Even with just 10 listeners a month. If you've been thinking about starting a podcast, this is your Start free at RSS.com. Hey, everybody. Welcome to Good News, York. I'm your host, Matt Meager, founder of Growth Mode Technologies,
Starting point is 00:01:20 joined by my teal-shirted friend, Mike. I don't know, what, sea foam? Seafone. No, yeah, I think you're right. It's like a mint, maybe a seafone. You can tell them I'm an adult because I know colors other than green at this point. I am not. I almost feel like a failure.
Starting point is 00:01:36 The founder of Growth Mode, by the way. You are. I'm not. I am. You are. Matt, this is exciting because this is the first time we're doing like a new official thing. It's Tuesday Newsday. We don't have a thing yet.
Starting point is 00:01:49 Yeah, we will. We will. We don't like a. Insert jingle here. Oh, yeah, shout out to our producer, Danny Tripote. He did say that he was going to, uh, we got, we need like a dun-d-d-d-d-dun. Oh, we're going to put together. You know, some cool stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Breaking new. Now here's the thing. If you only watch our clips. Right. on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, all those. They're great. We take the, you know, we take the great bits. We boil it down to 30, 90 seconds of something interesting as you're scrolling.
Starting point is 00:02:21 But the cool things that we do, like these intros and these like traditional kind of show things, you're only going to get that if you check out the entire podcast. Which is streaming now. You can subscribe on. Everywhere. Yeah. Literally, I mean, anywhere there's a podcast. What is it? I heart, Spotify.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Literally anywhere you get a podcast. But, yeah, Apple Podcasts. It used to be iTunes now with Apple Podcasts. There you go. All the other random directories, little podcast apps. If you've got it, we are cool. Look for Good News York and you will find it. Including on YouTube, YouTube now has a dedicated podcast feed.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Yes. And it really is just our videos. But it's the full episodes in a playlist. Changes every day as we add new episodes. So if you subscribe. you'll always get the latest one. And if you, you know, subscribe on the traditional audio podcast platforms, the Apple, the Spotify, you probably already know that you can do that. And then you can listen to us on the car and your drives or torture your children on family trips with us.
Starting point is 00:03:24 You know, it's a good thing. The whole thing. And not that I hadn't really planned to talk about this, but since we're on that topic, I do want to say, fellas, this is episode, what did we say it was? 26. 26. 90 plus percent of podcasts do not make it to episode 20. Fuck, yes. So we're in the 10 percent trial or is it the other way.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Less. You know, we are in the ultra minority. Now, the next level is 90 plus percent don't make it to episode 100. So I do want to give a shout out to another local podcast, living local 315. They've been around a long time. I don't know them personally, but we've. We've been seeing them around. And I noticed that they just hit their 200th episode.
Starting point is 00:04:09 No kidding. That's amazing. It is. And hat tip to them. I love seeing people make content. Absolutely. Especially here in New York. The whole reason we're here is to really show off what's spectacular about it.
Starting point is 00:04:23 So many great things. One thing I love too that made me want to be part of this even more is that you said from the jump, you were like, and by the way, this isn't just about Central New York. This is about the Adirondacks. This is about the Mohawk Valley. This is about western New York. Southern tier. New York City.
Starting point is 00:04:41 100%. To me, that is such an important part of this because I feel like it's New York City and then the rest of the state. It's like you hear news all about New York metro area or this imaginary place upstate where there's only like 10 people. That's what they think at least. And I love that we're just, we are just including everybody. I like expanding the definition of local by just a little bit, right? A lot of people think local. They think your hometown, maybe your county, your kind of region.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And I get that. That makes a lot of sense. That's where we all spend the most of our time. It's what we talk about the most. Okay. But our state family, you know, when you look at the grand scheme of things of the world, even just to expand to New York State, it's still such a tiny corner of the world. And for us to really embrace all of it is something I'd love to do that.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Which, by the way, let's. They're our resources. Let's non-politically virtual gerrymander right now. I want to ask me, this is not political. Okay. Because I'm very curious to what, I trust you more than anybody on this. When you hear upstate New York, give me the, give me it. We're going into the what is upstate?
Starting point is 00:05:54 Yeah, come on. This is the most controversial topic in the entire Empire State. It shouldn't be, though. I agree with you. So my stance, upstate is. everything north of Poughkeepsie. I love it. It's that simple.
Starting point is 00:06:08 And you're including like Buffalo, like West. Everything north, yep. Everything north of Poughkeepsie and South New York, City, Long Island, whatever, downstate, everything above it upstate. I'm going to tell you something. That actually checks out, and I'll tell you why.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Because when I lived in the Mohawk Valley before I moved away to Ithaca, shout out, Ithaca, love you. I would take the metro north into the city and back. The absolute first or last, depending on which way you're coming. Stop is the Poughkeepsie train station. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:37 That's the start of the metro. That's it. So that actually checks out, bud. I was ready to ridicule you. It is like the checkpoint, I feel like. Yeah. You know, into the city or not. You want to hear a funny story about Poughkeepsie real?
Starting point is 00:06:51 Sure. My band played at the Chance Theater, which was actually was a really popular venue for a long time back in the day. Describe how you get there. Because I want to know if this is a place that I've asked you. the chance theater, you mean like literally like direction. Was it like down like a cobblestone road? For some reason, I remember something like that.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Like it was almost like this isn't a road we're driving on. No, it was like a main street. Okay. Of sorts. There's other local. But it's a theater. Yeah, it's a theater. With a balcony.
Starting point is 00:07:19 With a balcony. Yep. It's got to be the same place. I mean, I saw a guar there. Dude, shut the, that's what this story's about. If we were there at the same- We were at the same- I'm going to shit my pants.
Starting point is 00:07:31 This is real, by the way. Wait, wait, what? When? Now, hold on, when? I don't know. Wait, you started out with your band. Did you open for them or something? No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Okay. Wow. My head's about to explode. This is going in a whole different direction. This is crazy. I swear to God, this is not staged. Yeah, what? I am being completely genuine.
Starting point is 00:07:49 So the story is, so we got booked for this battle of the bands, and we're at the chance theater. Here's the funny part. We get there, we realize we're not playing the chance. I got excited. I thought we were. Oh. There's like an area up at the,
Starting point is 00:08:03 top of the theater where it's a small room where they have smaller bands play. Interesting. So we're technically in the same doors. All right. You know what I mean? Whatever. So before we go on, as I always do, I like to poke around. And I went into the chance theater and I was like, this is so fucking cool.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Like this is a, this is a nice venue. Yeah. In a not so nice area. I mean, you know, there's some tough parts of Poughkeepsie. And so then we walked downstairs and we wanted to go into the bar for a drink and the door was locked. and I look in. It was a glass door
Starting point is 00:08:34 and I'm like, what the hell? I'm like, what is going on? There was a music video being shot and it was Guar. Guar was in full costume. There were like cinema cameras moving around, chicks dressed up. I think they were supposed to be strippers
Starting point is 00:08:47 and the door was locked because they were shooting a music video. Come to find out, Guar was playing at the chance that night. Tell me you were fucking there. I had to. When was this? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:59 I guess it would have to be 2011, 10, 12? That would have been for. I don't know. If I knew this was going to go this way, I would have done the work beforehand. So, okay, now that I think about it. So here's the only reason I know when it was. I mean, they probably played there more than one.
Starting point is 00:09:18 This was right before Malachi was born for me. Okay. So that was 2001. Oh, no, no, no. That's way too early. Yeah. Okay. So it wasn't the same night.
Starting point is 00:09:29 So it wasn't the same. But it had to have been the same place. Man, I got excited. Because this is the best time. The only time I've ever seen a show in Poughkeepsie was to see Guar. You blew my head open because, first of all, I just go, you want to hear a funny story? And then suddenly I talk about the chance. Is that the only band they book?
Starting point is 00:09:48 Maybe that's it. Maybe. I was it the only way. Wait a minute. Wouldn't that be so Guar if they had a residency, but the residency was in Pekipsey, New York instead of like Vegas? It's true. Well, either way, the story was, it was just amazing that I got to like accidentally almost walk into a, the Guar music video.
Starting point is 00:10:02 When I was there, they brought a John Bonae Ramsey doll on stage. That is awful. Yeah. Yeah. Can you say the rest or maybe not? It was pretty gross. Yeah, they, yeah. One of your favorite movies, Empire Records, there's a very famous part with Guar in it.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Hey, Mark, you love Guar. Why don't you join the band? Yeah. It's one of my favorites. It's one of the reasons I like Guar, honestly. And one of the reasons you eat pop brownies. They put on a hell of a hell of a show, though. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Yeah. It's the kiss effect, right? It's like the music, with all due respect, the music is secondary to the show itself. Right? Yes, but it's, not to be the bad. Here's the thing, it's the kiss effect in terms of, like, the outfit, because Guar, if you've ever seen Guar, they get their,
Starting point is 00:10:47 they're this, like, demon metal band in full demon costumes, right? Do it. And these characters and all this stuff. But, yeah, they are the wildest fucking band ever. And they get crazy with the crowd. And here's what got really wild. is they have, now I heard about this before we went, they have blood cannons they go, right?
Starting point is 00:11:07 So the difference they shoot like fake liquid blood into the crowd. Don't they take penises? They had everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's what I'm getting to is it's literally any, no, no, any liquid you can or probably shouldn't imagine. They have a fake, like, cannon that they shoot into the crowd. So it's all different colors.
Starting point is 00:11:24 And when you leave a guar show, if you were where we were towards, on the floor where you're getting hit by all this shit, you come out tie-dye, literally like, because of all the- get covered in every different color. But I would assume you, if you're a true Guariff, I would assume you want that. You don't leave going, oh, man, this is my favorite.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Like, you get to say, like, I got squir. It was one of those deals where it was almost like, what's his name? Gallagher. Gallagher. That's what I was just going to ask you. Where the balcony, they had plastic that they could hold up if they didn't want to get sprayed up in the higher level.
Starting point is 00:11:53 That was my next question is the front couple rows like Gallagher show. Well, it was like a pit, you know, so you had the floor and you had, you know, people mosh in or just standing or whatever and just getting covered in. Guar juice. Sidebar along these lines. You went to school with the boys from Showtime. Very good friends of both of ours. I was in their band.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Love them. Did you ever hear about their experience with Gallagher? It is wild. No. I'm not going to tell it. We'll have to have them on. Is this when Gallagher lived in Alien? Correct.
Starting point is 00:12:22 He came. I forget why. He came, I'm pretty sure. He did like a Bill Keeler episode. He did a Bill Keeler episode. And he didn't leave town for two months. That's correct. part of this story. This is like a real thing.
Starting point is 00:12:34 No, no, no, no. I know. So he does a show, like you said, I believe it was just like a fat half. Local radio show. But he comes on the local real estate. And I believe, and again, I don't want to tell the story because I don't know all the details. But the boys from Showtime, I think were on that same episode, kind of hit it off of Gallagher. And Gallagher was like, hey, when do you guys
Starting point is 00:12:54 rehearse? And they're like, we rehearsed Tuesday nights at the, you know, at a place in Illinois in New York. I don't want to say it. And he's like, can I stop by it? I've got some lyrics of like, I write lyrics, and they're like, okay, sure. And Gallagher showed up to their rehearsal. He stuck around for days, and his lyrics would got off. He, like, couch-surfed.
Starting point is 00:13:14 He, like, stayed in local pieces of people's homes. Look it up. They did a story on it. I don't know if Syracuse.com or whatever. But anyway, long story short, and we'll have to have these guys on to tell it because it's amazing. He stuck around for, like, two weeks and kept showing up to their rehearsals and got mad at them when they wouldn't, like, accommodate him to play his song. It's wild, dude.
Starting point is 00:13:34 It's wilder than I'm... Put a pin in that one, because we've got to come back to that. We haven't even got to the news. We haven't even... Not even being in. I don't even want to do these. Dude, who would have thought when we hit... When we said, let's go on, that we'd be talking about Guar and Gallup.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Hey, let's go. This is why podcasts are awesome, and you should subscribe to Good News, York. You should just subscribe to us. All right, you want to hear some news? Please. Let me tell you some news. From actual, current news, even. Not from 20 years ago.

Starting point is 00:15:05 Start free at RSS.com. All right. You know, we keep bringing up... He's got paperwork. Oh, yes. You know what's serious when he's got paperwork? Well, I figured... Yeah, he's like a real anchor.
Starting point is 00:15:15 I don't know about that. I'm no Bill Warden. A little shout out for your local. Well, yeah, with the news, I got to have it. So this is, you know, we keep talking about this micron thing, and it's a huge deal. They're saying it's probably the biggest thing since the Erie Canal, and that's not a joke. It's going to be incredible for the economy here. But that's not all because the Greek yogurt giant Chabani
Starting point is 00:15:36 is planning to build a $1.2 billion production facility that would bring more than 1,000 jobs to Rome's Griffiths Business and Technology Park. To Rome. Yeah. And the project is in the former Air Force Base 50 miles east of here in Syracuse, New York. Did you know, or actually, I'm sorry, it's going to cement New York as the number one yogurt producer after that, which I think is...
Starting point is 00:15:59 I mean, if you're going to be good for something, it might as well be yogurt. It might as well be yogurt. Here's the thing. That base, you know, as you know, when we were kids, they closed it as an official Air Force base. And, you know, lots of jobs went away and things like that. In the recent years, though, they've been working hard at bringing all kinds of things. And there's a number of really incredible high-tech companies of all sorts now being based at the former base. And there's a lot of the facilities that are.
Starting point is 00:16:29 originally there from the Air Force that are available and able to be, you know, kind of remodeled and repurposed. So it's exciting to see that. It really is. Chibani is a company that's been in New York for a little while here. They've had a great presence, I believe, closer to you, right? Yeah, actually, it's funny you say that. Southern Tier? Right here, it says the governor said Chabani has been a major employer in the Mohawk Valley for decades,
Starting point is 00:16:56 and this investment is going to bring more than 1,000 jobs. Here's another thing that I found amazing is that once the new plant reaches full capacity, the company is going to purchase an estimated 6 billion pounds of milk a year, creating additional economic opportunity. Did you know that dairy is the largest single segment of the state's $8 billion agricultural industry? You know, the number of times that I've been to the dairy barn at the state fair, you think I would know that. You think I would know that. But, you know, Chibani is a company that is also very well known for treating people well. They're very popular with their employees and things of all that nature. So it's pretty awesome to see them expand, especially in Rome.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Shout out to Oneida County all along the Thruway. And as we talk about these things, all along the Thruway, we are hearing these announcements. That's not even the only one. Do you know, I have another one? I don't think I even gave you this. Wait, wait. Before you do that, I got to ask you one quick one. Oh, shit, okay.
Starting point is 00:17:53 Do you know the difference between Greek yogurt and regular yogurt? I have, I assumed one was. I was going to ask you. and then at the last second of the article I saw one of the last lines says, Greek yogurt is strained of excess way, giving it a thicker texture than regular yogurt. I guess I didn't need to read that.
Starting point is 00:18:10 It's kind of bold. It's thick. I didn't know what the difference. It's thick like Guards. People love it. All right, go ahead. What do you got? I don't know you got it.
Starting point is 00:18:17 That's why I feel like that's become all the rage compared to what was kind of traditional yogurt that was a whole new world. My wife is. They figure out a better way to do it. Those Greeks. Our man Ryan McMahon, to date the only politician who we have embarrassed at a ballpark. That's correct.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Shared the news yesterday that here in our own Onondaga County, United Auto Supply is expanding their operation out in Gettys. 19 million they are going to put into their existing operation and create 65 new jobs. They currently have 433 people on site. What? Every day in New York's. state, we are getting these reports of new, mostly manufacturing operations. Today's situation in both cases, expanding, not even new businesses, established New York businesses, continuing to grow and expand here in New York State. And it's a story that, unfortunately, I think you're going to get
Starting point is 00:19:14 sick of hearing as we're doing the news here because there is so much of it. You know, when you told me we were going to start Good News York, and it's going to be the positive things happening in New York State, my first thought, and I'm sure it was your was, yeah, good luck. Where are we going to find all this shit? Because we're buried in negative news all the time. Dude, when we just started actually including news into Good News York, this Tuesday Newsday, and I'm combing through,
Starting point is 00:19:41 there's a lot of good shit happening. A lot. And, you know, we can all joke about, oh, yeah, upstate New York. Dude, it's not really something you can joke about it anymore. This Mike Ron thing, the Chabani thing. How about this one? Ground Round is coming back, boy. Now.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Now, hold on, hold on. Before we get too excited. You go. Before we get too excited. And let you go. It hasn't been announced that the new ground round is opening in New York State yet. But there is a couple in Massachusetts that is bringing it back. They've cranked open their first location.
Starting point is 00:20:17 I almost did fake news. And no, no, their goal is to expand. But right now the first location is open in Massachusetts, if you want to. Want to take a road? We might actually have to take a road trip. Good news, Matt. To go to the ground round. But have they broke ground round round?
Starting point is 00:20:32 Here's the thing. They're bringing back all the classics of ground ground. Including. Playing all the hits. Pay what you weigh. You remember pay what you weigh? Way, dude. That is wild to do in 2025.
Starting point is 00:20:46 You know, it was, I remember when I was a little kid, you used to go there on the certain night a week or something. And as the kid, you stand on the scale and pay what you weigh. Now, I was a fat kid. So it was probably a better deal for my mom. to pay market price, but... That's fantastic. It was a great promotion.
Starting point is 00:21:03 It was a fat kid. Well, listen. It's probably, I got to say, it's, as you mentioned, you know, these old restaurants and things like that that used to be around or gone, people miss. Ground around on the top of everyone's list. And I think Pondo is the next, like... It depends on if you want table, service, or buffet. That's where which one comes first. I miss Ponderosa.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Honduras and Herkimer, bro. That's what I'm talking about. That's where I lived. Yeah. That was, you got to remember, this is, you know, mid-90s, okay? The thought of an all-you-can-eat buffet, like, what? And I don't know what it is. With chicken wings on it.
Starting point is 00:21:42 I experienced this the other day. Easter Sunday, my wife's family, we have a tradition. You can actually go to the Cornell dining hall. It sounds funny, but it's open to the public all the time. Okay. And my gut, you got to remember, the Statler, hotel is the hotel at Cornell where the the the the statler the hotel students they have a hotel management program that's where they train so it is five-star quality food well guess what the dining
Starting point is 00:22:10 hall gets it's the same same student wow so you're getting five-star and it's like 20 bucks ahead and it was all you can eat and i said sunday said this reminds me of ponderosa when i was a kid the excitement of just going in there and going i could get Asian cuisine i could get pizza dude i could get chicken tenders. The pudding. You go there all the time with your family, but I'll tell you, the real heyday for me was when we were teenagers and when we were, you know, in our cars and figuring out our own meal had to be like, I don't know, 40% of where we went to eat was Pondo.
Starting point is 00:22:42 And the best part about Ponderosa was they had that buffet, right? And they always had that deal where for like 25 cents more, they'll give you a full steak and a baked potato. Yeah, right. And you look at it, you'd be like, how can you? Could I not buy that 79 cents steak, you know? Easy up. Like, I have to.
Starting point is 00:23:02 And it's brilliant because what happens is you eat that steak and then you don't have anything on the buffet. So they, you know, they had it all figured out. They really did. They really did. They were no ground around, but I'll tell you. Those wings, those breaded chicken wings, remember those? They're the only naked wings I've ever liked.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And for those of you, maybe tuning in that aren't native New Yorkers, especially Buffalo area, naked wings mean no sauce. Yeah. I feel like I do have to explain that. I mean, I don't. You used to be able to get them in takeout. My dad, you stored them for parties. We'd get bulk Pondo wings.
Starting point is 00:23:30 But naked wings don't taste good to me, but I'll tell you what. I agree with you. Well, they had Pondola Rosed ones. They didn't. They weren't just plenty. You know what I mean? They were mini drumsticks. They were, ugh.
Starting point is 00:23:40 They were so good. They were light tan. About Pondo. Want some more good news? Yeah. Okay. I would love that. Our friends at FX Matt Brewery, Sarenach Brewery, have secured seventh place
Starting point is 00:23:53 among the top 10 craft breweries, and 17th in the top 10 craft breweries. and 17th in the top 20 overall breweries across the nation. And these results were featured in the Brewers Association annual U.S. Craft Brewing Industry Report. And I say that. I always cite it because every time we do this, I talk about I don't put faith in these polls. Yeah, who came up with it?
Starting point is 00:24:09 It could be anybody. We could do a poll today. Yeah, but if this is an association of brewers, that's what I'm saying. That's legit. And, you know, I have nothing bad to say about Saranak Brewery except for one thing. Don't get nervous. Why would you get rid of Saranak Thursdays? That was everything.
Starting point is 00:24:26 That was everything for this area. I completely agree. Do you actually know, is it a budget thing? I'm not attacking the brewery. I'm expressing how sad I am. I don't want to get sentimental. But our man Joe Boogie, who was the king of Utica, he was the man that got the party started. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Disruption Network. He passed away and they canceled Saranac Thursdays afterwards. I don't know if they're related, but to me, I don't know that. I don't know that you could have that event without Joe around. If Joe Boogie's going to die, if Joe was here, it's going down. We might still have Serenac. Now, to be fair, they will tell you that they have changed it a bit. They do not have Serenac Thursdays, but they have a beer garden where they have events and they have bands and things in summer.
Starting point is 00:25:09 It's not the same. No, of course. It's not the same. But you know that. And for those who don't know, Saranac Thursdays was a summer concert series that they had at the brewery in Utica. and they took this back like shipping dock area and literally turned it into a concert venue. It was perfect.
Starting point is 00:25:25 It looked like, you remember? That extra space. Willie Wonka in the chocolate factory. It looked like in the part of the movie where he comes out and he fake collapses and kind of that area within the fence of the factory. That's kind of what it always was. Oh yeah, yeah, the old like brew house
Starting point is 00:25:39 and everything's been there forever. Exactly. Yeah. You know, the big smokestack. Super cool event. But as society's changed a bit. bit, right? I mean, people aren't drinking like we used to. Now, imagine that back in the day when everybody was partying hard. It was wild. On a good night, if the weather was good, they would have
Starting point is 00:25:57 between 3,000 and 5,000 people there. Easily. On a Thursday night after work. And it was awesome. Yeah. Because it started there about 5 o'clock. And I know at some point we'll find these old, my podcast career started at Saranac Thursdays with Phil Farta and I. That's a great story. At the You Should Be Here podcast. Okay. That was the name of the show. And the idea was we going to go to a bunch of different events in live broadcast. It ended up being mostly just Saranac and a couple other events. You should have been at Saranac Thursday. But we were there every week and did a great live podcast.
Starting point is 00:26:28 It was a super cool thing. And the way it worked is, you know, it started at like five. They'd have the music at the brewery and stuff like that. And they'd go to like eight or so. And that was over. But then you'd go to Verick Street, which was the entertainment area. It's right there. And all the local bars there would have live bands.
Starting point is 00:26:45 And, you know, it was a great. say hi to Rainbow, get a picture with him. Yeah, good old Rainbow. Rainbow moved to New York City. Maybe that's the other half of it. Things are bad when Rainbow is moving out, you know? I thought we were just talking about all the good things. He is a staple.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Dude, he moved to New York City, and then the next day he was in somebody's music video. Did you see that shit? No. I don't remember who it was. But I'm not surprised. Literally, they had the big announcement of these in the city, and the next thing you know, somebody's video comes out, and they go, that's rainbow in the video. Speaking of bands
Starting point is 00:27:17 We'll interview him sometime I got a very very exciting What else you got? Well, a red hot band With a famous sounding name To rock the New York State Fair The Red Hot Chili Piper's Will perform at the New York State
Starting point is 00:27:31 Shep in court stage On Wednesday August 27th At 6 p.m. Don't be fooled That took a hard left turn I know That's how I felt when I was reading it Don't be fooled by the famous name
Starting point is 00:27:43 It's not the red hot chili peppers Some fans mistakenly assumed it would be the red hot chili peppers, but in fact, it is a bagpipe group. So imagine thinking you're going to show up for flea and you get a bagpiper. You get so much better. It's like hitting the lottery. It really is. Like I showed up to see a shitty band and I got to see actual talent.

Starting point is 00:29:15 Listen, California. Listen, there's only so many songs you can sing about California, and the chili peppers surpassed that amount 18 albums ago. You know, the Under the Bridge video was the first video that ever made me want pecks. Because remember he runs in slow motion? Yeah. And his pecks are perfect in their bounce. I was like, I want those muscles.
Starting point is 00:29:35 The reason I'm telling you about that, I wouldn't do a whole thing just to say the name, is because when I read it up until I printed it out, I thought it was the chili peppers. Which leads me to... This is a public service announcement. We're going to revisit this story because I am telling you in August, people are going to show up thinking it's the chili. I know this because look what we go through with misinformation and disinformation
Starting point is 00:29:56 and people reading headlines without actually reading the article. There's going to be a huge sector of pissed off. Here's the thing. Hot take. Red hot take. If you name yourself the red hot chile pipers, you invite said confusion and should be on the hook for it. I think you do.
Starting point is 00:30:14 You know what you're doing. You know what you're doing. Here's the thing. If you're a bagpipe band that covers chili pepper songs. Fuck. Is that what they are? I didn't even read. See?
Starting point is 00:30:26 Misinformation. Then it's a valid name. But if they just went with some pun that actually, and they don't do anything else to do with the chili peppers, the jury's out. Somebody's going to have to listen to this band and tell us what the hell they actually do. We're going to have to Google there. Was this the state fair? It's going to be at the state fair free. The chili pipers.
Starting point is 00:30:42 I just want it. I want it on record. The whole reason I read this, we're going to revisit this because I promise you there's going to be a lot. We need to write this down and be there. We need to just capture that footage of the people showing up going, Chili Poppers, Jelly Popper.
Starting point is 00:30:55 And then they come out. And they come out with the horns and people like, what the fuck? What if we didn't sign up for corn? How about we don't look it up? Let's just go and like literally. You just go to the fair every day? Go there and no, I'm saying. Fuck the schedule.
Starting point is 00:31:07 We'll just wait around in Chevy Court. We'll just stand around until the fucking chili piper show up. No, I'm saying. We're the first in line, dude. Yeah, we're here first. You're the best seat. No, I'm saying let's not look them up and find out if they do chili pepper song. Let's just go and get a blind reaction.
Starting point is 00:31:24 I see. You know what I mean? Yeah. Anyway, speaking of, oh, here's a picture of them. There's lots of other great artists that you probably have been, have heard of, booked at the fair as well, right? I'm not reading it. It's actually telling me.
Starting point is 00:31:36 Actually, I will tell you there. Boiler alert. Here's some of the lineup for the New York State Fair? Yeah, yeah. Cheap Trick is common. Steve Miller Band. kids bop huh
Starting point is 00:31:44 hold on slow down what we got two out of three are great kids bop though look I thought kids bop
Starting point is 00:31:52 who performs kids bob kids oh really yeah it's like you ever hear them I thought it was adult singing clean versions
Starting point is 00:32:02 of the pop song close it's kids singing clean versions of the song but it's like a group it's a chorus of kids just going like
Starting point is 00:32:08 I don't give me a song so they're a child cover band? Kind of. Yeah. It's for the kids, man. They're legal?
Starting point is 00:32:16 I don't know. Are labor laws in this state? O-A-R. is coming. All right. And in a hard turn of events, Buster Rhymes will be there. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Herman's Hermits. No way. Sister Hazel. Hold on. Hold on. We're going to go from Busta to Herman's Hermits. Back to back, baby. Not the same day.
Starting point is 00:32:35 It's 24th, 26. What if they, like, do a duet? Imagine Buster remix in a Hermits' Hermits song? I got you all in check. How many Hermits are left? I don't know, but they're hermits. Aren't they? Can't find them.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Aren't they like, what's their hit? Oh, come on. I don't know. And I invite myself on being a music whiz. And I cannot think of one Herman's Hermit song. We know it. We got to know it. While he's looking that up, Sister Hazel, Red Hot Chili Piper.
Starting point is 00:33:07 I love Sister Hades. Maddie and Tay. Yacht Rock Review. Blippy, my son will be excited. And Shaggy is closing it out. Shaggy. Wasn't me. Wasn't me.
Starting point is 00:33:20 It wasn't me. Shaggy is the foremost expert on... That was actually pretty good. I learned more about cheating from Shaggy than really anyone else on Earth. Well, listen. All right. And while you are looking that up, we are going to play a small game. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:38 Now, this is risky. Hold on. We're going to hold for it. You still don't know who Herman's Hermits is? Okay. Oh, I'm into something. What are they going to play for the dress to the show? They're just going to play that over and over,
Starting point is 00:33:51 and then the chili pipers come out. No milk to. Lost me on that one. What if Herman's Herman's play? Is there a year just out of curiosity? Okay, that's when I was thinking. Yeah, a great year. And then the chili pipers come out with Herman's hermits,
Starting point is 00:34:08 and to cap it off, Guar comes out and squirts, fake penises all over the crowd. Now, that's a show I would go to. I'm a charge extra. That's got to be at the amp. There's only one of them still alive. Oh. Is it Herman?
Starting point is 00:34:20 There's only one hermit. I feel like this is controversial, but we're going to play a game. Guess the pedophile. I read. He's an Indian? I read. Listen, it's a heavy article.
Starting point is 00:34:32 So I thought, we're not, we can't read bad news, so I've got to lighten it up. I turn it into a game. I just want to put in an editor's note. Barry Whitwam. But he's still to. I said,
Starting point is 00:34:43 I don't know if this is hard news, your quality mailbox. Dany is, thank God, using it. But he keeps, all right, let me. Here we are.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I knew you didn't like it. It's a good go one of two ways. I'm going to hold for edit. This is not a joke. Ironically, the band of the new pornographers. The drummer. I was arrested on child pornography. Read.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Now, why would I read that on good news? Listen, it's a heavy article. I want to play a game. So I thought, we're not a band line up. We'll have to put it up on the screen. I mean, really, lock it on perverts. It's a great. I did not approve.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Fuck. No. I said, I don't know if the youths are. I think you can pick out. Thank God for game. So here's the band. Which which one? I know you didn't like it.
Starting point is 00:35:25 I'll go one of two ways. I guess we'll put it up on that. This is not a joke. Ironically, the band of the new pornographers, drummer. Yeah. So, yeah, Danny.
Starting point is 00:35:34 Hornography charges last week. I headed up on good news. Danny walked up. He goes, because I want to play a game. Abel came in, one of our other line up. He walked in. I go, which one, he goes, I'll have to put it up on the screen.
Starting point is 00:35:44 I mean, really, lock it up. Listen, I'm not. I'm not into any sort of profiling whatsoever. But I just found it. funny when I saw the girl ladder, I think you can pick out who perverts. So here's the band. The only thing that made this less one,
Starting point is 00:35:58 you know, that's all I'm saying. I know. The only thing that made this less fun is there's two chicks in the band and, you know, and into that kind of. I didn't even get that far. I literally okay, second person. I was like, and he walked up. He goes, yeah. So if it wasn't him, he would
Starting point is 00:36:12 of our other employees he walked in. I go, which one? He goes, oh, definitely guy would to call me do. Listen, I'm not. I don't really feel bad. I'm not. showing his face, he's a piece of shit. Oh, dude.
Starting point is 00:36:23 But when he was in a band, walks around with a pornographer. Perverts. I mean, like, the only thing that made this this is more of a question.
Starting point is 00:36:31 That's all I'm saying. I know. We kind of made this less fun because we didn't have, there's two chicks in the band. Carmelo Anthony was in town to launch his new cannabis brand. I didn't even get that far.
Starting point is 00:36:39 I literally, okay, second person is bang. Automatic winner. And if it wasn't him, he would also be guilty. Check them out. And here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:36:48 If we decided to keep this ever been to and I've been to Colorado. I don't really feel bad about showing his face. He's three levels. But anyway, he was in a band named, were you? Did you attend that at all? No, no, anybody who did.
Starting point is 00:37:02 Talk about being on that. Lastly, this is more of a question than news. We kind of missed this one because we need to have a new segment. Carmelo Anthony was in town to launch his new cannabis brand, which is Stamee 70. Yeah, he's moving right in. And with our friends at Flintstone, who we love, Flintstone Cannabis Company, absolutely amazing. check them out greatest. How do you think that does for it?
Starting point is 00:37:21 Like dispensary I've ever been to and I've been to Colorado. It's absolutely. The one of the circus is phenomenal. I haven't necessarily looked, but I've seen in other places they have like Mike Tyson has his own. Did you tend that at all? You can find an every new dispensary anywhere. But like the prices of those are pretty much in line with everybody else. So we need to.
Starting point is 00:37:40 It's not a premium price. I think it's. So are there's a lot of celebrities that have their own, you know. You get these brand deals of all kinds of products. I'm just interested, you know, How does that work out for them? What do you think? We've got to be these guys on the show.
Starting point is 00:37:52 We got to get wild out of you. How do you think that does for them? I mean, I think if it's more of like expanding your portfolio, right? Like, I think a lot of these guys are already established celebrities in whatever industry they're in, right? So it's his own. It's kind of like we were talking about every new dispensary anywhere. But like the prices of early retire is like, all right, now I just sit here on my money that I have. And it's like, no, you know.
Starting point is 00:38:13 It's not a premium. It was a thing. Yeah, you do it. So how much are these smart investments? Because I've always said. I'm not ever. A grand deal is all kinds of products. I'm not interested, you know, how does that work out?
Starting point is 00:38:23 Investment advice. I'm not qualified for that. But I am good at it. I do have investments. I think if it's more of like expanding the portfolio, right? Like I think a lot of these guys are already established celebrities in whatever industry they're in, right? So it's kind of like we were talking about earlier off here. It's new.
Starting point is 00:38:39 So you're getting it on the ground for clients about like, and people think early retirement is like, all right. So the other side of that too is, you know, like anything else. It is sort of a market. You invest it. Yeah. And I just think. So, you know, I'm a celebrity I endorse this. And that makes it sell more.
Starting point is 00:38:52 I've always said I'm not ever. In the cannabis area, I can see that being an extra investment. And the reason for that is, but I am good at it. If you go to these legal shops and I pride myself on it. And I feel like one of the first rules I was taught was investing what people need. You know, it's what, you know, medicine, crop came in and they had a bag of this particular kind. It's available for you. It's new.
Starting point is 00:39:12 So you're getting it on the ground floor and these same brands will often. And who the hell doesn't like Canada? So the other side of that, too, is, you know, like anything else. is, you know, like anything else, if you have a celebrity, right, just like anything you're familiar with, you can walk in a story every time, and go give me me mellows and that makes it sell more. You know what? And you're buying his stuff without, I could see that,
Starting point is 00:39:27 oh, we're out of that extra advantage. And the reason for that is, it becomes a very easy, just like if you go to these legal shops, you'll notice that you can almost never buy the same thing twice. It's also brilliant on his part because it's, first of all, you're going to sell it based on your name. Where is Carmello a kind? It's available for you. That's why I have your brands and these same brands off.
Starting point is 00:39:46 But the exact same thing. I mean, very rare. So. Why wouldn't I say, you know, spoiler-less celebrity. You're familiar with you.
Starting point is 00:39:54 You can walk in this store every time and go, give me me mellows. I did not know that. It's my understanding. And you're buying his stuff without, he might be buying. Oh, we're out of that particular way.
Starting point is 00:40:01 To stick around on a regular basis. Where does he live in? That's just like everything comes a name brand. Absolutely. And you just got me thinking. It's also brilliant on his part because. Good chance we'll see him. First of all, you're going to sell it based on your name.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Where is Carmello a king? When I, Well, yeah, this is a lot of Exactly. So, I mean, He went to the Knicks? Why, why wouldn't I sound like, spoiler alert?
Starting point is 00:40:25 I mean, it was like, just, it couldn't get any better here. Amen. I mean, he's got buildings around town. How incredible is that? Is it? To me, I'd never leave that town. To stick around on a regular basis in town. There's a place in this state that, like, they worship me and they put my name on things.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I'll never forget when he went to the next. Good chance we'll see him more than we have. That's how cool I have. I don't really like it here. I'm so cool that I don't even have to live in the town they worship me. Truth is, they probably worship. I'm a big one. Incredible place.
Starting point is 00:40:53 Someone went to the Knicks. That was fucking who has this kind of power. Yeah. We're going to put a building. I mean, it was like just. It couldn't be a building. What is it? I mean, he's got buildings around town named after.
Starting point is 00:41:04 It could be a store. It's amazing. To me, I'd never leave. It could be a braff. I mean, like, there's a place in this state. It's like, they worship me and they put my name on things. I live in another state. So I'm trying to, this is a very interesting
Starting point is 00:41:17 I know. I don't really like it here. I'm so cool that I don't even have to live in the town they worship me. Should I think about living in a day? Incredible. Yeah. So the answer is in a perfect world, I'm going to see now where we are. We're going to put a building in a perfect world where I have unlimited resources.
Starting point is 00:41:33 It is a massive building. What is it? Like it is like the state tower building or the Axe Towers building. Something down. Massive. I want mass. I don't necessarily care about. You want to be part of this.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Savage farm? I want as much. is much space in a property as possible. So, I'm just for a few different things. I know. You know what? Maybe we'll just put a pin in it. No, to have, aside from what I need,
Starting point is 00:41:55 I want to run out some space to other businesses, other people that cover the expenses of said. So the answer is in a perfect world, I see now I'm where we got me here. In a perfect world, you guys only know a fraction of it, and I am limited by my budget. It is like the state tower building. If I had a bigger budget.
Starting point is 00:42:12 Something down, really fucking dangerous. And I can take a place like the, like the exit towers. You'd be on an episode of order. There are two towers space of 19 stories each. So approximately, and there's a little more. A, if you gave that to me. To have a side from what I need. I want to rent out some space to other businesses, other people that the facilities
Starting point is 00:42:32 set up for different things. But also, we're talking about studios. I'm insane. I have a dedicated studio. You guys only know a fraction of it. And I am limited by my budget. This is why. If I had a bigger budget.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Any amount of space you give me, I will fill. Because I knew you would answer it in an interesting way. And I could take a place like the, like the Atsa Towers. You'd be on an episode of a hoarder. That is a million square feet. Matt, this morning you want to buy a theater in New Jersey. If you gave that to me. Anytime I get in the car with Matt, we could be going to the store on the corner.
Starting point is 00:43:05 It ends up being a 15-minute detour if he just goes around and shows me buildings. I'd have a dedicated studio. And I'm like, oh, cool, what would you put in there? He's like, I'm not sure. But I just want a big building. I love you know. So this is why I just, I asked me that.
Starting point is 00:43:16 Any amount of space you give me, I will find the details in the deal podcast. Because I knew you would answer it in an interesting way, but being the entrepreneur and just the person. Dude, I was looking at the way I was buying Remington Arms in I'llian that is a million square feet. Matt, this morning you want to buy a theater in New Jersey.
Starting point is 00:43:30 I look at the commercial real estate listings. I look at one of the smaller things. Anytime I get in the car with Matt, we could be going to the store on the corner. It ends up being a 15 minute detour if he just goes around and shows me buildings and sale. And I'm like, Oh, cool. What would you put in there? He's like, I'm not sure, but I just want a big building.
Starting point is 00:43:47 What could be really cool in that space? You asked me that, and I've said this, I think, to be a shop, could it be a restaurant, could it be a factory that does, you might want to check out. This sort of thing. That's literally what I day to about. The way I dream, you know, all the commercial rules. And I'm not trying to hop on your bandwagon here, but we, whether I drive around town or I look at the commercial real estate listings, and I look at, especially. Back me up on this. I said, you know, you got this new warehouse. I see a vacant, commercial building, but I have to peek in. A lot of these older. A lot of these older. A lot of these old. I have. Just imagine what can be used for. But you take it to the next level. Dude, mall.
Starting point is 00:44:17 I have a detail plan for a shopping mall. I could be really cool in that space. Shopping town or something? Could it be a shop to turn it into a facility? It would do all kinds of crazy things. That's what this town needs another shop. That's literally what I don't think about. I'm saying to use that facility.
Starting point is 00:44:32 Actually, I would turn into an ink. But we had a space designed to grow other businesses with a client. There's lots of incubators. And Danny can back me up on this. I said, and I have this issue when I see a vacant. commercial building. I have to peek in and just imagine what can be in a incubator. But you take it to the next level.
Starting point is 00:44:50 Dude, I have a detailed plan for a shopping mall. I could get like shopping town or something on the bagpipe to turn it into a real quick. Repeat after me. That's what this town needs another shopping. No, no, I'm saying to use that facility. Lights. Actually, I would turn it into an incubator.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Rise up lights. That's how you say razor blades. With an Australian accent. Rise up lights. I got some unique. On that note, and every year you've been in a Bash an insane episode of Good News. Tuesday Newsday.
Starting point is 00:45:19 At this place, that's an in a big page. We're going to start like a dad joke. Incubes is awesome. There are no red hot chili piper. It really is. Dead joke bit. I'm going to dip out of here, but before we go. Repeat after me.
Starting point is 00:45:32 What? Before we go. What are you doing? I'm scared. Our expert producer. Rise up. Up. Lights.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Lights. Lights. I'll say it fast. Rise up lights. Danny's coming? That's how you say razor blades. It's a classic game that's got some. And life rise up life.
Starting point is 00:45:45 He's going to give us some experts on that note. And put on it. This has been an insane episode of Good News York, Tuesday, Newsday. Are we going to start like a dad joke bit? I mean, isn't this one giant dad? It really is. Dad joke bit. I'm going to dip out of here.
Starting point is 00:46:03 But before we go. Oh, shit. What? Before we go. What are you doing? Our expert producer has some news that he's going to talk to us about. Oh. Danny.
Starting point is 00:46:13 It's a classic game that's got some new life. Get up here, bro. Matt left. He actually just went on tour with the red of chili piper. All right, bye. He's a, you know, he was a deadhead, but no more. He's a pepper head. But I am joined now by a much handsomer, much more charming.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Our producer of Good News York, our friend, my co-worker, I love him. Mr. Danny Tripodi, everybody. Oh, whoops, that's not one. I might appear. Danny. Yeah, first of all, Danny Tripote.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Welcome back to Good News York. Yeah, so this is great. Neither do that. Matt left. No, I just really wanted to talk about this. I think it's very important.
Starting point is 00:46:57 And before you start, I will say, no more. Danny is a pepper head. But I am joined now by a much hands of, much more charming. Our producer of Good News York is a very big event.
Starting point is 00:47:09 You're looking for nerd. Drapote. What? I want to say. Let's not. Yeah. Danny is a nerd, but the good kind of nerd. First of all, which actually
Starting point is 00:47:19 I just want to be completely transparent. I actually did not really. In the 90s and now all those assholes are calling those guys. Can you help? No, I just really wanted to talk about this because I think it's important. It's the ultimate redemption.
Starting point is 00:47:31 But anyway, I will say Danny, tell us about what's going on among many other things. Is it October? In October? No, I'm not talking about that. One of the people that are putting on a very big event. I'm looking at.
Starting point is 00:47:43 nerd. I know exactly what I want to say. So I'm just here to say it. Yeah. Danny is a nerd, but the good kind of nerd. As of today, Oblivion, I'm looking at you, Camera 3. You know, people have made fun of nerds back in the 90s, and now all those assholes are calling the NUresda. It's like, can you help fix my modem?
Starting point is 00:47:59 He's getting a remaster because apparently Todd Howard got bored of selling Skyrim for the ninth time. But anyway, you know what? First of all, tell us about what's going on. And here we are. It's in Unreal Engine 5 now. It's in October? Has modern menus, big quality of life stuff. Oh, you're not talking about it? It comes with all the things that you would expect from.
Starting point is 00:48:17 I know exactly what I want to say, including, so I'm just here to say it's irritated. The crown jewel of DLC. So back in 2006, Bethesda made history by being the first company remaster to charge for DLC. It's been announced by Bethesda. So Oblivion is getting a remaster because apparently Todd Howard gets bored of selling Skyrim for the ninth time and said, you know what? And they started that by. Let's just too oblivion. Charging.
Starting point is 00:48:40 And here we are. It's in Unreal Engine 5 now. and it has modern menus, big quality of black stuff. It comes with all the things that you would expect from a little bit more being remaster, including, and this is why, oh, yeah, they were dragged for it. But now of DLC, so back in 2006, Bethesda made history. Everything is asking me for a battle pass. I can log into the Sims and they're going to say, hey, we have a battle pass.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Yeah. Every bit in the game. They are the source charging extra for games and it's all because of Todd Howard. And they started that by the Bethesda team. charging $2.50 for that horse armor. Gamers were furious, but unfortunately, we're also to blame because we were all dumb enough to buy it back in 2006 because
Starting point is 00:49:22 hey, it was $2.50 and they got cheap for that, didn't they? Oh, yeah, they were dragged for it. But now, here we are. We're in this. Caldcape. Everything is asking me for a battle pass. I can log into the Sims and they're going to say, we have a bad-res horse armor in their deluxe edition.
Starting point is 00:49:39 And you know what, Mike, is charging extra for games. all because of Todd Howard and the Bethesda team charging $2.50 for that horse armor. You did it again. Unfortunately, we're also to blame because we were all dumb enough to buy it back in 2006. He got me again. I bought $2.50 and you know what, Todd, I'm buying.
Starting point is 00:49:59 Exactly. I'm in oblivion. Almost 20 years later, they're re-releasing oblivion. It's available today after their announcement with this new high-res horse armor in their deluxe edition. And you know what, Mike? I will be buying it again. Yes, you will. And all of a sudden I had to buy a battle pass.
Starting point is 00:50:18 My initial reaction was, what the fuck? You're going to squeeze more money out of me. You did it again. Yeah. And then I realized. That's what's the most annoying is like you. He got me again. I bought Skyrim nine times and you know what, Todd, I'm buying.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I'm buying, I'm oblivion. And we are in a society now. I was trying to stupid. I'll never do that again. And then he's a dopamine. Here he comes. Cycle continues. So, I mean, from a business.
Starting point is 00:50:41 standpoint is for me. I think it gives you something. I remember the first time I turned on Call of Duty not only customized, you know, for different skins and things like that, you can, and my initial reaction was, what the fuck into this world is your own? You're going to squeeze more money out of me or not. It also gives you a reason like, you know, I might be bored with
Starting point is 00:50:56 Call of Duty at this point. You know, I might be going to play that game almost every day. It might be for 20 minutes, might for two hours, depending on my schedule. But I go back because of the reward system. And are you in a society now, like, did you not know before today's because when you read it, it sounded like, You just found it.
Starting point is 00:51:12 Yeah, so there was rumors. So, I mean, from a business standpoint, it's brilliant, but just from a fan of games, it gives you something. To, they're like, hey, you know what? Abligian, you know, for different skins and things like that. You can just, and imagine, I'm going to go home after this and this world that's your own. But it also gives you a reason, like, imagine being that loudly successful. You know, I might be gone, oh, my God, how many times I'm going to play, it's the same shit. But you can, you have such a fan base that you can just announce it on a win.
Starting point is 00:51:38 And immediately the world flips out. Are you going to, are you, like, did you not. know before today that this was happening. Because when you read it, it sounded like you just found it. So, Danny, before we go, first of all, thank you. Wonderful monologue. People aren't sure if it was getting released or not today. I would like you to plug.
