podcast about guys I am
Brian
my co-host is here
this week. Not bad to
the bone. Chris James. Hi Chris.
Sorry, is it billiards
guys that we're doing?
Well, what? You think we're doing bad to the
bone guys? Well, I just don't understand. I guess
I don't get the connection. It's the most
pool song ever made.
Oh, like from the day I was born.
You know what I mean? Like in a movie if they're going to play
a pool game, like someone's going to like
someone's a pool shark or something
then they'll play that like did they play that on the famous
fresh fresh prince episode
I didn't know there was a fresh prince episode
oh really it's not billiard but it's pool
it's it's Uncle Phil like
shows up he's like you know Jeffrey
take out Lucille I think his
cue is called Lucille
and he like some guys anyway
so let's bring the guest on
from the wrestling brain stream
and hire Brian he does a podcast
with me once a month.
Josh Custodio.
Hi, Josh.
Hi, Brian.
Hi, Chris.
I love that episode of Fresh Prince.
And he like sharks the shark.
Yeah.
I forget who he's saving.
Is it Will?
It's Will.
Will,
Will gets sharked by this guy and loses a bunch of money.
And then he calls Uncle Phil and Uncle Phil shows up.
Like he thinks he's going to be mad at him.
And then Uncle Phil's like, um, so how do I do this?
I get hit the white ball first into the like, it's like the most over the top shark job ever.
And he like, he's like missing it and shit.
And then he fools the guy.
And then as soon as the guy's like, agrees to play him for a tent and $100 a ball or something,
then he's like, Jeffrey, breakout Lucille.
And then he like pulls the custom cue out of his pocket.
It's a great episode of a great show, honestly.
I played pool a lot growing up.
I was not a shark.
I don't think I ever bet on pool other than maybe like a cigarette.
I thought you were going to say, I don't think I ever won.
I did win.
I was going to pool.
Yeah.
Well, not good.
Let's back up there.
I wouldn't call myself good at pool, but I would call myself surprisingly better than you might think.
Well, if you play a lot, I suppose, like, I think we've covered it on bonus episodes, maybe on main episodes.
I grew up with a pool table in my house.
That's not fair.
So I was, I think I was pretty good at pool in the, I played all the time.
Like my brother and I would play, I played every single day.
I played pool.
So I like got pretty good.
I like got pretty decently good at it, but I feel like I lost a lot of it because I think later on in my life, I would play a little bit and I would, I wouldn't be very good.
Like I did, I think it's something you have to like keep doing unless you're like at a super high level, you know.
Well, I'm less good now too.
I do think I can see Chris getting back into it like you did bowling.
But Josh, are you a pool guy?
Do you play any pool?
I have horrible memories associated with it.
My first girlfriend also had a pool in her basement at her basement at her.
parents house. A pool table. That's right, a pool table. Okay, because Brian, Brian's parents have all
the hot tub in their basement. My parents do have a hot tub in their basement. A whole different scene.
And I mostly remember her brothers just always wanting to play it and they had played it for their
whole lives. And then I show up. I don't even know if I'd ever played pool. I'm horrible. I just
remember losing to her brothers forever and then being like, man, you really suck at pool and having
to explain it. It's like, yeah, you guys have done this for your whole life. Come,
challenge me at like sitting around or throwing sticks at sticks. I'll dust you. That's my zone.
Yeah, yeah. That's unfair thing and people love to, you know, I heard a thing. Brian and I like to listen
to a lot of these comedy drama channels where they talk about, you know, the drama between
comedians. I love them too. Too lazy to try these guys. Too lazy to try. Yeah, too lazy to try. Yeah,
too lazy to try is great. And, but I heard that Joe Rogan, I think, I don't know who was mentioning it,
but Joe Rogan will do that where he's like,
hey, come play pool.
And Joe Rogan's really good at pool.
So he's like, hey, come play pool.
And he'll just fucking destroy these people who don't play at all,
like over and over and over again.
Like not in a funny way or anything.
He takes it really.
Yeah, they can't get mad about it either.
The power dynamics messed.
They have to just, oh, this is fun.
Yeah, exactly.
You have to do like, you're like an opener.
If you hang around on Joe Rogan,
you're constantly like an opener, like a comedy opener.
Good job, boss.
Hey, nice.
Nice shot there, boss.
Nice joke there, boss.
Oh, man, I like that.
Did you get better since I last saw you, Joe?
Joe, that's fantastic how they made a pool queue that's small enough for a guy your size.
I've talked about this in the past.
And it's my favorite thing in the world is, obviously there's plenty of psychos on Reddit.
I mean, we know that from now.
At every subreddit, in every subreddit.
But if there is a forum, we find the next level.
and I have good news.
The ones who are like Reddit's,
no, I'm not on Reddit.
They like look down their nose of people who are on Reddit.
Yeah, the casual people.
I'm a little more serious about it.
I'm on,
Billiard Shark.
The billiard on Zenforo.
The billiard on Zenforo.
So are you going to be only talking billiards?
This is not like we're talking is or billiards is all of it.
Billiards is all of it.
I just didn't calling it pool.
I could call it pool guys.
But then it's confusing.
But Billiards is Billiards a different game.
I'll just call it.
I think billion.
I think billion.
They say it is, but people call pool billiards.
I don't think it's that confusing to the layman.
I think if it's somebody who's part of that world, it might be confusing.
But I think they just call it all billiards.
Colloquially.
I worked at an English pub for eight years and I feel like English people annoyingly want to call it one or the other.
I don't even remember which after eight years, but I feel like they draw the distinction.
I think it's that billiards has four.
pockets. No, it's saying played on a large pocketless table, usually 10 feet long.
Okay. We're talking pool, guys. I'll change the name of the room right now. But that's confusing. That's
confusing because people may think we're talking about guys with a pool. Well, we might talk about
pool guys next week. You might do the classic pool guys, pool guys. I might do the pool by pool guys.
It would clear up the confusion. No, it would make it more confusing. It would look like we're doing the same
episode two weeks in a row. It would look like we're doing it.
Don't even put a different.
There's just do pool guys.
And then the next one be pool guys as well.
And it'll mess people up.
They'll be like, oh, no, did they re?
Because I don't know if you know this, Josh, but we're known to make a upload error from time to time.
A mistake of sort.
I immediately rescind what I said.
It is way more confusing.
Yeah.
But Brian.
It's also, but two guys, tool guys worked.
Yeah, tool guys, tool guys.
And then what was it?
What was that?
That was the four week running.
That was two guys, tool guy, smart guy, fart guy.
Yeah.
That was your, that was your favorite run.
I got a pillow of it back here.
Yeah, somebody made a pillow.
Smart guys, tool guys, tool guys is what it says on it.
It's beautiful.
That's my masterpiece.
But yeah, this is pool.
We're talking about pool.
I found this forum.
I don't know why it's so active.
Like I said, it's a Zenforo is like the name of the forum.
And it seems to be a sub forum of Zenforo.
These guys are way funnier than I thought they were going to be.
And I'm going to explain.
I want to start first because people are like, what do they think?
We're assuming as we sit down, these guys love pool sharks.
They think it's the coolest thing in the world, the gamble.
They do not.
That is false.
They think they make pool look bad.
Well, that kind of makes sense a little bit, right?
That it's like they want to be more.
That turns people off of pool to think like, oh, I might go.
But then it's an easy way to not get sharked.
It's just not bed on pool.
I know.
You can avoid the whole situation so easily.
I could maybe understand the thinking because, you know, the UFC and pro wrestling both sort of want to run to regulation and run to cleanliness at one point in time to sort of be accepted by the mainstream.
Is that where these guys are coming from, Brian?
Do they want like a more sanitized billiards that could break through?
Yeah.
Do they want it to be accepted by the mainstream though?
Okay.
They do.
Okay.
Okay.
That's a difference.
Some guys groups that we cover.
them don't want it to be mainstream at all.
And then sometimes they do want it.
There's a lot of discussion.
A lot of times they're like, why don't more kids play pool?
And it's like, because it happens in bars.
Like everywhere that you play pool and listen, I hung out in a pool hall growing up.
My daughter goes to a pool hall now.
Yeah.
It's not a savory place to hang out.
No, it's famously like a like a smoky kind of, yeah, unsavory kind of place.
like it's used as a setting in a movie for somewhere that's like unsavory or whatever.
There is one, I think it's still there, guys and dolls.
There's like an old pool hall that might still be there or maybe just a sign is there in
Mount Pleasant.
But when I used to live there in that area, I went a couple of times.
And there'll sometimes be, I think there's one in like bowling alley in Commodore
lanes downtown.
That's exactly right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I think sometimes.
Does anybody play?
at those places though.
Yeah.
That's the real question.
They do.
They do.
They do.
Yeah.
Because at the bar, it feels like everybody's plant, like the pool tables in use at most bars that
have one or two pool tables.
People are using the pool tables at the bar.
But I feel like at a bowling alley, a hundred percent of the people would prefer to be bowling.
No, but that that's because if you're, if you want to play pool, you go there to play pool, right?
Like I think it's like at a pool hall.
You're going there specifically to play pool, but you can also drink, I think, at those
places too. This guy Cleveland
rocks on this message board
is very long-winded and weird.
And could have done a whole episode on him
actually. Okay. And here's
what he says. Two fundamentals
of pool to avoid sounding foolish
for years.
This is a guy that has epiphanies on the
board. Like in the middle of his own
post? No, no, no. Just he
posts epiphanies a lot. I see. You know what I mean?
Where it's like, you know,
I was driving home and I was thinking about pool.
Has a big idea.
Let me get on Zenfaro.
I got to get this to the fellas.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He goes, I've recently arrived at a conclusion of pool, a truth.
And I invite you anyone to try to refute me.
Okay.
I will try.
I will try.
I'll do my best to refute them.
You beginners, listen to me.
And you will sound a lot smarter for years whenever you're playing pool, around pool,
or talking about pool.
Why do you want to sound smart about I guess just in general, though, you just kind of want to sound knowledgeable.
But I don't think a lot of people who are playing casually care about sounding smart about it.
They care about having a fun time with their friends or whatever.
You go to the pool hall.
You want to sound like a guy that knows all about pool.
But you don't want to get bullied by the cool guys.
Oh, that's a smokers and logger drinkers.
Like there's a bully archetype at these pool halls.
Yeah, you're right.
There's bruisers there.
That's a good point.
And I do think that it's like if you don't want to.
seem like a tour. It's the same sort of idea.
You won't get taken advantage of
if you sound smart at the pool.
And it's just like somebody's not going to say, what, this guy
doesn't even know how to break. He doesn't even know what the break means.
Well, you know what I mean?
That is, I think I would say you should know what the break is.
I don't know. I mean, I've never, if you never played, you don't know.
He goes, uh, there are two fundamentals of pool. The first one
really made me laugh. He goes, the first and most important,
is to have a mind that is capable of both playing pool and learning pool skills.
This is a beginner tip one.
And this is his epiphany.
That's part of his epiphany.
That's the first part of his epiphany.
You have to have a mind that can play pool.
Now, what is that?
A mind that has like coordination to play?
Well, no, you can play pool and at the same time you're doing it, learn about pool skills.
But that's everybody, I think, can do that.
I think when you're playing it, that you're kind of picking it up.
That's just known as picking it up as you go along.
How would you know without doing it?
You can't show up and be like, oh, by the way, I have a mind that could learn this and can do it.
That's what I think, I mean, listen, maybe some people better than others,
but I think most people's minds are like that where they can be doing a thing that they're doing for the first time
and also learning about it as they're doing it.
He thinks you go up to go and you like hit it and you're like,
I guess I'll never get it right.
And then you just say like,
I don't even know why that happened.
Or you stop the game to say,
can I just take two or three minutes here to just take this all in,
drinking in and figure out exactly what's going on here.
And then you can hit your next shot.
I'm going to go outside and smoke a cigarette
and walk back and forth down the street for a few minutes to figure out
what just happened when I missed the one ball.
Smoking a cigarette and then taking the little cigarette
and putting it between your fingers like a,
pool cute.
It's not actually the doing it I'm struggling with.
It's that I'm learning while also attempting.
Yeah, I can't.
Yeah, I can't do both.
Because you don't know the traits.
If you don't know the traits of such a mind, you should read some books or ask someone what kind of mind it takes to practice, learn, and compete in billiards.
So that's the number one fundamental of pool.
I think a human mind.
I think it just takes a human mind to do that.
Yeah.
That's the first.
fundamental and if you don't want to sound like an idiot at the pool hall if somebody says one of the
fundamentals of pool this is the first thing you say so this guy is like i think this is one of those
guys who's just like he thinks of himself as like he's like god everyone else isn't able to do this
but it's so easy for me i have this pool i have this super perfect pool brain where i can just
play the game and learn as i'm playing and it's like this is a struggle for most people he doesn't
realize that it's normal behavior.
You shouldn't even attempt it.
Yeah.
And the second fundamental that is less important than the first is to have a consistently
straight and quality stroke.
Well, I think that isn't that.
That is the most important.
That is the most important thing of pool, I think.
It just as someone who played a little bit when I was younger, I remember that is that
consistency and a smooth stroke where you're striking the ball where you want to strike it
with the cue.
I think that's the first fundamental of pool.
If I had...
Switch the order, if anything.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I think that is number one is to be able to hit the ball.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you don't know how important a straight stroke is, you should do some study or ask someone and figure it.
This guy wants you to read books, like a lot of them.
But if he's right and you don't have the mind, the consistent stroke won't help you, I think.
Yeah, that's true.
You'll be like, you're like hitting...
Yeah, you...
Because what'll happen is you'll be hitting all the balls into the pockets, but you'll have
no idea what's going on.
You should at least periodically do some work to keep your stroke straight.
If you're not both of the two fundamentals and you're talking about it and you're sitting
around and you're talking about English, diamond speed, diamond systems, jump shots, bank shots,
kick shots, mass aes or any up.
So this guy is now saying I know all the pool works.
And I just, I don't think there's, I mean, maybe there are, but I don't think that there's so
many people who are just like, all right, so first thing, first, I want to be learning to do a jump
shot and I want to be able, you know, like, I don't think that that's how it works really. Yeah. I mean,
that's the thing. I guess if you don't, if you have the mind that is able to play pool and learn
about pool, then you can learn what a kick shot is. You do it. And then a guy's like, that was a
kick shot. You're like, okay, from now on, I know that's a kick shot. Yeah. But if you're a, if you don't have it,
you're fucked.
You're just like, yeah, whatever.
And he goes, or any other billiard technique,
you're some degree of BSing the people that you're talking to.
Simple as that.
Your speech about such topics without the first two fundamentals is a joke.
So those are.
Okay, but I get a little bit what he's talking about.
It's like,
I understand he's saying if you,
if you're like so horrible,
you're not even able to just like hit a straight on shot and just like sink a ball.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Then if you start talking.
about the other stuff, everybody's going to be like, well, this nonsense.
This guy sucks.
You know, like this guy's horrible.
Yeah.
And obviously that probably does happen.
Yeah, where people are just like, yeah.
Because I've been in situations where somebody doesn't necessarily know what they're talking
about, but they want to express that they know what they want me to know.
They're trying to convince me that they know what they're talking about if it's something
that I understand.
I can't think of an example.
Yeah, no, I know what, but that is exactly where it's like, yeah, have you.
start talking about like, oh, you need a bit of English or we need to hit a little bit of
back, you know, we need to like a jump would probably be good or like a, you know, and then
all of a sudden you go and hit a shot and you just shank it completely. Then it's like, oh, this guy's
obviously just talking complete shit. Yeah, but that's funny when that happens. And it's probably,
it's such a small, like that's a specific personality type. Yeah. That is not like one out of
10 guys is one of those guys. Yeah. You know what I mean? First response. First, first response. First,
First response.
All righty then all hail the Oracle of Cleveland.
Is there a point here?
That's kind of tough,
but I can't say I fully disagree.
The first guy's starting onus does seem to be
the coolest thing you could ever be as a good pool player.
Like it seems like that's an accepted part of his writing.
And I appreciate this second person being like,
get off the mount, dude.
Yeah, that's the second guy here.
That is tough to hear when you come in with all that info.
And it's just like, all right, dip shit.
What's your fucking point?
Like, fuck stings, man.
That stings because he's like, what he's hoping for is a lot of people being like,
absolutely 100% agree, you know, like.
Have you considered writing a book?
Yeah.
Like that kind of attitude.
Hey, I'm actually, yeah, I'm actually a trust fund kid with unlimited money and resources.
I was wondering if you could come and teach me personally and I will pay you and pay for a house for
you to live where I am.
Yeah. Got any more of that?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hey, let's, yeah, like, let's, let's keep, yeah, just someone riffing on it, adding on to it when the first response is just like, what the fuck you're talking about, idiot?
This doesn't have any information that I care about.
The next guy goes, clubhouse bangers have just as much fun as intermediates, short stops and professions.
Pool and sex are two things a person doesn't have to be good at to enjoy.
Okay.
I get what they're saying.
It just is fun to go mess around and do it.
I mean, I would say one of them you usually get to come at the end.
Yeah, and also the coming part, like, you should probably be good at it.
You should probably...
You want to hear a good joke?
Because I'm great at sense.
You want to hear a good joke that I just thought of right now?
It's like a good misdirection joke.
Yeah, one of them, you get to come at the end of it.
And the other one, sex.
That's my pool joke.
Save it for the stage.
Yeah, save it for the, for my pool hall gig.
My pool hall gigs.
Just playing.
Yeah, I'm playing, yeah, corporate gigs at pool halls.
I wonder, I do wonder if Corn Fed Reds ever had a comedian or a, uh, uh, uh, because that's, that's one of the play.
I hung out at quarter flash game room.
Yeah, this guy loves to brag about this, his old hangouts.
One quarter for all games.
It was called quarter flash because it's only a quarter to play everything.
Yeah.
Mortal Kombat 3, quarter.
Killer Instinct 2, a quarter.
Pool, cruising USA, all just a quarter.
And you can smoke in there.
But then once you got a little old, once you got to be like 21,
you're going to get booze at corn fed reds.
And that was a pool hall.
So we'd go to corn feds.
And that place was without a doubt the sleazyest place.
Yeah.
Sometimes I'll watch like security camera footage of bar fights.
and stuff and a lot of them happen in pool halls.
Yeah.
Like a lot of the footage online.
Is it that overwhelmingly they're overrepresented in the security fight?
They are.
They are.
They are.
There's like a huge amount of them.
And they'll use the pool queue a lot.
That's like a famous move, right?
Right.
To hit someone with the pool queue or whatever.
What's so funny.
Because like you would be over there playing pool and a guy would go out into the parking lot,
break into several cars.
and then bring the stuff he stole in and sell it to people in the pool hall.
Yeah.
That was like a regular occurrence.
But those must have been some of the people's stuff.
They must have been in the ball.
Yes, they were.
They were.
There were some issues, of course.
And Brian, did you ever consider asking your friends to stop doing that?
There are also always, always guys selling jewelry in there.
Ah, yeah.
So much of it.
That was Brian's dream was to be.
of a guy who sells jewelry.
I wonder if that's connected in any way.
I don't think it's connected in any way at all.
Was the coolest guy in there, the jewel seller?
No, I wanted to work in a store that was nice and clean.
Yeah, yeah.
I didn't want to be a sleaze bag.
I wanted to be a guy that owns a jewelry store.
You wanted to have a very, a very clean, well-droomed ponytail.
You didn't want to be a sleaze ball at all.
You wanted to be in a nice jewelry store.
Living in a one-bedroom apartment.
Jerking off the phone sex.
Jerking out to phone sex.
You didn't want to be a sleaze ball.
But I know I didn't.
I wanted like the jewelry store job was like, oh, when you go work at the jewelry store,
you have to wear a suit.
You don't have to touch food.
You have to wear a suit.
It's not.
You have to wear a suit, but with a t-shirt underneath.
Like that's what I.
That's what I picture as a jewelry.
I think as a jeweler.
But yeah, this guy goes, some thoughts.
to just stay in your head.
Simple as that.
You believing you've had some sort of epiphany as a joke.
Yikes.
This guy's seen too many of this guy, the first guy's epiphanies.
He's like,
you'll have a second epiphany.
Josh,
I think you're right.
I don't think this is the first interaction that he's had with Cleveland Rocks.
I think this definitely reeks of somebody who's fucking tired of his bullshit.
He goes,
well,
I don't disagree with the main points of your post,
which is a really funny, like, he read this.
It was like, well, he is right about that.
Yeah.
He goes, I will suggest that your post is written in a way that seems rather provocative.
Like, you're asking for a fight or to be criticized more than engage in a meaningful dialogue.
These pool hall guys, they want to fight.
They just want to fight all of them.
It's not a great idea to walk into a pool hall full of seasons players and say,
I'm about to tell you all how it is.
And this board's probably a similar environment.
I see.
So this guy feels like he's hanging in like a,
really high level pool.
He's like, why are you telling us this?
You should go post this on Reddit or whatever.
Don't post like we're all fucking, you know,
we're all basically pro players around here.
The next guy goes,
this feels like proudly proclaiming to all
that you've discovered that water is wet.
Being able to learn and have a consistently straight stroke
or important,
that isn't kind of any kind of revelation to anyone
that has played pool for a while.
I mean, or anybody at all.
Like, that's not.
not a revelation.
Like, if you, you have to understand, yeah, you have to be able to, if you want to do
anything, not just pool.
If you want to learn to do anything well, you have to be able to learn it.
You have to be able to learn how to do it.
That is definitely true.
And I think anyone can figure out that you have to be able to hit the ball with the
cue in the way that you want to to play pool.
If you even know what pool is, you assume you need that as part of your game.
If you have ever heard of the concept of pool.
or seen it in any media or anything,
you understand that it's important
to be able to hit the ball with the cue proper.
No great people has ever not had that skill.
Yeah, yeah.
This guy goes, well, that information
is worth about 100 bucks less than I paid for it.
When does the quote stop sounding foolish part begin?
Who.
That's horrible.
How old is that guy?
I don't know.
That was a very, very, very old guy.
That's worth about 100 bucks less than I paid for it.
Yeah.
I've never heard it at my life.
that is such an old guy thing.
Yeah.
This guy goes, having been an Olympic time trials and having had coaches.
Wait, for what?
For pool?
I don't know.
He doesn't explain.
It's just Olympic time trials.
Olympic time trials, but is it timed pool?
Maybe I'm sounding ignorant here, but I didn't think there was timed pool.
Is it like chess where they, is there speed pool and stuff?
I don't think so.
Or is he just talking about in general he's done it for something else, like Olympic time trials?
And there are timed pool, but it's not.
like crazy times. It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on, we're trying to get out of here.
You know what I mean? This guy was like maybe a sprint or something like that or,
or yeah, okay. And having had coaches that have won gold in the Olympics and friends that were
in the Hall of Fame. These are not flexes. What the hell? This guy said, he's, he's a swimmer or a
runner or something like that. And he's saying that his coaches are the Olympics, he's got a,
he knows Hall of Famers. Yeah, he goes, he goes, life's not as simple as you described. The
land of hard knocks in time slash effort and losing and not liking it, not giving up are at the
core of greatness and anything one does. So this guy, not giving up. This guy's saying like,
that you need to fight through adversity if you want to be good at anything. We've gone full
circle. This is, this is self-evident. Like, no one needs a gold medal coach to be like,
well, you can't give up if you're going to succeed. It's like, I was in kindergarten. I know
this. Yeah. This guy goes, this guy says some thoughts should just stay in your head.
head. Simple as that. You believe it. So I read that one, right? You believe in that.
Cleveland Rocks does answer that. He goes, this post was to alert newer players about fundamentals of pool.
I think it's an honorable thing to do to try and help newer players use their time.
That's a great thing to say about something you say. I believe the thing I'm saying is actually quite an
honorable thing to do. You don't usually say that about your own stuff.
He then replies to the guy that says that information is worth about a hundred bucks less than I paid for it.
And he goes, when one speaks, there can be facts grounded in truth and there can also be foolishness, falsehood, etc.
I like being sincere and talking about facts.
I'm not one to be rabble-rousing or causing a stir with profanity or anything similar.
This post is for newer players who want to learn the game properly and use their time well.
So he's saying basically like, hey, man, I could have sworn a bunch in that and I did.
I could have said a bunch of swear words
And I didn't say any
So I don't get any credit for that
Being a completely filthy
Yeah
Like I'm doing clean posting here
When I could be going totally blue on this
I could talk about ramming the stick
And an ass
I mean I don't know if you notice
But the stick looks like a penis
And the balls look like testicles
And I didn't even mention that
And you put it in a hole
I'm just saying I didn't bring it up
In a hole
Hey I'm just saying guys
I didn't mention any of
that very obvious stuff and I could have, but I would have got big laughs.
Clever Rocks gets really mad because a guy does the thing where he puts the stick between his
legs and pretends like he's humping.
Oh, yeah.
Come on.
That's not honorable now.
We don't do that in this place.
We actually, yeah, I love guys who are like honorable stuff.
Yeah, I do too.
It's my favorite thing.
Clever Rocks also made another post recently.
I bet he did.
I bet he made a couple.
So the video for Bad to the Bone is,
George Thurgood hustling people.
Oh, that's why it's a pool song.
I just want you to know that.
He's a hustler in the video.
For newer players,
Bad to the Bone music video,
greater than the color of money?
I don't use social media.
I just ran across this video for the first time
post the George Thurgood video.
It goes, how better can be pool promoted
than this video?
Thank you, George Thuragood.
So what does Morphor pool?
The color of money or the bad to the bone video?
Note that Moscone's in the video,
the man in the gray suit for those of you who have not seen it.
So there's a professional pool player in the George Thorogood video.
Color of Money is just using Hollywood actors.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Very famous like pool, like funny video that's like I'll show you a little bit of it actually.
I think I had thought about it.
And I want you to see just a little bit because like when you see it, you'll understand that like.
And you guys aren't going to be able to see it when you're listening with this for us.
This is for us.
This is for Josh and I.
No, you'll be able to hear it.
And I know that you guys are like, well, we'd love to see it.
But can't Josh and I have something nice?
Just, you know, why not think of us?
You guys work hard.
You guys work really hard.
Here we go.
I don't work hard.
And they get to enjoy bad to the phone.
I mean, come on.
Yeah, they can listen to the song Bad to the Bone, which, by the way, actually, I don't think.
Yeah.
You don't like that?
No, I just don't know it.
I guess it doesn't really matter, right?
It's not going to go on YouTube.
It's not going to work well on YouTube.
It doesn't go on YouTube.
So it'll be fine in a podcast, right?
We're not going to get some claim.
Yeah, it might get struck on YouTube.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
It's fine.
I think if you talk over it enough, you won't get the strike either.
Oh, that's no problem for me.
So, yeah, this is like the coolest guy in the world.
It's George Thoregoode.
That's George Thoreau good.
I didn't know what he looked like.
I didn't know that's what he looked like either.
For some reason, I thought he had a leather jacket, black hair,
looked like Arthur Fonzorelli.
He does end up having, he does later in the video.
come walk here he is here he is here's where it really gets going all right so he's walking in with a pretty cool
looking jacket all the kids are talking like oh my god that's george thorough good do you know he looks
like that they're shooting george like he's 10 feet tall as he's walking down the street the kids are like
i thought he i thought he would have probably looked a little more badass honestly he doesn't
Yeah, George Sturgut does not, I mean, I think he looks badass, but these guys think he looks like a big tooth goof.
I think to the pool guys.
I don't think he looks cool.
Yeah, I don't think he looks cool.
Well, I just wanted you guys to see a little bit of that because the video is him hustling pool.
Yeah, and there's not a lot of like, we went away, and it wasn't, there still was no pool.
Like, really, there's not a lot of pool.
It's not like it's a lot of pool.
It certainly isn't the color of money.
It's not the color of money, right?
I mean, the color of money is awesome, too.
You know what I mean?
Like, the color of money, I love that movie.
Have you ever seen that, Chris?
Went out like a long time ago, but I don't really remember it.
That's another one.
Here's the pool.
Okay, here's them playing.
So he's doing the break now.
He's playing pool with BB King.
Okay.
And he's got his money down on the rack.
On the, yeah.
Is that what you do?
You put the money on the rack of balls?
No, I've never seen that.
I've never seen that.
That might be a third good.
You put it on the side of the table.
usually or you just like say that this is what we're playing for that's right oh the old guy walks
away but then you know obviously George Thurgood's going to be like yeah I'll take that bet
any day of the week there is a babe there's a babe Phil there's a break not a great break yeah not
great but what are you going to do and then yeah so the whole hustle happens George Thurgood ends up
winning whatever and it's a hustle which these guys don't love yeah
And so some of these comments I was surprised with.
First guy goes seriously.
The movie did light years more for pool than this video.
I loved George Thurgood and seen them live a few times.
Very cool.
So you're unbiased.
Yeah, he's saying, listen, I do love George Thurgood.
So I would be the first to say if I thought this did more for pool, but it doesn't.
And I think that's safe to say, right, that a whole movie about pool with, like, Hollywood.
It was like a famous movie.
like I didn't even know that the music video for this famous song was a pool hustling music video
but as soon as you say yeah I think they're saying like George Thurgood comes off looking so cool in
this video and again I would disagree I think he looks like a fucking looks like a nerd
he's wearing a weird weird jacket too yeah but but their argument Cleveland rocks will tell you
he goes I think this music video is competitive it's certainly more impact
than it, and this is a good point, you guys, it's certainly more impactful than any five-minute
segment of the color of money movie.
Well, hang on.
Why are the goalposts changing to just five minutes of the entire movie?
Because that's how long the song is.
That's how long the song is.
But you're right, but that's not how people watch it.
Yeah, that's what a movie is.
People watched the whole movie.
They went, especially then.
People, it wasn't even clips and stuff.
It was just people would go to the movie theater and watch the whole thing.
There's no denying that five minutes of a movie is going to have.
have a hard time competing with a music video that has a beginning, middle, and end.
I don't think anyone could contest that.
And the George Thurgood's in.
No doubt.
And he goes, uh, the fact that it shows the neighborhood kids interested in the game gives
it extra credence.
I find it hilarious and more entertaining than any five minute segment of the color of money.
So he's like the neighborhood kids are watching George Thurgood play pool.
That one shot of the two kids looking at him, he's saying is like a plus in terms of
advancing pool to the.
mainstream. Yeah, because if a kid sees, if a kid sees that, they're like, oh my God, you know,
I'm a kid. Wait a second. I'm a kid. Does that mean I like pool? It's funny to imagine like
this guy's mind is like some, some 10 year old kid sitting at home on a Sunday watching MTV and
Bad to the Bone video comes on. He sees it. He sees the other kids looking.
at George Thurgood and going to play pool and he's like, right, I got to be that guy.
If the kids played pool, I can kind of see that, right? It's like representation where you do
set to see yourself and you're like, that has maybe carries more weight or whatever. But I would
think that you'd have like the kids playing pool would be an impactful thing. Well, they're not even in
the pool. They're outside. They don't see George Thurgood playing pool. Yeah. They, yeah, and the stuff we
watch, they're just standing outside on the street getting excited. Like, do they even, in that context of
that. Do they even know he's a pool player?
They don't know he's going to play pool.
They don't, because he's carrying,
he doesn't have his stick out.
Yeah, I believe he keeps his stick and a guitar case.
Yeah, that's badass.
So they wouldn't even know.
That is cool.
Yeah, they think he's a guitar player, which they're right about.
He is.
His name is George Thorogood.
He's a famous guitar guy.
Which is way better than being a pool player, by the way.
Oh, yeah.
If you want to say he advanced rock and roll, I have no.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
I'm with you.
Yeah.
This is just a, me and Chris love celebrity stories, like people talking about
celebrity stuff. So this is just for that. He goes, George Thurgood and the destroyers were a last-minute
addition to the live aid lineup. After a high-energy performance featuring blues icon, Bo Diddley and
Albert Collins, Thurgood was approached backstage by Hollywood superstar Jack Nicholson, who had then
been serving as an on-stage host for the event. As Thuragood recalls, I went, Jack Nicholson,
you know who I am? He says, yeah, Georgie, I always follow the rough boys.
Georgie.
Georgie, I always follow the rough boys.
It sounds extremely.
It's a very strange comment to make to someone.
I don't know how.
I've never met Jack before.
So I don't know how he talks,
but yeah, Georgie,
I always follow the rough boys.
Cleveland Rock's first post was described as provocative.
This feels much more provocative.
Yeah, this feels,
that feels sexual in nature.
No question.
I've never seen the video before.
Any George Thorgood video, in fact, despite hearing some of his songs seemingly a million
time.
He looks quite different from how I pictured.
Yeah, me too.
I agree.
Or maybe I'm just old now, so he looks like it good.
The best part of that video was Willie.
He can give a convincing tough guy look for someone who's probably in his 80s at that
point, I believe him.
As for quote, promoting Poole, maybe in some nostalgic retro sense, but I think Poole needs
to shed its tough guy low-life image to gain mainstream traction.
only then with comfortable distance can it can it's rough and tumble past be celebrated i see you can
kind of look back on it and like oh it used to be kind of you know like you can look back fondly on
that but no one's gonna yeah kids are going to be afraid to play it which they should be honestly
well score replies and goes how does associating with pool with being bad good promotion
yeah it's literally called bad to the ball he's not
not understanding bad though.
Yeah,
bad to the boat is good.
We could.
Bad to the bone.
Yeah.
Maybe if the song was called good to the core.
Yeah.
A guy that does not understand bad is so good.
And then finally he does come back and say shady pool room and gambling, not good.
The song's rate.
So there's that.
Here's a question somebody asked for some reason.
It's very strange.
Do you think professional pool players should be paid in crypto?
or cash.
I'd say cap.
Okay,
your Josh is taking crypto.
I'm going to say cash.
I'm going to say cash.
I'm on team crypto here.
I think pool players should be paid paid
exclusively in cryptocurrency.
Yeah.
Well,
I mean,
a lot of people are like,
I'd prefer a check.
And I'm like,
I don't even know if I'd want that.
Maybe like an email money transfer or whatever.
Like I don't know.
Sometimes you work at a job, right?
And you give them your banking information.
They do direct deposit.
That's fine.
closet type situation, but yeah, check seems most reasonable.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
This guy goes, I think they should be paid in jelly beans.
Is some tournament trying to pay them in crypto?
Are we just discussing your stream of consciousness?
Yeah, I mean, that's honestly an important question here.
Are you posting this for any reason or is this just a dumb question you thought up in your
stupid brain?
Here's his reason he came up with the question.
He does explain himself.
Would it be an acceptable form of payment for pro players?
One reason a promoter could say is safety.
S safer for the players.
Less chance of being robbed.
Less chance of players going bust at the casino.
That's what I was thinking.
You were thinking about them getting robbed potentially and or taking the money over to the casino.
So I'm just, I guess I'm confused.
How would they spend the money?
They have to convert it at some point.
And then at that point they could potentially get robbed when they're converting it when they, when they, I'm.
The thing is, Chris, that's different.
And crypto is also insanely, I wouldn't say dangerous as in like you'll get shot for it.
But I mean, it's not the most secure.
Yeah, someone's going to steal it probably.
I think about, you know, I used to tread the boards, Josh.
I don't know if you know that I used to tread the boards.
No, I didn't.
Stand up comedy.
I used to do standup comedy.
You actually made me laugh at a standup set one of the hardest times in my life.
If I can have 30 seconds here.
Oh, wow.
horrible open mic at 12 Kings Pub and the I was drinking a lot back then and it was a depressing scene on a Sunday open mic and you walked up to the mic and I don't want to root I don't I don't if I'm messing up exactly what it was please correct me but you were in character and you did something to the effect to this horrible room of I like to tell people I'm 52 years young and it said I was sitting at the bar and I was like this is
unbelievably funny. I used to do
Wolf Thomas. That was a Wolf Thomas.
Wolf Thomas W-O-L-V-E who had stopped
doing stand-up for 15 years and was like
doing stand-up from like the 80s, 90s and didn't
understand the modern stand-up or whatever.
I used to live right by 12 kids. That was, listen,
that was a, the worst show that you could
ever do was a 12 Kings pub. It was horrible.
But I was going to say that I
I did.
I maybe have mentioned more
there were comedians
who you'd do gigs at the casino.
Like it would be a casino gig
and then you'd have these guys
real bad gambling addicts
and they would lose all the money that they got.
Get paid in cash.
Get paid in cash and then they would walk to the tables
and they would lose it all.
And they would literally say like before the gig started
they're like, well I'm doing this one for free.
And it's like, ooh.
You just can't gamble.
You just can't do it.
No one is winning this stuff.
Yeah, Brian, Brian and I have it.
Brian, Brian went to a casino together.
Brian lost.
Brian must have lost.
I want to say $85,000.
It took them about an hour and a half to lose $85,000.
I didn't lose a lot of money right away.
One of the craziest things I ever see.
But I came out of head.
It tells me they win and like, then I went back and kept winning.
It's not.
It never happens.
Well, Josh, you should see.
We actually did gambling guys, I believe.
and a lot of them will tell you about the times that they won,
and then they won't tell you about the times that they lost,
the 100 million times that they lost.
But yeah, I think that that, I guess if he's talking about that,
if it's like, hey, they're playing pool at a place where there's also gambling,
then paying them in cash isn't so good because then they could lose it all right then
and there.
But it's like a check or anything else.
It doesn't have to.
Why crypto?
Because he's a crypto guy.
He's a crypto guy.
You know what I mean?
So,
uh,
I learned this on Reddit.
I was,
I was actually really surprised by it.
This guy asked the question.
So I'm currently trying to get a nine ball APA team together.
I think American Pool Association together before the next session starts next week.
I need help with some team names.
They can be funny,
cool, badass.
Serious.
They can be funny,
cool,
badass if you want.
But prefer preferably badass.
That's what I want.
I love cool,
funny.
and badass, but two of the three is fine.
Not necessarily an adjective preference order.
The other one was serious, by the way.
Okay, so they can be like a serious name.
A serious name.
I understand like a serious name, like the pool snipers.
Like Ross and the Quinbies.
Well, yeah.
My name, my name when I did laser tag was the sniper.
That's hardcore.
We did shoot from far away?
No, I was, I wasn't that good or anything.
I just, I just had a serious name.
Everybody else, you know, like did.
joke name and then I did a serious name because I thought it was funny to be like
serious name the sniper unfortunately most of my laser tag name was quiver yeah of course
like let the people down yeah yeah but anyway he goes they can be so anyway he goes as long as
there's no cussing in there any and all suggestions will be great oh Cleveland Rocks any ideas
from Cleveland Rocks I know he he's pretty good with cuss free ideas the first reply the first
reply had one of the best pieces of information I've received.
He was, check out the list of banned names for inspiration.
Not banned.
Then change it up to avoid getting banned.
There is a list.
I have the link of band names in pool.
And it is long.
Wow.
I'm talking like one of no wrong hole.
This list shouldn't have to exist before we even read it.
This should not need the wrong.
hole so you're not allowed to do a sexual name. No wrong hole. So this this is because listen, man, I played slow pitch softball and it's like, you know, that's, this was the thing was making a sexual kind of name or whatever, but they don't like that in the pool game. Young whackers. Banned.
Young. Young lacquer. What's the tie in? I don't get that one. What is that too? They're just wagging off. Window lickers, wicked sticks, wicked ram rods. Okay, well, window.
I mean, that's, again, that's just like, that's offensive.
That's offensive.
That's just an offensive thing and it doesn't have anything to do with pool.
That's what I've, none of these.
Yeah, these aren't like clever pool names.
Like, so.
Yeah, why is one?
We peed in your pool.
Okay.
That's at least.
That one's related to pool.
But you're not allowed to have that one because I guess these must be ones that people have used and been banned then.
Because it's like if you're doing a list.
Then the list could be infinite, right?
And some of them are crazy.
It's like vibrating.
WWCD
What is that?
What would
What would somebody do?
Probably some famous pool player do.
I would do WWGD.
What would George do?
George do.
Yeah.
Vegas bound and gagged.
United Nations cartel.
Trump train.
Ooh.
Oh, this is a good one.
This is a good one.
I get it.
Tuna hunters.
Wait.
You like that?
This is the good one in Trump.
Tuna hunters?
Like,
like, why do you,
you know what they're saying?
Come on.
But what is it,
does it have to do with pool?
Nope.
Okay.
We got some real poon hounds.
Yeah,
when you said I get it,
you just mean,
just when you understand like fish
being related to potentially.
I feel like they're not doing the second part.
They're just doing vague innuendo.
But like Chris is saying in a softball league
or for me like a fantasy sports league,
they're supposed to be like a,
a tie-in to the thing you're involved in.
And it seems like the ones that are banned just didn't even bother with that.
They leapfrog at making sense at all.
Yeah, they're just horrible vulgar sometimes actually offensive.
But all is just that I'm not reading.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The angry goats, the three-legged monster.
Wait, wait, the angry goats?
Yeah.
Why is that banned?
That has to be an, look up the angry goat.
It's a sex move, for sure.
Because these are all, a lot of these.
are in like 2000.
I'm looking up the angry goat.
I've never heard of the angry goat before.
I'm calling it angry goat is allowed.
I think that one should be struck from the list and allowed back into team usage ship.
I mean, a lot of them really, a lot of them really aren't bad.
Like sticks and racks.
Yeah, come on.
I mean, you can't use rack.
You can't use rack.
They're not letting you use racks.
I'm in urban, I'm on urban dictionary.com here looking up angry goat.
A class, a classification of girls that do.
not like anal sex.
Okay.
That's weird.
It's cool they have a name for that.
Yeah,
it is really offensive.
When you read deeper into it,
it really is offensive.
The explanation,
I'm not going to say it
because it's really quite offensive and gross.
Okay,
back on the band list.
I take back my,
this one of the right on back.
You tried to get it by the committee
thinking,
oh,
they'll never know the angry go.
It's little,
little did you know.
These people know,
Every sex food.
Every sex reference.
It's so fucking funny that these guys are trying this, though.
This guy, one of them is just Richard Craniums.
Dick Cranes.
Dick Cheads.
Dickheads.
Dickheads.
I get Richard Cranium.
So that's my least favorite kind of guy.
It seems like Rack is basically just completely banned.
But to be Rack is at least attached to Poole.
Like this is at least swinging the stick in the right direction.
But I guess maybe.
we're maybe not like thinking of the context of it of like the guy who's like submitting the name.
They just take a look at him, you know?
And he's just like this real nasty looking freak.
And it's just like we know what he's thinking here.
Yeah.
I didn't think about that.
You're right.
You don't want a team called like the pink tacos too.
Yeah.
Come and come on.
That's just you might as well just call yourself the pussy's.
Yeah.
The first one was bad enough.
Which I love Magas banded.
So yeah, there's a bunch of.
of them. I'll put the link in the thing so you can scroll through them. I really like,
okay, two in a row. Dem Tidys, T-I-D-Y-A-A-A-A-Postrofyes, which I think is there because the next one is
Dem Titties. Oh, they tried to. They tried to. Whoops. If you're like, no, you're not naming your team
Dem Titties. And he's like,
Okay. I'm going to go back to my table. I'll be right now.
Scribbled all over the blackboard for two hours. I've got it.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like doing the theory of relativity. So anyway, I thought it was so funny that there was a list of band names that I just wanted to read to that list. Here's a here's here's the question that gets asked quite a bit. This is the main question in the world of pool.
What if you folks thinks is the biggest problem in pool today?
Would it be equipment costs?
Lack of media and TV exposure?
Not enough money.
A lack of a widespread and commonly accepted rule set like the WBA BCA rules or something else.
I think it's the fact that there isn't one widely accepted rule set coupled with the fact that people aren't as keen at improving.
I'm all for enjoying the game, but it's hard to do when you play the same people frequently and either always win or
always lose. Couple that with having to change the rules you're playing by depending on which
establishment you're in. And you'll find that people sometimes lose interest really quick. That's
how it is with a lot of things, though, not just with pool. Now, I want to start this, this part by
saying, like, these guys, nobody wants to play pool with these guys because they're good. I love
playing pool with like katie we go to the bar we we put a quarter in in a machine we play a game of
pool it's fun we play a game of nine but we used to play nine ball because you play nine i used to play
eight ball i was a fan of eight ball head yeah yeah uh first guy goes people that take two minutes for
every shot yeah they need a shot clock on their like baseball style like the pitch clock they got
to think about getting something like that but i guess these they're talking about bar games right
because there is an established set of rules for professional pool, obviously.
But what they're saying is, which is true, right?
It's like, it's house rules.
Like, you know, I got to set the own.
That was one of the beauty things I had in my table at home is that I got to set those
rules about like placement anywhere on a scratch, you know, like versus placement on the line.
Oh, we would never do ball in hand anywhere.
Ball in hand, yeah.
Why?
What would you do?
We loved it.
But behind the line.
We played nine ball like nine.
Oh, yeah. Yeah, okay. But yeah, for eight ball, yeah, we would do ball and hand.
The pros play nine ball? They mostly play nine ball, yeah.
I think they also play eight ball, but you're right. I think that nine ball is the more popular.
It's more fun. It's more difficult, I think. I don't think it's more different. Well,
yeah, it is, I think, right? Because you have to go in order. So then you have to make a shot on the, on the one ball.
Whereas when you're playing eight ball, your solids or stripes, you have like multiple shot options.
So it's definitely harder to play nine ball, I think.
But there's no, you don't have to call it.
I think that's the thing that most,
I think that's the thing that keeps a lot of people from playing pool.
Because when I played at quarter flash,
you had to call all your shots.
It wasn't like just call the eight ball.
Unless it's obvious, I think.
Oh, there's actually a guy later on here that is,
there's a big fight about that.
Like a big, if it's, because here, I'll read it to you.
because it is like I had a fight with my team captain is the thing,
which I imagine happens all the fucking time.
Yeah, Team pool.
I'm thinking I didn't even know that that.
Yeah, that's a big thing because like people go on like a Thursday.
Because here, I'll go back to that after I finish what we were just reading because they do talk.
The first guy goes, people need to learn.
Everyone doesn't know exactly what to do in 10 seconds.
If you don't have the patience to stand there and let them figure it out, play someone else.
There are even pros who take more time than others.
I know I hear a lot of comments about players taking too long to shoot.
Generally, I think people need to loosen up and let people be themselves.
We have enough rules in society to live by every day.
Pool hall is a great place to leave all that behind and relax.
And to the next guy, this is a problem.
This is where we learn one of the major problems of pool.
I'm fine with players taking a couple minutes for a shot.
just not every shot even a couple minutes on a time out if it's a tricky shot but when league goes
to 12 a.m and I have to be at work at 7 a.m. I lose my patience. So yeah that's fair. Yeah.
Because pool can take forever. That's one thing about pool that is different than a lot of other sports
or whatever like a pool game can take and like a cricket amount of time. I'm kidding about that
and you know that's a game i know that takes a long time you know what kind of yeah depends
no i know so much about cricket so so i will say the only time i ever i i would take i would play
really fast usually like but the one some like if i was playing for money against my friends like
we didn't play for a lot or whatever sometimes i would take a long time just to like annoyed the other
guy who would then get off of his game and get all flustered and frustrated and play much worse
Yeah.
Well, this guy has a good point, Chris.
I don't like driving home after 10 p.m.
Because I usually have a couple of beers.
It makes for an easy target for the cops.
They assume you're either coming or going to work or you've been to a bar.
I see.
So this guy is drinking and driving.
He doesn't want to get another fucking DUI because he doesn't want to have to ride his bicycle to work.
And he's just like, so yeah, some of us are actually out there extremely intoxicated trying to drive home.
Have you considered our point of view?
this. He's lost at C. If he doesn't want to get caught drinking and driving, the extra two hours
are helping him. He's so, if he's only having X amount of beer. Josh, can I tell you something?
Yeah, please. He's lying about how much he's drinking. I think he's had two beers one time. And he goes
in with the attention. I took him at his word. Yeah, he can't take him in his word. I think he's drinking
so much. And then he, so he's just trying to find that window of driving where he, in his experience,
he's been pulled over less times for during his. 10 p.m. is the built-in.
governor like he will stop drink he will drink as long as he's there yes he will continue to drink i
believe until right at the end of him late when he's leaving and he's just hoping to knock it pulled over
by the police and he's found that when he goes after 10 he gets pulled over more often and gets more
DUI to hear you explain it chris and of course you guys are experts here i really do see the guy kind
gives away the goose and the way he presents the information yeah yeah it is the classic drinking
got number one who knows what these two beers are anyway like that i've always i always talk about
my grandma my dear sweet grandma who would be like i have one drink a night and it was like a half a
bottle of kessler's irish whiskey with like the teeniest tiniest tiniest amount of seven up in it yeah this
guy's he's drinking two pictures of beer and he's drinking them just like holding them and drinking
them straight out of that and he's like this is my beer and again i think it's a case of
I'm only going to have two beers tonight.
Like I play pool.
I'm playing pool.
I don't want to get off drunk.
I'll have two beers.
I'll go home.
And also, if you're having two beers,
you should blow under the legal limit and you should be okay to drive.
If you're a regular drinker and you just drink two beers.
You should blow under.
Over time, I think for sure.
And he does.
I love the line.
They either,
they assume you're either coming or going to work or you've been to a bar.
Brother, you've been to a bar.
Yeah, they're assuming correctly.
They don't assume you're going.
coming to work at midnight. That's not. And they, they got you. They got you. You did go to a bar.
Yeah. And I love that. I was like, oh, people are probably going to be like, hey, man, you know, I think you're drunk driving.
You might have a problem. But no, the first guy goes, I agree with that one. It's hard to stay.
I agree with, I listen, I also have a pretty severe drinking problem that I don't like to call a cat.
and I have to tend to agree with you on that one.
That was the only reply to that is a guy saying,
I don't even have,
I get it, man.
They gotta let us drunk drive home.
I gotta let these guys know,
they're drawing dead, okay?
I did jiu-jitsu, Brazilian jiu-jitsu for most of my adult life,
and there's like been a million hairbrain schemes to be like,
oh, how do we get this more popular?
How do we get people to watch it?
Some things are just more fun to do than to watch.
Like,
around them.
There's going to be very little
celebrity breakout or buzzworthiness.
And I feel like pools within that.
Like these guys are discussing changes
that might make the people who are already there
enjoy it more or less and not discussing
anything that might get new people to play pool.
They're so lost.
Who even knows?
I think somebody posted,
I couldn't find proof of it.
So I didn't use it.
That Top Golf is putting together some kind of pool based.
I just had an idea based on what Josh said.
Okay.
Because I know what they did in BJ
Jay was they went like they did start doing no gey that was like a big thing um the no
geese stuff and what if they did the no stick pool where you hit it with your finger or you can
bring anything but a cue yeah you're investing you've you've got something here take no stick pool
sounds pretty fucking cool and also it's also it's also more of a working class kind of game because
pool cues good ones are pretty expensive who could afford to stick? Yeah I think I'm
I think that as far as pool cues goes, because I'm sure people want to hear about that.
I think as far as I can tell, most of these guys are like these really expensive ones are a rip-off.
Just get a cheap one that works.
I used to have, I think my pool, I had one, you know.
Like George Thurgood.
Yeah, my brother and I both had one.
You're very third good.
We had like a screw on one, you know, with a case and everything like that.
And I think, you know, even it was a long time ago, right?
it would have been whatever like over 20 25 years ago or whatever did you ever take it to a bar
no never yeah that's like i don't care you can't listen i know it it looks listen when i'm watching
a movie guy goes to a bar he pulls out his little thing he screws it together he plays pool i'm like
that guy's pretty fucking cool yeah but it's just not something you can pull the guy is cool though
which is doing the carrying yeah the guy is a starting cool from cool he's like fucking he's like
Brad Pitt or something, not 16 year old me, fucking little noodle arms coming in there,
fucking hell stoned and shit, being like, you know, just bust this out, fellas.
I used to get so fucking.
It beats the shit out of me before I can even screw it.
At quarter flash, they had like a thing screwed to the table that went one through 10.
Mm-hmm.
And you put your quarter up in there.
So it's, you know, sometimes you might not even know who you're playing if you win because they'll put their quarter up and they'll go away.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like I used to be like, anytime I won and then a guy showed up to play his game and he had his own pool stick.
I just wanted to like say, brother, let's let's just not do this.
It's like when you do stand up, listen, I didn't do a lot of stand up.
But it's like when you do stand up.
show up to the bar and there's four people there and you're like, come on, man.
I don't need to do this.
Yeah.
You know?
Yeah.
I thought you were going to say the guy somebody shows up to the open mic with their own
microphone.
I mean, people do that, but it's not because they're like bad ass because they're like germaphobes
and the microphones are so disgusting.
So I've definitely seen people do that where they bring their own microphone because they're like,
I don't want to fucking like these are literally the most disgusting human beings on the planet.
and they're fucking breathing and spitting into this microphone.
I don't want to use it out.
Yeah, when I did that show in Vegas, I always bring it up.
But when I did that show in Vegas, it was eight paid.
There are literally eight people there.
That's all the paid.
And you know what?
Sometimes those are the best shows that you ever do.
That was not the best show.
There were two guys talking loudly about wrestling next to the stage.
Sorry about that.
You could hear them over me.
I find personally, I used to do some of those gigs.
There'd be six, seven people there.
They'd turn out to be the best.
fucking gig to the whole,
the whole tour, man.
And we did do it.
We did do the gig.
Yeah,
you had to.
We did a full on set.
They're counting on you.
The audience is there.
No,
I think the venue told them that you have to do it.
Yeah,
yeah.
Right before we're going to go on stage,
which is a fucking absurd thing to say in front of eight.
Oh,
I'm going to go on stage in front of eight people,
two of them that are just,
because I was there for double or nothing.
It was the first double or nothing.
That was the first time I went to Vegas.
Does that mean something?
to you, Josh?
What does double or nothing mean?
One of the most famous wrestling shows now of all times.
The first official AEW pay-per-view?
Is that right?
Yes.
Oh, I see.
That's why I don't know about it.
Chris only likes.
I'm a territory.
I'm a territory guy.
I'm a territory guy.
I used to like the old territory show.
I heard you and Mitch discussing that last week.
Very proud.
Yeah, I'm a territory guy.
Yeah, Chris likes headlock.
I mean, he's really into headlock.
I'm really in the crowd.
Chris is at home going feed me.
more baby for me for me the high spot of a pay-per-view should be a scoop slam amen yeah guys an old
what can you say like the old shit it used to be better yeah yeah and and so the thing about it was like
i get on stage first of all i disagreed with everything those guys were saying about wrestling and
that was bothering me i was so tuned into their conversation like oh the wrestlers should have
their hands out of their pockets while they're wrestling
What the hell?
What are you talking about?
They were just having bad opinions.
Brian's so bad grabs the bike and screaming.
It's good when he puts his hands in his pocket.
Yeah, that's a funny thing he does.
It's a fine game.
It's still funny.
It's still funny even though he's done it a thousand times.
It gets funnier.
It's like if you didn't see those family guy gags, you know.
But yeah, it was like, I just remember getting there and being like, you know, let's just,
can we just sit down at a table and have a conversation?
And that's what you wanted to do to the pool guy who had the thing.
Can we just like talk about pool maybe instead of playing the game?
I had a fight with my team captain.
My team was competing in the APA eight ball tri cup.
Okay.
My opponent ran a handful of balls and ended up straight on the eight.
As many of you know, APA has a requirement to mark your pocket.
My opponent didn't mark it and made the obvious shot.
I know my opponent made the shot he intended to and I chose not to take the wanner.
on a technicality. I love that line.
First of all. That's, you know what, man.
Bless you. Bless you for being such a, hey, dare I say, an honorable player.
I mean, that is true honor right there. He easily could have taken that win. I like that he's
telling you. Yeah. I chose like, yeah, what, the thing that every normal person should and would
do, he's just like, no, I actually chose to be the bigger man there and not take the win that I could have.
That's important for us to keep in mind. This is like happening at bars. This is like,
a loose thing. This guy is trying to like call us down from the high road. Well, this guy is not. This one sounds like, I mean, if this is an APA event, although we don't know what that means, it could be like a regional, a regional thing here where it is. Yeah, where it is. I mean, it's in a bar, I'm sure. It's in some. Yeah, I think it's in a pool hall and I think it is officially a sanction event that probably feeds into like the big pro events. I, I mean, to me a pool hall is a bar. Yes. But I guess. Most,
It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's why I think would be.
Do they ever not serve booze at a pool hall?
Quarter Flash game room did not serve booze.
Now, everybody in there was drunken high on everything because they'd go stand behind the,
there was a creek and we'd go sit by the creek and get all drunk and then go in.
You know what I mean?
That sounds like a great day.
Listen, they weren't great days.
I was very broke and always very hungry.
And a guy with white jeans once made fun of me for my jeans being baggy.
Yeah.
guy has white tight jeans just josh i've talked about before he's the guy i i listen he had money and it
used to drive us up yeah he obviously you didn't have to tell me he had money he had white jeans i mean
the guy wasn't walking around with white jeans if they don't got some cash well he had cash because he
anytime he went out at the end of the day he came home and took all of his one dollar bills and
put him in a coffee can and this guy
Hey, where were the $1 bills coming?
How do you get some of my $1 bills?
Just at the end of the day, if he spent money and stuff like that, and like, you know, you got a 20, you got a 10 years.
This guy, he had, he was the only person in Groveport with a savings plan.
He just hit $1 in a tie, right?
You got by that much influence out of the coffee can.
It adds up, though.
Every day you're doing it.
It's like a change jar, basically.
And we would get so mad at him because we'd be like, hey, get some fucking weed.
And I'd be like, well, I got $4.
And, you know, Aaron always had like $20 or whatever.
He always had a little more than me, obviously, which is, that's because he's rich kid, not cool.
Well, no, it's, yeah, and it's also because he command, people would kind of come by Don Aaron, you know.
That's not what they said.
They called me Don Aaron.
Could I please bless you with some of this money just for all you do for the community, Don Aaron.
They said Don Brian.
What they would say is Don Brian, you don't even need that $4.
to hold on to it.
Yeah.
And we understand you could be rich if you wanted to, but you're not because you're a man of great honor.
You're a man of the people.
Who gets last laugh now, though?
I mean, you baggy pants are cool.
And tight, right pants suck.
Oh, I'm alive.
Aaron passed away, rest and peace, Don, Aaron.
So Brian did get the last laugh.
I stand not corrected.
Yeah, Brian.
You stand not corrected.
But you're, yeah.
the white gene guy is a different guy
that's not air. But we used to get so mad
at him because we'd be like
we need $25
and this motherfucker had $25.
He had like hundreds of dollars.
You saw it. You could see it.
Yeah, he would bring it out when you would go
hang out at his house. We'd go hang out
at his house and at the end
he would conspicuously pull it out of the closet
put the money in the coffee can and put it back so you'd
see this wad of fucking money.
He was showing off the coffee can.
And he would never spend any.
And it made us so mad, man.
You guys never, because I know you guys were certainly into robbery.
Did you ever consider doing robbery on him?
Yeah.
Josh?
Yeah, we were an honorable group, man.
I don't think we were.
I mean, Jeremy would have probably robbed him because he was the guy that like stole my
Nintendo like three times.
But like, you guys didn't do a lot of stealing.
So you just beat those old people up for fun.
You didn't even take anything from them?
Number one.
maybe guys in their 30s got beat up a couple of times.
But you never robbed them.
You never ran their pockets or anything.
We were doing it for the...
Again, we stole car stereos at the time.
That's what I was thinking.
That was a big fun thing.
We would...
But from bad guys, not from anyone.
No, no, no, just from guys.
Really, I think about it all the time now.
Neighborhood cars.
You guys getting up, he goes to work.
Yeah.
And he gets up and we've got his Rockford Fosgate CD player.
We stole ripped it out of the car.
Brian's well yeah he used to do it oh you know my yeah want me to edit that out yeah that might be good but
you're not going to it's send me that if you send me the time stamp all I did it out 1 10 let me get that
just send it to me send it to me email it to me with the when you send me your audio for this episode
that's the Brian that I was mean to that one that I've told the story about like I would go to his
house and he would be like you can't come in here there's too many people here oh yeah that's right
and then you got him back I got them back as I got older my
house was the place to hang out at.
And you wouldn't let him come.
And I was like, ah, sorry.
And I was like, there's no people here.
You know what I mean?
So there's too many people here.
He can't come in.
He left.
Felt probably pretty bad about himself and made me feel good about myself.
I know my opponent made the shot he intended.
And I chose not to take it and win on a technicality.
My captain said he didn't mark the pocket.
That's a win.
I said, he beat me fair.
I'm not taking it.
My captain argued it wasn't my choice.
and that because it affects the whole team.
But it didn't feel like good sportsmanship to me.
I gave them the win against my captain's wishes.
After the remaining matches finished,
we ended up losing by a tiebreaker.
If I had taken that game, we would have advanced.
I stand by my decision,
but I'm curious what other's opinions are.
Did I hurt my team?
Would you have done the same?
Did I have a right to have my opponent win?
I'm curious about other people's opinion on this as well.
Is there responses?
Yes, there are a lot of responses.
Okay, so I'm interested in how other people.
I think he did the right thing because, like you said, you know, I guess it depends on how important it is that you win.
But like people really respect fair play.
It's known as fair play, you know?
So it's like there's plenty of things.
You can watch compilations of like sports fair play moments.
And, you know, these are what people respect where it's just like, hey, technically, yes, I could win here.
There's a famous one where the guy, it wasn't a penalty, and they called a penalty on the guy,
and then he told the ref it wasn't a penalty, you know?
And then there's like another one where they kick it off the end.
Like it was like he dove almost expecting to get contact and then didn't.
And then they gave him the penalty and then he just passed it off the end.
Like he didn't try to score or whatever.
And people respect those moments a lot.
Not me. You're a win at any cost kind of guy.
Yes.
I love winning.
Winning is like the best.
See, I think he did the right thing, but the post is making him lose one credit point with it every sentence for me.
Like the searching for a pat on the back every sentence about it is coming across as less noble as he's sort of positioning the situation.
That's a good point.
You think he's not really asking for a people's opinion.
He just wants people to know that he did this honorable thing and he wants a bunch of people to reply and say, hey, man, I look up to you for doing that.
That's fantastic.
the win. The post is the win.
This is just a tharsis from the situation.
I feel that. Well, this guy goes,
I'm an SL 7. Don't know what that is.
Guy have to look that up.
Super loser. I think super loser.
Seventh degree super loser.
I consider myself honorable.
I consider myself honorable.
I consider myself honorable.
What a nobility and honor.
Yeah.
I wasn't expecting so much discussion of honor.
And I wasn't either.
And when I saw it happen all the,
time I was like the only honor the only thing that we've had an episode where there's more honor
is karate guy like karate guys love honor that makes sense and there was a manners guy there was a
manners guy who said don't talk about having honor at remember what I'm talking about yeah yeah he goes
other people refer to me as the most honest person in pool okay okay I smelt it no this is a different guy
though, right? This is a completely different guy.
Oh my God. No, this is a guy responding
to that. So this is
this guy who's one-uping him.
This is his credibility play
to let the initial poster know
he can be trusted in the soul.
You let somebody have the game in an
honorable way.
People tell me I'm the most honorable
guy. Settled down. Yeah, they're
like now having an honor off
in the comment.
I would have had the inclination to do
the same thing and give the other person the game
But this is a team sport.
There are rules for this exact situation.
Ultimately, I would put it back on your opponent and their captain to do the honorable thing.
And abide by the rules and take it as a tough lesson.
Boom!
Put the honor in their court.
Say to them like, hey, man, I'm willing to give you, because I'm known as the most honest guy in Poole.
I don't know if you saw my name tag, but it says it right on there.
And I, but I would like you to talk to your captain and you decide how much honor you want to show
this situation.
You'll never be me, let's face it, but you can still strive for something.
This is good stuff.
How do you think he got that title?
Like, what was he admitting that seemed sort of beyond the pale levels of honesty?
Yeah.
I think he probably, they're just like, oh, this, like, like, I'm sure there are cheaters in
pool.
You know what I mean?
There were at quarter flash.
There would be guys that you had to watch or they go around and I'll push a ball in a hole
when you're not looking.
I, I feel like maybe he.
he just plays pool normally, but then he'll be sitting there and he'll just say like,
hey man, I feel really sad a lot of the time.
And I'm like really down on myself and I don't have a lot of self-confidence and I doubt myself a lot.
And they're like, wow, this guy's the most honest guy in pool.
That could be that, right?
He's like, I'm such a pathetic loser.
Yeah, he's like, I just tell everybody, well, yeah, like that's what he means.
I love.
Yeah, that could be.
Ultimately, oh, he goes, but I do love pushing the honorable.
back. It's like if he was honorable, he would take the loss.
Guess what guys? He probably doesn't know that this happened.
Yeah, but then you just tell him. You just say, hey, these are the rules by the way.
That's not honorable. Well, I think it's perfectly honorable to just tell them the rules and let him
make the honorable decision there and it's up to him. But say, hey, listen, if you want to win,
I'm going to step away from this situation. I'm willing to let you take this win because of my honor.
but now that you know these rules,
is your honor kicking in at all?
Are you going to sleep?
Is his favor to turn it into an honor off in that?
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
That's how he wins.
Calls like three guys over the table.
Tell him how honor will I am.
Have I ever?
Imagine that.
You get to,
you get the win,
but you still don't lose your honor.
I mean,
that is the dream of everybody in that situation.
When Adel said we could have had it all,
that's what she meant.
Yep.
That is one of the,
this is one of the smartest replies
that I've ever seen.
I would have said,
I messed up,
didn't mark the pocket
and take the loss,
him letting you give the game
as evidence you did the wrong thing,
in my opinion.
So the next guy goes,
I disagree.
It would have been poor sportsmanship
and the wind would have been,
wouldn't have been proper.
Oh, no,
he goes, I disagree.
It would not have been poor sportsmanship
and the wind would have been proper.
A person not marking their pocket
and not calling the pocket
deserves to lose.
allowing them to win is not doing them any favors.
It's not.
They're just going to, yeah.
Well, it does let them win and go to the next level of whatever it is that they're qualifiers.
That's a huge favor if you're trying to win the tournament.
Yeah, if you're trying to win the tournament, you are doing them a favor and letting them win.
It seems like basically the biggest favor you could do them if you're just choose to be with it.
Yeah.
I guess I would say I am maybe more on the side of taking the win.
like just for and maybe that's maybe I'm a the sleaze bag or something like that maybe that's
the wrong choice but I think that like as some of these guys have said you're on a team
and you did win the game you know what I mean like you won you didn't you didn't lose the game
so like I just think you deserve the win I'm a noble and honest guy so I have to of course say
that you have to give up the, that you give the other guy the win there in keeping with my nobility and
honesty.
Chris went out.
Chris's internet went out again.
Well, I think.
Finally, this guy goes, my internet went out, by the way, and I, that's been a couple of times now when we've been recording, Brian.
Yeah, too.
It might be time for a little bit of a call from old.
Would you like me to fly out there?
Mr. Cheapy Refund might need to give a call to my internet service provider.
It might be time.
It's failing me at some important times.
It was going out in the middle of the night and stuff, and that's one thing.
But it's been happening a little bit more often here where they're not really giving me a connection that I need.
I'll jump on a flight and come out and fix it if you want me to.
Oh, that's what you thought I was, that's where you thought I was going.
That's what I thought you were going with like, can you fly out and fix my internet?
able guy from 1997, you were going to come out of.
2009, thank you.
Teless is cooked if Mr.
CR calls.
That's a capital P problem.
Oh, it's over.
Yeah.
Hey,
hey,
sell your telest stock.
They're about to go.
They're about to tank.
Finally,
this last guy goes,
firm handshake to you,
brother.
I can see both ways,
but I really respect your decision.
Good sportsmanship.
Now,
that's an honorable guy.
Firm handshake.
I don't know if you know,
but in the honor game,
a firm handshake, well, that's as good as a signed contract as far as I'm concerned.
I love their honor thing.
So the last thing we have here is a couple of pool hall reviews.
Some reviews of pool halls.
Soho bar and billiards.
Where's it?
What's it called?
Soho bar and billiards on Hamilton Street, Vancouver, B.C.
1, 283.
So I think this is the new one that's sort of like sterile.
And I don't have a better word for this, but sort of like minimal.
Um, brewery look, like sort of flat in all directions, not dive bar at all.
I'll look it up and make sure I'm thinking.
Hamilton is where, this is downtown.
This is properly downtown, right?
What's it called?
Soho.
Soho bar and billiards.
Oh, because Soho, there was like another place called that for sure.
Just this is called that.
Oh, no.
This place looks like a normal pool bar.
Yeah.
Yeah.
This guy gave it one star.
He's like, used to go there to have a drink on the terrace with my dog almost
every day for happy hour.
Today, a guy who claimed to be the head of security says it's illegal to have a dog on a terrace in Vancouver.
He wanted to remove my dog.
I left pissed.
I don't care of a business don't want dog on terrace.
But don't make fake laws to justify your dog hatred.
I will never go back as there is a nicer place in Vancouver who welcome you and your puppy with open arm.
Yeah, I don't think that is a law.
You can definitely have a dog.
There's like special patios for dogs.
This is a dog city.
It's a dog.
city it's very dog friendly this this is in yale town this this is like in the like expensive part
of town this place this person is not that dog is allowed there yeah i will not comment on the dog i'm
not allowed to talk about animals on this show they don't want to hear it nobody likes it so uh i would
not want the dog on porch but that's my personal opinion why you got a problem with my crotch and why you got a
problem with dog on porch dog on porch is just not from i don't i don't
I feel like such a curmudgeon.
I just don't like when animals jump on me and bark at me and smell my crotch and ass.
But very rarely do they do that.
Most of the time, you know what I mean?
They come and they sit beside the table or whatever.
Just kind of hang out.
But it does happen.
It's a thing that can happen.
What if there are a lot of people.
How do you feel about that?
The dogs?
Yeah.
Love it.
Okay.
A lot of people, though, like think that their dog is a,
is more socially
good than the dog actually is.
It's all I'm saying.
And I've just had,
I worked as a cable guy.
I know it was way back in the day,
but I got to tell you, man,
that job will make you be like,
oh,
nobody knows how to.
I disagree.
I think most people,
like if I go over to somebody's house
and their dog is excited to see me
and like jumping up on me,
a little bit as long as it's not huge and hurting me.
I like that. That makes me feel good.
They're smelling your crotch and ass, dude.
Who cares?
In a friendly way, though. That's how they, they're doing it to one another too.
Yeah, they're, they're, there's, you have a problem with someone sniffing your ass all of a sudden.
Yep.
I don't like.
Roodish, no, Brian?
Do you, I don't like people smelling my balls either.
You met, oh, somebody's got, my own wife.
Someone's got stinky balls.
I asked my wife every night to smell my balls, but other than that, I don't want anybody else doing it.
Brian, you met Milo, right? You met Milo, right?
I have met Milo.
Milo's not a bad dog because I've never had an interaction with him.
Milo's nice, but Milo will jump up all over you for sure.
He gets excited, but like it's all excitement, you know, it's no aggression.
It's all excitement.
Good dog, not annoying at all.
Yeah, yeah, he's a great dog.
Your dog's not annoying.
And listen, when I go to somebody's house, they got a dog and I don't notice there's a dog,
perfectly like, but my brother's dog, man, that dog is up your ass.
I knew there was a dog in your mind that this was about.
Listen, and I'll tell you this, though, I'll say I see a lot of dogs.
They, you know, they're not really sniffing your ass that much.
I think there's something going on with your ass.
Don't you dare start turning my ass and balls into a thing.
I believe that these dogs might be on to something.
They're not on this.
They're not bloodhounds.
I'll bridge the gap here.
I like, if I'm drinking on a patio and there's some dogs around, I don't mind.
it and I can even like it.
But there can be a situation where I'm like,
okay, these fucking dogs.
Like there's a lot of dogs and I can't maneuver
around because of all the dogs.
That can happen.
If there's too many dogs,
but if there's too many people that can be annoying too.
I think that I like the idea of those
a bloodhound going after Brian's ass
because it's bleeding from all his gigantic shit.
Well,
when I got back from vacation,
man,
because the amount of blood in my crap.
Anyway, you were, you were taking shit, you were taking shit so big that Tom Brady was picking
him up and throwing him for touchdown.
Well, Kyle gives it one star.
He goes, used to be a great bar, but now the bartenders have zero interest in attending
customers.
Had a staff member hold up a finger to me when I was asking a question while she ordered
A&W off of her phone.
Okay, that's funny.
It's so funny.
I'm with the bartender blind, that just sounds hilarious.
You're ordering the child.
The guy's like, can I get a beer?
You're like,
giving them the one second.
And then like,
so you're looking at her phone too.
She's doing it in plain view,
making an A&W order.
You a Motser,
a teen person, honey.
Yeah, shout out to A&W though.
Canadian A&W.
We love it.
What's your order at A&W?
I just had A&W the other night.
I haven't had it in a while,
but I had it the other night
had a popper burger with cheese combo.
That's what I went on.
Dry as hell.
I'm a Motsa burger and seasoned fries guys.
Oh, beautiful. Yeah, I had a, I actually had a root beer in, in mug as well in a big frosty mug. Oh, yeah. I got the,
Josh, they got the, the root beer floats back, by the way. I will go get one of those. I will go out of my way to try one. Last time I had one, it was truly so nice. I was like, this is fantastic.
Yeah, it's so nice in the mug. It's so perfect in the mug with the NW root beer. It is a really nice treat to have. And it made a big deal of it. Like, yeah, the, the boys back in town, you know, like they have all these big ads for.
and stuff. And this boy will be back hanging out with Rudy the bear this weekend because of it.
One star. Quick tip about this place is the bartender tells you to wait 30 or 40 minutes and leave
the place. Yeah, I agree. You will end up waiting two hours and still won't get the table.
It's the most disorganized and disrespectful service you can imagine. If somebody tells me to wait
30 or 40 minutes or something, I am going to leave and go out to where I generally walk out the door.
Generally walk out the door if they say it 30 to 40 minutes. It depends on the news.
30 I'm gone.
If I'm on vacation, I'll wait 40, 45 minutes.
It depends.
But I'm rarely on vacation.
So 90% of the time it'd be like, I'm like 20 minutes or I'm out of here.
But if I'm on vacation, I'll wait 60 minutes.
I think that is kind of accurate to say that you are on vacation 10% of your life.
That is pretty accurate.
Wow.
I wish that was accurate.
I think it genuinely.
That's like three days out of a month, right?
That you would be on vacation.
I don't go on vacation every month.
You think I do.
But every other month for a week would get you three days a month.
And it's because I tell you that.
Listen, Josh, you do a monthly podcast with him so you don't necessarily probably, but you at least know him well enough to know.
He vacates.
He vacates.
There's no question.
But I will say, maybe this is interesting to the listeners, Brian is easier for.
for me to plan with than I was ever expecting as a listener to this show.
And that is why Chris and I work together because we're easy to plan.
We are easy to do.
Brian is good.
We work really well together in that.
We figure it out.
I tell him like, hey, this week, can I not, can we not record on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday?
He says, fine.
We figure it out.
We make it work always.
We do.
We make it.
Great negotiators.
Great communication you two.
Amazing.
We have good communication.
And I mean, part of it is like, you know, he says to me, listen, you know, do
is Isaiah or else I'll cut you I'll cut you down to three percent from five percent of the of the Patriot.
And maybe maybe if he's good, I'll let him stop, you know, I'll start paying him soon.
He'll be done paying off his computer.
That's right.
I did.
I got a, I got a computer a few years ago that I'm paying off every month.
So I'm not technically getting money for the podcast yet.
But he is getting paid.
I'm getting paid.
There's no money in pocket right now.
But it's, I want to say it's, I'm only like 13, 14 months away last.
my tech from getting into the black on this.
You all are also going to own a computer at the end of it.
So let's start.
Yeah.
That you'll need to read that you'll need to get a new one.
By the end.
Yeah.
But listen, I mean,
the computer's under his name and he may,
you know,
he does have ownership over it technically.
But it's at my house.
I signed his lease for him.
Uh,
he goes,
I see a lot of bad reviews about the waiting list here.
And it's all entirely true.
Seeing how these bartenders treat other customers.
And then another guy.
This one's crazy.
Dirty little spot.
I love the first line.
Dirty little spot and the female Caucasian server with curly hair last night sold me two room temp beers and a room temperature glass.
I nicely asked for a replacement and she rudely refused to replace it and said, drink it.
Every beer here is all the same.
Take it.
Avoid this place at all costs.
Take your money elsewhere.
Listen, if all the beers are warm, sorry.
You're going to be drinking a warm beer.
you know the next one
does that sound real to you guys someone said all the beers here are the same
it seems sort of out of the bounds of belief
I think they're saying it was all the
They're all gonna be warm like hey listen there's something like but that's that sounds it's out of the tap
Don't they have a cooling situation?
Yeah, it can't refrigerate up you know these dive bars
I don't know if this is a dive bar
I mean it is in Yale town refrigeration issues
Yeah yeah they could be having refrigeration issues
This is sneaky Pete's pool cafe, 424 McLean Drive, Vancouver, BC.
That's McLean.
McLean.
Maclean.
You should know how to pronounce McLean.
It's not a Canadian thing.
McLean is really good.
M-C-L-E-A-N.
Yeah, it's McLean.
It's a name.
Say, say L-E-A-N.
Say that.
I know you're right.
You're saying McLean?
McLean.
Yeah, yeah.
He's saying Mr.
Colleen over here.
He's just,
I'm clean.
It's true.
He thinks revenge sevenfold.
I like that it is like,
yeah,
but he just thinks because it's Canadian,
right,
that it's like,
oh,
it's probably some fucked up
pronunciation.
No, that's the problem.
No.
If that was in America
or anywhere else,
I'd say McLean.
Really?
Ireland and Scotland.
Like John McLean.
Like John McLean.
Like,
MC-C-L-A-N-E.
or A-I-N, I guess it can be as well.
Yeah, it's just John, let me look him up.
So what is McDonald's to you, Brian?
McDonnells?
McDonald's?
McDonald's?
McDonald's?
No, it's McDonald's.
It makes perfect sense.
This is your, you guys have a colloquial.
I've used that word twice, so I'm using it wrong for sure.
You guys have a way you say it in Vancouver that is wrong, but you've accepted it.
It's like, uh, Bell Fountain.
in Ohio.
It looks like it's spelled
Bella Fontaine.
B-E-L-L-E-F-O-N-T-A-I-N-E.
But it's Bell Fountain or Louisville.
It looks like it says Louisville,
but it's Louisville.
And I would never come after you for saying.
Can I tell you something, Brian?
I think it can be pronounced as McLean.
I know.
It can, but it's McLean as well.
It's like either are.
So it depends on the region.
So I think you are actually right here.
I think maybe this is a regional thing.
where people are listening and they're like, no, Brian's right here.
McLean is how you, but I've never heard it pronounce that way ever in my life.
I'm dying on this hill.
It's not McLean.
I don't care what Chris Google.
It says on Google.
It says, yeah, I've always pronounced it McLean, but I've heard multiple people call it McLean.
This is like on Reddit, but it's like it's a debate.
I get the doc your pay.
It's a debate.
So Brian, and to me, I just as a Canadian, as living in Vancouver, I've never heard it
pronounce anything other than McLean.
That'll be one more month on the old paying back the computer.
I'm docking your pay for saying I was wrong when I was right.
That is, you disrespected me in front of Josh and all the listeners.
On the writer's room, I made fun of you for thinking that the, for saying that the,
um, the Blair Witch Project is a mockumentary and I was wrong about that.
That was an insane thing you made fun of me for.
That was insane.
Of course, it's a mockumentary.
It is a mockumentary.
In a way, I always think of it as a comedy thing, but it is mocking a documentary.
Fake documentary.
It is like, so some people are saying, and I kind of agree that I jump.
And then I got, yeah, that, that.
So sometimes I do that, Brian, I'm, I get in the habit of like, you know, I'm, I'm on guys here.
We're, we're, we're, we're crazy because I'm the smartest guy you know.
You're the second smartest guy I know.
Who's the first?
Um.
All due respect, Josh.
It's a certain guy by the name of Don Aaron.
No.
He was not smart.
He did graduate high school, which I did not at the time.
He got to walk into graduation.
But again, what did he do when he got out of high school?
Did he walk in their graduation or did he drive his fucking T-Bird?
What did he do when he got out of high school is all I'm saying?
Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know about it.
Race car college?
Race car college.
That's right.
that's kind of stupid is that a sign of intellect it's stupid it's a stupid guy thing no i don't think
it is a stupid thing to do actually i don't think i don't think of a car i don't think too fast no no no
how to fix race cars so that's actually smart like that actually requires a smart thing to do it's just
a weird thing to go to college for i kind of see what christ's coming from on the whole small thing
for specifically high performance vehicles instead of just learning how to work on cars that's a little
to me. I think if you can work on a race car, you can do a normal car easy.
Well, that's true. He was able to do that, but he never did. Yeah, you're always taking it to
the mechanic. He could probably be pretty close to figuring on how to fix a rocket ship.
Plug away. He's not true. It sounds like it sounds to me like Aaron's basically rocket scientist.
I'm understanding why he's in your top spot of smartest guys. I would say I'm smarter than him.
Well, this guy at, uh, we got two more reviews here. One is sneaky Pete's and I just love this review.
not a place for kids or families.
The manager was clear that kids are not part of their business plan.
It became abundantly clear when he suggested to the bartender that he hated kids.
The bartender?
He told the bartender, I hate kids because it's quote that he quote hated kids.
But there's a bar there.
So there's a bartender and a bar.
That should tell you it's not for kids as well.
Yeah, I think it's not great to hate children.
I like being around kids.
I think they're funny.
But if you don't like kids, I think you should be allowed to go to a bar
and think, okay, this doesn't need to be catered to children.
It's a bar.
Yeah.
It's an established.
That should be the place, Josh.
That's right.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Like there is a place where you should be able to go where there are no kids.
And that's increasingly becoming like a thing that doesn't exist.
You go to these breweries.
They got like a little kid section.
Don't get me started on.
Kids can play at the brewery and stuff like that.
I'm fine with it.
I love kids.
I like hanging out with kids.
I like watching kids play.
But like I can also like a 20,
year old guy that doesn't have kids and isn't around kids, maybe he wants to go somewhere
where there aren't kids. You know what I mean? Like, it makes perfect sense to me because when I was,
when I was 23, 24, 25, I didn't want anything to do with kids, dude. I don't tell. That's why Katie
told me in a note that she was pregnant because I spent all my time talking about how I don't
like kids. I don't want them. I never want them.
I never want to have them in my life.
Yeah.
And then and it feels like a pool hall bar to alcohol serving pool hall should be a good place to go.
Oh, it's zero for it.
Of course it's like common sense tells you it's not catered towards children.
Yeah.
Here's the pool hall in my town.
Susie Q pool hall.
I like the name.
This last review, it's just a quick review that I just thought was funny.
This is a guy named Free Trials.
He gave it one star.
doorman wouldn't let me in to get my food from tipsy taco that I ordered online even though I'm
obviously an old man stupid sounds to me like that was three kids with a dredge coat I'm obviously
an old man you can't get to see that nice try I love that it's I'm obviously old man period
stupid period it's the most Columbus
stupid, but that is pool guys.
We're changing to the pool guys.
It's pool guys.
We're changing into pool.
They used to call it billions.
The grease man's going to be on in the morning on CBS.
Maybe.
And Josh, do you have anything you'd like to plug?
Yeah, man.
I'm on blue sky at wrestlingbrain.com.
And if you follow wrestling, twitch.tv slash wrestling brain.
We hate WWE, but we cover everything else.
That's right, baby.
Of course, monthly on the podcast feed with Brian.
I love doing that show.
I think you'll like it too if you just want to overhead of the world of wrestling.
Check out wrestling.
I know it's weird when people like, I don't watch wrestling by the list of that show.
But like Josh doesn't have bad opinions on wrestling.
I mean, I think we disagree on some stuff.
Some stuff.
But mostly we're kind of in lockstep.
We have good taste.
Chris, on the other hand, yeah.
I think I have a different taste.
And yeah, I'm a purist.
I'm a purist and I don't like some of the shenan.
again surrounding some of the new stuff.
Too many falsies.
Yeah, it's, it's, I mean, let's be honest with you.
Sometimes it does not seem a little bit silly.
Like, I like it to be very serious.
I do too.
The days when the old ladies would be afraid of the wrestlers, that's, that's when I,
like, they were genuinely afraid of them.
And they should have been, too, because some of these wrestlers were really bad guys
who would hurt their families and stuff.
Yeah, you watch, you watch the dark side of the ring.
I'm watching the new season of Dark Side of the Dark Side of.
Oh, how do you like my favorite? Chris, I'll say this to Josh, before we get our Chris, Chris comes on the call before we do a podcast.
It might have been a writer or something like that.
It was writer's room.
Because I just watched this dark side of the ring and it was disgusting.
And I'm sure it's one of your favorite things.
And I was like, Joe versus Necro version?
One of the best matches I've ever seen.
Absolutely.
No, I didn't, listen, I'd like, I was just saying like this was like some real fucking awful.
Like, I know Brian loves the gore and all of that shit.
and I was like, I bet you love this shit.
Yeah, and I do as well.
Yeah, and to me it was like, yeah, it was, to me it was very stupid.
But it also, it was very, yeah, it was like the guys, you know, it's like, hey, this is a guy who has like something wrong with him.
Very clearly has something wrong with him that he's like, I want people to hurt me really bad and potentially die.
You know, the guy named Necro butcher?
Yeah, he's going to this guy's clearly has some sort of mental problems.
And he does.
Did you enjoy the episode, Chris?
Yes, I very much enjoyed it.
Cool.
Yeah.
It was great, good episode.
Big Boss Man one was pretty good too.
I don't watch that yet.
Okay.
See you guys later.
All right.
Thanks for having me, guys.
Bye.
