It's the Moge. Yes, it's the Moge.
The presentation of the Clayton Public House.
Appreciate it taking the time, Moge.
How are you?
Good morning, gentlemen.
Happy Friday from Hamilton.
Happy, well, it's Thursday, but happy Friday.
Well, yeah, this Thursday, isn't it?
That's okay.
You're on Hamilton time.
Everything goes a little bit faster in Hamilton.
Moge, what's the future like?
Hopefully the lion's come out of this place with a win tomorrow.
Or tonight, I should say, come back tomorrow with a win.
Hopefully.
Hopefully they come out of the buy rejuvenated,
and they went in on a bit of a losing skid, I guess.
How badly did this team need that buy?
I think it needed it even from a mental and physical standpoint,
given the fact that the last team in the CFL to get a buy.
Some teams had already had two buys, and the Lions had none.
Just the chance to reset, rejuvenate, get guys healed up a little bit, and hopefully come back.
And this is a team that, you know, just talking to some of the players yesterday,
they're not too happy with the way things transpired in that last game against Hamilton.
On defense, of course, surrendering that lead with less than three minutes left to go.
So I think they're motivated.
I think the offense also looks at the fact that they had an opportunity.
to as good as they played
and they played good enough to win,
but they had an opportunity to seal the deal
at the end of the game by, you know, driving the football
and they had a two-and-out.
So there's motivation there
and then, of course, the special teams.
I think their coverage unit's got to be a lot better,
particularly the kickoff coverage unit,
I should say more so than their punt coverage unit,
but it's a motivated team,
plus the fact that, you know,
you're staring at three and six if you lose this game.
So four and five sounds a hell of a lot better
3 and 6, so there's a sense of urgency with this team.
Yeah, you mentioned heading into the by week with a bit of a gut punch there.
That's a tough way to lose that game, and the defense got a lot of the focus,
especially late in the game on the winning drive.
What kind of changes can we expect to see?
Let's start with the secondary, because on that, you know, that game-winning touchdown,
there was a fair bit of confusion there.
Yeah, well, they've made some personnel changes in the secondary,
so the boundary corner still remains Gary Peters, but Robert Carter, Jr.,
who is playing field corner, the guy with the outstanding one head to catch,
he's moved to half on the boundary side.
Christopheu remains your safety,
and then on the field side,
they've moved Ronald Kent from halfback to corner,
and Deonté Williams goes from his nickel position to half,
and then Patrice René is coming in to play the nickel position.
So they've made some changes on defense.
Clearly, they feel that this is a better alignment for what Hamilton presents on offense.
And also, I think you're going to see a defense that's going to play a little bit more aggressively.
And what I mean by that is just even in the play column, I think the lions were a little too passive in the last three, three and a half minutes of the game.
And, you know, people talked about the fact that, well, you know, it worked for whatever, 57 minutes.
Well, there's a couple of things there.
Number one, the urgency isn't there with the game on the line in those first 57 minutes.
And I think the other thing, too, is the fact that I think the field position might have screwed some of the numbers.
in the sense that, you know, he only, they said,
well, he only threw for 230, 240 yards,
whatever the number was prior to the final three minutes.
Well, they were getting the ball on their own 50-yard line half the time, right?
So you don't need to put up monster numbers to put up points.
I look at, you know, to me and more telling Saddox so many times they punt it.
And I think they only punt it three times in that game.
So to me, that's a bigger thing to look at them, say, totally yardage,
which, of course, plays a role.
But I think this is a team that learned from its mistakes.
And I think one of the big things, too, is the fact that, hey, if you want to kill a snake,
cut off the hat, right?
And, you know, they were so focused on Kenny Lawler,
they kind of forgot about the guy that delivers the football.
And that's the bull Levi-Mitchell.
And you saw the same thing in Edmonton last week.
I mean, Keandre Smith had a monster game against the Lions.
He had a monster game against the Edmonton Elks.
So if you're going into this game, I don't think the focus should be on any receiver.
I think the focus should be on stopping and doing things.
to disrupt Bo Levi Mitchell.
And was that simply down to just having the wrong scheme?
You mentioned focusing on Lawler.
Does that come down to coaching at that point
where you're just saying,
all right, we've got to reshift the focus
and change the scheme?
No, I think it's just one of the factors
that comes into play.
I mean, you know,
as much as people want to blame the secondary,
they've got to get a pass rush in there later.
I mean, the last two weeks,
Trevor Harris and Bo Levi-Mitchell could have had,
like, you know,
they could have had a three-course meal back there half the time.
They've got to get some pressure
to the quarterback. They've got to disrupt
the quarterback, get him off his mark, make him
feel uncomfortable. Julio Caravet
always says about this internal clock in
your head as a quarterback. When you're
under pressure all the time, the game
is, it speeds up for you
in a sense, like, you know, you believe you only have so
much time to get rid of the football. And the
lions haven't done that the last two weeks, and it's
something that they have to do if they want to have
some success on defense. Is that
a personnel thing? Like, do they have the talent
to effectively get into
the backfield and rush the quarterback?
Well, I think they do.
I mean, you look at Matthew Betts.
He's one of the league leaders and pressures,
so they've got to get him going against.
He only two he missed the first two games of the season,
and I think he's still trying to get up the speed,
and he was among the club leaders in Sachs last year.
Interior-wise, Dwayne Hendricks had a couple.
I think he had three sacks and was leading the team,
and Saxon was up there in the league leaders,
and then he got hurt for a couple of weeks,
so he's back, so try to get him up to speed.
So that's where I think the by-week might have helped some of these guys,
especially the linemen who have a tendency to get worn down a little bit.
But we'll see.
We're going to see tonight when they play Hamilton at Tim Horton's field.
But to me, that's one of the big keys in this game.
They've got to get a pass rush.
And I do believe that they have the talent to do it.
One way to get rid of that bad taste in the mouth from the last losses,
go back at that same team and take it to them.
But, you know, what Hamilton's been able to do,
they're seeking their seven straight victory.
And Bolivai Mitchell, you mentioned him.
Like, he's taking the league by storm again.
What's the most impressive thing about his play right now?
The way he's reinvented himself,
and what I mean by that,
this is a quarterback who was benched by head coach Scott Milanovic last year.
Like, I said, no, we're going to go with Taylor Powell.
And, you know, Bo Levi kind of really reinvented himself
in terms of his mechanics
and just being a little bit more, I guess,
sound foundationally when he's throwing the football.
His feet are in a way better shape when he's throwing the ball.
He's not like throwing off balance.
He's not throwing off his back foot.
And the other thing, too, is, you know, just listening to some of the comments during a broadcast,
Bull Levi's kind of changed his approach.
He said, you know, he used to go to the mall or play golf when he had some free time.
Now it's just going home and just chilling and relaxing.
As you get older, you do have to change your approach because your body's different.
Your body's different from when you're 32 than when you're 21.
So you've got to do things differently
and Bo Levi-Mitchell is adopted.
Like we said, the lines coming off of bi-week.
What was offensive linemen Andrew Pearson up to over the by?
Oh, so this is a good story.
So Andrew Pearson goes to Tafino during the by week
and he brings his girlfriend along with him, right?
Unbeknownst to his girlfriend,
Andrew Pearson is going to propose.
Okay?
So they're in Tafino.
He's out for dinner.
and he's got this walk planned along the beach.
And he's got the photographer, like on standby.
The photographer's going to show up, you know, take a picture from an angle or whatever,
like when he goes down to a knee and, you know, does the whole nine yards.
So dinner, and all of a sudden they get, everybody's getting tsunami warnings on their phones, right?
Right.
Oh, no.
The tsunami, remember they had the tsunami warnings and the tsunami advisories and all that.
Yeah.
So now he's trying to figure.
out, should we still go along with this?
And, you know, now he's texting the photographer while he's at dinner with his
girlfriend. He's trying to figure this out. When the photographer's, nah, if the
tsunami hits, it's going to hit 1130. You have like a three-hour window, so you're still good.
So then he convinces his girlfriend to go for a walk along the beach, despite the fact that, you
know, everyone's talking about this incoming tsunami, and she goes, do you think this is really
smart? Oh, we'll be good. We'll be fine. It'll be all good. So anyway, he somehow managed to
Invincer to go for a walk along the beach they did.
They got the picture taken, no tsunami, so everything ended happily.
But, man, you talk, I mean, that's probably one of the most nervous things
a guy can go through is that whole thing about proposing and making sure everything's
all right, especially if you've got a photographer involved.
And now you have to throw a tsunami warning into the mix to kind of add a little bit more
anxiety.
Yeah, what a wild ride, though, because I'm sure the fiancé now is probably like,
I don't trust this guy's judgment.
And then, like, 10 minutes later, you're like, I love this guy.
Yeah, talk about, hey, talk about a commitment level, right?
So it was kind of a funny story.
He was telling me, he was just talking about how nervous he was and how crazy it was.
And, you know, he was like he was trying to keep everything under wraps during dinner.
And, you know, he's going back and forth with the photographer and trying to make sure that, you know,
and she's going to be fine and all that.
So, yeah, it was kind of a funny story with Andrew and Teffito and the whole proposal thing.
Before we let you go, how are the sights and sounds of Hamilton?
discovered a new place in Hamilton.
Laddie would probably be impressed with this.
Went to Confederation Beach Park last night and went to a Greek restaurant called Barangas.
On the beach?
Yeah.
Have you been there?
I've driven by it.
I've never gone into Barangas.
Okay.
Yeah.
So it was a part of Hamilton that I've never seen.
It's not Hamilton.
It's Stony Creek.
But it was pretty cool, being just on the water.
And, you know, I think I don't realize how big, friggin.
Lake Ontario was, oh my God.
Like, we couldn't even see Toronto last night
due to the cloud cover, but by the end of the night
it kind of lifted a little bit, and you could
see just, you know, the outline of the city
like barely, but, man, Lake Ontario,
like, these great lakes, man, they're no joke, they're big, right?
So it's, we had a nice time last night, but it was really nice
going down to Barangas on the beach and just walk it around
and just kind of seeing the sights and sounds down there.
So another part of the area, and by the way,
Stony Creek, right next to Grimsby,
Which former connect players from Grimsby?
Jan Depe, you should know.
That's Kevin B.XA is going to be the pride of Grimsby, him and his father, Al B.XA.
Randeep, there you go.
You got it.
It's Kevin B.XA.
Vancouver Connect from Grimsy.
So that restaurant you mentioned in Stoney Creek is going to get a lot of business, though,
because I was in Calgary a couple of weeks ago, Moj, and I walked by Spolumbos.
And in my mind, it was your voice saying Spolumbos.
Lumbo's over and over. I felt like, you know, basically your recommendation made me go there,
made me go in that general area. So it works. I'm telling you.
Did you, uh, would you get at some homeless? You get Mummo's made low?
No, I couldn't. I went on a Sunday. I went, I went too late, unfortunately. So I walked by it.
I have to go, I have to go earlier next time. What do you have? I didn't have anything.
They were closed, Moge. Oh, they were closed? Yeah. Oh, my God.
Yeah, so I have to go back to Calgary. Oh, that's brutal. I feel bad for you. Like,
you're right there and you didn't have any of the great food
that they have. Next time. Next time. So close.
So close. Moge, appreciate
you taking the time. Enjoy the game tonight.
Okay. Take care, guys.
All right. There is Bob the Moge, Marjanovic,
part of the BC Lions broadcast team.
And he is a presentation.
He was brought to you, sorry, by the Clayton Public House.
Your home of football. Every game day, catch all the action
on 15 screens and two giant projectors.
Hamilton.
same.
Moge loves Hamilton.
I love the fact that he's like a big Hamilton guy.
It makes me very happy.
Warm's your heart?
Yeah, warms my heart.
Never been there.
Nor have I.
You've never been to Hamilton?
I think I drove by once.
You say that like Hamilton to destination.
I drove by on my one of my road trips.
As most people do, yeah.
Yeah, I didn't think, didn't look back twice.
There are nice pockets of Hamilton.
I'll put that.
And Moge found one with Confederation.
Okay.
All right.
If I ever go.
You're going to Confederate.
I will ask for Lattie's recommendations, but
that's a short list, but there'll be some key things to hit.
That's a massive if.
Ticast game is a big one.
That's really all they've got.
All right.
Tim Hortonsfield.
Hey, the first ever Tim Hortons also in Hamilton.
Is it?
Yeah.
Oh, didn't know that.
There you go.
Okay, so they got two things.
Good for them.
So, yeah, the BC lines taken on the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
Once again, it is today at 430.
so we're talking about viewing schedules.
The Mboko final match is at 3 o'clock,
so maybe you can pivot to the Lions
after Mboko wins in Montreal.
Although the men's final is also going on right, I think, 4.30.
So if you want to watch,
Elias Pedersen's good friend, Ben Shelton,
remember they did that video together when the,
was it the Rod Laver Cup was in Vancouver?
Yeah.
And they had that five minutes of just hanging out together,
Weird times.
It was weird times.
But if you want to watch, apparently, I'm going to say it,
Alias Pedersen's good friend, Ben Shelton.
Good friend.
They're probably hanging out.
Elias Patterson might be in Toronto.
He's not.
He's doing interviews in Sweden, taking pictures,
and everybody's like, ah, is he married?
What happened?
I'm glad we don't know.
I'm glad he is just keeping things private.
We could ask Peter Ekholm tomorrow when he's on the phone.
Yes, we will be talking to Peter Atchholm,
who Alias Patterson spoke to in Sweden for an interview,
which we will dive in.
to tomorrow with Peter at home regarding his summer how he's shaping up he's putting on some
muscle ready for revenge don't ask any Canucks related questions just keep asking the marriage question
over and over again in different ways okay but what where what finger was the ring on no but seriously
what's with the ring yeah did you see his wife or his fiancee or his girlfriend well
Intrepid Canucks fan reporters have noticed that his girlfriend or maybe fiancé, she posted on
Instagram a ring as well on her finger, but look to be an engagement ring. So maybe, who knows?
Maybe. I mean, congratulations, if it is true. Yeah. Was it an actual ring or was it like one of
those ring pop things? I think it was a ring. I think it was a ring. You never know.
As a ring pop enthusiast, I can confirm it.
Actual ring. Finding out so much about you this week, Andy. Ring pop enthusiasts. It could have been
AI. Yeah. You can't trust anything. Yeah, you can't trust any photo these days. Before they posted
pictures of Elias Patterson, they're like, hold on, let's AI a ring on his finger. You need to create
more controversy. Let's go. That'll show him. Yeah, a good story from for Moj about Andrew Pearson
and proposing, so when the tsunami warming warning, tsunami warming, when the tsunami warning came
in, I was like, oh man, like I got family on the island. I was concerned. And then it was,
It was one foot waves.
And I was like, ah, you know what?
I think they'll be okay.
Yeah.
And they were.
Thankfully, we have that system in place because you'd rather get the warning for a one foot wave than not get a warning for any.
But, yeah, like imagine being in that situation.
Kind of reference there with Moj, imagine being the fiancee now.
But like back then where she's like, what is this guy on?
Like the world is getting warnings.
We should not be going to the beach right now.
What is wrong with you?
Like, that might even be for some people, like not a deal breaker, but like a question of like,
have you lost your mind?
Or for him, is it like, oh man, is this a sign?
Like, should I not be proposing?
The world is against me right now.
Okay, so that's the other perspective.
Somebody who, what, tied the knot last year?
I did.
Proposed the year before.
Did you propose in the middle of a natural disaster?
No, no, I did not.
It was at a lake and there was no tsunami at said, like.
Buntz and Lake, close to here.
In December, though, it was very cold.
No one foot waves there.
No, I will say the photographer's situation, because I also hired a photographer,
It's stressful, man, because you've got to, like, locate them when you walk out there.
And then you also have to have a signal for, like, when you are ready to propose so that they're not just, like, taking pictures of strangers.
And what was your signal?
The dialogue here.
What a beautiful view.
Coon, coo!
Just a random noise.
I think my signal was wrong with Josh.
I, like, tapped her on the back, but I did it too many times.
So the photographer, like, multiple.
multiple times was like, oh, it's happening. Then it didn't
happen. Wait, you just kept
tapping her on the back? Well, I think I was
nervous. She was involved in the signal?
No, it was like a, it was a back rub
situation. It was, it was like, it was
natural. I meant it. No, it wasn't
like a full back room. Oh, man.
Could you imagine if it was like baseball style?
Like, can I get a righty from the bullpen?
Like, he's got like,
like, what are you doing? Josh, much you having a
seizure. Yeah. Yeah.
It was, uh, it was stressful. And
then you're also in your head about like how am i going to propose where am i going to do it and i
had like had gone and scouted the area before it's a lot man it's a lot and it was uh oh it was worth
it i guess in the end okay one photographers like you know that's stressful i know some like
some people get multiple angles on this so they have multiple photographers yeah which is like
you can have your teams i think one is enough for a proposal it's like one's enough if you
one at multiple photographers at your wedding.
I, like, I only had one, but I guess I get that just to get.
I get that, but like a multiple photographers at a proposal is pretty wild.
When did the, the photographer at the proposal become a big thing?
Like, I don't know, I don't, but I, I probably coincide with the rise.
I should have it.
Yes, yeah, exactly.
Lots of photographers and videographers at the wedding.
Yeah.
At the proposal?
Like, I didn't have anyone there.
I took a picture after.
Yes.
Greg, it kind of.
Some people still do.
that. I think it coincides with about the same time as like, you know, remember when we
start, like, I don't, but like kids, you know, parents of kids that celebrate their kindergarten
graduation on Instagram. Yes. Like that became a thing, what, five to seven years ago? Or like the
gender reveal? That became a thing sort of out of nowhere. It's a certain generation hitting
Instagram and now everything. Gender reveal isn't successful unless at least one person dies.
Yes. Or if there's a baseball bat. It's a broken limb at least. Yeah. We got to keep scaling up gender
reveals until it's just it's out of hand yeah um yeah i don't know because we dude there's so many things
you got to do for a wedding that i i was just so not prepared for like you like you got to do like
an engagement photo shoot too which is different than the proposal photos shoot yeah it's a different
thing and i don't know it's it's a lot of commitment i'm glad it's over i'm glad it's done and i can
just enjoy being married now you're not going to have anniversary photos shoots oh dude our my anniversary
in exactly a month.
All right.
I have nothing planned.
I have nothing planned.
Don't admit that.
She's not listening.
For a guy that was taking
recommendations on what movies to watch,
I feel like you should be taking recommendations
on what to do for your first anniversary.
Get your priority straight in.
Send in some restaurant submissions.
Drive-through Burger King maybe.
Yeah, it might be a Wopper Wednesday.
Who knows?
Yeah, that'd be sick.
Something like you grill at the Metro Town.
Like spice it up a little bit.
We're going to Tinseltown.
It's going to be a great time.
Catch a movie?
Go to some stores.
I don't know which ones, but...
You can take her to the coove sign.
I mean, it's being built now.
Yeah, exactly.
And the cooves store down the street.
That's right.
It could be a cove day.
Yeah.
Wow.
What a time.
What a time.
Thomas Mueller themed anniversary.
Yeah.
Go to a match.
Go to a German restaurant.
Get some schnitzel.
Is she...
Yeah, there you go.
Is she a soccer person?
She's not German, nor is she into soccer.
Oh, okay.
But surely it'll work out.
Is she into schnitzel, though?
Not particularly.
It'll be okay.
Who's not?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I can not fail.
I see it.
Ultimate success.
It's all going to work out.
Get the text in, 650, 650.
We're going to get into what we learns.
On the other side, I have been super bad at pushing it.
So we need some submissions on the 650, 650, 650.
Dumbar Lumber text line.
It is Halford & Brough.
Before we go, though, the BC Lions, Saturday, August 16th,
your Lions face to the alouettes for the show and shine game
featuring over 200 classic and exotic cars.
Get tickets at BCLions.com.
And is Alfred and Brough, Josh Elliott Wolfe, and Deep Jandau on SportsNet 650.
Now for my favorite part of the show, what I say?
Talk to the audience.
Oh, God, this is always dead.
It's what we learn time.
It's what we learn time.
It's what we learn time
On the show

I had to rush that one. That was good. I was trying to slow it down and then I was like,
oh, no, it's coming. Halford does that all the time. It's hilarious, the speed talk.
Yes. You hear a building? I'm glad I got it, though. That's going to be my goal. I don't know
if I'm driving the bus next week. I'm hosting a Jamie, the morning show.
But if I'm going to make him try to do it a few times
And if he does it better than me
I am going to be disappointed
I feel like that Monday show
I'm not involved with the show next week
But as a listener
It'd be great to have like a competition on Monday
To see who is leading the show
We'll play
I'm on vacation for two weeks
And he's like I could care less
And he's Barrett
We're gonna do American Gladiator style
Tournament to see who drives the bus
Josting maybe a little bit
There will be no host by Friday
What we learned is brought to by
AJ's Pizza on East Broadway
AJ's original signature pies are a must try
like the Detroit inch thick crust
crispy cheese on the Detroit
topped with Parmesan and Basel
order online at AJ's dot pizza.
So what we learned, I'll start today.
Okay.
All right.
So I saw this on the timeline.
One of my favorite KHL teams,
the Kunloon Red Star.
Sorry, what, your favorite?
Your favorite KHL team.
Okay.
Yeah, I mean, who doesn't?
Based in Beijing, China, it's going to have a new name.
They're not going to be the Red Star anymore.
They're going to be the Shanghai Dragons,
which I think is an infinitely cooler name, if I'm being honest.
Okay.
I like the branding.
It's better branding.
But they're moving from Beijing to the rival city of Shanghai.
So it's not even like, it's like if you had one Canadian team and said,
we're going to Toronto
we don't see you later
it goes even deeper than that because they play out of
St. Petersburg Russia
oh yeah they don't even play in China
yeah so it makes it even more of a bizarre move
they're just uh yeah so it's a weird thing
it's a weird thing that they do
but the uh by the way also the leading
point getter for
the Red Star last year
was former Canuck
Tyler Graivac
he had 36 points in 60
seven games
for the Red Star
so
you know
Kinnucks well
represent this is actually
why they're my
favorite team
apparently Adam Kraknell
used to play for them
Really?
Bill Bear Brulet
Yeah
some former Kinnucks
Or sorry actually
I do know that
because they are
my favorite team
Another former Kinnock
on this team
once traded
for Gustav Forsling
Adam Klen Denning
Wow
on the
I guess the Shanghai
Dragons
now the Shanghai Dragons
who they missed
the playoffs
last season. They're going to try to make a return
this year. So both Clendening and Forreling have seen their
careers just take off. Just that trade.
It's been huge. It's been a meteoric
rise. So yeah,
Mucow that.
Randy, what do you got?
All right, watching the Colorado Rockies
yesterday, it really inspired me to look into history.
And the Colorado Rockies,
we talked about the three games set
they had against the Blue Jus, historic
in their very own right.
Yep. But they are in track to lose
135 games this season,
As of right now, that would smash Major League Baseball's modern era record,
which was set last year by the Chicago White Sox at 121 losses.
Like, not only, they've got a buffer to break this record, which is wild.
That's how bad they are.
They're going to be the worst team we have ever seen in the modern era.
I mean, and they might go on a run.
Who knows?
You know what, it's wild.
Adnan said they were playing better of late.
Yeah, which, well, I mean, and then the Blue Jay.
were like, no, you're not.
Does the Coors factor make them worse?
The fact that teams can just come in and pummel them like that?
I think so, because they don't have the hitters, right?
Like, if they had a great offense, it's like, well, the Coors thing might help.
But teams come in with better offenses, and they're like, ah, this field's pretty great.
This is awesome.
But wouldn't Coors raise their floor a little bit, too?
You'd think, like, every once in a while, they'd win a couple in a row, but it just never seems to
happen.
And so I put out a tweet yesterday about them and essentially talking about a promotion
relegation. Like if any sport in
North America, it could maybe work.
It'd probably be baseball because there's a lot of like
organizations in cities. And Rocky's fans
were, apparently there are
Rockies fans. They were angry
with me saying, we are not
tanking. We just suck.
Yeah. That's different. I was like, all right, at least
you're passionate about something. All right.
They are better at home than they are on
the road, by the way. They're 16 and 42
at home. They're 14 and 42 on the road.
So I mean like two games in hand
on the road, but I wouldn't bank on them
winning those two games.
Colorado Rockies' team slogan.
We're actually trying.
We promise.
We're just bad.
That makes it worse.
We're just trash.
So the Rockies also with that series, their run
differential is now over
negative 300.
So good for them.
Ouch.
Mucow that.
It's over a knee for a muco.
Yeah.
Negative 300 run differential.
Sorry.
What we learned, there was a bit of a legend in town
yesterday at Nat Bailey, you guys.
I don't know if you guys saw this going around social media.
Kevin Kiermeyer is in town.
He's a coach with the Blue Jays.
He spent most of his year, his season in Dunedin,
and he was actually at the Dodgers were down in Florida,
and he got his ring the other day.
And apparently he flew up to Vancouver,
and he was coaching the outfielders at Nat Bailey yesterday.
He was on the field.
He had a uniform and everything.
And one of the pictures the Canadians posted was him jumping at the wall
and reaching over.
I wonder what he was teaching the guys when he was doing that move.
I also want, like, what is he just being like, hey, do this jump, you know?
You see the warning track, get ready to jump, and then you jump, and you steal the home run.
Usually you catch it.
If you're me.
Yeah, that is cool, though.
Kevin Kiermeier.
At a very basic level, it'll be like, this is good.
Yes.
Do it.
When you said legend at Nat Bailey Stadium, I don't know if you guys have seen.
You're not soccer guys.
I have seen what you're talking about.
Carlo Ancelotti is in Vancouver, and he is the manager of Brazil, Real Madrid over the years,
Meiland, like, legendary player, but even a better manager.
His significant other is from Vancouver, so he spends his summers out here.
And I may have tried to DM him to get him on the show.
I am trying my best to get Carlo and Shiloki on the show.
Efferdean.
He has not looked at my message, but if that changes over the next week or so,
my hope is to have him on 6.50.
And he was wearing a Vancouver Canadiens hat.
So maybe we could get him on to talk seas.
Yeah.
Oh, really? Okay.
You should just stake out Nat Bailey and just hang out there all day and hopefully you'll see him.
So an Italian in the city would obviously go to commercial drive, but that's too obvious.
Yeah.
You've got to go to like a low key spot, which is like, oh, I won't get noticed there.
Right.
So I'm on the mission.
My goal is probably just everywhere else in the city.
By next Friday, it's true.
By next Friday, my aim is to get Carlo Ancelotti on the station.
You know what?
If you do, I'll be proud of you.
It'll be great.
I think I'm going to fail miserably, but I'm going to try.
I'm in his DMs, all right.
You're in his DMs.
He slid in and we will see if he gets a reply.
Mook how that will print out the humanoid submissions.
And we dive into the Dunbar Lumbertext line, 650, 650.
We'll start with this one from basketball, Phil.
What we learned, it's also SGA Day in Hamilton,
the greatest Canadian basketball player ever
and the best Canadian male athlete in the world
will be at the game in Hamilton tonight to watch the BC Lions.
A lot of Hamilton talk on the show today.
I know, this is your dream, man.
Wow.
I don't know if it's that entertaining of a radio show, but hey, I got my Hamilton talk.
We're up in our Hamilton audience by four, maybe.
And they're all related to Lattie here.
Went to school with all of them.
Yeah.
Okay, best Canadian basketball player of all time, can we confirm that now?
I will, yeah.
NBA championship.
Sorry, Steve Nash.
I was arguing with Dom for, because it's Dom.
And he was like, Jamal Murray.
is the best Canadian basketball player.
This was before the...
Of all time?
This was before the Thunder won.
And then even at the time, and I'm a Nuggets fan.
Like, I like Jamal Murray.
I was like, no, it's SGA.
And then they won.
He had to be like, yeah, okay, it's SGA.
I'm like, well, it was before,
but now it is even more.
Yeah, and like, to me,
Murray and Steve Nash are probably comparable
because Murray's got the playoff success.
Steve Nash had the regular season success.
I'd still go Steve Nash.
Same here.
Yeah.
Well, like, to me, Nash is number.
Number two on that list, SGA by far now.
Has to be number one.
Is he the best Canadian, or, yeah, best Canadian male athlete in the world?
Do we agree with that moment?
Yeah.
Okay, so.
I feel like it's hard to, like, we can't, I feel like hockey has to be excluded just because,
I mean, even if you include it, it's, it's.
McDavid is so good.
McDavid is so good.
But SGA is also so good in a sport where we generally don't dominate, you know?
Yeah.
So, okay, MVP-level Canadians, like, on their team, who is the best player?
And SGA is that?
Connor McDavid is that.
Like, I think the conversation, as much as I love Alfonso Davies, like, he's not an MVP on his team.
He's a key part of his team, but he's not the guy on Byron Munich.
Like, there's other individuals that are the key to that team.
He's a heck of a complementary piece.
McDavid, SGA is the conversation.
Tough sport to rise to the top, though, in, right?
Especially for the left back, right?
If he was the best player in the world in soccer,
we would not stop talking about O'Franzo Davies.
If you're a left back, it's tougher, right?
Like, if you're a defender, it's tougher.
Like, when you score goals, it's always going to be easier.
And that's what SGA obviously gets the basket.
McDavid scores the goal, sets them up.
It's a lot easier on that front.
Basketball field, Texan, SGA is one.
McDavid has not.
That's the tiebreaker.
I can agree with that.
I'll lean SGA for now, but I mean, if Connor McDavid way...
McDavid's going to be on the rush more, though,
when he's done his career.
Whether he wins the Stanley,
Cup or not. Like I feel like
he has done something we
have not seen in hockey.
Like at the end of the, at the end of it
he's going to be like he's in that conversation for me.
Yeah. What we learned
Adam, the former bath guy, Austin
Nola was a pitcher, catcher,
and a first baseman in the
three games sweep from
the Toronto Blues. What was matter? You can't play shortstop?
Yeah. Can't play outfield? I mean,
it wouldn't have been worse results. I'm sure.
It would have been fine for
for Nola. I did feel bad.
You might need to take over for that interim manager
while he's at it too, because
that's a rough job to have right now.
It's been too long since we've had a player manager.
We need a player manager.
We've got to bring him back.
And if any team is to do it, it would be the Colorado Rockies.
Save money on the salary.
Yeah.
A little bit more for us.
Come on.
It's a win-win.
650, 650.
This one, Tray the Gulf Island fairy worker.
What we learned, there will be a historic MLB debut this weekend.
Jen Pawal will become the first woman
to umpire regular season MLB game this weekend
during the Braves and Marlins series.
So,
history,
history being made.
Awesome,
but at the same time,
I also ask,
what took so long?
Like,
it feels like so many other sports have been
kind of there before.
I mean,
the NBA kind of led the way.
As hockey,
hockey hasn't had a...
I think hockey has either,
yeah.
So,
that's a great story,
but it's also like,
all right,
this could have been done a while ago.
And also do hockey for that.
matter as well like officials why can't that happen yeah i like there there shouldn't be a reason that
i mean i guess in hockey maybe you can make the argument i don't necessarily agree with it but maybe
you can make the argument uh that it when when there's scrums and stuff you might have to get in
and break it up and maybe maybe there's a physical limitation but i think if you're you're a ref
generally it's the linesmen that that break it up anyway you could have a you could have a
ref a female ref and i don't think that would be uh an issue at all it'd be
something I would welcome personally. Yeah, balls and strikes, you know. That is definitely not an
issue. Yeah. It should be, uh, so we'll see. We'll, uh, I'm excited for her history this weekend,
uh, between the Braves and Marlins. Uh, what we learned, uh, Robin Surrey, what I've learned
is that I actually thought that Happy Gilmore 2 was better than the first one. We were talking about
this earlier in the show. And Rob says, many people agreed as the rotten tomato score for each
are essentially the same
63%
and 62% for the movies
Are there a recency bias going on
I'm sure
Are there are these many people in the room
Do we know if they actually exist?
Like yeah I didn't mind it
But I still right now
I wouldn't be like well it's better than the first one
You like a two hour clip show with lots of cameos
Then yeah go for it
There were a lot of cameos
And like halfway through I was like
It's just gonna be a lot of cameos
Want an actual movie?
Yeah
Maybe go somewhere else
Okay, I haven't watched it, but like, I am not going to watch it.
Like, I've made that decision based on just what I've heard.
I don't think I'm going to really enjoy this movie.
Until it wins it an Oscar for film of the year.
Best picture?
For cinematography.
Best picture.
Yeah.
Cinematography.
Most cameos in a movie.
There you go.
Best written feature film of the season.
Might win a couple of teen choice awards or something.
Yeah.
Greg and Pitt Meadows, what we learned, I listened to British soccer
podcast and
Mueller's signing has resulted in
them talking about the Vancouver white caps.
I'm not entirely sure casual fans
really understand how biggest signing
this is. The white caps are
going to be the club that is actually
a road attraction now
with other teams selling tickets to
see him. That's something we haven't really
talked about is that like now when the white caps go on
the road, it's obviously not going to be to
the messy level, but it's going
to be like when the white caps
go somewhere,
Cities and teams are going to be like, oh, Thomas Mueller is coming to this city, come get tickets.
Yeah. Success, you know, the word travels fast, right? Success travels a long way and that's what he's been able to do with Byron Munich, right? So there is going to be that element. And I think that's why MLS was very keen on getting this deal done. There was even rumblings that they were kind of in the ear of Cincinnati to say, all right, speed this up. We know you want, you know, you want something in return for the discovery rights, but it's more important that this deal gets done. So there will be a domino effect when it comes to pockets of.
fans in every market coming out and saying, we want to watch this guy, but is it going to be
the mania we saw with Messi or other players maybe? Not necessarily, but like Andrea Pierlo
playing in MLS or Stephen Gerard, Frank Lampart, Terry Henri, like it's going to be, I would
say pretty similar to those to say player that you followed, player that had a lot of success,
and what might be different from those guys, some of those guys anyways, is that he can still
make an impact.
Gerard and Lampard were not very good when they came to MLS.
Henri was pretty good.
Pierlo was kind of had a map, like, you know, he was meh too.
So Mueller's going to be better than those guys, just the way he plays.
Yes.
And so the other part of that, listening to British soccer podcast and getting the
international attention, I do, again, the thing I keep coming back to is like, I wonder how
big of a ripple impact this is going to have on the white caps moving forward.
that's part of why like this individual signing is very exciting
but I'm also very excited to see what happens in the future with the white caps
because it is it is something that kind of puts them on the map
more than they have ever been in the past
aside from maybe when they had Alfonso Davies
and there was rumbling about like oh where is he going to go
and what he's doing in Vancouver
this is very different from the white caps and the way they used to deal with it before
they would talk a good game before but the action wouldn't really follow
Whereas I think with Schuster, it's, hey, we're not going to necessarily talk about these things.
We're going to do it first, which is kind of refreshing because your heart's not broken.
It's not like you're left at the altar.
You didn't even know what was going to happen.
So it's a pleasant surprise, right?
So I think there will be a brand recognition for this team across Europe.
How long does that last?
Like if the good headlines continue, if he has a good start and if they end up making it deep into the playoffs or even win the thing,
then all of a sudden, that talking point, that good.
Good PR continues well into the offseason.
And then you can use that to potentially hit up other players to say, see, we can do that.
You can make a good paycheck and be a part of a winning culture.
Yeah.
What we learned, Rob and Surrey, what I've learned is that the show today has been very wrestling adjacent
as both Arda and Adnan have worked as commentators for the WWE during their broadcast careers.
That's true.
Yeah?
Arda, yeah, had a moniker.
I think Adnan was known as Adnan.
That was his normal name. He didn't have like a stage name. He wasn't the Brooklyn brawler or something like that.
He should have been. That would have been great. I'm a wrestling guy. Like I grew up watching a lot of it. I don't think you're a big wrestling guy.
No, no. Like every once in a while all the, you know, the big events like pop up on my Twitter and I'm like, oh, this is kind of interesting.
Like I feel like I have a general idea of what the storyline is right currently. It's kind of like soap operas.
Yeah. People change, but the storylines usually say very similar. Yes. But no, I just.
aside from like a brief moment in my childhood where I was like super into Ray Mysterio.
I've never been a wrestling guy.
Do you still like keep up with everything going on?
So my dad's a lifer.
When he came to Canada in 1970, he started watching like Stampede wrestling.
This was like the old, you know, heart dungeon and all that sort of stuff.
So my dad still watches it.
Like he's older now, but he still will watch Raw on Smackdown.
So I keep in touch with it through him.
Right.
I don't really, I'm not watching the.
like the pay-per-view.
You're not getting sit down for the pay-per-views.
But their content is pretty good these days.
Like on city TV,
they'll have like WWE rivals.
It goes behind the scenes and talk.
It's like,
WWE has really cranked up their content
in terms of telling stories beyond just the show itself.
The thing I find interesting now is that they have the like Netflix show.
I don't remember what it's called.
But it's like the behind the scenes.
Yeah.
So they're kind of going to the story lines and all that.
That to me is interesting.
because I don't, have they ever done that before?
I feel like they try to like keep up the facade.
Yeah.
And that's changed over the last decade because in the 1990s, like you couldn't, you couldn't
break that.
You couldn't let the secret out, even though everybody knew.
Now they're very much out in the open.
Like Triple H will talk about storylines and how to, I haven't watched that Netflix doc that
you're talking about, but I will be just because it's a fascinating side of it.
It's like S&L.
They have writers.
They have people that actually come up with storylines.
I have all of this stuff that I think the average,
maybe casual wrestling fan
or might have watched like Hulk Hogan
or a macho man back in the day.
They don't realize that,
but there's like, this is,
this is legit,
like they have writers and they have a creative team.
Soap opera.
Yeah.
It's called,
we got a few texts saying,
it's called WWE Unreal on Netflix.
I was trying to pull up Netflix.
And then I was like,
oh, we're at work.
And Netflix is blocked.
So that's an issue.
But thank you for the people texting
and telling us what the name is.
I have seen some clips from it.
And that's like, even as someone that's not a wrestling fan, I'm like, oh, it's interesting to see how they, like, come up with this stuff and, and, you know, the adjustments they have to make and all that.
All right. Jake comes in with a question here.
Yeah.
What would your finishing moves be?
There's a lot of this has to, like, it has to be physique related.
Has to fit your vibe.
So for me, I am not picking anyone up.
I am not, uh, it would, it would have to be some.
Flying through the air, maybe?
Yeah, maybe.
Maybe.
I don't know what I would call it, but I think I would need some momentum.
Mine would be the serial slam where I just, uh, it would have to be something.
throw boxes of cereal at them
until they tap out.
That's a good one.
They choke on a fruit.
Relatless.
Yeah, and eventually just buried
by cereal boxes.
Yeah.
Which on their own don't weigh a lot,
but you stack, you know,
100 on top.
You get in a group.
A pointy corner, get you in the eyes.
That would hurt.
Cinnamon toast crunch.
He's throwing them like.
Throw the cinnamon toast crunch
right into their mouth
so it scrapes the roof.
It's like a ninja star.
Worst.
I could see Josh being like a Rayma stereotype,
just kind of flying through the air.
That would be my thing, man.
Because I do not,
I do not have the strength,
nor the size.
And so I'd just be all heart.
Okay.
Okay.
I was,
I would have to go probably,
I'm not flying through the air either.
Like,
I'm not aer dynamically sound that way.
But probably like a people's elbow type of thing.
Maybe something that's stationary for the other person where I can kind of build up the drama.
So I'll go,
I'll go people's elbow.
I thought Hulk Hogan,
I know he passed recently.
I thought his finisher was terrible.
The leg drop is the worst finisher.
Like,
no athleticism.
You're just dropping your leg on.
Zero creative.
Yeah.
Big frog splash guy
You know off the top rope
And you kind of like
Oh, I do know this
Eddie Guerrero finisher
I'm for that
But I don't know if I'd be able to get the airtime
Yeah, fair enough
I do
Speaking of Hogan
I feel like the thing I've learned
Most recently aside from some other stuff
Is that he is just like
Was not a good wrestler
But he was a good character
Yes, yes
Like his actual like tactical moves
Were not great
And so the finisher included in that, I guess, was also not great.
Yeah, some of the most technical wrestlers ever are, like, Mr. Perfect, Brett Hart's up there.
Hulk Hogan is not usually ranked in that conversation.
All right, that's going to do it for the show today.
That's the most wrestling talk we've ever had on the show, by the way.
Yeah, and it'll probably be, I'll never be doing the show ever again.
No, no, because of that.
Appreciate everyone texting in and listening.
Thank you to A dog.
A dog.
Thank you to Lattie.
Thank you to Randiap Jan in my co-host.
I've been Josh L.A. Wolf. This has been
Halford & Brough on SportsNet 630.
