Today I'm going to continue. We'll go on to SuperFanCom today.
So let's do SuperFanCom Game Cartridge Code Process.
I'm going to kind of go from there. Let's see what it does.
It usually spits me a little bit of a history.
So the Superfan
Fancom
SFC cartridge
followed a specific code
and process for function.
Okay, so
it's a little bit different. The cartridge
code process.
Each Superfan cartridge
had a unique identifier stored in its header.
The header includes a game code for alpha numeric characters that identify the specific
game. Region codes distinguish between Super Fan Com and Super Nintendo. Super Fan cartridges
are designed for Japanese consoles,
and the lockout chip ensures they work only on compatible systems.
A CIC lockout chip, also called the CIC,
the Checking Integrity Circuit,
prevents cartridges from other regions from functioning on a Japanese Superfancom.
See, now, I'm supposed't do that with the N64.
So the N64, if you take off the cartridge slot,
it'll play both Japan and U.S. games.
GameCube didn't do it.
For some reason, that one did.
I wonder why they didn't put a lock on it.
Super Fan Con uses Memory M mapper, ROM and RAM. ROM stores the high ROM games header includes title game ROMs size of
it where it's going the region regions specified NTSC timing super fan car colleges super fan comm cartridges operated at 60 Hertz
NTSC
J standard
compared to the PAL
region
Which was at 50 Hertz so it's lower. Oh, you know what I heard today
I actually saw the videos for the new Nintendo switch. It's bigger looks like a lot more tactical advanced
But again, it's just another switch look kind of moment about that
I hope it was something else so you got to check out the videos on YouTube looks pretty cool though
I'd get one this timing. It's backwards compatible to it says
Just a lot bigger it looks like this timing
Loading process is using the chip so customized
enhancements super fx chip for 3d rendering starfox an sa-1 chip super mario rpg for additional
processing power uh dsp chip for audio audio like pilot wings.
All right.
So let's see what kind of library this is.
Library was there.
What kind of library?
I kind of just say it really quick, and they usually don't understand what I'm saying so it was vast collection of libraries spinning numerous various
different places so role-playing like Final Fantasy 5 & 7 part 6 Dragon Quest. Chrono Trigger.
Tales of Phantasia.
Live A Live.
Live A Live.

mother two earthbound
fire emblem
uh
sin magni
uh
let's see games there's
super scope game another
scope game was a BS
Sata View game.
Some sort of
says there was
over 1,400
official licensed games
and hundreds of exclusives
for Super Fancom.
What rare games are there?
I was going to check out the rare games too.
Let's see what we get for rare games.
Um, there's a list of rare and valuable games.
Uh, Rendering Ranger 2.
Only 10,000 copies made. a list of rare and valuable games. Rendering Ranger 2. Only
10,000 copies made.

I had a copy of that one time.
Nintendo Power Flash.
There we go.
Nintendo Power Flash Cartridges.
Reason for Rarity.
Custom cartridge will play
players downloaded games
onto a writable chip.
Huh, so that's different.
Games like
Sudica and Final Fantasy 76
were offered this way.
So a Nintendo
Pop Flash
Nintendo Power Flash
cartridges. Reminds me of
the
Fancom. They had that kiosk where you could bring your Nintendo Power Flash cartridges. Reminds me of the.
The Fancom.
They had that kiosk. Where you could bring your.
FDS disc.
Super.
Fox weekend competition.
A rare.
Campus challenge in Powerfest 94.
$5,000 for that one.
Limited production.
Let's see what else we got. Hard to find. $5,000 for that one. Limited production. Um,
let's see what else we got. Hard to find.
Treasure Hunter G.
The Fireman.
Uh, Far East of Eden.
Why are they
limited? I mean, why are they rare for limited
productions? Only Japan.
Promotionals.
Um,
so is there a kiosk
for that then? I want to know more
about
this here.
What is
Nintendo Power Cartridges?
What is that?
That caught my eye.
What is that?
Nintendo
Let's see.
Were writable game cartridges released in Japan.
They allowed players to download games from a kiosk.
So this had a kiosk too.
This is similar to the
So how the Nintendo Power Flash cartridge worked.
The cartridge had a built-. Writable flash memory.
Allowed to erase and reload games.
Many times.
The cartridges were available.
For Super Fan Com.
Large cartridges.
With heavy memory.
Capacity.
Also Game Boy and Game Boy Color.
Nintendo Power Kiosks.
Players would visit.
Specific stores in Japan. Where kiosks were set up specific stores in Japan or kiosks
set up so now I have to find out what that is
Nintendo so we know that there's the kiosk for the boy Japan was so much
better than we were what it looks like I'll put a JPEG image of it on my thing. So both...
Pretty cool looking.
I see it.
I see it now.
Alright, so that's one.
Oh yeah, it had slots and everything.
Wow.
That's really, really cool.
So we didn't write anything like that.
Oh, let's see.
What was it? Nintendo.
Nintendo.
Power.
Let's put Nintendo Power.
Alright, so you can check that out.
I'll put it as my main photo.
Let's see what else we got here.
Players could visit the kiosks.
They'd pick up a game, pay a fee.
Keys with small print book out for each manual.
Oh, they print it out of a book for you, too.
That's pretty neat.
Wow, that's really high tech.
First, pay to reduce fee.
Uh, games available on Nintendo Power.
Super Fancom titles.
All the really, some of the good ones.
Some of the Game Boy games.
Not many games though. Why were they rare?
The system
was not a massive success and was
discontinued in the early 2000s.
Lost games. Some title exclusives were never
released making them highly sought
after.
Valuable ones are the Super Fancom
Power cartridges and the game cartridges legacy
oh that's pretty neat so let's go yeah let's go on to N64 game cartridge code process.
I think I'm up to that now.
N64.
I wonder if there's any kiosks for that, too.
So they had two different kiosks that you could go to.
It says code process includes a combination of identifiers and functions
allowed to recognize and run the games. Physical connections. The N64 inserted the pins. You can change that pin slot comes off of the motherboard of the N64. So you can pull it off and clean underneath it. game titles, region code, checksum, CIC check
system, but it didn't
have a region lock otherwise
region lock games from running on the
console. That's not true.
If it did not respond correctly, the game
wouldn't load.
Different CIC chips
specifically like Legend of
Zelda required
a special CICF2 bypass hardware limitations.
Again, you needed for the N64, you needed the jumper pack, but you needed the upgrade memory pack.
The red one.
Region codes, force region codes using the chip.
So it's saying there's Japan United
States and pal that's not correct because you can pull you can put either
one in there you know it'll play both expansion pack required some games like
perfect dark which is N64 insert the cartridge will Boot code executed. Game loaded.
RDRAM for processing.
Notable codes in the game cartridge.
For character identifier.
N64.
Super Mario 64 was coded with NSMJ.
Where N stands for N64 platform SM stands for same specific
identifier and J is region. Copy bypass may be licensed
attempted bypass chip by a modem foot the EverDrive 64 and 64 drive modern flash cards emulate to run.
There was also the Rumble Pack on those.
Some cards included built-in battery backup, the Legend of Zelda, Oracle of Time, and the EE Prom for saving games like Mario Kart 64.
Games like Paper Mario's the controller pack for
saving you can also put a controller pack into the controls really weird on
the n64 many egg n64 games of the rebel pack yep custom cartridge enhancements include hardware for such as like a train library should have been
a big library that games through the libraries for that oh I ran out I ran out of space here Oh no
