Starting point is 00:00:00 all right so today we're going to do ps3 just drives we'll get some ideas about the booting process and all that good fun stuff so then we can see if there's any difference between the fats the super slim the slim and the super slim ps3 disk drive boot process Drive Boot Process Drive Game Boot Process So yesterday I did Xbox 360 So we're kind of in line with that Several steps involved
Starting point is 00:00:41 Inserting the disk So these are Blu-ray now Disk drives Blu-ray also for xbox 360 i believe right let's see what we got going on here it's putting some stuff out here so we know that the it's so easy to do and a safe mode ps3 or ps4 but you can put any random disk drive to put a new one on like upgrade to two terabytes throw it in there do the safe mode reinstall and boom you're done xbox xbox 360 especially xbox one is a whole different animal it's a whole different process you got to get a system on there all right so it's so we're inserting the disk ps3 checks the disk to make sure it's legit let's see if
Starting point is 00:01:29 there's some sort of a signature reads a unique signature and better than the disk so all these desks have some sort of wobble groove or a sector or something on a universal drive format installed he uses a UDF format. The PS3 OS mounts the disc as a readable drive. System checks for boot games such as PAR RAM.FSFO contains the information, firmware requirements. Eboot.bin bin the executable file ps3 game folder contains the game data such as disk drive communications
Starting point is 00:02:14 process uses also the disk drives disk driver would be the dry boards specific specific drive boards BMD-001, 002 or BMD-065 so I'm not sure which one they're talking about for that could that sounds like the ones for the ps3 slims so different drive boards will have different model numbers and then the fat member the ps3AT has a whole library from A to E, A, E, and B, backwards compatible. A and B being true backwards compatible. G is like a transition, then there's an H, there's the
Starting point is 00:02:55 K, the L, the M, and the P. And then PS2 slims, which are the 2001, oh one the two uh two one oh one oh one and there's a two five oh one two five oh one yeah and then the three thousand bottles so then the super slims which are the four thousand models all right so let's so that every one of those is gonna have different dry boards in them so
Starting point is 00:03:23 although my buddy zippy here told me three different dry boards, there's lots of other ones. The system performs a DRM, Digital Rights Management check. The game is tampered. As I've said the last couple of times, they should just have not even done any of that. Save all that money and just let it go because everyone's gonna mod them eventually for many systems the system is totally partial portion of the game onto the internal drive yeah yeah that's was a pain what I don't like about ps3s is when you put a game in it took like 20 minutes all right let's see what else is going on with this. So, run time, which can use to run the disk. PS3 cell processor and RSVGPU handle the game execution and rendering.
Starting point is 00:04:16 So, it has cell processor. Error handling if any issues arise, you have to clean the disk. Alright, so, we'll ask ask it was there any difference between I'm sure fat slim and super slim disc boot process remember slim super slim process so the three three minute when we did Xbox 360, that was fat. This is the S1439 and then the E1538. So now we're doing, it's pretty much compatible with the boot process, the SuperSIM.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Fundamentally all the same, share the same core. Operating system, the CHCA and 2G models used a the outer disk drive board case yes dash 400 a or KES450A drive board inside. And there was also the other drive board. Then there was the... Actually, the 3000 didn't have a drive board in it. The 3000 model and the 2501A doesn't have a drive board.
Starting point is 00:06:00 The lens isn't there, though. And then there was a paired drive board BDM065. The lenses in there though, and then there was a paired drive board BDM 6 065 That would be for the early models the 2001 or 2101 Super slim had a simpler mechanical disc load top Eliminated some mechanical company was very simple just after drives completely different the boot process or seats for the fat models used first incorporate
Starting point is 00:06:33 blu-ray technology process could be slower do the older hardware you know more prone to overheating and cause the yellow light of death. Or on and right off, I call it on and right off. Let's see here. Yeah, so they were prone to overheating. Slim models were fast and more efficient drives and improved cooling. Super slim to switch to the top manual and simplify the highway.
Starting point is 00:06:59 It was very easy. Since it relied on manual, we can't use errors. Not closing because it has a sliding door which is terrible that was my downfall that but you always want to have the last the last model like I I have a ps3 super slim and I also have a Xbox e 1538 that i kept normally i don't keep things but i kept one of them but also for the super slim there's the 4001 and i think there's a 4101 the last model is a 43001 i believe and the actual last motherboard and the last ps3 slim is the t-rex, I call it. The REX-001 has one less
Starting point is 00:07:46 Wi-Fi cable. Only has one connection inside. So that would be the best technology of the PS3. Would be the last one, correct? Super Slims required higher firmware versions as they launched and supported newer games and features.
Starting point is 00:08:04 So you could play better games with those consumed those fat models obviously consumed way more power slim models and super slim were much less power and heat fat models required a lot of repair old laser assemblies kes-400a were prone to failure I still have a lot of those disk drives and I bet you a lot of the lenses work. It's a little teeny cable on that outer
Starting point is 00:08:31 drive board that often breaks if you pull it just the wrong way. And then the other little cable the little ribbon cable the blue tab can fall off. I've got some of those to list. And some of them have the metal plating on it. Some of them don't.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Slim models are easier to replace certain components. But still required. Match dry boards and motherboards. But again, that's only for the 2001A and the 2101A. The 2500 and all the 3000 did not have a dry board. Super slim, simplified disks. When the disk group itself was largely the same across all three generations. So drive mechanism, loaded slot motorized for the FAT,
Starting point is 00:09:25 slot loading improved. And then the Super Slim was manual. You just slide that silly door. Simply paired. So there was no dry board in the Super Slim. Slim was BMD-065. Backwards compatible was only... I didn't realize this. I'm just
Starting point is 00:09:46 getting this now. So it says backwards compatible. This is saying that any PS3 fat, slim or super slim, plays PS1 games. I did not know that. PS2 only we know the A and the B
Starting point is 00:10:02 has the true COK-001 motherboard with the EPS to chip the C okay dash 002 for the e does not have an emulated emulator trip somehow so read speeds were slow faster on slim similar to slim error or prone to some error problems high power reduced lowest library of the PS3 let's see what the game library is it's gotta be huge let me see if it was 2000 I think they said for 360
Starting point is 00:10:52 gotta be more still about the same 2000 physical and digital games between 2006 and discontinued all the way to 2017. Interesting. So, Uncharted, Last of Us,
Starting point is 00:11:11 classics up there. Demon's Soul, I've never played that. Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, lots of sports, lots of silly fighting stuff. Indian games, Horror, Dead Space, Hero of the End, Silent Hill, Downpour. I've never played that one. Indian games horror dead space sound hill downpour
Starting point is 00:11:28 never played that one so exclusives were the uncharted series last of us remastered and I think it was remastered again and the last of us 2 was just out and then it was remastered I'm sure it will be remastered again at some point
Starting point is 00:11:44 heavy rain that was pretty cool for it's time it was way beyonded. I'm sure we remastered again at some point Heavy rain that was pretty cool for its time. It was way beyond its time It's one of those Detroit becoming human kind of games until dawn I got the remake never played it, but I have it The back of compatibility was a and B was the original Play the models back for Canada, but retained ps support, allowing gamers to enjoy. I never knew that. I return to right now. I2 classic, PS1 classics, popular digital games Journey, the Walking Dead Telltale games,
Starting point is 00:12:32 those were kind of cartoonish, couldn't get into those, multi-platform titles, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed for the millionth time, Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, big fan Bioshock
Starting point is 00:12:47 not so much Grand Theft Auto, didn't like that oh yeah, then there was the PS Move which is like the K'nex but not as popular Sports Champion Beat Skeeter huh?
Starting point is 00:13:03 huh? alright, let's see what we're at. So, PS1 games on any PS3. So, the move, I have some moves somewhere around. You need to have the move with the VR. Free-to-play games. Warframe, DC Universe, CrossGen. Last of Us, that went to PS4.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And then, services like playstation now it's now playstation premium premium plus so let's look for any rare ps3 games usually find yesterday we found a few things of the xbox 360 i never heard of really expensive rare is the most sought after games. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Battle. Africa. A-F-R-I-K-A. Simulation
Starting point is 00:14:02 of Africa. Folklore. Unique. Let me look here. simulation of Africa folklore unique good ebay like to cross track see if I can feel how much these things are worth so let's try folklore cult classic RPG the last guy unique game most regions RPG. The Last Guy. Neat game. Most regions. There's a copy. Bird's Eye View from Annoying Zombies. Rule of the Rose. PS2 Classic on PS3.
Starting point is 00:14:34 I have a copy of that, but not the original. It's digital released on PS3 as a PS2 Classic. Gave it a second life but its original ps cut remains rare so there's a rule of rose for ps3 i didn't know that rule of rose i know for ps2 is like crazy let's just see what maybe there's a rule of roses yeah $300 one bid $700 $400 PS real rule of Rose PS3 so when doubt get
Starting point is 00:15:12 it get a copy PS3 I don't see it coming up as this full of rows. I don't see it. Hunting Ground is the other one. It'satterhouse. I got those as copies for Genesis. So Splatterhouse, the original one. 1 and 2. I have 2 and 3. But I never saw original Splatterhouse. Maybe it's just on PS3. Splatterhouse PS3. And I think it's on 360, yeah there it is, $80
Starting point is 00:16:08 rare I don't think it's the same as the $50 $75, $79 whoa so that one is rare just as it is on 360 mostly it's football, for some reason
Starting point is 00:16:24 it was the last football, they discontinued it, on 360. Mostly it's football. For some reason it was the last football. They discontinued it. 3D.game heroes. A love letter to Zelda-like experience. It had a niche audience and a low production run. 3D.heroes.
Starting point is 00:16:40 Let's try that one. Doing the cross-reference here on eBay. Just to get an idea what that is. PS3. 3D.Heroes. Oh, that kind of reminds me of a Minecraft. It's all blocky. Yeah, that's what it looks like.
Starting point is 00:16:59 3D. Yeah, it's something I would never play. $29.30. No, that's $60. Yeah, it looks like a Minecraft Minecraft which I never understood that game it's really blocky siren blood curse I think I remember that one a survival horror title That'd be Mark Malley. Let's see. Survivor. Curse. Siren. Blood Curse.
Starting point is 00:17:34 It's region free, but it says POW. $89. $139. New translation. $37. New translation. I wonder what the difference is between the original one and the other one. It says new translation. Seren Blood Curse is one. The other one says new translation.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Blood Curse, $96 from Italy. $127 UK. That must have been a Euro game. $94 from Italy $127 UK that must have been a euro game $94 from Portugal but then the blood curse one is the one that's blood curse $100 so that's the one we'll put as my photo today the siren blood curse this looks like it's mostly was in Europe. But Japan had a physical edition which is now rare. Rarely as a digital title in
Starting point is 00:18:31 most regions. Spider-Man Shadow, Shattered Dimensions, Tales of Symphonia, Chronicles, Yakuza's Dead Souls, Hyper Dimension
Starting point is 00:18:50 Neptunid Games, Cabral's Big Game Hunter 2012, pounded with a top shot elite gun control. This game had limited production. I actually got one of those guns, I think.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Or two of them, I think. Uh, Techred Hybrid. Painkiller. A low run. DuckTales Remastered. They didn't have a lot of remasters. So PS1s or PS2s. Uh, PS3s and PS4s when all the remastering started, I think.
Starting point is 00:19:28 What's the other one there that's been remastered like four times? Kingdom Hearts, right? Isn't it like Kingdom Hearts and it's like 2.0 and then it's like 2.3 and a half and 4.0 or something. I never played it. It seems like fun. Alright, so that's where we're at. So that's PS3, a little rundown. A lot of libraries
Starting point is 00:19:50 pretty much compatible to the Xbox 360. And then tomorrow, I will go back to Nintendo. Will I go back to Nintendo? Or I may look at some other systems that I haven't really hit on yet.
Starting point is 00:20:06 Like a PC-FX or a PC Engine. We'll look at some of the games and stuff from those. Although not as popular here, they were really popular. Neo Geo is another good one, too. So we'll look at those maybe tomorrow. We'll see what we come up with. All right, you guys have a good day. I'll talk to you later.
Starting point is 00:20:23 All right, bye.
