It's AJ here on the Halford & Brough Show on SportsNet 650.
What up, AJ?
What a week.
and we have ahead of us.
Dude, I'm so excited.
But today's Ask Us Anything, Fast Forward's all the way to Tuesday.
AJ, this is a special AJ themed one.
What is more likely to happen on Tuesday?
Does AJ's host a live show with Dranson Dodd of Canucks Talk?
Or will you be showing instead the Blue Jays in the wild card game on Tuesday?
Jimmy Aces has the Jays win in the division.
Oh, my.
I'm not talking to him.
I'm not speaking with them.
That's it.
It's where we're done for a month.
What do you think is going to happen?
Do you think the Yankees are going to get this down?
Do you think the Js are going to hold on to win the ALE East?
I think the Jays are going to hold on.
I think last night was a signature win for them.
And I think if not, they're in big trouble.
Like, I think they have to win the division.
I don't think the Yankees have to win the division to move forward.
Laddie is, I think you're in agreeance with that.
You don't want to see them anywhere near the wild card.
No.
No, that's fair.
No, no.
And I get that.
It's just, you know, I mean, the Yankees have, you know,
There's a ton of guys who've been there and done that, right?
You know, there's something to that, but you know what?
I'm just looking forward to this weekend.
Come on, the Ryder Cup, although the U.S. looks terrible right now.
What's going on there?
They do look terrible.
So we've got this weekend.
We've got the Ryder Cup.
We've got college football all day Saturday.
Amazing games on the slate, including Ohio.
Michael Jordan is there, and he looks concerned.
Yes.
We got NFL all day Sunday.
And then every other sport you could possibly imagine this weekend.
What do you guys?
First off, how are you going to handle this?
How many TVs do you guys have at AJ's?
Well, we have, with both sides, we have five.
Okay, great.
So you've got enough TVs.
We got everything rolling.
And they're massive.
And remember, it's the long weekend.
Oh, beautiful, yes.
Like, you can just roll, like, forget about anything until Wednesday.
I love it, buddy.
Okay, everyone, make sure you get by this weekend.
AJ's pizza 3-270s Broadway, two sides of the restaurant.
AJ, thanks for doing this today, bud.
Enjoy the weekend.
You guys have a great weekend.
Take care.
Yeah, you two, thanks.
That's AJ from AJ's Pizza on East Broadway here on the Halford & Bruff Show on Sportsnet,

trying to get a hold of Adam Stanley our sports
guy golfs like get me Tiger Woods
like sorry we can do Adam Stanley and here you know
he'll be on the he'll be on a second and I guess we should point out
a couple things here one it sounds like
you can actually watch the Ryder Cup now.
I guess earlier this morning, there were some
confusion. I don't know what was going on, to be
honest. I was just kind of keeping an eye on it, but it seemed
to be showing like a rerun of a Jack Nicholas
documentary on the Golf Channel, but now
we've got it on in studio. However,
we will do right by the listeners and try not to provide
any spoilers as we go along here.
Well, no, no, no. If you know, if you don't want spoilers,
turn the radio off. There you go. Okay.
Adam Stanley's going to join us in a second here.
No spoilers. What's going on? I can't tell you.
Yeah, don't say anything. All right.
Turn your radio off if you don't want any Ryder Cup.
Spoilers, because Adam Stanley, Sportsnet Golf Analyst, joins us now on the Power West Industries hotline on the Halford and Brough show on SportsNet 650.
Good morning, Adam.
How are you?
It is still the morning, somehow, some way.
If we're not going to spoil the play, I can talk about how much coffee I've had so far this morning, seeing as I was here on, I guess it would have been, geez, 1 o'clock in the morning, Pacific time.
been here since. So yeah, we're often running. Balls are in the air. And yeah, it's the first
tea atmosphere, unlike almost anything else in golf, it's, it's been quite the day already.
Well, what's the atmosphere like right now? The Europeans are crushing the Americans in three
of four matches. Did not expect this. I mean, if you look at the body of work of the, you know,
of the European side in this alternate shot format, I guess it shouldn't be all that surprising.
but given the way that the Americans came out of the gates this morning,
Bryson hit the first shot of the competition,
basically drove the green on number one.
The boys came out of the tunnel.
Each group was draped with the American flag.
There was a lot of kind of pent-up energy, I think, amongst the American side,
and you would have thought that they would have just been off to the races.
I mean, Bryson and JT, one up after one after that Bryson drive,
and you just think, like, oh, man, it might be over already.
And then the tables have turned, and it is a sea of blue right now,
and it's almost like just Team Europe is kind of doing what Team Europe always does
in this alternate shot format.
Rory, I don't know if he's four up still or maybe five up now.
Ludwig and Matt Fitzpatrick are five up, and John Rahman and Turrell-Hatt,
and I just saw I've gone a couple up as well in that opening match.
So, geez, 3-1 down maybe after the morning session.
It's not going to be that great.
It's a big hole for the Americans to dig out of,
but thankfully it's just session number one.
and we'll see what happens.
Not thankfully.
I wish it was over after this.
Yeah, I wish it was over.
Shuffler with Henley,
he's five down to Oberg and Fitzpatrick.
That's a shocker,
but in some ways,
Morikawa being down big
isn't such a surprise,
especially against Rory and Tommy.
What's the talk around Morikawa right now?
Because I know there are a lot of people,
a lot of Americans,
were like, oh, I don't even know what this guy should be on the team.
Yeah, I would say probably two quick answers back to you.
One, the Scotty Russell pairing, very confusing to me about why they're playing so poorly.
They went 2 and 0 at the President's Cup last year.
They were a very, very solid pair.
We're basically like, you know, carved in stone as a team for this year at the Ryder Cup as well.
So that one, throw me for a bit of a loop.
the Colin Moore-Caua question
from a top-to-bottom
like roster perspective
like a team of 12
he was probably the biggest liability
in my eyes
it's been kind of an odd season for him
a couple of really good results
at the very beginning of the year
but some of the battles he's picked
with the media this year has been odd
the caddy carousel as well
you know I think he's on caddy number four
for the season
just hadn't been playing well all that
all that much recently
and again it's kind of back to the kegan Bradley question
Like if Keegan, if literally anyone else was the captain,
Keegan probably would have been picked for this team.
And obviously if Keegan had played a little bit better through the summertime,
he would have qualified automatically.
And probably if you're looking at, again, pure body of work and just results of late,
Colin probably would have been the guy that would have been left off in favor of Keegan Bradley,
who is still a top 15 ranked offer in the world.
What has the crowd been like?
I know it's early, so not everyone's into their $15 Mikalob Ultras yet.
But I'm curious what people are saying there or the people in charge
because I know the Americans do want that crowd to be a factor,
but they don't want it to be like the waste management open either.
Right.
So, you know, beer sales open only at 9.
So that's like almost 10 holes of golf that have gone by without any liquor sales.
And also the ticket prices for this.
Now, concessions were included except for booze.
But ticket prices were like $750 to come here.
So if you're thinking about, you know, just kind of Joe Schmo and his kid
or a couple buddies who were trying to get together and just go and crush a bunch of beers
and watch some golf, like they may have almost priced themselves out a little bit of that
just complete kind of atmosphere side of things.
The first key was electric, but I think there was some missteps as well.
At the President's Cup last year, for example, they had, you know, the DJ played music
kind of in between all of the groups.
But group number one T's off, and then there was just kind of dead silence.
And the way that they built that first T structure,
it actually connects to the 18th green as well.
So it is gigantic, but it just is like a straight line,
whereas, again, at the President's Cup and at the Rider Cup in Rome, for example,
they kind of built more of like a horseshoe style thing.
So the sound from one side of it just kind of carried over to the other side
and then back forth, back forward.
So, you know, you were kind of wrapped in the ovation.
and you were wrapped in the crowd sound on that first T,
and that just was not happening this year.
The crowd sound kind of just pushed away from the guys on the T.
So between that, between the ticket prices,
and now obviously, like we talked about a couple minutes ago,
between the United States getting absolutely boat raced right now,
there's just not a lot of excitement,
and we will see if the tide's turn, obviously, in the afternoon,
and, you know, patriotism will, I'm sure, be through
roof. This is not a politics comment, but the president of the United States is going to be here
in about an hour and a half or so, and he's going to be on the first tee. So we'll see how that goes
with respect to kind of getting the crowd ramped up again. Well, I was going to ask about that.
What is the plan for that? Like, is he going to be part of the afternoon session, or is he
just showing up and being Trump? Yeah. From the sounds of it, so everybody who is entering the
first tea area has to go through what they're what they're calling tsa style security screening so that
includes the media so i don't think that they're going to have him be like trotted around kind of
anywhere on the golf course because basically then you're going to have to lock down everywhere so
they're they're kind of keeping just the first tea area pretty tight so it seems like he'll probably
go there to the first team for the afternoon matches maybe he'll shake some hands maybe he'll you know
wave wave and figure it out from there but yeah he's he's set to be here for you know for at least the
beginning of the afternoon sessions and what
what he ends up doing remains to be seen
but it sounds like he'll be around that first T for sure
maybe he'll deport some of these Europeans
that are crushing the Americans right now
exactly
that's it all these Europeans who live in
South Florida early days of what promises to be
a very exciting three days
of Beth page A Adam thanks a lot for joining
us today live on location this was great
I don't need to tell you to enjoy the rest of this
but what the hell enjoy it anyway
it should be a lot of fun yeah thanks
It's a cool atmosphere to be at for sure.
Thanks, I'll talk to you soon.
Adam Stanley, golf analyst live from Bethpage Black,
Ryder Cup, day one.
We're right in the thick of it here,
watching it in the Sportsnet.ca studios here on television.
Very exciting times.
By the way, we will put a bow maybe on the updates for a little bit,
so if someone wants to tune back into the show,
we won't be doing it.
You can tune back in now.
It's hard to tell someone who's tuned out to tune back in.
I understand the logical fallacy there,
but we're not going to do any more score.
updates for the next year. Just kidding.
JT. on Van Isle.
Here's an ask us anything. If you swapped
Petey and Heedle for
McDavid and Drysiddle, right
now, where would you power rank both teams?
Canucks would be top of the league.
Yeah. McDavid and Drysiddle
and Hughes and Hirona.
You gave the Canucks two of the best
players in the league. Would that change your ranking
of them? Well, especially since they've already
got like the number one defenseman
or, you know, at the very least, the top three defensemen.
All due respect, the question is far more interesting
for what it would do to Edmonton.
Could Edmonton make the playoffs?
Could Edmonton make the playoffs if they had Pedersen and Heedle
as their one-two centers?
The answer would be, no.
Probably not.
No.
Probably not.
And I know what everyone in listener land is probably thinking,
this is Halford and Brough taking another shot at Pedersen?
No, that's not it.
It's not.
You're talking about a team who so much of their success
is predicated on two guys.
And let's be honest, they've got Band-Aid solutions
that a lot of other positions in Edmonton, especially in goal.
That's why McDavid's worried about resigning,
standing too long in Edmonton.
By the way, did you see the news out of Florida yesterday?
And what's going on with Barkoff?
So yesterday, there was some very concerning news out of Florida
as their captain Alexander Barkoff needed to be helped off the ice
after sustaining an injury to his right leg
during the first full training camp practice
that veterans showed up for
for the two-time defending Stanley Cup champs.
Now, when I say right leg,
the immediate concern was his knee.
There was a couple reports out there,
I believe one from Cam Robinson from elite prospects,
who said that the initial fear was
three of the worst letters that you can imagine
associated with the knee, ACL,
and that Barkoff might have done his ACL.
There's no reports yet.
Paul Maurice was very tight-lipped in the aftermath.
All he said was, quote,
I'll have a better answer for you tomorrow, which is Friday, which is now today.
And I mentioned the Panthers have already been in camp for an entire week.
They've made a bunch of cuts.
But yesterday was the first day that the veterans took part.
So it was really Barkoff's first time participating in training camp.
We will monitor the situation and see what happens.
That would be a massive blow for a team that is already going to be without Matthew Kachuk
going into the season.
Now, if there's any team,
that has the depth to withstand the loss of their captain
and I guess their second best player, I would say.
Their best players, Barkoff, in my opinion.
Their second best player is Kachuk.
I think it might be Ryan Hurd.
Okay, anyway, but let's say.
They got a lot of good players.
Whatever the case, I think it's kind of illustrates the point.
This is a team that would be able to withstand it.
It'll just be interesting to see where they fall.
They're going to fall in the standings because of this,
especially if Barkoff's out, how tough the first few months of the season will be for them
if they're without Barkoff and Kich.
Okay, I hope I'm pronouncing this right.
I think it's GDio, Texan.
How big would it be for Canada to win the Women's World Cup for Canada with rugby,
especially for the girls who will be looking for big sponsors?
I don't know.
I have no idea if this would just be, I don't want to call it like a flash-in-the-pan event.
It would just be like, great.
And then we wouldn't talk about it.
Because, like, this Canadian women's rugby team has been good for a while.
This is not like, wow, they're good.
They have been good.
And they haven't received all that much attention.
Yeah.
I think the thing to focus on, really, is not what would happen after this match, even if they win.
How about just the experience for these women?
When they first started playing rugby, I'm sure people were like, you're playing rugby?
And now they will be playing in one of the catheteries.
of rugby in front of 82,000 people or whatever against England for the World Cup.
I mean, that is, like, you could never, you could never have imagined that.
So, if you were starting, if you were starting to play women's rugby in Canada, I think,
and I hope that obviously they win, but I hope that most of all, they just enjoy the
experience and like take some pride in the fact that they are playing in this big game in this
atmosphere now that being said really cool not being said jidio does bring up a good point here
because Canada's women's rugby team had to crowd fund to the tune of nearly a million dollars
to finance this trip to the rugby world cup like women's rugby is in a position where we
talked with
I forget Will Owen from Squidge Rugby
early in the week. And I asked him at the end of the hit, I said,
where is professional women's rugby at in terms of
levels in Europe? And he said that they have a
Premier League in England, they play some high level
women's rugby in France. There's still
that gap between fully professional and
semi-professional. And I think that is a far cry
from where some of the Canadian women are, because
the ones that probably ply their trade in Europe, we're doing
it at a semi-pro level. And there's other ones where
it's just they're doing it.
And there's very little funding coming outside of rugby Canada.
There's very little funding coming from anywhere.
So the idea here, part of this story absolutely is that they are doing this on the backs of a lot of crowdfunding.
And they would like to probably get past that and have the funding where they could focus on things like training and preparing for matches and doing video analysis and all those other things that go into these high level tournaments.
The fact that Canada is playing at the level they're playing at.
going into this tournament with the limited resources that they have is a real marvel, right?
And we talked to Will about it's, they've almost revolutionized the way the women's game is played
because they play it so fast and they take so many risks.
It was funny, we had a couple texters earlier in the week into the Dunbar Lumber text message in Basket saying,
you know, when you talk to Will about this, talk about the style that Canada plays because it is a bit revolutionary
in how quickly they approach the game.
And then I asked them, I said, you know, is it the individual speed of the players or
was in a tactical thing
where they move the ball quickly
and his answer was both.
They're just fast.
They like to turn on the chats.
I'll be curious to see how they do
in that atmosphere
because that's where you need
your sure-handedness.
You can't be like
a lot of pressure on
every, you know.
A lot of pressure on Saturday.
Every phase.
Ask us anything from Austin in Langley
after seeing how promising
the young Canucks defensemen are
and how we seem to have a few good ones.
Are you more or less
willing to give one up in a trade it depends like it depends who's the player coming back who's the
player but I don't I really don't want to give up DPD that's number one and I think Mancini
actually might be number two right now but that's probably unfair to Vlander because he hasn't had as
much pro experience he hasn't had any pro experience and someone texted in earlier in the show and I'll
See if I can find it.
Oh, it's from the Bar Smasher.
Okay.
Do you think Tom Vielander regrets having that mini-contract standoff
before deciding not to go to Abbotsford last season?
I can't help but wonder if that was a fairly significant lost learning experience for him at the pro level.
I wonder that too.
He would have been able to get his feet wet at the pro level and no more or less
of what to expect
and maybe got to know
some of the guys on the team as well.
I see it as an opportunity loss
but I don't see it as a developmental setback.
He's 20.
No, no, it's not a setback.
It just might be a lost opportunity there
because I think he has gotten progressively better
as camp in the exhibition season has started.
I guess my counterpoint would have been
I don't think that that experience in Abbotsford
would have given him such a decided advantage to make the team this year.
I also think that the right developmental path for him
is to go play some professional games in the American League level.
It's a big jump, playing two years of BU
and then trying to jump into an NHL lineup on the blue line.
Now, back to the original question,
I would almost rephrase it, Austin and Langley,
after seeing how promising the young defensemen are,
are you willing to give up one in a trade?
How about any defenseman?
Any defenseman on the roster?
Because I'll circle back to what I said,
I think it was on yesterday's show.
I do wonder if the good showings by Mancini this preseason and DPD last season
would make them more amenable to a change on the blue line where they could move a guy out
and make a significant addition to the forward group.
Who would you move out?
Who are you talking about?
I wonder, I hate saying it out loud because I think it should, I wonder, I always wonder
about Hronick.
Yeah, he's got a full no move class.
I know.
I always wonder about Hronick, though.
I wonder if there's something there that they could do.
And this is more...
It's really hard with the full no-move clause
because he just controls that situation
and even if you go like,
for sure, you want to trade you.
And some players are like,
if you want to trade me, trade me
because I don't want to play for a team
that doesn't want me.
But I am going to screw you on this deal.
I am going to limit your options
and I'm going to make sure that everyone knows
that I am going to limit your options.
My agent is going to put it out
there, then I'm willing to go to this one team and one team only, then good luck.
Yeah, it could happen.
Like, there's no question about that.
You could be, it could be really in a position of, like, having little to no sway there.
The other guy, I mean, and then you're not going to move Myers, Patterson.
You know, they've all got no move.
They've all, they're all ironclad.
Yeah.
But again, I think Tyler Myers has, he's got a modified no trade clause next seat.
It's this feels like a deal that if you were going to do it, you would have to broker it over the summer or you had more time and you were away from it and everything.
Don't you think they might have to, you know, wait on the Quinn Hughes situation before they make any decisions on the defenseman?
I feel like if if they get a month or so into the season and things are rolling, which is very possible if everyone stays healthy and the goaltending tandem pans out and they're scoring enough, I just wonder if they're going to, you know, kick it in overdrive and be like, we're going to try and make a go of it here and try and, because this.
The problem at center is a problem.
I don't even think if you get this pie in the sky idea
where Pedersen returns to form
and Heidel plays at his top capabilities,
I still don't think it's a great one-to-center punch.
You'd rather have Heedle at 3C?
I think a good...
Or even on the wing?
Even on the wing, maybe.
I think a high-calibur, good contending team
does not have Heedle as a 2C.
That's where I would say.
He's either a 3-series on the wing.
Or, I mean, who's the 3-C right now?
Bluger, Ratu, take your pick.
Those guys are four Cs.
A good contending team doesn't have those guys as three Cs or four Cs or
seem to be strongly considering putting an 18-year-old in the lineup either.
And I understand what I'm saying.
I understand that throwing out these guys that have no movement clauses.
Although in a couple of years, Coots could be a significant player.
It could be this year.
Well, I don't think significant, but like could be in a few years.
Anyway, we got to go to break.
Moge is coming up next.

so did anything interesting happen in the canadian football league this week i don't know
something about some rule changes so i heard um yeah dollywell told me he's got to
a, he's got a rant about it.
Oh, God.
He's got a Nathan Rourke related rant.
I imagine the phrase good Canadian kid is going to come up.
I'm going to let Moge go.
Morge, the floor is yours.
What did you think of the rule changes?
Well, first off, if you're looking at each individual rule change,
I don't think there's really that much concern from my perspective.
Now, the concern for a lot of people is, is this the beginning of an Americanization of the game?
My whole issue with this is how flawed the process was, right?
I mean, you exclude your major stakeholders in coaches, in players,
and general managers from the process.
I'm not a fan of that.
I think any time you have any sort of proper leadership,
they have all their stakeholders invested.
I mean, look at the Kinex.
What was the first thing Adam Foote talked about when he took over?
Oh, I had to meet with PD Demko and, you know,
you know, Hughes, and we talked about a contract between the players and the team, all of that stuff, right?
And meanwhile, the CFL goes up and makes these major changes, and they don't even bother talking to, you know, a Dave Dickinson or a Mike O'Shea or a Nathan Rourke or a bully by Mitchell or whatever, right?
So to me, the process was flawed.
That way, it's also flawed in the sense that, you know, there are people that have pointed out, well, look at all the changes.
Major League Baseball put in the pitch count.
They did this. They did that. Like, you know, all the other sports and their changes.
but for the most part, all those other sports had trial periods with their changes.
I mean, the pitch clock was in the minors for, what, a season or two.
So why not propose some of these changes and maybe go to the BC Junior Football League and say,
hey, we'll give you X amount of dollars to help cover offset some of these costs.
Do you guys want to run these changes?
You know, have some sort of data that they can go off of.
But they didn't do that either.
So, Moja, I think that, like, this is not me defending it because
I agree with you
but I wonder if they
just felt like if we do that
it's going to get bogged down
the changes aren't going to happen
or they'll be watered down
and we have to act
like dictators right now
and just be like we're getting this done
this is happening because
this league
maybe
they felt that there was some urgency to get
these changes done
you're going with we just lost moge brother we'll get him back bob the i thought he was just like so
blow it like i just blew his mind yeah you're going with the uh too many cook spoils the soup
yeah i was going with like the way china does it yeah it just get changes you know you got
a road through here but i live here yep sure are uh yeah no it's it's an interesting moj we got
you back now yeah okay sorry uh brev was theorizing do you want to reset everything there
did you hear any of me moj yeah i heard
Probably about the first 10 seconds of your rant.
It was basically like we're making these changes and we're making them now and we don't want them to get bogged down.
Maybe was there an urgency at the league level to get something done?
Well, that's the big question.
Why the urgency?
Why announce this in the middle of the season?
Now the tinfoil hat people, they're saying, you know, that they've got the TV contract coming up.
They're going to have this.
I don't think that's tin foil.
I don't think that that's a big deal, man.
This next TV contract, and I've got to be a little careful here, but like it is massive
because we all know that Bell has been pulling away from sports.
So are they still going to be interested in this?
Who is going to pay the money that TSN currently pays the CFL right now?
because that is a big revenue, obviously, for the league.
Yeah, and, you know, it's a lot of people, like I said, are concerned about that.
I don't think people are overly up in arms, and there are a few, don't get me wrong.
But for the most part, the rule changes themselves.
You kind of go, okay, whatever, right?
But I think the bigger concern for a lot of people is, is this the start of the game becoming an Americanized?
Are we looking at a four-down league in, say, three or four years?
Do you think it is?
And Stu Johnston saying all the right things, but I'll leave it at this.
He's a former executive at Bell Media.
I'll leave it at that.
We're speaking of Bob the Moge Marjanovic here on the Alfred & Brough Show on Sportsnet 650.
Let's talk about the on-field product as it pertains to the B.C. line.
So Moge doesn't get his Christmas cards anymore from Bell Media.
Do any of us?
No, no. I don't think you guys do either.
No. No, you know what? We don't.
No. I still give one, though.
Yeah, it is. It's important to send one out.
It is every year.
Okay, let's talk about the BC Lions, the on-field product.
When we talk about the offense, we have to talk about the guys responsible for putting up the points.
Nathan Rourke, all the running backs, all the receivers.
But let's give some love to the O-line here, Moge.
Yeah, I wanted to actually do you to call them this week on the O-line.
And, you know, it's fascinating because last year this was a much maligned group.
So much so the general manager, Ryan Rick Maiden, went out and made a priority in the offseason, upgrade the unity.
He went out and got Dijon Allen from the Toronto Organauts who had won the most outstanding lineman in the CFL a couple of years ago.
He got beaten out last year by Ryan Hunter as a team nominee, and Hunter winds up winning the award.
So it tells you the level of offensive line play that they had in Toronto.
But here's the thing.
It's like this group comes in this year.
Alan gets hurt after the third game.
He basically tears his tricep.
And then after that, you know, it's just mixing and matching and trying to get some, you know, getting a cohesive unit.
They've had nine different starting combinations and they haven't missed a beat.
So I kind of dug deep into what these guys are doing to allow themselves to have that type of success with that type of change, right?
I mean, 10 different linemen suiting up, as I mentioned, nine different combinations, starting combinations of five linemen.
and it was really interesting hearing their process.
So the way it starts off usually is the offensive line coach,
Paul Sharbano will meet with the centers in Michael Cochere and Andrew Pearson.
So they meet and they look over the film and they look over the calls.
And then when the group meets, like the entire group,
it's Coachure and Pearson that run the meetings.
And Charbonneau's reasoning is pretty easy.
He says, I'm not on the field.
So why should I be the one communicating with these guys and making the calls?
So what they do then is they look at the film, they look at the front,
Coachure makes his call, and the guards will make their calls on the tackles.
And sometimes it might be the backup guard or the backup tackle.
And Cochure's talked about the fact that in the past,
it's only the starting five that are kind of actively involved in these meetings.
But the Lions have everybody actively involved in these meetings.
And as a result, everyone's invested, everybody's ready.
And, you know, the thing is, when most guys get out there,
they've had the mental reps, so to speak.
So it's been a great story, I think, for a team, like I said,
least amount of sacks in the CFL 14.
and you look at all the numbers, most points per game, most yardage per game.
And like I said, a group for the most part that's relatively unchanged from last year.
Let's turn our attention to the National Football League now.
Last night, Thursday night football, Seahawks, a little too close for comfort,
but a win's a win, especially on the road.
What do you think of the 23 to 20 win over?
The walk-off field goal against the Cardinals in Arizona last night.
You know, I was talking to a friend of mine, probably, I don't know,
whenever the Seahawks were leading by two touchdown.
So I guess what, the start of the fourth quarter?
Midway. They were up 20 to 6
midway through the fourth quarter. I'm like, we're sitting there talking
and like, how bad is Arizona?
I go, how did they win two football games, right?
I mean, you look at them, and they're nothing special on offense.
Now, clearly they didn't have James Connor.
But man, the Cardinals all of a sudden,
they kind of, you know, wake up a little bit offensively
to put some points on the board.
And, you know, you talk about the importance of a kicker, right?
I mean, had Myers hit that field goal earlier,
I mean, everything would have been, you know,
for not in terms of the comeback,
because it would have put the Seahawks up there.
Instead, he has to come out and nail a game-winning walk-off field goal.
And it's ironic because, you know, it's funny how you look at penalties and how they impact games.
If you recall the Lions game in Montreal this year, there's a penalty on the point after Montreal was penalized on the kickoff.
Lions gained that extra field position off the kickoff and wound up getting a Sean White walkoff field goal.
In this instance, it's a penalty on Arizona for the ball not landing within the 20-yard area, and they wind up getting penalized.
and, of course, those yards came in handy for the Seahawks
as they wind up kicking a game-winning field goal.
We spoke with Nick Shook from NFL.com earlier about the Ravens' Chiefs game this weekend,
but I didn't even think of, but you brought up a good point.
I mentioned that both are one and two,
but the reality is one of these teams is going to be one and three after this weekend,
which is now where either thought they would be going into this season.
I mean, what are the odds that, you know, especially the Ravens?
You can understand the Chiefs a little bit because of the injuries that they've had at receiver,
but man, for one of these teams
to drop to one and three,
and both of them obviously have Super Bowl aspirations,
they are going to be in a major,
major hole.
For me, the bigger concerns, Kansas City.
I mean, obviously lacking some pieces on offense
and hoping to get some bodies back,
but until they do,
it is basically all Patrick Mahomes, right?
I mean, he's going to be the guy that's going to have to carry this
offense and do special things.
Where with the Ravens, you know,
I think, you know, you still have Jackson,
you still have Henry,
and receiving weapons as well.
So to me, with the Ravens, it's not as bad.
I think the Ravens might be able to outscore their mistakes.
I don't think the Chiefs can.
I'm a little worried about both.
When we had Nick on, I was talking about the Ravens,
how they got shoved around on Monday Night Football,
which is so bizarre to see at home,
wearing the all-black uniforms,
just getting the ball run down their throats.
But you bring up a good point with Kansas City
is it feels like they've never really figured out
how to get that offense back on track the last couple seasons.
always left to Mahomes to try and figure something out on his own.
And I just wonder at what point when that maybe becomes a little bit too much for him.
Yeah, I mean, you know, there's a lot of pressure.
I mean, right now, Patrick Mahomes, he's dealing with a lot of pressure.
He's dealing with the fact that he has to carry his team.
So it's going to be interesting to see.
You made a great point about the Ravens and, you know, their run defense.
Here's a Baltimore team of franchise that it's like, you know,
if you think Ravens over the years, what do you think?
You think defense, right?
You think Ray Lewis, you think Ed Reed, right?
And here's a team that they can't stop anybody right now.
So, yeah, it's going to be a very interesting game,
and I'm looking forward to watching,
and I think it should be a doozy.
Are you guys doing the pregame shows live on location still?
Yes, bells and whistles.
We were there yesterday.
Justin and East Van has an ask us anything for you.
What's your go-to order at Bells and Whistles after the pre-game shows?
I have the Royale burger yesterday.
It was good.
I had one on Monday.
We were there on Monday.
It's good.
It was worth it.
So there's your call.
I've had the Royale.
I've had some other things, but mainly the Royale.
The royals are the go-to-to-it-dels-wistle.
Justin, there's your answer.
Moj, thanks for doing this today, buddy.
We really appreciate it.
That's all the only food question I get today?
I didn't have another one in the chamber.
Usually we only do one.
All right, don't worry about it, fellas.
Moge, Moge, can I ask you a sports question?
Yeah.
Pederson's going to be playing tonight in an exhibition game.
What are your expectations for him?
That's kind of the question we've thrown out there.
What do you want to see from him?
Well, I think what everybody wants to see is probably the ability to be stronger in puck battles.
You probably want to see a burst as well, obviously.
You want to see that burst in terms of his skating.
You know, he's talking about gaining six kilos and being stronger.
Well, let's see how you play when you're in a physical situation, like on a one-on-one.
And to me, that's probably the two things I'd look for
is to see if he's stronger on the puck
and the other one is to see if he's got a burst in his skating.
I mean, you know, that's the big thing
that everyone's talked about the last couple of years.
So we'll see.
And then, of course, you know, it's kind of funny.
Where do you start with Pedersen, right?
You probably want to, I mean, a lot of people probably talking about the shot as well.
So it's all intertwined.
Yeah, it is.
It's all intertwined that you know that they're mentally, physically, everything.
Yeah.
So it'll be interesting to see because
there's a lot at stake with the Canucksus here
in terms of how they fare
and a lot of that, of course,
is based on how Pedersen plays.
Moj, you're the best. Have a great weekend, buddy. Good sports weekend.
Okay, fellas, take care. Have a great weekend. See ya, pal.
Bob the Mojimaj Marjanovitch here on the Halford & Bruff Show
on Sportsnet, 650.
Let's do some Ask Us Anythings.
Can I read one that's...
Is it an Ask Us Anything? It is.
It's a little down in the gutter, I would spend...
Okay, well, I don't.
I don't know. You tell me, it's from Plop, which is appropriate considering the question.
Good morning, Plop. Ask us anything. I'm teaching my son how to potty train, and my wife is trying to teach him how to wipe.
Okay.
She shows him how sitting, but I'm a stand to wipe guy.
Wait.
What say you? Can you repeat that last part again?
Is there a social standard on this? And I replied to him.
WTF you stand and then he replied by your response I'm guessing there is a social standard
and I should probably keep this to myself also it's just the way I learned never thought to
do it the other way it's the way my father did it his father before him we're all standers
stand white family son I've never heard of this either I've never heard of this I've never heard of
anyone admitting it.
And Alford's a stand wiper.
Helper's a standard for sure.
Found the stand wiper.
Plop, we're coming for you.
And now we've got to imagine this.
Like, the visual is not what I need to, you know,
7.49 in the morning.
I didn't know that this was even a thing.
Honestly, I had no idea.
This is a true morning show.
Like, these crazy guys will talk about anything.
Should we do a poll question?
Is there any advice to be had for something that nobody does?
Justin and East Van
Ask us anything
And this comes on the heels of the Canucks
Doing their Media Day photo shoots
And I'm not sure if anyone saw
Some of them on social media
But Quinn Hughes
Was
Photographed sitting backwards in a chair
Like
The Substitute Teacher just wanted to wrap with the kids
Yeah
So he asks
Is sitting in a chair backwards
Still considered cool?
I think the
probably the goat
of backwards chair sitting
and you might disagree or agree with me
was A.C. Slater.
A.C. Slater is the undisputed king of backwards chair sitting.
Yeah. He did it better than anyone.
I don't think anyone will ever do it better than that.
How do you do, fellow kids?
I don't think anyone will sit in a chair backwards
and maybe at the same time, sometimes
hat backwards,
at the same time as the chair backwards
It just goes to show society
It was like
I realize that
You want me to sit
In a certain way
And wear my hat in a certain way
But
You can't put me in a box
Why don't you try it right now
Do it on the stream
Sit backwards in your chair
Put your hat backwards
We've done this photo
See how it feels
Oh wow
Look at that
It's like a youth pastor
Just walked in
No no no I can't do that
I will have a groin injury real quick
I just want to see what it looks like
No it's like they're big chairs
See if we can do it
No I'm not going to do it
But my hat is back
backwards because you know what i don't i don't care man i don't care what society thinks i'm gonna do
what i think is cool there's a very famous hockey card back in the early 90s an upper deck card
and steve eisenman is wearing an hlpa letterman's jacket everyone knows the type i'm talking about right
it's like the football letterman's jacket that says nchlpa now the trick here is that he's sitting
backwards on the chair
but the picture is taken from the back
so he's actually looking over his shoulder
it's a total new spin
on the backwards chair
do you know the card I don't know the car
but no one's ever looked cooler than
the Pavel Burray rollerblade card
right there's no chair involved in the cooler looking
that's the coolest hockey card that's ever existed
oh Eric Lindross taking batting practice with the Toronto
Blue Jays I think it was like a score
1993 maybe that's a good one
as well. We're really off topic now. Man, there's a lot of texts about the standing.
Are you kidding me? Tons. Fish dancer. I grew up a sitter. As I got older, I find it put less
strain of my body to stand and wipe. I don't want to pull a muscle. And then someone
texts in, I stand to wipe. Who the heck sits in wipes? 99% of the world. There's a lot
of standers. Alex and Coquitlam. This is shocking information to me. This is. This is
The Phoenix text it in.
Plop sits to pee, though.
Honestly, that is kind of,
it's a bit relaxing sometimes,
especially in the middle of the night.
Yeah.
I'm going in there for a sit.
Like his father and his father before him.
Okay.
We got a lot more to get to
on the Halford & Brough show on SportsNet 650.
It's a final hour of the program on a Friday.
If it couldn't get any more off the rails,
we got Rick Dollywall coming up next.
Dolly, what's your stance on this subject?
And that's going to lead to some hilarity
as it often does.
a reminder, we are giving away
a $100 gift card to AJ's
pizza on East Broadway for the
best, ask us anything.
Hashtag at AUA, Dunbar Lumber
text line is 650, 650, 650.
Put a pizza emoji into your text. It's the only
way you can win. Finally, we're going to get
into some Canucks preseason coverage
with Dolly Wall coming up.
I feel like there's more text coming in.
Jay has plop tried wiping
while sitting backwards on the toilet.
Nope, there's a hat backwards
wipe coming up.
You walk in there, you're like,
that guy's pretty cool.
He does look pretty cool.
One texter, I kneel and wipe.
Canucks preseason coverage.
During the national anthem, too, which makes it controversial.
Wow, saluting.
All saluting.
