Adog liked this one. I was previewing a couple and Adog was like, I like it a lot. It's comical.
It's good.
He said comical. I don't know why.
I think it's the rhythm in the background. It makes you laugh. Yeah, it's comical. It's good. Yeah, he said comical, I don't know why. I think it's the rhythm in the background.
It makes you laugh?
Yeah, it's funny.
It's funny.
Like it muses you, it makes you laugh.
Big hat, it's funny.
You are listening to the Halferd and Bref Show

Our next guest is the purveyor and owner of the Betts Pizza Place in the world, Vancouver
Chapter and Florida Chapter, and I believe he joins us from Winter Gardens now. It is purveyor and owner of the best pizza place in the world, Vancouver chapter and
Florida chapter and I believe he joins us from Winter Gardens now. It is AJ from
AJ's Pizza on Broadway. What up AJ? What is going on everybody? Everybody
staying warm or cold? So I pretended like I didn't know where you were. I know you
sent me a poolside shot from Florida yesterday. What a jerk. What a jerk. Seriously. I know. I know. That's
mean. That's what AJ stands for. It stands for a jerk. It was right. How is Florida?
It is beautiful. I'm sorry to say that. Yeah. It's 30 degrees and sunny. And how's the new
shop? I am working. You got to remember I am working. How's the new shop doing? Kind of.
The shop is great. The shop is crazy.
I'll be heading there probably later this afternoon.
Yeah, it's been great.
It's been fun.
Yeah, it's been awesome.
For those of you that don't have the luxury
of going to Winter Garden, Florida,
you can always go to AJ's this weekend
because it's a pretty big weekend in the world of sports
and beer and pizza and all that good stuff.
Saturday, Kinect's game at four o'clock.
What's going on for Super Bowl Sunday, AJ?
All right, so here we go.
So, Halford, you text me.
So I did have dinner, a nice steak dinner actually,
last night with our good friend Jimmy Aces.
All right.
And so Jimmy, because he's obviously a big fan of my wife,
he would not give me an actual pick on a Super Bowl
because he knows how much my wife dislikes the Chiefs.
But he does have an exotic for everybody.
Okay, let's go.
And if he said, if you like the Eagles,
Dallas Goddard is going to win the MVP,
have a hundred yards receiving and a touchdown.
Dallas Goddard MVP. I love Jimmy. I love Jimmy.
He's only, he's only plus 12,000. If you,
if you win, you can take your friends and family down to Disney world.
You go to agent.
Beautiful. Okay. So you've heard it here first. Jimmy Aces says Dallas Goddard,
a hundred yards receiving touchdown and MVP on Sunday. A reminder,
get your orders in now for AJ's pizza. If you want pizza on Superbowl Sunday,
AJ enjoy the rest of your time in Florida. Travel safe back.
We'll do this again next Friday.
Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. Have a great weekend. Everybody enjoy.
It's going to be good Saturday, great Sunday.
Yep, sounds good, thanks buddy, appreciate it.
That's AJ from AJ's Pizza on East Broadway.
Go visit him this weekend, 325 East Broadway,
or order their pizza online at ajs.pizza.
So maybe we should talk about Quinn Hughes.
Is this guy gonna go to the Four Nations?
It feels like no.
I'm gonna lean towards, I guess say no,
which is a good thing.
Feels like no.
Yeah, he's.
It's not good for the tournament.
It's not good for Quinn Hughes.
He's gonna be disappointed.
America's fine, okay?
America's fine.
They've got enough good players.
I heard someone yesterday.
America's not fine, but.
America the hockey team.
America brackets hockey, it's fine.
I understand the rich dynamic tapestry
at play here, that Quinn Hughes is a proud USA hockey guy
and this tournament means a lot to him.
And I think I maybe overlooked the fact
that he also gets to play with his brother on this team.
Right, Jack is on the team, Luke is not.
So there's a lot going into it.
I also understand the other part of the fabric here,
which is the Canucks are very much in,
let's appease Quinn mode.
Let's make sure that, you know, we do right by him
because we want him to stay here forever.
And we don't want any rifts.
We've already had enough rifts.
No more rifts.
We are riftless, I repeat, riftless.
So all that said though, it doesn't make any sense
for him to play in this tournament. He's ailing, his body is banged up, he's hurt. His hand is hurt, he's got some
other injury going on, we don't know where, it's on his body.
I like how all the Canucks management and coaches are like, we trust Quinn to make the
right decision. What's the right decision? Not going.
Yeah, I mean, come on.
Let me just read between the lines there.
Yeah.
I don't think he's going to play.
And I will be very curious to see, because the
tournament starts in five days time.
So I'll be very curious to see how many players do
the old pulling of the chute right before the
tournament goes.
Did you listen to Patrick Alveen on the station
yesterday?
Briefly, yeah.
I know Sat and Bic were talking about it in the of the shoot right before the tournament goes. Did you listen to Patrick Alveen on the station yesterday? Briefly, yeah.
I know Sat and Bic were talking about it in
the aftermath of last night's game because
even though the Canucks won 2-1 in San Jose
and it was a big win, the focus was a lot on
Elias Pedersen.
And then by nature of that, there was some
focus on what Patrick Alveen had to say
specifically when Sat asked him about
Pedersen's health.
Sat asked a pretty straightforward question, is him about Pedersen's health. Sat asked a pretty
straightforward question, you know, is Elias Pedersen healthy? And the way that Patrick
Alveen answered it was both brief and not all that clear. There was some ambiguity there.
We'll play it now. It's very quick audio, so pay attention. Patrick Alveen on Canuck Central
yesterday was Sat and Dan talking about the health of Elias Patterson.
He was, he missed a couple of games with an upper body injury around Christmas, I believe, but
otherwise he's played every game. Yeah. That was the answer. I love how people were like, wow, I mean, I wish he would have just said one way or the other,
like, yeah, he's healthy. Instead, he said he's played every other game.
Right.
So people are like, well, that's not, that's not
an answer whether or not he's healthy.
What does that mean, Patrick?
I ain't saying nothing.
You can play, you can play with tendonitis, you know,
and it just gets back to this never ending, you know,
people that are just so convinced with their, like,
he's hurt, he's hurt, he's hurt.
you know, people that are just so convinced with their, like he's hurt, he's hurt, he's hurt.
It does not explain why he's so scared.
Knee tendonitis does not explain why you're
scared to shoot the puck.
No.
Although maybe, but no.
Uh, and we just finished talking about Quinn Hughes.
Like they're not letting Quinn, they're not
putting Quinn Hughes out injured and be like, go
figure it out, go play through it.
Different types of injuries, I guess though.
But, but if it comes down, I think it's, it can
be, this can be a very black and white
conversation is if you're hurt and you're out
there and your play is ineffective, you've got to
have the mindset of, okay, we can't keep doing it this way.
You need to come back and be 100% healthy
so that whatever it is that's blocking you
will allow you to do the things that you do.
And if it's not that, then don't have no mention of health.
You know what I mean?
Like that's the black and white part of this.
At this stage of the game,
it's either you're healthy and you're playing
or you're not healthy and you're not playing.
Yeah. To me, that's what it is. And I don't like this stage of the game, it's either you're healthy and you're playing or you're not healthy and you're not playing. Yeah.
To me, that's what it is.
And I don't like this notion of, well, if you're playing
hurt, you gotta find a way.
Then you start getting into the gray area where it's like,
well, the team shouldn't have him out there
or he's forcing himself to be out there.
What do I tell the doctor?
Don't the suck a lemon.
That's right.
Let's play the other Patrick Alveen clip
because this was before he answered the question about the health and essentially it was, what's going on with this guy?
Well, good question.
I think part of it is the preparedness, how you come in every day and want to improve
or work on your game.
The league is changing. You can't just be, you know,
doing the things you've done in the past. You've got to always get better. I think
that's how the best players are continuing to be the best players in the
league. And I think that's where Elias has realized here that he's going to work
on his game. And we all know what talent he has and what he's capable of and
he's just gonna continue to work on his game. Okay I'm going around the room now. I went out on a
limb. I went out on a limb and I said I think he's got the yips. Here's Halford. Here's Halford.
I engaged. I know you engaged. You can disagree though. You can disagree. What do you think is up with the guy?
I don't know. I don't know. Here's the thing. We have spent so much of the show and of the
show's energy and of the three hours that we get on a daily basis talking about it ourselves. And
then when we get a guest on basis, talking about it ourselves,
and then when we get a guest on,
we ask them if they have any theories.
You asked Thomas Drantz yesterday
if he had any thoughts or theories on it.
Sat went out of his way to ask Patrick Levine
multiple questions, if he had any answers
or any sort of resolution to the problem.
It feels at times like a futile endeavor.
It does.
It feels like we are at times talking about nothing.
And that is frustrating.
I did a lot of prep this morning for like,
this is, I honestly, I've been thinking about it.
I've said it before.
I've said it before that.
I think he's got the yips.
I think I said it in the playoffs last year,
like when he was scared to shoot.
I don't discount the theory in the slightest.
He's scared to shoot because he knows he's
going to miss the net.
And when he does shoot, he misses the net.
And on the rare occasion, he actually scores a
goal for whatever reason, it doesn't, he can't,
he doesn't build on it.
And that I don't, it's gotta be psychological
because he can score.
He scored some nice goals this year.
He scored a few really nice power play goals
that looked like vintage EP 40.
But for whatever reason, he can't, that doesn't give him the confidence afterwards which you
think it would it's like all right he's going now but he does but I got plenty
of time for you know I mean that's why we talked about it at length this morning
that's why we made a video out of it I know I agree with Jason it's
psychological it's gotta be I mean maybe maybe he's slightly banged up and
there's some nagging thing that affects his stride or I don't know, but it's
like if that's what it is, that's maybe like a quarter of it and the other three quarters
is confidence.
It's kind of where I'm at.
So if you go back and you look at things that are based in like historical fact, let's just
call it that, and you look at the large amount of professional athletes that have gone through
this, and it's a hypothetical sure,
but it does exist in some form of reality
because I could count the thousands of athletes
and the very prominent professional ones
that we've talked about.
Knoblock, Ankeel, Nick Anderson, Bernard Langer,
take your pick.
Sometimes it doesn't end well.
Sometimes they don't figure it out.
Sometimes they don't solve it.
Exacerbating this particular situation with
Pedersen is that I will remind everyone in case
you don't already know, he is right at the start
of a massive financial obligation from the team.
And that's why we can't stop talking about it.
Like I had people, you know, and I know people
are tired of it.
I get it.
But it's like, people are like, move on.
I'm like, you can't.
I felt horrible for sat in Bic last night.
You can't.
On the post game show.
Cause they, they wanted to talk about the game.
They should just lean into it.
They should just lean into it.
Give the people what they want.
I mean, they want to talk about this.
It's who cares if the Canucks beat San
Jose last night.
Good point taken.
No, but like, like big picture, big picture,
big picture.
If this guy doesn't figure it out, it's like, of a sudden if you're the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick McHolmes
was like, forgot how to throw the ball, right? You're like, well, could you talk about the run
blocking or something? I was like, no, because our franchise quarterback has forgotten how to
throw the ball. I think we're going to focus on this because unless this does, like, like great, good Dakota.
Joshua's looked much better in the last few games and Rick
Tuckett shout him out.
I'm happy for Dakota Joshua, Thatcher Demko.
I mean, this is, this is, this is big for the team.
Um, he's starting to round into form as well.
I think Nils Holglund has been playing better.
I liked the new guys, even though he'd made a mistake last night.
I like what I like what Drew O'Connor brings.
You know, like these are all things that
you can talk about, but it doesn't matter
if the number one center doesn't figure
it out right now.
I've simplified it like this before, but if,
if you, the listener or the fan truly believes
this core is capable of winning a Stanley Cup,
then Elias Pedersen has to be as good as Quinn Hughes.
It's like, it's that simple.
He has to be your best forward all the time.
And not just sometimes, like consistently,
every single night, he has to be dominant
on a level that Quinn Hughes dominates at his position.
And if Petey can't do that, this core won't win a cup.
Like it's literally that simple.
Pedersen has to be their best forward every single
game for hopefully the rest of his contract.
So remember when JT Miller had that game
against the Kings?
It was a 5-1 loss to the Kings and he was dreadful.
Yep.
And.
Like, like to blame on three or four of the goals.
Yeah.
And I was like, that is untenable.
Like that, that was the game for me where I was
like something like that, that can't happen anymore.
Yep.
And even though he'd have a good game mixed in once
in a while, I watched that.
I was like, that's a type of thing.
Like it's glaring.
Yeah.
It's glaring.
It's looking you right in the face and it is yelling
at you with the play because you just don't see it
at the NHL level very much.
I know exactly the game you're talking about.
It was a dark night on a lot of fronts.
The play where he got beaten along the wall and
then just like was kind of like turned away from
the point shot and just looked generally
disinterested, flinging pucks
away, diving in at the wrong time.
I'm like this, you cannot have a guy out
there playing like that.
I felt the same way about Peterson on the power
play, like you cannot have a guy out there on your
first unit power play.
And guess who agreed?
Rick Tauke, because Pugh suitor was on PP1 in the second period, I think it was.
Like there was a couple of power plays in the first.
Yeah.
And then Pugh Souter went out there as PP1.
Yeah.
The one in that instance, you know, Shorty did
point out on the broadcast that Pedersen had just
finished a shift, but I know exactly what you're
talking about is that the power play looked
so inept with 40 on it that there needed to be a
change, right?
By the way, the timeframe between the rock
bottom for JT Miller, the Los Angeles game, which
was a Thursday night game, January 16th, he went
on to play six more games for the Vancouver
Canucks before the trade happened, right?
And that was that week actually, now that I look
back on it, that was a real, real tough week for
the Canucks.
I think that might've been about as low as it got
this year.
Cause you'll remember they, they lost four straight.
They had that really tough Eastern road trips.
So they, they lost in Montreal, they lost in
Washington, they lost in Carolina.
Then they had the game against the Leafs.
And then they came back and got smoked by Winnipeg.
It got smoked by LA.
Yeah.
And I remember everyone thinking like the,
this is a house of cards that game against the
Leafs was just an aberration.
This team is doomed and things have gotten
better since then.
A lot has happened since then, but you do kind
of look for those singular low marks
where you wonder when enough is enough. Because that's kind of been one of the subtexts of the
team this year is like they've reached breaking points and like no more of this. I mean, think
about it, they reached it with Archer Silov. It's like they reached a point where they couldn't
play him anymore. You know, they reached it with the JT Miller, Elias Pedersen r point where they couldn't play them anymore. They reached it with the J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson rift, where they were like,
we can't keep letting this happen anymore.
I mean, they've done these things
where they've reached the point of no return
where things have to change.
Now the unfortunate thing is that
I think a lot of people understood that
trading Miller and clearing up that rift with Pettersson
was sort of the last of
the last chances. If it doesn't go right from here, everyone's left to throw their hands up in the air
and be like, I don't know what else there is to fix. I don't know what else there is to solve. I
don't know what other problems we can unlock because we've tried it all. How many teams out
there would be willing to look at the problem and say, you know, let's say there's a team
out there that's like, yeah, I think it's all
mental with this guy.
I'm still willing to take a chance because I think
we can get a really elite player and build them
back up.
Like the thing with the yips is it does come and go.
And the more I think about it, the more I think
about it, the more I think, you know, rock bottom
in Carolina, that
was, that was a confidence issue too.
Like you don't need to like, don't get too walled
in, I know I've said it a lot, but don't get too
walled in on the yips.
Like I think he is like terrified of failure right
now.
He's terrified of making mistakes.
So he will defer to others.
And I think that's what's happened before.
And every once in a while, you'll notice that if
he makes a good play, his confidence ticks up a
little bit in the game because he's like, oh,
maybe I've found it again.
Maybe I've found it again.
You know?
And he'll play with a little more energy.
He'll play.
And that to me suggests all confidence.
So the original question, the original question
was what teams would be interested?
I think that as a-
Buffalo, Columbus, Ottawa.
I think as a by-law candidate, a lot of teams still would because it'd be worth the gamble.
If Buffalo acquired him and he didn't get it back, I think they'd have to fold the franchise.
I think that honestly, I thought it would be too risky for Buffalo to do.
I think that there's enough teams, and also you gotta consider those teams that are like,
we'd never get a player like this to come here in free agency.
Because remember, the dangling carrot for a lot of teams is that you get them in the
door, you get them under a contract, which granted the contract doesn't look great right
now, but there is some certainty both in terms of term and finances where he can't control where he
goes for another few months I wanted to be Ottawa for Josh Norris you've
mentioned this a few times I don't know if Travis Green is clamoring for a
reunion I'm just gonna throw that out there I'm not sure
keen on that Columbus for fantilly know. Columbus for Fantilly. That's another one. Columbus is one that makes sense just because.
I know the pipe dream trades.
Can I just, like, it's amazing to me
how many people are texting in, can we get Bedard of Chicago
for PN?
I know.
And people yell at me because it's like, you said it.
I'm like, I was joking about that first time.
That was a joke.
Chicago would never do that dream.
Chicago would have to fold the franchise
if they made that move.
They would never do that dream.
They are not giving up on Bedard.
Unless he asks out.
Unless Bedard is like, yeah.
And even then they say, no.
Yeah, you're staying in here.
You are staying here.
He should withhold his services.
There was one Ask Us Anything that came in, and I have time for this one.
My internet's frozen here, but it was, what is the earliest that the
Canucks could possibly think that Bedard could ask out?
And I think it's like, well, you can ask out anytime, but I think it's like year five is
usually the one where you start going like, and it's very dependent on the contract
that he signs out of his ELC.
You basically have to put in-
If he bridges, then you're like, hmm.
You basically have to put in a good four or five years
with the team that drafted you
before you can do the like the kachak,
where you tell them a year out, right?
I'm not signing.
I bet he bridges, I bet he asks.
Dubois did it too, right?
He told them like two years in advance.
He's like, you know when my contract expires,
I will not be signing here.
Yeah.
And he gave them lots of, and then you do put it on the GM
because he's like, well, maybe we need to make this move now.
Like, don't do this song and dance for you.
You can manipulate.
The cooks just have to tamper
and try and get Badaar to celebrate.
You can manipulate the situation, right?
If you make it public, you're like,
I'm not re-signing here when my contract's up.
There are general managers who would be like,
well, I'm not gonna sit there with this headache
for two years, like trying to convince you
if you say it publicly or whatever.
So you can manipulate it, but you're right,
it's usually about four or five years
that you have to put in your service
before you get to go elsewhere.
Okay, we gotta go to break.
When we come back, we're gonna go down to New Orleans.
Bob the Moj Marjanovic is gonna join us
for a Super Bowl preview.
I mentioned earlier in the show, Moj is right there
with Dallas Goddard as two of the favorites
for Super Bowl MVP right now.
He is killing it down in New Orleans.
We'll also talk to him about everything that happened
last night because the NFL handed out its awards
and the, oh, the Pro Football Hall of Fame also announced everyone as well.
So we'll do that. Go on a break. Come back. Moj is going to join us from New Orleans.

He is the odds-on favorite to win Super Bowl MVP after his performance this week.
Bob the Moge Marjanovic, live from Louisiana here on the Halford & Brough show on Sportsnet 650.
What up, Moj? Well, I'll tell you, it's been a
busy morning. That's where I got here about an hour ago
and just wrapped up with Nate Burleson from CBS.
Real good Canadian connection there. He was telling us how he grew up.
He wanted to be a Calgary stampeter because his dad, Al,
played for the Stamps. Nate's actually Canadian. He's born in Canada.
And we just wrapped up with him. It was a great interview, he made time for us.
And now we continue to wrap up this show here on
Friday and go out there and see what we come up with.
What's been your favorite interview of the week?
Uh, the Nate Burlson one right now is really good.
There was, we had a lot of fun with Nate.
Talked about the old days with the Seahawks.
Uh, we talked about, you know, we talked about CBS doing a lot of the things
that he's done in broadcasting. But yeah, I mean, there's been some fun ones. I mean,
Mad Dog Russo was really good. I love Mad Dog. I mean, one of the legends in our
broadcasting industry. And then we had Jerome Bettis. He was always entertaining. So there's
always like, you know, I don't know if they can see a favorite, but there's certainly highlights.
I know, okay, so I'm sorry.
I was distracted because I'm on Moj's Twitter feed.
So I'm going-
Was it the Gator or the Snake?
No, no, no, it's Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman,
Joe Montana, Carissa Thompson.
I know you're good at this Moj,
but this is like an all-star lineup of guests
that you've been able to speak to throughout the week.
How does it work when you're down there?
Are you literally just like grinding and hustling
and just like, okay, you're really, go find another one.
Go find another one, go find another one.
Well, so we just finished Burleson, right?
I'm walking out here and I see Gruden
and I'm walking back now with three cigars in my hat because
Gruden is a cigar guy we've chatted before we've done an interview before
and now I'm gonna see if I can find them if I do I'm gonna see if I can bribe them
to the show but you know you so what happens you come here on Monday like
there's obviously emails that go out you set up some interviews before you get
here Monday and Tuesday the handlers are usually floating around, you see what they got, you set up
interviews but to be honest a lot of it's hustling too, right? I mean you just walk
around and see who you got. I mean Nate Burlison was the hustle. I talked to this guy two days
ago, he said, yeah Nate's going to be on Friday and he showed up today and he was actually
going to, he was leaving and he said he'll come back and do us in the afternoon.
I said, well, we'll catch in a flight.
We're out of here tonight.
And he was, he was awesome.
He came back and say, Hey, I'll make time for you guys and sat down with us.
It was, uh, it worked out really well.
Of course last night, uh, taking away briefly from Sunday's big game, uh, NFL awards came
out, the hall of fame inductees came out as well.
I want to focus on the hall of fame inductees came out as well. I want to focus on the hall of fame.
So four get in Jared Allen, Sterling Sharp, Eric Allen and Antonio Gates.
It almost felt like the and this is often the case with Hall of Fame
Inductions, the guys that didn't get in almost as much, you know, publicity
or notoriety as ones that did get in.
What were some of the big takeaways from the Pro football
Hall of Fame announcements yesterday?
Probably Eli Manning. I mean, that the one that you know it's probably on the
cusp. A lot of people thought he might have got in. I mean two Super Bowls, one
of the all-time greats of the game and he was kind of, I don't want to say snubbed, but
the fact that he didn't get in. But more people were talking about the MVP vote.
That was the big thing. People were just, there's so much buzz
about how Lamar Jackson was snubbed by the
voters and you know, Josh Allen should have won.
And that's the one that's getting a lot of
traction here, especially this morning, just
talking to people at Radio Row.
Were the voting results released?
Did they, did they do that?
Not in terms of who voted for who, but they did release, like, you know, there was somebody
that had Lamar Jackson fourth, right? I mean, I don't know how that happened.
That's crazy. Yeah.
Yeah. They released the votes, but they didn't release how people voted. So if that makes sense,
I hope it does.
Who finished third? Was it Saquon?
I don't know. Honestly, I didn't look at it. Because I thought it does. Who finished third? Was it Saquon?
I don't know.
I honestly didn't, I didn't look at it. Cause I thought it would.
Yeah.
I was just focused so much on the whole, you know,
stuff on Twitter that I kept reading, you know, about Lamar Jackson not winning
and people posted stats and this and that.
And that was, like I said, that's the one that's shocked a lot of people.
Well, I just wonder if Josh Allen had won two MVPs already, if it would be Lamar Jackson
getting the nod this year.
Here's the thing too, that a lot of people are, the one argument that I saw for Josh
Allen, he didn't have the supporting cast that Lamar Jackson did.
That's one thing that the Josh Allen voters are pinning their hopes on, or not hopes, but pinning their
argument on, I guess.
Allen finished first, Lamar Jackson finished second, Barclay finished third, Joe Burrow
fourth, Jared Goff fifth.
So there you have it.
And they did announce, they did release the voters, and I'm just looking to try and see
who which was the one that had Lamar Jackson.
Jim Miller had Lamar Jackson fourth.
That was the illusion.
Jim Miller?
Yeah, Jim Miller.
Wow.
From SiriusXM, former Patriot quarterback,
back up to Brady.
Yeah, so if you can track him down,
you can track him down before you go.
There's a question you can ask him when you get to him.
We're speaking to Bob the Moge Marjanovic
here on the Haliford and Bref Show on Sportsnet 650.
We've talked about this a couple times this week
that it's been a very unique
Superbowl week because it feels like everyone's talked about everything else
aside from the game on Sunday. I know now we're closer to it.
And we're 48 hours out.
What is the vibe that you've gotten having spoken with so many people about
what direction they think the game is going to go on Sunday?
Do you know it's interesting? Um, just about everyone.
It's like a common theme.
It's interesting, just about everyone. It's like a common theme.
If you're to put 22 boxes now,
and tick where the Eagles have an advantage,
I mean, I've heard numbers,
I think somebody said it's as high as 17 or 18, right?
The Eagles have a definitive advantage in personnel,
but it's everyone we talk to, so it's the same thing.
Eagles are better on paper,
they have a better advantage in terms of personnel,
but there's Patrick Mahomes, there's Andy Reed,
and there's Steve Spagnolo.
Right?
So that's where the great equalizer or advantage
Kansas City comes from when it's all said and done.
Is Mahomes, this is something you want to talk about.
Is Mahomes the greatest in game clutch
quarterback of all time?
Yeah, we, we've kind of kicked that one around.
We had your, your buddy Mike Silver on Mike, by the way, I don't know what you
did, bruh, but he doesn't like you.
Um, anyway, um.
What?
The, uh.
It's too grumpy.
We were talking about that for him, it's Montana.
But what we mean by in game clutch quarterback, one minute left, you got the ball in your 30 yard line,
who's the greatest clutch quarterback of all time?
Not necessarily clutch game, but just that type of scenario.
And you've gotta look at what Mahomes has done
over his career and coming back with double digit deficits
and all this.
You know, Brady was a great quarterback
and yeah, there were a lot of big wins,
but man, if there's one quarterback, I want to put the ball in his hands with 40 seconds
left. I'd probably say my homes over, even over Montana.
The reason I say that cause my homes is more mobile, right?
That's the only reason.
We are speaking to Bob the Moj Marjomilic live from the Superbowl in New Orleans
here on the Halford and Brough show on sports net six 50. As I mentioned earlier, Moj is a presentation of the Clayton Public
House. If you want to go to the big football party on Sunday, you can still get reservations
at the ClaytonPub.com. Hey Moj, a couple of things here. Let's set the scene in and around
the Superdome in New Orleans. How big of a police presence is there right around the
Super Bowl right now?
I really want to hit on this because we got here Saturday and we walked,
we spent the night on Bourbon street and Frenchman street and there was a police
presence, but it wasn't like it was over the top or anything like that.
On Sunday, um, it was, it was night and day.
On Sunday you had every every side street probably had
about six to seven police vehicles just parked.
Every corner had barricades.
Every corner had either a police unit
or a national guard unit with the rifles, of course,
the automatic rifles.
And it's just, like, I mean, they're not intrusive, but man, are they everywhere?
And the other thing they like to do is they like to leave their lights on.
So like you see a police car with flashing lights, probably like every two blocks.
And it's not like there's a police incident.
They just want to let their presence be known, right?
So there is, and here's the thing, guys, I was here after 9-11, the first Super Bowl after 9-11, and
it was nothing like this.
I mean, the only thing that was different then is they had fighter jets in the air constantly
circling the city.
This time there's no fighter jets, but in terms of presence, this is just blown out
away.
So that is, and I talked to one of the National Guard members last night and I said,
it's kind of funny, I go this started on Sunday and there was nothing here Saturday.
I think I was like guess who's paying for it?
You know who came in on Sunday? Both teams.
As soon as the team showed up, the NFL said okay, we're ramping up security.
So I believe the NFL is picking up a large portion of the cost for policing New Orleans this week. So as a, I mean, I know you're media, but you're also a fan of the game,
like, and you're a fan of the city.
I know how much you like New Orleans.
How does it affect things?
Does it affect you?
Does it, how does this police presence and almost a military presence make you feel?
No, it doesn't.
It doesn't.
It makes me feel safe is what it makes me feel.
And like I said, they're not intrusive.
They just sit there like at every corner,
they're sitting on their barricades,
just watching people go by, have a fun time.
The other thing too, fellas, it's interesting,
is the fact that just for me last night,
I thought Bourbon Street would be a lot busier.
I went out last night, smoked the Stogue all the way down
on Lafite and then walked back.
And it was like, it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be.
And maybe it kind of holds true
because when you look at the ticket values,
tickets are going for face.
I mean, that's unheard of, right?
So tickets are going for face.
There's not that many people here.
One thing though,
because our videographer, Nick Kowalski from the Lions,
he's gonna stick around and actually watch the game.
Hotels are still through the roof, but ironically enough,
tickets going for face and honestly didn't feel that busy last night.
I'm wondering what the mix is in fans. I've heard that it's mostly Eagles fans down there,
and I'm wondering if there's some people from Kansas City that have been like,
I can't afford to go to a Super Bowl. These guys keep going to Super Bowls and I can't afford it and I'm not going to go to this one.
I wouldn't doubt that at all.
And I think that's what probably is maybe driving those ticket prices down, right?
I mean, it's a big ask to pay four or five, 6,000 bucks for a Super Bowl ticket at face value.
And that's face value.
A lot of those Kansas City Chiefs fans didn't pay face value the last couple of years that they
got them on the secondary market, right?
Now you're looking maybe whatever, seven, eight, nine.
I don't know the number,
but obviously it's jacked up a little bit.
So yeah, there might be some fatigue
from the Kansas City fans.
I wouldn't doubt that at all.
Okay, Moj, I know you got a lot to get to.
So before we let you go,
we do have a food related ask us anything.
It's me asking this one.
I wanna know, crawfish, yay or nay? Oh, big time nay. I don't know if you saw the hit that I had
with Dolly and Donnie. Nope. So everybody has a little booth here, right? Like Green
Bay had a little Lambeau Field booth for the NFL draft. Pittsburgh has a
booth for their upcoming NFL draft all of these things
are kind of like floating around all over the place and New Orleans of the
host committee had a little place for their serving one day they had like you
know gumbo another day jimbala a couple days ago or yesterday I can't even
remember now it was crawfish and I've never had crawfish in the shop had
crawfish in meals but I've never had crawfish in the shell, right? And it is so much work.
Like basically you gotta do the work
that you have to do with the prawn
and you get like one third of the meat.
The return on investment, the return on labor,
not worth it.
I'm sorry.
And it's funny because the guy was talking to me
and he says, you do it this way, that way.
I go, that's all you got?
And he goes, yeah.
He goes, it's more of a social thing.
I'm like, it's like peanuts almost, you know what I mean?
It's just, it was like, no, I'm not a fan of crawfish.
The most thorough breakdown you're gonna get of crawfish
anywhere in Vancouver Sports Talk Radio.
Moj, thanks for doing this today, man.
We appreciate it as always.
No worries.
Hey, by the way, Mike Silver said,
hello, love the interview with you, thought
you were great. I said, you're a big fan. So Silver's a good dude. Like I said, he gave you a lot of
love. Is this some bit you're working on? What the hell is going on right now? After we let you go,
we're going to play the audio. It's like, Mike Silver, the guy we talked about Jared Goff with,
I thought that was a pretty standard interview. For me, it was. Okay. Have a good weekend,
fellas. Enjoy the game. Travel safe Moj, see you buddy.
All right, I feel like Moj is up to something here.
Bob the Moj Marjanovic here on the Haliford and Brough Show on Sportsnet 650.
So one of the many guests.
Is Moj upset with me because I made fun of him with the snake?
I don't know.
I don't know-
Because I tweeted out that must be rock bottom for that snake.
Just hanging out with Moj.
Like Petey in Carolina, that snake in rock bottom.
The snake has since died.
So.
Alone in its apartment.
Sorry, he died doing what he loved, inhaling dracarnawars.
No, Moj talked to Mike Silver down in New Orleans,
one of the many interviews that he conducted,
and then they both kind of realized that, you know,
Moj being from Vancouver and being a
regular guest on our show.
And Mike, of course, guested on our show, I
want to say about a month ago, maybe he came on
a, for he was a two parter for him.
One, he did a big athletic article on Jared
Goff and the, you know, revival of his career
in Detroit.
Yeah.
And then he also had a new book out about the
coaching tree from Shanahan and McVeigh and the
new great young coaching minds in the NFL.
It was a great interview.
I remember I actually, I actually read the
article and I was like, we should get this Mike
Silver guy on.
Right.
And in a Craven classic Halford move, I opened
it up by saying one of my favorite NFL writers
of all time, I love his work.
And Mike was very, very gracious upon jumping on the line
and taking the call.
So anyway, Moj referenced a lot of this
and this was part of his interview with Mike Silver
down in New Orleans.
We'll play the audio right now.
And you were on our morning show, Sportsnet 650,
with the guys.
The why is everything, the book.
Yeah, you know, when I have a book out,
I will talk to anyone on any continent
Happily about how awesome the book is and that is the case with the why is everything a story of football rivalry and revolution
Available everywhere books are sold. It's about that McVeigh shanahan coaching crew and how they've changed the game lots of pettiness
So yeah, I got to talk to your morning guys that one guy Mike
Really good guy. Yeah, you're huge fan. Yeah, that guy pettiness. So yeah, I got to talk to you in the morning, guys. That one guy, Mike, really good guy. Big fan of yours, huge fan of yours.
Yeah, that guy was really cool.
What was the other, what was the grumpy guy?
The grumpy guy, yeah.
Yeah, that's Jason.
Yes, a little bit grumpy, that guy.
Kind of liked him too, though.
I get to my better judgment, I did.
Hey, tell us about the genesis of the book, why?
Okay, this is a Moj bit.
And then he went into the gym.
This is clearly a Moj bit.
He's angry at the snake tweet.
Moj asking about the genesis of the book was my favorite part.
Excuse me, Michael.
Anyway, yes.
They do throw another shot at you at the end.
That's why.
Do they?
Yeah.
That's pretty funny.
Keep rolling it if you want.
Well, I'm glad.
Yeah.
Well, you can roll away.
Hey, tell us about the genesis of the book.
Why?
By the way, I might have been coaching up a little.
I just want to just watch
Jason baby, nothing but love just baby
I respect him less now. I know he should totally stuck with that
Oh, we know I meant Mike's
Alright, it is ask us anything Friday on the program
So we'll do a quick reset here get one flag so we can do one before the break.
On the other side of the break,
Rick Dollywall is gonna join us for his regular Friday hit.
No shortage of things to talk about with Rick.
I wanna know when they're gonna sign Drew O'Connor
to a contract extension.
That's front of mind for me.
And then at 8.30, we're gonna do what we learned
in Ask Us Anythings for real.
And we're gonna give away the $100 gift card
to AJ's Pizza on East Broadway.
But let's wet the whistle a little bit here with Ask Us Anythings.
We got a bunch of them flagged in the Dunbar Lumber text message in basket.
A reminder, get yours in 650-650.
Ask us anything, Jason.
Go.
Oz and Squamish ask us anything.
What is your all time favorite halftime show and who would you want to see do one that
hasn't before?
Okay, I'm gonna answer the first one, Prince for me.
That was a good one, 2007.
Yeah, in the rain too.
That's tough.
He plays in the, it was a muddy field for Prince out there and he battled through the conditions.
I don't know who would want to, I'm so out of touch with music today, right?
All the bands that I love are just like, I don't know if those guys could make it.
Am I so out of touch?
Yeah, I know, it's the children who are wrong.
I mean, it happens, right?
Like, Adog, you're a musician.
If you watch the Grammys now...
I don't, for that reason.
And this has been a thing probably for 15 years.
Yeah, it happens. Like 15 years ago, all of a sudden one day, I was like, I don't know who reason. And this has been a thing probably for 15 years. Yeah, yeah. It happens.
Like 15 years ago, all of a sudden one day I was like, I don't know who any of these
artists are, so I just have no interest.
My favorite and a little bit of recency bias because it wasn't that long ago, it's fresh
in mind, but the 2002 Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium, the Los Angeles one where the Rams played
and won, Dre, Snoop, Eminem.
That was awesome.
And then they brought out Upside Down 50 Cent.
I loved it all.
Yeah, that was pretty good too.
Yeah, that one was great.
But again, those are like-
Well, Kendrick Lamar is gonna be hilarious.
Yeah, it's gonna be great.
And like not only hilarious, but he's a great performer.
Yeah, and Drake's hiding down in Australia
while it's all going on.
Hope he calls him out.
Yeah, well, because Kendrick Lamar made an appearance
with that one too, right?
He was one of the guests that came out.
But that one for me was a...
Prince is a really good show though.
That was a good one.
Yeah.
Sam the werehorse asks us anything.
Picture this.
Your show has been canceled due to A-Dog using the young boy's voice.
Okay, fair.
Oh no.
You are all forced to find another streaming platform
to continue the show.
Which platform would you use?
Oh.
There's YouTube.
I always wondered if anyone would pick us up.
Tubi, we're going on Tubi.
Yeah, we're kind of running out of sports stations.
Yeah.
If we get canned from here, I think we're done.
Spotify, aim high Willis.
Spotify would Spotify take us on board?
Yeah.
Get some of that Rogan money.
Yeah.
Take Rogan money.
You guys would have to be far more controversial.
Yeah.
I take Dave Rogan money.
Nevermind.
You need to start more conspiracy theories.
Then you'll get the Rogan money.
I'm trying every day.
Are we too old for barstool?
People are gonna be like, you can't go to barstool.
Yeah.
Yep to all of that
It'll be very uncomfortable who so what I should know these things who are the big
Podcast like it's we're on them audible Spotify audible Spotify Wonderly
Oh, you're talking about like companies like publishers. Yeah. Yeah, actually to be honest. I don't know that would be the dream
Right not that this isn't I'm talking about like companies that like. Publishers. Yeah. Yeah, actually to be honest, I don't know. That would be the dream, right?
Not that this isn't.
Nice say. Nice say.
That would be it.
But that would be the dream.
Tanbeer asks us anything.
I keep thinking Drew O'Connor is a Vertanen.
Are you guys having that same problem because he wears number 18 and he's a right shot?
No, I'm not because Drew O'Connor is around the net, buddy.
Yeah.
He goes to those parts of the ice that Jake Furtan had only read brochures about.
Shorty called him Dickinson last night.
That was funny.
And then DT, I don't know if he meant to make the funniest joke in broadcast history,
but he did.
He was like, Emily?
Which is an amazing pull if he did it apropos of nothing.
I don't think they planned that bit
He's like, I'm just a big fan of American poetry. What can I tell you? It was it was an incredible pull
But I I've seen okay, so I've seen I forgot Dickinson war 18
I was Chevy chase like it was great Emily. It was great. It was a great moment
I was given her text or just text texture just texted in drew Connor shoots left
Does he yeah, okay? Whatever did we say shot right? Yeah, Ritvert and and did I don't okay?
I'll see the shootout winner last night folks
I don't remember saying what handed either of the guys were
But I think the texture said he reminds him of her tanning because he wears the same number and has the same we're just talking
Yeah, but it's on your text or we're just talking about lie just talking about the number
Oh once a texture suggested the Jeremy Renner app for a podcast We're just talking. Yeah, but it's on your text or we're just talking about lie. Just talking about the number.
Oh, once the texture suggested the Jeremy Renner app
for a podcast.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I went and took off.
They all have to be approved by year.
We better, of course.
I forgot about the Jeremy Renner.
Yeah.
Eight.
I forgot.
Podcast and social.
Maybe I forgot the Dickinson war 18,
but I'm not going to lie when that texture,
I have thought about that
on a number of occasions.
Like 18 is the vertanin number still in my brain.
I don't know if this dynamic exists for anybody else,
but I see that number and I think about him.
And I think maybe more than one player has worn it
since he's worn it.
But Steve Bernier, 18?
I can tell you in a second, if you could filibuster,
I'll look it up.
No, I'm just going to wait and let the silence.
He was with the devils that picked him out.
You're not going to get a Spotify deal with this kind of performance.
Silence of the show.
Yeah, you're right, bro.
Yeah, it was number 18.
Yeah.
Okay.
We have got Rick Dollywell coming up on the other side.
We'll talk about all the things we usually do with Dollywell via the agents.
You're listening to the Alfred Imp Prof. Show on Sportsnet 650.
