Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to guys, a podcast about guys. I'm Brian, first sequel, classic rock guys, two. And Chris is here. We got two Chris's, so that's gonna be, so hi Chris James, how are you? I didn't even insult you, fuck. Oh, that's too bad. Yeah, do you wanna? Do you wanna take it?
Starting point is 00:00:41 Can I go back and call you a Justin Bieber fan? I guess that's their big insult. Their big insult is somebody who like, because yeah, I guess, I mean, Bieber's not really like he's not the big thing anymore. Well, I think there's quite a few other, I mean, maybe Taylor Swift would be the one to go with. Yeah, I'm trying to think of like who the would be the go to weakest.
Starting point is 00:01:06 It would be hard. It's Swifty, right? It's got to be Taylor T. Swift, just because she's so big and because she's a lot of these rock guys, they're meeting her at the football games. You know what I mean? They now know about her and they're angry that they know. Why you why you girling up my football? Oh, why is there a girl on my football and like I bet you she's going to be in the parade? You know, I was.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Oh, man. I mean, introduce Chris Wade from high and introducing and Chapo. Hi, Chris Wade. How are you? I'm great. I'm happy to be back. So you guys are wrong. And I'll tell you why you're wrong. Okay. Good.
Starting point is 00:01:48 Thanks. Good start. Classic rock guys actually like Taylor Swift. I went to the Steve Moore. Remember the Steve Hoffman board from the audio files episode and the Beatles episode. Yes, I remember those. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:01 So I went there and they love her. The only person I've seen that doesn't like Taylor Swift in the classic rock space is I think you can guess who I mean, Michael Nolan, not a big fan. Well, that's what I'm saying. Like, I don't know. I mean, maybe you're right, but I also feel like there is probably a lot of hatred from classic some, a certain subset of the classic rock guys. But yeah, that is, I'd say that's cool to hear. I don't,
Starting point is 00:02:30 I don't know a ton of her music. I can't really comment. I'm not, I'm just sort of like, yeah, I, I can go. She plays guitar. She writes her song. She plays with a band, you know, like you, you can, she's, she's carry on the torch of being, you know, if I'm trying to put myself in classic rock guy mentality, you know, like you, you can, she's, she's carry on the torture being, you know, if I'm trying to put myself in classic rock guy mentality, you know, being a real musician, you know? Yeah. Yeah. She's not, not like Bieber. Maybe like a K-pop guys, like, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:57 BTS or black pink, like maybe that would be the, the current Bieber ish insult of like, Oh, you like all that, that fake stuff for little girls. But it wouldn't be like Blackpink or BTS. I think that's right. Did I say BTW or S? Anyway, it wouldn't be that, it would be specifically the K-pop.
Starting point is 00:03:21 They would never know the names. Yeah, they wouldn't know, yeah. So this is, I wasn't on the first episode. So this is one of the new jeans fan going going out there buying all the new jeans records. I don't know who new jeans is. Well, that's you're a hipster. Mm hmm. It's just a hipster. You're a hipster, Chris. I am. I am a big hipster. I know all the hot K-pop bands, like every PBR swilling hipster of the, you know, 2009 to 2013 mold.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I was just telling Chris Wade that I am going to see Chappell Rhone next month. And Chris James doesn't know who that is. He's kind of looking at me like, I don't know. That must be some new stuff. Yeah. It's like a pot. It's like a pop artist. Right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:10 I want to see her next month. Pretty cool of me. So yeah, I was trying to find the Taylor Swift. I was trying to find a Taylor Swift thread on Steve Hoffman forums because he they it was just like people were like, she's the greatest songwriter of our time and all this stuff. And I was, I couldn't believe it. And then, Oh, and then I switched over to the YouTube and I was watching our boy, Michael Nolan and Canadian Hitler and Royce in the house about, uh, Taylor
Starting point is 00:04:43 Swift and all the other guys on this thing. We're like, I like her. I think she's pretty good. Fucking Michael Nolan's like, I fucking hate her. Starts complaining about her. No good reason to hate her. You know, he's just always mad. But I did go looking.
Starting point is 00:05:00 The reason we're doing a sequel here is because they did just announce the rock and roll hall of fame inductees. And of course, Michael has not made a video yet. It was 13 days ago that they announced. I'm crazy because like for all of his passion, you know, with rock, he's just like, he never gets his shit out in like a good time, you know? Which is okay. So if we're going to get straight into Nolan, cause I was doing a little deep dive on his whole content universe. Uh, and you know, trying to just get a sense of how it all worked and like to paint the picture of Nolan's content history. And I'm sure you've gone back and done
Starting point is 00:05:41 all this. Like he started off just doing like product reviews and being like, what if you use an iPad as a second screen? Here's a review of that. It's like, you know, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. So hang on just to be well, I didn't. I didn't. Have you done? Have you already done this all on the on the show? I Chris might not have been on when we were looking at the how to video. Like is these are, those were non-music related? They weren't even, okay.
Starting point is 00:06:07 So we did that for a while, 200, 300 views. Then he started talking about the Beatles a little bit. Those go into the thousands of views. So he's like, okay, so maybe I've got a thing now. He's made 60 videos into his channel. He does one rock artist vocalist, I Can't Stand. That currently is sitting at 200,000 views. one rock artist vocalist I can't stand. That currently is sitting at 200,000 views. And that was in like March of 2022, 60-ish videos in.
Starting point is 00:06:32 So now he's got his bit, classic rocker budget. He has made 600 videos in the two years since then, which is a, just to me, even if some of them are like five minutes, a prolific output. That's incredible. But yeah, are you wondering if some of them are clips, if they're like longer videos than clipped out, but still.
Starting point is 00:06:55 There are 600 individual uploads to the channel, which I honestly, I have to say salute. That is a producer to producer. That is an incredible pace. But even having said that, so now you're telling me this guy is uploading constantly and yet he still can't be current somehow. Yeah. Like how the fuck are you constantly uploading videos and yet you're still, you're 13 or two full weeks behind on the thing that everybody's waiting for on your channel, you
Starting point is 00:07:26 know, when it's coming, he, he did the same thing when Yon Winner got fired. He just, it took for fucking ever. We had to cut bait because it was like, Jesus Christ. When the, when you look, when you're, you're forming the quality content, sometimes you have to take a little longer on the deep dives. You got to put out some, some low hanging fruit videos while you amass the research, the writing, the, get your perspective cause you know that the people are hanging waiting for your take.
Starting point is 00:07:56 No, but why don't you, but see, you know, when it's going to happen, I guess, Oh, you're saying that he's got to actually get the news. Oh yeah. And then he been writing it. Yeah. So he's you're telling me it takes him like he's sitting there like every day for like a full work day. He's retired. And obviously, and he's like, as full workday is just writing out his take that he's like erasing stuff. He's like crumpling papers. He's trying to get it just right.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Yeah. And he's also picking, you know, it's funny because we all know what he's going to say. It's not even that hard to figure out that he's going to be mad about Mary J. Blige. Oh, that is. Whoa.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Excuse me, Mary J. Blige. First off, these are the issues that Nolan's going to have with Mary J. Blige. First off, these are the issues that Nolan's gonna have with Mary J. Blige. Woman, not rock music. Or he's gonna say it's not rock music, but really he has a big problem with hip hop music specifically. But he's gonna say not rock music. And yeah, he's gonna say some misogynistic stuff as well, I would imagine. Well, let's take a look at the official announcement for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees happened on American Idol, which I think is the most incredible place to do it.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Yeah. So this is so, oh, okay. Oh, nevermind. So I didn't think it was in a serious thing, but it is. So let's read some comments on the official video from the American Idol YouTube account. And I'm only going to do one of these. So who did the announcements? Like the judges? Ryan Seacrest and Lionel Richie. Okay, Lionel Richie's like a lot rock.
Starting point is 00:09:43 He's not rock and that's a problem for me. Did you guys watch them? This is a big aside. Did you guys watch the music's greatest night documentary about the uh, uh, recording of, uh, God, what is the name? We are the world. I can't watch it. I keep like, I've told my, I know I want to watch the four part Bon Jovi, uh, uh, rock doc to music's great. Ignite greatest night is, uh, is pretty good. It's pretty slight, but pretty entertaining.
Starting point is 00:10:11 It gives you an appreciation for the, what a feat recording that song is because they literally had one night to do it. Yeah. Uh, and it makes Lyle Richie seem like a real cool guy. Uh, and mostly what I thought about is it gave me hives as a producer thinking about the guys behind the boards, staring down 40 of the most famous people in the world when you have about four hours to record this song, and just imagining like, just like having everybody ready to go and then being like, okay, I'm hearing a hum. Michael, can you, Michael Jackson, can you, can you say, can you check your mic? Okay. Not Michael, Cindy Lauper.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Is that you Bruce Springsteen? Yes. Can we hear it? At a time when they were real stars too. Like I don't think people get that famous anymore as they did back when we are the world. Unless you're Taylor Swift. There's like, there's like, there's like everything.
Starting point is 00:11:04 The inequality grows. There's fewer, there's like, there's like everything. The inequality grows. There's fewer, but they're like somehow even more famous. I don't know how you could compare like Taylor Swift to Michael Jackson, but God, I mean, the total cultural saturation of Taylor Swift, you know, it's certainly rivaling, uh, you know, some of those guys at their peak. Very rare. So I'm only going to do one of these, a guy that's listing bands that aren't in because it's, I think I've, I've found him and I'm like, listen, okay, he goes, some of these inductees
Starting point is 00:11:30 are just crazy considering all those who are not yet in the Hall of Fame. Like here comes here. Let's hear Jim Croce. Sting Huey Lewis and the news. Phil Collins, Motley Crue. Phil Collins is again in with Genesis. Yeah, yeah. Motley Crue, InXS, Billy Idol, Don Henley, in with the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Yeah. Deserve it. I mean, come on, Don. Queensryche, which is a band that is never getting in ever. Like, I can't, Queens, right? Is Queens, right? Like a white supremacist band? No, it might not be, but he's got that name, you know? Yeah. The optics are not going to be good for that.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Yeah. You can't be putting right. Really in your name. You know, they're like a Prague kind of metal kind of a, uh, uh, science fiction. I'm into Prague. Oh, yeah. They're big silent lucidity and it's off the album operation mind crime, I believe. So that's the kind of people, people are really gonna, there's gonna be a lot of comments like making fun of me for thinking that Queens, right? Cause a white supremacist,
Starting point is 00:12:47 but the next one's even more outrageous rat. I mean, I vote for rat over Queens. I mean, the problem is at this point, this deep in the rock and roll hall of fame, both the inductees and anybody complaining about who is not inducted equally sound like you just went up to a random person and was like, okay, like doing the Billy on the street thing for $10 named 10 bands. If whatever comes to mind. Cause this guy gets crazy. I'm telling you, mega death tool, the cranberries,
Starting point is 00:13:20 manna, smashing pumpkins. I don't even know what that is. I had no idea. That's just a band he knows. That might be his band. It might be his band. Maybe if I slip that in there, people will look up. He slides it in the list.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Yeah, just to get a couple of Google searches. Now here we go. Now we're gonna get into some Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, Korn, Kid Rock, S'Water, Mike and the Mechanics. I'm starting to be able to picture this guy, kind of what he looks like. Starship, Pantera, Docken, Tears for Feet. This is a lot of bands. like, docken tears from fear.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Like there's a lot. This is a lot of bands. But like 90% of them you could imagine on any nominee list for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I mean, yes, yes, you have made a list of 20 relatively popular bands. Corn will get in there. If you let this thing run long enough, almost all of those bands will eventually get in there. They don't get in. Almost if you let this thing run long enough, almost all of those bands will eventually get in. But you can't be.
Starting point is 00:14:28 They're not going to let a guy and band and this guy, a guy called the monkey monkey, not the monkey. You can't have a guy called the monkey. They're how about this? Are the monkeys in the rock and roll? No, they are. They're too silly. The rock and roll Hall of Fame? No. They are. They're too silly. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is 100% serious. Serious, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:50 They were serious musicians when they got a little out of the studio system. Yeah, but everybody remembers them for their goofiness and all of their silliness and their hilarious sitcom sit, sit, sit, calm, you know, that they were on there. That I, that by the way, I watched when I was younger, I love the monkeys TV show. Uh, the movies movie is legitimately one of my favorite movies from head. Yes. Yeah, they're good. They're like funny. Like some, they were good actors. A few of them, like a few
Starting point is 00:15:21 of them weren't, but a few of them were. He goes, he goes tears for fears. Iron maiden, twisted sister, Eddie money, quiet riot motorhead. I think Boston sticks, Ted Nugent, the Jay Giles man and the Commodores and on and on. So there are some in there, but there are also some in there that will never like, I, I don't know if kid rocks ever going to get in. I guess if you're doing a rock and roll hall of fame, he deserves to be in, but it's what he's a big, big star that's made some cool shit. I mean, have you ever heard devil without a cause? I mean, I don't know. I don't think kid rock. There's just,
Starting point is 00:16:04 there's a lot of, I know, of course I don't like Kid Rock. Also my mom. There's just, there's a lot of, I know, of course, I don't like Kid Rock and I don't like his, I find him to be a pretty detestable person. I'm sure we all do. We wouldn't want to hang out with him, but it doesn't mean he's not a good musician. I'm trying to not let that cloud it up too much, but I just feel like there's a lot of musicians who,
Starting point is 00:16:21 what's the Hall of Fame? It'd be just the best of the best. I don't who like, what's the hall of fame? What could be just the best of the best? And I don't feel like he really is like the best of a generation in a genre or whatever, you know, it should be safe. I don't think he's hollow. If everybody gets in, then nobody's special is what exactly, exactly. But I guess to give these guys like an ounce of credit, though the rock and roll hall of fame complainers, uh, that the,
Starting point is 00:16:46 editorial vision for the rock and roll hall of fame is so vague and uncertain that it is at a certain, like, it's not like I don't think any of these people deserve, don't deserve to be honored like that Mary J. Blige doesn't deserve to be in there, but the filter is so unclear that it really, you can just be like who should be in the rock and roll hall of Fame? I don't know. Dead boys, dire straights, black crows, hopefully named bands. You know, it doesn't name a band that people have heard of.
Starting point is 00:17:14 And yeah, that's like the main, I think we talked about it on something else. That's like the main actual function of a Hall of Fame. Yeah, is to like have just online arguments or like argue about who should and shouldn't be in there. You know, that's kind of Yeah, like just a male. It's and so somebody points out something very interesting. They go you only mentioned one black group stop with your white love. So he responds to that. Oh, seven dust only became eligible. Lenny Kravitz has been eligible for nine years, not as long as
Starting point is 00:17:55 some, but also should be in the same goes for living color. But honestly, there are fewer black artists and rock than many other genres. I also didn't really get into the many Latin rock groups I'd like to see inducted like heroes del silencio, manna, and anitos verde. You did say manna. You did say manna, yeah. He's just saying, did you notice I said some Latin people, which makes it so I can't possibly have any racist feelings.
Starting point is 00:18:18 Yeah. Yeah, I mean, he's right. There are less people of color in rock. I mean, yeah, I mean, he's he's right. There's there are less, you know, people of color and rock. I mean, it's getting better now, but it was it was obviously a white dominant. It was sort of a white thing that was stolen from people of color. Right. And then sort of in, you know, in the modern day was, yeah, predominantly, it's a bunch of fucking classic white boys, you know? I mean, no offense to Lajon witherspoon, but going with seven dust for your first go to black artists should be inducted into the rock of all fame is kind of crazy.
Starting point is 00:18:56 It's so good. This guy goes. They should change the name to the all genres Hall of Fame. Literally, literally, literally, there's hip hop and R and B added to the group. They might as well add country classical and opera to the mix too. So many rock groups from the 70s. What they should next year's nominee, Mozart. I would, I would love that.
Starting point is 00:19:21 He goes, so many rock groups from the seventies and eighties haven't been inducted yet. And it seems they only make the cut if they're really old or passed away. Really sad. So then I find this guy, Michael Spillman, five two, two zero. And he goes, it's well-matched. It's well past time for us to say congratulations to Neil Sadaka. And then he finds it from Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it. And then he comes back right after that and he goes, they should hold the
Starting point is 00:19:48 induction ceremony annually on April 1st. Then we could all have a good laugh from Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it. Oh, he's proud of his hall of fame for fools because all they induct are fools. Did they have, did they go back? Does, do they have like blues musicians in there? Do you know what I mean? So they do. So then if that is the case, then that is true. That person could have added more people of color to their list. If they just went back to like, you know, um, yeah, like blue, like early, early rock music. This guy goes, congrats to those who made it.
Starting point is 00:20:27 No shot a Mariah or Eric being rock him. So John Woodward replies and he goes, I didn't know they were rock and rollers. I think this is just constantly. They just some people and we know one of them, Michael Nolan, you just need to, you need to get over the fact that yes, it is not just rock music in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And if you're not able to get past that point, you can't participate in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame anymore.
Starting point is 00:20:57 I'm sorry. It's just, it's already been agreed now that there's hip hop in there, there's fucking country music, there's all kinds of different fucking music Well, this guy has a question He says when will the rock and roll hall of fame start putting edm artists in the hall of fame? It's a good question. They should yeah, they probably will it's not a g should be in there. Yeah, why don't yeah?
Starting point is 00:21:17 Why the frill x is getting in? Uh, and and uh, so let's check in with michael here He's he's got a question and we'll just let him here Hey everybody. I noticed today that he always goes like this. Hey everybody and I stood up on his chair Every time it's the same movement. Welcome to the bottom line. I'm Michael Nolan tonight We're gonna be asking a very important question. No, we're not a question that has Validity is known on both sides of the fence. No, you've never asked a question That is important has validity never none of the shit you talk about is man. Yeah, no Yeah, no, he's nice shirt though. That's a shirt. I'm glad this isn't the stream. So somebody doesn't mail me that shirt
Starting point is 00:22:04 I mean that shirt. I mean, that shirt is that shirt is pretty good. His hair is looking pretty. When is this from? Is this a new new video? Three months. Oh, so pretty new. The setup's looking good. I like the mood lighting. He's I mean, he's he's he for guy his age doing it. He's he's got the the whole aesthetic down, You know? Yeah. I wonder if he might have help from a younger relative or something because-
Starting point is 00:22:29 I'd go help grandpa with his YouTube channel. Yeah, just because honestly, he does seem his audio's pretty good and stuff too. Like he seems to have it figured out, like not the content itself. He was in a band though, he rocked out. He's got the recording stuff set up. I know. I figure he knows he knows how to do the chords. That's true. That makes
Starting point is 00:22:49 yeah. That makes sense. He did play in a band and it's very good. If you haven't heard it, just go find it. You'll love it. Wonderful. My monkey or little monkey. The song is wild. Let's hear what he's got. What important part? If you listen to his music, for all those who don't watch the stream because we've listened, it changes so much all the stuff he's saying. When you hear what his idea of him trying to do music, and then you're like, all of a sudden,
Starting point is 00:23:22 come back and start listening to his opinions, and they just paint them in a much different light. Yeah. Yeah, and of course that question is is Rock and roll dead Old intro old intro. Oh, yeah There he is walking on the beach. He has white shirt. Look at all right guys So first of all, I want to thank everybody that participated in my poll with that exact same question.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Uh, if you haven't had a chance to respond to that, I'm going to leave it up. Hope. So now keep that in mind. Over 1300 of you responded to that poll and at the time of recording this video 81% of you have voted no there's still hope with 19. That's good. 81% of his audience believes that Rock's not dead. They're positive.
Starting point is 00:24:21 And is he going to tell them that they're wrong? He's going to say a bunch of crazy Michael stuff. Percent of you saying bury the damn thing. All right. So that's what I'm going to be addressing in this video. First of all, we're going to take the side of yes, indeed, rock and roll is dead and why people who voted for that think so. Now there is an abundance of evidence for this side of the argument.
Starting point is 00:24:50 First of all, you've got classic rock bands touring and they're not even the classic rock band that they're claiming to be. Well, that's true because they're all 80, but they're too old, man. There's new musicians now It's almost like the old freaks like you the demand that they you're you continue to pay these huge fees for tickets Like that's the problem. If you just stopped going out to their fucking shows, then they would stop touring, you know Well, that's what's funny. I did get some ticket master reviews But for classic rock guys the ticket master reviews are all about how expensive the tickets are because they're fucking crazy to go.
Starting point is 00:25:29 It is. It is crazy right now. And especially the bands that like don't try to do anything that are explicitly out there, just not trying to do anything about like the ticket master, like dynamic pricing and stuff. Like some groups go out of their way to like try to deal with that shit and preempt it and try to bring the things down. But I'm sure a ton of these legacy acts are like Ticketmaster. How high can you get these
Starting point is 00:25:51 prices? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bruce Springsteen. I mean his tickets like Michael complained about him because there were $5000 for like, you know, the best up front. Yeah. Yeah. But I mean, you know those tickets have always been out of reach for regular enough. 5000. I know, but they've always 5000 or 500. It's always like out of reach.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Yeah. Yeah. Let's check in the Rolling Stones band. That is a classic rock band that is still touring and that is awesome. I'm a big fan. Ziggy stardust in all capital letters says, oh my God, can you believe they are still alive?
Starting point is 00:26:31 I literally believe in God now. This is the best thing in the world. I get to go to the Seattle concert and I think it will be the best night of my life. I can definitely get satisfaction now. Oh, wow. That's cool. That's a reference to one of the songs
Starting point is 00:26:50 some people listening might not have got that, but that's, I like his name too. That's also a reference. These are comments on the Ticketmaster site? Yes. Why is there a comment option on Ticketmaster? Well, there is, Chris. Is that only just a siphon abuse away from actual help hotlines? Well, I think it might have been under that.
Starting point is 00:27:12 It could be that it also could have been created specifically for this podcast. It feels created for this podcast because every time we look at them, I mean, just a couple of weeks ago, we read a review from ticket master of Steve Aoki. Oh yeah. A guy paid 25 extra dollars to get in and he was mad because the buffet they had only had cold cheap beans. Sheep beans at the buffet.
Starting point is 00:27:38 They were cheap. It was a buffet at the studio. $25 more for the buffet. It's like a big thing. But it'd be fine if the B if they spent the money on the bean. If you're not satisfied with the beans, just get front and center and he'll throw a cake in your face. Well, sometimes, sometimes he will and sometimes he won't.
Starting point is 00:27:57 And that's actually a big problem as well for some people. Sometimes it goes on way too late to. And people are like, I thought he's going on at nine and he goes on at midnight because I guess they've never heard of a DJ. This guy goes greatest rock and roll band in the world since Altamont when Hellzain. Was that the moment when he was like, Hey, now I'm in town. These guys got me interested. That's a long time ago as well. That's the incident where the people are killed by the angels. And he says, since Altamont, when hell's angel Alan Pissarro put a knife and Hunter, the
Starting point is 00:28:34 drama of the stone started. They've always been the bad boys, a rock and roll. He's calling the bad boys of rock and roll because a guy got killed at their car. That's true. They are known as bad boys. Psychotic. Who was also that when they had that show in Cleveland where a bunch of guys got that was in Cincinnati. Those are the bad music spinner. My dad likes the who and I'm like, why weren't you there?
Starting point is 00:28:59 And every time I ask him why he wasn't at a concert, he's like, because I had to work like I asked him about Woodstock. He's like, two of my friends went to Woodstock. I didn't go cause I had to work. He's working at a department store. It's like you quit your job, brother. Uh, anyway, he goes, uh, nothing's changed. They still showing us that they are who they are with class at 80. Mick can run circles around any other front man in the business. Look for another Grammy or two for these guys. Fuck Taylor Swift. Haven't missed a show ever. Levi stadium sucks for sound and that two bite hot dog is $8 Levi policies and rules suck as well. Curfew and no fireworks.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Not the stones fault. Thanks York and Levi dedicated to Charlie Watch the baddest stone of all. We will meet again. My brother. I don't think this guy's ever met him, but that was what he rest in peace though. You know, so the so the arc of that comment is I I got turned on to the stones when somebody got murdered at one of their concerts. That's when I started paying attention. And also they remain the classiest band in rock music, even though I like them for the fan murder.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Yes. Well, that's also the two by two by hot dog is eight dollars. Yeah. Well, expensive for if I'm paying eight dollars, I want minimum four bytes on my dog. Yeah. Well, here's a problem in Austin was the traffic. And this guy goes, you can't one star. He gives the Stones one star.
Starting point is 00:30:36 He goes, you can't always get what you want. Oh, I was so excited to go to the concert, but as the stones have famously said, you can't always get what you want. Oh, I don't know about that. I think that you can't use it twice so quickly. Like I don't think he can feel so strongly about that. That you're like putting it in the title and then like it's a, it's a decent line, but I don't know that it needs a double up
Starting point is 00:31:05 he goes This given him one star when you hear what his night was is so good He goes the venue is only 30 minutes from my house and after three and a half hours Stuck in traffic and still stuck a mile out from the venue. I decided to give up. This is He didn't even see it. He went home This is an atrocious venue with no traffic management plan, literally never going to another event there ever again.
Starting point is 00:31:31 So that would sad. The guess though the guess who have been out on tour recently. Yeah, I know. I know them. They're Canadians. Yeah, Outrider says don't give me no hand to me now now band. Unless Bachman and Cummings are playing it's not the real guess who I was fooled by false advertising several years ago by this tribute band who despite legal challenges continue to use the
Starting point is 00:31:56 original group name. Rain might do a good imitation of the Beatles, but at least they don't claim to be real McCoy. Nobody sings like Burton Cummings. So that guy bought a ticket. And unfortunately for him, you know, he doesn't like them, I guess. Well, that's not what that would piss me off to, though. You know what I mean? If you think some of these people, they're not doing full research on it.
Starting point is 00:32:20 They're just like, hey, this band that I love is fucking coming out on tour. And then you go to the show and it's some different guy. You're like, you know, you're like, what the fuck? Crazy. Like, yeah, I don't feel like you should know though. Yeah, you're right. You're right. You should. But that's for like a hardcore fan. If you're not a hardcore fan, if you're just like, you liked growing up and you're like, they were like a big band for you and you see maybe your wife Buys you the tickets. Yeah, you know like Father's Day or something cuz she knows that you're a big fan And then you show up and no fucking Burton. Yeah, that's the real That's the real expert move there is when you see when you see a band where you know The members are like over 60 the first thing you got it is touring you The first thing you got to do is go, who's even in that band
Starting point is 00:33:07 right now? You got it. Yeah, you got to go to that Wikipedia current members portion of the Wikipedia. Yeah. Me and a friend and fan of the show, Matthew Perpetual, we're just talking about this. The bands that can support two versions of the band right now, like the fact that there are two sublimes currently going sublime with the original singer's son and sublime with Rome and they can both sell out a set effectively like arenas at the same time. Like I just love that the market can support two sublimes at the same time. Like that is sublime that people demand journey is is isn't Journey one of those bands that like
Starting point is 00:33:46 multiple journeys. Yeah, there's endless amount. Or yeah. So I found rate your music. Have you guys ever heard of rate your music before? Yeah, I have not. I have. Of course. Of course. I'm a huge music head. I've heard of it. I go on it every every weekend.
Starting point is 00:34:01 I go do my always rating rating. Rate your music check check I see how everything's rated I put my ratings in of the things I've listened to it's uh yeah it's well it seems like it was in much like the ticket master reviews it seems like it was just a website invented for this show because it is where regular people can go and write reviews of albums. And I looked at it and I looked at, we sold our souls for rock and roll,
Starting point is 00:34:29 which is a black Sabbath greatest hits album. And this guy goes three stars, my first black Sabbath album that I bought. And it'll probably be the last. The songs aren't really that bad, like Iron Man and fairies wear boots. The beat is much too slow for me. Can't really do anything with this kind of music these days.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Sorry, that line is very strange and I can't. You're doing with it before. Like, what were you? What were you allowed to do with it before that? You're not able to do it now due to wokeness. Like, I think it sounds like this person to do with it now. Do the wokeness. Like I did. It's it sounds like this person has moved on from the music rather than the music moving on from him. They want to dance to the music. It sounds like because you know, I can't like
Starting point is 00:35:14 it's too slow. They were mentioning they were mentioning like, you know, so maybe they want to be dancing to it and they used to be able to maybe and now they can't. But I don't know. I don't just make sense. I think they think that old people back in the 70s would dance to this. Like there was a dancing version of going to the show. And he's like, like, we just don't do those moves anymore. Maybe it's smoking weed. Well, this guy did a bad review of bad company.
Starting point is 00:35:47 Oh, yeah. He goes, I can't get enough of listening to better bands. Bad company. You know what? When I want to rock steady, I'll just listen to someone else. Like the Stooges, the stones or the replacements. They don't let me down. I'm like bad company who really are bad company.
Starting point is 00:36:05 And yeah, I know. Shit. Telling bad company a guess what your name is appropriate. And yeah, I know this is supposed to be a classic, but I do things the way I choose. So fuck you. Oh, shit. What's this guy's name? Does he does have names? A new land new finu land. And this guy's like, I know you're not supposed to be this way, but I frankly don't give a fuck. I love this guy's fucking attitude.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Can you say that line again? He goes, they don't let me down like Unlike Bad Company, who really are bad company. And yeah, I know this is supposed to be a classic, but I do things the way I choose. So fuck you. We've got the original bad boy of 70s British Hard Rock reviews. This motherfucker has got a bruiser written all over. He is a bruiser. He's definitely a bruiser.
Starting point is 00:37:04 This guy's like, guess what? I don't give a fuck. What? He is so. I'm moving on. I've flown away from this type of thing, like a seagull. And I would be very happy. The rest of the world did the same. Well, don't I mean, that's okay. I, he doesn't even want it around anymore. He got ready for ready for love is a hell of a song though. It must have ended up there by accident. I mean, I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. I'm not okay. I he doesn't even want it around anymore He got ready ready for love is a hell of a song though. It must have ended up there by accident truck picks ready for love So I thought I flew away from this like a seagull is pretty badass though I'm just like
Starting point is 00:37:42 Wishing that it had like that the rest of the world would leave it away. Are you really so in you dated by bad company, by bad company that it's like oppressively present? I'm like going to department store without hearing bad company. Do you have to listen to bad con you have to, I mean, I guess if you're listening to the radio on the classic rock stations, which don't even really exist in most play, well, you're playing sound garden on the classic rock stations. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:10 They're not playing as much bad company as they used to. Yeah. It's not really a big thing. Like nowadays, if nowadays, these days, if people, people say bad company, they think they're talking about Enron. Fair enough. That is these days. This guy goes, I can listen to Cheap Trick, I can listen to Zeppelin, I can listen to, I don't know, Big Star, if I would want this and a little bit more of a Power Pop flavor.
Starting point is 00:38:37 So why the hell should I listen to this? Why? It's boring. Straightforward rock can work. This is just a straightforward snore. No standout melodies, riffs, whatever it is you're looking for. There's a reason why these guys aren't listed among the classic hard rockers anymore.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Wait, wait, wait, wait. It's Austin. He's talking about Bad Company? Yeah. What happened? Like at some point they'd sort of like, cause they're just considered, they are considered a classic rock band.
Starting point is 00:39:06 I mean, they're very well known rock band. I don't think they're... Like something can't happen to them now. I think they've established their place in history as like a classic rock band from that era. I don't think they can... People can be like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:39:19 We were wrong about Bad Company. We actually fucking hate them, unless something maybe happened, you know? So, this is the greatest thing about Rate Your Music is that like a 17 year old could also write a review of Bad Company. He goes, the really horrible thing about the 1001 albums list is that the guy who made is very clearly very boring but self-important white boomer dad who wears socks and sandals and takes CBD gummies to go to sleep. For this reason you're... Hey, hey, hey, that last one, come on. Some of us need a little help getting there. And also, also that's who's gonna make a classic rock list. That's the
Starting point is 00:39:57 exact guy who's gonna sit down and make a thousand fucking manned classic rock. Also, isn't that a thousand and one albums list pretty expansive? A thousand one is a lot. And I'm sure they're naming a thousand and one albums. You're you're going to like you're going to hit a lot of things off the beaten path. Yeah, you couldn't possibly just stick to one genre in one era, you know, like, just by the fact that there's so many albums, you're going to have to be a little bit eclectic with it, you know? I mean, yeah, I'm looking at somebody put a list, a list of this together in the first four or five or
Starting point is 00:40:34 10 CC 13 floor elevators to POC 50 cent 808 state like right there. That's like a pretty broad smatter spattering of things. Once I close my door problem. He yeah, he I will wait for Chris to come back because I'm telling you, this guy has this guy gets really in there. Like I'd like the idea of teenagers reviewing albums with 50 year olds too. You know what I mean? I'm all in the same place.
Starting point is 00:41:00 He goes, uh, for this reason, you're forced to slog through about a hundred, very forgettable seventies rock albums about a guy who wants to have a lot of sex, but they don't let you say sex on the radio yet. So while the lyrics are like, Oh woman, I want to rock you. I want to love you. I'll go this album, just like all the Neil Young's and Aerosmiths on here is taking space for much more deserving artists. Like, excuse me, you You say Neil Young, Neil Young is that's a low blow for all.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Neil Young is a fucking legend. What are you talking about? Now we're mad. That's you got to have discipline when you're talking about these guys. Neil Young is a legend. How dare you everybody in Canada just collectively fucking spat at you. That's despicable talk We won't we won't accept that. That's like thing Gord Downey is Not a legend Gord Downey is not a legend. Let's check back in with Michael here Foreigner and kiss come to mind. Kiss half of Kiss is not up there.
Starting point is 00:42:08 They have two ringers and they've had ringers before. And of course, Foreigner with Mick Jones not even showing up anymore. First of all, first of all, and about Foreigner, I don't talk bad about Foreigner. We don't talk bad about Foreigner. We don't talk bad about Mick Jones specifically. We don't say anything like that because he's the only classic rock guy that we have a connection to on the podcast. Because former guests, Nate Roos, it's his father-in-law.
Starting point is 00:42:39 So I really want to get him back on so that we can celebrate that. Because because Chris, you're you're not going to believe this, but Nate Roos from the band Fun really likes Michael Nolan and agreed with him. Oh, yeah. Most of what he said on the episode. He did. Weird turn here. Let's really there isn't an original member in that band. Now, this gets to the point of ticket prices.
Starting point is 00:43:04 Ticket prices have gone sky high and we have a host of people to blame for that. Ticketmaster, Live Nation, the artists themselves. We've covered that on this channel many times. And through all this nonsense, And through all this nonsense, many artists, original fans can no longer afford to go and see. Now, think about it. A lot of these artists, original fans are cutting back on going to concerts. I want to see Paul McCartney, but that means I'm going to not see Jethro Tull. I don't think anybody's choosing Jethro T Tall over Paul McCartney, I would say. Well, I did have the chance to see Jethro Tall in the last year, which I took because they're definitely a bucket list band.
Starting point is 00:43:53 I did not have to choose between Paul McCartney. Got to say though, Ian, Ian, you disappointed me. It was a very, very broad and eclectic show with very, very few of the classic Jethro Tal hits. And I think at your guys' age, you got to be hitting some of the big ones in there. You can't be coming out and playing the new album when you're 78 years old. Yeah. And the arrangements of the classics were, you know,
Starting point is 00:44:25 because he's a composer guy. They were very flipped and inverted and stuff. And there was very little recognizable there. It was kind of a difficult listen. And then also, there was a very ham-fisted political allegory song in about Ukraine at the time, which was a bit of a tough hang. That, with that, I see. I would love that. Sure. So old. How
Starting point is 00:44:48 old are they? Sorry. Sorry. How old? How old would you say they are? At least mid 70s of not getting up towards and was it was it noted like did you was it noticeable that as well that they were not like I mean, I'll I'll I'll I'll question the compositions in the setlist, but Ian can still shred that flute. Okay. See that I'd like to see live. Yeah, that's cool.
Starting point is 00:45:12 This younger fans and what are they paying for? They're paying for the hits. They're paying off. He's got me. He's got the number. But it doesn't just stop there, folks. See, these bands that are on perpetual tour, they see absolutely no reason whatsoever to write new music. This is his big, he talks about this a lot and what he's doing is he's mixing up
Starting point is 00:45:43 these tribute acts or whatever. know what I mean these like people who are just touring around like no man they're not making new music you're right they're 78 years old they're fucking they're going they're touring because they can still make money some of them still like doing it or whatever but no these are not there's newer acts that are making music and touring. You just aren't interested in them because you're living in a different time
Starting point is 00:46:10 when your life was better and you still wanna be in that time. So on amazon.com, they were selling a CD, a double CD of classic rock songs called Classic Rock Gold. Nice. It Nice 20 bucks. And, uh, you know, it's got born to be wild, evil ways. I'm not going to name them all, but you know, it's got all the Frankenstein by the Edgar winter group Saturday nights.
Starting point is 00:46:34 All right for fighting. Let's take a look at a review here. Uh, five stars, great tunes, very well remastered. This is a great two CD set of classic gold rock, very diverse offerings of songs from different subsets of rock and roll. Many of these tunes were originally mastered for the radio and therefore had an elevated treble and upper mid-range making them rather quote in the face sounding unquote. Due to excellent remastering that nastiness is all gone. All the sound is there just as much more listenable.
Starting point is 00:47:10 You can turn this disc up in a car on a nice stereo rig and it'll sound great. Oh, yeah. And then what you put your little fucking special little beads on your wires. Like an audio file dipshit. I can spot an audio file. Well, then Kevin P is the next review. One star. Great list. Horrible fidelity. If you're a fan of compressed music more so than you'd hear on the radio, then this is for you. He's mad. So now between these two, my only question is about the fidelity of the songs. I need to hear these guys debating. I need to hear it with my own ears, but then I don't know that I can trust my own ears. So I would want to hear these guys a comprehensive debate between them about whether or not it's good or not.
Starting point is 00:47:53 Yeah. You tell me you've got a two CD collection of some top CD, some top classic rock bangers. I expect every review to be like, cool, great, great set list, or I wish they had this, but if you give me two reviews and one says great fidelity and one says bad fidelity, then what can I do with this? I need to ask, I need to ask a question. Isn't there an ask a question in the Amazon thing? Well, four people found the bad one helpful and one person found the good one helpful.
Starting point is 00:48:23 And I will say this, Let me give you names. Let me give you names to the guy that said a great tunes very well remastered. His name is Hi-Fi man 5. I assume he at least has a high five the horrible fidelity guys name is just Kevin P. I'm going with high five high five and five high five. Yeah, high five is five. Hi, hi. Yeah. Hi, five. He's got it.
Starting point is 00:48:51 He goes, uh, he goes, uh, I'm completely disappointed and downright mad to LCD manufacturers, stop ruining our music. Make compilations from the original master tapes. They don't need EQing or compression. You've destroyed a great collection of material. Let me put it another way. You'll make a lot more money if you stop wasting time remastering. You aren't doing anyone any favors. Bottom line, if you want high fidelity, don't buy or buy into remastered CDs. Sorry, but that's the truth. Take it from a former
Starting point is 00:49:16 recording studio owner operator. Oh, is that Kev? Thickens. Yeah. Kevin has some credentials at the end of the day. He does talk the talk. Sure. Yeah. Possible to know. Rick Lightburn gives it four stars and says, I like most of the songs, not all, but that's my opinion. Other than that, I would have given it five stars. Thank you. Yeah, they are fair. Listen, I appreciate him telling us it's only his opinion about the songs. He doesn't wanna hurt any of the feelings of I'm not saying it's bad. The music, you know, uh born to be wild. It's just not my thing.
Starting point is 00:49:55 This guy. Some eclectic picks on here. We've got Red Rider and Golden Earring sandwich in between, you know, your Doobie but Brothers and Blue Oyster and blue oyster called. Somebody here had put their foot down and said, No, we got to get that Red Ryder track on it. We need to know what the fidelity is. Unfortunately, we're never going to know. This person just says a good variety, five stars, good variety of song and an artist.
Starting point is 00:50:21 I play this while driving on the interstate keeps me from being bored. Wow. Shit. I can this while driving on the interstate keeps me from being bored. Well, shit, I can just see that. Get your motor on it. Well, you know, on the highway, you know, like if I could rev it up to Camaro, hell yeah, I bring that. That's about the best, like the best review that you could give a two CD compilation of classic rock.
Starting point is 00:50:43 I listen on the highway, keeps me from being bored. What else? What else do you fucking need? That is, see, that's what I like. If I ran a classic rock travel channel, like Michael Nolan, that would be my review is, is being like, uh, leds up on four, keeps me from being bored. Good album. Makes me a little bored. Bad album. I've always found it very like for me I've always found it very strange that people would buy
Starting point is 00:51:10 something like this like Like it just these songs are not hard to hear like if you have a radio and you play it If there's a classic rock station in your town again I think like is it New York that doesn't have a rock station at all anymore. I'm not sure. I will be honest. I did not spend a tremendous amount of time in New York listening to the radio. Nobody does FM radio anymore, but I think there are big markets that don't even have a rock station anymore.
Starting point is 00:51:40 And you know, if you want Michael Mullen probably has some feelings about that. And if you want, Michael Mullen probably has some feelings about that. But that would be something that I would like his thoughts on is like the radio landscape of 2024 because he is a specific market that is being actually underserved by a mass commercial media entity. So I think that that is a legitimate grievance by a guy like him. You know, you can't turn on the dang radio and hear some freaking classic rock anymore. And we don't want to hear that. If we hear Bad Company and we want to fly away like a seagull, unfortunately, that's a problem.
Starting point is 00:52:17 Just get out of the fucking music. Just get out of the fucking music. This guy, yeah. You listen to whatever you fucking want. The official Rock and Roll Hall of Fame comments had two comments I found very fun and then guy goes rock and roll hall of fame has a lot of pop disco rap country polka but very little rock and then Eric McNeely replies and he goes you mean the pop disco and liberal music hall of fame I fixed it for you. Liberal music hall All fans. I, you know, that Michael is also very much.
Starting point is 00:52:48 I don't know if you know this, but Michael is very angry about communism. Uh, I saw you posted some clips and yet here he is complaining about ticket prices. Should we not socialize the cost of going concerts? Michael, let's hear him because that's not what the people who are paying to see them want to hear. They want to hear the glory days of rock and roll. So much so, by the way, that now the hot new ticket item are Avatar shows. We get to see dead Elvis perform right in front of us dead to pack and then he explodes in glitter I have no I didn't know that you could
Starting point is 00:53:36 see dead to park now he might have he might be talking about that one that was so long ago though right it was like was like, was it? Was it Coachella? Yeah, it was Coachella. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hologram Tupac? I think that's what he's talking about. Is there an actual hologram Elvis tour?
Starting point is 00:53:54 Cause that is kind of ghoulish. I would see it. I would actually go watch that. I love Elvis, man. I love that guy. Ever since I took so many mushrooms and watched the Elvis movie and couldn't stop laughing at Tom Hanks. I've been a huge Elvis fan.
Starting point is 00:54:09 Yeah. I'm looking up Elvis avatar show, Elvis evolution. He goes, Oh, this evolutions. You haven't even seen my final state. I guess you feel like you haven't even seen my final state model. Just he goes, uh, here we go. Announcing Elvis evolution, a major new immersive experience, celebrating the world's biggest star of stage and screen.
Starting point is 00:54:31 You'll step through iconic and intimate moments from his career on world layered reality, the UK's leading immersive specialist is set to launch Elvis evolution in London in 2004. Oh, you know what I saw last time I was in Vegas, I saw an ad for this show for doing a Michael Jackson show, do it, doing this stuff where it's, it's like some kind of technological, some bulk room of Michael Jackson's greatest hits. Yeah. Cause he says Elvis evolution will use state of the art, multi-sensory
Starting point is 00:54:58 technology, including VR AI and holographic project projection to bring the musical icon to life using thousands of the global megastars, personal photos and home video footage. It is kind of weird, I guess. Yes, don't like again. I'm on the same page, Michael. You there is there is I think you are ignoring a very vital yet still struggling side of live music, but there is a rot at the center of like the biggest part,
Starting point is 00:55:29 the biggest stages of it. Yeah, I think we could agree on. Yeah, well, it says titled Elvis Evolution, the digital version of the King is being created by Layered Reality after the success of ABBA's Voyage production and Kiss's announcement that the retired band will continue in avatar form So kiss is gonna do that in in Las Vegas. That's weird that kid
Starting point is 00:55:51 You wouldn't think kisses and usually trying to make money off of Kiss I bully I I think if you're mad about this for being very very surprising as a kiss fan I am very disappointing disappointed and then for selling out Yeah at this point kissing just go as far as they possibly can to do that and be like, you know now announcing congratulations Guess what surprise we've already sold our bodies to medical science. So even after we die They'll be reborn as lifelike animatronics. So kiss will play forever. I can't believe that what they need to do is they need to franchise themselves so that
Starting point is 00:56:32 they can so that other people, they can teach other people how to do kiss. And then those bands can tour as kids. Also, I've had this idea forever and I think it could be a massive, huge hit and a success. Like a Chuck E. Cheese for adults, but you put animatronics on stage that play like rock songs and stuff like that. That's like a million dollar, billion dollar idea wouldn't be as good as it. Yeah, I think you do it as like a kiss restaurant on, like it's okay, like Margaritaville, like Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville, except it's like kiss burger or whatever. And then the highlight of the restaurant is really advanced animatronic kiss that plays, you know,
Starting point is 00:57:14 a 30 minute kiss concert at the top of every hour or something. That is a billion dollar idea that is such a, but you can do it with other, you can like have a Bruce Springsteen one. You could have like a Beatles one people would, cause I, I think like, I don't think kids are that interested in animatronics anymore. So you have to go for the nostalgia people. Yes. And animatronics I do know are very hard to take care of because I did want to take a cheese and they are a lot of work. As a lifelong fan of Kiss and Gene Simmons,
Starting point is 00:57:48 I am disgusted and shocked that they would sell their likeness for this type of purpose. That's all I'll say. Here's a guy saying, who's the most undeserving member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? And we get a little conversation going. He goes, the whole concept of them.
Starting point is 00:58:02 He goes, the whole concept of a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and museum is a slap in the face of the rebellious early rock and rollers. This guy goes, this guy goes agreed rock and roll hall of fame is not rock and roll. It should be the museum of rock and roll because that's what it is. Edit rock is dead. They say, well, do you mean like punk? Or like, what are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:58:28 The ball? This guy iteration of rock. I don't know. This guy says having anything that is not purely rock music win an award be inducted into the Hall of Fame that is meant for rock music is like having a bowl of macaroni and cheese winning in a best pizza concept content. Just call it the food hall of fame and be done with it. Like I was talking about this because I've talked about this because we cover Nolan and all that stuff on this show in the origin. Like the second episode is the classic rock guys episode. And I've talked about with the rock and roll hall of fame. It is taking me an intense amount of discipline to not care
Starting point is 00:59:09 what goes in there. Cause somebody will just say like this band's not in there and your brain is wired to say, well, they deserve to be in there, but you shouldn't fucking care. Just don't. It doesn't. It's like a museum. Like that person said, like that person said, it's like a museum like that person said like that person said it's just a museum yet They're still fucking mad that it that they call it like it's just words the rock and roll It's really just a museum in Cleveland with a hook to get people to visit and visit. They hate it It should be the let's remember some guys museum
Starting point is 00:59:44 It should be the let's remember some guys museum. Yes, that would be. So this guy goes, does anyone even know or care who's in the Hall of Fame? And yes, yes. The answer to that is there's some people who really fucking care. Well, I think I have a branding fix that could maybe do that. That could maybe shift a lot of people's perspective. I wonder if you called it like the rock and roll, the rock and roll and its consequences hall of fame. And it's like rock and roll and everything that inspired there done.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Yeah. Well, I mean, I think I don't know, like, it's really hard for me to think of rap as like not being sort of technically rock and roll. You know, it's a very nineties thought process when rap was just starting to become this huge thing. It was a separated thing. We're really just talking about radio formats when it comes to this stuff. Like grew up.
Starting point is 01:00:45 I think we did. We talked about this last time because it is I can see a way where you would also think that it's kind of disrespectful to rap as a discrete, very specifically American type of art to just be like, yeah, we don't really we know we I mean, look, I don't want to be too flippant about this But it's like we know we need to induct black guys But there's only so many black people that we've let be famous rock people throughout
Starting point is 01:01:14 The years through a lot of like institutional hurdles to do that So we're just gonna start drafting in hip-hop people and saying oh, they're rock, too You know that you're saying one. You know, that's one way to look at it. You're saying that it's gone. Ryan woke. We're sick of this woke crap. Thank you. That's like, you know, you also say like, okay, well, early hip hop is based off of a lot of Motown samples.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Motown and right is definitely can be seen as like a lot of, you know, you could trace a musical lineage back to all the same stuff, but it's like, and then at the end of the day, it says it is like day you have to remember. And it is important to remember. And Brian just talked about it. It's who fucking cares. And it is hard. We have, it is really, at the end of the day, you have to remember who fucking cares. And they could put in, they could, they could put a friggin, they can induct a helicopter in there.
Starting point is 01:02:11 Hey, look, why are there, why are there any German bands in here? Where where's can, where's. I saw somebody complaining about can earlier today. I think we lost Chris, but we'll get the audio. I mean, if you're going to have the problem, the problem is if you're going to have can in there, then you got to let in bottle as well. All right. Are we almost done? Yeah, almost Bruce Springsteen on Ticketmaster.com.
Starting point is 01:02:36 Not worth the mortgage payment. I've seen him great shows over five hundred dollars. She goes over five hundred dollar ticket. Forget that he's rich. I'm not She goes over $500 ticket. Forget that. He's rich. I'm not. I have bills to pay. Yeah, that's all I agree with all of that. It's fucking bullshit. These rich ass people coming through charging hundreds of dollars for tickets. Well, here's a five star. The boss brought his a game. Springsteen was in top form. The band was tight and sounded great.
Starting point is 01:03:06 They played for a little over three hours. No politics, just music. I wonder if he would have brought up politics of what the review would have been. Yeah, no, just three hours of songs about how being like a working class stiff in America grinds your spirit into dust, but no politics, no politics, no politics, just music and talking about what the songs meant. He really enjoyed being up there and it showed Bruce and Steve when together
Starting point is 01:03:33 were laughing it up. Two old buddies enjoying each other's company and loving the fans as well. I love Jake Clemens too. So Jake Clemens is good. I, I, I, I got made fun of recently because Bruce was playing one block away from me and I stayed home to watch a wrestling pay-per-view instead. Probably should have went to the show, but you know. I also saw Bruce last year.
Starting point is 01:03:54 It was good. It's kind of exhausting. Three hours is a long time. I'm not a huge Bruce head, so I really am only into like five or six songs there. So yeah, I'm not a huge Bruce head, so I really am molding it into like five or six songs there. So yeah, I mean, I like Born to Run, but I think that's really it for me. The album Born to Run. I like Glory Days and Dancing in the Dark.
Starting point is 01:04:18 But let's check in with Michael one last time and then we get out of here. It's sweaty in this room. How ridiculous is that? And of course, Abba and Kiss started it all. Shows like America's Got a Toilet, Britain's Got a Toilet, Zimbabwe's Got a Toilet, and American Idolatry pushes vocal shenanigans.
Starting point is 01:04:41 Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Those are names of- I've never heard of those shows. Oh, well, let me explain it to you. There's a show called America's Got Talent. Simba, Simba boys got, you know, because he's like combined the thing is he's like, he's making it even like in his mind,
Starting point is 01:05:00 he's like, it's going further is but he's combined it with his fake name as well. So I really like that Zimbabwe's got toilet. I like America's got toilet Funny and but it is it is very funny to like take the grievance that far You know because you're like, okay, I can get the grievance of being like, Oh, there's all these talent shows that manufacture fake artists that, you know, don't have any like real connection to music. But dude, when have you ever been forced to listen to a popular artist from a country that is not America or Britain? Like how have you had, have you had any exposure to like an actual African music musician?
Starting point is 01:05:41 No, against your will in your entire life? Only when I watched Zimbabwe's got toilets. Also, we can say that I've never in my life and all the time that I've been listening to music and all the time that America's Got a Toilet has been... America's Got a Toilet is really good. I don't know who's ever... Like, I don't know who came from that show and I've never heard a song from that show or any of that stuff. Like, well, America's got toilet is it's about the judges.
Starting point is 01:06:11 Yes. Yes. And toilets. Let's learn for Blake Shelton or whoever. American idolatry. Yeah, that was a little that was a little much. But here, the acrobatics over actual artistic content. Of course, right along that same time, we got the Mickey Mouse Club and boy bands from the Mickey Mouse Club, girl artists from the Mickey Mouse Club and friends of girl artists from the Mickey Mouse Club.
Starting point is 01:06:42 But basically these boy bands and these pop artists of the early 2000s through, I don't know, the mid 2000s when they were really hot. The mid 2000s for the boy bands and the girl bands. We're sick of the girls, first of all. Yeah, thankfully pop music declined after the mid 2000s. There's some kind of even. Yeah, it's honestly pop music.
Starting point is 01:07:10 It's it's on its way out. It's not it just hasn't been popular. Yeah. Too many girls were nothing but a corporate design. Not much better than an Avatar show. New bands who come along find it extremely difficult to get any kind of airplay and forget press. They're just not covered. Everybody seems to be impressed
Starting point is 01:07:37 by that no talent Taylor Swift. Oh, and by the way, it's these new bands that are getting caught up in all- I just wanna be clear. Just after listening, just go listen to his music. I know it's the goal of him to just call her no talent. I think she does have some talent. Why? She's writing her own stuff.
Starting point is 01:07:58 What? One more second here. Let's say the hidden costs in order for them to even be able to play stadiums that Ticketmaster and live nation have set up. We talked about that again. Okay. What small band is trying to play a stadium? Like what, what does that mean? I mean, it is like the, the grievances, the grievances make sense, but it is just like so bizarrely misdirected, you know, uh, onto
Starting point is 01:08:30 always wrong. Yeah. And you know, it's like Taylor Swift is like the best case scenario from these things for him, you know? Yeah. She's the best case scenario for pop for sure. If she's writing her own songs, performing her own songs and playing instruments, I don't know what makes her so bad. Yeah, you know, like, I don't know what he's mad about. He's just a psycho. He hates women. Thank you for coming back, Chris, for our first sequel. And of course,
Starting point is 01:08:57 I hope we talk to you again before this. But next year, we will also do this. Yes, I foreigner. Good. Dave Matthews band. Good deserves to be there. Peter Frampton. I think this is a good slate of rock and roll Hall of Fame and Justice. There should be some Scott in there. There should be some Scott. Yeah. When are we going to get real big fish in the rock and roll Hall of Fame. When it's skank and pickle. It's skank and pickle please. Whereas want? I want more horns at the at the fucking ceremony This here for you. So that'll can we get the mic? Can we get the mighty mighty boss stones with Dickie Barrett back get Nicky and the boss stones out there?
Starting point is 01:09:36 It'll be like when the head the talking heads were reunited for their rock and roll Hall of Fame induction. Do you know? That would be very I'm to start a channel where I complain about ska bands not being in the rock and roll hall of fame. I might be successful now because there's such a huge like groundswell for ska. I will say that I thought of a series for somebody that I'm trying to give away to people of, of, I don't know how many episodes you could do of bands that got torn apart by COVID because of the mighty mighty Boston. Somebody said the spin doctors, uh, fucking offspring. There's like so many of these bands that like one guy in the band just
Starting point is 01:10:21 lost his fucking mind. And I bet, I bet there's some that went both ways where it's like one, like either one person became like a total, like agro anti-vaxxer or one person became like a total shut in. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Well we'll see you all next week with something. And Chris, tell people where to find you. I am still doing and introducing with my wonderful wife, Molly.
Starting point is 01:10:51 We've kind of format shifted where we're doing more artist interviews now. So that's what we've been doing to just keep the content going out. But you know, we, we are still going to be doing the book reviews that have always been like the central format for introducing. So we should have more of those coming out this summer. I believe the first one on the docket is Phil Collins. I was here. I've been on and introducing and have never been yelled at more than when I kept saying E. McKay instead of Ian McKay. Hi. Well, pronunciation isn't real. It's all in your head. As long as you know who we're
Starting point is 01:11:24 talking about or what we're saying, we pronounce it good enough. I tried doing a podcast about 17th century German history. Yeah. Yeah. You, you guys, you, you guys all set yourself up for all kinds of yelling, but, uh, I just, I thought it was, Hey, it's spelled that way. So and intro is, uh, and introducing is wherever you get podcasts. And then of course, Chapo Trap House. And right now we've got Will's movie mindset series going. And that'll be lasting through June.
Starting point is 01:11:54 And we've still got a few fun bonuses that aren't even announced for on the official schedule for movie mindset. So yeah, that's that's what I've got going right now. I'll see you all next week with a show. Goodbye.
