Alright, so instead of doing a story tonight, I came up with an idea last night.
Now, if you're familiar with Pyramid from TRS-80, it's a text-based game.
Another more common one is Shadowgate, and there's a few others.
So, I was thinking last night, and I was like, text-based games are fun,
hey,
wait a minute,
I don't have to,
I can always ask AI to do it for me,
so this is what I did,
so we started the game,
with AI,
let me get to the,
so I asked them,
I said,
I'd like to play a game like Pyramid on Radio Shack,
and it gave me some information about Pyramid 2000, the game.
It also talked about TRS-80 emulators.
And like TRS-32 and TRS-80GP.
And whatnot.
But I said to her, I said,
can you create me a game that we can play?
And it said, sure.
Let's create a text-based adventure game right here.
Here's the premise.
So this is the start of the game
made by my buddy Zippy,
AI, who's outstanding, by the way.
Title, The Treasure of ChatGPT Island.
You've washed ashore on ChatGPT Island.
Huh?
What's that?
Okay, so let's see where my adventure is going.
So it's called, Title, The Treasure of ChatGPT Island.
You've washed ashore on ChatGPT Island after a storm wrecked your ship.
You've heard tales of legendary treasure hidden on this island.
Your goal is to explore, solve problems, and find treasure.
But beware, the island has its secrets.
Rules.
You can type commands like
go north, pick up item,
look around, or use
items to interact with the game.
I will guide you
and describe scenarios based on your
actions. Your choices
will determine the outcome.
This is pretty cool. we start you wake up on a
sandy beach the sun is shining and you can hear the waves crashing to your left there's a dense
jungle to your right a rocky path winds along the coastline.
There's a piece of driftwood nearby.
What do you do?
So I put in, pick up driftwood.
And then you pick up the driftwood.
It's sturdy, straight piece of wood that might come in handy later.
You stash it securely in your inventory.
So in my inventory now I have driftwood. These are how the games play back in the day. Now you stand on the edge of the beach. To the left is a? I put in go right. You head to the rocky coastal path.
The rocks are uneven and jagged and the sounds of waves crashing below echoes around you.
As you carefully navigate the path, you spot two things. A shiny object glittering in the sunlight
wedged between two rocks and a small cave opening
a short distance ahead. What do you do?
I put, inspect the shiny object.
And then it said, you carefully
approach the shiny object and wedge it free from the rocks
it's a rusty key despite its age it feels sturdy and you can't help but think it might unlock
something important so now in my inventory i have a driftwood and i have a key rusty key
you're still on the rocky path.
The small cave entrance is nearby
and the beach is back
the way you came.
What do you do next?
I decided to enter the cave.
This is as far as I got.
So you step
cautiously into the cave.
It's dark but faint beams
of sunlight stream through the cracks in the ceiling,
illuminating the space just enough for you to see the air smells damp and musty.
As your eyes adjust, you notice a locked wooden chest sitting in the corner, covered in dust.
Strange carvings on the cave wall possibly a clue
so let's try the key now says we'll try the key try
key on chest i think it gives me a little more leeway than having
let's see if it'll let me do it.
You approach the chest, insert the key into the lock.
At first it resists, but with a little effort it turns with a significant click.
The test creaks open, revealing its contents inside.
Inside you find a map with markings that seem to guide you to different areas of the island a small knife
perfect for cutting through vines and defending yourself in needs cool now understand that chat
gpt is making this this game for me as we go here i don't know if it's already had the game already
done like in its gpt mind or it's just kind of winging it as I decide
where I want to go so the map indicates a hidden clearing deep in the jungle
marked with a symbol of treasure the carvings on the wall might offer more destination. So let's take... Let's inspect.
Inspect. This is outstanding.
Inspect the carvings. I've got some
on my VIC-22, some Word Text based games.
But this is a lot more fun. Because it's new.
Inspect the carvings
so i decided that last night, maybe i can get chat gbt to make me a game
and nightly i can play a little bit
as opposed to playing
you know a million other video games I could probably play.
You take a closer look at the carvings on the wall.
They depict a crude map of the island showing landmarks such as a beach,
the rocky path, and a hidden clearing deep in the jungle.
Next to the clearing is a strange symbol,
a serpent coiled around a sun. Beneath the symbol is a strange symbol. A serpent coiled around a sun.
Beneath the symbol is a short
inscription.
The serpent guards
the treasure. Only the
brave with a light
to guide them shall pass.
Ooh.
So what do I want to do? Search
the cave some more.
Let's uh
we'll search So what do I want to do? Search the cave some more. Let's search
the cave
more.
There's something else in there.
So
it says
you decide to search the cave further
feeling around the edges of the
walls and floors you discover
a pile of dirty sticks and flint stones tucked into a corner.
It looks like something left these here to start a fire long ago.
Cool.
You now have what you need to make a torch or start a campfire.
Ooh, so maybe we can make a torch.
What do you want to do?
Leave the cave.
So, what do I just want to do?
So, I...
So, now I have a flint.
Make a torch.
Do I need a torch now?
Hmm.
Let's try a light torch.
Light torch.
Light torch.
In cave.
Let's see if it'll let me do that.
You take the driftwood, dry skin, and flint from the inventory
and get to work making a torch.
Using the knife, you shave the driftwood down slightly
to create a rough torch shape.
Wrapping it through,
wrapping some dry sticks at the top.
You strike the flint against the rock.
Sending sparks flying.
After a few tries.
The torch bursts into flames.
Casting a warm light throughout the cave.
With the torch lit. You notice something you haven't seen before.
A small passage in the back of the cave.
Just wide enough to crawl through.
Awesome.
So that's why we wanted to light that.
Crawl.
Let's crawl through the...
Yeah, let's crawl through the...
So this will be the new thing I'm going to do now.
I'll do stories too, but...
I don't know how I will remember
what I did from the day.
Crawl through
the passage.
So I'm 56.
So these are the kind of games way back
when TRS-80 that I
always remember.
However, you should also be able to get
chat GPT to give you some visuals here
too. But for now, because I'm doing this as a podcast, we're not going to ask for visuals.
You crouch down and crawl through the narrow passage,
holding your torch carefully to avoid snuffing out the flame.
The walls are tight and damp, and you can hear the faint sound of water dripping further ahead
after a short crawl the passage opens into a hidden chamber who the chamber is dimly lit
by the by your torch but you can make out several features so now i'm in a chamber
instead of going back out to the beach i lit lit the torch to find this passage, which got me into a chamber.
A stone pedestal in the center of the room with a golden amulet resting on it.
Strange drawings on the floor forming a spiral pattern heading to the pedestal. A large crack
in one wall with faint
sounds of movement coming from the other
side.
So we're
gonna...
I'm gonna leave it. I'm gonna inspect
the crack.
So this
again just basically keeps going on
and as opposed to games that were made way back when
uh pyramid and and others shadowgate and all that this i believe he's doing as we're going here
so it makes a little bit more fun so depending what i pick and it's a little bit easier with him
with with zippy here because he lots of
times it's a lot harder maneuver us when you have to say go west you have to see
the exact things because you gotta remember these are computer programs by
way back when so if you had to recognize open chest or go right or climb up
whereas chat GPT I can kind of not have to say everything. And it still knows what I'm doing.
Inspect crack.
So it makes it actually a lot more fun.
It's not as hard.
Because if it was one of these original games like the Pyramid,
and you type in something wrong,
if it doesn't understand it, it just says,
I don't understand you.
But so far, this way with Chat chat GPT, or Zippy, as we always call them.
He's making it a lot easier for me.
You move closer to the crack in the wall, holding your torch steady to peer inside.
The flickering light reveals a small hidden alcove just beyond the crack.
Inside, you can see
a bundle of cloth
that seems to cover something.
Scratch marks
on the stone as if
something or someone had been
there before. The faint
sounds of movement grow quieter
as though whatever was making the noise has moved away deeper into the alcove.
Reach through the crack and grab the bundle. Call out. Let's return to the...
Now, I hate to stick my hand in there there but we're going to find it anyway.
So we'll go reach through the crack for bundle.
Then we'll come come you cautiously reach
through the crack and grab the bundle of cloth
it feels surprisingly
heavy as you pull it back into the
light of your torch
the cloth
unveils
unravels revealing
its content.
Two different things.
A lantern with a small oil reserve still partially filled.
A small bag of coins,
their surfaces tarnished with age but still valuable.
The lantern could provide useful for lighting your way,
especially in dark areas
where your torch might not last.
Cool.
So now I've got all kinds of stuff.
The sound of movement
have stopped entirely,
leaving the chamber eerily quiet.
You glance back at the pedestal
and ambulance.
What do you want to do?
Now I want to inspect that.
Inspect the spiral drawing on the floor. let's do that first well so you can sit here and play this for hours
inspect um spiral
drawings on floor.
And if you can do it so that you don't have to type in things,
if I could just tell it what to do,
which I bet you I could,
using it as a voice.
But for now, we'll do it this way.
Inspect the spiral drawings on the floor.
These are one of the coolest ideas I came up with. You kneel down and inspect the spiral drawings on the floor. These are one of the coolest ideas I came up with.
You kneel down and inspect the spiral drawings on the floor.
The spiral is made of
etched lines and symbols
that seem to tell a story.
As you follow the spiral
toward the pedestal, you notice
key details.
The outer ring
depicts a serpent
coiled around the sun
like the carving in the main cave.
The middle ring
shows figures holding a lantern
with light shining
into the eye of the serpent.
The innermost
rings
shows a treasure chest
surrounded by gold and jewels.
It seems the spiral is offering a clue.
The lantern's light might essentially be safely interact with the serpent.
And claim the treasure.
So that's pretty cool.
You look back at the pedestal and the gold amulet.
It seems connected to the symbols.
But removing it would be,
would have consequences.
Prepare the light for
Pratt-Lanton.
Inspect the, we'll inspect the,
uh,
um,
inspect
the pedestal.
Pedestal and amulet.
Okay.
Alright, you approach the pedestal cautiously, torch in hand.
The gold amulet resting on its gleams in the flickering light is shaped like a coiled serpent with a small sun-shaped gem embedded in the center.
The craftsmanship is exquisite.
It seems to radiate a faint, otherworldly glow.
The pedestal itself is covered in faint ruins. radiate a faint otherworldly glow.
The pedestal itself is covered in faint
ruins.
Similar to the spiral drawings on the
floor. You notice a thin layer
of dust around the base
of the amulet, suggesting that it has
not been touched in a very long time.
There's an
ominous feeling in the air. The amulet
might be valuable
but taking the trigger something I'm gonna light the lantern and prepare for the worst
I'm going to leave the chamber I'll go to the beach now
so I'm going to leave the chamber
I'm not going to touch that
because you decide
to retreat carefully through
I want to
I want to head to the jungle
follow the map
that's what we're going to do
head
to the jungle follow the map that's what we're gonna do head to the jungle and
the map okay so we're out of the cave now so this be fun. I could do this for hours actually.
This is so much more fun than playing a video game really.
You step out of the cave and make your way toward the jungle.
The map.
Grip tightly in your hand.
The sunlight filters through the dense canopy.
As you follow a winding trail.
Marked on the map. The air is humid, the
sounds of birds and distance rustling surround you. After some time you come
across a fork in the path. The map shows both routes. Left path leads towards a river crossing marked with a small
icon of a bridge.
Right path
leads deeper into the jungle towards
a clearing, but it's marked with
a serpent symbol
suggesting danger.
I think we should go to the left
for now. We'll go left okay
take the left path towards the river crossing
the trail becomes narrow
and steeper but soon
as you hear the
sound of rustling water
the river is wide and the current
is strong
a rickety wooden bridge
stretches across, swaying slightly in the breeze. As you approach the bridge, you notice
a bundle of rope tied to a tree near the riverbank. A warning sign posted nearby says, bridge unstable, cross at your own risk.
The rope could be useful, but crossing the bridge might be dangerous without extra precautions.
Go back, take the rope, cross, be careful.
Use the rope to secure yourself
And cross the bridge
I'm gonna go back
I'm gonna go back
I'm not gonna do that right now
I'll go back to the other
We'll go to the other path
See what's on there
You decide not to risk the unstable bridge
and head back along the trail
to the fork in the path.
The jungle feels even more alive
with sounds now
and the sunlight flickering
through the canopy
casts shifting patterns
on the ground.
You're back at the fourth fork
where the right path leads deeper
into the jungle towards the clearing marked as serpent.
Alright.
So I want to go right now.
Head back to cave.
Take right path.
Stop and examine the map.
Let's do this.
Stop and
examine the map.
All right, so I'm taking a break.
I'm going to see where we're at.
You pause at the fork and unroll the map.
Examine it closely under the sunlight.
The details reveal more than you noticed before.
The right path toward the clearing is marked with a serpent symbol and second icon resembles an eye.
This might indicate a lookout point or something that requires careful observation.
The left path leads to the river and loops back around towards the jungle's edge, where another icon, a campfire, is marked.
It seems like a potential rest point, but might not directly lead to treasure. there are no visible landmarks on the map between your location and the clearing
suggests suggesting it is most direct route to the treasure so we'll take we'll take the right path
alright so I'm going to the right now
I'll do this for about a half hour
so this will be the start of it
take the right path
deeper into the jungle
the air grows heavier and the sounds
of wildlife seem to
fade replaced by an eerie stillness.
The path becomes increasingly overgrown and you use your knife to cut through the thick vines blocking your way.
After some time, the trail opens into a clearing, just as the map indicated. At the center of the clearing stands a massive stone,
statue of a serpent, coiled
and towering, with its head raised as it's ready to
strike. The serpent's eyes glint
in the sunlight, made of what appeared to be
a polished gemstone.
You notice
a small altar
at the base of the statue
with an indentation
that matches the shape of the golden
amulet you saw earlier.
Huh.
So I'll have to go back and get that.
Deeper scratches
and a broken stone littering the ground.
Around the statue.
Suggesting danger.
The inscription.
From the cave.
Comes to mind.
The serpent.
Guards a treasure.
Only.
The brave.
With a light.
To guide.
Shall pass.
Place the lantern on the altar.
Return to the cave on the altar. Return to the cave to retrieve the golden amulet.
Search the clearing for clues.
Let's search the clearing.
Search the clearing.
Okay. You carefully search the clearing. Okay.
You carefully search the clearing,
keeping an eye on the serpent statue.
The ground is uneven and littered with fallen leaves,
broken stone and scratches that look like claw marks.
After a thorough inspection you discover
a hollowed out tree stump near the edge of the clearing. Inside you find a small vial of oil.
All right so let's see where we're at. So, you can't really search the clearing.
We did that hollow tree.
We found a small vial of oil.
A pattern of stones forming a crude circle
around the base of the
serpent statue.
You notice faint scorch marks
on some of the stones
if they were
exposed to intense heat.
An old journal wedged onto a rock that reads,
The serpent's eyes hold the key, but only when you bathed in fire do not look away. These clues suggest.
That the statues.
Eyes.
And the light from the lantern.
Are critical.
To.
Progressing safely.
Interesting.
So I have driftwood.
Inventory.
Map.
Knife.
Flint.
Dry sticks.
I have a lantern with oil a bag of coins and now vial of oil from refilled land places on the answer
return to the cave leave the clearing I'm gonna go I don't want to do that yet let's see what we're on
okay
so let's
um
return to the cave to retrieve
uh return to cave
return to cave
so I don't know if it'll make me go through all the steps to get there or not.
We'll see.
You carefully make your way back through the jungle to the cave.
The familiar damp air greets you as you step inside, torch in hand.
The pedestal from the golden amulet awaits in the hidden chamber beyond the narrow passage.
You know taking the amulet awaits in the hidden chamber beyond the narrow passage. You know taking the amulet would trigger
something,
but it also seems essential for solving
the mystery of
the serpent's statue.
So the fun thing about doing it this way
with ChatGPT is that
it jumps me right back into
the cave, as opposed to
if you're doing a game.
Each step you've got to go back through that step.
So if I went left I'd have to go right.
And then go back.
And keep going until I finally got back to the cave.
So this makes it a lot more easier.
More easy and more fun to play.
Search the main cave for additional items.
Let's light.
Light the lantern let's light the
land I spelled that wrong there's something else in here so it's like so you take out the lantern and the vial of oil you found in the clarin carefully you refill the
lantern reserve ensuring it's ready for use then using the flint you strike a few sparks
until the lantern flicker wick catches It bursts into a steady warm glow.
The lantern now provides brighter and more
reliable light than the torch.
It feels like the perfect tool for
navigating the dangers ahead.
You're in the main cavern
with your lantern
lit. The passage to the
chamber awaits,
along with the pedestal holding the golden amulet.
Search the main cave again.
I got more light now. Maybe I can find something else. Search
the main cave.
Search the main cave again. Okay.
Let's see what we got here. You search the main cave again. Okay. Let's see what we got here.
You search the main cave thoroughly, shining your lantern into every nook and cranny.
The brighter light reveals hidden details.
A leather pouch tucked in a crevice.
Inside you find a handful of matches.
A great backup for starting fires.
A small engraving on the wall near the entrance. It depicts the serpent statue in the emblem.
With a beam of light shining from the emblem towards the serpent's eyes. Beneath it, another inscription reads, Only those who unite light and courage shall reveal the path.
The clues seem to confirm that the golden amulet and your lantern are keys to dealing with the serpent statue.
The cave is now securely searched.
Thoroughly searched.
You feel confident you gathered everything you need.
Cool.
So let's uh just go crawl crawl I don't want if I can die on this or not I do something
wrong crawl into hidden chamber so we're going into the chamber now
you carefully crawl back into the hidden chamber
your lantern lighting your way
the air feels heavier
as its room itself is aware of your presence
the golden amulet gleams
on the pedestal
its serpent sun design seems
almost alive
in the flickering light.
Examine the pedestal
one last time. Yeah, let's examine the pedestal.
Maybe there's some sort of a trigger.
Examine
the pedestal.
Examine the pedestal. Examine the pedestal
examine the pedestal
this is really fun actually
you lean in to examine the pedestal
the pedestal
more closely
using the light from your lantern
to reveal hidden details
the surface is etched
with fine ruins
that seem to match the carvings
that you saw in the cave in the clearing
running your fingers over the pedestal
you notice
a faint groove
encircling the base of the pedestal
suggesting it might move
or activate something.
A small slot near the bottom,
as if it means to hold something slender,
perhaps a key or tool.
The ruin seems to glow faintly
under the lantern's light,
as if it reacts to its presence.
It feels like taking the ambulance might trigger a mechanism,
but whether it will help or harm is unclear.
Insert knife into slot.
See, this gives me the option.
See, that's something you don't get with the original game.
You don't get...
It makes it a lot easier for you.
Leave the hidden chamber without touching anything.
Insert knife into slot
let's try that
insert
knife
did I spell that wrong
knife
into slot
ok
that's what happens
you carefully insert the knife
into the slot near the bottom of the pedestal
as the blade slides in
there's a faint click
oh what just happened
did I just die
uh
there's a faint click and the pedestal begins
to hum softly
the ruins on its surface glow brighter
casting shimmering patterns of light across the walls pedestal begins to hum softly. The ruins on its surface glow brighter, casting
shimmering patterns of light across
the walls of the chamber.
The pedestal doesn't move,
but a hidden compartment
on its side opens, revealing a small
carved gemstone
in the shape of an eye.
The gem
pulses with a faint
golden light
similar to the glow of the amulet
maybe I can swap it out
let's see
the pedestal still holds the golden amulet
and the mechanism seems stable for now
what to do now
inspect
I'm going to inspect I'm going to inspect
the
inspect
the
gemstone.
Aye.
So we're going to inspect
the gemstone.
I'm not robbing from
giving feedback. Okay, so so we'll inspect it I'm not robbing from uh
giving feedback
okay so
you hold the gemstone eye
up to the light and the lantern
the intricate craftsman becomes apparent
it's smooth warm to the touch
and etched
with teeny ruins that matches
those on the pedestal
and the spiral drawings. As
you're tilted the gemstone catches a light and reflects into a beam almost as
to focus the light for a specific purpose. If the gemstone eye might play Might play a role in activating or interacting with these serpent statues.
Okay, cool.
Okay.
So.
I'm going to search.
I'm still going to keep searching because I always find more stuff.
I like finding more stuff.
Search hidden chamber.
Usually it'll say
when it's
you've done your search and there's nothing left.
Let's see where we're at here.
You shine your lantern around the hidden chamber
taking one last careful look
for any remaining clues after a thorough
search you discover a small carved inscription on the base of the pedestal particularly hidden
by dust it reads the serpent sees the light of courage unite the eye and the sun to reveal its
path a faint trail of scratches
leading from the pedestal
towards a narrow passageway.
They appear to have been
by something being dragged
possibly a heavy object.
Near the
edge of the chamber
a discarded length of
old cloth
which could be used to wrap fragile items or a makeshift bag
these details suggest that both the golden amulet
and the gemstone eye are key to solving the mystery of the serpent statue in the clearing
hmm Statue in the clearing.
Inspects scratches.
Inspect.
I wonder if it just makes it up as I go here.
It's pretty funny.
On the ground.
See, the games, you you had to visualize everything.
What I was doing was using AI to give me visuals on the screen of the old games.
This is the opposite.
I'm playing it by his terms.
Or Zippy's term. You kneel down and inspect the scratches on the ground more closely.
Holding your lantern low to illuminate the faint marks.
The trail leads from the pedestal towards a narrow passageway,
but it's unclear what caused it.
The scratches seem to have been made by something heavy being dragged,
leaving deep grooves in the stone.
As you follow the trail with your
eyes you notice something curious near the entrance to the passageway the
scratches abruptly stop as if what was being dragged vanished or was lifted
away this might indicate a hidden mechanism or secret purpose tied to the
pedestal or the items it holds.
So I guess I have really no choice
but to take the
the amulet now.
And I said we'll do that.
Six.
The amulet pedestal
for connections to the scratches.
I hate to move that thing.
Where am I? I'm going to leave it at that
so we're about 40 minutes in
so we'll
I'm going to leave it there
I'll think about pulling an ambulance out
but I'm not going to do it yet
so he called this story the
what did he just call it
called the chat GPT island
so you can make your own game
it's pretty fun
just thought about it last night
I was thinking about something
I'm like
hey
I know what I can do
that's
for a podcast
besides stories
that
everything I do is through Zippy so so, it's his own creations,
which is pretty cool, uh, what I'm trying to, oh, it's called, so, the title of this,
this game is called The Treasure of Chet, GPT Island, so, I'm going to leave it at that. And tomorrow we'll proceed.
Hopefully it will remember where we're at.
And then I can play.
But I am going to look into those other TRS-80 emulators.
Although I have TRS-80 and I have Pyramid.
So I can play the original game on an original TRS-80.
So that's our fun for the night.
And tomorrow we'll do something else alright have a good good evening
