Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to The Snack, a lighter serving of Girls Got to Eat. This is a Dear Media production. Enjoy. Hi, guys. I just want to say, Ashley's wearing something a little different today. She's wearing pink aviators. I think you're going to enjoy wearing these. How do you live like this?
Starting point is 00:00:18 I feel like I'm looking through... Well, I don't really record a sunglasses on. I don't usually. I feel like I'm looking through a disco ball. This is crazy. Well, they're my Miami glasses. Okay. Not some Miami shades.
Starting point is 00:00:29 How do you live like this? I don't. I think it's a vibe. I think you're going to like it. I just don't think like people watching it. You probably can't see my eyes. Can you see my eyes? Do you think it makes you look less trustworthy when you're giving it?
Starting point is 00:00:40 No, I think I'm super expressive and I don't want to take away from that. Here's why I'm wearing them. I have an eye infection, blephoritis. That sounds so made up. It sounds like when somebody says they have a deviated septum just to get a nose job, like blephoritis I had to get on an upper eye bluff. It sounds like the doctor, very young doctor, very like felt like he was playing doctor, did not feel, and I'm not in a sexy way.
Starting point is 00:01:03 He felt like he was not old enough to be a doctor. I went to urgent care this morning. And he did sound like he made it up. He was like, I think you have blephoritis. Like he just took a word that means I and added like idis onto it. And I'm Googling it in real time.
Starting point is 00:01:15 I just, he wasn't giving, yeah. I mean, that's what it is. I mean, it does sound made up. It sounds like, I'm going to see if this girl believes this. I was Googling. He just wasn't giving me like a sense of security that he knew what he was doing.
Starting point is 00:01:27 He kept asking so many weird questions. I was like he's buying time because he doesn't know what's wrong. And then he finally came out with blephritis and then he said something about an antibiotic. I was like, if this motherfucker prescribes me an antibiotic, I'm out of here. I need a second opinion. But he subscribed me like an antibiotic ointment. Like a steroid cream for your eye?
Starting point is 00:01:41 It's like an antibacterial cream for my eye. For my blephoritis. For my blephritis. And then I had to go. And then so meanwhile I'm Googling it. And I'm like, he's right. He's right. You know.
Starting point is 00:01:50 But then I had to go see my arch nemesis. The fact that you haven't changed where you pick up prescriptions. No, I like to see him. I like to look him right in my fucked up eye. and just be like, give me my cream and I have insurance now. If you guys are new around here, I had a very awkward situation
Starting point is 00:02:06 with her other eye. Sean at the CBS on 26th in Santa Monica. So go tell him I sent you. The eye of her butt, known as her butthole. Yes, with my brown eye. And I had a situation where he had me feeling embarrassed when I went to pick up this cream from my butt hole,
Starting point is 00:02:25 whatever, it's fine. And I was like, watch him be there. Of course he was there. I can't believe he had a belt. Just being a dick. I walk up. He's like, this will be right in 20 minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:33 I was like, okay. I don't get priority. I don't get priority. I don't get priority after all I've done. I've done with you. ruined my life last time. So I went around the corner and got a coffee and then I went back and he rung me up.
Starting point is 00:02:43 And that's what I'm dealing with. I think it'll get better. But I mean, it was big and red and swollen. And I feel so naked without mascara. That's my one thing. Oh, yes. Is that your one thing?
Starting point is 00:02:54 That's my one thing. If you have, if you're like I can put on one thing of makeup. Yes. That's okay. I wore sunscreen. the other day. I did wear sunscreen.
Starting point is 00:03:02 She's a changed one. I wore glow screens. It has a little bit of like concealer built into it. Yeah. But if you, but I like, I like knowing what people's one thing would be. Yes,
Starting point is 00:03:10 that's my one thing. Um, mascara. Most people probably say mascara. I think so. But also I have like albino eyelashes. Like I have blonde, blonde. I have no definition around my eyes.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Yeah. It's just like the one thing I feel like that makes me not look like a man. Like I think of Nikki Glazer's bit when she's like, with no makeup, I am a beautiful man. I'm like a yoga instructor named Jesper. I'm like, I feel that so deeply. I'm a good-looking guy with no makeup.
Starting point is 00:03:36 A hot-ass man. Okay, well, let's get into it. We are going to kick this episode of The Snack off with our breakup report. So I have two things to tell you about this first breakup. But I don't know if you know. So we're going to kick it off with Benefer, which actually, you know, we kicked off our first episode of the snack with J-Lo and Benefer. Yes. They're the OG hybrid couple name.
Starting point is 00:03:59 And the second that we wrapped, Tessa goes, oh my God, Benefer broke up and we're like, well, we don't necessarily have that much to say about it. That was unsubstantiated at the time. I mean, other than like that's sad and I hate to see people split up, I don't have that much to say. But two things that I've learned since. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Did you know that she filed for a divorce on their anniversary? Yes. Purposeful. So August 20th anniversary of two years of marriage, she files for divorce. So that tells me she's real mad. Yeah. She, what changed your name back immediately. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:26 In California, you can do that. Kim Kardashian also did that. She filed for divorce, immediately dropped the West. Yes. And then also, we have learned since that they had no pre-up. And Jennifer Lopez is worth so much more money than Ben Affleck. So what I read was that she's worth $400 million and he's worth $150 million. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:47 I did not think that there was a disparity like that. Oh, I guess I kind of, but what's he doing? Oh, he's like a production company. It's a production company. So he produced all that stuff. I mean, it's been a minute since Armageddon. You know, he's not really in the blockbusters anymore. No, no, I thought she was worth so much more. That actually sounds about right. If you were like, she's worth double, that would track to me. Like a 400 and a 200 is what I would maybe guess. Yes. But this tracks. I mean, they sold their house. You knew they were selling their house at the agency, Maricio Yamanski's company, sold their house. And this seems like it's been a while coming. But I don't know. It's interesting when somebody gets divorced after such a short amount of time because like what really changed. She was already this mega celebrity. So a couple things. I'm going to ask you. I mean, did you think this was going to happen?
Starting point is 00:05:28 like to me, I'm like, for you to get back with your ex, like reunite with a past love, and then get married in your 50s, you'd think it would stick. I mean, I know she doesn't have the greatest track record. Neither does he, you know, we're neither team. I don't know. I think they both have their flaws and whatever. It's just kind of like, you just thought it would have worked out. And then the articles that are like, well, he has mood swings.
Starting point is 00:05:53 It's like, yeah, but she knew that. Yeah. And if it's like she's such a diva, whatever. Well, he knew that. Like whatever her personality is, she is a fully baked person and so is. Yeah, I mean, the only thing, I don't know, I mean, the movies that she made that she self-funded about her self-making a movie that no one, like her whole double feature of movies that no one really wanted. I don't know if that was like a final straw for him. I'm also not defending him.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I don't, I've heard not great things about him. You know, I love a Boston guy and I love his whole asshole demeanor. I say that my boyfriend has RBF, resting Ben Affleck face at all times. I've been saying it on stage. And but it's just like, how did this happen? And the pre-up thing, I mean, I guess that's true. I don't know. TMZ reported it.
Starting point is 00:06:35 I don't know. You think it's true? I mean, is it like, like, how can we really know that unless, like, their divorce lawyer told us? You know, like, who gives that information to the tabloids? Like, I don't know. Laura Wasser is doing her divorce. We've had her on the show, very famous.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Number one celebrity. But, but I don't know. I mean, how much stuff to you and I see written about us? It's not true. We're not really even that famous. Yeah, people just make shit up. I mean, this is what happened. with Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Like someone just started a rumor. This is Beyonce, the DNC. Someone just started a rumor and everybody just started to grab onto it. But their pre-up seems like it would have been so easy. Come in with what they got. They take it when they go. Ben takes his. Jen takes hers.
Starting point is 00:07:14 I just don't understand the reasoning for not having it when there's so much money involved. It seems, what do I know? But it seems like it would have been so cut and dry. You just leave with what you came in with. I don't really understand it. I mean, we know somebody that's split up from their partner, somebody who's not that wealthy. somebody split up from the partner in May and his divorce was finalized in July.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Yeah. And they had a pre-up. So, like, I don't understand why you wouldn't get it. Yeah. Unless you're just like, well, we know everything we didn't know about each other. Yeah. But if I'm Jennifer Lopez, I've been married three times, I'm getting a pre-knup for the four. A hundred percent.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Someone's got to force you. Someone be like, you can't legally get married unless you get a pre-up. You got a bad track record. Yeah. You know, and I was just reading this article that this is not a hot take. But, I mean, divorces take as long as you want them to take. They can be over, one and done, quick, easy. Get it settled.
Starting point is 00:07:57 get out of here or they can drag on for a decade. Totally. I love Bethany Frankel. Yeah. How long was hers? Oh, she had one of the longest divorces in history. Really? I think she just finalized it.
Starting point is 00:08:07 I mean, at least 10 years. What? Yeah. Jason Hoppy was like, I'm going to make you pay. That's Jason. Tessie, can you look up how long is Bethanyi Freakle's divorce? I knew a woman who was dating him. Jason Hoppy?
Starting point is 00:08:21 It was nearly a decade. She filed for divorce in 2013 and they was finalized in 2021, according to business insider. fifth grader. You could have a fifth grader. No, they do. They have a, I think their kid's older than than that. No, this is crazy to me, but no, I remember, I'm not going to say any name, but I remember this woman, and she's a little bit older than us, and she looks great. She's like such a bad bitch. And we were like in this party in New York, and we started talking about it. I was like, you're dating Jason Hall. You know, and she was like, yeah, Bethany was like so crazy. And then I think it turned out also Jason's crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:55 I don't think there was, you know, aside to pick on that. You got to be a certain brand of cuckoooo bananas to marry somebody like that. Who, Bethany? Jason. Oh. Well, what was his? I forget. He seemed just like a normal guy. I think he just felt really, I mean, he was mad at her. You got to be cuckoo bananas to marry Bethany, too. A little bit. She's insane. She's so unhinged. When she comes up on my TikTok, I guess.
Starting point is 00:09:20 She's just like munching bagels and cottage cheese, yelling at you about something. No, it's jarring. Like, it makes my, like, blood pressure rise. She's not calming. She posts up and I'm like, you didn't need to do this. She put this thing right across the top, and it was directed at Basta Pasta, I think. Oh, she'll drag anybody. Basta? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:38 And she was just like, this is a message to every brand. I don't want anything. I have all the money in the world. I'll buy whatever I want. Don't send me anything. It's a waste of packaging. And like, I totally relate to this. You and I always say, please don't send us anything.
Starting point is 00:09:51 It's a waste of packaging. We're probably not going to promote it. But there's a really kind way to say that without tagging the brand and screaming at millions of people on TikTok. Her tone is out of control. And sometimes I'm like, go off queen. I feel you on that. Other times I feel scared. I have a visceral reaction.
Starting point is 00:10:07 I feel like, I feel it in my heart, like palpitations and like I get her off my screen. She's just really mad. Yeah, she's always crumbs in our teeth. She elicits a response, that's for sure. Okay. So next, this is all you.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Next, right as we started recording, Brittany Carwright filed for divorce from Jacks Taylor. They've been married for five years. I mean, I truly have never seen somebody feel so... And if you don't know who this is. Oh, that's crazy, Ashley. Only you would not know who that is. You guys said Britney Cartwright earlier and I did not know who that was.
Starting point is 00:10:35 That's a you thing and specifically only you think. I guess it's the only one. But then you said Jacks and I knew. Okay. For the five people. So they were for the girls who aren't like other girls. Yeah. Ash was not like other girls.
Starting point is 00:10:48 For people who Vanderpump Rules is not their whole personality. I have loved Vanderpump Rules for so long. So Jacks Taylor is the star of Vanderpump Rules. He married Britney Cartwright five years ago. she was on many seasons of Vanderpump rules with him. Now they're on the Valley. And I mean, from day one, it was pretty heavily documented. I mean, he, I've never seen somebody feel so emboldened to treat their partner like shit like he does.
Starting point is 00:11:11 I mean, he talks down to her. He screams at her. He hits on other women and lies to her. I mean, there's never been a moment where I was like, he's really turned a corner. Yeah. And he's like irredeemable. She is one of the sweetest people I've ever seen on reality television. She is endlessly kind and empathetic.
Starting point is 00:11:28 wants to include everybody. I mean, she's so wonderful. She's just this little Kentucky muffin and doesn't believe in divorce comes from a pretty religious background. So I am really proud of her. I'm impressed. I mean, the way that he feels really empowered
Starting point is 00:11:39 to scream at her, talk down to her, swear at her on television is not only terrible for women, but it's terrible for your child to see that in the home. Yeah. So I feel really proud of her that she's done this.
Starting point is 00:11:49 They are filming season two of the Valley right now. Lala, Kent, and Sheena have both signed on to be on that seasons. They're filming it right now during this. And Jack's, allegedly, has been in a 30-day inpatient treatment program for who's to say. Yeah. And of course, I do know who these people are. I'm saying. Just, you know, some of you I know. I know. I did have to watch that episode of the Valley when we went and had to talk about it when
Starting point is 00:12:10 we did Nick Viles' podcast. And yes, I don't know anything about these people, but I'm in the culture enough. You know, I do my research. And it's also not that deep. You know, you get it. He's another person. He's giving me that Bethany feeling where he comes on the screen and I feel tense. His energy is super off to me. I don't think this is a hot take, right? A bad person. Yeah, exactly. A really bad person. Right. Okay. There was a lot of rumors he was also cheating on her with his publicist. That's not substantiated. But I love to see it. I love her to watch her stick up for not only herself, but her child as well.
Starting point is 00:12:37 So best luck to them co-parenting. Okay. That's on that. Well, our final breakup is going to bring us into our music updates today. But that is Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Kugan, which they may or may not be. I mean, at this point that we record, only Dumois has said it, which I'm not saying that's not incredible. But she's wrong sometimes. And Tessa, they're on and off.
Starting point is 00:12:58 You've heard, I've heard on and off more so than broke up. This could be our great on and off celebrity romance. Like this could be like drama. Back and forth. Yes, this could be some drama. She has said that it is on and off. Okay. And all of these news outlets are saying that she substantiated these claims in two words
Starting point is 00:13:16 and you read it and all she said, people were asking her about him and she just says, he was a great actor and I loved working with him in her music video. Wait, what? Yeah, there's all these things online that's hysterical. these claims have been substantial. She, she substantiates the claims with a two-word answer, but the two-word answer is great actor. Great actor. Yeah, she still wants to give him his flowers on his performance in her music video, which we love, you know. Yeah, I mean, that's really all we know. Who's to say what will even have happened in the next day or so and when this airs,
Starting point is 00:13:44 but we wanted to talk more about her album, which it's so good. I'm a little triggered by the name because it is short and sweet. Well, she wanted to let you know that she's short. I'm just kidding. You know, I love her and I love short people. Okay. She's waking behind those glasses. No, I we're just thriving with all this women pop music.
Starting point is 00:14:09 So I love this album so much. Espresso was fine to me. Like it was a bop. But it wasn't, it's not the number one on the album. It's not my favorite song. What's your favorite song? Well, I'm still getting through it, but I'm just obsessed with Slim Pickens because it's the plight of a straight woman. The lyrics are great. she says there's a guy, well, I'll read my favorite later, but the one lyric about a guy who doesn't know the difference between they're there and they are, you know, but that's all you got to pick from, you know, like it's slim pickings out there. And it's got this country twang to it. You know, she's really doing a lot. She's dabbling a lot of different genres on the album. But this is my favorite line. This is the end, the song. Since the good ones call their ex is wasted and since the Lord forgot my gay awakening, then I'll just be here in the kitchen, serving up some moaning and bitching. Like I love that she's like, since I'm not gay.
Starting point is 00:14:54 since I have to date men that this is what I'm working with and so I'm just going to complain about it and that is so real she's so real for that I love it I just was listening to it my car like damn this is so real I know I actually don't like
Starting point is 00:15:10 you're just better at music somehow yeah I know you're better I'm a music person yeah I just you're so much better like if you said to me like what are your five favorite songs on the album I'll see you in an hour I'll have to write them down well Tessa what are you liking So, Lida Girls is my favorite.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Yes, Lida Girls is great. I think that one in coincidence, those are the two that are like, not her. Because I think her two singles are some of the strongest singles that they've released. I think that was like really smart, but I think Lita Girls and Coincidence are my two. Okay, those are Tessus. I loved Please, Please, Please. And this is like, no, shoot, do espresso. Maybe I got a little played out.
Starting point is 00:15:43 I don't know. But I loved, please, please, please. I love the little clap part of it. Like, I'll just, I'll be on the Peloton. So I just, with the video, I mean, I'm a little. a fan. I love to see it. So her music video for Taste, people are saying that it is a lot of this album and the music video is about Sean Mendez and Camilla Cabello. So Camilla Cabello and Sean Mendez, if you guys aren't familiar, they were together for years. They broke up briefly. He dated
Starting point is 00:16:11 Sabrina Carpenter for several months. And then at Coachella, Camilla Cabello and Sean Mendez seemed to rekindle the romance. And about half of the songs on this album are about somebody who kind of leaves her and goes back to their girlfriend, the previous girlfriend. So people are saying that that's who this is about. Huh. Do you think that that's true? I don't know. I mean, I think she's really expressing herself in her music videos. And so I could, I could definitely believe it. And then what, it's Wednesday Adams plays the other actress in the video. Jenna Ortega. Jenna Ortega. I like some on her Wednesday. And then they kiss, which it's very like Britney Christina, VMA's hot kiss moment. Rain and I recently posted this funny like wedding promo video.
Starting point is 00:16:51 of us kind of doing a first look and it's very realistic to a wedding video and I just thought more comments would say like you guys should have kissed I was thinking people were going to say that oh really? When I sent it to our video editor she was like I thought you guys were going to kiss it would have been very Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortaica we're not going to kiss it would be so weird it would be so I can't imagine not because I don't think you're beautiful it's just it's not a vibe. Ew I don't want to know like how you kiss. Ew Ashley I know it's so weird. I'm going to Amazing kiss are of great lists.
Starting point is 00:17:22 I bet you are. My lips were the only thing I didn't buy on my old face. My nose, too. But people are saying that, you know, Jenna Ortega is a smaller brunette Latin woman. Yeah. She's giving Camilla Cabella. She's specifically, yes,
Starting point is 00:17:35 imitating Camilla Cabello in the video. I mean, who's to say? But it wouldn't be that far of a leap that that's exactly what this is all about. Yeah. Okay. So we are transitioning into some music news today. That's going to be a lot of what we talk about.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Just one quick thing that Oasis is rumored to reunite. Is this like for sure? Well, they're reuniting for shows. They've released, I don't know how many exactly, but they're doing shows in the UK in Dublin next year. So they're going to headline Glastonbury and then I read they're going to do 10 Wembley
Starting point is 00:18:05 shows. What are you even saying to me? Taylor Swift. That's right. Taylor Swift did Yes, I swear to God. This was the... That's a million seats. I know. People are ready. No, no, no. This, okay. Best selling our festival. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:18:22 It's breaking a record. It's a record 10-night run at Wembley Stadium. What are you even saying to be? Taylor did 9, by the way, not 10. Yeah. So they've been tweeting stuff out, date and time. And then what this says in the NPR article? It says...
Starting point is 00:18:33 Okay, so the official Oasis, like Instagram has the tour poster for it. They're doing Cardiff Stadium, 4th and 5th of July. Then they're doing the 10 nights at Wembley. Yeah, so they're doing this. I cannot believe the words you guys are saying to me. I know. And so I knew they broke up. I mean, I was a fan who wasn't, you know what I mean, until I feel like guys made it their whole personality.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Like, well, anyway, let me play Wonderwall. You know, like it kind of turned into a thing. But I really liked them. I mean, I was young, but I kind of forgot they, like, really feuded for years, these brothers. You know, it was like the brothers that were like years of insults, incidents, and infighting. And there was, I read, I'm not going to get into it all, but it's kind of interesting. I read a whole timeline of all their public feuds. And then they banned broken.
Starting point is 00:19:21 up minutes before they were set to take the stage at a festival in Paris. So I think people are like, how can I trust it? You know, like, what if you're buying tickets to the show at Wembley Stadium? You're like, what if they break up on night seven? That's crazy. Like, I was watching some comedian say that. He was like, you know, you spend all this money. It was Alec Flynn, which is such, he's so cute. I love him. So you guys should follow Alec Flynn. And he was like, you know, you spend all this money on Taylor Swift tickets and you know you're going to get a three and a half hour, whatever the fuck show. Like, how can you trust? They won't break up before the show. You can't. Yeah. No, it's a good point. They're really volatile.
Starting point is 00:19:52 And they're brothers. Crazy family food. This is crazy. I know. Men, you can't trust them. Okay. And then I got to ask you, what if we broke up right before a show? I mean, you and I just don't roll like that. We're women. So, and we've had an argument before a show. And we've been like, we are going to sit here and finish this argument. We have to. Getting on stage. St. Louis. St. Louis. We turned it around. To be fair, I started that argument. The one time, Rain and I had adjoining rooms.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I was standing on the other side of the door swaying back and forth like Eminem like I'm about to do it. Oh my God. And I just busted up in through the door. Yeah, I think you and I would just figure out a way. I mean, also, listen, I'm just going to say it, we care more about our audience than Oasis does. Yeah, exactly. We should have 10 nights at Wembley. Yeah, we should.
Starting point is 00:20:36 I can't imagine. We wouldn't do that to people. People dress up. They get drinks. Exactly. They go to happy hour. They pay money to travel. Yeah, they buy their wedding dresses.
Starting point is 00:20:43 It'd be so crazy if like you and I got in a fight and then one of us was like, fuck it, doing it alone. Like if you were like, fine, go do it yourself and I'd be like, I will. I have nightmares about that all the time. And I just went out there. I was like, Rayna won't be coming out tonight. Everyone booze. I start crying. I do feel like if one of us could do it solo, it's not me. Well, I'm a solo performer. Tessa steps in. Hit it, Tessa. Ryan just sits on stage. You interview Ryan. Okay. Well, we have had moments where the other person has had to kind of, blackout. No, to carry the show. Like, when my body suit popped out in New Haven and I had to like, I sat down. This body suit was already very tight on my pussy. Hanging out by a friend.
Starting point is 00:21:28 It was like, yeah, hanging out by a thread. I mean, it was snap, but it was tight down there. I have a long torso. And I sat down and as I plopped out on my thing, I felt it and then it started to come up and then it was coming out the back. And I was like, I have to go fix this. And I never could fix it. I just had to try to tuck it in. And meanwhile, you're out there. You're like, so anyway, guys, how we do it? And it's at the beginning of the show when we would be, like crowdworking anyway and you just had to. That's the part of the show I could do alone. I could do the dance competition alone.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Yeah. I could do. I could do, I could host other people doing stuff alone. You can do, Rayne, you could do it. You really do. I'm great. I do a good job. Step up to the plate.
Starting point is 00:22:00 Like I feel like what was, we mentioned this earlier, but when we co-hosted for Nick Vile, right? Raina just took it away. Yeah, I can do it, but you're really the solo performer of the group. Anyways, our final bit of Goss music news, Chapel Rone. Chaparone, late to the party, but I'm here, obsessed. Do you walk around your house just going, H-O-T-O-G-O-G-O. I like walk around like a cheerleader. Just quit clapping. I love her. So I first
Starting point is 00:22:24 heard about her at Gov-Ball. I just feel like Gov-Ball was all this girl power with Renee Rapp and her. Like the women were the highlight of Gov-Ball I felt like. So I was like, and then she just blew up. It feels like this crazy meteoric rise, but she's been doing this. You know. She's 2017. Yeah. So it's not to her. Like she's been out here doing this and hustling. And I just think it's like it's been a lot at once. And I think she's trying to deal with that as well. But I'm just obsessed with the music. I mean, it's like got the girly pop vibes, but not all of it.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Like it's for grown folks too. Like it's really soulful. Like she's certainly her own unique vibe, but there's hints of Taylor Swift. But like I feel like with more soul, that's not a dig to Taylor Swift. She's more like folksy and poppy, you know. But it's like kind of that Lana Del Rey vibe sometimes. Like Olivia Rodrigo. And then she's got like a Cindy Lerickie.
Starting point is 00:23:15 opera thing going. Like, she's just amazing. Her voice is incredible. I mean, I think she is like a one of a kind voice the way I, not quite how I feel about Miley Cyrus, but like she is such an incredible voice and she's based all of her looks and her costumes off of like burlesque and drag. And she just, she looks the part so much. And I guess is sort of struggling with this meteoric rise. Yeah. So we want to talk about how she came out and kind of said like, leave me alone, you know, to stop and hear my boundaries and stuff like that. But I read her article in interview magazine, Bowen Yang from S&L interviewed her for interview. And it even starts out. It says it's not easy being chaparone. America's newest pop star may have achieved peak fame, but the singer-songwriter still identifies as a queer kid from Missouri, struggling to make
Starting point is 00:23:57 sense of her identity in a world that loves to scrutinize women. Since dropping her slow burn hit, the rise and fall of a Midwest princess in 2023, the 26-year-old drag queen turned modern-day Kate Bush has spent the summer stealing festivals with her undeniable anthems while grappling with her newfound fame, sometimes on stage. stuck out to me because again, you know, she's been out here hustling, doing this for a while. And the one quote that stuck out, she said, I never really expected it to grow this big. I feel like I peaked a couple years ago. Back then, I was like, I sold out Bowery Ballroom and that's crazy, which Bowery Ballroom is three, 400 people, you know, like to be like, oh my God,
Starting point is 00:24:31 I'm on stage at Bowery Ballroom and now she's the number one act at these festivals. She's not even the headliner and she's drawing crowds bigger than the headliners. I think she's trying to manage it. Yeah, she feels like somebody that has not spent time in the PR machine that Taylor Swift has. And she is this new generation of star that's like, I'm not going to adhere to the rules of society that you all are adhering to. And she put up this video last week and pretty aggressively said,
Starting point is 00:25:01 like, I don't like the way fans are approaching me. And I shouldn't have to be approached like that in the line from the video that I took. I don't agree with the notion that I owe a mutual exchange of energy time or attention to people. I do not know. I do not trust who creep me out just because they're expressing admiration. Women do not owe you a reason why they do not want to be touched or talk to. There was a part of the message that was also like, this is fucking weird and creepy and like kind of like leave me alone. Stop hugging me. Stop asking for photos. You know, which I respect the message wholeheartedly.
Starting point is 00:25:30 You know, and other artists have said that they respect it too. And Haley Williams from Paramore was like, someone had to say, you know, because you look at someone who gives all of them self to their fans and to the public into the paparazzi and they're people pleasers and they don't want to ever upset anybody and they turn into Britney Spears. I mean, we've seen it happen. Like, you need to have boundaries. Yeah. I don't like the tone of it, but I don't disagree with the message. And, you know, I think that unfortunately, this is one of those things that does sort of come with the territory. People are super fans. They're going to want to hug you, take photos. I mean, I hate to say, like, if you don't want that, you can't really be a celebrity, you know? And it's not fair. That people think that they have access to you and your body and your time all that. And to be a woman.
Starting point is 00:26:10 in that's super frightening and how many people have stalkers have really bad experiences with fans. I can't even like a mat. People feel, I love our fans. I love when our audience runs up tests. Like, can I take a photo? I love it. I mean, 99.99% of experiences are always so good. But sometimes people will thrust a camera on our faces and be like, can you take a photo?
Starting point is 00:26:28 Yeah. I'm like, can you just be nice to us? Yeah. I mean, like you said, 99% are great. My worst interactions have been few and far between. And it's someone, they come up and they just stick a phone in your face. I've had people just take a selfie and be on their way. Didn't even say like a listen to the show.
Starting point is 00:26:44 You know what I mean? And I hate those interactions. You feel like a piece of meat. It's very weird. It's like you just want this to what put on social media, brag to your friends, you know. But they're almost always so positive. People always ask if they can hug us. I don't know if it's me or you too.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Like I find it maybe because I go in for the hug. I do it. But more often than not, someone says, can I hug you? I think it's really sweet, really endearing. I'll hug our fans all day, you know. But that, We don't have the same type of fans. We're not superstars. I think people are really also probably identifying with her experience and really feel like they know her and they don't. But the goal
Starting point is 00:27:18 as a singer-songwriter is to make people feel like they know you. So again, she's young. She's going to make her own mistakes. The tone, I wouldn't use the tone. But she can use her of tone she wants. You know, it's almost refreshing. I guess the only thing is like you will turn people off if you say people are like weird and crazy because you're not necessarily weird and crazy. You're not necessarily weird and to see her and ask for a photo. She's probably talking about the extreme fans, but then other people feel like, oh my God, am I a fucking creep?
Starting point is 00:27:48 Because I saw her once and said hi to her. You know, like, you just, you got a total line, but you also don't have to. I mean, Doja Katz is crazy shit about her fans. Like, I would never, she tweets it out. She makes them feel like they're creepy weirdos too and people still love her.
Starting point is 00:28:02 I mean, maybe she would be more popular if she didn't do that. I mean, who's to say? I hate the whole thing, like, these things come with the territory. People should never, like, harass you or touch you without asking, but like your success is dependent on fans. So like it is the nature of fandom that sometimes people like don't know how to act. And I, I really like that
Starting point is 00:28:19 she's opening up the conversation and can potentially make some changes in the behavior. I think that's important to do. But the fame may become too much for her. Her fans may turn against her or we're all just like, she's a bad bitch and it is what it is. Love her music or don't and deal with it. So one of the lines that really stuck out for me is she said, I feel more love than I ever have in my life, but I also feel more unsafe than I ever have in my life. And I, I mean, that hit me. Like, this is just like a young girl. It's like, I don't know how to deal with this. Yeah, it happens so quick. It has felt like she's become a household name within the summer. Mm-hmm. An explosion. Yes. So, yes, don't love the tone. I like the message. Somebody does
Starting point is 00:28:54 have to say it and maybe it will sort of pave a new way for young female artists going forward. Yeah. It's just so funny because it's like everybody's listening to this album that's like last year as if it's like so because we're just kind of finding out about her. Like, it's so crazy. You don't see this happen a lot. No. You know? But I love my kink is karma.
Starting point is 00:29:13 I'm obsessed with it. Love. Casual. Love. Getting her pussy eight in the front seat of a car. Hot to go. And then I love this song, California. That's like just this slow, like, soulful, like dramatic.
Starting point is 00:29:24 I mean, she's just got the range. She does. She's a lot of range. She's just fun, man. Yeah. I like it. She could say whatever she want. Like she could be as big of a bitch as she want.
Starting point is 00:29:33 I say bitch. It's never an insult. By the way. Like a beach. Yeah, a little beach. But, like, I don't know. She can take that tone as much as she wants. I'm still going to listen to her music.
Starting point is 00:29:40 It doesn't bother me. Okay, so let me ask you a question. Do you think that musicians have a little more carte blanche to act like that than an actor per se? Why? Do you think that, like, people are just like, it's rock and roll, man. They could say whatever they want. But, like, an actress that said that people would be less inclined to go see. If Blake lively responded to what's been happening, well, this is not the same because I think people are really disappointed in Blake lively.
Starting point is 00:30:05 and I agree. So I guess that's a bad example. I just, if a female actress was like, don't touch me, don't fucking feel like you have the ability to come up to me. Like, do you feel like it would hit different? I don't know. I think people are giving her a pass. I think she's like, it happened so quickly. She think people are kind of being sympathetic to it, which I like to see, because usually we just like to tear women down, not way, but, you know, society, culture. So I don't know. I think people don't love the message. Don't touch me. Don't talk to me. You know, because you want to see someone that is gracious to their fans. So who knows?
Starting point is 00:30:38 I also don't think that she's not gracious to her fans. I think she's just like, please respect my boundaries. And talking to a very small subset of people. Yeah. Like I think the majority of people are really nice and respectful. Don't actually crazy people. But I love her music so much.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I think she's so talented. It would take a lot to turn me off. Because if I see her in the street, don't talk to her. Like if I saw on the show, I'm like, well, I know the rules. Don't talk to chapel. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Maybe she's just going to build this armor around her by being this type of person and then she just gets to like live free in the world. I'm just imagining you at dinner with like a bunch of people and somebody's like, oh my God, Ashley, is that chaperon? You're like, don't talk to her. She doesn't like that. Don't talk to her. Don't talk to her.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Don't talk to her. Do you have more to say, Tess? I was just curious. It's what if the gender rolls were reversed. It's like if this was a man that rose to this level of fame at that young. And if he said it, I don't think it would be as demonized or if it was like ostracized. I think it's because I think it comes a lot to her being a woman like when Taylor's had the lawsuit of like when people take photos with her, they grab certain parts of
Starting point is 00:31:33 the body too. I think it's like I think that's part of it too and it's just a woman speaking out about it makes you come across as a bitch whereas a guy would be like oh I'm setting boundaries. Yeah like I don't know. Justin Bieber got dragged for stopping doing meet and greets when he, I mean, I think it's like anybody with a fandom like this people will have stuff to say. I always think that people want to tear down women more than men. Like I've been feeling that a lot lately. It's been on my mind. So I do appreciate the sentiment. But yeah, I could see a world in which this doesn't even make the news as a man. They'd be like, oh, well, that's just him. He's a dick. You know, like, but I do remember.
Starting point is 00:32:03 I remember Justin Bieber stopping doing meet and greets and people had the similar reaction. They were like, how could you do this to your fans? You know? I feel like, to Tess's point, when a man acts like this first life, so Tom Cruise, there was this story about how he's being verbally abusive, really abusive. People recorded it on set in 2020 to the cast of this movie that he was on. And people recorded it released in. I don't know that he's widely known for being a verbal abuser, but like Catherine Heigel,
Starting point is 00:32:29 everybody's like, oh, Catherine Hegel, bitch. Totally. Yes. Grand scheme of things. Absolutely. Yeah. I think grand scheme of things, people come for women. I think in this specific instance, she was trying to be a bitch.
Starting point is 00:32:39 I do just want to say, though, since it came up, I just feel like I have been noticing the way that, like, women, when women are kind of being, like, torn down in pop culture, how, like, there seems to be an excitement around it. And I'm not saying we shouldn't hold people accountable, you know, but there's something like when a woman fucks up, like, like Blake Lively or right now people are coming at Caitlin Bristow or a. whatever. And I'm not going to share all my thoughts and feelings on these people. You know what I mean? Because I do, I'm not like, leave them alone. You know, I get it. We're rational. Yeah. But there's something about the energy other women on the internet take. Like, it's like a real excitement and a real joy to tear women down and like really revel in the downfall of a woman. And then like the vitriol and the dragging of them. Like without considering that there's maybe more to the story or that they're a human too. I know people just feel like entitled to say the meanest shit you ever.
Starting point is 00:33:32 heard about like an A-list celebrity and I understand that but I just think that there's like are we doing it to men like just let's check ourselves like do we feel the same way about it when we hear about a man doing something terrible which is all the time you know like I think the whole thing is that the media tears out women so you're just going to see it in the news more but I mean I saw a comment on one of the Blake lively videos and it was just like I get this and I do too but I hope that we're giving the same energy to actual abusers in Hollywood. You know, like, all I'm saying is check yourself because I check myself too. Like, because I'll get going and I don't see men doing this as much to each other.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I mean, I could list, I totally agree with you. I could list off hundreds of women I've seen this happen to in the last several years and almost no men. And I think the women are more likely to respond. So you see so many men that have on the internet more. We create content more. Yes. I think that like when you see men have huge scandals, I mean, the two things that really
Starting point is 00:34:27 come to mind is Justin Timberlake when he was like openly. photographed. Not necessarily cheating on Jessica Biel, but with one other woman's hands between his thighs and vice versa. On top of all the other Justin Timberlake stuff. But yeah, I don't think he's been canceled for this and the way a woman would have been canceled for being photographed, having an affair. I think about Andrew Huberman being on the cover of New York Magazine for being a real scumbag. And that wasn't even a blip on the radar. Men were praising him. People loved it. So women just, it's not a hot take, but like women don't get the past that men get ever. Yes. And this is not indefensively gladly.
Starting point is 00:34:59 She's just an example because she's the one being torn down the most. And I see a lot of, I'm not going to do it. There's some problematic. Yeah, of course. But I just, I think of what Elise Loonen said on our first episode of the year. If women can just get on side with each other, the men won't be a problem. And we just are not there yet. Hold people accountable, criticize them.
Starting point is 00:35:16 We're allowed to do that. They're living in the public eye. It's not that. It's just like, are you so excited to take down a woman? So excited to get on your TikTok or whatever and say the meanest shit ever. Like, without maybe not knowing the whole story. all the time, whatever it may be, the examples I've said excluded, just whatever it is. Like, it's just an internal check and that can be your internalized misogyny.
Starting point is 00:35:39 It really frustrates me because you just don't see men doing this shit. No, I think women are just a little more colorful and fun to take down because they're more online. There's more to say and they're more open. If you don't do this to men. Yeah. So as a segue, actually, I thought this. So love is blind UK.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Yeah. The finale came out last week. The reunion came out as we're recording this yesterday. And the person who I think has gotten the most hate and vitriol on that show is one of the females. Who? Catherine. Catherine. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:36:06 Sorry. I've just in like a Sabrina and Stephen headspace. Yes, Catherine. We're going to get to Sabrina and Stephen, obviously. That's the whole conversation. But people have really dragged her and been really, really viciously hard on her. And I don't think she deserved it. I don't think she deserved it either.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I think she's easy to hate. I think she definitely shouldn't have been on TV. I think she has a lot of therapy to do. I think she has a lot of trauma. from her adoption and like different things. I sympathize with her. I definitely think she's got some issues and she was not a great partner.
Starting point is 00:36:36 And Freddie being like the kindest, sweetest human alive, really in comparison to her made it even worse. And so, but yeah, the way I've heard some people talk about her, just like the hatred. I'm like, you don't know her. She hasn't done anything that terrible. No, literally.
Starting point is 00:36:49 I mean, in the grand scheme of reality shows. Yeah, yeah. And I've seen a lot of talk online. You brought this up yesterday and I've seen other people talk about this, the difference of reality shows in the UK and the U.S. Yeah, I mean, it's just interesting to watch the reunions because most reunions, not all,
Starting point is 00:37:04 but a lot of reunions of the U.S. shows with American cast are so much yelling and screaming. And this was so, like you said, civilized. Well, there was six couples, right, that made it to the end, that made it to the altar. Three of the six chose to get married. And I will say during the reunion, all six couples got the same amount of air time. The ones that ended up together, you see all their last year together and all the cute stuff they've done in their homes. They got just as much airtime as once it broke up. And you would never, ever see that in United States television. Right. Like, I've seen reunions where I'm like,
Starting point is 00:37:36 why was that person even there? Two seconds. They were on the end of the couch. They were barely out the frame. So far from Andy, they weren't even in the same room and barely spoke. Crazy. They just sit them at the end. But I mean, they all deserved airtime. There was a story. There was no real dud of a couple. I wanted to know. You know what I mean? They were all really intriguing to me. But yeah. So the big, you know, you want to see in the reunion. Did anybody date after the altar and has anybody split up. So the big news is Sabrina and Stephen have split. And it's crazy because they were the couple that were, I would say, the least drama. The most sure you were somebody was going to get married. So much so that they opened the wedding episode with the two of them.
Starting point is 00:38:13 And they always open with the couple getting married that you're like, well, I knew they were going to get married. You know? No drama there. Right, right, right. You just, I wasn't sure about, I was so sure about them. He seemed so sure. His vows were so beautiful. And she lives in Belfast. He lives in London, and one of the things they discussed was the distance, but they both seemed really open to moving around. And we did message Sabrina to come on the show, and she was so kind and wonderful and gracious, and we couldn't make it happen today.
Starting point is 00:38:38 But I do just want to say she was really wonderful in the messages. And so the backstory with them is they lasted 86 days. So based less than, I thought even, I thought four months, but less than three months. They lasted. She went to see him seven times. She said in London, he came out to see her twice in Belfast. And I was listening to her in an interview
Starting point is 00:38:59 and they said who was the biggest difference between on screen and real life? And she said the most different in real life that on screen there was a seismic shift in what Stephen said that he was willing to do in what he actually did. I mean, it broke down quick. Yeah. Who's to say? I mean,
Starting point is 00:39:15 I don't think he was like completely faking who he was as a person. I mean, it sounds to me like he just didn't, if you guys watched it, you know this. He just wasn't making the efforts she was making down to like her having some of the things that he liked at her house and he didn't do the same for her in terms of like coffee and tea and ironing board and things like that and he just didn't think of that which not every guy
Starting point is 00:39:34 is like thoughtful like that but to me it just sounded like he wasn't making the effort and didn't really want to even coming down to the disparity in their visits to each other so I don't know I mean I also think there's a lot of guys running around single hot of a certain age unmarried and there's a reason why they want to find somebody they think they do they haven't really found themselves yet. So they kind of put that on a woman and they really do go in full force, full court press and they play house for a certain amount of time. And it happens and we were both reading this book called Ghost by Dolly Alderton and really an incredible description of like these types of guys. And it's a fictional story, but it still is like very real to life of that type
Starting point is 00:40:17 of guy. And I don't know if that's what happened. I don't know if he got all wrapped up in the love story of it all. And then when it actually came down to to do the work and be a good consistent partner he didn't want to and that's tale is old as time yeah i think he probably wanted the being able to wanting something and being able to do it are not the same thing and i think these shows are fucking crazy and you're not supposed to marry somebody you've known for four three weeks yeah so i mean it's insane to me in general but i thought that they talked about where they were going to live and what they were going to do and it just sort of broke down that's not really what seemed to have happened it was clear to me from both their social media as they weren't together yeah yeah yeah his is his is so
Starting point is 00:40:51 thoughty he is the thoughty's social media i've ever seen I mean, he's in a bikini, a bikini bathing suit every single day. Yeah, but I'm telling you, there's something doesn't really add up. He's like, I have to journal every morning, grad to journal, and I'm all woo-woo and this and that and spiritual. And then he's got to be the ones wearing a thong and showing off his body. I don't know, which you can be both, but it started to just not really add up. I agree.
Starting point is 00:41:15 He said I wake up every day. I do breath work. I meditate. I journal. I work out. And it's like, and then you find time for bikini pants. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I mean, it is an ocean of thirst trap. on his. She just couldn't be cuter. I love the way she dresses. I just think she was really poised at the reunion. And I thought it was interesting. He did really stand up for himself. He was like really not going to let her completely control the narrative.
Starting point is 00:41:36 But he had no examples of why her narrative was not true. He felt he said you're lying. He didn't say like this is not completely. He said you are lying. But he had no examples of what she was lying about. Unless they cut it. But it didn't seem like it. And so one example.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Give me, give me one. You didn't buy me that ironing board. Yeah. Yeah, so that was pretty much the main highlight. I mean, everything else was kind of as to be expected. And we love the show. It sounds like they're going to do a season two. They definitely teased it.
Starting point is 00:42:04 The only other tea that I thought was crazy from it was Catherine and Freddie. After the wedding and they broke up, he did go to Jersey to visit her for 24 hours, she said, and then he did officially end things. He went, visited her, ended things. And she has been with somebody from the show, Jake, for one year. And they lived together. And so they've been together for a long time. Which they didn't say. but they did reveal Ollie and Charlotte dating.
Starting point is 00:42:29 So Charlotte was another person in the pods. Ollie neither. I was like, can we just, can you guys form a full sentence? They were like, blah, blah, blah,
Starting point is 00:42:35 blah, blah, but just say it. What? Oh, when they were trying to ask if they were dating? Yeah, no, they really were just like,
Starting point is 00:42:42 you know, stuttering over it. But yeah, so I thought it was interesting that they said they were dating but they wouldn't give us a tea on Catherine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Oh, maybe she's trying to protect her piece. No, I saw it in an interview. She's out. She's out with it. this tea came from Catherine so anyways the two couples that are still together benign Nicole and Bubby and
Starting point is 00:43:01 Jasmine I love how he said Bubby Booby Booby You know I love benign and Nicole You've all You arrived for them very hard
Starting point is 00:43:13 I do too I think they're very cute And in the last year They're videos behind this They're so adorable Dorks They're a little sweet little dorks They're just so positive Couldn't be me
Starting point is 00:43:21 Do you think they ever talk shit now? No. No. They have my nightmare relationship. I love them so much. I love them like this is so much. Okay. Well, I think that's it.
