Starting point is 00:00:18 Welcome to guys, a podcast about guys. I'm going to make you an offer you can't reviews. I'm Brian. And with me this week is Chris James. Hi, Chris. Hello, Brian. Oh, Mama Mia, make you an offer you can't. You can act like a man.
Starting point is 00:00:35 I don't think he says mama me. I'll make you an offer. He says mama me all. Every line in Goodfellas, or in Goodfellas. The Godfather. He's a good father. Fantastic start, Brian. Well, the good father.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Now, for he rest. wrestling fans out there, you'll be like, there was actually the good father when the godfather got rid of his hose. And he became a church guy. The good father. Now, I do remember that. That was very good attitude era. That was some attitude era stuff. Whereas like, now I'm a preacher. I'm the good father. I do remember that. Yeah, I do remember that now. And this week on his show, we have Maddie Lubchanski, three-time guest. Hey, Maddie. Wow. That's incredible work by me. How's it going?
Starting point is 00:01:18 I didn't know we were doing movie quote guys. I would have had more quotes ready to rock. Milk was a bad choice. Yeah. Well, we'll be hearing. We'll be reading some comments on that actually. I would imagine. I mean,
Starting point is 00:01:32 it's one of the greatest, it's one of the greatest lines in the history of cinema. So I can understand why it's sort of has become part of the zeitgeist. Was milk a bad choice. I have a light in my living room called I love lamp. One of the Phillips Hugh lamps is called I love lamp. That's great. I love LAMP.
Starting point is 00:01:50 But yeah, yeah, we're doing movie quote guys. A dream episode for me from day one. I was like, I don't know how you do this because technically movie quote guys would throw movie quotes back and forth to each other. Oh, sure. Yeah, of course. That's basically all that it is, right, is people doing movie quotes. But I just have a quick question for you, Brian. I don't want to derail it too much.
Starting point is 00:02:10 But why don't you tell Maddie what we're doing before the episode? I don't tell anybody what we're doing at all. No, I know, but why not? I don't know. I guess is my question. I feel like it would be... Because I make the decision sometimes very late. Maybe I should have told her when I figured it out.
Starting point is 00:02:26 I like to go blind. Okay. I know that's... I know you kind of have to say that, right? Because it's the case now and you're very kind and polite, but... That's true. I'm very kind. I do think that it's... I think it would be nice, like...
Starting point is 00:02:37 Game time decision. Just to have them, even if it's six hours or 12-hour run-up where they just have a little bit of an idea. So again, like Maddie said, then she could come in with a movie quote or whatever and have one prepared for it. We shouldn't be preparing people for anything. This is one of those like, it's an improv show, you know. I want to defer to Brian, who's one of the greats.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Thank you. Yeah, we call him the podfather. He's known as the podfather. Yep. Speaking of the Godfather. I'll give you a podcast. I'll give you a podcast you can't refuse. I'll give you an ad read.
Starting point is 00:03:11 You can't refuse. Well, the first quote we got here. So how I figured this out was, I was like, wait a minute. minute, movie quotes are on YouTube. Like, they'll post like just the clip of just the quote on YouTube. Yeah. And they have a million, 14 million views on the first one we're going to do. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Yeah, it's one of the most popular things to watch. Like I said, I do it sometimes, not just the quote. Insane. But I'll watch like a movie scene. I'll watch a movie scene, you know, like a scene from a movie. A movie from a movie makes sense to me. Watching a quote. is crazy.
Starting point is 00:03:50 I guess like maybe it has all the V because people are just to maybe people are like I want to remember exactly what the quote was for some reason or whatever it's like stuck in their head so they're like they go search it and then they go watch it so they can see the actual quote to get it correct. I will say that though over the years of doing this podcast so many people do movie quotes and they get them wrong like it's always wrong. I don't think people really care that much about accuracy. I think they're just like saying the quote
Starting point is 00:04:21 And it being like That's why milk was a bad choice Is such a good one because it's so like You know what I mean? It's so easy to remember It's hard to mess up Those are I love Lamp Those are great ones
Starting point is 00:04:32 I guarantee there's people out there being like Milk was a poor choice or whatever Yeah yeah yeah Like I shouldn't have Shouldn't have chosen milk on this particular Sunny day There are it's just the way it is They just don't care
Starting point is 00:04:46 They just want you to get the They want the dopamine hit of saying, I've seen Anchorman to you. Basically, this one, this first one I have up here is the first one I found, Good fellas. Tommy DeVito, funny how, right? Yeah, this is, this is a classic. I'm funny like a clown, you know what I mean? Like, uh, this one is easy to mess up, definitely, because it has like a few different, yeah, it's long and yeah. First comment. I heard that after this scene, Scorsese went up to Joe Pesci and told him nice, but that was kind of scary. And Joe Pesci replied, Scary how.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Holy shit. This guy's a character. He's like, he's a method actor. This guy goes Scorsese. Just, just how you did the acting, you know?
Starting point is 00:05:31 That's the reply. They're riffing. Rip time. So now they're imagining this conversation between Scorsese and. Yeah. Okay. Shane says,
Starting point is 00:05:41 Pesci. I don't know. You say I'm scary. How the fuck am I scary? What the fuck is so scary about me? And then Stevie just says, has excellent comments, people, well played. I feel like a lot of well played.
Starting point is 00:05:55 These are very much well played kind of guys where it's just like, I will tip my cap to you, sir, like you win the internet today, that type of stuff. I have found that there are slight differences between these guys in a way, that like there are the guys that watch the mafia movies, but they are very different from the guys who watch Bain clips.
Starting point is 00:06:18 You know what I mean? Yeah, well, it makes sense. People have different taste in movies, right? So it makes sense, right? There's going to be people who prefer this type of movie, the comedy guys. But the comedy guys are probably riffing harder, right? Oh, God, they go crazy. We have some comedy guys coming up to, I have one that people won't remember where the riffing is outrageous. But I'll give you a preview for the end when we do the Anchorman stuff. You too will not believe how many people claim they got laid quoting Anchorman to a woman. a bar. You will not even believe the number of people. I hate that. I wonder if a lot of these people are the sort of person who's like, think of them, think of themselves as like a big
Starting point is 00:07:03 cinephile, but, but, but, but watch only Marvel movies and Christopher Nolan and like Steven Spielberg. And they're like, I love movies. And that's all they watch. And they all like, would never go see like anything even medium. interesting. Like Tony, for example, like me. I'll go see your sort of indie films like Tony. Tony. Tony. Yeah. Mama Mia. It's a Tony. I mean, Mamma Mia. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Tony. I'm a Tony. I think he's Italian, right? Is he Bordane? No, I think he's French. Oh, he's French. He's French. Yeah, of course. Bourdain is Italian. Yeah. This guy goes, y'all did the damn thing, LMFAO. I think the actor who plays him is Italian. I could be wrong about it.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Probably. Yeah. Name like Dominaxessa. Mamma Mia is what it was. He's probably saying. This guy replied. This guy, Mario, replies to the excellent comments people well played and he says, we're excellent how?
Starting point is 00:08:02 How the fuck are we excellent? Oh, shit. Mario is like, oh, you thought this was done? Wrong. Rift not over. And then this guy goes, scary how? You mean like a ghost? I'm here to scare you?
Starting point is 00:08:17 God. And then this guy goes, here to make you scream. I'm here to fucking scare you. This is one of the greatest, that's one of the greatest, like, that's known as a riff resuscitation. Because somebody came in and was a fully like, the riff is over now. I'm going to say, well played. We'll call it a day everybody. And this guy is just like riff resuscitated. And it, now it's going arguably stronger than it was before. Well, then this guy goes, these are the comments the internet was made for. Mm-hmm. And then this guy says, now imagine.
Starting point is 00:08:48 that scene, but instead of Joe Pesci, it's someone with the build of Sylvester Stallone. That's basically what the real Tommy looked like. Oh, shit. I love these guys too. Like, just like, you know, this is like a real thing that happened and just fucking imagine how literally scary that would be if we're talking Sly Stallone, but he's got the attitude of Pesci. That's what this guy was dealing with in real life.
Starting point is 00:09:14 By the way, speak, yeah, there is a did. Have you seen the trailer? for there's a new movie about Sylvester Stallone No it's about his life writing Rocky It's about him writing and creating Rocky and it's I mean it's made by him I don't know
Starting point is 00:09:31 Oh if he's involved with it it would be the greatest This is like a new wave of movies where we're getting movies about making Yeah Classic movies like there's one about the Godfather There's one about the Godfather there's one about the Godfather There's the SNL movie It's like all these movies that like we're just like fully out of ideas to the point We're like oh we can't reboot
Starting point is 00:09:48 Rocky because it's like creed is still going right so we can make a movie about the making of rocky and how audacious it was yeah that's the crazy part about it mattie is like the way that they're trying to sort of like manufacture this drama in it where they're just like if he did if they're if they don't get the filming done in time they're going to cut you from the movie and they're going to use somebody else and it's just like they have to like manufacture because it's a movie so they have to create this drama but it's like it's I I was gobsmacked in the theater thinking like how the fuck could this possibly be a movie they're like trying to make a whole movie sorry they're like trying to make a whole movie out of just like someone at a party telling you
Starting point is 00:10:26 like oh do you know that actually you sliced alone wrote rocky and it was like kind of like a serious drama yeah considered at the time and like our conception of it now is a little different culturally it's like wow that's interesting can you tell me about this for two and a half hours yeah that was i was listening to tom sharpling talk about this bruce springsteen movie where he's like this joyous rock like guy this legend that wrote all all these like really good songs and people. And we picked the most depressing part of his life. And we just made a movie out of that.
Starting point is 00:10:56 And then at the end and then I was talking about actually my, my daughter's boyfriend is a big fan of Bruce Springsteen. Shout out to Ashron. And he saw it. And I was talking to him. He was like, yeah. And then at the end, they're just like, I got this album called Born in the USA coming up.
Starting point is 00:11:12 And the movie ends. Wow. Sequel. I smell a sequel. This camera zooms in on his ass. this guy goes this guy goes how am I funny me you're from home alone
Starting point is 00:11:27 oh is this a different riff yep and then this guy goes and lethal weapon and then this dude goes I didn't know that damn it pat now I can't hear or unsee the wet bandits in this movie oh no you've totally ruined good fellas for me and this guy's like I totally forgot about the concept of actors multiple films.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Fuck me. This guy goes, ha, ha, ha, that me spit and coke on my screen. Oh. Jesus, I remember my youth and it was so fucked up. My friends often apologized after some banter and cowered their heads with hands. I guess I was some mindless violent creature at the time. This is so grim. I apologize.
Starting point is 00:12:12 I have to go get that delivery I was telling you about Brian. I'll be back in one minute. I apologize to the listeners. to Maddie and to Brian. Don't apologize. Thank you for your apology. He can't hear me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Yeah. So this guy seems like he was an evil guy. And he's realizing now. It's like I had a phase. Yeah. God, I can't remember how. I had,
Starting point is 00:12:34 I didn't get to my, I got to my 30s before I realize. Oh, fuck. I'm an asshole. Sure. You know what I mean? Where you're like,
Starting point is 00:12:42 where you're like running around for years being like, I'm kind of the fucking, I'm kind of the tell. like it is kind of guy. Sure. I got a sarcastic t-shirt. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:53 And people think, people, people, people know I'm just fucking around. You know what I mean? Right. Right. Right. And then like, one friend gets really mad at you and you're like, wait, hold on. Have I been just a dick forever and ever? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:08 I just remember thinking like, oh, I might not be. People might not know I'm fucking around. Right. Yeah. I'm very lucky in that like a good friend of mine, like, basically like hit me very hard when I was like 15. Yeah. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:13:25 oh, right, okay. Got it. Let me realign my entire life real quick. It just, it didn't, it didn't make sense to me that,
Starting point is 00:13:34 that people would think I would be seriously being an asshole. Right. But then in your mind later, you're like, oh, fuck, I was, I was like,
Starting point is 00:13:45 when you're an asshole, you're an asshole. It doesn't matter if you're, fucking joking around or something. If you say somebody's feelings, you're fucking asshole. And here's what an asshole would say. And I'm going to say it and you're going to have to hear the words
Starting point is 00:13:58 that an asshole would be saying to you. Isn't that so funny? Yeah. If I'm like doing a thing that's like, is it like, check it out. I bought this gun. And it would be so mean if I shot you with it.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Exactly. I will do. There's just a couple more on, on the Joe Pesche. This guy goes, I've watched this hundreds of times. Yet I still get nervous when he gets serious. Amazing scene. I'm like, bro.
Starting point is 00:14:27 I can't get a pop out of, listen, I can't get a pop out of a movie I've seen three times. Like, I don't feel the same feelings I felt the first time. And these guys are just like, I just, I watch this movie every day. And you know what? It still scares me. And then finally, this guy goes, imagine if he was, dad and you got into trouble. Imagine.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Wouldn't that be so scary? It would be. Now, I'm going to play this quote because I don't think it's one of the more popular quotes, but it's one of the more popular. It's only 35 seconds. And it's one of the more popular quotes on YouTube. Like it has. What?
Starting point is 00:15:08 Are we still on the same movie? I'm back. We're moving to another one now. Liar liar. Liar. Pulled over scene. That's right. And here we.
Starting point is 00:15:18 go. I'm gonna just play it. It's 35 seconds. You know why it pulled you over? Depends on how long you were following me. Why don't we just take it from the top? Here goes. I sped. I followed too closely. I ran a stop sign. I almost hit a Chevy. I spent some more. I failed to yield at a crosswalk. I changed lanes in the intersection.
Starting point is 00:15:38 I changed lanes without signaling while running a red light and speeding. Is that all? No. I have unpaid parking tickets. So that is the scene. Yeah, this killed when I was 12 and I saw it in a theater.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Oh, yeah. I got to say. I got to say I did love this movie. I was probably around the same age when it came out. And I really did think it was one of the funniest. I mean, I love Jim Carrey. I like everything that he did. It's really sad what happened with him.
Starting point is 00:16:12 Yeah. He stopped making good movies. He stopped doing comedy. He's like the archetype of me. Are you not a big fan of the Sonic films? Well, he is funny in the Sonic film. I mean, this film's terrible, but he is pretty, funny in it because he's so good but yeah that's kind of what he's been reduced to now is doing
Starting point is 00:16:29 that kind of stuff whereas i would love to see him in a you know ace ventura and a real vehicle yeah bring back ace vanjura and all the cool stuff that's in that movie well that first every element of base ventura oh yeah i forgot about how awful you forgot about the plot of the first entire movie okay and then the second movie though oh hey listen then they made the second movie which redeemed itself by being insanely racist. Let's bring back the one of the most bigoted franchises in history. Well, okay. So they did it.
Starting point is 00:17:01 They did a transphobic one. They did a racist one. Maybe they could find like a new. Yeah. What else could they do? Islamophobic. The next one could be just like straight up regular misogynist. There's so many bigotries left unexplored by the Ace Ventura franchise.
Starting point is 00:17:18 And I think it's time for like a legacy sequel. Maybe he's got like a. kid, right? And it's like a young kid and he's got the same haircut. Yeah. That exists, right? Oh, maybe that exists. There was a young Ace Ventura movie.
Starting point is 00:17:31 For sure. That came out. No, I don't think they're not with Jim Carrey. Not with Jim Carrey. There is a young Ace Ventura movie. They tried to get one going for sure. I can show you the picture.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Young Aes Ventura Jr. Yes. I believe that's what it is. Young. there it is ace ventura junior pet detective nobody isn't it directed by nobody Ace Ventura is joining the IDF he's helping
Starting point is 00:18:05 Bibby Netin Yahoo find his missing pet there he is there's the there's Ace Ventura Pet Detective Jr yeah so I I ran around for many, many years saying my favorite comedy movie of all time is Aisandjura when nature calls.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Sure. I thought that was the, yeah, I've seen it a million times. I thought it was the funniest movie in the world. Yeah, I mean, I thought when I was a little kid,
Starting point is 00:18:33 I thought both of them were the funniest things ever. I thought like when he's kicking the package at the beginning, you know, I was just like, I'm just going crazy. Oh yeah. I made everybody go see when nature calls, I believe, for my 10th birthday. Yeah. He's spitting. bit balls on a guy that's doing
Starting point is 00:18:51 like a, like some trial where he has to stand on top of a big pole. And there's a scene where he just, through the whole movie, he's harassing that guy trying to get him to fall off. I don't know why I thought that was the funniest thing in the world. This guy first, the first comment is if only politicians were forced to tell the truth like Jim Carrey's character had to do on this day.
Starting point is 00:19:13 I go him Jim Carrier because he's so good to play characters. Yeah, he's such a character. He plays characters and he is a character. You should go by Jim Character. Jim Character. Well, maybe someday in the future we'll have a court-appointed honesty chip that we can implant in politicians' brains. Someday. I just, what do you think these, the people who do this in their spare time?
Starting point is 00:19:34 I don't know. What do you think they're like in real, like, who are, are they like, are we among them? Or are these like shut-ins that you never see in public? They quote movies at work. They go to work and they throw movie quotes back and forth with a guy they work with. Oh, yeah. There's, there's work. There's like offices where you, you best, you best not be bringing in milk for, with your lunch. Right. You know what I'm saying? He's got like a Transformers logo tattoo. Sure. Yeah, I can, I can imagine the guy, certainly. I just think like it is mostly a guy that strangely watches the same movie all the time, like the same movies all the time.
Starting point is 00:20:15 You know what I mean? But they can be satisfied by watching the movies that are. on like TBS all day or the Comedy Central move that's fine with them. It's Anthony Cuma. It's Anthony Cuma. That's why I got the idea. Yeah, Anthony Cuma is one of these guys. Yeah, yeah for sure. I definitely had
Starting point is 00:20:33 I had a roommate in college or like a sweetmate who would watch either the Boondock Saints or rounders every single night as he was falling asleep. Yeah. That sounds night. Yeah. Yeah. The Boondock.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Boondock Saints was a movie where, like, listen, I was into all those horrible, stupid movies. You know, I liked Goodfellas when I was younger, but I remember my friends. Hold on. Let's not drag Goodfellas into this, which is actually like a good movie bag. It's a good movie, but it is one of those movies where when you're younger or whatever, you're like, this is the most fucking badass movie ever. But like Boondock Saints, I remember my friends, you know, when I was like in my early teen or mid-teens, maybe, my friends were like really into Boondock Saints. and I was like, I didn't get it.
Starting point is 00:21:21 I got to admit the other ones I've totally understood, but Boondock Saints, I was like, this kind of fucking sucks. Can I say that I'm very good? I had a hard time with Billy Connolly being a badass. Yeah, I don't remember the actors in it, but that's funny. Yeah, it was tough for me. This guy goes through my entire driving instruction, driving tutoring, and driving for 15 years.
Starting point is 00:21:44 This movie was the only one who told me that changing lanes in an intersection was illegal. The guy who's learning life lessons from liar, liar, other than tell the truth. Yep, that's why I'm here watching it. Every time I see someone do it, I think about this scene. Okay, so he sees
Starting point is 00:22:02 somebody do it, and then he goes back to his computer or his phone, and he watches the scene again. He's watching it in his car and crashing his car. This guy goes, I found out after I was pulled over for it, and he goes, please tell me you gave them the speech. Please, for
Starting point is 00:22:18 love of God, tell me, please. Even if it didn't happen, just tell me. I hope there's a guy down there being like, I'm a cop and when people say this to me, I don't give them a ticket because I'm so tickled by it. I slap my knees. I've seen that movie. Movie quote cop is a really powerful image to me. Oh, yeah, I'm sure they definitely exist for sure.
Starting point is 00:22:42 Yeah, they must. This is a fantastic, why did you post this comment? I never do it myself because it's dangerous, but I asked a cop once about it in Minnesota. He says it's not technically illegal, but it's definitely frowned upon. What's that? Changing planes in an intersection. It is illegal, though, isn't it? I don't think it's, I mean, some places, it's, all traffic laws in the United States are different everywhere.
Starting point is 00:23:07 So he's saying in that particular place it wasn't illegal. And then this guy goes Murrickens to, oh, the M-U-R-I-C-A-N. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Cool. Overtake from the left and hog the far right overtake lane. They drive weirdly for a European. That's because we have a difference.
Starting point is 00:23:26 And he goes, I knew that from real life somehow. And then this guy goes, can we all just appreciate the fact that police officer, even though he probably wasn't a real one, was able to keep a straight face through that entire thing? Well, he's an actor. You don't know that. He's an actor. That's kind of what the old. And who knows how many scenes that he maybe did laugh sometimes.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Maybe there's like 20 takes of him cracking the freak up because two characters hitting him with one of his famous characters. Yes. I mean, it's not SNL. It's not live in front of a, you know, they have a chance. And that's part of acting is you have to be able to do a scene and not laugh. Every single showing of this movie in history, the little man that lives in my screen that has to perform it every time, he's never cracking. He's never cracking up at all. The truth is like, you guys don't know how this movie was filmed.
Starting point is 00:24:16 How like he was really driving. And the cops fucking pulled him over. Oh. He's like, I'm going to have to do this. And then the cop is like, I can't fucking crack a smile because it'll encourage him. And then Scorsese came up to him and was like, why did you keep rolling? And then he's just like, I can't lie to you, Scorsese. The reason is because I'm like, I'm a method actor.
Starting point is 00:24:40 This guy goes, trivia. That bottle of Mercedes did not have a glove. box due to lack of room. They used a different car for that shot. Thank you. I was wondering about that. I was like, I was like losing my mind in the theater. I remember as a little kid. Yeah, I was like, something's not right about this. I can't put my finger on it, but something feels off. This, okay, this is a good one. First time I got pulled over by a cop, I was with my friends. Not one of us said a damn word. We're taking our rights to remain silence to a total extreme. Even when we were directly ask a question, we said nothing.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Taking the hint, the cop asked us to step out of the car so he could search it. Other than a 45 caliber in the glove box, we had a permit for. He found nothing and gave us our ticket for our busted taillight and sent us on our way. Seriously, though, that had to be the scariest experience I had with a cop due to the gun I knew was in the glove box. I was fully expecting us to be arrested for it, even with the permit we had for it. Is this good think he's like at a party or something? Why? It's such a strange.
Starting point is 00:25:47 It's such a weird impulse to tell that story. This really reminds me. I think it's like under every quote. Like there's like a different scene from fucking like Ace Ventura under it. And he's like this reminds me the time I was driving and I had a glove. I had a gun on my glove box. Such a weird. These guys tell these stories.
Starting point is 00:26:09 There's going to be more of them. These guys tell these stories. And it's just like, like, like. And why are you saying this here? Like what? Yeah. And also why would you think that's a good idea? Your right to remain silent.
Starting point is 00:26:24 It means like you don't have to answer questions and stuff, but you are only going to like get in more trouble. If you literally sit there and he's just like, hey, can I see like your license and registration and you're just like not saying anything. He's not going to make the situation. Yeah. The situation is not going to improve from that. That's just a stupid way to act. Yeah. Okay, this next quote is from the dark night.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Himself? Yeah, and it is a scene with Bain. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And he's at some party, he finds a guy who's like a boss, and the guy's like, I'm in charge here. And Bain says, do you really feel in charge? That's a pretty good, Brian.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Thank you. I actually felt that one was good. That's your second. It might be your second best impression. What's my first thing? Oh, you know what it is. Hi, Michael Jackson. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Oh, yeah? That's number one. I would love to hear 20 to 30 minutes more of that. Well, you will. You could on the Patreon.com slash not even a show. Yeah, if you go listen to the writer's room that I do on my Patreon, then you can hear Brian doing a lot of the Michael Jackson impression. Okay.
Starting point is 00:27:33 He actually does some kind of problematic Michael Jackson impressions. Is there a non-problematic way? No, no. He does it doubly problematic. Yeah, I change things. Yeah, he changes. You take some artistic license that he only feels comfortable doing behind my paywall. A great impressionist, you know, imparts more of the feeling of listening to somebody talk and less an exact aping of their.
Starting point is 00:28:00 Absolutely. This guy quotes, and this gives you power over me? This line stuck with me more than anything else in the movie. We rely on social rules and deals to constrain others and feel like they absolutely constrain us. but ultimately at any moment you have the physical power to say get up and walk away from the building you work in. Good point. This guy replies and goes, power resides where men believe it resides. Yep.
Starting point is 00:28:26 Well, Bain really makes me think a lot about society and how it functions. Maddie, I think that you would be genuinely surprised because we talk so much about the Joker. Sure. So much. So much. Everybody is like the Joker is the, the, the, the, the, the. Batman character that we're all quoting. He's the one that tells the world like it is or whatever.
Starting point is 00:28:49 It's actually not true. It is Bain. Bain. Yeah. It's Bain doing Occupy Wall Street. Yeah. People are nuts for Bain. Like they,
Starting point is 00:28:59 they like, I can't tell you how many Bain clips there are. And I'm like, I don't remember anything Bain said in that movie. Well, you can't fucking tell what he's saying. Yeah. I don't remember any of it, though. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:29:12 It is a good movie, and he is a pretty, he's a pretty good villain. I like, go crazy. You don't think it's a good movie? I think it's, I think it's pretty bad. Oh, really? It's the worst of the three. It's the worst of the three. I like Anathway in it.
Starting point is 00:29:26 No, I disagree with you on that. I feel comfortable saying I disagree. I, I, I enjoyed it. I definitely enjoyed it. What's the worst of the three then? I don't even remember the other two. The first one? Like, I've seen them for sure, but I, I, I'm sorry?
Starting point is 00:29:39 You don't remember the one with the Joker? Oh, I remember the one with the one with the Joker? the Joker with Heath Ledger's Joker, right? Yeah, yeah. That one, I like them all. I like them all. I don't know that I necessarily like the Dark Night better than the other two. I just think it was good and I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:29:52 It's like a good superhero movie, I thought. Well, this guy replies and goes, you really think a crown gives you power? And then he gets a reply. We're going Game of Thrones mode on it. And he gets a reply says, peak dialogue. Indeed. Peak. God.
Starting point is 00:30:06 And then this guy goes, God, the dialogues were strong back then. Back in the day, they used to have fucking dialogue. Nowadays, they don't even do dialogues anymore like that. They don't make them like they used to. I love the idea that dialogue and movies used to be better. I mean, it did. It technically probably did. But it is funny to say in 2010.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Yeah, no, maybe in like the 80s or whatever. You watch a blockbuster from like basically before the 90s, like before the 80s, like new, like things that were blockbusters that seem now like art house movies. Like the dialogue is so much more complicated. You read old books. Like stuff is more dumbed down now. But it's in the same. It's so funny to say about a Batman movie from fucking 10 years ago. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Yeah. These guys are, I think I will say this. I know a guy who never, he doesn't really quote movies all the time. But when he gets drunk, he almost talks completely in movie quotes. And I think it's because he can't think of what to say. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? got all those in his brain.
Starting point is 00:31:13 They're just sitting there that he can just go through like a roll of X. You're having a conversation with him and you're saying things because I'm sober. I'm saying things and he has to reply to those things. And I think I don't, I wouldn't call it a panic necessarily. I would call it like just, oh yeah, what about there will be blood quote. You know what I mean? And I, I think of it as either that. drunk guy or very young guys
Starting point is 00:31:44 or Anthony Coombe on Jim Norton. This feels like a like a 19 year old. Yeah. That's when I feel like that's probably when I did it the most. You know, I never was like a full on movie quote guy, but that was when I liked doing it and thought it was like cool and funny to do was in my late teens, maybe early 20s. But yeah, there are definitely,
Starting point is 00:32:06 be surprised. There are some old movie quote guys. That is for sure. He never grew out of it at all. Again, when they announced the Anthony Coomia Jim Norton show, I was like, I wonder if they did all of the quotes in the first show. I guarantee they did some. I'm not listening to it.
Starting point is 00:32:25 I can't listen to Anthony anymore, everybody. He's too racist. Oh, you know what? I appreciate you saying that. Brian's, Brian has hit his limit on Anthony Coomia. He says he has to draw the line somewhere. I haven't listened to him in years, though, for real. Like, not even for the shocked over.
Starting point is 00:32:40 I haven't listened. I can't. I'm just writing this down. I'm going to put a post on my monitor for my computer. I'm just going to write, Brian is woke now. Brian is now. I've listened to Anthony Coombeamia more recently than you, Brian, because of when I did not even a show that I would like, you know, I would try to call into his show and stuff.
Starting point is 00:32:57 And I, yeah, I've told you before. Those Artie and Anthony's shows are some of the worst pieces of media that you will already just full on into drug spiral showing up randomly at times. and like with the biggest cotton mouth you've ever heard just rambling in movie quotes and those two together at that time is it's really some of the word if you get a hold of it
Starting point is 00:33:21 go try to make your way through one single episode of it you will never be able to do it it's just horrible this guy goes I see bain as a hero here the ultra rich think they control the masses but the masses has the ultimate power true so true what else did bain do in that movie
Starting point is 00:33:39 I need, well, I need to read, this reply is the perfect Bain guy. And then Bain tries to nuke the city. Bain's only a hero to useful idiots. People who may have real plights but get taken advantage of. The masses traded in one threat in form of authoritarianism for another, as the masses often do. To loosely quote Nietzsche in thought, power is the real day. Loosely quote. Loosely quote.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Oh my God. That's the Bain guy. The intellectual bane guy. I love this. To paraphrase Nietzsche. I saw that and I was like, and then I started seeing more and more guys bringing up philosophers in the Bain comment specifically. And I believe hi, Dick, I said it best. This guy goes, oh, indeed, it definitely seems like a response from a Sith apprentice, not necessarily.
Starting point is 00:34:37 like Darth Vader, but easily a different apprentice like Mara Jade or some inquisitor to a diluted moth who thinks said Sith apprentice answers to him. Excuse me, nerd. We're talking about Batman here. You got to bring a wrong turn somewhere. I love the idea. Excuse me, nerd. We're talking about fucking Bain right now.
Starting point is 00:34:59 Bain and Batman actual badass pretty dark movies. It's like really realistic, gritty stuff. And it's like making me. about Nietzsche and whatever where you're doing Star Wars, which is like wizards or something. I'm going to make you two think right now, if society ever went crashing down and we were back to tribal ways, the baines of the world will rise to power like the old days. Back to tribal days. Back to tribal days.
Starting point is 00:35:25 So just like the really ruthless people would be. Is that what he's saying? Bain. This guy goes, eh, not quite. The one who holds the powers and one that both knows and positions. the physical capacity to make you submit to their will, for example, physical strength and fighting ability. So that's that.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Now we're going to read into the comments of Batman movie quotes on YouTube and be like, did you guys know that the state is a monopoly on violence? Oh, oh, the Joker ones, every single one has an argument where guys are like, the Joker is kind of like a modern day anarchist and people will be like, uh, I don't think you've read any anarchist theory. I don't think, uh, I think the Joker has read a lot of Kropot. can actually. Well, this is from the scene in Batman, the dark night, where he said, some men just want
Starting point is 00:36:14 to watch the world burn. Yeah, that's a famous quote. That's a popular one with these guys. This guy goes, Alfred's saying some men just want to watch the world burn is so true. Some people don't care about money and just want to hurt people. It's like the dumbest guy, like the dumbest thing. Like, it's the most obvious thing. Like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:36 That's what do you say? Yeah. It's so true. Like, yeah, we know. Some people, some people like the Joker are associate pants. Yeah. We know that. I like watching the world burn from the comfort of my home with a nice cup of tea.
Starting point is 00:36:48 The world's been pretty entertaining the past few years. I'm not sure what kind of guy that is. That's not a good guy. No, not definitely not. I just, yeah, it's kind of a weird kind of guy. It's a guy who likes to say that he's out of fucks to give. That guy's like, that guy's like so twisted and crazy. Like, he's like, you know, like all the stuff.
Starting point is 00:37:07 sides of politics are the same to him. That's what I was just going to say. He's one of the guys is like, there's fucking, I don't, I don't got time for either side. They're both fucked up and they're both trying to control us, you know? Back to my South Park. The world's too far gone to care, mate. Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. And then this guy replies and goes, Jack Sparrow?
Starting point is 00:37:29 What? New quote. I don't know. Did Jack Sparrow say sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind? Is that a Jack Sparrow quote? I don't. I'm not a big fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Guy that loves the guy that loves the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and quotes Jack Sparrow.
Starting point is 00:37:47 I don't even think to look at Jack Sparrow how funny that would probably be. I never, the only thing I know about the Pirates, I definitely watched them, the early ones when they came out when I was younger. But I think the one thing I've noticed online is there's this big thing that's sharing particular scenes where they say, look how good the special effects looked in this like one Pirates the Caribbean how much better it was compared to now and how that's crazy because it was like 20 years ago or whatever but I don't know I don't know if they're if they're good I don't know if they're
Starting point is 00:38:15 good I think the first couple are pretty good I recall and you know I'm such a huge Johnny Depp fan I just love to watch him doing whatever yeah he's the best he's like he's such a cool actor and he's like I think is you know his work outside of the film is also great oh I think that he looks great nowadays too awesome I have I appreciate a guy who continues to take care of himself later on in life. We're going to move to a new guy that has some really big fans. And that guy is Tyler Durdon. Oh,
Starting point is 00:38:49 Oh, God. Oh, no. Oh, my God. Oh, God. I forgot. I forgot about Fight Club. It was like, a book, a book that sucks so bad. And then, like, the movie,
Starting point is 00:39:07 I think fixes a lot of the book's problems. And it's actually, I watched it kind of recently. It's actually a pretty good movie, but it's so easy to miss the point if you're the dumbest motherfucker alive. I love movies like that where people completely miss the point of. We're going to play a little bit of this because I want people to kind of remember where we're at with this speech. Because Tyler Darden, basically the whole movie is Tyler Durdon giving speeches everywhere.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Like that's what it feels like. That's what I remember it to be now. And I'm going to tell the listeners this, I was a. huge fight club guy watched it several times with director's commentary turned on. Yeah, it's I feel like the Darden is constantly
Starting point is 00:39:47 giving speeches, but it's like he's revealed to be like empty of like actual philosophy. Like the whole point. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, here we go. This is like, this is nihilism. Yeah. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Round, they're looking around. I see a lot of new faces. Shut up. Which means a lot of you been breaking the first two rules of fight club. Man, I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men that have ever lived. I see all this potential.
Starting point is 00:40:26 And I see swaned. God damn it, an entire generation, pumping gas, waiting tables, slaves with white collars. Advertising, has us chasing cars and clothes. Working jobs we hate so we can buy shit
Starting point is 00:40:44 we don't need. The middle children of history, man. So, I'm just, sure if you've seen Fight Club, you remember this scene. Very well. Yeah. This is a Tyler. So let's take a look at some comments here.
Starting point is 00:41:01 This guy, first thing he says is, quote, we spend our lives working job. Jobs we hate to buy shit we don't need. One of the best lines in the movie. And then this guy replies and goes, I'd much rather have a nice tastefully furnished place with a sophisticated toys and appliances. They live in Tyler's dark, dank hellhole. Hot food, hot water, and a bed providing lots of lower back support are all awesome. to.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Yeah. I mean, a bed, I don't know about, like, saying that a bed is one of the things that he's necessarily
Starting point is 00:41:30 referring to. Because I think you do need a bed. Sure. I love the, a taste, I love that he wants a tastefully furnished place with sophisticated toys and appliances. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:41:45 sophisticated toys. What would that, what does that mean? Video game consoles? Yeah, or I don't know, like car. maybe nice cars too
Starting point is 00:41:55 because there's a there's people call cars and motorcycles toys too okay I was thinking about like yeah I was thinking about maybe like one of those like those helmets that you put on where it makes you sound like the Mandalorian or whatever like that's like pretty sophisticated technology
Starting point is 00:42:10 do they have a Bain one I have a working grogoo in my house um it's like actually like I have to feed it food it's pretty sophisticated I have a BBA actually running around That's a very sophisticated toy, Brian. This guy goes, I miss the grunge era.
Starting point is 00:42:28 I wasn't even old enough to enjoy it. By the way, this movie did not come out in the grunge era. This movie came out like 1999 or something, right? That's a new metal era. That's my era is 1999. He goes, all I remember was lying around in the grass, listening to tunes while they talked about girls. Shit was so simple before the 2000s.
Starting point is 00:42:48 And it's not just because I was a kid. That's right. That's your impression of grunge is lying. the grass talking to girls talking about girls and i do love the idea that grunge happened in 1999 and it was just guys laying around talking about girls this guy really does not know what grunge was does he say what the thing at the end or did you add that on about i'm not just saying that because i'm because i was a kid he says that at the end guy that absolutely knows that it's like that you know what i mean like that's why i read that
Starting point is 00:43:23 that one because it's like he knows that it's just because he was a kid yeah but he isn't gonna you know he can't admit that to himself this guy goes then don't work and don't buy you know well yeah go live in the woods go live in the woods
Starting point is 00:43:39 be self-sufficient Dr. Pandorum says try to tell people that and see the average reaction they have a lot of hate towards the minimalist because they have a lot of money why because they don't spend it on worthlessness shit Hmm
Starting point is 00:43:54 That's a great point Here's Tyler Dirton's Philosophy of Life It's you know The same basic speech He gave there about like You know People have IKEA stuff or whatever
Starting point is 00:44:06 That was the first time I've ever heard of IKEA My dad probably watched Fight Club And was like oh He talked about IKEA and Fight Club Yeah I believe so Like in a negative way Yeah
Starting point is 00:44:16 Like it puts the prices On all this stuff in his house Oh I see But IKEA is very affordable comparatively. Is that the point he's trying to make or what is it? Why? I think in 1999, IKEA was a sort of a signifier of
Starting point is 00:44:32 a kind of urban like yuppie. I see. Like Starbucks was for a yeah. I understand. I understand. Oh, what do you drink? Like now Starbucks and IKEA are very normie coded but at the time it was very like I'm urbane and I have a middle class job and I live in a medium to big size city. I took advantage of the people thinking about Starbucks that way. so I can come into work at the cable company with the Starbucks cup and be like,
Starting point is 00:44:56 hey, guys, yeah, I'm a little. I drink a more fancy coffee. Yeah, sorry, I'm late. I was reading Camus. Yeah, but it didn't, by the way, it didn't work because he fucking got, was high on pills all the time and drove the truck on top of somebody's car and then crashed it into a ditch. So it's not like anybody who's like, oh, this guy's a little sort of upper crust.
Starting point is 00:45:19 Who is this Tyler Dutton's guy? Crashing his truck. It really was like I wanted them to think like, no, I don't watch Blockbuster. Yeah, what was the movie that you said? What movie was I said now? I remember you told this where you said, you'd said that you watched some. I mean, it was stuff like the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:42 When I was younger, I loved that movie. It's a great movie. When I haven't watched it as an adult really, like, or the last maybe 20 years, but I loved it when I was younger for sure. I like Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt's a hunk. He's a hunk and fight like too. I'd fuck him. Anyway,
Starting point is 00:46:00 the first time they said nothing wrong like John. Yeah, Brad Pitt. He's back by the way. He's, he is. I think he's back on the wagon. That's not off the wagon. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:46:11 he's having fun. Leave him alone. He's like 60 years old. Every man, this first guy goes, every man wants to be Tyler Durden. And then the next guy goes, in Tyler we trust.
Starting point is 00:46:25 Oh God. The whole thing is about like, oh, there's all these like, this like profound loneliness being caused by like capitalism as it existed in the 90s. And it's like the solution is not to go follow some like cult leader like this guy. And they're like, this guy fucking rocks. I'm so lonely. This guy is so great. I think it's because he's, he looks so fucking cool in the movie.
Starting point is 00:46:47 It's the surface level. He looks so hot and cool. And he's just like everybody's. kind of scared of him and he's tough. That's all it is. They're not looking any deeper than that. They're like, everyone wants to be Brad Pitt looking cool as hell with a spiky blonde hair and telling people how it is.
Starting point is 00:47:04 They don't also want to think about the fact that they are at least in a small way very attracted to him in that movie. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's easier to say like we all want to be him rather than we all want to make out with them. We all kiss him. We all want to kiss him. This guy goes, you miss the point by idolizing him.
Starting point is 00:47:26 And then the guy replies to him, he goes, I can care less. I like him at the end of the movie where he kind of starts to look like Marla and I really want to fuck him. I could care less. You're totally missing the point of this film. I don't fucking care. I don't give a shit about anything. Don't you get it?
Starting point is 00:47:47 Yeah. Come and fucking get me. I don't give a fuck. This guy goes, not really. I'd rather be a better version of myself than change myself to someone else. Changing yourself to be someone else completely is damaging. Ultimately, I don't like a lot of people. And I don't expect others to like me. This is a good guy. This is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is, this is,
Starting point is 00:48:18 sad, it's loneliest guys who love this movie. Yeah. He goes, but having people hate me, is better than them liking me because I'm pretending to be someone I'm not. Girls only go for night for like bad boys. I'm too nice. Yes. God. This is like the most toxic shit in the world. It is.
Starting point is 00:48:36 It's evil. All those guys are evil. Yes. This is like evil stuff. They're like say the nice guy guy that's actually very mean is the most evil thing. I can't even imagine what kind of person I would have been if I didn't, you know, meet my, you know, start. dating my wife, like, right out of high school.
Starting point is 00:48:56 Like, the kind of behavior I would have exhibited. And so, yeah, this guy goes, yeah, man, everybody wants to be a homeless bum like Tyler. Oh, shit. He replies and goes, thank you for bringing him for, this guy replies, goes, thank you for bringing people to reality. And then finally, the last quote. And that's against the philosophy of Tyler Durden. Thank you for bringing people to reality is so funny. to like go onto the YouTube page for like movie quotes
Starting point is 00:49:26 and be like I gotta argue with this guy I don't actually not not the guys in the comments section I gotta go argue with Tyler Durdin I have to like go reality check everybody Tyler Durdin is not real he's saying stuff that's not true yeah I do like the fight I do like that people fight in the comments
Starting point is 00:49:47 of a lot of this stuff too like I didn't get a lot of good fights I'm gonna read The Godfather you can act like a man clip we all remember that you're gonna like a man what's the matter with the first comment that shows before you even click the comments
Starting point is 00:50:00 is many men nowadays need this type of talk yes this guy replies and goes I see a lot of people agreeing with Vito without remembering he was a narcissistic and sociopathic killer taking scenes on his own is cute but I come to see the psychology
Starting point is 00:50:17 of the responses and they did not disappoint think of Fredo think of Fredo why don't we think of Fredo I do think of Fredo I think of the actor yeah John Casavetes
Starting point is 00:50:29 John Casselli Cazell yeah same guy right it's Casale yeah it's yeah he just he has the greatest yeah
Starting point is 00:50:39 hits only like filmography in the history if you look at it it is genuinely crazy the movies that he was in yeah it's just like dog day afternoon godfather is one and two
Starting point is 00:50:50 Yeah, and then, um, Deer Hunter. Deer Hunter, I think. This guy goes, every time I'm struggling with something. Yeah. Yeah, conversation's so good at home, man. I watched that like within the last five years and it really blew me away. This guy goes, uh, every time I'm struggling with something, I come back to this video,
Starting point is 00:51:10 no joke. Oh. Don't do that, sir. And he gets a reply and goes same. Every time someone, something bad happens to me, I remember. I remember this scene and I do what Dom Vito says. I act like a man.
Starting point is 00:51:25 I think you've tapped into something very profoundly sad and lonely with these guys. I think you've tapped into sort of like a rich vein of like really profoundly sad and lonely people at all these places. Like this little subset of the internet I find
Starting point is 00:51:42 kind of surprising. It seems strange. I think like that you're right that there is like a, a weird psychological thing going on with these people like where it's like uh uh like i don't know like they like to get yelled at i think i think it's a type of guy who especially in the in the comments of the like godfather or good fellas or something like that they feel like they need to get yelled at sometimes in order to get back on the right track yeah these are guys these are like kind of
Starting point is 00:52:18 anti-therapy, you know, where they're just like, hey, you fucking man up. You have a problem. You fucking man up and you take it head on, you know, which I guess in certain situations might be good advice, but you cannot use it across the board. You know, it is not just like a blanket thing that you can just say, this is when anything bad happens in my life, I come to this scene and I'm reminded to just act like a man. Yeah. Like that's not a good way to go through your life. This guy goes, I got rejected by my first love and came back to this video for guidance. Now I feel a whole lot better. What do you mean for guidance? For God, for all the good way that all the characters treat women in those films. Yeah. Oh, yes, of course. Yeah, go to a mafia movie
Starting point is 00:53:03 for guidance on how to have a good relationship. How do you have a good relationship with anybody, your family, your friends, women. Yeah. Totally. All right, here we go, everybody. We're going in comedy. Finally. Did you like to laugh, Maddie? Um, occasionally. Okay. After a hard day.
Starting point is 00:53:24 Oh, yeah. I'll love to sit down and have a laugh after a hard day. Have a sensible chuckle. I think you're going to love the. There's, we're going to get into the Rift City now. We're going to be leaving depressing Guy Bill and we're moving into Rift City. Where it's going to be beautiful.
Starting point is 00:53:41 There's going to be rifts. Everybody's joyous and having a good time. This is from Anchorman. I'll play it because I don't know. It's 34 seconds. I'm wondering which scene it's going to be. Well, this is only the first one. I watched this movie a hundred times.
Starting point is 00:54:00 I did too. Oh, I'm kind of a big deal, of course. I meant a woman, if you'll excuse me. Do you know who I am? No, I can't say that I do. I don't know how to put this, but I'm kind of, of a big deal. Really?
Starting point is 00:54:22 People know me. I'm very happy for you. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany. So that is...
Starting point is 00:54:38 It's crazy how how much this has been quoted and stuff. Because I think Anchorman probably is funny. Like Will Ferrell is funny and Anchorman is funny, but it's like it is. impossible to appreciate any of it at this point. I don't think you can enjoy Anchorman now in 2026 because of this sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Yeah. First comment. Quoted this line for line to my wife, the first night I ever met her, been together 10 years now and have a beautiful family. Thanks, Ron Burgundy. I mean, hey, sounds like, well, maybe she was a big fan of the movie. I think it's probably more. Maybe she's also really annoying. Yeah, she might also be an Anchorman fan.
Starting point is 00:55:21 I think Anchorman is probably more popular amongst young men, but I think it was a pretty popular movie overall. So there's a chance that, yeah, that she was just like, oh, my God, this guy's the guy for me. I love doing movie quotes all the time. And then now they, and they just do them to each other all the time. I mean, Anchorman was a- And they never, never get invited to dinner parties.
Starting point is 00:55:42 And they eat dinner alone every night. My, my, Anchorman was a turn-this-on- when all my friends are over hanging out thing. We just turn it on and have it on, you know, so that we can then pop over and be like, milk was about, like, at the parts we are really into and like explain it to each other,
Starting point is 00:56:02 why things are funny and what's, like real looser shit. Yeah. Yeah. Like analyzing Anchorman. Analyzing the comedy of Anchorman is picking apart comedy sucks no matter what, but yeah, doing it as like drunk high,
Starting point is 00:56:19 teenagers talking about Anchorman is really, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall there in Groveport. My quote that got her, milk was a bad choice. There we are. Beautiful. This guy goes, I quote this every day, greatest Riz of all time. Greatest Riz of all time. I quote this every day.
Starting point is 00:56:45 And people who are quoting Anchorman every day are generally going to be an old. older people too. So why is this older guy saying Riz? It's hard to tell. Yeah. It is really hard to tell if he is just a 19 year old. The anchorman was like a part of his life. Is is anchorman popular amongst the younger like have have they discovered it like through clips and stuff online? I wonder. I should ask. I wonder if like is like people my age obviously have like children who are like young teenagers now. And you got to wonder if it's the way that like my parents when like the naked gun was on TV, they'd be like, you've got to fucking watch this is the funny shit in the world. I wonder if they were doing that if they were doing that to anchor with their children with
Starting point is 00:57:31 Anchorman. Yeah, Brian, did you ever? I just texted Gwen and Ashton. Have you guys ever seen Anchorman? Yeah, ask them about their feelings about Anchorman. Brian, Brian does have a daughter who's 21 so that would be interested if if her generation is into anchor or if yeah if they know it they did watch i was gonna say i bet they're on like some like will feral movie you forgot existed they're all like no we all love kicking and screaming oh we were like really into my head and watson yeah what's what's the one where he puts all his stuff out the sad one he puts all his stuff out on the front lawn yeah yeah that's when i was like oh like it's such a bummer that he can't make a good movie Adam McKay.
Starting point is 00:58:17 Yeah. I mean, sometimes though it's just like, I'm sure he still could, but I mean, he made that, I couldn't even that dog shit Netflix show about the golfer. No way I'm watching that. What are you even talking about? It's called the Hawk, Maddie. And it's like, it's like just the trailer alone makes it look so crazy unwatchable that I, even as someone who I like Will Ferrell. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:40 Like, you know, I grew up watching his movies and stuff and was he. huge fan but yeah i think that it's just he's getting older too and he's like his style of comedy kind of is i don't know if maybe move past it in ways or he's just kind of aged out of it where it's like some comedians i feel like can keep doing it but he has to sort of change course now and he's just doing the same fucking shit yeah he's just doing a bunch of this guy goes a bank teller asked to see my id yesterday and this is how i replied clearly she hadn't seen the movie 100 percent true. Oh, God, that's just imagining that uncomfortable. See, that's what comedy is nowadays. It's not Anchorman anymore. It's now somebody quoting Anchorman to somebody at a bank who has never
Starting point is 00:59:28 seen it. That is now what is funny. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, she said, my daughter said, I think I only watched you and mom watch it. There you go. Exactly like Maddie said. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. She says, like, I was present but not paying attention. I was younger. Ashton's typing currently. Oh, I'd love to hear Ashton. Yeah, because he might have because he's a young.
Starting point is 00:59:55 Yeah, yeah. Ashton has actually never seen it. Never seen it, cat. That's crazy. You guys got to, they just watched Police Academy last week. Okay. Okay. Loved Michael Winslow.
Starting point is 01:00:07 Oh, Michael Winslow is it. Oh, sure. Michael Winslow is a fucking star. He's a treasure. He's a star. Actually, when I said it to him, I was like, how'd you guys like the guy that does the sound effects? And they were like, that's what everybody says.
Starting point is 01:00:20 And we loved it. Everybody loved it. Yeah. Loved it. It's timeless. It is. That is timeless comedy right there. The guy making funny sound effects.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Yes. This guy goes exactly how I hit on women. Been pretty successful so far. Been pretty successful. I don't believe it. I don't believe that even for a fucking second. I don't believe you. I don't believe you.
Starting point is 01:00:43 Yeah, I bet it works 80% of the time all the time. Oh, wait, is that 70%? Fergus says, Ron Burgundy is my hero. Again, he's meant to be like an insane ass. Like he's meant to be like, you know, like a guy who's so full of himself that he doesn't realize how other people see him. He's a stupid, like, sexist dipshit. Yeah, and he's like he's meant, he's the butt of a lot of the jokes and stuff, right? Like he's not meant to be like a cool character.
Starting point is 01:01:20 But I guess he's just Will Farrell and he's funny. Well, get ready, you two. This guy goes, uh, who is rich mahogany? Okay. Sure. And then this guy. And we're off. Michael responds to him and says, doesn't he co-star on lifestyles of the rich in leather bound?
Starting point is 01:01:40 This is some grim riffing. The grim riffer. That is the guy that shows up. The grim ripper. The grim ripper is pointing at you with his bony finger. He just always has the wrong line. Yeah. That's the guy, the guy who kills the rift, the grim ripper.
Starting point is 01:02:09 He comes in where everyone's having a good time And he's just like, yeah, yeah And then you could fuck her, right? And it's like, everyone's like, all right, we're going home. But seriously, she's hot though. The grim riffer. I love the idea of the grim riffer. Next scene we have is milk was a bad choice.
Starting point is 01:02:27 Yes. And this is, I know the quote, he's like running in the heat, right? And then he turns like having his like nervous breakdown after everything goes like in the act break of the film, if I recall. Yes. Yeah, he says, go fuck yourself, Sam from San Diego. Yeah, and he's got like, and he's just like drinking milk on the street in his full suit. Honestly, the funniest thing I had ever seen when this movie came. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:51 I haven't, I, there are a couple movies in my life where the first time I saw it, I laughed from beginning to end in such a way that I was tired after I saw the movie. Yeah, I think Dumb and Dumber was one for me when I was a little kid where I just like, I couldn't believe. believe how funny it was and this was one for me for sure too. Wayne's world when I was like 11 fucking was just like the funniest thing I had ever seen. And Gwen and Katie were watching it one night and I was like, oh, this sucks actually. Yeah, some stuff you realize some stuff is like it's just child. It's like, you know, it's really funny when you're a child and then it's not so funny when
Starting point is 01:03:33 you're an adult. First comment, milk was a bad choice. proceeds to immediately drink more milk. Oh, yeah. Now, the first reply to that, I think you're going to find very good. And it will come back later. He goes, milk was a bad choice. Proceed to immediately drink more milk.
Starting point is 01:03:58 And then Lee replies and goes, probably he was thirsty and running out of money due to being unemployed. So he made due. Let's think about this logically. I mean, let's, yeah, like, let's not be super judgmental towards Mr. Burgundy in this situation. So a little further down, a guy goes, yet he continues to drink it. And Lee comes back and he says, it's so hot out. He's so he's thirsty. Plus, he's probably running out of cash so he didn't want to buy something else.
Starting point is 01:04:32 Lee has a message. Lee is awesome. Please staying on point. Yeah. So he's like, wait a minute. Hey, he's the anchorman Clarifier is what we call him. And he's a grim riffer, actually.
Starting point is 01:04:47 Not great for the rift. It's just, it's the same problem. Right. It's the same problem, right? Because comedy is all about like surprising people. So the idea of like repeating it over and over. And the idea of like analyzing it's the same problem. It just kills it.
Starting point is 01:05:05 just explaining why he's because he's drinking milk this guy goes i wish i could go back in time and hear this for the first time again yeah i mean i get it i get that sentiment that it's just like these things that were so funny to you it's like i know people will say like i've never seen this before i remember when i was younger people would be like i'm watching this for the first time and it's like oh man that's you're so fucking lucky that you get to like experience seeing these jokes for the first time and being surprised by them or whatever it is i get this i get this i'm not going to make fun of this person i understand the sentiment gets a reply and says i want to use the eternal sunshine tech for great movies and tv shows a lot of carry a lot of jim carrie stuff
Starting point is 01:05:53 feeling good yeah and this guy this guy goes my sweet brick brick come give me a hug i know you want to and then this guy replies this grim riffer time So the first comment is My Sweet Brick, which is a quote for that scene. Then the next comment is, Brick, come give me a hug. I know I know you want to, which is another quote from that scene. And then Chris, not you, Chris, but Chris, it could be here. You don't know that. You don't know that.
Starting point is 01:06:26 Oh. Oh. Okay. It's just a weed guy guy. I don't know, weed guy get in here. Although I guess weed guys are into Anchorman. Yeah. I mean,
Starting point is 01:06:39 Anchorman is, you would have to say one of the best weed movies of all time. I mean, just really funny movies are great. If you're, you know, if you're smoking weed and shit, they're great.
Starting point is 01:06:50 It's great to watch a very funny movie with a lot of jokes, just silly jokes. Yeah. And, you know, I'm wondering myself, like, would I laugh if I watched Anchorman again? Like,
Starting point is 01:07:02 would I go crazy, for it. I probably wouldn't go crazy for it. I don't know if I would even laugh because when Anchorman 2 came out, I remember being so excited for it and then watching it and just being stone-faced. But it was horrible.
Starting point is 01:07:18 I know. It was not good. It was also not funny movie. Yeah, it was not funny, I think was the problem. I think if you went back and watched Anchorman and you hadn't heard every joke a million times, even at this age, I think you would find it funny. I mean, Will Farrell is like funny. And, you know, he's
Starting point is 01:07:33 He is. And Steve Carell is funny. You know, Paul Rudd is, they're funny. They're actually funny. I think in the end, I ended up with Will Ferrell liking the other guys a lot more. But like, uh, with Mark. I love that movie. That's such a funny movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:49 The highly unproblematic Mark Wahlberg. Yeah. Thank God they let Mark Wahlberg make that movie. Honestly, thank God. Cancel Culture didn't exist during his extreme racism era. Extreme. racist crime era where he was committing hate crimes. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:08 Well, the other guys also kind of woke, really, to be honest. I mean, that was the beginning of Adam McKay being like, you guys hear about this inequality stuff? Yeah, it is. I was just reading about this inequality. Because at the end of the fucking movie, he runs like a bunch of facts over the credits about the financial crash of like 2000. It's like a big short prequel. The end of that movie, yeah. It is.
Starting point is 01:08:36 But the movie's so fucking funny. This guy goes, King David says, one of the dumbest, most amazing lines ever. It will always have a place in my heart. And then David comes back and goes, every time it's hot as fuck outside,
Starting point is 01:08:50 I say this line. God damn it. Everyone must be like, listen, it's like it does suck that it's hot, you know, we have to put on sunscreen and we're going to be sweaty.
Starting point is 01:09:00 But the worst thing is, we're going to have to hear him say the fucking lie again. David's going to say milk was a bad choice today. Yeah, David's going to say it. We don't even have to be milk present. Nope, nope. Well, this guy goes, yeah, Alameo, the fact that milk was a bad choice is so pointless. And that is exactly why I cry laughing every time I watch this scene.
Starting point is 01:09:21 You cry every time. That's what I mean. How can you cry? How can you laugh over and over and over again at it? Like, I guess a few times there are some things that are like, so funny that I've definitely laughed up more than once, but like, me. Well, yeah, but you, you mostly, you do different stuff. Nope.
Starting point is 01:09:43 I mean, you do some of the same stuff. Every time. I got a huge big dick. Yeah, that's one of your classic jokes. It's one of his funniest jokes, Matt. It's one of my classics. He said he has a huge dick. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:57 I don't believe that. Oh, no. You would have to. I don't believe you. I don't believe you. I see, it's funny to quote movie lines. Is anybody in the comment section for Milk was a bad choice saying in it, that's how I met my wife? Yes.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Yes. This guy says, hey lady. This guy goes, quotes it again. Hey lady in the red hat. Yeah. Best line. And then he gets a reply. He goes, why didn't he say something to the lady wearing a green hat?
Starting point is 01:10:29 Great point. Good question. Great question. Is there a director's cut where we make it some red hat riffs in there as well? Well, Lee replied to that. Oh. And said he's probably drunk as far.
Starting point is 01:10:43 Probably drunk as fuck. Is that Lee the same guy? Yeah. Who's like, well, the reason that he's treated. Yeah. The guy who's just like,
Starting point is 01:10:52 listen, man, let's like, it's fun. It's fine to laugh at this, but let's fucking think about what's really going on here in this situation. It's a serious shit, man. I mean, the guy is going through a nervous breakdown.
Starting point is 01:11:04 Yeah. And we're in here fucking riffing jokes about this guy when really like milk makes sense if you're poor, you know, and you're drunk. I don't even think that's true, right? Water would make sense more if you're if you're having no money. You'd get water like tap water. He's drunk. Yeah, but he's drunk. So he's making bad decision.
Starting point is 01:11:24 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got it. He's drinking milk at the heat. It's kind of a statement about like how alcohol can kind of lead to. you know, making bad decisions. I fucking absolutely love Lee. He is one of my favorite characters at a long time. I should go back and see what else he comments on.
Starting point is 01:11:41 Okay. Okay, Brick. What? I love Lee. I love Lee. Wow. This guy goes, uh, it's supposed to be as if you randomly passed a homeless person making an observation of what most people would notice in their immediate location.
Starting point is 01:11:58 You can imagine he was probably doing that all the way. up until that point. Yeah, you can imagine that it's like the scene just started there. The cameras turned on, but he was definitely doing, like he was just doing that already. I like that to sort of extending the idea of like, what was happening before they turned the camera on? Yeah. Oh, well, I love this last comment on milk was a bad choice.
Starting point is 01:12:21 It was a study done. I'm not kidding. Look this up. Milk actually rehydrates you better than water. Uh. It might be true, but a study? I don't think that that, no, that can be, that's not true. I mean, it could be.
Starting point is 01:12:39 You don't think so? Milk rehydration. I think water has got to be, water is hydration. It's, that's what we're made up of is water. It has to be, water has to be the number one thing to hydrate you. 87%. Gentlemen, I've logged on to got to need milk.com slash hydration. and the answer seems to be according to got to need milk.com.
Starting point is 01:13:04 Yeah. Yeah. That's a grain of salt. Yeah. Hold on. Some studies suggest milk is better than water, but evidence is weak. That's from Harvard. Okay, but is Harvard?
Starting point is 01:13:17 Okay, but got going to need milk.com slash hydration. I'm interesting. Well, and it's looking like, so a 2000s, we're this guy now. We're the guy in the movie quotes saying that. that trying to prove it, that milk is more hydrating the water. Let's go to a different movie, office space. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 01:13:38 Brother. Well, we know the scene that everybody loves. It's the scene where he says, what would you do if you had a million dollars? And Dietrich Bader's character says two chicks at the same time. Mm-hmm. Funny line. When I first saw that,
Starting point is 01:13:55 it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard in my life. I couldn't believe how funny office space. Like that's a Mike Judge thing, though, because office space, like when it was in the theaters, nobody gave a shit about it. And then I watched it on, I remember when it came out to rent. And I was like, this is the funniest fucking movie in a world. I love Mike Judge until he started making documentaries. What documentary. Freaking idiocracy, maybe?
Starting point is 01:14:19 Are you talking about? First comment, the older I get, the more real this gets. Like, damn, I really. Oh, so in the scene, people. Peter, the main character, is saying, if you had a million dollars, he wouldn't do anything. He's like me. Like, I would just do nothing. I would sit on a beach and just do nothing.
Starting point is 01:14:39 On a beach? I wouldn't sit on a beach, but that's what Peter says. Okay, but you would just sit at your house or outside. I sit at my office. Yeah, you would just do nothing. But you don't like the beach. You don't strike me as a beach guy. I like going places.
Starting point is 01:14:54 Yeah, you do. A huge fan of going places. Yeah, you walk around constantly. I just before we started this podcast, I went downstairs to get my mail in which I ordered four maps of the United States. Planning a road trip. It's hard to do online. You got to have paper maps. You're going paper maps on that show.
Starting point is 01:15:16 Well, no, no. We're using the paper maps as a reference point to then use Google to take us to the places we need to go. but we don't know a lot about the part of the country we're driving in. So like we don't know where to go. But can you research for cartography guys upcoming episode? Yeah. I mean, can't you just use Google Maps though? I'm not trying to be.
Starting point is 01:15:45 It's so hard, dude. Because like you can't just have it up on the screen where you can see everything. And we have to figure out. Oh, I see. The big, you need the bigger picture. Yeah. Literally. figure out where we're going to go to where we're going to go for that time and then that next time.
Starting point is 01:16:02 You know what I mean? And we have to date. We have to be there, obviously. So, you know. When are you going? We're leaving like 10 days before we have to be in Vancouver. I see. And then we're going to come to Vancouver and stay for like five or six days. That's cool. Thank you. This guy goes the older. This guy goes same here. I get less and less ambition or outgoing as a year's progress. I'm happy as at home doing absolutely nothing. And then the guy replied that said that replied to himself and says, even doing groceries has become exhausting. Oh.
Starting point is 01:16:37 Okay. This guy has depression. Yeah, that's depression. Yeah. Hey, everybody. Hey, everybody. I'm experiencing Anadonia. What's that about?
Starting point is 01:16:48 I couldn't be more sad in my life. This guy goes only costs about $75 in Bulgaria back in 01. Okay. Okay. that's awesome information thank you this guy named woke burger 1512 said literally one of the best movies in the entire world's history I mean
Starting point is 01:17:08 and I don't think he's woke I'm saying is he is he a huge on Ron Livingston fan and his name is a reference to his character on sex in the city of Burger I had no idea but I don't think so I I mean I like Ron Living I'm a Ron Livingston guy I love him I think he's great I love him is burger on sex in the city. I've never seen, I've seen one episode of the, and that, and just like that. No, don't watch that. Well, we watched it for a show, right? Yeah, I had to do it for John and Stefan. This guy goes,
Starting point is 01:17:39 I never understood this when, when I saw this movie in high school, but now that I'm in my 30s, I've gotten to realize that doing nothing would be a paradise. Oh, here's a non-problematic response for both of you. Peter is my spirit animal. Okay. Yeah. Guy that's a spirit animal. What year is that from? That is from, actually, it's from seven years ago. See, this is the thing.
Starting point is 01:18:06 I think that that phrase was having a little moment lit at the time. Yeah, but then we had to kill it, unfortunately. We had to kill the spirit animal. We had to put the spirit animal down. This guy goes, evidently, being a millionaire is a state of mind and low self-esteem is a kind of poverty. Ah. Makes you think. That makes me, that's sort of, that's like, makes me think about Bain.
Starting point is 01:18:30 Yeah. Get ready for this guy. What if Bain was in the freaking office? That would be good. What would that be like? Think about the stuff you'd be saying. Do your work, Peter. It's time for you to go to work, Peter.
Starting point is 01:18:48 Matt, you told him that his act, that his Bain was good now. The problem is, I think you lost the Bain, dude. But now he's going to never stop doing it because he's given him that. crucial. Hi, I'm Bain. There it is. We got it. It's back. I'm Bain Michael Jackson. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:19:09 This guy goes, I became him. I quit $100,000 all year engineering job that was cush. I lived in my car for seven months in the woods for five months. Not good, not cold, just lonely. Always had food. Oh, God. Why did you do? the loneliest people in the world today.
Starting point is 01:19:28 It sounds like you had some sort of mental breakdown. Doesn't sound like things are going well. He goes, always had food, water, bathrooms after 7 a. I'm sleeping in a string hammock, YouTube movies and beer.
Starting point is 01:19:41 And no job and no rent. Just a hobo living off a $700 tax return. I don't recommend it. It was no worse than other living like divorce. Oh, I think you're leaving at a real part of the story. here guy i think there was this part of the story where he got divorced i think so he just didn't he was like it's better uh another movie that we had to cover on here uh the big lobowski
Starting point is 01:20:10 oh sure it's one of my favorites it's christ's favorite movie he wants to be the dude i used to want to be the dude when i was younger yeah he had i drank white russians and did all that stuff yeah this guy goes uh this is that's just like your opinion man yeah that's a famous quote from knowing the big labowski i absolutely know that that's the quote from the movie that everybody does yeah we did big lobowski guys and gavin kept saying it over and over yeah this guy goes this is probably the most quotable movie for everyday conversation so i thought that's the movie quote guy right yeah like because i'm always looking for like movies where I can use
Starting point is 01:20:55 because I yeah this is like Brian's friend who gets drunk it's like I don't really have a lot to say to people I don't know how to respond to them so I'm always looking at movies where I can use them they have like good quotes where I can use them in my life and learn how to talk and stuff that's true
Starting point is 01:21:10 this guy goes oof two huge rivals office space and dumb and dumber mm-hmm uh Gilbert says I am the walrus is that but that's from I think he says it in a clip. Donnie says it because he brings up Lenin, the Russian guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:30 And Donnie's like, I am the walrus. Oh, that's funny. So he goes, I am the walrus. And then it goes, edit. Damn, you almost 600 likes. Thank you. Coo-hooca-choo. Yeah, that's a huge thing that I notice on YouTube.
Starting point is 01:21:45 Because I've mentioned, I read the comments a lot on like scenes and where people are just like, holy shit man like that's why you don't mess with him like oh they made a big mistake you know telling him that one thing that made him go off like there's this guy's just imagining how badass they could be or whatever and that's a big thing is the edit 600 likes thank you very much like i don't know how to express my appreciation this is my oscar this is my Oscar quote i mean i mean I get it. It's like you don't really, maybe, they don't experience that in their life where people are like, oh, this was, this was really good. And they feel like, oh, I made a comment that a lot of resonated with a lot of people. And then he gets a reply, I am me and he is she and they are we and
Starting point is 01:22:34 we're all together. I am the egg man. I am the walrus. Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo, cacoo. And then for a riff after that, this guy goes, yeah, well, that's just like your opinion, man. Oh, yeah. And then he gets a reply that says, good reference. Yeah. It's from Big Lobowski, right? Great. That's a good reference.
Starting point is 01:22:57 Is that from the Big Loboski with Jeff Bridges? That's the quote that they're commenting on. It's so funny to be like, oh, where'd you pull that reference from? Holy shit. This guy goes, why are you thanking us for liking your comments? We liked it for what it said, not to help you out, bro. We don't know you. Oh, that's, that guy seems mean, unnecessarily mean.
Starting point is 01:23:26 He is definitely unnecessarily mean. I think we got to all of my movie quotes. Okay. Little early this week. Well, no, it's five minutes early. We're clocking out early. We're doing it because, hey, boss, is it cool if I take off early today? No.
Starting point is 01:23:44 I will, okay, I will stay around in the room and tell it out of the, 30 minutes. Just because I don't want to upset the boss. Docking your pay for asking. Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah, what's 75% of zero? You know, you guys know that.
Starting point is 01:24:01 I hope everybody does know that. No, you owe me money. That I still owe money for the computer, so I do not actually get paid. But I am close to. I want to say, I think last time I checked, I was 17 months off from getting myself into the black on my pay for the guys.
Starting point is 01:24:15 We're going to be excited. We're going to throw a little party for that. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. We'll do a live show on the day you start getting paid. Sounds good to me. Maddie, do you have anything he'd like to plug? Yeah, you can listen to my podcasts.
Starting point is 01:24:29 No Gods, No Mares and Temporal Culture War or buy one of my books. You can find me online. It's pretty easy. Do that. I saw one of Maddie's books at a bookstore and I grabbed it and I held it in my hand. I looked at Gwen and Ashley and my wife and said, I know this person. And did you buy the book? what did they say?
Starting point is 01:24:49 Actually, honestly, I kept taking it over to them and saying it over and over again. I did it like three times because they didn't reply to me. The first time they didn't like give me anything. What did they say when they finally replied?
Starting point is 01:25:05 When they finally gave me something? Oh, cool. Well, they were probably confused. They're like, if that's your friend's book, why wouldn't you support your friend and buy the book? I should have. I am sorry. I didn't buy anything that day. I mean, I think, listen, I don't, everybody knows that I can't read.
Starting point is 01:25:22 So I will not be buying Maddie's books because I can't read, but I am a big fan of Maddie. Okay, but you can still buy, you could still buy the books and not read them. I can buy it for somebody else. It's like I'll buy it for somebody else. You buy it for me? Yeah, I can buy it for you. True. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:25:38 All right. Well, we'll see you all next week. Goodbye.
