Starting point is 00:00:00 Alright, so for a Saturday afternoon, we're going to go on to some new cartridges. What I may do, so we did Sega, I got three Sega cartridges in today. Pretty fun, one's called Crusader of Century. And then I have Splatterhouse 2 and Splatterhouse 3. Now all three of these I just got. They're all replicas. Not the originals. They're really light.
Starting point is 00:00:31 So it's probably just a small little ROM card inside. And I only got them because they were rare finds the other day. When I was doing Sega cartridges. So we went through all the Sega cartridges. And I always ask what the rare ones are. But this guy has them on eBay for like not much at all.
Starting point is 00:00:51 And each one is a replica. So we're going to try them later. They just came to mail today so that's exciting. So we'll play around with those at some point. I'll fire up a Sega and we'll see if these games work. So Crusaders of Century's supposed to be like a Zelda game for Genesis.
Starting point is 00:01:08 So we'll see if that... So speaking of that, I think maybe I'll stick with Sega today. So we did all the cartridges, right? Game Gear. I think I did pretty much... I did the Game Gear. Nomad. Sega Nomad just plays
Starting point is 00:01:23 Sega Genesis games. So then we'll go, let's go on to, we'll do um, let's do Sega CD Sega CD Sega CD game
Starting point is 00:01:39 code process. And we can do Sega Saturn too. Maybe finish up with Sega Dreamcast yeah we'll do we'll make a Sega the only cuz these Sega cartridges just just came in alright so Sega hardware initialization so the GPU is a Sega is a Genesis 668 thousand so BIOS loading loads the BIOS so we know that disk verification so I look for more for like the CD itself I want to find out like how fast it runs secondary so Motorola you know it's Sega custom ASI executive executive of the game code genesis 600 works alongside the sega cd cpu to execute the game
Starting point is 00:02:30 uses full motion video so if you ever play a sega cd game a lot of them are little like mini movies inside they're hard to see now because it's so old it's hard to really see them anymore but i do do have like Sewer Shark. And I have the one with Dana Plato in it. From Facts of Life. No not Facts of Life. Dana Plato was in. I can't think of what she was in.
Starting point is 00:02:56 But she's in that one. It's called The Night Traps. It's really hard to play. I don't really understand it. But it's cool as a collector thing. So the CD uses a copyright. The CD used a rudimentary form of copyright protection based on the TOC in disk format to have the inner wobble thing. Wobble or something that identifies if it's original or not.
Starting point is 00:03:34 So Sega CDs. So now we'll do a library of Sega. Sega. It didn't really give me too much on the boot of it, but Sega CD Library. So I'm just kind of
Starting point is 00:03:51 trying to figure out new things to do each day and midday here. Keeping with the gaming theme. Also known as the Mega CD in the other regions. Oh, I know I forgot a cartridge.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Oh, I know what we'll do. We'll do this one, then we'll double back to some other cartridges. PowerBase. I forgot about PowerBase. And Sega... Oh, the Sega cards, too. All right, so Full Motion, Night Trap, there it is. Sewer Shock, there's the other one. Ground Zero, Texas. I never had that one.
Starting point is 00:04:32 The key point for these is leveraging the CD-ROM's storage capacity for video sequences. Many Sega or Genesis games were ported to the Sega CD to improve features like the examples,
Starting point is 00:04:48 Eco of Dolphin features, new animated cut scenes and remastered music, Earth, Ram, Joe, Sonic CD. I've got to find my other Sonic CD games. I started working on Sega CD the other day.
Starting point is 00:05:04 So I went through them. There's two different motherboards of them, and that makes for two different kinds of drives. I just haven't found my CD, so I could go back and test those. The Sega CD, I wouldn't run the Sega drive alone. Yeah, so CD can't run on its own. It has to be, you have to have the 1631, which is usually the dreaded,
Starting point is 00:05:24 unless you can get the version 3 or 4 your best bet so I don't know it's been about a week or a few weeks that I've talked about we were doing the whole boot process talking about the Sega itself and how they've really cut
Starting point is 00:05:39 corners after the first 1601 when it says high definition graphics. After that, Sega, all of them, after it went way downhill for cheaper video cards, video chips and all that.
Starting point is 00:05:56 So you want to have an original high def graphics one. Notable features in the Sega CD library. Many Sega games featured soundtracks that soundtracks animated cutscenes enhanced visual effects North America City library was impressed full-motion video Japan use the RPGs Mega CD in Europe size of the library here we go
Starting point is 00:06:27 so Sega CD had about 150 games in the United States Japan had about 200 games and Europe had about 50 some exclusives collecting Sega CD games today Kel flying squadron normal rare games panic
Starting point is 00:06:50 space adventure emulation and accessibility many games are now played through emulation such as Kiga fusion or retro arc some games like Sonic CD have been remastered Sega CD games some rare games Kilo the Flying Squadron Snatcher Cyberpunk Adventure Hitachi Kajiyama who does my favorite game ever Death Stranding
Starting point is 00:07:37 and Death Stranding 2 which looks simply out of this world is coming this 2025 set so he did that too. Snatcher. Cyberpunk Adventure. Limited front.
Starting point is 00:07:51 Let's look on eBay. I see something that catches my eye. Let's see what that is. Let's see how expensive it is. Plus it's his game too. I have another game of his from PS3. That's really weird. You have swords or something. I don't know what it's so. I have another game of his from PS3 that's really weird.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Some kind of, you have swords or something. I don't know what it's called. I can't remember. All right, let's see what this one's going for. I always go off track once I see something catches my eye. So it's called Snatcher. Let's see what it is. Let's see if we can find it.
Starting point is 00:08:25 This would be Sega CD. Yep, Snatch. $1,300. Yo. In the box. $500 just for a disc. Konami. $2,000. Snatcher Soundtrack. $100. Body
Starting point is 00:08:41 Snatchers. $75. Snatcher. Body snatchers $75 snatcher $1,000 $1,000 Why are these $600 I'm trying to figure out why this one guy
Starting point is 00:09:03 Has around I'm trying to figure out why this one guy has a percent you know what I really can't afford it but I'm gonna buy that yeah I'm gonna to buy that. Yeah, I'm going to buy that. Because there's not even ones that were even close to what he was offering. Snatcher. Sega CD, complete in the box.
Starting point is 00:09:39 In case, tested, rare, $75. With tax, it was like $80-something. But everyone else was so much higher. I mean, the other ones were in the hundreds. That's my little shopping for today. Cool, so when that comes up, we'll play around with Snatcher. I need to take a CD game anyway. And that was sick. Because everyone else is $1,000.
Starting point is 00:10:02 And it's in its case, too. I don't know. It's not saying a replica. Either way, it don't matter. So all the other ones are $1,000. And this one was $75. Either that guy didn't research it, or he just...
Starting point is 00:10:20 I don't know. It's mine now. Unless he meant it... Maybe maybe needed to put it for $750. I'm not sure what happened. But let's see if I get that. Because that would be pretty fun. Yep, $75. Buy now.
Starting point is 00:10:36 $6.699 delivered. New in the box. Someone else won't hear. Complete in the box for $2,000. The disc only was $500. So I was just kind of cruising through
Starting point is 00:10:51 not seeing, expecting all the same prices and I saw $75. And I think it has a manual and everything. Cool. That would be fun. I'd like that. And people watch. I don't know why people do watching.
Starting point is 00:11:07 The game looks silly, but it's alright. Yeah, it's the old almost like it looks like Snatcher kind of reminds me of King's Quest maybe, kind of thing. So
Starting point is 00:11:24 I just nagged that one up. Kind of thing. So. I just nagged that one up. Video Game Paradise. I can't see him. Why he would sell that. I don't know. It's not the big case. But it's in the other case.
Starting point is 00:11:36 That's fine. It don't matter. We'll go for it. Alright. So. Let's. Oh. So we're on Sega CD. So I I picked up a game I can't really afford Lunar Eternal Blue RGP RPG
Starting point is 00:11:56 Space Adventure Cobra Shining Force CD Popful Mail Robo LSD Panic Wild Woody Limited Print Run It's Bizarre Premise
Starting point is 00:12:20 You Play as a Cental Pencil Attitudes Culture Wild Willy you play as a pencil attitudes culture wild willy turbo graphics cd classic lords of the thunder fatal fury special radical
Starting point is 00:12:36 rex space adventure earthworm jim special edition so let's do how were no I'm going to stick with this for now Sega
Starting point is 00:12:50 Saturn Sega Saturn games CD CD code process CD code process
Starting point is 00:13:09 different. Otherwise what? Process was different from the Sega CD. I said why, but I meant to say how. So the Sega CD process functioned as an add-on to the Sega Genesis relying heavy on its partner console, limited to one CPU,
Starting point is 00:13:35 a secondary CPU. Sega Saturn was a standalone with a complex dual CPU architecture. Two Hitachi, oh that's right, remember this says the SH2 processors. Much more sophisticated. Sega CD, Copper 8 was just table of contents. Sega Saturn implemented a more advanced physical copy
Starting point is 00:13:58 using the wobble groove. There's that wobble groove again. That's how they check on the disk, some sort of a groove that it looks for. Saturn Bio was performed region lock. CD format relied on ISO 9660
Starting point is 00:14:16 format. Games were limited by the Genesis compatibility. Because it was using, the host was the Genesis compatibility. Because it was using the host was the Genesis. Sega Saturn was CD
Starting point is 00:14:31 format. It was supported by Redbook Audio. That's the Saturn. Sega CD game code execution was through that Motorola 68000. Sega CD game code execution was through that Motorola 68000 Sega CD game code execution was far more complex Sega Saturn is really fun I've got a lot of the Japan games they're mostly all Japan games Sega Saturn was designed for advanced to no Sega CD was limited scaling full motion video
Starting point is 00:15:05 mostly sprites based dominated limited 3D effects whereas the Saturn was 2D and 3D rendering which featured quantum quantum reality based 3D rendering as opposed to triangles used in
Starting point is 00:15:21 most systems so that's why Sega I've got some cool I got the dark seed one and two it's kind of like King's Quest big fan loading and streaming rely heavily CD on the full motion video Sega Saturn had improved loading times and had cache data and a RAM games could preload levels where the CDs had to load as it as it went infamously difficult to develop to the complex architecture so they were hard to make the games why the Sega Saturn's
Starting point is 00:16:00 process was more complex the technological, so it was a bigger leap, aimed to compete with the PlayStation. Increased security with the wobble groove. High expectations. All right, so... Sega Saturn game library. Game library. Library. Library.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Sega Saturn Game Library. Total games was 1,250 worldwide. Japan by far had the most. 1,100 games and all the really good ones are there in Japan. Most of them play with some English. Others are really heavy in Japan. Around 250 in North America. And 180 in Europe.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Fighting games. We're going to skip right over that. Because we're not on fighting games. Panzer Dragon Saga. I have one of those. The Saga 2. I had the case. And I found the game.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Arcade Styles. House of the Dead. Shoot'em Up games. Thunder Force V. Puzzles. Platforms Night Sins of the Dream Astral
Starting point is 00:17:27 Bubble Symphony Sports and Racing Notable Titles Granda Policenauts There's another game Policenauts
Starting point is 00:17:43 A Cinematic Adventure Also by Hidu Tikama Oh, then there's another game. Oh, God. Police Knots. A cinematic adventure also by Hidu Tikama. I don't know how to say his name, but we're not going to look at that one because I just bought one from him. The Saga. The Pages of Saga are priced at more than $1,000
Starting point is 00:17:58 for a full copy. For the original one. There's a second one that I have that's not worth that much. So we'll just keep moving. We'll go for the original one. There's a second one that I have. That's not worth that much. So we'll just keep moving. We'll go for the rare. Sega. Nope. Sega Saturn.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Saturn games. This gets me in trouble. Because then I look at something. But I did get these three Sega Genesis games. We're going to turn them on in a few minutes. So he's saying in 1998, the Panzer Dragon Saga. Only released 30,000 copies. But isn't there a Dragon 2?
Starting point is 00:18:37 Radiant Silver Gun. Released in Japan. Shining Force 3. Burning Rangers. Albert Odyssey. Shining Force 3. Burning Rangers. Albert Odyssey. Legend of Eldin. Signed for high quality but limited run. Magic Knight.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Ray Earth. So all these are saying they're around $6,000. Dragon Force. House of the Dead. Let's shoot them up. Saturn Bomberman. Oh, Bomberman's great. I have that.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Bomberman's like Pac-Man, but you have bombs. It's pretty cool. Astral. It was a stunning 2D platform that didn't sell well due to the focus on 3D. Flying Squadron, Hyperdule, Tarot, Moray, Policenauts. So that's Policenauts. Of course, I have to go look now on eBay. Policenauts.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Let's see what that one is. Policenauts. Let's see what that one is. Policenauts. Sounds funny. Oh, there it is. Oh, it's not too bad. $34. $34. Snatcher.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Oh, there you can get that. I got Snatcher and that for what I paid for the original. So that's both of them. Snatcher and Policenaut. Two games from Hitachi. I don't know how to say his name. So those are around. But I got the full case for the other ones.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Oh, and it looks like it has a gun with it. Policenaut's a shooting thing. So I think Policenaut is too. I have some guns though actually I don't know if they're for Sega Saturn I don't think so $84 for a gun and a Snatcher
Starting point is 00:20:32 so a lot of times you can get like I bought this game Sega CD but you can get it cheaper if you buy the Japan version and it's normal a lot of them will play mostly in English anyway. Grand R, RPG. All right, so I think we'll just do that today.
Starting point is 00:20:56 So we did the Sega CD, which we've determined is mostly like little full motion video, mostly. They don't really play that cool. Sega Saturn, much better. Much better system than the Sega CD. And
Starting point is 00:21:17 the next time, I'll save Dreamcast for later. There should be a lot of titles. Although Dreamcast would be probably not that many titles for Dreamcast for later. There should be a lot of titles. Although Dreamcast would be. Probably not that many titles for Dreamcast. I think Sega or Saturn had more. More than all three of those. But we'll save that for next time. And I'll do that maybe with something else.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Alright you guys have a good evening. And going to a long holiday weekend. But I'll see you tomorrow morning. Alright have a good night. Bye.
