Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a Dear Media production. Two Jews, both big and tall, no subject, too small for the good guys. A mother's dream, premium podcast team, make it your weekly routine, it's a good guys. And if you don't give us five stars, what are you nuts? What are you nuts? Yeah, we're the good guys. They're not the great guys. We're just so good a good guy.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Mazumorans, welcome back to the Good Guys podcast. Josh, are you not impressed? You changed. Impressive, no? Really? Yeah. Yes. Now nobody will ever know that we recorded these the same day because I'm wearing a different shirt. Is that why you did it?
Starting point is 00:00:55 Wow. Look at you. Oh, my God. You are fully manspread right now and I can just see. I guess I blew it. Because I told you. By the way, get over it, okay? Get over me and my shorts.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Here, I'll change the zoom angle. It's just like, whoa. How about that, Joshua? What's funny is you have this East Coast sensibility about you, and I see you when you're really dressed up nicely. Like, you know me, I don't dress up really for anything. I'm West Coast carry over here. I'm wearing baseball hats to Michelin Star restaurants,
Starting point is 00:01:28 but you dress so nicely, you have beautiful buttonups. You were Todd's loafers. And yet for this podcast, you make no effort. It's too hot. No effort. My God, I've been shot in the back. I just changed. I'm wearing a new shirt.
Starting point is 00:01:45 It looks good on you. I'm wearing, do you know how expensive these beautiful sneakers are? What kind are they? No effort. Sorry I'm wearing Nike. Vince ever heard of them? I love it. You know, Vince in theory are really like my Everest of free shit because I've not
Starting point is 00:02:02 quite been able to scale that mountain yet, but one day I will get them to send me a, but you're working at. A publicity package of peepee. But look, to go back to what you said, and then we will drop it, it is simply too hot. I get too hot when I record. That's it. And this studio that I'm recording in particular is hot, hot, hot. So yeah, I like to be comfortable so that I can let my brain do the talking.
Starting point is 00:02:24 And if you watch on video, it's just a bonus. Sometimes you get to see the inside of my thigh. I think so. And you really, where are we hovering around 238? You look smaller and thinner than ever. You look sveled as a belt. I appreciate it. Yeah, I should be somewhere around there.
Starting point is 00:02:40 I've been eating very mindfully. Last night, Josh, I had a big ass steak. Yeah. I'm getting full on good things first. You ever just eat as much steak as he can and realize you can't really eat that much of it? You try. You're eating, you're eating, you're eating. And you hit a wall.
Starting point is 00:02:55 And that, Josh, is called putting good things in your body before bad. Right? Yeah. I mean, I can tear up a steak. I can tear it in. If it's right, it's like I'm a bottomless pit. I'm a bottomless pit. You think that.
Starting point is 00:03:13 I don't think you've ever had the opportunity to be a bottomless pit with ribby. I could not. Bottomless would be very hard. How much could you really eat? What do you really think you could eat? A healthy, not like a tomahawk, but like a healthy, big, what's a normal ribby including bone? 28 ounces? 32 ounces, but like half of its bone?
Starting point is 00:03:35 Yeah. No, probably 20% bone. No, really? Yeah, it's not that much. All right. 25% bone. You're the expert. Okay, so let's call it 24 ounces of meat, a pound and a half.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Yeah. I could eat that, no problem. If it's my main meal for the day, I agree that you could eat that. You could definitely eat that. But that's not anything crazy. It isn't? Like that's not bottomless pit energy.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Wow, you could eat a whole steak? No, what do you mean? Lugers. Let's go to Lugers because you were there recently. Could you put that whole thing down? I ordered steak for one ate the whole thing. Steak for one. See, I couldn't eat a whole steak for two.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I couldn't do it. That's insane. Lathered and butter. Oh, that's like heavy stuff. The steak I made, Josh, I have a wonderful steak marinade. these days. I'm just going in with a little bit of soy sauce, some Worcestershire, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt pepper, leaving it for about two hours before cooking. Phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Interesting. Interesting. But you're looking up over there. Mr. Lookup? Yeah. I'm Larry lookups. Okay. I'm like, am I going to be red to filth or what's happening? No, we are real Fat soes though. Okay. Okay. I said how much meat is on a 32 ounce ribeye steak and what are the calories?
Starting point is 00:05:10 Chad said a 32 ounce ribai is a monster. You big fat sores. Please. Chat GPT is anti-Semitic. Please, chat. Okay, so a 32 ounce boneless rabbi, which by the way, who gets that? But depending on trimming, perhaps,
Starting point is 00:05:28 is 24 to 28 ounces of leanish meat and 48 ounces of visible fat. A 32-ounce bone-in rib-eye leaves around, yeah, 25 to 28 ounces of edible steak. You were right on the money. So a 32-ounce rib-eye is, and even if you leave a decent amount of the fat sections behind, I would estimate that it is 1900 to 2,300 calories. It's your entire allotment of calories for the day. But let's talk about calories, Josh.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Sure. If you had, I know it's calories in calories out. I get it. I know that's really how it works. I just think that if you every day had 64 ounces of steak, you would be sveled. 64. So you're talking about 4,000 plus calories worth of steak? 4,000 calories of just steak.
Starting point is 00:06:29 I think if you had 64 ounces of steak a day, you would be sveled. What do you think? I think you, um, the laws of science say that's not true. I know, but how? You're right. Because it's calories and calories out.
Starting point is 00:06:46 But how? You're just eating steak. What if you had 14 watermelons a day? It's all you ate. Then you think you'd be swelled? All calorie surplus is turned into the same thing. It's fascinating. If you're,
Starting point is 00:07:01 I know you're right. 4,000 calories. I know you're right. kale. It still ends as fat. But you're right, there's like the difference between a clean bulk and a junk bulk. Um, and sounds super gay. I like that junk bulk. Um, um, clean bulge. I, uh, but I think what you're getting at more and you're absolutely right is that steak is so nutrient dense and is so clean in many cases that your opportunity for satiety
Starting point is 00:07:40 is majorly increased. So if you start with a stake, you're much less likely to fill up on bullshit because you're just more full. You're more satisfied. You're much, by the way, 10 point word on satiety. The otherwise known as satiated. Folks, you can't eat 64 ounces of steak. So it really was a trick question. I don't think that you could possibly do it.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Could you do it? Like how many? I'm trying to think how much meat is in a hamburger? Eight ounces. How much meat is in a hamburger? Tops. Tops. Maybe even less.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I just ate burgers. Eight burgers? But then there's like, and again, Right? Like a burger is, you're also getting a 400 calorie roll and maybe 200 calories in mayo for you. You're throwing on Russian dressing. And then if there's cheese, like that's also, that's what really drives it up because the burger alone is pretty clean. But then there's like that place in Amarillo, Texas, where you drive through it. They have the 72-ounce steak. But here's the kicker. They go, if you eat this within an hour, it's free. But what they don't advertise is. you also have to eat like a baked potato, a salad, bread. Of course. Like there's extras. But even a 72-ounce steak, that is a monster.
Starting point is 00:09:12 But people do it. Wow. Yeah, no, I would get sick. I would get sick. I probably had, this is probably a 16-ounce steak that I had last night. And I was fucking full. I, like, like really, really full. It was so good, delicious and juicy.
Starting point is 00:09:32 See, if you end up using the marinade, you take it off, you've cooked it to your desired preference, Josh. It looks beautiful. Grill marks. All you want to do, right? Dig in. Eat it. If you don't wait 10 minutes for that shit to rest, your steak is done, boy. It's done.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Let it rest. Slice it against the grain. You look for those fibers. Look, they're running across it. You slice against it. You should be able to pull it apart. And it's a dream. And what do you say is our chef,
Starting point is 00:10:02 expert that you should really pull it off the, if you're going to let it sit for 10 minutes, it means it's going to cook more. So you should pull it off the grill one level below what you want. You like medium well. Pull it at medium. Otherwise you are screwed. Absolutely. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:10:18 It will continue to cook. It will continue to firm up. If you like that shit rare, be careful, man. You should probably get a meat thermometer. Be careful. I don't. I'm a true in a restaurant, medium rare. At home, medium.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I'm even fine sometimes with medium well. I don't know. There's just something weird about cooking a medium rare steak at home. I like, it just, you know what I mean? Oh, yes, I do know what you mean, Ben. I think people get real cookie with this shit. And then they start ordering the off-menu temperatures like black and blue. Hey, bud, are you Dracula?
Starting point is 00:10:58 Take it easy. Are you in twilight? You're eating raw meat? that's my mom you know Ava is a black and blue girl she's black and blue yeah she eats that steak disgustingly raw
Starting point is 00:11:13 I like when I can taste their feelings raw I like I like when I can taste their memories Benjamin this cow had quite the life fabulous
Starting point is 00:11:32 memories from this cow. So loved. It was so loved. Right to the end when the kosher farmer shot it in between the eyes and bled it out
Starting point is 00:11:42 on his front porch. Oh, my God. This episode of the Good Guys podcast is brought to you by our friends at Dose. Can we talk about the most underrated organ in your body?

Starting point is 00:14:56 Space 80. I feel like the same people, I've seen consistencies. If you like food raw, if you like steaks raw, you like eggs raw too. And I never understood this. Loose, runny. I could throw up. There's nothing grosser to me than a wet, loose omelet. Sure, you want to have a sunny side-up egg with a yolk that drips?
Starting point is 00:15:23 No problem. I have no issues with that. I get it. Okay. Not my cup of tea, but I totally get it. Loose egg white is disgusting. That's disgusting. What about a soft scramble?
Starting point is 00:15:40 It's still just not as loose as at least what I have in my head of my mom ordering a loose omelet, where you see uncooked egg white. That stinks. Yucky. Yucky. Yucky. I think it's important that I mention that today is her birthday. God bless her.
Starting point is 00:15:58 birthday to my beautiful mom. You freaking queen. Tonight, Josh. You know where we're going tonight? You know where we're going? You know where we're going for her birthday? Bruno Mars. Wow.
Starting point is 00:16:12 I love it. I love it. Yeah. Madison Square Garden. 24K golden. Of course not. Nothing can ever be easy. We're going to the second most inconvenient venue in the tri-state area.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Number one, as we've discussed, is Jones Beach. Life. Number two, which really is number one. Net life. Oh, ouch. It's so bad. It's so bad.
Starting point is 00:16:40 It's just Lincoln Tunnel. So much traffic. And I looked, Josh. Look, I love Bruno Mars. Me too. I love him. I think he's insanely talented. So fun.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Just awesome. His concert's called for seven. You know the average time he's been going on stage? 9.15. Of course. Yeah. That's tough. Wednesday night.
Starting point is 00:17:07 No, goes. 915 start in MetLife. Because he says, you think I'm going to come out while you're still getting your fucking churros? You know, he's, you think I'm going to get out while he's still coming and you're eating your chili cheese fries? No. Okay. I want to come out after you've digested. You've gone.
Starting point is 00:17:28 for your pee break and then you get to see BM. You're gonna. After you made a BM, you get to see BM. Exactly. Yeah, 915 on a Wednesday is just too aggressive. I'm sorry. Like, you people are going to be sleeping. Maybe it's just me.
Starting point is 00:17:47 I go to sleep at 915. So this idea that I'm going to a concert that doesn't start until 915 in the middle of New Jersey, I'm not going to lie, Josh, it's giving me a little anxiety. Do you get anxiety around, late nights. Sure.
Starting point is 00:18:01 As a parent, when you're in your routine. I'm in my routine. I go to bed at 9.15, 9.30. I wake up whenever my body wants to wake up. Could be six, could be 6.30. If Ruby wakes me up, whatever it may be. But this idea that I'm not going to be asleep until probably midnight is really stressing me out. Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:20 It's any disruption to routine messes me out big. Big. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's hard. It just, it's hard. And I just like think to myself, like, I didn't used to be like this.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Like, how did I do it? How did I just like, how was it routine that I guess I was sleeping until one o'clock in the afternoon? I guess that's how I did it. Like you're not waking up early in the morning after a really late night. But yeah, I have trouble with a nine o'clock start. I feel like a grandpa. Last night. Because I'll tell you most of my days
Starting point is 00:19:00 Last night I fell asleep at the perfect time Right at the stroke of 10. Okay? Right at 10 p.m. I was out, out, out like a light. I was up, eyes darting awake at 5 a.m. this morning. Seven hours. I look over my...
Starting point is 00:19:15 This is what happens. Because you can feel it in your body. I go, I think this was a good one. This was a good one, I think. You know, the kids didn't wake me up. I think this was good. Yeah, of course. And I turn over.
Starting point is 00:19:27 And I see the five and I go, I do the quick math in my head. I carry the one. I go, we did it. Seven hours. It's good. Yeah. It's a nice stretch. It's great.
Starting point is 00:19:37 It's the best. And that was uninterrupted. You didn't pee. You didn't wake up nothing. Uninterrupted. And then I, I didn't spend the next hour doing whatever. Like I usually now I'm so wasted after like five in the afternoon that I,
Starting point is 00:19:51 I can't catch up on the work that I need to do. So I wake up early with a fresh brain. to quickly catch up on like I'm firing emails, five to six, I'm just getting work done, work done, then I hear the bellows, the cries,
Starting point is 00:20:05 the yips of my little boy, Meyer, he's crying out, I go get him. I go, hi Meyer, hi Meyer. He goes,
Starting point is 00:20:15 I go, kind of a kiss, and he goes, he just puts his open mouth over my lips and nose. Yeah, the best. And I give him his bottle.
Starting point is 00:20:27 I watch. of mid-season episode of entourage, totally inappropriate, but he's too young to know it yet. So good. So good. And yeah, and then slowly but surely each child rises. And then I'm getting lunches ready. I'm getting, first I'm getting breakfast ready and they want courses. They want a bread and a yogurt course.
Starting point is 00:20:47 I'm like, oh, okay, let's do. We'll do your toast course and then we'll do your yogurt granola course. And then, you know, a little shy, he's like, I would like a cherry prime, please. like his father, big Logan Paul guy. So then I got to go get the prime powder. I'm throwing it in his bluey sippy cup. I'm shaking like I'm making fucking mocktails for three-year-olds. And I give him his prime cup.
Starting point is 00:21:12 And then I'm getting lunches ready. And then I go and then Paige comes down around, you know, 11. No, Pete comes down about an hour after I wake up. And then she jumps in and then I go. run upstairs and start doing my things. And yeah, and that's, and so if I'm out till midnight, I just know how that, that five or six a.m. wake up's going to hurt. It's just stressful, man.
Starting point is 00:21:40 It's stressful. The mornings with the kids, so we've been in the Hamptons with Jackie, her kid, the whole family. And in the mornings, I'm making, because I cook for everybody, I'm making her sons, their eggs, And making Ruby his eggs. And yeah, it's courses, baby. It's eggs. It's bagels. It's for Ruby.
Starting point is 00:22:03 He, oh, my God, this kid is a berry machine. Oh, he, in his, just like his papa. He loves, loves a blueberry. Inhales them. A raspberry. A watermelon. This kid is a fruit king. And those eggs, I'm very proud of him.
Starting point is 00:22:18 He's a B.H., thank God, a great eater. Great eater. He's a good. He's a good. What, and now, if he wasn't like, I would think, you know, and genetic, it's interesting. Like, my kids are good eaters and Max definitely is probably the one who eats most like me. But then like, you know, shy and Meyer, these two little swell, like, it's crazy. And I don't, how would you feel if Rubin wasn't a great eater?
Starting point is 00:22:48 It's funny. When I said good eater, yes, he eats great volume, but I also meant he's a cautious eater, which I've been around other kids that. aren't necessarily. I don't know if it's the norm. I don't know how your kids were, but like he was never like really intentionally scaring me that I think he's going to choke on something just by taking something that's way too big
Starting point is 00:23:09 and trying to swallow it. He never did that. B.H, thank God. He was very cautious. He would see like he'd work through something. If it was too big, I would watch him spit it out. And so that's really what I've had by good.
Starting point is 00:23:24 But if he like wasn't hungry, I'd look at it. inward. Am I not making him something delicious? Am I not making him something good enough? Right. Do I need to put a little, a little something, a little dash, something in that yogurt, so it's not just so plain? I love putting, you know, those like pouches, the once upon a farm. I do a little drizzle of that in the, in the yogurt. Love us that. Makes a nice and fruity. Nice and fruity. This episode of the Good Guys podcast is brought to you by our friends at Tumble.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Let me walk you through a situation. You have a beautiful dog. Maybe his name is Romeo. Maybe he went outside in the yard, rolled around in a bunch of deer poo, ran into your house and got it all over the rug. Oh my God, you'd probably be freaking out because he didn't have Tumble.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Before Tumble, I felt like I was constantly on my hands and knees scrubbing stains out of the rugs. And if my wife heard that, she said that that was her. No, it's true. It really is her. And even when you finally get a standout, does the rug ever really look the same again? I think it does, but she doesn't, okay? She has an eye for these things.
Starting point is 00:24:33 She sees it. She's like a hawk. Most drugs are either too delicate to wash or just a nightmare to clean and tumble. Put in my travel pack because that's my favorite. Shake it up, drink it. And oh, my God, I'm making like the most glorious poop of my life.
Starting point is 00:25:55 within the hour. It's so good for your gut. It gives me the sustained energy. I love it. And AG1 is already the standard for daily foundational nutrition, but are we aware of AG1 pro? Okay? It's what's next built for the people who don't stop there. We're talking creatine. Folks, I highly recommend AG1 next gen. I highly recommend AG1 Pro. All of their stuff, it's fantastic, and it helps you build a routine.
Starting point is 00:26:35 The best part about it, honestly, is that it's gotten me to drink water before I have coffee. Every morning I wake up, I have my water with my AG1, then 30 minutes later I have my coffee. If I start with coffee, oh my God, I'm jittery for the whole day. It's a routine. Starting point is 00:27:07 I have a bunch of recipes for him. We do these zucchini sticks. I think if you have a, honestly, the kids up to four or five years old like this recipe. It is zucchini and chicken sticks. They're basically meatballs. but you flatten them out on a tray and you cut them into strips. You cook them at 400 degrees for 20 minutes
Starting point is 00:27:26 and it's ground chicken, zucchini, breadcrumbs. You can throw in some carrots too if you want to. You don't need salt, pepper, none of it. It's just plain. And it cooks. You spray down a little avocado oil. It's phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:27:39 That sounds great. I know. And it's great and they hold it like sticks. You should make it from higher. I love it. Listen, I have, you know what I've noticed in this big fat,
Starting point is 00:27:50 country of our big fat fat country is that i can primarily order from the kids menu and it's the appropriate serving yeah right yes yes in my in my g lp1 era in my row era let me tell you i am mortified of the portions i once ate yeah thinking that they were real portions it's it's it's disgusting. It really is. And I totally blame, totally blame Chinese food. I completely blame Chinese food. Nothing but they condition you to eat so much of it. They give you those containers. Have you ever, if you've never taken a container and dumped it out on a plate, you are doing yourself a disservice because you do not realize how much food is in that fucking container. It is so much food.
Starting point is 00:28:54 But when you're eating it mindlessly out of the container, it just feels like a portion, right? But if you were to dump that on a plate, you would realize it's for six people. Do you think that maybe that's their way of, of, you know, slowly sabotaging America or the portion sizes and how we're conditioned? Because I think, like,
Starting point is 00:29:15 I think Nutella is it. is COVID. It's funny. It's so delicious. It's too good. It's too good. I think that the problem is in Italy, they understand portion control and they can have a little Nutella.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Oh, it's so good. And here we don't. So they bring over, we import these fantastic foods. We bring over these delicious. And we don't know how to fucking eat. We have no portion control as a nation. We're just pushing it out, pushing it out, pushing it out.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Even I think about the volume free refills of Diet Coke I can go through. I'm drinking leaders. Oh, well, yeah. And it's just like, it's just the sheer volume. So yeah, I don't know if it's intentional. I think the portions are probably intentional. I don't know who's up to it and why. But one day, Josh, we'll get to the bottom of it.
Starting point is 00:30:12 We'll do an expose. Okay. Do an expose on portions. But what do you think about this? You don't know this, but when we first talked about it, I cut it out of the earlier episode because I didn't think I talked about it correctly. So act like you've never heard this before. But I've got good, good news for you, Ben. Your boys now on two antidepressants.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Ooh, okay. Good, I think. Booge. Good, I think. Is that good? We'll see. No, it's great. You know, you got to get down.
Starting point is 00:30:48 You got to get up to get down, my boy. You know, you take one to cancel out the side effects of the other. But what I have found, basically, and I don't care, I'll talk about it. So for the last couple of years, I've been taking Well, Butrin, and it's been well, great and well, beautiful. And it was really helpful. And I remember specifically, like 15 years ago, and I don't think she'd mind me saying it, my mom started taking Wellbutrin. And I remember a couple years into it, I looked at her and I was like,
Starting point is 00:31:22 I kind of wish she had been taking this your whole life. And she was like, Josh, I wish I had been taking this my whole life. And a couple years ago when I felt like I was sort of burned out and I talked to my shrink about it and they were like, you know, if it works well for your mom, there's certainly a chance it'll work well for you. So try it. And I did. And it was helpful. And then like we talked about maybe.
Starting point is 00:31:46 in the last episode, I never thought I suffered from anxiety because I thought that was like some Gen Z social anxiety thing. You know, like, I just attributed it to the inability in which to like have social interaction or feeling, you know, afraid to give a public speech or, you know, deadlines or what these things.
Starting point is 00:32:10 I'm like, I don't have that. Like, I certainly don't have that. But I wound up taking a quiz online and it talked about rumination, ruminating thoughts, obsessive thoughts that you can't get out of your mind. I'm like, oh, I've had that only forever. And they were like, that's anxiety, dog.
Starting point is 00:32:29 So I want to take a little Lexi P, a little Lexi P, I'm not Alexa amateur, I'm Alexa pro. And it really helps with anxiety. And here's what I've noticed. I have found that I have lost. I have lost a couple LBs on the old Lex because, and I've noticed, I was really eating out of anxiety, only my entire life.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Yeah, nervous eating. Do you find that? I mean, I can't believe it. So I, I, I don't, and I am in full support of them and of you taking them, I don't take any of those things, but I can certainly say, with certainty that for a very long time, it comes peaks, waves, whatever, I've definitely had anxiety.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Tons of it. Tons of it. And it can be crippling. And you can, you feel it. And I definitely think at times I've been an anxious eater. I've been a mindless eater.
Starting point is 00:33:30 The same thing you were just talking about, your mind's racing. You don't know what you're, you're focusing on. It's, the best example I can give is I'll walk into a grocery store. And I'll go in there specifically to shop a list. But I'll be on the phone with you.
Starting point is 00:33:47 I will walk around that entire grocery store and I will leave that grocery store, never having shopped for groceries. And that is, it's like, it's, and then this like panic ensues. Like, I can't believe that I just did that. And then you go back into the grocery store and you start shopping for your items. And it's just like this, like, it's like a manic state. You're sitting there. You're watching.
Starting point is 00:34:11 You're driving. You don't know where you're driving to. All of a sudden you're eating. You're constantly eating. eating you're you finished a bag of chips you're like where the fuck did it even go i get it i get it after my my surgery and i mean 2011 i had the worst anxiety of my life right i had those couple of fainting spells they found the spinal fluid in my back but it never went away i've i was always left with this like i spoke about it on the last episode feeling a heartbeat like terrible physical anxiety
Starting point is 00:34:36 where you thought that you were going to die and i never i never did anything about it i sort of learned to like work with it again i think that there are so many different ways it's great if you can. It's also maybe better if you deal with it with drugs. I have no idea. I just know what's worked for me. But I can say certain, with certainty, I know anxiety.
Starting point is 00:34:57 And it fucking sucks. It fucking sucks. And it definitely contributes to wake in, no question. Yeah, I just, I think there's a part of it. Like, whereas in a pro, in a wonderful way, working out, right, hey, you get that flood of good endorphins and good feeling chemicals, but you also exhaust yourself so you cannot give as much energy to the rumination
Starting point is 00:35:18 and to the worrying and the nervousness. One thing that I will say, because I know you're a huge coffee drinker, and I'm not asking you to give up coffee, I can tell you that for me, caffeine was an enormous anxiety trigger for me. When I was drinking my 600 milligrams of Starbucks in the morning, my biggest anxious flare-ups, and it's, there's a bigger word than, stupid. It's so stupid that I didn't realize it, but I would be so unbelievably anxious, jumbled,
Starting point is 00:35:52 not feeling myself from 8 a.m. until I felt that crash at 1. And then at 1 o'clock, I would sort of return to myself. I'd be tired, but like I wouldn't be as, caffeine was a massive trigger for me, massive. And since reducing my caffeine, my anxiety has been better. And when I forget that and I'm tired and I just have a shot of espresso, I'm like an anxious jumping jelly baby. But you still drink coffee. You drink your hazelnut brew in the morning. I do.
Starting point is 00:36:22 I can manage under 200 milligrams. Yeah. If I get, if I have like a, if I have a big fucking coffee like all at once or an energy drink for me, the energy drinks just, I think they, different people feel differently about them. Like if I have a Celsius, I'm fine. If I have a Red Bull, I'm not fine. I don't know if there's like different, uh, types of caffeine in. these things. I feel differently from a Celsius than I do from a coffee. But if I have just a standard coffee, I'm totally fine. If I overdo it, have a bunch of shots. I'm all hopped up.
Starting point is 00:36:53 I'm anxious as fuck. Because the poison's in the dose, Poppy, 600 milligrams in one shot. That's like three pre-workouts, dog. You were, yeah, you're going hard body karate. It was killing me. Yikes, 600 milligrams. I mean, me and Mohammed, we don't even go over 200 in our pre-workout and we do it off of each other's chest. Starting point is 00:40:20 Yes, I do. God, I'm so happy to hear that. I absolutely have good or eight more on mail. If you want to leave us more on mail, my dear friends, guys and gals, you go write us an email, Good Guys, Podcast 1 at gmail.com.
Starting point is 00:40:34 We will absolutely read them aloud. They have been fantastic. And don't stop sending them to us. All right. More on a male. Have I become the neighborhood ATM? Josh, Ben, I need to know, am I crazy or have I accidentally become the neighborhood ATM? My neighbors are an older Southern woman and her adult kids around my age. Over the years, they've asked me to help with everything. Yard work, breaker boxes, ceiling fans, moving furniture, and honestly, I love helping. I like feeling needed. Mind you, I'm married, a father of three, and we run three businesses, so it's not like.
Starting point is 00:41:11 like I'm sitting around looking for things to do. But I digress recently, though, the favors have turned into borrowing money and it's a coming frequent. They always pay me back and were fortunate enough that I'm happy to help with and somebody needs it. But the mom and son have even asked me for money on the same day, neither realizing the other already had. The final straw at 10 p.m.
Starting point is 00:41:32 The son texted asking to borrow 15 bucks, promising me 20 the next day. I had it. I said I didn't. I had enough. His response, okay, that's fine. I was just trying to get some coffee. That's all. Coffee.
Starting point is 00:41:42 You're hitting up your neighbor at 10 p.m. for $15 coffee loan. So, guys, am I the moron for being annoyed when they always pay me back? Or have I officially become the neighborhood ATM and it's time to close the bank? Thanks, Ryan. Close that bank, big dog? Yeah. What?
Starting point is 00:41:58 Your neighbors are mistaking kindness for weakness. It's a classic case. Sometimes, which I think I'm guilty of this too. Sometimes when you're open to doing favors for people, you are like a what Claudia loves to say like I have a high level for torture and she is a low level for torture like these like I don't mind you need to ride you're the same way Josh like you need to ride somewhere I'll drive you there I don't care if it's out of my way it doesn't matter like whatever like I I'm here to please people please her and so
Starting point is 00:42:32 if somebody comes to me and they're like can I have 15 bucks for coffee of course of course of course of course, yeah, if it becomes incestined and it's bothering you, then they're mistaking your kindness for weakness and it's too much. I think you need to go to them and I think you need to say, look, I love you. I love doing this for you. It's becoming too much for me. I feel taken advantage of. And did you really need a coffee at 10 p.m.? You have to come to me 15 bucks at 10 o'clock at night for something so superfluous. Like, what does that even mean? And what coffee costs fucking $15, Ryan? What are you talking about? Right. No, no. So it's no good. It's no good. You want another one? I do. I just have to say, if you're ever going to give someone money, it's always a gift. You can never expect it back from them.
Starting point is 00:43:20 And that's the same going for $10,000 to $10,000. Just give it as a gift. It is what it is. But I also don't trust people when they say what the money's for. Almost never. Like, this is for diapers. I'm like, you're doing a pretty, free by of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Don't lie to me. This isn't for huggies. Okay? This is going to rock star games, which by the way, Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming out this year and I cannot wait. And I haven't played a video game in 20 years, but I am in the excitement. Do you know that they're doing? Do you still have a system?
Starting point is 00:43:56 No, Xbox. What's good? I'm saying, do you have it? Oh, yeah, you don't. Okay. I still have. I have a PS5. I haven't turned it on in four years. You have a PS5? But I have it. yeah Claudia got it for me for like for Hanukkah one year fucking sick I have an incredible wife
Starting point is 00:44:14 and you didn't play it you want to come over and play yes no I play no I no I certainly played it I just don't play it anymore but at one point I played it for sure I want to get I want to go I want to come over to your house want to get a dominoes and a bread sticks I want to sit in your living room on the floor yeah um crisscross applesauce I want to play fiefel with you with our shirts off and then I want to oh my god and then I want to lay in twin beds and why watch something dirty with you as we fall asleep and feel uncomfortable. Spice Channel. Yes.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Yes. Robin Bird. Yeah, we're going to watch Robin Bird. That's sick funny. Oh, my God, Robin Bird on three. Okay. All right. Warning.
Starting point is 00:45:01 I have not read this one through. It's long, but I like the subject. Big family drama. Who's the asshole here? This all started with a PTA fundraiser and somehow ended with my sister and I not speaking. New Orleans has been my number one U.S. travel destination for at least 15 years. Two years ago, my sister, who is the maid of honor, missed my bridal shower because she had a PTA fundraiser for her kids' school. As a consolation, she promised that my mom, her, and I would take a trip to New Orleans together.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Because of unforeseen circumstances involving my medically complicated pet, I haven't been able to travel much at all of over the past two years, so that trip still hasn't happened. Then last year, my sister went to Mardi Gras and New Orleans with friends. I understood that she was allowed to take the trip with friends, but my mom was understandably her because New Orleans was something that the three of us were supposed to experience together. Now, this fall, my mom booked another New Orleans trip with my sister. My sister was actually the one who pushed for New Orleans,
Starting point is 00:45:59 even though my mom was originally wanting to go to Vegas. I was technically invited, but the trip falls during the first month of the school year, when taking off time as a teacher is extremely difficult, and would be incredibly stressful. More importantly, the trip was sprung on me. Literally the day my mom had to confirm it through her timeshare. We're almost there. Only four more paragraphs.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Before my mom booked it, I told her very clearly that if she went ahead with New Orleans under these circumstances, I would feel incredibly hurt. I told her it would feel like a huge slap in the face, considering the entire reason this trip was promised in the first place was because of me. She booked it anyways, all to appease my sister. And that's why I'm upset. I understand that I was technically invited, and I'm not saying my mom and sister aren't allowed to take a trip together,
Starting point is 00:46:42 but they could have chosen literally any other city in the country. New Orleans wasn't some random vacation destination for me. It was a promise my sister made after missing my bridal shower, something I had been looking forward to for years, and something I haven't been able to do because of circumstances completely out of my control. I told them I was hurt by the decision, and now my sister isn't speaking to me at all. She says, I ruined her vacation. So am I in the wrong for being upset? Should they still go on the trip? and who is actually in the wrong here.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Side note, my sister still feels like it's not a big deal that she missed my bridal showers and made of honor because of the PTA fundraiser was super important and thinks I should, quote, get over it already. Wow. I would say that there are, people can be shitty and not necessarily wrong, if that makes sense. Like, I don't see a massive issue with them taking this trip, but I understand why it's hurtful and it's shitty.
Starting point is 00:47:32 It's not considerate. But is it like a, a, of all betrayals. I'm not sure. I feel the same way about the bridal shower, Josh. It's not nice. It's not the wedding. Right. It's not like you're made of honor. It's not the bachelorette party. It's the bridal shower. Like I I know that it was important to you, but you do strike me. Again, two things can be true. They can like be not considering your feelings and I do, you do strike me as a sensitive person. So they should consider your feelings. But at the same time, I do think that you seem to be holding on to anger that you don't need to hold on to. She missed your bridal shower.
Starting point is 00:48:12 You would have told me if she missed your wedding. You would have told me if she missed these other big things. She missed it because she had something, right? And the same exact way that you're saying that you wish that they didn't put their New Orleans trip at the beginning of the school year, because it was inconvenient for you as a teacher, you could have moved your bridal shower to a day that wasn't the PTA conference. She had something that was important to her, and she missed it. You could have moved it, and she probably could have been there, but you chose not to. So I think you're harboring resentment over something that you don't need to and you should just let it go.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Absolutely. Should we get to Woody and Nuts? We should. Our Woody Nuts moment of the week is our gripes with people, places, and things, both big and tall, whatever, sticking in your craw. Josh, you got one? Recently, I was on a road trip and I passed a sign for the Michael Jackson Equestrian Center. What are you nuts? what does Michael Jackson have to do with horses?
Starting point is 00:49:05 What the fuck? It has to be a different Michael Jackson. Maybe. He can't be the same guy. I don't know. They seem very proud. I was like, what is the Michael Jackson equestrian center? That is hysterical.
Starting point is 00:49:21 It has to be a different Michael Jackson. That's nuts and so funny. My wedding in that moment is doorman trusting a confident walker. We've all seen it before, Josh. You're a doorman. Your goal is to protect the building and make sure that everybody coming in and out, you know exactly who they are. Just because they walk with a confident strut doesn't mean that they don't have a freaking gun in their back pocket.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Doesn't mean that they're not strapped to the gods. Don't trust a confident walker. Just because they know where they're going, they probably scouted the building. It gives me the hebi-jeebies about the whole building. I don't know if you agree, but you see people just walking in and out of building. There's no scan passes. They're just getting in elevators. The door man's just like, oh, yeah, must be.
Starting point is 00:50:05 No. Check them. Check them. Otherwise, why do you have doormen at all? You don't need doormen. If you're not going to do anything, you don't need them. Leave the doors open. Fuck it.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Who cares? But if you have them, don't trust a competent stretch, Josh. So true. Don't trust it. Folks, this episode's five stars. Otherwise, what are you nuts? Listen to us wherever you get your podcasts. Watch us on Spotify.
Starting point is 00:50:28 It's absolutely fantastic. Mondays and Thursdays, folks, we will see you next time. Baruchashem. Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life? You know, the same way you can skip an ad? I get it. I'm Siyaya and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned.
Starting point is 00:51:02 And today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better. Apparently, that's how I roll. So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride. Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem.
