Starting point is 00:00:02 Let's fucking go, guys. Guys, I want this one to be the best one ever. It does, but only like 40 people watch it. They just contribute to the chat. We'll check in on that once in a while. And then we can cut anything you want after. Except one time I said that to a guy, and then I didn't cut everything he wanted.
Starting point is 00:00:26 So my track for you, I'll be 100%. No, I've been on podcasts. I've learned to not. Don't trust anybody. No, I just don't. I've learned to like hold things back when I'm like, do I want that? Dude, that's interesting.
Starting point is 00:00:38 because you like I remember listening to your first Marin and it was like very vulnerable and like you guys really got into it because remember like the early Marin episodes were always about like how he had like a rude history with someone and then they would kind of work it out with them and the thing do you feel like I feel like comedians didn't know in that first wave
Starting point is 00:00:56 of podcasting how permanent and pervasive it would become no and I I left his house that day fear of my life I felt like I lived like a month of fear and he even like he even sent me an email I think that night he's like hey good chat um you know like I think people are going to really like this and and I was just so scared and then the day that it came out I had other people listen to it and and then they were like it's pretty good man like it was great it's and then I started getting like I got a text from like Sarah Silverman
Starting point is 00:01:32 I got like other people that were like wow had no idea that your life was like like that and that was so cool to hear and I was like oh okay maybe that was a good thing right you're like a vulnerability hangover I call it yeah because a lot of I also just didn't think about the people that listen to that like Sarah Silverman they want to hear that it's like thoughtful people who want to hear like a deep rich conversation yeah they just it's on their schedule every week to listen to right and what were what were you scared of specifically just that you're so vulnerable or like yeah it got into religion okay and I I just thought, I don't know, just like.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Yeah, because you came out pretty strong. You grew up religious and there was moments in that podcast where you were like kind of. At that time of my life, I didn't know what I was. But I also didn't like being shamed. Yeah, of course. You know, and I think Mark wouldn't do that anymore now. But at that time, I think that was part of the podcast, you know. It felt like I was on my heels, you know, like defending something that I don't even understand.
Starting point is 00:02:36 but I also just wanted the right to defend it without being judged or something. Yeah. Which felt like it was happening. Yeah, that was that kind of moment too. I feel like that was almost like atheism's peak was around that. But I would love it. If we are recording, I would tell a story about some bad, a bad podcast experience that really so bad. It was before comedy bang bang.
Starting point is 00:03:02 It was comedy death rate at the time. Yeah. and I was going on it quite a bit, like, you know, like once a month or something. And I was just running out of things to talk about. And so my neighbor had gone crazy. And it was this whole thing. I recorded, like him having like a manic kind of poked out episode in his backyard, trying to start chainsaw and yelling at the owner of my building.
Starting point is 00:03:30 And he was in his underwear. He was wearing a headlamp. He was singing The Hills Are Alive. It was a real moment and I caught audio of it. And so I played it on comedy death ray and talked about it and just didn't think about repercussions. Didn't think about how many people listened to this podcast. And then one day I came home at like three in the morning.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I think I'd tied one on and I was outside and I heard my voice like out on the street. Oh, wow. And I was like, what? And then I listened. oh my gosh that's me on the podcast and then I looked at his house and his office windows were open and he was just standing there looking at me oh god and the podcast was playing was he in his underwear no no it just right I wish that would have been the best tire and so the next day I went over and knocked on his door and I said hey man uh I'm sorry I'll have that taken down I I don't know I was
Starting point is 00:04:31 just I was running out of material and I needed something and I should have thought like, you know, he was like actually it's pretty funny. Like somebody brought it up to me at a party. I didn't even hear it. Like I, somebody told me they're like, hey, I think someone's talking about you in a podcast. This is how well this guy was known that way. Yeah. Cut to a year later, I'm at UCB and I get off stage and I think the old, I haven't been in the old UCB in a long time, but I think it might be the same way where you like kind of get off and you go back into this hallway that's shared with like birds, the restaurant. It's really, no one's there guarding the door.
Starting point is 00:05:06 No one's saying like, hey, are you part of the show? Like people, and there's just some guy back there. And I'm like, he's like, are you Nick Thune? And what I heard because I just walked off stage, I heard, hey, man, great set. That's those are the words I heard. But he asked me if I was Nick Thune and I said, yes. And then he handed me an envelope and he said, you've been served. And I was like, and then he just like busted out.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And I was like, what? And I looked it up. And it's, this guy next door is going through a divorce. And his wife was trying to get the recording. Oh, wow. From the podcast to, like, use in court. Prove what a crazy duty was. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:44 And also, he was a nice guy. Like, it just was like a moment, you know? Yeah. She was out of town. Like, it was just all, like, all this stuff. And anyway, I just talked to her and I said, I'm not going to be a good witness. And then I called Scott. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:06:00 Like delete it. And if anyone asks, you don't have it. And I just got out of being a witness. Wow. Wow. But it really showed me what you can and can't talk about. Yeah. Damn.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And when you got served, did you immediately know what it was for? I had no idea. How scary was that opening the envelope? I don't think I was scared. I think I was so confused. And I don't, and beyond that, There was nothing in my life that would have gotten me, unless somebody was, like, suing me for a joke or something.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Yeah, crushing too hard for having too good of hair. I mean, that could have been it. It could have been, like, an old hair stylist that was, yeah, trying to get me into court for going to someone new. That was a joke I used to have that I never, it never worked, but I always thought was funny that I drive around with a wig in my car in case I run into any old hairstylist. It is, I just went into Floyd's and I just go random, like whoever,
Starting point is 00:07:00 they suggest should cut my hair I go with and I saw the lady who normally cuts my hair and we made eye contact and it was like seeing an X or something with somebody else or that weird tension. Yeah, do you think, I wonder if it caused any turmoil between the staff there. Yeah, do they beef? I've always been bad
Starting point is 00:07:16 about that stuff. Like I one time switched trainers at the same gym. But I'm kind of like, guys, we're all going to be professionals about this. Yeah, hey, you did great. Like, my pecs are looking good. But now I'm switching my program. Exactly. I want to to get in the kettlebells. I was like this guy's specialty. I remember
Starting point is 00:07:33 at his old apartment, we were recording a podcast and I was leaving. This guy comes out to me, he's like, hey man, you've been served. And I'm like... And he'd start dancing? Well, it was for... Yeah, dude. Yeah, it was a Marion. I was like, too. Actually, I meant to say you're about to get served. Yeah, yeah, you're about to get
Starting point is 00:07:50 served. He just... He just popped. I was like, thank you. And I went to Airwant. Um... But he's like, this is for the apartment below you. And he's like, you just came from there. Too much bone. I'm like, I'm like, I didn't come from that apartment.
Starting point is 00:08:04 He's like, I saw you come from the building. Like, you're served. I'm like, I don't live here. And he's like, no, he's like, I got to serve you, man. I'm like, dude, I don't live here. The guy, I don't know who's below there. He's like, what do I do? I'm like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:19 You just can't serve me. You don't think about that bad servers, guys who. He was a bad server. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you don't think about bad servers. You don't think about bad notary, you know,
Starting point is 00:08:28 Publix. Right. Those guys are, a friend of mine just sent me a pitch. They're like, I want to shoot a short film with you. It was playing this guy that just came over to like a notary public that. And it's funny because of my old Twitter bio said I was a notary public. And it was just the amount of messages I would get from people that were like, that's so cool you do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Yeah. Yeah. And so I just decided like, yeah, it is fun. It's fun. It's a great asset. But yeah, a bad serve. It was a bad serve. Man, it's like McEnroe.
Starting point is 00:09:00 He was really good after it. Yeah, dude. You tennis guy? No, I had a dig pretty deep find that one. I was wondering. I was like, was McEnroe a serving? I couldn't remember. I mean, I know that he was heated.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, he was hot. Yeah. You gotta be kidding me. I like that. I like that he had an edge to. Those are some of the best clips. Oh, him yelling at people is great. I mean, it doesn't happen enough.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Not anymore. Serena will give a little bit of like some pushback. She's like, I'm going to shove this ball in your mouth. She said that to someone. You did?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah. And it wasn't a dog. Then it gets like, hers get all crazy because she's black, so it'll get gnarly in the comments. And then you're like, this is, it always gets racial.
Starting point is 00:09:41 Yeah. McEnroe, when it was him and Borg, it was just like, right, this guy's ice, this guy's fire. That was kind of a fun. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yeah. Those are, those are wild. The competition is just insane. Yeah. Do you guys feel like that with any other podcast? Like, like, who?
Starting point is 00:09:58 Who would be like your Borg, like you guys are Mac andro? Rogan, dude. I got to take him down. And I know he feels the same way about us. Yeah. He's Borg, we're Maconroe. Yeah. We'll DM him sometimes.
Starting point is 00:10:09 We like, dude, dude, you're covering vaccines. We were like on that, like a month before. Yeah. The title's mine. Yeah. And you're like, yeah, this like deer meat you're talking about. Yeah. We're off that now.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Yeah. Yeah. It's not good for you. That's like so 10 years ago. Yeah, that's not the protein we're looking for. Yeah. I got Bonji disease. You shouldn't be eating deer.
Starting point is 00:10:31 I made up Bonji. Did that sound like a real disease? Yeah. All right. Good. I thought I was like I was going to go to deer ticks, but I. That's smarter. I couldn't think of that.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Yeah. Well, I think if you can't think of something, but you say something confidently. That's almost better. Yeah. Oh, let's go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I like that value system. People walk away from it. Dude, I was, I'm a big fan of years. I go way back with it too. Like the first time, me and my buddy Strider,
Starting point is 00:10:57 we lived in Orange County. we drove up here. You were doing a set at the improv. It was a stacked lineup, too. It was like you, Tosh, Louis. And it's the first time I'd seen you and you did your joke. I did this to Todd Barry, too.
Starting point is 00:11:09 I'm a big fan of I will repeat jokes to people. I bet Todd handled it really well. He hated it. But honestly, I cherish that episode. It means a lot to me. It's fun to rub Todd the wrong way. Yeah, he's so good at it at being kind of put upon.
Starting point is 00:11:24 And I'm a huge fan of his. Like, medium energy was a really big deal to me. Yeah, I'm a big Todd Barry. I think he's one of the best I could watch him over and over. You know what? I'm actually not going to do the bit to you, but you had some great bits. I'm going to learn from my past experience, take this moment. So what would you title the bit?
Starting point is 00:11:41 Porter Roy? Oh, yeah. Yeah, that was a good one. It was good. Yeah. But I've seen you in so much stuff. Like, dude, that show you did Laft Track, that was great with Mosher. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:11:57 motion I talked about that recently actually because yeah it was really fun when you did stand up in front of the dodgeball guys it was hilarious and your energy whatever happened to that I don't know I forget where I even watched it I think it was like it was online right yeah and it was so we were so concerned about doing our own material that we just were like hey so we're gonna not do our own jokes we got to write jokes every day and that became the show yeah but you wrote good jokes and we did a bit where we we went around in like a Hollywood tour bus and um i like on the roof of a tour bus did you see that do you remember that episode i don't know if i do it was like it was like one of those double deckers that you're like driving around and uh there's a guy like telling you like oh maryl monroe was over here or whatever and i did and i was doing it but i turned it into all like i'm actually it turns out in the end i'm stalking my ex-girlfriend like that like she there she there she is you know kind of a thing and it was such a good bit and then i I saw like, I've seen like five or six people do it since. Dude, we had a tour bus bit in our show, but I didn't remember that.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I hope. Yeah. It's like, it's an obvious thing. We took everyone to Fast and Furious sites. Oh, that's great. And they thought they were going to see classic Hollywood. It was really fun. It was fun.
Starting point is 00:13:10 I know that place not too far from here on like Douglas or something. Yeah. And then in the middle we get canceled. Oh, the Tureto? Yeah. Oh, Toreto's a grocery. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Yeah, we went there. That's a hot spot. We did some kind of like Off the Beaten Path ones Where like this is in Fast and Furious The fourth one Where um He confronts
Starting point is 00:13:31 I forget his name like Daniel who owned an engine that like New Venn And it was just an apartment building We're like the apartment I think you guys will be You guys will like this And I think that this is also like a fun thing for people to do
Starting point is 00:13:44 I was when I was locked I was locked in a house in Vancouver for two weeks I was going up to shoot a movie and it was when the pandemic was just in full bore and you had to like go, quarantine for two weeks, then you can like get out. And I was in a five-bedroom house in like the suburb of Vancouver.
Starting point is 00:14:01 It was wild. I mean, it was dark at times. It was weird. But I committed to watching all of the Fast and the Furious backwards. Oh, wow. And it's fun because you'll be like, Christopher Nolan style.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Yeah, you'll be like in the third season, I'm going to say, but it's the third movie. And you're like, oh, they're cousins. Yeah. That explains so much what happened the other episodes. You know,
Starting point is 00:14:25 and you just kind of keep going through until the end and you're like, wow. That's how it all started, huh? And it all connected, huh? Yeah. Wow. I almost think it might be a better way to watch it.
Starting point is 00:14:36 It is cool. It's like Cubist or something. Like there's more meaning and doing it out of order. Which one's your favorite? I mean, I got to be honest, what's the one that's not even,
Starting point is 00:14:46 it's not even a fast and a furious one I think. Tokyo drift. Yeah. That one's sick. You're always kind of, I'm not a fan You don't think it's canon I don't think it's canon
Starting point is 00:14:56 Paul's not in there Yeah but what about the one That's more like Toreto And Oh The brother one And the rock Oh that's fast five
Starting point is 00:15:08 Yeah That one's great That's when they really Up did it It became like an Ocean's 11 kind of style Yeah Yeah They're like we're going international
Starting point is 00:15:15 We're going heist What are you guys What's your I mean I'm an OG guy Number one And you know what It's not even like Just because
Starting point is 00:15:23 it's the first one is I love I love when you capture especially like 90s, early 2000s LA gritty urban LA that's my favorite thing to see in movies so they captured that really well and I mean just the dialogue is
Starting point is 00:15:38 I mean that that and the second one the dialogue is by far the best yeah Eric Bernquist did a great job yeah and then like so did Gary Scott Thompson see I think maybe if I would have watched it
Starting point is 00:15:49 if I would have watched it in the right order I might be in the same page with you guys. Right. Right. Yeah. I was kind of starving for something good by the time I got to five. When did you first see the first one?
Starting point is 00:16:01 I did see the, you're right. I saw the first one before I did this backwards. So I don't remember. Okay. It wasn't several for you. Yeah, probably. Yeah. That was a huge experience for me.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Seeing in theaters, we got Carl's Jr. After I think I was beyond the age where that could have worked for me. You know, I think it was like, oh, this is an exciting movie, but like movies. that affected me deeply that I saw in the theater were like Ace Ventura. Right. I just rewatch that with my kids. Mm-hmm. I mean, just...
Starting point is 00:16:30 Did they like it? They didn't love it, but Jim Carrey, it's just like a clear-out for him. Dun & Dumb is good for kids. Yeah, that probably worked better. But watching Ace Ventura, like, dude, they're basically like... The movie wouldn't work at all with anybody else, right? No. No.
Starting point is 00:16:43 No. And that, that formula is... Gone. It's like having one comedic star surrounded by actors. Not like the barista is another comedic star. Right. And this one scene, this other dude on SNL is like trying to score as a paper boy or whatever.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Like it's just there's too much. There's too many comedians in movies out because then you don't have one comedic voice. It's they're all. It's coming from all different directions. And it's and it is nice. Like, like, and I know that they have more than just Will Forte, but, um, uh, the, The McGruber movie. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:24 It's so good, but it's because they do, they have mostly actors. Yeah. And it's like him and Kristen Wig and like it's. But then it's Ryan Philippe, it's Val Kilmer. Yes, it's straight. Yeah. Dude, that's a good shout. Man, that one, the moment where he's, where the van blows up.
Starting point is 00:17:41 No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. So you do kids, just, they didn't agree with Jim Carrey's choices? They wanted more animals. And I was like, this movie has animals. And you did what nature calls. I did number one. And then every time the animals left, they were like, where'd the animals? Right.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Okay. Yeah. And so I thought, I thought, you kind of forget what movies are even, like, you forget so much about movies. And then you show them back to your kids. You're like, holy fuck. I didn't remember this movie started with like all the parents dying. And then him getting a blow job and like that. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:18:15 He's like, you know. Yeah, he comes back in his shit. I forgot about that. Yeah. A lot of that stuff. You didn't know that was a blowjob. Yeah. What did she do down there?
Starting point is 00:18:25 Well, you know what? That's true too. Yeah. I forgot all that. Like I'm like, no, there's no cursing or sex in this movie that's like, Rof, I'll watch old comedy. He's common old,
Starting point is 00:18:32 but, you know, like 2000s, comedies on like when I'm flying. And he just, nowadays, when you watch those movies, I feel like, I'll watch like legally blonde.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Every joke just works so well. Yeah. Now it just, like, I don't know what it is with the writing, but it just feels like the, they're trying to, too hard and with this it's just like there's so every detail just works so well like her parents
Starting point is 00:18:58 like uh just everything about it and uh i feel like that i don't know why that seems to be gone from comedy movies now yeah they really i mean and again reese witherspoon like we don't look at her as a comedic actress right no you know like she's an actress yeah she really played that role well but in the in the ace ventura thing that was like him doing one of his you know, in living color characters pretty much. Yeah. Yeah. Like he came with the bits ready. Oh yeah. That was like, they were just like put the camera on this guy and
Starting point is 00:19:27 give him like a loose script and let's see what happens. Do you know what else you were amazing in? Love Life? You were incredible in that show. Oh, thank you. That is such a good show. Yeah, it's such a bummer that it was just a season and then moved on to a new... That they went like anthology with it?
Starting point is 00:19:43 Yeah, I mean, it was fine. I mean, it was fine. It didn't last past a second season. I don't think. I think COVID kind of boned it a little bit. Yeah, COVID did actually. That has been a gripe I've had with COVID. Yeah, fuck. Because it came out. Well, a lot of people saw it as a thing because of COVID.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Right. But also, there were no jobs to get after it because of COVID. Right. You know, like, it was like that thing where you're like, oh yeah, you just scored in three episodes of an HBO show. Yeah. But there's nothing else filming right now. So we're all going to forget about that.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Yeah. You layered the fuck out of that performance, too. Because like I love that. Oh, God, I hate that photo of me. Really? That's like me at my worst drunk, like swollen face. What do you? Considering that's how you feel about it, I think you still look handsome in the photo.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Thank you. Yeah. Have you always been, you're a fashionable guy. I'm trying to up my fashion. I'm not really doing it now, but my fiance's into styling. I'm trying to like, have you always had, is that, were you just born with it or have you cultivated your style? You know, I looked at my senior picture and I'm wearing a denim shirt with a tie.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Interesting to show you where I've come from. Yeah. Which I think is, I mean, in the 90s, I graduated. It was 98, you know, like kind of, it was so against what anyone else was doing. So I don't know if I had bad fashion or I just had an idea of what I liked beyond what other people were wearing. Yeah. Because I was really like, my senior year I was wearing Hawaii. Hawaiian shirts and deck shoes.
Starting point is 00:21:20 And no one at my school. It was just a, here comes Nick. Like it was so against anything. Right. What were you basing the look off of? Did you have, like... My dad had, my dad always wore deck shoes, and I love my dad. And I just thought I want to wear deck shoes like him.
Starting point is 00:21:34 That's sweet. And then the Hawaiian shirts, I just thought, I'm on to something here that nobody, you know, like... It gives you some flare. It gives you, like, some attitude. And at that point, it was a not a Hawaiian shirt era. Yeah. Did people give you shit? Yeah, I got made fun of a lot.
Starting point is 00:21:51 But I think also... But you own that pretty easily. Yeah, this was a good lesson I learned. I learned it later in life that people, because they were still friends with me, you know? And a lot of times, and maybe this is like a therapist putting bad information into my head. But he was like,
Starting point is 00:22:09 do you ever wonder why they felt so comfortable like making you the butt of the joke? Because they knew you could handle it. Yeah. It's that thing. It's like that it was fun. You made it fun. You didn't like run.
Starting point is 00:22:21 You didn't get emotional about it. What if you're picking on some like we, the guy we make fun of the most in my friend group is like the most handsome and kind of the coolest. Cause it's like it doesn't feel like there's as much of a psychic cost to it. Like we're like, yeah, it'll be all right, dude. And I wasn't that guy.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I was like very lanky and, um, I wasn't as like. I didn't make to project that on to you. No, no, no. But I,
Starting point is 00:22:42 but I, at the time though, I was like definitely not, all my friends were like the studs. I grew up in a neighborhood where all of the guys within rocks throwing distance from my house were athlete of the year, went on to play college baseball, went on to play college football, like all of those guys were the top and I was just this kind of kid in the middle that was like I played sports up to ninth grade.
Starting point is 00:23:07 I didn't do it. I didn't even try in high school. I was good. But compared to them, I was like B. Right. Maybe if you were in a more podunk. town you could have been like you know second best guy on varsity but the competition was so steeper like i got to find a new lane yeah i probably would have still still probably not been on varsity but i i did
Starting point is 00:23:25 play a year of football third best guy on jv yeah yeah in high school you did yeah in my in ninth grade i was actually on uh jvb oh nice basketball jvb basketball and my mom i wanted jordan's and she got me the um shekeel o'neals oh i don't know if you guys have seen those let's i would love I vaguely remember. They were black, like, swayed with, like, purple. The first, I think they were, like, the first ones. Right there? But they were cheap.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Those ones. The ones that you just are, the other big ones. The one below that. Yeah. They look like moon boots because I had my legs where, like, toothpicks. And I had size 12 feet. And it was like, and I had to wear those on the court. And it was.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Dude, I thought, when I was a kid, I thought I could. ball. I was like, I can dribble and I didn't grow. And yeah, same thing when I got to high school. I was like, I'll just, I'll just get hammered. Yeah. Like, I'll just party and I'll be, I'll be, I'll be that guy. That is, I found out about that. I found out you could be cool. Yeah. And that being cool. Yeah, being cool. Because I, like, I went to school where it's like, like, we had like kids, you know, college, feature college hockey players, lacrosse players. And, and then I, and you, you've, yeah, gotten kids from like China and stuff who are like the top basketball player from China
Starting point is 00:24:48 and I'm like fuck so I'm like that I can chug yeah I'll just chug and that'll be my thing did you get your driver's license early now 16 I mean yeah but like yeah that yeah that I consider that early because now kids aren't getting it until they're like right because they got Uber or Waymo or whatever and even my athlete friends didn't get it as quickly as I got it yeah because they had buddy they already had upper class
Starting point is 00:25:13 and give it lifts right They were just busy. I was working too much to get my license. Yeah. And I mean, I popped off with mine and got a Jetta pretty quickly because I had a job at the grocery store and it was like... I mean, the freedom when you got your driver's license, like that first day when you just like you just whip out of the parking lot.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Yeah, yeah. You're going way too fast. You should not be on the road, honestly. Yeah. And then if you can get a chick in the car, give Holly Cento a ride home. And you could back then. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:39 It was legal to have anyone in your car. Now you can't have like... anybody under 25 in your car? Is that true? Yeah. For like a whole year. Wow. Wow.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Are they following the law on that? I mean, the kids that I've been around that are old enough, no. They're not. Yeah, there's no way. Dude, I heard about this this weekend. Oh, sorry, I thought you were actually asking how they're hooking up. I mean, yeah, because in my thing is I'd get a girl in the car and we'd play ska. Yeah?
Starting point is 00:26:09 I do that still happening. But it's a lot of, I heard it's a lot of two in the front. seat, two in the back seat. That sounds like a two in the front. Yeah. Yeah. I was rocking three. But it's a lot of group stuff.
Starting point is 00:26:22 But I think it's always been that one. But the parents are worried about it. It's group stuff. Like orgies? Not like not inter, not cross-pollinating, but like you hook up over there. We hook up over here. Like hand jobs in the front and back. Yes.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Exactly. Yeah. I don't know why I'm smiling, but I'm just happy for these kids. I mean, it sounds fun. Just get after. Yeah. Live your life. Be safe.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Be gentle, listen, but good for you guys. Yeah, yeah. Have fun. You guys are doing the right thing. Yeah, I remember. You're working with what you can. I mean, there is no wrong thing, right? You're not a good person because you do, but you're not a bad person either, right?
Starting point is 00:26:56 It's just, I've lost my binding moral matrix right now. Can you guys redirect me towards a safe landing? Because I'm not even going to say anything bad, but now I'm nervous. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I could go. Then you start spinning out. I kind of liked where you're going. You do, thank you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:11 Well, because that's the other argument, right? is that young people have become too risk averse. Right, right, yeah. It's like the antisocial generation. Yeah, yeah. They don't drink anymore. They're smoking pot. They're more isolated.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Pornography has made them burrow into their own insecurities. So, yeah, maybe that's why I liked it too, because I was like, all right, there's still a little, like, adventure going on. We should start a campaign, like, like, for kids to kind of get back into, you know, how we grew up. Like, get a girl in your car, play pepper. You know, what I did is I wanted to be a stoner, but I hated weed, so I got to grow on my car. played Pepper, Hot Boxed it, freaked out. He left. That's a good moment.
Starting point is 00:27:49 I like that experience. Yeah. I did that's pretty cool. Those moments are, I had a girl in, I was 24, but I was in France and like Nice France. I was traveling. I was like working at hostels. You know, you get a job at a train station. Like you got to go for three hours and pass out flyers and people get off and they let me stay for
Starting point is 00:28:08 free every night for that. And one day I was with this Australian. guy and we were walking and these two girls like pulled up and pulled up in front of us they like honked at us and then they got up to them and we're like hey what's up and they were French and they were like oh we thought you guys were Italian like and then it turns out we were like the two worst versions of guys they could you know American and Australia yeah and so they were like oh but you guys can meet us tonight if you want and we're going to be at this place and so we ended up going to this place and they were not they ended up liking the Australian guy and just not into
Starting point is 00:28:42 to me. Americans were very much hated at the time, I think. This is right when Iraq was going on and stuff. Yeah, like Bush and everything was kind of, it was, yeah, 2000. It was tough sledding over there. It was 2004. And so we were in this place and these guys started handing out these flyers. And we look on them and it's not a flyer.
Starting point is 00:29:00 It's to sign up for a rockeroki, which downstairs, there's a band that plays. Like you could sign up three songs and the band most likely knew one of them. And then they would play it and you sang with them. It was like a live band karaoke situation. And so I signed up with, I just put two of my classics on there. I put Hero Enrique Iglesias. Great song. And then I put every rose has its thorn, poison.
Starting point is 00:29:24 Beautiful. Ballads. Yeah. And they knew poison. They knew every rose has its thorn. And I had been in a cover band at the time in Seattle and had a real good version of it going. And I just nailed it. Nailed it so hard to one of the French girls, like, you want to get out of here?
Starting point is 00:29:41 Dude. And so I was like, yeah, I want to get out of here. And so we go down and we hit this beach. The beaches in Nice France are rock, like stone beaches. And I'm nervous. I had never been with a European woman. I didn't know what was going to happen. It's like too good to be true.
Starting point is 00:29:59 It didn't feel real. And so I'm thinking you got to really, you got to be good, right? Yeah, do your job. And so we're making out. She's on top of me. And I think, all right, I'm going to flip the switch on this and be like, you know, like I really want to make this happen.
Starting point is 00:30:14 But again, the beach is not sand. It's stone. And so I like roll her over and basically like rolled her on to a stone that was not, it was not a like not a good situation. That's a medge to it. Yeah. And it just ended everything. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:30:28 But there wasn't like a, she didn't get like hurt or anything, right? She was just too uncomfortable. She's like, yeah. It wasn't like a wound. But yeah, it did hurt. It hurt. Yeah. And it was a, it wasn't my fault.
Starting point is 00:30:41 It was, you know, if it was a sand beach, everything would have been fine. Right, yeah. I think it's better the way it went. Yeah. Do I really feel that way? I don't know, but it's still a great experience, right? But one of the funnest things that happened on that trip that I think about all the time is, I was down on that beach and there was a guy walking around with a cooler tied, a rope tied to it. And it was the beach, you know, they were like mostly smooth pebbles.
Starting point is 00:31:06 That's what got me. It's like, it's like, how could I go wrong? And then the one. But this guy's walking around and he's singing. this song, Coca-Cola, Aquafesca, and he's singing all of the drinks that he has in his cooler. And then every now and again, he would just say, massage. Like every five run-throughs, you know? And I remember I was there for a week or two weeks, and I remember thinking, like, this guy's throwing a massage. He's there every day, until one day,
Starting point is 00:31:33 there's these two girls that are like five feet from me, topless, sunbathing. And Coca-Cola, Aquat fresca, massage. And one of the girls is like, two massages. And the guy just acted super cool about it. He's like, all right. So they are on their backs now, or on their stomachs. And he is kneeling between them. And he lubs up both of his hands and their backs.
Starting point is 00:31:58 And he starts going two at a time. Like he's, and he looks over it. And he looks over it. And he goes, like it finally works. He's been saying massage for years. He's just like, I don't know how finally, you know. Legend, dude.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Because I was expecting him to be like a master me. He's like, dude. I actually, I actually know. He's not. That's good for him. Yeah, I kind of gave him one of those. Wait, so were you doing music before comedy?
Starting point is 00:32:38 I was, but it wasn't. I wasn't, I wouldn't call it. I wasn't doing music. I was like entertaining people and playing with a band that was like doing shows at clubs. And we were doing cover songs like push it by salt and pepper. But then also like hero. But I would like one of like the big moments of the show for me at least. But I think comedically wise was me doing a very passionate version of hero.
Starting point is 00:33:04 I'd love to hear that. Which is still one of my top karaoke songs. Yeah. Can we hear a little bit or is that putting it on the spot too much? No, because there's a moment of it where he goes, Would you dance? If I asked you to dance. And right away, people are like, oh, he's doing it.
Starting point is 00:33:20 He's not doing like a... You're not winking at it. You're going for it. He's performing it. Yeah. Would you run? Would you hold me back? I can't remember. I got to see the words a little bit. And would you cry for the one you loved. Hold me in your arms tonight.
Starting point is 00:33:38 And then it drops in it. I can be. And it hits so big. The swell is monstrous. Yeah. And I would even throw some Spanish words in. Nice. Just to respect for Enrique and everybody.
Starting point is 00:33:51 That music video is one of the best music videos I've ever made. It's been running in my head since we talked. Jennifer Love Hewitt. When they're rubbing the stolen money on each other and then Mickey Rourke is the heavy. Dude, I mean, the cast in that is insane. It could be a real movie. Is it a gas station? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:05 And I don't even know what happens at the end. Do they kill Enrique? It feels like it. It's like an epic standoff and you're like, all right, he's going to die for her. but it was like it was MTV so I didn't I don't think they they probably didn't let the director take I bet you there's a director's cut can we find out what the budget was for that movie that music video Enrique Iglesis hero budget I'm guessing 2.5 mil oh but I hear where you're going like the music videos they used to be like yeah it was a short film yeah it was beautiful it was really cool to watch Enrique always seemed to have the right amount of like moisture on his skin yeah like a sexy sweat going you know I feel like that's very like I I mean, Britney Spears, I'm a slave for you. It's like the right amount of sweat. Yeah, he hit at the right time.
Starting point is 00:34:52 I think Ricky Martin had been out and people are like, this is cool. The Latin way was hit. Oh, this is cool. Yeah. He's a very handsome guy. Yeah, he was. His mole's fantastic. And you're right, the right amount of sweat, like, really, like.
Starting point is 00:35:05 It's important. I watched Heller High Water this weekend. Like, whatever they did to Chris Pine in that, like the sheen he has going, that's like, oh, God, that's seen at the gas station. Yeah. Those two dudes are like, when he comes out and just, you know, wax that guy. But his performance is like 60% just like, God, this guy's like, he's really humid. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:25 I'm rewatching Walking Dead. They put on, I mean, I think they do it on purpose, too much sweat. Oh. Because they're in Atlanta. And it adds to the effect. We're like, that's, only are there zombies, but there's all that moisture. Sweaty zombies? Sweaty zombies, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Yeah, the putting on. sweat when you're getting sprayed and you're like, is this going to read? Yeah. A lot of faith. A lot of faith in a lot of departments. They had the wrong setting on the spray thing. So it was like just a fucking missile into your space. I don't know if that's going to work.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Yeah. That music video. But that that era of my life was a fun. I love that. You like being a bad. Well, yeah, because you're from Seattle. too, right? So it's like a huge musical legacy. But then in my head, I was kind of tracking, I was like,
Starting point is 00:36:19 it would kind of make sense to go into comedy at that point. And for Seattle to have a good comedy run, because it's like the music thing had already kind of peaked. And then people are like, well, what's the next wave of expression out of here? And there was never really a big, big scene. There's obviously some great comedians that come out of there. Because it's like you, Funches, Aunt Carmont, all you guys are from Seattle, right?
Starting point is 00:36:39 No, they're from Portland. Damn it. They're from Oregon. But there's a great scene that came out of Portland, too. Portland had a festival for a while that I think really kind of turned that city into Seattle never had the right I don't know the right start or something it just never had the right club with the right owner that was supporting local comedians and like was the crocodile running back then the crocodile yeah and it's still going but it not not comedy wise
Starting point is 00:37:05 you weren't doing and even now like there's laughs like the guy that owns laughs and kirkland is really great I think Dave is his name like him his wife they're like They're really supportive and great. I think they're not actually in Kirkland anymore. They're downtown. But at the time, there was like the underground and it was just not the best scene. Yeah. I wasn't even ready to do those clubs anyway.
Starting point is 00:37:26 I was doing open mics. Right. Are you following the Seattle issue right now that's kind of captured my imagination? They did work to help the salmon get to the ocean, but it created some bottlenecks throughout, like, their ports and whatnot. And their harbors and channels. And now the walruses and seals have gotten hip to it. And they all wait at the mouth where it goes into the ocean.
Starting point is 00:37:50 And they're just eating all the salmon. And now they've spent like a billion dollars trying to create this system. The salmon might get depopulated. So now they have to start killing the walrises and seals, but nobody wants to do it. Yeah. So it's like, what do you do? And some fishermen are taken into their own hands. And they're often the seals and walruses.
Starting point is 00:38:11 Because they're like, yeah, dude, like this is our whole livelihood. and like the salmon are going to go extinct if we don't do something. Wow. And there's that many seals and walruses that have found out? They're just like, yeah, they're like one of them had a TikTok that hit. Dude, meet me at 37th Harbor. This is how like cool vintage stories get ruined. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:31 I told you not to bring anybody, dude. Who are these guys? You can tell everyone this is our spot. You told the seals? No, you stupid fuck, man. They're going to get us. They're going to tell the walruses. We know that.
Starting point is 00:38:41 We're cooked, dude. Yeah, I mean, and seals and they're so adorable. I couldn't do it. So predators often gather in high numbers at artificial structures such as dams and ballard locks were migrating the salmon become easy tar. I was going to say the locks. I lived right by the locks. I lived on the ocean side of the locks and like a place on stilts basically.
Starting point is 00:39:03 That was amazing. That sounds awesome. It was a great time. That area, yeah, I mean, they had the salmon run at the locks already, which is you can go down and look and you can see the fish kind of swimming. coming from, you know, because they're coming from the river and doing their migration. They're going out in the ocean. Yeah, it's a, it's a pretty amazing thing.
Starting point is 00:39:21 But yeah, it's like, so they messed with nature and now they've got to mess with more nature. Yes. Just to fix the first kind of thing that they did. It's the clodocracy. It's just layers and layers of bureaucracy and different levers that we put into stuff. And then, and they were doing more patches to fix it. And it just gets more and more. That'd be great if they got seal.
Starting point is 00:39:42 up into Seattle, the singer? Yeah, just, I mean, that wouldn't be a bad publicity son for the Seals, I think. Yeah. Oh, to defend them? Yeah. Yeah. He could use it too. Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Is he going through a tough time? You know, I don't even know why I said that. I guess I just watched a video about him and Heidi Klum. Are they not together? They broke up. And so for me, it's raw. For me, it's sensitive. But for most of the world, I don't think they're that investing.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Seal probably knew that was going to happen like a couple years ago. Yeah. I bet we found out delayed, so he's probably good by now. Are you doing it? I'm good. Hey, man. Listen, we broke up 10 years ago. It's just been, we've been on post.
Starting point is 00:40:24 So the salmon thing, why did they do in the first place? I think they were having trouble getting out to the water. I forget what the origination of it was. But they're trying to help the salmon. But it was good intentions. They helped them too much. Yeah. And I think also the salmon might have been having trouble because of like human obstruction
Starting point is 00:40:40 in the first place. Okay. Like they're like, hey, we built this big ass. harbor okay now the salmon are having trouble getting out okay so what if we built up there's different path for them oh now now it's bottlenecking and now like they yeah they called a buffet a salmon and seals are just the seals are just sitting there like well a buffet isn't just one food that's true they went to a buffet that was just carrots it's like Barney Greengrass there's
Starting point is 00:41:05 just so much good salmon there's got to be some seaweed around I guess yeah they're mixing it up with it someone brings something they got worms hanging out Yeah, yeah. I brought some dill. I got some tartar sauce. They were just throwing worms in the water. Yeah. Man, that's a really tough.
Starting point is 00:41:19 That's a pickle because... It is tough. There's no good ending, right? Yeah, it's too bad that seals are so cute. I know. And they are... If you talk about the right amount of moist, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:41:32 When you see a seal out of the water? Perfect. Oh, my God. Is there a picture with Chris Pine and a seal? I bet there is. I would love... Or at least we could see Chris Pine sweat it up next to a seal and see what kind of moisture. You know, seals are kind of the dogs of the ocean, I'd say.
Starting point is 00:41:51 Yeah, I think people do consider them that. Yeah, the face, they've, they've, they've, uh... They're cute. They, it's evolved to where they look at you and you're like, I can't do anything to you. Probably helped them. They're like, if we get a little bit anthropomorphic, they might not do anything to us. We can eat at their buffet all day and there'll be no repercussions. Oh.
Starting point is 00:42:09 I mean, look at that silhouette, too. That almost doesn't even look like a real seal. That's the problem is I would talk to the makeup department there and be like, listen, at this point you guys did so good, it looks like a statue. Yeah. We've got to take a little moisture off that seal. Yeah. Like pinnipeds? Is that what kind of animal they are?
Starting point is 00:42:27 Is it a manatee a pinniped? Because I was going to say, manatees are weird. Like, I almost look at them as like alien. And if there are any manatees watching this, we don't all feel that way. Dude, I got attacked by a seal In Santa Cruz How? I jumped
Starting point is 00:42:45 So there's this place pleasure point I jumped in the water With my board And I'm paddling Is this a euphemism With a woman? No I wish
Starting point is 00:42:55 I wish I got attacked by the real Seale You know pleasure point Yeah Yeah yeah yeah I was playing scah And just
Starting point is 00:43:05 Hapton So I hopped in and it was like mid to high tide so I and I was paddling it felt like I hit a rock and I was like that's weird so I keep paddling feel like here feel a bump against the board again it feels like I hit another rock so I'm like what the hell so I turned the board over and the seal just just like ah ah like come to attacking at me he just lunged at me and I fell off my board I was like ah ha and it it bit like a shark-sized bite out of my board whoa It was pretty sick. And I didn't realize they were so fierce. And took it back to my college. And I was like, shark.
Starting point is 00:43:47 And I played ska. That's pretty cool, though. Did you save the board? I saved the board, yeah, yeah. I kept it in my room. So, you know, after a party, and be like. How big was its mouth? It was big.
Starting point is 00:43:57 It was like that, like. Yeah. Kill the lady in Dana Point. She was swimming with the seals in a wetsuit. Yeah. Like pretending to be a seal, but they like bite the slowest swimmer. Yeah. And they came back.
Starting point is 00:44:07 bitter and she ended up not making it out of the water. They've sharp teeth. They're not. You died? Yeah. Has there been any other confirmed seal murders? They don't want you to know about them. You can't even find them in the news because the pro seal lobby is so powerful. I'm joking. Yeah. No. And that's actually the artist's
Starting point is 00:44:23 seal and he's like working for the wrong seals. Yeah. Do you prefer acting or being on stage? Being on stage. Yeah. I prefer like I would like I kind of want to have like a talk show. You'd be great at that. Yeah. It'd be fun.
Starting point is 00:44:39 Yeah. But who'd you want to interview, like, actors and stuff? I don't know. I mean, I, no. No, I don't want to at all. I would like to interview regular people, but then it's just a podcast. But, you know, like I, I've also, like wanted to have, like, because I did a talk show at UCB for a couple of years that was scripted. And people like Bob Odenkirk would come on and he would play like the, you know, like the air of the Scantron family.
Starting point is 00:45:07 and my dad worked my dad I'm from the number three pencil family and we kind of got obviously number two pencils kind of got in with Scantron right and so we're like our whole interview was me actually accusing him of like taking my family's livelihood
Starting point is 00:45:23 by signing some dumb deal it's number two pencils number three it was like and I loved that it was so fun but at the time there was a comedy
Starting point is 00:45:36 bang bang show and I think Eric Andres was just starting and it was like there's a lot of talk shows happening and I just kind of missed that. Right. That boat. They were first to mark it on it. It was like there was already the.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Yeah. Or it was like happening. It was all happening at the same time. Yeah. I think they got to be coming back, right? Here, I think they are. Like a lot of the podcasts that I listen to are now turning into game shows.
Starting point is 00:45:59 For example. Oh, yeah. Like bad friends is now like they got a bad friends game show. Oh, yeah. I saw that. Santino and Bobby Lee. Yeah. And I feel like since late night died, people started doing like a lot of podcasts.
Starting point is 00:46:11 And now I feel like it's kind of swinging back the other way. So maybe we need to start a game show. Yeah. Are you a game show guy? No. That's okay too. I don't know. I don't watch them at all, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Yeah. You know, I did when I was young because when I was growing up, like, I graduated high school in 06. It was like maybe when I was in junior high is like when who wants to be a millionaire and all that stuff came out. That was huge. Yeah. Like Regis doing that. the 50-50s? Yeah, I'm listening to Bob Eager's book again.
Starting point is 00:46:39 They're talking about... Ride of a Lifetime? Yeah, I remember that... I love that book. Yeah, that, like, 2001... He's changed. He has changed. This is 2019, Bob Beggar.
Starting point is 00:46:49 He was cooking. Yeah, he was on top. But, yeah, that year where it was like 30 million... I'm just listening to now. 30 million viewers a night. Unbelievable. How crazy is that?
Starting point is 00:47:01 And then they did the weakest link. Remember? It had that kind of brassy broad. He was running it. The weakest link. You are the weakest link. back. Yeah, I think I did watch the Regis, a millionaire.
Starting point is 00:47:10 I think when that was like really hot. And the best episodes are like Norm MacDonald going on. Unbelievable. If I do 50-50, it's not going to just leave Lisbon and Madrid, right? Then he does a great face. Yeah. Dude, I think, I've been thinking about this lately. I think we need the monoculture back.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Yeah, it'd be nice. What do you think? What does that mean? Like this. Like everyone's watching who wants to be a millionaire. Everyone's watching Lost. everyone's, you know, watching CNN. Monoculture?
Starting point is 00:47:38 Yeah, like before Web2O, like, individuated everybody's kind of media experience and we could silo off into like our own kind of taste and algorithm. Like, we all just had to watch the same thing. Yeah. Yeah, when's the last one that was like that, do you think the most recent? Like Taylor Swift and football
Starting point is 00:47:54 are the only remnants of the monoculture where everyone is aware of what happens in those two spaces. Yeah. You don't think baseball? Now or in the past? Now. No. I think baseball is like
Starting point is 00:48:06 Not I think it's coming back a little bit I mean the world series I think was pretty No but I don't think I don't think baseball's ratings are like are even more Are you big baseball guy? Yeah But I know they're getting better for sure like you said Yeah
Starting point is 00:48:20 The pitch clocks helped a ton like it's made it But you're right yeah I think football is probably But I feel like maybe more people watch the World Series than Super Bowl because of Japan specifically I do like I've been talking about the Japanese players on here and I'm a huge each row guy I was on here a couple weeks ago I said I think he's the most I think he has the highest approval rating of any athlete of my lifetime he just hits him out of the park up in Seattle they had like an class like an old-timer's home run derby and he like my friend
Starting point is 00:48:47 was there and he said that he was like cranking balls is it Jake was telling me is that is that the toughest place to hit a homer and is it I think there's some that I feel like places are tough they say the water's heavier from yeah I mean in that place is lit is on the Puget I mean, you couldn't almost get closer to the water. I love a sound. I think is it like Denver is the easiest place to hit home? Yeah, the altitude. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Oh, yeah. That's... Like when I was growing up, Gala Raga, Larry Walker, Donta. They were all hitting like 50 bombs. Think about how lucky the people in Denver are. Their team is like not good, but they can basically go at any time and see other teams hit their biggest home runs ever. You're going to have some fun at the game.
Starting point is 00:49:29 It's like, hey, at least we got this, you know. Were you a Mariners fan growing up? Yeah. That was a sick team. That was so fun. You had like Griffey and Jay Buehner in those guys. Andy Johnson. I mean,
Starting point is 00:49:40 A-Rod. There was so many. Yeah, I remember when A-Rod was there. I remember when he left. I went to the first game. He came back and played against us when he was with Texas. People were so angry.
Starting point is 00:49:49 They were throwing monopoly money. It was just, it was just loading in the stadium. Yeah. But yeah, he, that was such a fun time. I remember going and seeing Bo Jackson play. Wow.
Starting point is 00:50:01 He came out. He was with the White Sox of this. point it was like towards the end of his career and it was some monumental part of his career like there was a record he had broken or something but he rode out onto the field in a Harley. Yeah. That's sad. Not in it actually. He wasn't hiding in it.
Starting point is 00:50:20 He was on it. Yeah. It was like there wasn't a Trojan horse situation. Wow. He came out and it was so, I mean, I was so, he was my favorite. I read his book. It was called Bow Nose. I read everything.
Starting point is 00:50:34 It talks about how he like, he dunked a rock. Oh my gosh. There it is. He dunked a rock in like a basketball hoop when he was in like seventh grade or something. That was in the book. And I just remember being like, what a stud. It's unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:50:48 And then I saw Michael Jordan play against the Sonics. Dude. And that was. You guys had a good Sonics team too. We did at that time. Did you go to the finals? Dude, what's so crazy is two weeks ago, no, a week ago, I was flying to North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:51:02 And I was getting on the plane. And I just last minute, my friend Luca had given me the Sonics hat. And I was like, I'll wear it. I never wear this. And I love it. It's a good hat. I'm walking on the plane. Gary Payton is in first class.
Starting point is 00:51:14 Dude. And he sees me like around the corner and he looks and I see him clock the hat and kind of go, this guy's going to want to talk to me probably. He was wearing all Oregon State ducks gear. And I walked by him and I just said like, hey, I'm not going to bother you. But that's cool. I do the same level.
Starting point is 00:51:33 If I saw Tony Allen, and I'm not even like, I didn't even know I was a Tony Allen fan. And then when I saw him, I was like, I'm the biggest Tony Allen fan in the world. And I was like, hey, man, you're like the best defender in my lifetime. And he was just like, thanks. And then he walked away and I was like, that felt good. That's how you do it. I was on the, during the fires when the fires were happening here, I was on staying with some people down on like the coast for a week. We were like trying to get away from it.
Starting point is 00:51:57 And like Dana Poinish kind of. And I'm on the path. And Randy Johnson is just riding a bike down the path. Sick. And I just put my hand up and he low-fived it. Like he was so high-high on a bike. And then one time I high-fived Boehner in New York City. And he almost took my arm off.
Starting point is 00:52:18 I mean, it was a... He's a strong dude. He looks in. Yeah. He's like, if you were like drawing... He looks like he'd be in the movie like Roadhouse or something like that. He was such a badass. Have you seen when Ken Griffey...
Starting point is 00:52:29 The bone. Have you seen when Ken Griffey talks? about Jay Buehner and he's like he's like one guy likes country one guy likes hip hop but if anything ever happened to me he'd be the one I'd want to watch my kids and then Buehner starts to cry and gives him the finger yeah have you seen that shit I watched that all I remember when griffy like hurt his finger um I think it was like I feel like people talked about it like he was in the shower or something and he like sprained his finger and it was just such a and during that time he went and bought a BMW for his or somebody, his niece or something,
Starting point is 00:53:03 at a dealership that my dad worked with. And I just thought like, basically at the time I felt like I'd met Ken Griffey Jr. Because I was through three different people. Yeah. Did Randy Johnson still have a mullet when he saw him? He's rocking something. No, no, I don't think he has a mullet anymore.
Starting point is 00:53:20 But, you know, him and Griffey both, him before Griffey takes photos. He's a photographer, right? For the NFL and, like, Metallica. Wow. Griffey's now taking photos, like real. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:35 So cool. That's cool. Isn't that what like the MySpace founder did too? Yeah. He sold Myspace and he became a photographer. That's cool. Yeah, look at that. I mean, that vest itself.
Starting point is 00:53:51 Oh, dude, yeah. Do you think he thinks about that bird he killed sometimes? I have nightmares about it? Probably one of the best things that ever happened to him. He thinks that he's proud of it. I mean, listen. He didn't do it on purpose. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:04 I had a cat one time. I didn't run over a cat. A cat was darting across the street and it hit my hubcap and killed itself. Like it was like the timing of it was just so. I don't mean to laugh. I hit the side of it though. Yeah, hit my hubcap. And I always kind of thought I could relate to Randy with that situation.
Starting point is 00:54:27 Sure. Wow. Yeah. I used to work out this guy Jim. He was older than this. He became a cop. And he said he got on the free one. A homeless guy killed himself by jumping in front of his car.
Starting point is 00:54:40 Oh, his car. Yeah. Damn. But then this other guy we worked out with Teg was like, how did that feel? And then Jim was like, honestly, he was in New Yorker. He was like, honestly, pretty rewarding. I was like, like, 60. I was like, why the fuck would that be reward?
Starting point is 00:55:00 Just feel good. What an odd word selection. I do it again. The cops come. They're like, all right, who's the driver? He's like, it was me. They're like, all right, get him the trophy. I did.
Starting point is 00:55:10 You did good, sir. On behalf of the department, we want to say thank you. Yeah. I didn't see him coming, but I'm glad it happened. Yeah, if he did like a speech or something, that would be nice. Yeah. Dude, so you've been on the road with Nate. a bunch right yeah yeah how is it doing those shows i mean those shows are massive huh they are it's
Starting point is 00:55:35 pretty fun yeah i mean it's really uh hit play hit stop yeah right because you can't like you can't you don't know what's happening right you don't there's like a delay kind of because of where you where you're located in to everything else yeah and so usually my jokes are about a second delayed from me. So I'm saying them and then I'm done and where the laugh normally hits, it hits a second later. And you don't think about it, but it like, it's odd. Yeah. And you're like, in that one second, you have enough time to think they didn't hear it or it's not going to work. Right. And then it works. And so you're constantly like, and then once you do it enough, you kind of get used to that, but it's fun. It's a rhythm too of like waiting for it to go before
Starting point is 00:56:23 you say the next thing. Yeah, it's just odd. You have to like artificially build in a little bit of like tape delay in yourself. Yeah. You can't. kind of have to, you kind of have to just realize you need to keep going at the same speed. Yeah. Even if it sounds like it's delayed a little bit, you need to keep your speed going to keep your timing going on the delay. So don't wait because there'll be a delay on the next thing. Yeah, you don't like, you can't sit around and wait on it. Oh, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:56:46 But the people are so excited to see Nate and it's such a big crowd and they just are just like, it's such a fun experience. Yeah, and he's like breaking, he set the attendance record. Yeah, Guinness World Record. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's so crazy.
Starting point is 00:57:01 I mean, it must be nuts. Because I would watch him, he's always been like the funniest dude. But I would watch him at Comedy Bang Bang when I first moved up here. And he would like host those shows a lot. And he had great jokes about like how you can't retire from stand up. Like, who do you tell? Do you tell Cosby or something? There's really funny bits.
Starting point is 00:57:16 But I don't think I would have predicted in that moment that even though I thought he was hilarious that he was going to be the Guinness World Record holder for most tickets sold in history. Yeah. The one thing I remember that should have been a clue. was, because I've known him for so long, and he's always been, I consider one of my funniest friends on stage. And he didn't want to be a part of the hip comedy scene. Right. He was almost against it, but everyone in the hip comedy scene respected him.
Starting point is 00:57:49 The second they saw him perform, they'd be like, yeah, this guy's legit, you know? And so when somebody doesn't alter what they do to fit into taste me, kind of essentially, and they're still liked. It's a good sign that it's going to move forward. It's a great point. Yeah, I guess more too what I mean. It was never like the caliber of his funny. I was like, oh, he's funny.
Starting point is 00:58:10 It was just like, I didn't even know he had that like ambition in him because he was playing like a schlubby character on stage. Which obviously now that I'm like older, I realize like, you know, the character you play doesn't have to be totally indicative of the like how the wheels turn all the time. But I was just like. I don't think any other industry, Nate could have made it. because his drive for comedy is so good. But it's also you get rewarded every time you do it, essentially.
Starting point is 00:58:41 Yeah. And so no other job do you get as rewarded. Yeah. So as quickly. You can come up the joke that day and have came back. But he was just a road dog, man. And he was just performing on the road over and over and over. And it's just reward, reward, reward.
Starting point is 00:58:57 even if like the tickets you're not selling out yet and you're slowly building this kind of thing you know I always thought because I you know I started following him around like you know 2013 2014 I always thought it like same to your point is it was I always loved listening to him because it's very like felt very subtle and like the way he played his character was very smart and it was just very appealing I mean especially as a comedy fan where I'm like oh, the writing's so smart here and so well done. And I just love that character too that he was playing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:33 His persona. And the fact that it could translate to such big venues, I think is so cool. But yeah, it's a similar thing where it's, he's just, and I've heard this about him too where he never really like, he made the room come to his energy level where he never was like, oh, someone who's high energy, I got to bring the energy. It's like he always kind of like stayed at his. Never altered. And then they would come to him in a way.
Starting point is 01:00:02 Also, it's a guy that's on stage sharing embarrassing moments or sharing embarrassing maybe things like that he doesn't understand. Yeah. In a way that people were afraid to do. And so people hear that and they think, oh, wow, it's so nice. You know, like. Yeah. Right.
Starting point is 01:00:16 It disarms you a little bit. Yeah. He's like, I don't understand how science works. Like if I travel back in history, I wouldn't be able to like, no. Yeah. That's true. Yeah. His dad was a magician, right?
Starting point is 01:00:26 Still is, yeah. He's on tour every now and again. Oh, does he bring him with him sometimes? Sometimes he'll open, yeah, and you just put out a special for him. Oh, that's cool. I mean, his dad is so, it's so everything about Nate's act and his dad is just real. His dad, but his dad is also the sweetest, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:43 He's just been doing this fun job his whole life. That's cool. And when you watch him, like, do tricks on people, it's really fun. Mm-hmm. You know, magicians, though, have that way of, you know, face-to-face um they got talking chops they're pro yeah i almost more than like comedians in a way too like if you go to magic castle you're like dude this guy's got like a rap like he gets through it fast he knows how to react to stuff oh yeah it's like it's like it's like going on stage
Starting point is 01:01:12 you know like a and some of them can do it up with audiences and they have the bigger shows but some people are just so good at that just face-to-face kind of come on hey should we do some calls hey what's if someone did a VR a headset thing, but it's a cold on. For what? What? Just an idea.
Starting point is 01:01:36 What if you go around to tech people and pitch them this idea where you put on a headset and you see inside a person's rectum. Call it disruption. Call it the future. Say it's a form of introspection.
Starting point is 01:01:57 See the body from this. So you become self-aware. It's a form of therapy. I just heard therapy. So he was saying, what if there was a VR camera where you could see inside of someone else's rectum? Oh.
Starting point is 01:02:17 I mean, that, I'm pretty sure, like a live version of it? Because I mean, I think you can just probably look it up and see that. but maybe not maybe it's not like a choose your own adventure type rectum search maybe that's what he wants
Starting point is 01:02:33 yeah yeah so if it's VR it wouldn't actually be a real person's rectum oh it's like if you pitch it to tech people oh I guess I'm curious would you say tech people are the most unpopular subset of people in the world right now
Starting point is 01:02:53 they get made yeah like the tech bro kind of thing yeah I was just at a bar in Austin Austin's a great town Those east side Those east six bars Best bars in America Oh yeah yeah They're ripping
Starting point is 01:03:06 Whitehorse That's a coolest place I've been Everyone's got a great outfit on Yeah and Austin's full of them Because they've got Google there and they've got Right
Starting point is 01:03:14 Yeah But it's like they've become like The catch It's almost like I think finance is almost An underdog now Yeah Yeah finance
Starting point is 01:03:22 I mean but isn't that all the same It is probably In my mind I mean I know it's different But yeah It's I mean, I'm coming from Seattle, I feel like the original, well, Microsoft when I was a kid was like, that's when it boomed. And that was like everyone working at Microsoft and it just kept
Starting point is 01:03:42 growing and growing and it was in the news and you're like, this is a big thing happening in the world and it's happening a mile from my house. You know? Do you ever see Bill Gates or bomber or any of those guys? I see, I saw a bomber naked ones. Really? Yeah. Where? In the locker room at a gym. Nice. This is a real story. I thought you're joking. No, my parents, I saw Sean Kemp's dick. I saw, wow. These are some really high profile dicks.
Starting point is 01:04:07 Yeah, it's, well, the thing is, is that, um, that, so we were members at a place called the Pro Club, which is right across from where Microsoft was, but we became members when the Pro Club was a trailer with just like a few workout things in it. It was like 25 bucks a month. And then Microsoft bought it and it became this luxury resort and it had like an indoor, like The Sonics practice there. Wow. And all the Microsoft people went there.
Starting point is 01:04:33 And the locker room was just a, if you like Dix, you go in that locker room. I'm a huge fan. There are guys just waiting to be seen, walking around, watching ESPN on leather couches, just wide. And that's how I saw bombers. He was just on a chair. There was no way to not see. Yeah. And he seems comfortable in his own skin.
Starting point is 01:04:53 Yeah. I'm sure. With that much money, who cares? Was that, do you think that was beneficial for your development as a man? I do. Yeah. Yeah, I think I learned a lot. I think, because I peed next to Sean Kemp.
Starting point is 01:05:04 Do you have a bigger dick than him? Yeah. And that's what I thought, okay, maybe things are looking good. Yeah. Yeah. I can be whatever I want. Yeah. Have you seen DeLef Shrimps there?
Starting point is 01:05:16 Yeah, yeah. Nice. Shrimp. I saw, I also did name, I saw name McMillens. I don't even remember him. Yeah, of course. Became a coach. Yeah, I did his basketball camp.
Starting point is 01:05:25 He used to do every summer the Nate McMillan basketball camp there. Oh dude, yeah Did you, so when you saw Gary Payton Did you almost want to be like Hey man I never saw him there But you could have, I've seen a lot of your Buddy's dick
Starting point is 01:05:39 Yeah, yeah Yeah and I wish I would have seen yours I could have said that That's the one I wanted though Yeah that was that was my What did they call that? Your unicorn Yeah
Starting point is 01:05:51 Dude that that If you do a talk show That could be kind of a Something you go back to every episode would be like the time I saw Balmer's Dick, the time I saw this guy's dick and how it affected me. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:05 And you don't have to like out them or like their size or girth or whatever but just like the experience. And the thing is is you can obviously Google Dick and you could see multiple pictures. There's huge ones out there too. They have at least 10 or 15
Starting point is 01:06:21 that you can look at immediately and look at it. But it's the in person kind of personal touch to it, you know, where, you know, someone's drying their hair, you know, that's the thing is you see like a close-up of a dick, you don't know if they're drying their hair or if they're brushing their teeth at that moment.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Right. But when you see it so close like that, you can tell, you know, what it looks like in that situation. Or what their bellies doing too. Like sometimes you'll see kind of like a Fupa guy and he's got a long one. Yeah, and it's all kind of jarring to take in at the same time. And you wonder how big it would be
Starting point is 01:06:55 if he didn't have the foo there. If he cut the weight. Yeah. Because I think they say you get like a quarter of an inch for like every 10 pounds you lose. Yeah. I think there's probably a place where that stops happening,
Starting point is 01:07:05 like a certain body fat level. There's an intervention at some point to be like, listen, you're capable of this. Yeah, you could have two extra inches of did. And are you sure you don't want that?
Starting point is 01:07:15 I do. Mm-hmm. You know? I want that for you. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I'm trying to lose weight. That's a good weight loss program. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:25 Yeah. Thanks for telling us. Spel all those dogs. Yeah, that was great. Available dick. The dick you have available if you were to lose weight. Yeah. Yeah, total addressable dick.
Starting point is 01:07:37 What's up, bros? This is Jackie from the Jersey Shore. Whoa. Thanks for all your helpful information on your show, much of preach. You know, I've been a chick my whole life, but ever since I started pegging my boyfriend, I've been feeling more like a dude. Not like I'm trend or anything. and not even non-binary, but I'm just a lady who really enjoys having a rubber boner to fuck my boyfriend with.
Starting point is 01:08:04 In fact, anytime my stoke is low, I strap up and instantly feel better. I actually feel like sucking my boyfriend helps to balance out all my womanly hormones that keep me bitching, whining, and stress. And even when I do get stress, I know chill is just a few pumps away. my problem oh fuck listen here's my real problem is I'm thinking
Starting point is 01:08:32 that more ladies could regulate I just thought redo this don't I fuck this AI I think that's your right pound
Starting point is 01:08:41 I think that's a boyfriend coacher I think I mean I knew it was a written deal yeah I mean to get that information across it's nice to write it out she did a great job
Starting point is 01:08:53 she seems really cool Yeah, I would say, you know, I don't know what your question is, but don't change. Keep doing what you're doing. You sound awesome. If your boyfriend likes it, I think, yeah. Yeah, yeah, if he likes it, yeah, I'd be curious to know. If he's doing you a favor. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:13 I do think we have like a built-in judgment when we upset what we think a sexual dynamic is supposed to look like. And I do think it's like a huge amplifier. if you can do something that would be like traditionally shameful. And if you see each other in that context, it actually deepens the relationship because you're like, oh, like you're being vulnerable in front of me. It's almost like telling someone something you're scared of, but it's more visceral because it's physical and it's happening.
Starting point is 01:09:41 So yeah, I think I would recommend everybody get pegged, do pegging, and just see what that opens up in you. And there's nothing in any of the traditional Judeo-Christian books that even addresses pegging. Right. It's a... I wouldn't call it a loophole, but I'd say it's, you know...
Starting point is 01:10:00 God's omnipotent. He could have called it out if he wanted to. Yeah, and you think they would have brought it up because... Right. I don't know if they had rubber back then, so they must have been doing some sort of a bark.
Starting point is 01:10:11 Yeah. You know? They would do like a silk kind of... Yeah. Probably like wrap a stick and silk. Yeah. Ooh. The UTIs must have been crazy back then.
Starting point is 01:10:24 Tell me about it. Damn. But yeah, that's cool. She seems cool. I'd really like to her to keep calling in and leaving more messages. No, I mean, it was a great call. It was probably one of my favorite calls in the past, like, in a while. She crushed.
Starting point is 01:10:43 Hey, Chad and JT. A long-time listener, first-time caller from the Northeast here. I'm going to Hawaii, and I'm looking for some wrecks. go to a big island Oahu, North Shore, Waikiki, and then Kauai. So looking for like pokey,
Starting point is 01:11:01 Asai, all that good stuff. Love the pod. Shout out the Stokers. Shout out my brother, Jack. You ever been to the Target in Maui? No. How is it? I would say go there first.
Starting point is 01:11:18 Yeah, I'm going for my honeymoon next month, so I'm going to hit that. Yeah. It's all the same stuff you get here. And it just kind of makes you feel at home, you know. Oh, interesting. Do they have pokey? I'm sure they do.
Starting point is 01:11:33 They have muscle milk? Yeah, they do. I know that for a fact. That's nice. They got serri-vi? Yeah, I mean, if you want to keep that tan, I would be using that on the way. For sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:47 All right. Sounds sick. I got some good, uh, wikiki. He's going to Oahu, right? Yeah. Hellanus? Or no, he's going to the Big Island. Oh, he's not going to O'Wa?
Starting point is 01:11:59 Oh, they have a Target. They have a Target? Yeah. Yeah, dude, go to Target. Go to Target. Damn. Yeah, Target's the place. I find it interesting they asked us for Rex because we live in California.
Starting point is 01:12:14 Yeah. So it's cool that we give off that vibe that we're on the Big Island, but... I've been to the Big Island. Me too. Nice. Yeah. I've been to Kona on a cruise. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:27 Yeah. Where are you going? You said... Maui, we were... Capulua. Nice. Near Honolua Bay and Windmills and Lahaina. You're going to surf?
Starting point is 01:12:42 You're going to surf. Honolua Bay. Windmills is a fun left that Clay Marzo serves. Are you goofy? I'm goofy. Do you surf? I'm trying. Dude, we should go out.
Starting point is 01:12:52 I did when I did. I was younger and then I haven't and I'm now. Do you serve with Lachlan? Have you gone? I never gone with Lachlan, no. Dude, we should all go out. Get Joe Prano in there? Yeah, I need to kind of re-up.
Starting point is 01:13:05 Yeah, dude, I was at El Porto yesterday. Oh, nice. Yeah, it was crowded though. Do you see Pack? I saw his bus. I didn't see him, though. I saw Eclipse of Huntington yesterday and it was kind of wild. Dude, and Newport, the River Jeddies is going off.
Starting point is 01:13:21 Is it really? It's pumping? Crazy. I think there's a tropical storm coming. There's going to be like 20 to 25 foot waves at the wedge. It's El Nino, right? Yeah, super El Nino. This would be bigger than 94 El Nino?
Starting point is 01:13:32 Yeah, it's a super big. The wedge is that one that crashes basically like it. Cyclops wave. That is so scary. Yeah, it's, you know, it's, you got to have big balls to go out there. I've been to that beach and then I saw this, there's like an old man just like walking towards the water and like all these people started running like no, no, no, no. Yeah, yeah. You can't even, you can't just go away.
Starting point is 01:13:52 into this water. No, no, no, no. You had the wedge. Do you think he was he trying to like, was that his? He didn't have a board or anything. He was just going. Do you think it was like his
Starting point is 01:14:01 Sianara? Oh. He was like the cat and the hub cat. Way to bring that back. Yeah, good. Did callback for the end? Oh, dude, thank you so much for coming on. You're the man.
Starting point is 01:14:17 It was fun. Yeah, it was really fun. Yeah. I'm taping my stand-up special September 17th in Chicago. Oh, hell. and fortunately there are still some tickets available. Where are you recording at?
Starting point is 01:14:30 The Den. Oh, nice. Two shows. First show's looking good. There's still some tickets on second show. I would love, love to have people come out to that. Guys, head out there. Chicago's great.
Starting point is 01:14:43 One of the best comedy towns. It's so sick. Yeah, I love it there. And then I just, Nicktoon.com is, and Arby's.com. But for tour or date, it's Nicktoon.com. Nice. Dude, good promo. My friend's 14-year-old son built this site for me.
Starting point is 01:15:00 Dude, it has like an 80s, 90s. I know, I told him. I was like, just do something super simple, man. And I mean, his first job he ever had, and I go. And yeah, just invoice me. And his mom said that she walked in on him like Googling invoice. Yeah.
