Starting point is 00:00:00 Alright so today I'm going to do a little something different. My mother still, when my mother's not here i have to stay with him pretty much all the time he shakes and shivers so today i'm just gonna uh i may not do anything with video today only because i'm sitting on the couch with r. So I started to play a game yesterday. So let's recap that. So I'm 56 years old. Back in the day, TRS-80, original model one, was my computer. And there was game, there was text games that were really fun to use your computer. And there was game dealers, text games, that were really fun to use your imagination. And the one I always talk about is Pyramid 2000, or Pyramid 1 and 2.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Basically, you have to... It uses text, and you've got to tell it where to go, and you use your imagination to figure out where you are and what you need to do. They're really hard, actually. I don't think I ever finished Pyramid or even got far with it. I always got... And another real popular one that's a good example is Shadowgate.

Starting point is 00:01:53 so the other night I was thinking after I did my story for the night which I try to do every night I decided that hey you know what maybe I want to use AI to help me make a text based? Maybe I'm going to use AI to help me make a text-based game. Because I definitely want to use AI. Because I've got all kinds of old, early Tandy 1000s and RadioShack computers and all the early stuff. So I could ask it to make a program for like a visual game but that's uh what would require me entering it into the old
Starting point is 00:02:29 computer so until i can get some sort of interface from a new computer to an old computer uh sure there is i just don't know what it is yet i haven't decided to do that. However, yesterday night I decided to, hey, I'm going to ask AI to make me a text-based game. And it did. Very fun so far. So I'm on day two. So instead of doing it tonight, while I'm sitting here on the couch with my Mr. Ranger here and my other Roxy, she's in her bed sleeping. I've got to feed them in a little while. So again, it's way off routine. Normally my mother's up feeding them and doing all that. I'm going on to other stuff. But I've got all my orders done. So I take care of my buddy Ranger here.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Make sure he gets lots of love and comfort here so he doesn't feel too spooked out. My mother's supposed to be home today uh i called her she's in a room and then if she doesn't then i'll go up and see her now probably go pick her up a little bit later on today that's what i'm hoping so for now we're going to go on the day two of my little exploration here. So yesterday, where would I end up? You kneel down.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Oh, so I was still in a tomb inspecting the scratches on the ground. So this is called, what did he call it? The name of this game that AI, Zippy, I call it. It's called the Treasure of Chat GPT Island. That's what Zippy named the game after I asked him to make me a game. It says your goal is to explore, solve puddles, and find treasure. Be aware the island has its secrets. So I don't know if I can actually die in this game. I don't know if you could die in the original text-based games or not. Not Pod. So we went pretty far yesterday, about a half hour. And then I was shutting it down for the night.
Starting point is 00:04:35 But today I decided because I've got my little buddy here to take care of this morning. I need to sit with him. He just needs somebody all the time, pretty much. Can't do it all the time for him. I did all my orders this morning. I did some leaves.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Now he's relaxing comfortably right next to me. So I said, hey, maybe I'll play the game for a little while. It's my new thing now. Really fun to do it. So we went to different caves. There's an amulet. There's a serpent statue. There's a golden amulet.
Starting point is 00:05:19 If I pull the golden amulet off, I'm afraid it's going to trigger something. So let's see where we're at now. Let's go back to, so I don't know. So we'll go to, all right. So what to do next? What to do next? This is take the golden amulet from the pedestal. I can leave the chamber and return to the clearing, inspect the scratches on the ground. Starting point is 00:05:55 Holding your lantern low to illuminate the faint marks. The trail leads from the pedestal towards the narrow passageway. But it's unclear what caused it. The scratches seem to have been made by something heavy being dragged, leaving deep grooves in the stone. As you follow the trail with your eyes, you notice something curious. Near the entrance of the passageway, the scratches abruptly stop, as if whatever was being dragged vanished or was lifted away. This might indicate a hidden mechanism or a secret purpose tied to the pedestal or the item it holds. So now I have to decide that's where I was at.

Starting point is 00:07:41 A low rumble echoes through the chamber and the ruins on the pedestal begin to slowly intensify. For a tense moment nothing happens. Then the rumbling subsides and the pedestal grows quiet. It seems the mechanism was stabilized through the glowing ruins remain active. The golden amulet now is in your hands. It feels heavier than you expected, but as if it had come with energy. So now I have the golden amulet.
Starting point is 00:08:18 Nothing moved on me when I removed it. The chamber seems to have no other immediate threats threats to growing ruins indicated in that was activated something else where on the island when I remove the in so it's full search the chamber one last just like to search find stuff search the chamber all right so I'm gonna search the chamber. And then later on, I'll pick a...
Starting point is 00:09:05 You take one final, careful look around the hidden chamber, inspecting every corner and crack under the light of the land. This time, you notice something subtle. A hidden groove near the base of the pedestal where the scratches began. It is a thin seam in the stone floor. It looks like it might open or move possibly revealing a hidden compartment or passage. A faint draft. There's a cool breeze emanating from the grooves suggesting it leads to somewhere outside the chamber, however there is no obvious way to open it.
Starting point is 00:09:55 The glowing ruins on the pedestal and the golden amulet in your possession seem to be connected to the hidden mechanism. It feels like the next step may require testing your newfound item elsewhere on the island, particularly at the serpent in the clearing. Okay, so that means inspect the groove. On a regular game, back in the day you had to if you didn't type something in wrong you just said i
Starting point is 00:10:50 don't know it so here we go you may you make your way back through the main cave step out into the sunlight of the beach the waves crash across the shore and the fresh air is a welcome contrast to the damp cave. The beach seems, just as you left it, peaceful but offering no immediate clues. So this is where I was shipwrecked. Alright, so there's nothing there. So you now have a golden ambulant and a gemstone eye, which seem to be key to solving the mystery of the serpent statue in the clarion. A light, which provides bright and reliable lighting for dark areas or puzzles ahead. A map, which shows the location of important landmarks, including the jungle clar clearing. What to do next? Explore the beach. Maybe I'll miss something there.
Starting point is 00:11:52 I don't know if my Zippy here is adding stuff as I decide what to do or if it's already been pre-made. I think he's doing as I go so whatever I decide then he gives me a some other fun stuff to do explore so this is the perfect thing to do for chat GPT because it's the game just like the old days but it's more it's more fresh I explore the beach further you decide to explore the beach more thoroughly the warm sand shifts under your feet as you scan the area for anything unusual.
Starting point is 00:12:54 After some time, you discover a few interesting things. A piece of driftwood washed to the shore, but this one is larger and sturdier than the one you used earlier it could serve as a makeshift weapon or tool a half buried chest wedged into the sand near some rocks it's locked and appears weathered but intact a cluster of seashells but among them is one that appears to be of metal etched with ruins similar to those in the chamber. Starting point is 00:14:36 The wood is weathered but the structure remains intact. The lock is rusted but sturdy. It might be possible to break it with a tool. After I make a decision. Which is cool. So it keeps it fun. So you're not. I'm not really necessarily ever really.

Starting point is 00:16:22 the chest creaks open revealing its contents inside inside you find a coiled length of sturdy rope oh there is a place where there is a bridge that I have to cross but I do have rope I thought perfect for climbing and securing something
Starting point is 00:16:40 a strange medallion etched with the same serpent and sun symbol that appears on the amulet and pedestal. The metal glows faintly when held near the golden amulet. and one small pouch of black powder with no immediate explanation for its use but it seems important oh so let me now I have black powder I have a serpent medallion I've got more rope and all right the chest is now empty and the beach appears thoroughly searched. You feel ready to continue. So now I want to go follow the map to the jungle clearing.
Starting point is 00:17:37 I want to go to the clearing now. Go to the path. There was a pathway. There was a split. Let's see if it will let me go there. In one way, it got me to a bridge, but I never went any further. You leave the beach and head toward the pathway leading into the jungle. Following the map you retract your steps through the dense foliage and arrive at the familiar fork in the path. The left path leads to the river crossing with an unstable bridge. That's where I want to go. I want
Starting point is 00:18:22 to go left. I'll come back to the serpent. All right. You take the left path back toward the river crossing. The sound of the rushing water grows louder as you approach the rickety wooden bridge, swaying slightly in the breeze.
Starting point is 00:19:03 The river's current looks strong, but you feel more prepared with the rope you found in the chest. Tying the other end around your waist, you prepare to cross the rickety bridge. The planks creak and sway with every step, but the rope provides stability and reassurance. Halfway across, one of the boards snaps under your weight, but the rope holds you steady and you manage to regain your balance. After a few tense moments you make it safely to the other side of the river.
Starting point is 00:20:36 On the other side of the river you see a small campfire seemingly abandoned with a fire pit and a scattered and a few scattered supplies fun, I'm Trail leading further than the dump into the jungle Possibly connecting back to the clearing marked on your map All right, so that means that circles back. I can't go back across the bridge so I'll have to go that way. Cross back over the bridge, investigate the campfire, of course. That's what we want to do. Investigate the clearing.
Starting point is 00:21:18 So I type in what I want to do and then it gives me a new scenario pretty fun investigate declaring I would like you to show me visuals too that would be really cool so along with because what I was doing I don't know maybe about a month ago I started doing it today I have original TRS 80 pyramid and all that so I was going on the computer I had chat GPT in front of me, Zippy, and I would type in a scenario that the original game would show, would say, and then it would give me a visual. So I wanted to do it that way as well but that requires a lot more typing. This is kind of the opposite. This is
Starting point is 00:22:02 he's making me a game as I go along here no visuals however I'm sure I could ask for visual yeah I'd make four but because I'm doing this as a podcast here there's really no need for visual because I'm not going to explain the visual as well I'll just stick with the words because it's basically what a podcast is. It's talking with a purpose or some sort of a... Something going on with it. So we'll go there. So we're going to investigate the... Not the clearing.

Searching the area, you discover a weathered journal. Inside, you find notes detailing someone's attempt to find the treasure.
Starting point is 00:23:38 One entry reads, The serpent fears light but cannot be fooled by fire alone. Only the symbols will reveal the truth. And then I found a pouch of dried herbs. They have a strong, earthy scent. It might be useful for starting a fire or creating smoke. A broken lantern. But its glass lens is intact you could potentially use it to focus light more precisely nice so now I have so my
Starting point is 00:24:15 inventory I've got a map I've got my lit lantern I've got a bag of coins I've got a bag of coins. I've got matches. Gemstone eye. I have a cloth. Golden amulet. Amulet. Starting point is 00:25:23 As I said, if you were playing one of these original ones it's not like that at all. It's a lot hotter. It'll just say you can't do that. You decide to start a campfire at the abandoned campsite. Using your matches, dry stick and herbs you carefully build a small fire in the fire pit. The herbs create a fragrant smoky flame and the warm light fills the air. As the fire burns, the heat reveals something hidden in the fire pit's ashes, a charred metal plate. When you pull it out and clean it off, you discover etched symbols similar to those of the golden amlet and the serpent medallion. The symbols seem to match parts of the map and the serpent carvings you've
Starting point is 00:26:14 seen before. This plate could be just another piece of the puzzle for the serpent statue. Pretty cool. So now I just added that into my inventory. The fire is cracking warmly and you feel a sense of purpose. Let's see if I can just take a nap. I'll just take a rest. Let's see if we can rest for the day. Take a rest for the night. Again it just kind of responds to what I say and just makes something up I think as it
Starting point is 00:26:52 goes. It's pretty fun. It says, if it was a real game you only had to serve. You decide to rest for the night at the campsite. Using the warm glow of the fire to keep safe, you arrange a spot near the fire and wrap yourself in the cloth you found earlier for comfort.
Starting point is 00:27:13 The crackling flames and jungle sounds create a surprisingly peace ambiance. As you rest, you think about the pieces you gathered so far. Yeah, I definitely need to rest there. The golden ambulance, serpent, medallion, and gemstone eye all seem connected. The metal seashell and the charred plate with symbols might be keys to solving the puzzle.
Starting point is 00:27:40 The map has guided you well so far. Pointing to the serpent statue as the next destination. You sleep lightly but soundly, waking up for the first light of dawn filters through the trees. The fire has burned down to ambers, but you feel refreshed and ready to continue your journey. Hmm. So, I want to go, I want to follow, I want to go deeper into the jungle. Follow the trail. It says it's going to circle back to the clearing that I need to get to,

Around the statue, a faint spiral pattern on the ground seems to be even more pronounced now, as if waiting for the final pieces to be put into place. Okay, so let's see where we're at now. It's great that I can just kind of abbreviate it and he knows what I'm talking about you take a closer look at the spiral pattern and symbols etched into the ground around the serpent statue now that you've paid attention, you notice several key details. The spiral center aligns perfectly with the serpent statue base, suggesting it might be
Starting point is 00:32:17 connected to the altar mechanism. The symbol on the spiral matches the ones found on the golden amulet, the serpent medallion, and the charred metal plate. Each ring of the spiral coordinates with a specific item you found, and small indents in the ground seem designed to hold those. Oh, that's cool. As each piece clicks into place, the spiral pattern begins to glow faintly, pulsating outward towards the base of the serpent. I had to put this down first. The spiral now appears fully active but the final steps seems to involve shining the lanterns light on the serpent's eye as indicated by the earlier clues but I gotta use that lens I have an extra lens so shine the lantern directly inspect the items you placed for changes.

Starting point is 00:35:47 Let's see if that made a difference. Again, so far there hasn't been a time where I haven't gone anywhere. There it is. You take the glass lens from the broken lantern in your inventory and carefully attach it to the front of your lit lantern, focusing its beam into a sharp, concentrated ray of light. Holding the lantern steady, you aim the intensified beam directly at the serpent's gemstone eyes. As the light strikes the gemstones, they begin to glow brightly, reflecting and retracting the beams in all directions. The vibration in the ground intensifies,
Starting point is 00:36:27 and the spiral pattern on the floor pulsates with golden light, spinning faster and faster as if alive. Suddenly, a deep rumble echoes through the clearing, and the serpent statue's mouth begins to open slowly revealing a hidden passage descending into darkness beneath its base ooh I made it into the serpent that's pretty fun again this is all by visual so you have to kind of visual when you're playing and it makes it so much more fun doing it through my zippy here because you never really like stop or get stuck which is really fun it just always gives me something new
Starting point is 00:37:15 to do or go to the way forward is now revealed but this is but the descent looks ominous the glowing spiral on the ground has dimmed, leaving the serpent's passage as the only source of intrigue. So there's nothing else going on. Inspect the open statue for traps. Leave the clearing. Inspect.

Starting point is 00:38:32 These look like serpent coiled around a treasure chest, with beams of light illuminating the chest. Carvings seem to reinforce the idea that treasure lies ahead. Ooh, gotta find some treasure. No immediate signs of traps. The floor of the passage appears sturdy and no obvious mechanisms or pitfalls.
Starting point is 00:39:01 However, the air inside feels colder carrying a faint metallic tang a faint golden glow emulates from the deeper within the passage beckoning you forward it seems safe to proceed but you remain cautious as a serpentine imagery suggests and maybe challenges ahead. always lets me find new stuff if I search more. So, I'm doing this this afternoon so that way I can sit with my dog Ranger here and keep him calm. Because he's missing my mother right now, so... I'd be shocked if all of a sudden I died. Drink the essence. This is fun. Starting point is 00:42:47 Okay, so you want to uncork the vial of shimmering liquid and drink the essence of protection. The liquid is cool. The liquid is cool and has a faintly sweet metallic taste. As it goes down, you feel an immediate warmth spreading through your body, followed by a sense of calm and fortitude. A faint golden glow surrounds you briefly, then fades, leaving you to feel stronger and more confident. Whatever danger lies ahead,
Starting point is 00:43:25 you seem that this protection will shield you from harm, at least for a time. Cool. The hidden passage underneath the serpent statue glows faintly, waiting for you to descend. So now we're going to enter. Enter. Enter.

Starting point is 00:44:04 Basically, this could be like a never ending story pretty much right I don't know if it would have a conclusion or not or I would just keep wandering around or I find treasure and I'm done or not
Starting point is 00:44:20 I have no idea I've never tried it before you inspect the opening of the hidden passage one last time, using the light of your lantern to illuminate every detail. The smooth stone wall descends steeply, and the faint glow emulating from below seems to pulse rhythmically as if alive. Looking more closely, you notice no visible traps or obstacles when the first feet of the descent confirming it's safe small notches
Starting point is 00:44:55 along the walls possibly designed to hold torches or provide handholds for climbing the faint sound of something all right so that was my mother she'd be coming home mid-afternoon which is cool all right so where we were looking for closer to notice physical sounds something clearer. So we're going to go into everything seems. Alright, so we're going to enter the hidden passage. in pass probably stop there I guess some things I gotta do 45-minute game cool on lots fun stuff are with the land
Starting point is 00:46:02 with your land lighting the way Sometimes it adds all kinds of new fun stuff With your lantern lighting the way And the essence of protection Coursing through you You cautiously step into the hidden passage Beneath the serpent's stature The air glows colder and denser As you descend the smooth stone steps.
Starting point is 00:46:28 The faint golden glow ahead becomes brighter with every step, illuminating carvings on the wall. As you move deeper, the carvings depict scenes of adventures facing trials light defending shadows serpent bowing before a shiny figure in a treasure chest bursting with light the Golden Globe leads you to an underground chamber. In the center stands a pedestal holding an ornament treasure chest. Its surface covered in symbols that match the golden amulet and serpent medallion. As you approach the chest, you notice two things. A faint hissing sound as if something is slithering in the darkness. A symbol etched into the floor little shine. Yeah shine around the I don't want to get bit by a snake here shine
Starting point is 00:47:58 We want to look around for anything anything slithering let's see what we got okay you raise your lantern and shine its focus light around the chamber sweeping the beam across the floors and walls the glow illuminates every corner of the room revealing the source across the floors and walls. Starting point is 00:48:29 sound. In the shadows you see a massive serpent, its scales shimmering like molten gold. It coils silently around the perimeter of the chamber, its glowing eyes locked onto you. Though it does not strike, it presents an undeniable medicine, as if it's waiting for you to make a move. That's why we looked first. The serpent appears to be guarding the treasure chest
Starting point is 00:49:00 at the center of the room, and the protection circle of symbols around the chest seems to keep its bay. The serpent reacts subtly to the light from the lantern, shifting slightly but it does not seem to fear the light outright. It's clear that you'll need to rely on more than just illumination to proceed. So I'm going to leave it there. We're at the serpent now. We'll leave it at the serpent. And then maybe later on I'll do some more story. I mean some more of this. It's pretty
Starting point is 00:49:37 fun. So the things I can do, I can examine the symbols on the floor. I can approach, attempt to approach the chest slowly. Use the serpent medallion and gold amulet to interact with the serpent. All right, so we're going to leave that at that. So that's my day two.
