You're listening to the best of Halford and Brough.
I'm taken away by Brett.
He's in all alone, just for Brad.
Game on the line.
Backhand scored.
It happened last year, happened this year.
to those guys in LAT, so
just this is fun and me myself.
You just got to dig in. Like, if there's a puck
between you and I, I'm going to break your
leg to get the puck. If you knock us down,
we're going to get up, and on the way up,
we're going to buy the kneecap off.

Big show ahead on a Friday. Lots to get into as we set you up for the weekend.
A lot of guests to get to as well.
It begins at 6.30 this morning.
Nick Shook, our NFL insider, a regular from NFL.com, is going to join the program.
Another real dog, not you dogs, like a bad dog.
Thursday night or last night.
I guess it was a good football game if you like mistakes and minimal offense.
Broncos beat the Raiders, 10-7.
What a Barnberg.
Yeah, I'm glad I haven't had to watch any Broncos games this year.
They're good, but their games, I guess they can have some interesting endings,
but for the most part, pretty low scoring.
They are a gross seven and two, which you don't hear very often,
but a gross seven and two.
We'll talk to Nick Shook about that.
That will also preview the weekend Sunday of NFL action with Nick Shook from NFL.com
at 6.30. 7 o'clock, AJ from AJ's Pizza on East Broadway.
This is your first reminder that it is ask us anything Friday.
on the program. The best ask us
anything gets a $100 gift card to
AJ's pizza on East Broadway.
Hashtag it, AUA. Put a
pizza emoji into your text. Dumbar Lumber
text line is 6.50.
At 7.30 this morning,
J.C. Abbott is going to join the
program. BC Lions reported for
Three Down Nation. It is the Western
final in the Canadian Football League on
Saturday. Lions hit the road
to take on the Saskatchewan Rough Riders
in Regina. They will look to get
past Saskatchewan on the road and make
get to their first grade cup since
2011. So that's
what's at stake for the Lions this weekend.
We'll preview the game with J.C. Abbott from
3-down Nation at 7.30.
At 8 o'clock, we have
Intrepid Canucks reporter, Rick Dollywall
from Donnie and Dolly on Check TV.
For more, I now turn things over
to our resident Rick Dollywall tour guide,
Jason Brough. Well, one of the things that
Dolly wants to talk about is not
the Vancouver Canucks. It's not
the BC Lions.
It's the Vancouver Whitecaps
and MLS Commissioner
Don Garber's visit to
Vancouver and there's going to be a press conference
today in Vancouver as
Garber comes to town
amidst Whitecaps
frenzy and he tries to take advantage
of that frenzy by
lobbying
politicians and business
people and trying to get some sort
of stadium solution for the whitecaps
because they are not
quote
sustainable
end quote
in this market
considering the
BC place lease
Rick sent me a picture of himself
wearing a Vancouver Whitecaps jersey
the Navy blue one with the gold jersey
Yeah I was like please tell me you're wearing
I was going to say I've since blocked his number
Yeah I'm like this is this picture is about the jersey right
Anyway uh
Youhoo
Rick is very excited about the Vancouver whitecaps
still traversing the cable landscape
And we'll work through it together
you know what the best part about texting with Rick is
is we have the buddy pal thing down
he calls me pal I call him buddy
and we end every text with that
does he spell it right sometimes
sometimes he does
sometimes he doesn't which is tough because there's three letters
the rare buddy with one D
no no no I call him buddy
you're the buddy guy he gets the shorter word
for a variety of reasons anyway
that's working in reverse on that guest list
8 o'clock dolly wall 730
Abbott 7 o'clock AJ 630

We have a pair of tickets to give away to Monday's game against.
the Everett Silver Tips, Monday November 10th, 7 p.m. Puck drop at the Langley
Events Center. That one is going to be at 7.30. Don't worry. I'll do my best to remind
you. The number here, though, 604-280650. That number again, 604-280-650. Caller
number five for both contests will win the tickets this morning. Okay, that's what's
happening on the program today. Laddie, let's tell everybody what happened.
Hey, did you guys see the game last night? No.
No, what happened? I missed all the action because of
We know how busy your life can be.
What happened?
You missed that?
What happened?
What happened is brought to you by the BC Construction Safety Alliance.
Making safety simpler by giving construction companies the best in tools, resources, and safety training.
Visit them online at BCCSA.ca.com.
We will begin with the Vancouver Canucks, although there's not a ton of report from the Vancouver Canucks,
who had Thursday off ahead of a busy weekend.
They play Saturday at home against Columbus.
They play Sunday at home.
It's Colorado, and they will practice this morning at 11 a.m. Jason, ahead of those two games.
Yeah, so we'll see if Teddy Bluger or Derek Forbort are on the ice participating in practice
and whether or not there are a possibility for games this weekend.
The Canucks got their two most important players back already in Quinn Hughes and Connor Garland
and then lost to the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Kinecks P.K. has been a weakness so far at just 68%.
So, you know, when we were waiting for Hughes and Garland to get back,
we're like, those are their only playdrivers.
So we said play drivers a lot, play drivers.
Yes, a lot of play driving.
Now it's PK.
You've got to get the PK back.
And operating at a solid clip like it was late last season.
Now, one of the issues,
with the PKK is that some of the guys they lost, they ain't coming back because
Pew Suter is in St. Louis and Dakota Joshua is in Toronto.
Suter was a really good, really good penalty killer.
Like elite penalty killer in the league when it comes to forwards and they're not going
to get him back.
So this PK could be, I don't know what it's going to be like, but it needs to be better.
These next three games in four nights are going to be tough for the Vancouver Canucks.
it would be nice to get off to a good start
Saturday against arguably the weakest of the three teams
the jackets are seven and six
they're not six and seven kids
they're seven and six
they've lost two in a row
including 5-1 Wednesday in Columbus so
they're actually in a pretty similar situation
to the Canucks like they're treading water
they should be
motivated for Saturday's game
because they probably see the Canucks as like
hey we can beat these guys
these guys.
An exciting statistic to go into that match with
the second and third worst
penalty kills in the National Hockey League.
The second worst, of course,
you're Vancouver Canucks,
operating at a smooth 68%
clip, barely ahead of them at 68.4
the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Do you know who has the worst penalty kill
in the NHL?
You tell me.
Travis Green's Ottawa Senators.
Is Greener ever had issues
with the PK before?
Seriously, got him run out of here.
Him and Bomber.
And a PD slump
That's true
They got
He got double whack
It's nice to know that that never ever
Ever happened again though
It was a one-time thing under Travis Green here
And it never happened again
I really
At the risk of looking past the blue jackets
I really want to see how the Canucks stack up
Against the Aves
I think the abs are in Edmonton
Saturday night when the Canucks are
Playing the Blue Jackets
So they might not be like
100% when they play the Canucks
but Colorado has only lost once in regulation this season
and I think are the consensus top team in the league right now.
A few of you might think otherwise,
but I think most people look at this league right now
and go look at the way that Colorado's playing.
Those guys are unbelievable.
Nathan McKinnon, what, he has something.
Last time I looked at the,
he has like 10 goals and 10 assists or something like that
and Kel McCar is up there.
Marty Natchez just got paid.
and, you know, so he's playing well.
They just, they just play so fast, especially McKinnon and McCar.
Tell me about what happened last night in the NHL
because I saw some very interesting post-game interviews.
Dobish, the goalie in Montreal, was crying after the game,
and Ryan O'Reilly.
of the Nashville Predators seem to be in some sort of shame spiral.
It was a very, it wasn't a shame spiral.
It was a very emotional evening in the National Hockey League.
There were nine games across the league,
and clearly a couple of guys just couldn't deal with a late week loss
in the beginning of November.
It was too much, especially for Yakubovish, who you mentioned.
So the story there is that in New Jersey,
Esper Brought, and I believe you played the goal in the intro, Laddie.
Scored on a breakaway, 133 in overtime,
Devil's Rally for a 4-3 win against the Habs in New Jersey.
New Jersey becomes the first team to 10 wins this season.
So, like, a good team.
No shame in losing to them, especially in their barn in overtime.
But Yakub Dobish took this one to heart.
Now, before I play this audio, and it is a bit uncomfortable
because the young man is not on the verge of tears.
He's in the midst of them.
Prior to this game, Dobish was a perfect.
6-0-0 with a 197 goals against a 9-30 save percentage.
All great numbers.
A young goalie, young check goalies played extremely well this season.
However, the 24-year-old became very emotional when speaking with the media post-game,
blaming himself for the loss.
At the risk of upsetting, Bruff, who doesn't like these sort of cringy, awkward moments
and how long they get drawn out.
I don't like hearing grown men cry.
Well, you're about to hear it.
Here's Jacob Dobish.
very upset following a 4-3 overtime lost in New Jersey.
We played good enough to win.
Just not good enough from my side.
I don't know.
Really hard.
Yeah.
This is the tough one?
Yeah.
Any reason for sure it's a lost,
but any specific reason you feel so disappointed.
You feel personally, you were good.
Can you just explain your feeling right now?
I mean, it just sucks.
You know, last year they, no enough.
Just, it happened last year, it happened this year.
You know, lose those guys in O.T.
So just disappointed in myself.
Just pretty much it.
You take it personally.
Yeah.
I don't know what to be.
make of that. I don't know what to make of that. I know that the natural instinct on this show
is to make fun of everything. It's a defense mechanism, some say. Game 12? It's a lot. Like I said,
I don't know what's going on. I don't know what's going on. But it was, so Mike Morial,
who we've had on the show before from NHL.com. Didn't even lose in regulation. I know.
I got him to the overtime. You know, and then yes, for rats scored on a breakaway. And obviously,
a bunch of the Habs players jumped to Dobish's defense. It's not his fault. Mike Morial, who we've
on the show before from nchl.com is based out of
New Jersey, he was working the Prudential Center for the game.
He said, on social
media, and I quote, don't know
if I've ever seen this before.
But Montreal rookie goalie Yakub Tobish,
who entered this game 6-0 and O
was literally in tears blaming himself
for the Canadian's loss.
He then said that we, the media,
tried to console him, telling him
to keep his head up.
Kid is putting so much pressure on himself.
I'll just leave that
one as that's a thing that happened last
night and a jumping off point to some other post-game audio, which really caught people's
attention.
And this one was from a more veteran presence, Nashville Predators Center, Ryan O'Reilly.
Again, in a game in which he scored his team's only goal, Ryan O'Reilly met with members
of the media after a 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Now, this game was at home in Nashville.
There was a third consecutive loss for the Preds, who were off to a really lousy start.
They're 5, 7, and 4.
Things are not going well.
And Ryan O'Reilly, in a scathing self-critique,
took himself the task in the post-game media availability.
Here's what that sounded like Ryan O'Reilly
after a 3-1 loss to Philadelphia.
You can't make a 6-4 pass to save my life.
So I was not going to have much success if, you know,
I'm playing pathetic like that.
So it's stupid.
I don't know the answer.
I've had one good year in my career.
I don't know
I'm going to answer
that's for sure.
Did the reporters,
no,
you've had more
good years than that.
Come on,
man.
Mike Morial sprinted over there.
He's like,
I know all about
boosting guys' confidence.
I just did it with Dolbish.
The line.
Ryan O'Reilly was named
the third star of the night.
Can you imagine he came out
for a twirl in Nashville for that?
For those of you that couldn't hear
it because it was a bit muffled,
he said,
I know for myself,
the number one center,
I just turn the puck over everywhere
and can't make a six foot pass to save my life.
We're not going to have much success
if I'm playing pathetic like that.
I don't know the answer.
Now this is the crazy part.
I watch this game.
This is the crazy part.
He said,
I've only had one good year in my career.
I don't have any answers.
That's for sure.
Does he mean team-wise?
I think he means the year that he won the cup
in St. Louis.
Yeah, that's obviously.
That's obviously.
Because he won the consulate and the Selky.
Yeah.
I almost wanted to run down there.
I'm like, you've had other good years.
That was his best year.
In fair enough.
It was his best year, but he's only one.
Yeah, he said more than one good year.
I don't like.
Ryan, you've had at least two.
I don't like high level achievers like Ryan O'Reilly.
Because I'm like, what have I done?
I haven't even had a good year in my life.
Not compared to Ryan O'Reilly.
Guys, I think we've got a real problem with perfectionism here.
You think that's it.
Do you think that's it?
I think a lot of these guys are perfectionists.
Without trying to psychoanalyze two guys that we don't know.
And it just took a snippet of their medium.
I mean, would that not go hand in hand with being a professional athlete?
You're the very best at what you do.
So naturally, you want to maintain that perfection, level of perfection, right?
Yes.
But if you read into the psychology of it, there's good perfectionism and there's bad perfectionism.
Also, yeah.
Also, another thing I've always told, always been told is that these guys throughout their entire careers up to this point, have always been the top player by far.
on their teams.
Very good point.
Until they reach the NHL, obviously.
Now, the question I have is, I don't know,
I don't know if that has anything to do
with a goalie nearly breaking down in teams.
Well, they're not used to struggling.
They're not used to adversity like this
because they've always been the best.
The crazy part is that Dolbys well into his NHL career.
The interesting part is when you kind of pull back the veil
and you show the vulnerability.
Because part of this, and especially in hockey,
is when you talk to the media,
what do you say we got to be better we got to win more puck battles we got to you know battle harder in front of the net and all the cliches that the rookie symposium teaches you to say so that the reporters write things and scribble down on their notebook and then they walk away it's just very interesting then on the same night and two guys there are if you want to talk about the sort of opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of their NHL accomplishments dobbish a rookie who's just learning the ropes Ryan O'Reilly who's as veteran as anyone in the NHL
Maybe it just speaks to how much pressure these guys are under on a regular basis and how sometimes they feel it.
J. Texan with an Ask Us Anything, and it is Ask Us Anything Friday on the Halford & Brough Show.
$100 gift card to AJ's at stake for the best Ask Us Anything.
J. Texan, when is the last time you cried?
1987.
When is the last time I cried?
I don't cry very often.
Last Saturday.
Right.
This morning in the parking lot.
No, I don't.
I'm not a crier.
to be, I probably should cry more.
Everybody hurts.
I've been told
that I sometimes keep
my feelings inside and then they
come out eventually.
Who are you?
Darkness, my old friend.
Now, that's perfectly healthy. Everyone should do that.
What's that? Just bottle your feelings.
Keep it all of all the time.
Yeah, until you explode and throw something out of everything.
And if you feel like you're going to cry, just
clench your jaw
as tight as you can.
That is the healthy way to do it.
And then let it out an appropriate time.
Like when daddy hit the empire with a beer bottle.
Remember that?
Yeah, remember that?
And then just tell everyone you're fine.
I'm fine.
Stop bugging me.
Stop bugging me.
You know, frankly, I like the NHL players showing their emotions and crying a bit.
I'd like to see more of that.
I like that level of accountability.
It's a delicate, especially for this show.
It's a delicate thing because, again, our de facto response is to make fun of everything.
No, that's great.
I know.
It shows they care.
Well, we're trying.
Yeah.
I mean, I think we know that they care.
But it shows they really care.
Yeah, in those two cases, especially, right?
Yeah.
Okay, some other news and notes from around the National Hockey League last night.
Ryan O'Reilly's former team, the St. Louis Blues, they've been going through it recently,
and they decided that enough was enough.
Prior to their game, a 3-0 win, I might add, over the St. Louis Blues,
they decided to scratch forward Jordan Kairu.
Now, I want to play the Jim Montgomery audio before.
this 3-0-0 win
because he talked about the mentality
that they need to bring to the ice.
Here's Monty talking about
how they need to break some legs
in order to have some sex.
Success in St. Louis.
Close enough.
I guess you could know.
I'm going to clip that.
Oh, dear.
Wait a minute.
No.
No. Success.
Well, I mean, our record
and our effort last night
shows you that it hasn't been easy.
But I would say that
If you have competitive fire in your belly,
struggles like this provide opportunities to grow stronger together when you face these again.
It's going to happen again during the season.
But right now, we got to dig in and work our ways out of it.
Like, you know, we just got to dig in.
Like, if there's a puck between you and I, I'm going to break your leg to get the puck.
We have to have more of that mentality.
Okay, I like, I think Montgomery is a pretty good coach.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But this was the exact same stuff that he was doing before he got turfed in Boston.
Like he's not.
And also, is breaking someone's leg a penalty?
It is a penalty.
Yeah.
More often than not, you're going to get penalized for that.
Like if you do with your stick, that's, that's a, that's a slash.
Because you can call your guys out and then you can healthy scratch Kyru.
But when you healthy scratch him and then say what you're looking for while he's out of the lineup.
And it's try harder and compete.
harder. You're putting him in the
crosshairs in a big way. And he did this at the end of his tenure
in Boston. He did it with, remember he yelled at Brad
Marshawn on the bench and he called out
Posternock and
I know that I know what he's trying
to do. Do you remember that rumor came up?
Was that when the rumor came up that Marjohn
and Posternock had beef?
Yes. Was that during that time?
It was prior to that. It was prior to that.
It was prior to that.
But the rumor at that
time was that Montgomery
wanted the blues job and he was doing the
George Costanza like I'm trying to get fired, right?
Like dragging the World Series trophy around the parking lot, the back of his car.
Wearing Lou Gehrig's jersey.
Yeah, all the things.
And at the time I had, I thought, I'll look, because I mean, he got hired days after by the
Blues.
Like he was in, he was in that job right away.
But now I'm looking at it.
I'm like as a head coach, I like the fire and brimstone stuff.
I think it's entertaining from our perspective.
I think sometimes holding, especially a guy like Cairo who was front and center when
Craig Barrube got fired there. I think sometimes holding those guys to account is a good thing.
At the same time, I'm a realist. I know that more often than not, the players win these battles.
Like the coaches get fired, the players stick around. As a matter of fact, we saw that in St. Louis
with Barube. So I don't know how this is going to turn out. It's a big, bold move, and they did
win yesterday. And Kyru hasn't been great. He is the blue second leading score, but he had not
recorded a point in his five games prior to getting scratched. So as we always say on this show,
I guess we'll just wait and see what transpires in St. Louis.
They did get a win, which they haven't had much of, this season.
Okay, a couple other scores I want to run through from yesterday of note.
We have a tie atop the NHL leaderboard for goals.
Two players right now, after last night's action,
are tied with 11 goals to lead the National Hockey League.
One of them, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby,
who scored a pair of power play goals yesterday as the Penguins,
who blew another three-nobacco.
league. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but they made up for it this time.
And they won, 5-3. That was a good hockey game.
It was a good game. That was the 99th time
that Krosby and Ovechkin had gone head-to-head.
By the way, Ferraro was doing that game.
I texted him. Do you think Tom Wilson's going to be
on Team Canada? Because he scored and he said,
yeah, I do.
I think I'm on the record saying I want them on there.
I'll take the risk. I'll take
the worry and the concern.
Tom Wilson changes games.
What are the head contact rules in the Olympics?
There's no, no...
There's not a lot, essentially.
It's not allowed, yeah.
No, but there's no like, well, you were going through the body
and you just happen to make contact with the head, right?
It's zero tolerance.
Zero tolerance.
And I believe match penalties also carry a winning game suspension.
Yeah.
If I'm not mistaken.
That's the only thing that concerns me.
It's a big concern.
Yeah.
It's like the fine line between you love what he brings, although I know, don't say it.
I know the he'll line, okay?
Like, I get it.
But you love what he brings because he's a game changer.
Yeah.
But he could also change the game in a negative way for your team.
Totally.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's a good thing the Penguins won that game, by the way.
Why?
Because she loves?
I was going to cry.
Don't make fun of it.
Why are you doing this?
Why are you doing it?
Don't make fun of it.
I'm just saying, it's the same situation that happened to Dobesh.
They blew that league, they lost.
It's true.
At least the Penguins pulled it out.
Real men cry, Greg, it's okay.
I said I cried last Saturday.
I won't tell you why.
Finally, before we go to break, I need to talk about the other player who is tied with Sidney Crosby
with 11 goals to lead the National Hockey League this year.
Cutter Goce of the Anaheim Ducks.
We got text coming in, don't we?
Oh, I just laughing at Laudey.
Like I said, I cried last Saturday.
And then you all laugh at them right away.
Yeah.
It was funny the timing, not the cry.
The crying was also funny.
Cutter Gocee is now tied to top the NHL leaderboard with 11 goals.
He was our one to watch.
Brat to you at Limitless AV last night, by the way.
That thing is on fire.
It can be beat.
I don't know what I'm feeling.
We should do Don Garber today once a while.
Bring it home, Garber.
He's going to get it home.
He's like, I'd like to announce I got a stadium built.
And I'll be like, damn, this thing is good.
Reporters like Don, we hear you are the one to watch this weekend.
It's very impressive how effective it is.
Anyway, Gochay scored again.
The Anaheim Ducks set a franchise record by scoring seven plus goals for the fourth time this season.
They did it in a 7-5 win over the Dallas stars in Dallas on Thursday night.
Ducks are the third team in 30 years to score at least seven goals four times in the first.
13 games. They are just racking them up.
And Gochay's been a big part of that.
He's now tied with Sidney Crosby for the
NHL lead with 11 goals. Break some
legs in order to have some sex.
Success in St. Louis.
Close enough.
You're listening to the
best of Halford and Brough.
You're listening to the best of
Halford and Brough. Ryan on the road,
did you guys talk about the Vancouver
goldenized jerseys yet? Those are awesome.
So glad they didn't just go
blue and green.
Here we go
That's right
Actually I like the name
I like the name
The color scheme seems quite oilish
You know who's gonna be
Dropping there
The inaugural first puck
It's Pierce Brosman
It's a tough get but we're gonna try
Look at the old Cootney Ice jerseys though
It's the exact same scheme as the Cootney Ice
Yeah okay
But yeah I mean there's
Listen there's only so many color schemes
Most of the time, you come out with the color scheme, you're like, that's...
You're not bothered with, like, the James Bond, like, comparison?
Good, but that's not what they named it after.
I know.
But why would I be bothered by that?
James Bond is awesome.
Yeah, but then you'll always think about that one movie from 1995 starring Pierce Brosnan.
Or a very popular video game for the Nintendo 64.
That's where my mind.
Great game.
Yeah.
One of the two.
You didn't play it.
No.
There are countless people in our age group.
I was reading books at that time.
Or watching James Bond, actually.
More bored to probably that.
I read Golden Eye.
By books, he means TV guide.
When is Golden Eye on?
There's countless, although they might not be awake right now,
but there's countless people our age who, in their 20s,
or maybe even a little bit earlier,
I don't know, because you're younger, a little bit younger than I am.
Yeah, that Golden Eye was the party game for teenagers of my era.
Yeah, in my group of friends, I stunk at it.
So I got, I thought, you said, this is our party game.
Yeah.
You're not getting invited to the actual parties.
Yeah, exactly.
since there are no girls here
we will play golden eye
someone said do you mean an in lieu of party game
and they all went yeah I'd rather go to the golden night
party to be honest with yeah to be honest way more fun
a golden eye is a duck yes
it's a diving duck
apparently but I'm good with
some of them don't dive they don't like to
get their hair wet I'm good
the dumps is like no no
I'm good with the name I'm good with the logo I'm good with all I'm glad
they've got any are they going to lean into the James Bond
stuff though like again no no
or not.
I can't.
Because, I mean, it's right there.
I can't tell you this enough.
They should have, they should have third jerseys where they're tuxedos.
Yeah, exactly.
There you go.
I mean, they've made it abundantly clear by the color scheme and the countless references
to the duck that they are not leaning into the Pierce-Brosden film of 1995.
I'm just saying.
But I will say, can you cue up that music again?
This would be epic skate-out music coming out of the tunnel.
Oh, yeah.
Totally.
It's great.
Yeah.
It's the best.
So for those that don't know what that is, that's the pause music from the video game.
Title I.
It's such a banger.
An absolute banger, which is like a throwaway project for someone that was working on the video game.
Came up with a great track.
Yeah.
I play that over and over and over.
Yogi and Bernaby ask us anything.
If by magic you became a multi-billionaire and you became the new owner of the Canucks,
how would you improve the team on and off the ice?
Do we want to say the obvious thing here?
I mean, don't tell Bick, but I'd rebuild.
I didn't see this clip yet.
Bick was apparently going on.
It's saying it's like, everyone's just saying rebuild to be part of the conversation.
I'm like, I don't think we're saying it to be part of the conversation.
He called it a corporate buzzword.
It's like, dude, I was saying this word 11 years ago.
I don't think he knows what a rebuild or a corporate buzzword is at that point.
Like, I remember all the way back right after the Kentucky got bounced by San Jose in 2013.
All the way back then, I was like, I think it's time to rebuild.
And it never happened.
It is the hot topic of the day.
Drance has hit yesterday in our show
got a lot of social media plus
with the way he went about it.
I would look at everything.
Honestly, from the branding
to the game presentation.
You know, Dodd said the other day
the team's a bit stale.
I kind of agree with that.
Like...
The team?
Just the everything.
Yeah, the organization.
I'm not even kidding.
Listen, if I'm buying a new team, I'm just, I'm going to make changes, right?
Like, I'm not just going to be, like, a passive owner, you know, like I'll probably be on the power play.
But, you know, I'm not even kidding.
As far as in-game presentation goes, which I do think is generally quite good at Rogers Arena, to be honest, I'd bring back the organ.
They got to get that organ back in there.
A hockey arena without an actual organ playing bangers.
That's your day one thing.
Yeah, number one.
I don't hate that.
I don't hate that.
Forget the package facility.
I don't hate that.
is a very distant second
to getting that organ back in there.
I was surprised no one
was at practice facility right away.
It took like five minutes
into the conversation.
I thought that was going to be number one.
But the organ is good.
Because that just seems so obvious.
Like that's like the clear number.
Obviously that's number one.
Well, no rebuilding could be number one.
I would like to walk into that office
and be like there's going to be a lot of changes.
You there.
A lot of changes.
Here's another one kind of similar.
David and North Van.
Ask us anything.
If you could trade the,
The Canucks's entire roster, and I imagine he includes, like, prospects in that.
For any other roster in the NHL, are there any teams you wouldn't trade for?
I can only think of the Flames and maybe the Rangers, and that's depressing.
There's probably some other teams I wouldn't trade for.
I think, oh, the Islanders have Schaefer.
Yep.
So much of it.
So much of it depends on, you know, like, what is Quinn Hughes going to do?
but I think most of us are assuming at this point
at this point that he's
He's gone
We'll take a dramatic pause
I got one for you guys
Would you trade straight up
The Vancouver Canucks roster for
The National Predators roster?
No, that's another one I wouldn't do it
That vaults right to the top of the nose
Oh no
Especially when Ryan O'Reilly
The guys only had one good year in his career
According to Ryan O'Reilly
Yeah
Yeah that's a bad one
I actually watch that
I got another one
of that Flyers Preds game and
halfway through I was like
why am I watching this? I got another one for you
would you trade the Vancouver Canucks
roster for the Seattle Crackens
roster? Oh that's another one I wouldn't do
just out of spite. They got a couple of good prospects
They do. Berkeley Caton, a huge fan
of him. Sure?
Yeah, I just can't do it. Here's another
one. This is a fun game.
Would you trade the Vancouver Canucks
roster for the Toronto
Maple Leafs roster
on the downward slope?
Oh, that's another good one.
Yeah, that is quite a few.
Yeah, yeah, that's a good one.
Yeah, keep your hat up, Vancouver,
and actually, I wouldn't trade you for everyone.
Would you trade them for the Leafs?
Because I think right now you get a better product,
end of sentence.
I don't know, man.
They don't not look very good.
And Austin.
There's still 8, 5 and 1.
So, like, I think this year you probably have a better year.
This year.
Can you get the lease roster with Demko in net?
Can't do that.
Can't do it.
Can't do it.
It's a great little thought exercise here.
How quickly could you tear down this Canucks roster?
Well, I mean, if you were systematic about it, you could do it in the span of a year and thorough and if we were wrong on it.
If you did what the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadians did, which is send a letter, put the guys' names in the letter, get on the group chat, be like the following players are up for sale.
But so many guys have no move clauses.
Like you look at PD.
You can work around those.
Well, I don't know if that's a whole separate idea.
prospects and I hope you land Gavin McKenna.
I mean, if there was a year to do it, this is the year.
Bessor's got a no move. You plan your rebuild around
the superstar prospect. Besser's got
a no move. DeBrusk has a
no move.
Hironix got a no move. Marcus Petterson's got a
no move. Tyler Myers has a no move.
The way around it is you trade around what you can.
No, you change the grammar. No,
move. No, I think
you would, at that point, you would go
just be like, hey man, we don't want
on you on the team anymore and they're like oh fine and if you stay we're going to create the
most toxic environment imagined and then and then and they were like change the locks and then they
be like didn't you already yeah like wait a minute yeah better would be like I'm used to it man
I can I can deal with this no problem we've been doing before this to the phone lines we go our

up, buddy. How are you doing?
Gentlemen, gentlemen, all good. It's Friday. It's always good.
What do you think Quinn Hughes is thinking these days?
Well, I know people are talking. I don't think he's checked out,
but he sure doesn't look happy after loss is talking to the media.
One thing he's got to realize is he's just not a player on the team. He's the captain.
Bad body language are looking grumpy isn't a good look.
You look for your captain when the adversity hits.
he's the leader. It's his
job to keep the team on an even keel.
It's his job to lead
in good times and bad times. You know
who led in this city in good times
and bad times? It was a captain. It's a guy
named Stan Schmiel. He was captain
of some very bad hockey clubs
in the 1980s. He conducted
post-game interviews after a lot of losses
with dignity. So did Henrik
Cedin. His last few years
a lot of losing. Look,
if the captain looks defeated
after every loss, how are you going to
pull the rest of the team back in the right direction. Sure, he hates to lose. Everybody
hates to lose. That's what makes Quinn Hughes such an elite player. He hates to lose. But the
bottom line is, everybody hates to lose. Nobody wakes up and says, let's go lose tonight. They all
want to win. But when you're the captain, and if you look miserable, it's hard not to notice.
But you know what? I think when you're the captain, it's very important to have good body
language to be that guy, to be the leader that everybody else in that dressing
him looks up to when the times are tough.
Canucks schedule, very interesting.
They started a four-game homestand with a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.
Yes, they played well for two periods of that, but they couldn't beat Spencer
Knight, and then everything fell apart in the third period.
They've got three games in four nights coming up, all at Rogers Arena against Columbus, Colorado,
in Winnipeg, and then they're out on the road to play Carolina, Tampa Bay, Florida,
before returning home to play Dallas.
So I know that, like, Tampa Bay and Florida, they're not, there's something off in Tampa Bay,
and Florida's got some key injuries, but this next stretch of games is going to be real tough,
and the Canucks are only treading water right now.
This stretch coming up, let's take Columbus out of the mix tomorrow.
they have a tough six-game stretch coming.
Colorado, Winnipeg, Dallas, Carolina, Tampa Bay, and Florida.
People keep talking about the Canucks going after the likes of Zaka,
Coddry, Stamco's, Braden,
if they have a bad stretch here in the next seven games, Jason,
teams are going to start calling them for the likes of Sherwood and Garland.
They may go from the hunters to be in the hunted
if they don't come out of this stretch.
you know, and on the Sherwood contract front,
when I checked in last night, no talks, quiet.
Canucks clearly, in a wait-and-see mode with Sherwood,
the team's leading goal score.
The Canucks signed J-T. Miller in early September,
so it's not like they haven't signed a free agent early in his UFA season.
There is surprise around the league that it is quiet on the Sherwood front,
because if this guy hits July 1st, he's going to do,
he's going to have a lot of interest.
The Canucks could be thinking why signed Sherwood now,
when we may have to change philosophies in the future direction of this team in a few months.
Direction like a rebuild, if things go south this season.
There's a lot of things at play when it comes to Sherwood.
There are those who think the Connect should move Sherwood now.
Values high.
Contract expiring.
Team is average.
You could probably get a first round pick if you took something back on Sherwood.
But I can report to you, despite this guy, you know, with nine goals,
the team. It is very quiet, Jason, on the contract front with Sherwood. But the biggest issue
with this team is not sure what. They need to fix their massive issues at center. Lucas
Reichel's got no points in seven games as second line center. They only have one NHL center on
the roster. That's Pedersen. And he's got to start the defensive zone on so many shifts
because they don't have the trust in Reichel to take defensive zone faceoffs. Rikers
taken two defensive zone face offs
off in the last two games. Pedersen
or Ratt to take most of them in the defensive
zone, you need help from that second
line center in the defensive zone.
Now, I'm going to take you back. Henrik Sedeen
almost never had to take a start
in the defensive zone because he had
Ryan Kessler to take the
draws on one side, Manny Mahalter on the
other. Henrik was then fresh to
create offense. Imagine a
Pedersen starting most of his shifts in the
offensive zone. Might be a different
story. So that second line
center. It's just not point production.
It's the trust to take draws in your
own end. This is all on management
for either trading or letting
walk. Horvatt, Lindholm, Miller,
and Souter. How do you let four
NHL centers walk
in the last two years? And then they targeted
some guys and didn't get them, right?
They targeted Duques. They targeted Duques.
Devorak. They made an
offer to Devorak, three times four.
And it was a better offer than Philly.
Philly was only one year five, too. He took the
one year. He took the money.
was that his relationship? Do you think that was his relationship with Tocke?
Because those two have been together in Arizona, right?
100%. But there was a good relationship with the Canucks and the agent on that.
And it was a gut-wrenching decision for DeVorak. It wasn't easy, right? So he bet on himself, right?
Instead of taking the 12 million from Vancouver, he said, you know what? I'm going to have a good year on a one-year deal. I'll do fine in 12 months.
So he bet on himself, which is he's allowed to do. But Jason, letting Foreman,
NHL centers walk and not getting an impact center back, and then they gambled on Heald
staying healthy. That's why they're in the mess today. They are in when it comes to the
center ice position. Rick, you mentioned teams will start calling on Kiefer Sherwood, and I was
like, yeah, yeah, pending UFA. You also mentioned Garland there. And, you know, I think most
people know he signed a contract extension with the Canucks, but his no move clause does,
doesn't kick in until next year.
He still doesn't have one.
I don't know if they also gave him one.
I think sometimes you can do that, but why did you throw Garland's name in there?
I just, you know what, teams love the guy.
And, you know, I told you about no trade clauses, right?
If a team and an agent really want to make it happen, they can make it happen.
It's just a thing on a piece of paper.
Look at people always say to me, move Lankin.
Well, Lankin has got a no move for the first two years,
and he was so tired of moving around, the agent got him a no move.
I'm just saying, like, teams recognize what Garland brings.
He's, you know, look at the U.S., put him on the radar for the Olympic team.
He's not going to make it, but they did a nice thing for him.
People recognize his work ethic, the people recognize they're going to get calls.
If this thing goes south, they're going to get calls on all their top players.
That's what I meant.
I mean, it's not going to stop a team from calling.
and inquiring about the guy.
That's what I meant.
If this thing goes south and it's not going good in the next two, three, four, five weeks,
you know what?
They're going to be hunted and teams are going to be calling on their best players.
That's no surprise to me.
That's no surprise to me.
I got an injury update for you this morning, Jason,
so I want to throw this in.
Boy, what tough luck Derek Forberts had this year.
You know, he signed the one-year deal.
He's only played two games.
sounds like he's got hip issues, abs back, he's pretty banged up.
I did hear he did skate on Monday.
Not sure when he's back.
Somebody said maybe a couple of more weeks, I don't know.
But the guys had tough luck, right?
But it looks like the hip is causing a lot of the issue.
And then when Mancini returns, can he take Wollander's spot or does he have to go to Abbisburg?
So there's some decisions coming up, right?
What about Blunder?
Where's he at?
Where's he at?
Well, we keep hearing not yet, not yet, and then he was skating the other day,
and then he left the ice, but not just, I was told the week,
and then, you know, then he left the game day skate the other day,
which wasn't a very good sign.
And so, you know, Heedles, you know, I mean, they're still monitoring Heedle,
but Bluger, Le Caramackie's shoulder, he should be back now far away,
Mancini shouldn't be far away, and Hoaglander's still at Christmas.
Hey, if there's two guys I'm feeling for, okay, now listen to this story.
It's Maddie Mahalter and Ryan Johnson.
So Abbasford's in Colorado this week, right?
So they're leaving town, and Jujarcair didn't make the trip, hurt.
Tolapil's still hurt.
Chase Stillman's in a walking boot.
They only took 12-4s to Colorado.
Vitelli Kratsoff walks out on the team.
Six are injured in Vancouver.
Six are injured in Abbisford.
Abbey's lost eight straight.
It's just a mess down there with their roster.
Jet Wu, the only positive I have for you is Jet Wu started skating,
but he's still most likely out until Christmas.
He had surgery on tendons in his hand.
And, you know, they're still telling him.
He's chomping at the bit to get back, but they're still telling him,
hey, look, kid, you've got to wait.
You might have to go right into December.
But it's just like I, it's just not Vancouver, Jason.
Abbotsford continues to get, it just continues to get hit and hit and hit.
And most nights, I'm sorry, but they have an East Coast hockey league roster down there.
It's pretty bad.
Are they two and seven and one shootout loss?
Eight straight losses.
And you know what?
It's just, it's a real tough time for Manny putting together a roster.
And so if they lose a forward this weekend, they're down to 11.
and they don't got an extra forward on this trip.
They did take 8D, I think.
But it's, and then Tolopilo, I think he's got a groin.
He's been, you know, out a couple of weeks.
That's your top goalie.
So they just can't buy a break down in Abbisford.
And then this week, a couple more on the injured list.
It's just a gong show in Vancouver and Abby.
And boy, oh boy, both these coaching staffs,
give them credit for, you know, going through one hell of a tough time
in both cities with,
injuries, there's no doubt about it.
Are the Canucks anticipating that they might have to adjust to life without
Philippeal period?
What has it been, Mike, two, three weeks?
I did hear he's feeling better, but no physical activity yet, which, you know,
like you guys saw Chris Tannave, right, go off on a stretcher the other day.
You know, and you know how much, you know, we love Chris and what he did in Vancouver
and, you know, he's in a situation in Toronto right now
where he's getting checked out, you know, by doctors and MRIs
and wishing Chris the best, the same with Heedel.
Anytime it's a head injury, it's tough.
I did hear Heedles feeling better, but no physical activity.
I think that's a long-term project in terms of, you know,
waiting and waiting.
They're monitoring them.
But like I told you guys before, if I'm, you know, people close to Heel,
you know, this is a seventh or eighth concussion, right?
I'm probably talking to him about, you know, do you want to keep going?
Do you want to keep going?
Or do you want to, you know, you got to think about life after hockey.
You got to think about, you know, family, kids, all that stuff, right?
So, but I don't think, Mike, you're going to see Heedle for a while.
I don't get that feeling, but it's just, but I don't really care about if he comes back to hockey.
I think after that money concussions that the story around Heidel should be, you know,
get healthy, you know, get 100% healthy.
He's already made as much money as, you know,
most people ever make.
I know he hasn't, he's in, sometimes
you forget how young he, he just
turned 26. Yeah. He's
a young man. He's got, like you said, he's got
a long, long life ahead
of him that he doesn't need marred by post
concussion symptoms.
Okay, and I want to throw one
thing at you guys. You guys
have heard all the rebuild talk this week, right?
Mm-hmm. Yep.
Okay, so the ducks have missed the playoffs the last
seven years, right? That's around the time
Trevor Linden asked this owner to rebuild
and he said no. When I woke up this
morning, the Ducks were in first place in the Pacific
Division, two points out of first place overall.
They've got Carlson, McTavish, Gauthier, Terry, Saneke,
Leconeukov, Roger McQueen's coming.
Leo Carlson, 20-year-old,
leads the NHL's scoring with 22.
No, he's one point off the lead, all right?
Cutter, Gauthier, 28, 21,
leading the NHLong goals.
The Ducks are the highest scoring team in the
NHL. They got one of the youngest lineups in the NHL. So look at this one. The Ducks have
50 points from players 21 and under. The Vancouver Canucks have five points from players 21 and
under. The Ducks, the Blackhawks, the Mammoth, and the sharks all will pass Vancouver.
Well, the Canucks continue to live in the murky middle for the past 14 years. But that
decision for the Ducks to rebuild was made around the time that Trevor Linden asked this
owner to rebuild. And the owner said no, because Jim Benning said, I'll fix it in two years.
Think about that.
Mika Nukinoff.
I'm sorry, I'm just stuck on that one.
What is it then, bruff?
Minchikov.
Minchikov.
What is it?
Minchikov.
But hey, you know what?
No, it's not Mitchikov.
It's Minkukov.
Well, it's not Mikinukov.
Okay.
I got five, I'm rattling 500 names, bruff.
Sorry, I'm not perfect.
I got 500 names.
It's Mint Yukov.
Hey, I better get that right, because that's a Milstein client.
Oh, no way.
I better get that.
Yeah, that's a Milstein client.
Oh, hey, can you tell Danny Millions that we're glad that I'll never have to talk about Craftsoff again?
Oh, you know what?
That was, and look, and that was his call.
He didn't want to, okay, here's what happened.
He gets sent down to Abby, and he's watching a guy like McCackran get called up,
and all these other guys getting called up, and he's thinking, okay, yeah, this ain't going to,
When the Canucks cut him, they put him on the trade wire and said to all teams,
hey, if you guys want him, he's available.
So it just, right from day one, it wasn't going to work.
It hasn't worked.
He's going to go back home.
But from what I was told, he didn't cause any problems in Abby.
He's a good kid.
It's just, look, he's just not NHL.
He's a ninth overall pick.
Didn't work out.
But he does good in the KHL, and he does good back home.
And, you know, I did not hear he caused any trouble or anything.
down in Abbey and I already was actually
a pretty good teammate so it just
it wasn't meant to be and but
everybody I think could see that
like the first time he came here it didn't work
so why he's going to work the second time
right? I agree
