You're listening to the best of Halford and Brough.
You're listening to Halford and Brough.
That one's drilled.
Deep to right field.
He has done it.
Four whole runs in a game.
A three-run, home run.
How about how that ball carried?
And not a smile on his face.
The other thing that I would like to say is I firmly made a commitment to Michael this spring, Micah.

And now we get a three-day weekend.
Nice.
Woo-hoo.
Nice, nice.
We deserve it.
We've earned it.
The guest list today begins at 6.30.
It's Oliver Platt, producer and broadcaster for one soccer.
Busy times for Canadian soccer.
We are now a week away from two very important friendlies against Romania and Wales.
Two of the important tune-ups for the 2026 World Cup.
There was also some big news on the Canadian soccer front late last night.
regarding a potential transfer
and it's a Vancouver white cap in the news, Jason.
Ooh.
Well, that was going to be the tease.
I hope it's not Mueller.
Yeah, it's Thomas Mueller.
He's had enough.
Yeah, he's like, you know what?
I'm good.
I went to the P&E.
I saw what I needed to see.
Anyway, we will talk to Oliver Platt at 630,
not the actor, by the way.
For those of you, bear enthusiasts out there.
Are we sure, though?
Yeah, it's not Uncle Jimmy from the bear.
It's Oliver Platt, the one soft.
Soccer analyst, too will be joining us to talk some Canadian soccer at 6.30. 7 o'clock, AJ from
AJ's pizza. He's going to make his return to the airwaves. A reminder, it is Ask Us Anything Friday.
So there's a $100 gift card to AJ's pizza up for grabs. It goes to the best ask us anything.
It's a contest. You have to earn it. You have to win it. Dunbar Lumber text line is 650, 6.50.
Way in now. Hashtag it, A.U.A. Put a pizza emoji into the text. Ask us literally anything.
Doesn't have to be about sports, $100 gift card to AJ's pizza to the winner.
$705, Nick Shook from NFL.com is going to join the program.
Massive, massive blockbuster trade in the NFL yesterday.
As the Dallas Cowboys, as you heard in the intro, traded Micah, don't call me Michael Parsons to the Green Bay Packers yesterday.
How did it happen? Why did it happen?
And what happens from here?
We'll get answers to all those questions from Nick Shook from NFL.com at 705.
7.30. We're going to go to Calgary. Eric Francis is going to join the program. SportsNet Flames reporter.
He is covering the Canadian Olympic camp currently underway in Calgary this week. He was there for that highly eventful.
Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Sam Reinhardt Presser, spoke with GM Doug Armstrong, spoke with head coach John Cooper.
We've got some notes and some thoughts as well on the Canadian Olympic team as we inch closer and closer to the 2026 Olympics.
Eric Francis is going to join us at 7.30.
8 o'clock, it's the Moge.
It's a buy week for the Lions,
but it's not a buy week for their play-by-play guy.
We'll look back on the Lions lost.
52 points in that loss to Toronto last weekend,
what the team has been working on at practice
and what they'll continue to work on through the buy.
Working in reverse on the guest list, 8 o'clock,
it's Moge, 7.30, Eric Francis, 7.05, Nick,
shook. 7 o'clock, AJ, 6.30, Oliver Platt.
That's what's happening on the program today.
Laddie, let's tell everybody what happened.
Hey, did you guys see the game last night?
No.
No.
What happened?
I missed all the action because I was...
We know how busy your life can be.
What happened?
You missed that?
What happened?

You know, it was earlier in this week, Jason.
And Monday, as a matter of fact, when you openly asked a couple times,
what's going to happen with Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys?
And I said, don't worry about it.
They'll get a contract done.
And then we had Mike Tanier on the show, and he said, yeah, he's going to play for the Cowboys, obviously.
Just goes to show that everyone named Mike is stupid.
Except Micah Parsons, because he's rich.
Yeah, he's rich now.
And not so stupid at all.
Yeah, he doesn't have to deal with Jerry Jones anymore.
Micah Parsons yesterday, the best pass rusher in the NFL.
And according to Greg Rosenthal from NFL.com, formerly of NBC Sports,
he called him the best pass rusher the NFL has seen in the last 20 years on his way to the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers in exchange give Dallas first round picks in 2026 and 2027 along with a pro bowl defensive lineman, Kenny Clark.
So it is a massive, massive deal in terms of assets changing hands.
It's massive because of the teams involved, two of the signature teams in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.
and the Green Bay Packers,
one of the most iconic and controversial owners in sports, Jerry Jones,
and it comes a handful of days before the start of the NFL season.
So what is the spin from the Cowboys end of things?
Because their fans cannot be happy with how this turned out.
So Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones met with the media yesterday right after the trade.
Like I'm thinking another Dallas team had a fairly controversial trade.
less than a year ago.
Yes.
And then they were just like, yeah, he's out of shape.
The picture.
What are they doing with Micah Parsons?
Not a good teammate?
Not a good teammate.
The picture of Micah Parsons and Luca Donchich doing the jersey swap was making the rounds.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
On Twitter yesterday with the single solitary tier.
So if you're asking all these questions about what the spin is and how the Cowboys are playing it,
who better to hear from than Jerry Jones?
We've got about a minute, minute and a half of audio here.
By the way, Jerry Jones went 11 and a half minutes uninterrupted.
Say what you will about the old man.
He could still spit.
He was talking and talking and talking.
Is it a hot take to say that there's a bit of Jim Rutherford and Jerry Jones together?
Like they've both been around for a long time and they both sometimes don't have a filter.
No, no, no, no.
Jerry Jones is 82.
You might be honest.
No, no, no. Is Jim Rutherford the Jerry Jones of the NHL?
No. No.
How many of those drops do we have?
We have about 18. A lot of them.
It's got its own folder.
I'm just throwing it out there.
Like, like, okay, they've both been around for, again, a long time, and how many times, even Jim will admit, like, sometimes I get myself in trouble with how much I talk.
Now, Jerry is like, I'm going to talk.
I don't care.
Okay.
Let's just get the most obvious point out of there.
They're both old.
By any stretch of, Jim Brotherford is 76.
Yeah.
And Jerry Jones is 82.
And they are the oldest individuals in their individual positions in their respective leagues.
Right?
I mean, because Lou Lamarillo's gone.
Yeah.
Right.
So now it's Jim Rutherford.
Right.
And with that, I'm going to call it experience.
With that life experience, one does tend to throw a little more caution to the wind.
Yeah.
You know, just I'm going to say what I'm going to say.
What's the worst that can happen?
And, you know, some people answer that's a good point.
Yeah.
Right?
I mean, he's that.
Sometimes you have to make a controversial trade.
Yeah.
In both cases.
Under very questionable circumstances.
Or any pictures of J.T. Miller and Mike Parsons going around.
Yeah.
So, back to the audio, we go.
This is Jerry Jones, what a minute and a half from yesterday, trying to explain in part, Jason, the question you were asking, what's the spin? Why they do this? Why did they trade Micah Parsons?
I did make Mike an offer. It wasn't acceptable. And I honored the fact that it wasn't done in the way that he wanted to do it through an agent. So he was made an offer. There's not an ounce of vindictiveness. There's no.
bad feelings on my part about the fact that we didn't come together on an
agreement the facts are and we'll cover it I'm sure with many of your
questions but the facts are specifically we need to stop the run and we
haven't been able to stop the run at key times for several years and
When you have the kind of extraordinary pass rush that Michael had,
then the way to mitigate that pass rush is to run at you.
If the pass rush doesn't get you ahead pretty big time
and you're playing even or behind,
then you've really got a problem in stopping the run.
So that was probably the most sound logical football explanation
that, and even then you could poke holes in it
because they're like, yeah, but you're still trading
the premier past rusher in the NFL,
a position that outside of quarterback
probably has the most value in the league right now.
To wit, Micah Parsons signed a contract
immediately with Green Bay,
which made him the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL.
Can they stop the run?
Well, they're going to have a harder time with it
because they did have to trade one of their best interior
defensive linemen in this deal.
However, Jones.
That is some spin.
So let's break down everything Jerry just said there.
Did he make Michael slash Micah Parsons an offer?
The answer is yes.
He did this back in April.
Now there was two issues with the offer.
One, he made it directly to Parsons and didn't involve the agent.
And that was obviously going to be a contentious sticking point throughout this whole thing.
Why did that happen?
Why? Jerry being Jerry probably wanted to go straight to the player and not necessarily.
We don't need to deal with these lawyers.
That sort of thing.
But everyone's got an agent.
I'm putting you on the spot.
I'm sorry here.
That's just weird.
That's exactly why he did it.
Okay.
The other reason that he did is I think he wanted to go straight to Parsons and tell him, look,
we're not going to make you the highest paid player on the team or the highest paid
non-quarterback in the NFL because we don't like how that might play in our room and with
our leadership group and everything.
Like, Dax, that's the guy.
And, you know.
Which is a problem.
So there's another thing.
The Cowboys were never.
going to go as high as
Micah Parsons
wanted to go. They wanted to go closer. I think it was the T.J. Watts
contract, which is previously the high for the
past rusher. Then you got to play in the Micah Parsons side of things.
And this is what you were talking about earlier in the week. He was very
vocal and vehement on social media,
but his behavior about not wanting to be there.
That's where I think the spin comes in for Jones,
where he says it wasn't personal, it wasn't vindictive.
I can't buy that.
I got a feeling that there was a certain element of
F me?
No. F.U.
Yeah, yeah.
And we're going to make this trade.
Well, when he, when he, I don't know, when he was asleep on that,
was that him on the sleep on the, yeah, yeah.
Like when he was asleep on the sideline and his coach is like, yeah, we got to, I'll deal with that.
Like that seemed, that seemed, I wonder if that was the breaking point.
I really do.
Could be.
I wonder if Jerry saw that and said, this is terrible for the team.
Sure.
To have a guy acting like this.
Yep.
And here's a thing.
I mean, this is a franchise that has traded star players in their prime before you've got to go all the way back to Herschel Walker when the Cowboys that are quite famously trading into Minnesota and then had a trade that revitalized their franchise.
This just isn't that, though.
This is not that.
This is less of a return for sure.
And also, a team that has its own aspirations of doing something, trading away, I would say it's best player, not best defensive player.
Best player, period.
If you talk to enough people that cover the NFL really close,
they'll say like Micah Parsons isn't just the best player defensively of his generation.
Like I said earlier, you go back two decades and they put him ahead of Vaughn Miller,
Miles Garrett, in terms of raw potential and the ability to get after the quarterback.
And to ship him off to Green Bay.
By the way, we're not even talking about Green Bay,
but maybe we'll save that from when we talk to Nick Shoe.
Sure.
Because this really elevates them into potential title contender.
It's a fascinating day in the NFL.
If you look at the Super Bowl futures,
Dallas is now plus 6,000 to win the Super Bowl,
which is actually the same odds as the Seahawks.
Oh.
So they're in that territory,
and I don't know, to be offended if I'm a Seahawks fan,
but whatever, I'm realistic.
Sure.
Green Bay is plus 1,400.
So there's only five teams ahead of Green Bay,
and that's Philly, Baltimore, Buffalo, KC.
Detroit. So you know, what Green Bay
is thinking, if we talk about
the Herschel Walker trade historically, they're thinking
that this could be the
2025 version of
Reggie White joining them in free agency
many moons ago. And that's just how that totally
changed the franchise. They won the Super
Bowl with Brett Farve and
with Reggie White
leading the charge.
It's a great, look,
we talk all the time about the lack of movement in the
national hockey league. This is an
amazing, amazing deal.
Not just because of the stakes and the players and the franchises involved,
but right before the start of the NFL season.
And these two teams will meet just a handful of weeks into the NFL season.
And the game is going to fall on the same Sunday, Jason,
as the final day of the Ryder Cup.
Right.
How great is that?
And it's the Sunday nighter.
So you can watch all the singles matches at the Ryder Cup.
That day is already a write-off for so many days.
right into Dallas Green Bay on Sunday night football.
It might be one of the most unproductive Sundays of all time.
It might be.
It just might be.
Okay, let's bank through some other stuff here because a lot did happen overnight.
On the baseball front, no Jay's game last night, no Mariners game last night either,
but also no good news from the ALE East because the Yankees continued to roll their fifth win in a row
taking care of the White Sox last night.
The Red Sox also won.
That's their fourth street.
Yeah.
So I've actually copied the notes from the Yankees game in both.
I'm like, that's weird.
Coley Ballinger hit home runs for the Yankees and the Red Sox last night.
Good player.
Good player.
Wow, he's versatile.
So, you know, that race is going to remain tight.
I still think that, you know what we need to find out, by the ways?
We need to find out what the J's odds are to win the ALE East.
I know we keep looking at their playoff odds.
And those are at like 99.8% now.
But I'd be curious to know what there are.
odds are to win the ALE East, because it's been about a five game, four and a half game
cushion for a while now. And the Jay's have...
71.4% according to fan graphs.
So to clinch the buy, it's 67.3%.
So I guess they're giving the Astros a bit of a chance to clinch the buy.
And then the Jays, of course, have a big series which begins tonight against the best team
in baseball to Milwaukee Brewers.
Right.
Okay.
And who's on the mound for the Jays?
Who is on the mound for the J-S?
Is it the Bebes?
It's the Bebbs is going on it.
Nice.
Is that two Fridays?
I think he's going to only start him on five.
I got Bieber fever fever.
I'm a believers.
Oh, John Schneider.
He started last Friday too, right?
I believe so.
They should only start him on Friday.
It's like a party vibe.
Friday night, Beber night.
Yeah, play a little Bieber music.
Can I be good.
There is some news, and I teased this earlier in the intro.
And I want to get to it out.
This kind of happened weirdly, very late last night.
according to TSN, I believe it was Matthew Chenetti specifically.
There is some transfer rumblings around Vancouver white caps
and Canadian international midfielder Ali Ahmed potentially going to Bundesliga
two side, Shalka.
Is that Shalka 04?
Yeah, Shalka 04.
The 04 stands for how many dollars they have left in the bank because they're virtually, like,
they're broke.
They're having a tough time.
Anyway, this came down late last night,
and it's going very late in the international window
because the Bundesliga, like several other big European leagues,
slams the transfer window shut on Monday.
Now, Shalka, as I mentioned, has fallen on hard times.
It used to be not just a top-tier Bundesliga team,
but a very good team in that league.
But obviously, they fall on a hard time with finances and everything else,
so they're currently playing in the second division.
Now, this is very, very, very,
interesting from several
perspectives. One, locally,
it would not be great for the Whitecaps
if they were to lose Ahmed
at this stage of the game.
They've been without Ryan Gould, who is
an attacking midfielder in a similar vein.
They play different positions, but they're still those sort of like
get up and go type guys, creative players.
The White Caps did leave
open an international spot.
They monkeyed around with some gam,
if I'm not mistaken, to make sure they had one available.
It's a good idea. Always want to do that, right?
For the Canadian men's
national team, I'm not going to lie, this could be a real boon because I think if Ahmed's going to take
the next step as a player might need to be elsewhere. I'm not sure if he's accomplished everything he's
going to, but I think he kind of needs to. Is the second division of the German League better than
MLS? No. Yeah. It's one of the better second division. Probably rank it alongside the championship.
Yeah. But they have aspirations of going back up. It would be a nod to the future. Like if they go
back up and he's playing Bundes League a minutes ahead of the World Cup. Okay. It's ask us anything Friday. So
let's bring a little hockey in here
and a reminder

Ask us anything with rumors going around
that Petey got
married this summer
if you got invited to the wedding, hint, I wouldn't be.
What would you give him as a gift?
Wow.
By the way, I don't think it's breadmaker.
Toaster?
Did you see?
Yeah, I don't know.
Gift certificate?
What's the most useless thing ever on a wedding registry?
Everyone fills them out
And then they just kind of take anything
Like no one will ever get me this like a
For like kitchen stuff
Yeah chocolate fondue
It's like the cascading one
Where you just stick the fruit underneath
Or like the grapefruit knife
Yeah
Mellenballer
Melon Baller
Melon Baller something like that
Those are kind of small
Yeah
You could probably
I'm not getting him
I'm not getting
Well I'm not getting
He just signed a not too long ago
I don't know if you heard
He signed a pretty big contract so
Who Peterson?
Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah
Good for him
Yeah
Here's a question
If you're in that tax
When you get married, do you fill out a registry?
Do you, do you ask for gifts?
I don't think you fill out a registry.
It's unbecoming.
We could really use that.
Well, unless you,
unless you only have rich friends.
And then you're like,
I better get some great gifts here.
Okay.
So the register,
you know what?
The registry would probably be like an elevated one.
Like you wouldn't be like Tiffany's or something.
Stan mixer.
Like you'd be getting like better things.
Yeah.
Like just,
you're like, is this kitchen?
Kitchen aid?
is this used was this returned you're like sorry we tried to tape the box together
uh did you see uh what peterson's uh trainer had to say
yeah he's getting yoked he's got his he's got his he's got his no he's got his flowback
flow back yeah yeah um this was making the rounds on social media yesterday uh i can't
remember peterson's uh trainer in sweden but he wrote a big long instagram post and there was
some video of
Peterson skating
up and down the ice
and people were like
wow look
look at that
skating
skating around
pylons and everything
I hope the Canucks
play a bunch of pylons
listen
I'm going to take
any positive news
about
Petterson
right now
and like
we all hoped
that Pedersen
goes back to Sweden
and just
you know
works on his game
and finds
something
it was an interesting
post by that
trainer though because he was saying said Pedersen's just like a challenging guy to work with
just because just because he sees the game differently and he's just he's a bit of a different
dude and anyway I don't have it in front of me but I'm sure you can find it it is so one from
Comox also has another ask us anything to ask us anything and he said what would it mean for the
franchise if we get a repeat of last year with the Canucks, PD being MIA, Demko or Hughes getting
injured long term, team not producing. It could totally be a possibility. Where does the team go from
there? Juan, let's cross that bridge when we get to it. I don't even want to imagine it. One,
I just told you that I'm excited to hear the good news about Elias Pedersen and I'm trying to be
positive. Let's bring some positivity to at least training camp, you know, and at least the
preseason in the first few games. It is funny. If it doesn't look good right off the bat,
there's going to be a lot of like, oh boy, this isn't good. It is funny, though, because a lot
of people. It's probably Adam Foots fault, though. I blame that. I blame the new guy. That's,
that's, that's, you know, he probably, probably screwed up. Too much dump of chase. I'll say this.
there you know everyone will say well
any team that would suffer
injuries to their star goalie and defensemen
and you know
a no show from its number one center
would struggle my counter to that
would be like there are certain teams
when you talk about a foundation like the ground
that a team exists on and is built on
some are more stable and some are more fragile
the connects is very very fragile
yeah that's the only way to describe it is
the bedrock is already kind of crumbling
and any major crack,
Quinn Hughes could fall right through
and then land in New Jersey.
That's the scary part of the whole thing.
That's very poetic.
Yeah.
I like that.
Thanks.
I was thinking about it.
You're going to use that like a hundred times now.
Wait till you see how often I use this house analogy.
But,
you know,
I think as it,
so back to your point,
any news about Pedersen coming,
any news about Pedersen coming back
in good shape is important.
Because if you want to do the sort of
chronological graph,
of how things went pear-shaped last year,
you can very much make the argument
that everything started with him showing up in poor shape.
That's what irritated J.T. Miller.
And that's not a justification
for the way that Miller behaved.
No, but looking at it just in terms of like,
A, led to B and then B led to C and so on.
For sure.
Not showing up in great shape into camp,
which I think everyone is pretty much identified as that happened.
Yep.
It led to, you know, the team's alpha being,
upset, then the Rift, then the President of Hockey
Ops acknowledgement that the Rift was, you know, it wasn't
just the Rift, the relationship was broken. Yeah. Then they had to go fix
that. And then in the aftermath, countless, countless
executives from the team saying that that was the reason that that
season went off the rails. So, you know, coming back in better shape is
step one to not repeating last year, which is vital important.
He has to show himself and show his teammates that, that he's
committed. And, you know,
and hopefully they're, you know,
there's still a bunch of people
that will blame everything last year on injuries
and frankly, it doesn't really matter.
Like, he just needs to come back
and be the dominant player
that we've seen him be before.
You're listening to the best of Halford and Brough.
You're listening to the best of Halford and Brough.
Bob the Moge Marjohnovich,
play-by-play voice of the BC Lions
here on the Halford and Bruff show
on SportsNet 650.
What up, Moge?
Nice to have you back, fellas.
The depth was tested.
If you guys were a defensive pairing,
I think they were down to like 12 and 13.
13 on the depth chart.
So it's great to have you back.
Defense like the BC Lions over here.
Hey, oh, 52 points over the weekend moge.
What the heck happened?
Just a complete breakdown in every phase,
whether it was coaching, whether it was execution,
whether it was talent level.
It's just something that, you know, this team,
it's funny because I asked Buck Pierce prior to the week.
I said, prior to the game, I said, you know,
what do you feel with the defense is?
He goes, you know, we've got to just get more consistent.
he goes communications an issue
and they just got to
it's just the little things a lot of times
but man
they've got to I hope
I hope I know they examined everything
over the course of the break
because if they're going to improve guys
there is no airlift of NFL cuts coming in
those days are over
if they're going to improve
they're going to have to improve from within
and figure it out because the cavalry's not coming
and you know a lot of people's all
in the NFL cuts
The only players that will make an impact in the CFL are those players that played in the CFL and then are coming back, like a Nathan Rourke, like a Matthew Betts.
I mean, a Jew, a Jew, pardon me, a Joe of Joe.
I forgot that one wrong.
My apologies.
A Joe of Joe, the receiver in Saskatchewan, he's another player that, you know, he's going to come back and make an impact for the Saskatchewan Rough Rider.
So it's just like it's not this airlift of NFL players because the fact of the matter is they're making so much money on NFL.
practice rosters, it's not worth their while to come back to the CFL.
And that's something that's changed over the years.
When the CFL could compete with the NFL in terms of practice roster money and the money
that they're making there versus here, yeah, you'd get a lot of NFL cuts.
But now you've got to compete with practice rosters.
You've got the XFL there as well, where players want to stay down south.
So, yeah, if you're going to improve, it's got to come from within.
Do you think they have the personnel to do it?
I do.
but I also think they're very inexperienced, right?
You look at certain players in the secondary, Robert Kent, Jr.
He's in his second year, Carter Jr.
He's a rookie, Christop Boyuz in his second year.
So these players are still growing as pros.
So, you know, they're going to be growing pains, so to speak.
But, you know, I just look at little things.
Now, give me an example.
So in that game where Arbuckle scored on the quarterback draw,
they motioned their running back out of the backfield, right?
So when that happens, there's no linebacker there.
So you are susceptible, the defensive line has to be alert to a quarterback draw.
Now, whether or not there was, it's called a gone call.
The linebacker will yell, gone, gone, gone.
And then the defensive lineman know, hey, I got nobody behind me, I've got to be really alert for a quarterback draw.
Now, whether or not that was given, I don't know, I haven't talked to the guys involved since that play.
But then what compounds it is that the defensive tackle has an inside shade on the guard.
and my guess would be if the linebacker is gone
and that gap responsibility now might fall to the defensive end
who might have a two-gap technique,
he doesn't slide over to be head up on the guard,
he still stays on an inside shade.
Well, guess what?
The guard seals him and our buckle just walks into the end zone untouched.
So just a little thing like that has to be cleaned up.
And again, it boils back down to what Buck Pierce talked about
and that's communication and attention to detail.
So, Moge, you sent along your talking points,
I got to be honest with you, your talking points read like it's Ask Us Anything Friday
because your first point is, if the CFL ever did get to 10 teams, who would the Lions
play on Labor Day, which is a very ask us any anything Friday-ish type of question?
What's your answer?
Well, here you go.
Everybody's always thinking about the Maritimes, the Maritimes, the Maritimes, and what a fit
that would be.
BC going to Halifax, Halifax, coming to BC, that type of coast.
to coast thing. Well, as of now, the CFL in the Maritimes has no pulse, right?
I mean, no one has stepped up with the necessary money. That's why the CFL's not going back
there with touchdown Atlantic or even playing any of those Argo games over there next year
because they're tired of going in there and setting up shop and, you know, getting fan
interest, but not have anyone step up to the plug. Now, so where are they focusing for a 10th team
now? Quebec City, right? So, you know, they've got.
got a great success story there with the collegiate program,
a University of Laval, Rouge, Aor.
And they're doing outstanding every year in terms of attendance.
So a lot of people are looking at Quebec City and there is money there.
Maybe it gets a CFL team.
Now, if they do get a CFL team, talk about Labor Day rivalries.
Quebec City playing the Montreal Alouettes, low, right?
So that's a great rivalry.
And if you want all 10 teams playing.
Oh, we've got Ottawa again.
It's like the Heritage Classic.
Ottawa's the lion's dance partner
If the team ever gets to 10 games
That would be their dance partner for Labor Day
Not exactly a rivalry
But that's what you're looking at
Do you think the CFL will expand?
Who knows?
I mean, it's been on the plate for so long
And they just haven't been able to find anybody
With the necessary means
Or get the government support
I guess that goes hand in hand
In terms of building a stadium
In terms of creating a place
where a CFL team could play.
I don't think it's dead in Quebec City.
I think that at least it has a pulse.
Like I said, they've got people there with money.
It'll be interesting to see because I think Quebec City would be fantastic.
And if you've ever been to Quebec City, and I have four times, it is absolutely amazing, amazing.
Yeah, that would be cool.
I think if there is one place to pick for a CFL expansion team, I would pick that.
I just, I don't know.
I don't know if it worked.
Never mind.
How about an NHL team in Quebec City, fellas?
That would be awesome, but it's not going to happen.
Yeah, but I'll tell you one thing about Quebec.
You know, people talk about rivalries.
And if anyone was around, and you guys might remember the rivalry between the Nordiques and the Canadians.
I mean, that was, it was on all levels.
It was on the political level.
It was on, you know, the hockey level.
It was everything.
It was breweries going out against one another.
So that was probably one of the most intense rivalries I can remember in any.
sport. Okay, Moj, another Ask Us Anything you've got in your talking points is what is your
favorite P&E food? And I'm going to marry this question to an actual Ask Us Anything that came
in from 5 a.m. Frank, which is when he starts texting into the show, an hour before the show
starts. Ask us anything. Does anyone enjoy the peony? I took my kids there the other day and walked
around for three hours asking myself, why is this a thing? So maybe you can start with that
and maybe food is the answer. I had an unbelievable grilled cheese from, I think it was
Mama's grill cheese truck. That's correct. Before a concert that I went to and it was, it was,
it was terrific. I don't know, with me, the peonies just about nostalgia, right? And you're right. I mean,
Um, is it a thing that I have to go to every year?
I haven't gone this year.
Oh, um, but, you know, I'd like to if I have the opportunity, maybe on Monday, I'm going to,
uh, if I have some time.
But to me, it's just about nostalgia.
It's about just simpler times.
I don't know.
It just, it just reminds me of being a kid.
Yeah.
And, and the funny thing is when you go there, it's like, yeah, okay, been there, done that.
I mean, did anything jump out for you?
Uh, no, I, it's, it's, it's nostalgia with me, too.
Like, I always, when people,
I'm one of the few
I mean along with you and
Halford like born and raised in Vancouver
and people are like what was Vancouver
like before I was like go to the P&E
that's what that's what Vancouver was
like before don't you think
though like that yeah it's just like
that's kind of the vibe of the
the city used to have before it got all big and fancy
yeah so I mean
for me like I just like walking around
you know checking things out I mean going into the
P&E forum and you know you look at this
place where the Knucks used to play back in
whatever, the 50s or the 60s,
like you're looking at these people that are hawking,
you know, hey, take this magic broom.
Guess what?
Just it'll do everything.
You know, the 9-and-1 cleaner, right?
So it's pretty funny.
But, like, you know, for me, like, some of the highlights are food,
like the one thing that I'll do if I do go there,
favorite P&E food for me,
there's a couple,
but the one that really stands out is Hunky Bill's the Pirogis.
And Hunky Bill's no longer with us.
She was an unbelievable character.
I had the pierogies, too, and a grilled cheese sandwich.
I was a little bit angry.
And, you know, just talking to Hunky Bill, the stories that that guy had, like, you know,
I mean, he knew everyone in sports.
I mean, whether it was the Kanax, whether it was the Lions,
he had stories upon stories upon stories.
And it was just great always every year to sit down and talk to him.
And, you know, his kids are still keeping the tradition going against.
The other thing, too, that I like, it's not like it's outstanding chicken.
I think it's called Henry's chicken.
where they have it by the agronom, I don't even know if they still do,
but they have like about, I don't know, like a whole area,
and all they do, they have the chicken on the barbecue spit.
Yeah.
Like on those big racks and they're flipping them.
Just walking by there in the smell.
Never mind buying the chicken.
I just want to walk by and smell that barbecue.
Oh, it's so good.
We're speaking of Bob the Moge Barjanovich here on the Halford & Brough show
on Sportsnet 650.
I'm also reading through your notes here, Mo.
This is Calgary had a surprise visitor last week.
Oh, God.
Yeah, you know, it's really funny.
I don't know what's going on.
We were talking about Caterina of Vitt a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah, yeah, sure were.
She made a trip into Calgary.
Get out of here.
Did she call you?
She's like, I'm close.
No, no.
I just text her.
So, what are you, where are you in Canada?
She says she's in Calgary.
And they guess they came in for a two-day shoot.
They were shooting a documentary about the 80s to the Olympics.
So they went to the Saddle Dome.
She skated around.
I guess they did their B-roll and their shots and all that.
Yeah, but we had a nice little exchange.
I said, hey, come to Vancouver for lunch,
but unfortunately she was already at the airport going back to Berlin
because she said it was just a short trip.
So, yeah, it was kind of funny that we were talking about
Katerina Vitt a couple of weeks ago,
and then she winds up in Calgary this battle.
You were already in the limo with the Joe Forte's spread?
We were in Rebel Stoke and then we had to turn around.
Yeah, motoring a bow tie?
Okay, one more before we...
We haven't even asked about the Michael Parsons thing.
You have the biggest football story on the planet right now.
Do you want to...
You got any thoughts on that before we let you go?
Well, I mean, you know, I think a lot of people are looking at the trade right now, and they're like, oh, you know, Green Bay won this trade.
And clearly, I mean, getting Micah Parsons for the Packers is a huge win, and they'll give them a boost.
And, you know, some of the other moves that they made in the offseason, they signed a guard banks.
I think they signed a corner.
So it looks like the Packers are going all in.
Now, conversely, you know, with the Cowboys, what do they do with those picks?
Right.
I don't know if you guys have been watching the Netflix documentary on the Cowboys.
Not yet.
But when Jerry Jones made that trade for Herschel Walker, everyone was just killing them, right?
Like they were raking them.
Well, that didn't turn out too bad for the Cowboys.
Maybe this time, maybe history repeats itself.
But it's all dependent on what the Cowboys do with those picks.
But if they get like, you know, a couple of really good players, maybe some potential
Hall of Famers or Hall of Famers, people are going to look back at this trade differently.
Moge, you're the best, buddy.
Thanks for doing this.
As always, we appreciate it.
enjoy the rest of the week and the weekend.
Enjoy Labor Day weekend. We'll do this again next Friday.
Okay, guys. Have a great weekend.
You too, thanks, buddy. That's Bob the Moj Marjanovich.
A presentation of the Clayton Public House here on the Halford & Brough Show on Sportsnet, 650.
Should we do a few what we learns and ask us anything?
Hell yes.
I mean, that's going to be the rest of the show now.
I'll do a quick one here.
And maybe we've got some audio to go along with it.
Kyle Schwerber had a decent game at the plate yesterday.
let's just hear
Kyle Schwarber
and his day.
And that one is smoked
deep to right field
toward the second deck.
So the home run for Kyle Schwarmer
his 46th of the year.
It's his fifth home run
in his last 10 games against the Braves.
That one is drilled
deep to right field
toward the pole. Go!
Second home run of the night.
This one, a two-run shot, 47 on the year.
10-3 fills.
I think the slump might be over.
That one's the opposite way.
ProFar is going back.
It's carrying pretty well.
It is gone.
It's a three-home-run nights.
It's his fourth one of his career.
He decided to go opo.
Fifteen, three, bills.
And this place is going crazy.
One, two.
That one's drilled.
Deep to right field.
He has done it.
Four home runs in a game.
A three-run, home run.
21st player all time in baseball history to have four home runs of the game.
He's the fourth Philly to do it.
And the first, it's Mike Schmidt in 1976.
Four for six.
So you mentioned that the first Philly to do it since Mike Schmidt
that all the way back in 76.
Philly's record beating Schmidt, nine RBI.
He took the outright NL Homer lead with 49,
one back of the big dumper, Cal Raleigh for the MLB lead.
And he now leads the majors with 119 RBI.
He made two outs in this game too.
He had a chance to, he came up with a position player pitching
for a chance for five homers in the game.
the first player ever to hit five, and he popped it up.
Call Schwarber is the close...
Have you ever seen, like, high-level softball,
and the guys that matched Dingers in that?
Well, it's Kenny Powers, for sure.
Yeah, but, no, Kay Powers was a pitcher.
I know, but, like, that's that vibe.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Kyle Schwabber is the closest thing we have to a softball player playing...
Yeah.
Like, he's just up there to hit Dingerers.
Right.
He's got the build.
Matt Stairs reincorninger.
Yeah, he's got a very Matt Stairs approach in the game, yes.
That was good.
Mooka how that.
Here's the trivia question for you.
Yep.
there's a player on the Mariners
who hit four home runs
Eugenio Suarez
there you go
there was a player in the Blue Jays they did it too
currently on the Blue Jays
well Mark Witten was he
Hard hit Mark Witton was Delgado
Delgado four homer game I remember it distinctly
it was like the second last game of the season
2003 yeah I listened to it on the radio
Can I say the most unlikely name on this
Sean Green
Wow yeah
Wow.
He didn't have one year where he hit 50.
He did.
Yeah.
There were some accusations, I think.
Oh, okay.
Him and Brady Anderson.
Pretty Anderson.
Yeah.
And we remember Booney?
When Booney went yard like a million times.
Lou Gehrick did it, too.
Four home runs in a game?
Yeah.
In 1932.
I was a couple days old.
Yeah.
He was in his teens.
Okay, Moocow, again.
This is a good, you know what?
Since we were talking, CFL with Moge,
and we had a sort of.
CFL ask us anything about where they would expand next.
This is a good one from Yerke in Ottawa.
I never thought about this before, but this is actually interesting.
Why isn't the CFL a single table league?
There are only nine teams and weekly travel.
Does it really need two divisions?
And so I started thinking about it.
There is no reason why that league needs an east and west.
Tradition.
Tradition.
East meets West in the Grey Cup.
that's the only reason
and maybe a little bit of
saving on travel because you play more...
But you're pining for the day
where it's a West v. West, right?
No, I know.
Yeah.
To upend tradition
because I'm a rebel.
Right.
To ruin tradition.
Many people say.
Yeah.
It's not a bad idea, to be honest.
It is weird that there's two divisions
and they're unequal
in terms of numbers of teams.
It's a five and a four is strange, right?
Well, I mean, I can't like chop one of the teams in half.
But you should, yeah, you should,
But you should work hard at making it equal.
Just had a team or make it all one, one big division, one big happy division.
Yeah.
So there was a guy, I can't remember his name now.
He was in charge of trying to build an arena for the coyotes in Phoenix.
And then he went to Ottawa and worked for Eugene Melnick.
and one of his jobs was to try and get an arena built for Ottawa
and then he went to the Halifax group
and tried to get a CFL stadium built for them
and he went I guess he's 0 for 3 now
I'm trying to find the guy
I guarantee you will remember his name
I just can't remember it right now
Cowboys Senators CFL for Halifax
I know you're such a good Googler
but I'll find it at the break
John Reddy?
No, no, no, no, no.
He was like the president of the coyotes
during those crazy years.
I mean, that's, I have to be more specific there.
I can't remember exactly what his name is.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter.
But yeah, he went 0 for three
because he didn't get one done in Ottawa
under Eugene Melnick either.
I'm surprised you haven't been able to come up with this.
This is a fairly easy Googling assignment.
I know.
It's not a Xavier Gutierrez.
No, I don't know.
Anthony LeBlanc.
Anthony LeBlanc, there he is.
Tony LeBlanc.
You are a good Googler.
Remains undefeated.
Yeah.
Anthony LeBlanc.
Do you remember how often they trotted him out?
Tony the White.
That's his nickname.
It's a strange nickname.
But I'm nonetheless.
David from Surrey with Anaskis anything.
What's more irritating?
Slow walkers or slow drivers?
Drivers.
Drivers.
I'm going to go.
Oh, man, walking up Robson with all the tourists doing the slow walk.
Yeah, well, you don't drive.
Yeah.
So it's usually easier to pass when you're walking.
Yes.
I find slow walkers easier to navigate.
Drivers are in the way and they're in the way.
Slow, no, no, no, no.
I'm taking slow walkers here.
Like, and I'm not talking about the people that, like, can't walk quickly.
I'm talking about the people that meander all over or, or they'll take up the middle of the sidewalk.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
The Robs and tourists are the worst.
For once, I'm with you on this.
It's awful. How about
how about Costco?
That's bad too, yep.
Like right in the middle of the aisle.
Just looking lost? Like, you're getting run over with this big cart.
Yeah.
I'm going to take you out.
Prevents you from getting close to the steam clock, which you love to do every day.
Oh, yes, of course.
The steam clock.
Why do you guys say drivers?
Drivers, because they're tougher to navigate through.
Yeah.
more of a roadblock
Well, I've been on a real traffic kick
The last couple of weeks
Because every time I go for coffee
I cross paths with a variety of different traffic folk
From 1130
And they are just up in arms
About the way things are going
When you go for coffee in the office
When you talk to them
It sounded like when you were driving to get coffee
No sorry
Here at the station
So we have Sportsnet 650 here
We have news 1130
And then we have some FM station
Which I think is run by robots
Jack, too.
Thank you for listening.
Here is Huey Lewis and the news.
Welcome to the Huey Lewis in the news hour.
Anyway, the robot's not great to have coffee with.
The humans are fantastic, though.
So we meet in the coffee room and, you know,
you have to wait for the coffee,
the singular coffee machine to be free.
Which is also a robot.
You chit-chat about this.
The robot makes the coffee for you.
Enough about the robots.
Yeah, you see on the robots.
So the traffic people, like,
they exist in a totally different world than we do.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Right, where like the stuff that they do.
They're passionate.
They're passionate about traffic.
They love lights, on ramps and off ramps.
I don't know.
Anyway, the thing is, is like, they're in a very weird way, the stuff that they do is far
more consequential because people rely on it.
Like, you know, people have commutes and it can be very frustrating, like stuff
that we do.
I mean, let's be honest, it doesn't matter.
One day the robots will take over for us.
You know, I'll be like, it's fine.
It's a reasonable facsimile of the guys that were there before.
But the traffic gets very heated
And the traffic guy gets very animated
About all the issues that he's got to deal with
Right
Because he gets a lot of the flack
It's like the weatherman
Yeah
The weatherman gives you bad news about the weather
He didn't make the weather
I think traffic has just defeated me
In Vancouver
And now I've actually become
A slower driver
Because I'm not trying to beat it
Yeah that's fair
It's beat you into submission
I have nowhere to go
No not in a hurry
No, you know, like when you were, when you first, when I first got my license, I was in a hurry to go everywhere.
Everywhere.
Yeah.
Like it just just, just waning in traffic would drive me crazy and I'd be changing lanes all the time.
And now I'm just kind of like, eh.
Well, I will say for, you know, I got it's, it's, it's nice.
You get some nice alone time in the car.
Waking up early is like no one loves doing it.
But one of the small joys of waking up that early, the commute to work in the morning.
Yeah.
there have been times where I get to work, I'm like,
I don't even remember driving here.
Like, there's autopilot.
That's good.
The kind of pilot that I'm on,
because there's no traffic.
There's nobody on the road.
Can we just tell the story about when I literally saved A-Dog's life?
Yeah, not even a month ago.
It was not even a month ago.
Almost died.
Now I look every, like, any time I cross that street,
I'm always like, what happened?
I actually, if you weren't listening,
you weren't interested in because you're self-involved.
But I actually saved A-Dog's life.
You did.
Here's what's happening, okay?
I'm coming down Canby Street in front of City Hall and I'm going down the hill, you know, going towards downtown.
I guess I'm traveling north.
I notice, and sometimes at that time a day, you know, 5.30 in the morning or whatever, people are kind of sleepy behind the wheel.
And I notice that this guy in front of me is going real quick towards a red light on broad.
Broadway. Okay. And I'm like, I think this guy's asleep. Like there's a lot of construction around there too. So maybe he's confused or something like that. But he was barreling down the hill towards Broadway and it's a red light. And I'm like, oh my God. I am going to see the accident of my life right now. And I was like, I had a pit in my stomach. And so light is still red. And I'm like,
What do I do here?
Like I just, so I started honking my horn, but, but behind him, and I'm kind of like, well,
I don't know what that.
This is all happening very quickly.
Sure.
And I'm honking my horn.
I'm honking my horn.
I'm honking my horn.
And I see this shadowy figure coming out of the, the subway station, about to cross the road.
And, and like, and he, and he, and he steps back because he hears me honking my horn.
This guy went right through the road.
red light at Broadway right
through. And luckily. In a second red light as well
he almost had a taxi. He went to
them. Oh, through two of them.
Yeah, so I'm going through another because I kept watching the guy
as he ripped. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was that shadow
figure. I was wearing my cake. Yeah, so
I was bad, man. So I didn't
know that you kind of ruined
the story here. Yeah. And then
as I do. Yeah, as you do. And then
I came in and I was talking to
Halford and he wasn't really listening because again, self-involved.
And I was like, I was like,
I nearly saw a crazy, like,
accident. Anyway, this guy
just kept on barreling over the bridge and into
downtown. I don't know what happened if you
like exploded there or something like that.
But anyway, so
Adog comes in and he kind of
overheard me a little bit and he
was like, I nearly got hit by a car
coming in and I was like
yeah, like, was that
you coming out of the subway?
Were you the shadowy figure? And so
my horn honking
didn't turn this guy around
but it made me look up. But it made you look
up because you were like a young person on their phone not really looking or not really
looking around. No, I wasn't on my phone. I was just, I had my headphones on so I, and I was just
sort of oblivious. But you know, you do the same walk every day of your life for years and years and
years and be more mindful. Yeah, you got to be. That was less so anyway. This guy literally like
when I'm saying like how close it was like I could have reached my arm out and the length of
my arm and touched his car. Like that's how close he was. He was barely. Like he just missed
me and I, me hearing you honking the horn maybe look like what the hell's going on here.
and this car just whips by me
and then another red light
and this taxi
skids out of the way
to keep it from hitting him
I mean I hope the guy
So for all the people that are like
Oh bruff's such a bad guy
He's always picking on Pedersen
Yeah I'm a lifesaver
You're a lifesaver
Also a lesson if you're walking across
The intersection
Even when you have the man
You should still be looking around
Because sometimes people don't know
What they're doing
Well now we're way up against it for time
It was a good story
It was
The Good's doing a lot of heavy lifting there
But we gotta go to break
When we come back
So self-involved
It didn't involve him, so he's not interested.
Just clock manning him in his cheeks.
You're listening to the best of Halford and Brough.
