Starting point is 00:01:03 All right. Welcome to Good News York. Opening day of baseball edition. We are here, Syracuse Mets Stadium, for opening day. Look, traditionally opening day, you think of spring, you think of something. Look, we live in upstate New York, and you just deal with it. All right, I'm a Bill's fan, so I'm used to this stuff. We're going to have a lot of fun today, and, you know, give me some peanuts, maybe some crapper jack. I don't care if I ever go back.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Let's do this thing. Let's go. We're about to get hit by the mascot. All right, good news, York. Our first shoot, and we're interviewing the GM of the Syracuse Metzis is insane. Got nowhere to go but down. Hard, fast spiraling.
Starting point is 00:02:08 I have no business interviewing you. It is a pleasure to meet you, especially on such a day like this is opening day. Now, is this one of your favorite days of the year, I would assume? It is. It's this open day. There's Christmas Day, there's New Year's Day, there's Open Day. That's right.
Starting point is 00:02:22 If you get the word day in, it's usually a pretty important day. So we've woken up, we have been out of business for six months, now we get to see our season. Ticket holders and our friends and our workers, the players are back. It's just the start of a new season. It's just hope springs eternal. We're essentially in first place. That is a fact.
Starting point is 00:02:42 That's back. It couldn't be a better time of the year for it. I could not agree more. The weather obviously doesn't cure anybody. Looks like everybody's out and about. It could be worse. It's sunny. We've had worse open in days.
Starting point is 00:02:53 So as long as it's sunny, we'll have a nice little crowd today. We'll have a lot of fun. It's amazing. Play the hands you tell. That's right. And here at Good News, York, we like to ask. So what's the good news? Give us some good news.
Starting point is 00:03:04 What should be here? Good news is open today. Yeah. Good news is not raining. Correct. Good news. We're on the right side of the dirt. Give them up every day.
Starting point is 00:03:12 It's a blessing. We've got this great giveaway today. It's super cold. We're not going to achieve the 53 degree guarantee but that's not a negative. That's positive. It's like to buy one and get one, because now all of our fans could bring their tickets back to any game they want in April or May. That's amazing. It's Taco Tuesday. Who doesn't want Taco Tuesday?
Starting point is 00:03:32 Right. It's on Tuesday. You don't then. That's weird. There might be some copyright infringement with Taco Bell on that. I think LeBron had a problem with him, but they're not going after LeBron. They're not going after us. And look, LeBron's not here. So, I got to ask you, though, as a huge sports fan myself, right? When the Mets organization up at the top, when there's a big signing like a WANT soda, right? Does that reverberate down to the minor league to this? You know, I think the excitement about the Mets is never a bad thing. I think for us, you know, what I've noticed, you've now been owned, well, we were owned by the Mets for seven years,
Starting point is 00:04:05 but we had affiliated with the Mets on the field for seven years. It's just the best theft, whether it was, you know, it's been building over time, right? It was DeGrom, it was Scherz. And then it was Lador. Then it was the excitement of the Yacht Guns. of Viantos and Beatty and Arboras. And then all of a sudden it's Juan Soto. So they made the playoffs last year.
Starting point is 00:04:25 They got Juan Soto. How many home runs were hit last night? I think of a link of an eye. So it's the MET effect because there's so many MET fans in Central New York. Everywhere we go, we're one of the largest drawing teams on the road. So you talk to Pikeville, the radio guy, he'll be like, there's a lot of orange and blue jerseys here in Charlotte.
Starting point is 00:04:45 There's a lot of orange and blue jerseys here in Rochester. Mets fans are out of their mind. I love this. But it's just the bet effect. Getting guys like Soto can only increase that. The better the Mets do, the better it is for us. That's amazing. Now, give me one thing I've got to try food or drink-wise here at the ballpark.
Starting point is 00:05:03 That's my first time here. All right, first time here. You've got to have a hop-and-thog. It's the world's greatest hot talk. I get a ballpark, can have a hot dog. I would recommend to get it off of the grill carts because they're better. But today's a talk good Tuesday, so we transform the... hot dog cards and the taco cards.
Starting point is 00:05:19 But we don't make bad, we make the best tacos made in a baseball stadium in the north side of Syracuse in April on a Tuesday. So you got that going for you. But here's the real secret. Okay, I'm ready? The parogi. Oh, I love a good parogi. We have a, we have a couple varieties. We have regular pierogi that are cooked and butter on the grill with onions.
Starting point is 00:05:40 And we have deep fried buffalo chicken white pierogi over at the first base stand. You had me at fried. I don't know if today's the day for a wine slushy. You know, but do you get yourself a pierogi at a Utica club? That's a little thing called heaven. All right. Before I let you go, I got to ask for those young fans like myself, oh, I'm not so young, but for fans who always dream,
Starting point is 00:06:04 oh, I could be a GM someday, I could be a GM. He'd take me just like a brief something. What's a day in the life like for a GM? It's like the same thing I tell everybody else. Take it. Job is yours. I did. I did it.
Starting point is 00:06:14 I did it. All right. First things first, Taco Wednesday, Thursday Friday. It's awkward. All right, there you have it. The GM of the Syracuse Months. Thank you so much for your time on that. Thank you, Scott, but I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Keep spread the good work. You got it. Oh, no, I couldn't. I could stop. Okay. We are heading into the team store where we are going to rob them. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:06:43 When I'm looking for a good, you know, right? No, I have. Is it actually? Not a big snapback guy. No offense to the snapback crowd. I like a nice fitted hat, you know? I'm also a fan of like simple.
Starting point is 00:06:58 I like just not this. Oh, no, that's pretty simple. But like, for example, right? Nice and simple. Snapback, that's okay. Look, simple. Doesn't have to be flour at you. No.
Starting point is 00:07:15 No. then but I do appreciate over the goddamn town yeah we should get that for it I think we should get that for because nothing says asshole like a giant orange cowboy ass I'm here with our podcast good news York what's up what you're here I'm William how are you nice to meet you welcome to the team store well this is a really nice place thank you can you just you know give me some good news what do you got for me it can be about anything that's our new jersey that blue I'm in love with those jerseys actually.
Starting point is 00:07:51 I love that it says Syracuse, of course. How long are you going to work? This is my fourth season. Fourth season. And you enjoy it, I see. Yeah, it's a good shop. It's a good place to work. We're having fun.
Starting point is 00:08:03 We get to watch baseball all day. It's a great day. You can see it right from here. And you're not out in the cold. This is my office. This is your office. It's absolutely beautiful. Now, if I'm going to eat something today,
Starting point is 00:08:13 what is the thing I gotta have? I like the parogies. the parogies a lot. I like hot dogs, but I'd rather have a parogi. You know what? They're all the way on the third base sign and the guy, his name's Billy, he does them really good. Okay, so we've been told about these pierogies. Now we've got a name and location. And I like Chick-fil-A too. I do. I will venture over there and have a Chick-fil-A every once in a while as well. Perfect. Well, thank you. Will. You're the best, man. Have fun today. All right. Enjoy the game. You're going to stay for the game? Absolutely. Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:08:48 like we're really doing it now yeah you know that's a hat and I'm ready for some baseball it's our first time it's our first time in the metroposbury railroad's the what's your name Lauren Lauren you mind you mind if I interview about it's our first time in the Metropolitan Club this is beautiful what's your name Lauren Lauren yeah Manify interview there's okay? Sure. Laura, how long have you been working here? Eight years, I believe.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Eight years? Yeah. So do you just work, well, obviously, and this hasn't been here eight years. So you work all around the ballpark? Yes, I'm at pretty much every stand. I think I worked. But are you strictly bartender server or?
Starting point is 00:09:43 No, I actually have done warehouse. I have worked in the kitchen. I have worked in pretty much every department here. Woman is ready. Do you know Danny? I do know Dany. Everybody knows Dan's. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I thought everyone was excited to see me and then I realized nobody knows me. He did. And that's, it should be that way. So do you have a favorite spot to work in the, like, in the stadium or are you here? Do you love it all? I work at the dugout bar. That's like my place to be, but I will work anywhere. There's not really specific.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Yeah. All right, so I've been asking everybody and so far it's checked out. If there's one thing I've got to eat today, what is it? The buffalo progis. Dude, it's a dumb deal. It's a dung. deal. Well, thank you. And I don't do spicy food. So if you can eat that, I love spicy. Then there you got. There you got. Oh, God. Well, it was so nice.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Good name. I'm sorry. Lauren. Lauren, everybody, comes to here at the Metropolitan Club or the dugout or I don't know. Front entrance, a side entrance. She might even be playing baseball today. I played softball. There you go. Well, thank you so much. Thank you. Well, Matt. And we have a podcast called Good News York. We just started a couple months ago, and he wanted to be here for opening day and shoot an episode. Well, we kept asking, we did some interviews, and I said, what is one thing I have to try? I'm going to be here. Everyone said the parodies.
Starting point is 00:11:16 20% tip. Always listen. Always tip. Always tip. I made a living on tips for a long tomorrow. There we go. Alright, I'm very excited about this and I'm more excited to eat it in front of Danny and not offered him any better This isn't gonna be pretty. I don't have a knife
Starting point is 00:11:40 We got. That's good. That's the sourcrown one we try the potato cheddar. It's good really really good I forgot how cold I am Uh-huh, yeah Bed bite. Mm-hmm. I feel Polish. If you're coming to the Syracuse Mats, I will endorse these Perogis.
Starting point is 00:12:32 I can't even tell you the last time I had a parobias. Dan, you don't mess with Perobies, alright? You should. You can only tell the guys that came from in the weather. They're the ones huddling underneath the heaters, and I don't lay out. Alright. I promised you that we would get into something and I ran into Ryan McMahon
Starting point is 00:12:55 Anadaga County Executive Now you've been throwing a baseball for about two and a half hours So I'm assuming you're throwing out the first pitch I have I take this very seriously Because if you throw out a bad pitch You have all year to think about it So it's cold down here Yeah and I argue you have your whole life to think about it
Starting point is 00:13:16 Because I've seen a couple instances I don't want to make you nervous But there's a guy by the name of Baba Booie from the Howard Stern Show. He's very famous for throwing the absolute worst pitch. Has this kept you up? I'm being saying, has this kept you up at night? Have you really thought about it? Just to, you said I've been out here for a while.
Starting point is 00:13:34 He really has. So this is something you think about. I remember my first one of these when I first became county executive. I was actually out here the day before. I woke up the next day with a dead arm. And so the, you know, I ended up actually throwing probably my best pitch because I couldn't feel anything. But this is very serious business.
Starting point is 00:13:51 And, you know, there was an old politician who didn't even make it, you know, to the dirt before. So our goal is to throw a strike every year. It's what the people deserve. See, now listen, you're already going into this with a winning recipe. Because people come out and they're like, I don't know, I can throw the ball. You really do have to take it serious. You just got to get it to the plate. And I've been watching it throw.
Starting point is 00:14:11 I think you're okay. Do you have any advice for someone who's going to throw in the first pitch? Throw it from the mound is the only way. to do it, in my opinion, but you better get your distance and your muscle memory figured on that, especially if you haven't thrown a baseball in a good 10 or 20 years. So, you know, that's my advice. This is a serious business, once a year opportunity for me, and you try to make the most to it. I agree. All right, I'll get you out here on this one. So our show's Good News, York. Onondag County Executive, give us some, give anything. Good news for Anand Dogg County. What we got?
Starting point is 00:14:47 Well, it's great that baseball season's back. If you're a Mets fan like I am, it's great to see what the Major League team has. Seeing some of that talent come up and down is going to be fantastic this year. But look, our community is going through an economic renaissance right now. We're becoming the high-tech manufacturing powerhouse, really at the Northeast. And we're going to be breaking around on the Micron Project in November. So that means more economic opportunity, more jobs, and more fans in the stance. Well, we're all excited, I promise you that Brian McMahon,
Starting point is 00:15:17 Thank you for your time and good luck. Please don't. Just get it, get it over the plate, all right? I'll never live it down in my own. Now that we interview, I'm actually nervous. I'm rooting. Because usually I'm like, ha ha ha ha, miss it, loser, but now I can't. Here he goes. All right. Let's see if that two and a half hours worth the warming up paid on. Here we go. Okay, okay. It was wide, it was high, but he got it there. That's all that matters. You have to get it there. You will never live it down. I didn't want to tell him, but like, you'll never live it down.
Starting point is 00:15:59 All right, Mike Brindisi, the New York, saying farewell from NBT Bank Stadium. Opening day, Syracuse Metz, first the Scranton-Wilkesbury Rail Riders, I believe. It's the Yankees. Affiliated. We're leaving for two reasons. One, we're cold, and I think we've overstayed our welcome. you're getting the side eye from everybody. Hopefully that one of the 50-50. Danny's signing autographs.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I don't know how you even have time to shoot this. We're going to do this again. So, yeah, here we are. Good news you're seeing tomorrow.
