How you doing, bud?
I've just become the biggest Marinus fan on the planet.
Thank you, Laddie.
I appreciate that.
Hey, and the other thing, Buckner's was worse.
Yes.
And I only say it was worse because they literally had champagne ready.
Yes.
There's no question that Buckner's was worse,
but there's a funny thing going on here.
I kind of use it to illustrate a point that people over time
have almost recreated the Buckner error in their minds.
Like people thought it cost them the World Series.
There was a game afterwards.
And then we had people texting in about the situation
that they thought that Buckner was in
and then texting in again, be like, no, I got it wrong.
Actually, I looked it up.
It's not correct at all.
But anyway.
But also the history of it, too.
right? I mean, the Red Sox being, you know, just not having won a championship.
They're both terrible.
Speaking of baseball teams not winning championships,
tough segue. How are you doing after the Yankees lost to the Blue Jays?
You know what? Once it's over for me, it truly's over.
Like during it, no one should ever speak to me.
And I shouldn't really be around people.
But like once it's done for me, it's done.
Listen, they go back to their homes.
You know? And then, and now, and honestly, I get to enjoy
the game. And now we put our, and now we put our heads down and we push forward. And that's the
important thing here. So this, this weekend. Maybe you've got another crushing defeat today with the
Mariners with scuba on the hill. That's right. Okay. So let's set it up because this. I hate baseball.
This is an amazing, this is an amazing time of the year, even though your beloved Yankees are out.
We've got Major League Baseball playoffs all weekend. We got a Kinex game on Saturday night.
NFL all day on Sunday. What's going on at both AJ's locations this weekend?
We're open and we're good and we're great
And it is it's going to be awesome
We got Canucks game Saturday night
You got great baseball game
And we're tired of eating turkey
Just come to AJ's and have some pizza and beer
And I will remind everybody
Don't leave when the Canucks game is on

The Dunbar Lumber text message in basket this morning
I've had to answer a lot of queries.
Carn the Plummer in one of the most amazing text exchanges ever.
The one thing he took from the first segment
was that I was two inches and 10 pounds off
Cam Scatabo's measurables.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
I was what do you?
Yeah.
Where are you getting your information from?
CNN?
I almost replied to Karin.
I'm like, of all the things we get wrong on this show,
that was actually almost right.
Yeah, yeah.
I said 59-205.
Karin says 511-215.
Okay, he's, to me at least, he's short.
Very short.
Very short.
And then I, so I did go through the exercise of looking up his combine measurables.
He's 5-9.
But who's to say?
Well, maybe he grew.
Maybe he's still a growing boy.
Yeah, he's a late bloomer.
Anyway, that's enough of that talk.
We've got a lot more to get to on the Halford and Breft Show on Sportsnet 650.
Let's get into some Blue Jays talk right now.
We don't know who the Blue Jays are going to play in the ALCS.
We don't know what the roster is going to look like just yet,
but we're going to try and figure that out.
Joining us now, a regular member of the show,
Associate Editor for Sportsnet.com.
Blue Jays writer, Zach Worden here now on the Halford and Brough Show on Sportsnet 650.
Good morning, Zach. How are you guys?
Good morning, guys.
Doing well here.
How are you guys doing?
We're doing pretty well.
We are busy.
We have had it, the Blue Jays have added a lot to our plate.
Normally we'd be 100% focused on the Canucks start to the season.
We're practically a baseball show now.
When do the Blue Jays have to set the roster and will Bo Bichette be on it?
Yeah, it's kind of the number one question that's out there right now.
So they got to make that decision by Sunday morning and they'll have, you know, obviously the workout day is set up for tomorrow.
So I think, you know, they sounded pretty optimistic about it the other day.
And, you know, it's kind of kind of the same thing that they did in the lead-up to the division series
where it kind of sounded like things were trending in the right direction.
Obviously, you know, we got video of him running on the field at Yankee Stadium before that game four.
So, you know, things seem to be trending in the right direction.
And I think we'll kind of get a little bit more clarity tomorrow about kind of where he's at
and what a Boba Shad appearance on this, this DS or sorry, CS roster would look like.
And I, you know, I think for him, it's, it's the longer series probably to me would make it seem a little bit more likely that he would at least be included if you kind of feel like there's any scenario that he's back for a game five or a game six or a game seven.
You maybe have to kind of take a little bit of a risk and, you know, maybe cut a pitcher off your roster so that you can kind of carry him there.
we'll get to the pitching in a bit, but with Bichette, is there a possibility that he could just
DH? I think it's the most likely scenario if he's back. I think the defense aspect of it probably
is still a little bit too far away for him to kind of get back to, you know, he's just kind of
been done the running, you know, the lateral movement I think. And I think the way Jimenez played
shortstop during the CS, or sorry, the DS. And then down the stretch of the regular season, you know,
I think that he provided a lot of value there.
So I think, you know, if Bo does come back,
it's going to most likely be as a designated hitter,
which certainly kind of throws, you know,
some wrenches into the way that they set up their lineup.
And, you know, it might kind of come at the cost of a guy like Anthony Santander
and where he kind of fits into all of it.
So, yeah, I think kind of most likely if he's back,
we'll see him as the D.H.
And kind of slotting in at the four hole.
And, you know, just kind of trying to make the difference with the bat
instead of, you know, kind of providing the value on both sides.
The roster is the same size for each series, right?
Like, it doesn't expand.
It is, okay, all right.
The pitching rotation.
I mean, it was, it's great that the Jays were able to get it done in four,
get everyone a little bit of rest.
I mean, maybe the best way to do it is Gosman-Yosvich bullpen game.
To start the series because that bullpen game went so well.
How do you think it will roll out?
Yeah, I think the bullpen game certainly gives you confidence that you can go back to it
if you don't feel like Chris Basseter or Max Scherzer are necessarily ready to step in
and take kind of a, to give you some length or some bulk in the series.
I think, you know, the bullpen game sets it up well.
Obviously, Shane Bieber gives you some concerns given the way how he kind of struggled a little bit
to end the regular season and then how he pitched against the Yankees.
he's there in game three. But, you know, yeah, I think, you know, you're Gosman, you Savage,
games one and two, which kind of sets them up to go five and six. I think obviously the way that
they've protected you Savage by having him pitch at the Rogers Center. It kind of makes
sense for him to go games two and six, which would both be at home, you know, should the series
get that far. And then, you know, you go probably Shane Bieber game three. I would imagine that they're
going to give him a chance to kind of figure that out. Game four maybe then sets up to be that
bullpen game, and then, you know, if things do really get to a game seven, then you can
kind of run back to that bullpen game, or you can run Shane Bieber back out there, or, you know,
I'm sure even in any kind of game seven scenario these days, you know, you're going to have
all hands on deck.
So I'm sure Kevin Gosman would kind of be a part of that conversation.
But I think, yeah, you know, the huge development, I think, kind of having the bullpen step up
in that game four win over the Yankees where, you know, Louis Varland looks good, he gets right
back on the horse after giving up the home run to Aaron Judge.
And, you know, I think with his kind of pitch mix and the way that he looks out there and, you know, him having been a starter just a couple of years ago, I think that there might be a chance that we might see him get a shot starting next year.
So, you know, I think he's kind of the perfect guy to start games like that.
And then the rest of the guys that they had step up, obviously, Eric Lauer is a very valuable part of any game like that.
And I really like the way that they managed it as well with being so aggressive against the top of the Yankees lineup with Sarantanthi Dominguez and kind of making those aggressive moves.
what do we learn about the Blue Jays in game four when considering that Toronto sports teams have had some tough times closing things out at times and I know that's not fair to pin all on this edition of the Blue Jays but game three you know it seemed like that Aaron Judge home run threw a little panic into certainly the media and the fan base but also
you know people were just looking back at things that had happened with this group
but the composure that they showed in game four
I mean surely that's that's got to serve them well going forward because they're going to face
adversity again yeah 100% I think you know if you look at what this team did in the regular season
and for them to you know be this resilient group that had so many comeback wins
and, you know, seems to really return the page well.
I think, you know, to see that happen in the postseason
gives you a lot of confidence that this is kind of the same team
that you saw in the regular season, just showing up for October baseball.
I think, you know, the way that the series unfolded, you know,
obviously there were some questions going in about how their style of play
would translate to the playoffs.
And, you know, obviously it translated very well where they were, you know,
putting a ton of pressure on the Yankees, putting the ball in play.
You know, I think maybe they hit a few more home runs than anybody may have
been expecting in the series.
So, yeah, I think for them to me, what they showed in the series was that their style
is going to play and it's going to thrive in the playoffs where, you know, they are just going
to be able to make contact and they're going to put a ton of pressure on you.
And I think the Yankees played pretty solid defense up until that jazz chisholm error.
And obviously, you know, that's kind of the thing that the Blue Jays are going to force you to do.
They're not going to strike out.
They're not going to let you get out of jams easy.
They're going to make you beat them, really.
And, yeah, I think game three aside where they kind of beat themselves defensively, it seems like, you know, they kind of are this team that is pretty steady and able to bounce back and be resilient.
So I think that was kind of the part that impressed me most with game four was just how they they were able to kind of settle down and play this, like, really solid brand of baseball that we've seen from them for six or seven months at this point.
We're speaking to Zach Worden Sportsnet, Sportsnet.com,
Blue Jays writer here on the Halford & Brough Show on Sportsnet 650.
If you were able to administer some truth serum to John Schneider
and get him in an interview one-on-one where no one would ever hear the answer except for you,
who would John Schneider pick to face in the ALCS?
Would it be the Detroit Tigers or the Seattle Mariners?
Yeah, it's a tough question.
I think, you know, the mariners, to me, are a little bit more of a deep.
for team, and I would imagine that the blue chase would feel the same way, and John Schneider
would say the same thing. I think the Tigers, you know, they have obviously Terrick Scoobel,
but he's pitching tonight, which kind of looks like it would set him up to pitch a game three and a
game seven unless they, you know, really pushed him on short rest, which, you know, they could do.
But, you know, it kind of feels like they have the one and a half starting pitchers where
it's Scoobble and then Flaherty in my eyes and, you know, they're going to have to really
mix and match with their bullpen, whereas the Mariners,
have, you know, the deeper rotation with Gilbert and, and Luis Castillo and Bryce Miller and
George Kirby who's pitching today. And then maybe even they get Brian Wu back. Like, that's,
that's a really formidable group that I think matches up well against the Blue Jays staff.
So as far as that goes, you know, and obviously the Mariners kind of down the stretch where we're so
incredible kind of running to that division title. And their lineup is a little bit deeper, I would say,
as well. I think kind of when you look at the Blue J's starting pitchers being so right-handed heavy,
And the Mariners' left-handed hitters have kind of been hitting a little bit better recently than the Tigers lefties have.
So you feel pretty good about the Blue Jay's ability to probably handle, you know, a Gleiber Torres and a Spencer Torkelson where, and obviously with their lefties in Detroit struggling, you kind of think that they would be able to get through that lineup where, you know, the Mariners, a little bit more of a thread with kind of the Cal rallies, the Josh Nailers, the J.P. Crawford and the Jorge Palancas, who are just one.
in it well, especially against, you know, this Blue Jays staff that has had a tendency to give up
the long ball to left-handed hitters.
Who's been Toronto's unsung hero through the playoffs so far?
Oh, that's a good question.
That's a long list.
Yeah, it's kind of the way that the whole season has gone.
But, you know, I think, you know, it's tough not to say Ernie Clement when he got the
635 average in the division series.
Obviously, I think Nathan Lucas is a really strong candidate for that as well.
You know, he only got the two starts in the division series.
I think you had five RBIs in those two games and all of them were really big swings for the team.
I think those are the two guys to me that have kind of like stood out all year as like the guys who represent what this team does and how they play like just two guys that battle in the box, put the ball in play.
You know, they have a little bit of power.
They play good defense.
You know, they're just kind of the guys that are there every day.
And obviously, you know, seems to be the most beloved guy in that clubhouse too, which is, which is obviously, you know, fun.
to watch and fun to kind of see the way
that they interact but
for him to kind of have that that big series I think was
really cool for him and you know it's the type of guy
that you could probably see stepping up
and winning like an ALCS MVP
if they were to advance and go on
just kind of the way that he
is able to catch fire and
give you that versatility
defensively I think that his value to the
Blue Jays this year has just kind of been
very very unmatched in that that was really
on display in
the division series. Things get
underway Sunday night
8 o'clock Eastern 5 o'clock
Pacific game one of the ALCS
It'll be the Blue Jays against the Mariners or the Tigers
We will find out the opponent tonight
That game gets underway at 5 o'clock Pacific as well
Hey Zach thanks a lot for doing this today
And earlier in the week
And then again last week
There's a pretty good chance given the
probabilities that we'll be calling you again on Monday or Tuesday next week
But thank you for this one
This was great, very exciting for the Jays
Hey sounds great guys appreciate you having me on
and always fun to jump on and join you guys
and have a great rest of the show.
Thanks, Zach.
That's Zach Worden, Sportsnet.com.
Associate Editor and Blue Jays writer
here on the Halford & Brough show
on Sportsnet 650.
Yes, he did say have a good show
and yes, I did say you too.
You are that guy at the airport.
You also have a good flight,
attendant person.
Do you know there's no hockey games today
in the NHL?
Okay, I talked about this with Laddie before the show.
I'm like, hey, you know how many games
that were in the NHL on Thursday night?
And he said, how many?
And I said, 14.
And I said, you know how many games there are tonight, Friday in the NHL?
And he said, how many?
I said, zero.
And I said.
But that, but that opens the deck for you because you can watch the Mariners game on one of your TVs.
Yeah.
And then you can watch Canada versus Australia.
430.
And soccer.
Yeah.
I mean, it's great.
It's the battle between the 25th ranked team in the world and the 26th ranked team in the world.
It's Clash of the Titans.
Sort of.
Australia's pretty good, though.
Marsh was speaking quite candidly,
and he's fallen back on the everyone's disrespecting us.
Oh, God.
Narrative again.
So this one was, I guess the Romanian manager,
no, I did not see these remarks or hear them,
but apparently the Romanian manager
said that the Canadian team is full of non-Canadians.
And Jesse Marsh took umbrage with that.
And then we played the audio from the well,
manager, Craig Bellamy, who accused Jesse Marsh and his coaches of prematurely celebrating
after they beat Wales.
So Marsh is trying to say, all these coaches in the aftermath of losing to Canada are trying
to overshadow the fact that they lost to Canada.
They're trying to come up with either, focus on this over here, a shiny bobble over here
that you can focus on, or they're trying to diminish the Canadian side.
I don't know if I love the approach
I don't know if you need to call other coaches comments
back onto the carpet in the aftermath
I don't really understand what the end game is
you already beat whales
He's always picking fights man
He's not picking the fight because technically the other coaches
Did pick the fights
But he's
When you poke the bear
He's the kind of bear that is going to swat back right away
He will not ignore the poking
Right
So that's not a great thing
When you know you can get someone's goat
I'm using all the animals here.
I don't love it.
I don't love it.
And I really like Jesse Marsh,
but I don't love the constant engagement.
For example.
Yeah, that's what it is.
It's just take a day off.
Take a day off.
For example.
From controversy and accusing people of poisoning your team.
I went to the White Caps match against San Jose last Sunday.
And in a rare moment,
of being demonstrative on the sideline,
Yesper Sorensen
yelled at the referee.
I can't remember what the incident was,
but you could see he was visibly animated
and yelled at the referee,
and the referee actually stopped the match
and came over.
Was Yesper wearing all beige?
He was.
He was all beigeing again?
He is the king of beige.
Okay.
Yes.
All right.
Which I think is actually befitting of his person.
He has a very beige personality.
Yeah, yeah.
He's just very calm and stoic
and he's not loud and flashing.
and demonstrative.
So in that moment
when he yelled at the referee,
the referee came over
and you could see
Yesper apologized
and he put his hand up
and kind of said like,
I am sorry.
I have lost my cool.
It does not happen often.
Yeah.
It will not happen again.
And then two to form.
Now, here's the thing.
With managers like that,
I think sometimes
fans and observers
want someone to be
more fiery
and more dramatic
and more over the top
because it looks like they care.
You know?
It gives the impression
that they're passionate
like his predecessor,
Vani Sartini.
But there's something to be said
for a manager
that can keep his cool
in the heated moments
because we've talked about this.
Like when things are becoming unglued,
sometimes you're looking around
and you're like,
who's keeping it together here?
And it's not always the players,
but when a manager can do it,
it's important.
Very important.
He sets the emotional tone of the team.
Very important.
And Marsh, the Gold Cup,
Gold Cup especially
he lost the plot
I thought it was too much
jumping up and yelling
Like there's going to be enough noise around
This Canadian team in the World Cup
They don't need unnecessary
noise from Jesse Marsh
That's a good way of putting it
Unnecessary noise
So you know what
Let's make Jesse Marsh
R one to watch
Going far afield here
I mean there's no NHL games to watch tonight
I could have picked someone from the baseball game
You could have picked Scoobel, I guess.
Sure.
Or Cal Raleigh, the big dumper.
But I'm going to go with Jesse Marsh.
I'm going to go with the gaffers Canada takes on Australia today.

What up, Moge?
I hate fantasy football.
Oh, no.
What happened?
Guess who's on my bench last night.
Cam Scataboo, 31 points on my bench.
Thank you very much.
92 rushing yards, three touchdowns, all five foot nine of them.
What a little fire hydrant.
I love the way he plays.
It's pretty impressive.
That guy's just like a little human bowling ball.
But, yeah, unfortunately, I decided to start Devante Smith at my flex last night.
Who got me a whopping eight points.
So the thing is, with fantasy football, I've always said this.
There's so much luck involved.
It's like, it's the slot machines of fantasy games.
So, yeah, I'm in a great mood after watching that performance.
Any poker bad beats you'd like to share with everyone?
You know, I have the most points in my league, and I'm two and three.
I don't care.
I honestly, I apologize, but like, so in my men's league hockey change room the other day,
all the young guys were talking about fantasy,
and I was just like, please stop talking about this.
Who won the games?
I admire, though, that you are willing to dive into fantasy sports at all levels,
and it shows you are still young at heart.
I just do it for the social aspect that's it
good start for the connects last night
yeah you were on press row what did you think
well it's interesting because
I wrote a column for black press
just talking about 10 burning questions and
a couple of those questions obviously got off to good
well several of them got off to good starts last night
I mean big thing is for this team this year
keep Thatcher Demko healthy he looked really sharp
last night made a really big save
when it was still 1-0 for Vancouver
and Calgary, I can't remember who it was, somebody came in on a breakaway short-handed.
He made a couple of big saves when it mattered.
So, you know, he looked good.
Of course, you know, health is imperative with Thatcher.
Then you look at Heidel last night scoring two goals.
There's another player who they have to keep healthy, and, you know, he can contribute.
And then LeCarramacchio as well adding a goal.
So, you know, all of these are key pieces to the connections here.
And one of the things, too, that I think is kind of flying under the radar in terms of, you know,
to connect success this year.
To me is depth.
I mean, we're talking about a condensed schedule,
a schedule in which you're going to be playing
three games and four nights,
you know,
back-to-back games.
And as a result,
you're going to have players.
They're going to be fatigued.
I think injuries are going to take a toll on a lot of teams.
Hopefully it will, you know,
be an issue with the connects,
but if injuries do occur,
they better have the depth
to overcome some of those injuries.
And I think they're going to be fine on the bottom six.
Obviously, they can't lose anybody out of the top six.
And, you know,
when you start getting into your,
7, 8, 9 defensemen for the Canucks.
You're talking about a rather inexperienced group for the most part
if you're getting into the Victor Mancini's of the world.
But talented and capable, I think.
Yeah, talented and incapable, yeah.
You know, it's going to be interesting.
She's just an unproven commodity, that's all.
So, yeah, great start for the Canucks last night.
And talk to Connor Garland for a little bit after the game.
One of the things, too, like, you've got to realize new system,
Adam Putt, and I asked them, I said, you know, are guys kind of still thinking out there?
Or does this system lie to play?
hard and fast and you know he said
nice you know you're really
most systems are the same you have little twigs
here and there but he said most of the guys are feeling
really comfortable with what Adam foot and staff
are presenting so like I said good start
for the connects last night yeah I was I was
going to actually ask you
about the system and whether
or not you thought
that the connects might take a few games
or maybe even like a quarter of the season
to get comfortable playing it
there were a few moments I thought last night
that looked pretty similar to
last season, but we did hear a lot about getting the defense went up in the play and more puck
pressure. And I just, you know, what else, I'm curious what else Connor Garland said, because we make
so much of the system. And then sometimes the players are like, yeah, there's a few different
things, but hockey is generally hockey. Yeah, and that's Connor Garland. Like, you know, that's what he
kind of said. It's like, you know, you have some coaches will do some different things. One of the
things we did touch on. And, you know, and again, Adam Foote has harped on this as well,
or he's touched on it. And that's the fact that they're going to kind of adapt each game to
what the opponent does and try to take away, you know, probably their strength. So, yeah,
and, you know, like you said, they don't really, most of the systems are the same. He says,
there's tweaks here and there. You said, but for the most part, you're not reinventing the
wheels. So it's just go out there and you have to have something that allows you to play hard
and fast, that you're out there, that you're just reacting rather than thinking.
And, you know, like I said, the Canucks last night, they got off on the right foot,
and it seems like they are playing hard and fast with the new system.
MoJ, here you've got a great story from the, quote, real, end quote, opening night at GM plays.
It was nice to see last night, I mean, bringing back, you know, Trevor Lyndon and Stan Smeil and Dana Merson and Russ Cortnell
and the alums to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the opening of Rogers Arena,
then known as GM Place.
And again, you know you're old, I tweeted about this when you actually covered that game.
But what I remember from the real opening at GM Place was a Kinnock Inter Squad game.
All right.
So it was one of those black versus white games, whatever.
And at the end of the night, we went down to the Canucks dressing room.
Now, dressing room back then much different than it is now.
when you'd walk in on the left-hand side, there was a room, kind of a small room,
nothing, it wasn't really big.
It had kind of like old high school lockers, right?
And that's where the players would change into their street clothes.
Now they would go to their stall, change, you know, get out of their hockey gear.
Then they'd walk into this locker room, and that's where, you know,
the guys kept all their clothes and all that.
And again, that's where they changed.
So after the game, we walked down there.
and it's like
it's chaos
players are running around
and I never forget
Joseph Moranick
he's wearing his pants
like his hockey gear and his skates
and he says
they got me too
somebody during the course
of this inter squad game
I guess they had left
one of the
you know where the trucks
come in the TV trucks
that area down there
oh no
yeah I guess somebody
had walked in off the street
or somehow breached security
walked into the
connect's dressing room and stole like about six or seven wallets and a whole bunch of money and all
of this stuff and pa man selmy who was running the building back then and went over to mLSC for a
long time i'm not kidding he's like outside the connect's locker room and he's just losing his mind
i mean losing his mind you know yelling at security guys this and that but somebody literally walked
off the street walking in the connect's room and pilford like whatever six to eight 10 wallets whatever it was
So that's what I remember of the original opening night,
which is an inter-squite game that the Canucks had there.
I wonder if it was the same guy that stole my wallet
when I was playing open hockey at UBC, almost 35 years ago.
Was there a ring of them?
The thing is about Rogers Arena today, it's like Fort Knox.
Yes.
You know, try to get into the Canucks room or whatever.
But to think that it was so laissez-faire, so to speak,
as somebody could just walk into that room
and steal a bunch of wallets
out of players' lockers, it's
mind-boggling, but it did happen.
You know what the trick is? Maybe it's a media guy, though.
We're pretty poor.
Yeah.
You know what the trick is, apparently?
I'm not dead serious.
The guys have done the sort of prank videos on this.
If you carry a ladder, apparently no one ever asks you any questions.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
You can get anywhere in any building.
I should carry a ladder to the Super Bowl.
So I say, he's like, well, he's got a ladder.
Let him go.
and then just you whisk by security,
you can go anywhere in a building.
You should try it at Rogers Arena.
I like the media.
I like the media thing.
Can you imagine like Tony Gallagher walking out
with like six wallets.
You know what?
I can.
I can't.
I can't see it.
Well,
I'm going to the Kegg.
We are speaking of Bob the Moj,
Marjanovic here on the Halford & Brough show
on Sportsnet 650.
I'm going to throw our ask us anything right now.
We won't end here,
but this is very befitting
because one, we always do an ask us anything with Moge.
We're talking about Media Row,
and we're talking about being in the building.
Duncan the chef has going to ask us anything.
Morning, gents.
I've always wondered, what's it like to be a journalist on game night at the rink,
which Moge was yesterday?
What can you share?
Is there free food?
Is there a buffet?
Is there booze?
Do people sneak in Mickey's a fireball?
What is the time ratio of watching and enjoying the game to be booping away on laptops?
Care to take a stab at this one, Moge, given you were of the three of us.
You're the most recent one on Press Row at Rogers Arena.
Well, they went all out last night with the media meal.
It was over the top.
They had chicken.
They had, I think it was ham.
Then they had the steamer hot dogs.
So, like, they went over the top because it was opening night.
I mean, you watch the game from, you know, press row.
And, you know, you sit there, and I had harm dialed to my right.
It was freaking out every time a VanderCain touched the puck on PowerPlay last night.
And to my left, Patrick Johnson.
And you watch the game and you talk about.
certain things and guys will ask questions and you know we just kind of have some banter about
the game and then obviously go down to the locker room afterwards and you can partake in the
scrums and all that so um you know it's it's it is what it is it's nothing really special or
over the top um it's not like it was the old days when it was a lot more slack so to speak i
remember at the coliseum like i'm going way back when i first started they had a mosen media
lounge and you could come down from the press because the press box is kind of like that
gondola up top and you come down to that lower level where the lounge was and they had a
moisten media lounge you could walk in and have a beer in between periods well that that went out
the window when they moved to rogers arena or jam place but that would have been a lot of fun
can you imagine like bruff and halford going to the game and like you know having like by the end of
the game just like being obliterated because you've been spending the whole time in the lounge
Well, sometimes I go down to the concourse and have a drink.
Remember we were doing Shotgun Jake?
Yep.
I had to do a couple of those in the concourse.
Yeah, with the peoples.
Yeah.
The height of professionalism.
Moge, I know the Lions are on a bye week.
I guess we're going to be scoreboard watching this weekend,
hoping Calgary loses, hoping Winnipeg loses.
I've kind of given Saskatchewan first place in the division,
but I would like to see the Lions
host a playoff game.
Can you handicap the race
for second place in the West for us?
Oh, wow.
I would probably go
Winnipeg 50 BC 40
and Calgary 10
and I only say that because Winnipeg
has a tie break around BC.
So that's why I'm giving Winnipeg
a little bit of an edge there.
But, you know, I could see Winnipeg losing a game.
out of the three
and then obviously BC has to win their
remaining two games
Edmonton will be a test of course
but when they play Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan should have first place
clinch by then so hopefully
you know you can go in a Saskatchewan
and steal one there so yeah I mean
it's wide open
right now just the fact that we're
talking about the fact that the lines of a shot
at second that was kind of
unfathomable maybe like about
four or five weeks ago but here we are
And, you know, I was going to throw this little nugget in there.
I mean, one of the big reasons why the Lions have kind of turned around on defense has been their pass rush.
I think they had whatever, 20 or 19 sacks in their last four games.
And, you know, so you say, okay, yeah, the pass rush is, you know, it's doing really well.
And yet you have a couple of new additions in Levi Bell and Bradley and I.
And those guys have definitely made an impact with the defensive line.
But here's the thing, had this been a situation where I think Rick Campbell was still the general manager?
I don't even think those guys would have seen the field.
And I say that because coaches love to trust players that they have experience with.
They're very reluctant to play rookies.
And, you know, you don't see coaches going to rookies unless it's an absolute necessity sometimes.
And the fact that Ryan Rick Maiden's the GM now, and he can say, no, we brought these two guys in.
We're going to play these guys.
We believe in them and we're going to play them.
And as a result, you've seen the Lions defense kind of take off since, you know, those two players have been inserted
in a lineup.
So just one of those little things that you kind of see is the fact that the difference
between having a coach who's your GM and then just having a personnel guy who's your GM
kind of coming into play.
Moge, before we let you go, Sunday 8 a.m., is that what time you're starting the pregame show
on Sunday?
Yes, Seahawks.
Tell us about it.
Going up against the Jags team, and here's the thing about the Jags doing a little research.
I'm actually going to talk to J.P. Shadrick, one of their beatwriters.
here in a couple of hours and do a pre-tape for the show.
But this is a team that last year went three in ten in one-score games.
They've won three consecutive one-score games, including the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last year, eight turnovers in 17 games.
In five games this year, the Jags have 14 turnovers, and it recorded one in each game.
So here's a Jacksonville team that's playing a lot harder, a lot faster, way more physical from what we understand.
Their offensive line has been a story this year.
So it's going to be interesting to see how the Seahawks fare against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And, you know, the one thing Seattle does travel well.
I mean, I think they're 21 and 6 in the eastern seaboard over the course of what,
how many years now.
So, but this is a Jags team that went through so many tough losses last year.
And this year, they're kind of learning what it takes to win.
And like I said, three consecutive one score wins, including a big one over the Kansas City Chief.
So it's going to be an interesting test.
It's going to be a really good test for the Seattle Seahawks.
Moge, enjoy it, buddy.
It should be a fun sports weekend, of course, a fun Sunday morning.
We'll do this again next Friday.
Okay, guys.
Have a great weekend.
Yeah, you too, buddy.
Thanks.
That's Bob, the Moj, Marjanovitch, a presentation of the Clayton Public House here on the
Halford & Brough Show on SportsNet 650.
It is Friday, by the way.
That means us ask us anything.
Friday.
That means the best ask us anything.
Gets a $100 gift card to AJ's pizza on East Broadway.
Get yours in now.
Dunbar Lumber Textline is 650, 650, 650.
hashtag it AUA and put a pizza emoji into your text.
You got a chance to win 100 bucks to AJ's.
Ask us anything from Plop.
Other than water, if you could consume only one other specific beverage,
not just beer, but logger, IPA, porter, or even PBR, for example.
For the rest of your life, what would you choose?
I would choose Coke zero.
I drink way too much of it
and I love it
soda so are you still allowed to drink water
in this? It says other than water
right if you could be water adjacent
I would so you're allowed water
you're still allowed water right so I have a crippling
sparkling sparkling water addiction
crippling is it just affecting your life
big time they're like he's just
he's out there like scratching the side of his face
looking for a can of bubbly
okay I drink so many bubblies are you per day
cans per can how many can't does he take it in the can how many cans um 10 what at least how a day
yeah wait a day yeah how much how much is bubbly how many thousands of dollars are you spending
on bubbly a month yeah my family's starving please help me yeah um I just can I can't I can't I try to drink
like as much regular water as I can I drink a lot of water period but between sparkling and still
it's a lot okay it's a lot but so my change
choice if I was allowed to plop would be sparkling water and then I would just be well hydrated
for the rest of the dentist said it's um sparkling water's not good for your teeth really yeah
the carbonation wears it the enamel and I said I'm ready to take that chance doc yeah my enamel I'm ready
to ride the wave what about you a dog do you have a drink that if you're only one drink and you're
allowed to drink water yeah I don't I don't have a specific drink to be honest I kind of mix
it up question for the group it's a hard one to answer question
the group, does anyone drink milk regularly?
Yes.
Yeah.
Like you have a big glass of milk?
Only with cookies.
Uh-huh.
I am almost 50 and I'm still like, I'm going to have a glass of milk with these cookies.
It is midnight.
Okay.
Chocolate milk.
Well, yeah, with cookies, it's mandatory.
Do you buy chocolate milk with regular milk?
No.
I buy regular milk and I mix my own chocolate in.
Thank you very much.
Look at you.
Okay.
I don't care for chocolate milk with a little bunny.
Yeah.
Awesome.
Um, I don't care for chocolate.
I don't, I never drink milk.
Really?
You don't like chocolate milk?
No.
I don't like the, um,
the mouth feel of milk
the mouth feel
yeah you're one of those guys yeah
the residual
sort of residual yeah
like the aftermath of milk there's an aftertaste
for milk the aftermath of milk the coating
it's frothy I'm careful yeah yeah well maybe if you wouldn't
have so much bubbly exposing your teeth
yeah it's a little bit of different
because you have weak enamel then I asked the doctor
drink and garnish every day I asked the dentist I says
the milk like enamel he said get out of my office
every dentist appointment for howford starts
with the dentist going,
Dear Lord.
You know what?
You know what are terrible
for your teeth
that I saw the other day?
What?
Like I'm not suggesting
it's a problem for you,
but it might be for A dog.
Okay.
Fishy crackers.
Oh.
Terrible for your teeth.
Goldfish,
you mean?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
The press,
speaking of press box food,
remember the press box in Pittsburgh?
Mm-hmm.
They had like an 18-gallon bowl
of goldfish crackers.
Yeah.
Just see the teeth?
Yeah.
All horrible.
Yeah.
Around Pittsburgh.
Just falling out,
left and right.
Dan from Berkwitlam with an Ask Us Anything.
Okay, hear me out.
Does being a fan of a sad club team actually make the sports watching experience overall more enjoyable?
If you don't know what the sad club is, it's a team that's never won a title and it's been in the market for a long, long time.
Dan continues.
Having not won a championship before makes it that much more exciting, particularly when you're close.
I think about the Mariners versus the Blue Jays.
Yes, it's sad, but the anticipation of winning a championship for the first time
adds a layer of intensity and desire that many teams no longer can experience.
Yeah, especially for the older fans, things did change for me a little bit
when the Blue Jays got over the hump in 92 and won the World Series.
You've said the same thing about the Seahawks too, by the way.
Yeah, they did change a little bit, although I still felt the pain a year later.
Right, but that was more the way that they lost.
Not that they lost the Super Bowl.
But once they got it, it was kind of like, okay, well, I've seen that.
Although, you know what, it was a little bit different for the Seahawks
because I actually wasn't able to watch that game.
Right.
We don't need to rehash that story again.
Can you not be happy for the next generation of fans who have an experience?
Yes, it's different, different.
I'm just thinking about me with the Js.
I have no recollection of 92, 93.
This is all foreign to me.
So it feels like it's the first championship.
For sure.
I'm sure there's Leifes fans and Oilers fans that feel the same way.
There's these fans in their 50s.
I mean, there's a possibility that there's a possibility.
I don't think this is going to happen,
but there's a possibility that we see a Mariners Brewer's World Series.
Yep.
An all sad club.
By the way, on that note, if you had to pick your dream World Series scenario right now,
what would it be?
Because you're down to how many teams left?
There's three in the...
Oh, six, right?
There's three in the...
I think it might actually be Mariners Brewers.
You'd want to see Mariners?
Because I want the Mariners to win, and I want to...
I have zero interest seeing the brewers and the world series.
Is there a way to make Mariners Jays the final?
No, no L.Jays.
I think Blue Jays Dodgers would be great.
Awesome, and I think Mariners' Dodgers would be awesome.
What about Blue Jays Brewers?
I don't...
I have no interest in the Milwaukee Brewers.
I tried to get into that game line.
night and I was like whatever like just give me game five I'll watch it I mean I
I just I understand that they haven't won and I understand that they're in this
unique club but I have zero interest in them oh I yeah part of it part of his
geographical for sure they're very far removed part of it's like I'm not all
that familiar with the team the players like you know Robin Yount still there that's
that's a funny joke chance for you to learn a chance it is a chance to learn you know
a name I remember the other day Rob Deere he was a good one he was the original like
This is either going to be a home run or a strikeout.
He was ahead of his time.
226 batting average, 47 home runs.
Rob Deere, baby.
Him and Jeffrey the Hackman, Leonard.
Yep.
Who is it, Dave Kingman?
Was another one of those back in the day?
That's a good poll.
All right, we're old.
Oh, I have an answer.
Coffee.
Yeah, we missed that.
I totally missed that.
Coffee is a drink, I guess,
and I couldn't imagine my life without it.
That's my answer.
You know what?
I would have got to that,
but I needed more coffee this morning.
I haven't had enough.
Imagine my life without caffeine.
Okay.
Dollywell is coming up next.
Speaking of caffeine, the human embodiment of caffeine,
Rick Dollywell is going to join the program.
The human monster energy drink
in a Hawaiian shirt.
And monster's spelled wrong.
Rick Dollywell is coming up next
on the Halford and Brough Show
on Sportsnet 650.
