Starting point is 00:01:15 And I'm Mike Brindisi, Matt Mazer We have a special guest today, very special. We always say special guests This one, she's actually special. Here's the thing. Now let's, do we get to call her a guest Because the reality is. Now that is
Starting point is 00:01:30 The reason that she's here Is to announce that she's joining the team. Yay! Danny, can we get like a fake applause? Real applause? Cheers. button there. We need one of those. You just took Danny's job. He's fired. You have a sad. Never mind. You're rehired. I love the sad trumbra. Jackie Vidler is
Starting point is 00:01:51 joining us bringing her incredible talents and you shouldn't listen to me talk about her. We should listen to her talk about her. Jackie, say hi and tell us who you are and what you do. Yeah, yeah. Jackie doesn't talk about herself very well, but I'm going to do my damnedest. See, this is like professional therapies. 100%. Yes. Yeah. Make everybody better at everything. That's it. I'm, I shouldn't say, I don't. I'm trying to talk better. There you go. But yeah, I'm Jackie Viddler. I own infocate images. It's a photography and videography studio in Solvei and met Matt through our mastermind group and was like, I want to be on board. I want what you got. I want what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Funny. I wasn't invited to the mastermind group. Anyway, proceed. We're starting her own now. Oh, okay, okay. It's called growth mode. I'll check my junk email. She's got it. Yeah. Yeah, I'm excited to be joining growth mode and this amazing team because they already are hitting the ground running with this jogging.
Starting point is 00:03:01 We're trying hard, man. We're very excited to have you with us. Yeah, for sure. What's great is as we're growing this business and going out in the community, everybody knows. you. You're like the most popular photographer in Syracuse. So when we're like, oh, by the way, Jackie's going to be working with us, they just sign on 10 times quicker, which is awesome. Did my face just get red? Because I didn't think that was a thing. No, it's definitely, I didn't think your face could get red. You have a very fair complexion like me.
Starting point is 00:03:30 We've been working with the lights. But that's been my goal from the beginning and knock on something here. I've been incredibly lucky that the timing was right to grab the most talented people that I've known. Don't make me cry. was the guy, I've said this before, Mike was the guy that I pictured for this position as I built this thing. I said, I need a producer. I need a guy who's got at least enough smarts and education to run the board when we need it, but also I have the personality to jump in and help our clients as they make stuff. And that's, that was Mike, as I've known him for years. And then I needed the social media piece and the best social media guy I know happened to be
Starting point is 00:04:06 on the job market right around the time that I needed to hire somebody. And we were able to land Danny. And then I think once we got Danny, you were like, damn, that's legit. Jackie, like, I want to end on this. We'll take you immediately. Very excited, Jackie, to have you on board of the growth mode content team. Thank you. Excited to be here.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Same. We're very excited. One of the things that's really neat and what other people should know is you're not necessarily just more hands on here in the studio, but one of the things that you bring to the table now, and we now have his capabilities of growth mode content, is doing a lot more outside of our studio. So we focused real hard in the beginning in kind of building this space
Starting point is 00:04:47 and we're still very much dialing it in. But most of what we're doing is taking place right here in this room for our clients. You now have the capabilities. You've got the equipment. You've got drones and then the know-how. We're going to be able to go out and shoot some real content out in the field, out in the real world.
Starting point is 00:05:04 And that's the part I'm really excited about. Same. I'm excited to be able to offer to the clients being able to create genuine out of this space. The podcast is amazing, but to be able to go into other small businesses space and create genuine content that resonates with their clientele and then having the posting schedule, like all of it just comes together just seamlessly. And I think it's going to be big for a lot of. It is. For everyone that signs on. What's wild is just as our very beginnings with everybody is showing results.
Starting point is 00:05:43 And I know we've talked about this before. The first couple of videos that dropped for a number of our clients turned into business for them. Already. And they're already getting the compliments out in the world. Hey, I saw your videos. And that's the type of thing that we're going for and build that personal connection. And like you said, we're going to be able to get out there and you're going to be able to see what they're doing. And the podcast is great.
Starting point is 00:06:06 and we talk about a lot of these things, but we'll actually be able to see them in action and even record some podcasts eventually on site in people's place of business or even random locations. We got some fun things planned where we're going to take the team on a field trip and record some cool content
Starting point is 00:06:22 in beautiful places in New York State. We also have clients that, look, having a photographer of your caliber, I would say photographer, videographer, right? It's great to have anyway, right? Just to shoot B-roll. but in our situation a lot of our clients do some really cool shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:40 The pest control, they all pest cast, all of our clients that are realtors showing the homes and the buildings. And being able to do that is great. But being able to do it with the podcast clientele that we have is just going to be killer. Yeah. Because we're listening to these episodes and the things they're talking about and I'm thinking, before we had Jackie, I'm thinking, man, I can't wait until we can actually go do that. And now we can. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:02 It's very exciting. and we're going to definitely keep her busy. We're going to do a lot of cool stuff. But also, she still has her own incredible business, her own incredible studio in Solvei, as she mentioned. Do you want to talk a little bit about the type of stuff that you like to do there as well? Sure.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I appreciate that. Sure. I'm here for growth mode. It's a team effort. Absolutely. We look forward to shooting some stuff at your studio. So I'm going to put that to yours too. So, yeah, like I started pivoting.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I've been in business for. over 15 years. And I started pivoting, realizing that there's so many things to photograph. There's so many video opportunities. But I realized over the past few years that my passion really is empowering people. So I have narrowed it down to empowering small businesses with the content that we're creating and empowering women. So the other side to my business, which is like more of my passion project, which is boudoir photography. So our studio on State Fair Boulevard is 2,400 square feet. I've got bedroom sets, heels from a size 5 and a half to a 12. I've got over 350 outfits of lingerie. So we do everything in-house, hair and makeup. You have a glass of champagne, and it's a whole experience.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I know what I'll be doing with Danny on lunch break. You have me at lingerie in high heels. Oh, sorry, I thought I was thinking. Go ahead. That's awesome. If you could, just tell us a little bit about that because I know that's something that's become more and more popular in the past few years. For sure. Who is your typical customer? What type of lady comes in to do that sort of thing?
Starting point is 00:08:46 I have to say. I have to say. I've done a few men, but typically it's a woman. I have a lot of women who are in the same boat as me who come in and they're good with the 90s aren't being ramp. But mostly it's women who are either engaged and they're doing it for their husband or spouse to be or if they're doing it for Christmas gift, Valentine's Day. But I have such of, they say, what's your target market? I have such a broad spectrum of my target market because I just had a woman come in a couple months ago who was 70. And she was celebrating, she was just doing it for herself, celebrating her.
Starting point is 00:09:26 celebrating her 70th birthday and we just had so much fun. But then I have the young girls who are engaged and I actually had a girl who was going through nursing school or medical school. Okay. And she was just, I'm so spent. I need a day for myself. And that's what she did. She came in to do just to make herself feel empowered.
Starting point is 00:09:47 I can do this. I still got this. I am like all over the spectrum as far as. It sounds like it's a little almost like a spa day where you really pamper yourself a little bit. Yeah, women come in. Like I said, you have a glass of champagne. We pick out outfits and we have more fun than anything. And you get your hair and makeup done. And it's just a day to reflect on yourself and empower yourself. And for me to show you what everyone else sees around you, how you look. Because we look at ourselves as women, even men, not to look at you. Sure. Mike. But we look at ourselves in the mirror. And we see all our imperfections. We don't. see the things that other people see. And that's the unique beauty in each of us.
Starting point is 00:10:33 Mirrors actually break when I look in them. Yeah. I doubt that. It's a weird thing. I've photographed you before. It hasn't broken. You use a mirrorless camera. That was good.
Starting point is 00:10:47 I hate looking in the mirror. I just, is it me or? Yes. I feel like I look better. There's a certain mirror in my house. that makes me look so good. Is that a thing? I think a lot of it has to do with lighting,
Starting point is 00:11:01 but I think some mirrors are bowed and have a different. Because I know, it's like going to the circus and you go into see yourself. It is very much like going to the circus when you see me naked in a mirror. That's very true. They're like, oh, is that the bearded lady? Or the, I, no, I...
Starting point is 00:11:17 Are you using a fun house mirror? I might be. I might be. Let me ask you. My nose is not nearly that big. I don't, so what was the term you used, budro? Say that again? Oh, no, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I was trying to lead you there. Like a horse. You're close. Boudreau? Boudreau. Boudreau. Boudoir. Boudoir. Boudoir.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Is it boudoir. Photography. Is that, clearly here, that's not what you're doing, but is that your main, the main thing? Or do you also do wedding photography? Do you do all sorts of different photography? So I used to, as I was saying before. I used to just take whatever I can. But after so many years of just trying to hone in my focus,
Starting point is 00:12:03 the empowerment part of it is really small businesses doing headshots and doing brandy-neached down. Yes, significantly. And is it, do you find that photographers have to be videographers now? It goes hand-in-hand, right? Or can you just still do straight photography? It really depends on the photographer. If they're willing to, like, and this goes along with any business,
Starting point is 00:12:25 you want to do what you can to see in business. And I feel like now, what's the word I'm looking for? Boudoir. No. You just want to say it now. I do. Can't wait to go home. This new favorite word.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Yeah. Honey, looks when I learned. Boudoir. Yeah. With the drone, because I know you do operate drones, and that's like a kind of a thing now. Do you have to have a license training, or do you just buy one and mess around with it,
Starting point is 00:12:51 and you're good to go? So when you're shooting commercially, you definitely have to have a license. You have to have a part 107 through the FAA, and it's not an easy, like, I bought myself a flight suit when I passed because I just thought I was like, I got a license. Good for you. That's awesome. Top gun, let's go. Do you wear that every time you fly the thing?
Starting point is 00:13:13 I have, yes. Good for you. That's what an awesome. That is awesome. We have to shoot a video where she steps out and do. Talk to me, good. Let's recreate the top gun scene. drones that would be talk to me goose yes then we'll dress up in airline or whatever you call them
Starting point is 00:13:31 air pilot jumpsuits yeah and with that with the drone I actually do construction as well so I have a woman minority certification through the state and federal so I can do all that and but on construction projects around the state that's nice that those companies use that what to track the progress to their projects and stuff like that yeah that's cool that's pretty neat yeah these drones make crazy And it's funny because, like, my kids watch these YouTube videos and some of these high-end content creators. They've got these gorgeous shots that in Hollywood, you might know, I don't know how much you would spend to get a helicopter to get that shot.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Sure. You could do it yourself now. When I went back to school at Ithaca College, shout out to the park school, there's college productions using drones. And we're talking the sweeping coming down. It's unbelievable. You're listening to a podcast right now, driving, working out, walking the dog. Start free at RSS.com What's going on? It is sexy. It is very boudoir. Do you have to, did you have to take like a test?
Starting point is 00:15:31 Did you have to like demonstrate the thing in front of somebody or something? You didn't have to take a physical test. It's literally all so you have to know like the wind. I'm going to butcher this right now because it was a couple years ago that I took it. We don't know the difference. You just make it up. You have to be able to read the maps. You have to know all the things about ATC.
Starting point is 00:15:55 You have to know the different wind currents. Oh, wow. Things like that. Jesus, some legitimate flying things. That's why I bought myself a freaking. Yeah. It's like sniper training. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:05 I assumed it was just a matter of will you not fly in the path of an airplane? And that's the whole thing. I have to learn. There's more to that. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Because you're not able to, you know, there's the weight of the plane. You're not able to fly above 400 feet when you're flying an on an airplane.
Starting point is 00:16:21 What are you doing? The lights are blinking. Keep going. It's driving me nuts. They are blinking. I noticed that too. Our remotes, Danny must have hit something,
Starting point is 00:16:29 and it triggered the lights, and now I'm going to... And I've never been epileptic before, but I think today's the day. Leave me alone. Okay, I have ADD, and it's... Can't... What did you shoot?
Starting point is 00:16:44 A bad guy. Just keep... Can't focus. That is Star Trek. Faser shooting the bed. We have high-end... quality production here. Holy shit.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Wow. That's wild. I don't know why I did that. You can see it now. All right. You know what? It's not look into my mind. I can't even see.
Starting point is 00:17:02 You can't look behind you. You have a third eye for colored lights. Like in the back of your head, you can tell. The color temperature changed three degrees. Hold on. My head says it's 2,800 Kelvin. Stop the press. Stop.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Anyway. Back to you. Oh, shit. I can't even operate an LED light, let alone a drone. It's absolutely amazing what you can do. How long did it take you to... Try they make you get a license. Like, how long did it take you from the first time you flew a drone to when you were like,
Starting point is 00:17:34 okay, like, I got this? So I actually borrowed a buddy of mine's drone, and he taught me how to use it. And then once I got, like, my first gig, I'm like, okay, I didn't charge for it. So I wasn't doing it commercially, so I didn't need my license. And it was like for real estate. It was for a friend. Yeah. And then I just went and got, I studied for a year and a half for the test.
Starting point is 00:17:59 And failed at first time. Damn. Really? And yeah. Is it written and? It's just written. It's just written? But it's not, it's multiple choice.
Starting point is 00:18:09 There's some, but it's all on a computer. So it's not like physically written. There is no actually, it's like cosmetology school. They teach you about everything else but how to apply the makeup. Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. So I had to learn how to...
Starting point is 00:18:23 She's actually qualified now to be an astronaut. No way. I'm going to get drafted. Yeah. It's going to be part of the next time. I was excited. I was like, what do we have? I used to love that on the late night shows where they'd be like, actually, Bob, I brought...
Starting point is 00:18:36 I was like, what is this? Yeah. It was good. We got to do that. We do have to do that. We have so many things. We have so many plans. I could break out the donuts.
Starting point is 00:18:47 That no one's eating. I'm trying to be You ate one Yeah Listen I'm trying to think Donuts are like You know crack to me
Starting point is 00:18:56 I can help it They want to so bad But I'm trying to be good Trying to be good And work out again And now that I'm on This crazy hit show I don't want to
Starting point is 00:19:06 Eat too many donuts That's where I'm getting at I will say Jumping on that Like the amount of views That the podcast has had and the snippets, like, it is incredible just going through. Yeah, that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:19:22 That's one thing I'm excited to be a part of this. We're excited to have you, for real. We're very lucky, and I know I've said this before, but I think we're really lucky that we came into this right as these algorithm changes have hit the whole internet. And in this new world where the quality of the content matters more than anything else, it used to be all about the followers. And it was you could make the coolest video in the world,
Starting point is 00:19:45 but absolutely nobody would see it if you didn't have a million followers. followers already. And so, of course, getting to there was always the nightmare. And it led to these real douchebags being the ones that dominated the internet, for lack of a better term. And they had this following. So it just kept continuing to grow while actual quality information, education, entertainment, it all just sat with zero views. Today, everything has been TikTok-fied. Yes. And it uses what made them really successful was their radically different algorithm that goes out and shows your video to a bunch of people. And if a bunch of people like it, it shows them to more people.
Starting point is 00:20:26 Yeah. And it lets it grow based on the quality of what's in it. And that's how we've had some of our first posts, 10,000 views on one clip. I know. Like, my stupid llama thing. We didn't even show the video. I just talked about it. And I mean this tongue in cheek, but I think if you had asked me a year ago, I don't
Starting point is 00:20:45 think this would have lined up for me. because as someone who's, I'm not trying to sound like, I'm too good, but as someone who spent his entire life on stage and also didn't have done radio, I've worked so hard at honing my craft and getting better.
Starting point is 00:20:57 And there used to be hard to get into, to get on the air. And so it was like these content creators, like you said, it used to be, it would drive me nuts that there was this oversaturation of bullshit, to be honest with it.
Starting point is 00:21:09 And it's what we call organic content now. So for me to say that and to be working here seems contradictory, but because of the, kind of that filter that's been naturally created by at least TikTok's algorithm, it's weeded out that bullshit. They've all stolen it. And the creams kind of rise into the tops because I was always like, I don't,
Starting point is 00:21:27 I don't want to be a part of giving these people that don't belong having a microphone near their mouth, a microphone. And now it's, I think it's where it should be, thankfully. It's getting there. It's getting there. There's still no shortage of people that shouldn't be in front of a microphone. But the opportunities are growing. And people are seeing the value in it.
Starting point is 00:21:45 And that's why we've jumped on this organic content. Jackie's done for years and she's got the skills to shoot you an incredible commercial that you could have seen on television for decades. It's amazing. And there's still a good place for that. But that's not necessarily the best thing on social media world. Where they want that organic, they want that real. And that's what we're doing. That's right.
Starting point is 00:22:06 We just signed up a new client over the weekend, actually, who has a variety of businesses and does a variety of different things. and we are, interestingly enough, just like everybody else, going to focus on her as the person. And that is, the more we go through this, all these different businesses and different business models and people's different goals, at the end of the day, the strategy for everybody is pretty much the same
Starting point is 00:22:30 is we're going to focus on you and let people get to know you as the human. Yeah. After that, all the business stuff is just... It's almost secondary, which sounds crazy, right? When you're like, hey, we want to... You get a podcast once a month, we chop it up, and that's your advertisement. But the business is secondary.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You're like, but that's what we're advertising. But it's true. We've said it a million times. I've said it admonagement. People are going to fall in love with you and then go, oh, wait, what do you do? Sure, I want to do that. People do business with people. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:58 And you made a great point, too, with some of our clients, like all pest. And I can't think of the others off the top of my head, but that they go into your homes. Yeah. That was something that was such a huge thing. Yeah, that would particularly, they're a service business. So you want to be able to trust these people. and Googling nowadays, you can't tell, you know, what's what other than the reviews help, but this is better than a review because you're going to use your own vibes to...
Starting point is 00:23:23 You can see the humans, and in their case, the husband and wife, who are deeply involved in this thing, and you get an idea of the actual people. That's right. Like I said, in their case, that's going to actually be in your home. Yeah. And be around your home. And that's something that I think is absolutely huge for those types of local businesses, more than anything.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Nobody knows who you are Or they think you're a faceless corporation And people aren't really into that Yeah, it was a long time ago Oh God, I'm gonna make myself sound old Back in the day when it was your boy When there was yellow pages When I was a kid in the yellow pages
Starting point is 00:23:56 Remember that shit? And I remember my parents specifically Businesses used to spend so much money on that And I don't know if this is good or vice, bad advice or what But whatever, I retained it I remember some people in my family saying And if you're looking for a service, don't go to the big full page ad because they're like a corporation. They have a ton of money.
Starting point is 00:24:17 You want to look for the smaller name. That's what we're doing, the mom and pop, the husband and wife, that they're not out just to make a buck. They really care. And I don't know if that. But that's like what we're doing is the new age version of that. Yeah. It's not the full page ad. You're getting to see the who they are.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Go for the quarter page. The quarter page. That's the one. That's the. So here's the thing. As crazy as it sounds. those is wild. This is funny.
Starting point is 00:24:42 You're going to take me down bad business memory lane. Yes. But the way these worked, I don't know if you're familiar at all, but the phone books typically came from the phone company. So they would... I've sat on a bunch while driving. They would roll in the advertising price in your phone bill. So it would be locked in. And it was all under contract so you could never cancel.
Starting point is 00:25:03 And by the way, if you couldn't afford your advertisement, then you can't have a phone anymore. What? But it was so insane. insanely expensive because for many businesses, that was 100%. Remember, there was no Google. There was no anything. So if I'm a plumber, the one and only place people's going to go to find a plumber was that book.
Starting point is 00:25:20 So if it cost me in the 90s, $1,000, $2,000 a month for that ad, that's something you're going to pay and it's going to pay for itself. Wow. At the same time for the business, could you imagine that today? Like there was technically like two phone book companies. most people only got one, but even if you had two, you could spend money to be in two spots and everybody in your area would have your ad. Like today, you can't pay for that on Facebook.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Show my ad to everybody in the city of Syracuse. Like you can't. Back then, it was that one spot, so it was worth top dollar. But usually at that price, the only people that could afford the full page was either the company, the big corporate or the lawyers. people. I mean, now we have Clipper. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:10 I don't know what Clipper is. Like a penny saver. Oh, a flyer. Coupon magazine. Yeah. They still have those. The Yellow Paces was a hell of a thing back in the day, man. It was something.
Starting point is 00:26:19 They made a lot of great calls. They made some great money, too. You want to talk about a good commission sales job back in the day? Those, the ones that were good at it and they stuck with it for years. Because, like I said, it was locked in. Everybody had to keep paying. So as a salesperson, you get some good clients under your belt. And you had really.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Really good guaranteed commission for a long time. It was an interesting time. Growing up in the Mohawk Valley originally, your phone book was like this. Yeah. I remember going to visit my mom's side of the family that lived in Westchester County in New York City. Yep. And their phone books were like the Bible.
Starting point is 00:26:56 And I just remember being fascinated by that. Like, what? Those areas, it was so big that it was technically a separate book because you remember ours wasn't. That's right. You had the white and yellow pages. That's one thing. They had the white.
Starting point is 00:27:08 For those I don't remember, the white pages were the homes, the residences. There was every person in town had their name address and phone number in this fucking book that they distributed to every house in town. That's true. Think about how crazy that was. That is crazy. It was wild. But yeah, you had the white pages that were the people and then the yellow that were business. In the bigger areas, they separated them.
Starting point is 00:27:30 So they were two different books. I'm a glass half full guy. So if they didn't have the name and address on the phone. books, there would have been less murder and we wouldn't have had unsolved mysteries, 60 minutes. Dude, it made for some good stuff. It did. It made... The other thing you used to do, and it just reminded me, we went out, you guys are going to see a video in a little bit of a phone system install that we did.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Danny went down and shot some stuff with us. But interestingly enough, the old phone system we replaced was sold, in fact, that it had no sort of display and no caller ID. So they were answering phones like it was the 90s. And I don't know if you guys remember that shit. Yes, I do. But we had no idea. It was completely blind. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:28:12 The wall would start ringing and you just had to grab it and then speak to whoever you unfortunately picked up. Crapshoot. Was your grandmother or a bill collector or the police? Is it the ex-girlfriend? Yep. Fuck, I got a talk. Yeah. That's the way.
Starting point is 00:28:29 You remember that? Answering blind? Do you imagine doing such a thing these days? Remember party lines? Oh my gosh. Wow. That was wild. Party lines.
Starting point is 00:28:40 Or I remember the old dial-up modem. You're listening to a podcast right now, driving, working out, walking the dog. Pull my chain.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Get up the phone line. Yeah, people don't understand that. We used to have to tie up our phone lines to get online. You guys don't understand what we went through. Kids today. I've seen one of these videos that they showed some teenagers today, some like typical 90s stuff and tried to ask them. Like dial-ups.
Starting point is 00:29:33 What's dial-up? And they're like, what? The kids didn't get hardly any of them. Yeah. What's a Zima? Oh, shit. Oh, man. You never got that one.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Now, I don't remember if this was like just the circle I ran with or if it was a thing. When I think of Zima, I remember some girls in my life that would put skittles. Yep. Okay. Yep. But you and I are from the same area now. That was a thing. We grew up in the Mock Valley and they would put skittles in the Zeeals.
Starting point is 00:29:59 which would flavor it more, but it would make it change colors. Oh, that's cool. Yeah. I don't know if it was cool then. It was like a wine cooler. I think I was like 14 when I started drinking. Me too. I didn't say that.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Seamas were expensive, though. We didn't drink those. Oh, that was bougie. That was boudoir. We were drinking PBRs before then. Hell yeah. Old Mill bar bottles. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:30:22 Drinking in the middle of a park. What was it? Natty Ice. Natty Ice. Came in the 30-packed. Oh, BlackBand. The cheapest beer. you could get.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Yeah. And it honestly wasn't horrible beer. No, not for what we were doing. No. Not that anybody cared. Do people still party in the woods? I was wondering that. I think so.
Starting point is 00:30:40 I really hope so. Because I am telling you, if you're out there and you are an underage drinker, you don't do it. But you are missing out. Like some of the best memories I have. This is before cell phones. We would go to a gravel pit, to a state land, to a back dirt road. I remember it would be a Friday afternoon.
Starting point is 00:31:00 I think I just spit all over you. I'm sorry, I was very excited. We'd be a Friday afternoon, no cell phones, so we would have to find out in school, where's the party tonight, where's the party? And then it would be like three o'clock, bell rings. All the guys in the pickup trucks would go up to East Herkimer, and they would load it up with pallets,
Starting point is 00:31:16 drop it off at the place we were partying, and then later that night, light the pallets, and it was Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, and beers, and it was the best. It was the best. And I hope kids still do that. So here's the thing. I don't know if they do.
Starting point is 00:31:29 This is going to be my real hot take. I'm going to get canceled for this. But good. Kids drink considerably less these days. Oh, yeah. And part of me fears that's a bad thing for exactly the reasons that you point out because I don't know that they're having those experiences. I know.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Now at the same time, like one out of every 200 high school kids died at one of those parties somewhere along. Like you can hear those stories. Oh, yeah. I have a cousin who got drunk and fell down a cliff. There was a lot of four. You know, like crash into a tree. Because he was stupid, so it's better that nobody does anything ever.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Because of that. But no. Well, people are just more hermets nowadays. Yeah. And that's sad. There's also a lot. We used to have. Now, tell me if it was like this.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Now, for those who don't know, we lived in neighboring small towns. By the way, hated each other. Yeah, cake eaters and pizza pusher. That's it. I was a pizza pusher. He was a cake eater. Damn, cake eater from way back. But we had these party spots in the woods where the two groups of kids that didn't like each other.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Oh, yeah. would share the party spot because that was the only place to go party. So it was the weirdest thing that they didn't like each other but they would coordinate on where we're going to party this weekend and who's going to bring the booze and shit. Crazy shit.
Starting point is 00:32:39 I ran with some guys from Illian and I've been to a few of the party spots. There was a guy, I don't want to say his name on here. I'll tell you off the air, but his family or dad owned a very big towing company. I know Bill. Yeah, yeah. I remember partying on his.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Yes. And that was some shit. I could tell you some stories. That was a wild time. Wild time. Yes. And that's the thing. I want kids to experience that.
Starting point is 00:33:04 I guess to answer your question half asked, it would be, I do think it is a bad thing that people aren't drinking as much. I want them to be able to experience that. But then at some point in their life, be able to say, I'm not going to drink any. I'm cool with less of the dangerous. Don't get me wrong. Don't think that I want kids to be drunk and reckless. Absolutely not. But I just worry about the other experiences that went through that.
Starting point is 00:33:25 Like you said was like the... I want you to be able to say, oh, my God, remember that time we were partying at such and such and we were carrying all the beer on our way home and it ripped and then I fell and my underwear. You know what I mean? That's the stuff. Where'd you guys used to go in Herkimer?
Starting point is 00:33:42 Oh, God. The state land it was called, which was in the middle of nowhere. There was Broat Road, which was a dirt road. There was the gravel pit in East Herkimer, which was like a very... The T-Mew version of a... quarry.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Remind me where that was. That was like... The gravel pit was up behind Boces. Yeah, okay. Got it. Yep. There was Brookwood Park. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:04 That was downtown near the high school, right around the corner from the high school. There was the other... There was so many. And then there was always the East Herkimer Hicks, as we would call them. They would probably call themselves that. That had their own land and we would party on that all, like a bill. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:18 That we won't say is last night. That's wild. It's so funny how the narratives changed, too, because... And I don't know for you, again, because we grew up in the same... area but it was like back then if you got caught drinking alcohol underage whether it was the cops or teacher boys will be boys or kids will be kids and if you got caught like just taking a puff of a joint you had to stop hanging out with your friend you got to go to drug counseling you're gonna go nowhere in life and what's
Starting point is 00:34:45 funny is the irony is that nowadays it's flipped like science and just life in reality showed us taking home weed is so much safer than alcohol but man that's that I don't think our generation will be able to shake because it's like they pounded it into our heads that like we're going to hell and you're going to jail got what I smell that the devil's lattice don't you smoke the devil's lattice you know what I mean it was just like sorry I apologize smoke a joint calm down yeah there's always the people that need it the most that yeah yeah point the finger 100% but listen man before we get out of here for today this has been a great Monday, by the way. Very great. This is one of the best
Starting point is 00:35:27 Mondays I have a good Monday, but when you start out with somebody awesome, like, Jackie, joining the team, joining the show today. It's pretty awesome. I just got to ask you about this, buddy, because we're getting through the month of March. I'm seeing all these sports people who I am not. Talk about March Madness. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:35:43 I'm one of those sports people. Sports fanatic. I don't... Is this a soccer thing? What is... Oh, wow. Great. That was a great lead in. It is far from a soccer thing. March Madness. I don't know anything about sports. So March Madness. Madness, that's just the name they call it, because it's in March and it's Matt.
Starting point is 00:35:58 It's usually March 7th. I thought it was a car sale. Everybody's bracket gets busted. But essentially, what happens is 64. So I don't know the exact number, but there's 200 and something D1 colleges. Okay. With basketball programs. Oh, basketball.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Okay. It's basketball, yes. And the reason you probably don't know about is that Syracuse sucks for the first time. Yes, that's the orange ball with the net. I'm wearing a Syracuse head. I'm going to get for. So, essentially. Essentially, 64 teams make it into this bracket.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Okay. Okay. And there's one through 16 seeds. So the teams that just squeeze in. So this is like the finals for the season? Is that what happened? So it's a big tournament that goes for the half of March. And usually the championship is at the beginning of April, I believe, the national championship.
Starting point is 00:36:44 And it starts on. And this is what dudes and office jobs bet on, right? Yes, all the time. And this starts this Thursday. And the first weekend's the best because it starts on a Thursday at like noon. and it is four different channels. I don't call them channels anybody. TBS, TNT, CBS and whatever.
Starting point is 00:37:02 True TV, it used to be. And there are games on from noon until 10 o'clock at night for the first week because there's so many teams. And then as the weeks go on, it gets spaced out more. But it's just, and you fill out these brackets. And what's fun is if you have no idea what the hell it is, like you guys have claimed, it's still a blast. Because you are...
Starting point is 00:37:20 It's like bingo. It's like bingo. But it's like you're going to be the one that wins, you're going to be like, but I think a cavalier would beat a coyote. You know what I mean? And so I'll pick that team. I don't even know what a cavalier is. But anyway. The first and only time I ever played fantasy football, I sat through the draft and I had
Starting point is 00:37:35 some handout that they gave that showed like the best draft picks. And I grabbed the best one I could get when it was my turn every time. I never traded a single player and I won. There you go. And it's just fun. And if any, if nothing else, it just gives you, if you, for a guy like you, if you have to be around it. Like if you know you're going to be around people talking about it or you.
Starting point is 00:37:54 you know it's going to be on and you're not into it, just do the damn bracket so it gives you a rooting interest. Because then you'll go, oh, cool. I hope Kentucky wins. And it gets real fun because there's always upsets. That's what makes it so much fun is there's always a 16 seed. Not always, but sometimes there's a 16 seed that knocks off a one scene and it's fucking mind-blowing.
Starting point is 00:38:12 It just breaks everybody's brackets. But it's just fun. It's fun. Okay. Okay. So who's, I don't know if we're giving anything away here, but who's your one to win it off? So here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:38:22 I wish I'd know we're going to do this. I have in my phone calendar today to go through and fill out my brackets. But I'll say early on. He scheduled time to do it. Early on, I hate to go chalk, which means you're just going to go with the one seeds. But it's hard to bet against Florida.
Starting point is 00:38:36 It's hard to bet against even Tennessee, even though they lost to Florida yesterday. But that's a whole different story. I like Texas Tech. They're a three seed. I really like Rick Petino and St. John's. Rick Patino. Coaching, especially in basketball,
Starting point is 00:38:50 makes such a huge difference. I'm left Q's. shitty since then, right? Like, in other sports, sometimes... Is it fair to say that in college basketball, the coaches the big celebrity versus like the big name players at the NBA? That's actually pretty fair. Yeah, guys like Bill Self are in it, Rick Petino,
Starting point is 00:39:09 I think John Calapari, like those kind of guys, those are the big names. And sometimes that was my method, I'll give it away. Sometimes when I'd get down in the bracket and I'd go, I can't decide, I would go coach versus coach. I'm like, he's a way better coach. Because in my opinion, I think in basketball, you see a really immediate correlation between the quality coach and the team. In other sports, it's like you can have a shitty coach and a really good team and they could squeak by.
Starting point is 00:39:36 And it's almost like the reverse in college. But yeah, I have to look. But if you're asking me now, Florida is one of my favorites. I really like St. John's, Texas Tech. I don't trust Houston. Shouldn't be taking notes. I should be looking. If I could look, I'd be able to give you a better answer.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Okay. You can take us through this. So since I don't know anything about this, you can continue to take us through. Well, it's through March so we can. That's what I'm saying. Let us know how it's going. Yeah, and I can let you know if I have any upsets that work. Tell me what goofy things and let me know when the bills are in the playoffs and we'll figure it out.
Starting point is 00:40:06 Yep, yep. Sports ball, right? Sports ball, yeah. I should give you a shirt that just says sports. Here's the thing. Like, I have had Syracuse football season tickets for three years now and I've never been a big football fan. And I enjoy that. So you're there and you're like, it's almost.
Starting point is 00:40:22 like a live concert. A live sporting event is just a fun people activity. I think we're going to go to baseball game sometime soon. And it's not something. I'm super. I'm not one of these guys that knows the stats or the teams or any of that. I don't give a shit, to be completely honest with you. Sure. But to have a good time with people, that's where it's at. Just never gotten into basketball.
Starting point is 00:40:41 It's okay. To me, it just reminds me a ping pong. And like any sport that gets up to the hundreds of points, I feel like, come on, this is, this is too much. It's a lot of points. It is. It's a lot of points. sit through. But look, we need people like you that don't give a shit. You know what I'm saying? It's okay. I always hear, I can't stand when people do the thing where they're
Starting point is 00:41:00 like, oh, I got, remember that part in Braveheart? And you're like, I never saw Brave-Ward. What? You never saw Braveheart? You should be fair, that's a whole other story. But I'm saying, like, you don't watch basketball? What's wrong with you? Dude, fuck. Different strokes, different folks.
Starting point is 00:41:16 I've had a lot of strokes. We're... What? Springsteen? I said, go sports team. Oh, I thought you said, go-sports. I was like, okay. I'm debating if we should get into ripping you apart for not seeing any good television ever in your life.
Starting point is 00:41:29 What are you talking about? What good television haven't I seen? Trailer park boy? You told me you haven't seen Parks and Rec. Shit, you got me there. Yeah. Look, I... Here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:41:40 Now, I'll be fair. I don't want to break your balls on this too much because I was a very late comer to Parks and Rec. It's been a few years now and it was after it was over that I got into it. It's probably the best. Best comedy ever made. I believe you.
Starting point is 00:41:54 And I'll watch it. And I'm telling you, it's almost, a little bit, I'm almost jealous because it's one of those things. You wish you could go back? I wish I had something that awesome to look forward to. Enjoy. Have you seen Brooklyn Nine? So I am about to start that. And by the way, Parks and Rec is in my queue.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Brooklyn Nine-Nine is in my queue. I just started. What's the guy there, Sadecas, the soccer coach? I know you're talking about. Thank you, Danny. Ted Lassow. I just started. So when I'm done with Ted Lassow,
Starting point is 00:42:24 I will move on to Parks and Rec next. I just don't have the time. I guess I have the time, but I have a lot of other things going on. So it's not because I don't care. It's just because I'm not the time. I'm really defending myself. I know you're so serious about it.
Starting point is 00:42:37 Here's what hooked me on Brooklyn 9-9. I saw a clip of the lineup where they do the boy band thing, where they sing, I want it that way. And it was one of funniest things I've ever seen in my life. And I was like, okay, I'm going to watch that show.
Starting point is 00:42:50 Yeah. I will re-watch it. it after I'm done with that. Some of them hook me at. I've watched The Office. That's one of my favorite of all time. I've watched songs of anarchy, breaking bad. I'm just always late.
Starting point is 00:43:00 I understand. You know what I mean? If you haven't seen nine, that's a good one to follow us. That sounds good. The one that I have not seen that they've been hooking me real good with these commercials. I got the, is it called?
Starting point is 00:43:12 Is it called? Oh, no. Yeah. Walton Goggins. He's like a preacher. Maybe that is it. Is that the right? It looks awesome.
Starting point is 00:43:20 I love that, dude. seen this. Oh my God. This ties into what we were talking about earlier when you're talking about the way organic contents come along and drone shots and everyone can do it. There is, and I'm not saying this a bad thing. There's just a complete oversaturation now in the TV and movie market. I just can't keep up. You got to watch White Lotus. You got to watch Parks and Rec. I'm going to get there. But it's just, there's- What's ironic about that is every time I go to watch, I feel like there's nothing to fucking watch. That's the other thing. And we- I have every damn streaming service. There is.
Starting point is 00:43:50 The end of the night is when I, that's for me, that's when I finally have time. Kids are in bed. All right, here we go. Then what do I do? I scroll through whatever it is, Hulu, Netflix, for an hour trying to pick one and I fall asleep with the goddamn remote in my name. And nothing gets done. That's why I get really excited when I find one of those. So here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:44:09 I have less time than probably anybody ever. I believe that. If I don't break away from work, my brain will never stop. 100%. And it'll just fucking drive. drive me in crazy and I'll never get to sleep. So there's, I designate time. Like, I have to be mindless and invest myself in some goofy TV show for a couple hours late at night.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Just lose yourself. Yeah. It's nice once in a while. You get in some of those? Last year I found suits. I got fucking obsessed. I watched probably all of the seasons and very small amount of time. Let's do.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Name one show, maybe two. one show or two shows that not a lot of people know about and it or have been canceled that you have to go back and watch. Well, before I want to do that, but before we do that, I want to ask Jackie, have you seen,
Starting point is 00:45:00 and I want to give you a recommendation to Mike, have you seen Letter Kenny? No, that's in my cue. Trailer Park Boys. Yes. Okay. See, I'm trying to give him,
Starting point is 00:45:10 of the two great Canadian shows, which one should be well-enaded. Trailor Park Boys is older. It is. Let me... I feel, you know what? You got to watch that one first. Which one? Trailer Park Boys.
Starting point is 00:45:22 Okay. Yeah. Done. Yeah, that's the one you've been pissed about, so I got it. Bubbles. Maybe I'll just stop watching Ted Lasson and just be like, I'll go back to it. I'll watch this for my boss. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Ted Lassow is pretty good. It is good. It is good so far. I'll tell you what. One of the things that I find most endearing about trailer park boys is when I was first introduced to it many years ago. It was so long ago, actually, that it was being passed around on bootleg CDs. Oh, Jesus. And it was like, here's this Canadian, and they were all rips from that, because it was on Canadian television.
Starting point is 00:45:51 That makes it cooler. Like here are the rips from the actual Canadian TV long before Netflix bought it or anything. So we used to have these. It's cool. When we used to hand out bootleg CDs of shit. God damn. It was old episodes. It was probably like 400 resolution horrible TV capture shit, but.
Starting point is 00:46:07 We found floppy disks in our nose. That's crazy. All right. I'm putting them on the wall. Either underrated show that you have to watch. Or a show that got canceled too early and you want them to bring back because it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:46:21 I'll start. Go for it. There is a show that was three seasons in 2015, I think, 14, 2014. And it was called Lily Hammer with Stevie Van Zant of the East Street Band. And he essentially... Silvio Dante.
Starting point is 00:46:39 That's right. But he essentially plays the same character, which is hilarious, and it's not a good advertisement for it because you're like, why would I want to watch it? I'm telling you. I don't think his acting chops are that far and wide.
Starting point is 00:46:51 He's basically playing the same character. Most of those soprano's guys weren't really acting. Well. So the idea is he's a former mob boss that goes in witness protection, and he goes to Lillehammer because he saw it on the Olympics. The name of a town. He goes to Lilliehammer. Oh, God, help me.
Starting point is 00:47:06 I don't want to sound like an idiot. I don't know. Yeah, I think Norway. Okay. Lillhammer. Somewhere in Europe. Norway. That's where they had the Olympics.
Starting point is 00:47:11 Anyway, he saw the, because there was the Olympics in the 90s there. Okay. And he saw the Olympics. He loves the Olympics. the Olympics. And because he saw Lily Hammer and it looked cool and he loves the Olympics, he decides that's where he wants them to place him. Fair. So now he's in the middle of, it's winter, all day, all night. And he starts trying to blend in, but he can't help it. And he just starts kind of getting back into the mob life, but in Norway. And it's funny. It's
Starting point is 00:47:35 action-packed. I have no idea how it got canceled. Interesting. Lilliehammer, check out. How many seasons are there? Three. Three season. All right. It's really quality. That's mine. That's my bring it back. You got one, Jackie? I really don't. How about an underrated one that, like, it's not crazy popular, but, like, I'm telling you it's awesome. If you want to go full, girly, I feel like, Virgin River. Virgin River. Yeah, that was.
Starting point is 00:48:02 That is, that's the name. What is that on? That's the name of Danny's bathtub. Just kidding. It's on Netflix. Okay. It was just a girl who lost her husband, moved. She's a doctor.
Starting point is 00:48:16 moved to this small town called Virgin River ends up falling in love with the guy who owns the bar. Sounds like a Hallmark movie. Yeah, basically. But it's, I don't even know how many seasons. Oh, wow. Like, it's one of those things that I put on while I'm editing. Is it one of those kind of like Gilmore girls
Starting point is 00:48:34 where it's a guilty pleasure for men too? Or is it like total, like, girly? No, I think it'd be. Yeah, I think so. I get into that shit. I love girly stuff. I watched The Bachelor for a long time. I don't anymore, but.
Starting point is 00:48:47 See, that's one thing I can never get into. I can never get into the bachelor. We'd go more viral if we did like Bachelor analysis content. Be completely honest with you. I don't want to. I would rather not go viral to be honest. The more you've talked, the more answers that I've come up with. You can say them all.
Starting point is 00:49:04 Yeah. I fucking own this place. That's true. No. When you say a show that got canceled too soon, there is always one ultimate answer, which is my life. Oh my God. The best show ever.
Starting point is 00:49:18 Jared Leto. What a 7. What a dude. I fucking hate that guy still. I know. If you were in the 90, so that was big in the 90s. Fuck Jordan Catalano. Dude, Jordan Catalano was you, if you were, it's that old, if you were a girl, you wanted to sleep with him.
Starting point is 00:49:34 If you were a boy or a man, you wanted to be him. Like, Jared Letto. And still, he's one of those guys that doesn't hate. Still a douchebag. You think he's a douchebag in real life? I'm positive. Oh, do you have a experience? No, I just don't look at the dude.
Starting point is 00:49:47 I'm excited. He's now a singer-year-old fucking rock singer still. How are you not going to be a douchebe? I'm glad I don't play music anymore. He did broke it. Who was the girl Ria? Who was the girl with the colored hair?
Starting point is 00:50:01 She was so. Ria? Rie? He just totally lost it, too. Re? You have no idea what we're talking about, do you? You never watched my soul called love. No, I did.
Starting point is 00:50:09 It was a staple of 90s pop culture. It is 90s pop culture. The best. But keep going to do. going you said you had more still love Claire Dane's let's see alias did you ever watch the show alias heard about it was on ABC back in the day with Jennifer Gardner is how she got her start really action show okay with mixed with sci-fi Bradley Cooper was in it in the beginning big name it was fucking awesome okay and it got canceled abruptly when she got pregnant
Starting point is 00:50:34 and they couldn't figure out how to deal with it they're like I we'll just end the fucking show wow that's a it's a great way it's been a flex well it is what was the third one I had a third one Oh, not really got canceled. Ended too soon. No. Or it's just good. I just totally blank down the fucking name of it. It is an incredible British one.
Starting point is 00:50:52 They just did a new spin-off of it. Orphan Black. Orphan Black. I've seen that team. This is awesome. So the whole thing, it's about cloning. Oh. And this girl discovers that she's a clone.
Starting point is 00:51:08 And then it goes through the story and she finds a couple other clones of her and they band together and they do all this shit. But the wildest part about it is all of the clones are played by the same girl. And so the same person is like eight different characters. And the nutty professor. You look at them and you're like, that one's super hot.
Starting point is 00:51:31 That one's not at all. They're the same person. That's cool. It's wild. But it's also a really good multiple seasons. All about like genetic engineering and like cloning and all this. crazy shit. That's cool. Mysterious. It's pretty cool. And then just
Starting point is 00:51:46 recently, there's just been one season of a spin-off that's, I don't know, 20 years later or something, where the woman's daughter is now the star. She's an adult scientist and it's a whole other thing. Just really good. The fact that it has a spin-off gives you more validity because that means the show must
Starting point is 00:52:02 have been good enough to do a spin-off. Dude, it was solid. I want to say it's four or five seasons. Have you ever witnessed in a show or movie where there's like these supporting characters that were so strong that you were like they should do a spin-off of those characters
Starting point is 00:52:19 but they don't. That happened to me in you probably never watched the league it was like about fantasy football believe it or not it sounds terrible like how can you have a show about fantasy but it was fantastic. It had like trailer park boy vibes
Starting point is 00:52:31 very indie but it was on Netflix or whatever yeah hilarious. There were two characters in this episode there were guest characters who's Seth? Seth Rogen Seth Rogen And I forget who the other actor
Starting point is 00:52:44 Was an A-lister And they were in only for one episode Where it was a dream sequence And they were like these big Okay I don't know But anyway Drug Lords
Starting point is 00:52:53 But they were It was hilarious And I was like I would watch an entire show based Like Itchy and Scratchy I wish itchy and Scratchy From the Simpsons Became its own thing
Starting point is 00:53:02 Big, it's heavy It's wood All Renan Stimpy Yeah Ren and Stimpy They're classic I love that I thought about this
Starting point is 00:53:09 all die. That's true. But we should probably stop. We should go. We should go. Jackie. There's some actual work. Vidler.
