Starting point is 00:00:00 So today I'm doing early morning, well early, it's 10.30, gaming. We're going to do Nintendo. I left off at GameCube, so we'll do Wii, Wii U. We'll take a look at some Switch action and see if we can get any kind of specs on the new Switch 2. Which I'm really bummed out. I really wanted a Switch box. Which would be a dedicated system just for the console. And Switch 2 is just an oversized Switch.
Starting point is 00:00:32 But I want to see how much tech advances. It's got to be much more advanced for the tech. HDMI 2. Better Bluetooth. Wi-Fi 7. Some sort of a processor. So let's see if the specs are out there. if my buddy Zippy can help me out there. First we'll do, we'll start out with Wii.
Starting point is 00:00:55 We'll see what kind of disk boot process. It doesn't give me a lot of code or anything, but it just gives me kind of an idea. So we'll go Nintendo so we'll go nintendo we'll go nintendo wii uh disk uh code process i forget what the what's in the wii itself so you get the wii then then the wii u is the upgraded version. Huge fan of the Wii U. I didn't really like the Wii, but I liked the Wii U with the Wii. Wii discs had region locked, which just about all of them do. Let's see if it has some sort of a groove in it. Insert the discs, startup disc. So many drive issues with Wii East.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Because the disc drive is its main function, basically. Unless you homebrewed it, then you don't have to worry about it. Disk format detected. We checked for the disk for Wii Game or GameCube. So remember, this is, if we're talking about the earlier models of Wii, RVL-001. But then remember the rvl dash 101 some of them are the k1 or k2 motherboards with no ports for a gamecube all right so magic word verification the console reads the magic word
Starting point is 00:02:19 and the disk header to verify it's a valid game. So it's using some sort of a magic word. Ooh, that's kind of cool. Security and authorization contact scramble system. It uses a CSS encryption to check if the disc is legal. System menu check. The firmware checks if the disc requires update. Before allowing you to play it because you always get those updates Xbox one being the most updates
Starting point is 00:02:51 all the time do we use is a proprietary file system to access games loading it the system begins loading the data main execute error correction there's any sort of a disc problem so on the Wii disk drives there's any sort of a disk problem. So on the Wii disk drives, there's so many issues and I've got hundreds of them around my house that I've never tried to fix because they're so hard to take apart
Starting point is 00:03:15 and there's so many different random issues that I never could figure out what goes to where. But at some point I will mess around with them some more. The common issue is the click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click. That's the most common one. I don't know what causes that.
Starting point is 00:03:33 I don't know if it's the dry board or the lens. Once the system verifies the disk and loads the necessary data, it switches to the game's code. The disk spins. It continues to spin streaming data. Let's see. So we said
Starting point is 00:03:48 that the Sega Dreamcast and Nintendo GameCube spin at a constant rate. I think it's CVA, constant velocity. Something like that. Let's see what this one, the discrete error
Starting point is 00:04:04 scratch disk is. All right, so... Is we disks at CVA? I think it's CVA. Constant velocity. No, we disks are not. Oh, it's actually CAV. I did it backwards.
Starting point is 00:04:25 They're not encoded on CAV, constant angular velocity format. WeDiscs use constant linear velocity. Rotate speed decreases as the lens moves towards the center. So that's a huge difference between a lot of the other games, like Wii, where, especially GameCube, the disc is so small it never
Starting point is 00:04:52 changes speed, because it really doesn't have far to go. But also, I believe the CAV, Constant Angular Velocity, is the same on the Sega Dreamcast. It never changes speed. It doesn't need to for whatever reason. The rotation speed decreases as it goes closer. It ensures a constant data flow.
Starting point is 00:05:15 So this constant angular velocity used from some other systems is a constant speed. All right, so that's there. So what's the actual what what what speed I know what speed is the drive I know we said that the 01 through 05 xbox is at five times c speed. Let's see what this is at. 6 times CD speed. So yeah, so Wii discs, 12mm DVDs. So they're actually
Starting point is 00:05:51 DVDs. Maximum speed is 6 times 8.31 megabytes per second. Uses a dual layer DVD format. Capacity is 8.5 gigabytes gamecube uses the mini one that's only three times so
Starting point is 00:06:12 this has backwards compatibility and then in the way there's two different types of disk drives one the newer one we came out later and then the older one which is not as good but in general they always have issues a standard PC drive goes up to 16 times but the we drive is slower to optimize cost durability and compatibility with proper disks so if you put a DVD in a Wii, I wonder if it plays.
Starting point is 00:06:47 The slowest speed of a Wii disk drive was sufficient for its games because much of the data loaded into the memory, so it didn't have to rely on reading it. Once it loaded it to the memory, it would read from the memory. Maybe that's why there's so many homebrews.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Let's go to the Wii library here. Wii game library. Again I was never a Wii fan because I didn't like having to put that one thing around. Decided yesterday that what I say ps2 at 4,000 by far the most of all the system cartridges or CDs here that I've been going through of course First time was Super Mario Galaxy wanted to legend of Zelda princess in Skyward Mario Kart Metroid 3 Corruption Okay, so we're going to go to the game library here. Casual and family
Starting point is 00:07:52 friend games. They have like Wii Sports and I have lots of Wii games. Wii Fit, Wii Balance Board. I've saved hundreds of the battery compartments that needed to be cleaned out. Resident Evil 4, we additioned.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Didn't know that, Raymond. No More Heroes. Then the Monster Hunter. A massive action RPG. And now it's Monster World, I believe. Monster Hunter World, rather. Examples, Oracle of Time Virtual Console you could use it, you could play Turbo 16
Starting point is 00:08:28 and more exclusive titles were the Z Blade Chronicles Last Story Pandora's Tower Motion Control Red Steel 2 Boombox.
Starting point is 00:08:46 So in the United States, there was about 1,250 games. Japan had 1,000. Europe had 1,100. I wonder if they're the same games, but in the other version, or they're different games. Of course, peripherals are like the Weave Balance Board, which I've had so many of them i have piled up in my sheds uh all carcasses from battery compartments taken off because i sold them all and if they were dirty i pulled the pins out and cleaned what i could just saved lots of them so i said those those in the um the little sink board button underneath it the battery compartment it's kind of part of it
Starting point is 00:09:23 so yeah so let's see of part of it so yeah so let's see what some other rare rare games are on that rare games uh so metroid prime trilogy i have i have the metroid prime something else it's called what's it called not metroid prime. It's got another name. 1, 2 and then 3. The Exoblade Chronicles. Never played any of that. Fire Emblem.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Follow up to Path of Radiance from GameCube. Kanagi Kingdom. Hybrid. Pandora's Tower. Bring niche junior RPGs. The Last Story. Another title for the Operation Rainfall campaign. A Boy and His Blob.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Junon the Grudge. Known for its creepy gameplay. Survival. Horror. Based on Japanese movie. That sounds kind of cool let's check that one on ebay i like to cross reference a couple of these games that look rare that i've never heard of um unfortunately it cost me i purchased one and the buyer canceled on me but of course what
Starting point is 00:10:39 i did because i i always like to to send out good positive vibes because I would hate to get a negative feedback although that buyer really don't to me big time by canceling and then marking as buyer asked to cancel which I didn't I gave him five full stars it's it fast and as described as I always do. And I just complained about it on YouTube here. And then I'll leave it at that. So the Grudge 1 and 2. So it's a movie or a game.
Starting point is 00:11:22 So it's technically the Grudge. I'm looking for the video game. Oh we go the video game uh good june june on the grudge 90 dollars 99 dollars so 124 dollars so that's an expensive one for we june on the grudge i'm sure it plays in japan all alright so that's pretty cool what else we got here why is it rare WarioWare smooth moves big box edition you don't have to see big box Wii games Fragile Dreams
Starting point is 00:11:56 Tuca vs Capcom Ultimate All Stars Super Incarna another Japan game another Japan game Zangara Ultimate All-Stars. Uh, Super N-Gar-Rena. I don't know. It's another Japan game. Another Japan game. Zangara.
Starting point is 00:12:09 No. Gar-Renga. Re-Re-Galaga. I don't know that one. Uh, local listings. Thrift stores. I do have the other Metroid,
Starting point is 00:12:18 but I can't think of any of it. It's Metroid Other. That's what it's called. Metroid Other. On Wii. I have that. I don't know what that is. But the Metroid really, they tried to make them
Starting point is 00:12:28 like 3D-ish, but they were better when they were Metroid 1 and 2. Super Metroid. Obviously the best one. Alright, so let's go to Let's go to Now, we know that Wii
Starting point is 00:12:43 U has a very small library. Let's see how small it really is in a minute. First, let know that Wii U has a very small library. Let's see how small it really is in a minute. First, let's do Wii U game code process. Because remember, now with the Wii U, you have the handheld. And, of course, you want a Wii U because Breath of the Wild plays better on the Wii U with that handheld than it does on the Switch. By far. To use inserts to Wii. So the optical drive now should be Bluetooth, correct?
Starting point is 00:13:13 We said DVD was Wii. There's specific identifiers. Ensures the game is compatible region locked. So actually there's four region locks. America, Europe, Japan, and China has its own region lock.
Starting point is 00:13:30 First time I've seen that. A China, I didn't know there was a China region lock. Preparatory, yeah, so it's a modified Blu-ray disc, which includes security measures to prevent piracy. Disc key authorization. So it doesn't specify what's on the disk, but it's got some sort of a code on it. System update, checks for system updates. Priority, I get sometimes, file
Starting point is 00:14:00 system. Includes executable files, set files, and system specific configuration files. Code loading. The Wii U loads involves decrypting data on the fly using the console's decrypt keys.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Loading critical game assets. So if all these systems didn't even bother with all these security things, just let it go, the games would probably be a lot better. They wouldn't be so restricted. Because at the end of the day, at some point it'll get modded and you'll be able to get games anyway, so why not just let it fly?
Starting point is 00:14:39 I don't know. I guess that's just me. So they could save all that extra coding and all that security on the discs. And then it would probably play better. If an issue happens, you'll get unreadable discs, system update required, invalid region, digital games. So you could do lots of digital games. I think Wii had it too.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Wii U definitely had the Nintendo eShop. And that's when things got better. It says the game library was very small. The game library was very small compared to all the other ones. 790 titles.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Oh. Relatively small compared to Nintendo's console. Around 790 official worldwide titles including digital physical and digital games only this is stark comparison to wii's over 1500 so about not quite at half the wii u sold about 13.56 million units globally make it one of the least successful consoles but now you with aroma and there's another one that they use to homebrew it i have actually have some videos of me homebrewing aroma but i haven't gone back to it as i always start something and then
Starting point is 00:15:59 move on so that we use really popular now because you can play lots of other systems on it i just never i i set it up but i never went back i've got a few japan while we we use as well the whole setup too and they all work and we use japan games too we launched in 2012 just ahead just ahead of ps4 and xbox one these couple those consoles offered more powerful and larger install bases shift to nintendo switch uh many planned wii u titles were shifted to nintendo so a lot of the like the breath of the wild although it was on wii u it also went to in 2017 to Switch. Not really big, I like Switch. I've had tons and tons of Switches to work on.
Starting point is 00:16:53 They're pretty easy inside to work on. Legend of Zelda, Wind Walker HD, Twilight Princess HD, Banetta 2, Virtual Console. So the Wii U, for its Virtual Console so the Wii U for its Virtual Console you can play all the other games on it indie games like Shovel Knight and Fast Racing Neo interesting, Legacy
Starting point is 00:17:16 uh we use small some of his best titles were later ported to Nintendo Switch he's known as the Hidden Gem Council. So let's see. Some rare games. Probably not many.
Starting point is 00:17:32 I have a couple Japan Wii U games that are different. They have a weird name to them. So there was The Legend of Zelda. I think there was the HD Special Edition. It was a Legend of Zelda. I think it was the. HD Special Edition.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Included the Wolf Link. Ambigo. Making it sought after. Ambigo. Devil's Third. Unique third person game. That. Very low sales. Limited tribute.
Starting point is 00:18:03 So bad it's good. Let's see if we can find that one. Devil's Third Wii U. We'll cross reference here. We'll just do these two today I think. Yeah, we'll just do them. I'll save Switch for tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:18:21 And we'll see if we can find some more info about the new Switch 2. At the same time. So this is called Devil's Third. Wii U Devil's Third. $199. Japan import. $499.
Starting point is 00:18:38 $208. So this is the Devil's Third Wii U. $15,000. Oh, that's a lot of games. So those are way expensive. The15,000. Those are way expensive. The Devil's Third. It said it was so bad it's good. Wow.
Starting point is 00:18:54 That one's a really high end one to find. Hello Kitty Cruisers. Wii Sports Club. Physical Edition. I have some Wii Sports Club. Physical Edition. I have some Wii Sports. Those always sell. I haven't sold any games in a while.
Starting point is 00:19:12 The Axiom Vergin. Metaverse Edition. Metroidvania Game. What's that one? Let's see what that one is. Axon A-X-I-O-M Verge. Metaverse Edition.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Let's check what that is. So that Devil's Third is really expensive. I have a few Wii U games, but... But I bet you can play that now. I'm going to fire up my Aroma and go through that again. So, $60. I think that's sealed. It's in Switch. So, it's in Switch, too. I want it for Wii U.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Let's see what the Wii U one's on. So, it's on a couple different formats. But Wii U, $170. These are sealed. $159. $300. Wii U, physical. So they're all real expensive.
Starting point is 00:20:13 I don't know what it's about. That looks pretty cool, though. Alright, so that's that. Let's see what else we got. First, some rare games. They gave me a couple more here. Game in Wario. Wario style game.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Tokyo Mirage series. Shakedown Hawaii. Wii U edition. The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Point and Click Adventure. I like Point and Click Adventures.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Those are fun. Like King's Quest and stuff like that. That's what I grew up on. So I'm all over that kind of stuff. Not that I actually sit and play them anymore. But I have them all. I went and collected all my things I grew up on. Someday I'm just going to sit down and stop playing them.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Just for fun. Okay. Oh, I see the unwritten tales PS4's got a Wii U edition let's see whoa here's one for $11,000 in Australia graded it's been graded
Starting point is 00:21:18 one guy's got one for $11,000 the next guy's got it for $300 and then you can get a copy for got one for $11,000 and the next guy's got it for $300. And then you can get a copy for, with no case for $90. Pretty cool. And most of them look like they're around $300-$400.
Starting point is 00:21:35 So that was pretty expensive. Project Zero. Median of Blackwater. So known as the Fat fatal frame for North America. Let's check that one out. This way I can just get an idea. These are games I've never heard of.
Starting point is 00:21:57 And if it's rare, I like to just see what they're kind of running for. I'm not getting any more because that guy declined on me. Okay, so I see it. It's that Fatal Frame Japan looking kind of game. For Wii U, there was four of them. $874. $847.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Whoa. $423. Wii U, $124. That's PAL version. Project U. $124. It's PAL version. Project Zero. So real expensive. $49. Japan version Wii U.
Starting point is 00:22:34 I have Japan Wii U too. Let's see what else we got. I think that's about it. Alright so we did Wii and Wii U's today. More notable rare games. The Krooks. Turbo. Super Stunt Squad.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Just Dance. 2019-2020. Tips from the collectors. Focused on art. Looked for sealed copies. Checked for regional. Yeah, so we'll do just these two today. Wii for sealed copies. Check for regional. Yeah. So we'll do just these two today.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Wii and Wii U. And then tomorrow I will go on to Nintendo. The Switch. See if I can get some specs on the new Switch. And see what kind of. Games are going to be on for those. Be interesting. I'm sure we can't get a lot of information, but maybe I'll get a little bit.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Alright, so you guys have a good afternoon, and I'll see you guys in the morning. Alright, bye.
