, Tessarian. Catholic. Yeah, and Daring me like, I don't want to kill people at church. And Orman's like, but that's what we do at church. We murder.
Starting point is 01:29:12 Yeah. And then, you know, the scene kind of ends with, and I liked this because of how it fits into the rest of the episode of like Rain Niro speaking like, Damon, you're like supposed to be here. You're supposed to be cunning. You're the subject of songs. Why can't you fucking do anything?
Starting point is 01:29:26 And how that plays with like, you know, her, in a dialogue with like Amon, And speaking of how he always idolized Agen, right? Or again, like, Bela and Raina, having wished to be the heroes or Kristen, being like, they're going to sing songs with me, and I'm like, bro, no. They're not. In fact, they're going to talk about how you burned it all to the fucking ground, you guys. Yeah, they're going to remember you and Jorn, though.
Starting point is 01:29:51 Don't worry. Arienne told me so. Tumbled in, guys. Tumbling on back. Tumble on in. Oh, both of us. Both of us. Terrible.
Starting point is 01:30:04 While Ormond has been behind mastermining the attacks on King's landing, he's been busy fortifying Tumbledon, and Darren, meanwhile, is managing Orman's fragile ego. We get a Dornish history lesson from Ormond, who rather likes the Yellow Toad, and then he reveals a coin with Darren's face minted upon it. Darren is now up for the role of King. The coin was a very nice touch,
Starting point is 01:30:30 as we earlier touched upon as well. well, being from the reach and found with the prisoner and the cell and king's landing, all for the queen to get crazy and paranoid about, what book am I reading? I know. I love that. I was like, oh, my God, I read this. I read that book. I read that book.
Starting point is 01:30:52 And you know who didn't, Darren, who, like, if I were him, I'd be like, what the fuck? That doesn't look anything like me. me, who is he? Who is she on this? I saw this tweet that was like, Ormond gave him bangs on the coin. He really is passionate about cosmetology. I know. I was like, what? I was like, no, it doesn't. I'd be so weirded out if I were daring to be like,
Starting point is 01:31:19 what the fuck is happening? But also, you know, besides the reference to Feast and Circe and the coin that, you know, allegedly belongs to the Tyrell's, you know, reach coins. I also, when they were interrogating the prisoner where they find the coin, he's like, look in my boot. And it made me think of how egg five eggs ring is in the boot. He's also a secret king.
Starting point is 01:31:46 Yeah. Wow. I've seen more Ira and Ryan fanfic from you. Got it. They were toasting their beer glasses softly at first, and then more rowdy as the night wore on. Indeed. And then they were taking off each other's boots. The queen took off her slipper.
Starting point is 01:32:03 What? And then... Keep your boots on, boys. Um, and then also, I love this line where Darren asks about the yellow toad, about Miria. Is she the hero then or the villain? No answer, but it's a little on the nose, but not... I don't know if, like, other people, like, think it is, or... I don't think it is.
Starting point is 01:32:23 I actually loved it. I was like, I love that the question goes unanswered because that is the question of the whole... of all of the series, all of the ASO-I-A-F-U. No, that's a sadder story. Right? Like, that's the answer. That's the sadder story.
Starting point is 01:32:40 Wow. I love that. That is, like, such a great meta-arcing. And, you know, I, for like a split second was like, are we going to learn more about Rainies's death suddenly? Like, was he going to talk about? I was like, I was he going to talk about Maraxis? But he didn't. No, he doesn't know that.
Starting point is 01:32:59 think for a second. That's a Dornish secret. But like, what if he knew something? What if he knew something? That would be crazy. I don't think, if I were a Dornish person, I would not tell Ormond Hightower my secrets. Absolutely not. Oh, because he'd just ask for them really nicely.
Starting point is 01:33:14 He seems like that kind of guy. I just, that's true. I guess not. I just like, I just mean more, even if him bringing it up. Like, I was like, is he going to like say like, they still to this day, you know, just because especially because he's like obsessed with killing the Targaryans. So I thought maybe he would bring it up, but he didn't, but he didn't. But that's okay.
Starting point is 01:33:32 There's still time. There's still time. And we got Savas. Yeah. They went through a lot of effort to make this. That was, yeah, I loved the behind the scenes on the Savas. And I love it because it's like such a good training tool. We've seen it used that way metaphorically, figuratively, literally in the books, right?
Starting point is 01:33:55 Like Young Griff, for example, is playing a lot of it. We see that throughout a dance. with dragons and Tyrion kind of teaching him a lesson through the board. We actually even have the line, dragons are all well and good, but you must know how to use them. So of course, when he put the dragon down in one, the meta of that, right? There's a huge metaphor there that Darren put the dragon down in one, and then Ormond was pissed about it. Because that's the one thing he can't play. He can't play the dragon.
Starting point is 01:34:23 But I think of also like Dorin putting Savas in Arien's room when she's a princess in the tower, not kind of unlike Darren in some aspects. Yeah, he's free, but is he right now? I mean, his dragon throughout the entire series has been kept in a prison basically made out of wooden poles, but it's a dragon that doesn't keep a dragon out. You can't keep the dragon chained up forever, right? So Darren played the dragon, which I hope Darren kills Ormond. That would be so sick. That'd be interesting. And it's also, you know, coming to, again, And that discussion of the Dornish, they're playing Savas. Savas is a game that the orphans of the Greenblood popularized, right?
Starting point is 01:35:07 Like, that's their game. They made it big. And here the Reachmen are playing Savas, one of the V games in Westrose to play. The games. I mean, this is like the Cones of Dunshire. This is. And honestly, it's better than the finger games. My God, the Cones of Dunshire.
Starting point is 01:35:26 Absolutely. And I don't know, I like what you're saying of tying it back to how it's discussed in Addo-Dah, because as you also said earlier, we're getting the Fagan storyline. Orman's kind of like the Illyrio, but also John Kahn. But unlike the way that we see allegedly Egan, the sixth, lose his shit when he loses the game, you haven't said Derry and he's like, I'm so sorry I won. And then Orman's the one who loses his shit. He's like never apologize for victory. I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, chill, chill. Like, I don't know your rules. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:06 I also, I mean, in general, I love that we're getting Dorn's stuff, like, very, very into this. And I do think it's significant. I like paused the episode to make my, my focus group was smaller this week, so it was just my partner listening to me being like, lecturing him, being like listen why this is important I was like Orman's telling the story to Darren specifically and that matters because Darren's in general are significant to Dorn because it was Darren the young dragon who does not have a dragon because all the dragons are dead by then who actually does succeed in conquering Dorn by force he doesn't hold it like he he he dies because of it but he does
Starting point is 01:36:53 do it for like a hot second and also the person who does finally succeed in bringing Dorn into the Westerosi kingdoms is it's a Daron and this ties into again the series A Night of the Seven Kingdoms
Starting point is 01:37:10 as it's what precedes the Blackfire Rebellion and Darren the second is the one who gets Doren through he's also the king at the time of a night of the seven kingdoms and like Ormond's all emphasizing Miria doesn't have strength, she has cunning, right? Darren the second is specifically seen as lacking physical might and like Miria, he has a lot of smarts and it's actually through diplomacy that the Targaryans finally get Dorn through like
Starting point is 01:37:38 two marriage pacts. So I was like, it's significant. There's, it's significant that we told this and mansplained it to Darren specifically. No, it's literally. It's literally, so significant and you are so clever to have seen it first of all. I love Darren the second. I like this Darren too. But also like well struck, well struck Ryan Condal like for playing with this because literally because of what you just talked about though. That is the line of thought that they're bringing in Dorn conversation around a Darren. This is so a big brain. That was so big brain of them. I'm sorry. It's so big brain of them.
Starting point is 01:38:19 It's funny because again, we've talked about it, and I feel like it's so cheap to have not brought him in. But also now, I don't because, for example, he wasn't doing anything. Who? Right? Like, Darren. Oh, yeah. What was there to watch him do the last two seasons? Like this?
Starting point is 01:38:37 I mean, I think they should have, like, mentioned him at one point, at least, and been like, and Darren, in the reach. I would have liked to see him in Old Town. Yeah. Oh, we could have gotten the other Old Town arc. Yeah. That would have been cute. It would have been cute, but that's okay. That's okay. I would have liked to see him like before war, before war, you know, like just a young boy in the old town with a beautiful old town with House of the Dragon money. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:39:12 In House of the Dragon. I do love Ormond kind of waxing poetic. about Dorn, though, and really envying their strengths and envying what they were able to do against the Targaryans. I found that really poignant. Yeah, he's like, this one woman that was a real badass and very good at ruling, and that's why we don't think women should rule. Ugly as shit, by the way, but amazing, amazing at what she did. But, and you would think that would make him think, I don't know, maybe queens are fine. Nope. Nope. Yeah, I was going to say when you were kind of explaining it again, it reminds me of how Stannis speaks of Reneira.
Starting point is 01:39:58 And he's in which he's like, I can't believe she ever thought she ever had the audacity to try and roll. The audacity. The audacity. She should have known better. Oh, man. Yeah, really liking the Tumbledin stuff. They're doing a fine job with Ormond and with Darren. I can't complain.
Starting point is 01:40:20 Yeah. really can't complain. That was a juicy, thick. I was like biting into a burger that scene. I was like, what? Okay. Oh, I'm hungry. All right. Me too. Me too. All right, let's close it out with Larry Agon. Larry's and Egan. Lerys calls Egan the fuck out in an incredible quote that I'll cherish for my entire life. It was beautiful. Egan is semi-affected by this and begrudgingly, ashamedly comes back to... Rook's rest. The mean guy at Rooks Russ then finds Agan's crown while Thailand Lannister is busy chatting with Larris because yes, Tylin's back. And Agan stabs the mean guy that finds the crown.
Starting point is 01:41:03 And, you know, next. Yeah. Okay, quick thing, quick thing. I was, it really stood out to me when Larry's like handed, I'm jumping forward a little, Larry's handed Agen, an apple. And at first, I was like, is this some sort of like knowledge, you know, symbol of knowledge? You know, symbol of knowledge like handing. It also makes me think a little bit as well of Hades and Persephone. I'm like, ah, yes, more little finger sanza things. Pomegranate. Yeah, pomegranate. Oh, man. I did think of, yeah. Well, I did think of the apple, right? Because, you know, when, when Agan shows that resentment towards Aman and that resentment in general and Larry's balls him the fuck out with an incredible quote, we don't need to relive all of it, but I love that he says, you know, you were a terrible
Starting point is 01:41:51 yeah, rewatch it, everyone. It's really good. You were a terrible king, but worse than that, you are a terrible man. You know, tells him just how everything was handed to him, and he's grown to be just fucking awful. And that's the thing is, like, Otto told him that. His mom told him that, and now Larry's has told him that. And now he's up shit creek with no paddle, and he's realizing, wow, they were right. And, like, straight up with the apple, I did think that, are they going to like big brain him and make him like I said last time maybe he's going to get some sort of rehabilitation to understanding just like Damon right like the world's not about you except Damon's back to wanting to conquer the world but the world's not about you um sure he does
Starting point is 01:42:37 stab that guy but like and his dragon's going to eat his sister but like is he going to do we have a woke again returning you know to the throne eventually I I do think, like I've said last time, that's a question that they want us to ask. That's the question that they're asking and exploring. Is it possible or is it not? And I don't think they're going to give us an answer. Same as is she the hero or the villain? No answer.
Starting point is 01:43:06 Yeah. Right? But I will say, like, part of what my partner really loved about this scene is Larry's delivery, right? Like, there's no malice. There's no venom. He's just saying it like very matter-of-factly. Like, he's got, as though he's not truly got a story.
Starting point is 01:43:20 stake in it. So him saying, like, you were a terrible king, worse than that, you are a terrible man. Like, Otto and Allison say to him with, like, all this exasperation and malice. And Leris is just like, ah, look, these are the facts. And I don't know if Agen's going to be good, but I think that we're seeing an arc in which he will be less. I'm like pulling a lot of Chloeisms this episode. He's going to be less acetic. And... Hmm. Because, you know, like... Classic Chloeism.
Starting point is 01:43:52 Exactly. And then, like, Agen, Agin's talking about how Aymond is able to do all this stuff, right? Amon's so highly accomplished, apparently the subject of Agan's envy. But, like, Amon's not good. We're seeing Aymond be very, like, not good as well, right? So just because someone is accomplished, does all these things, hits all these markers.
Starting point is 01:44:19 I mean, as you called out, Damon, Damon does lots of things. Songs or song, not good. So, like, I kind of wonder if, like, that's maybe what they'll explore with Agin instead and be like, all right, he's doing stuff. Aren't you happy? I mean, that's the theme, right?
Starting point is 01:44:34 Yeah, aren't you happy that he's doing stuff? Songs will be sung of me. Yeah, they won't. They won't. They might be sung of Agan, but, like, not good ones. Yeah, not good ones. And I think what we're seeing a little bit here in the speech of what Lary's gives him is kind of how I feel about Andrew Farman. And I'll just leave that there.
Starting point is 01:44:54 I don't feel like expounding because this episode's gone on a while. He is a terrible man. Yeah. But I will say, yeah, like as you said, like, Agen's tirade and Lary's retort, it is in dialogue with what Kristen Cole is talking about or even like, you know, what Luther Largent, right? Luther Largent fucking comes from nothing as well. and made a job that he did die from. So, like, that's not a great example, but, you know. And I don't know, I'm still, like, very fascinated by Larry's character and motivations.
Starting point is 01:45:31 Like, he's saying all these things, he's observed of Agen, he's still, like, trying to keep Agan alive, right? But Larry's, he's, like, you had every advantage, you're the firstborn son, you're the fucking prince, blah, blah, blah. Larry's is the second son, right? He hasn't really had any physical advantages. What is, like, when he says all these things to Agen, what is going through his mind in regards to Harwin? I mean, yeah, he killed his brother to be able to have that position. And Harbin seemed nice. He's probably thinking, but he's probably thinking, of course Aymann tried to kill you.
Starting point is 01:46:01 Of course. Yeah, he probably identifies very much with Aymn, so it's interesting that he's like, I mean, maybe it's because he saw so much of himself in Aman that he was like, Agen, this man's going to kill you. Because I fucking did that. Yeah. Abso-fucking-Lutely. Abso-fucking-Lutely, he's probably like, I'd kill your ass, too, if I could. Shit.
Starting point is 01:46:21 He probably will. Shit. Wait. Yeah, the poisoning. And then he handed him an apple. That's so... Oh, like evil wit. Also, like, snow white.
Starting point is 01:46:36 Yeah. He's gonna poison him. He does have a very snowy white complexion that Egan... So do I. Do you think I'm going to poison Agin? No, you would be poisoned. Oh, shit. I do have that kind of face, don't I?
Starting point is 01:46:52 You would be snow white. Damn. Look at all the apples you've brought in. Am I one of the seven dwarves? Because I'm shorter than you by like two inches, three inches. Yeah, we have what's called a height gap between us. It's all the rage. We're both above average.
Starting point is 01:47:14 I am above average. for a woman's height. You're above average in a lot of ways, I want you to know that. I want you to know that. You know who's really above average, in survival, at least, Thailand. I knew it.
Starting point is 01:47:29 I'm sorry. I want you to know that, like, I was the most obnoxious watcher of this show Sunday because my partner was in disbelief earlier on when he jumped out of the boat. He was like, oh, so he's dead. And I'm like, what?
Starting point is 01:47:42 No, he's not. I'm like, he's literally coming back. I don't know. but he's very innocent and very, I don't know, but so all that said, he straight up, I looked at him and Eliana, I have never been more only child Ari's son than I was in that moment because the moment Thailand appeared on the screen, I went, ha! And I pointed at him and then I turned back to the screen and continued watching the episode and that was that. I mean, deservedly so. Sorry. Sorry, who might actually listen to this.
Starting point is 01:48:19 I don't know. But I, no, we watched about all the Gullet together. And I was like, I think he lives. I just like, it doesn't make sense to me that he doesn't. And you and I have talked way too much about Thailand. We got to torture him. Yeah. You got to torture this guy.
Starting point is 01:48:39 Wait, that's right. That's why we, he looks really hailed. healthy. So you do have to knock him down a peg. It's time. You know, let's blind him. Just cut those eyes out. I mean, we cut an eye out. Dude, Damon just cut an eye out today or yesterday. That also took me unawares. I was like, oh, holy shit, that was fast. Just taking the eyeball. Okay. Could happen to you, Thailand. Very gross. Yeah. Jesus. So yeah, that's Thailand next. Thailand. Oh my God, sorry. Wow, Thailand. Yeah. he's not going to be able to bang cock after what they're going to do to him
Starting point is 01:49:16 that's also true i was trying to make like a joke with like siam but then i had nothing but it is very much the king and i shall we dance wait is that one is that one the king and i yeah i think so okay well i don't remember i haven't watched it in a long time someone fact check us um we could we could fact check ourselves but we're not going to. And I'm going to pretend it's the right musical and say, shall we dance?
Starting point is 01:49:47 Because this is the dance of the dragons. Oh, wait. I'm getting something from the future. Hold on. Yeah, we're right. We're right. So go on with your song. Shall we dance?
Starting point is 01:50:01 I don't remember all the lyrics because I never do. We'll be back to dance next week with episode six. Oh my God, six, seven, and eight. And then seven, eight. like you said. We're at the end. We're at the very end of this season already. It's gone by so quickly.
Starting point is 01:50:21 It's fucked up. I don't know what I'm going to do for another two years. Okay. Everything's falling apart from me. Love Island's over. The World Cup's over. House the Dragon's going to be over. I don't know who to be.
