you taking the time, Moj. How are you? Good morning, gentlemen. Good morning. So we had you on last
week, it was pregame. We had you on Thursday ahead of the game against the Tycats. And it was a bit of a wild game
for the BC Lions in Hamilton.
What did you think of their performance
in that win coming out of the buy?
I mean, obviously, they found a way to win
and come out of Hamilton with a 4138 victory in overtime.
But, you know, guys, it's funny.
I wrote a column about this this week for Black Press
and BCLions.com.
It's really interesting how we look at a body of work.
And, you know what?
There's 140, 150 snaps in the season.
the NFL game and how our perception of that body of work changes maybe on four or five
plays and you know I'm just going to use that game as an example I'll even use the hockey
example as well but just say that you know Tim White doesn't fumble the football Tim White you
know hangs on the football Hamilton somehow finds a way to get in the end zone next play
and it might be the lions who turn over the ball and wind up losing the football game right
all of a sudden now your perception of that entire body of work those entire 145
150 plays, is completely skewed through a different lens.
I mean, now you're talking about how did they allow Bolivai Mitchell to throw for whatever,
249 yards in the second half, how did they allow an 84-yard punt return?
You know, the defense gave up whatever, 41 points.
And, you know, it's crazy that only three or four plays in a game might change our entire perception
because now we're looking at everything through a different lens.
Same thing in hockey.
I mean, say it's a two-two game in the third period.
say it's a big game, and, you know, somebody gets a break late in the game, scores three, two.
Well, the team that wins, all their fans in the media, and everyone's looking at that body work
and saying how great it was, and, you know, how they found a way to win,
and, you know, what a great four check, and, you know, the goaltending was outstanding.
And conversely, had it gone the other way,
now you're looking at all the negative things that happened in that game.
So it's a real fine line in sports a lot of times between winning and losing,
and I think when you look at a game, you can't be, you know, impacted, severely impacted by
those four or five plays or those critical plays
in the game that change it. I mean, you have to look at the
entire body of work. And, you know, with the Lions,
when you do that, and of course a coaching
staff will do that, but when you do
that, there's still a lot of work left to be
done with this BC Lions team.
I guess that will be the
challenge, and that always is the challenge for the
coaching staff, right? Because on the one hand, you're
trying to build momentum and get back to
500 and the standings, all that. So,
you don't want to be too upset about
a winning performance, especially
on the road. But as you said,
now you turn around and you're hosting Montreal
and you certainly can't be shrugging off
some of the issues that we saw on display in Hamilton?
No, you can't.
I mean, you've got to figure out what's going on with the secondary
and I was out of town this weekend,
so I don't have a chance to talk to anybody from the staff.
I'm going to the walk-through practice today,
and one of the things I'd like to talk to Mike Benavides about at some point,
you know, talking about the disparity in terms of the performance
between the first half and the second half
in a couple of games against Hamilton and just, you know,
is it a situation of, you know, adjustments, you know,
Mike may be running some defenses that they haven't seen
and all of a sudden now Hamilton adjusts at halftime
and kind of starts taking advantage of that.
Is it just players for whatever reason not performing to the same level
they did in the first half?
So it's one of the things that kind of intrigues me
would like to find out the answer to.
But, yeah, I mean, you know, you can't have second half BC lines defense.
You need that first half BC Lions defense if you want to be competitive
and win football games.
Last week we talked about some changes made to the defense,
both in the scheme and kind of where some of the players were positioned.
What did you think of the changes made on the defensive side last week?
Well, I mean, you know, moving Deonté Williams at halfback,
a very physical player.
We've all seen him this year laid out a few bodies.
So it gives you great run support from the halfback position.
Also, the fact that you move Robert Carter to half
and get him more involved a little bit more of an athletic player.
and you move Ronald Kent Jr. out to corner and, you know, talking to Ronald last week,
very comfortable moving to that corner position. Things slowed down, he said a corner and rightfully
so, because a lot of times you, you know, you're kind of on an island. You know, you're basically
locked up with that wide receiver on that side and, you know, you kind of react accordingly
to what that wide receiver does. You don't have to read and react as much as you would say at
halfback. So it's interesting and it's a work in progress too, right? That was your first game. So
let's see what happens now in game two
and if that group can continue to improve as the season progresses
in that configuration.
Moge, we had Nathan Rourke on the show earlier this week
and we talked to him about James Butler.
I know at practice earlier in the week,
he was raving about what James Butler's been doing for the team
this season as well.
What has stood out for you,
again, it was another really successful, impactful game
for the running back against Hamilton.
What stood out for you watching James Butler go about his business this year?
Well, number one, he's a good all-round back, right?
And it's interesting.
We talked to him on the postgame show after the win in Hamilton,
and one of the things he's most proud of takes great pride in,
isn't necessarily catching the football, isn't necessarily running the football,
it's his blocking, right?
He takes tremendous pride in that.
I think a lot of times when we look at running backs,
we always talk about, you know, what did they do in the running game?
You know, he had whatever, 20 carries for 97 yards.
Well, you know, what's he doing those other 40 or 50 snaps on offense, right?
Is he picking up his assignments in terms of his blocking assignments?
Is he a good rote runner?
Is he, you know, a good receiver in terms of catching the football?
Everybody always looks at the running back position and primarily the focus should be on running the ball.
I mean, that's what they do.
But there's a lot of other things that go with that position, and that's one of the cool things about James Butler.
He takes great pride in all three facets of being a run.
back, not just running the football.
And speaking of Nathan Rourke, it feels like, I mean, the conversation around the
BC Lions, he's so important to the team.
We know what he's capable of.
It's always going to come back to Nathan Rourke, throws for over 400 yards against Hamilton
with a couple of touchdowns.
How is his game rounding into form right now in your eyes, Moj?
Well, guys, remember, I mean, this is a guy that's seen a lot of different playbooks
for the course of the last two years.
And even this year, it's a new playbook.
It's a new offensive coordinator.
Now, granted, you're not reinventing the wheel a lot of times, but a lot of it has to do with verbiage, the way you call plays,
but also there comes a meshing between what Buck Pierce does as an offensive coordinator
and what Nathan Rourke likes to see as a quarterback, and obviously it's helpful that Buck has played the position.
He sees the game through a quarterback's eyes, but this is still a work in progress, fellows.
And as I've told many people, I firmly believe that this team is going to get stronger,
season progresses is that meshing and that coordination between Rourke and Buck Pierce gets stronger.
They learn what one another likes, what one another doesn't like. And I think also when you look
at the team in general, Buck Pierce, you know, he's learning what he can do and what he can't do
with players on his roster. And the players conversely are learning what, you know, the coaching staff
wants from him. So ironically, you know, the last couple of years, the lines have always started
hot and then kind of faded. The wins kind of, you know, massed the defense.
efficiencies in the process. And I think this year the process is being followed, although they
might not have the wins yet. I think the wins will come as the season progresses.
So the lions, they take on the alouettes tomorrow at BC Place. What should they expect from
Montreal? Well, the latest I've heard is Josh Elliott Wolf is the backup quarterback. So who
knows what they're in a really good, really good spot then? I heard he's a great scrambler, right?
Like you can move around in a buck a little bit. He's rather elusive, right? So,
You know, obviously Davis Alexander out with a hamstring injury.
He is the quarterback that they kind of invested in by trading with Cody Fajardo.
They got McLeod Bethel Thompson in return.
He's been a great disappointment for the Alouettes this year.
So they go with the inexperience.
Well, he does have experience, but relatively speaking, as a starter and inexperienced,
Caleb Williams at quarterback.
So the lines have to take advantage of that.
They're going to start stacking some wins.
They're at home.
They're playing a team that is, you know, in essence, starting the third string quarterback.
The Aalwoods have a very solid defense, and Noel Thorpe, their defensive coordinator will kind of hit you a lot of different ways, and there's a lot of deception in that defense, and it's one that's respected throughout the league, but offensively, the Lions have to come out on top of this battle.
And, you know, and if they can do that and get a lot of two-and-outs and give their offense the ball, all of a sudden now Nathan Rooking Company has an opportunity to pile up some points, and it kind of snowballs because then all of a sudden, Montreal becomes one-dimensional, and the pressure mounts.
on their offense to be in a trackmate
and then of course
that's when teams can take advantage
of that. We did get and ask
us anything that I wanted to throw your way from
Justin the East Van parking attendant
who also informs us that tomorrow is your
birthday so happy birthday
Thank you. And the question is related
if you could have your birthday meal
at any restaurant
where are you going and what are you
ordering? Oh that
is such
such a hard call because there's so many great establishments.
But it's funny because I just got back from Mexico,
I was there for six days, a little mini vacation during the season,
and talking a lot of people down there, you know,
he always bump into people on the road and you start chatting.
Chicago Cut in Chicago, it's a steakhouse.
It's absolutely amazing.
The food is amazing.
The service is amazing.
The view is amazing.
I mean, back in the days, Dick's was a go-to spot,
but it no longer exists.
unfortunately, but if there's one steakhouse, and, you know, Chicago's known for its stakes.
I'm assuming you guys have been there and been to some of the establishments like Gibson's and, of course, in the day, Dick is, but Chicago Cut steakhouse is something that I have, you know, it's tough to, it's tough to, um, to go over Chicago cut.
I'll say this, though. So my daughter lives in London, a counselor, much like you, Mr. Dodd, um, a barrister, I should say.
Sure. And when she came to Vancouver, her boyfriend is also a barrister. They travel all over Europe. They've been around the world. I mean, they love traveling. That's their thing. And they love food. And I'll tell you, Alyssa's steakhouse in Vancouver, they rank like in their top three. Right. So, yeah, Alyssa has an, it's a great, great stake at Alyssa down in Yaletown. So I probably have to go with maybe locally Alyssa. But if there's one place and I'm saying, this is where you're going to have your last.
meal. It would probably be Chicago cut.
All right. Sounds good. Moge, really appreciate you taking the time and enjoy the game tomorrow.
All right, fellas, have a great weekend. Try not to get too wet.
Yeah, we'll try. Sounds good. There is the Moj joining us on the Halford & Brough show on Sportsnet
650. By the way, a little bit of breaking news related to the BC Lions and not necessarily
a huge surprise, but this morning the CFL saying that the BC Lions are going to have to move a couple
of their home games next year as the
FIFA World Cup comes to town. So it looks like
two of their home games will have to
be moved to other locations.
The Argo is also going through this.
They're going to play extra home games in
Regina and Winnipeg. Not
announced yet where the Lions will be moving to, but
a bit of a tougher schedule for the Lions next year.
Yeah, I'm sure the Lions will also find a
temporary home somewhere for a couple
games and maybe just split them up
playing elsewhere. But yeah,
it's a tough spot to be in, but
it's expected. With some planning, could they
I know I've done like a East Coast like thing when these teams can't play in their stadium.
A road trip?
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think it's like too extended of a time.
Like, I mean, maybe.
A couple of different events.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I feel like they could make it work.
Well, it's too late now.
That ship has sailed.
Hey, Barney.
The cooperation and planning ship, not an option anymore.
Now we got to scramble.
The CFL was surprised by something.
What a shock.
You're going to be shocked that FIFA did not have the CFL schedule top of mind when they were putting
the World Cup schedule together.
They were like, we want to play games in Vancouver, but the lions!
Oh, no!
Ah, nuts!
Uh, so yeah, the, uh, the, the BC Lions will have to figure out somewhere else to play
for a couple of games, only a couple.
I thought it might be more next season, but only two, I guess, is, uh, is good.
Uh, it is Ask Us Anything Friday here on the Halford & Abroft show, Josh Elliott
Wolf and Jamie Dodd filling in.
We did get a, uh, Canucks related one that I wanted to hit here.
Okay.
it is Spanky the Otter Salesman
for Gabrielola Island
Just a thought
Interested in your takes
Now that the Canucks have locked up
Connor Garland
Did you like the name?
I'm still laughing about Spanky the Otter salesman
Yeah it's a good name
Now that the Canucks have locked up
Garland and seen how center depth
Is one of the most glaring issues
For the season ahead
Could you see them ever
Trying to deploy him as a center
I mean he drives play
he's tenacious on the puck and the boards
not really a goal score
is it just the size issue is it too late
in his career
that is from Spanky the otter salesman
this question comes up a lot
not always about Connor Garland
but hey could you move player X
and especially when they're young when they're prospects
can you teach this guy to play center
it's just really hard it's really hard to play center
right and I always think of it in
like baseball terms you know they have the
defensive spectrum right of positions
that are easier to play versus harder to play typically you only move one way usually it's like well
we wanted you to be a shortstop but you're not quite good enough so we'll try you at third base or
we'll try you at second base it's rarely like hey you've been playing third base i bet you could play
the harder position shortstop rarely goes that way and i think it's a similar thing in in the
nchel you don't see like it just doesn't happen very much because if you're already playing on
the wing there's probably a reason for it and to close the ground and be
comparable to the centers already established in the NHL who have so much experience and have spent
so long honing that craft. It's just way too big of a hill to climb. That's why it's so much
more common that a player is drafted at center but can't hang at center and they have to go play
the wing. You move that direction, not the other way. So I get why people texted in. It would be like
people are casting about for any solution to the Canucks Center was. I understand it. I would be
shocked if moving player
X from the wing to center is part of
the solution. Yeah, I almost feel
like the J.T. Miller experience was
like, it gave people false hope about
like, hey, a winger can turn into a center.
But he was always a hybrid. That's
the thing. He was drafted as a center. He was
always kind of a hybrid. I think the fact that he came over as a winger
people were like, oh, he's a winger and then he converted
to center. But yeah, it was a different
case where he had played center in the past.
And I do think the
the texter mentions
the size issue and it being
late in his career. I do think both of those things are good points. Like it's tough to be a center
and this is why we talk about Marco Rossi maybe not being a great fit as a as a centerpiece for
the Vancouver's Nucks. It's like, well, it's really tough to be a center and then also be
effective when you are a little bit smaller in stature. And Connor Garland, I think he can be
a very effective, very tenacious winger. But I don't know if that translates as well to being a center
even if he was able to do it. Like I just think you're getting a less effective
player in Connor Garland that you are. That's the other part of is what you have a guy that
you just committed to because you love what he's doing at his position. Why risk that?
Right? Why for the Hail Mary shot that he works out of the new position, just keep him at the
position where he's playing really well for you. This one, Rockin and Langley, I'm going to be
careful in everything. Believe it or not, it's actually easier to move a good skating defenseman
to center as they understand the defensive end of things.
way better and are strong
on the puck. That's right. That is from
Rocket and Langley. That's what Bruce Boudreau
shared, right? Yeah. There was talks of
Quinn Hughes to Center. Maybe where it was
maybe Rocket and Langley was on top
of things. Do we
want to do? Do you ever what we learned? Do we want to do some more on what we
learns and then we'll get into the ask us anythings and everything
on the other side here?
For sure. Okay. So you
want to start? I can start. Okay. Thank you,
Jamie. What I learned and this
was brought to my attention by
notorious member of Canucks Twitter, Jim Leahy,
on social media.
Yeah, yeah, last night.
What I learned is that the Little League World Series is begging
degenerate gamblers to stop betting on 12-year-olds playing baseball.
They released this statement last night on social media.
While Little League International continues to monitor the complexity
in ever-evolving world of sports betting,
we feel strongly that there is no place for betting on Little League games
or on any youth sports competition.
Little League is a trusted place
where children are learning the fundamentals of the games
and all the important life lessons
that come with having fun, celebrating teamwork,
and playing with integrity.
And no one should be exploiting the success
and failures of children playing the game
they love for their own personal gain.
So the Little League World Series is stepping up and saying,
guys, stop it.
You've finally gone too far.
You got so much to sit down.
Yeah.
It's not like there's a lack of sports going on.
You can find something.
Real baseball, professional baseball.
It's happening.
played right now every day
there's games you can gamble on. You open that can
of worms. Now this is, it's not
legal in the United States.
So these are like sketchy offshore
books that are listing
the odds. I will say purely at a professional
interest, I tried to find
the odds.
I do think one of the sites
most notorious are doing it has taken them down.
So maybe they were cowed.
Although typically offshore gambling sites are not
known for their sense of shame. So I don't know if that would
work if the Little League World
series would be able to shame them into doing it.
The other thing for me is, I get, if you're betting on that, you're, like, inherently
a degenerate gambler and there's not a lot of rationality going on to this, but why would
you want to place your money in the hands of 12-year-olds?
Like, they're not the most reliable on the ball people.
It's not like, picky too, a little bit.
You're not like, I would think it would.
Maybe a little bit.
By the way, speaking of the Little League World Series, uh, Little Mountain starts their
tournament.
That's right.
against Venezuela today at 10.
So make sure you check that out.
And I'll be cheering on the boys from Little Mountain
as they start their tournament in Pennsylvania.
I also wanted to say this.
I saw on the TV today.
Pitcher from Chinese Taipei.
Yeah.
Hitting 82 miles an hour on the radar gun multiple times
in their game yesterday.
I was actually impressed the clip I saw the hitter from Mexico
swung and missed once but was able to at least foul off
the other 82 mile an hour one that I saw.
which is pretty impressive because they do the it's closer right obviously than the major league mound which is 60 feet and six that's right exactly as you well know Josh so they do the the adjustment and it's the equivalent of a hundred and seven mile an hour pitch really once you do the adjustment for how much closer the mound is wow so that kid and also just 82 miles an hour at 12 years old is nasty nasty that's wild frightening frightening speed do you think you could throw 82 miles
Zero chance.
Okay.
Zero chance.
Even if we give you a chance to build up your arm.
Absolutely not.
You're not getting anywhere close.
What threshold do you think you could cross?
60?
I could get over 60.
Yeah.
I'm pretty sure.
I think I could hit 70.
I have no frame of reference.
I can't remember the last time I measured myself on a radar gun.
Let's get a radar.
I got to go to the P&E.
Do they still have that?
I used to love that at the P&E every year.
I hope so.
Let's have some people report back and we'll see.
But I have a nephew who's 14 and he's really.
He's a really a competitive pitcher.
He loves baseball, works really hard at it.
Like, I don't think he's hitting 82,
and he's a couple years older than this guy,
and I know he can throw harder than me.
Like, guaranteed.
I know he can throw harder than me.
So, like, 82 is really, really impressive.
I don't think I'm even getting close to 82,
but I feel like if I worked at it for a little bit,
I could hit 70.
That's like there were Jamie Moyer,
and he pitched forever.
But I'm pretty sure, like, the end of his career,
he was throwing, like, 85 mile an hour fastballs.
He's topping out at 85.
Yeah, it was what I mean.
Like, he was dialing it up to 85.
He was touching 85 when he reached back and really literally let loose at the end of his career.
So, like, 82.
Like, that's pretty significant.
Yeah.
Okay, Mukau that.
I'll fit mine in real quick because I just love it.
My, what we learned.
This, the first world humanoid robot games was hosted in Beijing,
featuring soccer, boxing track, and more events for the robot.
to compete in.
The best part of this is they posted a video and these robots are horrible at sports.
They really are.
They do not know like they.
Well, it's funny because you show me the video or you put it in the rundown and I found
it and it starts with them doing, which is amazing, like an opening ceremony style thing.
So all the robots are dancing and that's great because you can pre-program that.
You can choreograph a whole robot dance sequence for these robot athletes and it looks great.
And you're like, wow, this is really impressive.
Then they start playing soccer and, like, immediately at the kickoff, the robot falls down.
And the robot on the other team, like, walks up to it and falls down as well.
And it's like, wow, you guys are bad.
And then people have to run onto the pitch and drag the robots off.
It's awesome.
So I think if you're worried about if you do any job that involves, like, manual labor or skilled labor or anything like that,
and you're concerned about humanoid robots taking your job at some point, watch this video to
reassure you.
They're really bad at it.
They are not there.
They are not good at it yet.
Yeah, the video was posted by a front office sports
at FOS on Twitter if you want to go.
That's where I found it.
If you want to go find it, it's just amazing.
Okay, 650, 650, 650, Dumbar Lumber Text Line, thank you.

Before we get into some of the other Ask Us Anything,
is this what we learned comes in from James in Richmond,
who says, what I learned, the WNBA is in Vancouver tonight.
First regular season game played outside of U.S. soil,
which is nice, and he's right.
It's at Rogers Arena, the Seattle Storm and the Atlanta Dream playing a regular season game.
I love that stat, though, because of course, Toronto's getting a WMBA expansion, but we'll always have that on them.
Yeah.
Despite getting the team, we had the first regular season game.
I will say, if you're talking, you know, we always have the one of the hallmarks of summer radio, right, is potential expansion teams to come to the market.
I think you've got to throw a WMBA in that list as well.
Now, are there building and ownership concerns there as well? Sure.
I'm sure there are.
But I think if you look at the way that league's expanding, the way women's sports has been expanding in Vancouver as well.
Of course, with the PWHL Vancouver team, the Rise FC as well.
I think that absolutely should be on the list when we're talking about potential next franchises to land in Vancouver.
Yeah, I would agree.
And so, yeah, the game goes tonight at Rogers Arena.
And it is kind of wild, too, that there hasn't been a game in Toronto.
You think they would have been like, hey, let's just...
Tested it out.
Yeah.
I think they've done preseason games there, but not a regular season game.
Right.
Yeah.
So, we got it.
We did it.
We did it.
We won up Toronto.
Yeah.
That's our goal most days.
You know what?
Yeah.
For a lot of people, it's true.
650, 650, keep the text coming in there.
Did want to, we'll go to Lattie.
He had a while we learned.
Yeah, I got a quick one.
I was kind of surprised to see this yesterday come across my feed, but Tops, the company
that makes the sporting cards, all the different baseball and hockey.
football cards.
They are inserting the actual draft lottery ball
from this year's draft class
in a line of cards that they're putting out.
So you could potentially have the chance to own a card.
Embedded in the card is the full ping pong ball.
If you can picture that.
Oh, you get the whole ball.
You get the whole ping, one of the balls.
So wait, they must flatten it, though.
No, it's a three-dimensional card.
Yeah, it's like a three-dimensional.
It's the card, and then the ball kind of sits in the
middle of it. How is it going to go in the
like the binder? That's what I'm wondering.
It's a display only apparently.
And what an odd thing though.
Like the actual like verified ping pong ball from the lottery for that pick.
I guess my question.
Like so how do you would it not be obvious what packets in?
It must come in like some sort of box.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because I'd be like oh that weird of two.
I want that one.
The thing that's got the growth on the side.
Would you want that?
would you want the, like, ping pong ball from when the Canucks drafted Pedersen?
I don't know.
The actual ping pong ball.
I don't, like sports card collecting and I guess collectibles in general is kind of a
mystery to me.
Like I went through a hockey and baseball card phase when I was a kid.
I get the appeal of that.
But all the add-ons and, okay, how can we squeeze more money?
How can we make this even more desirable?
Like the, I guess I can, you know, the ones that have like the jersey patch.
Okay, that's kind of cool, a little texture to it.
I can understand that.
Yeah.
The ping pong ball is not doing it for me.
Not doing it for me.
I will say I used to collect hockey cards.
I had multiple binders full.
I had like rookie cards and stuff.
And I was super into it.
I would just buy like a tin every year and just add to it.
And then believe it or not, my place flooded.
And I was staying in the basement.
Like I lived on my mom's house and I was like 17, 18.
So this was like 10 years ago.
What is going on with you?
So the last five houses I've lived at, three of them have had separate water issues that have never been
my fault. So I mean that the second part's nice. Yeah. The first part. So anyway, I was on the ground floor and this one was like a pipe burst underneath and it kind of flooded multiple feet into where I was living but I was away for the weekend so I didn't catch it. But the hockey cards were on the floor and they were.
Wow. There goes your retirement fund. I know. That's tough. I did the I had the binders but I also did the classic thing where I just had like an empty margin container that I threw the
cards in, and it did not keep them well.
No, surprisingly.
They were not in mint condition.
But the ping pong cards, the ping pong ball cards, have the little authenticator
sticker on them. And if you see in the MLB games in recent years, they actually put
the authenticator on the field now. So they'll bring the ball right over and he'll authenticate
it on a little computer at the side of the field. They authenticate everything now.
I think MLB's found a new revenue stream because I was at the Jay's game a few weeks ago
and you can actually purchase a game used ball and they will tell.
you the pitch that it was
used on, what happened on that
pitch, if it was used for multiple plays,
the sequence of events. Because you can just
scan it. Yeah, you can get it right down to
like, hey, I want that home run ball from
that moment and that time, and they authenticate
everything. So I wonder if this is just
another case of, hey, let's authenticate
these ping pong balls and sell those for more
profit. What if it's not even the same ping pong ball?
Yeah. Who knows? If it's authenticated.
It's a different ping pong ball?
Yeah. I'm outraged.
It just looks like a regular ping pong balls.
It could be.
Yeah, it could be anything.
Question one from Comox.
If you had the chance to win a million dollars,
but you have to choose one of the following,
which would you do?
Make a...
Thank you.
Very good.
Make a three-pointer while getting guarded by an NBA player.
Not that one.
Not happening.
Get a hit on an MLB pitcher.
Probably not that bad either.
Score a breakaway goal against an NHO goalie.
Also tough.
So the answer, first of all,
is no one is doing any of these.
We're not succeeding.
Okay, so let's just have that down.
Even me as a very confident guy.
As an incredible athlete.
Yes, exactly.
I'm not doing any of these.
I do think now I have questions
and I don't know if Juan from Comox's
will be able to text in and give us an answer here,
but for the get a hit from an MLB pitcher,
are we talking like make contact in fair territory?
Are we talking like there's a defense
and I have to leg out a hit?
I was assuming it's like a,
parable. Okay, follow-up question.
Well, but also, but the, like, the
breakaway goal is against a goalie and
you're getting guarded by an NBA player, so
maybe there is a defense. Follow-up question, am I allowed
to bunt? Yeah. Because I still
don't think I would be able to successfully do that, but I think
if I'm allowed, if it's, can you get a bunt
down? And I hate bunt,
but I'd be willing to sully myself
by bunting for a million dollars. Are you
lagging out a bunt? No, but if
that's what I'm saying, if there's no defense.
Right. Then I think my
best, your best option is just to hold the bat
in the strike zone and pray.
This is essentially pros versus Joe's.
Yeah.
Like they tried this.
If you're not allowed to bunt,
then I think you have to go with breakaway goal against an NHL goalie and just pray
but the goalie like falls down and twists his ankle or something.
That's often happened.
Yeah.
That's the tiniest sliver of hope that you're going to get in this list of questions.
I think I would lean,
get a hit on an MLB pitcher.
But again,
I just don't like my chances in any of them.
That one's just the one I think I can get the most luck.
into because scoring on a
like I'm not I'm just not going to be able to score. If you're not
allowed to bunt, you're not even like you're not even going to swing
before the ball gets there. Go to go to a completely hosed. Go to the batting cages
and go to the 90 mile an hour. Like you're not touching it. You're not
like you take it foul and you're like patting yourself on the back.
Yeah no I agree. I will say any of these I'm like I just I'll do them but I'm not
it's not going to happen. Look how often major league hitters strike out and look
goofy striking out against major league.
That's true. That's a good point.
Like, I just think unless you are bunting, you have zero, zero chance.
And obviously the NBA players, like, you're not even going to get a shot up.
It's just going to be taken away from you every time before you even take a shot.
I'm too short to do this.
That's zero chance.
Any seven-foot listeners?
By process of elimination, you have to go with the breakaway on a goalie.
But I also say that knowing I would have a 0% chance of success.
Ask us anything.
Adam, the former bath guy, which Sportsnet 650 coworker would you want to?
go on a cross-country road trip with nobody rushed to answer who's least annoying hmm i think uh i
think bick i get along with bick well although i think bick finds me annoying on a personal level
sometimes so i don't know if he would be thrilled fair i'm hosting two weeks with bick in september
and he really doesn't like it he doesn't no because he's like i have my own thing i have my own
rhythm when i do the people show by myself really last year i was like oh hey buddy we're
working together. I'm so excited. He goes,
I was like, what?
So I would enjoy
going on a road trip with Bick.
Generally, when you have to host by yourself, it's like,
ah, this is kind of like, I got to carry a lot of weight
here, and then you get a co-host, and you're like,
oh, this is so helpful. I think Big
is just chill, easy to get
along with, no drama. Yeah.
I think that would be my pick. I think he's high on the list.
I think Lina, I would take Lina.
Let's go. I feel like Lina would be organized.
I could see Lina, for sure. It'd be a good trip.
I'd be entertaining. You guys can do
brunch every day
I think I take
A-Dog
honestly
I'm used to dealing
with him
and
and it would be
an excuse to do
all like the fun
kid stuff
like go to
Disneyland
you'd be like
it's for A-Dog
it's for A-Dog
okay
and secretly I would enjoy
it to go
yeah
and you can still do
the sports things
too because A-Dog
like sports
so we'd still do
all the sports
fun stuff
I just think
I think you're
taking on too much
of the logistical
planning
if you're bringing
A dog with you. It's all on your
shoulders then at that point. But I
get the point is you could
have some fun with A dog along
the way. Yeah, we could still go to Disneyland. We're going.
Oh, we would go. Yeah. See, our
road trip is fine. Okay,
ask us anything, this one from
Leaf. Or Lena, did you have someone
you would pick? I'd pick you, for sure.
Wow, wow, look at you guys. Yeah.
The chemistry from Canucks
brunch. Incredible. How could you not pick your co-host?
Yeah, come on, why didn't you pick and think of a way?
We're just going for the brownie points.
Lena's picking Josh, I'm picking A-Dog.
I can think of at least one way why you wouldn't pick your co-host.
Did you read the text from Tyler?
No, what was it?
If you weren't the driver and wanted to sleep, then Drans would be a good pick.
Is Drans not the, like, look, I know some people have more of an issue with Thomas Drans.
And nobody here actually has an issue with Trance, but he still would be the, like, last pick in that, I think.
Because he'd want to argue with you the whole time.
Yeah, I mean, I drove to Richmond with Drans once.
It was pretty good.
That's the limit.
It was fine.
Go to Richmond.
Fair enough.
I drove back from UBC with Trance once as well.
Okay.
All right.
So I was going both way.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I have been in a car with Trance.
It was fine.
It was unremarkable.
Big Lunch says, how about if you could make two 650 personalities go on a road trip together?
Then who?
So, Trance.
Drans and Brough
Drans and Brough
Maybe, yeah
Drans and Richio
Yeah
They have like
I can never tell
If it's real beef
Or fake beef with them
Yeah we gotta get to
You gotta get to the bottom
You'll find out
I think Drans and Reach
though that'd be good
Yeah I think so
Okay
This one from Leif
When visiting an open house for sale
Is using the toilet
Off Limits
I mean I got
Number one question is
Number one or number two
What are we talking about here?
I think that's the first
question. I mean, if I was
going to an open house, like, I would
go to the bathroom at my own house before
I leave. So take
steps to avoid doing that
just as you normally would when you're out
and about in the world. But I mean, look,
if it's an emergency, you got to go. If you got to go,
you got to go. So I don't know what, I guess that's
part of the deal of
an open house. That's the toilet works. Yeah,
what if I'm like, you know what, I'd, a big
part of, I spend a lot of my
life in a washroom.
I want to make sure it works.
Really a lot?
I feel like an insignificant...
I feel like you're making sure if the piping's all good
because you're used to floods.
Yeah, Josh is really concerned about the water functioning
and all wherever he moves.
He flushes toilets many times.
I'm so concerned about anywhere I go in the future
just like having some water-related issues.
I don't know what happens.
It's not my fault.
You need a flood report for all these, the next places.
Yes.
Yeah, but then they'll be like, no, it's really good.
And then I'll find something.
don't worry i think a normal thing to do if you're going to an open an open house and you need to
use the washroom you leave the open house early and you find the nearest public place to use the
washroom yeah yeah i would agree i mean i guess how much of an emergency are we talking about that's
you know how much time do we have here i would never be seconds i would never be my first choice
to do it let's put it that way but again they're toilets they exist for a reason this is the
this is the risk you take when you have an open house yeah uh
Colin and Tawasen, ask us anything.
In honor of today's weather system, what sport is the most fun to play in the rain?
Ooh, that's a good one.
So of the main sports, like baseball, you're not.
No, baseball is not good to play in the rain.
I would almost go football.
Yeah. Football has that classic, like, oh, the weather's so bad.
It's going to be such a slog, but it's kind of fun thing.
What about rugby?
Yeah, I was going to say rugby is got to be up there.
Yeah, I would think rugby is up there.
Soccer, not great.
is, yeah, it's all like, you're stepping in mud.
It's not, and the ball isn't moving like you wanted to move.
Field across in the rain was never fun.
Yeah, never enjoyed that.
Did they, like, cancel games for rain?
Not usually.
No?
No, unless it was like torrential.
I feel like cricket in the rain wouldn't be a lot of fun.
No.
I don't think I've ever seen rainy cricket before.
Now when I think about it.
Yeah.
650, 650.
This one from Scott, who says, ask us anything.
I have a friend coming to Vancouver for one night before going on a flight.
They want to do something very.
Vancouver as they have never been here where do I take them if it's today that makes it a little
tougher because of what's going on outside my default answer would be Stanley Park like one day
and especially because you said like they're looking to do an iconic quintessential Vancouver
thing I think that gives you the best kind of feel of the city and nature and all of that I would
do Stanley Park seawall bike around the seawall something like that that would be my number one
choice. Now, he also says they're coming for one night. I don't know if, like, if you're looking
for an evening. Yeah. Pierre's, something like that, really quintessential Vancouver thing.
The Roxy. I would say Stanley Park would be my first thing that comes to mind for me. Yeah,
that's good. That's probably the best option. I mean, White Spot, if you're Thomas Muller,
you're going to White Spot when you arrive in Vancouver. First thing you do, off the plane,
direct B-line to White Spot. Mike, or sorry, Mark and White, White, right?
Rock says, I used to be a realtor and I had a quote unquote emergency and had to use the bathroom during an open house I was hosting with a house full of people. That's tough. That's a rough spot to be in.
But he, unlike the people visiting, he can't just run out to a coffee shop. He's stuck there. That's true. He's hosting. He's like, I didn't factor that in. So realtors probably do use the washroom and the open house quite often because they would have to.
That would be the worst. Yeah. Just people walking by. Oh, is that the washer? Ah, that one's locked up actually.
That's unavailable.
17 minutes, and then you'll be good.
Robin Surrey, ask us anything.
With all this baseball and CFL talk,
where are your dream baseball
and football stadiums to visit
from any league?
So, baseball is always the fun one.
That opens me up to Korea.
Yeah, true.
Yeah, you could go there.
I'm going to Korea.
What's the iconic Korean baseball stadium?
I don't even know.
Well, and you're like, I'm going to go to Korea.
I don't know where.
I don't know the name.
of the stadiums.
Why do you want to go there?
Which team?
I cheer for the NC Dinos.
Okay.
So I go to their park.
But I've heard their park's kind of out of the way.
It's not near a lot of the touristy spots.
Maybe not.
I'll just go to Seoul.
Okay, sure.
I mean, I can see the Tokyo Dome just because it's historic, but doesn't look like a very, like,
pleasant place to go watch a game.
I feel like there's better Japanese ball parks to go to than the Tokyo.
It looks like the trope, but, like, better.
But in Tokyo.
Yeah.
The roof that actually function is properly.
My baseball stadium.
is Dodger Stadium.
That's the most iconic, most famous, no, that I have never been to.
I've been to Wrigley, I've been to Fenway.
I've been to a lot of the other, like, really nice ones.
I've never been to Dodgers Stadium.
It looks awesome.
I went to Dodger Stadium and maybe I built it up too much in my head, but I was a little bit
underwhelmed.
We also sat in the bleachers and we, like, we had front row bleachers seats, but all the
Dodgers fans were like, you're not sitting here.
Like, they had taken up all the bleachers seats in the front.
Wait, what?
They just like sat and you, and I was like, you were powerless.
And they were just like, no.
Yeah, and I was like, okay, fair enough.
What?
I don't know.
I didn't fight them on it.
Where did you sit?
Actually, you know what?
I did fight them on it a little bit.
And then I-
But you lost?
I lost.
All right.
So that's a tip.
I'm non-confrontational.
So I just, I moved like a few rows back.
It was fine.
That's a wild story.
I've never had that happen.
Go to the usher.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I was, honestly, I was, I didn't want to deal with it.
Because even if they had moved, it looked like everyone was like
packed in there, and I'm like, I don't want to be packed in, like, squished up against people
regardless, even if I get those seats. So I moved a few. And then we basically had like a whole
bleacher road to ourselves. So I preferred that in general. So the tip is, just buy a
front row seats, get kicked out, get them taken from you. Don't do the front seat first. Then go
find the comfortable seats in the back. All right. Well, I'll keep that in mind.
I will say. Or you see Josh just kick him out of his seat and you get a way better seat.
He's never going to push you on it. And I feel like with NFL stadiums, like the classic answer is Lambo.
I don't know. It doesn't, like, it'll be cool, but it's not, it's not good. It's not like a bucket list thing for me. You want to go to Wisconsin? Well, you're a Vikings fan. I hate the Green Bay Packers. I mean, I would love to go to Wisconsin. Beer, cheese, sausages. What more could you want? It sounds amazing. Just a horrible place.
Sounds great. I would, I would like to go to a Vikings game. I'd never been to Minnesota. And that, that stadium does seem, like, US Bank Stadium does seem pretty nice. Yeah, I mean, NFL stadiums just don't have the same allure as like the classic baseball.
stadiums from me. I guess. I'd rather go to
Fenway. The new ones, like the one down in L.A. It's like, it looks
cool. Yeah. But how much
is it really going to kind of
increase your enjoyment? I don't know. Yeah. Fair enough.
Okay. That's going to do it for the week.
Appreciate everyone texting in
650, 650, everyone listening
as well. Thank you to Lina.
You're back next week. Right? I sure am
with I'll have what we learns next week.
Good job. Don't commit
yourself to anything like that.
Do not put yourself
on the spot. Laddie, you're here next.
week? I sure am. Okay. Jamie's here next week. Dan Riccio is here next week. I am not here next week.
But appreciate everyone that I just mentioned. Lina Laddie, my co-host, Jamie Dodd. I have been
Josh Elliott-Wolf. This has been Halperdon Brough on SportsNet 650.
