Alright for a system today we're going to pick some fun stuff. We're going to start with 3DO. The Panasonic 3DO. Let's get a little history on the Panasonic 3DO so it was an interactive
multiplayer
by
Panasonic and Goldstar
which is now LG
and Sony
so during this
era, so it was released in
1993, there was a couple models
I had one of the two models
FZ1 was the first model it came out in 1993 there was a couple models i had one of the two models uh fz1 was the first model
it came out in 1993 it was 700 bucks whoa uh the graphics were really really awkward
aimed to have higher graphics had like the mini movies dragon's lair Space Ace and all that. So it had a 32-bit RISC
processor. CPU
ARM60. Capable
of 3D rendering.
16
bit stereo
CD-ROM. So it was CD-ROM based.
Right, yeah.
And it also had the external
storage thing that I had gotten.
So the FZ1 was the original and most iconic.
The FZ-10, more compact, course-resistant, the top loader.
Gold Star, now LG 3DO, a cheaper alternative to the Panasonic model.
And Sanyo had a TRY lesser known
and rare version released in Japan huh let me look at that let's go to eBay
I've never seen those so yesterday I did a price on the who's at the PC engine
light was in the thousands I was like. That's why I never got one.
Let's see what the Gold Star one is.
So let's hit eBay and see if we can find out what that's going for.
Curious now.
I've had the top loader and the front loader.
And then I had the memory thing.
Gold Star. LG Gold Star star I see games here we go
three in a box so the 3d oh it looks pretty cool 450 bucks
penny sign like gold stop in a sonic 3d oh so I never had one of them 3d oh
controller pad oh I like the design that's pretty cool all right so that one was 300 bucks and let's look at this the cno i'm sure this is gonna be really expensive let's see how much this
one's if you go on ebay and try to get one of these i'm not buying anything else but i can't
afford it uh but it's fun to look and tr 680 for the Samsung
for the Sanyo 3DO
oh so that's something new I learned something new today
I didn't know there was two different kinds
other than the ones that I knew of
alright so if you want to spend
$700 you can get yourself one of those
3DO is known for games like
Road Rash
GEX, Need for Speed
Star Controller 2,
and then D.
So I have D,
and I also have that in Sega Saturn.
That is the most awkward 3D graphic game ever.
And it's almost like Doom style.
You can only turn one way at a time and go forward.
It's so hard to play.
It's pretty fun,
but it's really, really awkward.
So awkward.
The price of these was $6.99.
Tough competition.
Sega Saturn, Super Nintendo, and later PlayStation.
So 3DO.
All right, so let's see.
There was a boot process.
Let's just go to boot process.
Process of 3DO. Let's see if it works for me. go to boot process muster up for some info here this is activated 3do had his
head BIOS basic in out system firmware system core routine initialized. CPU, GPU and CD-ROM. BIOS check.
Display splash screen.
CD-ROM check there.
3D was primarily executable.
The file was often named something like 3DOEX.
A common convention.
3DO games.
I would never want to play a 3DO game.
And then the other ones were like Dragon's Lair
and Space Ace were like
quick decision games you have to pick
something fast or you die
and it's really really hard
to play those
so it had multimedia
read BIOS
in the support game but also you can do
CD, CD photos copyrighted uh troubleshooting
so that's about that all right so there was a 3do uh memory
mem readaptor i got it from Japan.
Storage. It was like a storage adapter.
And it was really expensive to get.
I sold it with my other stuff.
The purpose of the map was to save games.
Yeah.
It used a battery backup
SRAM.
Static Random Memory.
You had to put a disk in it
to access it.
Portable storage,
small internal battery, SRAM.
Supported games
with saved functionalities.
A rarity there. It was not
widely produced. It was rare.
Non-universal support. Some later
models like the Gold Star and the FC-10
did not have the expansion
port required for the adapter. Oh, I didn't know that. So-10 did not have the expansion port required for the adapter.
Oh, I didn't know that.
So the one I had had the expansion port because it was connected to test it.
Again, all that stuff, if you type it in, you can see many videos of me testing that expansion thing.
Everything that I talk about now or before, there's a video somewhere of me. Because I had it.
I didn't have a Gold Star and I didn't have the C&O.
But I had FZ1 and I had FZ10.
And I had the storage.
And somewhere there's a video of it.
Pretty fun.
Alright, so that's kind of...
Let's see what the...
Game...
Game library.
For 3DO.
Let's see what kind of game library there was for 3DO.
200 official games.
Probably more than I thought there was.
Games like GEX.
I've never heard of that.
Crash and Burn.
Wolfenstein.
Out of this World. Probably from Gripping Story. That sounds like G.E.X. I've never heard of that. Crash and Burn. Wolfenstein. Out of This World.
Probably from Gripping Story.
That sounds like fun. Road Rash.
D.
The Horde.
Comedy starring Kirk Cameron.
Mixed action, strategy,
and comedy.
That sounds weird. First Person was Doom.
P.O.E.D.
Mist was there. John Madden. Night Trap. Oh, Night Trap was Doom. P.O.E.D. Mist was there.
John Madden.
Night Trap. Oh, Night Trap was on that too.
Night Trap has Dragon's Lair.
Yeah, there's Dragon's Lair.
Total Eclipse.
Space Shooter. I have some of those games too, still.
Exclusive titles.
Lucan's Quest. That sounds like fun.
Let's check that one out.
I've never had that one.
So I'm going to cross-reference in the eBay here while I'm doing it.
Because usually when it says it's hard to find, it's going to be real expensive.
I heard this.
Yep.
3DO.
Lucan's Quest.
$700 from Netherlands.
For a 3DO game.
$700 again.
Whoa.
$1,400.
Pretty cool.
Alright.
So that's how expensive these games can get.
Whoa, that was expensive.
Alright, let's see what else we got here.
So that one's one of the most expensive games I've seen in a while.
Alright, so now we're going to go on to a similar system.
Which is the...
Philips...
CDI.
History. Phillips CDI history this one's really fun basically the same kind of era 1990s I think was a little bit earlier the idea of the CDI in the mid 80s as well
brought the expansion capabilities to CDd format the goal is to create new standard of multimedia
partnership with sony uh green book launched the first cdi system the cdi uh 910 i have two of them
actually still i got rid of my good 450 released in 1991 my 450 had the memory upgrade. It's a cartridge thing and
you can put it in the 450
and then you can play the
better games.
Interactive multimedia.
CD based.
Powered by the Motorola
68000
series CPU.
Which was in a lot of those earlier
systems we've learned.
Hotel Mario, I have a boot copy of that.
And I have the link, the faces of evil and Zelda, Wand of Galmore.
And it's the only time that Link actually speaks.
It's really funny.
If you type that into my YouTube, you can see a little remix of Link speaking.
And I also have Hotel Mario as boot games. These Zelda games
were developed due to
a failed deal
with...
It was a failed deal between
Philips and Nintendo.
They made them anyway.
It says, were infamous for their awkward controls
and cheesy motion videos.
Cut screens.
Party and puzzle games like Apprentice
Connect 4. It was high priced.
At launch, a CD-i
was $700.
So they all were. Confusing market
for CD-i's as rather than
dedicated, it was more of a multimedia
than saying it was a dedicated gaming system.
Poor
libraries lacked compelling exclusives.
Production halted by the mid-90s.
Cease production of CD-i.
The last games and software released in 1998.
Legacy.
It was a failure, but it holds a gaming.
CD-i's today are very collectible.
Yeah, they're really, really fun.
If you can get those Zelda games original.
Oh, actually, I do have one of the original
the wand
but it doesn't work
but I have the original case and then I have three of them
the other three I have is
a boot copy that a buyer gave me
when I bought the system off of him
for lots of money
what is the game library
library What is the game library? Library. Library.
CDI.
Let's see what we got in the game library.
What's on there?
Hotel Mario 1994.
That one's pretty cool.
The Apprentice.
Lucky Luke. Atlantis The Last Resort. The Apprentice. Lucky Luke.
Atlantis, The Last Resort.
3D person shooter.
Zelda, The Wanda.
Link, The Face of Evil.
Zelda's Adventure.
I think I had that too.
Seventh Guest.
That was a PC game too.
Mists.
Lingo.
Full motion was Dragon's Lair.
Space Ace.
I still have a...
Oh, I have another one too.
I have a...
Dark Tower or something.
Simulation Parties.
Infamous titles.
Mario.
Rarity.
Yeah.
A lot of... these also had a um the controls are really weird but it was a gamepad that i had i sold for a bit and a mouse i just sold recently for the cdi there's also what memory cartridge memory cartridge to play better games
so the memory i know the 450 i could put it in but actually the memory cartridge is more
then it's called the digital video cartridge d Enhances the capabilities
Purpose
Provided hardware support for the MPEG-1
Video decoder
Capability of some of the games that
Wouldn't play other than not having it
Several
High profile
FMV heavy games
Required DVCs
Burn Cycle 7 Seventh Guest.
Dragon's Lair.
Space Ace.
Voyager.
An adult oriented FMV thriller.
Interesting.
Mad Dog.
I'm kind of curious about that one.
So I have my 910.
I have two of them.
And they work
to some degree
I just need
to get a memory
thing for it
and then sell the other one
or sell it for parts
one of the two
I'm going to see what this
Voyager one is
I don't see it
anywhere
no
let's see
let's try this oh it's a
voyeur not not voyager yeah boy you're like somebody watching somebody else see See that you avoid you don't get caught disc
That's actually not that bad only 1250 voyeur full motion factory
Cdi $29 don't get caught so there's a bunch of them. It's not that rare I guess
$19 But I'm looking for a CDI 910.
What did I say that was?
A DVC?
DVC.
What did we just say that was?
A DVC?
DVC.
So that's what I'm looking for.
Let's see what they're going for.
If I can find one.
I don't see any.
CDI.
They're around.
There's one right there.
Cartridge for the $180.
So there.
It's called the Phillips CDI.
220.
910 and 200 cartridge.
Those are expensive.
Nothing I can do now, but pretty fun.
All right, so let's go on to one.
Let's see where we're at now in time.
15 minutes.
Let's see.
I want to see how many consoles.
Oh, there they are.
So for separate consoles,
there was one for the 150,
the CDI 150.
There's a CDI 470.
And then the Gold Star had one too.
So the what models were there for CDI just do a compact I just want to get the model numbers philips models okay which is the cdi 205 one of the first cdi players
then there was a philips cdi 210 and then a cdi 220 and then a philips cdi 450 required the digital video cartridge for advanced. Then it was the CDI
470, which I'd
never seen. And then I had the CDI
910.
North America released of the
CDI 205. One of the
first models in the US.
It was big. It was like a big
DVD
player with a VCR.
That's how big it was. Big it is. I still have it. Bund player with a VCR. That's how big it is.
I still have them.
Bundled with a controller.
Then there was the Magnavox
CDI 200 series.
Released Magnavox
450.
And then Gold Star.
Oh, there was a professional model.
CDI 601. Oh, there's a professional model. CDI-601.
Oh, there's a lot more.
602.
605.
615 CDIs.
And there was a portable one.
CDI-350.
And CDI-360.
I never, I never.
Philips CDI-910 compact or portable version of the CDI.
Oh, there's a CD-I Mini.
Then a CD-I180.
Development kit prototype model used for commercial release.
Extremely rare.
Later models included.
So the CD-I400.
You could add the thing.
The DVC.
Philips CDA470
and the Gold Star, let's check that on eBay,
came with
the cartridge.
Pretty cool.
Let's see.
Not seeing any of it right now gold star
nope didn't come up
let's look let's do a little search
here
so that's the
two those are both really fun
systems but really awkward
CDI 182
rare
professional units were highly sought after so lots. CDI 182. Rare.
Professional units were highly sought after.
So lots of the CDIs.
Decline and Legacy.
Alright, so that's all the different ones here.
A rare variant was a Sony Discman IDP-100.
Experimented with
CDI but released only one
model in Japan.
Wow. Pretty cool.
I still have some CDI games.
Pretty fun stuff.
Alright, so that's my systems for today.
Let's see then tomorrow.
We'll pick something.
Oh, I'm going to do Amiga 32
CDs, which is basically
kind of the same
I think in the same year
except it was from Europe.
And that's one that's really fun. Then I have the
Apple Pippin,
R-Mark Pippin.
That's really fun. I had a couple of those.
There's really no way to play games on those.
At least I couldn't find it.
It was all internet driven somehow.
So the Apple Pippin.
Check that one out on eBay.
It's really expensive.
Yeah so we'll just stop there for today.
And we'll pick up and do a couple other ones tomorrow.
Alright have a good day.
Alright bye.
