Starting point is 00:00:02 This week on the snack, Verity, Super Bowl Rumors and Pete Davidson versus influencers. This is a Dear Media production. Enjoy. Hi, guys. Hi, guys. I'm trying to be very quiet to not disturb the bowl and a china shop in my house. I have a rate adult. I have a third foster dog, gumball from Wags and Walks, L.A.
Starting point is 00:00:33 You didn't know her name till just now. I didn't even know it was a girl. until two seconds ago. I have never had a girl dog in my life, not my family, in the home. I can't stop saying like boys and calling her and misgendering her. I'm just not used to it.
Starting point is 00:00:47 But yes, she is a female one-year-old pit bull mix. And she is a lot. I couldn't do it. I'm not strong enough. She's so, I don't understand. No, somebody should adopt her, but I'm just,
Starting point is 00:01:02 I'm a little person. I can't have a big dog. Yes. it's a lot and she is so sweet she's well trained like she's the perfect dog for someone that wants a high energy pit mix and I'll try to get her on screen at some point but I'm not going to wake her up right now she's sleeping on the couch so we don't disturb her when she is relaxing so we are both existing in a state of emergency yes oh can I just wrap it up can I wrap the dog thing up that I was talking about the dog
Starting point is 00:01:34 dog. Okay. Sorry. No, I just want to say that Cody got adopted, my little angel Cody, who you guys saw in multiple episodes. So Cody got adopted by this nice older couple and they're so in love with him. And Zizu, the pug, is still available for adoption as well. So I just want to give an update on my trio of foster dogs that I've had. But yes, low key, the state of California and our household is a bit of a state of emergency. But you have the measles. We have a new state of emergency. So last week we had a Northeaster flooding state of emergency. This week's state of emergency is a measles outbreak. As we are recording, there is 108 cases. So everything is just bad all the time. Yeah. The country is a state of emergency, I would say.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Yeah. Well, let's thank our partners. Okay. Thank you to Quince. She's our long-time love, Quince. Starting point is 00:02:45 Redkin Acidic Grow full system online and start building your healthiest looking hair routine. And we are going to kick it off with a rumor report, music specific rumor report. But we love a rumor. You know, we love an unverified rumor at the onset. I love perpetuating. Maybe be true things. So we'll go chronologically. The first rumor is that Jay-Z could be headlining the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Maybe with Beyonce, people are finding little Easter eggs here and there, but the rumor is that they are struggling to book a headliner. So Jay-Z and Rock Nation are involved in booking a headliner. I feel like we have known this throughout the years. And the sources
Starting point is 00:03:28 claim organizers are facing difficulties locking in a headliner. The game's going to be here in L.A. It's so fine. And it says, if a solo star cannot be finalized, speculation suggests Jayzie could headline the show himself and bring out an all-star lineup of musical friends. I think it's so funny to be like, if I can't find anybody, I'll do it myself. It's very Donald Trump. Remember when he did that shit? What was it? There was like something that no one wanted to perform it obviously because it was associated with him. Being the president of this country. He's like, I'll do it myself. That's fair. That's fair. Who would want that job?
Starting point is 00:03:57 Well, they're also saying that by now there has been a headliner announced, right? This is kind of late in the year that they haven't announced somebody. Right. Like, when do they usually announce it? I just can't believe it's the end of the year. But people are saying that Justin Bieber and Harry Styles were high in the list, but not confirmed, and they don't want to do it. And so this is all rumor and speculation.
Starting point is 00:04:20 But I would die. And I'm already having anxiety about going, if that's the case. Like, I've got to go. I live here. if it's Beyonce and Jay-Z, and we've seen them perform together at the Link, actually, in Philly during the On the Run two tour, and it was incredible. But if it was here in L.A., like the people he would bring out. So I don't know. I, you know, I hope the Rock Nation can find anybody. And I hope J.Z's like, fine, I'll fucking do it. It's crazy. You know, they don't get paid. I wouldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:04:44 They don't. You don't get money? I would have thought that more people would want to do this after Bad Bunny last year. I would have thought that, like, the NFL had some goodwill surrounding it because they continued on with the bad bunny halftime show. So I'm surprised that, like, people don't want to do it. No, it's, they do not receive a traditional appearance fee or paycheck from the NFL. Why would you do it for the love of the game? For the exposure is what they say. And I feel like people are like, no, not worth it.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Nobody performing at the Super Bowl needs the exposure. Right. Like, just do Coachella, which brings us to our next rumor. So there is rumors that Drake may do Coachella. Are you going to go? 100% would have to go to this. All three nights? Well, two weekends?
Starting point is 00:05:31 Two weekends. Okay, right? I'm sorry. I'm just trying to like black out Coachella because we went once and I was like never again. Okay. Maybe you are thinking of when he did do, I think it was the Wireless Festival,
Starting point is 00:05:41 I believe last year. I think that he did three nights, all different performances. Yes. And that's why I think he would be so incredible for Coachella. He would do two totally different performances. Like real fans and real people who wanted to see what it was about
Starting point is 00:05:54 would go both weekends. And he is an incredible performer. He's got the catalog. He's got the charisma. I've seen him once. I saw him with J. Cole. He's just such a fun watch. Like, this makes so much sense.
Starting point is 00:06:06 And he would have two totally completely different weekends. That's my prediction. And I would die to see it. I mean, I don't know. I said yes immediately, but I don't know if I can handle Coachella again. And I think it would be like record turnout and crowds. I would go if I got an artist pass.
Starting point is 00:06:21 So I'm going to manifest that if I could be up in pit or in super VIP, I would 100% go. So let me just put that out in the universe and answer the question appropriately. I'm going to manifest going to Super Bowl. I am not going to manifest going to Coachella. I think I'm done with music festivals maybe for the rest of my life. Maybe is there any other music festival that I really want to go to? I mean, have I ever had fun at a music festival?
Starting point is 00:06:46 I was supposed to go to this music festival recently. It was the Ocean Way Festival down the street in Santa Monica, the killers headlining one day and Olivia Dean the next day. And when I tell you, I had just gotten approved for VIP, super VIP, the proper was doing the VIP. I had just gotten the email that said I was good to go for the weekend with a guest. And, you know, there was deliverables and whatnot. But I was in three hours later they canceled it.
Starting point is 00:07:12 The whole festival, state of emergency. State of emergency. They're like this hurricane something. The beaches eroding. We're getting a little fast and loose with states of emergency, okay? Listen, I'm not saying the measles aren't like a big deal. And I was talking about this with you before, like, 108 cases in like the packed city of New York City. That could explode.
Starting point is 00:07:30 But like 108 of anything doesn't seem like a state of emergency to me. You know what, Raina? I'm going to say that probably at the end of 2019 or early 2020, someone was like, there's only 108 cases of COVID. What could this actually turn into? What can run the tape on it? This is a big deal. I was an early COVID make fun of her.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Like my brother was like, go get toilet paper. And I was like, grow up and stop being such a fun. and baby and I was wrong. I never hoarded toilet paper. I don't think I ever hoarded it. I mean, we had plenty of it here in New York City. All right, well, look out for those musical performances and states of emergency. Or not.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Because there are rumors. Just live your life. So the biggest premiere, biggest movie premiere, probably of the fall season so far, Verity, Colleen Hoover book that was readapted into a movie starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett, who rose from the dead. This is, so Ashley and I both read the book, love the book. We'll tell you our thoughts on the movies. Overall, very interesting feedback and reviews coming out of the blogosphere. So, um, what about Raina? Before we get into it, I need to know how you felt about Josh Hartnett, all grown up and puffy.
Starting point is 00:08:41 He just looked old to me. Okay, I loved seeing him, though. That's a real deep cut. I have not seen him in anything since our 20s. what was the last thing we saw him in? I don't know and I don't care. I'm not going to look it up. I want to just think of him as what was he even in? I don't know. I want to remember him as he was.
Starting point is 00:09:02 He was a heart throbb. And now he's just kind of like, listen, he's still, I mean, I would hit it. But like, he just was. I thought he was appropriately cast, I will say. I thought that him and Anne Hathaway were like good ages for this role. Dakota Johnson, I thought seemed,
Starting point is 00:09:20 I mean, she's phenomenal, but I thought she was older than the original character. Okay, I have my answer. The last time I remember seeing him was 2001 in Pearl Harbor. 25 years ago. My high school graduation year, Pearl Harbor in the theater. That's the last memory I have of him. Is he the husband that dies or is he the husband she gets with the friend?
Starting point is 00:09:46 She gets with Ben Affleck after Josh Hartnett dies. Okay. Right? I don't know. Guys was 25 years ago. Okay, so let's hear what you think. Let's hear your thoughts on the movie. You know, this movie got kind of dragged.
Starting point is 00:10:01 I mean, it got a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes by critics, I will say. Yes. And I was looking through all these reviews before I went and saw it. And, you know, there's headlines from like the New Yorker Verity as a criminal waste of talent. I went into it really open-minded being like all these outlets are dragging it. But I think everybody likes to have a negative take because it's their hot take. I think everybody's like rushing to say something negative about everything all the time. I didn't mind it.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Was it the greatest movie I've ever seen in my life? No, but I thought it was like well-casted. I thought the acting was good. I thought it, I actually thought it could have been longer. What I felt that they removed was all of Lowen's backstory and you don't really know anything about the character. But like, was it an entertaining two hours? Yeah. I found it entertaining enough.
Starting point is 00:10:46 I liked it. I'm with you. I, yeah, I enjoyed it. I didn't love it. I loved the book, but not in a, it's my favorite book that changed my life and they have to get the movie right kind of thing. Uh-huh. I enjoyed it. I do like Dakota Johnson as an actress.
Starting point is 00:11:04 People have mixed feelings on her. I feel like we've talked about she always seems to play the same character, which is probably how much how she is in real life. I mean, if that was Sydney Sweeney, I would have walked out. Like, the movie itself couldn't have kept me in that theater if that was Sydney Sweeney's air time. But I like Dakota Johnson. It didn't blow my mind. I don't regret going. I think the trailer was completely misleading. I think the trailer made it look like a horror film. There were a lot of bloody mouths. That's their theme, I guess, a lot of blood in the
Starting point is 00:11:35 mouth. There was like one good jump scare, but it wasn't scary. It was sort of eerie throughout. And then at the very end, I feel like it picked up the pace. But there was a point maybe midway through where I was like, is this boring? Like, it feels slow. And like, I just love the story. I love the story. I love the book. But again, not too much.
Starting point is 00:11:59 You know, I just was like watching this story that I love unfold. And so I was enjoying it and I liked the cast. So, but I'm sitting there. I went Mr. Shank and I'm like, would he be enjoying this? Like, is this too boring and too slow midway through the movie? But I was still enjoying it. It was this weird moment in my head of like, is this good? They kept overlaying all this really suspenseful music over parts of it that weren't
Starting point is 00:12:27 suspenseful. And so I was like, is anything happening or is the music just creepy? Too much mouth stuff. Too much teeth stuff. It's really creepy mouth. Too much teeth stuff. It really grossed me out. And it is kind of long and then it picks up steam towards the end very quickly.
Starting point is 00:12:44 it was a pretty close adaptation to the book. They did not change that much. The main thing they changed is that they had three kids in the book. But I had kind of forgotten that the first child that died, she sort of verity blamed the second child. There was an allergic reaction. She had like resentment towards the second child that played into why she may have, quote unquote,
Starting point is 00:13:09 murdered her. So people are saying that people who read the, the book, enjoy the movie more. Again, it's like fans versus critics in like a real disparity that almost always happens and always happens with her with Colleen Hoover's adaptations. So it would be like 30% like on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and then Colleen Hoover fans would be almost double or more. So I found that interesting. I want to address what you said because there's a huge swing. So it ends with us got 55% from critics, 87% audience score. regretting you, 29% critic score, 83% audience score and reminders of him, 56 critics, 87 audience.
Starting point is 00:13:50 So it is like a huge swing. Yeah, exactly. I mean, and that's the thing. Like, I wish I could watch this without knowing the book and give it a different review maybe. But it's just like, I like the book and I like the movie, which is weird. Because usually when I love a book, I'm more critical of the movie, but I'm just like, yeah, I like this. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:14:10 You know, it's fine. That's what I felt. I wasn't mad at it. I think I also have enough distance from the book. I read it three and a half years ago. Like, I don't remember it as much. If I just saw this as like a piece of art, it's fine. It's good.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Didn't change my life, but I like the story a lot. You know what? I think that is the best way to do it when there's years between and it's not fresh in your mind. And so you know it loosely the story, but you kind of forget what's going to happen. I think that's a perfect way to do it. I think I read this during COVID, Verity. Oh, wow. But maybe it was 2022.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Regardless, it was years ago. But the major debate, and this happened after the book came out to, was which is real, the letter or the manuscript. So is Verity the villain and the manuscript was real and the letter was just a diversion or to throw her off the scent or is her husband, the villain, as is Loan. And the letter was real. And the manuscript was actually just this demonic writing exercise. So I want to know what you think because I don't know your answer. I have just, I've racked my brain. I don't know if I have an answer.
Starting point is 00:15:09 I've gone back and forth so much. And like, I like either ending. I mean, it would be so sick and insane for somebody to actually feel those feelings that she wrote in the manuscript that like she hates her children. She resents them. They took her husband away from her. I mean, it's so sick. Yeah, but what sick are that or making it up? I don't, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:34 That's weird too. That's weird too. I really don't know. But like, her husband's like a fucking weirdo too. He sees this girl get hit by a car and they're covered in blood. He doesn't mention that they're going to go to a meeting together afterwards. Like, I'm really torn and I wish I had a definitive answer. So you have to tell me yours and maybe I'll take yours.
Starting point is 00:15:52 No, but this is why it's so good or so frustrating. But this is why that it can leave readers or viewers debating this forever. That's what makes it good. That's why you know she created something good. And I'm not some Colleen Hoover Stan. but like this is good, you know, that we are even having this conversation. Josh Hartnett, I forget his name. What's his name?
Starting point is 00:16:14 Has the husband? I don't care. We only know the women's names. But he's weird too. He's deranged. She murdered her. And Loan was an accomplice. Like, they're all deranged people.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Uh-huh. And I want to believe women. But I think it's hard not to say manuscript when you have read the whole book or watched the whole movie painting that picture. I think it's really hard to change your mind at the end. when you have watched it play out as if the manuscript is real the entire time. I think manuscript, I think all the signs are there that she is really twisted. The fact that she faked her own paralysis, she got a thumbtack push into her hand and didn't
Starting point is 00:16:52 flinch. Like, even in the interviews, what is the deal with this old timey voice? She dresses like a first lady from the 80s. She was very campy and weird. She speaks, like it's from a different time. Like, she's not an authentic person. and so I think she's just the more twisted one and that the manuscript is real,
Starting point is 00:17:13 but everybody's fucked up. You're right, everybody's fucked up. Also, a person that could fake their own paralysis could absolutely have felt like this towards her children, killed her child. Like she's crazy.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Or made it up, though. I know, I don't know. I don't know. You guys, let us know what you guys think because I'm, it's rare that I just don't.
Starting point is 00:17:32 I can't land on an opinion. I mean, I tend to lean towards what you're saying because she is so twisted and fucked up. I mean, either way, she's super twisted. And so is he, though, like he was dishonest. Like, he sought low and out, you know? And then he just, like, married her and knocked her up.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Weird as hell. And she was into it. When he admits to her that he sought her out, she got horny. I was like, I mean, I would too. I would run. Maybe Josh Hartnett in 2020 in 2001. It's not creepy if he's hot. No, but then, like, at the end, he's strangling her.
Starting point is 00:18:05 and then Loewen's like, this is how to do it. And you're like, wait, did you kill your mom? Like I had this thought of just like, oh, she's bad too. I don't know. Did they talk more about her being bad in the book? I forget. And I know this was one of your critiques that we just didn't know enough about her backstory. And she seemed totally innocent until she wasn't.
Starting point is 00:18:26 And I'm just forgetting. I mean, I think they do allude in the movie to her having a fucked up childhood. Right. And just bad stuff, trauma that kind of turned her into who she. was. Yeah, that was kind of it. But then, I don't know, that's a leap to being a murderer. But, you know, who's to say? Well, someone who didn't read the book is Alex Earle. And this was last week's headline. But we just want to discuss it on a bigger scale. Alex Earl came out and says she doesn't remember the last book that she's read. Maybe Dr. Seuss was her quote. And,
Starting point is 00:19:01 I got to say, Dr. Seuss catching astray. Like, the whole point. of Dr. Seuss books is to get kids excited about reading. He's like, I failed with this one. Also, by the way, the second book I ever read was Verity. Raina, okay. Remember that summer I discovered reading? Right. As someone who recently started reading. But I just feel like this could not be further proof of the literacy crisis. Like, this is one of the most famous people in America right now. She has her family is a show on Netflix. And she has never read a book. Like, this is the embodiment of America. And it's fine. Like I'm not going to sit here and call her an idiot and drag her. You could read or not. It felt sad to me. She could have been exaggerating. You know, like, I have to beg the
Starting point is 00:19:48 question, why didn't she have to read a book in high school? Like, I think most kids remember, like, I had to read the Great Gatsby. I had to read to Kill a Mockingbird. Like, what happened in Red Bank, New Jersey to the Catholic high school she went to? I looked that up. I didn't know that just offhand. But I'm like, books, don't you remember the books that you were forced to read or did you just not read them. Did you just read the cliffs notes? Like, I just think it's sad because there's so much joy in reading as a kid that was my whole childhood. I got so many free personal pan pizzas for Pizza because of it. And in adulthood, like, I don't know. I don't need to advocate for reading, but it's like it makes you smarter. It makes you have things to talk about at dinner. It's enriching
Starting point is 00:20:26 entertainment. Like, it makes you more informed. I don't know. Like, it's not a flex. And I'm not saying that she said that it was, but it just feels sad to me. And, you know, I think that our audience and our listeners love to read. And anytime we talk about books, they want more and more and more. And I know we have a really intelligent, thoughtful audience and that loves to read. And I'm really proud of that. You know, I think that anytime we talk about books, I'm like, I love that that's who looks up to us and follows us.
Starting point is 00:20:57 Because I just, I just, I don't know, I found the sentiment kind of sad. I found it sad, too. She is a business person and has done a lot. So it like can't be true to me. Like maybe she read books. Maybe she means like for pleasure. Totally. I mean, yeah, maybe we're thinking too much into it.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I don't totally agree with your like she's successful. So she has to be intelligent and has read books. I don't know that that's a direct through line. But, you know, I mean, look who's the president. And I'm not comparing her to him. But, you know, you can go really far being unintelligent. And that is not a dig at her. That is just America, which we will talk about.
Starting point is 00:21:31 I just think, like, Alex, like, have a book in the bank. Goose bumps, 50 Shades. Colleen Hoover, like, Gone Girl. Like, have a book to say. I don't think it's true. And I do think it's a disappointing thing to say if it isn't true. If that's really not the case, that would make me sad also. Because I don't think it's, like, a good thing to perpetuate, like, that you don't read.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Yeah. Now there's, like, a TikTok trend of, like, I don't read either. And I'm like, stop it, girlie. don't do this. Don't like we don't need this. Like oh I'm just like I don't read. I'm so dumb. Like I don't know. I just think it's I obviously just want women to be like smart and informed and you know have enriching hobbies and it's just made me sad. Like that's where we're at. I have complicated feelings about it about like who we make famous in society today and the type of ideals that we prop up. But like has she made all this money independently? Probably. Like is it the dream to be an entrepreneur to be
Starting point is 00:22:31 an influencer. It's a lot of people's dreams. It is. We always say you could prop up worse people. Yeah, for sure. When I put somebody in front of my daughter and say like, this is a role model. She doesn't read. But I was like, she's also a business person. I just, I have, I have the same feelings that you have and it made me sad, but I have like complicated feelings about it. And I know it was like one quote and it might have been taken out of context, but it really, I've been thinking about this constantly for the last week. Yeah, I'm with you. I, this, I wasn't dragging her. I'm just like, it just, it bums me out. And again, And yes, of course, we could have worse role models for sure.
Starting point is 00:23:05 So, you know, that's our feelings on reading and justice for Dr. Seuss. But we do have more to say about this conversation. But let's just take a quick break to talk about our partners. I am telling you guys about no CD. So for a lot of people, millions of people, it's not just anxiety. I think a lot of people have anxiety and stress. But OCD is a totally different thing. this is going to be those what if intrusive thoughts that just take over your brain.
Starting point is 00:23:35 It's not just the organizing stereotype. Again, it's persisted unwanted thoughts. They feel out of character along with mental or physical behaviors you feel driven to do to get relief. Even when it never actually comes, these thoughts can feel very real, which is what makes them so upsetting. It can happen a lot when you're dating and in your current relationship with friendships, with work, whatever it may be.
Starting point is 00:23:53 But the good news is it is highly treatable with the right kind of specialized therapy, which is ERP, exposure and response prevention therapy. proven to be the most effective treatment. And no CD is the world's leading provider of OCD treatment covered by insurance for over 138 million Americans, licensed therapists specialized in ERP therapy in live face-to-face virtual sessions with support between sessions so you're never facing OCD alone. So if you are struggling with OCD or unrelenting intrusive thoughts, no CD can help book a free 15-minute call to get started at nocd.com. Okay. And Quince, it is fall. It's getting colder out. And if you want those pieces in your closet that you reach for time and time again that stand the test of time
Starting point is 00:24:33 that are going to be with you year after year for these seasons. I really can't recommend Quince enough. They make elevated everyday essentials. They use premium materials. So they have Mongolian cashmere. They have fantastic jeans. Ashley and I like the jewelry, the luggage. They have so much on the side if you're like taking a little trip. And so much of it is timeless. So I have so much from Quince now. And it's just lasted me year after year. Wash after wash. And as the weather gets colder. If you want a coat, if you want reasonably sourced down jackets or cozy cashmere sweaters, I have cashmere cardigans, I have cashmere turtlenecks, crew necks. I mean, we have so many colors of cashmere. The silk and the cashmere and linen and all the things. Also, watch this
Starting point is 00:25:14 space for my new chairs. Their furniture is incredible. Rain of these white boucleigh swivel chairs. I want to get two and put them in my living room when I move. Starting point is 00:26:43 also the scalp and hair serum, which is really important to have a healthy scalp. We talked about this on an episode recently with the dermatologist, Dr. Mamina, and how important the scalp health is to your overall hair in the way that it looks. And then the insolp health is. He did an article with variety and an interview. He covered a lot of stuff from being a father to what he thinks about influencers today.
Starting point is 00:27:58 We can play you guys a little snippet. But the thing that really got a lot of attention was him saying that there are these influencer girlies. But he was like, there's girls my age. He's 30. I don't know what that was about. But like he was basically saying that all you're doing is like, come get ready with me. And they're making $40 million. It's exaggeration, a handful maybe of people who.
Starting point is 00:28:19 who were just doing that type of content are making $40 million, maybe not even. People like Alex Earle exclusively. Talk about Alex Earle who doesn't read books. Yeah. But the way he says it, he's just like, and who the fuck are you? Girls are just talking to themselves on there. And they're like, okay, come get ready with me. And I'm like, who the fuck are you?
Starting point is 00:28:39 And I just could not have hated the tone more. I felt like the tone felt like so much contempt for women. Like this wasn't really a discussion about capitalism or wealth disparity. It was just like women only. Like there are also male streamers who were making millions of dollars. There was no smoke for them. This really felt like it was just targeted at women. And I just want to say that I feel like past Pete Davidson's SNL days, the only thing that
Starting point is 00:29:17 keeps him relevant is the women he dates. Ariana Grande, Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale, the list goes on. Like his dating life, his heterosexual dating life centered around women is the thing that has made him famous and able to make money. And one final thing I will say about Pete Davidson is he has no room to talk about how women are making money, considering last year he made a million dollars, most likely, at the Saudi Arabia Comedy Festival. Insane.
Starting point is 00:29:45 He did a comedy festival in Saudi Arabia. Arabia, obviously there was so much criticism surrounding it. How could you do this, knowing what the things this country does or what they stand for? And he's making money that way. The audacity for me. I'm with you. Listen, to back up, I think it's an interesting discussion just topped out generally that, like, yes, there are people making, get ready with me videos and they do make millions of dollars. And it is fucking wild to me. But it is very much don't hate the player, hate the game. I think these people have identified what works. And if brands want to give them money, then good for them.
Starting point is 00:30:20 I don't know. Like, I guarantee anybody making $40 million. I guarantee anybody making $150,000 as an influencer is working hard, is networking. Would I rather be doing that than sitting at a desk at Salesforce? Yes, of course. But somebody making a million dollars doing this is working hard. But outside of this, for Pete Davidson to be the person saying this is crazy. to me.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Like he's out here. What is he done with his life that is so amazing, astonishing, good for society? You're a comedian. I think that's hard. You and I think that's hard. But what has he done to move society forward? Comedy, I feel like isn't even his thing. He does brands.
Starting point is 00:31:03 He's an influencer. He's an influencer. He did the ad campaigns with Reformation. He's doing commercials all the time. Like someone did a mashup of all the brands he's worked with. He's doing the same. thing. And to me, it was just the way he said it. It was, I swear, the way he said this statement, this bitter way he said it, looking like he does was like the beginning of a serial killer
Starting point is 00:31:27 documentary. Like, it just felt so mean. And I will say, like I think one of the top issues plaguing this country is wealth disparity, like I said, late stage capitalism, money allocation. I too think it's crazy that a woman can make millions from Get Ready With Me video or a man can make millions playing video games while teachers can't pay their bills. Like, why do you get to make 10, 20, 30 times what a first responder makes talking to the camera on Instagram? Like, I think this is ass backwards. I find a lot of this sickening, and it's not to take away from whatever somebody wants
Starting point is 00:32:00 to do with their life. And again, maybe that was this point. But it was the way it was said, the way it was directed towards women only. And I just, it really gave me the heck. I'm with you. It really, I think a lot about who we decide to make famous and how we out. allocate money to people and what brands take their money and put it behind. But I would never in my life sit down and with my whole chest scream, who the fuck are you? He's mad. He's like bitter about
Starting point is 00:32:25 something. And so the latest headline that came out was his ex, Olivia O'Brien, has in light of all this made a statement. She said, I was dating him in 2020 and found out we were no longer together by seeing a Snapchat that he went public with a more famous woman, LMAO. He is an absolute joke of a human being. But wasn't that also Cassie David's story, too, that she was dating him and they weren't fully broken up and then she sees he's dating Ariana Grande in the press. Like, this man is this disrespectful history of dating women. I mean, they all have a story. We, you know, things as well. And so I just, this really fired me up. I've never really had a problem with him until I saw that. I just, I thought it was really interesting that he would be the person making
Starting point is 00:33:10 this commentary. He dates influencers. He is an influence. I tend to think comedians are pretty open-minded with like what you do with your life, how you make money. You know, I don't want anybody judging what I do for a living anymore than somebody saying like, all you do is write dick jokes because it's like deeper than that and it's harder than that. He's just, it's an interesting person to be levying judgment against other people. And I think it's also funny speaking of his ex- as Kim Kardashian also did an interview this week where she's talking about her relationship with Lewis Hamilton. And she says, I've been really single for the last five years. Which is funny because she started dating Pete Davidson in August of 2022.
Starting point is 00:33:48 And they were together for nine months. And she was like, just so you guys know, that wasn't with him. I don't count that one. Well, it's funny because you talk about Kim. And when you watch Pete Davidson do this interview, you're like, who hurt you? Which influencer hurt you? It's like, Kim. Kim, you know what?
Starting point is 00:34:06 And we've all been there. You know, in his defense, baby, he really got his heartbroken by Kim. and he's just been wanting to drag influencers publicly ever since. But it was a tough listen, tough watch. Yeah, well, he's been dragged all over the internet. And rightfully so, honestly, I thought he would know better. But here we are. Yeah, well, you know.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Okay, well, moving on to a movie that's coming out tomorrow. I'll just tell you guys a little bit about it, the social reckoning. This is a movie about, it's sort of the follow-up to the social network. Aaron Sorkin directed it. Sorry, Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg. I mean, the movie, maybe, I'll tell you about going to the premiere because I just wanted to make you laugh. But the movie made me kind of sad. It's about social media and how it's been weaponized against us and weaponized against our stream of consciousness and our values
Starting point is 00:34:52 and how Facebook, meta in general, has propped up all this really inflammatory content. They put a lot of money behind pushing that out to people and they connect it to the insurrection and people being really radicalized. And honestly, I found it to be like almost, I thought it was an interesting watch and really well acted, but a hard wall. watch. And it comes out tomorrow. I recommend it. It's just, it's a sad watch. It's just, it's a sad view of what social media has done to our lives and done to really anger people. And anyways, I do recommend it. But I wanted to tell you about going to the premiere because a couple funny things happened. You and I've been to these movie premieres before. And basically it'll be like, you know, there's a red carpet open for like not the cast from like four to five.
Starting point is 00:35:31 And then the cast is on the red carpet from five to six. And then the movie will start at six. And usually the cast will come out and talk to you. So it was like pouring down rain. I was like, I just got to get there a little early. So I get there at like 415, 430. And I'm with our friend Alana, who's our publicist. And I walked through at carpet. It was like a really nice experience, whatever. But then you kind of, it's like a hurry up and wait situation
Starting point is 00:35:51 because you have to get off the carpet and wait for everybody else to walk before they start the movie. And it was pouring down rain. And it was like 430. And I was like, are we've 90 minutes? Like, I can't leave this theater. So we went to the bar at the regal, which like, how big of a piece of garbage do you have to be to a bar in a movie theater? Well, it's funny that you said that Because like when we went to Verity
Starting point is 00:36:12 Like I got a glass of wine Every time we go to that bar The one of the at the prognus It's a little better than the one of the marina Like we kind of like like Shachonk likes the beer selection I got a Kim Crawford Oh yeah Imagine going there ahead of time to sit at the bar for 90 minutes
Starting point is 00:36:28 I'm like literally just picturing Being at that bar for 90 minutes We're there for 90 seconds Hopefully So a lot of I are sitting there I'm in like a really tight, nice outfit that I can't sit or breathe in. Yeah, a fit. These are funny because like most people wear what you'd wear to a movie, which is sweats.
Starting point is 00:36:45 But the people who are at the carpet, like, you get dressed up. So anyways, I'm there. Then they decided to not start the movie until almost 6.45. So at this point, I'm at the bar for two hours. I'm pretty drunk by the time this movie starts. We go in. I'm sitting there. Julia Fox sits behind me who's like, she's written one of my favorite books of all time.
Starting point is 00:37:05 I'm such a fan of hers. I'm like, be cool around Julia Fox. I'm watching the movie. And towards the end, they are interspersing clips of this trial with Mark Zuckerberg with video footage of the insurrection, which was pretty violent and pretty graphic. And I became hysterical, Ashley. Like, involuntary, like, tears are pouring down my face because I'm a little drunk. And also, it is just upsetting content.
Starting point is 00:37:31 And it's just 10 years of trauma pouring out of you in the country, like in one moment. You know. I'm in my little like Alice and Olivia fit. I'm crying. I'm drunk. And then Julia Fox is watching me cry. And then the movie ends, whatever. The cast has to leave the same way that you have to leave outside of a theater.
Starting point is 00:37:50 So they come out. Aaron Sorkin is standing like outside of the theater. And I see him and all I can muster it with my glassy eyes and my tearfield faces, your work is really important. I love that though. Oh my God. He was like, this bitch was sobbing and she really meant a lot to her. I was just like, I got to say something. And he was like, thanks.
Starting point is 00:38:11 Tears all over your face. But yeah, it was a nice, fun experience. I drank a little too much. You're not supposed to really drink that much before a movie. We're not supposed to wait for 90 minutes for a movie to star. Like, that's the thing with these premieres. That's the worst part. If you want to walk that carpet, you got some time to fill.
Starting point is 00:38:29 Yeah, you got some time to kill. And I was like, why don't I bring an outfit? Like, why did I bring something? Anyways, that's my story. Okay, well, yeah, I don't know. I think that movie's really going to affect me. I'm kind of in a weird headspace right now. I'm dealing with some stress in my life.
Starting point is 00:38:43 So maybe I'll just wait on that one. Go into it a little more sober and in sweatpants. Yeah. Okay. Well, you guys check that out. So we're just going to get into our headlines for you. So this is a headline I would have never seen coming. This woman named Krista Pike, who was the,
Starting point is 00:39:04 only woman on death row, I believe, in Tennessee. She was only going to be like the 26th woman, I think, executed even in the country. I mean, this just doesn't happen a lot. I mean, a lot of states aren't using the death penalty, especially like women. You just really don't see it. So there were two failed attempts to execute her via lethal injection in Tennessee. And she's currently hospitalized. By the way, what this woman did was horrible.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Like she killed this other woman. It was really sick. I had never heard of her before. And then I looked into it. She had troubled past herself. She had been assaulted, all these different things. But she did kill this woman in a horrific way when she was 18 or 19. 19.
Starting point is 00:39:45 And then she's been on death row since 1994. Yes. She's just like in this hospital. Do they try again? And I need to know what happened between the first and the second one. What happened? They're like, we're just going to try again tomorrow. Like now we know what's happened after the second one.
Starting point is 00:40:00 But what happened between the first and the second one? And what is the legal ramifications for something like this? It's so crazy to me. But like, I don't know, the legal ramifications for what, not being able to kill her or having to kill her three times? Well, because now this turns into cruel and unusual punishment territory. You know, like there's all these different aspects of this. But it's like, could you, you can't put her on trial again to give her the death penalty? Like, you don't you have to follow her sentencing?
Starting point is 00:40:30 I really don't know. I actually like don't understand how anybody can even be on death row for 32 years. Like that's also like, is this what we're doing taxpayer money? We keep people on death row for 32 years? I just have so many more questions. Well, there's a lot of cases you'd be retried. I mean, it's really bad when you execute an innocent person. So I saw a comment that it was because Krista Pike is a redhead.
Starting point is 00:40:57 So I looked into that. And I was out with two guys this past weekend who are married to redheads. And we were talking about Rob's, one of them, Allison's natural redhead. Like when she was a kid, you could see. And then this other guy, one of his business partners. And I was talking about this. And I was like, guys, I saw this conspiracy theory that she was harder to lethally inject because she's a redhead.
Starting point is 00:41:25 And they were like 100% a thing, 100% a thing. And so I looked it up. And natural redheads may require up to 20% more general anesthesia or higher doses of certain anesthetics compared to people with other hair colors. So they are wilder. It is a thing. No, it's like an orange cat. You know, orange cats are just fucking insane.
Starting point is 00:41:47 Yes. I don't know this. But it's like such a thing. So I didn't know this. Like I guess people always have like a crazy redhead stereotype. But I saw this and looked into it. And of course, they're not saying. saying that's it, by the way. I don't want to perpetuate this conspiracy. They're saying all sorts of
Starting point is 00:42:03 reasons why it didn't work. And then I also heard something that like the companies that make these drugs really don't want to make them anymore. So they're like not what they used to be. I don't know. I've heard various things and seen various things. But I just think that the, I mean, you're probably pretty liable if you're making these types of drugs. But I just think the redhead thing is wild. So redheads fire up into those comments, no pun intended. And let us know if you like even something like Tylenol maybe you need more. Like any sort of. sedative or pain killer. Isn't that crazy? I mean, if somebody was going to survive this, it was going to be a woman and it was going to be a redhead. Like it was going to be Krista Pike.
Starting point is 00:42:39 Like, KFC did a video. It was like, this is the devil. This is the devil incarnate. Like, this is crazy. This woman who did this heinous crime and you can't kill her. Wild. It's insane. All right. Well, stay tuned for the third attempt, you guys. We'll be covering this developing story. I'm just, I'm just curious. Like, our legal system, like, where does it go from here? Is she in a coma? It's really, like, under wraps. I thought she was in a coma. All right. Well, okay. Well, speaking of somebody who did actually die is Ken Urker, and this was Gypsy Rose's fiance. They were estranged. I think they were separated, right? So when he were not living together. I was a little confused about this. So he is the father of her child, right? But they were not living
Starting point is 00:43:22 together, so I don't think that they were together. Okay, so Gypsy Rose Blanchard, we all know. The father of her daughter died in his 34th birthday. And Raina, I just, I hear you saying Ken Urker in my head. Because we have this clip and the way that Raina says, Ken Urker, Urker, I know. The only reason I know his name is because of that clip, we did this whole clip where we said she should be the next Skims model, remember? That people really see like that one.
Starting point is 00:43:47 We're like, go off, mama. You're kidding. But it's just, so this is sad. they have a child together. Gypsy's been through a lot. It sounds like he had a lot of demons. But the TikToks about it were one of the most times where I was like, I'm going to hell. Like people were using Patient Zero audio.
Starting point is 00:44:08 No, Ashley. You didn't say, I stitched this on my TikTok. I feel like I have a blind spot for Gypsy Rose. I just, I'm not in the culture the way other people are. Like I knew you'd have to take this one. I just, I'm not. Like you and Kim. I just, this is like a.
Starting point is 00:44:22 a real blind spot for me. Like, I can't, I can't get it through my brain. Okay. So here's this, I stitch this because I was like, this is, it's, it is fucked up. The comment section was like, we're all going to hell. And like, I, I screamed and I laughed and like, I feel bad. But you didn't see this? Okay. So. And it says, Gypsy Rose's mom scene can arrive. It's a lot of bodies around one person. That song came out of the right time. Yeah. History would show. that she is no stranger to getting rid of someone in her life that may have been a negative force.
Starting point is 00:45:14 So people think that she killed him. You know that. Yeah. That's the whole thing that we were talking about. But like people really think it, like people actually leave it alone. I was going to let you take this one. I prep for these episodes very hard,
Starting point is 00:45:34 but I was like, Gypsy Rose is just, this is her. This is Ashley's Lane. No, this is sad. This is the father of her children. Like, who's to say? But it's just like, I don't know. You know, like, I just think that's kind of what people were saying.
Starting point is 00:45:46 But now I think people took it too far like they always do. And she has launched an anti-bullying campaign. So Gypsy Road is blanchored. For herself. So it says before his passing can experience an overwhelming amount of online scrutiny and what we believe crossed the line into targeted harassment and bullying. So she's basically maybe saying that that place, apart into his passing.
Starting point is 00:46:09 I thought it was more like stop making these TikToks, you guys. But that's a difference. I thought it was don't bully me so much. That's what I thought it was. It's more about Ken. I guess Ken was bullied, but I do think this also falls in the camp of like, you guys got to stop saying I killed my husband.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Like this has to stop. So anyway, yeah, people take it too far, you know. But RIP to Ken. Not us ever. We take it just far enough. Okay. Well, next up, Bash, producers have sent a cease and desist to Chris Harrison,
Starting point is 00:46:40 former host of The Bachelor, for his new dating show The Vow. Let me raise you the tagline for the show The Vow. The Bachelor, the Women, the Drama. It says The Bachelor in it. Stop. There's also falling rose petals, a man in a suit holding a rose,
Starting point is 00:46:58 and a mansion. And they were like, how could you ever connect these things? How could you? They're never going to know. They're never going to know. Chris, they're going to know. No, you said it's time to put all of this out to pasture. Like, we have got to stop.
Starting point is 00:47:13 Like, if we are not getting Taylor-Frank-Paul's season, The Bachelorette, this franchise has to end. I know we're not even talking about this franchise. We're talking about Chris Harrison's new show. People don't want this. This format, getting married. Like, it's just like people don't care about it anymore. The premise of this on Fox Nation is one 30-year-old bachelor,
Starting point is 00:47:32 10 women elimination-style dating. There's an emphasis on faith, marriage, and long-term commitment. I mean, like, this is so ridiculous. Yes, like, can we just be done with this already? I mean, Fox basically said to The Bachelor, you don't own roses, and we can do roses if we want to do roses. What, the vow said that? The vow. Foxx.
Starting point is 00:47:52 The vow was like, ABC doesn't own roses. We could do whatever we want. But, I mean, it's, you guys couldn't come up with, like, any new concept. You were like, we're just going to do the same concept. Maybe they're not going to notice. We're never going to know. I can't wait to see how this plays out. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:07 So lastly, we just wanted to give an update on the Cornell case. We spoke about at length last week. A lot more has happened. There are more alleged screenshots, phone calls, all just really horrific stuff. But the positive news is that New York Governor Kathy Hockel named Latisha James as the special prosecutor in this Cornell case. So took off the prosecutor who was doing a terrible job and was like, leave this to the women. And that's what I love to see.
Starting point is 00:48:36 We'll take it from here. Guys, we'll take it from here. And let's let's let women prosecute every rape case going forward. That's what I would like to advocate for. And so Leticia James has a long history with going after Trump and his fraud for years. And so obviously he had something to say. He said he felt bad for these Cornell rapists. I mean, who shocked?
Starting point is 00:49:01 I think because of this. I think it was in response to this because that's like one of his. arch nemesis. I'm not defending it. He obviously does feel bad for them like birds of a feather. But he responded to that and he's pissed about that. And so we love to see it. And let's let the women cook on on this one. Yeah, good luck to her. Yeah, we love her. Okay, guys, well, this is your snack. Girls Gotta Eat.com. Girls Gotta eat.com. Girls Got a podcast on Instagram and TikTok.
