Starting point is 00:02:17 Moj, that game last night, yikes. Just an all-around bad performance by the Lions. Rick Campbell called it a bad day at the office, and we are having a lot of conversations. We had a lot of conversations earlier this morning about Vernon Adams and Nathan Rourke has entered the chat as well. First of all, your takeaways from the loss to the Blue Bombers? Well, I think you saw a team that was playing with a lot more urgency and intensity last night in Winnipeg. The Lions just couldn't get anything going. I mean, it was...
Starting point is 00:02:48 And I'll kind of rephrase that offensively. I thought the Lions' defense didn't play that bad in the first half, considering the fact they only had two first downs. It was just, you know, the constant two and out for the Lions' offense. And the defense held Winnipeg to 13 points. So it's not like the defense played poorly in the first half. But as the game wore on, I mean, the time of possession, I think, was like 41 to 19. So it was just, you know, as the game wore on, the defense just got worn down.
Starting point is 00:03:20 And eventually, you know, Winnipeg just started running the ball. And then even the defense kind of looked bad but look at the offense last night and it just whatever they did Winnipeg had an answer for and I think the big thing was you know they really didn't rush or blitz Vernon Adams that much
Starting point is 00:03:37 dropped a lot of guys in coverage and they were just jumping routes all night long so it was tough and the Lions you know that's the thing about sports and football in particular. It's about making adjustments and kind of like, you know, they're going to do something. Well, they're going to take that away. Well, now we have to do this.
Starting point is 00:03:56 So I think that's what's going to happen with this team. And the thing that was kind of surprising, too, Winnipeg has the worst rush defense in the league, and the Lions, I don't think, ran the ball until their fourth series. So I was a little surprised they didn't go to the run and try to establish that early. Did Calgary a couple weeks ago give teams around the league the playbook on how to defend the Lions?
Starting point is 00:04:17 You've been reading Farhan Lalji's tweets, is that it? That's it. That's exactly it, yes. It is a copycat league, though, a lot of times in terms of teams and success. I mean, you know, obviously everybody scouts games and scouts tendencies and stuff like that. And, you know, they saw what Calgary did and said, hey, let's give it a whirl. But, you know, again, I think the big thing last night was that Winnipeg was just at a different intensity level.
Starting point is 00:04:42 I mean, they were playing for, excuse me, they were playing a lot more, they were playing with way more aggression, right? So it just seemed like the Lions were just, they were flat last night offensively, and Winnipeg was sky high, and it just kind of kept snowballing throughout the game. Okay, let's take a breather from the game last night
Starting point is 00:05:03 and talk about the article you wrote about Nathan Rourke and the conversation that you had with Jeff Garcia. What was the idea behind your story and what did Jeff have to say? Well, you know, it's kind of a similar situation, although Jeff had a little bit more body of work in the Canadian Football League. But I guess the gist of the story was that if you are going to get that opportunity in the nfl you have to have somebody that believes in you right and right now as we've seen with nathan orc um he really doesn't have that champion in his corner jeff garcia had come off a breakup and for people that don't know former quarterback with the calgary Stampeders, went down and got a start with the San Francisco 49ers, became a pro bowler, had a lengthy NFL career as a starter.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Garcia had tried the same thing. He went down and tried his hand at the NFL, and he only had two teams that showed interest in him. It wasn't like there was 15 teams that were trying to sign Jeffff garcia one was miami and they had dan marino established there and the other was san francisco and the thing is with san francisco bill walsh um was a big jeff garcia fan and walsh had coached against garcia remember when walsh left san francisco he went to stanford for like three or four years and then came back to the 49 organization as a general manager um when he coached at stanford he had seen garcia play against stanford when jeff was at san jose state so he really liked what he saw and he was that guy who was you know in his corner who believed in jeff and And the interesting thing that Jeff talked about was the fact that once he got the opportunity,
Starting point is 00:06:48 that almost worked as a motivator for Jeff to prove people that, you know, Bill Walsh wasn't going out on a limb, that he was a good quarterback. And he used that as motivation, he used that support as motivation to prove people right, that, you know, that he was a good quarterback. So bottom line is, you have to have somebody who believes in you right jeff garcia had bill walsh right now nathan rourke doesn't have that person the falcons must like him in some form though because they tried to claim him off waivers that new england had priority so new england got him last season and they they brought him in and they they've added. Is there anyone in Atlanta that you've heard of
Starting point is 00:07:27 that specifically likes Nathan Rourke? Or do you think this is more about, I don't know, what do you think this move is about for Atlanta? I just think they're looking at him. They probably saw the film that he had last year with Jacksonville in preseason. Liked what they saw. I just want to give them an opportunity and say, well, let me rephrase that.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Give him a spot on the roster and see what he can do with it. But, I mean, look at the depth chart. I mean, they just invested millions of dollars in Kirk Cousins. I think it was $168 or something like that. And then you have Michael Penix Jr., who is, what, the seventh-round pick in the draft. So, man, for him to get an opportunity in Atlanta, there would have to be a series of catastrophic events. And when I'm talking about an opportunity,
Starting point is 00:08:17 I'm talking about playing time on the field, getting reps during the course of the season. So, again, the deck is kind of stacked against him. It's not like, you know, he's going in an organization and they say, hey, we're going to give you 50% of the reps in practice and maybe even give you some reps in the games and see what you're going to do. So when will it be decision time for Nathan Rourke? Have you heard anything about CFL teams talking to his agent?
Starting point is 00:08:47 Have you heard anything about the BC Lions talking to him? No, and I think because everyone believes that Rourke is going to try, you know, giving the NFL, I mean, just play out this season and see how it goes, right? Next year, who knows? In terms of the NFL, if he gets an opportunity somewhere where he actually believes that he's going to
Starting point is 00:09:10 get an opportunity to play, maybe he signs with an NFL team. I can't see that happening because if it was to happen, it probably would have happened by now. I see him coming back to the CFL probably next year. You're not going to get
Starting point is 00:09:25 anything official from Rourke or the Lions. But, I mean, if you look at everything, I think he would probably like to come back to BC. But, again, it's a situation where,
Starting point is 00:09:37 you know, I think he's going to let things play out at the National Football League this year and then see where it goes in the offseason. What if he gets cut by the Falcons, though? Would he prefer to just kind of hang around down there
Starting point is 00:09:51 and see if he can grab a spot maybe mid-season? I don't even know how this works. Is he just going to kind of hang in the States as opposed to come back to Canada and play? Because as soon as he came back to Canada, he'd be playing somewhere. Yeah, and that's a good point, right? I mean, it's a fluid situation, clearly. And if he gets cut by Atlanta, does he get another opportunity somewhere?
Starting point is 00:10:20 Does he kind of keep working out, keep hoping that maybe he finds a spot somewhere? Somebody he kind of like, you know, keep working out, keep hoping that, you know, maybe he finds a spot somewhere, you know, somebody gets hurt, poor play, whatever the case may be. Maybe he continues that journey in the National Football League. So there's a lot of ifs involved. I don't see,
Starting point is 00:10:40 again, I don't see him coming back to the CFL this year. Is this conversation disrespectful to Vernon Adams? Yes and no. When you look at what Vernon Adams has done this year, clearly a leading candidate for most outstanding player. And people are talking about bringing Nathan Ward back, right? I mean, what else do you want the guy to do?
Starting point is 00:11:02 Like I said, he's the most outstanding player right now, up until the last two weeks i guess but yeah probably in a way but in the other way too it's it's it's business it's the sport right i mean and they're hosting the gray cup this year for me that's like that's that's the thing right like i i know every season it's important to win and get to the Grey Cup but we've been building up to this certainly since Amar Dolman bought the team and you know it's one of those things where if you're not doing everything to give your team the best chance to win you're not doing your job and I just wonder I wonder what kind of conversations that they're having in private that they would never admit to having.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Are they talking about how they might be able to get Nathan work? Are they talking about their concern level about Vernon Adams? Because to me, Vernon Adams, when I watch him play, I know he's capable of making plays, but I don't fully trust him to deliver the Lions to the Grey Cup. That's just my personal opinion. I don't know how you feel about it. I think I could trust Vernon to get the Lions to the Grey Cup.
Starting point is 00:12:16 I mean, the bottom line is it's a business, right? And I think you've nailed it. The Grey Cup's in Vancouver this year, I think if Vernon Adams Jr. was lost for the season, I think they might be aggressive in obviously going out and trying to find another quarterback, right? And whoever that quarterback may be, maybe it's Nathan Rourke, maybe they get in touch with him. But right now, hearing what I'm hearing is the fact that it's going to be
Starting point is 00:12:42 weeks, not months, when it comes to Vernon Adams Jr., that knee injury. So, again, I just see Rourke playing the string out in the National Football League this season and, you know, going from there in terms of whether or not he's going to come back to Canada. All right, Moj, Marcus and Gibson hasn't asked us anything for you. And believe it or not, it's food related. Moj, Marcus asks, what are you bringing to a summer barbecue if it's bring your own meat bring your own what meat meat yes okay you know what i've done this
Starting point is 00:13:17 before and it's been an absolute hit um little serbian delicacy called cevapcica. The one now? Cevapcica. Cevap. Google it. C-E-V-A-P. There are these little tiny cigar-shaped sausages. They're not even sausages. It's more like just ground beef.
Starting point is 00:13:40 It's ground beef, ground veal, and ground pork, right? With spices. And you serve them with a Serbian type of bread called lepina. And you also have ivar. Ivar is like a red pepper relish and onions. Okay. And I've done it before and people have just gone bonkers. They just loved it.
Starting point is 00:14:01 So cevap, cevap, checkvap chicha. Check that out. You can get that at some choppy sales up in North Burby. Jovo the Butcher on Edmonds. You can find a few places that sell it, but they're awesome. And if you bring those to a barbecue, you'll be the hit of the barbecue. What is the spiciest meal that you prepare, Moj? The spiciest meal? Yeah prepare moj the spiciest meal yeah um i do a jerk chicken that's pretty hot okay right i mean i just put the jerk sauce on the on the chicken and put in
Starting point is 00:14:35 the air fryer and it comes out awesome um the other one is probably this mexican salad that i make so basically it's like a normal salad lettuce tomato onions cucumber bell peppers whatever is probably this Mexican salad that I make. So basically it's like a normal salad, lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumber, bell peppers, whatever. Then I fry up a steak and I use Mexican seasoning on the steak. So then I put it like in a mixie. I'll cut it up, put it in a mixing bowl. And then there's like a little green habanero sauce
Starting point is 00:15:05 there's a little green bottle that you can find in most places and anyways it's like a habanero sauce you dump the habanero sauce on the meat right and really kind of immerse the habanero sauce in the meat and then you put that in the salad that has a real nice kick to it depending on how much habanero sauce you use but that has a real nice kick to it, depending on how much habanero sauce you use. But that has a real nice kick to it. And that's really good, too. You know what's funny? I think every conversation we have, the word habanero comes up. Moj, love you, buddy.
Starting point is 00:15:39 All right, guys. Have a good day. I'm going back to bed. All right. Don't blame me, pal. See you. Enjoy your long weekend. See ya, pal.
Starting point is 00:15:47 You ever immerse the sauce in the meat? Habanero sauce? Whoa. What? That's about immersing sauce. Yeah, I was like immersing sauce. And he was like, what was that word? And I was like, I hate to say it. Meat.
Starting point is 00:16:03 Yeah, the way you said it. I was so disappointed to say it again. Well, meat. I'm looking at the meat that he mentioned and I mean it looks good, I guess. I guess. That's a ringing endorsement.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Are you a spicy foods guy? Yeah, I like spicy food. It kind of looks like dookie a little bit. A little bit, yeah. But the overall experience of it looks good like the the bread and and vegetables that go along with it right and i'm sure it tastes good yeah um are you again are you a spicy foods guy yes yeah i grew up my stepdad made a lot of food with a lot of hot sauce in it so i always had quite a bit of spice right Right. What age did you start appreciating spice? Because kids will be like, this ketchup is too spicy.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Yeah. Everything spicy. Gum can be too spicy for kids. Yeah. Probably like mid-teens, I would say. And like when I was younger, I was just kind of like forced to have it. So I didn't really like have an opinion on it. Right.
Starting point is 00:17:03 And then by... You're sweating. Yeah. This is horrible. My body is already going through a lot of changes am i allergic to this i didn't realize there was an age that you just like spice i guess i haven't reached that age yet well i i think you gotta like get used to it so you have not tried you're not a spice guy so you don't like spices do you start starts to sweat. I'm not a sweater. He's like, I love spice. You're like, that looks like you're struggling. I like some spice.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I like to savor my food. I don't want it to give me pain. I don't know if that sounds weird to anyone else. There's a certain level of spice. There's some ego involved in spice sometimes. There's a line. And I'm never like, I'm going to have as much spice as possible because I want to like feel something it's uh it's more of just a hey this adds to the experience
Starting point is 00:17:52 and that's why i get it we get a text and uh you can really hear in mojo's voice how passionate he is about food and how confident he is about his recipes that's a big man that likes his food uh yeah when halford and i worked with moj at the old station um he would come in with these meals that these prepared meals that um oh god i'm gonna date myself again i've used this reference before josh have you seen the breakfast club i've heard of it that's not good enough uh elon have you seen the breakfast club i have i'm a little more culture than josh i guess so you know the character emilio estevez he plays the wrestler right and he has the big meal and he just like keeps bringing food out of his bag and he's like all right i gotta eat i'm
Starting point is 00:18:47 gonna eat all this because i'm an athlete i gotta eat that was what it was like with mojo's an athlete he brought in this like it was like a grocery store bag plastic bag full of food and then things would just keep coming out of it i'm'm like, you're hosting what's called a radio show in two minutes. Are you just going to eat your way through it? And he did. And it was kind of like, I guess it was him and Taylor together at that point. It was kind of like, I guess Donnie has to speak while you're eating. That's how this is going to go.
Starting point is 00:19:19 But for Moj, their show, I believe it started at noon. Because there was a time when Halford and i had the 9 to 12 slot and you could sense that moge was like well noon is when i eat like that's lunchtime this is lunch very strict ever since i was here yeah and i'm i'm not changing and i know i've got a radio show where i have to talk on the air, but that's lunchtime. So we're going to have to work around this. Fair enough. I love the guy. He is a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Get your what we learns in, get your ask us anythings into the Dunbar Lumber text line. There's a hundred dollar gift card to AJ's pizza on the line. We've already had a bunch of good ones, but we'll give you about five minutes to get even better ones into the Dunbar Lumber text line at 650-650. I've got half an hour left until my vacation, so I'm going to check out, and Josh is going to take it from here
Starting point is 00:20:18 on the Halford & Brough Show on Sportsnet 650. West Coast. West Coast. Yeah. Kelow. West Coast. Yeah. Kelowna, baby. Best place in the world right here. 831. Alfred and Bruff. Coming to you live from the Kintec studio. 831 Halford and Brough
Starting point is 00:20:45 coming to you live from the Kintec studio last segment of the show Josh Elliott Wolf, Jason Brough we got Elon, we got Laddie as well you can text in 650-650 Dunbar Lumber text line, Halford and Brough is brought to you by the Dilawri family of Honda dealers, experience

Trust the expertise of Campbell & Pound. Visit campbell-pound.com today. Okay, Laddie wants to do a What We Learned before we dip into the Dunbar-Lumber text line at 650-650 and read your what we learned and more importantly your ask us any things uh Laddy what have you learned buddy well what I learned more and more European players are starting to play NCAA hockey right you're starting to get them integrated a little bit more used to be just strictly Americans and Canadians and now there's
Starting point is 00:21:40 a lot of them uh well there's a player coming over from Russia that has committed to Penn State, and his name is Alexander Karmanov, 16 years old, born in 2008, 6'11", 250 pounds. They list him as a forward in the tweet, but on Elite Prospects, he's listed as a defenseman, which makes a little more sense, but there's some video footage that has been getting out
Starting point is 00:22:04 ever since this announcement was made. And he's like a man out there against these little children. They're half his size. It's incredible. Someone texted into our show last week maybe and said, do you think there will ever be a seven-footer in the NHL? Does he still have some room to grow? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:22:23 Well, he's 16. So is he like really smart or something like that? Or is Penn State that easy to get into? I wouldn't say Penn State's... I feel like it's the 6'11". Yeah. But he clearly wants to go to school. He's not finished high school yet.
Starting point is 00:22:37 He's going to come to North America now, I would assume. Right. So he's already committed to Penn State, but not for this upcoming season. No, no. He's going to be committed for about three or four years from now. Okay. He's committing way in advance. Six.
Starting point is 00:22:48 I hope we get a seven-footer in the NHL. That's incredible. How do you even operate as that size on the ice? Everyone would be taking runs at him, right? Who would make a dent? Someone would. It'll be like the first time. When I was a kid and I saw Big John Studd get'll be like the first time when i was a kid and i saw big john stud
Starting point is 00:23:06 get body slammed for the first time that was a big moment in my life because uh i believed everything in a uh in wrestling when i saw it and someone said that was the first the announcers like that's the first time big john stud has ever been body slammed i was like mom you gotta come watch this and she's like history in the making no no yeah wouldn't it be like that sort of idea like you'd want to you be the one be the one that like crushed the seven footer just go for the legs i have something tells me this kid has not been crushed to any times in his hockey playing 250 pounds 251 pounds is what he's listed at six foot 11 yikes that's incredible okay i'm excited to
Starting point is 00:23:46 see him play we're gonna be keeping tabs on him give us a mukao on that okay let's print out the submissions here into the dunbar lumber text line uh and the winner with a text that came in at 731 we're all good here elon we can give give Jay in the Ridge the $100 gift card. Ask us anything. If the four of you were potential owners of any of the four major sports in North America, and you could choose a player to build around, which league slash player would it be?
Starting point is 00:24:23 The city has no bearing on your decision fantasy draft style first overall goes to josh elliott wolf laddie's gonna get the second pick elon the third and i because i was the best team in the regular season last year and picking last who's to say um so i'm going i i feel like you have to pick someone who's young obviously because you're trying to build around them yeah uh and the the youngest phenom i think that feels inevitable is victor women yama okay so i'm going with you're building around wimby okay that's probably a good call i feel like it's the right choice uh laddie which i don't know which goalie are you taking well i gotta go with the goalie i gotta stick? Well, I got to go with the goalie.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I got to stick to what I know. Are you really going to build around a goalie? I got to stick to what I know. This is such a bad decision. This is not the 90s. What other position can turn around a franchise than a goaltender? You see the Canucks with Demko and without Demko. Like a forward or a defenseman?
Starting point is 00:25:17 There's a clear difference. This is craziness that you're going second overall and you're going to pick a goalie. I am taking Igor Shesterkin as my pick because he has the ability to turn a terrible team into something amazing. This is the dumbest thing. How? Way to commit to the pick. It's a goalie.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Way to commit to the pick. You've got all these options, man. Look what Dominic Hasek did for the Czech national team. They wouldn't have won a goalie. Connor McDavid is out there. He's still relatively young. He's really good. First pick, 28 years old. He's still relatively young. He's really good. Connor McDavid could get stuck.
Starting point is 00:25:45 28 years old. He's still young for a goalie. I mean, I'm in the win now era because I'm getting on. So like Patrick Mahomes is out there. You can build around a guy like that. Like one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
Starting point is 00:25:57 There might be some slight bias. And you're going, he covers just Turkey. Why not? Okay. I like it. I respect it. Elon, who are you going with? I'm going with the long Okay. I like it. I respect it. Elon, who are you going with?
Starting point is 00:26:06 I'm going with the long play. I'm taking Conor Bedard here. Building my franchise around him. Really? Well, get ready to be stopped by Igor Shosturkin. Yeah, that'll do it. What 15 years of success here. What level do you think Bedard is going to rise to?
Starting point is 00:26:20 Do you think he's going to rise to the level of a Sid or McDavid? That is what I'm hoping with this pick. That's a gamble, man. If he doesn't rise to that, I'm saying just below that, and that's good enough for my franchise for the next 15 years. Okay. So I've got the fourth overall pick. You've got a lot of options.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Man. I would have definitely taken wimby because um basketball the player has so much more impact like the one player has so much more impact you can tell there's a lot of young basketball i don't know them well enough though i don't know what and i don't think i'm taking john morant yeah fair enough um i'm probably just gonna go boring and take connor mcdavid because he's still young and i think he's the greatest player that i've ever seen play just incredible uh and i'm a businessman i want to sell some tickets and i know that he's gonna give me some wins right away um but i did think about otani yeah but he's kind of too old
Starting point is 00:27:23 yeah plus we know we've seen him on the angels on a bad team and he's not you didn't care yeah right he's speaking of one of the what we learns is mike trout is out for the year otani's 30 just turned 38 a month ago washed i do want to talk about mike trout though because is this guy gonna go down as this amazing baseball player that just played for a bad team? Like, is he, and with his health status now, like, I honestly don't know this, so sorry if I sound really stupid. Is he tradable?
Starting point is 00:27:57 His contract isn't really tradable. Like, is he in the same issue that, like, Pujols was when he had that contract and he was. Yeah, but I think teams still look at Mike Trout and they're like, Mike Trout can be the best player in the league. Yeah. But it's the, so it's the injury combined with the contract. Yeah. It's like you would be fine. But you can retain.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Yeah. Who wouldn't take Mike Trout as like a DH though, even if you just want to keep him healthy. You would be fine taking the contract on if you knew that he was just going to be Mike Trout as like a DH though even if you just want to keep him healthy you would be fine taking the contract on if you knew that he was just going to be Mike Trout but when you combine that with the fact that I think he's played 41 games in the second half of seasons in the last four years combined it's a little concerning when you're like well we can't even play this guy in the playoffs because he's just not going to be healthy but so what's his legacy going to be do you think if you could predict do you think he's going to get to be healthy. So what's his legacy going to be, do you think? If you could predict, do you think he's going to get out of that team?
Starting point is 00:28:51 Do you think he's going to get out of the Angels organization? Do you think he's going to find a way? Do you think he wants to? It doesn't seem like he wants to. I don't think he wants to. He loves playing for the Angels, but I will say— Do the Angels have a chance of being relevant in the next few years? They are so bad. They are so bad.
Starting point is 00:29:02 Break down their prospect system for me, 1-20. I'm not going to, but I appreciate the the offer i don't think it's fantastic i think his legacy though is it's it's almost like eric lindros type where it's like he was in the conversation of potentially being and maybe even two months some team success though lindros yeah yeah but what i what i mean with Trout is like, on an individual level, there was talks about him potentially being the greatest of all time.
Starting point is 00:29:29 And then he got super injured. And also, yeah, he hasn't had any team success and that plays a part in it. But it's definitely going to be a legacy of what if this guy played for a different team and was healthy. Bort with an Ask Us Anything. Could any of you guys swim one length of an Olympic pool?
Starting point is 00:29:49 And my answer to that is eventually. Yeah. Yes, but not quickly. Ask Us Anything. How many times a week, this is from Mike the urologist from Brockville, how many times a week do you wash your hair? And when you do, do you rinse and repeat like the instructions say i never rinse and repeat no that's a live big shampoo try to tell you so i went back to the buzz cut as you can see if
Starting point is 00:30:13 you're watching on the stream did you have different hair before yeah i had i actually grew my hair out fairly long for me and then i was like i hate this like i have to do my hair every day and then i just like did the Halford and wore a hat. And I wore a hat every show for like a year. I also just never found the right style, never found the consistency. So I was like, I'm going back to the buzz cut. It's so easy.
Starting point is 00:30:37 So like, I don't have to like wash my golden locks, you know? So I mostly shower. If I'm going to wash my my hair it's after i work out after i play sports i uh once a month i uh i use conditioner every time i wash my hair i only use shampoo like once a week and that's it feels like it's been a good balance for my hair because i've got longer hair yeah longish hair it's not how do you feel like can you really style do you do do does it look better than this normally yeah a little bit a little bit the mornings have played a part it's also very long i appreciate that by the way uh justin and he's fan ask us anything as a this is for you josh as a minnesota vikings fan and as someone born
Starting point is 00:31:20 after the blue jays won their two world series does josh elliott wolf deserve a chair on the sad club executive council uh well let me ask you a few questions yeah what is the biggest team win that you've ever experienced in your life so a team that you love that's won something i mean with me it's like when we got out of the first round right let me i'll preface this by saying like i have an order i guess of my favorite teams where like some mean more to me than others right okay so when i talk about like the canucks or the vikings those two teams for me it's like that would be a monumental life experience for me if they want those are your big two those are my big two the Blue Jays would be a close third and then the Denver Nuggets who have one would be like a clear fourth when did you when
Starting point is 00:32:17 did you start liking the Nuggets in the bubble oh so that's that's a very young that's a bad relationship and so I wasn't yeah i wasn't able to fully was that a lot of jamal yeah yeah okay yeah and i was like oh yokich seems fun too like this this can be a team my qualifications i'm not even gonna count that i'll be honest with you yeah my yeah i agree that's that's like so far down the depth chart my my qualifications for teams that i pick are generally except for the blue jays are generally like when i went to be an nfl fan and i was picking teams i was like randy moss seems cool right he's on the patriots though but i like the vikings and they have to be a team that hasn't won before because i want to be
Starting point is 00:32:56 a team that see you're a sucker like me yeah who gets drawn into these teams that are like, man, they have such a painful history, but when they finally get it, like I'm drawn to the underdogs. I am not drawn to the teams that are super successful. Like I- Thank you, Laddie. Like even when I'm just kind of
Starting point is 00:33:20 picking up a bandwagon team for the playoffs or whatever, I'll pick a team where it's a good story for the fan base right but it always ends badly yeah it's dumb it's a bad decision it's a bad decision i mean i've kind of built a career around like hey this guy cheers for teams that always lose and sometimes get to very promising places, but ultimately it's going to end in heartbreak. I mean, you have a Seahawks win, though. You know what, though?
Starting point is 00:33:50 I didn't even get to watch it. Do you know that story? Why? Because I was flying into Sochi to work the Olympics, and it was 3 in the morning. I hadn't slept for 24 hours just because of all the flying that I had to do. And I don't sleep on flights.
Starting point is 00:34:08 I had to fly, first of all, into New York. And then I flew to Russia. And when I flew into New York, I was like, hey, there's the stadium where the Super Bowl is going to be. And I'm not going to be able to watch it. Fun. Awesome. So I got into Russia. It was like three in the morning or something like that. And I'm walking around.
Starting point is 00:34:25 I'd never been to Russia. It was like three in the morning or something like that. And I'm walking around. I'd never been to Russia. It was a little intimidating. And I'm walking around the Olympic Village trying to find a place that had the Super Bowl on. And I'm like, it's got to be somewhere. Like, they've got a big media center, right? So I went to the media center. I'm like walking, you know, kilometers here. And I got to the media center and it's closed.
Starting point is 00:34:43 I'm like, yeah, that's since four in the morning that's probably right but like there's dogs barking at me like big dogs and i'm like i hope these dogs have owners like packs of dogs just going around russia like hunting me down in the middle of the night or something like that and i'm like i cannot like are you serious like the one time they get to the super bowl and and might win thing. I can't watch it. So I ended up watching kind of parts of it on this pirated stream that I somehow found on my laptop, which probably downloaded a ton of viruses onto my laptop. I mean, and that's how I got to watch it.
Starting point is 00:35:20 So I've always said like my teams will occasionally win but i will not be able to watch it i thought you said you're gonna say you're watching through like the storefront window or something like a like a store had it on looking into looking through the window athletes windows no no one had it on i was shocked i was like i was like walking into various places i can't remember what they were i was like does anyone have like the super bowl on and they're like american get out like it was it was actually really quite sad but and then then it sounded like such a good time because they really beat the hell out of the broncos but like i have no picture in my mind of that game no core memories i didn't go back and re-watch it i don't know what
Starting point is 00:36:01 it looked like like you haven't watched it since no i didn't i never went back and watched it and then the very next year i was at a super bowl party prime seating location for russ's interception damn yeah it's sad isn't it cursed or something yeah it's sad right so am i am i part of this club or i'd like to bring you along as maybe a potential junior member yeah understudy you have a lot to learn you have to take flights to russia when your team plays in a championship a lot of tears to be shed yeah next couple years uh rob and suri ask us anything friday with the men's decathlon on right now. Which local sports media personality would do the best at the 10 events collectively in the decathlon? Well, I can
Starting point is 00:36:50 think of a lot who wouldn't do well. Do you want the events again? Yeah. No cycling, by the way. No cycling, no swimming. 100 meter, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meter, 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole pole vault javelin throw and the 1500 meter
Starting point is 00:37:09 so a lot of throwing a lot of jumping and a lot of running okay scotty reintoul is an unbelievable athlete yeah and i think he'd probably be the best pick for this it's kind of the default pick for anything athletic most of the time it might be you are you a good athlete uh i i feel like i'm passable who's the best best athlete at uh at 650 it might be elon elon ben elon depends what sport we're talking well we're talking decathlon here you're a big guy i think think Elon would be a strong guy. For sure. Elon would beat you.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Yeah, because I think he's faster than me. I think he can jump bigger, faster, stronger. Right. Basically, he would just beat me in every event. Woodrow, the eligible bachelor, ask us anything with Josh's upcoming nuptials. He would probably like to know what are the staples and non-negotiables
Starting point is 00:38:05 of a great bachelor party? I actually just asked Josh this, have you had your bachelor party? And I'm sorry if we're sharing this on air for the first time. Have you talked about it already? Okay. What did you do for your bachelor party? So my fiance and I have been together for nine years. Okay. So we have a lot of overlapping friends. By the way, before we get into this, did she ask you when you were going to propose? Like, did that become, it became a thing, but I, I had always had some tension in the relationship. It was never like a, an ultimatum.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Right. But it was a, was it like every trip you went on, you're like, maybe this will be it. And you'd be like, it won't be. I had qualifications. I was like, okay, I'm not going to propose until I'm like working full time. Right. At this point.
Starting point is 00:38:52 You're so responsible. I know, I know. Not much of a romantic. No. Yeah, okay. I'm pretty spontaneous, either. Anyway. Yeah, that was how he proposed.
Starting point is 00:39:00 He was like, I've got this amount in the bank. The checklist has been completed. Will you marry me? Good to go. All right, go on with your bachelor party story. So because we have a lot of overlapping friends, we took a trip to Arizona as a group and did stuff down there, went out.
Starting point is 00:39:19 We were in Scottsdale. So in terms of what needs to be- So you did a joint- We did a joint bachelor trip. Okay. How much separation was there? Everyone was together? No, so we were down there for three nights,
Starting point is 00:39:33 and I think there was both a day and a night that we were separate. All right, okay. So for... These young people. They're in their bachelor party and bachelorette parties together. I don't think it's a common
Starting point is 00:39:45 thing uh maybe it is but anyway in terms of what you need to do on a bachelor party what i was like these are the things we have to check off for me i was like i need to go to at least one sporting event right so we went to a diamondbacks dodgers game i've been to a diamondbacks game on a bachelor party before that's the worst stadium i've ever been to it is it's off we left after three innings we were like let's go somewhere else this sucks uh the b delay game this year yeah i remember that you remember that there was a two hour oh the b delay i got to call the beekeeper right there was a two hour b delay so you went to that i went to that game and you stayed no right well we stayed for like okay we were like here we go that stadium has nothing though
Starting point is 00:40:29 there's no bar area there's no pool in the outfield yeah but like that's for like it's for like specific ticket holders right like it's not like everyone can you know bring your trunks and don't forget a towel because we won't give a towel. But there's no, unless I totally missed it, there was no area where you could go hang out and just drink and kind of watch a game. Because I was like, I think they were playing the Cubs. And I'm like, I don't care about this game at all. There was, but it was reserved for an event.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Right. So we weren't allowed in. Okay. But yeah, other than that there was only like one area and that's that's the thing like most stadiums especially baseball stadiums have this where you can just like stand for a bit and have a drink you're kind of close but you're maybe not paying full attention i think that was the most disappointed i've ever been in going to a baseball stadium was the arizona one so that was my bachelor party they're trying to get rid of
Starting point is 00:41:23 that stadium yeah yeah but you probably but you had a night in old scottsdale yeah that was fun that was a good time isn't it yeah so we actually was after the game we met up with my fiance and other friends because we had split up that night but for me the the only thing is like hey you got to go out a few times and then also split up physically yes yeah he didn't split up it was a it was an eventful trip the b delay just really cost you yeah um and a sporting event for me first uh east van tommy ask us anything did any of you watch the surfing competition last monday i was blown away by the entertainment value of this sport and involves an intense cat and mouse strategy contending for the next big wave.
Starting point is 00:42:09 Big wipeouts and jet ski racing as the surfers get rescued from the froth and carried back to the waves. Can't wait for the finals this weekend. East Van Tommy, I have not watched any of the surfing, but now I might. I did see the photograph of the surfer. Yeah, that was awesome. That was a cool picture. Super neat. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:30 He was basically, it looked like he was standing in the air with his surfboard behind him. It was cool. Now, we're starting to run out of time here, and I wanted to say a few things. Josh, I've really appreciated working with you. Laddie, as always. Elon, today was just super. I will never forget it. And Basketball Ben, if you're listening, it was great working with you. Unfortunately, we were not able to get to the Olympic boxing discussion.
Starting point is 00:42:56 I really wanted to get to it. Hold on. Let's get to the nitty gritty of this. I had some hot takes on it. So, Josh, are you working next week? No, I'm off. Oh, okay. Laddie will have to share his commentary.
Starting point is 00:43:06 I'll be here with A-Dog. Laddie and A-Dog are going to share their commentary next week on the Olympic boxing because Laddie's got a surprisingly hot take about the boxing and who should be competing, men, women. I mean, it was really divisive. It was quite divisive. Yeah. And unfortunately we just did not have time to get to it.
Starting point is 00:43:30 Just so busy today. So have a great long weekend, everyone. Oh yeah. No show on Monday. No show on Monday. I appreciate everyone texting in, including the person who is like,
Starting point is 00:43:39 Hey, you're together for nine years. Couples break up really quick after that. That's awesome. Fun text. Thank you. I appreciate everyone listening. I appreciate elon thank you to laddie thank you to jason brough this week has been great not curmudgeoning at all i've been josh elliott wolf this has been alfred and brough on sportsnet 650.
