Starting point is 00:00:00 A listener production. Activate your internet. Cos the Hamish and the podcast starts in 3, 2, sorry, still buffering. 1. A hoi to me scout, Hamish. I'm right here and ready to tie knots and report back to whatever I see. A hoi to me scrub, Jack. I will clean whatever I see. We're very obedient. And I'm the gas guy. The gas guy? Oh, yeah. That's casual. What do we have official names here as the gas guy?
Starting point is 00:00:49 Any idea? Scrubs? Scout. Scrub. Gas guy. I know. Something to do with surgery or snipe him? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Gosh, you're good, him. Operating theatre staff. This comes from a least tailor. She's in the field and that's what they call each other Scout is the nurse who fetches things in an operation not considered considered sterile Secondly the theater for more supplies or to get a king with him chocolate Definitely that would bother me having to scrub in scrub out. Yeah, yeah, so that's why I thought maybe you'd be like that The scrub the nurse that is scrubbed up like a surgeon
Starting point is 00:01:27 passes instruments to them, so that's what Jack does to us. Passes us a microphone by pressing a button. Famously not eligible to date anyone from TLC. Yes. No. They don't want none. None at all. And the guest guys, what they colloquially call the anethocis.
Starting point is 00:01:44 That did sound colloquial to me. No, I didn't say what you're doing because if you threw in a necetus test we wouldn't know. We wouldn't, no one would be shouting out, you know, furniture's door. I see the customers, Jack Cleansness, the chairs. And you put them under if needs be. Or Hoy also to Travis and Julia who uploaded this from Canada in the hamishlany.com. Hey, Mission Andy, living apart from the path of a smear common man. Do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do do That was a... I'm not common people. Why do they stress so much? I'm tempted.
Starting point is 00:02:47 I'm not common people. How did they all lose touch? Hey boys, sorry for the rough tune there. I'm having a fancy quiet learning in high school. I see nice. LAUGHTER Again. I can't. Oh, again. I can't wait to bet on Mike as well
Starting point is 00:03:08 to round out to get all the form of this. Is he at all four of us? Yes, well thank you, Travis and Jules. Oh, thank you guys, cheers. Well, it's worth more. I mean, just something like they could have done at least one more take. No, I appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:03:23 That's like me and Margie's booth when we have to sing something for the show. That was good wasn't it Marci? Well, I mean, you got through. Yeah. That was a lot of it. Yeah. That was good to me. You got to have that into the Marci to tune and put time and everything.
Starting point is 00:03:38 You can fix all that, OK mate? Hey, funnily enough, speaking of the members of the team, the podcast, I was buying some gum from a new stand the other day. And the magazine called my eye, yes, yes. Favorite is the two, what's the one with the two stripes of crystals going through it? Oh, yeah, with, um, hard to get. Yeah, yeah. You haven't seen all the times. Active strips.
Starting point is 00:04:04 I haven't seen that, but they are rare. Hard to get. It's, it's, it's, it's better than the original. Yeah. Phase out your original. Yeah. Active strips. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:17 Keep this. That's how you evolve with the market. I guess it's one of those proxies for Active strips. Not taking off light diet for Nellicoke. My eternal battle. That was your favorite. Yeah. It was my favorite nets now been removed. Regular vanilla's in there, thomping vanilla's not.
Starting point is 00:04:28 They either have inactive strips that, well, just look the same. Old pellets. Just nude old extra. Got my gum and looked out the mags and the front cover of podcast weekly caught my eye. That is the only thing that is there. It is there were a lot. All the hottest guests from the podcasting world who's in there is out. And it's the kind of thing that could have been, you know, or like, wow.
Starting point is 00:04:55 And I too won't caught my eye. Unauthorized. There's our three faces. Take the quiz. Take the quiz. Which one of Hamish and your Jack are you? Right. You know, go inside.
Starting point is 00:05:05 I start flipping through the guys like mate, not a library. Got it by us. Okay. Yeah, 2495. All right. He's a bloody expensive mag. Got the mag. Took it home.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Is it a weekly mag or is it like a woman? It's on cast weekly. Oh, I know what you mean. Yeah. Woman's weekly, which is monthly. Monthly, yeah. Yeah. No, it does seem to be weekly.
Starting point is 00:05:24 I mean, there's so much going on in the industry. And we'll do need a weekly. That's the confusing thing, isn't it? That's the only reason I don't buy them too confusing. Exactly. But I buy podcast weekly because it says it's weekly, it follows to what it's promised. So there's a lot of stuff in there, you know, like, you know, well, what's Joe Rogan up to kind of thing? But I love its locals, good local Aussie stuff. Anyway, I was excited to see, to take the quiz. And I thought it would be fun to give you guys the quiz to see how you end up. So I mean, I have to start with a time. No, I just go one at a time. Okay. Do you want to start? Yep. All right, so pick a number one to four. Three.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Okay. Paver color, blue, yellow, green, red, blue. Yep. Favorite animal, horse, cat, pig, chicken. What if there's another bee above you have to pick one still? Go pick one. Pig. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Favorite color of hair and a girl, blonde, brown, brunette, red headed, or a grey. It doesn't look like you're breeding it. Like it looks like you're just... I mean, you're really... I'm reading a second. Yeah, blonde. Gone, brunette, red didn't cry. Was that the options? Okay, yeah, um, brunette. Okay. Brunette, Brad didn't cry, was that the options? Okay, yeah, Brunette. Okay. I mean, I'd have to score was... I think... I think...
Starting point is 00:06:56 I didn't get... I can't... Okay, this is interesting. Here we go, reading the scores. Okay, your score indicates you're more of an Andy You like Andy like things to be pretty organized and streamlined in your world You can never have too many things In a neatly labeled tupperware tub and the label on the front of the tub It's perfectly in the middle of that tub. And the label on the front of the tub is perfectly in the middle of that tub.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And if the label is on the shorter side of the tub because the tub is a rectangular prism and then in the cupboard, all the other tubs in the cupboard should also have their label in the center of the short side of the tub. You're an Andy. Okay. You got Andy.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Jack, do you want to do it? Yeah, let's go. Okay, here we go. Faye, pick a number. One, here we go. Pick a number. One, two, three or four. One. Interesting. Five colour.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Red, yellow, blue, green. Green. Oh, five animal. From the one. Yeah, read it out again because of we've got it. Yeah. Horse. Pig.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Yes. Cat. Yep. Horse. Horse. Oh. Yep. Awesome. I love this. Five foot color of hair in a girl. It was blonde red red. Brunette.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Okay. Favorite fruit. Kiwi apple. Isn't your blonde? Well, she's a brunette. She's a natural brunette. But she does go blonde. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Okay. Hang on. I'll just keep going. Okay. I'll just keep going. Okay. I'll just keep going. Okay. I'll just keep going. Apple isn't your wife blonde. Well, she's she's a brunette. She's a natural God. Go blonde. Interesting. Okay, I'll just You don't like what you've become.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Oh, anyway, interesting. Okay, computing. Okay, you're screwing the case. You're more of a jack. Jack is the baby of the group and has a sexy laid-back personality yet he's strong and masculine and can build a house all by himself. Jack is a rebel and he's listened to dozens of hours of punk music when he was a legal child. This is why he ignored some of the building codes that he was required to have abide abound construction of his house. Like Jack, you're edgy and wary of big corporations like Hoetz and happy to hit them where it hurts if there's something in it for you.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Although, more than happy to let the money fly back the other way when it comes to the biggest company on Earth, Tesla. Like Jack, you have a much more exterior, you're a soft interior, but it's a yearly amount, which isn't able to handle the peak of a total right now. That resonates with me. You have a jack, I have a jack. You have a jack, I am a dad. He's a quiz expert.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Very good. Very, very good. You need to be able to do that. From now on, it's really accurate. Who did you get home? I got me. Yeah. I won't bore you with a quite complimentary.
Starting point is 00:09:37 So thank you to the people at Pongkass. You know what? I think it's just as accurate as the horoscope. LAUGHTER MUSIC MUSIC Ando, it's time for another special skill. Now, we have just selected this guy, because we thought, look, let's give it a bell. I bought it to you, and they said,
Starting point is 00:09:59 look, Phil and my son of the Fenty's name is Michael. He says, I can turn a phrase into a death metal song, brackets with varying pitch. So, you know, ups and downs, give us a song. I couldn't quite pitch it in my head as to what it's going to sound like. So we thought we'd just give it a go. I thought we'd give it a go. And look, I think it's, I think it's, you know, it's in the realm of, there's obviously a particular voice you do. So like when you're seeing death metal, it's a lot of you low, you know, you know, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:30 I don't think with all due respect to death metal singers, and it's tricky. I probably wouldn't be up the front, I'd be up the back, triple pedaling on the drums. On the drums. That's, I mean, I think it is tough. It's not like, you know, there's metal, then there's like death metal. Like death metal, you know, this is hard stuff.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Yeah. So our job will be to give him phrases. Yes. And then to see how he goes from there. Okay. Let's bring him up. Michael joins us right now. Oh, do you, Michael?
Starting point is 00:10:58 Uh, Hi boys. Michael, Mike, I'm very excited. Interesting skill you've suggested turning any phrase into a death metal song. Obviously, you're a death metal fan, are you? Yep, I have been for a year. What's your favourite death metal band? I am a bit part, Tissue to slipknot.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Oh, great. Yeah, partitions to slipknot. The French. Have you seen them without the mark? I mean, I haven't thought about something over quite some time, but do they ever show themselves without the masks are there rumours that it's like different people under there or where are they at? Well, the lead singer, Corey Taylor, is usually out of the mask when he does his single work and everything like that. So we know who he is.
Starting point is 00:11:45 I feel like they live in it. But how do you know he is the lead singer of Slippnot? We could be here. Yes, but you haven't seen without the mask. But is he unmasked? We don't know. He's slipped out of the laro band. Sorry, they always ask.
Starting point is 00:12:00 Before we mask. But wasn't I, didn't you just say, sorry, Mike, did you say that he's unmasked when he's out the front or he's mask when when when they perform as a band always in mask yeah I thought he was singing a solo in the song Who seems to solo. He's still a quiet boy. He's a quiet boy. I bet. Yeah, I've thought of a few of them,
Starting point is 00:12:30 but he's not texting me. He's not as copsy. Free the punch. Yeah, okay. So I suppose it puts the cat doll's occasionally eliminated. Nicole's is doing the bulk of it, but someone else might get a solo at some point. Yeah, one direction.
Starting point is 00:12:41 I have solos. That's right, but not when you're the only singer in the band. Michael, we are going to put a phrase to you. You said you wanted 30 seconds to a minute to think of the song. So I guess we'll just play some music or something, ham and talk amongst ourselves. And then we'll come back and hear it. Hey, or should we do one phrase each, guys? And out of the...
Starting point is 00:13:04 Can we just give you a sentence or a... When you say phrase, does it need to rhyme? Do you just want something we're using normal conversation? Honestly, any five or more words I should be right to go. Great, okay. Michael, let's jump into this. Let's get lyrical, lyrical, heavy metal lyrical. Mike can get lyrical if it sounds like this song.
Starting point is 00:13:32 He's got it wrong, this sound is very wrong. Yeah, so if it's like that's a single, that's not what you're going for. That's not death metal, no. But lovely nod to the late great Olivier Newton John. Yes, beautiful touch. Okay, do you want me to start? What do we, I just start with, just want to start with a regular sentence.
Starting point is 00:13:53 Yeah, go for it. What about my favorite chocolate is Toblerone. My mouth can handle the spice. My, you get, we'll put you in hold. How long do you need to listen to us? He needs 30 seconds to a minute. We're gonna come back in 45 seconds. Yep.
Starting point is 00:14:11 And Mike is going for that now. Um, Jack. Because done correctly. I, this is a great song because it is a pretty hard core thing to sing about. We're learning. We're learning to handle the spikes of toporow. They're catatoma and they're told, I told you that she's a big fan of them.
Starting point is 00:14:26 And I said, sling me, they're triangle because I hear that it's high risk to put one of those in your mouth. But it does not swallow your swords. It didn't really attack my mouth as much as it does for Jack. No, it won't, and it won't, every time. But there is a risk. There's, oh right, there's time. No, no, no, but if you're doing a whole bar, eventually it's gonna get you. That's not there, Slugan. I'm so worried. You're doing a whole bar?
Starting point is 00:14:55 Eventually. That will get you. Or like Russian roulette. Yeah, that's pretty exciting. They should lean into it. Okay, so that's about a minute. Michael, are you ready? Yep. Okay, go that's that's about a minute. Um, Michael, are you ready? Yep. Okay, go for a put
Starting point is 00:15:08 With the Spine Yeah And that's a weapon! Yeah, yeah, we got it, we got it. Oh, I like to think there might be not a hot second here. With Tobler and executives in that 45 seconds, maybe someone from the company is listening and they were like, you know what, if this is good, let's...
Starting point is 00:15:44 I think it'd be a very select audience. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is good, let's get it out there. And let it grow organically, is it something on TikTok or whatever? I'm not anymore holding my breath for the Toblerone mic crossover. I would love to see Toblerone become the heavy male, the death metal chocolate of choice. The death metal chocolate of choice, you know choice. They're the death metal chocolate of choice.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Do you know it? At sleep, not cons. Yes, the off-dirt, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, like the fellas chucking out toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, toad, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no hold him against that. He didn't say I'm going to make a beautiful song. If you didn't say I'm going to make a wonderful ballad and then done that. Yes. No, you need to say what you said you're going to do. I think I don't know what I was expecting, but it was more than that. With all due respect to you, Michael. I think we've had 50% of the blame here. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Because I didn't know what was I thinking. What were we expecting? Yeah. So, Mark, you come on. You've done exactly as you said that you could do, because I didn't know what was I for you. What were we expecting? Yeah. So Marko, you've done exactly as you said that you could do, but I'm just not that impressed by it, I suppose that's where it sits. Probably a taste thing, isn't it? Yeah. Well, I was going to say like toboome, but that's not a taste thing, that's a feel thing. Yeah, so like toboome, it's a personal feel.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Marko, are you okay with that feedback? Look, I know it's not for everyone Hmm you've got to have better taste than that obviously Not a bit again not a slide on what you like well done executed what you said you're gonna do I just absolutely the last thing we want to do it. I just know I don't want a feud to Open up between the Hamish any podcast and the death metal community. No, we love all about it Well, I've a personal one between Andy leave a person and the death metal community. Now we love all the personal one between Andy, Lee the person and the death metal community.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Sure, sure. I don't want to be a company. We are the all team. We will send you a token of no value. They certainly will certainly will. And you know what? Do you like Toblerons? I actually don't.
Starting point is 00:18:00 So that was a hard one for me to do. Oh, I don't. Oh, I don't. Oh, I don't. I don't have any to send. I was going to buy one out of my own money, but not anymore. Michael, just quickly, why don't you like me? A bit scared of the house shop they can be? It's those spikes they can get.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Yeah, yeah. They're coming, coming, Theme. Michael, thank you for that. I meant to represent the Nathorn. Okay. in, theme bike. Thank you, Mr. Represented. The man of the horn. Okay. No, I'm supposed to see if I can. Thanks, mate. Ando.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Mm-hmm. We're very lucky to have it out of disposal. People from all walks of life with incredible qualifications. Yeah. Sometimes without qualifications that can do amazing things, like, you know, CHOMP or Cary, 12 pots of beer and two hands without putting your fingers in it. That's incredible.
Starting point is 00:18:51 We also sometimes need people that have other skills that you need to go to university alone. And one press by these people, but I don't know. It's just something about restoring site. I think in the right context, it can be viewed as impressive work. We've got a friend of ours, Maddie. He's actually an ophthalmologist. He's an eye doctor.
Starting point is 00:19:10 I surgeon. One of, there's not many in Australia. And I always make one of it. He's the very best he does now. How are you, Maddie? I'm good, guys. Thanks very much for having me on. No, not quite sure.
Starting point is 00:19:22 But there aren't that many others. And I'm certainly not the best, but I'm loving to join you. How many are there? How many ophthalmologists? You don't bump into too many. No, I mean, it's a good thing if you're not bumping into us, have I say? We dodge them, so we don't need you. Oh, there'd be, I don't know, there'd probably be a few, a few hundred across Australia. Do you have a, like, a convention? You all go and do we do? We all catch up once a year, yes. Do you ever take votes on things and then amusingly say the eyes have it? Not yet, but I'm definitely going to suggest that.
Starting point is 00:19:58 It'll bring the house down. That's why you come to professional comedians. We'll give you the good stuff. Maddie, there is a guy you're up with. I have an eye question. We do like to get a special son of a show where you have a question. Could be solved very easily. But I've noticed something happening as I get older.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And I wonder if this is age-related. I took with my little girl at the public pool, right? So you're not charging for this consultation, am I? By the way, this is a free obligation quite, yeah. Without me being able to see anything or check anything. Yeah, yeah. Well, no, it's a theoretical question, really. Okay, gotcha. She's just learning how to swim. We go no, it's a theoretical question, really. Okay, gotcha.
Starting point is 00:20:45 She's just learning how to swim. We go the public pool a fair bit and we've just been going occasionally just to muck around, like not for a swimming lesson. And so she's liking to sort of like push off the wall and what, she's got goggles on. I, a bit of a hero, don't even need them. And I've been pushing off the wall as fast as I can underwater. But I'm noticing the pressure with which I keep my eyes closed under there because it is a pretty heavily chlorinated pool. The water is still getting in my eyes and getting up under my eyelid.
Starting point is 00:21:17 It's not lazy leads. Can you get weak eyelids? Because it's like I actually don't feel like I can shut the water out anymore. My eyelids got looser or the muscles got weaker. There is a condition called floppy eyelids syndrome. Sounds like he's got it. Full disclosure, that's not a doctor. Is it really? Yeah, you can Google it after we've discussed this issue. It's unlikely you've got that, but it's possible.
Starting point is 00:21:48 You can get it in the room. It looks a little floppy. Like, it's a bit too much. It's a bit too much of the, of the lids. It may be that you're just pushing off the wall with such incredible velocity that the wall... I was saying, how many blinks should Hamish be able to do quickly? And so can I watch him now and go,
Starting point is 00:22:09 oh, it's slow, like, no, that looks pretty quick, him. Sorry, Hamish, I'm just a flicky person. If you can do like eight per second, that's, I'm just, I'm just adding. I'm not a hummingbird. So can you, could he get lead weights? Could he get, could he go to the gym? And is there like, could you, could he get lead weights? Could he go to the gym and is there, could you attach like tiny grams, like maybe even a
Starting point is 00:22:30 lead pencil on the top of the leads to try and make sure that you don't have to knock those muscles? It's weird, isn't it? Because if you put weights on my lead, that would actually increase the muscle opening bleed. That would be that would actually need to put bands on my leg. A lot of people hang you upside down. Yeah, right. You could do some sort of squeezing exercise. I mean, you'd look pretty stupid and there'd probably do nothing. You'd like
Starting point is 00:22:57 to try something, go for it. Yeah. So what would you recommend? Maybe just, I just wear some goggles. Not worried about that. It's just part of aging isn't it? I do. My dad has so much eyelid skin. Do you get more eyelid skin as you get older or is your face melting down into the lid area? It's more of the melting process really. I think you lose all that elasticity of your skin and then it starts to droop. Isn't that crazy? So really, you'd be looking now at the skin that's behind your eyebrows.
Starting point is 00:23:30 And you'd be looking at it being like, one day boys, you'll be down on the eyes. Like you will drop. Yeah. Because my dad has about three times as much eyelid skin as the average human. Like he's eye barely open. Does it get heavy? Yeah, so I have to get heavier. And it's sitting there on the lid.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Your lids can close and you can't see as much. It's like a bed. You know when you thought the heating's broken or something, you chuck three extra blankets on the bed. Like that's bad side. I think it's just the layers of skim. Do you have an eyepiece? Someone else had an eyepiece.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Well, Mike did, I think, he wanted an eyepiece. I'm amazed, forgotten it. Because he was about to ask it in the meeting. We said, save it for Matt. But my question is to do with cross-eyed. Yep. What makes people go cross-eyed? Has any of that happened spontaneously? Yeah. Like you're not voluntarily. You prefer not to be happening.
Starting point is 00:24:20 OK, gotcha. So that's called Stribusmas. So that's where the eyes are misaligned. Usually it comes on in childhood and a lot of the time we don't actually know why it's caused. It often can be the first sign that the child needs glasses. Right. But there we go. A bit long-sighted and so we give the glasses and the eyes straighten up. Should you be able to go cross-eyed? So I can't go cross-eyed. Should my eyes be strong enough, if I was to follow a finger from like a meter away from me as I brought it in towards my nose, my eyes give up at around the five centimeter mark.
Starting point is 00:24:55 So that's called convergence insufficiency. Again, that's a known problem, highly related to those that have other deficiencies in other parts of their body. Just joking. Just joking. Can you answer the infuri-erival? It's got nothing to do with anything else. Don't stress. Don't tell me. Yeah, that is a normal number.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Should I be doing some work on that? Well, he can do exercises for that one. They're called pencil pushups. Right. We're basically, you know, this, that's the simplest thing. You just have a pencil and you bring it towards your face and you work hard to try and hold, hold focus on it. But why do you want to be one of those?
Starting point is 00:25:40 Put it, I think it's because, you know, why it's a good question. Why would you need to train to get that ability back? Well people have trouble, people with convergence and sufficiency can have trouble reading because when you're reading, you're effectively slightly crossed in. And therefore if you're not able to do that, you can get headaches and other issues. Speed of focus.
Starting point is 00:25:59 And I was eating a sausage roll, the closer it got to my mouth. You might miss. You might miss. I might miss. That's right, it was a double vision, that's right. You'd have the guts to get it all in without looking. I don't know if the guts to do the no look sauce roll. Okay, the other question that I ran any other question at Canterbury when we were talking about this beforehand,
Starting point is 00:26:18 it was people on the team here think that all eye surgery is done by the person's awake, and we were saying, no, No eyes are open, but the person's asleep. Is that right? Most eye surgery is actually done while the person is awake So we do it with a local anesthetic so we We deliver anesthesia around the eye so everything's numb and the eye can't move and we did a surgery while the person is awake But do they chat? Yes, what are they doing? Yeah, we chat to them, definitely.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Yeah, yeah, that's what it is. What's going on? Go to your topic. I was trying to just say, oops, or, isn't that distilling? No, I was just kidding. If they're awake and they see you with utensils going into their eyes, do they ever go, woo, what do they? Well, we cover them up, they're under a drape and then we just work another one eye at a time
Starting point is 00:27:13 usually. And we talk them through that, talk them through that, say, you know, it's all going well or 20 minutes left or you'll feel this sensation on that sensation. It's always a bit awkward if you, because we train the, you know, the surgeons that are learning and they're doing the surgery and you're talking to the the trainee is there, is there operating and you've got to use certain language to ensure that the patient's confidence remains high. Yeah, I can imagine. Well, that's the thing. Do they get to choose? I always feel like that's not the I were going with. Darren, I've told you this so many times. That's the nose, you goose.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Brilliant, Matty, thank you very much for joining us. We know you've seen her look like at you episode, but I'll get these eyelids fixed. And pencil pushups for me. We've got our prognosis. We've got our prognosis. [♪ OUTRO MUSIC PLAYING [♪ Hame? Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:10 I'm bringing out something that people will think they know where I'm going. But there's a little twist. See if you can pick up on it. This sounds like this sounds like this sounds like this. If this sounds like that that I'm your man. Andy Lee, segment sleuth. Mm, segment sleuth. Yes, obviously normally people come to me
Starting point is 00:28:32 with songs they think sound like other songs. People have started coming to me with segments they think sound like other segments. So I'm gonna start with a segment. And this one comes from a very popular podcast I love it. Have a listen to this one. The games could tell us something we haven't thought of in a while.
Starting point is 00:28:50 It's tough game. It's obviously a subjectively judged game because it's an honesty system between myself and Andy. Over whether or not, if you name a person of no to famous person, whether or not we've thought of that person this year. You're obviously getting to the point of the end of the year, we've done a lot of thinking,
Starting point is 00:29:06 and often it's about people. I am going to play the play. Oh, that's pretty good. That's very good. I haven't thought it played for a while. So I think they're good. They're good. They're good.
Starting point is 00:29:17 No, no, every breaks are here, but enough are to keep you coming back. That's what I like about them. That is a grab from the Hamish and Andy podcast. Okay. It's definitely the one we're on. And that segment is something that we like playing called Tell Us Someone We Have A Thought of For a While. That's why. Well, but could I just point out too, and I'm not trying to play favorites here, but I happen to know those guys personally, I used to listen to them when they're on radio.
Starting point is 00:29:42 That's actually an old radio segment. They bought back by special requests, so just turn it out there in case it's relevant in case someone... In a while. Yeah, that's what I'm trying to do. ...establish a chronology. Am I would say circa 2016. That's why I can't out there. Who shocked to hear that the My Morning Crew in Auckland are running with this segment.
Starting point is 00:30:07 Kia ora, Funnab. What we are talking about right now, if you're just joining us, is who have we not thought about this year that we should have thought about? Now, it can't be so random that like, yeah, we have to kind of care about it. You know what I mean? Like, we've got to know or be like, oh, yeah. Oh, we know. So, we know the rules. What are those names? You've been ticking them through to four six days. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, obviously this is where we, we, we discuss whether we prosecute or not. Don't we have to lay them over each other? Let's have a further listen,
Starting point is 00:30:40 just to make sure that the segments, it's not pretty. Yeah. It's not similar, but let's just have a listen to Wille go over it. So far it rhymes. Yeah, it does rhyme with each other. Yep. Lindow, okay, who have we thought of for 2022? You know, when Tegan said to him the tall man Taylor, I was like, you know who we haven't thought about? Jonathan Taylor, Thomas. Or...
Starting point is 00:31:00 Is he the heartthrob from that show? Yes, he was. He's the one. So I haven't thought of him. I haven't thought of him. I see the heartthrob from that show Yes, he was So I haven't thought of him. I haven't thought of him Have not thought of him and I used to think about him all the good. Yeah, they could He was so handsome and then he just disappeared hang on no no no no was it needed a voice of Simba? Of young Simba and Lion King because I watched the YouTube I watched the YouTube video can do voiceover Sorry I watched a YouTube video and doing voiceovers. Sorry. Almost did it.
Starting point is 00:31:25 So pondering a name, side of evidence of when you thought of that name. Within the calendar year you're in. And giving a detailed explanation of where you might have come across the name, that's certainly something that features in the Hamish and Andy show. And like the Hamish and Andy show, when it is someone that you haven't thought of for a while, there's nothing to add, they just say the name alone. And I've heard Hamish and Andy do that too. I'm gonna do that.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Just repeat the name. Repeat the name. Really low grade padding, because it's not introducing any new thoughts or concepts. Yeah, it's just repeating the name. Yeah, they do that a bit. So they haven't shown you to do a lot of low grade padding and those guys seem to be doing some of that too.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Guilty for me. Yeah, be my kid. Yes. Time to the steak for me to burn them. Which brings us to another one here. This one came in from Amy. She is living in the UK at the moment. Sorry, should we not light the fire?
Starting point is 00:32:28 Yes, of the first. There's more people to tell up at the stage. Yeah, exactly, I think so. I think so. Just because we don't have to rebuild the whole fire again, it's all the killing things. So long to get it going. It's exactly.
Starting point is 00:32:41 You might, I'll play you a sample of a show that I've been watching. Yeah, yeah, yeah. a sample of a show, that a lot of my people can play. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, have a listen to this. So, Amanda, you lay a topic on this, that you have about a tertiary level of knowledge about, and then we get three and a half minutes. Well, we'll listen to song people don't have to at home,
Starting point is 00:32:59 get a new guy, enjoy yourself. Then we come back in three and a half minutes, time and answer your questions. What is our topic today, Amanda? It's Russia. Song to cram. A song to cram. A game where we have someone give us a topic,
Starting point is 00:33:12 we have one song to search with PDA or online, or whatever, to try and cram as much information and then they give us a quiz. This is BBC Radio 2. One's hit, hit and youth. Yeah, one's like broad. I think this is... And there's two more of an HBO, like a thinking man's.
Starting point is 00:33:29 No. I think... I think two is just kind of like, you're run of the middle... To be on one soon. Yeah, bit and bit. Like Chris Chino Coddle's show, you know, just like, a run of the middle. I was no BBC, too, mate.
Starting point is 00:33:42 I don't think we would describe that as run of the music. I don't know what one showed. Jack, Jack, you're not BBC tonight. He came from absolute, okay? Match different radio stations. I think it's old music. Is it older music? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:56 People that still like radio, kind of thing. Yeah, yeah. The... Yeah. My favorite thing is these unbars discussions are over the head of the show. Open an unbast. So this is the host of the afternoon show him, O.J. Borg, his name, he's the Philly No's. So he must have helped him try and live with this.
Starting point is 00:34:19 We know what's happened here. Are you sure you can enough seconds to show? Absolutely. I'm ready to go. I'm ready to go. We know what's happened here. Are you sure you can enough seconds to show? Absolutely I'm ready to go back full segments, right and all original Right and you because we're need up to 10 10. Yes. Oh good good good. I'll just get just go Let me go get the other bag My back up segments in it and you should be pleased with the full tin of my segments Anyway, have a listen Mid-afternoon mastermind So
Starting point is 00:34:51 Third time we're doing this this week mid afternoon Mastermind is back riding fast and loose in the sunshine If you haven't just before you get to test me on something I have no idea what the subject is nor who is asking me the questions on something I have no idea what the subject is nor who is asking me the questions. O.A.J., it's Guy Arnold here from Devon. What is your subject? What we're doing? What's specially subject to be doing? Right, but your subject today is whiskey. Whiskey? Okay, all right then. Stay there for me we'll play one song and then three questions after this on whiskey.
Starting point is 00:35:22 Wunderer Stories by Yes, it is a great record, totally a great plus. It's fairly long as well, which is good for the research period because when the song stops my research, stops as well as I should have done this. Oh, we know the rules. We know the rules. We know the rules. Well, you have to tell us.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Wasted on us, my friend. Certainly more. The youth network that we were constantly. The after we could quiz on whiskey. That feels very different, which I don't know. Ty O.J. Borg to the... The live morning crew all the same.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Room on the steak. Room on the steak, my friend. We'll need more rope. Because I wasn't expecting to have so many bodies time to this attack Yeah, but guilty for me get yet burn burn immediately Unbelievable and the shake of the fast Hey before we go today we should point out to everybody that season four of our remembering project the show where we look back at all the shows We've done over the last kind of 20 years. It's back out. It's exclusive at the moment on the listener app
Starting point is 00:36:32 You can download it for free and it'll be made available in about a couple months time Absolutely, and oh look, I love doing a remembering project because I especially feel that this this season was a lot of fun We just landed on some good dates. Yeah. And it's always that thing of like, you go back because we look at the old runchets and try and remember, you know, the whole idea is can we remember what we were doing on that day?
Starting point is 00:36:55 So many great surprises in this season. Our sound master, Marxi, located the shows from when we were just on Saturday morning. So before the drive shows, so there are even some stories from there. There's green, green, just stars in their eyes, but you know, happy to admit they made some mistakes
Starting point is 00:37:14 and very, very sloppy. I mean, you think what we do now is sloppy. Oh my God. So I'm at that old stuff. 2004, 2005 is that, this is a little sneak peek for you. 2005, we're talking about being on Kevin's space's yacht. 2005 is that this is a little sneak peek for you 2005 We're talking about being on Kevin space is yacht now. I don't want to listen back to it
Starting point is 00:37:29 No, I mean we would have been super into Kevin spacey. Yep. We would have been excited about being there We're a member of us going. He was so interested in us. We're not knowing The funny thing is it was his production. It was in Khan, it was in the Khan Film Festival. It was his production company that we now really like had hired the yacht for four hours. But at the time we were like, wow, space is yacht. Do you remember the yacht next door? That was the, it was the, was it the, you remember it? Yeah, I remember it.
Starting point is 00:37:59 It was the private yacht. So it's right, it was like a porn company. A porn company. A porn private. Nice. it was the private yacht. So it's right. It was like a porn company. A porn company for a private. And they had steppers on the deck. And lots of girls out, the porn stars, on steppers stepping like working out. I like air, air walkers.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Like, you know, those stepper machines. Yeah, on the deck. And so we're on Kevin's face. He's very serious for us because it was 2005, a long time ago, 24, but it's like, it's very serious for us because it was 2005, a long time ago, 24, and we'd, it's like, swindled our way. Yeah, having a free drink, which is amazing. So a beer, and then looking at all these porn 1000
Starting point is 00:38:35 steppers on a yacht alongside very surreal experience. And also because he's, he's faking it because he's hardly got for four hours. We think it's, this is what his life is. And everyone else will like, oh, this must be what level these people are at. So we're kind of faking it going. Yeah, just another yacht party for us.
Starting point is 00:38:53 And when you're in Australia, we must get you on out. And I let if anyone out that the girls and the yacht next to us, when they're doing their movies, they're often faking it. I don't know about that. No, no, no, no. So it was just a wild time. Do you know the only photo I've got of that?
Starting point is 00:39:10 We took a photo with him, which back then, we were like, oh, usual suspects, my favourite movie like this is huge. Because my girlfriend, the time was a huge fan of Spasie Fan as well, I made a crop of it, which is just me and him, for some part I made for her, and could never revert it. So I got you out of the box. I thought I was making a copy of a crop and I could go back to the original. So I know long and...
Starting point is 00:39:34 But I'm not terrible for you. I'm saved for you. I've saved you very well. Thanks for listening. The Hamish Nandy podcast will return next week. Catch up or contribute at hamishnandy.com.
