Hey, folks, I'm Matt Major from Growth Mode Content.
Welcome to Good News, York, on this July holiday week.
It's a weird week.
The holidays at the end of the week,
but everybody mentally checked out days ago, I feel like.
Yeah, we're all on vacation.
100%.
And like everything I listen to or watches on vacation.
By the way, I'm Mike Brindisi.
This is Good News York.
Sponsored by Ads on the go.
Ads on the go.

Yeah, get ads on the go.com.
Everything I listen to is on a break.
Literally, Howard Stern just went on break.
All my sports shows are on break.
there ain't shit going on.
This is like the lull in the season.
I haven't been a daily Howard Listernard listener in a long time.
Is he still like...
I haven't missed a show since 1995.
But now, his contract now, doesn't he like only do three shows a week or something?
Yeah, as of, what was it, like two years ago, I think, maybe three years ago.
Maybe five years ago when he signed, because his contract, he just five-year contract.
This one's about to be up.
So probably five years ago, he started doing Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
You think he's going to...
That's the best.
big question every time. What I personally think, being such a diehard Stern fan, I think
it, like the Howard Stern Sirius X-M show is done, but I think, yeah, I think he's not gonna,
it's not going to be that. But I think, because he built his studio, he's got a studio in his
Florida home and in his New York home and he only comes into, he doesn't leave the house anymore,
unless it's like when he, when he interviewed Bruce Springsteen, he wanted to be there to meet
You know, so special occasions.
Came up for the boss, huh?
Yeah, he came out for the boss.
And, you know, all the rest of the staff kind of, you know, they go in.
But I think he's going to do kind of what we're doing.
I think he's going to do more like pop on once a week, maybe once a month and do a big interview.
That's my take.
He's always evolving and he can't put the mic down.
See, he's the type of guy that I feel like if he's not in that daily gig, he's got a dude.
It's something along those lines, right?
He just, he's not the type of guy.
I feel like who would just sit around.
Maybe I could be wrong.
No, you're right.
But if he's not in a contract, he's got a really neat advantage to where he could sell individual interviews to individual networks.
Absolutely.
So if Netflix is like do a special interview with the president, they could pay Howard some incredible amount of money to do that one one off deal.
Yeah.
You might be right.
I think you may end up seeing things like that.
Yeah, that's kind of what I mean is I don't know exactly what it's going to.
going to be, but it'll be something like that.
I think David Letterman did that.
Didn't they have like a six-episode series on Netflix where he did like six, one with
Obama, one movie?
David Letterman randomly showed up in a Mr. Beast video the other day.
Dude, he-
blew my fuck it.
I don't even, at the end of it like, hey, and here's David Letterman.
Why the fuck is David Letterman?
Dude, and the thing is, though?
He didn't even speak.
It was just like he was just there for a minute and the video went on.
There guys.
But you know, the thing about him is.
The Mr. Beast fans know who David Letterman is.
That's a great question.
But here's the thing.
I think, like, David Letterman has built such an incredible resume and just aura.
He's one of the guys that can show up on any genre of...
100% of podcast or movie, and you'll just find a spot for him.
You're just like, oh, okay.
Yeah, David Letterman's here.
Yep.
Fucking love David Letterman.
He's wild.
He's wild.
Rocking that white hair, man.
I don't know.
The beard.
Everyone comments on the beard.
He's just like, I feel like when you go, when you have white hair and you go beard,
You make yourself look even older.
You do.
I'll tell you one thing that I'm starting to find a little attractive about that, though, as a guy who's getting a little older, is I'm seeing more and more of these fellows.
You see like Bernie Sanders and Larry David.
All these guys who have gone that complete white, David Letterman, that complete white hair, you get to stop combing it.
Do you ever see these guys?
A hundred percent of these old guys with the white hair looks like they just stuck their finger in a light socket.
They don't give a fuck.
Do you comb your beard?
Yeah, sometimes.
See, you got the salt and pepper.
I love salt and pepper.
I can't go long on the beard either.
Why not?
After a while, it just fucking annoys me.
You got to trim it back.
Well, what are you going to do when you're thinking of like,
like when I piss you off?
You're like, what should I do with Mike?
You got to have a beard.
You got to have at least a minimum because I can't go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dude, my wife until like a year and a half ago
had never seen me without a beard.
I was just going to ask, when's the last time you didn't have a beard?
Once, about a year and a half ago,
I shaved off the whole thing, and I came downstairs, and I literally scared my wife.
Yeah, I was going to say, did she scream?
Like, who the fuck is that?
It was wild.
That's great.
And I'll never do that again, because there's some of us that are fucking hideous without facial hair.
Well, I'm one of, I don't know.
You got, you got like the John.
You can pull off the clean shave.
I've been doing the, like, kind of five o'clock shadow for the last five years or more.
And then when I took this job and I knew I was going to be on camera every day,
I started shaving and part of me likes it.
And then part of me I'm like, God, I look like a dick with ears sometimes.
And I just, yeah, I don't know.
I don't know.
I go in and out of the can I pull off a beard?
What's great is this filled in.
I used to be able to grow hair here and here, but I finally got that going.
Not so much here.
Not so much hair.
So I was at an NFL alumni golf tournament on Monday.
Oh, yeah.
On Monday.
Yeah.
So we didn't have an episode Monday.
Wait, what's today? Wednesday?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then so yesterday, the actual episode aired.
The NFL alumni golf tournament, that was a golf tournament that was, so there's the NFL alumni upstate New York chapter.
They have chapters all over the country.
And essentially what each chapter does is it provides a platform for former NFL players to just do speaking engagements, do charity events, things of that nature.
something good to do with their time.
Right.
And so Gene Mills, Hall of Fame wrestler,
who's going to be coming on here in July,
he is the head of the upstate New York chapter.
So they pick one charity every year,
and they do a charity golf tournament.
This year they chose our friends David's Refuge,
which is how we got lined up with this.
And so I went out for the day,
didn't know what to expect.
I hung out with David's Refuge because I'm a shade guy,
you know.
Like when we go on vacation,
my kids play by the,
by the ocean and they're like,
Dad, and I can't hear him, but I pretend I do it because I'm in the shade.
And I'm just like, yeah, great.
Under the cabana.
Sure.
So I kind of hung out under there next to this putting green where they had a putting contest.
Got to meet a lot of former NFL players, a lot of local regional businessman and women.
The Marabito guys were there.
And I guess they raised something like 15 grand for David's Refuge.
It was really nice.
Yeah, I had a great time.
And I sweat a lot.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You didn't actually golf, though, right?
I didn't.
I wasn't able to golf.
I did bring my putter because we were next to a putting green
and I was just kind of practicing putting, but it was good.
Putter around?
Just puttered around.
And there was a kid named Riley Dixon.
I forgot about that.
He plays in the NFL now for the Tampa Bay Bucks, I think.
I think he got drafted by the Broncos.
Young kid.
He is from Sylvan Beach, where my parents live.
Yes, we talked about that a little bit.
And I did some interviews, like I said,
and got some interviews for, you know, some guys to come in on the show.
It was fun.
You can see them all right now on good newsyork.com.
You can.
Anywhere you get podcasts.
That's correct.
Look for Good News York.
If you want to see it, YouTube or our website's probably the best.
Yeah.
Yep.
I definitely want to talk about this.
I'm very, very excited.
Now, as you know, I live in Ithaca.
No.
Love Ithaca, New York.
Yeah.
I have always said pre-pandemic, still a little bit now, but pre-pandemic, I always thought,
Ithaca, when I went to Austin, Texas, I was like, Jesus, this is, if you've ever been to Austin, I'm like, this is Ithaca times 100.
It's a liberal, cultural little hub in the middle surrounded by, you know, red counties and rural area.
And that's exactly what Ithaca is.
And it's just, it's an amazing place, you know, if you're driving up from the city, the drive-in from, like Syracuse is beautiful.
If you're coming down, you know, by the lake or Auburn.
But if you drive in from the city, dude, I mean, it looks like deliverance.
but a lot of the times comedians will come out through a lot of fields
yeah you come through a lot of fields um buffalo what is it buffalo hill road it's actually
been on the travel channel as like the poorest road in the united states what my friend and i went down
it's nuts come on no no no i swear to god there's like mobile homes on top of a mobile home no no
no this makes herkimer look like and i love you herkimer makes herggemer look like a fucking
you know a palace wow it's uh it's called buffalo something road i think buffalo hill
road. And yeah, there's like literally a trailer on top of a trailer, dirt pile. It's crazy. But anyway,
when you're driving in from the city and most comedians and musicians that come to Cornell or to
Ithaca to perform do, they're like, you know, they have the opposite take. They're like,
where the hell am I? You know, this is great. But yeah. So I've always said that if you took
it together and you put it next to like a freeway, like where Binghamton is, it could be like the next
Austin, Texas. But anyway, a couple days ago, CNN as part of a series they do, released an episode.
I'm going to show you the clip now. Oh, we got a clip. They named Ithaca the number one town
in the United States that is a must visit. It was overwhelming for people from the Ithaca area,
and I think it's great. I think it embodies what this show is about. So let's take a look.
Did the producer attend to college in Ithaca? You know, it's a good question. Usually that's how we get people there.
This is beautiful.
Wow, wow, wow.
Yeah, never gets a little.
My daughter actually and my wife just went to a Girl Scout camping trip.
We talked about it this morning.
It's the tallest waterfall in the state.
Not that we're competing, but it's 33 feet higher than Niagara Falls.
It's just one reason why the areas become known as a destination for clean their healthy living.
Higher than a place where you can relax and recharge.
Is this the one people jump off?
No.
My sound machine is doing a terrible job.
because this is so calming.
Yeah, that was so...
You could walk down to where they are,
or you can go up to the overlook,
which is even more incredible.
People don't jump off?
And no one knows how to pronounce it.
It's Takahannock.
It's Takanic.
A region shaped by melting glacial ice.
Like the parkway.
It's absolutely gorgeous here.
Oh, God.
That's like the I love New York T-shirts.
And it's not just the nature of it's gorgeous.
Over the last 50s here, it's gorgeous.
15 years, a nonprofit called Ithaca Murals has worked with artists to transform the city's
gray spaces into public art.
Today, more than 400 years to and I.
I love it.
It's the best.

We went to City Hall, they said, you know, we're going to give you pre-permission for all the parking garages and all the electrical boxes.
Yeah, that's what I love about it.
They gave up everything.
Electrical boxes.
It's cityscape to really honor the people and the values that live here.
At Ithaca's famous farmer's market, local vendors highlight the region's fresh, healthy.
Love me a good farmer's market.
In It's so famous.
It's a great question.
Pop-up serves up soulful plant-based.
This guy sounds a little biased to me about the line.
A little bit.
The peanut stew is really good.
Did she just say the penis stew?
Oh, okay.
Let's get it.
She also has a restaurant downtown.
Can I just hear penis stew?
This looks fantastic.
So how has...
It doesn't look like a penis.
It's a lot of what kind of penis he used.
It's been amazing.
We're talking about goat.
You don't want your hamster doctor working on your horse.
I've been very blessed.
It's one of my best feelings.
It's amazing.
It's impressed by the community.
The last place I expected to visit in central New York is a monastery that serves as the Dalai Lama's
North American hub for Buddhist studies.
Oh, snap.
It's the only place in the world.
It houses the complete written works of the 14th Dalai Lama, his personal 1966 range roland.
And all the welcome to join the guided meditation.
I really want some penis stew.
So I got that going for me.
So there you have it.
And yeah, pretty cool.
Speaking of which, fun fact.
Question.
Yeah, please.
Does CNN run the story of your town is the best town in America locally in every town?
Because they could do that.
I mean, they could.
Did that only play in Ithaca?
Look, if it did, I fell for it.
How great would that be?
That would, that's so...
You could make targeted programmatic content like that.
I'm surprised they haven't.
That's actually a brilliant.
See, that's what you're always forward things.
There's like a show in Massachusetts right now that's talking about how CNN just did a story on Marlboro.
Come to Marlboro, whatever is the best town in the United States.
I mean, you might be right.
And that's totally something CNN would do.
Let me ask you, because I don't mean to shit on CNN, but I'm going to love to care.
Because that piece was really beautiful.
But it didn't, you know, showed me a couple of cool things.
Yeah.
If I was coming to Ithaca and I'm not a Buddhist,
what would be the top three things that I would do there?
First of all, you would eat.
Okay.
I mean, I do that everywhere.
The culinary world around the United States has up their game.
But for a long time, Ithaca was known.
I mean, you couldn't find dining in any city other than, like, you know, New York, L.A.,
the big, big markets like you had in Ithaca.
Smaller cities did not have the kind of cuisine.
Like, what do you mean like that?
Like a variety of coins?
We have everything from Vietnamese to Ethiopian, Thai, obviously American Bistro,
Japanese, Mexican, Italian.
And I know, how about some people going?
Does anybody sell cheese burgers?
The best burgers you'll ever have are at the Ithaca alehouse.
That's what I mean, American Bistro, wings, burgers.
And I know you can get that in Syracuse now.
But for a long time, you know, Ithaca was known for its dining.
More restaurants per capita than New York.
Out of all of those, I guess we'll say more ethnic, less available restaurants that you have available.
Which one do you like the best?
Have you tried them all?
Almost.
At the Ethiopian and all that?
Not the Ethiopian.
Taste a Thai.
The Thai food is unfucking believable.
A lot of people would agree with that.
Absolutely.
I mean, and it is authentic.
They're from, you know, Thailand.
And they have a couple locations.
And then I think I haven't eaten at Saigon kitchen,
but I heard the Vietnamese Saigon kitchen is the absolute best.
But my personal favor, if you're going ethnic, like,
that's not your traditional, like, burgers.
I would say Taste of Thai and Gola, which is Italian,
but the owner went to Italy and trained how to cook traditional, like,
wow.
Yeah, it's not just like family style.
It's like traditional Italian cuisine.
Gabaguel, managat.
Gabagal, man of God.
I mean, you can, you know, you're not going to.
going to get that there. But yeah. But yeah, so I mean, I would say dining is number one.
Number two would be your, your outdoorsy stuff, because that's what it's known for. Your gorgeous.
Nature. Nature, ghouly. And third would be your, at least before the pandemic, would be your,
your live entertainment. I mean, there are constant festivals, street buskers, art. We have, you know,
Chili Fest, the ice festival where they carve ice into things live in front of people.
It's a great spot.
It's just in the middle of nowhere.
Fun fact, speaking to the Buddhist monastery where the Dalai Lama is,
Kurt Cobain before he died, this is a true story.
Him and Courtney Love had gotten into the Buddhist religion.
Okay.
And I don't know why, for reasons unknown, because of that, I guess.
Courtney Love did come after Kirk Cobain was cremated and brought his ashes to that monastery,
and she spread his ashes somewhere in Ithaca.
I don't know where.
Wow.
But part of Kurt Cobain's ashes are spread in Ithaca.
and that is a true story.
That's incredible.
Yeah.
So that's my wrap on that.
Go Ithaca.
Go Ithaca.
And that's what we do here on Good News York.
We like to spread awesome shit about things in New York State.
Speaking of awesome shit, real quick, I don't even know what to make of this.
I don't even know if we're going to talk about it.
But I feel like I can't glaze over this.
We didn't do...
I think we are talking about it.
Tuesday, Newsday, but a genetically engineered chestnut tree is growing right here in Syracuse.
It's moving closer to its step.
It's an experience.
experimental thing, this guy from the State University of New York College of Environmental
Science and Forestry.
So do ESF.
Thank you.
Has been working on this, Dr. Andrew Newhouse.
He's the director, and I guess the American chestnut tree is in danger of being extinct,
and we're going to revive it right now.
Not the chestnut.
I know.
I don't even know what you do other than roast them on an open fire, but apparently it's
important enough to where right here in Syracuse,
We're saving fucking chestnut trees, Matt.
I'm down with it.
You know, Sunni ESF actually has a lot of cool things along those lines.
And they've got the tree of life.
A thousand fruits or whatever the hell it is there.
Oh, I didn't know that.
Where they graft all the different fruits to one tree.
Like every fruit possible is on one tree.
I don't know about every fruit possible, but there's...
Danny might know, but it's like a couple dozen different types that grow off.
Danny, you are our resident fruit.
reporter. He is wearing a Syracuse
Orange. He looks like a fruit.
He rocks the color orange shirt. It's just
a generic orange. I feel like if you wear orange
and you're in Syracuse, by default,
it becomes a Syracuse Orange. Well, I mean,
it's an orange with a face on it, which
leads me to believe that the University is going to sue
him any moment now. You know what?
I think you're right.
That looks a lot like Otto to me.
It's kind of bullshit. They're going to use this tape against you
in court. I would
be remissed. Is that
the right word? If I didn't talk about the
gift you gave me. Oh, today.
Yes. This is, Matt was going to have me open it on air, but literally couldn't wait.
I could. He could not wait. I got it like a week ago and you've been off and out of the office.
Yeah, I've been all over traveling at all of tournaments. Before I reveal what this is,
I, of course, flipped out because I'm like a 10-year-old and I love this kind of stuff.
So first of all, I love you. Thank you for that, for the gift. But this, and I showed him,
As soon as I opened it, it was something that I had saved on my browser.
I saw an ad for it the other day, and I was going to buy it.
And thank God I didn't.
Because if I had, I would have been sad because Matt bought me a goddamn sad trombone.
And for those of you going whoopty, whatever, you're just mad because you don't have a sad trouble.
Mike is going to carry this around and use it in conversation.
I used to have sad trombone, the sound effect, queued up on my phone.
And I would purposely go around and ask my...
wife and my kids questions that I knew they would say no to.
I'd be like, hey guys, feel like going outside, hitting a couple golf balls.
They'd be like, nah.
And I would hit the sad trombone.
So this has, as much as it's a funny little gag gift, this has more meaning.
You bought it for the right person.
Yeah, I thought if anybody could appreciate that, it would be you, buddy.
I love you.
I'm glad.
That really meant a lot to me.
No bullshit.
And, I mean, it pairs well with your law and order gavel.
Yes.
Dun, don't, yes.
TikTok shop has clearly honed in on stupid gag
Sound effect toys to sell me
You know when you see some of these ads
And people will go
Oh, who buys this shit?
It's you.
It's me.
And me.
So one of the benefits of being friends with Matt
Or working for Matt is
He loves all this kind of stuff
And I'm a hoarder
Is this what's the positive side is there?
You're a clean hoarder though
It's not like we walk in and we're stepping over things
You at least try to put them away.
I just keep renting bigger units so I can...
Yeah.
There was a...
I had to open this office just to get the shit out of my house.
Right.
There was a time when we first started
where pretty much every Monday
when we would come back from the weekend,
there would be brand new toys,
brand new equipment, something brand new.
You guys are off on Fridays
and I'm like, what do I do?
I guess I'll shop.
Or just build something.
Like the studio needs something.
some shit. And then, yes, when everything else is quiet, that's when I come in here and
spend all weekend remodeling. Is it, speaking to which, is it too early to talk about
your latest remodel? I think I posted about it. So, um, I didn't necessarily post the
finished product, but, uh, if you haven't seen, if you follow our, uh, growth mode content
pages on social, which you should. Yep. We have a new second studio here at our location in
East Syracuse. It looks great. Um, and we will, we'll probably do it once we're fully ready.
We'll actually just do a good news, York from there, and folks can get to see that.
But, spoiler alert, if you haven't seen it, it looks like every other podcast studio on the planet.
And that's okay.
Intentionally.
That's fine.
Yeah.
Every gas station looks the same.
You still use it.
Here's what's wild.
We've got this massive, I don't know how many thousands of dollars, high-tech, sort of looks like a TV studio.
Studio.
And it's awesome.
And we can do cool stuff.
We can put anything on the background.
We can, you know, watch video.
We can do all this fun stuff.
but depending on the type of content you're making,
the type of podcast you're doing,
maybe this isn't a fit.
Maybe you want something that is that more traditional,
almost like a living room laid back.
More intimate conversation.
Yeah.
So we now have that.
Yeah, it's great.
So we've got the space,
we've got a nice table for two people,
or we can swap that out and put in some armchairs
and be that very, very common,
but it's common because it looks good sort of podcast set.
But it's necessary in,
what we're doing. I think giving options to our clients and to ourselves is important,
you know, especially when you're, you know, one of the, one of the main things I've learned
from you and from this job is consistency and posting often, constantly posting content
is a tough game, but it's necessary. And sometimes you need just a little change of scenery.
And also, if you're going to do it right, depending on.

the genre of podcast you're producing.
You know, I mean, yes, for the most part, we can make the studio be whatever it wants to be.
But I think giving a variety is good.
And you do it right, man.
It looks really nice in there.
Soundproof curtains, the whole nine.
I appreciate it.
Like I said, it came out pretty well.
We're just waiting for some additional curtains, so we're going to have some different color options.
And I got to install some new lights that just can talk about shit that came out.
So you're saying that stuff hasn't come in yet?
That sucks, man.
I already regret it, Danny.
Sorry.
I already regret it.
I handed this to Mike and Danny's just shaking his head.
Danny hates me.
He should just wear a shirt that says unacceptable all the time.
Speaking of wearing a shirt.
I'll tell you something else we've been working on here at Growth Mode content.
What?
Oh, Jesus.
Yeah.
We've been talking about for a long time.
I'm just going to give you a little tease on this.
We're not going to go too in depth.
But we've been talking about for a long time, this concept in the content world, in the
internet world that has taken the United States.
by storm called live social selling.
You've been all over it.
Long story short, it's modern day QVC.
And if you've been on TikTok at all, specifically, you've seen it.
Especially at night.
Yes.
And what it is is it allows any person to go online and just start selling shit.
Right.
So as we're trying to figure this out and explore this world, we need some products to try to test sell.
So hold the fuck.
Hold on.
We now have some swag.
Yeah, you do.
I would like to give you a shout out for diversity
because you've given sizes that I didn't know existed.
2x small.
So our demographic, our infants, all the way up to 6x,
for those of you who are on 1,000 pounds.
So the 1,000-pound sisters cast can order from us as well.
I've never seen a range of sizes that much.
Well, these are custom-made what they call cut and sew,
so they make the fabric for this design
and then assemble the shirt.
So when you do that, you can make it on any side.
What a horrible picture of me.
That's great.
Show Danny's.
Show yourself.
So yeah, I started having some fun.
Danny, and if you want to just click on it, you can zoom in.
That is so good.
Or if you want to show the back.
The back is phenomenal of the Danny shirt.
Oh, I didn't see the back.
Yeah, it's great.
Dude, he's so cute.
Look at that.
Like, if you're in a bad mood, how does that not?
make you smile. Tell me you don't want to walk around town with
dude. Dude, you don't want to hug it.
Yeah, that dude.
Fuck that dude. He doesn't deserve to wear heel.
She does. She's cute.
So we made some fun.
Here's for the casual night out with Danny.
Now here's the thing. I want to be very clear. I don't expect
anybody to buy this.
But, you know, like I said, we needed some sample items. They are available.
You can actually buy it.
You can click checkout.
It'll get shipped to your house in like nine days.
I just.
But, you know, we're getting into this world.
So I'll give you a little peek behind the corner, or behind the curtain, rather.
There's a few different ways to go about this, this live selling.
Now, what a lot of people do, if you fire up TikTok or any of the apps, you'll see people selling.
They're selling another company's products.
And what you can do is if you want to sell that, you can sign up for yourself.
And then you can go find all these products and say, I want to sell cell phone.
you get approval from the company
and you can buy and sell these cell phones
and you make a commission,
a few bucks a pop on whatever item.
The other way you can go is you can have your own items.
You can have your own store
and you can get those things in the TikTok shop,
in the eBay store, in the Amazon store,
all those different things,
and then sell your items, your own items that way.
That's the way we're trying it.
Again, to dip our toe in the water
and just see what's going on.
But I'll tell you,
it's very, very interesting to me.
and I'll give you my initial thoughts as we start this,
and maybe we can track a little bit of how it goes.
But as I look into this, it's an incredible opportunity
because it's popping off and it's literally hidden.
Here's what I mean by that.
eBay is a company that I buy and sell random things, collectibles,
shit like that on eBay, as we've talked about,
almost daily.
I am on that app and on their website on a day.
desktop almost daily. I had no idea eBay had live selling. Yeah. And they do and it's huge.
TikTok does a good job of pushing that to you. Amazon has live selling. You will not find unless you
dig to the bottom of their page. There are so many of these platforms, excuse me, dying here.
There's so many of these platforms that are doing this. They have streamers, they have people that are
on there, they're going live, they're selling products, and they have hundreds, if not
thousands of viewers watching these streams in spite of the fact that it's all hidden like I just
described.
Yeah, why would you?
And so what that tells me is we are so on the ground floor of a coming explosion that
it's insane because when you can hide stuff and still get traction and people are still
selling thousands of dollars an hour and doing all kinds of crazy things with this.
There's an audience, obviously.
Yeah.
And nobody else knows it even exists yet.
So what's that tell you for when it continues to make, you know, it peaks?
Well, and if furthers what I've always said, which is you are always on the cutting edge.
You are always a step ahead of everybody because people don't realize you actually had the first podcast studio in Syracuse.
And I said this a million times.
I came on as a guest when I had my band at the time.
and I remember we got done and I go,
so what is this like radio,
but you can just do it whenever?
Like that's how new it was and you were doing it.
And so if you tell our viewers and listeners
that a live selling is about to blow up,
well, you better listen in.
I mean, here's the thing.
I'm not the expert.
I'm seeing this because I am picking these things up from the experts.
People like Gary Vee and people that are big in the market
and big in trend spotting.
And again, as I've dug more and more into it,
I can see exactly what they're talking.
about and it clearly shows the opportunity.
One of the other things that I've noticed,
and again, maybe I'm given a little bit away,
but this should be pretty obvious to everybody.
The streams that are happening right now,
for the most part, kind of boring.
Yeah.
Imagine an infomercial that's longer than an infomercial
and doesn't necessarily have the high energy elements.
Yeah.
So if you remember an infomercial, you had, you know,
a few minutes of a demonstration,
you had a source of a show demonstration,
super pumped up host. You're going to love this. Everything was action. And then every two minutes or so,
it would go into the regular commercial with the announcer guy and the bitch and the food dehydrator dude.
I used to love it. Encouraging you high energy to buy, buy, buy, buy, buy. These things,
these streams, not so much, right? And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that. But what
that tells me is there's a massive opportunity for folks in the same way that we are creating
content just in general to promote our brands to create live streams.
that are built around a show.
My allergies are fucking get me.
While you're taking the sip,
I think this also brings up the point of,
you know,
you were talking about organic content.
Yeah.
I think people confuse that as much as we,
you know,
we appreciate and we want organic content,
that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a production element
or some energy.
It's completely unplanned, right?
Right.
It's not completely unplanned,
kind of like reality TV, right?
And especially when you're in the selling lane,
I feel like you've got to have a little more than just, well, we'll hit Rick on.
Yeah.
But anyway, go ahead.
You were choking.
You were joking.
Right, buddy.
And that's exactly kind of what I'm seeing as an opportunity is I'm seeing these people,
these people are making content, a live stream as content.
But I don't know that they're necessarily doing the things that a lot of other content
creators are doing to really form that community to make it an entertaining thing.
If I'm not looking to buy a phone today, you should still make it something that I would
stick around and watch that.
Right.
which is where a company like we come in.
Growth mode content.
Which I don't want to speak out of turn,
but we have been talking about this live selling thing.
We have some plans.
And if you are listening or watching
and it is something that you are involved in
or thinking about getting involved in,
stay tuned.
Because I think we could erase that element of,
you know, you come on and sell.
We'll do the producing
and give you the energy and the format.
And maybe you don't even have to come on and sell.
Maybe you just give us your product and we do the whole thing.
There's a few different ways to go about it that, and that's the piece that we're still working out.
But, you know, this is what, to me, I got thinking about this and this sort of really bridges world.
So if you think about it, back in the day, we only had physical retail located.
Brick and more, yeah.
And we liked those because we went there and we could look at the thing and we could talk to a salesperson and ask them questions and do whatever, right?
Then we went to online.
And online's great because it's convenient.
We can buy anything.
Doesn't have to be in stock.
Doesn't have to be the one thing.
But it took forever.
We can do whatever.
But we lost all that personal sales, right?
There's no real asking questions.
There's no whatever.
This live selling format, to me, sort of marries that.
So you get a real human, a real salesperson who you can interact with lie.
And that's the interesting.
You can chat.
You can do whatever.
And you go, hey, does this cell phone do this?
Right.
You couldn't do that on an infomercial.
Exactly.
And so to me, this marries the best of both worlds where you have kind of traditional human selling retail and online.
And I think that that is going to really, really continue to accelerate.
And I think what you're going to see, as much as we're talking about these live streams, these sort of, I keep saying modern day QVC, that's very on the nose, right?
That's its only purpose is to sell the stuff.
You're going to start seeing this integration in regular content.
And you said it best today when we were.
Oh, yeah.
You know, what you're going to see and you're completely right is you're going to tune into a podcast like this.
And as you're watching the video and as you're watching us talk, you can click on this microphone and buy it.
You can click on this TV screen and buy it.
Maybe you like Matt's shirt.
You click on his shirt and they go, you can get it for $39.99, whatever.
We got, you know, our friends that ads on the go, maybe they've got a sponsorship package.
As we're talking, you could click and buy their service.
What do you think this?
That's where you're going to see it.
I agree.
And what do you think this does for the future of brick and mortar?
I mean, that's already having trouble.
You see what the Destiny Mall is going through.
And, you know, how at that point, if this becomes as big as you're projecting,
what is going to get people to still go out other than traveling?
There's always going to be a need to grab and go.
Good.
I hope that.
There's always going to be a need to, I need one of these right now.
And even with the fastest deliveries and Amazon comes the next day, there will always be a day where you need this thing right now.
Good.
So you're always going to have some.
kind of retail.
Sure.
No matter what.
Like future, whatever.
You're going to have some sort of retail.
My theory is that what's going to happen with a lot of more traditional retailers,
and it's already happening, but I think it's going to accelerate, is what was a store
is going to become more of a distribution point.
So as we're all ordering online and my family does it a lot now, even with groceries
and things like that, we don't actually go to the grocery store.
We order them from the local store.
Somebody in the local store shops and puts them in bags and drives them to our house.
That's what my wife and I do that.
We do pick up orders.
It's incredible.
If you go to some of these stores, like the, I think like the East Syracuse Walmart,
you walk in the one entrance and it's not even necessarily an entrance anymore.
It looks like a shipping dock.
And it is nothing but people filling those orders of people who aren't coming in the store anymore.
So again, that's sort of my theory.
No, dude, you nailed it.
That's what I was looking for.
I didn't know what I was looking for, but I thought to myself,
what could it, I don't want to see a bunch of vacant buildings.
You're so right, a distribution.
The reality is if you do it right, right?
Because you're like, well, you could just have warehouses, and that's true.
But if you can find a way to turn a store into a warehouse,
you still have that advantage of the walk-in customer.
Correct.
As long as it doesn't cost you a whole much more to continue to operate that
while you're serving the delivery customers.
And again, there's a lot of business math and shit.
At scale might not work.
I don't know if I've said this before, but I'm going to sound like a complete stoner, and I kind of am.
But I just feel like, remember like when we were growing up high school, college, up until like 15, 10 years ago, maybe even five.
It was like, man, I wonder what it's going to be like in the future, in the future, in the future.
I feel like we are finally in the future.
Whatever we were saying then, like, I think we're in it finally.
Like, I just finally feel like I'm in that.
We don't have the flying cars yet, but other than that, yeah.
Remember, that was the thing in the year 2000.
Like, for some reason, everyone thought on January 1st at 12 a.m., a flying car is going to start.
You know, that was our big thing.
And that did not happen.
And that's probably a good thing.
No.
Have you done the self-driving?
For the best.
I forget what they're called.
Like a taxi that, Uber.
That's a...
Waymos?
Yeah, have you done one?
When you went out to Vegas, no?
No.
When I was in Vegas, and I could be mistaken, but I'm reasonably, they were on the road and I saw them,
but I'm reasonably sure folks told me they are still only in test mode in Vegas.
So they're allowed to drive themselves around the city, but not people yet?
I appreciate that.
I think in California and other places, they are allowed to drive people.
In fact, even our buddy Mike Leesey mentioned he went to a conference or something somewhere and took one.
Oh, that's right.
He did.
He was talking about it.
Because I asked him, I was like, I feel like.
the first thing I would do is I would get a ride from one,
and then I'd be a jerk and leave a review and say,
like, Driver was a dick.
He never talked to me once.
But, yeah, he said it was awesome.
He said it wasn't scary.
It was fine, and, you know, it was just a little weird.
I don't know, man.
I don't know.
We're in the future, man.
Not for me.
Maybe I've seen too many of the sci-fi movies
that predict what happens there,
but I just keep thinking of Terminator.
Here's what's interesting.
They've predicted, and I'd love us to get to this point.
They predicted this technology in cars will be to the point to where it communicates to each other.
So what that means is imagine you're driving down a highway and a mile down the road there's a crash.
The cars can communicate to the other cars on the road and automatically slow themselves down so there's no pile up.
That's insane. That's amazing.
That's kind of what they've talked about as a future.
But I'll be honest, I don't know that I see.
and it's very well happening
and I'm just not paying attention
but I don't know that I see anybody
necessarily working towards that right
because to do that
you're going to have to develop some sort of standard
that every car manufacturer puts in place
and again maybe it's happening behind the scenes
but I haven't quite seen that coordination yet
I had this idea years ago
almost along the same lines I was like
they should come up with an invention
where you can message other drivers
and then I was like that's a terrible idea
because it would be like
FV radio bro screw you
yeah well and there's that as well
break a break dog
Yeah.
Got some smokies on her tail.
Got some smokies on her.
Motherfuckers figured that out.
You got some bogeys on our six.
What's your 20?
We should put CB radios back in passenger vehicles.
It's a terrible.
Yeah, but you know everyone's just going to be like, hey, asshole?
Yeah, you know how many fights that would save if you're just like...
You can just fight on the mic?
Hey, I'm on your side.
Don't fucking come in this lane?
Oh, shit.
Sorry, man.
My bad.
You know, people would just talk shit all day to each other.
Oh, it would be endless.
And I would love that.
Hey, Subaru.
That's a stupid bumper sticker.
Yeah, noice Volvo.
Um, nice electric car.
I don't know.
I don't know, man.
Fun though.
It's a, it's a wild time to be alive.
Uh, again, I feel like we're, we're in the future, dude.
We're, uh, this is just about over, but I got to, I got to end on this final thought here.
Um, I need to get my trombone ready?
No.
Okay.
Uh, maybe Danny can answer this question for us.
You can just nod.
Do you think people younger than us know what a CB radio is?
Oh, sheds.
Do we just, do we just do a whole?
A little bit.
We did.
Because I feel like maybe...
So you're right.
Wait.
I don't know.
Danny's like, do I get that station in my car?
Like, I don't know what that is.
We just showed our age, age, age, age.
CB radio, come on.
How can that die out?
I don't know.
I don't think it was all that popular when we were young.
I was just a nerd.
My buddy had one.
We used to play on it all day.
We would just talk to truckers.
What's your 20?
Dude.
What's your handle?
I used to love it.
On pig skin, 58.
I had, here's a funny.
story.
I was a nerd who was big into CB in
and all that shit when I was a kid.
My uncle was a truck driver.
This was before the days of everybody having cell phones.
And one day he left home without paperwork that he needed
and his truck and started heading down the throughware or whatever.
My aunt
thinking about it, calls my mom.
He says, hey, can you try to get him on the CB and tell him
before he gets to another state and realizes he doesn't have his important shit?
It was a text message before there were text messages.
Dude, and I got him.
And I don't, you know, I had a CB with a home antenna and shit.
Oh, Jesus.
And luckily, he was close enough to wear it.
And it was faint.
But he heard me calling out for him.
That's amazing.
And, and heard me say, you know, call home.
And he stopped and called his wife.
And what a victory back then.
That's like, it's like sending a carrier.
Dude, let me tell you.
As a nerdy teenager who has all this shit.
And like to have a legitimate use for it.
Yeah.
That's just the biggest win.
Absolutely.
Everybody lay, what are you doing all this shit?
And then one day, I used to carry like, and I still do, I have all kinds of, I'm such an old boy scout.
I have all kinds of these emergency supplies in my car, first aid kits, road flares, stuff like this.
Me too.
One time there was a car accident, car hit a deer on a highway, like just over a bend.
And people come flying, right?
And we stopped to help the guy.
I break out a road flare
and set it up and this guy
go, what do you got road fliers for?
What's that for?
For this?
I set it down on the road
and you see the cars
from a mile away,
see it and fucking slow it out.
Bam.
That's why, bro.
Yeah.
It's always good.
Dude, I swear,
if I could go back
into a time machine right now
and hang out and play
with young Matt,
like,
and teenage Matt,
dude,
it would be so fun.
The funny part of that statement
is we hung out
in the same fucking bar.
I know.
But that doesn't,
And, Cal, we were getting out of our...
Watch you playing, like, who was that douchebag with all the
women hanging off in? What the fuck? I don't know about women.
I didn't have women hanging up. No.
Just some fucking rock star with his blonde hair.
Okay. Well, listen,
I... That was
when we were coming out of our dorky CB
phase, CB radio phase. I'm talking, like,
I want to hang out with, like, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12-year-old Matt.
Oh, shit. And we could just fuck around in your room
and play with CB radios and make things blow up.
I can't imagine what you had going on.
We did blow up.
some shit up. He'd be blow some shit out. Yeah. Yeah. We got a lot of blowing shit up. We had a lot of smoke
bombs and I have to, yeah. Yeah, my stink bombs were my feet. My buddy and I just got into playing
with gasoline. We just, you know, what happens? You pour gasoline on things and ignite it.
Okay, that's called being a pyro. Well, yeah, that's a separate thing. You can only get the
smoke bombs certain times a year. So, when you ran out of shit to light up.
Absolutely, which, by the way, Fourth of July coming up, we're going to be off tomorrow.
So happy birthday, Murica. Shout out to all of our friends who will join us next week.
with less fingers than they have today.
They will.
They will.
You're going to listen back to this and go, shit.
Yeah, absolutely.
They were right.
They knew what they.
See, Matt is ahead of his time.
Yeah.
There's nothing more American than blowing off a limb with, you know.
Or Osama bin Laden pizza.
That was your, I mean, that's a whole other.
The second most American thing.
With that, it's been a hectic good news, York.
I got to say, I love all our guests, and I will continue to love our guests.
But buddy, I really love one.
It's just me and you sometimes.
Well, we are the best.
Well, I mean, you said it.
That's obnoxious.
That was rough.
You know what?
That's intended.
You know, that's why we put this together.
That's why we brought you in somebody that we can banter back and forth with it.
As much as we love it.
And I think I've talked about this before.
I love the guess.
I think it's awesome.
It's best.
I think that we have a platform to promote what they're doing and just share the good stories of good people is awesome.
But even to bring it full circle, when, you know, as a Howard Stern listener, people would talk about how great of an interviewer he is, and he is.
He's one of the best on the planet.
But you and I both know the best?
I always enjoyed his show best when it was just him and his guys.
I still do.
That's my favorite is when he talks to all the back office people.
I mean, that's how he.
Him and Robin, him and Gary, you know, all of that.
Making fun of Gary.
Bub, boy.
It's a different feeling.
You know what I mean?
It's joking around with your buddies versus doing something.
mildly serious.
Yeah.
I think that's what it is too.
A lot of it is that, you know, me,
I don't like to be very serious.
So I get to be me with you.
And it's a lot of fun, man.
And, yeah, I'm excited.
It is Good News,
you're sponsored by Ads on the Go,
get ads on the go.com.
We'll be back Monday.
Sounds good.
We have all our digits.
Episode 62 on Monday.
That's crazy.
We are zipping through later next week as well.
We're taking all of our content clients.
We're taking a little adult field trip.
That's going to be fun.
To River Edge Mansion just outside of Clay.
Penelville.
Some fun content out there with them next week.
So that would be kind of cool.
We'll see a bunch of clips from that.
That'll be at the end of the week next week.
And I'm starting to book a lot of guests for July.
We've got some exciting guys, people coming in.
It's a hot podcast summer, my friend.
Hot podcast summer.
All right.
You guys have a great weekend.
Happy Birthday, Merica.
Don't blow your fingers off.
Peace out.
